  3. The Lord our God is merciful, and he is gracious, long-suffering, and slow to wrath, and mercy

  4. plenteous. He will not chide continually, nor keep his anger still. With us he dealt not as we sinned,

  5. nor did we quiet our ill. We'll sing from verse 8 to 13 to God's praise.

  26. Melanie.

  27. He asked the Father,

  28. I will come to God in prayer.

  29. Let us pray.

  30. Our gracious God, our Father in heaven,

  31. as we sing praise to you,

  32. we are thankful for the wonder of these words,

  33. of what they remind us of.

  34. They remind us of who you are

  35. and how gracious you are towards us.

  36. You are a Father who pities his children

  37. and you do not deal with us according to our ways.

  38. You have been patient and kind with us

  39. and long-suffering in so many different ways.

  40. And we thank you that today and this evening

  41. as we come to worship you,

  42. as we come seeking your face,

  43. we are reminded in so many ways,

  44. O Lord, of how you have kept us,

  45. how you have spared us,

  46. how your favor has been upon us.

  47. We are reminded in the Psalm 2 of who we are.

  48. We are a pitied people, Lord,

  49. for we have sinned and fall short of your glory

  50. in so many ways.

  51. But we thank you, Lord,

  52. that we are reminded too

  53. that as we come to worship you

  54. in the right spirit of fear,

  55. that we are indeed your dear children

  56. and that you are a God who cares for us.

  57. Even in our sin, Lord,

  58. we are reminded that as we come to you

  59. seeking forgiveness,

  60. that you have removed our sin

  61. as far as east as from the west.

  62. And we thank you that we are reminded of that,

  63. not because of our deserving of it.

  64. We are reminded not because of anything

  65. that we have done,

  66. but we are reminded of our sin removed

  67. through your own Son,

  68. through his sacrifice,

  69. through the shedding of his blood,

  70. through his giving his life

  71. as a ransom for many.

  72. And so we thank you, Lord,

  73. for your great love and compassion

  74. towards us in these things.

  75. And as we come today

  76. on a day of significant and special remembrance,

  77. we look back, oh Lord,

  78. in so many ways.

  79. And we remember, Lord,

  80. in so many different ways,

  81. things that have taken place in the past,

  82. things that we didn't experience,

  83. many of us ourselves,

  84. and yet, oh Lord,

  85. things that have left a mark upon us all,

  86. things that have made an impression

  87. on our lives

  88. and indeed marked out our lives for us.

  89. For apart from the loss of so many lives,

  90. apart from those who were willing

  91. to stand up to wickedness

  92. and evil when it arose,

  93. apart from those great sacrifices,

  94. Lord, our world would be so different,

  95. our freedoms,

  96. maybe we wouldn't even have them.

  97. And the worship of your name

  98. could be so curtailed

  99. that, Lord, we would have to do so

  100. as we do this evening

  101. in much privacy

  102. and even hidden away.

  103. And we know, Lord,

  104. that we have so much to be thankful for,

  105. for all who went,

  106. who laid down their lives,

  107. that we might have the freedom that we do.

  108. We thank you, Lord,

  109. that even to this day

  110. there are those who serve

  111. for that means, oh Lord,

  112. for your people far and wide,

  113. to give freedom and liberties

  114. that are not ours.

  115. Apart from, Lord,

  116. they were given by you.

  117. And so we thank you

  118. for all our services,

  119. our armed forces.

  120. We thank you for them in the past,

  121. Lord, how they defended our nation

  122. on land,

  123. at sea,

  124. and in the air,

  125. and in so many different ways

  126. on the home front as well.

  127. We thank you, Lord,

  128. for all that was done for us.

  129. And in our remembrance, Lord,

  130. help us that we will indeed

  131. give thanks for them,

  132. but above all,

  133. give thanks to you this day.

  134. May we remember, Lord,

  135. the conflicts taking place

  136. even in our own day and age as well.

  137. That throughout the world,

  138. there are still these battles ongoing,

  139. still so many lives being lost

  140. because of the wickedness of man.

  141. And we do pray, Lord,

  142. for you to come

  143. in a day of your power

  144. to have pity upon us, Lord,

  145. to have mercy upon us,

  146. and to turn us once again towards you.

  147. So, Lord, we pray that you will help us

  148. to remember all these things,

  149. but above all, Lord,

  150. that we would remember you in it.

  151. As someone said, Lord,

  152. that the further we go from an event,

  153. the more we forget.

  154. And the further we go,

  155. not just from the conflicts

  156. and wars of these past centuries,

  157. but the further we go, Lord,

  158. from the conquest of sin at the cross,

  159. the more we tend to forget.

  160. When Jesus said that

  161. he would come again to his people,

  162. they were expecting it so imminently.

  163. But now that years and centuries have passed,

  164. we live as a people

  165. who have almost forgotten

  166. the promises of Christ.

  167. But we thank you that your word

  168. gives us a remembrance towards that.

  169. And we thank you, Lord,

  170. for every means that we have

  171. to remember you.

  172. We thank you for your word

  173. and the proclamation of it.

  174. We thank you for the preaching of it

  175. week by week.

  176. We thank you, too,

  177. for the sacraments

  178. for both the Lord's Supper

  179. and baptism.

  180. They're reminders to us, Lord,

  181. of all that you have done for us

  182. and the way that our salvation

  183. has been purchased.

  184. And so we pray that you will continue

  185. to build up your church

  186. far and wide,

  187. that in all we do,

  188. we do so in remembrance of him

  189. who gave his life for us.

  190. We thank you for our people, Lord,

  191. our congregation,

  192. and our communities.

  193. We do pray your blessing on us

  194. as a people.

  195. We thank you, Lord,

  196. that you are always near,

  197. that there is never a moment

  198. when we cannot turn to you.

  199. We thank you that even

  200. in this past week

  201. as we have experienced

  202. great needs in our midst

  203. as a people,

  204. with ill health,

  205. with the passing of loved ones,

  206. with the various trials

  207. that come our way, Lord,

  208. we thank you that you are a God

  209. who is faithful,

  210. that you are always there for us.

  211. And we pray, Lord,

  212. that you will surround us

  213. as a people,

  214. that you will uphold us

  215. as a people,

  216. that you will be a strength

  217. to those who need you

  218. in particular ways.

  219. We think of those

  220. who are laid aside

  221. in their homes,

  222. those who are in hospital,

  223. those who are in homes

  224. for the old age.

  225. We pray, Lord,

  226. for our young people,

  227. our middle age,

  228. for all with many ongoing issues

  229. in our lives.

  230. Lord, we know that our lives

  231. are complex in so many ways

  232. and our understanding

  233. is so dull at times.

  234. We think we understand

  235. so many things

  236. and yet so much

  237. we do not understand.

  238. But we thank you

  239. that in Christ

  240. we have one

  241. who is a teacher,

  242. who is our Lord.

  243. And we pray, Lord,

  244. that you will direct our paths,

  245. that you will help us

  246. to know our ways

  247. and to walk in your paths,

  248. to walk in your ways.

  249. We pray, Lord,

  250. your blessing over us

  251. and we thank you

  252. for our young people,

  253. for the YF tonight.

  254. We pray that you will bless them

  255. in their time together

  256. for that subject

  257. they will be speaking upon,

  258. the life in this world

  259. where we think of our image

  260. and all that that means.

  261. We know it's such a pressure

  262. on us as a people

  263. and especially our young ones.

  264. We pray for you

  265. and as he leads them in that

  266. and as they enjoy

  267. that time together, Lord,

  268. may you bless them

  269. and give them your spirit

  270. upon them.

  271. And in all things, Lord,

  272. that we think of image,

  273. may we remember

  274. that we are made

  275. in the image of Christ.

  276. And we pray, Lord,

  277. that we will see Christ

  278. in one another

  279. and that we would see,

  280. O Lord,

  281. your image being perfected in us,

  282. that we would see our people

  283. as a whole,

  284. all of us together,

  285. seeking after him

  286. and longing to be more like him.

  287. So we pray your blessing on us

  288. as we continue in our worship.

  289. Bless your people far and wide.

  290. Build up your church, O Lord,

  291. and look down upon us

  292. in these days with mercy.

  293. Remember those who lead us

  294. in government

  295. and who rule over us

  296. as a people.

  297. May you uphold them

  298. and give them wisdom

  299. from on high.

  300. Bless the nations

  301. of the world, O Lord.

  302. We pray again, Lord,

  303. for all the various needs

  304. around us,

  305. that you will be with us

  306. as a people.

  307. We thank you that

  308. in our remembrance of so much,

  309. that you are a God

  310. who has remembered us.

  311. May you continue to do so,

  312. Lord,

  313. that you would turn your face

  314. towards us,

  315. shine upon us

  316. and bless us

  317. by the pity

  318. of your nature

  319. and all that you are.

  320. Lord,

  321. may you find us

  322. to be a precious people,

  323. a people

  324. purchased at a great price

  325. and a people

  326. who would come

  327. and offer up our praise

  328. and worship to you.

  329. So, Lord,

  330. hear our prayers,

  331. hear our praise,

  332. uphold us in all we do.

  333. Bless us as we sing

  334. your praise.

  335. Be with the one

  336. who leads us in it, Lord.

  337. And may we all lift up

  338. our hearts together

  339. in worship

  340. and adoration of you.

  341. Bless your word

  342. to us as well

  343. as we ask all things

  344. with forgiveness

  345. of our sins.

  346. In Jesus' precious name.

  347. Amen.

  348. We'll again sing

  349. to God's praise,

  350. this time in Psalm 77.

  351. In the Singed Psalm,

  352. Psalm 77.

  353. It's on page 100

  354. of the psalm books.

  355. We're going to sing

  356. from verse 7

  357. down to verse 15.

  358. Verse 7,

  359. it's the question

  360. of the psalmist

  361. where he's looking

  362. to God

  363. and asking this question,

  364. forever will the Lord

  365. reject

  366. and never show

  367. his grace

  368. as he withdrawn

  369. his steadfast love

  370. and turned

  371. from me

  372. his face.

  373. There's this searching

  374. question

  375. that the psalmist has.

  376. But then in verse 10

  377. he says,

  378. then to my heart

  379. there came this thought,

  380. on this I will rely,

  381. the years of the right hand

  382. of power

  383. of him

  384. who is most high.

  385. I rely on a dependence

  386. upon God.

  387. We'll sing

  388. from verse 7

  389. to 15

  390. to God's praise.

  391. Forever

  392. will the Lord

  393. reject

  394. and never

  395. show

  396. his grace

  397. as

  398. he

  399. will

  400. turn

  401. on

  402. his

  403. king

  404. cross

  405. and

  406. turn

  407. from me

  408. his face.

  409. For all

  410. time

  411. has

  412. his

  413. promise

  414. failed

  415. his

  416. God

  417. no

  418. No longer kind, as he in his great proudestness, O passion from his mind.

  419. Then to my heart, their kindness thought, On this I will rely.

  420. The years of the bright hand of power, Off him who is most high.

  421. I will recall the Lord's great deeds, Your words of long ago.

  422. I'll meditate on all your acts, Your mighty deeds I'll show.

  423. O God, for so in higher ways, What God compares with you.

  424. You are the Lord of miracles, Whose powers that nations view.

  425. You have redeemed your people, Lord, With your almighty arm.

  426. Jacob, St. Joseph, children you Delivered from all heart.

  427. We will turn together to read God's word now in the Gospel of Mark.

  428. Mark, Mark chapter 8.

    Mark 8 chapter mention

  429. Reading from the beginning of the chapter down to verse 21.

  430. Mark chapter 8, the beginning of the chapter down to verse 21.

    Mark 8 chapter mention

  431. In those days when again a great crowd had gathered, and they had nothing to eat,

  432. He called His disciples to Him,

  433. He said,

  434. They said seven.

  435. They said seven.

  436. And He directed the crowd to sit down on the ground.

  437. And He took the seven loaves, and having given thanks,

  438. He broke them and gave them to His disciples to set before the people.

  439. And they set them before the crowd.

  440. And they had a few small fish.

  441. And having blessed them, He said too,

  442. He said that these also should be set before them.

  443. And they ate and were satisfied.

  444. And they took up the broken pieces left over, seven baskets full.

  445. And there were about four thousand people.

  446. And He sent them away.

  447. And immediately got into the boat with His disciples and went to the district of Dalmanutha.

  448. The Pharisees came and began to argue with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven to test Him.

  449. And He said,

  450. Why does this generation seek a sign?

  451. And He said,

  452. Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.

  453. And He left them, got into His boat again, and went to the other side.

  454. Now they had forgotten to bring bread.

  455. And they had only one loaf with them in the boat.

  456. And He cautioned them, saying,

  457. Watch out.

  458. Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.

  459. And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread.

  460. And Jesus, aware of this, said to them,

  461. Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread?

  462. Do you not yet perceive or understand?

  463. Are your hearts hardened?

  464. Having eyes, do you not see?

  465. And having ears, do you not hear?

  466. And do you not remember?

  467. When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand,

  468. how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?

  469. They said to Him,

  470. Twelve.

  471. And the seven for the four thousand,

  472. How many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?

  473. And they said to Him,

  474. Seven.

  475. And He said to them,

  476. Do you not yet understand?

  477. And so on.

  478. And may God bless that reading from His Word.

  479. We're going to sing again to God's praise, this time in Psalm 85.

  480. In the sing Psalms on page 113.

  481. Psalm 85, page 113, from the beginning of the Psalm.

  482. In times past, Lord, you showed favour to your own beloved land,

  483. the prosperity of Jacob.

  484. You restored by your strong hand.

  485. You forgave your people's trespass.

  486. You were pleased their sins to hide.

  487. You withdrew all your displeasure from your wrath.

  488. You turned aside.

  489. We'll sing from verse 1 to 9 to God's praise.

  490. Amen.

  491. Amen.

  492. Amen.

  493. Amen.

  494. Let go!

  495. Amen.

  496. In times past, Lord, you should favor to your own beloved land.

  497. Let prosperity of Jacob you restore values from hand.

  498. You forgive your needless past.

  499. You had peace as sins to hide.

  500. You withdrew all your displeasure.

  501. From your wrath you turned aside.

  502. God our Savior now restored us.

  503. All must turn away your rage.

  504. Will your anger burn against us?

  505. Will it last from age to age?

  506. Will you not again revive us?

  507. That we may rejoice in you.

  508. Show us, Lord, your covenant mercy.

  509. Your salvation grant anew.

  510. I will hear what God the Lord says.

  511. To his saints he offers peace.

  512. But his people must not wander.

  513. And return to foolishness.

  514. Surely for all those who fear him.

  515. His salvation is our time.

  516. So that once again his glory may be seen within our land.

  517. Amen.

  518. Well, if we can turn back to our reading in Mark's Gospel, Chapter 8.

  519. We're going to be looking at the whole of the section that we read from the beginning of the chapter down to verse 21.

  520. But it's in light of the question that Jesus asks of his disciples.

  521. The question you see asked twice of them here.

  522. In verse 17 and then in verse 21.

  523. In verse 17, Jesus says, aware of what they were speaking about, he said to them,

  524. Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread?

  525. Do you not yet perceive or understand?

  526. Are your hearts hardened?

  527. And then in verse 21, he says to them,

  528. Do you not yet understand?

  529. I think it's important for us, first of all, as we think of that question,

  530. to realize who the question was being asked of.

  531. It wasn't of a large crowd of people.

  532. It was of his closest disciples, those who were closest to him,

  533. those who had experienced so much with him up to this point.

  534. Yet in all that they've seen, in all that they've experienced with them,

  535. he still has this question of them.

  536. Do you not yet understand?

  537. And it's a question for ourselves to think about too.

  538. Do you understand?

  539. When we think about our lives, we live as if we understand so much.

  540. Whatever age and stage of life we are,

  541. we always feel we know more than we actually do.

  542. We often feel we understand,

  543. maybe even everything that there is to know about life.

  544. And yet the more we go on,

  545. the more we realize just how little we understand.

  546. What's your favorite school subject?

  547. It could be a question for the young people here,

  548. but it's also a question maybe for every one of us.

  549. When you look back over the years to your days in school,

  550. what was your favorite subject?

  551. Some maybe would excel in maths,

  552. some in English,

  553. some in sciences,

  554. some in geography,

  555. some in history.

  556. You'd all have maybe different strengths and weaknesses.

  557. But if you went into the class the first day

  558. and you were expected to understand

  559. everything about that subject there and then,

  560. how would you fare?

  561. If you were to sit an exam,

  562. that's actually a higher exam for sixth year

  563. when you went into primary one,

  564. do you think you'd pass?

  565. Do you think you'd understand trigonometry?

  566. You'd understand algebra?

  567. You'd understand how everything goes together.

  568. You wouldn't

  569. because you haven't reached that stage.

  570. But your teacher wouldn't say to you on primary one,

  571. do you not understand?

  572. Do you not understand

  573. how algebra and trigonometry works

  574. when you haven't been fully taught?

  575. You wouldn't be expected to know it

  576. or understand it at that point.

  577. But yet as our lives go on,

  578. we begin to understand more and more.

  579. But I could ask hands up

  580. if anyone now understands algebra.

  581. And it doesn't matter what stage of life you're at,

  582. some people still don't understand.

  583. But it doesn't mean that that's it.

  584. You're pushed away.

  585. There's certain things

  586. that we should seek to understand.

  587. Maybe we're not interested in certain subjects.

  588. We've got other areas we'd like to focus on.

  589. But when Jesus is asking us this question,

  590. he's asking us for a different reason.

  591. He's asking a more searching question.

  592. A question that we really need to think about ourselves

  593. because it's not something we can just put away

  594. and say, well, I'm not going to need that in life.

  595. I'm not really interested in learning about that.

  596. I've got other areas I'm more focused in.

  597. When Jesus is asking this question,

  598. do you understand?

  599. He's asking it because it is an important question

  600. for every one of us.

  601. As believers or as seekers

  602. or wherever we are in life,

  603. Jesus is asking this question of you this evening.

  604. And he's saying,

  605. do you not yet understand?

  606. In all your experience in life

  607. and all the understanding you feel you have

  608. and you may be starting to think,

  609. oh, I know so much in life now.

  610. I'm understanding everything.

  611. But when Jesus asks us,

  612. do you really understand?

  613. Do you understand what's important?

  614. Do you understand what's vital for your life,

  615. for death, for eternity?

  616. Do you understand?

  617. Do you understand?

  618. We realize we don't.

  619. But we have a great teacher.

  620. We have one who gives us instruction in his word,

  621. saying to us,

  622. you maybe won't understand it all.

  623. You won't understand everything.

  624. But I will give you what you need to know

  625. and what you need to take hold of.

  626. So this question that Jesus has for his disciples,

  627. it's in light of having been with them

  628. for some time together now,

  629. having seen so many miracles and healings,

  630. having heard the greatest teaching they would ever hear.

  631. He's asking them,

  632. do you understand?

  633. And so tonight, that's your question too.

  634. Do you understand?

  635. Or what do you understand

  636. of what Jesus is asking here?

  637. Whatever situation you're in,

  638. if you're a believer,

  639. do you understand what that means?

  640. Are you confident in what you know?

  641. If you're a seeker,

  642. do you understand what you're looking for?

  643. Do you understand where to find it?

  644. If you're a doubter,

  645. do you understand what that means?

  646. Do you understand the danger you're in

  647. of just pushing Jesus away?

  648. Or if you're rejecting the truth completely,

  649. do you understand what that means?

  650. Do you understand what a rejection of Christ means eternally?

  651. Do you understand is the question.

  652. And with this evening,

  653. we're going to look at different things

  654. that can hinder our understanding,

  655. that can become a barrier to our understanding.

  656. Circumstances we see in this passage,

  657. things that come between the people

  658. and their understanding of who Jesus is

  659. and what he can do

  660. and see how they speak to ourselves as well

  661. and how they remind us

  662. that even though we will not understand fully,

  663. Jesus has made himself known in a way

  664. that we can understand to the way of salvation.

  665. So the three things are this.

  666. First of all,

  667. there's circumstances that can prevent us

  668. from understanding.

  669. Secondly,

  670. there's conflict that can hinder our understanding.

  671. And then thirdly,

  672. there's confusion that can hinder our understanding.

  673. So the first thing is circumstances.

  674. If you look at,

  675. first of all,

  676. verse 1 to verse 10,

  677. here we have the account of the feeding

  678. of the 4,000 as it is in this part.

  679. And it's important to note

  680. that this is not the same

  681. as the feeding of the 5,000

  682. because that's made clear for us

  683. later on in the verses that we read

  684. because Jesus asks them about the two incidents

  685. when these miracles happened,

  686. the feeding of the 5,000

  687. and the feeding of the 4,000.

  688. So this is the second time

  689. this great miracle has happened.

  690. And the question that he asks of the people

  691. is really,

  692. this is the main aspect of it,

  693. it's in light of the miracle

  694. that they've seen here

  695. in the talk about bread

  696. and how Jesus is able to understand it.

  697. They're questioning where the bread

  698. is going to come from.

  699. So he's asking,

  700. do you not yet understand?

  701. Do you not understand who I am?

  702. You see as you read through the Gospel of Mark,

  703. many miracles that Jesus has done.

  704. He shows his power again and again

  705. in remarkable ways.

  706. He's healed many people already to this point.

  707. He's calmed a storm

  708. that the disciples were in with him.

  709. He made the sea just to be still

  710. at the power of his voice.

  711. And now this is the second miraculous feeding

  712. of a large group of people.

  713. And you would think to yourself at this point now,

  714. surely, well, the disciples,

  715. they'll be understanding who this man is.

  716. They'd asked in the storm,

  717. who is this?

  718. That even the wind and the waves obey him.

  719. But surely now,

  720. they're understanding who he is.

  721. Having seen all these miracles

  722. again and again,

  723. that Jesus has done so much

  724. that is impossible.

  725. And yet, when this challenge arises,

  726. you'd think, well,

  727. the disciples will know

  728. Jesus can help.

  729. So again, as you see in this section,

  730. they're gathered together,

  731. a large crowd.

  732. They've got nothing to eat.

  733. In verse 1,

  734. and he says,

  735. he called his disciples to him

  736. and said to them,

  737. I have compassion on the crowd

  738. because they have been with me now

  739. three days and have nothing to eat.

  740. And he explains that if he sends them away,

  741. they'll faint on the way.

  742. So his disciples answered him and said,

  743. how can one feed these people with bread here

  744. in this desolate place?

  745. They've seen it done before.

  746. And yet, the question they have immediately here is,

  747. how can anything be done?

  748. And Jesus is asking them later on,

  749. do you not understand?

  750. They've seen it,

  751. but they maybe don't believe

  752. it can happen again.

  753. They've had that

  754. wow factor in the past

  755. when they've seen so much

  756. of the power of God,

  757. and yet here they are

  758. just a short time later

  759. asking,

  760. what can we do?

  761. How can anybody help us

  762. in this situation?

  763. Sometimes it's good

  764. when things are going well,

  765. when we're tuned in

  766. and trusting God the Lord

  767. and seeing blessings around us.

  768. But when our circumstances change,

  769. we can so easily doubt

  770. and begin to look away from God.

  771. Circumstances can affect us

  772. so much,

  773. but should they?

  774. Not so much

  775. that we wouldn't have God

  776. in our vision at all times,

  777. but the reality is,

  778. they do.

  779. And we ourselves

  780. go into circumstances,

  781. and even though we've seen

  782. the Lord's hand in the past,

  783. we've seen many ways

  784. where he's helped his people,

  785. whether we're looking at scripture,

  786. whether we're looking at history,

  787. whether we're looking at

  788. our own personal experience

  789. of the past,

  790. where God has helped me,

  791. God has been with me,

  792. and yet we come to another trial,

  793. another event,

  794. well, what can God do?

  795. He can't help me here.

  796. We take our eyes away from him.

  797. Just like that psalm

  798. that we were singing,

  799. Psalm 77,

  800. where the psalmist saying,

  801. whatever will the Lord reject

  802. and never show his grace.

  803. This is the psalmist

  804. who's known it in the past.

  805. And yet he's saying,

  806. you know,

  807. can God do it now?

  808. And maybe that's so much

  809. our attitude as well.

  810. Circumstances eat away at us,

  811. and they dictate

  812. the way that we see God

  813. when really it shouldn't.

  814. Because even the psalmist

  815. says in that psalm,

  816. then to my heart

  817. there came this thought,

  818. on this I will rely,

  819. the years of the right hand

  820. of power of him

  821. who is most high.

  822. I will recall

  823. the Lord's great deeds,

  824. your works of long ago.

  825. He begins to look back

  826. and say,

  827. well, actually,

  828. in all my questions,

  829. God's done it before.

  830. And he goes on to say,

  831. oh God, most holy,

  832. are your ways

  833. what God compares with you.

  834. You are the God of miracles

  835. whose power the nation's view.

  836. What makes the difference?

  837. It's to look to God

  838. and to remember who he is.

  839. And circumstances here,

  840. the disciples are saying,

  841. who can help us?

  842. There's nothing here for us.

  843. They've forgotten already

  844. what God can do,

  845. what Christ has done

  846. in the past.

  847. But he reminds them again

  848. how he is able to do

  849. the things that are impossible.

  850. This is no ordinary event.

  851. It's a miracle.

  852. It's a miraculous event

  853. that Christ has shown his power

  854. once again.

  855. He is the God of miracles.

  856. But have we lost sight of that?

  857. Are we forgetting who he is?

  858. Do we really understand?

  859. When he asks that question,

  860. do you not yet understand?

  861. Is that a question of ourselves?

  862. Even though we've seen his favor,

  863. even though we've seen his blessing,

  864. we still doubt.

  865. What have we got?

  866. And what can Jesus do with it?

  867. Is how we should look at it.

  868. That should have been the response

  869. of the disciples here.

  870. Instead of saying,

  871. nothing can be done.

  872. Jesus points them

  873. in the right direction.

  874. He begins to say,

  875. what have we got?

  876. What can we give

  877. to these people?

  878. He asked them,

  879. how many loaves do we have?

  880. They said,

  881. seven.

  882. Now again in their eyes,

  883. this would never be enough

  884. to feed them.

  885. Or the fish,

  886. just a few small fish,

  887. never would that feed this crowd.

  888. But through the Lord's blessing,

  889. it does.

  890. And there's seven baskets full

  891. left over.

  892. Their circumstances

  893. made them look away from God

  894. and look at the situation

  895. and think nothing can be done.

  896. And for ourselves today,

  897. it's a time maybe to ask,

  898. what have we got?

  899. And what can we do?

  900. What can God do

  901. with what we have?

  902. Not we ourselves.

  903. What can we achieve?

  904. But what can God do for us?

  905. In our circumstances,

  906. we think everything is low.

  907. Everything is hard.

  908. Everything is difficult.

  909. And they are at times.

  910. But are we trusting God?

  911. Do we understand

  912. who He is?

  913. And do we understand

  914. what He is able to do?

  915. Our circumstances

  916. are no different

  917. to the circumstances

  918. of those in the past

  919. who trusted God.

  920. And that's what we pray tonight,

  921. that God will revive

  922. our trust in Him.

  923. We need an urgency

  924. for Him.

  925. So we don't let our circumstances

  926. dictate our view of Jesus.

  927. Instead, we look first to Him

  928. and then to our circumstances.

  929. And see,

  930. He is able

  931. to do abundantly more

  932. than we ask or imagine.

  933. The second thing we see here

  934. is the conflict that comes

  935. between mainly Jesus

  936. and the Pharisees.

  937. And how again,

  938. this hinders

  939. an understanding

  940. of who Jesus is.

  941. You see this with the Pharisees

  942. in verse 11.

  943. The Pharisees came

  944. and began to argue with Him.

  945. seeking with Him

  946. a sign from heaven

  947. to test Him.

  948. And He sighed deeply

  949. in spirit and said,

  950. Why does this generation

  951. seek a sign?

  952. Truly I say to you,

  953. no sign

  954. shall be given

  955. to this generation.

  956. And He left them,

  957. got into His boat again,

  958. and went

  959. to the other side.

  960. Here's the Pharisees.

  961. And their attitude

  962. towards Jesus

  963. is an immediate barrier

  964. to their understanding

  965. because they're straight away

  966. into conflict

  967. with Jesus.

  968. The Pharisees came

  969. and began to

  970. argue with Him.

  971. Straight off.

  972. As soon as He comes their way,

  973. they begin to argue with Him,

  974. seeking for a sign

  975. from heaven.

  976. They would have known

  977. all about the miracles.

  978. They would have heard

  979. about everything

  980. that Jesus was doing.

  981. It's almost like

  982. they're mocking Him here.

  983. Show us a sign.

  984. Do another miracle

  985. as if it's just a show.

  986. But Jesus

  987. is rebuking them.

  988. Why does this generation

  989. seek a sign?

  990. They refused to accept

  991. anything

  992. that Jesus did.

  993. It didn't matter

  994. what He did,

  995. they would still have

  996. something

  997. to argue with Jesus about.

  998. Something that would

  999. make Him

  1000. pushed away.

1001. It's as if to say,

  1002. we don't need you.

  1003. The Pharisees,

1004. just like so many of us

  1005. today as well,

  1006. they understood

  1007. everything.

  1008. They always had

  1009. an answer.

  1010. They always had

  1011. something to show

  1012. the people

  1013. how superior

  1014. they were,

  1015. how they had

  1016. this greater

  1017. understanding

  1018. than anybody else.

  1019. So few could

  1020. silence them.

  1021. But Jesus did

  1022. on many occasions.

  1023. He always had

  1024. a rebuke

  1025. or a challenge

  1026. for them

  1027. that made them

  1028. to be silent.

  1029. But here they kept

  1030. coming back,

  1031. kept coming back,

  1032. seeking after a sign.

1033. Can we not be like

  1034. that ourselves too?

  1035. We've got all

  1036. the answers.

  1037. We understand

  1038. everything that we

  1039. need to know

  1040. about life.

  1041. But maybe,

  1042. maybe if Jesus

1043. just gave me a sign,

  1044. maybe if He showed

  1045. me something,

  1046. then I would believe.

  1047. If God

  1048. maybe did another

  1049. miracle today,

  1050. then I would believe

  1051. that He is real.

  1052. But would you?

  1053. Would you believe

  1054. even if you saw

  1055. another miracle?

  1056. two things

  1057. to ask yourself

  1058. if this is

  1059. your attitude.

  1060. First is,

  1061. why should you

  1062. get a sign

  1063. just for yourself?

  1064. Are you

  1065. deserving of it?

  1066. The second thing is,

  1067. has He not

  1068. given you

  1069. all the signs

  1070. that you need?

  1071. Has He not

  1072. shown you

  1073. everything you need

  1074. to know about Him?

  1075. think about the signs

  1076. that you have

  1077. all around you,

  1078. the things that

  1079. point you

  1080. towards God,

  1081. and the kind of

  1082. questions that you

  1083. maybe have.

  1084. Oh, if only Jesus

  1085. would do this,

  1086. when so often

  1087. He already has.

  1088. Just think about

  1089. the creation

  1090. around you.

  1091. on a night

  1092. like tonight

  1093. when you go out

  1094. and there's a

  1095. clear sky,

  1096. you lift up

  1097. your eyes,

  1098. you maybe

  1099. see the moon,

  1100. you see the stars,

  1101. does that not

  1102. speak?

  1103. Does that not

  1104. show you

  1105. that there's a

  1106. creator behind

  1107. it all?

  1108. As you watch

  1109. a sunrise

  1110. and a sunset,

  1111. as you watch

  1112. this week

  1113. the torrents

  1114. of rain we had,

  1115. you think to yourself,

  1116. well,

  1117. where should it all

  1118. come from?

  1119. He has made

  1120. all of these

  1121. things.

  1122. Is there not

  1123. a creator

  1124. behind them?

  1125. He has given

  1126. so many signs,

  1127. the signs all

  1128. around us

  1129. in creation.

  1130. There's a story

  1131. told about

  1132. Sir Isaac Newton

  1133. and you think

  1134. to yourself,

  1135. well,

  1136. there's someone

  1137. who had

  1138. such a great

  1139. understanding

  1140. of so many

  1141. things in life.

  1142. But perhaps

  1143. the greatest

  1144. understanding

  1145. he had was

  1146. that he knew

  1147. that there was

  1148. someone else

  1149. behind everything.

  1150. And he had

  1151. a miniature

  1152. model made

  1153. of the solar

  1154. system that he

  1155. had in his

  1156. study.

  1157. And apparently

  1158. it was quite

  1159. an amazing

  1160. thing to see.

  1161. It had the

  1162. sun in the

  1163. middle and

  1164. revolving around

  1165. the sun

  1166. were all the

  1167. planets and

  1168. it would move

  1169. around,

  1170. you could tell

  1171. what was what.

  1172. And another

  1173. scientist entered

  1174. his study one

  1175. day and was

  1176. amazed by

  1177. this model.

  1178. And he was

  1179. just taken

  1180. aback by it,

  1181. how exquisite

  1182. it was.

  1183. And he started

  1184. to ask questions.

  1185. One of the

  1186. questions he

  1187. asked was,

  1188. who made

  1189. it?

  1190. And Isaac

  1191. Newton replied,

  1192. nobody.

  1193. Well,

  1194. the other

  1195. scientist said

  1196. to him,

  1197. you must think

  1198. I'm a fool.

  1199. Of course

  1200. somebody made

  1201. it, and

  1202. whoever made

  1203. it is a

  1204. genius.

  1205. Isaac

  1206. Newton

  1207. apparently replied

  1208. by saying

  1209. this, he

  1210. said, this

  1211. thing is

  1212. but a

  1213. puny

  1214. imitation of

  1215. something much

  1216. more grand

  1217. and marvelous.

  1218. And I'm

  1219. not able to

  1220. convince you

  1221. that this

  1222. mere toy has

  1223. no designer.

  1224. Yet you

  1225. profess to

  1226. believe that

  1227. the great

  1228. original which

  1229. this design

  1230. comes from

  1231. was made

  1232. without designer

  1233. or maker.

  1234. Now tell

  1235. me, he

  1236. said, by

  1237. what reason

  1238. do you reach

  1239. such a

  1240. conclusion?

  1241. Amazed

  1242. by the

  1243. model, but

  1244. unamazed by

  1245. the real

  1246. thing.

  1247. And how

  1248. many things

  1249. are we

  1250. amazed with

  1251. today?

  1252. How many

  1253. things do

  1254. we see

  1255. that take

  1256. our breath

  1257. away?

  1258. Whether it's

  1259. some kind

  1260. of technology

  1261. or something

  1262. else that we

  1263. see around

  1264. us, we're

  1265. just like

  1266. blown away

  1267. by things

  1268. that we

  1269. see have

  1270. been made.

  1271. And yet we

  1272. fail to be

  1273. amazed by

  1274. the creator.

  1275. Jesus

  1276. says to the

  1277. Pharisees,

  1278. why do you

  1279. seek a

  1280. sign?

  1281. God is

  1282. saying that

  1283. to ourselves,

  1284. why would

  1285. you seek

  1286. after a

  1287. sign today?

  1288. When all

  1289. the signs

  1290. are there

  1291. for you,

  1292. whether it's

  1293. looking at

  1294. creation,

  1295. whether it's

  1296. looking at

  1297. his word,

  1298. whether it's

  1299. looking at

  1300. history,

  1301. whether it's

  1302. looking at

  1303. everything goes

  1304. on around

  1305. us, God

  1306. is reminding

  1307. us again and

  1308. again and

  1309. again that he

  1310. is the God

  1311. of miracles.

  1312. miracles.

  1313. And yet

  1314. still we

  1315. don't believe.

  1316. Consider

  1317. the marvel

  1318. of the

  1319. human body.

  1320. When you

  1321. read in

  1322. Psalm 139

  1323. that we

  1324. were fearfully

  1325. and wonderfully

  1326. made, formed

  1327. in the womb,

  1328. no two people

  1329. alike in the

  1330. world, no two

  1331. fingerprints

  1332. alike.

  1333. When you

  1334. consider the

  1335. marvel of

  1336. DNA and

  1337. how all of

  1338. that works

  1339. together,

  1340. and yet you're

  1341. unique.

  1342. Every one

  1343. of you.

  1344. You are

  1345. different from

  1346. every other

  1347. person in

  1348. this world.

  1349. Is that not

  1350. something that

  1351. should leave us

  1352. amazed and

  1353. thinking, how

  1354. is that?

  1355. Where did we

  1356. come from?

  1357. How are we

  1358. made?

  1359. Well the Bible

  1360. tells us we

  1361. are made in

  1362. the image of

  1363. God.

  1364. We are made

  1365. by him and

  1366. for him.

  1367. All these

  1368. signs are

  1369. there for us

  1370. and yet we

  1371. push God

  1372. away.

  1373. we are

  1374. amazed by

  1375. him.

  1376. All of

  1377. these things

  1378. scream at

  1379. us saying

  1380. there is a

  1381. God.

  1382. He has

  1383. made us,

  1384. he has

  1385. given us

  1386. all of

  1387. this.

  1388. And still

  1389. you ask,

  1390. show me a

  1391. sign.

  1392. well the

  1393. greatest sign

  1394. of all was

  1395. given by

  1396. Jesus himself.

  1397. When he

  1398. replied to

  1399. the Pharisees

  1400. in another

  1401. place, in

  1402. Matthew 12

    Matthew 12:39

  1403. verse 39,

  1404. he said,

  1405. a wicked and

  1406. adulterous

  1407. generation asks

  1408. for a

  1409. miraculous sign,

  1410. but none

  1411. will be given

  1412. it except the

  1413. sign of the

  1414. prophet Jonah.

  1415. For as

  1416. Jonah was

  1417. three days and

  1418. three nights in

  1419. the belly of a

  1420. huge fish,

  1421. so the

  1422. son of man

  1423. will be three

  1424. days and

  1425. three nights

  1426. in the heart

  1427. of the earth.

  1428. He has

  1429. given us

  1430. the greatest

  1431. sign of

  1432. all.

  1433. Three days

  1434. and three

  1435. nights in

  1436. the heart

  1437. of the

  1438. earth.

  1439. Christ

  1440. Jesus came

  1441. to lay

  1442. down his

  1443. life for

  1444. sinners.

  1445. when we

  1446. think about

  1447. remembrance

  1448. day to

  1449. day, do

  1450. we understand

  1451. the significance

  1452. of it?

  1453. Do we

  1454. understand

  1455. back further

  1456. the significance

  1457. of the one

  1458. who laid

  1459. down his

  1460. life for

  1461. us?

  1462. Greater

  1463. love hath

  1464. no man

  1465. than this,

  1466. that he lay

  1467. down his

  1468. life for

  1469. his friends.

  1470. This is a

  1471. text we'll

  1472. hear oft

  1473. quoted today,

  1474. as we give

  1475. thanks for

  1476. the sacrifice

  1477. that so many

  1478. made.

  1479. But are we

  1480. amazed by the

  1481. sacrifice of

  1482. Christ, his

  1483. love that he

  1484. laid down his

  1485. life for us?

  1486. The Pharisees

  1487. are not the

  1488. only ones in

  1489. conflict with

  1490. God.

  1491. We all are.

  1492. Every one of

  1493. us is in a

  1494. conflict.

  1495. Through sin,

  1496. we are in

  1497. rebellion against

  1498. God.

  1499. And yet Jesus

  1500. came to

  1501. defeat that

  1502. enemy, to

  1503. bring peace

  1504. into our

  1505. lives.

  1506. Do you

  1507. understand?

  1508. Do you

  1509. understand the

  1510. conflict you're

  1511. in?

  1512. And do you

  1513. understand the

  1514. way to victory

  1515. is through

  1516. Christ Jesus?

  1517. Because when you

  1518. look at verse

  1519. 13, there's a

  1520. great warning

  1521. there for us.

  1522. It says,

  1523. he left

  1524. them.

  1525. He left

  1526. them, those

  1527. who are asking

  1528. for a sign.

  1529. The danger we

  1530. are in today is

  1531. if we keep

  1532. asking for a

  1533. sign, we

  1534. keep asking for

  1535. something else,

  1536. Jesus will

  1537. leave us.

  1538. Nothing he

  1539. can do for

  1540. us.

  1541. Do you

  1542. understand that

  1543. conflict?

  1544. Do you

  1545. understand your

  1546. need to turn

  1547. to Christ?

  1548. We're in

  1549. conflict.

  1550. The final

  1551. thing we see

  1552. here is the

  1553. confusion.

  1554. The confusion.

  1555. In verse 14

  1556. to 21, the

  1557. disciples are

  1558. just in this

  1559. confused state.

  1560. And again, it's

  1561. just a reminder

  1562. to us of the

  1563. world in which

  1564. we live today.

  1565. Everyone is so

  1566. confused.

  1567. Everyone is

  1568. looking for

  1569. answers but

  1570. doesn't know

  1571. where to turn.

  1572. So much that

  1573. just brings

  1574. confusion into

  1575. our life day

  1576. after day,

  1577. week after

  1578. week.

  1579. And the

  1580. confusion comes

  1581. down to

  1582. this.

  1583. You do not

  1584. understand

  1585. Jesus.

  1586. If we

  1587. understood him

  1588. more, there

  1589. would be so

  1590. much less

  1591. confusion.

  1592. And he

  1593. gives them

  1594. this insight

  1595. into just

  1596. where this

  1597. confusion is

  1598. coming from.

  1599. He says,

  1600. watch out,

  1601. beware of the

  1602. leaven of the

  1603. Pharisees and

  1604. the leaven of

  1605. Herod.

  1606. He's warning

  1607. them about this

  1608. kind of sin

  1609. that comes in.

  1610. This just

  1611. pushing Jesus

  1612. to one side

  1613. and saying,

  1614. we understand.

  1615. We've got it

  1616. all sorted.

  1617. We've made so

  1618. much advancement

  1619. now.

  1620. We don't need

  1621. the word of

  1622. God.

  1623. We don't need

  1624. the spirit of

  1625. God.

  1626. We don't need

  1627. anything of

  1628. that.

  1629. Because we've

  1630. got all the

  1631. answers.

  1632. But Jesus

  1633. is saying,

  1634. beware the

  1635. leaven of

  1636. the Pharisees.

  1637. Beware the

  1638. leaven of

  1639. Herod.

  1640. Beware this

  1641. kind of

  1642. attitude that

  1643. says, we

  1644. don't need

  1645. God.

  1646. So often in

  1647. the scriptures,

  1648. yeast, this

  1649. leaven is the

  1650. picture of

  1651. sin.

  1652. And how sin

  1653. so easily

  1654. corrupts.

  1655. A little

  1656. leaven leavens

  1657. the whole lump,

  1658. as 1 Corinthians

  1659. says.

  1660. And the

  1661. idea here

  1662. that Jesus

  1663. is saying,

  1664. beware the

  1665. little sin.

  1666. The yeast

  1667. in your

  1668. life just

  1669. escalates and

  1670. permeates

  1671. throughout all

  1672. your life,

  1673. infiltrates into

  1674. every part,

  1675. and leads you

  1676. to say,

  1677. we don't

  1678. need Jesus.

  1679. We don't

  1680. need anything

  1681. to do

  1682. with him.

  1683. The Pharisees

  1684. were religious

  1685. men, but the

  1686. religion was

  1687. external.

  1688. It didn't

  1689. change their

  1690. hearts.

  1691. Their hearts

  1692. were hard.

  1693. Do you

  1694. not yet

  1695. perceive or

  1696. understand?

  1697. Are your

  1698. hearts hardened?

  1699. He's asking

  1700. the disciples.

  1701. Is this the

  1702. danger that

  1703. you're in

  1704. as well?

  1705. Do you

  1706. not yet

  1707. understand?

  1708. You've

  1709. been coming

  1710. for so

  1711. long to

  1712. hear the

  1713. word of

  1714. God again

  1715. and again,

  1716. but the

  1717. leaven of

  1718. this world

  1719. is still

  1720. there,

  1721. still pushing

  1722. out God,

  1723. still this

  1724. barrier,

  1725. this confusion,

  1726. this conflict,

  1727. these circumstances

  1728. still going on,

  1729. that Christ is

  1730. still being

  1731. pushed out.

  1732. But Jesus

  1733. is saying,

  1734. do you not

  1735. understand?

  1736. Do you not

  1737. understand what

  1738. this means?

  1739. Do you not

  1740. understand who

  1741. I am?

  1742. And if

  1743. he's saying

  1744. this to

  1745. them,

  1746. he's saying

  1747. it to us

  1748. as well.

  1749. Even as a

  1750. believer, we

  1751. have to be on

  1752. our guard

  1753. against this

  1754. leaven,

  1755. against this

  1756. confusion that

  1757. so easily

  1758. comes in and

  1759. things have

  1760. become acceptable

  1761. that should

  1762. never be.

  1763. To be on

  1764. our guard

  1765. against this

  1766. leaven and

  1767. our hearts

  1768. hardening so

  1769. much that we

  1770. feel we've

  1771. got a greater

  1772. understanding

  1773. now than

  1774. we ever

  1775. did before.

  1776. And the

  1777. answer today

  1778. is so often

  1779. seen by

  1780. looking at

  1781. our own

  1782. wisdom.

  1783. Throughout

  1784. these last

  1785. few years,

  1786. throughout

  1787. everything that's

  1788. going on in

  1789. our world

  1790. today, there's

  1791. always an

  1792. answer.

  1793. Science

  1794. will get us

  1795. through.

  1796. Our military

  1797. power will

  1798. get us

  1799. through.

  1800. Our resources

  1801. will get us

  1802. through.

  1803. Our money

  1804. will get us

  1805. through.

  1806. But there's

  1807. no thought

  1808. that God

  1809. is the one

  1810. who will

  1811. get us

  1812. through.

  1813. Do we

  1814. not

  1815. understand?

  1816. Do we

  1817. not understand

  1818. that apart

  1819. from him,

  1820. we are

  1821. nothing?

  1822. Do we

  1823. understand that

  1824. apart from

  1825. him, we

  1826. are lost?

  1827. If the

  1828. disciples who

  1829. were so close

  1830. to him and

  1831. saw so much

  1832. could be asked

  1833. this question,

  1834. do you not

  1835. yet understand?

  1836. What was he

  1837. saying to

  1838. them?

  1839. He was

  1840. saying to

  1841. look to

  1842. him and

  1843. to trust

  1844. in him.

  1845. They

  1846. couldn't

  1847. understand what

  1848. could be

  1849. done in

  1850. the midst

  1851. of this

  1852. famine of

  1853. 4,000.

  1854. They didn't

  1855. know where

  1856. to turn

  1857. when the

  1858. answer was

  1859. there before

  1860. them, to

  1861. be their

  1862. trust in

  1863. Christ.

  1864. Christ.

  1865. And for

  1866. ourselves

  1867. today, in

  1868. all the

  1869. circumstances

  1870. that we

  1871. have to

  1872. face up

  1873. to, in

  1874. all the

  1875. conflict that

  1876. goes on in

  1877. our lives,

  1878. in all the

  1879. confusion that

  1880. surrounds us,

  1881. when Jesus

  1882. is asking,

  1883. do you not

  1884. yet understand?

  1885. Do we not

  1886. know where

  1887. to go?

  1888. And will we

  1889. not turn to

  1890. him, the

  1891. one who is

  1892. able to do

  1893. so much for

  1894. us?

  1895. And yet

  1896. we just

  1897. neglect him.

  1898. We push

  1899. him away.

  1900. We'll get

  1901. through this

  1902. by ourselves.

  1903. The danger

  1904. is, just

  1905. like the

  1906. Pharisees,

  1907. where he

  1908. said, he

  1909. left them.

  1910. Our prayer

  1911. today is,

  1912. Lord, will

  1913. you not

  1914. again revive

  1915. us?

  1916. That we

  1917. would see

  1918. your blessing

  1919. on our

  1920. land.

  1921. That we

  1922. would recognize

  1923. once again

  1924. that you

  1925. are the

  1926. God of

  1927. miracles,

  1928. and that

  1929. the nations

  1930. of this

  1931. world would

  1932. view this

  1933. God and

  1934. turn to

  1935. him.

  1936. Our

  1937. circumstances,

  1938. our

  1939. conflicts,

  1940. our

  1941. confusion,

  1942. the teacher

  1943. is there

  1944. for us

  1945. to help

  1946. us understand

  1947. and to

  1948. give us

  1949. understanding

  1950. in his

  1951. ways,

  1952. the ways

  1953. of life

  1954. and the

  1955. ways of

  1956. peace,

  1957. if we

  1958. will but

  1959. turn and

  1960. thrust.

  1961. in him.

  1962. Let us

  1963. pray.

  1964. Our

  1965. Father in

  1966. heaven, we

  1967. do thank

  1968. you for

  1969. the peace

  1970. that you

  1971. are able

  1972. to give,

  1973. but it's

  1974. a peace

  1975. that we

  1976. so often

  1977. neglect or

  1978. turn away

  1979. from.

  1980. And we

  1981. do pray,

  1982. Lord, your

  1983. blessing on

  1984. us as a

  1985. people, that

  1986. you will

  1987. again revive

  1988. us, that

  1989. you will

  1990. show us

  1991. your mercy,

  1992. that you

  1993. will bring

  1994. us your

  1995. blessing,

  1996. O Lord,

  1997. and grant

  1998. us a day

  1999. of your

  2000. favour to

  2001. help us

  2002. to understand

  2003. the things

  2004. around us,

  2005. to understand

  2006. the days and

  2007. times that we

  2008. live in, and

  2009. to understand

  2010. above all our

  2011. great need of

  2012. Christ Jesus

  2013. as our Lord.

  2014. We ask it all

  2015. with the

  2016. forgiveness of

  2017. our sins, in

  2018. his precious

  2019. name.

  2020. Amen.

  2021. Amen.

  2022. We'll

  2023. conclude by

  2024. singing to

  2025. God's praise

  2026. in Psalm

  2027. 105.

  2028. We'll

  2029. sing

  2030. Psalms

  2031. version,

  2032. page 138,

  2033. Psalm 105,

    Psalms 105:1

  2034. verse 1

  2035. to verse

  2036. 11.

  2037. Give

  2038. thanks to

  2039. the Lord

  2040. God and

  2041. call on

  2042. his name,

  2043. his wonderful

  2044. deeds,

  2045. to the

  2046. nations

  2047. proclaim,

  2048. sing praises

  2049. to him,

  2050. his exploits

  2051. record.

  2052. Let all

  2053. those who

  2054. seek him

  2055. rejoice in

  2056. the Lord.

  2057. We'll

  2058. sing from

  2059. verse 1

  2060. to 11

  2061. to God's

  2062. praise.

  2063. Give

  2064. thanks to

  2065. the Lord

  2066. God

  2067. and

  2068. call on

  2069. his name,

  2070. his

  2071. wonderful

  2072. who

  2073. deeds to

  2074. the

  2075. nations

  2076. proclaim,

  2077. sing

  2078. praises

  2079. to him,

  2080. and his

  2081. exploits

  2082. report.

  2083. Let

  2084. all

  2085. those who

  2086. seek him

  2087. rejoice in

  2088. the Lord.

  2089. you

  2090. you

  2091. chosen

  2092. what

  2093. stood

  2094. to

  2095. the

  2096. Lord

  2097. and

  2098. his

  2099. might,

  2100. seek

  2101. ever

  2102. his

  2103. peace

  2104. and

  2105. his

  2106. wonders

  2107. recite,

  2108. his

  2109. miracles

  2110. true

  2111. and

  2112. his

  2113. judgments

  2114. divide,

  2115. your

  2116. children

  2117. of

  2118. heaven,

  2119. and

  2120. so

  2121. blind.

  2122. The

  2123. Lord is

  2124. our God

  2125. and

  2126. he

  2127. rules

  2128. all the

  2129. earth,

  2130. in

  2131. and

  2132. bring

  2133. his

  2134. covenant,

  2135. the

  2136. word

  2137. he

  2138. set

  2139. forth.

  2140. He

  2141. bowed for

  2142. the

  2143. ages

  2144. to

  2145. come

  2146. to

  2147. make

  2148. good,

  2149. his

  2150. promise

  2151. to

  2152. Abraham

  2153. to

  2154. I

  2155. shall

  2156. renew,

  2157. to

  2158. Jacob

  2159. his

  2160. sovereign

  2161. decree

  2162. must

  2163. make

  2164. sure,

  2165. where

  2166. his

  2167. service

  2168. is

  2169. common,

  2170. would

  2171. always

  2172. endure,

  2173. to

  2174. you

  2175. I

  2176. will

  2177. give

  2178. us

  2179. to

  2180. portion

  2181. to

  2182. stand

  2183. the

  2184. country

  2185. of

  2186. Canaan,

  2187. the

  2188. beautiful

  2189. land.

  2190. After the

  2191. benediction,

  2192. I'll go to

  2193. the main

  2194. door.

  2195. Now may

  2196. grace,

  2197. mercy,

  2198. and peace

  2199. from God,

  2200. Father,

  2201. Son,

  2202. and Holy

  2203. Spirit,

  2204. rest upon

  2205. and abide

  2206. with you

  2207. all now

  2208. and forever

  2209. more.

  2210. Amen.

  2211. Amen.

  2212. Amen.

  2213. Amen.
