  2. O come, let us sing to the Lord. Come, let us everyone a joyful noise make to the rock of our salvation.

  3. Let us before his presence come with praise and thankful voice.

  4. Let us sing psalms to him with grace and make a joyful noise.

  5. For God, a great God and great King, above all gods he is,

  6. depths of the earth are in his hand, the strength of hills is his.

  7. To him the spacious sea belongs, for he the same did make.

  8. The dry land also from his hands its form at first did take.

  9. O come and let us worship him, let us bow down with all.

  10. And on our knees before the Lord, our maker, let us fall.

  11. Verses 1 to 6, Psalm 95. O come, let us sing to the Lord.

  12. O come, let us sing to the Lord. Come, let us everyone.

  13. And on our knees before the Lord, our maker, let us sing to the Lord.

  14. And on our knees before the Lord, our maker, let us sing to the Lord.

  15. itions across the Lord, our maker, let us sing to the Wu's Awée.

  16. for His presence

  17. God

  18. with great

  19. and thankful

  20. voice.

  21. Let us

  22. take down

  23. to Him

  24. with grace

  25. and make

  26. a joyful

  27. noise.

  28. For God

  29. our

  30. great

  31. God

  32. and great

  33. King

  34. how

  35. all

  36. God

  37. He is

  38. Heaps

  39. of the

  40. earth

  41. are in

  42. His hand

  43. the strength

  44. of

  45. wilt

  46. this

  47. is

  48. to

  49. Him

  50. that

  51. spacious

  52. need

  53. d task

  54. to

  55. king

  56. and

  57. uth

  58. The dry land also from His hands

  59. is for the worshiping.

  60. O come and let us worship Him,

  61. let us burn out with all.

  62. And honor He before the Lord,

  63. our maker, let us call.

  64. Let us bow in prayer.

  65. Lord, as we gather before you this evening,

  66. we pray for grace that we may worship you in a right way.

  67. We give thanks for this opportunity of offering praise

  68. and thanksgiving to you.

  69. Indeed, we have been created to praise.

  70. Glory is the world of eternal praise.

  71. And when you put a new song in our mouth here,

  72. it is the beginning of that praise

  73. that will go on forever and ever.

  74. And so we pray, O Lord,

  75. that our hearts might be stirred up

  76. to offer that praise to you.

  77. We give thanks for the song

  78. that we just sang just now.

  79. We give thanks, Lord,

  80. for the way we sang it,

  81. the heartiness of it.

  82. And that is how it should always be

  83. when we seek to praise and magnify our Lord,

  84. because you are worthy of all praise and honor and glory.

  85. We pray that it might be an integral part of our lives,

  86. day in, day out,

  87. because there is always a reason to praise thee,

  88. even when things might be difficult in our own lives

  89. and when we might be facing heartache

  90. and pain and sorrow and difficulties.

  91. while these things in and of themselves are hard

  92. and there is nothing praiseworthy in these things,

  93. you are always worthy of praise.

  94. And so we pray that whatever our situation,

  95. we may lift up our hearts to you

  96. and that we might acknowledge you

  97. as God of heaven and earth

  98. and that we might praise you with all our heart

  99. and that we will give this sense of adoration

  100. and commitment that we belong to you.

  101. We give thanks for all your wonderful promises

  102. that are in the word

  103. and we pray that we might have this spirit of thanksgiving

  104. about us at all times,

  105. that we might remember that you have been gracious to us

  106. and that you have dealt with us

  107. not according to our deserving.

  108. You have dealt with us by your steadfast love

  109. you have dealt with us in ways

  110. that are often beyond our understanding

  111. or comprehension.

  112. But we give thanks, Lord, for your patience with us

  113. because there are so many times

  114. it would have been right for you to cast us off

  115. but you've stuck with us.

  116. Your love is unchanging

  117. because you are unchanging in your nature.

  118. And so we give thanks tonight

  119. for that unchanging love

  120. and we give thanks, Lord,

  121. for the way that you draw us to yourself,

  122. that you give us a heart for yourself.

  123. We have to confess, Lord,

  124. there was a day when we didn't have that

  125. and even if there was a sense of

  126. maybe of ascribing something to you,

  127. we didn't understand,

  128. we weren't aware,

  129. we were too caught up with ourselves

  130. but when you set your love upon us

  131. that changed

  132. and we began to see things in a different way.

  133. And so we give thanks, Lord,

  134. for delivering us from a fearful pit and mighty clay

  135. and setting our feet upon a rock,

  136. establishing our way

  137. and putting a new song in our mouth.

  138. And we pray that we will continue to sing

  139. that new song every day and every night

  140. and that you'll help us as we journey

  141. through this world.

  142. Bless this congregation, we pray.

  143. Bless our homes, our families

  144. and all whom we love.

  145. We pray to bless all who serve you.

  146. We pray for all the office bearers.

  147. We pray for all those who work

  148. in so many ways behind the scene.

  149. We pray, Lord, for our church officers.

  150. We pray for cleaners.

  151. We pray, Lord, for those who work

  152. with the young people.

  153. Lord, we give thanks for them.

  154. We remember the 55 plus fellowship as well.

  155. We remember, oh Lord,

  156. all our young people

  157. as they grow up in a very challenging

  158. and a very difficult day.

  159. We pray, Lord, to protect them

  160. and to keep them.

  161. Grant wisdom to parents

  162. and wisdom to leaders

  163. who are teaching them in the right way.

  164. What a wonderful opportunity that is given.

  165. And we pray that the seed that is sown

  166. in the early days of their life

  167. may indeed bear fruit

  168. that you will keep them

  169. from the evil that abounds in this world,

  170. the temptations which are many,

  171. and that you will watch over them.

  172. Lord, our God, we pray for those

  173. who love you and serve you

  174. in places of influence and prominence

  175. throughout our communities

  176. and indeed throughout our land.

  177. We give thanks, Lord,

  178. for every voice that is raised

  179. on your behalf

  180. and for every testimony that is born

  181. speaking of you.

  182. We give thanks, Lord,

  183. for the wonderful way

  184. that the gospel is spread

  185. and so often we don't hear about it.

  186. Every so often we get little glimpses

  187. that even in this country of ours

  188. when so often we see it

  189. as simply as in darkness.

  190. Yet so often there are pockets here

  191. and there are pockets there

  192. and where maybe the media

  193. doesn't in any way reflect

  194. maybe how many actually

  195. are seeking you

  196. and how many have a desire

  197. or a heart for you.

  198. Oh, Lord, grant us your grace

  199. as we wait upon you.

  200. Help us, Lord,

  201. to grow more like you day by day.

  202. Forgive us for what we are

  203. in and of ourselves.

  204. Forgive us, Lord,

  205. for the sympathy that we have with sin.

  206. Forgive us, Lord,

  207. for maybe how unkind

  208. we can be to one another

  209. by our actions

  210. and by our words.

  211. Lord, we pray that

  212. we may have a heart

  213. for one another,

  214. that the love of Jesus Christ

  215. may be evident in our lives,

  216. that we may care for one another.

  217. So often it's said of Jesus

  218. that he was moved with compassion.

  219. We pray that we might have

  220. something of our Savior's compassion

  221. in this world that we live in

  222. where it is difficult.

  223. Lord, we pray

  224. as we face challenges

  225. with financial restraints

  226. and with the cost of living crisis,

  227. we ask, Lord,

  228. that you will help

  229. and that you will grant wisdom

  230. to those who lead us,

  231. those in authority over us.

  232. We are commanded to pray

  233. for kings

  234. and for those in authority over us.

  235. It is our duty

  236. and so we pray for our king,

  237. for the royal family.

  238. We pray for those who lead us

  239. in Westminster,

  240. in Holyrood,

  241. and locally here in the council.

  242. Lord, grant them wisdom from above

  243. and even for those

  244. who don't look to you,

  245. we pray that you will move them

  246. in the right way

  247. because the king's heart

  248. is in the hand of the Lord

  249. and he will move it

  250. in whichever way he pleases

  251. because it is yours to do

  252. according to your will

  253. with the armies of heaven

  254. and with the inhabitants of the earth.

  255. It is up to you, Lord,

  256. to raise one up

  257. and to cast another down.

  258. You are the God

  259. who can change the times

  260. and the seasons.

  261. Help us, Lord,

  262. to have an insight

  263. and a sense of who you are

  264. in our life.

  265. May our focus

  266. always be upon you.

  267. And so we give thanks then

  268. for this evening

  269. as we seek to

  270. individually

  271. and personally

  272. and collectively

  273. give thanks to you

  274. for all that you do for us.

  275. You do so much.

  276. We have so much

  277. to be thankful for.

  278. We give thanks

  279. for the community

  280. that we live in,

  281. the community

  282. that we were brought up in.

  283. We give thanks, Lord,

  284. for,

  285. although it's not as it was,

  286. there is still

  287. gospel influence here.

  288. We give thanks

  289. and we pray

  290. that it might always be so.

  291. We pray to encourage

  292. the ministers here.

  293. We pray for

  294. Mr. McKeever

  295. and Mr. Smith, Lord.

  296. We pray to bless them

  297. and wives and families, Lord.

  298. We commit to your care

  299. and keeping.

  300. We give thanks, Lord,

  301. for bringing

  302. Calamurdu here

  303. and Joan.

  304. Lord, we pray

  305. that you'll bless them.

  306. Watch over us now,

  307. we pray,

  308. and as you brought them here,

  309. we pray for the

  310. congregation of North U.S.

  311. O Lord,

  312. we ask that

  313. it might please you

  314. to direct them

  315. in a way

  316. where you will lead

  317. a pastor to them

  318. because

  319. their loss

  320. is great,

  321. whereas

  322. as so often happens

  323. when one moves,

  324. then,

  325. although we are

  326. pleased,

  327. it leaves

  328. our congregation

  329. empty.

  330. So we pray for them.

  331. Watch over us,

  332. we pray,

  333. and do us good,

  334. cleansing us

  335. from our every sin

  336. in Jesus' name.

  337. Amen.

  338. We're going to sing again.

  339. Is it 23 or 139?

  340. 139.

  341. I couldn't remember.

  342. We're going to sing

  343. in Psalm 139A

  344. and sing Psalms.

  345. Psalm 139A

  346. verses 13 to 16.

  347. Psalm 139A

  348. and sing Psalms.

  349. And we're going to sing

  350. from verse 13

  351. to verse 16.

  352. For you, O Lord,

  353. created me,

  354. you wove me

  355. on your loom,

  356. my inmost being

  357. you have formed

  358. within my mother's womb.

  359. because I'm wonderfully made

  360. with all your praise

  361. I'll tell.

  362. Your workmanship

  363. is marvelous

  364. and this I know

  365. full well.

  366. When in the secret place

  367. my frame

  368. was made

  369. before my birth,

  370. you saw my body

  371. yet unformed

  372. within the depths

  373. of earth.

  374. And all the days

  375. that I should live

  376. which you ordained

  377. for me

  378. were written

  379. in your book,

  380. O Lord,

  381. before they came

  382. to be.

  383. Verses 13 to 16

  384. of Psalm 139A

  385. that's on page 181.

  386. For you, O Lord,

  387. created me.

  388. Amen.

  389. For you, O Lord,

  390. created me,

  391. you wove me

  392. on your loom.

  393. I am, O Lord,

  394. in you,

  395. that part

  396. within my brotherhood.

  397. Because I'm wonderfully

  398. with all your praise

  399. I tell.

  400. Your workmanship

  401. is marvelous

  402. and this I know

  403. Thank you, COVID-19.

  404. To solve my body evermore

  405. Within the depths of earth

  406. And all the days that I should live

  407. With you are made for me

  408. Were written in your book, O Lord

  409. Before they came to me

  410. We're going to read now in the book of Psalms

  411. Two Psalms, first of all in Psalm 145

  412. And then in Psalm 100

  413. First of all in the book of Psalms

  414. In Psalm 145

  415. I will extol you, my God and King

  416. And bless your name forever and ever

  417. Every day I will bless you

  418. And praise your name forever and ever

  419. Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised

  420. And his greatness is unsearchable

  421. One generation shall commend your works to another

  422. And shall declare your mighty acts

  423. On the glorious splendor of your majesty

  424. And on your wondrous works

  425. I will meditate

  426. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds

  427. And I will declare your greatness

  428. They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness

  429. And shall sing aloud of your righteousness

  430. The Lord is gracious and merciful

  431. Slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love

  432. The Lord is good to all

  433. And his mercy is over all that he has made

  434. All your works shall give thanks to you, O Lord

  435. And all your saints shall bless you

  436. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom

  437. And tell of your power

  438. To make known to the children of man

  439. Your mighty deeds

  440. And the glorious splendor of your kingdom

  441. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom

  442. And your dominion endures throughout all generations

  443. The Lord is faithful in all his words

  444. And kind in all his works

  445. The Lord upholds all who are falling

  446. And raises up all who are bowed down

  447. The eyes of all look to you

  448. And you give them their food in due season

  449. You open your hand

  450. And you satisfy the desire of every living thing

  451. The Lord is righteous in all his ways

  452. And kind in all his works

  453. The Lord is near to all who call on him

  454. To all who call on him in truth

  455. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him

  456. He also hears their cry and saves them

  457. The Lord preserves all who love him

  458. But the wicked he will destroy

  459. My mouth will speak the praise of the Lord

  460. And let all flesh bless his holy name forever and ever

  461. Then we turn to Psalm 100

  462. And we're going to look at this Psalm after we sing

  463. Psalm 100

  464. Make a joyful noise to the Lord

  465. All the earth

  466. Serve the Lord with gladness

  467. Come into his presence with singing

  468. Know that the Lord, he is God

  469. It is he who made us

  470. And we are his

  471. We are his people

  472. And the sheep of his pasture

  473. Enter his gates with thanksgiving

  474. And his courts with praise

  475. Give thanks to him

  476. Bless his name

  477. For the Lord is good

  478. His steadfast love endures forever

  479. And his faithfulness to all generations

  480. Amen and may God bless to us

  481. These readings of his holy word

  482. We're going to sing again in Psalm 23

  483. This is in Sing Psalm

  484. Psalm 23

  485. The whole psalm

  486. Page 28 in the psalm book

  487. Psalm 23

  488. The Lord is my shepherd

  489. No want shall I know

  490. He makes me lie down

  491. Where the green pastures grow

  492. He leads me to rest

  493. Where the calm waters flow

  494. My wandering steps

  495. He brings back to his way

  496. In straight paths of righteousness

  497. Making me stay

  498. And this he has done

  499. His great name to display

  500. Though I walk in death's valley

  501. Where darkness is near

  502. Because you are with me

  503. No evil I'll fear

  504. Your rod and your staff

  505. Bring me comfort and cheer

  506. In the sight of my enemies

  507. A table you spread

  508. The oil of rejoicing

  509. You pour on my head

  510. My cup overflows

  511. And I'm graciously fed

  512. So surely your covenant

  513. Mercy and grace

  514. Will follow me closely

  515. In all of my ways

  516. I will dwell

  517. In the house of the Lord

  518. All my days

  519. The whole psalm

  520. Psalm 23

  521. The Lord is my shepherd

  522. The Lord is my shepherd

  523. No want shall I know

  524. He makes me lie down

  525. Where the green pastures grow

  526. He leads me to rest

  527. Where the calm waters flow

  528. He leads me to rest

  529. Where the calm waters flow

  530. By wandering steps

  531. He brings back to his way

  532. In shape of righteousness

  533. Making me stay

  534. And this he has done

  535. His great name to display

  536. And this he has done

  537. His great name to display

  538. Though I walk in Dex Valley

  539. Where darkness is near

  540. Because you are with me

  541. No evil and fear

  542. Your rod and your staff

  543. Bring me comfort and cheer

  544. Your rod and your staff

  545. Bring me comfort and cheer

  546. In the sight of my enemies

  547. The table you spread

  548. The oil of rejoicing

  549. Here pour on my hands

  550. My cup overflows

  551. And I'm graciously fed

  552. My cup overflows

  553. And I'm graciously fed

  554. So surely your covenant

  555. And mercy and grace

  556. Will follow me closely

  557. In all of my ways

  558. I will dwell in the house

  559. Of the Lord Almighty

  560. I will dwell in the house

  561. Of the Lord Almighty

  562. Let's turn again to our second reading

  563. Psalm 100

  564. Just reflect for a little

  565. On this psalm

  566. Just read at the beginning

  567. I won't read the whole psalm again

  568. Make a joyful noise

  569. To the Lord all the earth

  570. Serve the Lord with gladness

  571. Come into his presence

  572. With singing

  573. And so on

  574. Now we know that

  575. Thanksgiving

  576. Is an essential part of life

  577. People who don't give thanks

  578. Just even in a general way

  579. Just in life in itself

  580. Are by and large

  581. I would say fairly unhappy people

  582. Because giving thanks

  583. Is something that really is spontaneous

  584. From a heart

  585. That appreciates

  586. And a heart

  587. That responds

  588. To life in general

  589. So if you find somebody

  590. Who is incapable

  591. Or rarely gives thanks

  592. You say to yourself

  593. Well there's something wrong

  594. With this person

  595. It would almost look like

  596. This person is fairly unhappy

  597. And certainly for a Christian

  598. Not to be giving thanks

  599. Is almost a contradiction

  600. Because it's part and partial

  601. Of our Christian life

  602. And you cannot read the scriptures

  603. You can't

  604. Particularly you can't

  605. Go through the Psalms

  606. Without being made aware

  607. Of thanksgiving

  608. And praise

  609. Really being at the very heart

  610. It's at the very heart

  611. Of the Psalter

  612. And so it would be very difficult

  613. For a Christian

  614. To be somebody

  615. Who is not a person

  616. Who is given to praise

  617. And given to thanksgiving

  618. Of course our time of thanksgiving

  619. Is a very important part

  620. Of our Christian calendar

  621. It has been for years and years

  622. We used to call it

  623. The harvest thanksgiving

  624. And rightly so

  625. Because I suppose

  626. Back in the day

  627. Most people were involved

  628. At one level or another

  629. With

  630. Even if it was only

  631. A few

  632. Crops

  633. And of

  634. Whether it was

  635. Hay

  636. Or barley

  637. Or whatever

  638. But most people

  639. Had something

  640. Or planted something

  641. Or grew something

  642. And so the harvest

  643. Thanksgiving

  644. Was a very

  645. Very important part

  646. Because there was

  647. An acknowledging

  648. That God is the God

  649. Of the seasons

  650. God said that

  651. There would always be

  652. Seed time

  653. And harvest time

  654. And so

  655. It is important

  656. That we

  657. Do give God

  658. The thanks

  659. That is due to his name

  660. Because we know

  661. That he is ultimately

  662. The God of the seasons

  663. So

  664. Thanksgiving

  665. And it is right

  666. That we always have

  667. This period of

  668. Thanksgiving

  669. Every year

  670. Now this psalm

  671. As we see

  672. Psalm 100

  673. Is a psalm

  674. That is bursting

  675. With praise

  676. And thanksgiving

  677. And in a sense

  678. It is almost fitting

  679. That it is

  680. Psalm 100

  681. Because

  682. 100 in a sense

  683. Is a standout number

  684. Whenever you get

  685. 100

  686. It is always something

  687. That stops you

  688. Whether it is

  689. Like for instance

  690. In cricket

  691. And they talk about

  692. Somebody getting

  693. A century of runs

  694. And they

  695. They count out

  696. How many centuries

  697. He made

  698. Or

  699. We

  700. When somebody reaches

  701. 100 years of age

  702. It is a landmark time

  703. And there is

  704. Well it was

  705. Up until very recently

  706. A card

  707. With a message

  708. Came from the queen

  709. Now it is

  710. It is the king

  711. So

  712. 100 is always recognised

  713. When you go through

  714. The bible

  715. You will often see

  716. 100 as a

  717. Very special number

  718. And it is only fitting

  719. That Psalm 100

  720. Is this psalm

  721. That is just

  722. Filled

  723. It is bursting

  724. With praise

  725. And thanksgiving

  726. To God

  727. And we find

  728. The title

  729. If you have it

  730. It is an ESV

  731. You have it

  732. It says at the top of it

  733. His steadfast love

  734. Endures forever

  735. And what a wonderful

  736. Thought that is

  737. God's steadfast love

  738. Endures forever

  739. And even if there was

  740. No other statement

  741. Made

  742. Other than

  743. The title that we have

  744. Over that

  745. That would be

  746. A reason itself

  747. For praise

  748. And thanksgiving

  749. Tonight

  750. But then we see

  751. Below that

  752. It says

  753. A psalm

  754. For giving thanks

  755. So that is what

  756. What this

  757. Particular psalm

  758. Is here tonight

  759. And it begins

  760. By showing us

  761. Ways of being

  762. Thankful to the Lord

  763. It says

  764. Make a joyful noise

  765. To the Lord

  766. Serve the Lord

  767. With gladness

  768. And come into

  769. His presence

  770. With singing

  771. So to make

  772. A joyful noise

  773. In a sense

  774. This is making

  775. A public confession

  776. It is

  777. It's almost like

  778. A royal fanfare

  779. It's a declaration

  780. Before God

  781. That he is God

  782. Of heaven and earth

  783. And that he is

  784. Worthy of honour

  785. And praise

  786. And glory

  787. In fact

  788. You'll often find

  789. In the Psalms

  790. There's a

  791. A cry

  792. A call

  793. For us

  794. To

  795. Worship God

  796. Making a noise

  797. Now the singing

  798. Tonight

  799. Was really

  800. Beautiful

  801. And

  802. So it should be

  803. Because

  804. It's God

  805. We're praising

  806. And I know

  807. That everybody

  808. Hasn't been blessed

  809. With the best voice

  810. Some people

  811. Have been blessed

  812. With great voices

  813. Other people

  814. Haven't

  815. I know some people

  816. And they long

  817. To get to glory

  818. One man in particular

  819. Very much used

  820. By the Lord

  821. Was the late

  822. Kenny MacDonald

  823. And he couldn't

  824. Sing at all

  825. And he would say

  826. You know this

  827. I can't wait

  828. To get to glory

  829. Where I'll be able

  830. To express

  831. To praise God

  832. Because

  833. It's something

  834. I can't do here

  835. I haven't

  836. Just don't have

  837. A singing voice

  838. So

  839. But we can still

  840. Do it with our heart

  841. And we do

  842. Praise God

  843. With our heart

  844. As well

  845. Even if we can

  846. But

  847. So often

  848. In the Bible

  849. It talks about

  850. Giving

  851. Visible

  852. And audible

  853. Expression

  854. To God

  855. For instance

  856. In Psalm 47

  857. It says

  858. Clap your hands

  859. All peoples

  860. Shout to God

  861. With loud songs

  862. Now

  863. I know our

  864. Culture is different

  865. I'm sure we would

  866. Get a shock

  867. If we started

  868. Actually

  869. Doing that

  870. Just now

  871. And making these

  872. Shouts

  873. And clap

  874. But the idea

  875. We find

  876. So often

  877. In scripture

  878. Is that

  879. God is somebody

  880. Who is worthy

  881. Of praise

  882. And honour

  883. And when you

  884. Look round

  885. In this world

  886. And you see

  887. So many people

  888. Who are calling

  889. Out their rights

  890. And people

  891. Who are shouting

  892. About this

  893. And shouting

  894. About that

  895. They do shout

  896. They do make

  897. A noise

  898. And so often

  899. The church

  900. Is just

  901. It's almost

  902. Like a wee

  903. Whisper

  904. You look at

  905. Football matches

  906. And the singing

  907. And terracing

  908. And the shouting

  909. And yet

  910. And so often

  911. When we

  912. Maybe come

  913. To worship God

  914. Might only be

  915. A whisper

  916. Or

  917. A poor

  918. Sound

  919. Now

  920. Don't get me wrong

  921. I'm not saying

  922. That's how

  923. It is here

  924. But it can be

  925. And as I say

  926. I thank the Lord

  927. Tonight

  928. For the

  929. The lovely

  930. The lovely singing

  931. So it's important

  932. Make a joy

  933. Joyful noise

  934. To the

  935. To the Lord

  936. All the earth

  937. And then

  938. It says in verse 2

  939. Serve the Lord

  940. With gladness

  941. And you know

  942. This is the most

  943. Incredible privilege

  944. That you and I

  945. Have been given

  946. Because all of us

  947. In here tonight

  948. If you love the Lord

  949. You are in service

  950. To the Lord

  951. And the Lord

  952. Will always give you

  953. Something to do

  954. And sometimes

  955. We need a little bit

  956. Of pushing into

  957. That service

  958. But we should all

  959. Be involved

  960. In serving the Lord

  961. And here he is

  962. The creator

  963. Of heaven

  964. And earth

  965. And he has us

  966. As his servants

  967. Here in this world

  968. Because you think about it

  969. The Lord didn't send

  970. The Lord doesn't send

  971. Angels down from heaven

  972. To preach

  973. Or to lead the singing

  974. Or to open churches

  975. Or to do the Sunday school

  976. Or to teach people

  977. Or to witness

  978. Or to help

  979. Or to be missionaries

  980. It's not angels

  981. He sent

  982. It's us

  983. Uses us

  984. And so

  985. We've always got to

  986. Remember that

  987. The witnessing

  988. The telling

  989. Of people

  990. Telling people

  991. About Jesus Christ

  992. It's our responsibility

  993. It's our duty

  994. It's our

  995. Work

  996. To serve

  997. And so

  998. We're told here

  999. That we are to

  1000. Serve the Lord

  1001. With

  1002. What does it say

  1003. Serve the Lord

  1004. With gladness

  1005. And so

  1006. When we come in

1007. To service with the Lord

1008. When we come to serve

  1009. When we come to

  1010. Worship the Lord

  1011. We need to have

  1012. Gladness in our heart

  1013. And I think

  1014. There's quite a responsibility

  1015. Upon us

  1016. Because

  1017. Sometimes we can

  1018. Come into church

  1019. Going through all kinds

  1020. Of do

1021. We can come in with

  1022. And we do

  1023. With all our issues

  1024. With all our baggage

1025. With all that's been going on

  1026. Throughout the day

  1027. Or throughout the week

1028. And that's important as well

1029. That we come with these things

1030. And bring them before the Lord

1031. But there comes a specific time

  1032. When our focus

  1033. Is upon the Lord

1034. And we must put aside

  1035. All these other things

  1036. And focus upon Him

  1037. And give Him

  1038. This worship

  1039. And this service

1040. That is due to His name

  1041. But

  1042. Whatever we're doing

  1043. For the Lord

1044. Make sure that we do

  1045. Our service

  1046. With gladness

  1047. Because the Lord

  1048. Sees our attitude

1049. He sees how we serve

  1050. He sees the spirit

  1051. That we have

  1052. In our service

1053. He sees whether we do it

  1054. Willingly

  1055. Or grudgingly

1056. Whether we do it gladly

  1057. Or whether it's just

  1058. A burden to us

  1059. You know

  1060. If

  1061. If you're out for a meal

  1062. And

  1063. The waiter or waitress

  1064. Is sort of

  1065. Really grumpy

  1066. And kind of

1067. Throwing the food at you

  1068. I don't mean

  1069. Like throwing the food

1070. But throwing the plates down

  1071. And

  1072. It's like

  1073. Everything is a

  1074. It's a burden

  1075. And you just

  1076. You can see

  1077. This person

  1078. Just does not want

  1079. To be here

  1080. And their whole

  1081. Demeanor

  1082. And everything about it

  1083. Is just

  1084. In fact

  1085. It

  1086. Spoils the meal

  1087. Because the actual

  1088. Service that you can

  1089. That you can get

  1090. Can either be

  1091. An uplifting experience

  1092. Or else

1093. It can put you down

  1094. And how much more

  1095. With regard to

  1096. Our service

1097. To the king of glory

  1098. Because

  1099. We're serving

  1100. Every single Christian

  1101. All of you

  1102. You're serving the lord

1103. Wherever he has put you

  1104. And whether it's

  1105. In a big thing

1106. Or in a little thing

  1107. You're still serving

  1108. So you make sure

  1109. That your service

  1110. Is done

  1111. With

  1112. Gladness

  1113. Because that's what

  1114. That is

  1115. That's what is

  1116. Required of it

  1117. Of us

  1118. That our heart

  1119. Is in it

  1120. And that we are

  1121. To come

  1122. Into his presence

  1123. With singing

  1124. And again

  1125. This involves

  1126. Like our whole being

  1127. Where we're giving

1128. We're giving to the lord

  1129. A sense of

  1130. Our adoration

  1131. To him

  1132. Of we're paying

  1133. As it were

  1134. Like homage to him

1135. And as we go back

  1136. To verse 1

  1137. Where it says

  1138. Make a joyful noise

  1139. To the lord

  1140. We're saying

  1141. All people

1142. We know how it goes

  1143. In the psalm

  1144. In the metrics

  1145. All people

  1146. That on earth

  1147. To dwell

  1148. Sing to the lord

  1149. With cheerful voice

  1150. It's like

1151. It's like the whole world

  1152. Is

  1153. They're making a claim

  1154. On

  1155. Who god is

  1156. And so

  1157. We have to

  1158. We have to

  1159. Give

  1160. Voice

  1161. In our praise

  1162. And then verse 3

  1163. It says

  1164. Know

  1165. That the lord

  1166. He is god

  1167. Yes we give thanks

1168. And we do so joyfully

1169. But we also do it

  1170. Intelligently

  1171. In other words

  1172. We know

  1173. Who we're

  1174. Who we're

  1175. Singing to

  1176. We know who we're

  1177. Praising

  1178. We know who we're

  1179. Giving thanks to

  1180. We're not doing this

  1181. Kind of blindly

  1182. We know

  1183. Who this god is

  1184. And tonight

  1185. We give him thanks

  1186. We give him thanks

  1187. For who he is

  1188. In himself

  1189. For his glory

  1190. His majesty

  1191. His authority

  1192. His dominion

  1193. His rule

  1194. His government

  1195. We give thanks

  1196. To god

  1197. For all that

  1198. He is in himself

  1199. And all that

  1200. He's done for us

  1201. For answering

  1202. Our prayers

  1203. For his grace

  1204. For his mercy

  1205. For his pardon

  1206. His forgiveness

  1207. His peace

  1208. His love

  1209. His joy

  1210. Just so much

  1211. That he gives us

  1212. And so

  1213. When we

  1214. When we come

  1215. Worshiping the lord

  1216. That's what it says

  1217. We know the lord

  1218. We know who

  1219. We're worshipping

  1220. Many

  1221. Don't worship god

  1222. Because they don't know

  1223. I'm sure many people

  1224. Wonder why are they

  1225. Going

  1226. Why are they going

1227. To church during the week

  1228. What's it all about

1229. Well if they knew god

  1230. They would join us

  1231. But it's because

  1232. They don't know

  1233. They don't know

  1234. Who god is

  1235. They've never come

  1236. To grasp

  1237. Who he is

  1238. If they did

1239. If they had the same

  1240. Understanding

  1241. And knowledge

  1242. Of who god is

1243. Then it would be different

  1244. They would

  1245. They would join

  1246. With us

  1247. And that's what

  1248. What we do

  1249. We worship

  1250. A god we know

  1251. Remember how

  1252. Paul in Athens

  1253. He came across

  1254. People who are

  1255. Worshipping the

  1256. Unknown god

  1257. None of us

  1258. Tonight

  1259. Are worshipping

  1260. The unknown god

  1261. We know

  1262. Who we worship

  1263. And then it says

  1264. Know that the lord

  1265. He is god

  1266. It is he who

  1267. Made us

  1268. And we

  1269. Are his

  1270. Now Isaiah

  1271. Terms that

  1272. We are the work

  1273. Of his hands

  1274. And when you think

  1275. About it

  1276. The awesome

  1277. Skill

  1278. And the intricate

  1279. Minuteness

  1280. That went into

  1281. The creation

  1282. Of us

  1283. When you think

  1284. That from the dust

  1285. To the ground

  1286. That god took

  1287. And he made

  1288. He formed

  1289. When you think

  1290. Of the

  1291. Skeletal structure

  1292. That we are

  1293. And we think

  1294. Of all the

  1295. The

  1296. The different

  1297. Whether it's

  1298. The respiratory

  1299. System

  1300. Or the pulmonary

  1301. System

  1302. Or the reproductive

  1303. System

  1304. Or the nervous

  1305. System

  1306. And all the joints

  1307. And all the tendons

  1308. And all the muscles

  1309. And this awesome

  1310. Brain

  1311. Who just

  1312. Just beyond

  1313. Any mind

  1314. The comprehension

  1315. To comprehend

  1316. Just what it is

  1317. And it's from the

  1318. Dust to the ground

  1319. When you think

  1320. Of the wisdom

  1321. And the planning

  1322. And the power

  1323. That went in

  1324. To the creation

  1325. And then

  1326. In the creating

  1327. Of the woman

  1328. From the man

  1329. Taking the rib

  1330. And built

  1331. And fashioned

  1332. And shaped

  1333. And brought together

  1334. And that's

  1335. That's what

  1336. It's telling us

  1337. Here

  1338. Know that the

  1339. Lord he is God

  1340. It is he

  1341. Who has made us

  1342. And we are his

  1343. And it's little

  1344. Wonder that the

  1345. Psalmist

  1346. Was saying

  1347. We are fearfully

  1348. And wonderfully

  1349. Made

  1350. But as we know

  1351. Tragically

  1352. Despite the wonder

  1353. Of what God did

  1354. It wasn't enough

  1355. Remember how

  1356. Adam and Eve

  1357. What God

  1358. Did for them

  1359. What God

  1360. Made them

  1361. What God

  1362. Provided for them

  1363. It still wasn't

  1364. Enough

  1365. They wanted more

  1366. And it's still

  1367. The same today

  1368. And we know

  1369. The result

  1370. Of where

  1371. Everything

  1372. Beautiful

  1373. That was made

  1374. Was smashed

  1375. Not only did God

  1376. Make us

  1377. Brilliantly

  1378. Physically

  1379. And mentally

  1380. But he also

  1381. Morally

  1382. And spiritually

  1383. And knowledge

  1384. Righteousness

  1385. And holiness

  1386. And bang

  1387. The fall

  1388. Shattered

  1389. Everything

  1390. Not only

  1391. Ourselves

  1392. But the

  1393. Whole

  1394. Creation

  1395. The whole

  1396. Creation

  1397. Is groaning

  1398. Everything

  1399. That's why

  1400. There's tsunamis

  1401. And earthquakes

  1402. And floods

  1403. And droughts

  1404. And everything

  1405. The fall

  1406. Impacted

  1407. Everything

  1408. Altogether

  1409. But you

  1410. God

  1411. God

  1412. God

  1413. Didn't give

  1414. Up on us

  1415. God

  1416. Came after

  1417. Us

  1418. And right

  1419. From the

  1420. Very dawn

  1421. Of history

  1422. We find

  1423. God's

  1424. Promises

  1425. Running

  1426. Right

  1427. Through the

  1428. Word

  1429. Because God

  1430. Had a purpose

  1431. In all that

  1432. He did

  1433. And his love

  1434. And his love

  1435. His patience

  1436. His foreknowledge

  1437. He worked

  1438. It all

  1439. And so we

  1440. Are his

  1441. Twice over

  1442. We were his

  1443. First of all

  1444. In the

  1445. Original creation

  1446. And then we

  1447. Are his again

  1448. Through Jesus

  1449. Christ

  1450. Because Jesus

  1451. Is termed

  1452. The redeemer

  1453. And a redeemer's

  1454. Work is to buy

  1455. Back

  1456. What once

  1457. Belonged

  1458. That's what

  1459. Jesus has done

  1460. He has bought

  1461. Us

  1462. Back

  1463. To God

  1464. Bought us

  1465. And brought us

  1466. Paid the price

  1467. And brought us

  1468. Back to God

  1469. So we

  1470. Are his

  1471. So here's

  1472. A great cause

  1473. For thanksgiving

  1474. Here's this love

  1475. That

  1476. Absolutely

  1477. Refused

  1478. To give up

  1479. So we

  1480. Are his

  1481. It is

  1482. He who made us

  1483. And we are his

  1484. We are his people

  1485. And the sheep

  1486. Of his pasture

  1487. You know

  1488. It's one of the

  1489. Great themes

  1490. Of the Bible

  1491. Is that

  1492. We are

  1493. God's sheep

  1494. Right through

  1495. The Old Testament

  1496. God was termed

  1497. Israel's shepherd

  1498. In the New Testament

  1499. Jesus is termed

  1500. The good shepherd

  1501. The great shepherd

  1502. And the chief shepherd

1503. And he is the shepherd

  1504. Who cares

  1505. And tends

  1506. And looks after

  1507. And provides

  1508. The shepherd

  1509. Who has never lost

  1510. A sheep

  1511. Or a lamb

  1512. Ever

  1513. And so

  1514. We are

  1515. His people

  1516. Now

  1517. I think maybe

  1518. We've said this before

  1519. But in

  1520. In the parts

  1521. Where we

  1522. Belong

  1523. With the parts

  1524. Where we live

  1525. So often

  1526. Maybe with more

  1527. And more

  1528. People moving in

  1529. From

  1530. From

  1531. Out with

1532. But it used to be such

  1533. That when you would

  1534. Meet somebody

1535. Maybe for the first time

  1536. People would ask

  1537. Who are your people?

  1538. So that question

  1539. Has been asked

  1540. Of you

  1541. Throughout your life

  1542. At some time

  1543. Who are your people?

  1544. When somebody's trying

1545. To work out who you are

1546. Now who are your people?

  1547. And rightly or wrongly

1548. When they maybe work out

  1549. Who your people are

  1550. They make a judgment

  1551. Of an assessment

  1552. Of who you are

  1553. Whether it's a right assessment

  1554. Or a wrong assessment

  1555. But your people

  1556. Come into play

  1557. As they look

  1558. At you

  1559. And

  1560. We can apply that

  1561. Spiritually as well

  1562. Because

  1563. We are God's people

  1564. We belong

  1565. To God

  1566. And you know

  1567. How

  1568. The characteristics

  1569. And mannerisms

  1570. Run through families

1571. You see it in people

  1572. Quite often

  1573. We say

1574. Oh it's in their people

1575. Whether it might be a wit

  1576. It might be

1577. People who are really clever

  1578. Traits of character

1579. Oh it's in the people

  1580. We often say that

  1581. Well we apply that

  1582. Spiritually

1583. And it should be true

  1584. Of every Christian

  1585. It's in the people

  1586. What's in the people?

  1587. Christ likeness

  1588. We should be

  1589. Ressembling Jesus

  1590. More and more

  1591. Every year

  1592. Because

  1593. He is

  1594. Our saviour

  1595. He is

  1596. Our shepherd

  1597. He is at work

  1598. Within us

  1599. He's moulding us

  1600. And he's shaping us

  1601. And he's changing us

  1602. Every day

  1603. Every week

  1604. Every month

  1605. Every year

  1606. So that we

  1607. Become more

  1608. And more

  1609. Like him

  1610. And

  1611. That's

  1612. That's

  1613. What the Lord

  1614. Is doing

  1615. And although

1616. This is a wonderful thing

  1617. It says

  1618. We are his people

  1619. You know

  1620. God has made everything

  1621. In this world

  1622. We're told that

1623. That everything that was made

  1624. Was made by him

  1625. But out of

  1626. Everything in the whole

  1627. Wide world

  1628. And everyone

1629. In the whole wide world

  1630. There is only one

  1631. Group

  1632. That he's

  1633. Has a special

  1634. Claim upon

1635. And that's you and me

  1636. His people

1637. Out of everything in the world

1638. He doesn't say that about

  1639. Anything else

  1640. His people

  1641. Are his portion

  1642. Nothing else

1643. The end of the day

  1644. Nothing else counts

  1645. This is all

  1646. That counts

  1647. That's not a reason

  1648. For pride

  1649. It's not a reason

  1650. For taking any

  1651. Glory to ourselves

  1652. In fact

  1653. It's the very opposite

  1654. That should be

  1655. The most humbling thing

  1656. And yet

  1657. Which should

  1658. Fire us up

  1659. With a great sense

  1660. Of thanksgiving

  1661. And awe

  1662. And wonder

  1663. That the God

  1664. Of heaven and earth

  1665. Has set his love

  1666. Upon you and me

1667. Out of all the people

  1668. Of the world

  1669. And you

  1670. Are his special

  1671. People

  1672. His special

  1673. Portion

  1674. And he takes glory

  1675. To his own name

  1676. In you

  1677. It's a humbling

1678. It's quite an extraordinary thing

  1679. And then

  1680. It says here

  1681. We are his people

  1682. And the sheep

  1683. Of his pasture

  1684. The sheep

  1685. Of his pasture

  1686. And that's what

  1687. We sang there

  1688. In Psalm 23

  1689. That

  1690. How we lie down

  1691. In green pastures

  1692. You and I know

  1693. That there are

  1694. Certain times

  1695. The sheep

  1696. Will not lie down

  1697. Sheep won't lie down

  1698. If they're scared

  1699. If they're afraid

  1700. Sheep won't lie down

  1701. If they're hungry

  1702. You can't get a hungry

  1703. Sheep to lie down

  1704. Do you know

1705. If you want to see

  1706. This picture of contentment

  1707. That Psalm 23

  1708. Paints for us

  1709. And it's such a beautiful

  1710. Picture of the sheep

  1711. By the still water

  1712. And the green pasture

  1713. It's a picture

  1714. Of absolute contentment

  1715. That only

  1716. Well watered

  1717. Well fed sheep

  1718. Will give you

  1719. And that's

1720. What it's talking about here

  1721. It's his pasture

  1722. He has provided

  1723. For us

  1724. This pasture land

  1725. And where is it?

  1726. Well it's here

  1727. His word

  1728. It's here

  1729. Where we come together

  1730. That's why God's house

  1731. Is a special place

  1732. Because God

  1733. Meets with us

  1734. And he gives us

  1735. Of his food

  1736. And

  1737. Remember this

  1738. The world

  1739. Has not one

  1740. Thing

  1741. For your soul

  1742. Nothing

  1743. Zero

  1744. You will never get

  1745. Anything in this world

  1746. That will

  1747. Nourish

  1748. Or fill

  1749. Your soul

1750. There's things in this world

  1751. Which might be good

  1752. For the body

  1753. And such like

1754. And good for the mind

  1755. But there's nothing

  1756. For the soul

  1757. It is through

  1758. The word

  1759. Through the feeding

  1760. Through the teaching

  1761. Through the work

  1762. Of God's spirit

  1763. Touching our hearts

  1764. And so

  1765. He's given us

  1766. This lavish feeding

  1767. And if we're struggling

  1768. If we're empty

  1769. If we're hungry

  1770. The fault is not

  1771. With a shepherd

  1772. It's not with a pasture

  1773. Because a beautiful

  1774. Pasture land

  1775. It's rich

  1776. It's luscious

  1777. There's everything

  1778. You could want

  1779. In it

  1780. So we're hungry

  1781. Then there's something

  1782. Wrong with us

  1783. Not with a shepherd

1784. Not with the pasture land

1785. It can only be with us

1786. So we need to ask

  1787. The Lord

  1788. Lord help me

  1789. Help me to appreciate

  1790. The feeding

  1791. You've given

  1792. Help me to

  1793. Enjoy it

  1794. Help me to be

  1795. Nourished by it

  1796. Help me to be

  1797. Strengthened by it

  1798. Help me to be

  1799. Built up by it

  1800. Thank him for this

  1801. And then finally

  1802. Just in a word

  1803. We see the invitation

  1804. That is given

  1805. Enter his gates

  1806. With thanksgiving

  1807. And his courts

  1808. With praise

  1809. You know

  1810. It's quite wonderful

  1811. When you see

  1812. Enter his gates

  1813. With thanksgiving

  1814. And his courts

  1815. With praise

  1816. It would bring you

1817. Back into the Old Testament

  1818. And to the temple

  1819. And to the courts

  1820. That are there

  1821. And to God's house

  1822. And you know

  1823. One of the wonderful

  1824. Things is

  1825. That when we

  1826. Think back

  1827. There was one

  1828. Special place

  1829. Within the temple

  1830. Which was

  1831. The most holy place

1832. Or the holy of holies

1833. It was the one place

  1834. Nobody could get to

1835. Apart from the high priest

  1836. Once a year

  1837. But remember

  1838. When Jesus

  1839. Cried out

  1840. It is finished

1841. The veil of the temple

  1842. Was torn in two

  1843. And now there is

  1844. Immediate access

  1845. Into his presence

  1846. And that's where

  1847. We're invited

  1848. We're invited

  1849. Ushered in

  1850. Through

  1851. Through the door

  1852. Through into

  1853. The presence

  1854. Of the king

  1855. And that's a wonder

  1856. Wonder and glory

  1857. Of it

  1858. Give thanks to him

  1859. Bless his name

1860. For the lord is good

  1861. His steadfast love

  1862. Endures forever

  1863. Isn't that wonderful

  1864. See that word

  1865. Steadfast

  1866. It means that it

  1867. Cannot be moved

  1868. It is absolutely

  1869. It's a rock

  1870. Of fixedness

  1871. And that's who

  1872. God's love

  1873. Is to you

  1874. And also notice

  1875. It also finishes

  1876. By saying

  1877. His faithfulness

  1878. To all

  1879. Generations

  1880. It's not great

  1881. All generations

  1882. And you look back

  1883. And you look at

  1884. The faithfulness

  1885. Of God

  1886. To Noah

  1887. And to Abraham

  1888. And to Isaac

  1889. And to Jacob

  1890. And to Joseph

  1891. And to Moses

  1892. And to David

  1893. And to Daniel

  1894. To John

  1895. And to Paul

  1896. And so on

  1897. Right down to you

  1898. Throughout the generations

  1899. And he will continue

  1900. His faithfulness

  1901. Will continue

  1902. Throughout all generations

  1903. So tonight

  1904. May we seek

  1905. To praise the lord

  1906. And give him thanks

  1907. Because sometimes

  1908. You know

1909. We get used to it

  1910. Don't we

  1911. There are times

  1912. We get used

  1913. To what we have

  1914. We've lost

  1915. The sense of wonder

  1916. That we should have

1917. Remember how it first was

  1918. When you

  1919. First came

  1920. To see the lord

  1921. To appreciate

  1922. What he had done

  1923. When you first

  1924. Took a wee taste

  1925. In the pasture land

  1926. When you first

  1927. Laid hold upon

  1928. The fact that

  1929. You were his

1930. That he had made you

  1931. The wonder of it

  1932. The newness of it

  1933. But sometimes

  1934. The years cause

  1935. That to fade

  1936. They shouldn't

  1937. It shouldn't

1938. It should be the reverse

  1939. We should in fact

  1940. Be praising him

  1941. More and more

  1942. And more

1943. For what he has done

  1944. For us

  1945. Let us pray

  1946. Lord our God

  1947. We give thanks

  1948. For our time together

  1949. Where we were able

  1950. To think about

  1951. Why we should be

  1952. Praising and thanking you

1953. And there is no end

  1954. For our reason

  1955. To praise and thank

1956. It's what we will be doing

  1957. Throughout an endless eternity

  1958. It is

  1959. Indeed what we see

  1960. That

  1961. The

  1962. The

  1963. The saints

  1964. In glory

  1965. Are praising the lamb

  1966. Worthy as a lamb

  1967. To receive honour

  1968. And glory

  1969. And praise

  1970. And as we journey

  1971. Through this world

  1972. We pray

1973. And the closer we get

  1974. To the land

  1975. Of eternal praise

  1976. We pray

  1977. That praise

  1978. Might become

  1979. More and more

  1980. Part

1981. Of what we are about

  1982. Bless us

  1983. And we pray

  1984. Bless us Lord

  1985. Those who mourn

  1986. Those who are sad

  1987. And despite the fact

  1988. That we do think

  1989. Tonight

  1990. Of praise

  1991. And thanksgiving

  1992. We do know Lord

  1993. That while you require

  1994. This of us

  1995. You are the God

  1996. Who understands

  1997. Our weaknesses

  1998. You are the God

  1999. Who is able to

2000. Bind up the broken hearted

2001. And so we give thanks

  2002. Lord

  2003. Even for that

  2004. Do us good then

2005. And take us to our home

  2006. Safely

  2007. And cleanse us

  2008. From our every sin

  2013. Singing in Psalm

  2015. Psalm 72

  2016. There are so many

2017. Psalms that we could have

  2018. Sung in conclusion

2019. Could have sung this Psalm

  2020. Itself

  2021. Psalm 100

  2022. But of course

  2023. This is one that

2024. We are all so familiar with

  2025. It is a Psalm

  2026. That is absolutely

  2027. Bursting

  2028. Full of praise
