  1. there. So with these intimations then we'll begin our worship today and we're singing firstly

  2. Psalm 145, Psalm 145, the second version of the psalm that's on page 444 and verses 1 to 7.

  3. O Lord, thou art my God and King, thee will I magnify and praise. I will thee bless and gladly

  4. sing unto thy holy name always. Each day I rise I will thee bless and praise thy name time without

  5. end. Much to be praised and great God is, his greatness none can comprehend. How wonderful

  6. it is to be reminded in this opening psalm of God's worthiness to be praised, of his greatness

  7. and of his might and all other aspects of his being that make him worthy of our praise. So

  8. with the worthiness of God in our minds, let's stand to sing these verses. O Lord, thou art

  9. my God and King. O Lord, thou art my God and King, thee will I magnify and praise. I will thee bless and gladly sing.

  10. O Lord, thou art my God and world and never say can I?

  11. And great God is, His greatness done and of the end.

  12. Great child, my word, great child to raise the mighty hand so done by Thee.

  13. Thy mercy, God, and glorious grace, and honor all Thy majesty.

  14. Thy wondrous works, I will impart, Thy end and my joy be extrobed.

  15. O God, Thy grateful acts, O Lord, and Thy, Thy greatness will unfold.

  16. They utter shall upon the tree the memory of Thy goodness quake.

  17. And chants in praises cheerfully, I may Thy righteousness prevail.

  18. Let's now call upon the Lord in prayer. Let's unite our minds in prayer.

  19. Amen.

  20. Almighty and gracious God, we give thanks for these great attributes that we have been singing of,

  21. of Your greatness that comprise the beauty and the perfection of Your being.

  22. We thank You, Lord, today that You have reminded us of Your worthiness to be praised,

  23. that You alone are worthy of worship.

  24. And so we gather together, Lord, today to worship You.

  25. Help us to do so, Lord, with our hearts truly set upon the glorifying of Your name.

  26. Help us to come before You with a true spirit of worship in our minds and hearts,

  27. with our mind focused on those things that You have revealed in Your Word.

  28. With our hearts, Lord, as we seek the blessing of Your Holy Spirit upon us,

  29. our hearts quickened, our hearts revived,

  30. and our hearts brought into tune with Your truth.

  31. We thank You today, O Lord, that we have this opportunity,

  32. this great privilege once again of being together to worship You as our God.

  33. And we pray as we do so, Lord, that You would guide us into Your truth.

  34. We thank You for the way in which we have Your own truth set out for us in written form,

  35. and for the way that You have brought it to us in our generation,

  36. with all its authority and relevance for our age,

  37. as has been the case down through the years in the history of the world.

  38. We thank You today, Lord, as we look back upon all that You have accomplished,

  39. that You entered into this world in such a way as to provide for us an access to Yourself,

  40. an access which we now use in the name of Jesus,

  41. who is Himself the way, the truth, and the life.

  42. We thank You today, Lord, that He took our human nature to Himself,

  43. that You did so in such a way as would combine in His person the wonder of God and man combined,

  44. and yet combined in such a way to retain the distinctness of the godhood and also of the manhood.

  45. We thank You today, Lord, for the wonder of Your person,

  46. for the beauty that pertains to You.

  47. We pray today as we worship You that we would once again catch a glimpse of Your beauty,

  48. for Your beauty makes us, Lord, stand in awe at Your majesty and Your perfection and Your truth.

  49. And we come, Lord, today, and our hearts are needy that we should once again meet with You.

  50. We pray, Lord, each of us here that You would bless us from Your Word,

  51. that You would give to us, O Lord, as we struggle with many issues in life.

  52. Help us, we pray, to realize Your perfection as the God and King of Your people.

  53. We pray today, O Lord, that You would, as we seek the guidance of Your Spirit into Your Word,

  54. we pray that You would help us, too, to retain it and to apply it in our lives in such a way, Lord,

  55. as would reflect the beauty of Christ in us.

  56. We ask today that Your blessing will be with all Your people wherever they gather.

  57. We recognize, Lord, even as we are reminded in our bulletin sheet today of places in the world where people are persecuted

  58. and even put to death for their faith, for their adherence to the Lord Jesus Christ,

  59. and for the way in which they are determined not to be deflected from following Him,

  60. from honoring Him, from speaking of Him.

  61. Lord, we pray today that Your blessing will be with all agencies that seek to uphold these persecuted Christians,

  62. whether it be through the Barnabas Fund or through Steadfast Global.

  63. We pray for all their efforts, O Lord, and we pray for all Your people in the world today

  64. when we are able to rejoice in the freedom that we have,

  65. the many ways in which we can gather without fear as we do here today.

  66. Lord, we pray for these places in the world where Your people don't have these liberties

  67. and yet where they remain faithful to You.

  68. We ask, Lord, for them that though we don't know them or don't know,

  69. we confess we don't know even the majority of them or their circumstances,

  70. yet we know that they are known to You and we know that Your interest is in them

  71. and Your concern, Lord, is to be their guide and be their stay,

  72. be their defense and be their shield.

  73. Lord, we thank You today for the way in which Your Word brings us in the Psalms,

  74. so many of our human experiences that we can bring before You in praise and also in prayer.

  75. Lord, we thank You that You have gone before us so as to give us such a manual of praise

  76. and so as to give to us the experiences of Your people and of Your church down through the years

  77. that are expressed through the singing of Your praise.

  78. And we thank You today that whatever depths we may have in the challenges of life

  79. to contend with and against, that we find them in these words of the psalmist,

  80. as we do also the heights of rejoicing and of joy that belongs to Your people also.

  81. Oh, Lord, today we pray that as we come once again to celebrate the coming of Christ into the world

  82. and His achievements in His life and death and resurrection from the dead,

  83. Lord, we pray help us to do so, confident that He now lives forevermore,

  84. that You are alive for the benefit of Your people,

  85. that You minister to them through Your Spirit from Your throne on high.

  86. Remember us, Lord, today as a congregation.

  87. Remember us in all the variety of our need as we present this before You.

  88. We pray, Lord, that You bless each and every home represented here

  89. and those that belong to us not able to be here today.

  90. We pray Your blessing for us, Lord, as we come towards the end of this year in our lives.

  91. We, Lord, reflect upon the many challenges that You have provided for us

  92. in Your providence throughout this year.

  93. But we thank You, Lord, for the provision of Your sustaining grace,

  94. for the many promises that go before us in Your Word

  95. as we come to face these issues of life.

  96. And so we remember today, O Lord, those who come towards the end of this year

  97. with heavy hearts, with hearts that reflect upon the passing of loved ones

  98. who have gone from the scene of time during this year.

  99. Remember them, O Lord, and ask that You would draw near to them.

  100. We pray that You would comfort them, that You would give them the strength that they require

  101. as they reflect upon those that have now gone from their midst.

  102. Lord, we give thanks for many precious memories that You enable us to hold.

  103. We pray that You would grant Your blessing to uplift us

  104. when the gloom settles in upon our lives

  105. and when we know, O Lord, and realize that things are other than we would have chosen

  106. or wanted to be.

  107. Yet, Lord, we pray that You would turn us at all times to Your wisdom

  108. and to the way in which You have ordered and patterned our lives

  109. according to Your knowledge and according to Your wisdom

  110. and according to the rule of Your will.

  111. We pray, too, for those who have lost loved ones in times gone by.

  112. Lord, we know that this time of year is a poignant time for those who reflect upon times of bereavement

  113. and sorrow and loss and for whom these things, Lord, are an ongoing challenge

  114. and an ongoing reality in their lives.

  115. Continue, Lord, to bless us, we pray, with Your truth

  116. and continue to provide for us as we come towards the turn of another year.

  117. We ask, too, that You'd bless those who are ill at this time of our number,

  118. those who are receiving treatment, who are recovering from surgical procedures.

  119. And, Lord, we ask that You'd bless them and bless their families

  120. and bless those who mourn even in these present days.

  121. We commit them to You also and ask that You'd bless them.

  122. Remember our children and our young people.

  123. Grant to them, O Lord, as they hear of the gospel and of the message of Christ

  124. having come into this world as a saviour.

  125. O Lord, we pray that You would sanctify their young lives.

  126. Give them as they hear of the truth of the gospel,

  127. that they may come more and more and day by day

  128. to be dedicated and committed to You

  129. and to Your ways and to walk in Your paths.

  130. We pray for them today.

  131. We pray for all their families and ask that You'd bless them.

  132. We pray that You'd continue to remember us, Lord, as a people

  133. during this time of ongoing pandemic.

  134. Lord, we pray that You would lift this from us.

  135. We pray that You would grant us again to be restored to times

  136. when greater freedom will be ours in terms of being able to engage

  137. in activities that we have not had for many years.

  138. We ask, Lord, that You would bless to us these past two years of difficulty,

  139. of trial and of affliction and of sorrow and loss.

  140. We pray that You would grant, Lord, to go before us

  141. as a new year approaches.

  142. May it be one that is filled with the light of Your countenance,

  143. filled with Your blessing,

  144. filled, O Lord, with those things that would further enrich our lives.

  145. We pray that You would enable us, Lord,

  146. to have once again a communion, the Lord's Supper,

  147. dispensed and partaken of in our midst as a congregation.

  148. Lord, we ask that You would, in Your providence,

  149. enable us to be and enable us to come once again to rejoice

  150. in the provision that You have made

  151. in the remembrance of the Lord's death until He come.

  152. Hear us, Lord, we pray now,

  153. and pardon our many sins

  154. as we confess our sins before You.

  155. We ask it all in Jesus' name.

  156. Amen.

  157. Amen.

  158. Okay, now, children,

  159. I know there's some watching online as well,

  160. but it's good to see children back in the service today

  161. during your time of holiday from Sunday school.

  162. I hope you all had many presents to open.

  163. I know that you probably received things that you'd asked for

  164. for your Christmas.

  165. Maybe you received some things that you didn't ask for as well

  166. and were very different, perhaps,

  167. to those things that you asked for.

  168. But it's a great thing to receive and to exchange gifts,

  169. which we do particularly at this time of year,

  170. at Christmastime.

  171. And if you think about your gifts,

  172. I'm sure that none of you left your gifts unwrapped.

  173. I don't suppose that any of you who received gifts

  174. just said,

  175. well, I'm not going to really bother opening that.

  176. I'll just leave it

  177. and see what happens in the turn of the year.

  178. Every time we get a gift,

  179. especially Christmas gifts,

  180. we're eager to tear the wrapping off

  181. and have a look and see what's inside and enjoy it.

  182. That, of course, is true with the gift of Jesus to us as well.

  183. We don't want to leave Jesus unaccepted.

  184. We don't want to leave him as if he's just an ordinary gift.

  185. He is God's great gift,

  186. the gift of eternal life in Jesus Christ.

  187. Now, I wonder if God spares us to see the next Christmas,

  188. if the gifts that you received this Christmastime

  189. will still be as precious to you

  190. or as much used by you

  191. as they have been in the last few days.

  192. I doubt if any of you left your gifts unused

  193. as well as unopened.

  194. But I wonder how much your interest in these gifts

  195. will continue through this coming year.

  196. If you're like me, I'm very excited,

  197. usually opening a gift,

  198. but in the passing of time,

  199. that interest or that enjoyment tends to decrease.

  200. It tends to wane.

  201. It tends to not be as intense as it is

  202. when you first open the present.

  203. And of course, whatever presents they are,

  204. the contents will inevitably grow old

  205. or you may become tired of them

  206. or you might outgrow them.

  207. Maybe they're no longer relevant as you grow up.

  208. And even if you get the most wonderful

  209. or expensive electronic gifts, for example,

  210. some of you might have received some of those

  211. if you're older,

  212. but even that tends to be outdated after a while.

  213. Mobile phones, whatever else you have,

  214. and electronic gadgets,

  215. they're always replaced by newer versions, aren't they?

  216. So you tend to actually have the older versions.

  217. Maybe it goes on for a while,

  218. but then after a while,

  219. you're tempted to exchange them

  220. and people often exchange them as time goes on.

  221. Well, with the gift of Jesus,

  222. that's never the case.

  223. He never becomes out of date.

  224. He never needs to be replaced by a better model

  225. because you can't get one that's better than Jesus.

  226. And he never grows irrelevant or old

  227. or unsuitable for what you need

  228. at any time in your life.

  229. So when you unwrap God's great present

  230. of eternal life in Jesus Christ,

  231. when you receive Jesus as your Savior,

  232. when you trust in him,

  233. when you believe in him,

  234. he's there not just for life in this world,

  235. he's there forever.

  236. He never needs to be replaced

  237. and you never want to replace him.

  238. You never want to be without him.

  239. That's the great difference

  240. between the gift that God gives us in Jesus

  241. and every other gift,

  242. however expensive,

  243. however much we enjoy it,

  244. the gift of Jesus is special.

  245. Special because there's no one like him.

  246. And today in the sermon,

  247. I'd like you to listen to the sermon as well.

  248. I'll try and make it as easy to follow for you

  249. as well as for the older ones.

  250. And we're looking at the beauty of Jesus,

  251. how beautiful he is and why he's beautiful.

  252. And not only why he's beautiful,

  253. but why he continues to be beautiful

  254. because he never loses his beauty as our Savior.

  255. And so I hope you had a really good,

  256. happy Christmas.

  257. And I hope that whatever you got

  258. for your Christmas gifts

  259. will continue to be special to you.

  260. But do remember the special gift,

  261. the gift of Jesus as our Savior,

  262. that God in his love has provided for us.

  263. And whatever age we're of today,

  264. Jesus is the gift we need,

  265. the gift we must never leave unopened.

  266. So we're going to say the Lord's Prayer together.

  267. Let's pray the Lord's Prayer once again.

  268. Amen.

  269. Our Father, which art in heaven,

  270. hallowed be thy name.

  271. Thy kingdom come.

  272. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  273. Give us this day our daily bread.

  274. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

  275. And lead us not into temptation,

  276. but deliver us from evil.

  277. For thine is the kingdom

  278. and the power and the glory forever.

  279. Amen.

  280. Let's now read God's Word.

  281. And we're going to read today

  282. from the Psalms,

  283. from Psalm 45.

  284. Psalm number 45

  285. in the book of Psalms.

  286. We're going to read down through the Psalm.

  287. It's not very long.

  288. Psalm 45.

  289. Psalm 45.

  290. My heart overflows with a pleasing theme.

  291. I address my verses to the King.

  292. My tongue is like the pen of a ready scribe.

  293. You are the most handsome of the sons of men.

  294. Grace is poured upon your lips.

  295. Therefore God has blessed you forever.

  296. Gird your sword on your thigh, O mighty one,

  297. in your splendor and majesty.

  298. In your majesty ride out victoriously,

  299. for the cause of truth and meekness and righteousness.

  300. Let your right hand teach you awesome deeds.

  301. Your arrows are sharp

  302. in the heart of the king's enemies.

  303. The peoples fall under you.

  304. Your throne, O God, is forever and ever.

  305. The scepter of your kingdom

  306. is a scepter of uprightness.

  307. You have loved righteousness

  308. and hated wickedness.

  309. Therefore God, your God,

  310. has anointed you with the oil of gladness

  311. beyond your companions.

  312. Your robes are all fragrant

  313. with myrrh and aloes and cassia.

  314. From ivory palaces,

  315. stringed instruments make you glad.

  316. Daughters of kings are among your ladies of honor.

  317. At your right hand stands the queen

  318. in gold of Ophir.

  319. Hear, O daughter, and consider

  320. and incline your ear.

  321. Forget your people and your father's house,

  322. and the king will desire your beauty.

  323. Since he is your Lord, bow to him.

  324. The people of Tyre will seek with favor your gifts.

  325. Your favor with gifts.

  326. The richest of the people.

  327. All glorious is the princess in her chamber,

  328. with robes interwoven with gold.

  329. In many colored robes she is led to the king,

  330. with her virgin companions following behind her.

  331. With joy and gladness they are led along

  332. as they enter the palace of the king.

  333. In place of your fathers shall be your sons.

  334. You will make them princes in all the earth.

  335. I will cause your name to be remembered

  336. in all generations.

  337. Therefore nations will praise you

  338. forever and ever.

  339. Amen.

  340. May God bless to us.

  341. Again, a reading of his word.

  342. We're going to praise him once again.

  343. We're singing Psalm 47 this time.

  344. Psalm number 47.

  345. This is in Sing Psalms.

  346. You'll find that on page 62 of your psalm books.

  347. And we'll sing the whole of this version of the psalm.

  348. All nations, clap your hands and shout.

  349. Let joyful cries to God ring out.

  350. How awesome is the Lord most high.

  351. Great king who rules the earth throughout.

  352. He has subdued beneath our feet

  353. the nations who had been our foes.

  354. In blessing Jacob, whom he loved,

  355. a heritage for us he chose.

  356. Psalm 47.

  357. These verses on page 62.

  358. All nations, clap your hands and shout.

  359. Amen.

  360. All nations, clap your hands and shout.

  361. Let joyful cries to God ring out.

  362. How awesome is the Lord most high.

  363. How awesome is the Lord most high.

  364. Great king who rules the earth throughout.

  365. He has subdued beneath our feet.

  366. The nations who have been our foes.

  367. prod stuff.

  368. The people of themern you have to beное so thats simple.

  369. God has been chosen.

  370. God has gone up with chance of joy.

  371. The Lord have made the trumpet sound.

  372. Sing fresh, sing fresh to God's most high.

  373. To all our kings and priests abide.

  374. For God is king of all the earth.

  375. Sing songs of Christ to him alone.

  376. God rules the nations from all night.

  377. He sits upon his holy throne.

  378. The leaders of the nations come.

  379. To yield themselves to Hebrews God.

  380. To him beyond the shields of earth.

  381. Exalted great is the Lord.

  382. Amen.

  383. Amen.

  384. Amen.

  385. Well, let's turn together now to Psalm 45 in the book of Psalms.

  386. Psalm number 45.

  387. I'm going to look today at the first five verses of the Psalm especially.

  388. But focusing really on some of the detail there in regard to the two attributes of Jesus, of Christ as our king.

  389. Firstly, his beauty and then his might.

  390. Psalm 45, as you can see from the title there, is a love song.

  391. But it's not an ordinary love song.

  392. It's actually a wedding song.

  393. It's a song of the relationship between a king and a commoner who's going to become his wife.

  394. And that, of course, has tremendous spiritual significance.

  395. The psalmist actually very liked the Song of Solomon in many of its expressions.

  396. And as you find it quoted in the New Testament, it becomes obvious then especially that this really is a prophecy of the relationship between Jesus and his people.

  397. That he is the one who is referred to here prophetically in anticipation as the warrior king who is altogether beautiful.

  398. He has so many beautiful attributes that this song really describes them in such a way as would pour out.

  399. As it says in the very beginning of the psalm, my heart overflows with a pleasing thing.

  400. My address, my verses to the king.

  401. It's not just that the verses are about the king.

  402. They're addressed to the king as he is in his beauty set out before the psalmist.

  403. And so that's the subject, this king that turns out to be King Jesus.

  404. And there's a wonderful emphasis in itself that you find things written in the Old Testament scriptures like this psalm that came to be fulfilled many, many hundreds of years afterwards.

  405. And not just fulfilled, but fulfilled in specific detail.

  406. A specific detail in such a way that would really just confirm our conviction that this word, this Bible, this word is the word of God.

  407. Inspired by the spirit of God as he moved different authors to write the various parts of it down through the years.

  408. How could you possibly find such exact correspondence between some of the passages in the Old Testament like Isaiah 53 and here in Psalm 45 that came to be so specially and minutely fulfilled in the person and the work of Jesus Christ without knowing that God,

  409. without realizing really that God, or coming to the conclusion that God is really the author of all this from beginning to end.

  410. Well, here is this wonderful wedding song, this marriage song, and this excited eagerness on the part of the psalmist to actually set forth these details.

  411. And when we think of a king marrying a commoner, not just a commoner in the sense of the aristocracy or maybe not royalty,

  412. this girl that he's marrying, this woman is obviously, as it comes to be seen through the psalm, is just an ordinary common person.

  413. She doesn't have any superior status, doesn't have any royalty, she doesn't have even aristocracy about it.

  414. She is like the woman in the Song of Solomon.

  415. She's just an ordinary down-to-earth person.

  416. And when you think about Jesus coming to be spiritually married to his people, to his church,

  417. to those that he saves and brings into this marriage relationship with himself spiritually,

  418. a wonderful thing happens in that union between them.

  419. Because all the debts that we have as sinners, all the debts that we have and what we owe to God,

  420. that we cannot ourselves pay, Jesus takes these.

  421. Jesus pays for these.

  422. All the things that God requires of us, but that we cannot pay, that we cannot do.

  423. The debt in which we placed ourselves by a rebellion against him as human beings,

  424. that's what Jesus has taken.

  425. The king has taken the debt to himself.

  426. And he's happy to pay for it.

  427. That's the meaning of Christmas.

  428. The Son of God coming into the world.

  429. Remember how Paul describes it in his second letter to the Corinthians.

  430. You know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  431. Though he was rich and is rich, he's rich with the riches that is his as God.

  432. Yet for our sakes he became poor, that we through his poverty might become rich.

  433. It doesn't mean he lost the riches that belonged to God, but it means he placed himself in the situation that led to his death on the cross.

  434. And through that work, through that completion, through that accomplishment, we are made rich as we come to be united to him.

  435. And so, it's not just that our debts are passed to him and he pays the price of these debts by his death.

  436. His riches are also passed to us.

  437. This ordinary commoner married to this king can say after the marriage is accomplished,

  438. after the marriage has actually been gone through, all the riches of the king become hers.

  439. They're all passed over to her.

  440. And isn't that one of the most amazing things, one of the most wonderful things to celebrate,

  441. not only at this time of year, but all times.

  442. All the riches that belong to Jesus Christ as the Savior of his people are passed to us as we come to accept him as our Redeemer.

  443. So, let's look at the beauty of Jesus described in these words and also the might of Jesus, the strength of Jesus,

  444. the Jesus who accomplished such great things for his people.

  445. First of all, this beauty, you can see here in verse 2,

  446. You are the most handsome of the sons of men.

  447. Grace is poured upon your lips.

  448. Therefore, God has blessed you forever.

  449. You're not just handsome, but the psalmist is saying,

  450. You are the most handsome of the sons of men.

  451. There is nobody else that has that level of beauty,

  452. that level of spiritual handsomeness that belongs to Jesus.

  453. He is beautiful, first of all, in his person,

  454. because we're talking here about the Son of God.

  455. We're talking about the beauty that belongs to the divine,

  456. the beauty that belongs to God,

  457. the beauty and perfection of God himself as it is in Jesus Christ,

  458. the Son of God.

  459. That's something that did not actually cease to be the case,

  460. the truth about him.

  461. Remember Psalm 27,

  462. where the psalmist is there speaking of the beauty of God as well.

  463. In verse 4,

  464. One thing I have asked of the Lord,

  465. and that will I seek after,

  466. that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,

  467. to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

  468. and to inquire in his temple.

  469. When you think about the beauty of God,

  470. the beauty that's in Jesus as the Son of God,

  471. the divine beauty that is his,

  472. we're talking here of the beauty,

  473. we're thinking here of the beauty of his love,

  474. the beauty of God's love,

  475. the beauty of love that does not love

  476. just in order to get something back in return,

  477. but loves because he is love,

  478. because he loves to love.

  479. The beauty of goodness,

  480. the beauty of perfect wisdom,

  481. the beauty of truth that never becomes other than truth,

  482. constant, eternal truth,

  483. the beauty of Jesus in his person,

  484. in terms of the beauty of God.

  485. There's so much you could amplify in these points,

  486. so much you could elaborate,

  487. because the Bible is full of this beauty of God

  488. and the different ways in which God has made his beauty known to us.

  489. All the attributes that God has are attributes that manifest,

  490. that show out his beauty.

  491. But then remember,

  492. Jesus is human as well,

  493. perfectly human,

  494. completely human.

  495. He took our human nature to himself.

  496. The Son of God joined humanity to his deity

  497. so as to complete in himself

  498. one perfect person,

  499. two natures in one person.

  500. The mystery of Christ as our Savior,

  501. God and man together.

  502. And it's the beauty of a perfect humanity,

  503. a perfect human being.

  504. What is that like?

  505. Well, it's like Jesus,

  506. because that's who he is,

  507. and that's what he is like.

  508. And every time you read about him in the Scriptures,

  509. in terms even of his humanity,

  510. you always stop to admire that humanity.

  511. You just imagine what it must have been like,

  512. even to the extent that we can,

  513. and we can't go into it too far,

  514. but the beauty of a perfect man and a perfect life.

  515. You think of him being brought up as a child,

  516. and then as a little boy,

  517. and then as a young man,

  518. and there's never any flaw in him.

  519. He has the beauty of perfect behavior,

  520. perfect speech.

  521. He has the beauty of that which is perfect

  522. in its humanity,

  523. in every aspect of it.

  524. You can just think as far as you can of his parents.

  525. I wonder how many times they stopped his parents.

  526. That is, his mother Mary,

  527. and his legal father Joseph,

  528. because of course his father is ultimately God,

  529. the Father.

  530. But think about him being brought up by them.

  531. Think about how they never saw anything in them

  532. that was sinful,

  533. that was contrary to what God required.

  534. every single thing he did,

  535. every single word he said,

  536. every aspect of his behavior,

  537. while he learned because he was human,

  538. and while his learning as a human developed,

  539. and all of that is true of him,

  540. just as it is of any human,

  541. yet it is perfect.

  542. He is the perfect human being,

  543. the beauty of perfect humanity,

  544. that which did not exist ever since Adam fell,

  545. ever since we became flawed human beings,

  546. sinful human beings.

  547. But Jesus is the perfect human,

  548. the beauty of a perfect,

  549. perfect humanity,

  550. and the beauty of the perfection of God.

  551. He's perfect.

  552. He's beautiful in his person.

  553. You are the most handsome of the sons of men.

  554. But he's also beautiful.

  555. Secondly, in his speech,

  556. mentioned that a minute ago in terms of his humanity,

  557. but is specified here,

  558. grace is poured upon your lips,

  559. or into your lips.

  560. In other words,

  561. he is endowed with the most perfect speech.

  562. And if you look at the Gospels,

  563. and read the Gospels,

  564. you'll soon be aware of how people were marveling,

  565. and just wondering over the words that came from his lips.

  566. For example, in the Gospel of Luke,

    Luke 4 chapter mention

  567. chapter 4,

  568. you remember that great occasion

  569. where Jesus in the synagogue took the book of Elijah,

  570. the scroll of Elijah was given to him.

  571. He unrolled it and found the place where it was written,

  572. the Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

  573. because he has anointed me

  574. to proclaim good news to the poor,

  575. to speak out good news,

  576. to preach good news to the poor,

  577. the words of his lips.

  578. And so on he went to proclaim

  579. the year of the Lord's favor,

  580. and he rolled up the scroll,

  581. and gave it back to the attendant,

  582. and sat down,

  583. and the eyes of all in the synagogue

  584. were fixed on him.

  585. And he began to say to them,

  586. And today the Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing,

  587. and all spoke well of him,

  588. and marveled.

  589. And then listen to the words of Luke.

  590. Marveled at the gracious words

  591. that were coming from his mouth.

  592. Marveled at the words of grace

  593. that were coming from his mouth.

  594. And they said,

  595. Is not this Joseph's son?

  596. And so on.

  597. But these words especially

  598. fit in with Psalm 45,

  599. don't they?

  600. It's almost as if Luke

  601. at the time was just thinking

  602. of reading Psalm 45.

  603. Grace is poured

  604. into or upon your lips.

  605. You are endowed

  606. with the most amazing speech.

  607. You are endowed

  608. with the most amazing ability

  609. to speak words of grace.

  610. Grace has been poured

  611. into your lips.

  612. And you know,

  613. when you come,

  614. as those of you who know Jesus

  615. as your Savior

  616. know very well,

  617. when he spoke to you

  618. through his word,

  619. when he spoke to you,

  620. when the Spirit of God

  621. took the words of Scripture

  622. and impressed your heart

  623. and mind with them,

  624. as you heard the voice of Jesus say,

  625. Come to me and rest.

  626. You know that these words

  627. were words filled with grace.

  628. Words that were not

  629. of an ordinary type of speech.

  630. They were words

  631. of the Son of God.

  632. Words of the Savior.

  633. Words by which he awoke you

  634. to your sense of need.

  635. Words by which he introduced himself

  636. to you.

  637. As the perfect Savior.

  638. Words that you still remember

  639. and still hear

  640. and still long to hear

  641. is the words of grace.

  642. Words of favor.

  643. Words of blessing.

  644. God endowed him

  645. so that his ministry

  646. would be

  647. a ministry of grace,

  648. a ministry of favor

  649. to lost sinners.

  650. There is a beauty

  651. in all his words.

  652. And of course,

  653. we know that because

  654. he is the Son of God,

  655. because he himself

  656. is behind

  657. the inspiration,

  658. the setting out

  659. of Scripture

  660. as we have it,

  661. Old Testament

  662. as well as New Testament.

  663. It wasn't just

  664. at the beginning

  665. of Matthew's Gospel

  666. or in those times

  667. of the incarnation,

  668. of the coming of Jesus

  669. into the world,

  670. the birth of Jesus.

  671. That's not when Jesus

  672. began to live.

  673. That's not the beginning

  674. of his life.

  675. He didn't have

  676. the beginning of life

  677. ultimately because

  678. he is God.

  679. He has eternal

  680. life as God.

  681. And you see the beauty

  682. in his words,

  683. the beauty

  684. in his promises,

  685. beauty even

  686. in his commands,

  687. beauty in his counsel,

  688. beauty in his comfort,

  689. beauty in his correction

  690. because he is always

  691. about setting us

  692. on the right path,

  693. keeping us

  694. on the right path.

  695. Beauty of words

  696. of peace

  697. that he speaks

  698. into your heart.

  699. How beautiful

  700. are the words

  701. of Jesus

  702. when your heart

  703. needs peace,

  704. when your heart

  705. needs to rest,

  706. when you're faced

  707. with the challenges

  708. of this life,

  709. with the many

  710. different aspects

  711. of affliction

  712. and of grief

  713. and of sorrow

  714. and of change

  715. that you find

  716. in your experience

  717. from day to day,

  718. from year to year.

  719. As you come towards

  720. the end of another year

  721. in which you've seen

  722. changes,

  723. especially if you've

  724. lost loved ones,

  725. if your health

  726. has been an issue,

  727. if your mental health

  728. has been an issue,

  729. if all of these

  730. things and others

  731. you could add to them

  732. have been issues

  733. and challenges for you.

  734. How wonderfully

  735. beautiful are the

  736. words of Jesus

  737. because he addresses

  738. you in these

  739. circumstances

  740. with his perfect

  741. knowledge,

  742. with his concern

  743. to bring his

  744. promises to bear

  745. upon your circumstances,

  746. to impress upon you

  747. and to give you

  748. an even deeper

  749. conviction

  750. that his word

  751. is always true,

  752. his word

  753. is always reliable,

  754. his words

  755. are always beautiful.

  756. the beauty

  757. of Jesus,

  758. beauty in his

  759. person,

  760. beauty in his

  761. speech,

  762. in whatever he

  763. says,

  764. whether it's even

  765. at times to

  766. bring us up

  767. short and

  768. show us how

  769. far short we're

  770. coming of

  771. the standard he

  772. expects and

  773. requires of us.

  774. maybe it's even

  775. today a time of

  776. correction for me

  777. or for you

  778. to set us back

  779. on the right

  780. path,

  781. to refocus our

  782. mind upon

  783. the things that

  784. are of eternal

  785. importance.

  786. Well, that's

  787. beauty as well,

  788. isn't it?

  789. The beauty

  790. of Christ's

  791. words.

  792. But secondly,

  793. along with the

  794. beauty of Jesus,

  795. these words in the

  796. psalm speak of the

  797. might of Jesus.

  798. Jesus,

  799. he's talking here

  800. in verse 3,

  801. gird your sword

  802. on your thigh

  803. and then let

  804. your arrows

  805. that are sharp

  806. pierce the hearts

  807. of the king's

  808. enemies in verse

  809. 5.

  810. So the might of

  811. Jesus, you can

  812. see him described

  813. here as a

  814. warrior king,

  815. somebody who is

  816. constantly equipped

  817. for battle.

  818. And of course,

  819. when the Bible

  820. speaks about battle

  821. in this way,

  822. it's not talking

  823. about fighting

  824. literally.

  825. A lot of

  826. people make

  827. that mistake

  828. that we as

  829. Christians really

  830. just set out

  831. the Bible as

  832. containing all

  833. these terms of

  834. violence, that

  835. the Bible is

  836. responsible for

  837. much of the

  838. violence in the

  839. world, for the

  840. conflict between

  841. different views

  842. that human beings

  843. have.

  844. Well, of course,

  845. Christ in his

  846. might and in

  847. these terms that

  848. are used here,

  849. they're used

  850. especially in a

  851. spiritual meaning.

  852. And it's been

  853. the case, I

  854. know very well,

  855. and you know

  856. very well that

  857. down through

  858. history, at

  859. certain times

  860. Christians have

  861. taken up the

  862. sword as if we

  863. present the

  864. gospel accompanied

  865. by violent

  866. means in order to

  867. persuade people to

  868. accept it.

  869. That's not what

  870. Christianity is

  871. about.

  872. That's a

  873. distortion of

  874. Christianity.

  875. That's a

  876. distortion of the

  877. values of Christ.

  878. Because when Christ

  879. goes out to

  880. conquer, he

  881. goes out to

  882. attack our

  883. hearts and our

  884. minds by ways

  885. of his truth.

  886. He brings us,

  887. as it says there,

  888. into subjection to

  889. himself.

  890. In verse 5,

  891. your arrows are

  892. sharp in the

  893. hearts of the

  894. king's enemies,

  895. the people fall

  896. in subjection

  897. under you.

  898. The subjection

  899. that is talking

  900. here of Jesus

  901. is the subjection

  902. of your heart

  903. and your mind

  904. to him, to be

  905. ruled by him, to

  906. be ruled gladly

  907. and willingly by

  908. him.

  909. It's not a

  910. forced subjection,

  911. it's not something

  912. that's done

  913. violently.

  914. That's why we

  915. value our

  916. freedom of

  917. religion, among

  918. many other

  919. freedoms like

  920. freedom of

  921. speech, freedom

  922. of thought, freedom

  923. of religion.

  924. We don't force

  925. people into

  926. acceptance of

  927. Christianity or

  928. of Christ.

  929. We seek to

  930. persuade them.

  931. We seek to

  932. persuade them by

  933. the beauty of

  934. Christ, by

  935. emphasizing the

  936. beauty of

  937. Christ, by

  938. emphasizing his

  939. beauty in his

  940. person and in

  941. his words and in

  942. everything else to

  943. do with him so

  944. that they be

  945. persuaded to

  946. lay down that

  947. rebellion against

  948. him, the

  949. spiritual rebellion

  950. that is ours by

  951. nature and come

  952. and yield to his

  953. authority.

  954. And that's our

  955. basis of

  956. confidence in the

  957. gospel, isn't

  958. it?

  959. That this

  960. gospel, this

  961. good news of

  962. life, of

  963. eternal life in

  964. Jesus Christ,

  965. that is not

  966. dependent ultimately

  967. on our ability,

  968. whatever ability

  969. we have or

  970. don't have to

  971. speak or to

  972. preach or to

  973. witness or to

  974. testify for him,

  975. the success of

  976. the gospel does

  977. not rest with

  978. that.

  979. It rests with

  980. the power, the

  981. might of Jesus

  982. himself.

  983. It's in the very

  984. nature of the

  985. word of Christ

  986. that he uses in

  987. order to persuade

  988. us to come to

  989. be in subjection to

  990. him, to accept

  991. his truth, to

  992. accept him as

  993. our Lord, accept

  994. him as our

  995. Savior, accept

  996. him as the King

  997. and Lord of all

  998. the earth.

  999. It's interesting,

  1000. isn't it, that

  1001. Psalm 45

  1002. follows on from

  1003. Psalm 44.

  1004. I know you're

  1005. saying, well,

  1006. that's logical,

  1007. 45 follows 44

  1008. in terms of

  1009. numerical sequence,

  1010. but what I mean

  1011. is in terms of

  1012. the content of

  1013. Psalm 45, it's

  1014. deliberately placed

  1015. beside Psalm 44

  1016. because Psalm 44

  1017. is by and large

  1018. a psalm of

  1019. defeat, a psalm

  1020. of lament, a

  1021. psalm of seeking

  1022. to have God

  1023. refocus them and

  1024. re-guide them and

  1025. bring them back to

  1026. know himself.

  1027. And there's his

  1028. appeal there in

  1029. verse 23, Psalm

  1030. 44, awake, why

  1031. are you sleeping,

  1032. O Lord?

  1033. Arouse yourself, do

  1034. not reject us

  1035. forever.

  1036. Why do you hide

  1037. your face?

  1038. Why do you forget

  1039. our affliction and

  1040. oppression?

  1041. Our soul is bowed

  1042. down to the dust,

  1043. our belly clings to

  1044. the ground.

  1045. Rise up, come to

  1046. our help, redeem

1047. us for the sake of

  1048. your steadfast love.

  1049. What is the next

  1050. portion of the

  1051. Psalms?

  1052. My heart overflows

  1053. with a pleasing

  1054. thing.

  1055. I address my

  1056. verses to the

  1057. king, and then he

  1058. describes his

  1059. beauty.

  1060. You see, the

  1061. beauty of Jesus

  1062. and the might of

  1063. Jesus is really

  1064. the answer to our

  1065. human problem.

  1066. It's the answer

  1067. to, and I'm using

  1068. the term problem

  1069. in the singular

  1070. because the human

  1071. problem includes all

  1072. our problems.

  1073. All our concerns

  1074. and all our wants.

  1075. But God's answer

1076. to that is in the

  1077. beauty and in the

  1078. might of Jesus,

  1079. in his suitability

  1080. and in his

  1081. sufficiency to

  1082. actually deal with

  1083. our problems, and

  1084. to deal especially

  1085. with the problem of

  1086. our sin, which is

  1087. the root of all

  1088. other problems.

  1089. Our sin, our

  1090. rebellion, our

  1091. broken relationship

  1092. with God, and

  1093. into that comes

  1094. Jesus Christ, the

  1095. beauty and the

  1096. might that is

  1097. his.

  1098. And the might of

  1099. Jesus, you see, the

  1100. might of Jesus has

  1101. seen that he never

  1102. loses in his

  1103. campaign for the

  1104. truth.

  1105. Christ has never

  1106. lost a battle.

  1107. The church has

  1108. lost many battles,

  1109. but in the overall

  1110. scheme of things,

  1111. the Lord has never

  1112. lost a battle.

  1113. You find it

  1114. described in the

  1115. Gospels, especially

  1116. as the battle

  1117. between good and

  1118. evil, the battle

  1119. between Jesus, the

  1120. head of his people,

  1121. and the likes of

1122. Satan, who is at the

  1123. head of this great

  1124. campaign against

  1125. Jesus and against

  1126. his truth and

  1127. against the light.

  1128. And every time you

  1129. find Jesus confronted

  1130. by the devil, whether

  1131. it's in the

  1132. wilderness, in

  1133. Matthew chapter 4,

    Matthew 4 chapter mention

  1134. or Luke's description

  1135. of it, or Mark's,

  1136. you'll always find that

  1137. the ultimate victory

  1138. is with Jesus.

  1139. He never loses a

  1140. battle, nor will he

  1141. ever.

  1142. And you know, that's

  1143. some of the most

  1144. comforting thoughts

  1145. that you can have.

  1146. Some of the most

  1147. comforting truth that

  1148. comes from the

1149. Bible to you and to

1150. me today is that in

  1151. all your battles, in

  1152. all your struggles, in

  1153. all the things that

  1154. you experience in this

  1155. life, where you know

  1156. failure, where I know

  1157. failure, when your

  1158. trust is in Jesus,

  1159. ultimately, in the

  1160. final analysis, you're

1161. never on the side of

  1162. failure.

  1163. You're always on the

  1164. side of victory,

  1165. because this is your

  1166. king.

  1167. This is who your

  1168. king is.

  1169. One who never loses

  1170. in his great campaign

  1171. that he heads.

  1172. You know, even

  1173. coming to the

  1174. description in the

  1175. Gospels of his

  1176. death on the cross,

1177. and all that led up

  1178. to his trial,

  1179. which was a sham,

  1180. really, of a trial,

1181. and then his being led

  1182. out to be crucified,

  1183. and his death that

  1184. actually took place on

  1185. the cross.

  1186. Looking at it

  1187. outwardly, and

  1188. probably the devil was

  1189. of this opinion.

  1190. Looks like defeat,

  1191. doesn't it?

  1192. And you find these

  1193. disconsolate disciples

  1194. who had been as

  1195. disciples during these

  1196. years with him, and

  1197. here they are, and

  1198. they're disconsolate.

  1199. They haven't understood,

  1200. of course, at that

  1201. stage, the meaning of

  1202. the cross, and

  1203. especially before the

  1204. resurrection took place,

  1205. you'll find, as in

  1206. Luke 24, these

  1207. disconsolate, downcast

  1208. disciples walking

  1209. together and reflecting

  1210. on what's happened.

  1211. We thought this was

  1212. he who would redeem

  1213. Israel, and where is

  1214. he?

  1215. He's in the grave.

  1216. But then someone

  1217. came and joined

  1218. their company.

  1219. Someone no less

  1220. than Jesus himself.

  1221. And as he revealed

1222. to them who he was,

  1223. that he was indeed

  1224. Christ, risen from

  1225. the dead, as they

  1226. then reflected on him

  1227. as he eventually

  1228. disappeared from sight,

  1229. and went out of

  1230. their company.

  1231. Did not our heart

  1232. burn within us

  1233. while he explained

  1234. to us the

  1235. scriptures?

  1236. He opened the

  1237. scriptures.

  1238. He opened their

  1239. minds to understand

  1240. the scriptures, the

  1241. beauty of his speech,

  1242. the beauty of his

  1243. words, the beauty of

  1244. his person, and they

  1245. realized this is who

  1246. he is.

  1247. He's risen from the

  1248. dead.

  1249. He's not lost the

  1250. battle.

  1251. He's actually the

  1252. victor.

  1253. He's conquered

  1254. death.

  1255. He's beaten sin.

  1256. He's overcome all

  1257. of that.

  1258. And so we overcome

  1259. with him.

1260. And by him and by

  1261. being joined with

  1262. him, we come

  1263. indeed to share in

  1264. that victory that is

  1265. his.

1266. See the way in which

  1267. he appeals here,

  1268. verse 3,

  1269. gird your sword on

  1270. your thigh, almighty

  1271. one in your splendor

  1272. and majesty.

  1273. And then think about

  1274. the difference between

1275. a sword used in an

  1276. actual battle

  1277. situation and the

  1278. sword that you find

  1279. in a ceremonial

  1280. situation.

  1281. Well, the sword that

  1282. Jesus uses,

  1283. spiritually of course,

  1284. again, is not a

  1285. ceremonial sword.

  1286. It's one by which

  1287. he conquers and goes

  1288. out and brings

  1289. people into subjection

  1290. to himself.

  1291. The sword of his

  1292. truth, the sword of

  1293. the Spirit, the Word

  1294. of God.

1295. And his cause is the

  1296. most worthy of all.

  1297. I'll finish with this.

  1298. You know that in

  1299. actual battle

  1300. situations, it's

  1301. almost always the

  1302. case that each

  1303. regiment has their

  1304. own colors, the

  1305. ensign or the flag,

  1306. you might call it.

  1307. It's a standard.

  1308. It's an ensign.

  1309. It's called the

  1310. regimental colors.

  1311. You'll find these

  1312. used on different

  1313. parades, even formal

  1314. parades.

  1315. But in an actual

  1316. battle situation,

  1317. almost always the

  1318. colors, the ensign,

  1319. goes before the

  1320. troops into battle.

  1321. They take their

  1322. inspiration from the

  1323. colors of the

  1324. regiment.

  1325. And they follow

  1326. whoever is carrying

  1327. the regimental colors

  1328. into battle.

  1329. They follow on from

  1330. that.

  1331. They take their

  1332. inspiration from that.

  1333. That's what gives

  1334. them, in a sense,

  1335. the courage to follow

  1336. it into battle, to

  1337. engage on behalf of

  1338. the cause that

  1339. they're fighting

  1340. for.

  1341. Well, the regimental

  1342. colors of Jesus are

  1343. inscribed with three

  1344. great words.

  1345. This is the regimental

  1346. motto, if you like.

1347. You'll find it in the

  1348. psalm, in verse 4,

  1349. and your majesty, ride

  1350. out victoriously.

  1351. And here are the

  1352. battle colors.

  1353. Here is the ensign.

  1354. Here's the standard.

  1355. Here's the regimental

  1356. colors for meekness, for

1357. the cause of truth and

  1358. meekness and

  1359. righteousness.

  1360. These are the great

  1361. words inscribed,

  1362. embroidered, if you

  1363. like, heavily onto this

  1364. standard, the ensign of

  1365. Jesus.

1366. And as you see Jesus

  1367. going before His people,

1368. so this ensign gives you

  1369. the encouragement and

  1370. the confidence to follow

  1371. Him and the inspiration

  1372. to follow Him, because

  1373. that's really a description

  1374. ultimately of Himself,

  1375. truth and meekness and

  1376. righteousness.

1377. How do we face the

  1378. assault made upon the

  1379. cause of Christ by

  1380. falseness, by lies, by

  1381. false teaching, by

  1382. distortions of the

  1383. gospel?

1384. How do we counteract the

  1385. pride, the brashness, the

  1386. arrogance of human

1387. antagonism to God and to

  1388. His gospel?

1389. How do you react to the

  1390. sin, the immorality that

1391. is in your own heart and

1392. also in the world, as you

1393. see the word living without

  1394. God?

  1395. You follow the

  1396. ensign.

  1397. You take your inspiration

  1398. from Jesus Himself, this

  1399. wonderful, beautiful, mighty

  1400. King.

1401. And for the sake of meekness

  1402. holiness and truth and

  1403. righteousness, you follow

  1404. the colors.

1405. You engage with all the

  1406. disanimity with Christ on

1407. His behalf and as His

  1408. people.

  1409. And that's what the

1410. psalm sets out for us.

1411. The beauty of Jesus and the

1412. might of Jesus, His cause is

1413. the most worthy of all.

1414. And His cause is a cause that

1415. we take up when we follow

  1416. Him.

1417. And just as He heads up His

1418. people for the cause of

  1419. truth and meekness and

  1420. righteousness, so that's

1421. what we take to ourselves.

1422. And for truth and meekness

  1423. and righteousness, these

  1424. great spiritual qualities and

  1425. moral qualities, we follow

  1426. Him.

1427. And we follow Him into

  1428. engagement and battle with

1429. everything that is at enmity

  1430. with Himself.

  1431. and with His people.

1432. But let me finish with a

  1433. question.

  1434. Who is your King?

  1435. Whose colors are you

  1436. following?

  1437. What's inscribed on the

  1438. ensign of your life?

1439. Is Jesus today your great

  1440. King?

1441. Is His cause the most worthy

1442. and important cause for you

  1443. to follow?

1444. Have you truly entered into

1445. the regiment of Christ, the

1446. regiment of the saved, who

  1447. has our allegiance today?

  1448. Christmas time.

  1449. God's name.

1450. The word became flesh and

  1451. dwelt among us.

1452. We beheld His glory, glory as

1453. of the only begotten of the

1454. Father, full of grace and

  1455. truth.

  1456. That's our King.

  1457. He's our King.

1458. And we are to live as His

  1459. people.

1460. May God bless these thoughts on

  1461. His word to us.

1462. We're going to conclude our

1463. service just now singing in

  1464. Psalm 24.

1465. Psalm 24 in the Scottish

1466. Psalter version on page 230.

  1467. singing verses 7 to 10.

1468. Ye gates lift up your heads

  1469. on high.

1470. Ye doors that last for

  1471. a be lifted up.

1472. That so the King of glory

  1473. enter me.

1474. But who of glory is the

  1475. King?

1476. The mighty Lord is this.

1477. Even that same Lord that

1478. great in might and strong

  1479. in battle is.

1480. And as we read and sing

  1481. these verses, let's think

1482. of them as the doors of

1483. our heart being opened up.

1484. The gates of our heart to

  1485. receive and to admit.

1486. Once again the King as we

  1487. follow Him.

1488. So these verses, ye gates

1489. lift up your heads on high.

1490. Ye gates lift up your heads

  1491. on high.

1492. In yours and us all

  1493. name.

1494. Ye gates lift up that

1495. saw the King of glory

  1496. enter me.

1497. But who of glory is the

  1498. King?

1499. The mighty Lord is this.

1500. He gates lift up your head,

1501. in the Lord that great in might

1502. and strong in battle is.

1503. In the Lord that great in might

1504. and strong in battle is.

1505. He lifted up your heads, ye doors,

1506. He lifted up your heads, ye doors,

1507. Lord, start to last for aid.

1508. He lifted up your head, ye doors, and

1509. he lifted up your head, ye doors, and

1510. he lifted up your head, ye doors, and

1511. the King of glory enter me.

  1512. of glory

  1513. enter me.

  1514. But

  1515. who is he

  1516. that is

  1517. the king,

  1518. the king of

  1519. glory who

  1520. is this?

  1521. The Lord

  1522. of hosts

  1523. and round the

  1524. king, the king

  1525. of glory

  1526. is.

  1527. The Lord

  1528. of hosts and

  1529. round the

  1530. king, the king

  1531. of glory

  1532. is.

  1533. Alleluia!

  1534. Alleluia!

  1535. Alleluia!

  1536. Alleluia!

  1537. Alleluia!

  1538. Alleluia!

  1539. Alleluia!

  1540. Alleluia!

  1541. Alleluia!

  1542. Alleluia!

  1543. Alleluia!

  1544. Alleluia!

  1545. Alleluia!

  1546. Alleluia!

  1547. Alleluia!

1548. Now may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,

1549. the love of God the Father,

1550. and the communion of the Holy Spirit

1551. be with you now and evermore.

  1552. Amen.

  1553. Amen.
