  1. Let us begin our worship of God. Let us sing to him from Psalm 61 of the Sing Psalms.

  2. Psalm 61, Sing Psalms version, you find that on page 78 of the Blue Book.

  3. And we'll sing from verses 1 down to verse Mark 5.

  4. O hear my urgent cry, my God, and listen to my plea.

  5. From earth's remotest bounds I call when my heart faints in me.

  6. O God, conduct me to the rock that's higher far than I.

  7. For you are my refuge from the foe, my tower of strength on high.

  8. O let me dwell within your tent, forever there to live.

  9. O for the shelter of your wings, the refuge which they give.

  10. For you have heard my vows, O God, and you have given me the heritage of those who fear your name continually.

  11. That psalm that there where David speaks and comes to God in his weaknesses, in his cry.

  12. Desiring to come and be close to God, conduct me to the rock.

  13. And it says that he has a desire in verse 8, at the conclusion of the psalm, to come and praise his name.

  14. We won't sing that verse, but that is what we do when we gather.

  15. So we'll sing this psalm, verses 1 down to verse Mark 5.

  16. The tune is, Whether be O hear my urgent cry, my God.

  17. O hear my urgent cry, my God.

  18. O hear my urgent cry, my God.

  19. And listen to my fear.

  20. From the earth's remote, there's arms I call, where my heart faints in me.

  21. O God, come and grant me to the rock.

  22. As I am found an eye.

  23. For you, my refuge from the poor, my child of strength for life.

  24. O let ye dwell within your care, forever dare to live.

  25. O Lord, the children of your wings, the left you rest in me.

  26. What you have heard, my love so long.

  27. And you have given me.

  28. The heaven of those who fear your name, on January.

  29. So now we'll say a short prayer before we do our children's talk and before they go into Sunday school.

  30. So let us pray together.

  31. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you again for this new day that you have given to us.

  32. And how gracious you are to us to give us all things that are good.

  33. Help us, Lord, that we would be thankful to you for all that you have done.

  34. And we'll be thankful for everyone that you have put around us.

  35. We thank you for our parents.

  36. We thank you for brothers or sisters.

  37. We thank you for grannies and grandpas.

  38. We thank you, Lord, for everyone that is here.

  39. And Lord, we thank you that you have given us Bibles to read.

  40. And pray that we would understand what the Bible says to us.

  41. That we would learn about Jesus.

  42. And all that Jesus has done for us.

  43. And all that Jesus continues to do for us.

  44. So, Lord, we pray for our understanding of who you are.

  45. We pray for the children as they gather next door.

  46. We pray for the teachers as they teach them truths of the Bible.

  47. Lord, we pray for the children as they do these things.

  48. And we pray that questions that they have will be answered.

  49. And that they would come to know who Jesus Christ is.

  50. And that he is a Savior that died on the cross for them.

  51. So that we may live and have confidence in the life that we live.

  52. So we ask that you be with us.

  53. Forgive us our sins, we pray.

  54. All this we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Savior.

  55. Amen.

  56. Okay, boys and girls.

  57. Just want to say a short word to you before you go into Sunday school.

  58. I think today you're going to be learning about the apostles and the disciples.

  59. And how they spoke about Jesus.

  60. And who he was.

  61. And how they were so excited to tell others about Jesus.

  62. So you, boys and girls, are going to be learning about the disciples.

  63. And we, the older ones, are going to look at Psalm 40.

  64. And that is also a psalm that tells of a person that was not ashamed to speak about Jesus.

  65. And all that he had done for him.

  66. And when they're speaking because they're so excited and so happy.

  67. Something good has happened to them.

  68. Now, when something good happens to you.

  69. If you're out and about and then you come home.

  70. You want to tell your parents.

  71. You know, what happened to you?

  72. Mom, Dad, you'll never guess what happened when I was out.

  73. So and so happened.

  74. Or I saw so and so.

  75. Or something happened that was so exciting.

  76. And you know, I was in Edinburgh a couple of weeks ago.

  77. And I was just in Tesco.

  78. Just going to buy something.

  79. And there were two people talking beside me.

  80. And they were so excited about what they were speaking about.

  81. Me and the person that was there to me.

  82. We didn't know what they were talking about.

  83. But we both sort of turned and looked at them.

  84. Because of the way they spoke to each other.

  85. They were so excited.

  86. And they were saying, yes, it's so great.

  87. And I was thinking, well, I was wondering what they were talking about.

  88. And so was the lady that was serving me.

  89. She asked them, what are you talking about?

  90. And it turned out they were talking about a caramel Kit Kat.

  91. This new caramel Kit Kat.

  92. Other chocolates are available.

  93. I don't want to advertise that.

  94. But they were so passionate about this new thing that had come out.

  95. It was a new version.

  96. And, you know, I just thought, isn't it amazing that we were just watching and seeing them talking.

  97. And how they had this connection with one another about what was so good.

  98. And they were telling each other about what this was so great.

  99. And this is what the apostles were doing and the disciples were doing.

  100. Jesus had done something that was so great.

  101. The greatest thing in the world.

  102. He had died and he had risen.

  103. And they wanted to tell everyone.

  104. But some people didn't like it.

  105. Because it was so exciting.

  106. And because everyone was looking and wondering, what are these disciples talking about?

  107. It was like me when I was looking and saying, something exciting is happening.

  108. I don't know what it is.

  109. But other people, they weren't happy.

  110. Because everyone was listening to the disciples.

  111. And telling them about Jesus.

  112. And so they sought to put them to jail.

  113. But one thing is very important that they did.

  114. They said that they must talk about God.

  115. And they must do what God has told them to do.

  116. And you know what, boys and girls?

  117. We have the greatest news in the world in our Bibles.

  118. And that's what it's called.

  119. It's called the good news.

  120. It's called the gospel.

  121. The good news.

  122. Because we have good news, like the disciples did, about Jesus.

  123. And I hope and pray that we will be able to speak to each other and tell each other

  124. about what Jesus has done for me.

  125. And even the older ones.

  126. And that excitement about what Jesus has done for me.

  127. And that others may see and wonder at what this man has done and can do for them.

  128. I wanted to try this new Kit Kat.

  129. I still haven't.

  130. I thought I didn't need it.

  131. But we all need Jesus.

  132. And I pray that we would all find Jesus and know him.

  133. So I pray that you'd be blessed in your time together as you go through to Sunday school.

  134. And as you go through to Sunday school, all the kids that are, all the younger ones that are upstairs,

  135. can you come down and go out this door here beside Roddy?

  136. The deacons, the men on the door will help you and direct you.

  137. Just because it's very windy at the front, you can all come down, come down the sides,

  138. and then come out this door here.

  139. So you don't get blown away.

  140. We just want to keep you safe.

  141. Okay.

  142. So thank you for listening to me.

  143. We'll continue in our praise by singing in Psalm 119 of the Scottish Psalter.

  144. Psalm 119 in the Scottish Psalter.

  145. That's on page 404 of the Blue Book.

  146. We'll sing that section from verse 49 down to 56.

  147. Remember, Lord, thy gracious word, thou to thy servants speak,

  148. which for a ground of my sure hope thou caused me to take.

  149. This word of thine my comfort is in mine affliction,

  150. for in my straits I am revived.

  151. By this thy word alone.

  152. The psalmist relies on the word of God

  153. and his love for the word of God

  154. and his value of the word of God

  155. comes through in this psalm as we sing it.

  156. And it is something that we as believers in the Lord

  157. are likened to,

  158. thank him for the words that he has given to us.

  159. So we'll sing this psalm to God's praise,

  160. to the tune St. Andrew.

  161. Remember, Lord, thy gracious word.

  162. We stand to sing.

  163. Amen.

  164. Amen.

  165. Amen.

  166. Remember, Lord, thy gracious word.

  167. How do thy servants speak?

  168. Which for a ground of my sure hope thou cost me to take?

  169. This warm, Lord, thy might come for this,

  170. in my affection.

  171. For in my chains I am revived.

  172. By this thy heart alone.

  173. The man whose heart will drive our star,

  174. If he need be right,

  175. Yet on thy ship from hand-bent,

  176. I have not turned aside.

  177. Thy judgment's right,

  178. O Lord, thy trust, O Lord,

  179. O Lord,

  180. which thou of hope for him.

  181. I bid, ye men, but run myself,

  182. By death, come for did I.

  183. O Lord, my God, my God, my God, my God,

  184. I bid, ye men, but run myself,

  185. By death, come for did I.

  186. Come for did I.

  187. Or are to hold on me because

  188. He'll make thy law forsake.

  189. How in my hearts of peril will be.

  190. Thy laws my song to lead.

  191. Thy name by night, Lord, I divine, and I have yet I own.

  192. And this high land equals high Lord, I get done soon in all.

  193. If we can turn to our Bibles now and take our first reading.

  194. We've got two readings this morning.

  195. Our first reading will be from Paul's letter to Ephesians.

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  196. Chapter 2.

  197. We'll read a short section there and then we'll read from Psalm 40 afterwards.

  198. Paul's letter to the Ephesians, chapter 2, and we'll read from the beginning.

    Ephesians 2 chapter mention

  199. Let us hear the word of God.

  200. And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked,

  201. following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air,

  202. the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience,

  203. among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh,

  204. carrying out the desires of the body and the mind,

  205. and were by nature children of wrath like the rest of mankind.

  206. But God, being rich in mercy because of the great love with which he loved us,

  207. even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.

  208. By grace you have been saved.

  209. And raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,

  210. so that in the coming ages he might show what is the immeasurable riches of his grace

  211. and kindness towards us in Christ Jesus.

  212. For by grace you have been saved through faith.

  213. And this is not your own doing.

  214. It is the gift of God,

  215. not a result of works so that no one may boast.

  216. For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works,

  217. which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

  218. Amen.

  219. May we turn also to Psalm 40, the book of Psalms.

  220. We'll look at Psalm 40 today.

  221. So Psalm 40, we'll read from the beginning.

  222. I waited patiently for the Lord.

  223. He inclined to me and heard my cry.

  224. He drew me up from the pit of destruction,

  225. out of the miry bog,

  226. and set my feet upon a rock,

  227. making my steps secure.

  228. He put a new song in my mouth,

  229. a song of praise to our God.

  230. Many will see and fear,

  231. and put their trust in the Lord.

  232. Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust,

  233. who does not turn to the proud,

  234. or to those who go astray after a lie.

  235. You have multiplied, O Lord my God,

  236. your wondrous deeds,

  237. and your thoughts towards us.

  238. None can compare with you.

  239. I will proclaim and tell of them,

  240. yet they are more than can be told.

  241. Amen.

  242. Amen.

  243. May the reading of God's word

  244. be a blessing to each and every one of us.

  245. May we turn to God in prayer

  246. as we prepare our hearts.

  247. Our Heavenly Father,

  248. we come to you again

  249. as thinking of ourselves as little children.

  250. We think we know the way,

  251. but often we need to be directed.

  252. We need to be shown,

  253. we need to be corrected.

  254. And Lord, we come to you,

  255. acknowledging this,

  256. that we are in need of direction.

  257. We are weak as we come before you,

  258. for you are mightier than we are.

  259. And Lord,

  260. give us reverence in our hearts

  261. as we come to you in prayer.

  262. Each of us in our own hearts,

  263. the prayers that are silent

  264. and the prayers that are all.

  265. Lord,

  266. give us reverence

  267. as we behold your beauty.

  268. May it shine forth from your word today

  269. as we consider it.

  270. Give us ears of understanding.

  271. Unblock our eyes to see

  272. the beauties of Christ Jesus

  273. and all that he has done for us

  274. and the security we can have in him

  275. if only we trust in him.

  276. Lord, that all of us who are gathered here

  277. would exercise our trust and faith

  278. in the Lord Jesus Christ,

  279. for in whom there is no other.

  280. There is no other to whom we can compare.

  281. There is no other to whom we can trust.

  282. But you, O God.

  283. We thank you for each one that is gathered here.

  284. And we pray that your word would speak

  285. a word in season to the soul and hearts of each.

  286. We pray for those who are online

  287. and we are mindful of them.

  288. We are thankful for this provision that we have,

  289. especially this day.

  290. Lord, we pray that you would protect us

  291. by the power of the nature that is around us.

  292. And through this,

  293. we see the power of you, O God,

  294. and how weak we are.

  295. Lord, be gracious to us

  296. and merciful.

  297. Lord, be gracious to us.

  298. Protect us, O Lord,

  299. from the wrath that is to come.

  300. And we find that protection in Christ Jesus.

  301. Is it not true that we have the greatest news

  302. in the world for the world?

  303. We have the greatest news in Christ Jesus

  304. that he is the one that will protect us

  305. from the wrath that is to come,

  306. that is deserving of us for our sins.

  307. For we have admitted that we have followed

  308. the passions of our flesh

  309. and the desires of our body.

  310. Lord, we confess our sins to you today.

  311. We confess them because you are one

  312. that can forgive them.

  313. And you are the only forgiver of sins.

  314. You are the great high priest

  315. that takes them

  316. and intercedes for us on our behalf.

  317. Lord, let each of us

  318. put our trust in you this day.

  319. We pray for our nation.

  320. We pray for those who govern over us

  321. that you would give them your wisdom.

  322. And Lord, direct us in your ways

  323. and not the ways of our flesh,

  324. the passions of our flesh.

  325. Lord, we pray for laws and legislations

  326. that have been passed,

  327. that they would be overturned.

  328. And that we would return

  329. to being guided by your word

  330. and the wisdom of it.

  331. Lord, we pray for our nation

  332. and the efforts that are made

  333. across it this day,

  334. your day,

  335. the day that you rose from the dead.

  336. that that would be proclaimed

  337. to the people.

  338. Jesus Christ has overcome death.

  339. And so you can overcome death too

  340. if you would only trust in him.

  341. Lord, we pray

  342. that you would be amongst us.

  343. And in every effort that is made,

  344. we acknowledge that

  345. if your spirit does not go with us,

  346. we can do no good of ourselves.

  347. So we pray

  348. that your spirit would bless

  349. our gathering here

  350. and enlighten our minds

  351. and pray that your spirit would go

  352. amongst our island and our nation

  353. and everywhere where the gospel is preached.

  354. Lord, we know that

  355. we preach the gospel

  356. poorly and many times.

  357. But it is not how we preach it.

  358. It is how you apply it

  359. to believers' hearts.

  360. So Lord, be effective

  361. to those that mourn.

  362. Lord, encourage them

  363. and comfort them.

  364. There are many mourning

  365. in our community,

  366. in our island and our nation.

  367. Lord, we ask that you would

  368. be with them

  369. to many to name.

  370. Many have lost mothers.

  371. Some have lost fathers.

  372. Some have lost grandparents

  373. and grandmothers.

  374. Brothers and sisters,

  375. aunties and uncles.

  376. And we pray

  377. for those who have lost

  378. sons and daughters,

  379. that you would comfort them

  380. in the difficulties

  381. that they face

  382. and the questions

  383. which they have.

  384. Lord,

  385. wrap your loved arms

  386. around them

  387. and be a protector

  388. to them

  389. in these days

  390. that will be difficult

  391. and the weeks

  392. and months

  393. that lie ahead for them.

  394. we pray

  395. that you would be

  396. with them

  397. in all things.

  398. We pray

  399. for our young

  400. and we pray

  401. for the young

  402. that gather next door

  403. that they would see

  404. and know

  405. the riches

  406. of Jesus Christ

  407. and come

  408. to trust in him.

  409. We pray

  410. for each of us

  411. who are believers here

  412. that you would

  413. encourage us

  414. in your way

  415. and give us

  416. strength

  417. in every step

  418. that we take.

  419. We pray

  420. for the unconverted

  421. that you would

  422. speak with them

  423. and that you would

  424. awaken their conscience

  425. to be turned to God.

  426. See the plight

  427. of their situation

  428. in which they lie

  429. without Christ

  430. and turn them

  431. to you in Christ

  432. to rely upon

  433. the one

  434. who can forgive

  435. and the one

  436. who can free them

  437. from the weight

  438. of sin

  439. that will burden them.

  440. Lord, we pray

  441. be over us

  442. as we look at your word

  443. guide our minds

  444. protect our minds

  445. from the thoughts

  446. that are

  447. not a building

  448. give us a focus

  449. on your word

  450. a focus on Christ

  451. a focus on the wonders

  452. that you have done

  453. for us.

  454. Be with us

  455. we pray

  456. may your spirit

  457. accompany us

  458. and bless

  459. your word

  460. as it is read

  461. and preached

  462. all this we ask

  463. in the name

  464. of your son

  465. and our saviour

  466. the Lord

  467. Jesus Christ

  468. Amen.

  469. May we continue

  470. in our praise

  471. to God

  472. in Psalm

  473. 26

  474. of the Sing Psalms

  475. Psalm 26

  476. of the Sing Psalms

  477. you'll find that

  478. on page 30

  479. of the Blue Book

  480. and we'll sing

  481. from one

  482. down to

  483. verse mark

  484. eight

  485. Declare me

  486. innocent

  487. O Lord

  488. I've walked

  489. in blameless ways

  490. and I have trusted

  491. in the Lord

  492. not wavering

  493. all my days

  494. Test me

  495. O Lord

  496. and try my heart

  497. my thoughts

  498. survey

  499. your love

  500. surrounds me

  501. from your truth

  502. my feet

  503. will never

  504. stray

  505. I'll tell of all

  506. your awesome deeds

  507. verse 7

  508. proclaiming loud

  509. your voice

  510. your glory

  511. fills your dwelling

  512. place

  513. I love your house

  514. always

  515. the one who trusts

  516. and relies on God

  517. and the one who has

  518. the heart

  519. to come to worship him

  520. let us sing this

  521. psalm to the tune

  522. Palerma

  523. Declare me

  524. innocent

  525. O Lord

  526. and we'll stand to sing

  527. Declare me

  528. innocent

  529. O Lord

  530. I've walked

  531. in blameless ways

  532. and I have trusted

  533. in the Lord

  534. Lord

  535. clear me

  536. all my days

  537. test me

  538. O Lord

  539. and try

  540. my heart

  541. my impulse

  542. for

  543. serene

  544. your love

  545. surrounds me

  546. from your truth

  547. God

  548. I

  549. God

  550. I

  551. believe

  552. I hate the weakness gathering.

  553. With them I will not sit.

  554. I wash my hands in him, O sin.

  555. And endless is my heart.

  556. I go abroad, dear altar Lord,

  557. The place you set apart.

  558. I tell all your awesome deeds,

  559. Proclaim in large your praise.

  560. Your glory fills your dwelling place.

  561. I love you once always.

  562. If we could turn and look at,

  563. For a time that we have left in Psalm 40,

  564. And God willing over the next three Sundays,

  565. I hope that we can make steps through this psalm together.

  566. This is one of the well-known psalms.

  567. One that we learned when we were young.

  568. One that is on par with Psalm 23 or Psalm 100.

  569. There's many one that Christians that sit here,

  570. Or those who listen online,

  571. Can say,

  572. This psalm has a special place in my heart.

  573. It is maybe one of the psalms that is a favorite for us to sing when we are in fellowship together.

  574. Or it is a psalm where we may come and read it in the silence of our own hearts,

  575. And the solitude that we have with God.

  576. It is a psalm that speaks of tribulation.

  577. Tribulation, it is one fitting for tribulation.

  578. It is one fitting for times of pain and anguish.

  579. But it is also one that we sing when we rejoice and come in thanks to God.

  580. Psalm 40 has a sympathetic bond with us, we can say.

  581. And rightly so has become a psalm that is cherished by many of the Lord's people.

  582. And in our consideration of this psalm over the next few weeks,

  583. We'll divide it sensibly into three parts.

  584. Our first part today will take us down to where we read the end of verse Mark 5.

  585. And we can call this the waiting on God.

  586. The psalmist waits upon the Lord.

  587. The second part we'll take from verse 6 down to the end of verse Mark 10.

  588. And we can call that the worship of God.

  589. And finally from 11 down to the end of the psalm,

  590. We can call that the walk that we have with God.

  591. And each week hopefully we'll take a passage from Ephesians

  592. To parallel what Psalm 40 and the psalmist speaks to us.

  593. So an overlook in a sense of the psalm.

  594. And something that aids our remembrance of what the psalm means is the wait on God,

  595. The worship of God and the walking with God.

  596. And I hope in the next few weeks all this will become clearer.

  597. But on the outside, as we look at this psalm,

  598. And we stand back from this psalm,

  599. You know, is it not often the case in the Christian's experience

  600. That we are often forced to wait on God.

  601. And we feel every second of that wait.

  602. It is not a passive wait.

  603. It is not a half-hearted wait that we have.

  604. As the psalmist here on the words of the psalm portray it,

  605. As all his words are consuming,

  606. Of his waiting in the midst of struggle and distress.

  607. And then on the relief of the wait that he experiences,

  608. And the relief that we experience as Christians,

  609. When God hears and God answers,

  610. We find that, well, we cannot but come and worship God.

  611. We cannot but come and thank him for what he has done for us.

  612. And we desire to be closer with him,

  613. And to know him better.

  614. And he gives us the strength to walk.

  615. And it is only by his strength,

  616. That we are unable to walk through the difficulties of this world,

  617. And the tribulations of it.

  618. But maybe the greatest thing about this psalm,

  619. Is that though he goes through these experiences,

  620. And we go through these experiences,

  621. The psalmist does not polish them,

  622. As magical perfections of the Christian life.

  623. But they come with ease.

  624. They come with many difficulties.

  625. You know, when we tell a testimony of what the Lord has done for us,

  626. We may be guilty of not maybe fully explaining the difficulties that we go into,

  627. Because of the personalness and privacy of the difficulties.

  628. But the psalmist here portrays that,

  629. Well, he waited on God.

  630. And he longingly waited,

  631. Patiently waited,

  632. And he walked with God,

  633. In a way that was not an easy walk either.

  634. We all find ourselves somewhere,

  635. I think,

  636. In the words of Psalm 40.

  637. I hope you do.

  638. Even if you're not a Christian,

  639. May these words speak to you,

  640. And may God,

  641. By his power,

  642. Speak to our hearts,

  643. As we look at this psalm.

  644. So let us turn our attention,

  645. To the first passage of this psalm.

  646. And we'll look at the trust we have first,

  647. In verses 1 to 2.

  648. We'll look at the transformation,

  649. That comes about in verse 3.

  650. And the testimony of the psalmist,

  651. From verse 4 to 5.

  652. We have the trust,

  653. The transformation,

  654. And the testimony,

  655. In this first section.

  656. I waited patiently for the Lord.

  657. He inclined to me and heard my cry.

  658. He drew me from the pit of destruction,

  659. Out of the miry bog,

  660. And set my feet upon a rock,

  661. Making my steps secure.

  662. The psalmist's trust is in this situation.

  663. David here is actually recalling or reminiscing

  664. Over a past experience.

  665. I didn't appreciate this until I looked and studied the psalm.

  666. You can see that it is all written in the past tense,

  667. This first few verses.

  668. He waited.

  669. It is a past experience.

  670. The psalmist refers to this particular experience that he went through.

  671. And that he found himself in a grave affliction or trial in this experience.

  672. And where does he write this psalm as he looks back, I thought.

  673. We're not told exactly what this psalm relates to in the experience of David.

  674. Just that it was a time of tribulation.

  675. But I wondered,

  676. Well, where was he as he wrote the psalm?

  677. Well, I thought that he would be in a place of peace and security.

  678. He would be resting in his home,

  679. Recalling what the Lord had done for him.

  680. But it is actually not the case.

  681. If you look at verse 17,

  682. The psalmist says,

  683. As for me,

  684. He speaks in the present tense,

  685. I am poor and needy.

  686. But the Lord takes thought of me,

  687. For me.

  688. The psalmist is, in a sense,

  689. In another tribulation and difficulty.

  690. And he is forced,

  691. Maybe we could say,

  692. To recall,

  693. In his tribulation,

  694. I have been here before.

  695. And I trusted in the Lord.

  696. And he did not leave me.

  697. He did not forsake me.

  698. He was faithful to me.

  699. He remembers that he never let him down.

  700. He restored his soul.

  701. And in his remembrance,

  702. He finds himself his own reassurance.

  703. Trusting in the one

  704. Who relieved him from that tribulation.

  705. And we go through many tribulations.

  706. The psalmist, in a sense,

  707. Is not hiding the fact of the tribulation.

  708. That he goes through.

  709. But maybe we have never been through

  710. Something so difficult before.

  711. And it is,

  712. For us as older Christians,

  713. Examples that we must portray clearly

  714. What the Lord has done for us.

  715. And not hide,

  716. When we speak of God,

  717. What he has taken me from.

  718. From the tribulations.

  719. And the difficulty I experienced.

  720. Before the Lord

  721. Relieved me from my plight.

  722. The afflictions of the righteous

  723. Are many.

  724. But the Lord delivers them from them all.

  725. He doesn't hide his afflictions in the psalm.

  726. His remembrance of waiting with patience

  727. Is a hopeful awaiting,

  728. As he recalls.

  729. He was trusting,

  730. Relying on this God,

  731. Though fraught with difficulty,

  732. And maybe the hardest part

  733. Of the psalm is actually

  734. That he had to wait.

  735. I waited for the Lord my God

  736. And patiently did wait,

  737. As the Psalter puts it.

  738. Maybe portrays

  739. The difficulty he had in waiting

  740. And the patience he needed to exercise

  741. In waiting.

  742. Many of us have had to wait upon God

  743. In our experiences.

  744. And it's a difficult thing

  745. As we question ourselves.

  746. And we make questions.

  747. Why is the Lord not answering me?

  748. Waiting should not be underestimated.

  749. And the difficulty of it.

  750. Someone once said that

  751. Patience is not passive.

  752. On the contrary,

  753. It is active.

  754. It is concentrated strength.

  755. We find that

  756. We need to make a conscious effort

  757. In our waiting.

  758. It's not like we're waiting for someone,

  759. You know,

  760. If we drop someone off

  761. To go to an appointment.

  762. We're not.

  763. We're just waiting for them to come back.

  764. Passively.

  765. We're waiting consciously

  766. Because everything

  767. Hangs on

  768. What

  769. Happens.

  770. What will happen.

  771. We are longingly waiting.

  772. But when we come to wait on God

  773. We can be sure

  774. That there will be another voice

  775. That will say to us

  776. Why?

  777. Why are you waiting?

  778. Nobody is listening.

  779. That is where the psalmist's trust

  780. Comes through.

  781. His faith and trust

  782. Overcomes

  783. Any doubts

  784. As ours must

  785. That the devil

  786. Speaks to us.

  787. We must address the devil

  788. To depart from us

  789. In these times.

  790. I trust in God

  791. God

  792. God

  793. Is faithful to his people

  794. God will not forsake his people

  795. And I am one of God's people

  796. I am one that trusts in God

  797. So we have confidence

  798. In our difficulties

  799. And in our waiting

  800. That God

  801. That God will not leave us

  802. And the psalmist

  803. And the Christian

  804. Will commend

  805. To everyone

  806. That God is worth waiting for

  807. The psalmist

  808. Remembered

  809. That he waited

  810. But the psalmist

  811. Remembered

  812. That he cried

  813. In this situation

  814. He made this cry

  815. And it would be

  816. And it would be

  817. Confident to say

  818. That

  819. In the psalm

  820. It's singular cry

  821. But

  822. Our cries

  823. Are often

  824. Never singular

  825. They are many

  826. And painful

  827. Many times

  828. They're never even audible

  829. Situations

  830. That surround us

  831. Like the psalmist

  832. Can weigh upon us

  833. With grievous pains

  834. That we must cry

  835. For him

  836. What was the psalmist

  837. Situation here

  838. Where we see

  839. He was in the pit

  840. Of destruction

  841. He was in the

  842. Miley bog

  843. It says

  844. What does this place

  845. Equate to in your head

  846. As you think about it

  847. What is equal

  848. To being in the pit

  849. Of destruction

  850. For you

  851. The Miley bog

  852. You may well

  853. Be able to say

  854. That I have been

  855. In that place

  856. Or maybe today

  857. You can say

  858. That it feels

  859. Like I am

  860. In the pit

  861. Of destruction

  862. Or in the Miley bog

  863. What was this place

  864. To David

  865. Well it was a place

  866. Where there was

  867. No hope

  868. Surrounded on every side

  869. Weighted

  870. And tired

  871. And all his strength

  872. Taken from him

  873. By the clay

  874. That stuck to his feet

  875. And the mire

  876. That he walked through

  877. In this bog

  878. He may be able to see

  879. Where he wants to go

  880. From the pit

  881. But there is no way

  882. He can attain

  883. What he desires

  884. It is unattainable

  885. And all he can do

  886. Is cry

  887. To God

  888. Cry for help

  889. And it is a confession

  890. That he cannot

  891. Do it himself

  892. The cry

  893. As our cry

  894. Often is

  895. As simple as

  896. God

  897. I need you

  898. Oh God

  899. Will you help me

  900. From this pit

  901. And mire

  902. That I find myself in

  903. We cry

  904. In our experiences

  905. To God

  906. Whatever

  907. Difficulty

  908. Of our situation

  909. Calvin would say

  910. That it is a genuine

  911. Evidence

  912. Of the true

  913. Godliness

  914. When although

  915. Plunged into

  916. The deepest

  917. Afflictions

  918. We yet

  919. Cease not

  920. To submit

  921. Ourselves

  922. To God

  923. In all

  924. The afflictions

  925. That come

  926. Before us

  927. In the situations

  928. We cry

  929. To God

  930. Because the

  931. Psalmist

  932. Recalls

  933. In whom

  934. He trusted

  935. It was

  936. God

  937. It was

  938. God

  939. He inclined

  940. His ear

  941. He drew me

  942. He heard

  943. My cry

  944. He drew me

  945. Out of this

  946. Pit

  947. And he

  948. Unburdened

  949. The weight

  950. Of the

  951. Mire

  952. That sapped

  953. All my

  954. Strength

  955. And set

  956. My feet

  957. Upon a

  958. Rock

  959. Making

  960. My steps

  961. Secure

  962. The

  963. Shure

  964. Footing

  965. That God

  966. Gave to him

  967. Unlike the

  968. Mire

  969. Let him

  970. Stand

  971. Confidently

  972. And securely

  973. Every step

  974. Is made

  975. Securely

  976. It's

  977. The

  978. Psalter

  979. Again

  980. Words

  981. That is

  982. Establishing

  983. My way

  984. God

  985. Takes you

  986. From the

  987. Pit

  988. Sets you

  989. On the

  990. Rock

  991. And establishes

  992. The way

  993. For you

  994. Something

  995. Is established

  996. And it is

  997. Firm

  998. And fixed

  999. In his

  1000. Will

  1001. And he

  1002. Gives you

  1003. Directions

  1004. The passage

  1005. In Ephesians

  1006. Speaks of

  1007. Ones

  1008. That followed

  1009. The course

  1010. Of this

  1011. World

  1012. Spoke of

  1013. Ones

  1014. That were

  1015. Dead

  1016. In

  1017. Trespasses

  1018. And sins

  1019. Spoke of

  1020. The

  1021. This speaks

  1022. Of the

  1023. Extremity

  1024. Of the

  1025. Pit

  1026. Death

  1027. Without

  1028. Trusting

  1029. In Christ

  1030. Without

  1031. A cry

  1032. To Christ

  1033. We remain

  1034. In the

  1035. Pit

  1036. And we

  1037. Remain in

  1038. The

  1039. Mire

  1040. Without

  1041. Hope

  1042. And so

  1043. We cry

  1044. We cry

  1045. And we

  1046. Cry to

  1047. God

  1048. To save

  1049. Me from

  1050. This pit

  1051. And we

  1052. Put all

  1053. Our hope

  1054. In you

  1055. And the

  1056. Place

  1057. May not

  1058. Have any

  1059. Hope

  1060. Or the

  1061. Situation

  1062. And experience

  1063. Of our lives

  1064. May not

  1065. Have any

  1066. Hope

  1067. But we

  1068. Can have

  1069. Hope in

  1070. God

  1071. As the

  1072. Psalmist

  1073. Did

  1074. He hoped

  1075. And waited

  1076. Patiently

  1077. Upon God

  1078. And what

  1079. A transformation

  1080. He knew

  1081. By it

  1082. He trusted

  1083. In God

  1084. Let us

  1085. Look at

  1086. The

  1087. Transformation

  1088. There's a

  1089. Transformation

  1090. Within

  1091. Him

  1092. There's a

  1093. Transformation

  1094. Outwardly

  1095. Verse 3

  1096. He put a

  1097. New song

  1098. In my

  1099. Mouth

  1100. A song

  1101. Of praise

  1102. To our

  1103. God

  1104. Many

  1105. Will see

  1106. And will

  1107. Fear

  1108. And put

  1109. Their trust

  1110. In the

  1111. Lord

  1112. Within

  1113. His heart

  1114. He finds

  1115. This

  1116. New song

  1117. To sing

  1118. He finds

  1119. This desire

  1120. To sing

  1121. This new

  1122. Song

  1123. Thankful

  1124. Praising

  1125. God

  1126. For all

  1127. That he

  1128. Has done

  1129. And it

  1130. Is entirely

  1131. Attributed

  1132. To God

  1133. And God

  1134. Alone

  1135. It is

  1136. Nothing

  1137. Of ourselves

  1138. The

  1139. Psalms

  1140. Did not

  1141. Save

  1142. Themselves

  1143. We as

  1144. Christians

  1145. Do not

  1146. Save

  1147. Ourselves

  1148. And it

  1149. Is by

  1150. Grace

  1151. That we

  1152. Have been

  1153. Saved

  1154. It is a

  1155. Gift

  1156. Of God

  1157. Within

  1158. Him

  1159. He found

  1160. This new

  1161. Song

  1162. Taken

  1163. From this

  1164. Place where

  1165. He was

  1166. Of sorrow

  1167. And cry

  1168. He is

  1169. Rejoicing

  1170. And you

  1171. Know

  1172. I think

  1173. Of this

  1174. Passage

  1175. And I

  1176. Recall

  1177. Myself

  1178. As I

  1179. Fear

  1180. Many

  1181. Of you

  1182. Can

  1183. When we

  1184. Sing

  1185. The

  1186. Psalms

  1187. Sometimes

  1188. We come

  1189. And we

  1190. Just sing

  1191. But there

  1192. Are a lot

  1193. Of times

  1194. We come

  1195. And we

  1196. Sing the

  1197. Psalms

  1198. And we

  1199. The words

  1200. Of it

  1201. Speak to

  1202. Our soul

  1203. And address

  1204. Of how

  1205. We feel

  1206. And we

  1207. Sing them

  1208. We may

  1209. Sing them

  1210. With tears

  1211. We may

  1212. Sing them

  1213. With sorrow

  1214. We may

  1215. Sing it

  1216. With thankfulness

  1217. And awe

  1218. Of what God

  1219. Has done

  1220. For us

  1221. But we're

  1222. Singing it

  1223. And it is

  1224. As if

  1225. The words

  1226. Of the

  1227. Psalm

  1228. Are a new

  1229. Song to us

  1230. Because of

  1231. What he

  1232. Has done

  1233. For me

  1234. And what

  1235. He has

  1236. Done

  1237. For my

  1238. Soul

  1239. And it

  1240. Maybe

  1241. At times

  1242. We will

  1243. Recall

  1244. What God

  1245. Has done

  1246. But it

  1247. Was him

  1248. That who

  1249. Has put

  1250. That new

  1251. Song in

  1252. My heart

  1253. He

  1254. Put a new

  1255. Song in

  1256. My mouth

  1257. A song

  1258. Of praise

  1259. To God

  1260. It is

  1261. Him

  1262. That has

  1263. Done

  1264. And we

  1265. Become

  1266. In a

  1267. Sense

  1268. The singers

  1269. That really

  1270. Sing the

  1271. Psalms of

  1272. God

  1273. Outwardly

  1274. It says

  1275. That many

  1276. Will see

  1277. And fear

  1278. And put

  1279. Their trust

  1280. In God

  1281. This

  1282. Transformation

  1283. Outwardly

  1284. Brings people

  1285. To see

  1286. The change

  1287. And the

  1288. Fear

  1289. And say

  1290. Look

  1291. At this

  1292. Man who

  1293. Was in

  1294. The pit

  1295. He now

  1296. Stands on

  1297. The rock

  1298. Look at

  1299. This man

  1300. Who dragged

  1301. His feet

  1302. Through the

  1303. Clay and

  1304. The mire

  1305. And the

  1306. Difficulty

  1307. Where he

  1308. Was overcome

  1309. By the

  1310. Weight

  1311. Of these

  1312. Things

  1313. He now

  1314. Stands sure

  1315. And firmly

  1316. And confidently

  1317. What has

  1318. Happened to

  1319. This man

  1320. People

  1321. See that

  1322. Change

  1323. And come

  1324. In reverence

  1325. Fear

  1326. To the

  1327. God of

  1328. Conversion

  1329. The God

  1330. Of transformation

  1331. But there

  1332. Is something

  1333. Else

  1334. I want

  1335. To address

  1336. And it

  1337. Is maybe

  1338. Not the

  1339. Intent

  1340. Of the

  1341. Passage

  1342. But some

  1343. People

  1344. Can be

  1345. Afraid

  1346. Of what

  1347. God

  1348. Would do

  1349. With them

  1350. They may

  1351. See changes

  1352. And great

  1353. Wonders

  1354. In others

  1355. We're not

  1356. To be

  1357. To be scared

  1358. Today

  1359. Of what

  1360. God

  1361. Will do

  1362. We're

  1363. To be

  1364. Scared

  1365. What God

  1366. Will do

  1367. With you

  1368. At your

  1369. Death

  1370. If you

  1371. Do not

  1372. Trust in

  1373. Christ

  1374. What hope

  1375. Does this

  1376. World have

  1377. To assure

  1378. You

  1379. And give

  1380. You

  1381. Confidence

  1382. Why

  1383. Do we

  1384. Measure

  1385. Worldly

  1386. Things

  1387. Against

  1388. The

  1389. Immeasurable

  1390. Riches

  1391. Of Christ

  1392. Jesus

  1393. There is

  1394. No

  1395. Comparing

  1396. These

  1397. Things

  1398. Let the

  1399. Psalmist

  1400. Testimony

  1401. Give you

  1402. Confidence

  1403. That we

  1404. Are to

  1405. Come

  1406. And wait

  1407. Upon

  1408. God

  1409. And not

  1410. Worry

  1411. About what

  1412. God will

  1413. Do for

  1414. Us

  1415. Because he

  1416. Will open

  1417. Your eyes

  1418. To see

  1419. That you

  1420. Are in

  1421. A pit

  1422. And a

  1423. Mire

  1424. And that

  1425. He will

  1426. Uplift

  1427. You

  1428. And let

  1429. You stand

  1430. On a

  1431. Rock

  1432. You're

  1433. Far

  1434. Better

  1435. Off

  1436. With

  1437. Christ

  1438. Let the

  1439. Pit

  1440. Not be

  1441. Eternal

  1442. For you

  1443. Today

  1444. Cry to

  1445. God

  1446. To save

  1447. You

  1448. From the

  1449. Pit

  1450. And let

  1451. Him

  1452. Put you

  1453. On a

  1454. Rock

  1455. The

  1456. Rock

  1457. In

  1458. Christ

  1459. Jesus

  1460. And in

  1461. Whom we

  1462. Stand

  1463. And the

  1464. Richest

  1465. That he

  1466. Can give

  1467. To you

  1468. Who

  1469. Trust

  1470. In him

  1471. We

  1472. Pray

  1473. That the

  1474. Psalmist

  1475. Testimony

  1476. As he

  1477. Speaks

  1478. Of what

  1479. God

  1480. Has

  1481. Done

  1482. Would

  1483. Give us

  1484. Confidence

  1485. To wait

  1486. On the

  1487. Lord

  1488. So let

  1489. Us

  1490. Briefly

  1491. Look

  1492. At the

  1493. Testimony

  1494. Of this

  1495. Psalmist

  1496. Blessed

  1497. Is the

  1498. Man

  1499. Who

  1500. Makes

  1501. The

  1502. Lord

  1503. His

  1504. Trust

  1505. Who

  1506. Does

  1507. Not

  1508. Turn

  1509. To

  1510. The

  1511. Proud

  1512. Or

  1513. To

  1514. Those

  1515. Who

  1516. Go

  1517. Astray

  1518. After

  1519. A

  1520. Lie

  1521. You

  1522. Have

  1523. Multiplied

  1524. O

  1525. Lord

  1526. My

  1527. God

  1528. Your

  1529. Wondrous

  1530. Deeds

  1531. To

  1532. Your

  1533. Thoughts

  1534. And

  1535. Your

  1536. Thoughts

  1537. Towards

  1538. Us

  1539. None

  1540. Can

  1541. Compare

  1542. With

  1543. You

  1544. I

  1545. Will

  1546. Proclaim

  1547. Of

  1548. Them

  1549. I

  1550. Will

  1551. Proclaim

  1552. And

  1553. Tell

  1554. Of

  1555. Them

  1556. Yet

  1557. They

  1558. Are

  1559. More

  1560. Than

  1561. Can

  1562. Be

  1563. Told

  1564. David

  1565. Looks

  1566. Back

  1567. At

  1568. This

  1569. Experience

  1570. A

  1571. Man

  1572. Who

  1573. Knows

  1574. The

  1575. Power

  1576. And

  1577. Faithfulness

  1578. Of

  1579. God

  1580. A

  1581. Man

  1582. Who

  1583. Knows

  1584. That

  1585. He

  1586. Will

  1587. Hear

  1588. His

  1589. Cry

  1590. A

  1591. Man

  1592. Who

  1593. Knows

  1594. The

  1595. Difficulty

  1596. Of

  1597. Waiting

  1598. But

  1599. He

  1600. Says

  1601. Blessed

  1602. Is

  1603. The

  1604. Man

  1605. Who

  1606. Makes

  1607. The

  1608. Lord

  1609. His

  1610. Trust

  1611. This

  1612. Is

  1613. David's

  1614. Confession

  1615. And

  1616. It

  1617. Is

  1618. A

  1619. Christian's

  1620. Confession

  1621. As

  1622. They

  1623. Sit

  1624. Here

  1625. Today

  1626. Blessed

  1627. Is

  1628. The

  1629. Man

  1630. Who

  1631. Makes

  1632. The

  1633. Lord

  1634. His

  1635. Trust

  1636. This

  1637. Is

  1638. What

  1639. Every

  1640. Christian

  1641. Will

  1642. Say

  1643. To

  1644. Those

  1645. Who

  1646. Are

  1647. Unconverted

  1648. To

  1649. Those

  1650. Who

  1651. Have

  1652. Not

  1653. Put

  1654. Their

  1655. Trust

  1656. In

  1657. God

  1658. Yet

  1659. This

  1660. Is

  1661. What

  1662. I

  1663. Say

  1664. To

  1665. You

  1666. Today

  1667. Blessed

  1668. Is

  1669. The

  1670. Man

  1671. Who

  1672. Makes

  1673. The

  1674. Lord

  1675. His

  1676. Trust

  1677. This

  1678. Is

  1679. The

  1680. Preacher's

  1681. Desire

  1682. That

  1683. You

  1684. Would

  1685. Trust

  1686. In

  1687. Him

  1688. And

  1689. Know

  1690. His

  1691. Blessing

  1692. Trust

  1693. In

  1694. Him

  1695. When

  1696. Your

  1697. Feet

  1698. Are

  1699. In

  1700. The

  1701. Mire

  1702. Trust

  1703. In

  1704. Him

  1705. When

  1706. You

  1707. Feel

  1708. Like

  1709. You

  1710. Are

  1711. In

  1712. The

  1713. Pit

  1714. Of

  1715. Destruction

  1716. When

  1717. Your

  1718. Situation

  1719. Seems

  1720. Hopeless

  1721. When

  1722. You

  1723. Have

  1724. Nowhere

  1725. To

  1726. Go

  1727. Trust

  1728. In

  1729. God

  1730. And

  1731. Wait

  1732. On

  1733. Him

  1734. And

  1735. He

  1736. Will

  1737. Hear

  1738. Your

  1739. Cry

  1740. The

  1741. Testimony

  1742. Of

  1743. The believer

  1744. Will

  1745. Say

  1746. That

  1747. I

  1748. Have

  1749. Trusted

  1750. In

  1751. God

  1752. And

  1753. So

  1754. Much

  1755. More

  1756. Has

  1757. He

  1758. Given

  1759. Me

  1760. In

  1761. My

  1762. Experiences

  1763. Since

  1764. The

  1765. First

  1766. Time

  1767. He

  1768. Helped

  1769. Me

  1770. He

  1771. Has

  1772. Continued

  1773. With

  1774. Me

  1775. And

  1776. I

  1777. Have

  1778. Not

  1779. Followed

  1780. The

  1781. Lies

  1782. Of

  1783. The

  1784. World

  1785. I

  1786. Have

  1787. Not

  1788. Followed

  1789. The

  1790. Ways

  1791. Of

  1792. The

  1793. Devil

  1794. And

  1795. The

  1796. Temptations

  1797. And

  1798. Distractions

  1799. He

  1800. Has

  1801. Set

  1802. Before

  1803. Me

  1804. I

  1805. Have

  1806. Put

  1807. Behind

  1808. Me

  1809. I

  1810. Say

  1811. I

  1812. Look

  1813. To

  1814. Christ

  1815. I

  1816. Look

  1817. To

  1818. God

  1819. Who

  1820. Has

  1821. Delivered

  1822. Me

  1823. From

  1824. All

  1825. My

  1826. Trials

  1827. And

  1828. Tribulations

  1829. He

  1830. Says

  1831. It

  1832. Is

  1833. A

  1834. Wonder

  1835. About

  1836. These

  1837. Things

  1838. That

  1839. He

  1840. Has

  1841. Done

  1842. These

  1843. Things

  1844. For

  1845. Me

  1846. His

  1847. Thoughts

  1848. Towards

  1849. Us

  1850. We

  1851. Often

  1852. Ask

  1853. Ourselves

  1854. Why

  1855. Does

  1856. God

  1857. Love

  1858. Me

  1859. Why

  1860. Does

  1861. He

  1862. Listen

  1863. To

  1864. My

  1865. Cry

  1866. Why

  1867. Does

  1868. He

  1869. Save

  1870. Me

  1871. It

  1872. Shows

  1873. Us

  1874. His

  1875. Love

  1876. For

  1877. Us

  1878. We

  1879. Want

  1880. To

  1881. Tell

  1882. People

  1883. About

  1884. Christ

  1885. We

  1886. Pray

  1887. That

  1888. We

  1889. Would

  1890. Have

  1891. A

  1892. Heart

  1893. Of

  1894. Desire

  1895. To

  1896. Proclaim

  1897. What

  1898. He

  1899. Has

  1900. Done

  1901. For

  1902. Us

  1903. Not

  1904. Hiding

  1905. The

  1906. Difficulty

  1907. And

  1908. Reality

  1909. Of

  1910. It

  1911. And

  1912. Yet

  1913. He

  1914. Says

  1915. I

  1916. Will

  1917. Proclaim

  1918. And

  1919. Tell

  1920. And

  1921. Yet

  1922. They

  1923. Are

  1924. More

  1925. Than

  1926. Can

  1927. Be

  1928. Told

  1929. It's

  1930. Funny

  1931. Like

  1932. We

  1933. We

  1934. Want

  1935. To

  1936. Say

  1937. All

  1938. That

  1939. Christ

  1940. Has

  1941. Done

  1942. For

  1943. Us

  1944. And

  1945. All

  1946. That

  1947. Christ

  1948. Means

  1949. To

  1950. Us

  1951. But

  1952. We

  1953. Can

  1954. Only

  1955. Go

  1956. So

  1957. Far

  1958. In

  1959. A

  1960. Sense

  1961. I

  1962. Can

  1963. Explain

  1964. It

  1965. So

  1966. Far

  1967. And

  1968. I

  1969. I'm

  1970. Stuck

  1971. And

  1972. All

  1973. I

  1974. Can

  1975. Say

  1976. Is

  1977. What

  1978. The

  1979. Psalmist

  1980. Says

  1981. Is

  1982. That

  1983. While

  1984. He

  1985. Inclined

  1986. His

  1987. Ear

  1988. Towards

  1989. Me

  1990. And

  1991. He

  1992. Drew

  1993. Me

  1994. Out

  1995. Of

  1996. The

  1997. Put

  1998. And

  1999. He

  2000. Put

  2001. A

  2002. New

  2003. Song

  2004. In

  2005. My

  2006. Heart

  2007. And

  2008. He

  2009. Has

  2010. Done

  2011. Everything

  2012. For

  2013. Me

  2014. It

  2015. Is

  2016. A

  2017. Gift

  2018. Of

  2019. God

  2020. It

  2021. Is

  2022. Not

  2023. Of

  2024. Our

  2025. Own

  2026. Do

  2027. So

  2028. Make

  2029. This

  2030. Year

  2031. A

  2032. Year

  2033. To

  2034. Trust

  2035. In

  2036. God

  2037. That

  2038. He

  2039. May

  2040. Hear

  2041. Your

  2042. Cry

  2043. And

  2044. Work

  2045. A

  2046. Transformation

  2047. Within

  2048. Your

  2049. Soul

  2050. And

  2051. By

  2052. The

  2053. Power

  2054. Of

  2055. His

  2056. Spirit

  2057. And

  2058. The

  2059. Workings

  2060. Of

  2061. His

  2062. Spirit

  2063. Within

  2064. Your

  2065. Soul

  2066. You

  2067. Would

  2068. Be

  2069. Able

  2070. To

  2071. Say

  2072. That

  2073. You

  2074. Too

  2075. Can

  2076. Testify

  2077. That

  2078. The

  2079. Words

  2080. Of

  2081. Psalm

  2082. 40

  2083. Are

  2084. True

  2085. And

  2086. Trust

  2087. Why

  2088. Take

  2089. Courage

  2090. Wait

  2091. On

  2092. God

  2093. With

  2094. Confidence

  2095. Each

  2096. And

  2097. Every

  2098. One

  2099. Of

  2100. Take

  2101. Courage

  2102. And

  2103. Wait

  2104. On

  2105. God

  2106. With

  2107. Confidence

  2108. Because

  2109. See

  2110. When

  2111. You

  2112. Look

  2113. Through

  2114. This

  2115. Psalm

  2116. It

  2117. Is

  2118. So

  2119. Much

  2120. About

  2121. David

  2122. It

  2123. Is

  2124. So

  2125. Much

  2126. About

  2127. Ourselves

  2128. But

  2129. It

  2130. Is

  2131. So

  2132. Much

  2133. About

  2134. Christ

  2135. We

  2136. See

  2137. That

  2138. Christ

  2139. From

  2140. Gethsemane

  2141. Patiently

  2142. Cried

  2143. Out

  2144. To

  2145. God

  2146. He

  2147. Was

  2148. Mocked

  2149. And

  2150. Patiently

  2151. Endured

  2152. It

  2153. He

  2154. Endured

  2155. The

  2156. Pains

  2157. Of

  2158. The

  2159. Cross

  2160. As

  2161. We

  2162. Go

  2163. Home

  2164. Today

  2165. May

  2166. You

  2167. See

  2168. As

  2169. You

  2170. Read

  2171. Through

  2172. Where

  2173. Christ

  2174. Relates

  2175. To

  2176. Psalm

  2177. 40

  2178. And

  2179. It

  2180. Is

  2181. Actually

  2182. A

  2183. Prophetic

  2184. Words

  2185. Of

  2186. David

  2187. In

  2188. Relation

  2189. To

  2190. Christ

  2191. Our

  2192. Time

  2193. Has

  2194. Gone

  2195. To

  2196. To

  2197. To

  2198. To

  2199. To

  2200. See

  2201. Where

  2202. We

  2203. Are

  2204. Related

  2205. In

  2206. The

  2207. Psalm

  2208. Where

  2209. David's

  2210. Words

  2211. Are

  2212. True

  2213. To

  2214. Us

  2215. And

  2216. Yet

  2217. Where

  2218. It

  2219. Is

  2220. True

  2221. Of

  2222. The

  2223. Experience

  2224. Of

  2225. Christ

  2226. Himself

  2227. May

  2228. These

  2229. Thoughts

  2230. Be

  2231. Blessed

  2232. To

  2233. Each

  2234. And

  2235. Every

  2236. One

  2237. Of

  2238. We

  2239. Will

  2240. Conclude

  2241. By

  2242. Singing

  2243. In

  2244. That

  2245. Psalm

  2246. 40

  2247. From

  2248. The

  2249. Scottish

  2250. Psalter

  2251. From

  2252. The

  2253. Beginning

  2254. We'll

  2255. Sing

  2256. The

  2257. Verses

  2258. That

  2259. We've

  2260. Looked

  2261. At

  2262. From

  2263. One

  2264. Down

  2265. To

  2266. Verse

  2267. Mark

  2268. Five

  2269. Two

  2270. Verses

  2271. Two

  2272. Five

  2273. I

  2274. Waited

  2275. For

  2276. The

  2277. Lord

  2278. My

  2279. God

  2280. And

  2281. Patient

  2282. Leaded

  2283. Bear

  2284. At

  2285. Length

  2286. To

  2287. Me

  2288. He

  2289. Did

  2290. Incline

  2291. My

  2292. Voice

  2293. And

  2294. Cry

  2295. To

  2296. Hear

  2297. The

  2298. Scottish

  2299. Psalter

  2300. Version

  2302. 259

  2303. May

  2304. We

  2305. Sing

  2306. These

  2307. Words

  2308. And

  2309. See

  2310. The

  2311. Experience

  2312. Of

  2313. The

  2314. Psalmist

  2315. The

  2316. Experience

  2317. That

  2318. We

  2319. Ourselves

  2320. Have

  2321. Been

  2322. Through

  2323. And

  2324. The

  2325. Experience

  2326. Of

  2327. Christ

  2328. And

  2329. All

  2330. That

  2331. He

  2332. Has

  2333. Done

  2334. For

  2335. Us

  2336. So

  2337. Let

  2338. Us

  2339. Stand

  2340. We'll

  2341. Sing

  2342. Verses

  2343. One

  2344. Down

  2345. To

  2347. Mark

  2349. To

  2350. The

  2351. Tune

  2352. Amazing

  2353. Grace

  2354. I

  2355. Waited

  2356. For

  2357. The

  2358. Lord

  2359. My

  2360. God

  2361. I

  2362. Waited

  2363. For

  2364. The

  2366. My

  2367. God

  2368. And

  2369. patiently

  2370. Did

  2371. Fear

  2372. And

  2373. Plain

  2374. To

  2375. Me

  2376. He

  2377. Didn't

  2378. Cry

  2379. My

  2380. Voice

  2381. And

  2382. Cry

  2383. To

  2384. Hear

  2385. He

  2386. Took

  2387. Me

  2388. From

  2389. A

  2390. Fear

  2391. Fulcret

  2392. And

  2393. From

  2394. The

  2395. Night

  2396. He

  2397. Play

  2398. And

  2399. On

  2400. The

  2401. Rock

  2402. He

  2403. begins

  2404. Loving

  2405. He

  2406. Set

  2407. My

  2408. BraDS

  2409. Hello

  2410. In

2411. My love, a rock to my divine.

2412. When ye shall see, and shall fear.

2413. Adon the Lord be nigh.

2414. O blessed is the man whose trust upon the Lord relies.

2415. Respecting not the pride nor such.

2416. As hard as I to rise.

2417. O Lord my God, who may be I?

2418. The wonders thou hast done.

2419. Thy ignitions not to us were found.

2420. Above all thoughts are gone.

2421. Then all the blood that pray for them.

2422. To thee let them be fair.

  2423. And seek of them.

2424. I would be more than can be done for time.

  2425. Amen.

2426. I conclude with a word of prayer.

2427. Our Father in heaven, we sing the words of the psalmist.

2428. And Lord, may many sing them with words of heartfelt thanks.

2429. There are many who sing the pains of the afflictions of the life that we have endured.

2430. Lord, whatever our situation, we find ourselves in these words.

2431. But we see that Christ was there too.

2432. And he is a saviour who can sympathise with our experience.

2433. And so he is one that we can easily approach.

2434. And with all our cries.

2435. And he knows our cries.

2436. So Lord, wherever we are today, pray that we would turn to you.

2437. And that you would meet us at our need.

2438. Lord, we pray for the words that will be spoken later in our gatherings.

2439. We pray that we would have a desire to come and hear the word of God being preached.

2440. We pray for yourself and as he prepares to do so.

2441. Prepare our hearts to hear your word.

2442. Be with us, Lord, in our outgoings.

2443. And as we depart, be with us in our friendships and fellowships.

2444. Forgive us our sins, we ask, as we come to Christ, acknowledging and confessing them.

  2445. Amen.

2446. We pray for the rest of you, Lord.

2447. Many of us in our hearts and blessings.

  2448. .

  2449. Amen.

  2450. Amen.

  2451. Amen.

  2452. Amen.

  2453. Amen.

  2454. Amen.

  2455. Amen.

  2456. Amen.

  2457. Amen.

  2458. Amen.

  2459. Amen.

  2460. Amen.

  2461. Amen.

  2462. Amen.

  2463. Amen.

  2464. Amen.
