  1. We'll begin our worship now by singing to God's praise. We're singing in Psalm 118 at verse 20.

  2. Psalm 118 at verse 20, the tune is Warwick. Psalm we're so familiar with maybe at communion times

  3. when we sing it. This is the gate of God by it, the just shall enter in. Thee will I praise,

  4. for thou me heardst and hast my safety been. We'll sing from verse 20 down to the end of the psalm

  5. to God's praise.

  6. Amen.

  7. Thee will I praise, for thou me heardst and hast my safety be.

  8. That stone is made at cornerstone, which shinders in his eyes.

  9. This is the doing of the Lord, and what has in our eyes.

  10. This is the day, O made in it, will joy triumphantly.

  11. Sing now, I pray thee, Lord, I pray, send thou prosperity.

  12. Blessed is he in God's great name, that command us to save.

  13. We from blood, which to the Lord, work day to bless it, are.

  14. And what is the Lord due unto us, and make light to our eyes?

  15. I pray thee unto thee, O Lord, work day to our hearts, with course the sacrifice.

  16. Thy heart, my God, I'll be exiled.

  17. My Lord, I will be praised.

  18. Give thanks to God, for he is good.

  19. His mercy lasts always.

  20. Let's come to God in prayer.

  21. Let us pray.

  22. Our Father in heaven, as we come to worship you, we thank you for the promise that you delight to hear our singing of praise.

  23. You delight to hear your people offering a prayer to you, and you delight in worship.

  24. And we pray, Lord, that we would delight in coming to you as well.

  25. That we would rejoice that you are a God who hears and listens to all our prayers, from the youngest to the oldest here.

  26. That you hear what we offer up to you in all our worship.

  27. And we thank you that even as we come in prayer, it doesn't have to be with big words or long prayers.

  28. But we can just come offering up just words of thanks to you, words asking for help from you, words asking for help for others.

  29. And so much of our prayer, Lord, is that you will do us good.

  30. That you will help us to know Jesus and the joy that he gives.

  31. That you will help this world in which we live to know how precious a saviour you are

  32. and the hope that you are able to give in the midst of all that goes on.

  33. We thank you that the light of your word, your truth, shines in around us and even through us.

  34. And so we pray, Lord, your blessing on us today.

  35. Upon all that we hear and all that we do, may you be with us and guide us and keep us.

  36. We pray especially for our young ones as they will go out shortly to the Sunday school, the creche and the tweenies.

  37. We pray your blessing on them.

  38. Encourage them together around your word as well and all of us together.

  39. So hear all our prayers and accept our worship of you this day and pardon our sins as we ask it all in Jesus' name.

  40. Amen.

  41. Well, it's good to see you today and see so many young ones here today scattered all over.

  42. Sometimes it's hard to find where you are because everyone's sitting in different places.

  43. Well, it's good to see you and I want to ask you a question this morning.

  44. Does anybody here have a pet at home?

  45. Put your hand up if you've got a pet at home, yeah?

  46. A few hands going up around the place.

  47. All right.

  48. Quite a few people have pets, yeah?

  49. Maybe we have pets, different kinds of pets.

  50. Anybody got a pet snake?

  51. No?

  52. Thank goodness, isn't it?

  53. No, you wouldn't want a pet snake, would you?

  54. Some people do, though.

  55. Most people, maybe you have a dog or a cat or a hamster or something like that.

  56. And when you get a pet, what's one of the first things you do?

  57. When you maybe get a pet dog, what's the first thing you do?

  58. Do you just call it dog or doggy?

  59. No, you called a name, don't you?

  60. Very often you give a pet a name.

  61. So when your pet hears you calling that name, it might come running back to you.

  62. Especially for dogs.

  63. We've got a dog, he's called Benji.

  64. And so if you shout Benji, you hope that he's going to come running back to you.

  65. Now, maybe this seems like a strange question.

  66. Does anybody have a pet stone?

  67. It's not a pet, is it?

  68. You don't have a stone that's a pet, do you?

  69. Does anybody have a pet stone?

  70. No?

  71. It seems quite strange maybe to the idea of having a pet stone.

  72. But perhaps you've got stones at home.

  73. Maybe you've been to the beach one day.

  74. Do you like collecting stones at the beach?

  75. Maybe you see a nice colored stone and you take it home with you.

  76. Maybe you've been out walking on the moor and you see another kind of stone lying there

  77. and you think to yourself, that would be pretty at home.

  78. So you take it home with you.

  79. And sometimes people can collect a lot of stones in different places.

  80. But do you ever give a stone a name?

  81. Maybe not.

  82. But in our Bible story today we're going to be looking at, we're going to be thinking about

  83. someone who gave a stone a special name.

  84. A man called Samuel had this special big stone that he called Ebenezer.

  85. That's a funny name, isn't it?

  86. Ebenezer.

  87. Now, why do you think he called the stone Ebenezer?

  88. Seems a funny name to us, doesn't it?

  89. But to Samuel and to God's people it meant something really special.

  90. They weren't calling this stone Ebenezer so that the stone would hear them.

  91. They were calling this stone Ebenezer because it reminded them of something special.

  92. Because the name Ebenezer means, till now God has helped.

  93. And what they were doing was they had this stone that they would look to and they would

  94. see it and it would remind them.

  95. Just like maybe a stone would remind you of a beach you've been to or something like that.

  96. This stone reminded the people of what God had done for them.

  97. And they were able to say, till now the Lord has helped us.

  98. So they weren't calling the stone a name as a pet.

  99. They weren't calling the stone so they could shout to the stone Ebenezer.

  100. They were calling it Ebenezer so they would remind them to call on someone else.

  101. To call on God.

  102. And to call on God giving thanks to him and rejoicing in him that he is the one who is

  103. able to help.

  104. And today we don't have a stone called Ebenezer.

  105. We have another stone described in the Bible as a stone, a rock.

  106. He's the Lord Jesus Christ.

  107. And we are able to call on him for help.

  108. And to say that even till now he has helped us and he always will as we put our trust

  109. in him.

  110. So we think of the Ebenezer stone today.

  111. The stone that reminds us that till now the Lord has helped us.

  112. Well, we'll say the Lord's prayer together.

  113. Now let's pray.

  114. Amen.

  115. Our Father, which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.

  116. Thy kingdom come.

  117. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  118. Give us this day our daily bread.

  119. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.

  120. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.

  121. For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory forever.

  122. Amen.

  123. Amen.

  124. Well, we'll sing again to God's praise this time in Psalm 130 in the Scottish Psalter.

  125. Psalm 130.

  126. We're going to sing the whole of this psalm.

  127. The tune is martyrdom.

  128. And this is a psalm that reminds us, just as we were saying there, that we can call on

  129. the Lord and that he hears us and is able to help us.

  130. Lord, from the depths to thee I cried.

  131. My voice, Lord, do thou hear.

  132. And to my supplication's voice give an attentive ear.

  133. We'll sing the whole of this psalm to God's praise.

  134. Lord, from the depths to thee I cried.

  135. My voice, Lord, do thou hear.

  136. And to my supplication's voice give an attentive ear.

  137. Lord, you shall sigh if thou, O Lord, should smart iniquity.

  138. But yet with thee forgive me.

  139. Forbiveness is the fear of the mayest need.

  140. I wait for God, my soul of grace.

  141. My hope is in his word.

  142. Lord, I may not for more remorse.

  143. My soul of grace.

  144. My soul of grace.

  145. My soul of grace.

  146. For the Lord.

  147. I say, Lord, I may not for more remorse.

  148. My soul of grace.

  149. For the Lord.

  150. I say, Lord, I may not for more remorse.

  151. For the Lord.

  152. I may not for more remorse.

  153. Let Israel open the door, for with him ask his feet.

  154. And then Jesus' rejection, his severed heart, with him,

  155. And from all his liberties, he Israel shall redeem.

  156. Amen.

  157. And so they decided eventually to return the ark back to God's people.

  158. But even as it came back to God's people, as it returned to Israel, as you see in chapter 6,

  159. the people of God didn't really know what to do with it either.

  160. They had lost their focus of it.

  161. They rejoiced in its return, but they didn't really know what to do with it.

  162. And it was almost left for this period of time.

  163. But then Samuel comes onto the scene in chapter 7.

  164. And that's what we're going to focus on this morning.

  165. But we'll take up our reading at verse 20 of chapter 6.

  166. Then the men of Beth Shemesh said,

  167. So they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kiriath-Jerim, saying,

  168. The Philistines have returned the ark of the Lord.

  169. Come down and take it up to you.

  170. And the men of Kiriath-Jerim came and took up the ark of the Lord and brought it to the house of Abinadab on the hill.

  171. And they consecrated his son, Eliezer, to have charge of the ark of the Lord.

  172. From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-Jerim, a long time passed, some twenty years.

  173. And all of the house of Israel lamented after the Lord.

  174. And Samuel said to all the house of Israel,

  175. If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart,

  176. then put away the foreign gods and the Ashtoreth from among you,

  177. and direct your heart to the Lord, and serve him only.

  178. And he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

  179. So the people of Israel put away the Baals and the Ashtoreth,

  180. and they served the Lord only.

  181. Then Samuel said,

  182. Gather all Israel at Mishpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.

  183. So they gathered at Mishpah and drew water and poured it out before the Lord,

  184. and fasted on that day and said there,

  185. We have sinned against the Lord.

  186. And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mishpah.

  187. Now when the Philistines heard that the people of Israel had gathered at Mishpah,

  188. the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel.

  189. And when the people of Israel heard of it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

  190. And the people of Israel said to Samuel,

  191. Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us,

  192. that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.

  193. So Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord.

  194. And Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel,

  195. and the Lord answered him.

  196. As Samuel was offering up the burnt offering,

  197. the Philistines threw near to attack Israel.

  198. But the Lord thundered with a mighty sound that day against the Philistines,

  199. and threw them into confusion.

  200. And they were routed before Israel.

  201. And the men of Israel went out from Mishpah,

  202. and pursued the Philistines,

  203. and struck them as far as below Beth-kar.

  204. Then Samuel took a stone,

  205. and set it up between Mishpah and Shen,

  206. and called its name Ebenezer.

  207. For he said,

  208. Till now the Lord has helped us.

  209. So the Philistines were subdued,

  210. and did not again enter the territory of Israel.

  211. And the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

  212. The cities that the Philistines had taken from Israel

  213. were restored to Israel from Ekron to Gath.

  214. And Israel delivered their territory from the hand of the Philistines.

  215. There was peace also between Israel and the Amorites.

  216. Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

  217. And he went on a circuit year by year to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mishpah.

  218. And he judged Israel in all these places.

  219. Then he would return to Ramah,

  220. for his home was there.

  221. And there also he judged Israel.

  222. And he built there an altar to the Lord.

  223. Amen.

  224. And may God bless that word to us.

  225. We'll again come to God in prayer.

  226. Let us pray.

  227. Our Father in heaven,

  228. we continue to worship your name

  229. and praise you that you are the God who has spoken to us.

  230. And you continue to speak to us through your word.

  231. We thank you for the way we are reminded there

  232. of how Samuel brought your word to your people so long ago.

  233. A word that they had maybe become disinterested in

  234. or didn't know what to do with.

  235. But yet a word that awoken them from their slumber

  236. and brought them to recognize that they had sinned against you.

  237. And it awoke them to see their need of repentance

  238. and turning to you and the blessings that come from that.

  239. And we pray that as your word is proclaimed today far and wide

  240. throughout our land and throughout the world,

  241. that there will be a word that is powerful to many

  242. to awaken and to bring many people to see

  243. that we have sinned against God,

  244. but yet to see too the mercy that is found in Christ Jesus.

  245. And we pray, Lord, that you will turn us in repentance to you.

  246. For as we confess our sins,

  247. as we have sung together in that wonderful psalm,

  248. that you are the one who is able to forgive our sins.

  249. And so we pray, Lord, that you will help us

  250. to put our hope in the Lord.

  251. So may you bless us together here

  252. and remembering those tuning in online as well

  253. and those who will tune in maybe even in days and weeks coming, Lord.

  254. We pray for your word to be blessed to us

  255. and for you to be in the midst of us as we come

  256. to worship and praise your name.

  257. We thank you that you alone are worthy of our praise,

  258. that we are people just as of old who so often make idols,

  259. who we worship in different ways,

  260. the things that come between us and you so easily.

  261. And just as of old, Lord,

  262. as Samuel warned to put away,

  263. so help us to put away our own idols today,

  264. that we'll be able to worship you aright,

  265. that we'll be able to come seeking, Lord,

  266. that you will redeem us as your people,

  267. that you will rejoice over us as your people,

  268. and that we will delight in you

  269. as the God of our hope,

  270. the God of our salvation.

  271. And we do remember, Lord,

  272. all going on within our congregation

  273. and within our communities at this time as well.

  274. We thank you, Lord,

  275. for the work of the gospel as it goes on.

  276. We thank you that your gospel is powerful

  277. and mighty to save.

  278. We thank you for the way it works in people's lives,

  279. the way it reaches out,

  280. even when we maybe feel that there is nothing happening.

  281. We thank you, Lord,

  282. that you have power over all

  283. through your mighty spirit.

  284. And we pray, Lord,

  285. for a day of your refreshing over us,

  286. a day of your blessing with us, Lord,

  287. as a people,

  288. a day where you would see young and old

  289. coming to rejoice in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  290. And as we anticipate, Lord,

  291. and look forward to,

  292. God willing,

  293. our communion season,

  294. we pray, Lord,

  295. your blessing on all of us

  296. as we prepare for it

  297. and upon the preachers

  298. as they prepare to minister as well,

  299. not just with ourselves here,

  300. but throughout our town

  301. and indeed throughout our islands

  302. over these coming weeks,

  303. that it will be a time of refreshing

  304. and nourishing of our souls,

  305. a time of building up your people,

  306. a time of people rejoicing

  307. and sinners being saved.

  308. May it be a time of real blessing

  309. as we look forward,

  310. not for our own glory,

  311. but for yours.

  312. Be with us, Lord, in it all.

  313. And may your name be praised.

  314. Remember, too,

  315. the induction taking place,

  316. God willing,

  317. on Friday.

  318. Again, we commit

  319. around all my cloud

  320. to your care at this time.

  321. And we pray, Lord,

  322. for your blessing on him

  323. as his new ministry will begin.

  324. Remember, Reverend Paul Murray,

  325. as he will lead the service

  326. on Friday evening.

  327. Be with him.

  328. Uphold him in his preparation

  329. and on the evening as well.

  330. And may we see many people

  331. coming to rejoice

  332. with those in North Tolstain.

  333. Give thanks for your goodness

  334. in this way

  335. and seeking your blessing

  336. upon the ministry

  337. of your word there.

  338. Remember our islands,

  339. Lord, as a whole.

  340. We know, Lord,

  341. it's been such a sad time

  342. for so many,

  343. so many funerals

  344. taking place

  345. over these last few weeks.

  346. And we just pray

  347. for your comfort.

  348. We pray for your blessing.

  349. We pray for your peace

  350. to be upon us.

  351. It's a peace

  352. that we cannot understand.

  353. It's a peace,

  354. as the word says,

  355. that passes understanding.

  356. But we thank you for it.

  357. And how in times of need,

  358. when you provided,

  359. we are so refreshed

  360. refreshed and encouraged,

  361. even in the sorrow

  362. of our hearts,

  363. that we know

  364. that you are God

  365. and that you are with us.

  366. So we pray, Lord,

  367. that people will be able

  368. to call upon your name

  369. together as a people,

  370. that we will hear

  371. your voice speaking to us,

  372. that there will be a voice

  373. that makes us turn to you

  374. and seek your face.

  375. Remember our land,

  376. O Lord,

  377. we pray as we continue

  378. to pray for our nation

  379. as a whole

  380. and all that goes on

  381. around us.

  382. We hear so much sorrow

  383. and sadness

  384. in so many places.

  385. And as we've heard

  386. so often,

  387. Lord,

  388. that we are

  389. in a day of darkness,

  390. we thank you

  391. for the light

  392. of the gospel

  393. and we pray

  394. that it will shine brightly

  395. throughout our land

  396. and throughout the world,

  397. that your word

  398. will go out

  399. with power

  400. from those leading over us

  401. in positions of power

  402. and authority

  403. right down

  404. through every people

  405. and place of our land

  406. that your voice

  407. will be heard

  408. and that your name

  409. will be praised.

  410. Keep us, O Lord,

  411. looking to you

  412. and help us to pray.

  413. Help us to pray

  414. even in all our doubts

  415. and fears and worries

  416. that we will remember

  417. that you are God

  418. and there is no other.

  419. So hear us now

  420. and continue with us

  421. in our worship of you

  422. and may your name

  423. be praised and glorified

  424. in our midst

  425. and in our hearts.

  426. Hear our prayers

  427. and forgive our sins

  428. as we ask it all

  429. in Jesus' name.

  430. Amen.

  431. So again,

  432. sing to God's praise

  433. before we turn back

  434. to look at this passage

  435. in Psalm 138.

  436. Psalm 138.

  437. We sing verse 1

  438. to verse 5.

  439. Thee will I praise

  440. with all my heart.

  441. I will sing praise to Thee

  442. before the gods

  443. and worship will

  444. toward Thy sanctuary.

  445. We'll sing from verse 1

  446. to 5

  447. to God's praise.

  448. And the tune

  449. is mantras.

  450. Amen.

  451. Thee will I face

  452. with all my heart.

  453. I will sing praise to Thee

  454. before the gods

  455. and worship will

  456. to Lord Thy Son

  457. o cop 107.

  458. Lord Thine

  459. and worship шill

  460. Oldalition

  461. divine, O

  462. thy great name above.

  463. Thou didst me

  464. a solid

  465. dirty when

  466. I to thee did

  467. cry.

  468. I've learned

  469. my painting

  470. so will

  471. spread.

  472. Dissent

  473. and inwardly.

  474. All kings

  475. upon

  476. the earth

  477. that I

  478. shall

  479. give thee

  480. praise, O

  481. Lord.

  482. When a

  483. state

  484. groan,

  485. thy heart

  486. shall

  487. hear

  488. thy true

  489. unfaithful

  490. word.

  491. Yea, in the

  492. righteous

  493. ways of

  494. God,

  495. with

  496. madness

  497. they

  498. shall

  499. sing,

  500. for

  501. grace

  502. and

  503. glory

  504. of the

  505. Lord,

  506. will

  507. not

  508. forever

  509. reign.

  510. We can turn back now to a reading in 1 Samuel chapter 7.

    1 Samuel 7 chapter mention

  511. We read again at verse 12.

  512. 1 Samuel chapter 7 at verse 12.

    1 Samuel 7 chapter mention

  513. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen and called its name Ebenezer.

  514. For he said, till now the Lord has helped us.

  515. We're very familiar living where we do and seeing stones and rocks all around us.

  516. It doesn't matter how often you go through the garden and weed out all the stones.

  517. There seems to be always more that will come back.

  518. And as you go out and about, everywhere you look around yourselves, you see stones and rocks of different shapes and sizes.

  519. But as you look around, there's sometimes particular places where you see stones that stand out for a reason.

  520. It may be a pile of stones placed in the shape of a cairn.

  521. And you wonder to yourself, what does that mean? Why is it there?

  522. It may be as you're passing through villages, you see stones that have been shaped and formed to form a memorial.

  523. Like the war memorials we see throughout our islands.

  524. And you see them and you ask yourself, or maybe you're asked by somebody else,

  525. why are they there and what do they mean?

  526. You also see standing stones and different kinds of stones around the island

  527. that seem to have been placed there maybe a very long time ago.

  528. And people again ask, you know, where do they come from?

  529. What do they mean?

  530. What do they represent?

  531. So we're surrounded by these kinds of things.

  532. And they make us ask questions.

  533. And perhaps that's the very reason why they've been put there in the past.

  534. They're significant for a reason because they bring us back to ask these questions.

  535. What does it mean?

  536. What does it stand for?

  537. And they stand as a reminder to something.

  538. Like war memorials keep reminding us day by day and year by year of the great sacrifices that were made for our freedom.

  539. And very often as you're reading through the Bible, you find the different parts, especially in the Old Testament.

  540. You find times when the people set out piles of stones or certain kinds of stones.

  541. And they placed them there for a reason.

  542. And the reason was that as people would see them, they would ask, what do they mean?

  543. What does that stand for?

  544. And here in Samuel, 1 Samuel chapter 7, we have one of these occasions when a stone is placed there as a marker.

    1 Samuel 7 chapter mention

  545. So people, when they ask, what does this stone mean?

  546. We'll have an answer.

  547. Samuel, it says in verse 12, took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shennan and called its name Ebenezer.

  548. For he said, till now the Lord has helped us.

  549. It will be a reminder to the people continually that the Lord has helped them.

  550. And this is the last time you see Samuel mentioned in this book is way back in chapter 3.

  551. When you see Samuel called by God as a young man.

  552. Samuel, it's an amazing story to read through his life story.

  553. How he came to be dedicated to the Lord by his mother.

  554. To serve the Lord all his days.

  555. But in chapter 3, you then jump forward to chapter 7.

  556. Now in chapter 3, it's talking about how the word was blessed through Samuel.

  557. It says in the end of chapter 3, verse 21,

  558. The Lord appeared again at Shiloh, for the Lord revealed himself to Samuel at Shiloh by the word of the Lord.

  559. The word of the Lord was blessed through Samuel.

  560. But in the intervening time, and it seems that a number of years have passed by between chapter 3 and chapter 7,

  561. You think to yourself, well, if they had the word of God, things would have gone well for them.

  562. They would have carried on and been blessed by God.

  563. But that's not what happened.

  564. The Ark of the Covenant was taken away by the Philistines.

  565. The people felt hopeless.

  566. They felt as if almost God had left them.

  567. And there's a sense of dismay and despair.

  568. And what's interesting is when you see at the beginning of chapter 4,

  569. There's two verses in chapter 4 that stand out for us.

  570. Verse 1 says,

  571. The word of Samuel came to all Israel.

  572. There's the end of Samuel speaking.

  573. Now Israel went out to battle against the Philistines.

  574. They encamped at Ebenezer.

  575. And the Philistines encamped at Aphek.

  576. And so it goes on, the Philistines conquered them.

  577. But then when you go forward to verse 21 in chapter 4,

  578. And this is after the Ark's been captured.

  579. Eli has passed away, the one who raised Samuel, who looked after him.

  580. His two sons had disobeyed him.

  581. They had been unfaithful towards God and his word.

  582. And one of the sons, Phinehas' wife, gave birth.

  583. And look at what she called the name of the child.

  584. In verse 21,

  585. She named the child Ichabod, saying,

  586. The glory has departed.

  587. It was significant that that's what he was named.

  588. The glory of God had departed.

  589. The Ark of the Covenant had been taken away.

  590. And yet here now we begin to see a turning point.

  591. The glory had departed because the Ark was lost.

  592. But now there was a return.

  593. But even then they didn't know what to do with it.

  594. Now when we think of our own situation today,

  595. And you think of the glory of God that was enjoyed throughout our land.

  596. And the blessings that were enjoyed from God's hand throughout our land.

  597. It's almost like we could say Ichabod today.

  598. The glory of God has departed.

  599. Instead of losing the Ark in battle,

  600. We're almost in danger of giving away the presence of God

  601. And the blessing of God through casting him out of our society.

  602. Casting him away from ourselves as a people.

  603. But in the midst of that, there's still this hope.

  604. And that's the hope that Samuel calls the people of Israel to here in chapter 7.

  605. And the call that we have to ourselves as well.

  606. There's a warning for us here when you come into chapter 7.

  607. And Samuel says in verse 3,

  608. There's a call to return to the Lord.

  609. Because when you see in verse 2 of this chapter,

  610. It says that all Israel lamented after the Lord.

  611. There was a sense of,

  612. I'm sorry, but I don't know what to do with this sorrow.

  613. There's a sense of not knowing how to go about their lives.

  614. They know they've turned against God.

  615. They know they've offended God.

  616. But they don't know where to go with it.

  617. For 20 years, there's been this lamenting.

  618. Until Samuel comes with this word.

  619. And for ourselves today, think of,

  620. Even looking back in your own life, 20 years.

  621. What has been your experience of the Lord through those 20 years?

  622. Have you been lamenting, just like the children of Israel here?

  623. Maybe feeling sorry about the things that you're doing,

  624. But not knowing what to do about it.

  625. Have you been maybe just ignoring God for 20 years?

  626. Or have you known the blessing of God's transforming power in these 20 years?

  627. There's so much that we can look back over in our lives and think,

  628. Can we truly be thankful to God for what He has done for us?

  629. Are we just lamenting or are we truly repenting?

  630. There's a huge difference.

  631. And that's what Samuel comes to call the people to.

  632. And our nation could so easily become a nation that sees stone buildings,

  633. Church buildings throughout our land emptied,

  634. Standing empty in many different parts of our nation.

  635. And people may be passing by and saying,

  636. What do they mean?

  637. What was that place once used for?

  638. Why is it empty now?

  639. And what explanation would we give?

  640. Or would we long to see our nation a place where these places are full

  641. With people coming to seek the Lord?

  642. Well here, Samuel enters the people once again.

  643. And he comes with a word.

  644. And the word is mercy.

  645. The word is mercy.

  646. And that's the word we want to think about together today especially.

  647. The mercy that we see that Samuel speaks of.

  648. And the first thing we notice about this is,

  649. Samuel highlights the need of God's mercy.

  650. The need of God's mercy.

  651. Back in chapter 3 when Samuel appeared,

  652. It was a period of grace for God's people.

  653. It was a period of God's favor upon them.

  654. And Samuel was in the midst with God's word to the people.

  655. And it was blessed.

  656. But they had gone away.

  657. And as someone puts it in one of the commentaries,

  658. He says,

  659. The reappearing of Samuel here in chapter 7

  660. Is a reappearing of fresh grace from God.

  661. The people who have been lost and despondent

  662. And not knowing what to do with the presence of God in their midst,

  663. Samuel comes to give them direction.

  664. Samuel comes to show them their need of God's mercy.

  665. So that's what he says in verse 3.

  666. The people have been lamenting after the Lord,

  667. But not repenting.

  668. And Samuel comes and calls to them and says,

  669. If all the house of Israel,

  670. If you are returning to the Lord your God with all your heart,

  671. Then put away the foreign gods and the asterisk from among you

  672. And direct your hearts to the Lord and serve Him only.

  673. This is a call to repentance.

  674. It's a turning away from the idols that they have

  675. And turning back to God.

  676. And that's the heart of repentance.

  677. Turning from one thing to another.

  678. The Shorter Catechism puts it like this,

  679. Repentance unto life is a saving grace,

  680. Whereby a sinner,

  681. Out of a true sense of his sin

  682. And apprehension of the mercy of God in Christ,

  683. Doth with grief and hatred

  684. Turn from,

  685. Of his sin,

  686. Turn from it unto God

  687. With full purpose of

  688. And endeavour after new obedience.

  689. It's about turning with hatred of sin,

  690. Turning to God.

  691. And that's the call

  692. That Samuel is giving to the people here.

  693. Turn from your idols,

  694. Turn from your false gods,

  695. And come to God.

  696. Pour out,

  697. Direct your heart

  698. To the Lord

  699. And serve Him only.

  700. And He will deliver you

  701. Out of the hands

  702. Of the Philistines.

  703. Lamenting for 20 years

  704. Is not hating sin

  705. And turning from it.

  706. Repenting

  707. Is turning from sin

  708. And looking to God.

  709. And that's the call

  710. That Samuel's putting out

  711. To the people here.

  712. Confess your sins

  713. Towards God.

  714. And it's not easy.

  715. It's not easy for them.

  716. It's not easy for us.

  717. It's not an easy thing to do.

  718. It doesn't come naturally

  719. To come and bow the knee

  720. Before God.

  721. Because we think we can manage

  722. By ourselves.

  723. But a realization of sin

  724. Is a realization of

  725. Who God is.

  726. And what our sin

  727. Deserves.

  728. And Samuel here

  729. Is calling them

  730. To see the mercy of God

  731. That is on offer.

  732. So the first step

  733. Is so often

  734. As for many people

  735. To acknowledge

  736. Our sin.

  737. To acknowledge

  738. Where we are going wrong.

  739. To acknowledge

  740. That we need help.

  741. There is a man

  742. By the name of

  743. Kenny Sampson.

  744. Some of you

  745. If you're interested

  746. In football

  747. You may be familiar

  748. With him.

  749. He used to play

  750. For England.

  751. He played in the 1986

  752. World Cup.

  753. He used to play

  754. For Arsenal.

  755. But for many years

  756. He was struggling

  757. With an addiction.

  758. An addiction

  759. To alcohol.

  760. And there was

  761. A program on about him

  762. Just a few years ago.

  763. And there were

  764. So many people

  765. Just wanting to help him

  766. Trying to love him

  767. Trying to be there

  768. For him

  769. Trying to show him

  770. That he needed help.

  771. But he just

  772. Wouldn't listen.

  773. And it was such

  774. A sad program.

  775. And at the end of it

  776. The interviewer

  777. Speaking to him

  778. Telling him

  779. You know you've got

  780. Such a beautiful family

  781. You've got so many

  782. Friends around you

  783. You stand

  784. To lose it all

  785. If you don't stop.

  786. And his response was

  787. I won't stop drinking.

  788. It was such a sad picture.

  789. He wouldn't stop.

  790. But just a couple of weeks ago

  791. I was reading about him.

  792. And he's been sober

  793. For two years.

  794. People didn't give up.

  795. People continued

  796. To look out for him

  797. And tried to help him.

  798. And eventually

  799. He acknowledged

  800. He needed help.

  801. And he got the help

  802. He needed.

  803. Now Samuel here

  804. Is addressing a problem.

  805. A problem

  806. Not just like an addiction

  807. Like Kenny Samson had

  808. But a problem

  809. That we all have.

  810. A problem that we all

  811. Have to acknowledge.

  812. That we are all sinners

  813. In need of mercy

  814. From the Lord Jesus Christ.

  815. To put away

  816. The idols.

  817. To put away

  818. The things

  819. That we are addicted to

  820. That keep us

  821. From having a right

  822. Relationship with God

  823. And turning to him

  824. Instead.

  825. So Samuel comes

  826. With this fresh grace

  827. This call

  828. To realize

  829. Their need of mercy

  830. From God.

  831. But then it goes on

  832. And what we see is

  833. Samuel speaks then

  834. Of an experience

  835. Of God's mercy.

  836. And how they experience

  837. God's mercy

  838. In such a wonderful way.

  839. And you see that

  840. In verse 5

  841. Through to verse 11.

  842. Samuel gathers

  843. The people together.

  844. Look at verse 5.

  845. It says

  846. Then Samuel said

  847. Gather all Israel

  848. At Mizpah

  849. And I will pray

  850. To the Lord

  851. For you.

  852. All the people

  853. Recognizing

  854. That they have

  855. Fallen short of God

  856. That they need

  857. God's mercy

  858. They come together

  859. With Samuel

  860. At Mizpah

  861. And he says

  862. I will pray

  863. For you.

  864. And look at the response

  865. Of the people

  866. In verse 6.

  867. So they gathered

  868. At Mizpah

  869. And drew water

  870. And poured it out

  871. Before the Lord

  872. And fasted on that day

  873. And said there

  874. We have sinned

  875. Against the Lord.

  876. There is this

  877. Acknowledgement.

  878. There is this

  879. Realization

  880. We have sinned

  881. Against God.

  882. But Samuel

  883. Comes with a plea

  884. For the people.

  885. He is praying

  886. For them.

  887. And the plea

  888. For help

  889. In the midst

  890. Of the plea

  891. For help

  892. The wonder is

  893. That God

  894. Is there to help.

  895. It's not always

  896. An easy path

  897. As you see

  898. As it goes on here.

  899. And sometimes

  900. It's a path

  901. That leads us

  902. To be afraid

  903. And wonder

  904. Just what way

  905. To go

  906. And what to do.

  907. And you see that

  908. In verse 7.

  909. They acknowledge

  910. They have sinned

  911. Against God.

  912. But

  913. And Samuel

  914. Judged the people

  915. There.

  916. That means he brought

  917. The word of God

  918. To them.

  919. But then in verse 7.

  920. Now when the Philistines

  921. Heard that the people

  922. Of Israel

  923. Had gathered at Mizpah

  924. The lords of the Philistines

  925. Went up against Israel.

  926. And when the people

  927. Of Israel

  928. Heard of it

  929. They were afraid

  930. Of the Philistines.

  931. What's their response

  932. When they hear?

  933. They're afraid.

  934. And so often

  935. When we come

  936. Before God

  937. And acknowledge

  938. Our sin

  939. It leaves us

  940. Afraid.

  941. And another thing

  942. It does

  943. Is just like

  944. When the people

  945. Of Israel

  946. Here gathered

  947. And the Philistines

  948. Heard about it

  949. And they gathered

  950. To come

  951. And fight

  952. Against them again

  953. When we show

  954. An interest

  955. In the things

  956. Of God

  957. When we begin

  958. To realize

  959. And acknowledge

  960. Our sin

  961. And say before God

  962. We have sinned

  963. Against you

  964. There is an enemy

  965. That will attack

  966. As well

  967. The devil

  968. When he sees

  969. Someone interested

  970. In the things

  971. Of God

  972. He will come

  973. And fight

  974. That battle

  975. To take you back

  976. He doesn't want

  977. To lose any

  978. To God

  979. And so the battle

  980. Will go on

  981. And the struggle

  982. Will be real

  983. And it may leave

  984. You a sense

  985. Of fear

  986. Afraid

  987. What am I doing

  988. How can I go on

  989. In my own strength

  990. How can I keep going

  991. I'm not up

  992. For this battle

  993. And that's why

  994. It's so important

  995. To realize

  996. It's so important

  997. The experience

  998. Of God's mercy

  999. That the children

  1000. Of Israel

  1001. Enjoyed here

  1002. They cried

  1003. To Samuel

  1004. And said

  1005. Do not cease

  1006. To cry out

  1007. To the Lord

  1008. Your God

  1009. For us

  1010. And so Samuel

  1011. Continued

  1012. To pray

  1013. He offered up

  1014. A sacrifice

  1015. And as he did

  1016. What happened

  1017. God came

  1018. To the people

  1019. And you

  1020. He showed

  1021. Them mercy

  1022. The Philistines

  1023. Threw near

  1024. It says

  1025. In verse 10

  1026. But the Lord

  1027. Thundered

  1028. With a mighty

  1029. Sound

  1030. That day

  1031. The Lord

  1032. Is greater

  1033. The Lord

  1034. Is mighty

  1035. To save

  1036. The Lord

  1037. Is on your side

  1038. As you put

  1039. Your trust

  1040. In him

  1041. You will

  1042. Be afraid

  1043. We will all

  1044. Be afraid

  1045. At times

  1046. We will all

  1047. Struggle

  1048. At times

  1049. But to remember

  1050. The Lord

  1051. Is on our side

  1052. The Lord

  1053. Is with you

  1054. And that is what

  1055. The people

  1056. Were again

  1057. Realizing here

  1058. And that is what

  1059. We are to realize

  1060. For ourselves

  1061. As well

  1062. The Lord

  1063. Revived his people

  1064. And the Lord

  1065. Revived his protection

  1066. Over them

  1067. Samuel

  1068. They call

  1069. To him

  1070. To help

  1071. Them

  1072. We don't

  1073. Call

  1074. On Samuel

  1075. Today

  1076. But who do

  1077. We call

  1078. On

  1079. In the midst

  1080. Of all

  1081. Our doubts

  1082. And fears

  1083. And anxieties

  1084. Of going

  1085. Forward

  1086. For the Lord

  1087. Who do we

  1088. Call on

  1089. We look

  1090. To Jesus

  1091. We call

  1092. On him

  1093. We call

  1094. On him

  1095. Who gave

  1096. Himself

  1097. For us

  1098. We come

  1099. In prayer

  1100. To him

  1101. And he

  1102. Hears

  1103. Your prayer

  1104. And he

  1105. Is able

  1106. To thunder

  1107. Out

  1108. Just like

  1109. The Lord

  1110. Did here

  1111. He is able

  1112. To protect

  1113. You

  1114. He is able

  1115. To keep

  1116. You

  1117. He will

  1118. Shield

  1119. You

  1120. He will

  1121. Never

  1122. Leave

  1123. You

  1124. That is

  1125. The great

  1126. Promise

  1127. We will

  1128. All have

  1129. These doubts

  1130. All have

  1131. These anxieties

  1132. But we can

  1133. Take them

  1134. To the Lord

  1135. In prayer

  1136. If you have

  1137. Ever read

  1138. The book

  1139. Pilgrim's

  1140. Progress

  1141. This will

  1142. Be familiar

  1143. To you

  1144. If you have

  1145. Never read

  1146. It do

  1147. Read it

  1148. Because it

  1149. Speaks so

  1150. Much of

  1151. The Christian's

  1152. Journey

  1153. Of carrying

  1154. This great

  1155. Weight

  1156. Of sin

  1157. On our

  1158. Back

  1159. And the

  1160. Way

  1161. The journey

  1162. Takes so

  1163. Many twists

  1164. And turns

  1165. And there is

  1166. One point

  1167. In the book

  1168. Where John

  1169. Bunyan wrote

  1170. Speaking of

  1171. Christian

  1172. And a

  1173. Friend he has

  1174. With him

  1175. Hopeful

  1176. And once

  1177. Again

  1178. They have

  1179. Taken a

  1180. Deed

  1181. Through

  1182. Of the

  1183. Right

  1184. Path

  1185. And they have

  1186. Ended up

  1187. In a

  1188. Place

  1189. Called

  1190. Doubting

  1191. Castle

  1192. And everything

  1193. In this

  1194. Book

  1195. It just

  1196. Relates

  1197. To so

  1198. Many

  1199. Experiences

  1200. We have

  1201. On the

  1202. Christian

  1203. Journey

  1204. And

  1205. Christians

  1206. Will have

  1207. Doubts

  1208. There will

  1209. Be times

  1210. When we are

  1211. Afflicted

  1212. With doubts

  1213. But what

  1214. Do we do

  1215. In these

  1216. Times

  1217. Well

  1218. In this

  1219. Book

  1220. Christian

  1221. And hopeful

  1222. Are in

  1223. Doubting

  1224. Castle

  1225. And the

  1226. Owner of

  1227. The castle

  1228. Is called

  1229. Giant

  1230. Despair

  1231. And his

  1232. Wife

  1233. Is a

  1234. Scary

  1235. Woman

  1236. Too

  1237. And they're

  1238. Locked up

  1239. Here

  1240. And they're

  1241. Suffering

  1242. There

  1243. They're being

  1244. Tortured

  1245. There

  1246. And then

  1247. They turn

  1248. To God

  1249. In prayer

  1250. And as

  1251. They're

  1252. Praying

  1253. Christian

  1254. Remembers

  1255. That he was

  1256. Given a

  1257. Key

  1258. Before

  1259. On this

  1260. Journey

  1261. And he

  1262. Has this

  1263. Key in

  1264. His

  1265. Pocket

  1266. And this

  1267. Key is

  1268. Called

  1269. Promise

  1270. And what

  1271. The key

  1272. Does

  1273. Is it

  1274. Unlocks

  1275. Every door

  1276. For them

  1277. To get

  1278. Out of

  1279. Doubting

  1280. Castle

  1281. Back

  1282. Onto

  1283. The right

  1284. Path

  1285. Every way

  1286. Is opened

  1287. Up

  1288. And it's

  1289. Just a

  1290. Reminder

  1291. To us

  1292. That the

  1293. Lord has

  1294. Given us

  1295. Promise

  1296. Promise

  1297. That he

  1298. Will help

  1299. Promise

  1300. That he

  1301. Will be

  1302. With us

  1303. And so

  1304. As we

  1305. Go through

  1306. Life

  1307. As we

  1308. Go on

  1309. This

  1310. Journey

  1311. And as

  1312. We take

  1313. Maybe the

  1314. Wrong turns

  1315. At different

  1316. Places

  1317. And as

  1318. We suffer

  1319. In different

  1320. Ways

  1321. Take it

  1322. To the

  1323. Lord

  1324. In prayer

  1325. And remember

  1326. All his

  1327. Promises

  1328. And so

  1329. You have

  1330. This

  1331. Call

  1332. To

  1333. Mercy

  1334. You have

  1335. This

  1336. Experience

  1337. Of

  1338. Mercy

  1339. Then thirdly

  1340. And finally

  1341. We have

  1342. This

  1343. Remembrance

  1344. Of

  1345. Mercy

  1346. How

  1347. Forgetful

  1348. We are

  1349. As a

  1350. People

  1351. How often

  1352. And how

  1353. Easily

  1354. We forget

  1355. So much

  1356. We forget

  1357. The Lord's

  1358. Marshes

  1359. We forget

  1360. What the

  1361. Lord has

  1362. Done for

  1363. Us

  1364. How he's

  1365. Helped

  1366. Us

  1367. So many

  1368. Different

  1369. Times

  1370. And yet

  1371. Here we

  1372. See

  1373. Samuel

  1374. Put a

  1375. Reminder

  1376. Down

  1377. For the

  1378. People

  1379. He took

  1380. A stone

  1381. In verse

  1382. 12

  1383. And set

  1384. It up

  1385. Between

  1386. Misbah

  1387. And called

  1388. His name

  1389. Ebenezer

  1390. For he

  1391. Said

  1392. Till now

  1393. The Lord

  1394. Has

  1395. Held

  1396. Us

  1397. Hither

  1398. To

  1399. The Lord

  1400. Has

  1401. Held

  1402. Us

  1403. What a

  1404. Wonderful

  1405. Remembrance

  1406. They have

  1407. Hither

  1408. To

  1409. The Lord

  1410. Has

  1411. Held

  1412. Us

  1413. It stands

  1414. There before

  1415. Them as a

  1416. Constant

  1417. Reminder

  1418. The Lord

  1419. Has

  1420. Blessed

  1421. Us

  1422. The Lord

  1423. Has

  1424. Been

  1425. With

  1426. Us

  1427. The Lord

  1428. Has

  1429. Been

  1430. Faithful

  1431. To

  1432. Us

  1433. Help

  1434. Us

  1435. To

  1436. Be

  1437. Faithful

  1438. To

  1439. Him

  1440. When

  1441. They

  1442. Looked

  1443. At

  1444. This

  1445. Stone

  1446. They

  1447. Were

  1448. Reminded

  1449. Of

  1450. Two

  1451. Things

  1452. They

  1453. Are

  1454. Reminded

  1455. Of

  1456. The

  1457. Way

  1458. That

  1459. They

  1460. Had

  1461. Forgot

  1462. God

  1463. Of

  1464. How

  1465. They

  1466. Disobeyed

  1467. God

  1468. Going

  1469. Back

  1470. The

  1471. Stone

  1472. Is

  1473. Called

  1474. Ebenezer

  1475. You

  1476. Go

  1477. Back

  1478. To

  1479. Chapter

  1480. 4

  1481. The

  1482. Very

  1483. Place

  1484. That

  1485. They

  1486. Disobeyed

  1487. God

  1488. Was

  1489. Called

  1490. Ebenezer

  1491. So

  1492. It's

  1493. A

  1494. Reminder

  1495. To

  1496. Them

  1497. They

  1498. Have

  1499. Done

  1500. Wrong

  1501. Against

  1502. God

  1503. But

  1504. That

  1505. Wasn't

  1506. The

  1507. Only

  1508. Reminder

  1509. You

  1510. See

  1511. The

  1512. Second

  1513. Reminder

  1514. Was

  1515. That

  1516. God

  1517. Had

  1518. Showed

  1519. Marshy

  1520. God

  1521. Had

  1522. Helped

  1523. And

  1524. So

  1525. This

  1526. Stone

  1527. As

  1528. It

  1529. Reminded

  1530. Them

  1531. Of

  1532. Their

  1533. Weakness

  1534. It

  1535. Reminded

  1536. Of

  1537. Them

  1538. Strength

  1539. God

  1540. Hitherto

  1541. The

  1542. Lord

  1543. Has

  1544. Helped

  1545. Us

  1546. For

  1547. Ourselves

  1548. Today

  1549. Do

  1550. We

  1551. Have

  1552. A

  1553. Stone

  1554. Of

  1555. Remembrance

  1556. Well we

  1557. Sang

  1558. In

  1559. Psalm

  1560. 118

  1561. And

  1562. There

  1563. It

  1564. Mentions

  1565. A

  1566. Stone

  1567. It

  1568. Says

  1569. The

  1570. Stone

  1571. The

  1572. Builders

  1573. Rejected

  1574. Has

  1575. Become

  1576. The

  1577. Cornerstone

  1578. And

  1579. What

  1580. Is

  1581. The

  1582. Stone

  1583. That

  1584. That

  1585. Psalm

  1586. Is

  1587. Speaking

  1588. About

  1589. It

  1590. Reminding

  1591. Us

  1592. Of

  1593. The

  1594. Stone

  1595. Who

  1596. Is

  1597. Our

  1598. Help

  1599. The

  1600. Lord

  1601. Jesus

  1602. Christ

  1603. A

  1604. Stone

  1605. For

  1606. His

  1607. People

  1608. A

  1609. Stone

  1610. That

  1611. Is

  1612. A

  1613. Rock

  1614. That

  1615. Nothing

  1616. Will

  1617. Defeat

  1618. Nothing

  1619. Will

  1620. Put

  1621. Down

  1622. It

  1623. Is

  1624. The

  1625. Rock

  1626. Of

  1627. Salvation

  1628. The

  1629. Lord

  1630. Jesus

  1631. Christ

  1632. So

  1633. Why

  1634. Are

  1635. We

  1636. Looking

  1637. At

  1638. This

  1639. Passage

  1640. Today

  1641. Well

  1642. A

  1643. Fortnight

  1644. From

  1645. Now

  1646. We

  1647. Will

  1648. Gather

  1649. Just

  1650. As

  1651. The

  1652. People

  1653. Here

  1654. Were

  1655. Reminded

  1656. Of

  1657. Their

  1658. Sin

  1659. And

  1660. Of

  1661. The

  1662. Mercy

  1663. Of

  1664. God

  1665. So

  1666. We

  1667. Will

  1668. Be

  1669. Reminded

  1670. And

  1671. Remember

  1672. The

  1673. Mercy

  1674. Of

  1675. God

  1676. To

  1677. Us

  1678. As

  1679. We

  1680. Take

  1681. Communion

  1682. Together

  1683. Maybe

  1684. Now

  1685. I

  1686. Hope

  1687. We

  1688. Are

  1689. All

  1690. Thinking

  1691. What

  1692. Does

  1693. That

  1694. Mean

  1695. For

  1696. Me

  1697. When

  1698. We

  1699. Think

  1700. Of

  1701. The

  1702. People

  1703. Here

  1704. Lamenting

  1705. For

  1706. Twenty

  1707. Years

  1708. They

  1709. Came

  1710. To

  1711. The

  1712. Point

  1713. Where

  1714. They

  1715. Realized

  1716. I

  1717. Have

  1718. Sinned

  1719. Against

  1720. God

  1721. And

  1722. Even

  1723. In

  1724. All

  1725. Their

  1726. Fears

  1727. And

  1728. Worries

  1729. They

  1730. They

  1731. They

  1732. They

  1733. They

  1734. Were

  1735. And

  1736. That

  1737. Is

  1738. The

  1739. Great

  1740. Reminder

  1741. For

  1742. Us

  1743. At

  1744. The

  1745. Cross

  1746. Too

  1747. As

  1748. We

  1749. See

  1750. The

  1751. Bread

  1752. And

  1753. The

  1754. Wine

  1755. They

  1756. Are

  1757. Reminders

  1758. To

  1759. Us

  1760. To

  1761. Remember

  1762. What

  1763. The

  1764. Lord

  1765. Jesus

  1766. Christ

  1767. Has

  1768. Done

  1769. For

  1770. Us

  1771. Because

  1772. As

  1773. We

  1774. Look

  1775. To

  1776. The

  1777. Cross

  1778. Just

  1779. Like

  1780. The

  1781. People

  1782. Were

  1783. Reminded

  1784. Of

  1785. Their

  1786. Sin

  1787. Here

  1788. And

  1789. The

  1790. Mercy

  1791. Of

  1792. God

  1793. So

  1794. As

  1795. We

  1796. Look

  1797. To

  1798. The

  1799. Cross

  1800. We

  1801. Are

  1802. Reminded

  1803. Of

  1804. Our

  1805. Sin

  1806. That

  1807. Put

  1808. Our

  1809. Savior

  1810. There

  1811. How

  1812. Far

  1813. Short

  1814. We

  1815. Fall

  1816. Of

  1817. His

  1818. Glory

  1819. And

  1820. What

  1821. He

  1822. Had

  1823. To

  1824. Do

  1825. For

  1826. His

  1827. People

  1828. To

  1829. Bear

  1830. Our

  1831. Sins

  1832. On

  1833. The

  1834. Cross

  1835. It

  1836. Reminds

  1837. Us

  1838. Of

  1839. Our

  1840. Sin

  1841. But

  1842. More

  1843. Than

  1844. That

  1845. It

  1846. Reminds

  1847. Us

  1848. Of

  1849. The

  1850. Mercy

  1851. Of

  1852. God

  1853. That

  1854. Whoever

  1855. Believes

  1856. In

  1857. Him

  1858. Will

  1859. Not

  1860. Perish

  1861. But

  1862. Have

  1863. Everlasting

  1864. Life

  1865. We

  1866. Have

  1867. A

  1868. Remembrance

  1869. Ourselves

  1870. A

  1871. Remembrance

  1872. Stone

  1873. And

  1874. That

  1875. Stone

  1876. Is

  1877. The

  1878. Lord

  1879. Jesus

  1880. Christ

  1881. And

  1882. If

  1883. You

  1884. Could

  1885. Say

  1886. Today

  1887. Till

  1888. Now

  1889. The

  1890. Lord

  1891. Has

  1892. Helped

  1893. Us

  1894. Till

  1895. Now

  1896. The

  1897. Lord

  1898. Has

  1899. Helped

  1900. Me

  1901. Should

  1902. You

  1903. Not

  1904. Be

  1905. Coming

  1906. With

  1907. All

  1908. Your

  1909. Heart

  1910. To

  1911. Worship

  1912. God

  1913. And

  1914. To

  1915. Do

  1916. This

  1917. In

  1918. Remembrance

  1919. Of

  1920. Him

  1921. To

  1922. Show

  1923. I

  1924. Love

  1925. The

  1926. Lord

  1927. Because

  1928. My

  1929. Voice

  1930. And

  1931. Prayers

  1932. Heeded

  1933. Hear

  1934. The

  1935. People

  1936. Here

  1937. They

  1938. Were

  1939. Given

  1940. This

  1941. Reminder

  1942. A

  1943. Constant

  1944. Reminder

  1945. That

  1946. Would

  1947. Say

  1948. To

  1949. Them

  1950. Every

  1951. Time

  1952. They

  1953. Saw

  1954. It

  1955. Till

  1956. Now

  1957. The

  1958. Lord

  1959. Has

  1960. Helped

  1961. Us

  1962. And

  1963. So

  1964. We

  1965. Too

  1966. Will

  1967. Gather

  1968. In

  1969. Remembrance

  1970. Of

  1971. What

  1972. The

  1973. Lord

  1974. Has

  1975. Done

  1976. And

  1977. That

  1978. We

  1979. Will

  1980. Be

  1981. Able

  1982. To

  1983. Say

  1984. With

  1985. All

  1986. God's

  1987. People

  1988. Hitherto

  1989. The

  1990. Lord

  1991. Has

  1992. Helped

  1993. Me

  1994. And

  1995. That

  1996. We

  1997. Would

  1998. Acknowledge

  1999. That

  2000. And

  2001. Bow

  2002. The

  2003. Knee

  2004. Before

  2005. Him

  2006. In

  2007. Worship

  2008. Not

  2009. Lamenting

  2010. Not

  2011. Just

  2012. Feeling

  2013. Sorry

  2014. For

  2015. The

  2016. Way

  2017. You

  2018. Wronged

  2019. God

  2020. But

  2021. Repenting

  2022. Knowing

  2023. The

  2024. Need

  2025. Of

  2026. His

  2027. Mercy

  2028. And

  2029. Coming

  2030. Before

  2031. Him

  2032. Crying

  2033. Out

  2034. For

  2035. Help

  2036. Experiencing

  2037. His

  2038. Mercy

  2039. Experiencing

  2040. His

  2041. Help

  2042. In

  2043. Time

  2044. Of

  2045. Doubts

  2046. And

  2047. Fears

  2048. And

  2049. Times

  2050. Of

  2051. Worry

  2052. Times

  2053. Of

  2054. Need

  2055. And

  2056. In

  2057. All

  2058. Of

  2059. That

  2060. Coming

  2061. To

  2062. Rejoice

  2063. In

  2064. Remembering

  2065. The

  2066. God

  2067. Who

  2068. Is

  2069. Faithful

  2070. And

  2071. The

  2072. One

  2073. Who

  2074. Has

  2075. Done

  2076. All

  2077. For

  2078. Us

  2079. May

  2080. He

  2081. Have

  2082. Mercy

  2083. On

  2084. Us

  2085. As

  2086. His

  2087. People

  2088. And

  2089. Help

  2090. Us

  2091. To

  2092. Look

  2093. To

  2094. Him

  2095. As

  2096. The

  2097. Rock

  2098. Of

  2099. Salvation

  2100. And

  2101. Put

  2102. Our

  2103. Trust

  2104. In

  2105. Him

  2106. Let

  2107. Us

  2108. Pray

  2109. Our

  2110. Father

  2111. In

  2112. Heaven

  2113. We

  2114. Do

  2115. Rejoice

  2116. In

  2117. The

  2118. Gospel

  2119. And

  2120. How

  2121. It

  2122. Speaks

  2123. To

  2124. Us

  2125. Lord

  2126. It

  2127. Reminds

  2128. Us

  2129. Of

  2130. Our

  2131. Great

  2132. Need

  2133. For

  2134. We

  2135. Have

  2136. Sinned

  2137. And

  2138. Fall

  2139. Short

  2140. Of

  2141. The

  2142. Glory

  2143. Of

  2144. God

  2145. But

  2146. We

  2147. Thank

  2148. You

  2149. To

  2150. That

  2151. It

  2152. Points

  2153. Us

  2154. Towards

  2155. A

  2156. Merciful

  2157. Saviour

  2158. One

  2159. Who

  2160. Has

  2161. Done

  2162. All

  2163. For

  2164. His

  2165. People

  2166. And

  2167. One

  2168. Who

  2169. We

  2170. Can

  2171. Call

  2172. Upon

  2173. In

  2174. All

  2175. Our

  2176. Times

  2177. Of

  2178. Need

  2179. And

  2180. So be

  2181. With

  2182. Us

  2183. In

  2184. All

  2185. Of

  2186. These

  2187. Things

  2188. And

  2189. Help

  2190. Us

  2191. To

  2192. Look

  2193. To

  2194. You

  2195. And

  2196. Find

  2197. Our

  2198. Strength

  2199. In

  2200. You

  2201. As

  2202. We

  2203. Ask

  2204. It

  2205. In

  2206. Jesus

  2207. Name

  2208. Amen

  2209. We'll

  2210. conclude

  2211. Our

  2212. Worship

  2213. By

  2214. Singing

  2215. To

  2216. God's

  2217. Praise

  2218. In

  2219. Psalm

  2220. 54

  2221. This

  2222. Is

  2223. The

  2226. Version

  2227. On

  2228. Page

  2229. 71

  2230. We'll

  2231. Sing

  2232. From

  2234. 4

  2235. To

  2236. The

  2237. End

  2238. Of

  2239. The

  2240. Psalm

  2241. Consider

  2242. This

  2243. God

  2244. Is

  2245. My

  2246. Help

  2247. The

  2248. Lord

  2249. Upholds

  2250. My

  2251. Way

  2252. And

  2253. Faithfulness

  2254. Destroy

  2255. My

  2256. Foes

  2257. Their

  2258. Slander

  2259. Lord

  2260. Repay

  2261. I'll

  2262. Sacrifice

  2263. I'll

  2264. Bring

  2265. A

  2267. To

  2268. You

  2269. A

  2270. Free

  2271. Will

  2272. Offering

  2273. Because

  2274. Your

  2275. Name

  2276. O

  2277. Lord

  2278. Is

  2279. Good

  2280. Your

  2290. To

  2291. 7

  2292. To

  2293. God's

  2297. Torwood

  2298. God

  2299. To

  2300. Consider

  2301. This

  2302. God

  2303. Is

  2304. My

  2305. Hell

  2306. The

  2344. Sing

  2345. For

  2346. You

  2347. O

  2349. I

  2350. Rescued

  2351. Me

  2352. From
