  1. We're going to begin our worship now singing in Psalm 93, Psalm number 93, and sing Psalms.

  2. That's on page 123 to the tune Argyle. We're going to sing the whole of this psalm.

  3. The Lord is King, His throne endures majestic in its height. The Lord is robed in majesty and armed

  4. with strength and might. The world is founded firm and sure, removed it cannot be. Your throne

  5. is strong and you are God from all eternity. We're singing these verses in acknowledgement

  6. of God being our Lord and our King, sitting on His throne, presiding over all that takes

  7. place in His creation, the one to whom we are due to worship and also answerable to Him.

  8. The Lord is King, His throne endures. We'll stand to sing.

  9. The Lord is King, His throne endures majestic in its height. The Lord is robed in majesty and armed with strength and

  10. strength and might. The Lord is founded firm and sure, removed it cannot be. Your throne is

  11. strong and new and strong. And you are God from all eternity. The seas, O Lord, have lifted up,

  12. the seas, O Lord, have lifted up, they lifted up their voice. The seas, O Lord, have lifted up,

  13. they lifted up their voice. The seas, O Lord, have lifted up their wings, and made a mighty noise. The Lord, have lifted up,

  14. And made a mighty noise

  15. The Lord enthroned on highest throne

  16. More powerful is He

  17. And that met all the oceans waves

  18. Are breakers of the sea

  19. Your royal statutes, Lord, stand firm

  20. And changeliness your world

  21. And holiness adorns your house

  22. For endless days, O Lord

  23. We're going to call on the Lord now in prayer

  24. Let's join together in prayer

  25. O Lord, our gracious God

  26. We are conscious that You have given us

  27. So many details in Your Word

  28. That ought to guide our minds

  29. As we come to worship You

  30. And among these we have been singing, Lord, of Your majesty

  31. And of the way in which You preside over Your creation

  32. We pray that that itself may affect our mind

  33. In such a way tonight that we come submissively

  34. And with delight and relish

  35. To come to exalt Your name

  36. And we thank You, O Lord

  37. That these words about You

  38. Reveal the truth about You

  39. And that everything You say about You

  40. Yourself and Your Word

  41. We can take to heart as Your own infallible truth

  42. And we thank You, Lord, that You have remembered us

  43. In such a way as to reveal Yourself to us in this way

  44. For every aspect of Your Word

  45. That has come to reveal the Lord to us

  46. And come to reveal to us what we are ourselves

  47. They are all designed that we should know You

  48. That we should come and fall down in adoration

  49. And in faith before You

  50. That we should come and possess eternal life

  51. Through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Your dear Son

  52. We bless You, Lord

  53. That tonight we have this renewed opportunity

  54. To add those things that are still required of us

  55. To know in our experience

  56. To add to our knowledge

  57. And to add to our level of commitment to You

  58. We pray, Lord, that You would increase our understanding

  59. We pray that You would deepen our faith

  60. Widen our love, we pray

  61. So that we may love as we have been loved

  62. And that we may consider, Lord

  63. That the pattern You have set for us

  64. In Your great love for Your people

  65. Is a pattern that in itself

  66. In its perfection

  67. Is such a great challenge to us

  68. But we thank You

  69. For Your grace that is promised to us each day

  70. The grace, Lord, that we pray for

  71. To enable us to meet and to fulfill

  72. Every task You have given us

  73. We pray for our worship to our worship

  74. And that we may know Your grace

  75. And that we may know Your grace

  76. And that we may know Your grace from day to day

  77. For Your grace itself is designed to fit with our need

  78. And we ask, Lord, that this grace of God

  79. This great power, this favor of God

  80. Which is so much spoken of in Your Word

  81. May truly be our delight this evening

  82. We ask, Lord, with bowed heads

  83. That we may know Your forgiveness

  84. Your acceptance of us

  85. We come to confess that we are not what we should be

  86. That we are not, Lord, what You designed us to be in the beginning

  87. That we are sinners

  88. That we need Your forgiveness

  89. Your cleansing

  90. Your uplifting out of the pit of sin

  91. That we need Your help daily in our struggles with sin

  92. Our struggles with ourselves and our fallenness

  93. Even, Lord, as Your redeemed people

  94. We acknowledge that we fail daily to meet the standard

  95. That we find in Your Word

  96. Standard that is so matchlessly portrayed for us

  97. In the humanity of our Lord Himself

  98. We bless You tonight, Lord

  99. That we have that ready access to You

  100. Through Your Word and Spirit

  101. We pray for Your Spirit to bless us

  102. Oh, Lord, we pray that we may never come to

  103. Even think reflectively or for a moment

  104. That we are somehow sufficient in ourselves

  105. To deal with those things that belong to our need

  106. That belong to Your requirement of us

  107. But we give thanks, Lord, that You are all that we require

  108. That we have everything in You that we need

  109. In order to live acceptably before You

  110. So, bless to us, we pray, our gathering here this evening

  111. Bless us in all our life as a congregation of Your people

  112. We give thanks for the many avenues of service

  113. That You provide for us, Lord, in this congregation

  114. We pray that all of them may be used to the full

  115. And we pray that You would grant us Your grace, Lord

  116. To fulfill in these activities

  117. Our desire to glorify Your name

  118. That we may see Your kingdom advance

  119. The congregation itself growing

  120. In the nurture and in the admonition of the Lord

  121. Even those of us who are adults

  122. We pray that You would help us, Lord

  123. To further enter into

  124. The expression of Your name

  125. In the world in which we live

  126. By the life that we live

  127. By the way that we speak

  128. By our very own thoughts, O Lord

  129. Remember tonight all the gatherings of Your people

  130. And we pray for them as they meet together as we do

  131. And as they have met throughout the world

  132. On this day, the Lord's day

  133. We thank You for the value

  134. That we place upon Your day

  135. For the way You have taught us, O Lord

  136. To regard this day in itself as significant

  137. And for the way that we recognize

  138. That You set it aside from the very creation

  139. To be a day that was different

  140. To the other days of each week

  141. And we thank You for the opportunities we have in it

  142. To know You

  143. And to increase our knowledge of You

  144. And our fellowship with one another

  145. Blessed to us, we pray, all the advantages we have

  146. In a Lord's day that comes about

  147. So regularly, week by week

  148. And we thank You, gracious one

  149. For all that Your day represents to Your people

  150. And for the way that we come to associate it

  151. With Your own resurrection from the dead

  152. For the way that we also see in it

  153. An anticipation of the eternal rest

  154. That You have provided for Your people

  155. That awaits them in heaven

  156. And we ask tonight anew

  157. As we come to give our mind

  158. To the great subject of resurrection

  159. And as we look towards that coming of the Lord

  160. And the resurrection of His people

  161. To be raised, to share with Him

  162. And to be with Him

  163. In that glory that is promised

  164. We pray, O Lord

  165. That You would strengthen our faith

  166. And give us to resist, we pray

  167. The many temptations we find in the world

  168. To disbelieve these things

  169. Give us, Lord, in the midst of all the

  170. Different species of thought that we come across

  171. That are contrary to Your Word

  172. That we may hold fast to Your own revealed Word

  173. That we may leave all its promises

  174. All its warnings, all its threatenings

  175. All the passages that come to comfort us, O Lord

  176. All the ones also that stir us up to remembrance

  177. Of the tremendous and stupendous fact

  178. Of Your judgment

  179. We ask, O Lord, that we may be

  180. All the more made wise unto salvation

  181. Bless, we pray, all the families belonging to us

  182. As a congregation tonight

  183. We ask that in all our homes

  184. We may know Your blessing

  185. We pray that You would grant to us, O Lord

  186. Your own guidance and Your own favor

  187. In all that we seek to do

  188. We pray for those tonight

  189. Who cannot be here physically

  190. We pray for them, Lord

  191. And especially those of them who are ill

  192. We pray for those in hospital

  193. And we pray for grace for them

  194. For the recovery

  195. And we give thanks, Lord

  196. For the news that we hear

  197. From time to time

  198. Of those who have been ill

  199. And those not only long-term ill

  200. But also those who more recently

  201. Were laid aside

  202. And sometimes unexpectedly

  203. And sometimes suddenly

  204. O Lord, bless them all

  205. We pray and bless their family

  206. And we give thanks again tonight

  207. For the measure of recovery

  208. For William Graham

  209. We pray that You would hear our prayers

  210. For him again

  211. And for Mordech

  212. And for their family, James

  213. And Damien

  214. We pray that his progress

  215. Will continue

  216. We give thanks to You, O Lord

  217. For the safe delivery

  218. Of Donnie and Teane's grandchild

  219. Even though it is such an early time

  220. In her mother's pregnancy

  221. We thank You for our safe delivery

  222. We pray for her

  223. And we pray that You would bless our Lord

  224. As the days go by

  225. And we pray that You would bless

  226. Kian and Alistair

  227. At this time as they celebrate

  228. Once again a child given of the Lord

  229. And continue to bless them, O Lord

  230. During this time

  231. We pray for those who mourn

  232. Who continue to miss loved ones

  233. Again, Lord, we ask that You would

  234. Console and comfort their hearts

  235. And we do commend them to You once again

  236. Whether it be recent bereavement

  237. Or times in the past

  238. Lord, we know that bereavement

  239. Continues to be a painful experience for us

  240. But we thank You for the way

  241. In which Your own comfort

  242. Is extended to us

  243. Through Your Spirit

  244. We ask, O Lord

  245. That we may now continue

  246. To wait upon You

  247. As we further our worship service here

  248. Bless us, we pray

  249. Throughout the week

  250. That we've entered upon

  251. Bless us as we anticipate, Lord

  252. The coronation of King Charles

  253. Later in this week

  254. We pray for him

  255. As You require us to do in Your Word

  256. We pray for himself

  257. And we pray for his spouse, Camilla

  258. Bless them, Lord, we pray

  259. At this important juncture

  260. Not only in their own lives

  261. But in the life of the nation

  262. And help us, Lord, we pray

  263. To bear them before You

  264. And we pray that he will come

  265. To be an influence for good

  266. Especially for Your own cause

  267. For the advance of Your kingdom

  268. That he will not be drawn aside

  269. To substitute the Lord

  270. With any other alternative

  271. To the Lord Jesus Christ

  272. As His King and His God

  273. And grant him, Lord, Your blessing

  274. As he awaits this important day

  275. And so go before us now

  276. We pray and bless all

  277. Who are in government over us

  278. In all parts of the land

  279. Lord, in these difficult, tumultuous days

  280. We pray for Your guidance

  281. We pray for Your mercy

  282. We pray for Your forgiveness

  283. For our many sins

  284. And the many ways

  285. In which we have departed

  286. From Your ways

  287. Return us, Lord, we pray

  288. How long?

  289. How long will it be

  290. Before we come

  291. Once again as a nation

  292. To be characterized

  293. By a love for Your truth

  294. Lord, hasten the day, we pray

  295. And come and hear

  296. The prayers of Your people

  297. As You hear them

  298. Come and answer

  299. And do so, Lord

  300. In a way that would

  301. Exceed our very expectation

  302. We pray all with the pardon

  303. Of our sin

  304. In Jesus' name

  305. Amen

  306. Let's sing again to God's praise

  307. In Psalm 90 this time

  308. Psalm number 90

  309. That's in the Scottish Psalter

  310. Page 350

  311. Singing verses 13 to 17

  312. The tune this time is Morvan

  313. Turn yet again to us, O Lord

  314. How long thus shall it be

  315. Let it repent Thee now

  316. For those that servants are to Thee

  317. O with Thy tender mercies, Lord

  318. As early satisfy

  319. So we rejoice shall all our days

  320. And still be glad in Thee

  321. These verses 13 to the end of the Psalm

  322. To God's praise

  323. Turn yet again to us, O Lord

  324. How long thou shall it be

  325. Let it repent Thee now

  326. Let it repent Thee now

  327. For those that servants are to Thee

  328. O with Thy tender mercies, Lord

  329. As early satisfy

  330. As early satisfy

  331. As early satisfy

  332. So we rejoice shall all our days

  333. And still be glad in Thee

  334. According to us Thee

  335. Thee days have been Wherein we grief have had

  336. And years wherein we ill have had

  337. So do thou make us cry

  338. So do thou make us cry

  339. O let thy work and part

  340. O let thy work and part

  341. O let thy work and part

  342. And shall our days

  343. And still be glad in thee

  344. We hope that we grief have had

  345. And still be glad in thee

  346. So do thou make us cry

  347. And shall ourgens

  348. before, and show unto their children dear thy glory evermore.

  349. And let the beauty of the Lord our God be us upon,

  350. our handy words establish love, establish them each one.

  351. Now we're reading two passages of God's Word this evening.

  352. Firstly, it's from the prophecy of Isaiah, chapter 25.

    Isaiah 25 chapter mention

  353. And we'll read the first 12 verses, or the whole chapter really, the 12 verses.

  354. And also 1 Corinthians 15, a few verses there which we'll turn to look at later in the service.

  355. First of all, Isaiah 25, reading from the beginning.

  356. O Lord, you are my God, I will exalt you, I will praise your name,

  357. for you have done wonderful things, plans formed of old, faithful, and sure.

  358. For you have made the city a heap, the fortified city a ruin.

  359. The foreigner's palace is a city no more.

  360. It will never be rebuilt.

  361. Therefore strong peoples will glorify you.

  362. Cities of ruthless nations will fear you.

  363. For you have been a stronghold to the poor, a stronghold to the needy in his distress,

  364. a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat.

  365. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm against a wall,

  366. like heat in a dry place.

  367. You subdue the noise of the foreigners as heat by the shade of a cloud.

  368. So the song of the ruthless is put down.

  369. On this mountain the Lord of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food,

  370. a feast of well-aged wine, of rich food full of marrow, of aged wine well refined.

  371. And he will swallow up on this mountain the covering that is cast over all peoples,

  372. the veil that is spread over all nations.

  373. He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces,

  374. and the reproach of his people he will take away from all the earth.

  375. For the Lord has spoken.

  376. It will be said on that day, Behold, this is our God.

  377. We have waited for him that he might save us.

  378. This is the Lord.

  379. We have waited for him.

  380. Let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation.

  381. For the hand of the Lord will rest on this mountain,

  382. and Moab shall be trampled down in his place,

  383. as straw is trampled down in a dunghill.

  384. And he will spread out his hands in the midst of it,

  385. as a swimmer spreads his hands out to swim.

  386. But the Lord will lay low his pompous pride,

  387. together with the skill of his hands.

  388. And the high fortifications of his walls he will bring down,

  389. lay low, and cast to the ground to the dust.

  390. We turn to 1 Corinthians chapter 15.

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  391. We'll read verses 50 to 58.

  392. I tell you, this brother's flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God,

  393. nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.

  394. Behold, I tell you a mystery.

  395. We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

  396. in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

  397. For the trumpet will sound,

  398. and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

  399. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable,

  400. and this mortal body must put on immortality.

  401. When the perishable puts on the imperishable,

  402. and the mortal puts on immortality,

  403. then shall come to pass the saying that is written,

  404. Death is swallowed up in victory.

  405. O death, where is your victory?

  406. O death, where is your sting?

  407. The sting of death is sin,

  408. and the power of sin is the law.

  409. But thanks be to God,

  410. who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  411. Therefore, my beloved brothers,

  412. be steadfast, immovable,

  413. always abounding in the work of the Lord,

  414. knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

  415. We pray God will follow with his blessing,

  416. that reading from his word.

  417. Let's sing once again before we come back to 1 Corinthians 15.

  418. This time it's Psalm 72.

  419. Psalm 72 from St. Psalms, page 92,

  420. verses 1 to 9.

  421. The tune this time is Duke Street.

  422. Endow the King with justice, Lord,

  423. the royal Son with righteousness.

  424. Your people, your afflicted ones,

  425. he'll judge with truth and uprightness.

  426. The mountains will bring peace to them,

  427. the hills the fruit of righteousness.

  428. He will defend and save the poor,

  429. and crush all those who them oppress.

  430. And so on, down as far as verse 9,

  431. Psalm 72.

  432. Endow the King with justice, Lord.

  433. The royal Son with righteousness.

  434. He'll judge with truth and uprightness.

  435. The mountains will bring peace to them,

  436. The hills, the fruit of righteousness

  437. He will defend and save the poor

  438. And crush all those who then will rest

  439. As long as sun and moon endure

  440. So will he live time without end

  441. He'll be like showers on the air

  442. Like reaps that on moon fields descend

  443. The righteous then will blossom forth

  444. Through earth is ever-lasting green

  445. Until the moon no longer shines

  446. Peace in abundance will remain

  447. From sea to sea he will hold sway

  448. And from the river to earth's end

  449. His enemies will lead the dust

  450. And deserts rise, the knee will end

  451. Well, let's turn once more to 1 Corinthians 15

  452. The passage we read from verse 50

  453. And tonight we're going to consider these verses

  454. Down as far as verse 57

  455. So that will leave us, God willing, one further study

  456. In this great chapter

  457. Dealing with the resurrection

  458. When we come next time, God willing, to look at verse 58

  459. Which really sums up and concludes

  460. Paul's treatment of the resurrection

  461. As a significant application of it

  462. As you find in verse 58

  463. So from verse 50, as we've read it through

  464. He's dealing here again with the resurrection

  465. But giving us some more details

  466. In addition to what we saw earlier

  467. Throughout the chapter

  468. Now one thing you notice here is very obvious

  469. And that he's talking here to brothers

  470. He's, of course, addressing the church in Corinth

  471. But all the way through here

  472. He's really dealing with the resurrection of the Lord's people

  473. And that's in keeping with what you find

  474. Mostly throughout Scripture

  475. Scripture has very little, actually, to do with

  476. The resurrection of the unsaved

  477. Because the overwhelming emphasis in the Bible

  478. Is on salvation

  479. On redemption from sin and from death

  480. As this passage itself is going to bring us through this evening

  481. And the emphasis on life and salvation

  482. Means that that's really what predominates

  483. That's what really gets the major part of Paul's treatment

  484. Throughout this chapter, indeed

  485. There is, of course, going to be a resurrection of the unsaved as well

  486. But it will be very different to the resurrection

  487. Not in kind, but in result

  488. To the resurrection of God's redeemed and saved people

  489. Jesus himself referred to that

  490. In chapter 5 of John's Gospel

  491. And at verse 29 there, 28-29

  492. He says, where he taught

  493. That God the Father has given the Son authority to execute judgment

  494. Because He is the Son of Man

  495. Do not marvel at this

  496. For an hour is coming when all who are in the tombs will hear His voice

  497. And come out

  498. Those who have done good to the resurrection of life

  499. And those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment

  500. Or to the resurrection of condemnation

  501. Which also is the meaning of the word there

  502. So that's giving us a very definite truth

  503. That God will bring all from the grave

  504. Whoever they are

  505. Whenever they have lived

  506. All shall come out of the graves

  507. Of the voice of the Son of God

  508. And you put that into line with the emphasis

  509. In this chapter of the coming of Christ Himself

  510. 1 Thessalonians 4 and other similar passages

  511. And so there is a resurrection of the unjust

  512. A resurrection of the unsaved as well

  513. We're not going to deal with that tonight

  514. It's part of the message of Scripture

  515. But as we say, the overwhelming emphasis

  516. Is on the resurrection of the saved

  517. Of God's people

  518. Why is that?

  519. Well, for one, that's what God has given the most emphasis to

  520. In His revelation of Himself to us

  521. He's not a God who's willing that any should die

  522. That any should perish

  523. But that all should come to repentance

  524. It's so that we'll come to see

  525. Our need of Jesus

  526. Our need of the salvation that's in Him

  527. Our need of the victory over sin and death

  528. That He has brought about and accomplished

  529. Through His own death and resurrection from the dead

  530. That's why you find this overwhelming emphasis in Scripture

  531. In God's revelation of salvation to us

  532. So that we'll come to the Jesus

  533. Who took our damnation to Himself

  534. Who took to Himself the death that we deserved for our sins

  535. And who therefore is presented to us as such

  536. As the Savior of His people

  537. And tonight as we go through this passage

  538. I trust that you and I will put to ourselves

  539. Once again, our need of the Savior

  540. Even if you're saved

  541. Even if you've been saved for many years

  542. I hope that through this passage tonight

  543. We will all come to an appreciation

  544. Of the greatness of Christ

  545. Of our need of Christ

  546. Of the wonder of life in Him

  547. For people who don't deserve it

  548. Such as we all are

  549. And that will come

  550. If we're not yet in Christ

  551. To really consider

  552. Even before we leave this place tonight

  553. That this is where you need to be found

  554. That this is where you want to be found

  555. That this is your concern

  556. And this is your desire

  557. To be found in Christ

  558. Not having a righteousness of your own

  559. So that you'll be like the apostle

  560. In his testimony in Philippians 3

  561. If by any means, he says

  562. I would attain to the resurrection of the dead

  563. Tonight that's surely your desire

  564. My desire

  565. That you will be part of those blessed ones

  566. Who will come to be raised at the coming of Christ

  567. To meet Him

  568. Triumphing in His salvation

  569. And not cringing before His condemnation

  570. Two things I want to look at

  571. First of all, the necessity

  572. Of a great change

  573. As the passage brings it out for us

  574. The necessity of a great change

  575. Verses 50 to 52

  576. Where he says

  577. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God

  578. Nor does the perishable inherit imperishable

  579. And then secondly

  580. We'll look at the features of this great change

  581. That God will bring about

  582. In the resurrection of His people

  583. Well, you'll find that in verses 53

  584. Down to verse 57

  585. So the necessity of a great change

  586. The change that will take place

  587. At the resurrection

  588. The change especially in our bodily condition

  589. And secondly

  590. The features of that great change

  591. What does it consist of?

  592. What is going to happen?

  593. And of course we do acknowledge

  594. That while we're following the words of Scripture there

  595. There are still many aspects of this truth

  596. That really elude us

  597. And are beyond our capacity

  598. To put into such words

  599. If you like as they deserve

  600. The necessity of a great change

  601. Well, look at what he says in verse 50

  602. I tell you this, brothers

  603. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God

  604. Nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable

  605. Now what does he mean by

  606. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God?

  607. Well, by flesh and blood

  608. He's certainly still focusing on the body

  609. But it also includes our present bodily existence

  610. In this world

  611. Even for us as Christians

  612. This present state of things

  613. This body in the present state of things

  614. Even though we are saved in Christ

  615. As we are as such prior to death

  616. We cannot inherit the kingdom of God

  617. The body we presently have

  618. The bodily life we presently live

  619. The body in which we live this life

  620. Is not itself capable of sustaining the fullness of life

  621. That is going to be the portion of God's people at the resurrection

  622. So flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God

  623. And you can see it's expanded where he says

  624. Nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable

  625. He used these words earlier, you recall as well

  626. The perishable that's raised in verse 42 there

  627. To be imperishable

  628. What he means by that is

  629. The body that we require to inhabit glory, if you like

  630. The life that we will have in glory

  631. This bodily life

  632. It will still be a life in the body spiritually

  633. Going back to previous studies

  634. But what he's saying now is that

  635. We need a body that is above the reach of decay

  636. The body we have just now is going to decay

  637. It's decaying already

  638. It's proceeding day by day towards returning to the dust

  639. And we cannot inherit the kingdom of God

  640. Therefore in that body it's perishable

  641. The perishable does not inherit the imperishable

  642. The necessity of resurrection

  643. The necessity of a great change

  644. Because what he's anticipating here as we'll go on in the study

  645. Is a life and a body in that life

  646. As well as our soul

  647. Remember that God has redeemed us as persons

  648. As living human beings

  649. And that means our body as well

  650. As our soul incorporated in the redemption that is in Christ

  651. Is not going to leave our bodies out of that salvation

  652. Is not going to have salvation that is just purely spirit only

  653. Or soul only

  654. He has redeemed our persons

  655. Body and soul together

  656. And while the body returns to the dust

  657. And the soul goes

  658. To be with God in heaven for God's people

  659. In anticipation of this day

  660. When the imperishable

  661. Will characterize the body that's raised

  662. From the dead

  663. We need to have

  664. A body that's set above

  665. The reach of death

  666. The reach of decay

  667. In other words

  668. A body that is suitable

  669. And qualified

  670. Under God

  671. For the fullness of life

  672. That heaven will be

  673. The fullness of life

  674. That Christ has purchased

  675. For the perishable

  676. Cannot inherit the imperishable

  677. Nor does flesh and blood

  678. Inherit the kingdom of God

  679. And he goes on

  680. From verse 51

  681. And 52

  682. To expand on that somewhat

  683. Behold I tell you a mystery

  684. We shall not all sleep

  685. But we shall all be changed

  686. In a moment

  687. In the twinkling of an eye

  688. At the last trumpet

  689. For the trumpet will sound

  690. And the dead will be raised

  691. Imperishable

  692. And we shall be changed

  693. For this perishable body

  694. Must put on the imperishable

  695. And this mortal body

  696. Must put on immortality

  697. We shall not all sleep

  698. But we shall all be changed

  699. What is that setting before us?

  700. Well it means really that

  701. When the Lord returns

  702. There will still be people

  703. And those of his own people

  704. Living in this world

  705. That have not died

  706. Whose bodies have not

  707. Returned to the dust

  708. In the grave

  709. We shall not all sleep

  710. Is what he means by that

  711. But we shall all be changed

  712. In a moment

  713. In the twinkling of an eye

  714. In other words

  715. He's saying

  716. The kind of change

  717. That takes place

  718. In the resurrection

  719. Of the bodies of God's people

  720. Will take place

  721. In the bodies

  722. Of those who are still living

  723. When the Lord returns

  724. Because they are still

  725. Perishable

  726. And subject to death

  727. They need a different

  728. Kind of body

  729. Set above death

  730. And that's going to happen

  731. When the Lord returns

  732. Even for those

  733. Who have not died

  734. And their bodies

  735. Return to the dust

  736. In the grave

  737. They shall be changed

  738. We shall all be changed

  739. We all need to have

  740. That change

  741. By which we come

  742. To inherit bodily

  743. The kingdom of God

  744. And you see what he's saying

  745. About it

  746. It will happen

  747. In a moment

  748. In the twinkling of an eye

  749. At the last trumpet

  750. So from that

  751. You and I cannot say tonight

  752. I've got plenty of time yet

  753. I'm still relatively young

  754. I can just relax

  755. And take my time

  756. And when I get nearer

  757. To my old age

  758. Then I'll be able to

  759. Seriously deal with

  760. The issues of eternity

  761. No he's saying

  762. The Lord is coming

  763. And we shall be changed

  764. In an instant

  765. It's going to take place

  766. In the twinkling of an eye

  767. There's change in our bodies

  768. In a moment

  769. In the twinkling of an eye

  770. At the last trumpet

  771. How long does it take

  772. For you to flick your eyelid

  773. To blink your eyes

  774. Well he's saying

  775. That's how quickly

  776. The change is going to come

  777. When the Lord returns

  778. By his power

  779. That's going to be

  780. Effected immediately

  781. We shall all be changed

  782. In a moment

  783. In the twinkling of an eye

  784. For he says

  785. The trumpet

  786. Will sound

  787. And the dead

  788. Will be raised

  789. Imperishable

  790. And we shall be changed

  791. The trumpet

  792. Will sound

  793. That's an interesting phrase

  794. Isn't it

  795. And there are two

  796. Places in scripture

  797. Where this kind of

  798. Emphasis on the trumpet

  799. Being sounded

  800. Is before us

  801. In the word of God

  802. First is at

  803. Mount Sinai

  804. Where there was

  805. An incredibly loud

  806. Blast

  807. Of trumpet

  808. Over which

  809. Moses himself

  810. Says

  811. As you read the

  812. Account in Hebrews 12

  813. I exceedingly

  814. Fear and quake

  815. Moses was a man

  816. Who was so near

  817. To God

  818. That he spoke with him

  819. Face to face

  820. There was nobody

  821. On earth

  822. That was

  823. At that time

  824. At least as near

  825. To God

  826. As familiar with God

  827. And knew the tremendous

  828. Majesty and greatness

  829. Of God

  830. The way Moses did

  831. And yet it's said

  832. Of him there

  833. That this trumpet blast

  834. On Mount Sinai

  835. Which signaled

  836. The arrival of the Lord

  837. Coming onto the mountain

  838. To set it on fire

  839. By his presence

  840. Gave Moses himself

  841. To fear

  842. And to quake

  843. It was such a tremendous

  844. Loud blast

  845. You see this blast

  846. Of the trumpet

  847. It's not

  848. It's an unearthly trumpet

  849. If you like

  850. It's not somebody

  851. Taking a normal

  852. Musical instrument

  853. Or even a hundred

  854. Of these musical

  855. Instruments trumpets

  856. This is a supernatural

  857. Trumpet

  858. This is something

  859. That comes from heaven

  860. This is an unearthly

  861. Trumpet sound

  862. That awakens the dead

  863. That comes to announce

  864. The arrival of the king

  865. I'm sure

  866. God willing

  867. On Saturday

  868. There will be something

  869. Similar to that

  870. In human terms

  871. Very often the case

  872. When the queen

  873. The late queen

  874. Was arriving at parliament

  875. Or wherever

  876. And this time

  877. For the coronation

  878. There will be a fanfare

  879. I'm sure

  880. To announce

  881. That the king

  882. Is here

  883. To announce

  884. That this is the moment

  885. This is the moment

  886. The large crowd

  887. In anticipation

  888. Of the king's coronation

  889. Gathered there

  890. This is the moment

  891. They've been looking forward to

  892. This is the moment

  893. The moment has now come

  894. The trumpet blast

  895. The fanfare announces

  896. This is it

  897. He's here

  898. And it'll be that way

  899. At the end of the world

  900. It'll be that way

  901. At the end of the age

  902. At the coming of Christ

  903. At the resurrection

  904. Of the dead

  905. For the trumpet

  906. Will sound

  907. And the dead

  908. Will be raised

  909. Imperishable

  910. The other place

  911. You find it mentioned

  912. The sound of the trumpet

  913. Is in Revelation

    Revelation 20 chapter mention

  914. Chapter 20

  915. Sorry

  916. 1 Thessalonians chapter 4

    1 Thessalonians 4:15–16

  917. Verses 15 to 16

  918. You remember

  919. That's dealing with

  920. The resurrection as well

  921. 1 Thessalonians 4

    1 Thessalonians 4:15–16

  922. Verses 15 to 16

  923. Where you find

  924. The Lord himself

  925. He says

  926. We declare that

  927. Those who are alive

  928. Who are left

  929. Till the coming of the Lord

  930. Will not precede

  931. Those who have fallen asleep

  932. For the Lord himself

  933. Will descend from heaven

  934. With a cry of command

  935. With a voice of an archangel

  936. And with the sound

  937. Of the trumpet of God

  938. And the dead in Christ

  939. Will rise first

  940. Then we who are alive

  941. Will be caught up together

  942. With them in the clouds

  943. To meet the Lord

  944. In the air

  945. Therefore

  946. So we will always be

  947. With the Lord

  948. It's the same emphasis there

  949. That when the Lord comes

  950. There will be this

  951. Almighty

  952. Unearthly

  953. Supernatural sound

  954. That will announce

  955. His arrival

  956. The fanfare of heaven

  957. It will come

  958. And announce to the world

  959. The King is here

  960. The Lord is here

  961. God has come

  962. And He's come to judge the earth

  963. And He's come to

  964. Bring His people home

  965. And He's come to

  966. Deal with all

  967. Who have ever lived

  968. As Revelation chapter 20

    Revelation 20 chapter mention

  969. Puts it

  970. The great white throne

  971. Before whom all

  972. Will be arraigned

  973. And before whom all

  974. Will be judged

  975. And it's announcing

  976. As it announces

  977. The King's arrival

  978. As you read there

  979. In 1 Thessalonians 4

  980. It's more than just

  981. The announcement

  982. Of His arrival

  983. It's also

  984. It's also a summons

  985. To us

  986. To take note

  987. Of what's happening

  988. To come and meet

  989. The King

  990. The trumpet that announces

  991. His arrival

  992. Is the trumpet

  993. That says to us

  994. You are required

  995. Now to meet Him

  996. You are required

  997. To listen

  998. You are required

  999. To give

  1000. Your greatest attention

  1001. To what's happened

  1002. Because it's the King

  1003. Who's arrived

  1004. It's a time for

  1005. Concentration

  1006. As never before

  1007. Because we shall be

  1008. All arranged before Him

1009. To be judged by Him

1010. According to what we have done

  1011. Whether good

  1012. Or evil

  1013. What a great day

  1014. That's going to be

  1015. Friends

  1016. What a wonderful

  1017. Fulfillment

  1018. Of the hope

  1019. Of God's people

  1020. What a wonderful

  1021. Climax and crowning

  1022. To their life

  1023. Of faith

  1024. In this world

  1025. To their expectation

  1026. Of resurrection

  1027. To be with Jesus

  1028. Forevermore

  1029. To gather with

  1030. God's people

  1031. In heaven

  1032. And to be there

  1033. Without interruption

  1034. Forevermore

  1035. With this perishable

  1036. Having put on

  1037. The imperishable

  1038. And this mortal

  1039. Having put on

  1040. The immortal

  1041. And that's what

1042. He's saying to us tonight

  1043. It's this wonderful

  1044. Anticipation

  1045. Of this great day

  1046. How are you preparing

  1047. For it?

  1048. How am I preparing

  1049. For it?

  1050. When there's

  1051. An inevitability

  1052. About it

  1053. When there's

  1054. A certainty

  1055. About it

  1056. Are we preparing

  1057. To meet

  1058. Our king?

  1059. This is not

  1060. Going to be like

  1061. The coronation

  1062. We're anticipating

  1063. This week

  1064. However grand

  1065. That may be

  1066. However significant

  1067. That may be

  1068. For many people

  1069. This is for the

  1070. Whole of humanity

  1071. And especially

  1072. So for God's

  1073. Redeemed people

  1074. The moment

  1075. They've anticipated

  1076. The moment

  1077. Indeed

  1078. That the world

  1079. Has been waiting

  1080. For the world

  1081. Of God's people

  1082. In it

  1083. Especially

  1084. Has been waiting

  1085. For from the moment

  1086. People began

  1087. To fear the Lord

1088. The day of the Lord

  1089. Presented in God's

  1090. Revelation of himself

  1091. As the pinnacle

  1092. Really of history

  1093. The pinnacle of redemption

  1094. For God's people

  1095. Here we are tonight

  1096. We have

  1097. A privilege

  1098. That's

  1099. Not the lot

  1100. Of many people

  1101. In the world

  1102. In the day

  1103. In which we live

  1104. The privilege

  1105. Of knowing

  1106. This truth

  1107. From the gospel

  1108. The privilege

  1109. Of being called

  1110. To anticipate

1111. The coming of the king

  1112. The privilege

  1113. Of knowing

  1114. That we have

  1115. To have our trust

  1116. In him

  1117. That we need

  1118. To love him

  1119. That we need

  1120. To fall down

  1121. In obedience

  1122. To him

  1123. In this life

  1124. So that we will

  1125. Welcome him

  1126. When he comes

  1127. What a great privilege

  1128. God has given you

  1129. That he's revealed

  1130. This to you

  1131. As something

  1132. That is

  1133. Required of us

  1134. And that it's

  1135. A privilege of us

  1136. To enter into

  1137. A life of faith

  1138. And trust

  1139. And love

  1140. And hope

  1141. In the Lord

  1142. Jesus Christ

1143. Is that where you are

  1144. With your life

  1145. So far

  1146. Is that where

  1147. Your hope

  1148. Is anchored

  1149. Is that how

  1150. You're preparing

  1151. Not just

  1152. For your death

  1153. But how you're

  1154. Preparing

  1155. For the coming

  1156. Of the king

  1157. For the realization

  1158. That the Lord

  1159. Is on his way

  1160. And the trumpet

  1161. Will sound

  1162. And the dead

  1163. Will be raised

  1164. And we shall

  1165. All be gathered

  1166. In his presence

  1167. Well he's saying here

  1168. That that's

  1169. What's going to happen

  1170. So the features

  1171. Then of that

  1172. Great change

  1173. Next

  1174. We can see

  1175. Moving from

  1176. The necessity

  1177. Of it

  1178. The necessity

  1179. Being that

  1180. We cannot

  1181. Inherit

  1182. The kingdom

  1183. Of God

  1184. Without this

  1185. Change

  1186. In the resurrection

  1187. Of the saved

  1188. When he says here

  1189. For this perishable

  1190. Must put on

  1191. The imperishable

  1192. And this mortal

  1193. Body must put on

  1194. Immortality

  1195. Then when the

  1196. Perishable

  1197. Puts on the

  1198. Imperishable

  1199. And the mortal

  1200. Puts on immortality

  1201. Then shall be

  1202. Brought to pass

  1203. The saying

  1204. That is written

  1205. Death is swallowed

  1206. Up in victory

  1207. O death

  1208. Where is your victory

  1209. O death

  1210. Where is your sting

  1211. Quoting from

  1212. Isaiah 25

  1213. And also some

  1214. Verses you find

  1215. In Hosea chapter 13

    Hosea 13 chapter mention

  1216. Combining them there

  1217. Really together

  1218. For this imperishable

  1219. Must put on

  1220. The imperishable

  1221. And this mortal

  1222. Must put on

  1223. Immortality

  1224. We've alluded to that

  1225. But you see

  1226. The must

  1227. Is there again

  1228. Emphasized

1229. It must be the case

  1230. We cannot inherit

  1231. The kingdom of God

  1232. Without this change

  1233. But then

  1234. When this happens

  1235. Then shall be brought

  1236. To pass the saying

  1237. That is written

  1238. Death is swallowed

  1239. Up in victory

  1240. And that word

  1241. Then is important

  1242. Because here is

  1243. A prophecy

  1244. That for thousands

  1245. Of years

  1246. Has been lying

  1247. Waiting for it

  1248. To be fulfilled

  1249. The prophecy

  1250. That the Lord

  1251. Gave through Isaiah

  1252. To the people

  1253. In chapter 25

  1254. As we have it

  1255. Of his prophecy

  1256. A prophecy

  1257. Waiting for fulfillment

  1258. For the day

  1259. Of its accomplishment

  1260. And it's

  1261. The accomplishment

  1262. Of it

  1263. At the coming

  1264. Of Christ

  1265. Then shall be brought

  1266. To pass the saying

  1267. That is written

  1268. This is not fulfilled

1269. Once you leave this world

  1270. As a Christian

  1271. And in your soul

  1272. Enter into glory

  1273. That's only part

  1274. Of what is awaiting

  1275. The Lord's people

  1276. This actually awaits

1277. The raising of your body

1278. So as to be with your soul

  1279. Reunited to enter glory

  1280. Forevermore

  1281. Then shall be brought

  1282. To pass the saying

  1283. That is written

  1284. Death is swallowed up

  1285. In victory

  1286. Now in principle

  1287. That's been accomplished

  1288. By Jesus

  1289. Of course

  1290. In his own resurrection

  1291. From the dead

  1292. But as far as

  1293. God's people are concerned

  1294. It's still awaiting

  1295. In the future

  1296. To be fulfilled

  1297. When they are raised

  1298. From the dead

  1299. To be with Christ

  1300. Forever

1301. Because that's going to mean

  1302. Neither decay

  1303. Nor death

  1304. Shall ever again invade

  1305. Their human experience

  1306. Their human life

  1307. They're set above it

  1308. They're imperishable

  1309. They're immortal

  1310. Death has no longer

  1311. Any possibility

  1312. Of invading

  1313. What they are

  1314. As raised

  1315. Saved people in Christ

  1316. What a great prospect

  1317. That is

  1318. And here is

  1319. Paul saying

  1320. That

  1321. This

  1322. For he says

  1323. The sting of death

  1324. Is sin

  1325. The power of sin

  1326. Is the law

  1327. Thanks be to God

1328. Who gives us the victory

1329. Through our Lord Jesus Christ

  1330. He's saying here

  1331. The sting of death

  1332. Is sin

1333. If you think of a scorpion

  1334. Which seems to be

  1335. The imagery there

  1336. Scorpion that bears

  1337. This poisonous

  1338. Deadly sting

  1339. In its tail

  1340. Well death

  1341. Has its sting

  1342. In sin

  1343. Sin is the sting

  1344. Of death

  1345. Sin is

  1346. Here

  1347. Gives

  1348. Death

  1349. Is what gives death

  1350. Its sting

  1351. And here's

  1352. Here's the amazing thing

  1353. That this sting

  1354. Has already

  1355. Entered into

  1356. Jesus Christ

  1357. Himself

1358. He came into this world

  1359. To die

1360. And he came into this world

  1361. To die

  1362. The death

  1363. That we deserved

1364. He came into this world

  1365. To die

  1366. The wages

  1367. Of sin

  1368. The death

  1369. That is

  1370. Not just

  1371. Physical death

  1372. But also death

  1373. Spiritual

  1374. Death

  1375. In separation

  1376. From God

  1377. Death

  1378. As the great

  1379. Penalty of sin

  1380. That God

  1381. Has laid upon us

  1382. In our condemnation

  1383. That is why

1384. Jesus came into the world

  1385. He came to live

  1386. A perfect life

  1387. But to die

  1388. This atoning death

  1389. Sting of death

  1390. Entered into himself

1391. But not in a way

  1392. That defeated him

1393. It's the other way about

  1394. Death has been defeated

  1395. By the death

  1396. He died

  1397. Fulfilling the demands

  1398. Of the law

  1399. The requirement

  1400. Of God

  1401. And then

  1402. Followed by a resurrection

  1403. His resurrection

  1404. From the dead

  1405. You know that when

  1406. Not every species

  1407. Of bee

  1408. Has this

  1409. But the honeybee

  1410. Has a sting

  1411. With a little hook

  1412. At the end

  1413. Of the sting

  1414. Which protrudes

  1415. From the rear

  1416. Of its body

  1417. And when the honeybee

  1418. Stings

  1419. Into flesh

  1420. Of any kind

  1421. Because that

  1422. Sting is

  1423. Barbed

  1424. It's got a hook

1425. He can't pull it out

  1426. Again

  1427. The bee

  1428. Cannot pull it out

  1429. Again

  1430. Without destroying

  1431. Itself

  1432. And

  1433. Have you ever seen

  1434. Such a thing

  1435. As the body

  1436. Of the bee

  1437. Is torn apart

  1438. The little

  1439. Sack

1440. The end of its body

  1441. With the sting

  1442. Attached

  1443. Continues

  1444. To be attached

  1445. To

  1446. Wherever this thing

  1447. Has entered

  1448. And it keeps on

  1449. Pumping the venom

  1450. Even after the bee

  1451. Has been torn apart

  1452. And very soon

  1453. Dies after that

  1454. Well think of that

  1455. As an illustration

  1456. Here is sin

  1457. Here is the devil

  1458. Indeed

  1459. Using his sin

  1460. As a weapon

  1461. Using sin

  1462. As a weapon

  1463. Here is the sin

  1464. That is proper

  1465. To you

  1466. And to me

  1467. As sinners

  1468. Here is Jesus

  1469. The son of God

  1470. Come into the

  1471. World

  1472. In order to take

  1473. The sting

  1474. Of death

  1475. To himself

  1476. The sin

  1477. For which we are

  1478. Rightly condemned

  1479. But it's destroyed

  1480. The moment it enters

  1481. Into Christ

  1482. Because he has died

  1483. The death

  1484. We could not die

  1485. He had died

  1486. He died

  1487. Victorious

  1488. Let me remind you

  1489. Of a wonderful passage

  1490. In Hebrews

    Hebrews 2 chapter mention

  1491. Chapter 2

  1492. Where you find

  1493. The writer there

  1494. Talking about

  1495. The coming

  1496. The death

  1497. Of Christ

  1498. And especially

  1499. Himself

  1500. Taking out

  1501. Human nature

  1502. He says

  1503. He took

  1504. He took this

  1505. To himself

  1506. That through

  1507. Death

  1508. He might destroy

  1509. The one

  1510. Who has the power

  1511. Of death

  1512. That is the devil

  1513. And delivered

  1514. All those

  1515. Who through fear

  1516. Of death

  1517. Were subject

  1518. To lifelong

  1519. To life

  1520. To life

  1521. Talks then

  1522. About being made

  1523. Like unto his

  1524. Brothers

  1525. In every respect

  1526. Taking our human

  1527. Nature to himself

  1528. But confine it

  1529. To what he says

  1530. There

  1531. That through

  1532. Death

  1533. Through his own

  1534. Death

  1535. He might destroy

  1536. Him

  1537. Who has the power

  1538. Of death

  1539. That is the devil

  1540. Not only did Jesus

  1541. Deal with sin

  1542. And overcome sin

  1543. And remove the sting

  1544. Of sin

  1545. From the death

  1546. Of his people

  1547. He has also

  1548. Come to

  1549. Destroy the devil's

  1550. Authority

  1551. And ultimately

  1552. Himself

  1553. And his condemnation

  1554. Forever

  1555. You see

1556. It's all in the cross

  1557. It's all in the

  1558. Resurrection of Christ

  1559. Following his

  1560. Death

  1561. The death he died

  1562. And that's what

  1563. Lies behind

  1564. That's what's

  1565. Foundational

  1566. To the Lord's

  1567. People

  1568. In their resurrection

  1569. Where the perishable

  1570. Puts on the

  1571. Imperishable

  1572. Where the mortal

  1573. Puts on immortality

  1574. Then it shall

  1575. Come to pass

  1576. Death

  1577. Is swallowed up

  1578. In victory

  1579. The Lord

  1580. Has taken the

  1581. Sting

  1582. Himself

  1583. Out of death

  1584. And when you

  1585. Die as a Christian

  1586. That sting's

  1587. Not going to

  1588. Touch you

  1589. The poison of

  1590. Sin has been

  1591. Removed

  1592. It's not going

  1593. To be in any

  1594. Way

  1595. Capable of

  1596. Invading

  1597. Your life

  1598. Anymore

  1599. Oh death

  1600. Where is

  1601. Your victory

  1602. He adds

  1603. Oh death

  1604. Where is

  1605. Your sting

  1606. As if Paul

  1607. Is turning

  1608. Around and

  1609. In a way

  1610. Of personifying

  1611. Death

  1612. As if it

  1613. Was just

  1614. A real

  1615. Person that

  1616. He's talking

  1617. To

  1618. That had

  1619. This ascendancy

  1620. Over human

  1621. Beings

  1622. He's now

  1623. Saying

  1624. Oh death

  1625. Where is

  1626. Your victory

  1627. Now

  1628. Oh grave

  1629. Oh death

  1630. Where is

  1631. Your sting

  1632. Now

  1633. Now that

  1634. The Lord

  1635. Has done

  1636. What he

  1637. Has done

  1638. Now that

  1639. God has

  1640. Swallowed up

  1641. Death

  1642. In victory

  1643. Now that

  1644. Jesus

  1645. Has died

  1646. Now that

  1647. He's taken

  1648. That sting

  1649. To himself

  1650. Where is

  1651. Your victory

  1652. Where is

  1653. Your triumph

  1654. Where is

  1655. Your sting

  1656. It's gone

  1657. You don't

  1658. Have it

  1659. Anymore

  1660. What a

  1661. Celebration

  1662. What a

  1663. Cause of

  1664. Celebration

  1665. The wages

  1666. Of sin

  1667. Is death

  1668. The sting

  1669. Of death

  1670. Is sin

  1671. Christ has

  1672. Dealt with it

  1673. And when you

  1674. Come to

  1675. Trust in him

  1676. His triumph

  1677. Becomes

  1678. Your triumph

  1679. His victory

  1680. Becomes

  1681. Your victory

  1682. His ascendancy

  1683. Over death

  1684. Becomes

  1685. Your ascendancy

  1686. His taking

  1687. The sting

  1688. Out of death

  1689. Means it's

  1690. As if you

  1691. Have done

  1692. It yourself

  1693. Through faith

  1694. In him

  1695. That's what's

  1696. True of you

  1697. Thanks be to

  1698. God who gives

  1699. Us the victory

  1700. Through our

  1701. Lord Jesus

  1702. Christ

  1703. The resurrection

  1704. Is future

  1705. But the

  1706. Victory

  1707. Is assured

  1708. Whatever

  1709. Lies between

  1710. Now and the

  1711. Return of

  1712. Christ

  1713. In the

  1714. History of

  1715. The world

  1716. The foundation

  1717. Has been

  1718. Laid

  1719. The principle

  1720. Of victory

  1721. Has been

  1722. Won

  1723. Isn't that

  1724. Something

  1725. Tonight

  1726. That you

  1727. Yourself

  1728. Can celebrate

  1729. Isn't it

  1730. Something really

  1731. That the world

  1732. Ought to be

  1733. Longing for

  1734. The accomplishment

  1735. Of it

  1736. At his return

  1737. Then shall

  1738. Be brought

  1739. To death

  1740. The saying

  1741. That is written

  1742. Death is

  1743. Swallowed up

  1744. In victory

  1745. Don't you

  1746. Actually feel

  1747. That sense

  1748. Of expectation

  1749. Even of

  1750. Triumph

  1751. As you

  1752. Anticipate

  1753. That for

  1754. Yourself

  1755. That this

  1756. Is something

  1757. Really

  1758. That belongs

  1759. To your

  1760. Life

  1761. And to

  1762. Your hope

  1763. And to

  1764. Your

  1765. Expectation

  1766. That that

  1767. Day is

  1768. Coming for

  1769. You as

  1770. Well

  1771. Through

  1772. Your faith

  1773. In Christ

  1774. Through

  1775. The victory

  1776. Of Christ

  1777. That he's

  1778. Achieved

  1779. For you

  1780. When you

  1781. Can actually

  1782. Say

  1783. Looking down

  1784. Upon death

  1785. As you

  1786. Are raised

  1787. Above it

  1788. In the

  1789. Resurrection

  1790. When you

  1791. Can say

  1792. Where now

  1793. Is your

  1794. Victory

  1795. Grave

  1796. I've left

  1797. It behind

  1798. It's no

  1799. Longer

  1800. There

  1801. It's no

  1802. Longer

  1803. Relevant

  1804. My Lord

  1805. Has triumphed

  1806. And I've

  1807. Triumphed

  1808. In him

  1809. Thanks be

  1810. To God

  1811. Who gives

  1812. Us the

  1813. Victory

  1814. Through our

  1815. Lord Jesus

  1816. Christ

  1817. You know

  1818. There's a

  1819. Great book

  1820. A Scottish

  1821. Theological

  1822. Classic

  1823. Called

  1824. The 4-4

  1825. State

  1826. By Thomas

  1827. Boston

  1828. It's really

  1829. Called human

  1830. Nature

  1831. In its

  1832. Fourfold

  1833. State

  1834. He deals

  1835. With the

  1836. State

  1837. Before the

  1838. Fall

  1839. The state

  1840. Of sin

  1841. The state

  1842. Of grace

  1843. And the state

  1844. Of glory

  1845. The fourfold

  1846. State

  1847. Of human

  1848. Beings

  1849. And in

  1850. That book

  1851. Page 384

  1852. I've got

  1853. Noted here

  1854. Boston

  1855. Imagines

  1856. The souls

  1857. Of God's

  1858. Saved

  1859. People

  1860. Being

  1861. Reunited

  1862. With their

  1863. Bodies

  1864. That had

  1865. Been

  1866. Long

  1867. In the

  1868. Grave

  1869. And

  1870. Reunited

  1871. In the

  1872. Resurrection

  1873. With their

  1874. Souls

  1875. And Boston

  1876. Imagines

  1877. The souls

  1878. Speaking

  1879. To the

  1880. Body

  1881. And

  1882. Saying

  1883. This

  1884. Arise

  1885. Then my

  1886. Body

  1887. And come

  1888. Away

  1889. Let these

  1890. Eyes

  1891. Which used

  1892. To weep

  1893. Over my

  1894. Sins

  1895. Behold

  1896. With joy

  1897. The face

  1898. Of our

  1899. Glorious

  1900. Redeemer

  1901. Let these

  1902. Ears

  1903. Which used

  1904. To hear

  1905. The word

  1906. Of life

  1907. In the

  1908. Temple

  1909. Below

  1910. Come

  1911. And hear

  1912. The hallelujahs

  1913. In the

  1914. Temple

  1915. Above

  1916. Let these

  1917. Feet

  1918. That carried

  1919. Me

  1920. In the

  1921. Congregation

  1922. Of saints

  1923. On earth

  1924. Take their

  1925. Place among

  1926. Those in

  1927. Heaven

  1928. And let

  1929. This tongue

  1930. Which confessed

  1931. Christ

  1932. Before men

  1933. Join

  1934. The choir

  1935. Of the

  1936. Upper

  1937. House

  1938. In his

  1939. Praises

  1940. Forevermore

  1941. And he

  1942. goes on

  1943. Imagining the

  1944. Soul speaking

  1945. To the

  1946. Body

  1947. You will

  1948. Fast no

  1949. More

  1950. But keep

  1951. An everlasting

  1952. Feast

  1953. You will

  1954. Weep no

  1955. More

  1956. Neither

  1957. Shall your

  1958. Countenance

  1959. Be over

  1960. Clouded

  1961. But you

  1962. Will shine

  1963. Forever

  1964. As a

  1965. Star in

  1966. The firmament

  1967. And then the

  1968. Soul says to

  1969. The redeemed

  1970. Body

  1971. The resurrected

  1972. Body

  1973. We took

  1974. Part together

  1975. In the

  1976. Fight

  1977. Come

  1978. Let us

  1979. Go together

  1980. To receive

  1981. And wear

  1982. The crown

  1983. This

  1984. Perishable

  1985. Must put

  1986. On the

  1987. Imperishable

  1988. And when

  1989. This perishable

  1990. Puts on the

  1991. Imperishable

  1992. And this

  1993. Mortal

  1994. Shall have

  1995. Put on

  1996. Immortality

  1997. Then

  1998. Shall come

  1999. To pass

  2000. The saying

  2001. That is

  2002. Written

  2003. Death

  2004. Is swallowed

  2005. Up

  2006. In victory

  2007. What a

  2008. Great

  2009. Thing

  2010. Faith

  2011. Is

  2012. That as

  2013. It joins

  2014. You to

  2015. Christ

  2016. That victory

  2017. Becomes

  2018. Yours

  2019. But what a

  2020. Great

  2021. Saviour

  2022. Christ

  2023. Is

  2024. That he

  2025. Has done

  2026. All that

  2027. For his

  2028. People

  2029. Let's pray

  2030. Oh Lord

  2031. Our

  2032. Gracious

  2033. God

  2034. How

  2035. Grateful

  2036. Tonight

  2037. We should

  2038. Be to

  2039. You

  2040. That you

  2041. Have

  2042. Already

  2043. Accomplished

  2044. Victory

  2045. Through your

  2046. Own

  2047. Resurrection

  2048. From the

  2049. Dead

  2050. That your

  2051. Promise

  2052. Of glory

  2053. For your

  2054. People

  2055. Is as

  2056. Real as

  2057. Their

  2058. Presence

  2059. On earth

  2060. Is to

  2061. Themselves

  2062. We bless

  2063. You tonight

  2064. For that

  2065. Victory

  2066. Lord we

  2067. Pray that

  2068. Each of

  2069. Us here

  2070. Who know

  2071. The gospel

  2072. So well

  2073. Who have

  2074. Come to

  2075. Look at

  2076. This great

  2077. Passage

  2078. This evening

  2079. Lord we

  2080. Pray that

  2081. It may be

  2082. True for

  2083. Each one

  2084. Of us

  2085. Too

  2086. That we

  2087. Shall

  2088. Put on

  2089. The

  2090. Imperishable

  2091. And that

  2092. This mortal

  2093. Will put

  2094. On immortality

  2095. And that

  2096. We will

  2097. Participate

  2098. In that

  2099. Great

  2100. Hallelujah

  2101. When the

  2102. Lord returns

  2103. Of a

  2104. Celebration

  2105. With his

  2106. People

  2107. Of his

  2108. Victory

  2109. And theirs

  2110. Over sin

  2111. And over

  2112. Death

  2113. Hear us

  2114. We pray

  2115. For Jesus

  2116. Sake

  2117. Amen

  2118. We're

  2119. Going to

  2120. Sing

  2121. In conclusion

  2122. From

  2123. Psalm 116

  2124. Psalm 116

  2125. That's in

  2126. St.

  2127. Psalms

  2128. Page 154

  2129. And we'll sing

  2130. Verses 12

  2131. To 19

  2132. The tune is

  2133. Even

  2134. Tied

  2135. How can I

  2136. Thank the

  2137. Lord for

  2138. All he's

  2139. Done

  2140. With

  2141. Gratitude

  2142. Salvation's

  2143. Cup

  2144. I'll

  2145. Raise

  2146. I'll

  2147. Call upon

  2148. His

  2149. Name

  2150. And will

  2151. Fulfill

  2152. My

  2153. Vows

  2154. To

  2155. Him

  2156. Before

  2157. His

  2158. People's

  2159. Face

  2160. The

  2161. Lord

  2162. Holds

  2163. Dear

  2164. The

  2165. Death

  2166. Of

  2167. All

  2168. His

  2169. Saints

  2192. Been

  2193. Freed

  2194. By

  2195. You

  2197. The

  2198. End
