  1. We'll begin our worship by singing to God's praise. We'll sing in Psalm 96a, in the Sing

  2. Psalms version, Psalm 96a, singing from verse 1 to verse 9, page 1 to 6 of the psalm book,

  3. the tune is Argyle, Psalm 96a.

  4. Oh, sing a new song to the Lord, sing praises to his name and his salvation day by day let

  5. all the earth proclaim.

  6. We'll sing from verse 1 to 9 to God's praise.

  7. O sing a new song to the Lord, sing praises to his name and his salvation day by day.

  8. Let all the earth proclaim.

  9. His glory and his mighty deeds to every love dear.

  10. How great that God saves the Lord, with him no gods compare.

  11. For other gods are good and stones.

  12. The Lord, we'll sing the Lord, in the name of God.

  13. The Lord, we'll sing by day.

  14. The Lord, we'll sing by day.

  15. The Lord, we'll sing by day.

  16. Of power and majesty and his, he dwells in glorious light.

  17. All nations do, the Lord has died, the glory that is due.

  18. Glory to God's name, the sky to God, and praise His name anew.

  19. Enter in the gates with joy and pain, an opening with you.

  20. Worship the Lord in holy fear, on earth, the core and the love.

  21. Let's unite our hearts together in prayer.

  22. Let us pray.

  23. Lord our God, our Father in heaven, to worship you anew this evening hour, we thank you for the praise which we come with.

  24. We thank you that we can come singing a song to the Lord, singing anew full of praise to you.

  25. For we thank you that that is a song that you have given to your people.

  26. A song that at one point we had no desire to sing and no longing for at all.

  27. But we thank you that so many of the Psalms describe to us that transforming power that you have.

  28. You're the one who is able to lift us up, to bring us out of the clay and set our feet on the rock as another describes,

  29. putting a new song in our mouth.

  30. We thank you, Lord, that we have a song of praise to sing.

  31. And we come this evening, Lord, to worship you as the living God.

  32. And we thank you that we come acknowledging your power and sovereignty,

  33. acknowledging your rule over us as a people and your world as a whole.

  34. For we are reminded in this Psalm how you are the one who has made the heaven's height and all that's contained in them.

  35. And so we come thankful that we have access to you in and through the name of your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

  36. Thankful that we come not of any good in our sin, or righteousness of ourselves,

  37. but we come humbly through the righteousness of Christ.

  38. For we know that we are sinners, and yet we know too that there is power in the blood of Christ to forgive all our sins.

  39. That we have one who came to take our sins upon himself.

  40. All that we deserve, he took from us and bore our sins on the cross.

  41. And so we come, O Lord, looking to you this evening.

  42. Thankful for all that you have done.

  43. Thankful for all that we can come with this evening.

  44. We are told to come with joy and bring an offering with us.

  45. And we come to offer whatever else we have, we come to offer praise.

  46. We offer our lives up to you, Lord.

  47. We offer all that we are and have up to you as our Lord and as our God.

  48. And we pray, Lord, that you will help us to be still in your presence this evening,

  49. to worship you aright.

  50. Come, O Lord, able to put all other things to one side.

  51. We acknowledge that our minds can be so cluttered and so busy.

  52. We can already be planning the week ahead.

  53. We can already be thinking about all that maybe lies ahead of us in this coming week.

  54. But we thank you, Lord, that you help us just for this time to be still and to know that you are God.

  55. And so, Lord, take away these distractions that so often keep us from hearing what you are saying to us.

  56. And give us ears to hear through your word and by your spirit.

  57. That you are speaking to us, your voice calling to us, to each of us, to come to you.

  58. Whatever situation we are in, if we are believing in you with all our hearts, we come leaning upon you.

  59. We come, O Lord, dependent upon you for all things.

  60. But perhaps others come, O Lord, not knowing that assurance of faith.

  61. Not knowing what it is to know the Lord Jesus as a personal Savior.

  62. Maybe knowing much about him and hearing your word many times and yet still not experiencing that life-changing moment.

  63. Of those who are still maybe struggling to understand you.

  64. Or seeking you with all their hearts but feeling as close to them.

  65. That, Lord, you would open the doors for them.

  66. That you would bring them into your heart.

  67. That you would bring in and build on those who are being saved.

  68. We thank you for the times of blessing that your church has enjoyed down through all the generations.

  69. We thank you for the times of blessing that you are in your word.

  70. As a people.

  71. Here in our midst as a congregation and as a community here, Lord.

  72. We long to see you enlivening us and quickening us in these days, Lord.

  73. When we see so much that we despair at and are despondent about.

  74. Lord, help us to lift our eyes to you.

  75. And to recognize you as the one who is able to change all that we see around us.

  76. And to change it for good.

  77. And the hearts that are hard towards you, Lord, you are able to suffer.

  78. Those who are angry against you.

  79. Those who so often curse you.

  80. Who despise your name and who reject you so often.

  81. We know, Lord, that they are many.

  82. But yet, Lord, you are able to transform.

  83. You are able to work in power.

  84. You are able to bring them to love you with all their hearts.

  85. As we heard this morning of Saul.

  86. How he met the Lord in the midst of a life of chaos.

  87. On his way to persecute Christians.

  88. He met with the Lord and his life was transformed so quickly.

  89. And we thank you that there is that testimony and witness through your word.

  90. And that we see it to this, Lord.

  91. You are able to do so much more than we ask or imagine.

  92. And that keeps us, Lord, coming to you in prayer.

  93. Because we cannot do it ourselves.

  94. We depend on you.

  95. So we come praying for you to work, oh Lord.

  96. Work in our families, in our homes, in our communities and workplaces around us, Lord.

  97. We pray to see your hand upon us for good.

  98. The good hand of the Lord we will read of this evening.

  99. We pray to see it here in our midst, oh Lord.

  100. And we thank you that your church has been here.

  101. And through the other islands as we pray for the communion season in our midst, Lord.

  102. We thank you for these times of refreshing around your word.

  103. And pray it would be so for those who are gathered even this evening in our back.

  104. We pray that they would have had a blessed weekend.

  105. And we pray for Reverend Rory Stott as he is ministering to them this evening.

  106. We pray, Lord, for the congregation as they gather.

  107. Even with some of our own young folk there as well, Lord.

  108. We pray it will be a time of blessing and refreshing to all.

  109. In the fellowship and in the preaching of your word.

  110. Your spirit will be present and be at work in power.

  111. We pray for the upcoming weekend as well in Calanation Cross with communions taking place there.

  112. We pray for your servants who will be ministering, Reverend Alistair MacLeod and Dr. Malcolm McLean.

  113. And we pray, Lord, that you will use them as instruments in your hands.

  114. As we heard again this morning, we pray, Lord, that they will be used by you as they proclaim the riches of Christ.

  115. There will be times of blessing and encouragement around your word.

  116. We pray that for our nation too.

  117. Lord, we thank you that there are many churches around our land here.

  118. We so often focus on the challenges that surround us as a nation and all that is wrong with us.

  119. We thank you, Lord, that many of our cities and towns and villages have a rich gospel witness.

  120. And we pray for your people, people who live in our town here over the summer months,

  121. who come from different parts of the land and different congregations.

  122. We pray, Lord, that where your word is preached with truth and authority,

  123. that your blessing will be upon it.

  124. That you will revive our land and bless us as a nation.

  125. Lord, turn us one more than towards you to know days of your power and your refreshing in our midst.

  126. We remember, Lord, our world as well and so much of what goes on around us, Lord.

  127. Yet again, we thank you that in the wilderness of the earth, you have your people scattered far and wide

  128. in many different lands among many different people.

  129. We thank you for your church that is being built.

  130. We thank you for your people who are faithful to you in all corners of the world.

  131. A praying people, a worshipping people, a people who worship the true and the living God,

  132. even in the midst of those who worship idols made of wood or stone or so many other materials.

  133. We thank you that there are those of your people pointing others towards the riches of Christ

  134. and the hope of the gospel and the joy of eternal life through him.

  135. And so we pray, Lord, that you will build up your church near and far

  136. and that we would see your glory present in all our lands throughout the world.

  137. Remember us as a people.

  138. We pray for you to be near with us, our homes and our families and all our loved ones.

  139. We commit them to you, O Lord, and ask that in every need we have that we will be able to come,

  140. to come with our burdens to you, to cast them upon you,

  141. and to be able, Lord, to see your hand giving us all that we need.

  142. Not maybe what we ask for, Lord, but we know that you will give as we need.

  143. You will give grace that is sufficient for every circumstance.

  144. And so we ask, O Lord, surround our people, surround them in different needs at this time.

  145. Those who are unwell, those who are concerned for loved ones,

  146. or just struggling in different ways at this time.

  147. O Lord, we commit them to you and ask that you will surround them and uphold them

  148. and be very near to them in all their different needs.

  149. Lord, we thank you for the blessing of fellowship and the blessing of prayer

  150. to be able to share together in all these different ways.

  151. And we pray, Lord, that you will hear us together,

  152. that you will hear our prayers even as we offer them up now,

  153. that you will hear our praise as we offer it up,

  154. and that as we come to your word, Lord, you will help us to hear you as you speak to us.

  155. So, Lord, guide our worship, guide us, guide our focus to you,

  156. and help us to lift our eyes up to you,

  157. and to look and depend on you for all things.

  158. So, Lord, go continue with us, we pray,

  159. with us in the week ahead as well, Lord,

  160. guide all our steps and all that we do and say.

  161. May it be to your glory and for your glory,

  162. and for yours alone.

  163. We ask it all for our sins, Lord,

  164. acknowledging how often we fall short,

  165. of how we sin in thought, word, and in deed.

  166. And yet, O Lord, we come,

  167. asking and pleading for forgiveness,

  168. for all our shortcomings.

  169. So, hear our prayers and continue with us, we ask.

  170. So, we ask it all in Jesus' name.

  171. Amen.

  172. Again, sing to God's praise, this time in Psalm 44.

  173. And let's sing Psalms.

  174. Psalm 44 on page 54 of the Psalm books.

  175. Psalm 44, we'll sing verse 1 to verse 8,

  176. the tune is Tiverton.

  177. O God, we with our ears have heard our fathers told us so,

  178. what you accomplished in their days and days of long ago.

  179. Your hand drove nations out and placed our fathers there,

  180. and said, you crushed the peoples,

  181. but you caused our tribes to grow and spread.

  182. We'll sing these verses, verse 1 to 8,

  183. Psalm 44, to God's praise.

  184. O God, we with our ears have heard our fathers told us so,

  185. what you accomplished in their days and days of long ago.

  186. You crushed the peoples, but you caused our tribes to grow and spread.

  187. You crushed the peoples, but you caused our tribes to grow and spread.

  188. In the name of the Lord, we with our fathers to grow and spread.

  189. It was not by their sword or arm that they possessed the land,

  190. but by your love and faith are shown,

  191. and by your mighty hand.

  192. You are my King and God, Lord, I forging all victories.

  193. Through you we travel down our foes and brought our enemies.

  194. My soul does not bring victory.

  195. Lord, do I trust my hope.

  196. You put our enemies to shame and overcome our foes.

  197. In God alone we make our roles,

  198. Rejoice in all day long.

  199. And to your name forevermore we offer praise in song.

  200. We'll turn together now to read in God's word in the Book of Nehemiah,

  201. in the Old Testament, Nehemiah chapter 2.

    Nehemiah 2 chapter mention

  202. We can read the whole of this chapter together.

  203. Nehemiah chapter 2.

    Nehemiah 2 chapter mention

  204. So Nehemiah chapter 2, taking up a reading at the beginning.

    Nehemiah 2 chapter mention

  205. In the month of Nisan, in the twentieth year of King Arcterxes,

  206. when wine was before him,

  207. I took up the wine and gave it to the king.

  208. Now I had not been sad in his presence.

  209. And the king said to me,

  210. Why is your face sad, seeing you are not sick?

  211. This is nothing but sadness of the heart.

  212. Then I was very much afraid.

  213. I said to the king,

  214. Let the king live forever.

  215. Why should not my face be sad,

  216. When the city, the place of my father's graves,

  217. lies in ruins.

  218. And its gates have been destroyed by fire.

  219. Then the king said to me,

  220. What are you requesting?

  221. So I prayed to the God of heaven.

  222. And I said to the king,

  223. If it pleases the king,

  224. And if your servant has found favour in your sight,

  225. That you send me to Judah,

  226. To the city of my father's graves,

  227. That I may rebuild it.

  228. And the king said to me,

  229. The queen sitting beside him,

  230. How long will you be gone?

  231. And when will you return?

  232. So it pleased the king to send me,

  233. When I had given him a time.

  234. And I said to the king,

  235. If it pleases the king,

  236. Let letters be given to me for the government of the province,

  237. Beyond the river,

  238. That they may let me pass through until I come to Judah.

  239. And a letter to Asaph,

  240. The keeper of the king's forest,

  241. That he may give me timber to make beams,

  242. For the gates of the fortress of the temple,

  243. And for the wall of the city,

  244. And for the house that I shall occupy.

  245. And the king granted me what I asked,

  246. For the good hand of my God was upon me.

  247. Then I came to the leaders of the province,

  248. Beyond the river,

  249. And gave them the king's letters.

  250. Now the king had sent with me,

  251. Officers of the army and horsemen.

  252. But when Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite servant heard this,

  253. It displeased them that no one had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel.

  254. So I went to Jerusalem,

  255. And I was there for three days.

  256. Then I arose in the night,

  257. I and a few men with me.

  258. And I told no one what my God would do to my heart,

  259. To do for Jerusalem.

  260. There was no animal with me,

  261. But the one on which I rode.

  262. I went out by night,

  263. By the valley gate of the dragon spring,

  264. To the dung gate,

  265. And I inspected the walls of Jerusalem,

  266. That were broken down,

  267. And its gates that had been destroyed by fire.

  268. Then I went to the fountain gate,

  269. And to the king's pool.

  270. But there was no room for the animal that was under me to pass.

  271. Then I went up in the night by the valley,

  272. And inspected the wall.

  273. And I turned back and entered by the valley gate,

  274. And I turned.

  275. And the officials did not know,

  276. Where I had gone,

  277. Or what I was doing.

  278. And I had told the Jews,

  279. The priests,

  280. The nobles,

  281. The officials,

  282. And the rest,

  283. For where to do the work.

  284. Then I said to them,

  285. You see the trouble,

  286. How Jerusalem lies in ruins,

  287. With its gates burned.

  288. Come,

  289. Let us build the wall of Jerusalem,

  290. The longer suffer the Israel.

  291. And I told them of the hand of my God,

  292. That had been upon me for good.

  293. And also of the words that the king had spoken to me.

  294. And they said,

  295. Let us rise up and build.

  296. So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

  297. But when Sanballat the Horonite,

  298. And Tobiah the Ammonite,

  299. Heard,

  300. And Geshem the Arab heard of it,

  301. They jeered at us,

  302. And despised us,

  303. And said,

  304. What is this thing that you are doing?

  305. Are you rebelling against the king?

  306. Then I replied to them,

  307. The God of heaven will make us prosper.

  308. And we his servants will arise,

  309. And build up and build,

  310. And we will not have any portion or claim in Jerusalem.

  311. Amen.

  312. And may God bless that reading from his word.

  313. And before we turn back to look at this passage,

  314. And sing again to God's praise in Psalm 79,

  315. In the Scottish Psalter,

  316. Page 331.

  317. Psalm 79,

  318. Page 331.

  319. We are going to sing from verse 5 down to verse 9,

  320. The tune of St. Minver.

  321. How long, Lord, shall thine anger last?

  322. Will thou still keep the same?

  323. And shall thy fervent jealousy burn like unto a flame?

  324. We'll sing from verse 5 down to verse 9,

  325. Where it speaks of the glory of the Lord being the help towards his people.

  326. So we'll sing verse 5 to 9,

  327. To God's praise.

  328. So we'll sing verse 5 to 9,

  329. To God's praise.

  330. Amen.

  331. Come, Hu.

  332. And shall thy fervent jealousy burn like unto a hill?

  333. Amen.

  334. For that can also tend that to go?

  335. Or you'll sing from verse 6.

  336. Princeономette of the bus with ainsi presented to Class.

  337. Time,

  338. Ar Rock Centre,

  339. To God's praise,

  340. Lambë,

  341. no matter how long,

  342. Hear thy fervent jealousy chillin'.

  343. For that пл indic act shall I take zodiac Excellent.

  344. See her like a true affair.

  345. On his report, thy duty for the time ever known.

  346. And all those kingdoms within name have never called upon.

  347. For these are they who Jacob have devout with grueling.

  348. And they, his amity, his hope have caused ways to lie.

  349. Against us might not for mercies thy tender mercy show.

  350. Let there be a seedily for we all can be low.

  351. For thine is glory.

  352. Help us, Lord, to my Savior be.

  353. Deliver us for thine's sake.

  354. O march away our sin.

  355. Amen.

  356. We can turn back to our reading in Nehemiah chapter 2.

    Nehemiah 2 chapter mention

  357. And we can read again at verse 17.

  358. Nehemiah chapter 2 at verse 17.

    Nehemiah 2 chapter mention

  359. Then I said to them,

  360. You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates opened.

  361. Come, let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer suffer derision.

  362. And I told them of the hand of my God that had been upon me for good,

  363. and also of the words that the king had spoken to me.

  364. And they said, Let us rise up and build.

  365. So they strengthened their hands for the good work.

  366. A few weeks ago now we were looking at chapter 1 of Nehemiah.

  367. That Nehemiah and the burden that Nehemiah had when he heard of the ruin that Jerusalem was in

  368. and the people and their despondency.

  369. And he was burdened for them.

  370. And it was a burden that he was taking to the Lord.

  371. Last week we were looking at the New Testament and we were looking at Colossians chapter 4.

    Colossians 4 chapter mention

  372. We were seeing Paul's team ministry and the people that he had around him

  373. and how so many people were used in different ways for the Lord.

  374. Times there as well.

  375. And we're thinking of linking the two together.

  376. However, we see Nehemiah, the fact that was to be done in Jerusalem,

  377. he couldn't do it alone in the same way as Paul couldn't do the ministry of the gospel

  378. that he would hope to do without having those who could help him and be with him along the way as well.

  379. We're thinking there of two men who were strong leaders in the church in their day.

  380. But since we looked at these two passages over these last few weeks,

  381. have you considered them for yourself?

  382. Have you thought about what does it mean for me as a member,

  383. as an adherent here in the congregation in Stornoway?

  384. What do these passages say to me in my own role in the church

  385. and how I might be serving the Lord or how I may be able to serve the Lord?

  386. Has it made a difference to the burden that you feel for this place

  387. or the vision that you have for this place, for this congregation, for this town,

  388. for the work of the Lord?

  389. As we return to Nehemiah this evening in chapter 2,

  390. we return with that remembrance of his burden for Jerusalem in our minds as well

  391. and the burden and vision that he had in Jerusalem.

  392. We saw in the opening chapter, chapter 1,

  393. a simple question that Nehemiah asked of his brother who had come to visit.

  394. A simple question turned his life upside down.

  395. In the beginning of chapter 1,

  396. Hanani, his brother, had come from Judah.

  397. Nehemiah asked him just a simple question,

  398. How are they in Jerusalem?

  399. How are they in Jerusalem?

  400. And the answer that he heard in verse 3 of chapter 1 was this,

  401. They said to him,

  402. The remnant there in the province who had survived the exile is in great trouble and shame.

  403. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates are destroyed by fire.

  404. It wasn't the answer he would have been hoping for.

  405. And it was an answer that left him troubled,

  406. so much trouble that he said in verse 4 that as soon as I heard these words,

  407. I sat down and wept and mourned for days.

  408. He was distraught at what he had been told,

  409. about what he was hearing about his beloved Jerusalem and its people.

  410. They were in destruction.

  411. They were in shame.

  412. But he wanted to do something about it.

  413. There was a burden on him that would not go.

  414. And that is sometimes the way the Lord works in his people.

  415. Often he gives people a burden.

  416. A burden for a particular people.

  417. For a particular place.

  418. For a particular work.

  419. A burden that just will not go away.

  420. A burden that won't go away until we do something about it.

  421. And Nehemiah couldn't let this go until something was done about it.

  422. And do you know what makes this burden and vision of Nehemiah even more remarkable?

  423. This burden that he had for Jerusalem and its people.

  424. What makes it even more remarkable is this.

  425. He had never been there.

  426. He had never been in Jerusalem.

  427. He was born to parents who had been taken captive from Jerusalem.

  428. He was born about 900 miles away.

  429. As we read of him here, he's in Persia.

  430. In the capital of Persia, which was hundreds of miles away from Jerusalem.

  431. He'd never been there.

  432. And yet his heart was towards his homeland and his people.

  433. He just wouldn't know.

  434. And it made me think of how this year marked 100 years since the Metagama and the Marloch sailed from these shores.

  435. With hundreds of people belonging to our islands here who would never see this place again.

  436. And yet who had a great burden and a love for this place.

  437. And over the last year we've seen some of their family come over to see this place with a real heart and a longing and a burden for this place.

  438. But it begs the question of us.

  439. Do we have a real burden for this place?

  440. Do we have a real love for this place and its people?

  441. As we think of the kind of ruin that we're seeing around us again and again.

  442. The ruin that sin brings into our lives and into our communities.

  443. Does it make us weep and mourn?

  444. Does it give us a burden for this place to see the gospel going out here and making a difference to our people?

  445. And if we do, how do we grasp this burden prayerfully and practically?

  446. How do we seek to fulfill this burden and this vision for our own town and our place to be a place blessed by God?

  447. Well that's what we learn as we look to Nehemiah.

  448. And how his burden that he just couldn't let go.

  449. It became a reality.

  450. It became something that he saw the good hand of the Lord at work in in so many different ways.

  451. And how he encouraged and inspired a people to be involved in the work to the point that they would say in verse 18,

  452. Let us rise up and build.

  453. There are lessons we learn from Nehemiah and his leadership.

  454. About a godly vision.

  455. And about trusting God and going forward in his strength.

  456. Paul in Colossians, he couldn't do the ministry alone.

  457. The spread of the gospel, he couldn't do it by himself.

  458. Nehemiah here, he couldn't rebuild the walls by himself.

  459. He couldn't see God's hand for good upon the people by himself.

  460. And neither can we.

  461. We need a shared vision.

  462. A vision that we all have and a burden that we all have together for the good of this place.

  463. One church leader put it like this.

  464. A godly vision is right for the times.

  465. Right for the church and right for the people.

  466. A godly vision promotes faith rather than fear.

  467. A godly vision motivates people to action.

  468. A godly vision requires risk taking.

  469. A godly vision glorifies God and not people.

  470. That's what Nehemiah's vision and his burden was like.

  471. Let's pray that that would be our vision and our burden here in this town and for the place where the Lord has put us today.

  472. To keep us going in the work of the Lord.

  473. Encouraged.

  474. Encouraged.

  475. Good hand of the Lord upon us in all that we go to do for the Lord.

  476. We're not going to look at every detail of the book of Nehemiah.

  477. But we're going to take steps from key points here and look how we can learn from Nehemiah and the work that the people were involved in.

  478. We read the whole of chapter 2.

  479. But we're going to look at just the latter half of it.

  480. Verse 9 down to the end of the chapter.

  481. But we see the context in the whole of this chapter just for what was happening.

  482. But you notice that there's a big change between verse 8 and verse 9.

  483. Both in terms of time and in the place where they're based.

  484. In verse 8, Nehemiah is still with the king in Persia.

  485. He is still 900 miles away from Jerusalem.

  486. But in verse 9, we've jumped forward probably around four months in time.

  487. Nehemiah and those who were with him have traveled that journey of around 900 miles from Susa down to Jerusalem.

  488. And this is where we pick it up.

  489. So the time has moved on about four months.

  490. The place has moved on.

  491. Coming to Jerusalem.

  492. Nehemiah seeing the place for the first time.

  493. And tonight we're going to look at three lessons from Nehemiah's leadership here.

  494. As he comes to share his vision and his burden with the people of Jerusalem.

  495. And there's three things, three lessons to take with us.

  496. First is this, a time to rest.

  497. Secondly, we see a time to review.

  498. And then thirdly, a time to rise.

  499. So first, a time to rest.

  500. You might expect Nehemiah to arrive at Jerusalem and immediately to get going with the work.

  501. After all, when you read through the destruction that you see in the walls, how they're demolished, the gates are burned.

  502. There's so much to be done.

  503. You think he's just going to get going with it.

  504. That may be our attitude.

  505. When we see there's something that needs to be done.

  506. We just need to get on.

  507. There's so much to do.

  508. Let's just get on with it.

  509. Well, four months of traveling over 900 miles through harsh countryside would take its toll on anyone.

  510. And so verse 11 gives us our first key lesson from Nehemiah.

  511. And that is, fresh for the task.

  512. In verse 11 it says,

  513. Nehemiah, like us all, had his limits.

  514. He had needs, both physical and spiritual needs, to be watched and guarded against first and foremost.

  515. Three days after arriving in Jerusalem, he rested.

  516. He didn't get on with the work.

  517. Immediately, he took these days to rest, both physically and spiritually.

  518. And it's interesting how you look at this chapter in Nehemiah.

  519. Nehemiah had come to Jerusalem to rebuild the walls.

  520. And if you go to the previous book, Ezra.

  521. And Ezra was similar to Nehemiah.

  522. He was used by God, but for rebuilding the temple.

  523. In Ezra chapter 8, verse 32, it says this.

    Ezra 8:32

  524. It says this.

  525. We came to Jerusalem, and there we remained three days.

  526. They arrived in Jerusalem, and for three days they rested in the days of Ezra.

  527. The same is true of Nehemiah.

  528. We went to Jerusalem, and we were there three days.

  529. So there's got to be a lesson there for us to learn.

  530. Nehemiah was seeing how much there was to be done, and yet his immediate priority was to rest.

  531. And how important is rest?

  532. And how important is rest when we think of being involved in the world of the Lord today?

  533. Today, the first day of the week, the Lord's Day, it's a reminder to us of the importance of rest.

  534. It's a creation ordinance, as we call it.

  535. Something that God put in place from the very beginning.

  536. The Lord's Day, the seventh day, was to be a day of rest.

  537. And we know ourselves that when we become tired, we're not as effective.

  538. And if we are tired over a long period of time, our work will suffer.

  539. Our production is not going to be what it should be.

  540. Our service for the Lord isn't going to be what it should be.

  541. And if the Lord is commanding rest for his people, we have to make sure that we are allowing for it.

  542. Both personally, but also as a congregation.

  543. That we don't burn people out.

  544. Ezra knew it.

  545. Nehemiah knew it.

  546. The Lord Jesus himself knew the importance of rest.

  547. Of keeping fresh in the work.

  548. In the New Testament, you read of the Lord Jesus at the death of John the Baptist.

  549. In Matthew 14, verse 13, after he'd heard the news,

    Matthew 14:13

  550. When Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself.

  551. Something you see often in the life of Jesus.

  552. He finds a place to be by himself.

  553. But he also knew the importance of it for his disciples too.

  554. In Mark 6, verse 31,

    Mark 6:31

  555. Jesus having sent his disciples out two by two to go on the work of the spread of the gospel,

  556. They had come back.

  557. And he said to them as they returned,

  558. He said to them,

  559. Come away by yourselves to a desolate place and rest a while.

  560. For many were coming and going,

  561. And they had no leisure even to eat.

  562. The importance of rest is there for us to see.

  563. And that's what the first lesson that we learn from Nehemiah.

  564. He came to Jerusalem and was there three days.

  565. We have to guard ourselves carefully.

  566. To guard our people carefully from overexertion,

  567. From being overtired, overworked.

  568. When we are tired, like I said,

  569. We won't achieve as much.

  570. The enthusiasm will wane.

  571. It will not be what it should be.

  572. Rest is crucial.

  573. It's a story of two woodcutters.

  574. One was experienced.

  575. One was just starting out,

  576. But young and enthusiastic.

  577. And he challenged the older man.

  578. He challenged him to an all-day woodcutting competition.

  579. And the challenger, the young man,

  580. Worked hard all day.

  581. Hardly stopped all day.

  582. Just a brief lunch break.

  583. And yet every time he was looking across to the older woodcutter,

  584. He seemed to be sitting down and resting.

  585. He couldn't understand it.

  586. And he thought,

  587. I'll be way ahead in this contest.

  588. But at the end of the day,

  589. The challenger was surprised to find

  590. That the older man had chopped so much more wood than he had.

  591. And he couldn't understand it.

  592. I don't get it.

  593. He said,

  594. Every time I looked,

  595. You seem to be taking a rest.

  596. And yet I was working hard all day.

  597. The older woodsman said,

  598. But you didn't notice

  599. That I was sharpening my axe

  600. Every time I sat down to take a rest.

  601. And so often,

  602. We can be like that ourselves too.

  603. We can just keep going,

  604. Thinking we're affecting,

  605. We're doing so much.

  606. When in reality,

  607. We could be achieving so much more

  608. Just with a bit of rest.

  609. We need physical rest,

  610. But we also need spiritual rest as well.

  611. Because Nehemiah in these three days

  612. Had time to spend with God as well.

  613. Because you find that God had put this burden

  614. In his heart.

  615. And God was still putting this burden

  616. In his heart as well.

  617. In verse 12 it says,

  618. And I told no one

  619. What my God had put in my heart

  620. To do for Jerusalem.

  621. It's a continuous tense.

  622. It's an ongoing burden

  623. That the Lord is placing in his heart.

  624. And he was taking his time now

  625. To be close with God.

  626. And again,

  627. There's a lesson there for ourselves as well.

  628. To allow ourselves time

  629. To listen to God

  630. Before rushing in

  631. To the work

  632. That we seek to do for the Lord.

  633. To be still

  634. And listen

  635. To the Lord.

  636. We look around

  637. And there's no shortage

  638. Of things to do.

  639. There's no shortage of things

  640. That we could

  641. And perhaps should do.

  642. But Nehemiah gives us this lesson.

  643. Take time

  644. To be fresh

  645. For the work.

  646. Take time

  647. To listen

  648. To the Lord.

  649. So that's the first lesson

  650. That we learn

  651. From Nehemiah.

  652. The second lesson

  653. Is this

  654. Time

  655. To review.

  656. You would think

  657. After three days

  658. Refreshing himself

  659. Right, it's time

  660. Now to get on

  661. With the work.

  662. But like any good leader

  663. He needs to know

  664. What's ahead of him.

  665. And so he takes time

  666. To review.

  667. To see himself

  668. What is happening

  669. Or what has happened

  670. In Jerusalem.

  671. From verse 13

  672. Down there

  673. To verse 16.

  674. You see

  675. He takes his time

  676. Going around the city.

  677. Inspecting

  678. Everything that is

  679. Going on

  680. Around him.

  681. An American businessman

  682. Called Max Dupree.

  683. He speaks

  684. He spoke of the

  685. Responsibility

  686. Involved

  687. In leadership.

  688. He was a successful

  689. Businessman

  690. And he also wrote

  691. Many books

  692. On leadership.

  693. And he said this

  694. The first responsibility

  695. Of a leader

  696. Is to define

  697. Reality.

  698. Leaders need

  699. To have a good picture

  700. Of what is really

  701. Going on

  702. Around them.

  703. And they need

  704. To help others

  705. Take an honest

  706. Look

  707. At this reality.

  708. Now you might

  709. Say to yourself

  710. Why are we going

  711. To listen

  712. To a businessman?

  713. What does he

  714. Have to say

  715. To us

  716. Here in

  717. Stornoway

  718. Tonight?

  719. Well the key

  720. Lesson from

  721. Max Dupree

  722. Was yes

  723. He was a very

  724. Successful

  725. Businessman

  726. But first

  727. And foremost

  728. He was a

  729. Christian.

  730. He was a

  731. Christian

  732. Who put the

  733. Lord

  734. Front and

  735. Foremost

  736. In everything

  737. That he did.

  738. He is saying

  739. When we're

  740. Looking at

  741. Doing anything

  742. And work

  743. And serving

  744. As leaders

  745. In the church

  746. That we put

  747. The Lord

  748. First

  749. Of course

  750. We listen

  751. We learn

  752. From all

  753. Kinds of

  754. People

  755. From all

  756. Kinds of

  757. Christians

  758. From all

  759. Kinds of

  760. Walks

  761. Of life

  762. And the need

  763. For reality

  764. Is there

  765. Before us

  766. Not to be

  767. Blinkered

  768. To what is

  769. Going on

  770. Around us

  771. Not to

  772. Think

  773. That we

  774. Have all

  775. The answers

  776. And know

  777. Exactly

  778. What's

  779. Going on

  780. And what

  781. Needs

  782. To be

  783. Done

  784. We need

  785. To take

  786. Time

  787. To review

  788. We need

  789. To take

  790. Time

  791. To listen

  792. And to

  793. See for

  794. Ourselves

  795. What is

  796. Happening

  797. Around us

  798. What are

  799. People

  800. Thinking

  801. How are

  802. They engaging

  803. With the

  804. World

  805. Or not

  806. Engaging

  807. With the

  808. Gospel

  809. We know

  810. They need

  811. The Gospel

  812. But do

  813. We really

  814. Know how

  815. To speak

  816. To them

  817. About it

  818. Do we

  819. Know the

  820. Needs

  821. Of those

  822. Who are

  823. Around us

  824. We can

  825. Learn

  826. From others

  827. And we

  828. Shouldn't

  829. Be scared

  830. To do

  831. So

  832. There's a

  833. Great example

  834. For us

  835. In scripture

  836. One of the

  837. Greatest

  838. Leaders of

  839. God's

  840. People

  841. Moses

  842. Who had

  843. Led the

  844. Children of

  845. Israel

  846. From Egypt

  847. Into the

  848. Wilderness

  849. He was

  850. Struggling

  851. To keep

  852. On top

  853. Of things

  854. At one

  855. Point

  856. He was

  857. Trying to

  858. Do it

  859. All by

  860. Himself

  861. He needed

  862. To hear

  863. Someone else

  864. Coming

  865. With some

  866. Advice

  867. To him

  868. And it

  869. Was his

  870. Father-in-law

  871. Jethro

  872. Who came

  873. To him

  874. And saw

  875. What was

  876. Going on

  877. And said

  878. To him

  879. What you

  880. Are doing

  881. Is not

  882. Good

  883. You and

  884. The people

  885. With you

  886. Will certainly

  887. Wear yourselves

  888. Out

  889. For this

  890. Thing is

  891. Too heavy

  892. For you

  893. You are

  894. Not able

  895. To do

  896. It

  897. Alone

  898. He didn't

  899. Take time

  900. To review

  901. Someone had

  902. To come

  903. To him

  904. And tell

  905. Him

  906. What you

  907. Are doing

  908. Is not

  909. Good

  910. But for

  911. Ourselves

  912. What we

  913. Learn here

  914. From Nehemiah

  915. Nehemiah

  916. Who has

  917. Known

  918. In

  919. Verse 8

  920. The good

  921. Hand of

  922. My God

  923. Was upon

  924. Me

  925. We learn

  926. That we

  927. Need

  928. To

  929. To

  930. To

  931. Define

  932. The reality

  933. Of what

  934. Is going

  935. On

  936. Around

  937. Us

  938. The last

  939. Nehemiah

  940. One

  941. I quoted

  942. A man

  943. Called

  944. George

  945. Barna

  946. Again

  947. A Christian

  948. Writer

  949. Who spoke

  950. About vision

  951. For the

  952. Church

  953. And one

  954. Aspect

  955. He spoke

  956. Of was

  957. This

  958. Vision

  959. Is a

  960. Result

  961. Of how

  962. We spent

  963. Much

  964. Time

  965. Absorbing

  966. The facts

  967. About the

  968. Community

  969. Taking

  970. Time

  971. To

  972. Think

  973. Things

  974. And this

  975. Is what

  976. Nehemiah

  977. Is doing

  978. Taking

  979. Time

  980. To himself

  981. To look

  982. At the

  983. Situation

  984. And notice

  985. How he

  986. Does it

  987. Discreetly

  988. In verse

  989. 12

  990. He says

  991. I arose

  992. In the

  993. Night

  994. And I

  995. Had a

  996. Few

  997. Men

  998. With me

  999. Just a

  1000. Small

  1001. Group

  1002. They went

  1003. Out

  1004. To review

  1005. The

  1006. Devastation

  1007. Of

  1008. Jerusalem

  1009. One of

  1010. The reasons

  1011. Was

  1012. Because

  1013. There was

  1014. Opposition

  1015. Sanballat

  1016. And Tobiah

  1017. We've heard

  1018. Mention of

  1019. In verse

  1020. 10

  1021. Will come

  1022. Back

  1023. Again

  1024. God

  1025. Willing

  1026. But there

  1027. Was those

  1028. Who were

  1029. Opposed

  1030. To the

  1031. Work

  1032. So he

  1033. Was doing

  1034. It

  1035. Discreetly

  1036. Doing it

  1037. Quietly

  1038. But taking

  1039. Some trusted

  1040. Men with

  1041. Him

  1042. To see

  1043. What was

  1044. Going on

  1045. Around

  1046. Is a

  1047. Bit like

  1048. He was

  1049. Starting

  1050. To grow

  1051. His team

  1052. But a

  1053. Review

  1054. Did

  1055. To be

  1056. Carried

  1057. Out

  1058. To see

  1059. The size

  1060. Of the

  1061. Task

  1062. Everywhere

  1063. They looked

  1064. The walls

  1065. Were in

  1066. Devastation

  1067. There was

  1068. Parts

  1069. They couldn't

  1070. Hardly

  1071. Get through

  1072. Because of

  1073. The devastation

  1074. That there

  1075. Was

  1076. But the

  1077. Review

  1078. Enabled

  1079. Them

  1080. To plan

  1081. And remember

  1082. Nehemiah's

  1083. Sorrow

  1084. In chapter

  1085. One

  1086. Heard

  1087. Of the

  1088. Devastation

  1089. Here he

  1090. Is now

  1091. Seeing it

  1092. For himself

  1093. For the

  1094. First time

  1095. And it

  1096. Could have

  1097. Made him

  1098. Go one

  1099. Of two

  1100. Ways

  1101. Just his

  1102. Sorrow

  1103. To consume

  1104. Him

  1105. At the

  1106. State of

  1107. Affairs

  1108. Before him

  1109. And perhaps

  1110. Looking in

  1111. The past

  1112. If only we

  1113. Had what

  1114. We once

  1115. Had

  1116. And losing

  1117. Focus

  1118. Or it

  1119. Could have

  1120. Put him

  1121. The other

  1122. Way

  1123. Determination

  1124. And trust

  1125. And faith

  1126. And hope

  1127. For the

  1128. Future

  1129. And that's

  1130. Where he

  1131. Goes

  1132. It gives

  1133. Him a

  1134. Determination

  1135. To know

  1136. The good

  1137. Hand of

  1138. The Lord

  1139. Upon them

  1140. And to

  1141. Go and

  1142. Do the

  1143. Work that

  1144. Was involved

  1145. And for

  1146. Ourselves we

  1147. Need to

  1148. Think of

  1149. This too

  1150. A review

  1151. Of what

  1152. We do

  1153. And why

  1154. We do

  1155. It

  1156. When we

  1157. See the

  1158. Devastation

  1159. Of sin

  1160. Around us

  1161. It may

  1162. Make us

  1163. Think of

  1164. Just a

  1165. Past

  1166. If only

  1167. Things were

  1168. The way

  1169. They once

  1170. Were

  1171. And we

  1172. Can get

  1173. Consumed

  1174. By that

  1175. Or it

  1176. Can put us

  1177. Another way

  1178. Determined

  1179. To go

  1180. Forward

  1181. In faith

  1182. Trusting

  1183. That rebuilding

  1184. Is possible

  1185. Trusting

  1186. That the

  1187. Lord

  1188. Is with us

  1189. We can

  1190. Know

  1191. The good

  1192. Hand of

  1193. The Lord

  1194. Upon us

  1195. The question

  1196. Is do we

  1197. Have that

  1198. Vision here

  1199. Do we

  1200. Have it

  1201. In ourselves

  1202. Do we

  1203. Have it

  1204. Collectively

  1205. Together

  1206. To review

  1207. What we

  1208. Are doing

  1209. And to

  1210. Ask ourselves

  1211. Challenging

  1212. Questions

  1213. At times

  1214. But to

  1215. Trust the

  1216. Lord

  1217. Going

  1218. Forward

  1219. The gospel

  1220. Doesn't

  1221. Change

  1222. But times

  1223. Change

  1224. People

  1225. Change

  1226. And we

  1227. Need to

  1228. Ask ourselves

  1229. Are we

  1230. Engaging in

  1231. The work

  1232. Of the

  1233. Gospel

  1234. In the

  1235. Best way

  1236. Possible

  1237. And doing

  1238. It all

  1239. For the

  1240. Glory

  1241. Of God

  1242. So the

  1243. Second

  1244. Lesson is

  1245. A time

  1246. To review

  1247. First

  1248. Rest

  1249. To be

  1250. Fresh

  1251. For the

  1252. Task

  1253. Second

  1254. A time

  1255. To review

  1256. But thirdly

  1257. And perhaps

  1258. More importantly

  1259. A time

  1260. To inspire

  1261. For the

  1262. Task

  1263. A time

  1264. To rise

  1265. When we

  1266. Look at

  1267. Nehemiah

  1268. As a leader

  1269. Here

  1270. This is where

  1271. You see him

  1272. Coming to the

  1273. Fore

  1274. He spent

  1275. His time

  1276. Resting

  1277. He spent

  1278. His time

  1279. Reviewing

  1280. But then you

  1281. See him in

  1282. Verse 7

  1283. 17 and

  1284. 18

  1285. Where we

  1286. See three

  1287. Things that

  1288. As a leader

  1289. He does

  1290. So well

  1291. First of all

  1292. You see what

  1293. He says there

  1294. In verse

  1295. 17

  1296. Then I

  1297. Said to

  1298. Them

  1299. This is him

  1300. Now beginning

  1301. To show his

  1302. Vision to

  1303. The rest

  1304. Of the

  1305. People

  1306. He says

  1307. You see

  1308. The trouble

  1309. We are in

  1310. There is

  1311. A responsibility

  1312. To define

  1313. Reality

  1314. A good

  1315. Leader

  1316. Must have

  1317. And here

  1318. Nehemiah

  1319. Doesn't hide

  1320. The troubles

  1321. He doesn't

  1322. Hide the

  1323. Issues that

  1324. Are before

  1325. Them

  1326. And he

  1327. Claims

  1328. These issues

  1329. Himself

  1330. He doesn't

  1331. Blame them

  1332. For not

  1333. Having done

  1334. Anything up

  1335. To this

  1336. Point

  1337. He doesn't

  1338. Look to

  1339. The past

  1340. And blame

  1341. Those who

  1342. Have maybe

  1343. Doing any

  1344. Failures in

  1345. The past

  1346. He says

  1347. This is

  1348. Our

  1349. Trouble

  1350. We are

  1351. In this

  1352. Together

  1353. You see

  1354. The trouble

  1355. We are

  1356. In

  1357. And that

  1358. Is how

  1359. We are

  1360. To be

  1361. As well

  1362. He feels

  1363. A part

  1364. Of it

  1365. And he

  1366. Makes the

  1367. People feel

  1368. A part

  1369. Of it

  1370. All

  1371. Together

  1372. Instead of

  1373. Looking to

  1374. Blame

  1375. He's looking

  1376. For a

  1377. Solution

  1378. And surely

  1379. That is

  1380. What inspires

  1381. A prayerful

  1382. People

  1383. Not to

  1384. Look to

  1385. Blame

  1386. Anyone

  1387. For the

  1388. Situation

  1389. We find

  1390. Ourselves

  1391. In today

  1392. In a

  1393. Spiritual

  1394. Way

  1395. But to

  1396. Look for

  1397. The solution

  1398. To look

  1399. To God

  1400. And to

  1401. Trust

  1402. In him

  1403. We are

  1404. In this

  1405. Trouble

  1406. Together

  1407. You see

  1408. The trouble

  1409. We are

  1410. In

  1411. How

  1412. Jerusalem

  1413. Lies

  1414. In ruins

  1415. And the

  1416. Gates

  1417. Are burned

  1418. There is

  1419. The reality

  1420. Of the

  1421. Situation

  1422. And we

  1423. Need

  1424. The reality

  1425. But we

  1426. Need to

  1427. Realize

  1428. We are

  1429. In this

  1430. Together

  1431. Be a

  1432. Collective

  1433. Vision

  1434. A

  1435. Collective

  1436. Burden

  1437. And that's

  1438. The second

  1439. Thing that we

  1440. See of

  1441. Nehemiah's

  1442. Leadership

  1443. Here

  1444. He inspires

  1445. We are

  1446. In this

  1447. Trouble

  1448. He says

  1449. But then

  1450. In the

  1451. Middle

  1452. Of verse

  1453. 17

  1454. He says

  1455. Come

  1456. Let us

  1457. Build the

  1458. Wall of

  1459. Jerusalem

  1460. That we

  1461. May no

  1462. Longer

  1463. Suffer

  1464. He gives

  1465. Them a

  1466. Call

  1467. And he

  1468. Gives

  1469. Them a

  1470. Purpose

  1471. Here

  1472. The work

  1473. Is put

  1474. Before them

  1475. But also

  1476. The goal

  1477. Not just

  1478. Doing something

  1479. For the sake

  1480. Of doing it

  1481. But doing it

  1482. With an

  1483. Outcome in

  1484. Mind

  1485. After reviewing

  1486. Where they

  1487. Should be

  1488. He says

  1489. Come

  1490. Let us

  1491. Build

  1492. Together

  1493. Let us

  1494. Build

  1495. The wall

  1496. Of Jerusalem

  1497. One

  1498. Commentator

  1499. Writing on

  1500. This verse

  1501. Says

  1502. Here is a

  1503. Man

  1504. Who is

  1505. Ready to

  1506. Work for

  1507. The Lord

  1508. But knows

  1509. Exactly

  1510. Why he

  1511. Is doing

  1512. It

  1513. Some

  1514. Church

  1515. Activities

  1516. Are habitually

  1517. Maintained

  1518. Largely

  1519. Because they

  1520. Have been

  1521. In existence

  1522. For some

  1523. Time

  1524. And the

  1525. Good people

  1526. Who work

  1527. In them

  1528. Are too

  1529. Busy to

  1530. Evaluate

  1531. Their

  1532. Purpose

  1533. Motives

  1534. And

  1535. Aims

  1536. Does that

  1537. Sound

  1538. Familiar

  1539. Does that

  1540. Sound like

  1541. Something

  1542. That we

  1543. Need to

  1544. Ask for

  1545. Ourselves

  1546. What are we

  1547. Doing and

  1548. Why

  1549. Getting one

  1550. Another to

  1551. Come and

  1552. Build the

  1553. Kingdom of

  1554. God

  1555. Here was

  1556. Nehemiah

  1557. The walls

  1558. Were burned

  1559. And ruined

  1560. The people

  1561. Were in

  1562. Dismay

  1563. And yet

  1564. He says

  1565. Come

  1566. Let us

  1567. Build

  1568. That we

  1569. May no

  1570. Longer

  1571. Suffer

  1572. Derision

  1573. That the

  1574. People of

  1575. God

  1576. May no

  1577. Longer

  1578. That the

  1579. Cause of

  1580. Christ

  1581. Would no

  1582. Longer

  1583. Be a

  1584. Choke

  1585. In this

  1586. Place

  1587. But that

  1588. Together

  1589. We would

  1590. See

  1591. The good

  1592. Hand of

  1593. The Lord

  1594. Upon us

  1595. Are we

  1596. Working

  1597. For the

  1598. Lord and

  1599. His

  1600. Cause

  1601. On our

  1602. Own

  1603. Or are

  1604. We doing

  1605. It together

  1606. Are we

  1607. Anticipating

  1608. The road

  1609. Ahead

  1610. As we

  1611. Look to

  1612. The church

  1613. As we

  1614. Look to

  1615. The work

  1616. Of the

  1617. Lord

  1618. May the

  1619. Lord

  1620. Inspire

  1621. Us

  1622. To have

  1623. A vision

  1624. And a

  1625. We too

  1626. Would come

  1627. To the

  1628. Point we

  1629. Have

  1630. In verse

  1631. 18

  1632. When we

  1633. See the

  1634. People

  1635. Together

  1636. As

  1637. Nehemiah

  1638. Says

  1639. I told

  1640. Them of

  1641. The hand

  1642. Of my

  1643. God

  1644. That had

  1645. Been upon

  1646. Me for

  1647. Good

  1648. He shared

  1649. The Lord

  1650. Had been

  1651. Good to

  1652. Him

  1653. How the

  1654. Lord

  1655. Had blessed

  1656. Him

  1657. And put

  1658. This

  1659. Bird

  1660. Heart

  1661. And the

  1662. People

  1663. Respond

  1664. By saying

  1665. This

  1666. Let us

  1667. Rise up

  1668. And build

  1669. It's no

  1670. Longer

  1671. Nehemiah

  1672. Speaking

  1673. It's the

  1674. People

  1675. Let us

  1676. Rise up

  1677. And build

  1678. They're

  1679. They're

  1680. Engaged

  1681. With

  1682. Nehemiah's

  1683. Burden

  1684. And they

  1685. Are on

  1686. His

  1687. Side

  1688. Let us

  1689. Rise up

  1690. So they

  1691. Strengthened

  1692. Their

  1693. Hands

  1694. For the

  1695. Good

  1696. Work

  1697. Is there

  1698. Any

  1699. Greater

  1700. Work

  1701. To be

  1702. Involved

  1703. With

  1704. Than the

  1705. Good

  1706. Work

  1707. Of

  1708. God

  1709. There's

  1710. Reality

  1711. In what

  1712. He

  1713. Says

  1714. We're

  1715. In

  1716. Trouble

  1717. The

  1718. Word

  1719. Are

  1720. Burned

  1721. Down

  1722. But there's

  1723. Also a

  1724. Reminder

  1725. It is

  1726. The

  1727. Good

  1728. Work

  1729. Of the

  1730. Lord

  1731. Get on

  1732. To it

  1733. That's

  1734. Tonight

  1735. Do we

  1736. Want to

  1737. Be

  1738. This

  1739. Kind

  1740. Of

  1741. People

  1742. Do we

  1743. Want to

  1744. Be a

  1745. People

  1746. Vision

  1747. And a

  1748. People

  1749. Of

  1750. Burden

  1751. For the

  1752. Lord

  1753. And for

  1754. His

  1755. Cause

  1756. Here

  1757. Urgency

  1758. In

  1759. Nehemiah

  1760. And the

  1761. Work

  1762. That

  1763. Was

  1764. To be

  1765. Done

  1766. And

  1767. There's

  1768. An

  1769. Urgency

  1770. For

  1771. Ourselves

  1772. Today

  1773. For

  1774. The

  1775. Gospel

  1776. To

  1777. Go

  1778. Out

  1779. To

  1780. This

  1781. Town

  1782. And

  1783. To
