  1. We're going to begin our worship by singing to God's praise in Psalm 46 in the Scottish Psalter.

  2. Psalm 46 in the Scottish Psalter, page 271 of the psalm book.

  3. We're going to sing from verse 1 down to verse 7.

  4. Psalm 46, page 271.

  5. God is our refuge and our strength in straits a present deed.

  6. Therefore, although the earth remove, we will not be afraid.

  7. Though hills amidst the seas be cast, the waters roaring make and troubled be.

  8. Yea, though the hills by swelling seas do shake.

  9. We'll sing verse 1 to 7 to God's praise and we stand to sing.

  10. Amen.

  11. God is our refuge and our strength in straits a present day.

  12. Therefore, although the earth remove, we will not be afraid.

  13. Though hills amidst the seas be cast, though waters roaring make and troubled be.

  14. In all the hills by swelling seas do shake.

  15. A river is whose streams to glad the city of our God.

  16. God is our refuge and our strength in the city of God.

  17. God is our refuge and our strength in the city of God.

  18. God is our refuge and our strength in the city of God.

  19. God is our refuge and our strength in the city of God.

  20. The Lord of hosts upon our side doth constantly remain.

  21. God is our strength in the city of our breve, Amen.

  22. The Holy God of hosts upon our prime

  23. Our gracious Father in heaven, we thank you for the privilege that is in coming to worship you today on such a glorious day, a beautiful day.

  24. Outside, we pray to know the blessing of your peace inside here as well, that you will be with us, Lord, and with all who gather to worship you this day.

  25. We thank you that together we come to look to you and to praise your name, even as we have sung, that you are our refuge and our strength, our help in times of trouble.

  26. And today, as we remember, Lord, so much that goes on in our world and has gone on in the past, especially on this Remembrance Sunday, we thank you for the freedom we enjoy, especially for those who gave their lives that we might have that freedom.

  27. And we pray that from the youngest to the oldest here, we will have a great sense of thankfulness for all that we have, all that is from your hand.

  28. And we pray today, Lord, that we will be still before you and just know that you are with us.

  29. So bless us, we pray, Lord.

  30. Look down upon us.

  31. Bless the young ones as they will go through to the Sunday school in a few moments.

  32. Lord, be with them there and watch over us all as a people here, pardoning all our sins as we ask it all in Jesus' name.

  33. Amen.

  34. Boys and girls, before you go through to the hall for Sunday school classes, I just want to say a few words to you.

  35. Today is Remembrance Sunday and yesterday was Remembrance Day, the 11th of November.

  36. It was a significant date in our calendar because we look back over a number of years and to this day and we remember those who have given such a great sacrifice for our freedom.

  37. Many lost their lives in conflict in the past and today we remember too that around the world there are many conflicts going on.

  38. And we do look to God to help in these times and that he might give us peace.

  39. But there's something that we see at this time that reminds us just to pause for a few moments in remembrance.

  40. And that is the poppy.

  41. You'll see it, people wearing it today and you'll see it in different places.

  42. I'm sure you've seen it during this week.

  43. The poppy is seen at this time and it just reminds us of people who have given their lives.

  44. I wanted to show you a poppy that was made for the church here.

  45. It was by someone who comes to the Friday at the Free.

  46. And a few weeks ago they gave us this.

  47. And it's a number of poppies that have been knitted and then sewn together to make one big wreath.

  48. And then in the middle, maybe you can't see it, but this black strip has words on it that says,

  49. Lest we forget.

  50. We are to remember what many people did for us in the past.

  51. And that is really what the poppy is about.

  52. It's a reminder for us.

  53. It was first used in 1921.

  54. Not long after the end of the First World War.

  55. And the poppy was significant because after the war ended, there was a number of fields,

  56. especially in France, where so much devastation was left.

  57. It was just a place of mud.

  58. And they were thinking, could anything grow here once again after all these years of war?

  59. And the first thing that started to grow on the ground was the poppy.

  60. And some of the fields ended up just full of poppies, red in color.

  61. And it's a powerful reminder to us, especially when you even think of the color red,

  62. when you think of sacrifices made, number of people who died in conflicts over many years.

  63. And somebody said at the end of the First World War,

  64. when you go home, tell them of us and say, for your tomorrow, we give our today.

  65. And again, it's just a powerful reminder to us of the sacrifice that was made for us to enjoy freedom,

  66. to be able to come to church, to be able to live our lives,

  67. to be able to go to Sunday school, to enjoy our freedom.

  68. But our greatest reminder today of our freedom is that another one gave his life,

  69. the Lord Jesus Christ.

  70. Our freedom from sin came at a price.

  71. And again, the color red reminds us of that,

  72. that Jesus shed his blood on the cross,

  73. that we might have freedom from our sins.

  74. So today, we do remember those who gave their lives and continue to give life for our freedom.

  75. But above all, we remember the Lord Jesus Christ,

  76. who died for our peace and for our salvation and our security,

  77. that through him we might have life and life eternal.

  78. So may God bless us today as a people and as a nation and indeed as a world

  79. as we think of these things and pray for God's peace and presence for all his people.

  80. Well, we'll say the Lord's Prayer together now.

  81. Let's say the Lord's Prayer.

  82. Amen.

  83. Well, there's again, sing to God's praise.

  84. This time we're singing in Psalm 139a.

  85. This is in the Sing Psalms version.

  86. Psalm 139a.

  87. And we're going to sing from verse 13 down to verse 18.

  88. This is on page 181 of the psalm book.

  89. Psalm 139a and at verse 13.

  90. A reminder to us that the Lord knows all about us and all his people.

  91. For you, O Lord, created me.

  92. You wove me on your loom.

  93. My inmost being you have formed within my mother's womb.

  94. Because I'm wonderfully made, with all your praise I'll tell.

  95. Your workmanship is marvelous.

  96. And this I know full well.

  97. We'll sing from verse 13 to 18 to God's praise.

  98. For you, O Lord, created me.

  99. You hold me on your loom.

  100. My inmost being you have formed within my mother's womb.

  101. Because I'm wonderfully made, with all your praise I tell.

  102. Your workmanship is marvelous.

  103. And this I know full well.

  104. When in the secret place my frame was made before my birth.

  105. You saw my body yet conformed within the depths of earth.

  106. And all the days that I should live, which you ordained for me,

  107. Were written in your book, O Lord, before they came to me.

  108. O God, how precious are your thoughts.

  109. I scarred them from afar.

  110. And as I seek to grasp them all,

  111. How numberless they are.

  112. Were I to count them they would be,

  113. More than the grains of sand.

  114. When I awake, I am with you.

  115. Still safe within your hands.

  116. Amen.

  117. Well, we'll turn together to read in God's word now in the Old Testament

  118. in the book of Ecclesiastes.

  119. And we're reading in chapter 3.

  120. Ecclesiastes chapter 3.

    Ecclesiastes 3 chapter mention

  121. You know, the book of Psalms and Proverbs and then Ecclesiastes.

  122. Ecclesiastes chapter 3.

    Ecclesiastes 3 chapter mention

  123. And we can read the whole of this chapter together.

  124. For everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven.

  125. A time to be born and a time to die.

  126. A time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted.

  127. A time to kill and a time to heal.

  128. A time to break down and a time to build up.

  129. A time to weep and a time to laugh.

  130. A time to mourn and a time to dance.

  131. A time to cast away stones and a time to gather stones together.

  132. A time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing.

  133. A time to seek and a time to lose.

  134. A time to keep and a time to cast away.

  135. A time to tear and a time to sow.

  136. A time to keep silence and a time to speak.

  137. A time to love and a time to hate.

  138. A time for war and a time for peace.

  139. What gain has the worker from his toil?

  140. I have seen the business that God has given to the children of man to be busy with.

  141. He has made everything beautiful in its time.

  142. Also he has put enmity into eternity into man's heart.

  143. Yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end.

  144. I perceive that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live.

  145. Also that everyone should eat and drink and take pleasure in all his toil.

  146. This is God's gift to man.

  147. I perceive that whatever God does endures forever.

  148. Nothing can be added to it.

  149. Not anything taken from it.

  150. God has done it so that people fear before him.

  151. That which is already has been.

  152. That which is to be already has been.

  153. And God seeks what has been driven away.

  154. Moreover I saw under the sun that in the place of justice even there was wickedness.

  155. And in the place of righteousness even there was wickedness.

  156. I said in my heart God will judge the righteous and the wicked.

  157. For there is a time for every matter and for every work.

  158. I said in my heart with regard to the children of man that God is testing them that they may see that they themselves are but beasts.

  159. For what happens to the children of man and what happens to the beasts is the same.

  160. As one dies so dies the other.

  161. They all have the same breath and man has no advantage over the beasts.

  162. For all is vanity.

  163. All go to one place.

  164. All are from the dust and to dust all return.

  165. Who knows whether the spirit of man goes upwards and the spirit of the beast goes down into the earth.

  166. So I saw there is nothing better than that a man should rejoice in his work.

  167. For that is his lot.

  168. Who can bring him to see what will be after him.

  169. Amen.

  170. And may God bless that reading of his word.

  171. Let's again just bow our heads in a word of prayer.

  172. Let us pray.

  173. Lord our gracious God as we continue in your presence today.

  174. We thank you that your promise is of your presence with your people.

  175. We have such great promises in your word that never will you leave us.

  176. Never will you forsake us.

  177. We have sung of these promises in Psalm 46 that God is our refuge and our strength.

  178. And all of these things remind us that we need you.

  179. And where would we be without you?

  180. And even in times of trouble and conflict as we remember today.

  181. We thank you that you are the God of heaven and earth.

  182. That you are the God who is sovereign over all things.

  183. That you are the one who rules on high and has plans and purposes even that we cannot comprehend at times.

  184. We cannot see or understand.

  185. And yet we look to your word and we thank you that you remind us through it.

  186. That as we look to the things in this world from our own perspective that we seek, where we seek understanding we cannot find it.

  187. But yet when we look above, when we look to you as God of heaven and earth, that you are able to help us.

  188. That you are able to give us a peace in the midst of trouble.

  189. A peace that passes all understanding.

  190. For your word is a word of life.

  191. You have made us for a purpose, Lord.

  192. You have formed us.

  193. You have marked our days.

  194. And we pray, Lord, that you will help us even as we live and breathe in this earth.

  195. That we would seek to do all for your glory.

  196. That we would seek to draw near to you and come and offer up worship and praise to you.

  197. That even today as you remind us through your word of a time for everything.

  198. That you will help us, Lord, to seek understanding and wisdom.

  199. Not in our own selves or in anything of this world.

  200. But in you.

  201. That your spirit will minister to us and help us to have understanding.

  202. And we do pray today, Lord, for our world.

  203. And we pray, O Lord, in the midst of a day of remembrance.

  204. That you will hear your praying people.

  205. That you will look down upon us and hear a people who cry.

  206. A people who weep.

  207. A people who mourn.

  208. And we pray, Lord, that you will come in your power.

  209. That you will come to bring peace and to bring comfort.

  210. In the midst of such devastating situations.

  211. We do pray, Lord, that you will remember us as a people.

  212. Even as you have done in the past.

  213. When you have brought times of conflict to an end as we remember today.

  214. We give thanks, O Lord, for the many occasions that you have brought nations and people.

  215. Through such difficult days.

  216. Such dark days.

  217. But you are a God who has been able to bring peace when it seemed impossible.

  218. And even today, as we think of things that are impossible for ourselves.

  219. We thank you that all things are possible with you.

  220. And so, Lord, hear our prayers.

  221. Hear us, Lord, and look down upon us.

  222. And do us good, we ask.

  223. And we thank you that today is a day to rejoice.

  224. Today is a day when we are reminded of your great power.

  225. A power that is life and resurrection.

  226. That on this first day of the week we come to worship you as our Lord and as our God.

  227. Thankful for your Son, Christ Jesus.

  228. Who you sent into this world.

  229. That he would lay down his life for his people.

  230. And that he would take it up again.

  231. And that he would ascend on high.

  232. And that there is a promise that he will come again.

  233. That he will come, O Lord, to fulfill all scripture.

  234. That he will come to fulfill all promises of peace and life and life eternal.

  235. That he will come to bring his people together with him.

  236. To wipe away all the tears.

  237. And to fill our mouths with joy and singing and gladness.

  238. And we thank you for the promise of hope that is in your word.

  239. And we pray today that as your word is preached and proclaimed.

  240. Far and wide.

  241. That people will have ears to hear.

  242. And that your spirit will work in power among us.

  243. As a people here and throughout our nation and throughout the world.

  244. That your word will bear much fruit.

  245. And we do thank you, Lord, that in all our different needs.

  246. Our needs are there many.

  247. That we can come to you in prayer.

  248. You are the one who hears.

  249. And you are the only one who can help.

  250. In so many different situations we find ourselves.

  251. We think of those who are mourning and grieving at this time.

  252. And we commit them to you, O Lord.

  253. We ask your blessing, your comfort, your help towards them.

  254. We think of those who are unwell in hospital or homes.

  255. Or at home, their own homes.

  256. Lord, we pray for your help towards them.

  257. It may not be that healing will come.

  258. But we pray, Lord, for your healing of the soul.

  259. For you to bless as only you can.

  260. To give hope in the midst of such uncertain times.

  261. We pray for our people as a whole throughout our communities, Lord.

  262. That you will look down upon us.

  263. That you will bless us, Lord.

  264. That you will work in our midst.

  265. Bringing young and old.

  266. Boys and girls.

  267. Men and women.

  268. To profess Christ Jesus as Lord.

  269. Again, O Lord, we pray that you will revive our hearts.

  270. That you will stir us up, O Lord.

  271. That you will hear our prayers.

  272. And so we thank you, Lord, that you are the God who is with us.

  273. That you have not abandoned us.

  274. That even in moments of silence, Lord, you speak to us.

  275. For there is power even in silence.

  276. But we thank you, Lord, that you have spoken from the very beginning.

  277. That you created all things by the word of your power.

  278. And we thank you, too, that you have spoken to us and speak to us even now.

  279. Through your son, Christ Jesus.

  280. And we pray that as we hear your word even now.

  281. That you will speak to us all.

  282. That you will help us to hear.

  283. And repent and turn to you.

  284. And so we ask all these things acknowledging our sins.

  285. We know, Lord, how far short we fall.

  286. And we seek forgiveness for all our sins.

  287. We sin daily in thought, word, and indeed in action as your word says.

  288. And we just ask your forgiveness, Lord, that you will restore us.

  289. And that you will bless us.

  290. So be with us now and continue to go before us throughout this day.

  291. And throughout the days ahead, according to your will.

  292. That you will direct us in your paths.

  293. And hear our prayers.

  294. And all we ask, we ask in Jesus' precious name.

  295. Amen.

  296. Let's again sing to God's praise.

  297. Before we turn back to our reading in Ecclesiastes.

  298. We're singing in Psalm 76.

  299. In the Sing Psalms version, Psalm 76.

  300. Page 99 of the Psalm book.

  301. We can sing from verse 1 down to verse 9.

  302. Psalm 76 from verse 1 down to verse 9.

  303. In Judah's land, God's name is known.

  304. In Israel, he is great.

  305. In Salem, he has pitched his tent.

  306. His home in Zion set.

  307. He broke the fire.

  308. He broke the fire.

  309. He arrows there.

  310. The military might of those who with their swords and shields against us came to fight.

  311. We'll sing Psalm 76 verse 1 down to verse 9.

    Psalms 76:1

  312. Psalm 76.

  313. In Judah's land, God's name is known.

  314. In Israel, he is great.

  315. In Salem, he has pitched his tent.

  316. His home in Zion set.

  317. He broke the fire.

  318. He has pitched his tent.

  319. In Israel, he is great.

  320. He broke the fire.

  321. In Israel, he is great.

  322. In Israel, he is great.

  323. In Salem, he has pitched his tent.

  324. Salem, he has pitched his tent, his home in Zion set.

  325. He broke the fiery arrows there, the military might of those who with their swords and shields against us came to fight.

  326. Your splendor is more glorious on hillsides rich with praise.

  327. Brave men were stripped of hope, their squirt asleep in death they lay.

  328. Not one of those great warriors could lift his hands to kill.

  329. At your rebuke, O Jacob's God, ride there and heart lay still.

  330. For you alone are to be feared before you who can stand.

  331. Who can injure your anger, Lord, the judgments you command.

  332. From heaven your verdict was thrown out, and was hashed in awe.

  333. When you arose to save the poor and vindicate your law.

  334. Amen.

  335. Well, let's turn back to our reading in Ecclesiastes chapter 3.

    Ecclesiastes 3 chapter mention

  336. Ecclesiastes chapter 3, and it speaks here about a time for everything and how our times are in the hands of God.

    Ecclesiastes 3 chapter mention

  337. For everything there is a season and a time.

  338. For every matter under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die.

  339. And so it goes on down to verse 8 where it speaks of a time to love and a time to hate.

  340. A time for war and a time for peace.

  341. Newspaper headlines today are designed to catch your attention.

  342. So as you're looking online or as you're looking in the shops, you'll see the front pages.

  343. And you'll be drawn to them by a headline that stands out.

  344. And in order to do this nowadays, sometimes maybe truth is stretched.

  345. Or even at times maybe a downright lie is told in order to draw attention towards that.

  346. But there are times, however, when front page headlines do shock.

  347. And they shock us to the point where we maybe hope that it is a lie.

  348. That it is not true.

  349. The headlines in newspapers at times of war are often such a time.

  350. A time when we hope this headline may not be true.

  351. May the suffering that we're seeing not actually be happening.

  352. And today as we come on a day of remembrance,

  353. when we remember the sacrifices that have been made for us as a people,

  354. as we remember those who lost their lives and conflicts passed,

  355. and to this day who put their lives on the line so that we might enjoy peace.

  356. Our thoughts go back.

  357. We reflect looking back perhaps over many years.

  358. And when you look at newspaper headlines over the years,

  359. there have been times when they have shocked this nation's and many nations in the world.

  360. For example, the newspaper headline on the 5th of August 1914

  361. was Great Britain at war with Germany.

  362. Germany.

  363. From that date until the end of the First World War,

  364. four years later,

  365. the suffering was immense and there was a horrendous loss of life that ensued.

  366. But then, just a few years later,

  367. 25 years later,

  368. on the 3rd of September 1939,

  369. the newspaper headline once again had these same words on the front.

  370. Great Britain at war with Germany.

  371. And another conflict ensued over a long period of time,

  372. and again,

  373. many lives were lost.

  374. And these are headlines that our nation has seen at different times.

  375. In 1982 with the Falklands War,

  376. in 2003,

  377. and 2014

  378. with the Gulf War.

  379. And they are headlines that we see in our news in this past year,

  380. and even in these days in which we live.

  381. These things cause us to pause.

  382. And as we think of these things today,

  383. the Word of God speaks to us.

  384. It speaks into our situation today,

  385. as it always does,

  386. that even into the darkest of times,

  387. God's Word is able to give light,

  388. to give direction,

  389. and to give hope.

  390. And to give us a hope of a better future.

  391. To give us hope of a peaceful end.

  392. And above all,

  393. to give us hope for eternity.

  394. The Word here in Ecclesiastes,

  395. as we're going to look at,

  396. reminds us of the realities and the truths of life.

  397. Things that we often cannot understand.

  398. Things that we maybe see no reason for,

  399. and just don't have the answer to.

  400. God's Word helps us.

  401. Helps us in some measure to see

  402. that He has a plan and a purpose in all things.

  403. And the opening words of Ecclesiastes,

  404. if you go back to chapter 1,

  405. they're a little like a newspaper headline

  406. that's there to shock us as well,

  407. when it says in verse 1,

  408. the words of the preacher,

  409. the son of David, king of Jerusalem.

  410. Then verse 2, it just stands out to us.

  411. Vanity of vanities, says the preacher.

  412. Vanity of vanities.

  413. All is vanity.

  414. Another translation is

  415. meaningless, meaningless,

  416. all is meaningless.

  417. And surely you would expect

  418. something more from the Word of God

  419. than to say,

  420. meaningless, meaningless,

  421. all is meaningless.

  422. Well, there are two phrases

  423. that are used in these opening chapters

  424. of Ecclesiastes

  425. that help us to see a real contrast.

  426. And one is,

  427. as it speaks here of

  428. under the sun,

  429. as it says in chapter 1,

  430. verse 3,

  431. what does man gain by all the toil

  432. at which he toils?

  433. Under the sun.

  434. Under the sun is

  435. when we look at things

  436. in our own perspective,

  437. when we look at things,

  438. seeking to understand them

  439. by ourselves.

  440. But then as you go into chapter 3,

  441. the first verse there says,

  442. for everything,

  443. there is a season,

  444. a time for every matter

  445. under heaven.

  446. And there is the contrast for us.

  447. No longer are we looking at things

  448. under the sun,

  449. and seeking to look at things

  450. from our own perspective

  451. and our own understanding,

  452. but now we're beginning to see

  453. how the Lord gives us

  454. understanding and help,

  455. even to understand

  456. the difficult things in life.

  457. For everything,

  458. there is a season,

  459. there is a time,

  460. and a time for every matter

  461. under heaven.

  462. And this is under heaven,

  463. seeking to help us

  464. to understand things

  465. from God's perspective,

  466. to look to him

  467. in the things

  468. that we so often

  469. cannot understand,

  470. and to see

  471. that we can trust him.

  472. So that is what

  473. we are looking at today.

  474. In chapter 3,

  475. we see that things

  476. under heaven,

  477. things that are

  478. in the light

  479. of God's providence

  480. and God's control,

  481. that everything

  482. that happens

  483. in our world,

  484. as it speaks here

  485. of a time for everything,

  486. a time to be born,

  487. a time to die,

  488. a time to love,

  489. a time to hate,

  490. a time for war,

  491. and a time for peace.

  492. That we can see it

  493. as God is still

  494. in control,

  495. God is still sovereign,

  496. God is able

  497. to help.

  498. And so there's three things

  499. I want us to take

  500. from verse 1

  501. to verse 15

  502. in particular.

  503. What we're looking at here

  504. is a time

  505. for everything.

  506. And that's our first thought,

  507. a time

  508. for everything.

  509. But the second thing

  510. slightly changes that

  511. it's everything

  512. in its time.

  513. So we don't seek

  514. to rush things.

  515. Much as we would love

  516. things to change,

  517. that God has

  518. everything

  519. in its time.

  520. And then the third thing

  521. I want us to think about

  522. is a time

  523. to reflect,

  524. a time to think

  525. about these things.

  526. So first of all,

  527. we see

  528. a time

  529. for everything.

  530. The opening verses

  531. in chapter 3

  532. remind us

  533. of the seasons

  534. of life

  535. that we go through.

  536. Verse 2

  537. through to verse 8,

  538. it just shows us

  539. the way our lives

  540. so often go.

  541. Although these words

  542. were written so long ago,

  543. they still speak to us.

  544. Each of these phrases

  545. that you read,

  546. it still speaks to us

  547. to this very day.

  548. They're a reality

  549. of our lives

  550. in this world

  551. for every generation.

  552. And the words

  553. open with

  554. the main events

  555. in our lives,

  556. a time to be born

  557. and a time

  558. to die.

  559. But then you'll go down

  560. to verse 8.

  561. Everything else

  562. in between

  563. we have as well.

  564. But verse 8

  565. ends with

  566. a time

  567. of war

  568. and a time

  569. for war

  570. and a time

  571. for peace.

  572. Now when we think

  573. of the wars

  574. we remember today

  575. and the lives

  576. that were lost,

  577. so many of them

  578. were just

  579. young men

  580. and young

  581. women.

  582. And it's hard

  583. for us

  584. to understand.

  585. It's hard

  586. for us

  587. even as you

  588. go around

  589. cemeteries

  590. or you look

  591. at war memorials

  592. and you see

  593. every name

  594. inscribed there

  595. and you see

  596. their age

  597. beside it.

  598. Some just

  599. teenagers

  600. are in their

  601. twenties.

  602. So many

  603. lost their lives

  604. so young.

  605. It's hard

  606. for us

  607. to understand.

  608. And if you think

  609. of our own

  610. contexts

  611. here in our

  612. islands,

  613. as you think

  614. of how many

  615. have gone away

  616. from our

  617. islands

  618. never

  619. to return.

  620. It's hard

  621. for us

  622. to understand.

  623. Death

  624. is something

  625. that is always

  626. hard for us

  627. to understand

  628. no matter

  629. the context,

  630. no matter

  631. the situation.

  632. And Ecclesiastes

  633. opens,

  634. as I've said,

  635. with the vanity

  636. of life

  637. as it seems

  638. when everything

  639. is meaningless,

  640. the futility

  641. of life

  642. when we

  643. give no thought

  644. to God.

  645. nothing makes

  646. sense.

  647. Nothing

  648. we can

  649. understand

  650. in this

  651. world at

  652. times.

  653. And if we

  654. look at life

  655. through our

  656. own wisdom,

  657. if we look

  658. at life

  659. seeking to

  660. find meaning

  661. by ourselves,

  662. where does it

  663. lead us to

  664. but so often

  665. just despair?

  666. We just

  667. cannot

  668. understand.

  669. If you

  670. attempt to

  671. think of

  672. things apart

  673. from God,

  674. because we

  675. look at this

  676. world and we

  677. look at

  678. what has

  679. happened in

  680. our world

  681. in the past

  682. and we

  683. look at

  684. what's

  685. happening

  686. in our

  687. world today

  688. and there

  689. are so

  690. many,

  691. so many

  692. heartbreaking

  693. things that

  694. have happened

  695. and are

  696. happening

  697. and we

  698. struggle to

  699. have answers

  700. for them

  701. and it

  702. only leads

  703. us to

  704. grief

  705. and to

  706. despair.

  707. There seems

  708. to be no

  709. meaning and

  710. no hope

  711. in it.

  712. and even

  713. as we

  714. come into

  715. chapter 3

  716. and look

  717. at things

  718. as a

  719. matter

  720. under

  721. heaven,

  722. as we

  723. begin to

  724. see in

  725. the light

  726. of God's

  727. works of

  728. providence,

  729. as we

  730. begin to

  731. see that

  732. God is in

  733. control,

  734. still we

  735. can struggle

  736. to understand

  737. and that

  738. is where

  739. faith comes

  740. in,

  741. to believe

  742. in God

  743. and to

  744. trust

  745. him,

  746. to see

  747. that with

  748. him there

  749. is hope

  750. because God

  751. has appointed

  752. a season

  753. and a time

  754. for everything,

  755. for our

  756. lives and

  757. for the

  758. lives of

  759. all people.

  760. Think of

  761. the words

  762. that we

  763. sang in

  764. Psalm 139.

  765. In

  766. verse 15

  767. it says,

  768. you saw

  769. my body

  770. yet unformed

  771. within the

  772. depths of

  773. earth and

  774. all the

  775. days that

  776. I should

  777. live which

  778. you ordained

  779. for me were

  780. written in

  781. your book,

  782. O Lord,

  783. before they

  784. came to

  785. be.

  786. You see

  787. there that

  788. God has

  789. everything in

  790. his hands.

  791. There is a

  792. time for

  793. everything.

  794. And so

  795. when it

  796. says there

  797. is a time

  798. to be

  799. born and

  800. a time

  801. to die,

  802. when it

  803. says there

  804. is a time

  805. for war

  806. and a time

  807. for peace,

  808. we see

  809. that some

  810. are born

  811. for a

  812. time of

  813. war,

  814. some are

  815. born for

  816. a time

  817. of peace,

  818. and some

  819. are born

  820. for both.

  821. Everyone's

  822. providence

  823. in life

  824. is different.

  825. And it

  826. can all

  827. seem

  828. meaningless,

  829. but here

  830. the only

  831. solution to

  832. meaningness

  833. in life

  834. is to

  835. see the

  836. sovereignty

  837. of God,

  838. that he

  839. is in

  840. control,

  841. that there

  842. is indeed

  843. a time

  844. for

  845. everything.

  846. As I

  847. shared with

  848. the children

  849. before they

  850. went through,

  851. these words

  852. are often

  853. used at

  854. time of

  855. remembrance

  856. for our

  857. tomorrow.

  858. They gave

  859. their

  860. today

  861. a time

  862. for

  863. everything.

  864. They

  865. sacrificed

  866. that we

  867. might have

  868. a freedom

  869. to live.

  870. We don't

  871. always

  872. understand

  873. this life,

  874. but God

  875. is in

  876. control.

  877. The poem

  878. The Weaver's

  879. Shuttle

  880. speaks so

  881. powerfully

  882. into our

  883. sort of

  884. lack of

  885. understanding.

  886. As it

  887. says,

  888. not till

  889. the loom

  890. is silent

  891. and the

  892. shuttles

  893. cease to

  894. fly,

  895. shall God

  896. unroll the

  897. canvas and

  898. explain the

  899. reason why.

  900. The dark

  901. threads are

  902. as needful

  903. in the

  904. weaver's

  905. skillful

  906. hand as

  907. the threads

  908. of gold

  909. and silver

  910. in the

  911. pattern he

  912. has planned.

  913. As we

  914. think of

  915. meaning

  916. that God

  917. gives to

  918. life,

  919. the things

  920. that we

  921. don't

  922. understand,

  923. ultimately

  924. it brings

  925. us to

  926. the cross

  927. and to

  928. see there

  929. even the

  930. darkest of

  931. days.

  932. As there

  933. was darkness

  934. at midday

  935. as Jesus

  936. was crucified,

  937. nothing

  938. seemed to

  939. make sense

  940. even to

  941. God's

  942. people then,

  943. but God

  944. had a

  945. plan and

  946. a purpose.

  947. He is

  948. the

  949. resurrection

  950. and the

  951. life.

  952. There is

  953. a time

  954. for

  955. everything.

  956. The

  957. second

  958. thing we

  959. see here

  960. is that

  961. everything

  962. is in

  963. its

  964. time.

  965. Written

  966. 3,000

  967. years ago,

  968. these words

  969. in Ecclesiastes

  970. still speak

  971. powerfully

  972. to us.

  973. What was

  974. happening

  975. then still

  976. happens

  977. to this

  978. day.

  979. In

  980. chapter 1

  981. verse 9

  982. it says,

  983. there is

  984. nothing new

  985. under the

  986. sun.

  987. And even

  988. as we

  989. look in

  990. the world

  991. in which

  992. we live

  993. today,

  994. we say

  995. there is

  996. nothing new

  997. under the

  998. sun.

  999. As we

  1000. think of

  1001. man's

  1002. inhumanity

  1003. to man,

  1004. there is

  1005. nothing new

  1006. under the

  1007. sun.

  1008. Still

  1009. people live

  1010. without any

  1011. thought of

  1012. God,

  1013. just as

  1014. they did

  1015. in the

  1016. days of

  1017. the

  1018. writer to

  1019. the

  1020. Ecclesiastes.

  1021. But when

  1022. we see

  1023. things as

  1024. under God's

  1025. sovereign rule,

  1026. as under

  1027. heaven,

  1028. in light of

  1029. who God

  1030. is,

  1031. God at

  1032. work in

  1033. every

  1034. period of

  1035. time,

  1036. in every

  1037. generation,

  1038. moving things

  1039. on by

  1040. his will

  1041. and his

  1042. purpose,

  1043. we see

  1044. that he

  1045. is in

  1046. control.

  1047. In

  1048. chapter 1

  1049. it speaks

  1050. of the

  1051. cycle of

  1052. life almost

  1053. in the

  1054. sense of

  1055. going round

  1056. and round

  1057. in a

  1058. circle.

  1059. When you

  1060. look at

  1061. verse 4

  1062. through to

  1063. verse 9

  1064. of chapter 1,

  1065. you can read

  1066. it again in

  1067. your own time,

  1068. it says,

  1069. a generation

  1070. goes and

  1071. a generation

  1072. comes,

  1073. but the

  1074. earth remains

  1075. forever.

  1076. And so it

  1077. goes on to

  1078. speak about

  1079. our lives as

  1080. almost this

  1081. way the sun

  1082. rises, the

  1083. sun goes

  1084. down and

  1085. hastens to

  1086. the place

  1087. where it

  1088. rises.

  1089. There is

  1090. this constant

  1091. just going

  1092. round and

  1093. round in

  1094. life.

  1095. It almost

  1096. seems that

  1097. there is no

  1098. direction.

  1099. But here

  1100. in verse

  1101. 11, we

  1102. see that

  1103. as we

  1104. see things

  1105. under

  1106. heaven and

  1107. in God's

  1108. control, in

  1109. chapter 3,

  1110. verse 11, he

  1111. says, he

  1112. has made

  1113. everything

  1114. beautiful in

  1115. its time.

  1116. In its

  1117. time.

  1118. That God

  1119. has time

  1120. in his

  1121. hands.

  1122. That

  1123. everything

  1124. is in

  1125. his time.

  1126. His promise

  1127. is that he

  1128. will make

  1129. everything

  1130. beautiful in

  1131. its time.

  1132. even the

  1133. most difficult

  1134. experiences

  1135. of life.

  1136. But it

  1137. is in

  1138. his

  1139. appointed

  1140. time.

  1141. Things

  1142. don't just

  1143. happen.

  1144. It isn't

  1145. just a

  1146. random

  1147. sequence of

  1148. events.

  1149. We are

  1150. looking at

  1151. things here

  1152. in light of

  1153. God who

  1154. has time

  1155. and everything

  1156. in his

  1157. hands, who

  1158. gives

  1159. direction.

  1160. the Bible

  1161. often speaks

  1162. of things

  1163. being at

  1164. the right

  1165. time.

  1166. Romans 5,

    Romans 5:6

  1167. verse 6

  1168. says, for

  1169. while we

  1170. were still

  1171. weak, at

  1172. the right

  1173. time, Christ

  1174. died for

  1175. the ungodly.

  1176. We don't

  1177. rush God.

  1178. We don't

  1179. make him

  1180. move quicker

  1181. even though we

  1182. would want it

  1183. at times, but

  1184. at the right

  1185. time.

  1186. he will

  1187. make things

  1188. right.

  1189. God is

  1190. working.

  1191. God will

  1192. put things

  1193. right.

  1194. That is the

  1195. promise of

  1196. his word, even

  1197. in times and

  1198. situations that

  1199. seem to make

  1200. no sense to

  1201. us.

  1202. There are

  1203. numerous stories

  1204. told of

  1205. heroic actions

  1206. during times

  1207. of conflict.

  1208. I'm sure you

  1209. know many

  1210. of them.

  1211. One I

  1212. have heard

  1213. so often

  1214. and recall

  1215. so often

  1216. is about

  1217. a ship

  1218. called

  1219. the

  1220. Jarvis

  1221. Bay.

  1222. Back in

  1223. 1940, in

  1224. the early

  1225. years of

  1226. the Second

  1227. World War,

  1228. the Jarvis

  1229. Bay was

  1230. part of a

  1231. convoy

  1232. making its

  1233. way across

  1234. to the

  1235. United

  1236. Kingdom,

  1237. across the

  1238. Atlantic.

  1239. On the

  1240. 5th of

  1241. November

  1242. 1940, they

  1243. came under

  1244. attack from

  1245. a battleship

  1246. called the

  1247. Admiral

  1248. Shear.

  1249. convoy.

  1250. The convoy

  1251. was in

  1252. great danger.

  1253. The battleship

  1254. was too

  1255. powerful for

  1256. the convoy

  1257. and one

  1258. by one

  1259. it was

  1260. starting to

  1261. take the

  1262. ships out.

  1263. But the

  1264. Jarvis Bay,

  1265. the captain

  1266. of the

  1267. Jarvis Bay,

  1268. decided to

  1269. take action

  1270. and he

  1271. turned the

  1272. ship towards

  1273. the battleship,

  1274. the Admiral

  1275. Shear.

  1276. And although

  1277. they only

  1278. had small

  1279. guns on

  1280. board,

  1281. they engaged

  1282. in battle

  1283. with this

  1284. battleship,

  1285. knowing it

  1286. was hopeless,

  1287. but hoping

  1288. that it would

  1289. give enough

  1290. time for

  1291. the convoy

  1292. to get

  1293. further ahead

  1294. and further

  1295. away.

  1296. And so

  1297. it did.

  1298. The convoy

  1299. escaped,

  1300. but it was

  1301. at a great

  1302. cost.

  1303. The Jarvis

  1304. Bay was

  1305. sunk,

  1306. and of

  1307. the 255

  1308. on board,

  1309. 187,

  1310. were lost.

  1311. It was a

  1312. great loss

  1313. of life.

  1314. They turned

  1315. knowing it

  1316. was futile,

  1317. but in the

  1318. hope of

  1319. saving others.

  1320. The reason

  1321. I know

  1322. this story

  1323. so well

  1324. is because

  1325. I sailed

  1326. on a

  1327. ship in

  1328. my own

  1329. time at

  1330. sea called

  1331. the Jarvis

  1332. Bay.

  1333. It was

  1334. the third

  1335. one to

  1336. have been

  1337. built.

  1338. And on

  1339. board was

  1340. a memory

  1341. towards the

  1342. first Jarvis

  1343. Bay,

  1344. the story

  1345. was told

  1346. of the

  1347. original

  1348. Jarvis

  1349. Bay that

  1350. had made

  1351. that

  1352. sacrifice.

  1353. It was

  1354. a powerful

  1355. witness.

  1356. Even though

  1357. I wasn't

  1358. a Christian

  1359. at the

  1360. time,

  1361. it was

  1362. a powerful

  1363. witness.

  1364. But there's

  1365. nothing more

  1366. powerful than

  1367. the witness

  1368. of the

  1369. one who

  1370. gave his

  1371. life for

  1372. us on

  1373. the cross.

  1374. But all

  1375. of these

  1376. things,

  1377. they remind

  1378. us of

  1379. what it

  1380. says here

  1381. that the

  1382. Lord has

  1383. made

  1384. everything

  1385. beautiful

  1386. in its

  1387. time,

  1388. but it

  1389. says there

  1390. in verse

  1391. 11,

  1392. he has

  1393. put

  1394. eternity

  1395. into

  1396. man's

  1397. heart.

  1398. Eternity

  1399. is before

  1400. us all

  1401. at such

  1402. times as

  1403. these.

  1404. It's

  1405. always

  1406. before us.

  1407. But on

  1408. a day of

  1409. remembrance,

  1410. as we

  1411. think of

  1412. the lives

  1413. given for

  1414. our

  1415. freedom,

  1416. eternity

  1417. becomes

  1418. more

  1419. powerful.

  1420. We all

  1421. have

  1422. eternity

  1423. before

  1424. us.

  1425. And

  1426. Thomas

  1427. Watson,

  1428. the

  1429. Puritan,

  1430. once said,

  1431. eternity

  1432. to the

  1433. godly

  1434. is a

  1435. day that

  1436. has no

  1437. sunset,

  1438. but eternity

  1439. to the

  1440. wicked

  1441. is a

  1442. night

  1443. that has

  1444. no

  1445. sunrise.

  1446. And that

  1447. is the

  1448. difference.

  1449. Eternity

  1450. for the

  1451. godly

  1452. is a

  1453. day that

  1454. has no

  1455. sunset.

  1456. We will

  1457. be in

  1458. the light

  1459. of the

  1460. Lord for

  1461. all

  1462. eternity.

  1463. But

  1464. eternity

  1465. to the

  1466. wicked

  1467. is a

  1468. night

  1469. that

  1470. has

  1471. no

  1472. sunrise,

  1473. no

  1474. hope

  1475. of

  1476. light,

  1477. darkness

  1478. for

  1479. all

  1480. eternity.

  1481. The

  1482. Lord

  1483. has a

  1484. time

  1485. for

  1486. everything

  1487. and

  1488. everything

  1489. in its

  1490. time.

  1491. But

  1492. where are

  1493. we when

  1494. we think

  1495. of our

  1496. freedom

  1497. today,

  1498. our

  1499. freedom

  1500. to

  1501. worship,

  1502. our

  1503. freedom

  1504. that is

  1505. offered

  1506. in

  1507. Christ,

  1508. the

  1509. eternity

  1510. before

  1511. us.

  1512. Where

  1513. are

  1514. we?

  1515. The

  1516. third

  1517. thing we

  1518. see here

  1519. is a

  1520. time to

  1521. reflect.

  1522. It's a

  1523. time to

  1524. pause

  1525. and

  1526. remember

  1527. and it's

  1528. a time

  1529. to reflect

  1530. for

  1531. ourselves.

  1532. As we

  1533. have stopped

  1534. in silence

  1535. for a

  1536. moment

  1537. today as

  1538. we come

  1539. under

  1540. the

  1541. word

  1542. for

  1543. a

  1544. time,

  1545. it

  1546. brings

  1547. to

  1548. mind

  1549. things

  1550. that

  1551. we

  1552. can

  1553. so

  1554. easily

  1555. forget.

  1556. We

  1557. don't

  1558. want to

  1559. go away

  1560. from

  1561. here

  1562. and

  1563. just

  1564. forget

  1565. all

  1566. that's

  1567. been

  1568. done

  1569. for

  1570. us.

  1571. We

  1572. don't

  1573. want to

  1574. go away

  1575. from

  1576. here

  1577. today

  1578. and

  1579. forget

  1580. all

  1581. that

  1582. the

  1583. word

  1584. of

  1585. God

  1586. is

  1587. saying

  1588. to

  1589. us.

  1590. That

  1591. there

  1592. is a

  1593. time

  1594. for

  1595. everything.

  1596. That

  1597. everything

  1598. is in

  1599. its

  1600. time.

  1601. God

  1602. has

  1603. put

  1604. eternity

  1605. into

  1606. our

  1607. hearts

  1608. so we

  1609. might

  1610. reflect

  1611. on

  1612. these

  1613. things.

  1614. We

  1615. don't

  1616. forget

  1617. our

  1618. past,

  1619. but let's

  1620. not forget

  1621. our

  1622. future

  1623. either.

  1624. We

  1625. may not

  1626. understand

  1627. his time

  1628. and his

  1629. purpose

  1630. as always.

  1631. There are

  1632. many things

  1633. we can

  1634. struggle

  1635. to

  1636. understand,

  1637. but we

  1638. remember

  1639. that we

  1640. will

  1641. step

  1642. out

  1643. of

  1644. time

  1645. and

  1646. into

  1647. eternity.

  1648. And what

  1649. we do

  1650. with our

  1651. time

  1652. now

  1653. is what

  1654. matters.

  1655. There are

  1656. times

  1657. of war

  1658. in this

  1659. world.

  1660. We are

  1661. seeing such

  1662. days

  1663. in other

  1664. parts of

  1665. the world

  1666. even

  1667. today.

  1668. But we

  1669. remember

  1670. as the

  1671. word

  1672. says

  1673. there is

  1674. a time

  1675. for

  1676. peace.

  1677. peace.

  1678. And that

  1679. is what

  1680. we pray

  1681. for today.

  1682. Peace.

  1683. Peace from

  1684. war.

  1685. Peace from

  1686. conflict.

  1687. But above

  1688. all,

  1689. peace in

  1690. Christ.

  1691. That we

  1692. might know

  1693. his peace

  1694. that passes

  1695. understanding.

  1696. One of the

  1697. most powerful

  1698. images of

  1699. wartime

  1700. is at a

  1701. time of

  1702. ceasefire.

  1703. A time

  1704. when peace

  1705. comes.

  1706. When you

  1707. see armies

  1708. marching

  1709. back from

  1710. battle.

  1711. Often

  1712. dirty,

  1713. tired,

  1714. carrying

  1715. wounded.

  1716. And their

  1717. own wounds

  1718. are obvious.

  1719. And yet

  1720. because of

  1721. peace

  1722. there may

  1723. be joy.

  1724. And for

  1725. the

  1726. Christian,

  1727. that is

  1728. the promise

  1729. too.

  1730. That though

  1731. there are

  1732. many things

  1733. that we

  1734. suffer in

  1735. this world,

  1736. although there

  1737. is a

  1738. reality of

  1739. a time

  1740. to be

  1741. born and

  1742. a time

  1743. to die,

  1744. a time

  1745. of war

  1746. and a

  1747. time of

  1748. peace,

  1749. there is

  1750. a reality

  1751. of a

  1752. greater

  1753. day as

  1754. well.

  1755. A day

  1756. spoken of

  1757. in Isaiah

    Isaiah 35:8

  1758. 35,

  1759. verse 8

  1760. through

  1761. verse 10

  1762. where it

  1763. says,

  1764. a highway

  1765. shall be

  1766. there and

  1767. it shall

  1768. be called

  1769. the way

  1770. of holiness.

  1771. The

  1772. unclean

  1773. shall not

  1774. pass over

  1775. it,

  1776. it shall

  1777. belong to

  1778. those who

  1779. walk on

  1780. the way.

  1781. Even if

  1782. they are

  1783. fools,

  1784. they shall

  1785. not go

  1786. astray.

  1787. No lion

  1788. shall be

  1789. there,

  1790. nor shall

  1791. any ravenous

  1792. beast come

  1793. upon it.

  1794. They shall

  1795. not be

  1796. found there,

  1797. but the

  1798. redeemed

  1799. shall walk

  1800. there.

  1801. And the

  1802. ransomed

  1803. of the

  1804. Lord shall

  1805. return and

  1806. come to

  1807. Sion with

  1808. singing.

  1809. Everlasting

  1810. joy shall

  1811. be upon

  1812. their heads.

  1813. They shall

  1814. obtain gladness

  1815. and joy,

  1816. and sorrow

  1817. and sighing

  1818. shall flee

  1819. away.

  1820. There we

  1821. are reminded

  1822. of a

  1823. greater day

  1824. for the

  1825. Christian,

  1826. a day

  1827. that Isaiah

  1828. prophesied,

  1829. a day that

  1830. the book of

  1831. Revelation

  1832. speaks of

  1833. being fulfilled,

  1834. a day when

  1835. he will wipe

  1836. away every

  1837. tear.

  1838. Today,

  1839. we remember

  1840. those who

  1841. served and

  1842. who serve.

  1843. We remember

  1844. those who

  1845. gave the

  1846. ultimate

  1847. sacrifice,

  1848. who lay

  1849. down their

  1850. lives for

  1851. our peace

  1852. and our

  1853. freedom.

  1854. But above

  1855. all today,

  1856. let us

  1857. remember the

  1858. one who

  1859. gives us

  1860. peace.

  1861. The news

  1862. headlines so

  1863. often shock

  1864. us.

  1865. A war,

  1866. a time of

  1867. war when

  1868. a war has

  1869. broken out.

  1870. We see

  1871. these headlines

  1872. that shock

  1873. us.

  1874. We see the

  1875. devastation it

  1876. brings.

  1877. And we

  1878. pray for

  1879. peace.

  1880. Today,

  1881. that is our

  1882. prayer for

  1883. the world

  1884. in which we

  1885. live,

  1886. that we

  1887. may know

  1888. days of

  1889. peace,

  1890. days of

  1891. freedom.

  1892. But above

  1893. all,

  1894. let us

  1895. remember the

  1896. Lord.

  1897. There is a

  1898. time for

  1899. everything.

  1900. But everything

  1901. is in its

  1902. time.

  1903. And God

  1904. has put

  1905. eternity

  1906. into the

  1907. heart of

  1908. man.

  1909. So let's

  1910. not see

  1911. things as

  1912. under the

  1913. sun,

  1914. where we

  1915. struggle to

  1916. understand.

  1917. Let's see

  1918. things under

  1919. heaven,

  1920. that God

  1921. rules,

  1922. that he

  1923. is with

  1924. us,

  1925. and that

  1926. he will

  1927. give joy

  1928. and gladness

  1929. to his

  1930. people when

  1931. he takes

  1932. them to

  1933. himself.

  1934. Let us

  1935. pray.

  1936. Our

  1937. Father in

  1938. heaven,

  1939. we thank

  1940. you for

  1941. your word,

  1942. a word that

  1943. speaks in

  1944. every situation

  1945. and circumstance

  1946. of life for

  1947. us.

  1948. We thank

  1949. you that it

  1950. speaks not

  1951. just for

  1952. this day,

  1953. but for

  1954. eternity too,

  1955. for you have

  1956. put eternity

  1957. in all our

  1958. hearts.

  1959. And we

  1960. pray,

  1961. Lord,

  1962. that on

  1963. this day

  1964. of reflection,

  1965. on this

  1966. day of

  1967. remembrance,

  1968. that we

  1969. will give

  1970. thanks,

  1971. O Lord,

  1972. for the

  1973. freedom that

  1974. we enjoy,

  1975. that we

  1976. will realize

  1977. too that

  1978. the greatest

  1979. price of

  1980. all has

  1981. been paid,

  1982. that Christ

  1983. came to

  1984. lay down

  1985. his life

  1986. for his

  1987. people.

  1988. So help

  1989. us,

  1990. Lord,

  1991. to consider

  1992. these things,

  1993. to reflect

  1994. upon them,

  1995. to turn to

  1996. you in

  1997. prayer and

  1998. cry out,

  1999. O Lord,

  2000. have mercy,

  2001. have mercy

  2002. on your

  2003. world,

  2004. have mercy

  2005. upon your

  2006. people.

  2007. Come to

  2008. us,

  2009. Lord,

  2010. we pray,

  2011. and give

  2012. us your

  2013. peace,

  2014. as we

  2015. ask it

  2016. in Jesus'

  2017. name.

  2018. Amen.

  2019. We're

  2020. going to

  2021. conclude by

  2022. singing to

  2023. God's praise

  2024. in Psalm

  2025. 72.

  2026. Psalm 72

  2027. in the

  2028. Scottish

  2029. Psalter,

  2030. page

  2031. 314.

  2032. We sing

  2033. from verse

  2034. 17 to

  2035. the end

  2036. of the

  2037. psalm,

  2038. words we

  2039. perhaps know

  2040. well and

  2041. often sing

  2042. at times when

  2043. we remember

  2044. the Lord's

  2045. death,

  2046. but too we

  2047. can sing

  2048. them today

  2049. knowing that

  2050. his name

  2051. will forever

  2052. endure.

  2053. His name

  2054. forever shall

  2055. endure,

  2056. last like the

  2057. sun it

  2058. shall,

  2059. men shall

  2060. be blessed

  2061. in him

  2062. and blessed

  2063. all nations

  2064. shall him

  2065. call.

  2066. We sing

  2067. from verse

  2068. 17 to

  2069. the end

  2070. of the

  2071. psalm.

  2072. His name

  2073. forever

  2074. shall

  2075. endure,

  2076. last like

  2077. the sun

  2078. it

  2079. shall,

  2080. men

  2081. shall

  2082. be

  2083. blessed

  2084. in him

  2085. and blessed

  2086. all nations

  2087. shall

  2088. him

  2089. call.

  2090. Now

  2091. blessed

  2092. be

  2093. the

  2094. Lord

  2095. our God,

  2096. the

  2097. God

  2098. God

  2099. of Israel

  2100. of Israel

  2101. for he

  2102. alone

  2103. doth

  2104. wondrous

  2105. works

  2106. in glory

  2107. that

  2108. excel

  2109. and blessed

  2110. and blessed

  2111. be his

  2112. glorious

  2113. name

  2114. to all

  2115. eternity

  2116. the whole

  2117. earth

  2118. let his

  2119. glory

  2120. glory

  2121. fill

  2122. amen

  2123. so

  2124. let

  2125. it

  2126. be

  2127. after the

  2128. benediction

2129. I'll go to the door

  2130. to my left

  2131. we'll close

  2132. the benediction

  2133. now may

  2134. grace

  2135. mercy

  2136. and peace

  2137. from God

  2138. Father

  2139. Son

  2140. and Holy

  2141. Spirit

  2142. rest upon

  2143. and abide

  2144. with us

  2145. all

  2146. now and

  2147. forevermore

  2148. amen
