  1. We're going to begin by singing to God's praise in Psalm 130 in the Scottish Psalter, page 421.

  2. We can sing the whole of this psalm, a wonderful psalm that reminds us that we are able to cry

  3. whatever our situation to the Lord, that he hears our prayers, that he is able to forgive our sins.

  4. We read at the beginning of the psalm, Lord, from the depths to thee I cried,

  5. My voice, Lord, do thou hear, and to my supplications voice give an attentive ear.

  6. And then down at the last verse, and plenty as redemption is ever found with him,

  7. and from all his iniquities he Israel shall redeem.

  8. We'll stand to sing the whole of this psalm to God's praise.

  9. Lord, from the depths to thee I cry,

  10. My voice, Lord, do thou hear,

  11. And to my supplications voice give an attentive ear.

  12. For two shall stand, if thou, O Lord,

  13. Choose my liberty,

  14. But yet with thee forgive,

  15. For give blesses,

  16. And fear thou mayest be.

  17. I pray for thee,

  18. I pray for all,

  19. My soul not wait,

  20. I hope is in his word,

  21. For land they have,

  22. The morning light to see,

  23. My soul not wait,

  24. The morning light to see,

  25. To watch the morning high to see

  26. Let Israel open the heart

  27. Or with him as he speak

  28. And when Jesus' redemption

  29. Is ever found within

  30. And from all his iniquities

  31. Even his birth shall redeem

  32. Let's bow our heads in a word of prayer. Let us pray.

  33. Amen.

  34. Amen.

  35. the one who was the word that became flesh and dwelt among us

  36. the one who came to take away the sin of the world

  37. and so we pray that as we come today that we would

  38. see Jesus that we would see in him in all his beauty

  39. as the one who came for sinners such as we are in all our filthiness in all our

  40. rags and yet he came that we might know the

  41. wonder of his grace the wonder of his salvation the abundance of the life that

  42. he offers to all his people and we pray Lord that you will breathe

  43. that life into us all today whether we are at the table or whether

  44. we are watching on or whether we are tuning in online

  45. that what the word that you speak to us Lord the word that we hear from you

  46. that would breathe life into our very souls that it would give us that joy of

  47. salvation that joy of knowing Christ as our Lord and as our God and so that we

  48. would come in this time of remembering his death that we would come oh Lord

  49. seeing the one who is worthy worthy of all glory and praise and that we would

  50. indeed praise his name so Lord we thank you that you put that desire in our hearts

  51. that you are the one who prepares us for this day in every way in all our different needs that

  52. you are the one who upholds us the one who strengthens us the one who rebukes us but also

  53. the one who has compassion upon us and Lord we thank you for all your goodness and mercy

  54. all that it follows us all the days of our life and the hope that you give to all of your people

  55. of that dwelling place forevermore where we will be with the Lord for all eternity

  56. and as we come today Lord as we reflect looking back as we think even since the last time we sat at

  57. the Lord's table of those who have been taken from time into eternity we think oh Lord of many who sat

  58. at the Lord's table in the past and who now are with the Lord and we thank you for your witnesses

  59. down through all the generations those who have gone before and upheld and praised your name

  60. and we thank you too Lord for a generation now those who you are bringing to yourself those who you are

  61. calling to yourself we thank you that we rejoice today in new members with us and we pray Lord that

  62. you will encourage them as they sit at the Lord's table for the first time today that they will be

  63. strengthened and that we would all be strengthened together for we are reminded that your spirit works

  64. that even when we do not see it or maybe when we even lose hope that you remind us that you are

  65. building your church and that the gates of hell will not prevail against it and we thank you Lord

  66. for a generation coming after us we thank you for all the young people belonging to us as a congregation

  67. here and we pray Lord that you will bless them that you will watch over them in here today and also as they

  68. gather next door as well and come in later on that your word will minister to them that you will bless them

  69. Lord and help them to remember their creator in the days of their youth that you will bless them as they grow up

  70. oh Lord that you will guide their paths that you will watch over them day by day Lord bringing them into that

  71. relationship that saving relationship with you and we pray even as your word speaks of a generation yet

  72. unborn we know not our future Lord we know not the days that we have but we know that you do and that as

  73. until the day that you come Lord there will be a generation born and coming into this world and

  74. we pray Lord that in generations to come if it is your will that you will pour out your spirit upon

  75. nations near and far that your goodness and mercy may be known throughout all ends of the earth

  76. that as you call your people to yourself that your name will be praised and glorified

  77. so Lord we commit ourselves into your hands at this time asking that you will draw near to us as we seek

  78. to draw near to you that you will bless us in all our different needs in our homes and our families and our

  79. community Lord look down upon us in mercy we pray that you will do good to those who need you in

  80. particular ways the grieving those who are unwell those who are confined to their homes and those who

  81. suffer Lord in different ways Lord so many things are hidden from our eyes but we thank you that your eyes

  82. are on all things and upon all people and so we pray Lord that you will look down upon your world this day

  83. that you will have mercy upon us that you will bless us Lord with your peace and with your presence

  84. so Lord we ask you to continue with us now and help us in all our duties today in the ministry of the word

  85. and sacrament as we come as your servants as your people called by you to do this in remembrance of you

  86. we pray Lord that you will help us to know your peace and your presence with us throughout this day and

  87. each and every day that you will guard us in our hearts and in our minds and help us to have that assurance

  88. of Jesus here with us the one who you have called into this world sent into this world as Emmanuel God with us

  89. so we pray your blessing on us your spirit with us to lead us and guide us we ask it all with the

  90. forgiveness of all our sin in Jesus name amen

  91. I will turn to read God's word together now we're going to read in two parts of the scriptures first

  92. of all in the Old Testament in the book of Exodus in chapter 12 we'll read some verses there and then

  93. we'll turn into the New Testament to the gospel of Mark chapter 14 so our first reading is in

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  94. Exodus chapter 12 we read from verse 1 to 14 and then 21 to 28

    Exodus 12 chapter mention

  95. the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt this month shall be for you the beginning of

  96. months it shall be the first month of the year for you tell all the congregation of Israel that on the

  97. tenth day of this month every man shall take a lamb according to their father's houses a lamb for a

  98. household and if the household is too small for a lamb then he and his nearest neighbor shall take

  99. according to the number of persons according to what each can eat you shall make your count for the lamb

  100. your lamb shall be without blemish a male a year old you may take it from the sheep or from the goats

  101. and you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of this month when the whole assembly of the

  102. congregation of Israel shall kill their lambs at twilight then they shall take some of the blood

  103. and put it on the two doorposts and the lintel of the houses in which they eat it they shall eat the

  104. flesh that night roasted on the fire with unleavened bread and bitter herbs they shall eat it do not

  105. eat any of it raw or boiled in water but roasted its head with its legs and its inner parts and you

  106. shall let none of it remain until the morning anything that remains until the morning you shall burn

  107. in this manner you shall eat it with your belt fastened your sandals on your feet and your staff

  108. in your hand and you shall eat it in haste it is the lord's passover for i will pass through the land

  109. of egypt that night and i will strike all the firstborn in the land of egypt both man and beast and on all

  110. the gods of egypt i will execute judgment i am the lord the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses

  111. where you are and when i see the blood i will pass over you and no plague will befall you to destroy you

  112. when i strike the land of egypt this day shall be for you a memorial day and you shall keep it as a feast

  113. to the lord throughout your generations as a statute forever you shall keep it as a feast

  114. and then if we jump down to verse 21 then moses called all the elders of israel and said to them

  115. go and select lambs for yourselves according to your clans and kill the passover lamb take a bunch of

  116. hyssop and dip it in the blood that is in the basin and touch the lintel and the two doorposts with

  117. the blood that is in the basin none of you shall go out of the door of this of his house until the

  118. morning for the lord will pass through to strike the egyptians and when he sees the blood on the

  119. lintel and on the two doorposts the lord will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to

  120. enter your houses to strike you you shall observe this right as a statute for you and for your sons forever

  121. and when you come to the land that the lord will give you as he has promised you shall keep this service

  122. and when your children say to you what do you mean by this service you shall say it is the sacrifice of

  123. the lord's passover for he passed over the houses of the people of israel and egypt when he struck the

  124. egyptians but spared our houses and the people bowed their heads and worshiped and the people of israel

  125. went and did so as the lord had commanded moses and aaron so they did and then we'll turn into the

  126. new testament and reading the gospel of mark in chapter 14 reading at verse 12

  127. here we see in mark chapter 14 at verse 12 the passover being prepared for the lord and the disciples to partake in

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  128. mark chapter 14 at verse 12 on the first day of unleavened bread when they sacrificed the passover lamb

    Mark 14 chapter mention

  129. his disciples said to him where shall we go and prepare for you to eat the passover and he sent two

  130. of his disciples and said to them go into the city and a man carrying a jar of water will meet you follow

  131. him and wherever he enters say to the master of the house the teacher says where is my guest room

  132. where i may eat the passover with my disciples and he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready

  133. there prepare for us and the disciples set out and went to the city and found it just as he had told

  134. them and they prepared the passover and when it was evening he came with the twelve and as they were

  135. reclining at table and eating jesus said truly i say to you one of you will betray me one who is eating

  136. with me they began to be sorrowful and to say to him one after another is it i he said to them it is

  137. one of the twelve one who is dipping bread into the dish with me for the son of man goes as it is written

  138. of him but woe to the man by whom the son of man is betrayed it would have been better for that man

  139. if he had not been born and as they were eating he took bread and after blessing it broke it and gave it

  140. to them and said take this is my body and he took a cup and when he had given thanks he gave it to them

  141. and they all drank of it and he said to them this is my blood of the covenant which is poured out for

  142. many truly i say to you i will not drink again of the fruit of the vine until the day when i drink it

  143. anew in the kingdom of god and so on and may god bless these readings to us we'll come back to them

  144. again after we've sung to god's praise again this time our singing is in gallic we're singing

  162. I'm sure you've seen as we've read both these passages that they are very closely linked with the theme of the Passover and the fulfillment of the Passover in our Lord Jesus Christ.

  163. It's difficult when we follow the different paths in this world that lead us away from life in the Lord and lead us to destruction.

  164. But we thank God that He calls His people back to Himself.

  165. And we thought last night as well, just mentioning at the beginning, that theme of life that we want to look at today as well.

  166. Last night we were looking at the choice of life.

  167. This morning we're looking at the source of life.

  168. And in the New Testament in John's Gospel chapter 10, where Jesus there speaks of Himself as the good shepherd, He reminds us there that the thief has come to kill and to destroy.

  169. But He says,

  170. He comes to seek and to destroy.

  171. But it's in darkness.

  172. And He says,

  173. God saw.

  174. He has taken action for us.

  175. And there have been.

  176. He has taken action for us.

  177. And there have been.

  178. The Pharaoh's heart.

  179. He said,

  180. He said,

  181. He said,

  182. And so,

  183. And so,

  184. His heart,

  185. And so,

  186. And so,

  187. And so,

  188. And so,

  189. And so,

  190. And so,

  191. And so,

  192. And so,

  193. And so,

  194. And so,

  195. And so,

  196. And so,

  197. And so,

  198. And so,

  199. And so,

  200. And so,

  201. And so,

  202. And so,

  203. And so,

  204. And so,

  205. And so,

  206. And so,

  207. And so,

  208. And so,

  209. And so,

  210. And so,

  211. And so,

  212. And so,

  213. And so,

  214. And so,

  215. And so,

  216. And so,

  217. And so,

  218. You may not,

  219. And so,

  220. And so,

  221. And so,

  222. And so,

  223. And so,

  224. And so,

  225. And so,

  226. And so,

  227. And so,

  228. And so,

  229. And so,

  230. Noah, who by faith had to build the ark. And when you read through Hebrews 11, you see there,

  231. by faith, the people did so much. And that is the way we are to come ourselves today,

  232. by faith, by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. In the Passover, we see the people had to listen

  233. to the command of God in preparing themselves and seeing the provision that was made for them

  234. in order to enjoy the protection that he offered to them. And that is what we think of today as we

  235. come to the Lord's Supper as well. In the Lord's Supper in the New Testament, we see the provision

  236. God has made for us in giving his Son, the Lamb of God, who came to take away the sin of the world.

  237. We see his shed blood and his body given that we might have life through him. And so we are to

  238. come in remembrance of him. So we're looking at the Passover in light of the New Testament.

  239. And I want us to take these three things from our passages today as we prepare our hearts to take

  240. the Lord's Supper. The first thing we want to look at is the provision that is made. The second thing is

  241. the preparation that is necessary. And then the third thing is the protection that it gives.

  242. So we begin by thinking, first of all, of the provision. As you read in chapter 12 of Exodus,

  243. you get the sense of a new beginning for God's people here. In verse 1,

  244. there the Lord said to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, this month shall be for you the beginning

  245. of months. It shall be the first month of the year for you. There is something new taking place here.

  246. God is going to provide for them in a miraculous way. God is making the provision for them. And what he

  247. provides us is a way to safety, a way to salvation, a way to freedom from the bondage and slavery that

  248. they've endured. And he provides for them in every way. He gives them a sign. He gives them instruction.

  249. He gives them the provision. And he gives them an assurance that this is something that they are to do

  250. for generations to come. Moses here is teaching of the provision that God has made and how this is

  251. going to be reflected in their way of life. It's not just something for a moment, but something that

  252. goes on down through all the generations. He explains there in the opening verses and also in verse 24 and 25

  253. as well how this is going to be something that they are to observe. It says in verse 24,

  254. you shall observe this right as a statue for you and for your sons forever. And when you come to the

  255. land that the Lord will give you, as he has promised, you shall keep this service. It was to be an ongoing

  256. remembrance. And that is what we do ourselves today as well. We don't just come to the

  257. Lord's table once and that's it for us. If we only did that, we would soon forget what the Lord has

  258. done for us, the provision that he has made for us. Because we are by nature a forgetful people.

  259. But just like they had it as part of their calendar, a schedule in their every year, a routine of

  260. remembrance to remember through the Passover what God did for them in such a miraculous way.

  261. That's what we find when Jesus and his disciples in Mark 14 were preparing for, preparing for the

  262. Passover to remember what the Lord had done all those years ago. It was something that was not

  263. forgotten. And we are not to forget ourselves either. Because as we see the disciples with Jesus

  264. preparing the Passover, what happens is he begins to show the fulfillment of it. The bread and the wine,

  265. the sacrament that was made or going to be made at that point, which has been made for us,

  266. was that the Lord himself was going to be the lamb who would be slain. That his body would be broken,

  267. that his blood would be shed, that he would provide for his people, a way to salvation, a way that we are to

  268. remember and to go on remembering. This do in remembrance of me until I come. We would not forget the provision

  269. that has been made for us. And the Lord has provided for us in all things just in the same way as he provided

  270. through Moses' instruction. He has provided for us through his word. Just as Moses instructed the people

  271. to bring a lamb for it to be sacrificed, the Lord has provided for us, the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the

  272. world. Just as the Lord was providing a day this day when the Passover would be observed and where the

  273. angel would come through the camp, the destroyer would come through, and those who weren't under

  274. the protection of the blood would be destroyed, so too there is a day for us to remember what the Lord

  275. has done for us. He has provided the Lord's day for us to remember that he is God, that he is the

  276. creator of the heavens and the earth, that this is a day we remember his death, but each Lord's day we

  277. remember he is risen. The provision is made for the way to life and life eternal. And he has provided

  278. for us the sacrament. It is before us today to remember what was done for us at Calvary, to remember

  279. what was done on the cross as Jesus gave his life as a ransom for many. Have you ever tried to imagine

  280. what it would be like if we were still under the Old Testament covenant, if we were still a people

  281. who had to observe the Passover as it was, bringing a lamb? I wonder if it would be easier for us.

  282. Would it be easier for us to bring a lamb for Passover than it is to come and sit at the Lord's

  283. table? Because in bringing a lamb, we are doing something ourselves. There is the lamb, now do

  284. something with it. We feel a part of it, and yet it is so difficult for us to come and sit at the Lord's

  285. table. And yet every provision has been made. It has all been done for us. We are invited to a meal

  286. where we don't have to bring anything with us. It is there. It is ready, because Jesus has said,

  287. it is finished. We are to come in faith. Everything has been done for us. Every provision has been made.

  288. Even when we think to ourselves, unworthy as we are, or think to ourselves of the difficulties and the

  289. challenges and the lack of faith that we so often don't have, the lack of faith we so often have,

  290. we are to come because the provision has been made. But we are reminded of that verse.

  291. There is one who seeks to come and seek and destroy. The thief is there to steal.

  292. But we are to remember that Jesus has come, that we might have life and have it abundantly.

  293. Imagine being in a city that is under siege. You are in this city. The walls are there for your

  294. protection. But all around this city is the enemy surrounding the city. We have been looking at

  295. Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem and the opposition that was there. Think of Jerusalem as a

  296. city with the walls built all around, and yet there is an enemy surrounding. And the enemy is

  297. threatening, and the supplies are running low, and everyone is afraid of what is going to happen.

  298. But then in the dark of the night, a spy comes into the city, manages to come through the enemy lines

  299. and tell the people in the city that the main enemy that's further away has been defeated,

  300. that the leaders of the armies that are surrounding the city have been defeated, that they have

  301. surrendered. And that it's in a matter of time that those who are surrounding the city are going to hear

  302. that this has happened, and that they will surrender themselves. The people are told they do not need to be

  303. afraid. Well, that's how it is for us. We seem to be surrounded by enemies all the time. The thief is always

  304. around seeking to steal and to destroy. When we think of all that goes on in our life and in our experience,

  305. disease, injustice, oppression, death itself, the greatest enemy. But the enemy has been defeated.

  306. He was defeated on the cross at Calvary, where death itself was taken care of by our Lord Jesus Christ.

  307. Things are not what they seem to be in our eyes. When we feel the enemy is victorious, today we remember

  308. he is defeated. And it's only a matter of time until the reality of that becomes clear when the battle

  309. is finished. The thief comes to kill and to destroy. But the provision we remember today

  310. is that he has come, that we might have life and have it abundantly. The provision is made. The second

  311. thing we see here is the preparation that was required. The Lord had provided everything that was

  312. needed. He'd given instruction, but he says to the people that they are to make a preparation. In verse 3

  313. through to verse 11, there's a lot of detail there as to what the people were to do. Every detail has gone

  314. through in meticulous nature. Just how the Passover is to be prepared. And on first reading you might think,

  315. well, it seems a little OTT to go into all of these details. But what we have to remember is the

  316. significance of this. The Lord was going to come into their midst and miss out one of these details,

  317. and he would not pass over. Try and do it in your own way. He would not pass over. You had to follow

  318. his instruction. The people weren't to decide the best way to prepare. They were to follow the instructions

  319. that were given. Because what if the instructions hadn't been clear? What if the instructions about

  320. the lamb had not been followed? The lamb was to be a year old. The best of the best. A lamb without

  321. blemish, as it says in verse 5. You may take it from the sheep or the goats. The instructions were there,

  322. but what if that was not clear? The lamb without blemish, a year old, was the choice lamb. Could

  323. you not think, well, we could just give one that's older, that has blemishes? Not give the best. But

  324. the Lord is saying, no, only the best is good enough. There were details for sharing with others,

  325. those who didn't have as much. There was details of what to do with the blood, put it on the door,

  326. post, and the lintels. Every detail was there. Now, if we were to choose ourselves the way that we

  327. would do it, that is probably not what we would do. To put blood on the doorpost, we would just think

  328. that just sounds awful. And in our eyes today, in our heart today, we might think, was there not

  329. another way that the Lord could have prepared for us to be saved? Did the Lord have to die?

  330. Did his body have to be broken? Did he have to shed his blood? Does that not sound so cruel?

  331. But the Word of God is clear to us that without the shedding of blood, there is no forgiveness for sin.

  332. And so Jesus has given his blood and his body for us.

  333. Do we seek to do things our own way, though? Do we seek to find the way to life and life abundant,

  334. just the way we would want ourselves to live the way we would choose, to be a people who would say,

  335. at the end, I did it my way? But that's no way. It's the Lord's way or no way at all.

  336. This is the way to salvation, to prepare our hearts and to see the preparation and provision

  337. that has been made for us, to see that we are to follow the Lord's instructions.

  338. The people in Moses' day, they were to prepare all these things and to wait on the Lord,

  339. as it says in verse 27 and 28, in Exodus 12 there,

  340. you shall say,

  341. for the Passover.

  342. And so have we prepared ourselves for the sacrament.

  343. As we prepare to take it, we have sought to prepare ourselves, I hope, in coming prayerfully,

  344. looking to God, but recognizing, too, that the Lord has prepared us,

  345. that the Lord has been working in us each day of our lives, every prayer offered up,

  346. every time we've heard the Word of God, every prayer meeting we've been to,

  347. every time of speaking with the Lord's people,

  348. every time of challenge and every time of joy,

  349. the Lord preparing us, bringing us to see our need and our dependence on Him.

  350. The Lord prepares us.

  351. The Lord prepares us.

  352. He has prepared you to sit at the Lord's table.

  353. He's preparing you who are looking on.

  354. God willing, I hope, to come one day and sit at the Lord's table.

  355. The Lord is at work.

  356. And we are to prepare ourselves.

  357. Not looking and seeing ourselves as worthy,

  358. but seeing our unworthiness,

  359. but seeing Jesus,

  360. the Lamb of God,

  361. who came to take away the sin of the world.

  362. The book of Revelation chapter 5,

    Revelation 5 chapter mention

  363. there is this loud voice that says,

  364. Worthy is the Lamb who was slain

  365. to receive power and wealth and wisdom

  366. and might and honor and glory and blessing.

  367. Is He worthy to you?

  368. Preparation for the Israelites led them

  369. to see the Lamb that was prepared

  370. for the sprinkling of the blood

  371. on the doorposts and the lintels.

  372. But our preparation should lead us to see the cross.

  373. The cross on Calvary

  374. and to see Jesus

  375. who gave His life for us.

  376. The preparation has been made.

  377. Again, there's another version.

  378. 1 Corinthians 5, verse 7.

    1 Corinthians 5:7

  379. Christ, our Passover Lamb,

  380. has been sacrificed.

  381. Isn't that a wonderful thought for us today?

  382. Christ, our Passover Lamb,

  383. has been sacrificed.

  384. It is finished.

  385. The preparation has been made.

  386. The table is prepared for His people.

  387. We don't bring a lamb today.

  388. Like the hymn writer says,

  389. Nothing in my hands I bring.

  390. Simply to Thy cross I cling.

  391. The third thing and the final thing I want us to see here

  392. is the outcome of what this means.

  393. The protection that the people received.

  394. The Passover was ultimately about the salvation of God's people.

  395. That the children of Israel would not face the destruction that was to come on the Egyptians.

  396. Verses 12 and 13 here give to us that explanation.

  397. For I will pass through the land of Egypt that night,

  398. and I will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt,

  399. both man and beast.

  400. And on all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments.

  401. I am the Lord.

  402. The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are.

  403. And when I see the blood,

  404. I will pass over you,

  405. and no plague will befall you to destroy you

  406. when I strike the land of Egypt.

  407. The protection of the people is what God was giving here.

  408. Through the lamb that was sacrificed and the blood that was sprinkled,

  409. the Lord would pass over,

  410. and they would not face the judgment that was to come.

  411. They will live.

  412. And that is the life that God assures us

  413. that He gives through His Son.

  414. I am come that they might have life

  415. and have it abundantly.

  416. That we might have that assurance for ourselves

  417. when we come through faith.

  418. That we would know the salvation of the Lord.

  419. That we would know the joy of the salvation of our Lord.

  420. That we would know the assurance that He is with us.

  421. That He will never leave us or forsake us.

  422. How did Moses and the people come to the Passover?

  423. They came by faith.

  424. Again, you read it in Hebrews 11, verse 28.

    Hebrews 11:28

  425. By faith He, that's Moses,

  426. kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood

  427. so that the destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.

  428. By faith.

  429. What a night it would have been,

  430. the night of the Passover.

  431. You wonder what it would have been like inside those houses.

  432. The thought of God passing over.

  433. The assurance that they were safe through the blood.

  434. The fear that would have been present as well.

  435. Well, what a day it was when Christ went to the cross.

  436. When there was darkness in the middle of the day.

  437. When He cried out with a loud voice,

  438. It is finished.

  439. They were afraid even then.

  440. Because they didn't understand.

  441. But soon they would recognize

  442. that He died for our sin.

  443. But that He rose that we might live.

  444. Christ died for you,

  445. sinner such as you are.

  446. Christ died for me,

  447. sinner such as I am.

  448. That we might know His protection.

  449. That we might know His salvation.

  450. That is what is before us today.

  451. That is what we seek to come to remember.

  452. That He has gone where we deserve to be.

  453. He has died that we might live.

  454. There's a hymn called,

  455. Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us.

  456. And the words go like this.

  457. Savior like a shepherd lead us.

  458. Much we need thy tender care.

  459. In thy pleasant pastures feed us.

  460. For our use thy folds prepare.

  461. We are thine.

  462. Do thou befriend us.

  463. Be the guardian of our way.

  464. Keep thy flock from sin defend us.

  465. Seek us when we go astray.

  466. Thou hast promised to receive us.

  467. Poor and sinful though we be.

  468. Thou hast mercy to relieve us.

  469. Grace to cleanse.

  470. And power to free.

  471. Let us seek thy favor.

  472. Early let us seek thy favor.

  473. Early let us do thy will.

  474. Blessed Lord and only Savior.

  475. With thy love our bosoms fill.

  476. As we come to the Lord's table.

  477. That is what we seek.

  478. The shepherd to lead us.

  479. That we would know His tender care.

  480. That He would feed us.

  481. That He would be our friend.

  482. Our guardian on the way.

  483. That He would defend us from sin.

  484. That He would keep us every step of the way.

  485. Our protection.

  486. The source of life.

  487. Is our Lord Jesus Christ.

  488. The lamb was sacrificed.

  489. For their protection.

  490. In the day of the Passover.

  491. In Moses' time.

  492. But Christ.

  493. Our Passover lamb.

  494. Has been sacrificed.

  495. To take away.

  496. The sin.

  497. Of the world.

  498. And so we.

  499. Are to come.

  500. The price.

  501. Has been made.

  502. The provision.

  503. The provision.

  504. Is there for us.

  505. We want to come.

  506. And do this.

  507. In remembrance of Him.

  508. And if we love.

  509. The Lord with all our heart.

  510. If He is our life.

  511. And length of days.

  512. Then we are to come to the table.

  513. And feast.

  514. And the provision made.

  515. That we might know His blessing.

  516. His protection.

  517. The assurance.

  518. The assurance.

  519. Of salvation.

  520. In Him.

  521. So may the Lord grant us.

  522. His grace.

  523. And His presence.

  524. As we seek.

  525. To do so.

  526. Let's just bow our heads.

  527. In a word of prayer.

  528. Lord our gracious God.

  529. As we seek to come.

  530. In your name.

  531. We thank you Lord.

  532. For every provision.

  533. Made for us.

  534. We thank you for the preparation.

  535. That has been done for us.

  536. We thank you for the hope.

  537. For the protection.

  538. Afforded to us.

  539. Through all that you have done for us.

  540. Through Christ Jesus.

  541. Our Passover Lamb.

  542. And we pray that you will still us.

  543. And help us.

  544. Even at this time Lord.

  545. To know your presence.

  546. To know your peace.

  547. To know that worthy is the Lamb who was slain.

  548. And that all glory and praise.

  549. Be to Him.

  550. We ask it all with the forgiveness of our sin.

  551. In Jesus name.

  552. Amen.

  553. Amen.

  554. Well as we prepare.

  555. The Lord's table.

  556. We're going to sing.

  557. To God's praise.

  558. In Psalm 118.

  559. Psalm 118.

  560. We're going to sing from verse 15.

  561. In the Scottish Psalter.

  562. Page 398.

  563. Psalm 118.

  564. Psalm 118.

  565. We're going to sing.

  566. We're going to sing.

  567. We're going to sing down to verse 23.

  568. And dwellings of the righteous.

  569. Is heard the melody.

  570. Of joy and health.

  571. The Lord's right hand.

  572. Doth ever valiantly.

  573. The right hand of the mighty Lord.

  574. Exalted is on high.

  575. The right hand of the mighty Lord.

  576. Doth ever valiantly.

  577. We'll sing from verse 15.

  578. To God's praise.

  579. Amen.

  580. In dwellings of the righteous.

  581. His birth of memory

  582. Of joy and death

  583. The Lord's right hand

  584. Thou never might be

  585. The right hand of the mighty Lord

  586. Exalted is on high

  587. The right hand of the mighty Lord

  588. Thou never might be

  589. I shall not die

  590. But live and shall

  591. The words of God discover

  592. The Lord have ye

  593. Just high sense for

  594. But not to death

  595. In your heart

  596. For set ye open

  597. Unto me

  598. The case of righteousness

  599. Then will I enter

  600. Into them

  601. And I the Lord will bless

  602. This is the gate

  603. Of God by it

  604. The just shall enter in

  605. He will thy grace

  606. For love me hurts

  607. And how's my safety be

  608. The stone is a dead cornerstone

  609. Which children sit despised

  610. This is the beauty

  611. Of the Lord

  612. And wondrous day arise

  613. Well it's good to have

  614. The young ones in with us now

  615. As well as we come

  616. To this part of the service

  617. Where we serve the sacrament

  618. Of the Lord's supper

  619. We have the bread

  620. And the wine before us

  621. Now I'm sure there's many people here

  622. Perhaps sitting downstairs

  623. Or upstairs

  624. And maybe you've got a scar

  625. On your body somewhere

  626. And when you have a scar

  627. It speaks to us of something

  628. That has happened

  629. Perhaps maybe

  630. In the recent past

  631. Or maybe even going back

  632. Many years

  633. If you have a scar

  634. You often maybe look at it

  635. And remember that exact moment

  636. When something happened

  637. It might have been an accident

  638. I've got a couple of scars

  639. From falling off a bike

  640. When I was young

  641. Different scars

  642. In different places

  643. Other people might have a scar

  644. Because of an operation

  645. They've had

  646. So as you look at that scar

  647. You're reminded

  648. Of something that

  649. Maybe at the time

  650. Was very painful

  651. Maybe a scar

  652. That's left its mark on you

  653. To this very day

  654. But with a scar

  655. You often see that

  656. Over time

  657. It heals

  658. New skin

  659. Will grow over it

  660. The mark is still there

  661. But it's healed over

  662. Well I'm sure

  663. For many of us

  664. That is true

  665. When we think of that

  666. We think back

  667. To something

  668. That has happened

  669. In the past

  670. Well today

  671. As we come

  672. To the Lord's table

  673. As we come to partake

  674. In the Lord's supper

  675. We are reminded

  676. Of one

  677. Who was scarred

  678. For us

  679. In Isaiah

  680. In the Old Testament

  681. He speaks of

  682. One who was wounded

  683. For us

  684. One who was bruised

  685. For us

  686. One who

  687. By his stripes

  688. It says

  689. We are healed

  690. So every scar

  691. That we have

  692. And especially

  693. As we think

  694. Of the scars

  695. Of sin

  696. Not just the cuts

  697. We have

  698. From accidents

  699. And falls

  700. But everything

  701. That affects

  702. Our lives

  703. Through sin

  704. And the mark

  705. That sin

  706. Leaves on us

  707. We are reminded

  708. That through

  709. His scars

  710. Through His stripes

  711. We are healed

  712. We are protected

  713. And what we have

  714. Before us here

  715. In the bread

  716. And in the wine

  717. Is a reminder

  718. To us

  719. Of the body

  720. Of Jesus

  721. That was broken

  722. For us

  723. And the blood

  724. Of Jesus

  725. That was poured

  726. Out for us

  727. That He might

  728. Heal us

  729. From our sins

  730. That we would

  731. See the provision

  732. That has been

  733. Made for us

  734. And that we would

  735. Come and remember

  736. Him

  737. In the protection

  738. That He gives us

  739. From our sin

  740. The scars

  741. Of sin

  742. May be many

  743. On us

  744. But we remember

  745. That through

  746. His scars

  747. Through His

  748. Stripes

  749. As Isaiah

  750. Says

  751. That we

  752. Are healed

  753. And that that is

  754. What we are

  755. To come

  756. And remember

  757. As we do

  758. This

  759. We read in

  760. 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 11 chapter mention

  761. Chapter 11

  762. At verse 23

  763. Our instruction

  764. For the Lord's

  765. Supper

  766. For I received

  767. From the Lord

  768. What I also

  769. Delivered

  770. To you

  771. That the Lord

  772. Jesus

  773. On the night

  774. When He was

  775. Betrayed

  776. Took bread

  777. And when He

  778. Had given

  779. Thanks

  780. He broke

  781. It and said

  782. This is

  783. My body

  784. Which is

  785. For you

  786. Do this

  787. In remembrance

  788. Of me

  789. In the same

  790. Way also

  791. He took

  792. The cup

  793. After supper

  794. Saying

  795. This cup

  796. Is the new

  797. Covenant

  798. In my blood

  799. Do this

  800. As often

  801. As you

  802. Drink it

  803. In remembrance

  804. Of me

  805. For as often

  806. As you

  807. Eat this

  808. Bread

  809. And drink

  810. This cup

  811. You proclaim

  812. The Lord's

  813. Death

  814. Until

  815. He comes

  816. In the same

  817. Manner

  818. The Lord

  819. Offered

  820. Thanks

  821. So

  822. We'll bow

  823. Our heads

  824. In a word

  825. Of thanks

  826. Lord our

  827. Gracious

  828. God

  829. We come

  830. Depending

  831. On you

  832. For all

  833. Things

  834. Thankful

  835. For all

  836. That you

  837. Have done

  838. For us

  839. Thankful

  840. For the

  841. Way you

  842. Bore

  843. The stripes

  844. That we

  845. Deserved

  846. The way

  847. Lord you

  848. Came

  849. Giving your

  850. Life

  851. As a

  852. Ransom

  853. For us

  854. And as we

  855. See

  856. These elements

  857. Before us

  858. The bread

  859. And the wine

  860. Help us

  861. To see

  862. Their significance

  863. Help us

  864. To see

  865. In them

  866. The provision

  867. Made for

  868. All of

  869. God's

  870. People

  871. That through

  872. Your body

  873. Broken

  874. Through your

  875. Blood shed

  876. That we

  877. Have

  878. The way

  879. To eternal

  880. Life

  881. The assurance

  882. Of protection

  883. From our

  884. Sin

  885. For you

  886. Died

  887. That we

  888. Might live

  889. And so

  890. Lord may

  891. You bless

  892. Us now

  893. As we

  894. Continue in

  895. This service

  896. As we

  897. Partake in

  898. The sacrament

  899. Whether we

  900. Were at

  901. The Lord's

  902. Table

  903. Or watching

  904. On

  905. May you

  906. Bless us

  907. All together

  908. Lord

  909. Encourage us

  910. In our

  911. Hearts

  912. To look

  913. To Jesus

  914. To see

  915. In him

  916. The one

  917. Who cried

  918. It is

  919. Finished

  920. And to

  921. Look to

  922. Him

  923. As the one

  924. Who is

  925. The way

  926. To life

  927. So continue

  928. With us

  929. Lord

  930. And bless

  931. Us now

  932. Pardoning

  933. Our sin

  934. In Jesus

  935. Name

  936. Amen

  937. Well as

  938. We read

  939. In the

  940. Night

  941. That Jesus

  942. Was

  943. Betrayed

  944. He took

  945. Bread

  946. And after

  947. He had

  948. Broken

  949. The bread

  950. He said

  951. Take

  952. Eat

  953. This is

  954. My body

  955. Which is

  956. Given

  957. For you

  958. We read

  959. That in

  960. The same

  961. Way

  962. He took

  963. The cup

  964. And said

  965. This cup

  966. Is a new

  967. Covenant

  968. Of my

  969. Blood

  970. Do this

  971. As often

  972. As you

  973. Drink it

  974. In

  975. Remembrance

  976. Of me

  977. For as

  978. Often as

  979. You eat

  980. This bread

  981. And drink

  982. This cup

  983. You proclaim

  984. The Lord's

  985. Death

  986. Until

  987. He comes

  988. And so

  989. We come

  990. To proclaim

  991. To show

  992. Forth

  993. The Lord's

  994. Death

  995. Until

  996. He comes

  997. Well just

  998. A few

  999. Thoughts

  1000. As we

  1001. Come

  1002. To rise

  1003. From the

  1004. Table

  1005. Just now

  1006. I believe

  1007. In the

  1008. Sunday

  1009. School

  1010. This morning

  1011. The young

  1012. Ones

  1013. We're doing

  1014. A search

  1015. Through the

  1016. Scriptures

  1017. Looking for

  1018. Different

  1019. Bible

  1020. Verses

  1021. Looking for

  1022. Different

  1023. Texts

  1024. And different

  1025. Parts

  1026. Of the

  1027. Bible

  1028. And it's

  1029. Always good

  1030. For all

  1031. Of us

  1032. Young

  1033. And old

  1034. I like

  1035. To go

  1036. Through our

  1037. Scriptures

  1038. To search

  1039. Through our

  1040. Bibles

  1041. And see all

  1042. The wonderful

  1043. Promises

  1044. That God

  1045. Gives

  1046. Through his

  1047. Word

  1048. I think

  1049. One of the

  1050. Verses

  1051. That you

  1052. Were looking

  1053. For this

  1054. Morning

  1055. Was in

  1056. The book

  1057. Of Revelation

  1058. And chapter

  1059. 20

  1060. And it's a

  1061. Verse I

  1062. Quoted last

  1063. Night

  1064. And I want

  1065. Us to think

  1066. About this

  1067. Verse as we

  1068. Come to a

  1069. Close just

  1070. Now

  1071. The verse

  1072. Says

  1073. Behold

  1074. I stand

  1075. At the

  1076. Door

  1077. And knock

  1078. If anyone

  1079. Hears my

  1080. Voice

  1081. And opens

  1082. The door

  1083. I will

  1084. Come into

  1085. Him

  1086. And eat

  1087. With him

  1088. And he

  1089. With me

  1090. There's a

  1091. Great promise

  1092. In these

  1093. Words

  1094. To us

  1095. A promise

  1096. That Jesus

  1097. Knocks

  1098. At our

  1099. Door

  1100. The door

  1101. Of our

  1102. Heart

  1103. And he

  1104. Says

  1105. If anyone

  1106. Will open

  1107. The door

  1108. I will

  1109. Come into

  1110. Him

  1111. And eat

  1112. With him

  1113. And he

  1114. With me

  1115. Now today

  1116. We've come

  1117. To worship

  1118. God together

  1119. We've come

  1120. And we've

  1121. Heard the

  1122. Lord speaking

  1123. To us

  1124. Through his

  1125. Word

  1126. And through

  1127. His

  1128. Word

  1129. He knocks

  1130. On our

  1131. Hearts

  1132. And he

  1133. Asks us

  1134. To receive

  1135. Him

  1136. Gladly

  1137. And those

  1138. Who have

  1139. Received him

  1140. Have come

  1141. To sit

  1142. At the

  1143. Lord's

  1144. Table

  1145. They've

  1146. Come to

  1147. Eat with

  1148. Him

  1149. And he

  1150. With us

  1151. We pray

  1152. That it will

  1153. Be a

  1154. Strengthening

  1155. To all

  1156. Who have

  1157. Sat at

  1158. The

  1159. Lord's

  1160. Table

  1161. But it's

  1162. Also

  1163. These

  1164. Verses

  1165. Challenge

  1166. Us

  1167. Today

  1168. As well

  1169. We've

  1170. Opened

  1171. The door

  1172. But it

  1173. Reminds us

  1174. To keep

  1175. The door

  1176. Open

  1177. Not to

  1178. Go away

  1179. And close

  1180. That door

  1181. Until the

  1182. Next time

  1183. We come

  1184. To the

  1185. Lord's

  1186. Table

  1187. But to

  1188. Keep the

  1189. Door

  1190. Always

  1191. Open

  1192. To have

  1193. The Lord

  1194. As our

  1195. Constant

  1196. Companion

  1197. The one

  1198. Who is

  1199. With us

  1200. Always

  1201. Whatever we

  1202. Are doing

  1203. That the

  1204. Door is

  1205. Open for

  1206. Him

  1207. To be

  1208. With us

  1209. And we

  1210. With him

  1211. That we

  1212. Would know

  1213. That blessing

  1214. Of his

  1215. Presence

  1216. Building us

  1217. Up

  1218. And encouraging

  1219. Us and

  1220. Strengthening

  1221. Us

  1222. In our

  1223. Faith

  1224. If you've

  1225. Opened

  1226. The door

  1227. Keep it

  1228. Open

  1229. But it

  1230. Is a

  1231. Challenge

  1232. To those

  1233. Who maybe

  1234. Haven't

  1235. Opened

  1236. The door

  1237. A challenge

  1238. To those

  1239. Who are

  1240. Hearing

  1241. The voice

  1242. Of God

  1243. Hearing him

  1244. Knocking at

  1245. The door

  1246. But the

  1247. Door is

  1248. Still

  1249. Closed

  1250. It's a

  1251. Challenge

  1252. To open

  1253. The door

  1254. To let

  1255. Him

  1256. In

  1257. To let

  1258. Him

  1259. Into your

  1260. Heart

  1261. Let him

  1262. Into your

  1263. Life

  1264. That you

  1265. Would know

  1266. The blessing

  1267. Of life

  1268. Through him

  1269. And that

  1270. Assurance

  1271. Of him

  1272. With you

  1273. Giving you

  1274. Peace

  1275. Open the

  1276. Door

  1277. If he

  1278. Is knocking

  1279. Let him

  1280. In

  1281. So that he

  1282. Will eat

  1283. With you

  1284. And you

  1285. With him

  1286. As well

  1287. So we pray

  1288. That as we

  1289. Rise from

  1290. The table

  1291. All of us

  1292. Together

  1293. Would know

  1294. The Lord

  1295. With us

  1296. An open

  1297. Door

  1298. For him

  1299. To be

  1300. With us

  1301. Day after

  1302. Day

  1303. Knowing his

  1304. Blessing

  1305. And his

  1306. Goodness

  1307. With us

  1308. All the

  1309. Days

  1310. Of our

  1311. Life

  1312. We're

  1313. Going to

  1314. Conclude

  1315. By singing

  1316. To God's

  1317. Praise

  1318. In Psalm

  1319. 72

  1320. In the

  1321. Scottish

  1322. Psalter

  1323. Psalm

  1324. 72

  1325. We'll sing

  1326. From verse

  1327. 17

  1328. Down to the

  1329. End of the

  1330. Psalm

  1331. His name

  1332. Forever

  1333. Shall endure

  1334. Last

  1335. Like the

  1336. Son it

  1337. Shall

  1338. Men

  1339. Shall

  1340. Be

  1341. Blessed

  1342. In him

  1343. And blessed

  1344. All nations

  1345. Shall

  1346. Him

  1347. Call

  1348. We'll sing

  1349. From verse

  1350. 17

  1351. To the end

  1352. Of the

  1353. Psalm

  1354. To God's

  1355. Praise

  1356. x

  1357. To he

  1358. 之後

  1359. TO value

  1360. Hisувати

  1361. First

  1362. PUT

  1363. No

  1364. In

  1365. Our

  1366. Prince

  1367. Lord

1368. All nations shall Him call.

1369. Thy blessed be the Lord our God,

  1370. the Lord of Israel.

1371. For He alone the glorious world

  1372. en gloria de ser.

1373. A blessed be the Lord our God,
