  1. who has been with us the last couple of services and will be with us again this evening.

  2. And we trust that he too will know God's blessing as he leads us in this worship of God.

  3. Thank you.

  4. Thank you very much. Thank you for your warm welcome.

  5. What a joy it is to be with you, to be in a sense at home.

  6. My watch has got artificial intelligence going on and it spoke to me when I left my mother's house today

  7. and said it was three hours and 57 minutes to the Free North in Inverness.

  8. I'm not sure if I can manage that in the little car, the VW that we have.

  9. I don't think it'll work.

  10. So artificial intelligence aside, we are glad to be together and in the house of God.

  11. And wherever we are with God's people, with God's word, and with the help of God's spirit,

  12. we are at home and we look forward to the Lord, our host,

  13. welcoming us to his sign of the supper, to his table where he will feed us.

  14. So let us lift up our hearts to God and worship today,

  15. praising God in the words of Psalm 23 from Sing Psalms.

  16. Psalm 23 in Sing Psalms, page 28.

  17. The tune Tarwathi.

  18. The Lord is my shepherd.

  19. No want shall I know.

  20. He makes me lie down where the green pastures grow.

  21. He leads me to rest where the calm waters flow.

  22. Let us stand and sing praise to our glorious shepherd.

  23. Amen.

  24. The Lord is my shepherd.

  25. No want shall I know.

  26. He makes me lie down where the green pastures grow.

  27. He leads me to rest where the calm waters flow.

  28. My wandering steps he brings back to his way.

  29. In straight paths of righteousness making me stay.

  30. And this he has done his great name to display.

  31. Though I walk in death's valley where darkness is near.

  32. Because you are with me, no evil I'll fear.

  33. Your rod and your staff bring me comfort and cheer.

  34. In the sight of my enemies a table you spread.

  35. The oil of rejoicing you pour on my head.

  36. My cup overflows and I'm graciously fed.

  37. So surely your covenant mercy and grace

  38. Will follow me closely in all of my ways.

  39. I will dwell in the house of the Lord Almighty.

  40. Jesus.

  41. We can unite our hearts together in prayer as we come near to God.

  42. Lord, our gracious God and our gracious and good shepherd,

  43. we acknowledge our need of help today as we meet together for worship.

  44. Draw near to us as you have promised in your word.

  45. And grant to us the joy of our Savior Jesus Christ,

  46. that shepherd of the sheep who died to unite his flock,

  47. to cleanse them and to feed them with his own body and with his own blood.

  48. We ask that we will not draw back in unbelief and that we will not be influenced by the tide of the times that we are living in.

  49. To turn away from the Lord and from your word.

  50. But help us to be open before the eye of the Lord and before the voice of the Lord,

  51. that we might meet with God today and receive a blessing.

  52. We bless the Lord for the gift of living bread,

  53. the manna that has come down from heaven,

  54. Jesus Christ,

  55. and for the written word of God,

  56. also living bread.

  57. Nourish us with fellowship with yourself,

  58. with fellowship with our Savior Jesus,

  59. and with fellowship a shared life and love for one another and for all your people.

  60. Be our teacher and increase our hunger and our thirst

  61. for the one who is the way and the truth and the life.

  62. And grant that we may delight in having the word of God broken for us,

  63. so that we might feed on it and share it with others.

  64. Give us a holy joy and a holy excitement,

  65. a thrill in our hearts,

  66. as we are reminded of truths we know already,

  67. and as we learn, perhaps,

  68. to see the truth afresh and anew,

  69. and to learn new things about our great God and King.

  70. We pray for the young,

  71. for children,

  72. for young adults,

  73. for families,

  74. and for every individual

  75. who is part of the body of Christ in this place.

  76. Bless this church as a light and a witness in this community,

  77. the office bearers,

  78. the ministers,

  79. and their families,

  80. and all who serve in different ministries and in different ways.

  81. And even today,

  82. we ask that the kingdom of God will advance.

  83. We ask the blessing of heaven

  84. on the Gallic section of the congregation,

  85. meeting together,

  86. on Mr. MacDonald as he leads their worship.

  87. We pray blessing on every gospel church,

  88. gathering as we do today,

  89. across our nation,

  90. and even in this community,

  91. when other congregations are also remembering the Lord's death

  92. until he come again.

  93. We ask that the blessing we long for

  94. will break out here

  95. and in every place

  96. where the Lord's people seek his face.

  97. Show us how to help and encourage one another

  98. and how to pray for one another

  99. and how to pray for different fellowships and congregations

  100. that each might thrive to the glory of God.

  101. We remember the sick and the suffering.

  102. We remember those with burdens and concerns today.

  103. Comfort those who are grieving

  104. and bring near to us

  105. the face of the one that we love

  106. and that we look forward to seeing

  107. when he comes in his might and power and glory.

  108. May we welcome him.

  109. We recognize that many have gone before us

  110. and that they sleep in Jesus

  111. waiting for the day of his glorious appearing.

  112. They already see his face

  113. but they await the resurrection

  114. and all the joy that that will bring.

  115. May we share in the hope

  116. of the church through ages past

  117. that in Jesus Christ

  118. death is swallowed up in victory.

  119. May we have no fear today.

  120. May we not be disturbed

  121. by the work of the wicked one

  122. but may we know that supernatural grace and peace

  123. that flows from the one

  124. who was wounded for us,

  125. who was crushed for us

  126. and who conquered death

  127. and was raised

  128. on the third day.

  129. Lord, where there is darkness,

  130. shine your light.

  131. Lord, where there is fear,

  132. bring your peace

  133. and grant that today

  134. will be a day that we will remember

  135. for meeting

  136. the Lord Jesus.

  137. Bless us and keep us

  138. and we pray through Jesus Christ

  139. seeking peace and pardon.

  140. Amen.

  141. Boys and girls,

  142. I'm not going to take long

  143. to speak to you today.

  144. It's just lovely to see

  145. children and young people here.

  146. I grew up in this church

  147. and it was about 40 years ago

  148. when I was 15

  149. that I first was helped

  150. to sit at the Lord's table

  151. and begin to know something

  152. of growing in the knowledge of God

  153. through the things that were being taught.

  154. But that didn't happen

  155. without lots of people helping

  156. and praying for me

  157. as a child,

  158. family and Sunday school

  159. and what have you.

  160. And I want to thank God

  161. for all those people

  162. who taught me

  163. the way of Jesus.

  164. And I am sure

  165. there are people

  166. teaching you

  167. the way of Jesus

  168. as well.

  169. Some of you

  170. will be Christians,

  171. you will be believers,

  172. maybe very young

  173. and that's a wonderful thing.

  174. And it's good

  175. to tell other people

  176. when we are praying

  177. and when we know

  178. that God is hearing

  179. our prayers.

  180. And it's good

  181. to ask for help

  182. but most of all

  183. it's good

  184. to ask the Lord himself

  185. to show us

  186. the next steps

  187. and the way

  188. that we are to

  189. glorify him.

  190. And that might be

  191. even as a child

  192. or a young person

  193. finding out

  194. what it means

  195. to belong

  196. to God's people

  197. as a member,

  198. as a professing

  199. Christian

  200. and follower

  201. of Jesus.

  202. That happened

  203. for me

  204. 40 years ago

  205. in this church.

  206. You can do the maths

  207. and you'll know

  208. how old I am.

  209. But

  210. I am thankful

  211. that God

  212. has never

  213. taken his eye

  214. off

  215. that boy

  216. who became

  217. a man.

  218. And if you

  219. are walking

  220. with Jesus,

  221. girl or boy,

  222. whatever stage

  223. you're at,

  224. God will never

  225. take his eye

  226. off you.

  227. You can trust him.

  228. And we pray together

  229. the words

  230. that Jesus

  231. gave us.

  232. our Father,

  233. which art in heaven,

  234. hallowed be thy name.

  235. Thy kingdom come.

  236. Thy will be done

  237. on earth

  238. as it is

  239. in heaven.

  240. Give us this day

  241. our daily bread

  242. and forgive us

  243. our debts

  244. as we

  245. forgive

  246. our debtors.

  247. And lead us not

  248. into temptation,

  249. but deliver us

  250. from evil.

  251. for thine

  252. is the kingdom,

  253. the power

  254. and the glory

  255. forever.

  256. Amen.

  257. I believe

  258. the children

  259. are coming back

  260. into church

  261. at the end

  262. of our service

  263. and we pray

  264. God's blessing

  265. on all you do

  266. and learn

  267. together.

  268. We are going

  269. to sing,

  270. we're going to

  271. read God's word

  272. now in John's

  273. Gospel,

  274. chapter 19.

  275. John,

    John 19 chapter mention

  276. chapter 19.

  277. On Friday

  278. evening,

  279. Saturday evening,

  280. we began

  281. to work

  282. our way

  283. through

  284. this great

  285. chapter

  286. that speaks

  287. of Christ

  288. on the cross.

  289. We saw

  290. him

  291. as

  292. the man

  293. being presented

  294. to Jerusalem

  295. by Pontius Pilate.

  296. Did they want him?

  297. Did they want

  298. Jesus

  299. for their king?

  300. Behold the man,

  301. behold the king.

  302. And they were

  303. rejecting him.

  304. We saw him

  305. as the son,

  306. God's son

  307. and Mary's son,

  308. but also

  309. as the one

  310. who carries

  311. shame

  312. to the cross.

  313. And today,

  314. we are going

  315. to see him

  316. on the cross

  317. dying,

  318. so behold

  319. today,

  320. behold the one

  321. they have

  322. pierced.

  323. And that

  324. scripture

  325. is in John

  326. 19

  327. from verse

  328. 28

  329. onwards.

  330. Then they

  331. led Jesus

  332. from,

  333. I beg your

  334. pardon,

  335. John 19

  336. and verse

  337. 20,

  338. 28.

  339. After this,

  340. Jesus,

  341. knowing that

  342. all was now

  343. finished,

  344. said,

  345. to fulfill

  346. the scripture,

  347. I thirst.

  348. A jar full

  349. of sour

  350. wine stood

  351. there.

  352. So they put

  353. a sponge

  354. full of the

  355. sour wine

  356. on a hyssop

  357. branch

  358. and held

  359. it to

  360. his mouth.

  361. When Jesus

  362. had received

  363. the sour

  364. wine,

  365. he said,

  366. it is

  367. finished.

  368. And he

  369. bowed his

  370. head

  371. and gave

  372. up

  373. his

  374. spirit.

  375. Since it

  376. was the

  377. day

  378. of

  379. preparation

  380. and so

  381. that the

  382. bodies

  383. would not

  384. remain on

  385. the cross

  386. on the

  387. Sabbath,

  388. for that

  389. Sabbath was

  390. a high

  391. day,

  392. the Jews

  393. asked

  394. Pilate

  395. that their

  396. legs might

  397. be broken

  398. and that

  399. they might

  400. be taken

  401. away.

  402. So the

  403. soldiers came

  404. and broke

  405. the legs

  406. of the

  407. first and

  408. of the

  409. other who

  410. had been

  411. crucified

  412. with him.

  413. But when

  414. they came

  415. to Jesus

  416. and saw

  417. that he

  418. was already

  419. dead,

  420. they did

  421. not break

  422. his legs.

  423. But one

  424. of the

  425. soldiers

  426. pierced

  427. his side

  428. with a

  429. spear,

  430. and at

  431. once

  432. there came

  433. out

  434. blood

  435. and

  436. water.

  437. He who

  438. saw it

  439. has borne

  440. witness.

  441. His

  442. testimony

  443. is

  444. true,

  445. and he

  446. knows

  447. that he

  448. is telling

  449. the truth,

  450. that you

  451. also may

  452. believe.

  453. For these

  454. things took

  455. place,

  456. that the

  457. scripture

  458. might be

  459. fulfilled,

  460. not

  461. one of

  462. his bones

  463. will be

  464. broken.

  465. And again,

  466. another

  467. scripture

  468. says,

  469. they will

  470. look

  471. on him

  472. whom

  473. they

  474. have

  475. pierced.

  476. This is

  477. the word

  478. of the

  479. Lord,

  480. holy and

  481. inspired.

  482. Thanks be

  483. to God.

  484. We sing

  485. praises

  486. from

  487. Psalm 40

  488. in

  489. Sing

  490. Psalms,

  491. Psalm 40

  492. in

  493. Sing

  494. Psalms,

  495. and we're

  496. taking up

  497. the singing

  498. at verse

  499. 13.

  500. The tune is

  501. Herongate,

  502. Psalm 40,

  503. and at

  504. verse 13

  505. on page

  506. 51,

  507. be

  508. pleased,

  509. O Lord,

  510. to rescue

  511. me,

  512. O Lord,

  513. come quickly

  514. to my

  515. aid.

  516. Shall we

  517. stand and

  518. sing in

  519. Psalm 40

  520. from verse

  521. 13?

  522. Be

  523. pleased,

  524. O Lord,

  525. to rescue

  526. me,

  527. O Lord,

  528. come quickly

  529. to my

  530. aid.

  531. May all

  532. who

  533. seek

  534. my

  535. love

  536. to take

  537. my

  538. life

  539. with

  540. shame

  541. and

  542. turmoil

  543. be

  544. repaid.

  545. May

  546. all

  547. who

  548. plot

  549. my

  550. overthrow

  551. turn

  552. back

  553. disgrace

  554. the way

  555. they

  556. came

  557. me

  558. to

  559. my

  560. face

  561. be

  562. come

  563. upon

  564. not

  565. their

  566. own

  567. shame

  568. but

  569. let

  570. all

  571. those

  572. who

  573. seek

  574. your

  575. face

  576. be

  577. joyful

  578. in

  579. you

  580. all

  581. their

  582. days

  583. let

  584. those

  585. who

  586. love

  587. salvation

  588. say

  589. exalted

  590. be

  591. the

  592. Lord

  593. always

  594. yet

  595. I

  596. am

  597. poor

  598. and

  599. in

  600. great

  601. need

  602. need

  603. Lord

  604. take

  605. on

  606. me

  607. I

  608. humbly

  609. pray

  610. you

  611. are

  612. my

  613. savior

  614. and

  615. my

  616. help

  617. come

  618. oh

  619. my

  620. God

  621. do

  622. not

  623. delay

  624. do

  625. not

  626. delay

  627. at this

  628. point we're going to focus on God's word for the next little while in the gospel of John and in chapter 19 be helpful to have that portion of God's word open the story of our savior

  629. on the cross

  630. on the cross

  631. on the tree behold the one

  632. they have

  633. they have

  634. pierced

  635. I don't know if you've ever worked out how many days or weeks you have been alive

  636. it might be a strange thing to do but we know that the Lord Jesus life

  637. was cut short at around 33 years of age

  638. even that in the ancient world was a reasonable life span he was not old when he died but he had lived for over 30 years and that amounts to about 1700 weeks but the Bible

  639. but the Bible

  640. tells the story in great detail

  641. of only one of those weeks

  642. of only one of those weeks

  643. he lived for over 30 years

  644. but the Bible focuses

  645. on his last week

  646. and especially on his last day

  647. and especially on his last hours

  648. and especially on his last hours

  649. because the central story of the scripture

  650. is that the God who came among us the word who was made flesh died

  651. suffered and died

  652. tested death

  653. that is where all four gospels head

  654. about a third of Matthew

  655. Mark and Luke and John

  656. is devoted to the last week

  657. and last day

  658. and last hours

  659. of the life of Jesus

  660. the very heart

  661. of our faith

  662. is that our God

  663. took our flesh

  664. and died

  665. for his people

  666. we have been commanded by Jesus

  667. in the sign of the Lord's Supper

  668. to remember his death

  669. we could have been given a sign

  670. to remember his birth

  671. and that he took flesh

  672. but that is not what we were given

  673. there are two gospel signs

  674. that bind us together

  675. as the covenant people of God

  676. the sign of baptism

  677. using water

  678. a sign of washing

  679. and using bread and wine

  680. in the supper of the lamb

  681. a reminder of his body

  682. and his blood

  683. and of his death

  684. but both those signs

  685. both baptism and communion

  686. are reminders of the cross

  687. they are reminders

  688. that we need to be washed and cleansed

  689. and receive new life

  690. and we need to be joined

  691. to be joined

  692. to the people of God

  693. and become members of his body

  694. parts of his body

  695. these two gospel signs

  696. are both connected

  697. to the cross

  698. and to the work of salvation

  699. of redemption

  700. right through history

  701. there are so many connections

  702. with the exodus

  703. with the way God

  704. revealed himself

  705. in the old covenant

  706. in the old covenant

  707. in the old testament

  708. and with all the acts

  709. of the Holy Spirit

  710. in the new testament

  711. I want us to see

  712. three things this morning

  713. in our message

  714. and the first is to focus

  715. on Jesus' last words

  716. Jesus' last words

  717. then we will think

  718. about Jesus' last strength

  719. and then we will think

  720. Jesus' last gift

  721. to us

  722. so Jesus' last words

  723. they are recorded for us

  724. in John's gospel

  725. and in the short reading

  726. that we had today

  727. we saw that Jesus was conscious

  728. that everything was now

  729. finished, fulfilled

  730. and he said to fulfill scripture

  731. to finish scripture

  732. to finish scripture

  733. I thirst

  734. a few verses later

  735. we hear the very last word

  736. and we know from the other gospels

  737. it wasn't a weak word

  738. it was a strong

  739. a loud word

  740. a single word

  741. in the Greek language

  742. that the new testament

  743. was written in

  744. and his last word was

  745. as a shout

  746. it is finished

  747. it is finished

  748. I am thirsty

  749. I thirst

  750. he takes a drink

  751. in fulfillment

  752. of prophecy

  753. and scripture

  754. and having taken the drink

  755. it is finished

  756. and he dismisses his soul

  757. he bows his head

  758. he is in an instant

  759. physically dead

  760. and his soul

  761. his spirit

  762. is with his father

  763. in the kingdom of heaven

  764. the bitter cup

  765. that the father

  766. has asked him to drink

  767. has been drunk

  768. to the very last drop

  769. that phrase

  770. it is finished

  771. is often preached on

  772. it is a wonderful word

  773. tetelestai

  774. it is finished

  775. and lots of things

  776. have been said about it

  777. but what I want you to notice

  778. this morning

  779. in these last words

  780. of Jesus

  781. is just the emphasis

  782. on the thirst

  783. and the drink

  784. and it being finished

  785. that word

  786. spoken by Jesus

  787. on the cross

  788. it is finished

  789. it is actually in the text

  790. three times

  791. twice

  792. in kind of an identical form

  793. a verbal form

  794. a verbal form

  795. it is finished

  796. it is finished

  797. it is there in verse 28

  798. Jesus knowing

  799. that all was now

  800. finished

  801. said

  802. but the next little phrase

  803. that is in brackets

  804. in the ESV

  805. to fulfill

  806. the scripture

  807. well the word for fulfilling

  808. is really from the same root

  809. as the word for finishing

  810. to fill

  811. to fulfill

  812. to fulfill

  813. and to finish

  814. you can see how they are connected

  815. even in English

  816. you get to the fulfillment

  817. you have finished

  818. then the word on the cross

  819. after the drink

  820. it is

  821. finished

  822. he came to finish

  823. the task that the father gave him

  824. he did not stumble

  825. the scripture

  826. was finished

  827. the scripture

  828. was fulfilled

  829. Jesus' last words

  830. but secondly

  831. we are going to think

  832. about Jesus' last strength

  833. what he did

  834. with the last grace and strength

  835. that God gave to him

  836. what was he doing

  837. what was he doing

  838. on the cross

  839. that took his last strength

  840. what was he doing

  841. as he took those last

  842. bitter sips of bitter wine

  843. on a sponge

  844. soaked with wine vinegar

  845. and held up to him

  846. on a hyssop plant

  847. on the branch of a hyssop

  848. what was he doing?

  849. well we know

  850. he was fulfilling

  851. scripture

  852. deliberately

  853. and consciously

  854. others were fulfilling

  855. scripture

  856. maybe not

  857. realizing that they were

  858. doing it

  859. maybe their

  860. their own

  861. sinful inclinations

  862. and sinful

  863. wills

  864. leading them to do

  865. things

  866. that God

  867. had long before

  868. foreordained

  869. would come to pass

  870. for his glory

  871. and for our

  872. salvation

  873. but Jesus

  874. is using

  875. his last strength

  876. to fulfill

  877. the Passover

  878. to be the true

  879. Lamb of God

  880. who takes away

  881. the sins

  882. of the world

  883. the one

  884. John the Baptist

  885. pointed to

  886. on the first page

  887. of this gospel

  888. God's Lamb

  889. the sin carrying

  890. Lamb of God

  891. the Passover

  892. is looking

  893. forward

  894. to its

  895. fulfillment

  896. in Jesus

  897. it is at

  898. a Passover

  899. that he

  900. gives his

  901. first sign

  902. in John's

  903. Gospel

  904. chapter 2

  905. the Passover

  906. that he went up to

  907. at Jerusalem

  908. at the beginning of his

  909. public ministry

  910. and the first sign

  911. by which he showed

  912. his glory

  913. and now his ministry

  914. is ending

  915. and the last

  916. great sign

  917. of John's

  918. Gospel of signs

  919. will be the

  920. resurrection

  921. of the Passover

  922. Lamb

  923. it is amazing

  924. how the scripture

  925. comes together

  926. and at the Passover

  927. he eats the Passover

  928. in Jerusalem

  929. with his disciples

  930. in the upper room

  931. and amazingly

  932. the Gospel of John

  933. doesn't focus

  934. on the action

  935. in the Passover

  936. with bread

  937. and wine

  938. the other Gospels

  939. will tell you

  940. about that

  941. John wants you

  942. to know

  943. about the conversation

  944. and the worship

  945. and the foot washing

  946. and the praying

  947. because John's

  948. Passover

  949. Passover

  950. is really going to happen

  951. not in the upper room

  952. with the apostles

  953. gathered around

  954. a table

  955. John's Passover

  956. is not on Thursday night

  957. but on Friday

  958. at the place of the skull

  959. at the place

  960. where the last strength

  961. of the Lamb

  962. is given

  963. is given

  964. to die

  965. as the Lamb

  966. I

  967. thirst

  968. it

  969. is

  970. finished

  971. what kept

  972. Jesus going

  973. was this desire

  974. this longing

  975. to obey

  976. his Father

  977. to the very end

  978. and he was sent

  979. to be that Lamb

  980. part of

  981. his mission

  982. was to be

  983. a perfect Lamb

  984. not a bone

  985. of his body

  986. could be broken

  987. when the soldiers

  988. came to

  989. hasten the deaths

  990. of the three men

  991. who were being crucified

  992. because the

  993. the Friday sunset

  994. would begin

  995. the Sabbath

  996. and it was a special Sabbath

  997. a Passover Sabbath

  998. a high Sabbath

  999. and there was no question

1000. the Jews would not be happy

  1001. to have the land

  1002. under a curse

  1003. because a dead body

1004. was hanging on a tree

  1005. cursed by God

  1006. overnight

  1007. and over a Sabbath

  1008. it couldn't be allowed

  1009. so hurry up

  1010. the execution

1011. get rid of these men

1012. get rid of their bodies

1013. throw them in their graves

  1014. well there's no need

  1015. to hurry up

  1016. the death of Jesus

  1017. he has used

  1018. his last strength

1019. to take the bitter drink

  1020. that Psalm 22

  1021. and Psalm 69

  1022. said he would take

  1023. and without a bone

  1024. of his body

  1025. being broken

  1026. he is the perfect

  1027. Paschal Lamb

  1028. Exodus 12

    Exodus 12:46

  1029. verse 46

  1030. Numbers 9

    Numbers 9:12

  1031. verse 12

  1032. the Lamb

  1033. must be perfect

  1034. and no bone

  1035. can be broken

  1036. not even

  1037. as its blood

  1038. is being drained

  1039. from it

1040. or as it is being

  1041. prepared

  1042. to be roasted

  1043. and consumed

  1044. by those

  1045. who are in fellowship

  1046. with God

  1047. and in fellowship

  1048. with their Lamb

  1049. who has died

  1050. for them

  1051. so that they

  1052. so that they

  1053. do not die

  1054. so that they

  1055. go free

  1056. from Egypt

  1057. go free

  1058. from Pharaoh

  1059. go free

  1060. from the bondage

  1061. that has held them

  1062. Passover is liberation

  1063. Passover is salvation

  1064. Passover is the Lamb

  1065. dead in every house

1066. and the blood of the Lamb

  1067. on the doorposts

  1068. of every house

  1069. and Jesus is fulfilling

  1070. that picture

1071. he is the source of life

  1072. of life and freedom

  1073. and his last strength

  1074. is to say

  1075. I thirst

  1076. Psalm 22

1077. my tongue sticks to my jaws

  1078. but Psalm 22 ends

  1079. with worship

  1080. and tell the nations

1081. the Lord has done it

  1082. it's done

  1083. it's achieved

  1084. it's finished

  1085. it's finished

  1086. Psalm 69

  1087. they gave me poison

  1088. for food

  1089. and for my thirst

1090. they gave me sour wine

  1091. to drink

  1092. surrounded by wild animals

  1093. surrounded by men

  1094. like beasts

  1095. he uses his strength

  1096. to finish

  1097. to finish

  1098. isn't it strange

  1099. that they picked up

  1100. a branch of hyssop

1101. to give him the drink

  1102. that he asked for

  1103. to finish the mission

  1104. he was sent

  1105. to do

  1106. hyssop

  1107. the same plant

  1108. that they used

  1109. in the Passover

1110. in the book of Exodus

1111. to paint their door frames

  1112. with the lamb's blood

  1113. nothing

  1114. no detail

  1115. in this story

  1116. is random

  1117. or accidental

  1118. Jesus

  1119. last words

  1120. Jesus

  1121. last strength

  1122. and then thirdly

  1123. Jesus

  1124. last

  1125. gift

1126. what did he give us

  1127. as he was dying

  1128. verse 30

  1129. when Jesus had received

  1130. the sour wine

  1131. he said

  1132. it is finished

1133. and he bowed his head

  1134. and he gave up

  1135. his spirit

  1136. verse 34

  1137. one of the soldiers

  1138. came

  1139. to break his legs

1140. but the one of the soldiers

  1141. instead

  1142. pierced his side

  1143. with a spear

  1144. and at once

  1145. there came out

1146. what came out of Jesus' body

  1147. his last gift

  1148. to his people

  1149. blood

  1150. and water

1151. that could just be an incident

  1152. being recorded

1153. because well that's what happened

1154. and that's what the witness saw

  1155. saw

1156. but the verses that come after it

1157. make a big deal of it

  1158. they are important

  1159. to the writer

  1160. of this gospel

1161. and as we've seen a few times

1162. in looking at this chapter

1163. and if you're familiar with the rest of John's gospel

  1164. you will know

1165. that often John will refer to himself

1166. almost with a sense of embarrassment

1167. he will find an oblique way

  1168. to refer to himself

1169. as the disciple Jesus loved

  1170. the beloved disciple

  1171. he's the one

1172. who's to take Mary home

  1173. from the cross

1174. and we found out last night

  1175. in verse 27

  1176. that from that hour

1177. John was to take Mary

  1178. and care for her

1179. and take her to his own home

  1180. but from that hour

  1181. does not mean that

1182. John and Mary left the cross

  1183. right then

  1184. because the hour

  1185. is the moment

1186. this gospel has been moving towards

1187. of the death of the Lamb of God

1188. and I'm pretty firmly convinced

  1189. that John was there

1190. to see how Jesus died

  1191. and how that spear

1192. that lance was put to his side

  1193. and how

  1194. there was no heartbeat

1195. there was no life in the body

1196. to keep the fluids of his body together

1197. there was blood that flowed from his side

  1198. a dead man

1199. and there was water that had been parted from that blood

  1200. flowing from his side

  1201. and in that order

  1202. water first

  1203. and then blood

  1204. John saw it

  1205. John is the eyewitness

  1206. because he says

1207. he who saw it has borne witness

  1208. his testimony is true

1209. and he knows that he's telling the truth

1210. that you also may believe

1211. for those things took place

1212. that the scripture might be fulfilled

1213. not one of his bones will be broken

1214. and again another scripture says

1215. they will look on him whom they have pierced

1216. his last gift to us

1217. is that he allowed his body to be pierced

1218. in fulfillment of the prophecies of the Old Testament

1219. and the proof that he was dead

1220. was that he was violently pierced with a spear

1221. and his blood flowed out of him

1222. and water flowed out of him

1223. what does that last gift mean?

1224. in a gospel where there is often

  1225. symbolism and meaning

  1226. in all the details

  1227. what does it mean?

  1228. John Calvin believed

  1229. that the Old Testament

1230. way of peace with God

  1231. could be

  1232. gathered together

  1233. under two headings

  1234. sacrifices

  1235. of blood

  1236. and washings

  1237. the law

  1238. the old covenant

1239. the way to draw near to God

  1240. before Jesus came

1241. and before his sacrifice and fulfillment

  1242. was a covenant

  1243. was a covenant

  1244. expressed in

  1245. blood sacrifice

  1246. and water

  1247. washing

  1248. I don't think Calvin is wrong

  1249. to see God working

  1250. and the Spirit working

1251. to bring life and salvation

  1252. and cleansing

  1253. through the blood shed

  1254. that cleanses

  1255. this is

  1256. this is a one-off gift

1257. this is a gift that

  1258. had never happened before

1259. although the worship of the old covenant

  1260. pointed forward to it

  1261. it was partial

  1262. it was symbolic

  1263. it was provisional

  1264. it was a shadow

  1265. now

  1266. the Lamb of God

  1267. true Lamb

  1268. dies

  1269. now

  1270. the Passover Lamb

  1271. is offered

  1272. now

  1273. his blood

  1274. is offered

  1275. to mark you

  1276. safe

  1277. from God's judgment

  1278. now

  1279. water is poured out

  1280. cleansing

  1281. water

  1282. water

  1283. that stands for

  1284. the process of birth

  1285. birth from water

1286. you must be born again

1287. you must be made new

1288. the Spirit often in Scripture

1289. using the symbol of water

  1290. to describe his work

1291. the Spirit applying the work of the Son

  1292. blood and water

1293. in the story of the Exodus

1294. in the story of the Passover

  1295. the Passover

  1296. the blood comes first

1297. on the night of the Passover

  1298. the Lamb is consumed

1299. and the Lamb's blood is over the doorposts

  1300. and the lintels

1301. and the people go free

1302. they are saved that night

  1303. but they immediately

  1304. journey to the sea

  1305. and they pass through

1306. the waters of the sea

1307. parted for them by God

  1308. and they are baptized

  1309. into Moses

  1310. in the water

  1311. in the sea

  1312. they are identified

  1313. as God's people

1314. saved and marked as saved

  1315. at Passover

1316. and separated from their old life

1317. that they are leaving behind

1318. and the pursuit of their enemies

  1319. they pass through water

  1320. blood and water

  1321. in that order

  1322. is at the cross

1323. surely it is an echo of the Exodus

1324. and surely it is a fulfillment

  1325. of all the sacrifices

1326. of all the drink offerings

1327. of all the altars that were raised up

1328. and had water poured over them

1329. or wine poured over them

  1330. under the old covenant

  1331. what is his gift

  1332. his last gift

  1333. his blood

  1334. makes

  1335. the sinful

  1336. clean

  1337. his blood

  1338. sets

  1339. the prisoner

  1340. free

  1341. it

  1342. is

  1343. finished

  1344. and

  1345. John

  1346. who saw it

  1347. bears witness

  1348. and his testimony

  1349. is true

  1350. and he knows

1351. he is telling the truth

1352. you will hear him say something very similar

  1353. in the next chapter

  1354. that you also may

  1355. believe

  1356. believe

  1357. do you believe

  1358. in this

  1359. Jesus

  1360. do you believe

  1361. that his obedience

  1362. was for your salvation

1363. and that he has tasted

  1364. death for you

1365. and that you will not

  1366. taste death

  1367. because of that

  1368. do you believe

1369. that he has cleansed you

  1370. every sin

  1371. and washed you

  1372. as his bride

  1373. do you believe

  1374. that you were there

  1375. at the cross

  1376. because he loved you

1377. and he knew your name

  1378. and he was thinking

  1379. about his father

  1380. and about you

  1381. then come

  1382. and worship him

  1383. at his table

  1384. and come

  1385. and remember him

  1386. at his table

  1387. and come

  1388. and feed on him

1389. looking forward to the day

  1390. when you handle

  1391. his hands

  1392. you see his face

  1393. you hear his voice

1394. and you are with him

  1395. forever

  1396. forever

  1397. Lord God

  1398. Adam slept

1399. and you took a bride

  1400. from his side

  1401. and gave the bride

  1402. to the man

  1403. in death

  1404. our Saviour

  1405. the second

  1406. and last Adam

  1407. slept

1408. and you have given him a bride

  1409. out of his substance

  1410. out of water

  1411. and blood

1412. that flowed from his side

  1413. love us today

  1414. with the love

  1415. of the cross

  1416. and assure us today

1417. that we need fear nothing

  1418. strengthen us

  1419. to love you

  1420. to serve you

1421. and to love one another

  1422. through Jesus Christ

  1423. our Lord

  1424. Amen.

1425. We are going to sing

  1426. to God's praise

  1427. from Sing Psalms

  1428. and Psalm 34

  1429. Sing Psalms

  1430. and Psalm 34

  1431. the opening verses

  1432. the verses marked

  1433. 1 to 4

  1434. of the psalm

  1435. to the tune

  1436. Jackson

  1437. Psalm 34

    Psalms 34:2

  1438. verse 2 stanzas

1439. and then we will go down

1440. to the end of the psalm

  1441. verse 17

  1442. the last 3 stanzas

  1443. Psalm 34

  1444. the opening 2

1445. and the last 3 verses

  1446. of the psalm

  1447. at all times

1448. I will bless the Lord

  1449. I'll praise him

  1450. with my voice

  1451. the tune

  1452. Jackson

  1453. at all times

1454. I will bless the Lord

  1455. I'll praise him

  1456. with my voice

1457. because I glory in the Lord

  1458. my glory

  1459. in the Lord

  1460. let troubled souls

  1461. rejoice

1462. together let us praise the Lord

  1463. the Lord

  1464. exalt his name

  1465. with me

  1466. I sought the Lord

  1467. his answer came

  1468. from fears

  1469. he set me free

  1470. the righteous

  1471. cry the Lord

  1472. the Lord responds

  1473. and frees them

  1474. when distressed

1475. the Lord draws near the broken heart

  1476. heart and rest

  1477. use the depressed

  1478. from all the troubles

  1479. of the just

1480. the Lord will set him free

1481. the Lord protects his every poor

1482. and broken none will be

1483. the wicked are condemned to death

1484. all those who hate the just

  1485. God saves his own

  1486. they're not condemned

1487. for in the Lord they trust

  1488. they trust

1489. the Lord Jesus looked forward to being in the upper room with his friends

1490. and showing them that he was their Passover

  1491. he was their lamb

1492. he was giving his body and his blood for them

1493. he looked forward to the climax of teaching and discipling

  1494. his friends

1495. his friends in the upper room

1496. but the Lord Jesus looks forward to every time

1497. his people meet in his name

1498. to remember his death until he comes

  1499. and just as eagerly

1500. he looks forward to sitting in his kingdom

  1501. with you

1502. and with all his saints

1503. when death is no more

1504. and sorrow is no more

  1505. and today

  1506. is a help

  1507. a reminder

  1508. an encouragement

  1509. to keep feeding

1510. because you will be feasting

  1511. to keep near

1512. because you will be nearer

  1513. to keep turning

  1514. and confessing your sins

1515. because they have already been nailed to the tree

1516. we are called by Christ

  1517. to live in communion

  1518. with him

  1519. with the triune God

1520. and to live in trinity

  1521. fellowship and union

1522. with all those in whom God's love resides

1523. when we break bread together

1524. we are expressing our unity

1525. and our love for one another

1526. our need of each other

1527. our care and respect for one another

1528. we need the older ones

1529. we need the younger ones

1530. we need the ones who have many problems in their lives

1531. that need our care and support

1532. we need the straightforward ones

1533. we need the complicated ones

1534. and the blood is over the doorposts

1535. and it says stay together

  1536. as the family

  1537. stay together

  1538. under the blood

1539. don't be jealous of one another

  1540. don't despise one another

  1541. forgive one another

  1542. maintain unity

1543. if he is your lamb

  1544. and you love him

1545. and these are your people

  1546. and you love them

1547. there is one place where we need to be

1548. and that is eating and drinking

  1549. in memory of him

  1550. celebrating our saviour's love

  1551. and victory

  1552. his Passover

  1553. his exodus

1554. and then at the table

1555. we are not saying look at me

1556. we are saying look at my saviour

1557. who gave his body and his blood

  1558. to wash

  1559. me

1560. what is the right way to come

1561. confessing our sins to the Lord

  1562. in confidence

1563. that they are blotted out

  1564. at the cross

  1565. and to come expecting

  1566. more of Jesus

  1567. more of the Lord

  1568. the Lord

  1569. who has given us

  1570. his all

  1571. I just want to

1572. pray that we might all

  1573. be right with God

  1574. and confess our sins

1575. and if there is someone

1576. who is not at the table

1577. who perhaps ought to be

1578. will you do something about that

  1579. merciful Father you have

  1580. given your son

1581. and there is no greater gift

1582. and he has given his body

  1583. and his blood

1584. and the water that flowed

1585. he has given his all

  1586. it is finished

  1587. forgive us when we

  1588. forget him

  1589. and his sacrifice

  1590. forgive us when we

1591. blunder into sin and forget

1592. that we are crucifying the Lord

  1593. Lord all over again

  1594. forgive us that our

1595. love is such a poor return

  1596. for his love

1597. enable us to come and sit at this table today

  1598. forgiven

  1599. washed

  1600. cleansed

1601. and in fellowship with God

1602. through Jesus Christ our Lord

  1603. Amen

  1604. we will

  1605. be seated

1606. if we are not already seated

  1607. at the table

  1608. for sharing in communion

  1609. during the singing of

  1610. Psalm 116

  1611. from the Scottish Psalter

  1612. verses 11 to 19

  1613. from the

  1614. Tunis Cunningham

  1615. Psalm 116

  1616. from verse 11

1617. when I was in my haste

1618. that all men liars be

1619. what shall I render to the Lord

  1620. for all his gifts

  1621. to me

  1622. we stand and sing

  1623. I said

  1624. I said

1625. when I was in my haste

1626. that all men liars be

1627. what shall I render to the Lord

1628. for all his gifts to me

1629. what shall I render to the Lord

1630. for all his gifts to me

1631. what shall I render to the Lord

1632. for all his gifts to me

  1633. I'll love salvation

  1634. take the cup

  1635. on God's name

  1636. will I call

1637. I'll pay my vows now to the Lord

  1638. before his people all

  1639. dear in God's sight

  1640. is his saints death

  1641. thy servant

  1642. Lord am I

  1643. thy servant

  1644. sure

  1645. thine handmaid

  1646. son

  1647. thy

  1648. guy

  1649. the

  1650. name

  1651. x

  1652. call. I'll

  1653. pay my vows now

  1654. to the Lord before

  1655. his people all.

  1656. Within the

  1657. courts of God's own

  1658. house, within

  1659. the midst of

  1660. thee, O

  1661. city of

  1662. Jerusalem,

  1663. praise to

  1664. the Lord

  1665. give ye.

  1666. Brothers and sisters,

  1667. as we gather

  1668. together at the

  1669. Lord's table, it is

  1670. right that we should

  1671. remind ourselves of

  1672. the words of

  1673. institution and that

  1674. we should use these

  1675. to help us to

  1676. prepare our hearts

  1677. for where we are

  1678. and what we are

  1679. here to do.

  1680. Paul says in

  1681. 1 Corinthians 11,

  1682. for I received from

  1683. the Lord what I

  1684. also delivered to

  1685. you.

  1686. The Lord Jesus on

  1687. the night which he

  1688. was betrayed took

  1689. bread.

  1690. And when he had

  1691. given thanks, he

  1692. broke it and said,

  1693. this is my body

  1694. which is for you.

  1695. Do this in

  1696. remembrance of me.

  1697. In the same way

  1698. also, he took the

  1699. cup after supper

  1700. saying, this cup is

  1701. the new covenant

  1702. in my blood.

  1703. Do this as often

  1704. as you drink it

  1705. in remembrance of me.

1706. For as often as you

  1707. eat this bread

  1708. and drink this cup,

  1709. you proclaim

  1710. the Lord's death

  1711. until

  1712. he comes.

  1713. in the moment

  1714. we're going to

  1715. give our thanks

  1716. in prayer

  1717. and then

  1718. express our thanks

  1719. in sharing

  1720. this gospel

  1721. sign

  1722. with one another.

  1723. The gospel

  1724. of John

  1725. has a Passover

  1726. near the beginning

  1727. and a Passover

  1728. right at the end.

  1729. The Passover

  1730. at the beginning

  1731. is marking

  1732. the beginning

  1733. of Jesus' ministry

  1734. and after his

  1735. first sign,

  1736. what does Jesus do?

  1737. He goes into

  1738. his father's house

  1739. and he is appalled.

  1740. They're making money

  1741. and they're making

  1742. a mockery

  1743. and he wants

  1744. to cleanse the house

  1745. not because he's angry

  1746. but because poor ones,

  1747. sinful ones

  1748. are not getting

  1749. near the gospel

  1750. through all the nonsense

  1751. and the politics

  1752. and the commerce

  1753. and he makes

  1754. a whip

  1755. and he chases

  1756. away

  1757. these fakes

  1758. and frauds

  1759. who only care

  1760. about power

  1761. and money.

  1762. And the scripture

  1763. was quoted,

  1764. zeal,

  1765. zeal

  1766. for your heart

  1767. has eaten

  1768. has eaten me up.

  1769. It's right

  1770. at the beginning

  1771. of the public ministry.

  1772. He's going to

  1773. purify

  1774. a temple

  1775. by exposing

  1776. lies

  1777. and showing

  1778. the glory

  1779. of God.

  1780. He's going to

  1781. build a temple,

  1782. unite a temple

  1783. and it will not

  1784. be a temple

  1785. with stone

  1786. and lime

  1787. with gold

  1788. and wools.

1789. It will be a temple

  1790. of his body.

  1791. Well, he did that

  1792. and his body

  1793. gathers

  1794. Lord's day

  1795. by Lord's day

  1796. to worship

  1797. and the head

  1798. of the body

  1799. is with the body

  1800. and he gave

  1801. his body

  1802. to nourish

  1803. you

  1804. his body.

  1805. So be encouraged.

  1806. Jesus

  1807. will build

  1808. and is building

  1809. his church

  1810. across the world

  1811. today.

  1812. It's a small part

  1813. of it

  1814. but his eye

  1815. is on it

  1816. and he loves it

  1817. and he will

  1818. never take his eye

  1819. off his people.

  1820. So lift up

  1821. your heart

  1822. in worship

  1823. and in

  1824. thanksgiving.

  1825. Gracious Lord,

  1826. we find

  1827. ourselves again

  1828. at a table

  1829. that we do not

  1830. deserve to be at

  1831. but our shame

  1832. and dishonor

  1833. was nailed

  1834. to the tree

  1835. and so

  1836. in Jesus' name

  1837. and for his sake

  1838. we draw near

  1839. and we ask

  1840. that today

  1841. again

  1842. the Lord

  1843. will build

  1844. his people up

  1845. and build

  1846. his house up

  1847. give us

  1848. a zeal

  1849. for Christ

  1850. and his work

  1851. may we learn

  1852. from his zeal

  1853. to pay a price

  1854. to be holy

1855. and to pay a price

  1856. to be bold

  1857. and to be witnesses

1858. and to pay a price

1859. to be on the side

  1860. of truth

  1861. may we not

  1862. draw back

  1863. in unbelief

  1864. but may we go

  1865. forward

  1866. in faith

  1867. and trust

  1868. to the one

  1869. whose side

  1870. was torn

  1871. so that blood

  1872. and water

  1873. flowed

  1874. Lord

  1875. Jesus Christ

  1876. head of this

  1877. table

  1878. feed us

  1879. we receive

  1880. this bread

  1881. symbol

  1882. and emblem

  1883. and signpost

  1884. of your body

  1885. we receive

  1886. this cup

  1887. sign of your blood

  1888. grant us

  1889. faith

  1890. and peace

  1891. as we eat

  1892. and drink

  1893. may we do

  1894. all this

  1895. to your glory

  1896. on the night

  1897. that our

  1898. saviour

  1899. was betrayed

  1900. he took bread

  1901. and having given

  1902. thanks

  1903. he broke it

  1904. saying

  1905. take eat

  1906. this is my

  1907. body

  1908. which is

  1909. broken

  1910. for you

  1911. do this

  1912. in remembrance

  1913. of me

  1914. our saviour

  1915. took the

  1916. cup

  1917. saying

  1918. this cup

  1919. is the

  1920. new covenant

  1921. the new

  1922. testament

  1923. in my

  1924. blood

  1925. drink you

  1926. all of it

  1927. when you

  1928. eat this

  1929. bread

  1930. and drink

  1931. this cup

  1932. you proclaim

  1933. the lord's

  1934. death

  1935. until he

  1936. comes

  1937. the bread

  1938. of his

  1939. presence

  1940. the bread

  1941. that speaks

  1942. of his body

  1943. the cup

  1944. of his blood

  1945. his covenant

  1946. his love

  1947. eat and drink

  1948. the gifts

  1949. of God

  1950. to the glory

  1951. of God

  1952. it's lovely

  1953. to see you

  1954. and to be

  1955. with you

  1956. and to share

  1957. and worship

  1958. with you

  1959. and there is

  1960. a connection

  1961. that we have

  1962. with one

  1963. another

  1964. and with

  1965. our lord

  1966. when we are

  1967. able to

  1968. break

  1969. the bread

  1970. and share

  1971. the cup

  1972. with one

  1973. another

  1974. that is

  1975. a wonderful

  1976. signpost

  1977. of the

  1978. future

  1979. of a world

  1980. that we have

  1981. not yet

  1982. seen

  1983. of a love

  1984. and of a

  1985. peace

  1986. that we

  1987. can hardly

  1988. imagine

  1989. today

  1990. is supposed

  1991. to strengthen

  1992. us on the way

  1993. when we

  1994. come to

  1995. the lord's

  1996. table

  1997. we come

  1998. to

  1999. experience

  2000. two postures

  2001. two ways

  2002. of being

  2003. one is

  2004. lowly

  2005. to humble

  2006. ourselves

  2007. but by

  2008. design

  2009. the other

  2010. posture

  2011. is not

  2012. lowly

  2013. but it

  2014. is to

  2015. be

  2016. lifted

  2017. up

  2018. for

  2019. he

  2020. went

  2021. down

  2022. for us

  2023. on the

  2024. cross

  2025. and he

  2026. has now

  2027. been lifted

  2028. up and

  2029. exalted

  2030. so when

  2031. we come

  2032. to the

  2033. table

  2034. by faith

  2035. we say

  2036. even with

  2037. some of

  2038. the old

  2039. church

  2040. fathers

  2041. from long

  2042. ago

  2043. that we

  2044. have to

  2045. repent

  2046. not only

  2047. of our

  2048. wickedness

  2049. but even

  2050. of our

  2051. righteousness

  2052. our good

  2053. things are

  2054. not as

  2055. good as

  2056. we imagine

  2057. we've got

  2058. to give it

  2059. all up and

  2060. say Jesus

  2061. you are the

  2062. one I

  2063. need

  2064. that's

  2065. going

  2066. down

  2067. and he

  2068. reaches out

  2069. his hand

  2070. and he

  2071. feeds us

  2072. and he

  2073. says let

  2074. me lift

  2075. you up

  2076. spend the

  2077. rest of

  2078. this day

  2079. as my

  2080. ambassador

  2081. spend the

  2082. rest of

  2083. this week

  2084. as my

  2085. ambassador

  2086. go from

  2087. this place

  2088. and say

  2089. my lord

  2090. was good

  2091. to me

  2092. my lord

  2093. gave his

  2094. side

  2095. to the

  2096. spear

  2097. for me

  2098. my lord

  2099. washed me

  2100. and I

  2101. am clean

  2102. rock of

  2103. ages

  2104. cleft

  2105. for me

  2106. let me

  2107. hide

  2108. myself

  2109. in thee

  2110. let the

  2111. water

  2112. and the

  2113. blood

  2114. from thy

  2115. riven

  2116. side

  2117. which

  2118. flowed

  2119. be of

  2120. sin

  2121. the

  2122. double

  2123. cure

  2124. save

  2125. me

  2126. from

  2127. its

  2128. guilt

  2129. and

  2130. power

  2131. lord

  2132. you

  2133. have

  2134. saved

  2135. us

  2136. and

  2137. you

  2138. have

  2139. cleansed

  2140. us

  2141. you

  2142. have

  2143. encouraged

  2144. us

  2145. to

  2146. come

  2147. by way

  2148. of

  2149. repentance

  2150. and

  2151. self

  2152. examination

  2153. to

  2154. a

  2155. lowly

  2156. place

  2157. now

  2158. lord

  2159. lift

  2160. us

  2161. up

  2162. in

  2163. fellowship

  2164. and

  2165. communion

  2166. with

  2167. the

  2168. one

  2169. whose

  2170. side

  2171. was

  2172. torn

  2173. and

  2174. riven

  2175. for

  2176. us

  2177. and

  2178. wash

  2179. us

  2180. and

  2181. cleanse

  2182. us

  2183. that

  2184. when

  2185. satan

  2186. comes

  2187. the

  2188. cross

  2189. will

  2190. be

  2191. our

  2192. defense

  2193. our

  2194. answer

  2195. to

  2196. his

  2197. lies

  2198. and

  2199. accusations

  2200. help

  2201. us

  2202. to

  2203. go

  2204. on

  2205. in

  2206. the

  2207. strength

  2208. of

  2209. God

  2210. and

  2211. to

  2212. proclaim

  2213. the

  2214. glory

  2215. of

  2216. God

  2217. keep

  2218. us

  2219. in

  2220. love

  2221. and

  2222. in

  2223. unity

  2224. and

  2225. keep

  2226. us

  2227. from

  2228. the

  2229. tempter

  2230. through

  2231. Jesus

  2232. Christ

  2233. our

  2234. Lord

  2235. Amen

  2236. Closing praise

  2237. is Psalm 72

  2238. in the

  2239. Scottish

  2240. Psalter

  2241. the

  2242. closing

  2243. verses

  2244. 17

  2245. to

  2246. 19

  2247. His

  2248. name

  2249. forever

  2250. shall

  2251. endure

  2252. last

  2253. like

  2254. the

  2255. sun

  2256. it

  2257. shall

  2258. shall we

  2259. stand

  2260. and sing

  2261. His

  2262. name

  2263. forever

  2264. forever

  2265. shall

  2266. endure

  2267. last

  2268. like

  2269. the

  2270. sun

  2271. it

  2272. shall

  2273. men

  2274. shall

  2275. be

  2276. blessed

  2277. in

  2278. heaven

  2279. and

  2280. blessed

  2281. all

  2282. nations

  2283. shall

  2284. shall

  2285. have

  2286. him

  2287. call

  2288. now

  2289. blessed

  2290. be

  2291. the

  2292. Lord

  2293. our

  2294. God

  2295. the

  2296. God

  2297. of

  2298. Israel

  2299. for

  2300. he

  2301. alone

  2302. God

  2303. th

  2304. wondrous

  2305. works

  2306. in glory

  2307. that

  2308. excel

  2309. and

  2310. blessed

  2311. be

  2312. his

  2313. glorious

  2314. name

  2315. to

  2316. all

  2317. eternity

  2318. the

  2319. whole

  2320. earth

  2321. let

  2322. his

  2323. glory

  2324. fill

  2325. amen

  2326. so

  2327. let

  2328. it

  2329. be

  2330. go

  2331. with the

  2332. peace

  2333. and grace

  2334. and strength

  2335. of God

  2336. to serve

  2337. the

  2338. Lord

  2339. may the

  2340. grace

  2341. of our

  2342. Lord

  2343. Jesus

  2344. Christ

  2345. the

  2346. love

  2347. of

  2348. God

  2349. the

  2350. Father

  2351. the

  2352. fellowship

  2353. of the

  2354. Holy

  2355. Spirit

  2356. the

  2357. Comforter

  2358. be with

  2359. you

  2360. with all

  2361. whom you

  2362. love

  2363. and with
