  2. Psalm 29, and we're singing verses 1 to 5.

  3. Psalm 29 from the Scottish Psalter, and we sing verses 1 to 5.

  4. Give ye unto the Lord, ye sons, that of the mighty be,

  5. all strength and glory to the Lord with cheerfulness give ye.

  6. And to the Lord the glory give that to his name is due,

  7. and in the beauty of holiness unto Jehovah bow.

  8. The Lord's voice on the waters is the God of majesty.

  9. Doth thunder, and on multitudes of waters sitteth he.

  10. A powerful voice it is that comes out from the Lord most high.

  11. The voice of that great Lord is full of glorious majesty.

  12. The voice of the Eternal doth asunder cedars tear.

  13. Ye God the Lord doth cedars break that Lebanon doth bear.

  14. Psalm 29, verses 1 to 5.

    Psalms 29:1–5

  15. Give ye unto the Lord, ye sons.

  16. Give ye unto the Lord, ye sons, that of the mighty be,

  17. All strength and glory to the Lord with cheerfulness give ye.

  18. All strength and glory to the Lord with cheerfulness give.

  19. All strength the Lord with glory give,

  20. That to his name is due.

  21. And in the beauty of holiness

  22. And to Jehovah

  23. The Lord's white song

  24. The water's is

  25. The God of majesty

  26. Doth thunder and

  27. On multitudes

  28. Of water's city

  29. A powerful voice

  30. It is that comes

  31. And from the Lord

  32. Most high

  33. The voice of that

  34. Great Lord is full

  35. Of glorious majesty

  36. The voice of the eternal God

  37. Asunder cedars' hair

  38. Yea God the Lord

  39. Does cedars' break

  40. That Lebanon

  41. Amen

  42. Amen

  43. Amen

  44. Amen

  45. Amen

  46. We're just going to bow in prayer

  47. I should have intimated that

  48. I'm sure you're all aware

  49. That there is

  50. The Holiday Twinnies

  51. There is a creche

  52. Upstairs in the hall

  53. And the Holiday Twinnies

  54. For children aged 3 to 7

  55. Is in the hall as well

  56. Next door

  57. Just bow in prayer

  58. For a moment

  59. Lord our God

  60. We give thanks for

  61. Another day

  62. Where we can worship you

  63. Although it is a wild day today

  64. We're conscious that

  65. You are the God

  66. That rules over the calm

  67. And over the storms

  68. And so we pray

  69. That we may rest in you

  70. And to trust in you

  71. With all our heart

  72. We pray Lord

  73. That you will bless us

  74. At this holiday time

  75. As people are away

  76. We pray your blessing on them

  77. When they're on holiday

  78. And we pray for those

  79. Who are here on holiday

  80. May be catching up

  81. With friends and family

  82. We give thanks Lord

  83. For these times

  84. And we know that

  85. You are the God

  86. Who wants us to

  87. Come apart

  88. And to rest a while

  89. And these times

  90. Are good for us

  91. And so we pray

  92. That you'll bless us

  93. Bless each and every

  94. One of us today

  95. But above all

  96. That we may

  97. Look to you

  98. Trust in you

  99. Believe in you

  100. And come to know you

  101. As Lord and Saviour

  102. Watch over us

  103. Then we pray

  104. And keep us

  105. Ever looking to yourself

  106. And forgive us

  107. Our sin

  108. In Jesus name

  109. We ask it

  110. Amen

  111. And just a

  112. We word to

  113. The young folk

  114. Just as you know

  115. The holidays are on

  116. Just now

  117. And I don't know

  118. Whether it was

  119. In all the schools

  120. But just before

  121. The holidays

  122. Joshua

  123. Got a report

  124. A report card

  125. Or a

  126. Report sheet

  127. As to how he was doing

  128. And it got me

  129. Thinking back

  130. Myself to these

  131. Awful times

  132. When you used to get

  133. A report card

  134. And I was

  135. I suppose

  136. The teachers

  137. You always feel that

  138. They have all the power

  139. And they tell

  140. Your parents

  141. How you're doing

  142. In your reading

  143. In your writing

  144. In your maths

  145. And you know

  146. When you get into secondary

  147. How you're doing

  148. Whether it's physics

  149. Or chemistry

  150. Or all the different subjects

  151. How you're doing

  152. And then at the end

  153. They kind of

  154. Tell what they think

  155. Of how you're doing

  156. Or what you should be doing

  157. And

  158. I remember one year

  159. I was about ten at the time

  160. And the report was not good

  161. And there was nothing about it

  162. That was good

  163. And I was wishing

  164. That someone would

  165. Pinch my school bag

  166. Because I didn't want

  167. To go home

  168. With a report

  169. Or that

  170. That I could some way

  171. Lose my bag

  172. In fact

  173. I actually remember

  174. On the way home

  175. Taking the report out

  176. And holding it

  177. Hoping the wind

  178. Would blow it away

  179. But it didn't

  180. And

  181. My parents

  182. Weren't best pleased

  183. Particularly my mum

  184. Was always

  185. Trying to push me

  186. And I was

  187. I actually

  188. Wasn't very good

  189. At that sort of thing

  190. It's funny

  191. I met

  192. Someone

  193. For a wee while

  194. Way back in the day

  195. I was teaching

  196. For a while

  197. And I met somebody

  198. Very well known

  199. In this town

  200. Who said to me

  201. Hey

  202. I've got a bone

  203. To pick with you

  204. He said

  205. I was clearing out stuff

  206. And I found

  207. An old report card

  208. You gave me

  209. And you put in it

  210. Could be doing much better

  211. But too interested

  212. In what other people

  213. Are doing

  214. And I

  215. Well

  216. I said

  217. It must have been through

  218. If I wrote that

  219. You can ask me afterwards

  220. Who it is

  221. I don't want to say

  222. Just now

  223. But the thing is

  224. We could all

  225. Make out reports

  226. I would hate

  227. If you were to make

  228. A report

  229. On my sermon today

  230. If you started

  231. Making a report

  232. About your mums

  233. Your dads

  234. Your brothers

  235. Your sisters

  236. How would you do

  237. A report about yourself

  238. But you know

  239. In a sense

  240. God

  241. Is doing a report

  242. On us as well

  243. Because he's taking

  244. Note of everything

  245. Not only that we do

  246. And everything we say

  247. But even everything

  248. That we think

  249. And you know

  250. You say to yourself

  251. Oh my word

  252. Because the bible

  253. Tells us

  254. That there's going to

  255. Come a day

  256. When we

  257. When we've all

  258. Got to go

  259. Before the lord

  260. And we're told

  261. We have to give

  262. An account

  263. To explain

  264. What we've done

  265. In this world

  266. Whether good or bad

  267. And that's why

  268. Jesus has come

  269. He's come into the world

  270. To make our report

  271. Good

  272. Because do you know

  273. What he does

  274. When we

  275. Trust Jesus

  276. Believe in him

  277. Love him

  278. Obey him

  279. Follow him

  280. He wipes away

  281. Everything bad

  282. From our report

  283. And he stands

  284. In our place

  285. And it's the most

  286. Wonderful thing

  287. And that's why

  288. It's so important

  289. That we ask Jesus

  290. To come into our heart

  291. And into our life

  292. And I know some of you

  293. Have done that

  294. I would pray that

  295. All of you

  296. Do that

  297. So that you will know

  298. The wonderful cleaning

  299. Of what Jesus

  300. Does for us

  301. We're going to say

  302. The lord's prayer

  303. Our father

  304. Which art in heaven

  305. Hallowed be thy name

  306. Thy kingdom come

  307. Thy will be done

  308. On earth

  309. As it is in heaven

  310. Give us this day

  311. Our daily bread

  312. And forgive us

  313. Our debts

  314. As we forgive

  315. Our debtors

  316. And lead us

  317. Not into temptation

  318. But deliver us

  319. From evil

  320. For thine is the kingdom

  321. The power

  322. And the glory

  323. Forever

  324. Amen

  325. We're going to sing

  326. Again now

  327. From the second psalm

  328. Psalm number two

  329. And this is in

  330. Sing Psalms

  331. Verses six to the end

  332. Psalm two

  333. From verse six

  334. To the end

  335. The lord has made it

  336. Known to them

  337. My chosen king

  338. I have installed

  339. On Zion

  340. My own holy hill

  341. He is the one

  342. Whom I have called

  343. The king then

  344. Solemnly declares

  345. I will proclaim

  346. The lord's decree

  347. Today your father

  348. I become

  349. You are my son

  350. He said to me

  351. Ask me

  352. And for your heritage

  353. I'll give you nations

  354. Near and far

  355. You'll break them

  356. With an iron rod

  357. And smash them

  358. Like a potter's jar

  359. Now therefore

  360. Kings

  361. Through wisdom find

  362. You judges of the earth

  363. Give ear

  364. With reverence

  365. Come and serve the lord

  366. Bow down with joy

  367. And trembling fear

  368. Pay homage

  369. To the royal son

  370. Lest you in wrath

  371. A side are thrust

  372. For swiftly can his anger blaze

  373. Blessed are all

  374. Who in him trust

  375. Psalm two

  376. From six to the end

  377. And sing psalms

  378. The lord has made it

  379. Known to them

  380. The lord has made it

  381. Known to them

  382. My chosen king

  383. I have installed

  384. On Zion

  385. My own holy hill

  386. He is the one

  387. Whom I have called

  388. The king then solemnly declares

  389. I will proclaim

  390. The lord's decree

  391. Today your father

  392. I've become

  393. You are my son

  394. He said to me

  395. Ask me

  396. Ask me

  397. And for your heritage

  398. I'll give you nations

  399. Near and far

  400. You'll break them with an iron rod

  401. And smash them like

  402. A potter's jar

  403. Now therefore

  404. Kings

  405. True wisdom

  406. Find

  407. You judges

  408. Of the earth

  409. Give ear

  410. With reverence

  411. With reverence

  412. Come and serve the lord

  413. Bow down with joy

  414. And trembling fear

  415. Pay homage to the royal son

  416. To the royal son

  417. Blessed you in wrath

  418. As I do

  419. For swiftly can his anger blaze

  420. Blessed are all

  421. Blessed are all

  422. Who in him trust

  423. Let us again bow in prayer

  424. Lord as we come before you

  425. The mighty and glorious God

  426. We pray that we will come with a sense of

  427. Through reverence and godly fear

  428. We are in the presence of the almighty

  429. The creator of heaven and earth

  430. The one with whom we have to do

  431. The one that one day we all have to give an account of

  432. What we have done here whether good or bad

  433. We pray that you will help us as we worship you today

  434. We pray that you will help us in all that we are about throughout the week

  435. We give thanks that we are able to depend upon you

  436. And we pray for a growing sense of trust in you

  437. Because so often we do lean on our own understanding

  438. Rather than trusting you

  439. So we pray that you will grant us the faith every day to live by faith

  440. So often we are wrapped up in ourselves

  441. And we forget that so often there is a bigger picture

  442. Help us Lord to have visionary eyes

  443. That may see beyond ourselves

  444. And to understand so often Lord

  445. That when you work

  446. You work often through us

  447. In ways that we don't understand

  448. So grant us patience in the face of your providence

  449. And grant us faith as we journey

  450. At every step

  451. We pray Lord that you will bless us all here today

  452. With all our different needs

  453. We ask Lord that you will keep us safe

  454. And that you will bless us

  455. That you will bless us in our homes

  456. And bless us in our families

  457. Lord we pray for all those who are unwell

  458. Just now we are so conscious

  459. That there are so many who are in need

  460. And we ask your blessing upon them

  461. We pray for healing

  462. And we pray for help

  463. We pray for strength and for grace

  464. And we realise that when our world changes

  465. So often with illness

  466. That it has a huge impact upon everybody

  467. And so we ask that your grace will be sufficient

  468. We give thanks for the promise of sufficiency of grace

  469. And we pray that that might be laid upon

  470. And that your people will all be blessed

  471. We pray your blessing of those who mourn

  472. And whose hearts are heavy and sore

  473. And we are conscious Lord that death

  474. Death changes everything for our family

  475. And even although the days may have moved on

  476. In many ways

  477. Family does not move on

  478. There is a remaining settled sore

  479. And so we pray that you will

  480. Be with every broken heart today

  481. And everybody who is feeling the pain and the sorrow

  482. And the grief that comes

  483. Through the loss of loved ones

  484. Lord we pray for us

  485. In all the different situations we confront

  486. In every relationship that we are in

  487. Whether these are in family

  488. Or whether they are church relationships

  489. Or work relationships

  490. Or community relationships

  491. And whatever it is Lord

  492. We pray to help us

  493. And to bless us

  494. And to guide us

  495. And to uphold us

  496. Help us to be good witnesses

  497. In a world where

  498. We have always got to remember

  499. That we are as your word says

  500. Living epistles

  501. Read by people

  502. And we pray that

  503. Our witness might be a good one

  504. And forgive us Lord

  505. For when we let you down

  506. So often by what we say

  507. And what we do

  508. And we forget a watching world

  509. That are taking note

  510. And often assessing

  511. And making a judgement

  512. As to who Christ is

  513. By the way we live

  514. And so we pray that we might

  515. Live worthy of the high calling

  516. To which we have been called

  517. We pray that you will bless

  518. This congregation

  519. And we ask that you will be with

  520. James and with Donna

  521. We pray that everything will have gone well

  522. And that as she has returned home

  523. And that she will regain strength again

  524. We pray to be with her

  525. And we pray that Lord

  526. That you will be with James

  527. As he approaches the final time

  528. Of his ministry here

  529. And we realise what a huge loss

  530. It is going to be for us

  531. So we pray that you will sustain him

  532. And bless him

  533. And that he will know the power

  534. Of your spirit ministering in him

  535. In these days

  536. We pray for Calamurdo and Joan

  537. As they are awake just now

  538. And we ask your blessing upon them

  539. And we pray for everybody

  540. Who works here in this congregation

  541. So much is done

  542. So much is done

  543. Often that isn't

  544. Maybe recognised and realised

  545. By so many

  546. But there are so many things that are done

  547. But nothing is hidden from your eye

  548. And you take note of every single thing

  549. That is done in your name

  550. And we know Lord

  551. That each thing that is done by faith

  552. In your name will receive its own reward

  553. And so we pray to encourage your people

  554. And be with them

  555. In a day where there is so much to discourage us

  556. We live in a day where there is a growing oppression

  557. Towards the cause of Christ

  558. We pray Lord

  559. That you will overturn every attempt that is made

  560. With regard to the legislation for this conversion therapy

  561. And that people will be brought to realise

  562. That it's an encroachment really upon the freedoms of the Gospel

  563. O Lord our God

  564. We pray for liberty for our nation

  565. Gospel liberty

  566. Gospel freedoms

  567. Maybe we have taken all these blessings for granted for too long

  568. And we pray then that you will keep us

  569. Always having this freedom

  570. Gospel freedoms

  571. We pray then for our politicians

  572. Whether they are in Westminster or in Holyrood

  573. We ask Lord that you will guide them from on high

  574. Not according to their own earthly wisdom

  575. But that even despite themselves

  576. Despite maybe their ignorance of the truth

  577. Or their opposition to the truth

  578. That you will still influence them

  579. Because the King's heart is in the hand of the Lord

  580. And he is able to turn it whichever way he will

  581. We pray for our royal family

  582. And ask your blessing upon them at this time

  583. Where there is illness

  584. And we pray for healing

  585. We pray your blessing upon our local council

  586. Our council and our councillors

  587. We ask to bless them

  588. And we pray that you will be with all

  589. Who are places of responsibility in our land

  590. And grant them wisdom

  591. That we may indeed be able to enjoy

  592. Gospel freedoms and gospel blessings

  593. We pray your blessing upon Muriel

  594. And we give thanks Lord for her coming home

  595. And to grant her safety and health and strength

  596. We pray your blessing upon all who serve you

  597. In different countries

  598. And ask Lord that you will encourage them

  599. Maybe through difficult and dark times

  600. And pray that you will sustain them and keep them

  601. Particularly when the evil one might be attacking them

  602. And telling them that their labour is completely in vain

  603. May they be encouraged in knowing that no labour in the Lord is in vain

  604. We ask then that you will be with us as we wait upon you

  605. And pray that you will take away from us our every sin

  606. In Jesus name we ask it, Amen

  607. Amen

  608. We are going to read two sections of God's word

  609. Both in the book of the Acts of the Apostle

  610. Chapter 9 first of all

  611. And we read verses 1 to 15

  612. Acts 9 verses 1 to 15

    Acts 9:1–15

  613. And then in chapter 16

  614. But Paul still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord

  615. Went to the high priest

  616. And asked him for letters to the synagogues of Damascus

  617. So that if he found any belonging to the way

  618. Men or women

  619. He might bring them bound to Jerusalem

  620. Now as he went on his way

  621. He approached Damascus

  622. And suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him

  623. And falling to the ground

  624. He heard a voice saying to him

  625. Saul, Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?

  626. And he said, who are you Lord?

  627. And he said, I am Jesus whom you are persecuting

  628. But rise and enter the city

  629. And you will be told what you are to do

  630. The men who were travelling with him stood speechless

  631. Hearing the voice but seeing no one

  632. Saul rose from the ground

  633. And although his eyes were opened

  634. Although his eyes were opened

  635. He saw nothing

  636. So they led him by the hand

  637. And brought him into Damascus

  638. And for three days he was without sight

  639. And neither ate nor drank

  640. Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias

  641. The Lord said to him in a vision

  642. Ananias

  643. And he said, here I am Lord

  644. The Lord said to him

  645. Rise and go to the street called Straight

  646. And at the house of Judas

  647. Look for a man of Tarshish named Saul

  648. For behold he is praying

  649. And he has seen in a vision

  650. A man named Ananias

  651. Come in and lay his hand on him

  652. So that he might regain his sight

  653. But Ananias answered

  654. Lord I have heard from many about this man

  655. How much evil he has done

  656. To your saints of Jerusalem

  657. And here he has authority

  658. From the chief priests

  659. To bind all who call on your name

  660. But the Lord said to him

  661. Go for he is a chosen instrument of mine

  662. To carry my name

  663. Before the Gentiles and kings

  664. And the children of Israel

  665. Then we turn to chapter 16

  666. And we read from verse 13

  667. We find Paul and his missionary journeys here

  668. In verse 13

  669. Or we can read in verse 12

  670. And from there to Philippi

  671. Which is a leading city

  672. Of the district of Macedonia

  673. And a Roman colony

  674. Who remained in this city some days

  675. And on the Sabbath day

  676. We went outside the gate to the riverside

  677. Where we supposed

  678. There was a place of prayer

  679. And we sat down

  680. And spoke to the women

  681. Who had come together

  682. One who heard us

  683. Was a woman named Lydia

  684. From the city of Thyatira

  685. A seller of purple goods

  686. Who was a worshipper of God

  687. The Lord opened her heart

  688. To pay attention

  689. To what was said by Paul

  690. And after she was baptized

  691. And her household as well

  692. She urged us saying

  693. If you have judged me

  694. To be faithful to the Lord

  695. Come to my house

  696. And stay

  697. And she prevailed upon us

  698. As we were going to the place of prayer

  699. We were met by a slave girl

  700. Who had a spirit of divination

  701. And brought her owners much gain

  702. By fortune telling

  703. She followed Paul and us

  704. Crying out

  705. These men are servants of the Most High God

  706. Who proclaim to you the way of salvation

  707. And this she kept doing for many days

  708. Paul having become greatly annoyed

  709. Turned and said to the spirit

  710. I command you

  711. In the name of Jesus Christ

  712. To come out of her

  713. And it came out at that very hour

  714. And when her owners saw

  715. That their hope of gain was gone

  716. They seized Paul and Silas

  717. And dragged them into the market place

  718. Before the rulers

  719. And when they had brought him

  720. To the magistrates

  721. He said

  722. These men are Jews

  723. And they are disturbing our city

  724. They advocate customs

  725. That are not lawful

  726. For us as Romans

  727. To accept our practice

  728. The crowd joined in attacking them

  729. And the magistrates

  730. Tore the garments off them

  731. And gave orders to beat them with rods

  732. And when they had inflicted many blows upon them

  733. They threw them into prison

  734. Ordering the jailer to keep them safely

  735. Having received his order

  736. He put them into the inner prison

  737. And fastened their feet in the stocks

  738. About midnight

  739. Paul and Silas were praying

  740. And singing hymns to God

  741. And the prisoners were listening to them

  742. And suddenly there was a great earthquake

  743. So that the foundation of the prison

  744. Was shaken

  745. And immediately all the doors were opened

  746. And everyone's bonds were unfastened

  747. When the jailer woke

  748. And saw the prison doors were open

  749. He drew out a sword

  750. And was about to kill himself

  751. Supposing that the prisoners had escaped

  752. But Paul cried with a loud voice

  753. Do not harm yourself

  754. For we are all here

  755. And the jailer called for lights

  756. And rushed in

  757. And trembling with fear

  758. He fell down before Paul and Silas

  759. Then he brought them out and said

  760. Sir, what must I do to be saved?

  761. They said, believe in the Lord Jesus

  762. And you will be saved

  763. You and your household

  764. And they spoke the word of the Lord to him

  765. And all who were in the house

  766. Amen

  767. And may God bless to us

  768. These readings of his own holy word

  769. We are going to sing again now

  770. Sing Psalm

  771. Psalm 46a

  772. Psalm 46a

  773. Psalm 46a

  774. Page 59

  775. God is our refuge and our strength

  776. Our ever-present aid

  777. And therefore though the earth gives way

  778. We will not be afraid

  779. Though mountains fall into the sea

  780. The waters foam and roar

  781. We will not fear

  782. Though mountains quake

  783. As waves engulf the shore

  784. A river flows

  785. A river flows whose streams delight

  786. The city of our God

  787. The holy place in which the Lord

  788. Most High

  789. Has his abode

  790. To the end of verse 7

  791. Six stanzas of Psalm 46a

  792. God is our refuge and our strength

  793. God is our refuge and our strength

  794. Our ever-present aid

  795. God is our refuge and our strength

  796. Our ever-present aid

  797. And therefore though the earth gives way

  798. And therefore though the earth gives way, we will not be afraid.

  799. Though mountains fall into the sea, though waters fall and roar, we will not fear.

  800. Though mountains quake as waves in countless shores, a river flows to streams delight,

  801. the city of our God, the holy place in which the Lord most high has his abode.

  802. God is within this holy place, the city will not yield.

  803. For God will come at break of day to be her help and shield.

  804. The nations are in disarray, the kingdoms disappear.

  805. God speaks and at his mighty voice, the whole earth melts with fear.

  806. The Lord Almighty is with us to strengthen and sustain.

  807. For Jacob's God our strong defence and fortress will remain.

  808. Amen.

  809. Probably the greatest missionary that the church has ever known, who was once one of the worst persecutors.

  810. And then to look at the conversion of two of those who were by this converted missionary,

  811. had come to faith through his ministry.

  812. Now as we know, there were few religious people who hated the Lord Jesus Christ,

  813. quite like the Apostle Paul or Saul of Tarshish as he was then.

  814. And he was schooled in the ways of the Jewish religion.

  815. And he was a Pharisee of the Pharisees.

  816. He was somebody who understood the law at levels that few people could understand.

  817. He had been taught by the best.

  818. And he was somebody who prided himself in his knowledge of the truth.

  819. But it just shows how blinded people can actually be.

  820. And that's one of the things I would always, why it's so important that when we come to God's word,

  821. that we come with a prayer in our heart that the Lord will open our eyes to understand, to see.

  822. And that we be prepared to change preconceived ideas, pre-held ideas, to have them moved.

  823. Because sometimes we can have our own ideas and we're absolutely passionate and we hold to them.

  824. And sometimes they're not quite in keeping with God's word.

  825. So that every time we come to God's word, we have to say to the Lord,

  826. Lord, make me ready to be changed.

  827. To change my thinking if that's necessary.

  828. So that I will actually see and be, so that your word will have an impression and impact upon my heart and my life.

  829. Because you see, Saul was somebody who studied the word of God.

  830. But because he had pre-held ideas.

  831. Because the whole sort of the school of the Judean law, their understanding of who Christ was to be the Messiah when he came.

  832. Christ didn't fit their picture.

  833. And so this was a major problem.

  834. So we've always got to guard against that.

  835. Well, that was Paul's or Saul's great problem.

  836. Is that he had his own idea of who the Messiah was.

  837. Jesus didn't fit it.

  838. So in his eyes, Jesus was simply an imposter.

  839. And he couldn't believe that Jesus had the audacity to claim to come from God and to be God.

  840. Now it's more than likely that Saul actually would have seen Jesus.

  841. I'm sure he was still alive.

  842. He would, Saul would have been alive in the time of Christ.

  843. And it's quite possible that Saul actually heard Jesus.

  844. But he certainly was somebody who had been involved in the stoning of Stephen.

  845. They laid their coats.

  846. Those who were stoning had put them down.

  847. And Saul saw the face of Stephen shining.

  848. Where Stephen was given this glimpse into glory of.

  849. And seeing Jesus standing there.

  850. And his face was shining.

  851. That didn't stop them stoning.

  852. And Saul saw all that.

  853. And he gave total assent to the stoning of Stephen.

  854. And there seemed to have been a fire lit in Saul's heart.

  855. A fire of hatred against everybody who followed the Lord Jesus Christ.

  856. And he was going to do his utmost to wipe this way that they called it.

  857. Of the Christian faith.

  858. To remove it altogether.

  859. And so when you look at Saul of Tarshish.

  860. You see somebody and you'd say.

  861. That's as hard a person.

  862. As ever will come.

  863. To faith in Jesus Christ.

  864. You would write Saul off.

  865. And say impossible.

  866. Well.

  867. We shouldn't write anybody off.

  868. Because God's grace can go anywhere apart from hell.

  869. God's grace is not in hell.

  870. God's grace is all over this world.

  871. There's this common grace.

  872. Which everybody receives.

  873. And we.

  874. There's so many of the benefits that we receive in life come to us.

  875. Of course.

  876. All that's good comes to us from God.

  877. But God's grace is full of surprises.

  878. And God works often in what we deem impossible.

  879. Nothing is impossible with God.

  880. And right throughout the history of the church down to this day.

  881. The Lord is saving and bringing in people.

  882. That we might have written off.

  883. That we would never believe could ever be Christians.

  884. So we should never ever put anybody outside in our own thinking.

  885. The grace of God.

  886. In fact it's incumbent upon us to be praying for people.

  887. To pray for.

  888. If you think of somebody and you say.

  889. Oh that person will never be a Christian.

  890. That's all the more reason.

  891. To start praying for them.

  892. That they might be awakened.

  893. And that they might hear the gospel.

  894. And that they might come to faith.

  895. Well anyway here's Saul.

  896. Man on a mission.

  897. And he has the full backing of all the religious leaders.

  898. As he's making his way down.

  899. To cause as much havoc as possible down.

  900. And he's heading to Damascus.

  901. And you know it's really sad when you see this.

  902. That these people the likes of Saul.

  903. Is actually thinking he's doing God a service.

  904. He's doing this as a religious man.

  905. Thinking that he's helping God.

  906. And right to this very day.

  907. There are many people being put to death.

  908. By religions.

  909. And they're doing it as a service to God.

  910. In their own thinking.

  911. And Jesus said that was going to happen.

  912. He said that Jesus warned.

  913. And he prophesied.

  914. That they're going to put you to death.

  915. And they think that they're doing God a service.

  916. When they put you to death.

  917. It's an extraordinary thought.

  918. Well here's Saul.

  919. And he's about 150 miles.

  920. Down from Jerusalem.

  921. And then all of a sudden.

  922. This incredible blinding light.

  923. As he describes later on.

  924. Brighter than the midday sun.

  925. And it shone down upon him.

  926. And it blinded him completely.

  927. And he couldn't see anything.

  928. And he fell to the ground.

  929. And you know it's interesting.

  930. That this is always the impact.

  931. The effect.

  932. Of the glory.

  933. Of the Lord.

  934. On anybody.

  935. When Jesus was here in this world.

  936. We know he was here in the human nature.

  937. And it was as all the glory that belonged to him.

  938. As the divine was eclipsed.

  939. And people just saw the man.

  940. But there were moments.

  941. When something of the glory.

  942. Would come through.

  943. Like at the transfiguration.

  944. When they came to arrest Jesus.

  945. Who are you seeking?

  946. Jesus of Nazareth.

  947. I.

  948. He says.

  949. I am.

  950. I am he.

  951. What happened?

  952. They all fell to the ground.

  953. They couldn't stand.

  954. Before the glory.

  955. That was revealed.

  956. Just for a moment.

  957. It was too great.

  958. Fell down.

  959. You see.

  960. Ezekiel.

  961. When he's given that vision.

  962. He falls to the ground.

  963. You see it at the time.

  964. Of the dedication.

  965. Of the temple.

  966. In the time of Solomon.

  967. They couldn't stand.

  968. In the presence.

  969. Of the glory of the Lord.

  970. You see John.

  971. In the book of Revelation.

  972. He falls as one dead.

  973. At the display.

  974. Of the glory of Jesus.

  975. This is the risen Jesus.

  976. And so.

  977. This is what happens to Saul.

  978. The Lord gives.

  979. A revelation of himself.

  980. To him.

  981. He falls down.

  982. Just.

  983. Just in a heap.

  984. And that's the glory.

  985. Before.

  986. Whom we have all to appear.

  987. It is before the risen Jesus.

  988. That is where the judgment seat.

  989. Will take place.

  990. Many people think of Jesus.

  991. Simply as the human Jesus.

  992. Well he still is the human Jesus.

  993. The human nature.

  994. He took.

  995. He has forever.

  996. He continues to have.

  997. But it is now.

  998. In all the glory.

  999. That he has sworn.

1000. And it is this glory.

  1001. That no human.

  1002. Can stand before.

  1003. And that's why.

  1004. We're told in Philippians.

  1005. That before him.

  1006. Every knee.

  1007. Will bow.

  1008. And every tongue.

  1009. Will confess.

  1010. That Jesus Christ.

  1011. Is Lord.

1012. To the glory of God.

  1013. The Father.

  1014. No atheists.

  1015. No agnostics.

  1016. No mockers.

  1017. No scoffers.

  1018. No.

  1019. No infidels.

  1020. No infidels.

  1021. On that day.

  1022. All with one accord.

  1023. Will acknowledge.

  1024. That Christ.

  1025. Is Lord.

  1026. It's a very very.

  1027. Very solemn thought.

  1028. Well we see here.

  1029. That.

  1030. Saul.

  1031. Is absolutely.

  1032. Overcome.

  1033. By the.

  1034. The presence.

  1035. And the power.

  1036. And then this voice.

  1037. Says.

  1038. Saul.

1039. Why are you persecuting me?

  1040. You see.

  1041. Every blow.

  1042. That is struck.

  1043. Against the follower.

  1044. Of Christ.

  1045. Is felt.

  1046. By.

  1047. By Jesus.

  1048. Because he's head.

  1049. Of the church.

  1050. You know.

  1051. When you get hit.

  1052. And you're.

  1053. In any way.

  1054. Yes.

1055. It is where you get hit.

  1056. That hurts the most.

  1057. But you feel.

  1058. Your whole.

  1059. Being feels it.

  1060. Well the Lord.

  1061. Is showing us here.

  1062. That.

  1063. Every blow.

  1064. That is hit.

  1065. Christian.

  1066. Is felt.

  1067. By him.

  1068. As well.

  1069. Now.

  1070. There are so.

  1071. Many things.

  1072. That we could say.

  1073. Here.

  1074. But.

  1075. Because we're going to.

  1076. Move on.

  1077. Very quickly.

  1078. But.

  1079. Just that we see.

  1080. Here.

  1081. As.

  1082. That.

  1083. Saul.

  1084. As he goes along.

  1085. As he goes along.

  1086. Two or three things.

  1087. That.

  1088. That has happened here.

  1089. Saul.

  1090. Tells us.

  1091. Later on.

  1092. That he was.

  1093. Apprehended.

  1094. By Christ.

  1095. Christ.

  1096. Christ.

1097. He was on his way.

  1098. To persecute Christians.

1099. And all of a sudden.

1100. The one who was on his way.

  1101. To arrest.

  1102. Christians.

  1103. Is arrested.

  1104. By Christ.

  1105. Christ.

  1106. Stops him.

  1107. In his tracks.

  1108. He's apprehended.

  1109. By Christ.

  1110. Wonder if.

  1111. Anybody here.

  1112. Can experience.

  1113. Know something.

  1114. Of that experience.

  1115. Maybe your conversion.

  1116. Is such.

  1117. That you know.

1118. Of how you were going.

  1119. In one direction.

1120. And then all of a sudden.

  1121. You were stopped.

  1122. You were stopped.

  1123. In your tracks.

  1124. And you knew.

  1125. That a power.

  1126. Greater than your own.

  1127. Was working in you.

1128. That was the beginning of it.

1129. Well that's how it was.

  1130. With.

  1131. With.

  1132. With Saul.

  1133. He was.

  1134. He was.

  1135. Arrest.

  1136. And then.

  1137. Side by side.

  1138. With that.

  1139. There was a.

  1140. There was this light.

  1141. This divine illumination.

  1142. This light shone.

  1143. Now immediately.

  1144. I don't believe.

  1145. That right away.

  1146. That there was a.

  1147. That immediately.

1148. Saul came to immediate faith.

  1149. In Jesus.

  1150. But he was completely.

  1151. Thrown.

1152. And the work had started.

  1153. This.

  1154. This light.

  1155. That blinded in.

  1156. On him.

  1157. It's extraordinary.

  1158. How here's Saul.

  1159. Who was thundering down.

  1160. Into Damascus.

  1161. With fire.

  1162. Breathing fire.

  1163. He's actually led.

  1164. Blind.

  1165. By other people.

  1166. Into Damascus.

1167. Just shows what God can do.

  1168. Just like that.

1169. But God is at work.

  1170. In Saul.

1171. And he tells us again.

  1172. Of this light.

1173. That there was this divine.

  1174. And.

  1175. In a way.

  1176. In a way.

  1177. And I'm sure.

  1178. I'm sure the Christians.

  1179. In Damascus.

1180. When they heard the news.

  1181. They're coming down.

  1182. To create havoc.

1183. To put us to death.

1184. To take us to prison.

1185. To take us to prison.

  1186. They'd be praying.

  1187. Chief.

  1188. Persecator Saul.

1189. How are we going to be saved from him?

1190. And if they had looked.

  1191. At Saul.

  1192. is divine illumination.

  1193. As he says elsewhere,

1194. God commanded light to shine out of darkness

1195. and he has shone light into our hearts.

1196. Just as at the very beginning when God said

1197. into the darkness, let there be light.

1198. So he continues to do so.

  1199. Let there be light.

1200. And we need that light.

1201. Because you know, when that light comes from the Lord,

1202. all of a sudden things begin to make sense.

1203. You might be sitting in church week in, week out.

1204. And it's alright you come and it's great you come.

1205. But there's a lot of things that just don't make sense.

  1206. And you're saying,

1207. I wish I could just get the hold of this properly.

1208. I'm figuring out quite a bit of it,

1209. but I feel a lot just drifting by.

1210. What you need is this light.

  1211. This illuminating light.

1212. where your mind is opened up.

1213. Where everything begins to make perfect sense.

  1214. And you say,

  1215. Lord, now I see.

  1216. Yes, it's so clear.

  1217. It's so obvious.

1218. Well, that's what happened with Saul.

1219. He had been in darkness.

1220. A darkness that was satanic,

1221. but a darkness of the blindness of his own heart.

  1222. A blindness,

1223. and I don't believe for one moment

1224. that Saul didn't have moments of doubt in his own mind.

1225. He had seen Stephen in his death.

1226. He had heard testimonies from other Christians.

  1227. He was fighting.

1228. He was an angry man.

  1229. Do you know,

1230. some of the most angry men

  1231. and angry women

1232. are because there's so much

1233. that they're battling with within themselves.

1234. Sometimes that anger spills out

  1235. because they're angry

1236. at what's going on within themselves.

1237. They want to believe one thing,

  1238. but there's something that's going against.

1239. Well, anyway, this light came in.

1240. And the other thing that Paul tells us

1241. that God's grace was in abundance.

  1242. That's another thing that's happened.

  1243. God's grace.

  1244. And God's grace enables a person.

1245. It's like the final part of the jigsaw.

1246. So the most important part

1247. is where the will is broken,

1248. where we hand over to the Lord.

  1249. That's the hardest part.

  1250. If you're today here

  1251. and you're not a Christian,

  1252. that's the hard part, isn't it?

  1253. Giving up.

1254. Because we want to be in control.

1255. We want to go where we want to go.

1256. We want to do what we want to do.

1257. We want to say what we want.

1258. We want to be masters.

  1259. There's a control freak.

  1260. You hear the word?

  1261. He's a control freak.

  1262. She's a control freak.

1263. We're all control freaks by nature.

1264. We want to be in charge of our lives.

1265. It's the hardest thing to give up.

  1266. But we have to.

1267. For Christ to be ruler and master.

  1268. And Paul discovered that.

1269. He had to let go.

  1270. He had to yield.

1271. And that's what God's grace enables us to do.

1272. To give up the last thing

1273. that we want to give up.

1274. And so we find this.

1275. That this is a changed man.

1276. And he's a man now on a different mission.

1277. He was on a man on a mission before.

1278. Going to have to race on

1279. because the time is going.

  1280. We're just skipping on.

1281. And then we find by God's grace

  1282. that Paul becomes,

  1283. names changed to Paul,

  1284. becomes his missionary.

1285. And a great New Testament missionary.

1286. He goes down into Philippi.

1287. And we find there in chapter 16

1288. that on the Sabbath day,

1289. they make their way to the riverside

1290. where there's a group of women praying.

1291. It would appear that in Philippi,

  1292. there weren't enough.

1293. Apparently, you had to have 10 men,

  1294. 10 Jews.

1295. You had to have a quorum of 10

  1296. to start a synagogue.

1297. Well, it would look like

  1298. there wasn't sufficient.

  1299. There weren't 10,

1300. sort of what you would say,

1301. religious Jews there to start on.

1302. So there was this meeting

  1303. by the riverside,

1304. a woman who had come together.

  1305. And Paul went there

1306. and he spoke to them

1307. and he shared the gospel.

1308. And amongst the women there,

1309. there was this lady, Lydia.

1310. And she was from this place,

  1311. Thyatira.

1312. And she was obviously doing very well.

  1313. Thyatira apparently was known

  1314. for its dyes,

  1315. for dyeing,

  1316. coloring different things.

1317. And she was a seller of purple,

1318. which was probably dyed in purple

1319. and probably doing very well.

  1320. And it would appear

1321. that she was a very sincere

  1322. and genuine woman,

  1323. a religious woman,

1324. a woman who seemed to have

  1325. kind of embraced

  1326. the Jewish faith

  1327. and was a sincere

1328. and genuine worshiper of God,

  1329. but didn't have Christ.

1330. It was all on an outward.

  1331. And you know,

1332. there's a lot of people like that.

  1333. There's a lot of religious people,

1334. even within the Christian church.

  1335. But everything is outward.

1336. And they believe in God

1337. and they come to worship God

1338. and their worship is sincere.

  1339. But you know,

  1340. it's not there.

  1341. It's not there yet.

  1342. It's not hard.

1343. They've got to get beyond.

1344. Well, that Lord's Day morning,

1345. that's what happened with Lydia.

1346. She was a good woman,

  1347. a sincere woman,

  1348. a genuine woman,

1349. a woman who worshipped God

  1350. and served God

  1351. in her own way,

1352. but her heart hadn't been changed.

1353. Her heart hadn't been touched.

  1354. But that morning,

1355. it tells us very simply,

1356. the Lord opened her heart

  1357. to pay attention

1358. to what was said by Paul.

  1359. How different.

  1360. No blinding light.

  1361. No voice from heaven.

1362. It couldn't have been more different.

  1363. She's just sitting there

  1364. and she's listening

  1365. and as Paul speaks,

1366. the Lord opens her heart

  1367. to receive the truth

  1368. and to accept Jesus.

  1369. You know,

1370. maybe that's how it is for you.

1371. Maybe as you look back

  1372. over your life,

  1373. you say,

  1374. I can't follow Paul.

  1375. No idea about that.

  1376. That's dramatic.

  1377. In fact,

1378. it's so low key in my life,

  1379. sometimes I don't,

  1380. I can't tell you.

1381. Can't tell you any day or hour

1382. or can't even tell you what month.

  1383. All I know is

  1384. I was once blind,

  1385. but I now see

1386. and I love the Lord.

  1387. There was a day

1388. my worship was purely outward.

  1389. Now it's inward.

  1390. It's in my heart.

  1391. And I really,

  1392. I really love

1393. coming to worship the Lord.

  1394. See,

  1395. that's a change

  1396. within.

  1397. And that's what happened

  1398. to Lydia.

1399. And we see the result

  1400. of that change

  1401. in her heart

  1402. because she opens up

  1403. her home to Paul

  1404. and she says,

  1405. come on,

  1406. come to my house.

  1407. And you know,

  1408. that's what happens

  1409. when the Lord works

  1410. in a person's heart.

1411. He opens more than the heart.

  1412. He opens them,

  1413. them out to serve,

  1414. to work,

  1415. to,

  1416. here I am Lord,

  1417. use me.

1418. Now we're just skipping through

1419. because the time is going.

  1420. And then we come

  1421. and again,

  1422. they're all familiar stories

  1423. but it's just showing

  1424. the difference

  1425. of how God works

  1426. with different people.

  1427. And we're familiar now

  1428. with the story here.

1429. Paul is still in Philippi

  1430. and every day

  1431. as Paul and Silas

  1432. are going about,

  1433. there's this young woman

  1434. who's a fortune teller

1435. and she's crying after them,

1436. these men are the servants

1437. of the Most High God.

  1438. And at the end,

1439. Paul gets fed up of her

  1440. and he commands

  1441. the evil spirit

1442. to come out of her.

1443. The evil spirit comes out.

  1444. But the problem

  1445. for the men

  1446. who owned this girl

  1447. or not who owned

  1448. or exploiting her

  1449. was that the money,

  1450. the social money,

1451. she was telling people's fortunes

  1452. for money

  1453. stopped.

  1454. Income was gone.

  1455. So they were incensed

  1456. and they dragged

  1457. Paul and Silas

  1458. to the rulers

  1459. and said,

  1460. look,

  1461. these men,

  1462. and they came in

  1463. using the racist stuff.

  1464. These men are Jews.

  1465. We're Romans.

  1466. And they've come in

  1467. and they've started

  1468. teaching us things

  1469. that are not lawful.

  1470. Now the thing is,

  1471. Paul and Silas

  1472. were actually Roman citizens

1473. and had all the protection

  1474. that that brought.

  1475. And they couldn't,

  1476. what happened to them

  1477. couldn't have happened,

  1478. wouldn't have been

  1479. allowed to happen

  1480. had the authorities known.

  1481. That's why the authorities

  1482. afterwards are petrified

  1483. when they discover

  1484. that Paul and Silas

  1485. are Roman citizens.

  1486. But anyway,

  1487. without any inquiries,

  1488. whatever,

  1489. they get them

  1490. and they give them

  1491. a horrendous flogging.

  1492. And they put them

  1493. to the prisoner

  1494. and said,

  1495. put these men

  1496. into the maximum

  1497. security wing

  1498. of the prison.

  1499. That's what he does

  1500. into the inner prison

  1501. and sticks their feet

  1502. into the stocks.

  1503. And you know,

  1504. it's wonderful

  1505. the attitude

  1506. of Paul and Silas.

  1507. when you put yourself

  1508. in their situation,

  1509. there you are

  1510. and your feet

  1511. clumped

  1512. in these awful things.

  1513. Your back

  1514. is pouring blood

  1515. where you've been

  1516. beaten horrendously

  1517. and your limbs

  1518. are sore,

  1519. everything is aching.

  1520. I'm sure

  1521. if it was me,

  1522. I'd be saying,

  1523. Lord,

  1524. what on earth?

  1525. Why,

  1526. Lord?

  1527. I'm only trying

  1528. to serve you.

  1529. I came here

  1530. because I believe

  1531. this is where

1532. you were pointing me to.

  1533. And that's exactly

  1534. where the Lord

  1535. was pointing him to,

  1536. pointing Paul to.

  1537. But you see,

  1538. we always only see

  1539. what's happening

  1540. to ourselves

1541. right in front of us.

  1542. We don't see

  1543. the big picture.

  1544. You see,

  1545. there was somebody

  1546. in that prison

  1547. that needed

  1548. to be converted.

  1549. And so Paul

  1550. and Silas

  1551. have to get into

  1552. that prison

  1553. to be used

  1554. by the Lord

  1555. for that conversion.

  1556. So we've always

  1557. got to remember

  1558. the picture

  1559. is always bigger

  1560. than ourselves.

  1561. And it's a lesson

1562. that we have to learn

  1563. over and over again.

  1564. So there,

  1565. in the prison,

  1566. we find that

  1567. Paul and Silas,

  1568. they're actually

  1569. praising God.

  1570. They're praying

  1571. and praising God.

  1572. And it tells us

  1573. that the prisoners

  1574. heard them.

  1575. What a testimony.

  1576. What a testimony.

  1577. And we read,

  1578. of course,

  1579. of how the earthquake

  1580. came,

  1581. of how the prison

  1582. doors were flung

  1583. open and everything.

  1584. And a prison

  1585. officer,

  1586. the jailer,

  1587. was going to kill

  1588. himself because

  1589. he knew the punishment.

  1590. If you were

  1591. a prison officer

  1592. and a prisoner

  1593. escaped,

1594. you were put to death.

  1595. That was the rules.

  1596. So he knew

  1597. prison doors opened,

  1598. they'll all be away,

  1599. I'm a dead man walking.

  1600. But there was

  1601. more than that.

  1602. The man was

  1603. utterly disturbed

  1604. because Paul

  1605. cried out

  1606. and he says,

  1607. don't do any

  1608. harm to yourself.

  1609. We're all here.

  1610. You know,

  1611. this shouldn't

  1612. happen.

  1613. And the man

  1614. all of a sudden,

  1615. you've got to remember

  1616. that this man here

1617. would be one of the

  1618. most brutal guys

  1619. that you could meet.

  1620. He'd be a hard man

  1621. with no feeling.

  1622. He was used to

  1623. every kind of

  1624. torture,

  1625. every kind of

  1626. pain.

  1627. He afflicted people

  1628. with no thought

  1629. or care.

1630. but all of a sudden

  1631. he's a trembling

  1632. wreck

  1633. because God

  1634. has come into

  1635. the picture.

  1636. And this man's

  1637. conscience

  1638. all of a sudden

  1639. is troubled.

  1640. You know,

  1641. God gave us

  1642. a conscience

  1643. and a sensitive

  1644. conscience

  1645. is a wonderful

  1646. thing.

  1647. Far too often

  1648. consciences,

  1649. our conscience

  1650. can become

  1651. deadened

  1652. so that

  1653. so many people

  1654. walking around

  1655. their conscience

  1656. is dead.

  1657. all of a sudden

  1658. this man's

  1659. conscience

  1660. is troubled.

1661. And all of a sudden

  1662. everything is thrown

  1663. upside down.

  1664. And he realizes

  1665. I'm in a terrible

  1666. situation.

  1667. Here's this man

  1668. who didn't fear

  1669. God or man.

  1670. All of a sudden

  1671. he fears God

  1672. in a way that

  1673. he didn't know

  1674. was possible.

  1675. And he cries out

  1676. what must I do

  1677. to be saved?

  1678. And we know

  1679. very simply

  1680. the answer.

  1681. Believe

  1682. in the Lord Jesus

1683. and you will be saved.

  1684. What does that mean?

  1685. It means

  1686. believe in your

  1687. believe in your

  1688. mind.

  1689. Believe everything

1690. that the word of God

  1691. tells you

  1692. about Jesus.

  1693. That's important.

  1694. You believe

  1695. everything

  1696. the word of God

  1697. tells you.

  1698. That's not enough.

  1699. It's important

1700. to have it in your

  1701. mind

  1702. but it needs

  1703. to go deeper.

  1704. You need

  1705. to believe

  1706. in your heart.

  1707. That's where

  1708. you need the Lord

1709. and you have to say

  1710. to the Lord

  1711. Lord help me

  1712. to believe.

  1713. I want to believe.

  1714. I believe

  1715. there might be

  1716. people here today

  1717. and that's exactly

  1718. where you are

  1719. and you say

  1720. I want to believe

  1721. but I'm stuck.

  1722. When you ask

  1723. the Lord

  1724. Lord

  1725. right now

  1726. open my heart

  1727. to believe

  1728. in you

  1729. and break

  1730. my will

  1731. in order

  1732. to receive you.

  1733. And you know

  1734. if you really

  1735. pray with

  1736. all your heart

  1737. that's what

  1738. you really want

  1739. the Lord

  1740. will answer

  1741. your prayer.

  1742. That's the kind

  1743. of prayer

  1744. he will answer.

  1745. And you ask

  1746. the Lord

  1747. that

  1748. he will come

  1749. in

  1750. and once

  1751. the Lord

  1752. comes in

  1753. he will do

  1754. you good.

  1755. And you might

  1756. be saying to

  1757. yourself

  1758. think of all

  1759. the things

  1760. I've done

  1761. in life

  1762. and the kind

  1763. of person

  1764. I am

  1765. and will

  1766. the Lord

  1767. take me?

  1768. Of course

  1769. he will.

  1770. We've just

  1771. looked at

  1772. three people

  1773. they couldn't

  1774. be more

  1775. different.

  1776. the ferocious

  1777. persecutor

  1778. the nice

  1779. religious

  1780. woman

  1781. and the

  1782. hard-hearted

  1783. jailer

  1784. all their

  1785. experiences

  1786. are different

  1787. but they all

  1788. found faith

  1789. they all came

  1790. to believe

  1791. in Jesus.

  1792. So what

  1793. about you?

  1794. Well today

  1795. is another

  1796. opportunity

  1797. for you

  1798. to believe.

  1799. Let's pray.

  1800. Lord we

  1801. we give

  1802. thanks for

  1803. how varied

  1804. the ways

  1805. of experiences

  1806. are in

  1807. people

  1808. and yet

  1809. at the end

  1810. of the day

  1811. there is

  1812. only one

  1813. way

  1814. where we

  1815. come to

  1816. believe

  1817. and to

  1818. accept

  1819. Jesus

  1820. as Lord

  1821. and Saviour.

  1822. And so we

  1823. pray Lord

  1824. that you

  1825. will open

  1826. any eyes

  1827. that so

  1828. far have

  1829. not seen

  1830. open any

  1831. ears that

  1832. so far

  1833. have not

  1834. heard

  1835. so that

  1836. they will

  1837. see

  1838. and hear

  1839. and believe.

  1840. We pray

  1841. that you

  1842. will bless

  1843. us.

  1844. Take us

  1845. home safely.

  1846. Watch over

  1847. us and keep

  1848. us and guide

  1849. us day by

  1850. day.

  1851. Forgive us

  1852. our every

  1853. sin in

  1854. Jesus name.

  1855. Amen.

  1856. We're going

  1857. to conclude

  1858. singings from

  1859. Psalm 146

  1860. in the

  1861. Scottish

  1862. Psalter

  1863. from

  1864. verse 7

  1865. to the

  1866. end.

  1867. Psalm 146

  1868. from

  1869. verse 7

  1870. to the

  1871. end.

  1872. Who

  1873. righteous

  1874. judgment

  1875. executes

  1876. for those

  1877. oppressed

  1878. that be?

  1879. Who to

  1880. the hungry

  1881. giveth

  1882. food?

  1883. God

  1884. sets the

  1885. prisoners

  1886. free.

  1887. The

  1888. Lord

  1889. hath

  1890. given

  1891. the

  1892. blind

  1893. their

  1894. sight,

  1895. the

  1896. bowed

  1897. down

  1898. doth

  1899. raise.

  1900. The

  1901. Lord

  1902. doth

  1903. dearly

  1904. love

  1905. all

  1906. those

  1907. that

  1908. walk

  1909. in

  1910. upright

  1911. ways.

  1912. The

  1913. stranger

  1914. shield,

  1915. the

  1916. widow's

  1917. stay,

  1918. the

  1919. orphan's

  1920. help

  1921. is he,

  1922. but yet

  1923. by him

  1924. the

  1925. wicked's

  1926. way turned

  1927. upside

  1928. down

  1929. shall

  1930. be.

  1931. The

  1932. Lord

  1933. shall

  1934. reign

  1935. forevermore.

  1936. Thy

  1937. God,

  1938. O

  1939. Zion,

  1940. he

  1941. reigns

  1942. to

  1943. all

  1944. generations.

  1945. Praise

  1946. to the

  1947. Lord

  1948. give

  1949. ye.

  1950. Psalm

  1951. 146

  1952. from

  1953. verse

  1954. 7

  1955. to

  1956. the

  1957. end.

  1958. Who

  1959. righteous

  1960. judgment

  1961. executes.

  1962. for

  1963. those

  1964. oppressed

  1965. that

  1966. be,

  1967. who

  1968. do

  1969. the

  1970. hungry

  1971. giveth

  1972. food,

  1973. God

  1974. sets

  1975. the

  1976. prisoners

  1977. free.

  1978. The

  1979. Lord

  1980. doth

  1981. give

  1982. the

  1983. blind

  1984. their

  1985. sight,

  1986. the

  1987. pardon

  1988. of

  1989. the

  1990. praise,

  1991. the

  1992. Lord

  1993. doth

  1994. dearly

  1995. love

  1996. all

  1997. those

  1998. that

  1999. walk

  2000. in

  2010. or

  2011. open

  2012. hell

  2013. is

  2014. he,

  2015. but

  2016. yet

  2017. by

  2018. him

  2019. the

  2020. way

  2021. is

  2022. way,

  2023. turned

  2024. up,

  2025. side

  2026. down

  2027. shall

  2028. be.

  2029. The

  2030. Lord

  2031. shall

  2032. reign

  2033. forever

  2034. more

  2035. like

  2036. God

  2037. who

  2038. died

  2039. on

  2040. thee.

  2041. Praise

  2042. to

  2043. all

  2044. generations,

  2045. praise

  2046. to the

  2047. Lord

  2048. to

  2049. the

  2050. Lord

  2051. give

  2052. peace.

2053. I'll go to this door on my right.

  2054. Now may the grace,

2055. mercy and peace of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit rest and abide upon each one of you now and forevermore. Amen.

  2056. Amen.
