  1. 2 Corinthians 3, verse 12. You'll find it around page 1162 if you're using the church Bibles.

    2 Corinthians 3:12

  2. !

  3. 2 Corinthians 3, verse 12.

    2 Corinthians 3:12

  4. We are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end.

  5. But their minds were hardened, for to this day when they read the old covenant that that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away.

  6. Yes, to this day when ever Moses is read, a veil lies over their hearts.

  7. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed.

  8. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

  9. And we all with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image,

  10. from one degree of glory to another.

  11. For this comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  12. Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart, but we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways.

  13. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God's word.

  14. But by the open statement of the truth, we would commend ourselves to everyone's conscience in the sight of God.

  15. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled only to those who are perishing.

  16. In their case, the God of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ,

  17. who is the image of God.

  18. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.

  19. For God, who said, let light shine out of darkness, has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

  20. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

  21. And so on.

  22. May God bless that reading from his word.

  23. Let's again just engage in a word of prayer.

  24. Let us pray.

  25. Our gracious Father in heaven, we do thank you for your word.

  26. And we thank you for the wonder of it, that you are a God who speaks to us through it,

  27. and that we see the amazing power of your word in it.

  28. For it is a word that is able to bring light to us of the knowledge of the wonder of the glory of God in the person of Jesus Christ.

  29. And we pray today, Lord, that we will have, as it were, that veil lifted from us today,

  30. so that we might see more of the beauty of Christ,

  31. and that that might reflect in us,

  32. that it might build us up in our faith and encourage us and strengthen us,

  33. and that we might go on from here, Lord, into this new year ahead,

  34. in whatever it entails that we would go on in that sure knowledge of the hope that there is in Christ.

  35. For we know that it's a hope that is unchanging.

  36. And although we so often say it, Lord, we know we do live in a world that is ever-changing,

  37. a world where we see so much around us that in the beginning of a new year,

  38. it leaves our hearts with that sense of pain and grief,

  39. when we hear of tragedies in so many different places around the world,

  40. and when we hear of grief in the midst of families near and far,

  41. when we see the anxieties that this world can bring to so many,

  42. and the troubles that are so many.

  43. And yet, O Lord, as your word says to us today,

  44. we thank you for this ministry of hope that we have,

  45. of the gospel and the riches of it,

  46. and how Paul, as he wrote to the church in Corinth,

  47. reminded the people there,

  48. and even ourselves today,

  49. that because of this gospel,

  50. we do not lose heart.

  51. And help us day by day, Lord,

  52. that we would not lose heart,

  53. that we would not lose faith in you.

  54. For we thank you that you are God of gods and Lord of lords,

  55. that you are above all,

  56. the maker and sustainer of all things.

  57. The universe around us,

  58. the heavens,

  59. the skies,

  60. the world in which we live in,

  61. they all declare to us the glory of God,

  62. and the power and majesty that is yours.

  63. And so we pray, Lord,

  64. that you will encourage us,

  65. that you would remind us today

  66. that we belong to a God who is great and awesome,

  67. and that as we put our trust in you,

  68. that we have that great hope,

  69. and that great assurance,

  70. that great comfort,

  71. that you are with us.

  72. And we thank you today, Lord,

  73. that your word reminds us

  74. that you are building your church,

  75. and that throughout the world,

  76. you have your people.

  77. Throughout the world, Lord,

  78. your kingdom is coming with power.

  79. And we know that you use so many different means

  80. to bring people to yourself.

  81. We know that you use your word above all.

  82. We know that you use your works of providence.

  83. We know that you use your spirit.

  84. We know that you have power in all of these things.

  85. And we pray, Lord,

  86. that around the world today,

  87. that people would hear and see and know of that power.

  88. Your word being proclaimed

  89. throughout all corners of the earth.

  90. We thank you for the promise

  91. that it will not return empty or void,

  92. but accomplish all that it is sent forth for.

  93. We do pray a blessing on your word

  94. to all ends of the earth,

  95. in our pulpits,

  96. around our islands,

  97. and our communities here,

  98. that your word will be powerful and effective,

  99. that throughout our land

  100. and throughout the world

  101. as the gospel is proclaimed,

  102. that people would have ears to hear

  103. and be stirred up in their hearts

  104. to receive it and to understand it.

  105. And we thank you too, Lord,

  106. that even in your works of providence,

  107. whether they are things that bring us great delight

  108. or that leave us with a sense of much sorrow and sadness,

  109. that still in these things, Lord,

  110. you are speaking,

  111. you are ministering to us,

  112. you are reminding us

  113. that our greatest need in this world

  114. is to know the eternal life on offer in Christ Jesus.

  115. And so we pray, Lord,

  116. that in all providence

  117. that you would minister to people near and far.

  118. And we pray for your spirit.

  119. We thank you for the Holy Spirit

  120. that is so able to apply these things to us.

  121. And we pray to know the power of the spirit in us

  122. and through us and with us today,

  123. that your spirit would minister to us all

  124. in our hearts,

  125. in our lives,

  126. in our homes,

  127. in our families,

  128. and in our communities at large.

  129. Oh, Lord,

  130. that we would know that you are with us.

  131. And we thank you that today

  132. we can pray for those in different circumstances,

  133. those in need,

  134. those who are mourning and grieving,

  135. those who are anxious over loved ones,

  136. those who are unwell,

  137. even seriously unwell for some.

  138. We thank you, Lord,

  139. that you are able to surround them,

  140. to comfort them,

  141. to uphold them,

  142. to strengthen,

  143. and even to speak to them

  144. in the midst of all of these things.

  145. We do pray comfort for them.

  146. We pray, Lord,

  147. for those who are going into a new year,

  148. making plans

  149. and looking forward to many different things.

  150. We all may have different plans

  151. that we are making,

  152. but, Lord,

  153. we do commit it all to you

  154. for ourselves as a people,

  155. as a congregation,

  156. as a denomination,

  157. oh, Lord,

  158. as we think of our congregations

  159. throughout our islands,

  160. and the number of vacancies at this time,

  161. and the need of ministers

  162. for the gospel here and far and wide.

  163. We do commit,

  164. oh, Lord,

  165. these needs to you,

  166. asking that you will provide

  167. in your way and in your time.

  168. And we pray, Lord,

  169. for our denomination,

  170. for the Free Church of Scotland

  171. as it ministers throughout this land

  172. and to other parts of the world as well.

  173. And members who go near and far,

  174. oh, Lord,

  175. spreading the good news of the gospel,

  176. we pray, Lord,

  177. blessing on us as a people.

  178. And upon the Church of Christ,

  179. we thank you for the foundation of it all,

  180. the cornerstone,

  181. who is Christ Jesus.

  182. And we pray, Lord,

  183. that all we do would be for his glory

  184. and for his sake.

  185. So hear our prayers.

  186. Continue with us now

  187. as we look to you

  188. and ask your blessing on us

  189. with the forgiveness of all our sin.

  190. We ask in Jesus' name.

  191. Amen.

  192. Before we come and look at this passage together,

  193. we'll sing again

  194. in Psalm 86

  195. in the Scottish Psalter.

  196. Psalm 86.

  197. We're going to sing at the beginning

  198. of the Psalm,

  199. verse 1 to verse 8.

  200. You'll find it on page 340

  201. of the Psalm books.

  202. Psalm 86 at verse 1.

  203. O Lord,

  204. do thou bow down thine ear

  205. and hear me graciously

  206. because I so afflicted am

  207. and am in poverty.

  208. Because I'm holy,

  209. let my soul by thee preserve it be.

  210. O thou my God,

  211. thy servant save

  212. that puts his trust in me.

  213. We'll sing from verse 1

  214. down to the verse marked 8

  215. to God's praise.

  216. The tune is ears now.

  217. Amen.

  218. O Lord,

  219. do thou

  220. bow down

  221. thine ear

  222. and hear me

  223. graciously

  224. singing,

  225. Let thy soul, thy gift, be severed thee.

  226. O love, my God, thy self-answer, thou putest trust in me.

  227. Then unto thee, my daily life, be merciful to me.

  228. Rejoice, my servant soul, for heart I lift my soul to thee.

  229. What thou art gracious, O Lord, and may ye true for him.

  230. And rich in mercy of that hope upon thee to believe.

  231. Dear Lord, my freedom to the voice of my request attain.

  232. Then God will spite and hold on thee, for thou wilt answer sin.

  233. Lord, heaven is done among the gods, and may with thee compare.

  234. And like the works which thou hast done, not any more is there.

  235. Amen.

  236. We can turn back to our reading in 2 Corinthians chapter 4.

    2 Corinthians 4 chapter mention

  237. We read again verse 1 and verse 6 here.

  238. Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart.

  239. And then down at verse 6.

  240. Paul here is writing to the church at Corinth with a sense of longing and belonging to them,

  241. having visited them in the past.

  242. Part of his missionary journeys was establishing churches.

  243. As you see, the letters being written to the church at Philippi, to Corinth, to Ephesus, to Galatia.

  244. There was churches being established in so many different parts.

  245. And Paul was reporting this back to Jerusalem, where he had come from,

  246. and reporting back to others there what was happening, what was taking place,

  247. how he had seen many coming to saving faith.

  248. And there was a real sense of encouragement that even in the midst of troubles and trials that they were facing as a people,

  249. that the gospel was taking root.

  250. And therefore, he says in verse 1 there of chapter 4,

  251. we do not lose heart.

  252. God is working.

  253. And the knowledge of the glory of Jesus Christ is being made known throughout so many different places.

  254. And he was writing back to these churches to encourage them to keep on,

  255. and to encourage them of a sense of a wider belonging, that they are not alone.

  256. And a new year, as we begin it, is always a time of reflection.

  257. We look ahead.

  258. We look ahead, maybe some of us, with a sense of excitement as to what might be in store in this year.

  259. But we may also look ahead with a sense of uncertainty,

  260. maybe a sense of anxiety as to what might be ahead of us in this new year.

  261. But when it comes to going on, to going forward into a new year,

  262. something that often helps us as a people is a sense of belonging.

  263. A sense of belonging.

  264. That we are not alone.

  265. That whatever we face up to, we are not alone.

  266. That we have others who encourage us along the way, individually and collectively.

  267. And so as we think of ourselves as a people, we shouldn't think of ourselves just as individuals,

  268. but as a collective body of God's people, as a church.

  269. That is what church is.

  270. It is about people together.

  271. The church at Corinth was a people who were gathered together there as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  272. Christ.

  273. If I was to ask you today, do you have a sense of belonging?

  274. Do you have a sense of belonging here?

  275. Or perhaps, if I was to ask you, what church do you belong to?

  276. Do you feel part of?

  277. Do you feel a sense of belonging to the congregation here, to Stornoway Free Church?

  278. I hope we all have that sense of being among people who are friendly, whether we're here every week,

  279. or whether we're just visiting, or here from time to time,

  280. that there is a sense of belonging, of being together here.

  281. But it's bigger than that, isn't it?

  282. It's not just a sense of belonging here by ourselves,

  283. but we belong to a wider body of people as well.

  284. We belong to the Free Church of Scotland.

  285. Our denomination, which is national and even international in different ways,

  286. is a sense of belonging there.

  287. Do we have it?

  288. Do we know it?

  289. Do we experience it?

  290. Well, it should be there for us,

  291. that we feel part of a wider body of believers,

  292. even other congregations throughout our islands here,

  293. throughout our nation here,

  294. that we have a sense of belonging to one another,

  295. of praying for one another,

  296. of remembering one another.

  297. But above all, we should have a sense of belonging in a much larger sense as well,

  298. a belonging in the sense of to the Church of Christ,

  299. that we are not just individuals,

  300. that we are not just a congregation,

  301. that we're not just a denomination.

  302. We are a body of believers that is worldwide,

  303. a body of believers that goes to all the ends of the earth

  304. and down through all the generations of time

  305. and going forward until the Lord's return,

  306. that the Church of Christ will be built,

  307. that he is building his church,

  308. that his kingdom is coming with power.

  309. So we are part of a bigger church.

  310. And because we are, we're accountable.

  311. We're accountable in many different ways as well,

  312. accountable in the sense of getting encouragement,

  313. not just accountable in the sense of what are you doing,

  314. but accountable in the sense of being encouraged.

  315. So that together we are accountable to one another,

  316. we encourage one another.

  317. And we're also accountable in the sense of a congregation

  318. belonging to a presbytery,

  319. the Western Isles Presbytery,

  320. which is the gathering of all the free churches in the Western Isles.

  321. There's a sense of accountability there

  322. and encouragement towards one another there.

  323. And there's accountability in the sense of belonging to the free church,

  324. where there's encouragements there

  325. that we can pray for the wider work of the denomination.

  326. And when we think of the denomination,

  327. we think of the vision that it has for our country

  328. and even for the world.

  329. It has a vision statement of the free church,

  330. a healthy gospel church for every community of Scotland.

  331. And as we begin a new year,

  332. we think of that being a prayer point for us,

  333. for ourselves to belong to a people far and wide,

  334. a healthy gospel church for every community in Scotland and beyond,

  335. as we think of our accountability and encouragement

  336. in being part of the church of Christ.

  337. Does it seem a realistic target that for 2025,

  338. to have a healthy gospel church in every community of Scotland?

  339. Well, I guess it depends on what we are looking at

  340. and who our focus is on.

  341. As Paul was writing to the church at Corinth,

  342. it was part of a wider body of people,

  343. a wider vision,

  344. that the glory of God would cover the world

  345. as the waters cover it,

  346. as the glory of God would be known

  347. as the waters cover the skies,

  348. that we would see the glory of God in our midst,

  349. that we would see the glory of God

  350. being spread far and wide.

  351. And one of the great ways of doing this

  352. is that sense of accountability

  353. and the sense of encouragement.

  354. Encouragement to one another

  355. and encouragement to others far and wide.

  356. And as Paul is writing here,

  357. it's that sense of encouragement

  358. in not losing heart.

  359. Do not lose heart

  360. because we have this wonderful light

  361. of the gospel in our midst.

  362. We've had missionary speakers coming to us

  363. from different parts of our own nation

  364. who go to different parts of the world

  365. and there's always a sense of encouragement

  366. and hearing from them.

  367. Not just when we hear

  368. that many people are being converted,

  369. many people are being saved,

  370. but also that when we hear

  371. when there are times of great challenges

  372. and great persecutions,

  373. that people are remaining faithful,

  374. that they are not shrinking away,

  375. but that the gospel that they have known

  376. is not being veiled,

  377. but that the glory of God

  378. in the face of Christ Jesus

  379. is being seen in these lands as well.

  380. And so there is a wonder in the gospel

  381. that it reaches out far and wide

  382. and that together we are part of this great body

  383. of getting encouragement from others

  384. and encouraging others as well.

  385. I know I mentioned before

  386. about the children going back to school

  387. and you'll be getting report cards

  388. at different stages along the way as well

  389. and it's always exciting,

  390. always good to get a good report card

  391. that says you're doing well.

  392. But it's not always the case.

  393. It certainly wasn't for me.

  394. There was always times

  395. when you could do better, shall we say.

  396. But sometimes you need that just sense

  397. of encouragement.

  398. It's not you're not doing well enough,

  399. you're getting kicked out of school.

  400. It's not, no, you work hard.

  401. You've got to improve in certain areas.

  402. There's encouragement and help to do better.

  403. That's the way a good teacher comes alongside

  404. and that's the way Paul,

  405. as a preacher of the gospel,

  406. comes alongside the churches he's writing to,

  407. a sense of encouragement.

  408. Imagine if we were to have a report

  409. from the Presbytery or the Mission Board

  410. as a congregation here,

  411. what kind of report would it be?

  412. They would maybe come and see what we're doing

  413. and would maybe be praised for many things.

  414. But I'm sure they would also identify weaknesses,

  415. areas where we could do better.

  416. But in it all,

  417. there would be a sense of encouragement,

  418. be encouraged in the gospel.

  419. And so as we go into 2025,

  420. we want to do so with that sense

  421. of being encouraged,

  422. that we belong to the great church of Christ,

  423. that we belong to each other in that sense

  424. where there's encouragements

  425. in the midst of everything that's going on.

  426. What you find with Paul is

  427. he's writing with this encouragement

  428. in the midst of different situations.

  429. And there's three things here

  430. that I want us to think of,

  431. things that we face ourselves

  432. and things that Paul was facing

  433. and the church of Corinth was facing too.

  434. And every church,

  435. every believer faces these things.

  436. As we go into a new year,

  437. we face dangers,

  438. just like Paul had dangers

  439. that were going on around him here.

  440. There's always things

  441. that are dangerous for us.

  442. There's also a sense of

  443. there are always discouragements around us.

  444. There are always things

  445. that will leave us a little sense

  446. of discouragement

  447. and anxiety and fears.

  448. They're always going to be there.

  449. But above all,

  450. as Paul is writing,

  451. he has these things in mind,

  452. but also he has in mind the delights.

  453. The delights that there are in the gospel.

  454. The joy that there is.

  455. The hope that there is.

  456. You find that as he's writing

  457. to all the different churches

  458. and as he's reporting back

  459. to his own mission board,

  460. if you like, in Jerusalem,

  461. where he had left to go on his mission journeys.

  462. He's reporting back,

  463. yes, there's dangers.

  464. Yes, there's discouragements.

  465. But there's delights.

  466. There are great things happening.

  467. And so we can go into 2025

  468. being aware of these things as well.

  469. And always just to look at these three things,

  470. the dangers,

  471. the discouragements,

  472. and the delights,

  473. and to see what we can take

  474. from each of these.

  475. Paul,

  476. as we see first of all,

  477. the dangers that were around him,

  478. he was accountable

  479. for his part of his ministry

  480. to report back to Jerusalem,

  481. to the believers there.

  482. There was a council there,

  483. a body of people

  484. who he would report back to.

  485. He wasn't just going out by himself.

  486. He wasn't doing things

  487. just in his own way.

  488. He was accountable to others

  489. in the sense of reporting back

  490. what had happened,

  491. but also in being encouraged

  492. by them as well.

  493. He was sent out

  494. in his missionary journey,

  495. so this encouragement behind him

  496. that there were people

  497. praying for him.

  498. And so as he's going about

  499. and seeing all these different churches,

  500. he's encouraged

  501. and he's challenged.

  502. And he also writes back to them.

  503. And that's where the letters come from.

  504. The letter to the Corinthians.

  505. He's writing back to them

  506. here in 2 Corinthians

  507. to encourage them

  508. and to help them along the way.

  509. Corinth was a major city

  510. to which the gospel came.

  511. It was a large city,

  512. a busy city

  513. with all kinds of trade

  514. passing through it.

  515. And all kinds of people

  516. were coming

  517. from all kinds of places.

  518. It was a diverse place.

  519. And therefore,

  520. it wasn't just a place

  521. of the Christian church.

  522. It was a place of

  523. all kinds of faiths

  524. and religions

  525. and even,

  526. some would say,

  527. no religion at all.

  528. So there was a mixture

  529. of people

  530. and a mixture

  531. of messages.

  532. And therefore,

  533. people believed

  534. in different things.

  535. And so there was dangers

  536. in that.

  537. There always is

  538. when there's a mixture

  539. in society.

  540. Because as G.K. Chesterton

  541. once put it,

  542. he said,

  543. when men choose

  544. not to believe in God,

  545. it's not that they don't

  546. therefore believe

  547. in nothing,

  548. but they can then

  549. become capable

  550. of believing

  551. in anything.

  552. and that's the danger

  553. when God

  554. is pushed out,

  555. when God

  556. is not thought of.

  557. And that's the danger

  558. that Paul found himself

  559. in here

  560. as he went into Corinth

  561. and as he was writing

  562. back to them.

  563. There was a danger

  564. that the people

  565. would be pulled away

  566. in a different direction.

  567. And it's a danger

  568. we face ourselves today.

  569. We know it only too well.

  570. Going into a new year,

  571. there's a danger

  572. of all kinds of people

  573. around us.

  574. All kinds of faiths

  575. in this world.

  576. All kinds of access

  577. to different ways

  578. of thinking

  579. and beliefs.

  580. It's a danger

  581. but it's also

  582. an opportunity.

  583. Because it's a great

  584. opportunity

  585. to present

  586. the gospel.

  587. John Knox,

  588. more than 500 years ago now,

  589. one of his prayers

  590. was this.

  591. He said,

  592. give me Scotland

  593. or I die.

  594. And it sounds

  595. maybe in some ways

  596. quite an arrogant

  597. prayer.

  598. But isn't it

  599. a brilliant vision

  600. to have

  601. Scotland

  602. as his prayer

  603. focus

  604. and the people

  605. belonging to it.

  606. That they would come

  607. to know salvation

  608. in Jesus Christ.

  609. It wasn't any

  610. small vision

  611. that he had

  612. but a great vision

  613. for the glory

  614. of God.

  615. He knew

  616. the dangers

  617. that there were

  618. at that time

  619. of people

  620. turning away

  621. from God

  622. but his passion

  623. was stirred up

  624. all the more.

  625. Give me Scotland

  626. or I die.

  627. There was this

  628. sense of

  629. we need

  630. the Lord

  631. and this urgency

  632. in it.

  633. And that's really

  634. what Paul has here.

  635. This great passion

  636. because he knows

  637. the dangers

  638. that are around

  639. and yet he knows

  640. the glory

  641. of God.

  642. The glory

  643. that is veiled

  644. to some.

  645. but the glory

  646. that is being revealed

  647. in the person

  648. of Jesus Christ.

  649. And he knows

  650. that this ministry

  651. is not just his

  652. but that God

  653. is behind it.

  654. In verse 1

  655. he says,

  656. therefore,

  657. having this ministry

  658. by the mercy

  659. of God

  660. we do not lose heart.

  661. By the mercy

  662. of God

  663. God is in it.

  664. And then in verse 5

  665. he says,

  666. for what we proclaim

  667. is not ourselves

  668. but Jesus Christ

  669. as Lord.

  670. So in the midst

  671. of all the dangers

  672. of different faiths

  673. and different religions

  674. around him

  675. what he is saying

  676. is that we have

  677. this wonder

  678. this wonder

  679. of the gospel

  680. the gospel

  681. of Jesus Christ.

  682. It's not about

  683. us

  684. but about him.

  685. And he also

  686. makes sure

  687. here of the danger

  688. of maybe

  689. watering down

  690. the gospel

  691. in any way.

  692. In verse 2

  693. he shows

  694. there's a danger

  695. here for us

  696. as well.

  697. But we have

  698. renounced

  699. disgraceful

  700. underhand ways.

  701. We refuse

  702. to practice

  703. cunning

  704. or tamper

  705. with God's

  706. word.

  707. We're not

  708. going to

  709. change this

  710. word to

  711. suit.

  712. We're not

  713. going to

  714. change this

  715. word to

  716. make it

  717. more palatable

  718. to anyone.

  719. We're going

  720. to present

  721. the truth

  722. of God

  723. because that

  724. is what

  725. saves.

  726. And so

  727. this temptation

  728. might be there

  729. to do things

  730. differently

  731. or to

  732. use

  733. underhand

  734. tactics

  735. as he

  736. calls it

  737. here.

  738. But no

  739. he says

  740. we will

  741. preach

  742. the gospel.

  743. We'll

  744. present the

  745. gospel in

  746. its fullness

  747. in its

  748. glory and

  749. its truth

  750. because it's

  751. not about

  752. us

  753. it's about

  754. the glory

  755. of God.

  756. And so

  757. he's reminding

  758. ourselves

  759. here too

  760. the word

  761. of God

  762. is central.

  763. The dangers

  764. of not

  765. knowing it

  766. or of

  767. pushing it

  768. away

  769. or of

  770. tampering

  771. with it

  772. it's

  773. always

  774. a

  775. danger

  776. but we

  777. don't

  778. lose

  779. heart

  780. because

  781. we

  782. have

  783. this

  784. ministry

  785. by the

  786. mercy

  787. of

  788. God

  789. we

  790. have

  791. the

  792. word

  793. of

  794. God.

  795. And so

  796. in the

  797. midst of

  798. the dangers

  799. that we

  800. are surrounded

  801. in

  802. one

  803. takeaway

  804. from

  805. this

  806. would

  807. be

  808. learn

  809. the

  810. word

  811. of

  812. God.

  813. Know

  814. the

  815. word

  816. of

  817. God.

  818. As we

  819. said

  820. earlier

  821. to the

  822. children

  823. when

  824. Peter

  825. writes

  826. he says

  827. always

  828. be

  829. prepared

  830. to

  831. have

  832. an

  833. answer

  834. for

  835. the

  836. reason

  837. of

  838. the

  839. hope

  840. that

  841. you

  842. have

  843. within.

  844. So we

  845. learn

  846. the

  847. word

  848. of

  849. God.

  850. That's

  851. the

  852. answer

  853. to the

  854. dangers

  855. that we

  856. see

  857. around

  858. us

  859. of

  860. tampering

  861. with

  862. God's

  863. word

  864. of

  865. watering

  866. it

  867. down

  868. in

  869. any

  870. way.

  871. Learn

  872. and

  873. remain

  874. faithful

  875. to

  876. the

  877. word

  878. of

  879. God.

  880. That

  881. is

  882. key.

  883. The

  884. second

  885. thing

  886. we

  887. see

  888. here

  889. there

  890. are

  891. dangers

  892. !

  893. discouragements.

  894. When you

  895. read the

  896. early part

  897. of the

  898. book of

  899. Acts

  900. it's

  901. always a

  902. great

  903. place

  904. to go

  905. back

  906. to.

  907. It's

  908. exciting

  909. there's

  910. so much

  911. happening.

  912. You

  913. see the

  914. spirit

  915. poured

  916. out.

  917. You

  918. see

  919. sermons

  920. that

  921. convert

  922. thousands.

  923. You

  924. see

  925. the

  926. glory

  927. of

  928. God

  929. working

  930. in

  931. powerful

  932. ways.

  933. But

  934. if you

  935. continue

  936. reading

  937. through

  938. the

  939. book

  940. of

  941. Acts

  942. it

  943. doesn't

  944. take

  945. long

  946. until

  947. you

  948. come

  949. upon

  950. the

  951. different

  952. challenges

  953. that

  954. there

  955. are

  956. as

  957. well

  958. and

  959. discouragements

  960. that

  961. soon

  962. arise.

  963. It

  964. doesn't

  965. take

  966. long

  967. to

  968. appear.

  969. And

  970. that's

  971. there

  972. for

  973. ourselves

  974. to

  975. know

  976. as

  977. well.

  978. As

  979. Paul

  980. is

  981. writing

  982. here

  983. he's

  984. showing

  985. something

  986. of his

  987. own

  988. vulnerability

  989. in this

  990. way

  991. as

  992. well.

  993. There

  994. are

  995. ups

  996. and

  997. downs

  998. in

  999. the

  1000. Christian

  1001. faith.

  1002. Even

  1003. in

  1004. his

  1005. own

  1006. ministry

  1007. work

  1008. he

  1009. comes

  1010. across

  1011. times

  1012. of

  1013. discouragement

  1014. Times

  1015. of

  1016. challenges.

  1017. And

  1018. we

  1019. are

  1020. learning

  1021. these

  1022. things

  1023. so we

  1024. know

  1025. ourselves

  1026. this is

  1027. the way

  1028. it's

  1029. going

  1030. to be.

  1031. Ministry

  1032. is

  1033. challenging

  1034. not just

  1035. for a

  1036. minister

  1037. but for

  1038. all of

  1039. us

  1040. together

  1041. when we

  1042. are the

  1043. church

  1044. of

  1045. Christ

  1046. there are

  1047. challenges

  1048. to our

  1049. faith

  1050. all the

  1051. time.

  1052. And

  1053. it's

  1054. good for

  1055. us to

  1056. hear

  1057. that

  1058. that

  1059. there

  1060. are

  1061. challenges

  1062. and

  1063. especially

  1064. when we

  1065. think of

  1066. Paul

  1067. writing to

  1068. the

  1069. church

  1070. at

  1071. Corinth

  1072. there

  1073. were

  1074. those

  1075. who

  1076. would

  1077. not

  1078. believe

  1079. there

  1080. were

  1081. those

  1082. whose

  1083. faith

  1084. was

  1085. veiled

  1086. as it

  1087. were

  1088. they

  1089. were

  1090. kept

  1091. from

  1092. seeing

  1093. the

  1094. glory

  1095. of

  1096. God.

  1097. And

  1098. so

  1099. for

  1100. ourselves

  1101. too

  1102. there

  1103. are

  1104. these

  1105. challenges.

  1106. We

  1107. don't

  1108. tamper

  1109. with

  1110. God's

  1111. word

  1112. but

  1113. just

  1114. because

  1115. there's

  1116. differences

  1117. around

  1118. us

  1119. doesn't

  1120. mean

  1121. that

  1122. we

  1123. back

  1124. off.

  1125. What

  1126. Paul

  1127. is

  1128. saying

  1129. here

  1130. is

  1131. we

  1132. keep

  1133. presenting

  1134. the

  1135. gospel

  1136. even

  1137. in

  1138. the

  1139. midst

  1140. of

  1141. discouragements

  1142. even

  1143. in

  1144. the

  1145. midst

  1146. of

  1147. people

  1148. who

  1149. are

  1150. not

  1151. believing

  1152. in

  1153. a

  1154. society

  1155. where

  1156. so

  1157. diverse

  1158. and

  1159. open

  1160. to

  1161. many

  1162. teachings

  1163. it's

  1164. so

  1165. important

  1166. that

  1167. the

  1168. gospel

  1169. is

  1170. at

  1171. the

  1172. heart

  1173. that

  1174. the

  1175. gospel

  1176. is

  1177. there

  1178. for

  1179. all

  1180. to

  1181. see

  1182. and

  1183. to

  1184. know

  1185. because

  1186. we

  1187. know

  1188. that

  1189. there

  1190. is

  1191. one

  1192. who

  1193. is

  1194. active

  1195. and

  1196. he

  1197. speaks

  1198. of

  1199. this

  1200. here

  1201. in

  1202. verse

  1203. three

  1204. and

  1205. four

  1206. even

  1207. is

  1208. veiled

  1209. it

  1210. is

  1211. veiled

  1212. only

  1213. to

  1214. those

  1215. who

  1216. are

  1217. perishing

  1218. in

  1219. their

  1220. case

  1221. the

  1222. god

  1223. of

  1224. this

  1225. world

  1226. has

  1227. blinded

  1228. the

  1229. minds

  1230. of

  1231. the

  1232. unbelievers

  1233. to

  1234. keep

  1235. them

  1236. from

  1237. seeing

  1238. the

  1239. light

  1240. of

  1241. the

  1242. gospel

  1243. of

  1244. the

  1245. glory

  1246. of

  1247. Christ

  1248. that

  1249. Satan

  1250. is

  1251. active

  1252. therefore

  1253. there is

  1254. all

  1255. the

  1256. greater

  1257. need

  1258. for

  1259. the

  1260. gospel

  1261. to

  1262. be

  1263. presented

  1264. and

  1265. presented

  1266. in

  1267. all

  1268. its

  1269. truth

  1270. even

  1271. in

  1272. the

  1273. midst

  1274. of

  1275. discouragements

  1276. even

  1277. in

  1278. the

  1286. Corinthians

  1287. in

  1288. chapter

  1289. 11

  1290. Paul

  1291. speaks

  1292. of

  1293. Satan

  1294. disguising

  1295. himself

  1296. as

  1297. an

  1298. angel

  1299. of

  1300. light

  1301. how

  1302. he's

  1303. able

  1304. to

  1305. twist

  1306. the

  1307. truth

  1308. and

  1309. to

  1310. make

  1311. what

  1312. is

  1313. good

  1314. seem

  1315. evil

  1316. and

  1317. what

  1318. is

  1319. evil

  1320. seem

  1321. good

  1322. like

  1323. we

  1324. see

  1325. in

  1326. our

  1327. own

  1328. day

  1329. and

  1330. age

  1331. again

  1332. and

  1333. again

  1334. discouragements

  1335. come

  1336. and there

  1337. are

  1338. discouragements

  1339. all

  1340. around

  1341. us

  1342. but that's

  1343. why we

  1344. need

  1345. the

  1346. gospel

  1347. all

  1348. the

  1349. more

  1350. to be

  1351. together

  1352. for

  1353. the

  1354. gospel

  1355. John

  1356. Knox

  1357. just

  1358. going

  1359. back

  1360. to him

  1361. for a

  1362. moment

  1363. one

  1364. of his

  1365. mottos

  1366. was

  1367. this

  1368. one

  1369. man

  1370. with

  1371. God

  1372. is

  1373. always

  1374. in

  1375. the

  1376. majority

  1377. isn't

  1378. that a

  1379. wonderful

  1380. way of

  1381. thinking

  1382. about it

  1383. one

  1384. man

  1385. with

  1386. God

  1387. is

  1388. always

  1389. in

  1390. the

  1391. majority

  1392. we

  1393. feel

  1394. we're

  1395. in

  1396. the

  1397. minority

  1398. we

  1399. feel

  1400. that

  1401. maybe

  1402. the

  1403. world

  1404. the

  1405. tide

  1406. has

  1407. turned

  1408. against

  1409. the

  1410. Christian

  1411. faith

  1412. but we

  1413. are in

  1414. the

  1415. majority

  1416. because

  1417. the

  1418. Lord

  1419. is

  1420. on

  1421. our

  1422. side

  1423. there

  1424. is

  1425. discouragements

  1426. but having

  1427. this ministry

  1428. by the

  1429. mercy of

  1430. God

  1431. we do

  1432. not

  1433. lose

  1434. heart

  1435. God

  1436. is

  1437. with

  1438. us

  1439. and

  1440. God

  1441. is

  1442. for

  1443. us

  1444. and

  1445. so

  1446. Paul

  1447. here

  1448. is

  1449. always

  1450. challenging

  1451. people

  1452. to be

  1453. a

  1454. people

  1455. who

  1456. know

  1457. the

  1458. word

  1459. of

  1460. God

  1461. and

  1462. who

  1463. are

  1464. thinking

  1465. about

  1466. the

  1467. word

  1468. of

  1469. God

  1470. and

  1471. who

  1472. are

  1473. learning

  1474. together

  1475. around

  1476. the

  1477. word

  1478. of

  1479. God

  1480. I

  1481. read

  1482. this

  1483. quote

  1484. just

  1485. last

  1486. week

  1487. and

  1488. said

  1489. we

  1490. are

  1491. drowning

  1492. in

  1493. information

  1494. but

  1495. we're

  1496. starving

  1497. for

  1498. wisdom

  1499. we

  1500. are

  1501. drowning

  1502. in

  1503. information

  1504. but

  1505. starving

  1506. for

  1507. wisdom

  1508. because

  1509. we

  1510. have

  1511. information

  1512. at

  1513. our

  1514. fingertips

  1515. and

  1516. plenty

  1517. of

  1518. it

  1519. we

  1520. just

  1521. have

  1522. to

  1523. look

  1524. up

  1525. a

  1526. word

  1527. online

  1528. and

  1529. we've

  1530. got

  1531. information

  1532. there

  1533. pouring

  1534. out

  1535. upon

  1536. us

  1537. you ask

  1538. a

  1539. question

  1540. there's

  1541. information

  1542. pouring

  1543. out

  1544. but

  1545. we

  1546. lack

  1547. wisdom

  1548. we

  1549. lack

  1550. wisdom

  1551. we're

  1552. a

  1553. generation

  1554. where

  1555. so

  1556. much

  1557. of

  1558. what

  1559. we

  1560. look

  1561. at

  1562. is

  1563. online

  1564. where

  1565. truth

  1566. is

  1567. seen

  1568. as

  1569. what

  1570. we

  1571. read

  1572. online

  1573. whether

  1574. it's

  1575. Facebook

  1576. or

  1577. Twitter

  1578. or

  1579. Instagram

  1580. or

  1581. the

  1582. news

  1583. that's

  1584. presented

  1585. online

  1586. we

  1587. think

  1588. there

  1589. is

  1590. truth

  1591. it

  1592. must

  1593. be

  1594. true

  1595. if

  1596. it's

  1597. online

  1598. information

  1599. is

  1600. there

  1601. but

  1602. the

  1603. wisdom

  1604. is

  1605. lacking

  1606. to

  1607. discern

  1608. what

  1609. truth

  1610. is

  1611. and

  1612. so

  1613. what

  1614. we

  1615. need

  1616. is

  1617. to

  1618. be

  1619. a

  1620. people

  1621. in

  1622. the

  1623. midst

  1624. of

  1625. discouragements

  1626. in

  1627. the

  1628. midst

  1629. of

  1630. all

  1631. kinds

  1632. of

  1633. challenges

  1634. that

  1635. we

  1636. see

  1637. it's

  1638. not

  1639. to

  1640. believe

  1641. everything

  1642. that

  1643. we

  1644. read

  1645. online

  1646. and

  1647. even

  1648. at

  1649. times

  1650. it's

  1651. to

  1652. back

  1653. off

  1654. from

  1655. engaging

  1656. with

  1657. some

  1658. of

  1659. these

  1660. debates

  1661. as

  1662. well

  1663. the

  1664. best

  1665. way

  1666. to

  1667. engage

  1668. on

  1669. these

  1670. things

  1671. is

  1672. to

  1673. be

  1674. face

  1675. to

  1676. face

  1677. and

  1678. that

  1679. begins

  1680. by

  1681. ourselves

  1682. meeting

  1683. together

  1684. by

  1685. being

  1686. together

  1687. here

  1688. as a

  1689. body

  1690. encouraging

  1691. one

  1692. another

  1693. learning

  1694. from

  1695. one

  1696. another

  1697. meeting

  1698. together

  1699. around

  1700. the

  1701. word

  1702. of

  1703. God

  1704. in

  1705. our

  1706. Bible

  1707. studies

  1708. in

  1709. our

  1710. prayer

  1711. meetings

  1712. individually

  1713. together

  1714. when we

  1715. come

  1716. just

  1717. two

  1718. or

  1719. three

  1720. of

  1721. us

  1722. together

  1723. that

  1724. we

  1725. are

  1726. meeting

  1727. together

  1728. in

  1729. that

  1730. way

  1731. of

  1732. being

  1733. face

  1734. to

  1735. face

  1736. and

  1737. the

  1738. more

  1739. we

  1740. learn

  1741. like

  1742. that

  1743. the

  1744. more

  1745. we

  1746. can

  1747. go

  1748. out

  1749. and

  1750. meet

  1751. others

  1752. face

  1753. to

  1754. face

  1755. as

  1756. well

  1757. and

  1758. to

  1759. talk

  1760. to

  1761. them

  1762. of

  1763. the

  1764. wonder

  1765. of

  1766. the

  1767. gospel

  1768. to

  1769. guard

  1770. the

  1771. gospel

  1772. not

  1773. by

  1774. going

  1775. back

  1776. in

  1777. our

  1778. shells

  1779. not

  1780. by

  1781. just

  1782. engaging

  1783. in

  1784. we

  1785. know

  1786. it

  1787. all

  1788. kind

  1789. of

  1790. attitude

  1791. but

  1792. in

  1793. a

  1794. gracious

  1795. way

  1796. of

  1797. being

  1798. there

  1799. for

  1800. people

  1801. coming

  1802. of

  1803. discouragement

  1804. and

  1805. what

  1806. can

  1807. we

  1808. take

  1809. away

  1810. from

  1811. that

  1812. we

  1813. do

  1814. not

  1815. lose

  1816. heart

  1817. and

  1818. so

  1819. let

  1820. us

  1821. meet

  1822. together

  1823. let

  1824. us

  1825. meet

  1826. together

  1827. as

  1828. a

  1829. people

  1830. together

  1831. around

  1832. the

  1833. word

  1834. of

  1835. God

  1836. but

  1837. then

  1838. as

  1839. we

  1840. go

  1841. from

  1842. here

  1843. we

  1844. go

  1845. to

  1846. meet

  1847. with

  1848. others

  1849. and

  1850. speak

  1851. with

  1852. others

  1853. and

  1854. share

  1855. with

  1856. others

  1857. in

  1858. a

  1859. gracious

  1860. way

  1861. presenting

  1862. the

  1863. gospel

  1864. to

  1865. them

  1866. the

  1867. third

  1868. thing

  1869. that

  1870. we

  1871. see

  1872. here

  1873. !

  1874. in

  1875. all

  1876. of

  1877. these

  1878. things

  1879. the

  1880. dangers

  1881. the

  1882. discouragements

  1883. behind it

  1884. all is

  1885. the

  1886. delights

  1887. the

  1888. delighting

  1889. in

  1890. God

  1891. the

  1892. delighting

  1893. in

  1894. the

  1895. power

  1896. of

  1897. the

  1934. of

  1935. Jesus

  1936. Christ

  1937. all

  1938. here

  1939. takes

  1940. us

  1941. back

  1942. to

  1943. the

  1990. that

  1991. brought

  1992. light

  1993. into

  1995. well

  1996. he

  1997. says

  1998. let

  1999. that

  2001. shine

  2002. let

  2003. that

  2004. light

  2030. we

  2032. this

  2033. gospel

  2034. this

  2035. treasure

  2036. in

  2037. jars

  2038. of

  2039. clay

  2040. as it

  2041. goes on

  2042. to say

  2043. in

  2044. verse

  2045. 7

  2046. to show

  2047. the

  2048. surpassing

  2049. power

  2050. belongs

  2051. to

  2052. God

  2053. and not

  2057. can

  2058. delight

  2059. in

  2060. God

  2061. God

  2065. God

  2066. is

  2067. powerful

  2068. glory

  2069. and

  2070. you

  2071. see

  2072. Paul

  2073. himself

  2074. here

  2075. is

  2077. who

  2078. has

  2090. of

  2091. this

  2092. word

  2093. of

  2094. this

  2095. glory

  2096. of

  2097. opening

  2098. his

  2099. eyes

  2100. to

  2101. see

  2102. Christ

  2103. Jesus

  2104. and

  2105. now

  2106. to

  2107. present

  2108. Christ

  2109. Jesus

  2110. in

  2111. all

  2112. his

  2113. glory

  2114. his

  2115. vision

  2116. has

  2117. been

  2118. transformed

  2119. and

  2120. just as

  2121. he

  2122. has

  2123. been

  2124. encouraged

  2125. he's

  2126. now

  2127. encouraging

  2128. others

2129. to come and know and see this beauty of Christ.

2130. Do we have this vision as we go on in this year?

2131. This vision of Jesus and this vision for Jesus

2132. to present him in all his glory.

2133. We have a great God.

2134. We are in the majority because God is with us.

2135. And Paul himself was encouraged by the Lord

2136. as he was going on in his missionary journeys.

2137. In Acts chapter 18, the Lord spoke to Paul one night

    Acts 18 chapter mention

2138. in a vision, it says, and it said,

2139. Do not be afraid, but go on speaking.

2140. Do not be silent, for I am with you,

2141. and no one will attack you to harm you,

2142. for I have many in this city who are my people.

2143. The Lord was building his church then,

2144. and he's still building his church today.

  2145. He has his people.

  2146. Do not be afraid.

  2147. Do not lose heart.

2148. The Lord is with us.

2149. And let us delight in the Lord.

2150. Let us rejoice in the glory of God

2151. in the face of Jesus Christ,

2152. who has shone in our hearts.

2153. And when he has shone in our hearts,

2154. we cannot but reflect that glory.

2155. If you look on the back of your bulletin sheet,

2156. you see the New Year's resolutions

2157. that Mordor Martin was speaking about.

  2158. Number four, it says,

2159. That our lamps shine more brightly.

2160. Isn't that a great way to go into the New Year?

2161. That our light, our lamps would shine more brightly.

2162. That the reflection of that would be

2163. the face of Jesus Christ in us,

2164. who has shone into our hearts.

  2165. Many years ago,

2166. there were men panning for gold

  2167. in America and Montana.

2168. And one of them found an unusual stone.

2169. And he broke it open.

  2170. And around him,

2171. there was a sense of joy

2172. as they saw this gold

  2173. glistening in this stone.

2174. And they started to work where they were there

2175. and discovered an abundance of gold

  2176. in the stones there.

2177. And there was a shout of delight.

2178. There was a shout of rejoicing.

2179. We found the treasure we'd been looking for.

2180. And they decided to keep it to themselves.

2181. But they had to go back

2182. into the town for stores

  2183. before they could continue

2184. just digging the gold out.

  2185. And so they went,

2186. these men went back to the town

2187. and they bought their stores.

2188. And as they were leaving,

  2189. all of a sudden,

2190. there was hundreds of people

  2191. coming behind them.

  2192. And they realized,

  2193. these people know.

  2194. And they thought someone

  2195. has told them something.

2196. And so one man turned to the crowd

  2197. and said,

2198. who said that we'd found gold?

  2199. And they said,

  2200. no one did.

2201. But your faces shone and showed it.

2202. The excitement they couldn't contain.

2203. The joy in what they found,

  2204. they couldn't hide it.

2205. It was there for all to see

2206. without a word being said.

2207. So wouldn't it be wonderful

  2208. ourselves to go

  2209. into this year

  2210. with our lamps

  2211. shining more brightly.

2212. With the beauty of Christ

  2213. in our hearts

  2214. being seen by others

2215. without a word being said.

2216. but just by the way

  2217. that we behave,

2218. the way that we act,

2219. the way that we speak,

  2220. that people would know

2221. that we have been with Jesus.

  2222. The church in Corinth

  2223. grew in the midst

2224. of all kinds of dangers

2225. and all kinds of discouragements.

  2226. Why?

  2227. Because the people

2228. were delighting in the Lord.

2229. There was a sense of delight

2230. and rejoicing in the Lord.

  2231. So let us

2232. know the word of God.

  2233. Let us meet together

2234. around the word of God.

  2235. And let us,

  2236. let Christ shine

  2237. through us

2238. the glory that is His.

2239. The one who has come

  2240. to save us

  2241. from our sins.

  2242. That we would have

  2243. a sense of belonging.

2244. Not just as a congregation

  2245. and a people here

  2246. where we encourage

  2247. one another.

  2248. But that we're encouraged

  2249. throughout our presbytery,

  2250. throughout our denomination,

  2251. throughout the world

2252. that the church of Christ

  2253. is being built

  2254. upon the foundation

  2255. of Christ Himself.

  2256. And His glory

  2257. is being seen

  2258. to all ends

  2259. of the earth.

  2260. And may that glory

  2261. be ours

  2262. within us

  2263. and coming through us

  2264. and being shared

  2265. with others.

  2266. The knowledge

2267. of the glory of God

  2268. in the face

  2269. of Jesus Christ.

  2270. may we be encouraged

  2271. to show it

  2272. and to share it

  2273. with others

  2274. and to live

2275. in the light of it

  2276. going on

  2277. in this year ahead,

  2278. whatever it entails.

  2279. There's always dangers.

  2280. There's always

  2281. discouragements.

  2282. But don't forget

  2283. that with God

  2284. on our side

2285. we are in a majority

  2286. and that we can

  2287. delight

  2288. in Him.

  2289. Let us pray.

  2290. Our Father in Heaven

  2291. we do rejoice

  2292. in the Gospel

  2293. and all the hope

  2294. that it gives.

  2295. We thank You

  2296. for the delight

  2297. that there is

  2298. in knowing Christ

2299. and in making Him known.

  2300. And we do pray,

  2301. Lord,

  2302. that the lamps

  2303. of our hearts

  2304. would shine

  2305. all the more brightly

  2306. that others would see

  2307. and know

  2308. the wonder

  2309. of the Saviour

  2310. we love and serve.

  2311. So hear our prayers

  2312. and continue with us,

  2313. Lord,

  2314. today

2315. and in all the days ahead

  2316. as we ask all

  2317. in Jesus' name

  2318. and for His sake.

  2319. Amen.

  2320. We're going to conclude

2321. by singing in Psalm 86 again,

  2322. the Scottish Psalter version.

  2323. The tune is Evan,

  2324. page 341.

2325. We'll sing the last three stanzas.

  2326. Verse 15,

2327. But thou art full of pity, Lord,

  2328. a God most gracious,

2329. longsuffering and in thy truth

  2330. and mercy plenteous.

  2331. We'll sing from verse 15

2332. down to the end of the psalm

  2333. to God's praise.

  2334. Amen.

2335. But thou art full of pity, Lord,

  2336. a God most gracious,

  2337. and mercy plentious.

2338. Longsuffering and in thy truth

  2339. and mercy plentious.

2340. O come to me, my condemnation,

2341. and mercy on thee, God.

  2342. I serve the strength,

2343. The Lord has strengthened and the Son of Thy own hand is saved.

2344. Go ye aside for good than me, which to thee it may see.

2345. And ye ashamed because the Lord is held and fought for thee.

2346. After the benediction, I'll go to the door to my left. We'll close with the benediction.

2347. Now may grace, mercy and peace from God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit rest upon and abide with you all now and forevermore. Amen.

  2348. Amen.
