  1. Well, good morning and thank you very much, Ian, for your warm welcome. It's good to be with you and I do bring greetings from the Black Isle from our congregation at Ferentos and Rizollas.

  2. We're going to read as our call to worship this morning the words of 1 Peter chapter 1. At verse 24, we read these words,

    1 Peter 1 chapter mention

  3. For all flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord remains forever.

  4. And this word is the good news that was preached to you.

  5. Well, of course, we associate the fellowship of the gospel with God's house, and we are going to commence our service by singing together from Psalm 122.

  6. It's the Sing Psalms rendering of Psalm 122.

  7. This is on page 169.

  8. To the Lord's house they were calling, and with joy I went with them.

  9. Now at last our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem, and so on.

  10. So let's stand, let's sing to the praise of God.

  11. Psalm 122.

  12. To the Lord's house they were calling, and with joy I went with them.

  13. Now at last our feet are standing in your gates, Jerusalem.

  14. See Jerusalem like a city, built compactly, close and strong.

  15. That is where the tribes assemble, tribes which to the Lord belong.

  16. To the Lord's name praise they offer, as for Israel the great.

  17. There are set of thrones for judgment, thrones of David's royal seed.

  18. Pray for Zion's peace and safety.

  19. May your friends securely dwell.

  20. Peace within your walls continue.

  21. Strength within your citadel.

  22. For the sake of friends and brothers, peace be in you I will sing.

  23. For the sake of her God's temple, I seek your prosperity.

  24. Well let's draw near to God in prayer.

  25. Let's pray.

  26. Amen.

  27. As your people rejoiced during the days of ancient Israel, it is truly a joy for us to be in the Lord's house on the Lord's day.

  28. And for this renewed opportunity to gather in gospel fellowship, we give thanks.

  29. We praise you for how your people gravitate towards the gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

  30. And we pray that on this Lord's day, the sound of the gospel would resonate far and wide.

  31. We pray that in our towns and villages and crofting townships alike, knees would bow and tongues would confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.

  32. And as we pray for our communities, so we pray for our cities, our countries and continents alike.

  33. And so we pray that the proclamation of the gospel would be heard across our world, indeed to the far ends of the earth.

  34. We praise you for your living and abiding and enduring word.

  35. And as we gather under its supreme authority, so we pray that we would read it and engage with it with heartfelt reverence.

  36. Still our hearts even now and enable us to worship you, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  37. May we do so in spirit and sincerity and in truth.

  38. May God the Holy Spirit hover over us.

  39. May God the Holy Spirit minister to us and enable us, we pray, to have as our great endeavor the glory and honor and praise of your name.

  40. and so we seek your blessing upon us we ask oh lord that you would forgive us for we confess

  41. our sins we pray for cleansing through the shed blood of jesus our sinless sin bearer

  42. and so we come in his name giving thanks that we have in this moment direct access to the very

  43. throne room of heaven through our mediator and advocate with the father we ask oh lord that you

  44. would grant us now grace and mercy and peace for all we ask is in jesus name and for his sake amen

  45. well it's wonderful to see so many boys and girls now we're going to think

  46. just for a few moments on the bible as a manual for life but before doing so we're going to read

  47. together from the bible from the new testament from second timothy chapter 3

    2 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  48. now the apostle paul writes to a very young timothy

  49. and as he writes to him he is urging timothy to read his bible

  50. now we're going to read from verse 14 in second timothy chapter 3 this is on page 1199 of the pages

    2 Timothy 3 chapter mention

  51. so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy so timothy

  52. but as for you continue in what you have learned and have firmly believed knowing from whom

  53. you learned it and how from childhood you have been acquainted with the sacred writings which are

  54. able to make you wise for salvation through faith in christ jesus all scripture is breathed out by god

  55. and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

  56. that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good work.

  57. The Bible, a manual for life. Now, there are manuals and there are manuals. I have here

  58. a screenshot of a manual that's probably more familiar to, shall we say, a more mature generation

  59. here today. Decades ago, almost every garage across Lewis would have had a copy of Haynes' manual.

  60. This one is for the Ford Escort, the Owner's Workshop Manual. These are now readily available

  61. on eBay and on other platforms, but much of these manuals are no longer available. You've got to

  62. go looking for them. But if you had a manual like this and you owned a car and you thought,

  63. I can strip it down, I can reassemble it, I can fix it, then you'd have turned the pages of Haynes'

  64. workshop manual. But the Bible is a manual for life. Now, this manual, it's been around for a long time.

  65. In fact, it was first published, Haynes' workshop manual, back in 1965. Now, that was a long time ago.

  66. But really, Paul is saying to young Timothy here that the Bible has been around much longer.

  67. Because when you start reading your Bible, you'll discover that many of the Bible stories,

  68. if you go way, way, way, way back to book number one of 66, then you're taken back thousands upon

  69. thousands of years. Now, unlike the Bible, Haynes' manual is not a one-size-fits-all. Great if you own a

  70. Ford Escort, but this particular manual is of no use to you if you own, for example, a Volkswagen

  71. Golf. Now, Haynes' manual is, well, mainly for cars. But the Bible is a manual for life.

  72. Haynes equips you to get to know your car better. But Paul is saying here that the Bible thoroughly

  73. equips us for getting to know the Lord Jesus Christ and walking with him every day. Sadly,

  74. John Harold Haynes, who first published this manual back in 65, well, he's no longer with us. He died

  75. in 2019 at the age of 80. But Jesus lives, and he ever lives. And when we turn the pages of the Bible,

  76. the Bible points us, doesn't it, to the Lord Jesus. Now, as I said at the beginning, many of Haynes'

  77. manuals are now history and of no use to anyone because, well, most of the cars we drive these days

  78. are a world removed from the Ford Escort of 1980 to 1982. But the Bible, as Paul tells us here,

  79. is God breathed. It is inspired. You can't say that about any other book you have in your library.

  80. And whenever we're talking about Haynes' manual, we're talking in the past tense. We're talking

  81. about stuff that was. But you see, the Bible is useful. Paul is speaking in the present tense.

  82. It's useful for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, and training in righteousness,

  83. training us how we can have a right relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

  84. And finally, Haynes' workshop manual, well, it made many of its readers in decades past into very,

  85. very good mechanics. But the Bible makes its reader into a man or a woman of God. So I want to encourage

  86. you today to read your Bible. There's nothing terribly scientific about that, but it is so,

  87. so important to read your Bible every day, to read it carefully, to read it prayerfully. And as you do so,

  88. ask the Lord to lead you and to guide you to Jesus, to get to know him and to walk with him

  89. every day in life. Because the Bible is a manual for all of life. Amen. We're going to pray together.

  90. We're going to pray the words of the Lord's Prayer. So let's do that as the Lord Jesus taught his

  91. disciples. So we pray with one voice. Let's do so in unison. Our Father who art in heaven,

  92. hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

  93. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass

  94. against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,

  95. the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen.

  96. Well, let's continue to sing to the praise of God. Psalm 19.

  97. And this is the Scottish Psalter version of Psalm 19.

  98. On page 223. And we're singing verses 7 to 11.

  99. A psalm which focuses on various aspects of the Bible. Verse 7, the Bible, God's law is perfect

  100. and converts the soul in sin that lies. God's testimony is most sure and makes the simple wise. So let's

  101. sing these verses to the praise of God.

  102. God's law is perfect and converts the soul in sin that lies. God's testimony is most sure and makes the simple wise.

  103. God's law is perfect and makes the simple wise. The statutes of the Lord are right and do rejoice the heart.

  104. God's law is perfect and does not do rejoice the Lord's command. The Lord's command is pure and does not do the eyes impart.

  105. God's law is perfect and does not do groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, but dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan, dethens the groan,

  106. They more than gold, yea, much fine gold to be desired are.

  107. Than honey, honey from the cold that drop the sweeter far.

  108. Moreover they thy servant warned, how he this life should frame.

  109. A great reward provided is for them that keep the same.

  110. Well we're going to read God's word together once again.

  111. This time from the Old Testament scriptures from the book of Numbers and chapter 10.

  112. On page 142, Numbers chapter 10 and we're going to take up our reading at verse 11.

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  113. Numbers 10, 11.

  114. In the second year, in the second month, on the twentieth day of the month, the cloud lifted from over the tabernacle of the testimony.

  115. And the people of Israel set out by stages from the wilderness of Sinai.

  116. And the cloud settled down in the wilderness of Peran.

  117. They set out for the first time at the command of the Lord by Moses.

  118. The standard of the camp of the people of Judah set out first by their companies.

  119. And over their company was Nation, the son of Amminadab.

  120. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Issachar was Nethanel, the son of Zuer.

  121. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Zebulun was Eliab, the son of Helan.

  122. And when the tabernacle was taken down, the sons of Gershon and the sons of Merari, who carried the tabernacle, set out.

  123. And the standard of the camp of Reuben set out by their companies.

  124. And over their company was Eliezer, the son of Shadur.

  125. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Simeon was Shalumiel, the son of Zerushaddai.

  126. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Gad was Eliaseth, the son of Jeul.

  127. Then the Kohathites set out carrying the holy things.

  128. And the tabernacle was set up before their arrival.

  129. And the standard of the camp of the people of Ephraim set out by their companies.

  130. And over their company was Eliashemah, the son of Ammihud.

  131. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Manasseh was Gamaliel, the son of Pedazur.

  132. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Benjamin was Abiodun, the son of Gideonai.

  133. Then the standard of the camp of the people of Dan, acting as the rear guard of all the camps set out by their companies.

  134. And over their company was Ahazer, the son of Amishadai.

  135. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Asher was Pediel, the son of Ochron.

  136. And over the company of the tribe of the people of Naphtali was Ehairad, the son of Enon.

  137. This was the order of march of the people of Israel by their companies when they set out.

  138. And Moses said to Hobab, the son of Reuel, the Midianite, Moses' father-in-law,

  139. We are setting out for the place of which the Lord said,

  140. I will give it to you.

  141. Come with us and we will do good to you.

  142. For the Lord has promised good to Israel.

  143. But he said to him, I will not go.

  144. I will depart to my own land and to my kindred.

  145. And he said, please do not leave us.

  146. For you know where we should camp in the wilderness and you will serve as eyes for us.

  147. And if you do go with us, whatever good the Lord will do to us the same will we do to you.

  148. So they set out from the mount of the Lord for three days journey.

  149. And the ark of the covenant of the Lord went before them for three days journey to seek out a resting place for them.

  150. And the cloud of the Lord was over them by day whenever they set out from the camp.

  151. And whenever the ark set out, Moses said, arise, O Lord, and let your enemies be scattered and let those who hate you flee before you.

  152. And when it rested, he said, return, O Lord, to the ten thousand thousands of Israel.

  153. Amen.

  154. Amen.

  155. And we trust we know God will add his blessing to the reading of his holy and inspired word.

  156. Let's continue to sing to the praise of God.

  157. Psalm 23 on page 28.

  158. It's the Sing Psalms version.

  159. The Lord is my shepherd.

  160. He's my shepherd.

  161. And this he has done his great name to display.

  162. Though I walk in death's valley where darkness is near.

  163. Because you are with me, no evil I'll fear.

  164. Your rod and your staff bring me comfort and cheer.

  165. In the sight of my enemies, a table you spread.

  166. The oil of rejoicing you poured on my head.

  167. My cup overflows and I'm graciously fed.

  168. So surely your covenant, mercy and grace will follow me closely in all of my ways.

  169. I will dwell in the house of the Lord all my days.

  170. Well, before we turn to God's word, let's once again bow our heads.

  171. Let's unite our hearts in prayer.

  172. Shepherd us now, we pray.

  173. Thank you, gracious God, gracious God, into the green pastures and still waters of holy scripture.

  174. Open the eyes of our understanding.

  175. Give us light.

  176. Give us gospel clarity as only you can.

  177. We pray that you would bind us together

  178. as one in Christ Jesus.

  179. Grant your blessing upon us

  180. for it is your blessing we long for,

  181. the blessing that makes one rich and adds no sorrow.

  182. We praise you for the indescribable gift

  183. of your Son, your one and only Son,

  184. your only begotten Son,

  185. the Son of your steadfast and unfailing love.

  186. How we praise you today anew

  187. for the one in whom we have redemption

  188. through his shed blood,

  189. the forgiveness of our sins,

  190. according to the riches of your grace,

  191. which you have lavished upon us

  192. via Calvary's cross.

  193. Remember us, we pray,

  194. as we bring our cares and our concerns

  195. before you at the throne of grace.

  196. You are the God of all grace,

  197. and for the sufficiency of your grace,

  198. we give thanks.

  199. We praise you that you are the God of all comfort,

  200. so may you bring comfort,

  201. consolation, encouragement,

  202. strength to all this day

  203. who may be in need

  204. of having a felt awareness

  205. of your presence,

  206. of your grace and mercy and peace anew.

  207. So draw near to us

  208. and grant us now, we pray,

  209. to wait upon the Lord.

  210. May we know

  211. the joy of the Lord as our strength,

  212. and may we look to you

  213. with our eyes fixed on Jesus,

  214. the pioneer and the perfecter of our faith.

  215. For we ask all things

  216. in his name and for his sake.

  217. Amen.

  218. Well, turn with me, if you will,

  219. to the book of Numbers,

  220. to the passage we read together

  221. from Numbers chapter 10.

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  222. Our text is verse 29,

  223. the words of Moses to Hobab.

  224. Come with us,

  225. and we will do good to you,

  226. for the Lord has promised good to Israel.

  227. A man named Hobab.

  228. Now, the Old Testament has,

  229. you might say,

  230. a register of peculiar names.

  231. And whilst some are,

  232. these days,

  233. very popular baby names,

  234. such as Adam and Caleb and Noah,

  235. Leah, Esther, Hannah, Rebecca,

  236. you are less likely to find the name

  237. of Hobab on a birth certificate.

  238. After all,

  239. he is mentioned ever so briefly

  240. on the pages of Scripture.

  241. Other than this reference,

  242. we have in Numbers chapter 10,

    Numbers 10:29

  243. verse 29,

  244. he is not referred to again

  245. across the landscape

  246. of the book of Numbers.

  247. There are two further indirect references

  248. to Hobab in the book of Judges,

  249. but that's it.

  250. So,

  251. why turn the spotlight

  252. this morning

  253. on someone

  254. who seems

  255. so insignificant

  256. and somewhat

  257. irrelevant?

  258. There are,

  259. after all,

  260. some 3,000

  261. names

  262. in the Bible

  263. to choose from.

  264. So,

  265. why

  266. Hobab?

  267. Well,

  268. because I would argue

  269. that there is much

  270. to glean

  271. from this Bible character.

  272. There is much

  273. for us to learn

  274. from Hobab

  275. here in Numbers chapter 10,

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  276. so much so

  277. that we're going

  278. to spend the day

  279. unpacking this passage

  280. before us.

  281. We are going to be

  282. a little forensic,

  283. more of a fine-tooth comb

  284. than a broad brush,

  285. as we explore

  286. verses 29 to 36

  287. of Numbers chapter 10.

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  288. But this morning,

  289. we're going to focus

  290. primarily

  291. on the words

  292. of verse 29,

  293. and we're going to do so

  294. under two headings,

  295. two A's.

  296. Hobab

  297. asked

  298. and Hobab

  299. assured.

  300. What has he asked?

  301. What are we to make

  302. of the invitation

  303. of Moses?

  304. Come with us

  305. and

  306. we will do

  307. good

  308. to you.

  309. We will treat

  310. you well.

  311. Well,

  312. that is the assurance

  313. that Hobab

  314. is given

  315. in its

  316. sum and substance.

  317. So,

  318. Hobab

  319. asked,

  320. now,

  321. Numbers chapter 10,

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  322. if we go back

  323. to verse 11

  324. where we began

  325. to read

  326. this narrative

  327. concerning Hobab,

  328. it marks

  329. a significant

  330. turning point

  331. for Israel.

  332. You might say

  333. a new beginning.

  334. Having pitched

  335. their tents

  336. for a whole year

  337. at Mount Sinai,

  338. it's now time

  339. to move on.

  340. Indeed,

  341. we read

  342. that they set

  343. out,

  344. verse 12,

  345. to begin

  346. the conquest

  347. of Canaan.

  348. So,

  349. picture the scene,

  350. if you will,

  351. at this key

  352. landmark.

  353. There they are,

  354. assembled,

  355. mobilized

  356. into orderly ranks

  357. with standards

  358. and banners

  359. lifted up.

  360. Destination

  361. Canaan,

  362. the promised land.

  363. Now,

  364. our interest

  365. this morning

  366. is in the

  367. personal dynamic

  368. to the narrative,

  369. particularly

  370. verse 29,

  371. because it

  372. revolves around

  373. this character

  374. by the name

  375. of Hobab,

  376. Moses'

  377. Midianite

  378. brother-in-law.

  379. Note that

  380. he is asked

  381. to join

  382. the people

  383. of Israel

  384. to sign up,

  385. to subscribe,

  386. to walk

  387. with Moses

  388. and the people

  389. of Israel,

  390. to accompany

  391. them through

  392. the wilderness,

  393. and to play

  394. a meaningful

  395. part as a,

  396. verse 31,

  397. service provider

  398. in assisting

  399. Israel

  400. in navigating

  401. their way

  402. to Canaan.

  403. So,

  404. why Hobab?

  405. What is it

  406. about Hobab?

  407. Why is Moses

  408. so compelled

  409. to speak to him

  410. and ask him

  411. to come

  412. with them?

  413. Well,

  414. Hobab

  415. is a

  416. knowledgeable,

  417. resourceful

  418. man who

  419. is more

  420. than familiar

  421. with the

  422. desert terrain.

  423. Hobab

  424. can provide

  425. much-needed

  426. guidance,

  427. direction,

  428. and practical

  429. advice

  430. for mapping

  431. out purposes

  432. and more

  433. besides.

  434. But if we

  435. just take

  436. the spotlight

  437. away from

  438. Hobab

  439. for a moment

  440. and turn

  441. the spotlight

  442. on Moses,

  443. then it

  444. tells us

  445. also,

  446. doesn't it,

  447. something

  448. interesting,

  449. something that

  450. perhaps warms

  451. our hearts

  452. about the

  453. great leader

  454. of Israel

  455. himself.

  456. does he

  457. really need

  458. Hobab?

  459. After all,

  460. he's an

  461. outstanding

  462. leader.

  463. He's well

  464. resourced.

  465. yes,

  466. but does

  467. Moses not

  468. recognize

  469. too that

  470. he is

  471. not

  472. indispensable?

  473. You'll

  474. recall how

  475. his father-in-law,

  476. Jethro,

  477. had reminded

  478. him back

  479. in Exodus

  480. 18 of

  481. his need

  482. to delegate

  483. responsibility

  484. onto

  485. others.

  486. wise

  487. counsel.

  488. Here we

  489. are in

  490. Numbers

    Numbers 10 chapter mention

  491. chapter 10.

  492. Moses,

  493. yes,

  494. he is

  495. assured

  496. of

  497. divine

  498. protection.

  499. But he

  500. also seems

  501. to be

  502. saying

  503. here that

  504. he also

  505. values

  506. human

  507. support

  508. and

  509. assistance.

  510. Yes,

  511. here is

  512. the

  513. illustrious

  514. Moses,

  515. the

  516. godly

  517. servant

  518. of

  519. God

  520. who

  521. knew

  522. God

  523. face

  524. to

  525. face.

  526. But he's

  527. also,

  528. in the

  529. words of

  530. the

  531. commentator

  532. Raymond

  533. Brown,

  534. a mere

  535. man,

  536. with all

  537. the natural

  538. hesitancy

  539. and fears

  540. that anyone

  541. would feel

  542. on the verge

  543. of such

  544. a massive

  545. enterprise.

  546. I want

  547. you to

  548. think of

  549. Hobab

  550. as the

  551. ultimate

  552. Sherpa.

  553. Hobab.

  554. So,

  555. if this

  556. was

  557. Everest

  558. terrain,

  559. then you

  560. would

  561. instinctively

  562. call

  563. someone

  564. like

  565. Hobab,

  566. someone

  567. well-informed

  568. and

  569. experienced.

  570. But I

  571. want us

  572. to stop

  573. there because

  574. he is

  575. not merely

  576. being called

  577. upon here

  578. as a

  579. facilitator,

  580. as a

  581. pilot,

  582. as a

  583. navigator,

  584. as a

  585. root

  586. finder,

  587. no,

  588. there is

  589. so much

  590. more

  591. to what

  592. is unfolding.

  593. There is

  594. always

  595. substance

  596. to

  597. Scripture

  598. and verse

  599. 29 of

  600. Numbers 10

  601. is no

  602. exception.

  603. Notice

  604. that Moses'

  605. invitation

  606. goes so

  607. much

  608. deeper.

  609. What we

  610. have here

  611. in verse

  612. 29

  613. is a

  614. personal

  615. gospel

  616. invitation.

  617. An

  618. invitation,

  619. you might

  620. say,

  621. with a

  622. powerful

  623. gospel

  624. dynamic

  625. to it.

  626. But I

  627. know that

  628. the moment

  629. we make

  630. reference

  631. to the

  632. word

  633. gospel,

  634. someone

  635. might be

  636. thinking,

  637. hold on,

  638. this is

  639. not the

  640. New

  641. Testament.

  642. We are

  643. not here

  644. on the

  645. pages of

  646. Matthew,

  647. Mark,

  648. Luke,

  649. or John.

  650. The

  651. book of

  652. Numbers

  653. centers on

  654. ancient

  655. Israel,

  656. not the

  657. first

  658. century

  659. world

  660. of the

  661. gospel.

  662. Well,

  663. that's

  664. true,

  665. but there

  666. are

  667. clear,

  668. very

  669. clear

  670. overtones

  671. of the

  672. good news

  673. of the

  674. gospel

  675. here,

  676. as you

  677. will find

  678. across

  679. the pages

  680. of the

  681. Old

  682. Testament.

  683. Let's

  684. not forget

  685. how it

  686. begins.

  687. Where do

  688. we first

  689. see that

  690. powerful,

  691. moving,

  692. stirring

  693. gospel

  694. dynamic?

  695. We see

  696. it,

  697. don't we,

  698. in Genesis

    Genesis 3:15

  699. chapter 3,

  700. verse 15.

  701. Theologians

  702. call it

  703. the

  704. Proto-Evangelium,

  705. the first

  706. announcement

  707. of the

  708. gospel

  709. on the

  710. pages of

  711. scripture.

  712. And yes,

  713. this is

  714. book 1

  715. of 66,

  716. and the

  717. gospel

  718. is beginning

  719. to resonate

  720. as we

  721. begin

  722. our

  723. journey

  724. through

  725. redemption

  726. history.

  727. Genesis

  728. 3, 15

  729. revolves

  730. around the

  731. offspring

  732. of the

  733. woman,

  734. the one

  735. who would

  736. triumph

  737. over the

  738. old

  739. serpent,

  740. and his

  741. name is

  742. Jesus

  743. Christ.

  744. he

  745. shall

  746. bruise

  747. your

  748. head,

  749. God

  750. says,

  751. to the

  752. serpent

  753. in the

  754. narrative

  755. of the

  756. fall.

  757. Yes,

  758. the

  759. gospels

  760. are a

  761. distinct

  762. part of

  763. the New

  764. Testament,

  765. but

  766. exploring

  767. gospel

  768. themes

  769. like

  770. Numbers

  771. 10,

  772. 29

  773. within

  774. on the

  775. pages of

  776. the Old

  777. Testament

  778. provides

  779. us,

  780. doesn't

  781. it,

  782. with a

  783. deeper

  784. understanding

  785. of the

  786. Bible

  787. as a

  788. whole

  789. and of

  790. how the

  791. Old

  792. Testament

  793. points

  794. us

  795. consistently

  796. in the

  797. direction

  798. of

  799. Jesus.

  800. The

  801. Old

  802. Testament

  803. gravitates

  804. towards

  805. Jesus

  806. and

  807. ultimately

  808. crystallizes

  809. in

  810. Jesus

  811. Christ.

  812. The

  813. great

  814. translator

  815. of

  816. Scripture

  817. himself,

  818. William

  819. Tyndale,

  820. puts it

  821. so,

  822. so well,

  823. the

  824. Scriptures

  825. spring

  826. out of

  827. God

  828. and

  829. flow

  830. into

  831. Christ

  832. and

  833. were

  834. given

  835. to

  836. lead

  837. us

  838. to

  839. Christ.

  840. Well,

  841. Numbers

  842. 10

  843. is no

  844. exception.

  845. So I

  846. want us

  847. to see

  848. that this

  849. passage

  850. is

  851. bulging

  852. with what

  853. we're

  854. going to

  855. call

  856. gospel

  857. markers.

  858. The

  859. invitation

  860. of the

  861. gospel

  862. and

  863. Hobab's

  864. response

  865. to it

  866. is

  867. played

  868. out

  869. very,

  870. very

  871. clearly

  872. here.

  873. So the

  874. symbolic

  875. significance

  876. of what

  877. unfolds

  878. is

  879. striking.

  880. You see,

  881. Hobab

  882. is essentially

  883. being

  884. invited

  885. here

  886. by

  887. Moses

  888. to

  889. enter

  890. into

  891. fellowship

  892. with

  893. God's

  894. people.

  895. It is

  896. a call

  897. to

  898. discipleship

  899. and there

  900. are overtones

  901. here of

  902. that key

  903. discipleship

  904. directive

  905. follow me

  906. so central

  907. to the

  908. gospel

  909. ministry

  910. of the

  911. Lord

  912. Jesus

  913. on the

  914. pages

  915. of the

  916. gospel

  917. but we

  918. see it

  919. here.

  920. you

  921. might

  922. say

  923. that

  924. it's

  925. a

  926. big

  927. ask

  928. from

  929. Hobab's

  930. perspective.

  931. Well,

  932. so it

  933. is.

  934. But for

  935. you and

  936. I this

  937. morning

  938. there are

  939. moments

  940. in life

  941. when we

  942. either

  943. accept

  944. or

  945. decline

  946. an

  947. invitation

  948. to

  949. various

  950. life

  951. events,

  952. functions,

  953. meetings,

  954. receptions,

  955. and other

  956. occasions.

  957. But you

  958. see,

  959. Numbers

  960. 10

  961. 29

  962. takes us

  963. into the

  964. realm

  965. of one

  966. of life's

  967. defining

  968. moments.

  969. This is

  970. a momentous

  971. invitation

  972. like no

  973. other.

  974. And how

  975. you respond

  976. today

  977. to this

  978. gospel

  979. invitation

  980. of Numbers

  981. 10

  982. 29

  983. matters

  984. more than

  985. anything else

  986. that's unfolding

  987. in your life

  988. right now.

  989. In fact,

  990. it will

  991. determine

  992. how you

  993. live the

  994. rest of

  995. your life

  996. and where

  997. you will

  998. spend the

  999. endless

  1000. ages of

  1001. eternity.

  1002. This is

  1003. serious

  1004. business.

  1005. Hobab

  1006. is

  1007. invited.

  1008. It's

  1009. more of

  1010. an exhortation,

  1011. isn't it?

  1012. Come with

  1013. us

  1014. to associate

  1015. himself

  1016. with Israel,

  1017. to join

  1018. the circle,

  1019. to position

  1020. himself

  1021. behind the

  1022. ark of

  1023. the covenant

  1024. and to

  1025. follow the

  1026. pillar of

  1027. clouds,

  1028. to walk

  1029. by faith,

  1030. to follow

  1031. not just

  1032. God's

  1033. people,

  1034. but God

  1035. himself.

  1036. And should

  1037. he come

  1038. along,

  1039. Hobab is

  1040. assured

  1041. that he

  1042. will be

  1043. made to

  1044. feel

  1045. most welcome,

  1046. he will

  1047. be well

  1048. received,

  1049. and he

  1050. will be

  1051. embraced

  1052. with

  1053. generosity

  1054. and

  1055. kindness.

  1056. We

  1057. will

  1058. treat

  1059. you

  1060. well,

  1061. is what

  1062. Moses

  1063. conveys to

  1064. Hobab

  1065. literally

  1066. in the

  1067. words we

  1068. have here.

  1069. And by

  1070. extension,

  1071. this is

  1072. your assurance

  1073. today too,

  1074. should you

  1075. come

  1076. and follow

  1077. in the

  1078. footsteps

  1079. of

  1080. Hobab.

  1081. But secondly,

  1082. Hobab

  1083. assured.

  1084. Now,

  1085. what are we

  1086. to make

  1087. of Moses'

  1088. words of

  1089. assurance

  1090. to Hobab

  1091. here?

  1092. Well,

  1093. the words

  1094. are interesting.

  1095. We will

  1096. do good

  1097. to you,

  1098. we will

  1099. treat you

  1100. well,

  1101. for the

  1102. Lord has

  1103. promised

  1104. good things

  1105. for Israel.

  1106. Hobab's

  1107. assurance

  1108. is founded

  1109. on the

  1110. goodness

  1111. and

  1112. faithfulness

  1113. of God.

  1114. The

  1115. Lord,

  1116. in his

  1117. covenant

  1118. faithfulness,

  1119. has promised

  1120. good things

  1121. for Israel,

  1122. primarily

  1123. the

  1124. promised

  1125. land.

  1126. And this

  1127. is what

  1128. Moses

  1129. is alluding

  1130. to.

  1131. Hobab

  1132. now has

  1133. the

  1134. opportunity

  1135. to become

  1136. a recipient

  1137. of this

  1138. covenant

  1139. promise

  1140. and the

  1141. multiple

  1142. blessings

  1143. that go

  1144. with it.

  1145. He's

  1146. invited,

  1147. he's

  1148. encouraged,

  1149. he's

  1150. exhorted

  1151. in the

  1152. imperative

  1153. mood.

  1154. Come

  1155. with us,

  1156. walk

  1157. with us,

  1158. journey

  1159. with us

  1160. on this

  1161. epic journey,

  1162. and we

  1163. will treat

  1164. you well.

  1165. You will

  1166. share,

  1167. you too,

  1168. yes Hobab,

  1169. you too

  1170. will share

  1171. in our

  1172. inheritance

  1173. of God's

  1174. goodness

  1175. and loving

  1176. kindness.

  1177. This is

  1178. his assurance

  1179. should he

  1180. come along

  1181. and it

  1182. is

  1183. quite

  1184. compelling.

  1185. Again,

  1186. there are

  1187. gospel

  1188. overtones

  1189. to this

  1190. promised

  1191. inheritance

  1192. that we

  1193. find,

  1194. don't we,

  1195. across the

  1196. scriptures.

  1197. Listen to

  1198. the words

  1199. of Peter

  1200. Peter 1

  1201. verses 3

  1202. and 4.

  1203. Praise be

  1204. to the

  1205. God and

  1206. Father of

  1207. our Lord

  1208. Jesus

  1209. Christ.

  1210. In his

  1211. great

  1212. mercy,

  1213. he has

  1214. given us

  1215. in Jesus

  1216. an inheritance

  1217. that can

  1218. never perish,

  1219. spoil,

  1220. or fade.

  1221. And he

  1222. says this

  1223. inheritance

  1224. is kept

  1225. in heaven

  1226. for you.

  1227. You see,

  1228. what was

  1229. promised in

  1230. Numbers 10

  1231. 29 is

  1232. fulfilled

  1233. in the

  1234. Lord Jesus

  1235. Christ.

  1236. the ultimate

  1237. inheritance

  1238. we have

  1239. in Christ

  1240. is

  1241. Emmanuel's

  1242. land,

  1243. the heavenly

  1244. city that

  1245. has foundations

  1246. whose

  1247. designer and

  1248. builder is

  1249. God.

  1250. Hebrews 11

  1251. 10,

  1252. alluding,

  1253. of course,

  1254. to that

  1255. great promise

  1256. given to

  1257. Abraham.

  1258. Abraham.

  1259. And Abraham

  1260. actively

  1261. pursued

  1262. this

  1263. great

  1264. promise.

  1265. He was

  1266. looking

  1267. forward

  1268. to it,

  1269. the writer

  1270. to the

  1271. Hebrews

  1272. tells us

  1273. in

  1274. 11

  1275. 10.

  1276. You see,

  1277. the words

  1278. of

  1279. Numbers

  1280. 10

  1281. 29,

  1282. these words

  1283. were uttered

  1284. some 3,500

  1285. years ago.

  1286. And isn't it

  1287. remarkable that

  1288. these words

  1289. continue to

  1290. resonate with

  1291. us today

  1292. and are

  1293. amplified

  1294. through

  1295. the

  1296. gospel.

  1297. So,

  1298. Numbers

  1299. 10

  1300. 29 has

  1301. lost

  1302. nothing of

  1303. its gospel

  1304. intensity.

  1305. This

  1306. invitation

  1307. comes to

  1308. us

  1309. today

  1310. within

  1311. these

  1312. walls

  1313. with the

  1314. propelling

  1315. thrust

  1316. of the

  1317. gospel.

  1318. It has

  1319. lost

  1320. nothing

  1321. of its

  1322. weight

  1323. and

  1324. urgency.

  1325. Come

  1326. with

  1327. us.

  1328. It's a

  1329. familiar

  1330. formula

  1331. of words,

  1332. isn't it?

  1333. You might

  1334. say,

  1335. it sounds

  1336. like.

  1337. Well,

  1338. it does.

  1339. Come

  1340. with us

  1341. is very

  1342. similar to,

  1343. for example,

  1344. what Philip

  1345. said to a

  1346. somewhat

  1347. skeptical

  1348. Nathaniel

  1349. in the

  1350. opening

  1351. chapter of

  1352. John's

  1353. gospel.

  1354. If you

  1355. read from

  1356. verse 43,

  1357. the narrative

  1358. unfolds.

  1359. But what

  1360. does he

  1361. say to

  1362. this

  1363. somewhat

  1364. cynical

  1365. Nathaniel?

  1366. Come.

  1367. Come with

  1368. us.

  1369. Come and

  1370. see.

  1371. Accompany

  1372. me.

  1373. Let me

  1374. take you

  1375. to the

  1376. feet of

  1377. Jesus.

  1378. Nathaniel

  1379. is a

  1380. reluctant

  1381. disciple

  1382. who,

  1383. before

  1384. accepting

  1385. Philip's

  1386. invitation

  1387. to come

  1388. to Jesus,

  1389. questions

  1390. whether

  1391. anything

  1392. good

  1393. can

  1394. come

  1395. out

  1396. of

  1397. Nazareth.

  1398. But,

  1399. oh,

  1400. when he

  1401. comes

  1402. and when

  1403. he

  1404. follows

  1405. Jesus,

  1406. he is

  1407. immediately,

  1408. just like

  1409. Hobab,

  1410. assured

  1411. of seeing

  1412. greater

  1413. things.

  1414. Come

  1415. with us.

  1416. This is

  1417. the great

  1418. anthem of

  1419. the Church

  1420. of Christ.

  1421. It's a

  1422. personal

  1423. invitation

  1424. inviting you

  1425. this morning

  1426. if you

  1427. have not

  1428. as yet

  1429. embraced

  1430. this

  1431. invitation

  1432. to come,

  1433. to come

  1434. into

  1435. Christian

  1436. fellowship.

  1437. It's a

  1438. call to

  1439. Christian

  1440. discipleship

  1441. to publicly

  1442. associate

  1443. yourself,

  1444. yes,

  1445. in this

  1446. very moment

  1447. with God's

  1448. own people

  1449. and to

  1450. lift the

  1451. gospel

  1452. standard,

  1453. the

  1454. banner

  1455. of

  1456. Jesus

  1457. Christ

  1458. and to

  1459. join the

  1460. circle

  1461. and follow

  1462. Jesus.

  1463. We are

  1464. talking about

  1465. an open

  1466. confession

  1467. of faith

  1468. in Jesus

  1469. Christ.

  1470. Is this

  1471. the moment

  1472. where some

  1473. of us

  1474. here today

  1475. will stand

  1476. up and

  1477. stand out

  1478. and respond

  1479. in a

  1480. positive

  1481. vein to

  1482. this

  1483. gospel

  1484. invitation

  1485. of

  1486. Numbers

  1487. 1029.

  1488. The

  1489. assurance,

  1490. the

  1491. declaration,

  1492. the

  1493. guarantee

  1494. that is

  1495. extended to

  1496. Hobab

  1497. has not

  1498. changed.

  1499. I assure

  1500. you today

  1501. on the

  1502. authority of

  1503. God's

  1504. word that

  1505. we,

  1506. the people

  1507. of God

  1508. will do

  1509. you good.

  1510. We will

  1511. treat you

  1512. well.

  1513. Now,

  1514. coming back

  1515. to Hobab,

  1516. he knows

  1517. a thing or

  1518. two about

  1519. the wilderness.

  1520. Let's be

  1521. clear about

  1522. that.

  1523. He knows

  1524. that the

  1525. wilderness

  1526. out there

  1527. beyond

  1528. Sinai

  1529. is difficult.

  1530. It's

  1531. demanding.

  1532. It's

  1533. challenging

  1534. terrain,

  1535. and Moses

  1536. will not

  1537. try to

  1538. pull the

  1539. wool over

  1540. his eyes.

  1541. Because

  1542. Hobab

  1543. knows too

  1544. much.

  1545. He knows

  1546. the wilderness

  1547. far better

  1548. than Moses.

  1549. He knows

  1550. that it's a

  1551. dangerous world

  1552. out there.

  1553. Yet,

  1554. he is

  1555. reminded

  1556. that God

  1557. has promised

  1558. an abundance

  1559. of good

  1560. things

  1561. to his

  1562. covenant

  1563. people.

  1564. Multiple

  1565. blessings

  1566. await him.

  1567. a promised

  1568. land

  1569. flowing

  1570. with

  1571. milk

  1572. and

  1573. honey.

  1574. Now,

  1575. Hobab

  1576. has seen

  1577. for himself,

  1578. of course,

  1579. in the

  1580. life of

  1581. his brother-in-law,

  1582. Moses,

  1583. that God

  1584. is indeed

  1585. true to

  1586. his word.

  1587. Yes,

  1588. he is

  1589. truthful,

  1590. he is

  1591. faithful,

  1592. and he

  1593. is covenant

  1594. keeping.

  1595. Because

  1596. the same

  1597. Moses,

  1598. this is

  1599. the same

  1600. Moses we're

  1601. talking about,

  1602. who refused

  1603. to be called

  1604. the son

  1605. of Pharaoh's

  1606. daughter,

  1607. he who was

  1608. once a prince

  1609. in Egypt,

  1610. walking through

  1611. the corridors

  1612. of power

  1613. within the

  1614. palace.

  1615. But he

  1616. chose,

  1617. of course,

  1618. he chose

  1619. rather to be

  1620. ill-treated

  1621. with the

  1622. people of

  1623. God

  1624. than to

  1625. enjoy,

  1626. as Hebrews

  1627. 11,

  1628. 24 puts it,

  1629. the fleeting

  1630. pleasures

  1631. of sin.

  1632. And he

  1633. has endured

  1634. much,

  1635. but his

  1636. endurance

  1637. has not

  1638. been without

  1639. enjoyment.

  1640. Moses

  1641. has experienced

  1642. God's

  1643. presence,

  1644. God's

  1645. power,

  1646. God's

  1647. blessing

  1648. time and

  1649. again.

  1650. So,

  1651. come with

  1652. us

  1653. is applicable

  1654. to you

  1655. an eye

  1656. today,

  1657. because,

  1658. you see,

  1659. just like

  1660. the Israelites

  1661. at the

  1662. beginning of

  1663. this narrative

  1664. back in

  1665. verse 11,

  1666. every day

  1667. of our

  1668. lives,

  1669. we too

  1670. are setting

  1671. out,

  1672. we too

  1673. are embarking

  1674. on a journey

  1675. into the

  1676. unknown.

  1677. We don't

  1678. have a clue

  1679. when we get

  1680. up in the

  1681. morning how

  1682. the day

  1683. is going

  1684. to unfold

  1685. and how

  1686. it's going

  1687. to end.

  1688. life is

  1689. uncertain.

  1690. However,

  1691. there is,

  1692. as this

  1693. passage

  1694. reminds us,

  1695. absolute

  1696. certainty

  1697. in the

  1698. promises of

  1699. God.

  1700. The future

  1701. is as

  1702. bright

  1703. for the

  1704. Christian

  1705. today as

  1706. the promises

  1707. of God,

  1708. because all

  1709. of his

  1710. promises are

  1711. yes,

  1712. amen,

  1713. in Christ

  1714. Jesus.

  1715. You see,

  1716. Numbers 10

  1717. comes with

  1718. a concrete

  1719. assurance that

  1720. God's

  1721. covenant

  1722. mercy and

  1723. grace will

  1724. follow me

  1725. closely in

  1726. all of my

  1727. ways and

  1728. that ultimately

  1729. I will

  1730. dwell in

  1731. the house

  1732. of the

  1733. Lord all

  1734. my

  1735. days,

  1736. world

  1737. without

  1738. end.

  1739. This is

  1740. the dynamic

  1741. of the

  1742. great

  1743. assurance

  1744. that

  1745. Hobab

  1746. is being

  1747. assured

  1748. of.

  1749. We see

  1750. it,

  1751. don't we,

  1752. in the

  1753. writings of

  1754. John

  1755. Newton,

  1756. in that

  1757. great

  1758. song,

  1759. that great

  1760. hymn of

  1761. praise,

  1762. amazing

  1763. grace.

  1764. The

  1765. Lord has

  1766. promised

  1767. good

  1768. to me.

  1769. His

  1770. word,

  1771. my hope

  1772. secures.

  1773. He will

  1774. my shield

  1775. and portion

  1776. be as

  1777. long as

  1778. life

  1779. endures.

  1780. So I

  1781. want to

  1782. ask,

  1783. just as

  1784. Hobab

  1785. was asked,

  1786. as we

  1787. close now,

  1788. will you

  1789. resolve

  1790. to come

  1791. on this

  1792. journey?

  1793. Do you

  1794. feel the

  1795. excitement

  1796. of this

  1797. moment at

  1798. Mount

  1799. Sinai?

  1800. God

  1801. will

  1802. be

  1803. to

  1804. leave.

  1805. And just

  1806. like Hobab,

  1807. you too are

  1808. encouraged,

  1809. as we

  1810. bring this

  1811. service to a

  1812. close,

  1813. as we

  1814. pronounce the

  1815. benediction,

  1816. to sign up,

  1817. to come

  1818. with us.

  1819. So how will

  1820. you respond to

  1821. this gospel

  1822. invitation today?

  1823. That is the

  1824. question.

  1825. Will you

  1826. join the

  1827. circle,

  1828. and will

  1829. you sit

  1830. with us

  1831. at the

  1832. feet of

  1833. the Lord

  1834. Jesus

  1835. Christ?

  1836. There is

  1837. no better

  1838. place to

  1839. be seated.

  1840. Because you

  1841. see, this

  1842. gospel

  1843. invitation of

  1844. Numbers 10

  1845. 29 finds

  1846. its ultimate

  1847. fulfillment in

  1848. one greater

  1849. than Moses.

  1850. In the

  1851. very personal

  1852. invitation of

  1853. the Lord

  1854. Jesus,

  1855. on the

  1856. pages of

  1857. Matthew 11

    Matthew 11:28

  1858. verse 28,

  1859. again,

  1860. sounds like,

  1861. come,

  1862. Jesus says,

  1863. come to me,

  1864. come with

  1865. me,

  1866. come to

  1867. me all

  1868. you who

  1869. labor and

  1870. are heavy

  1871. laden,

  1872. and I

  1873. assure you

  1874. that I

  1875. will give

  1876. you rest.

  1877. Come with

  1878. me and I

  1879. will do

  1880. you good.

  1881. You will

  1882. find rest

  1883. for your

  1884. souls.

  1885. God

  1886. will

  1887. Hobab

  1888. do?

  1889. Well, that

  1890. remains to

  1891. be seen.

  1892. And if you

  1893. are interested

  1894. in how all

  1895. of this

  1896. unfolds,

  1897. because it's

  1898. not without

  1899. an element

  1900. of uncertainty,

  1901. there's an

  1902. element of

  1903. suspense at

  1904. this point.

  1905. but if you

  1906. are interested

  1907. in what

  1908. happens next

  1909. and how it

  1910. all concludes,

  1911. come back at

  1912. six o'clock,

  1913. because we're

  1914. going to

  1915. revisit this

  1916. passage,

  1917. and we're

  1918. going to

  1919. navigate our

  1920. way through

  1921. it and

  1922. determine how

  1923. it all

  1924. ends.

  1925. But the

  1926. big question

  1927. today is

  1928. for how

  1929. this service

  1930. ends for

  1931. you.

  1932. Will you

  1933. respond to

  1934. this invitation

  1935. in the

  1936. here and

  1937. now, and

  1938. come to

  1939. the feet

  1940. of Jesus?

  1941. Amen.

  1942. Our

  1943. heavenly

  1944. Father, we

  1945. praise you

  1946. for the

  1947. invitation of

  1948. the gospel,

  1949. how we

  1950. give thanks

  1951. today for

  1952. the

  1953. multiple

  1954. invitations

  1955. and exhortations

  1956. we have

  1957. across the

  1958. pages of

  1959. the Bible.

  1960. We thank

  1961. you for the

  1962. compelling

  1963. words we

  1964. have engaged

  1965. with this

  1966. morning,

  1967. and may

  1968. we be

  1969. led to

  1970. stand

  1971. where

  1972. Hobab

  1973. stood with

  1974. Moses.

  1975. all these

  1976. generations

  1977. ago, in

  1978. the mists

  1979. of time,

  1980. and yet

  1981. your word

  1982. is both

  1983. timeless

  1984. and timely.

  1985. It speaks

  1986. to us

  1987. now, and

  1988. may we

  1989. sense your

  1990. still small

  1991. voice bidding

  1992. us to

  1993. come.

  1994. In

  1995. Jesus'

  1996. name,

  1997. Amen.

  1998. We're

  1999. going to

  2000. sing in

  2001. conclusion to

  2002. the praise

  2003. of God

  2004. the words

  2005. of Psalm

  2006. 34.

  2007. It's the

  2008. Scottish

  2009. Psalter.

  2010. It's on

  2011. page 247.

  2012. And we're

  2013. going to

  2014. sing verses

  2015. 8 to

  2016. 15.

  2017. this great

  2018. gospel

  2019. invitation of

  2020. the Psalter

  2021. to taste,

  2022. to see,

  2023. to experience

  2024. the reality

  2025. of God's

  2026. goodness

  2027. in Christ.

  2028. Oh,

  2029. taste and

  2030. see that

  2031. God is

  2032. good,

  2033. who trusts

  2034. in him

  2035. is blessed,

  2036. fear God

  2037. his saints,

  2038. none that

  2039. him fear

  2040. shall be

  2041. with want

  2042. oppressed.

  2043. Let's

  2044. sing these

  2045. stanzas

  2046. and

  2047. conclusion.

  2048. Oh,

  2049. taste and

  2050. see that

  2051. God

  2052. is good,

  2053. who trusts

  2054. in him

  2055. is blessed,

  2056. fear God

  2057. the saints,

  2058. and the saints

  2059. none that

  2060. in fear

  2061. shall be

  2062. with want

  2063. oppressed.

  2064. oppressed.

  2065. The lions

  2066. young may

  2067. hungry be,

  2068. and they

  2069. may lack

  2070. their food,

  2071. but they

  2072. that truly

  2073. seek the

  2074. Lord

  2075. shall not

  2076. lack

  2077. any good.

  2078. O children,

  2079. hither

  2080. do ye

  2081. come,

  2082. and unto

  2083. me

  2084. give ear,

  2085. I

  2086. shall

  2087. you

  2088. teach

  2089. to

  2090. understand

  2091. how he

  2092. the Lord

  2093. should

  2094. fear.

  2095. What

  2096. man

  2097. is he

  2098. that

  2099. life

  2100. desires

  2101. to see

  2102. good

  2103. would

  2104. live

  2105. on,

  2106. and

  2107. lips

  2108. refrain

  2109. from

  2110. speaking

  2111. God,

  2112. and from

  2113. ill

  2114. words

  2115. thy

  2116. tongue.

  2117. Depart

  2118. from

  2119. ill,

  2120. do

  2121. good,

  2122. seek

  2123. peace,

  2124. pursue

  2125. eternally.

  2126. God's

  2127. eyes

  2128. are

  2129. on

  2130. the

  2131. just,

  2132. his

  2133. ears

  2134. are

  2135. open

  2136. to

  2137. their

  2138. cry.

  2139. The

  2140. grace of

  2141. the Lord

  2142. Jesus

  2143. Christ,

  2144. the love

  2145. of God

  2146. the Father,

  2147. and the

  2148. fellowship

  2149. of the

  2150. Holy

  2151. Spirit,

  2152. remain

  2153. with us

  2154. all.

  2155. Amen.
