  1. Good evening. It would be worth having Psalm 116 in front of our eyes as we have a look at it this evening.

  2. ! So it would be great if you got that open. And as you get it ready, let me suggest to you that culturally, we tend to associate certain songs with certain occasions.

  3. Now, I'll choose ones which are neutral, which won't apply to you. For example, if you like rugby, well, you might like rugby, and you're Welsh, we have a national anthem, of course, as do you, but there's a hymn, Guide me, O Thou Great Jehovah, pilgrim through this barren land.

  4. Bread of heaven, feed me now and evermore. From childhood, that hymn, right or wrong, is associated with watching Wales, as a child, play rugby.

  5. A bit more common and untidy is that if you like football, if you like Liverpool, or even if you don't, you may well know that you'll never walk alone is a song that is always associated with that football team.

  6. Now, Psalm 116 is deeply associated in the mind of the writer or any child who ever, ever read it at Saturday school as a Jewish child.

  7. So, Psalm 116 is deeply associated with the Passover festival.

  8. And the last thing that a Jewish home ever did on the last night of Passover, a Thursday, was to have a meal together.

  9. And when they had a meal together, they sang as the last thing they did that night.

  10. Psalms 113 to Psalm 118, as they recorded for us, as the final Passover hymn.

  11. So, when Jesus Christ goes to the last supper, Matthew tells us in chapter 26 and verse 30,

  12. when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.

  13. You know the hymn.

  14. It's Psalm 113 to 118.

  15. Right in the middle of those psalms, as we have them captured in those numbers,

  16. would be words that the Lord Jesus Christ would have known since he was a little boy.

  17. He'd have known them inside out, upside down and round and round.

  18. He could sing them any time.

  19. Because every year since he was a kid, his family had sung that song the day before the Passover final celebration on a Friday.

  20. So, my friends, when you ever read or sing Psalm 113 to 118, and tonight we're in the center, 116, and we shall look at it in detail.

  21. You need to get, sorry, that's not fair, I need to get, we need to get, this clear point.

  22. These words that we're looking at tonight were in Jesus' mind as he walked into Gethsemane.

  23. They were in his mind as Judas Iscariot betrayed him.

  24. They were in his mind when he was arrested and beaten.

  25. They would have been in his mind as he hung on a cross.

  26. So, we are about to read through again the very psalm that Jesus knew applied to him on the cross.

  27. The psalm, if you look down at it, refers to the horror of death three times in verses 3, verse 8, and verse 15.

  28. It's a psalm of despair at facing the agony and the horror and terror of death.

  29. But it is also a psalm of rescue.

  30. It's a psalm that cries out that God will rescue his nation and his people, as sung at Passover.

  31. When we read this psalm now together, we therefore need to look at it from a certain perspective.

  32. When the psalmist wrote it, he was looking back to the Passover.

  33. Make sense?

  34. He was looking backwards in history.

  35. As he wrote it, he didn't know.

  36. He was writing forwards to Jesus Christ.

  37. We live beyond the time of Christ.

  38. So, now we can look back

  39. via the cross of Christ

  40. and the Jesus who knew this psalm applied to himself.

  41. And then we can apply it to ourselves on this Sunday evening.

  42. So that we may walk out of that door tonight saying,

  43. I am glad.

  44. I am glad that I have a Savior.

  45. I am glad.

  46. It is my privilege to be a woman or a man who has Christ in their lives.

  47. Psalm 116 is Jesus' song.

  48. The Jesus who knew that as he walked into that cross and grave,

  49. who cried out,

  50. Father,

  51. Father, take this cup from me,

  52. but not my will,

  53. but your will be done.

  54. The very Jesus Christ,

  55. who cried those words,

  56. knew he would go to the cross,

  57. knew it would be anguish,

  58. knew he would defeat death,

  59. and knew that you and I would be in this building tonight,

  60. looking back.

  61. When he says to us,

  62. all right,

  63. you,

  64. sing the song with me,

  65. because it's your song now.

  66. It is your song now,

  67. because of what I've done.

  68. So come on,

  69. let's get into the song,

  70. because if you're a Christian,

  71. it's your song,

  72. through faith in Jesus Christ.

  73. Here we go.

  74. Let's have a look at it in detail then.

  75. Verses 1 to 2.

  76. Please have a look at it.

  77. It's full of emotion.

  78. I love the Lord,

  79. because he has heard my voice,

  80. and my pleas for mercy,

  81. because he inclined his ear to me,

  82. therefore I will call on him as long as I live.

  83. Let's sing this song,

  84. as it were,

  85. as a Christian,

  86. if you are a Christian tonight.

  87. Jesus' death at the cross,

  88. the Passover lamb,

  89. as he sang this song,

  90. going to that cross,

  91. he made it possible for you and me to say this evening,

  92. I love the Lord.

  93. I really do.

  94. I just love him.

  95. Why would we love him?

  96. Look at verse 1.

  97. Because he has heard my voice.

  98. As Jesus cried to his father that night,

  99. he goes on to beat death.

  100. He goes on to beat the grave.

  101. He goes on to reach you,

  102. so that you can say this Sunday evening,

  103. I love the Lord.

  104. Why?

  105. Because he hears my voice.

  106. He's always listening for me.

  107. Look,

  108. he hears my pleas for mercy.

  109. When life is terrible,

  110. when it's gone wrong,

  111. when it's broken,

  112. who can I turn to?

  113. When I have sinned,

  114. when I've let myself down,

  115. when I've let my parents down,

  116. my family down,

  117. when I'm hurt inside for my failure,

  118. where can I turn?

  119. And he says,

  120. turn to me.

  121. You can always turn to me.

  122. I will never turn away from you.

  123. Isn't that a relief?

  124. If your ability

  125. to turn to Christ

  126. depended on how good you've been

  127. in the last six days,

  128. could you turn to him?

  129. I hazard a guess

  130. that many of us would say,

  131. no, I couldn't.

  132. This is a psalm that says,

  133. you can turn to him

  134. because he paid for your sin.

  135. He's paid for it.

  136. And so,

  137. turn to him.

  138. Plead to him.

  139. Ask him for his help

  140. in your adversity.

  141. And look at verse 2.

  142. Don't you think

  143. this is the most beautiful picture?

  144. If a child is shy,

  145. this is what you do, isn't it?

  146. Of an older person

  147. can't hear you very well.

  148. You incline your ear to them.

  149. This is verse 2.

  150. You say,

  151. tell me again.

  152. What did you want to say?

  153. And this is a picture

  154. of the Lord Jesus Christ himself

  155. when you cry out to him

  156. saying,

  157. what's wrong?

  158. Tell me again.

  159. What can I do for you?

  160. What's the matter?

  161. Like a parent loves a child.

  162. I want to help you, darling.

  163. This is the Christ

  164. of the Bible.

  165. This is the Lord Jesus Christ

  166. that Christians come to worship

  167. together on Sundays.

  168. He is the God of compassion.

  169. The God of comfort.

  170. But don't make the mistake

  171. of thinking

  172. he's only there to comfort

  173. well-behaved Christians

  174. or people who got it

  175. perfectly right this week

  176. because no one would be

  177. available for comfort.

  178. Which is why Christians

  179. gather together to remember

  180. that through the death

  181. and resurrection

  182. of the one who sang this song

  183. at Calvary.

  184. You and I

  185. can flee to him

  186. and say,

  187. I love you.

  188. You listen to me.

  189. You care about me.

  190. You listen out for me.

  191. And I will call on you.

  192. Look at the end of verse 2.

  193. As long as I live,

  194. there will never be a day

  195. when you can't call

  196. on Jesus Christ.

  197. Never.

  198. Not once.

  199. In the middle of the night

  200. when everybody's asleep.

  201. Mum and dad are asleep.

  202. Or your husband or wife

  203. are asleep.

  204. Or your,

  205. anyone who really loves you

  206. is fast asleep

  207. and you wake up

  208. and you don't know

  209. what you're going to do.

  210. I've got it wrong.

  211. I'm frightened.

  212. I'm scared.

  213. What shall I do?

  214. Whose year

  215. is always there?

  216. Christ's year

  217. is always there.

  218. He never turns away.

  219. He never rolls his eyes.

  220. This is the wonder

  221. of being

  222. a Christian.

  223. At that cross,

  224. he paid it all

  225. so that you could always

  226. come to him

  227. in all your failures.

  228. That's why the reformers,

  229. the 16th century reformers,

  230. when they talked of grace,

  231. the great Thomas Cranmer,

  232. the English reformer,

  233. he said,

  234. you'll never understand grace

  235. if you don't feel gratitude.

  236. The grace of God

  237. in the death

  238. and resurrection

  239. of Jesus Christ

  240. always engenders

  241. gratitude

  242. in the human soul.

  243. Thank you

  244. that you love me.

  245. Not just my mum,

  246. not just my dad,

  247. not just my friend,

  248. not just my granddad,

  249. that you love me.

  250. Not just the woman

  251. next to me.

  252. You love me.

  253. Me.

  254. Personally, me.

  255. That's why you died.

  256. That's why he's

  257. the Passover lamb.

  258. And verses 1 to 2,

  259. you'll be glad to know

  260. are the overture

  261. that runs throughout

  262. this psalm.

  263. What's the problem

  264. for Jesus

  265. as he goes to the cross?

  266. What's the problem

  267. for the psalmist?

  268. Have a look with me

  269. at verses 3 and 4.

  270. He says,

  271. the snares of death

  272. encompass me,

  273. says the psalmist.

  274. Well,

  275. he's pointing to Christ.

  276. They certainly did

  277. encompass him that night

  278. on the way to Calvary.

  279. The pangs of Sheol

  280. laid hold of me.

  281. I suffered distress

  282. and anguish.

  283. Then I called on

  284. the name of the Lord.

  285. Lord,

  286. I pray deliver my soul.

  287. The picture here,

  288. look,

  289. snares,

  290. being trapped

  291. like an animal.

  292. So let me ask you again,

  293. think of times

  294. in your life

  295. when you feel trapped.

  296. The snare has got you.

  297. Where shall I turn?

  298. Who shall I turn to?

  299. And there's another picture

  300. here in verse 3.

  301. As if life is

  302. closing in on you,

  303. you're walking

  304. into a dark cave

  305. and the rocks are gathering

  306. and there's no way out

  307. and you're trapped.

  308. That's what these words mean.

  309. And what the Lord Jesus,

  310. death and resurrection,

  311. of the song he sang

  312. that night of the Passover,

  313. means for you and I tonight,

  314. is that when the snares

  315. of death encompass us,

  316. yes,

  317. when that day comes,

  318. yes,

  319. when the end is nigh,

  320. no death

  321. will crush us

  322. for eternal life

  323. is ours.

  324. My life will not end

  325. when I take my last breath

  326. in this world

  327. because my Lord Jesus

  328. beat death

  329. and it will not crush me.

  330. There is a root

  331. through the cave.

  332. These images are graphic.

  333. Ropes,

  334. a net,

  335. a trap,

  336. a burial.

  337. And the creator

  338. of the universe says,

  339. I'm going to go

  340. through that

  341. so that you,

  342. when you go through it,

  343. will know that

  344. I beat death

  345. and my darling,

  346. you are mine

  347. and I'm taking you

  348. through as well.

  349. I love you.

  350. You see,

  351. the refrain is verses

  352. one and two,

  353. the chorus is verses

  354. one and two.

  355. I love you.

  356. I'm listening for you.

  357. I've got my ear out for you.

  358. Talk to me.

  359. Talk to me.

  360. Throw all your weight

  361. on me.

  362. I've crushed the door

  363. down for you.

  364. I am your Lord

  365. and Savior.

  366. It's a beautiful psalm.

  367. Beautiful.

  368. Who is this Lord

  369. Jesus Christ?

  370. Look at verse five.

  371. Look at these wonderful

  372. characteristics.

  373. He's gracious.

  374. Gracious is the Lord

  375. and righteous.

  376. How could God

  377. forgive Israel

  378. in the old covenant?

  379. Because he made

  380. a covenant with them

  381. and he said,

  382. I am your covenant God.

  383. And at Passover,

  384. they celebrated

  385. that the righteous God

  386. put the punishment

  387. on the Passover lamb.

  388. That's what the righteous God

  389. did in the Egyptian Passover.

  390. But he's a gracious God

  391. because the punishment

  392. goes on the lamb

  393. to liberate the people

  394. from their sin

  395. so they can walk free

  396. to the promised land.

  397. And at Calvary,

  398. as we look back

  399. through this psalm

  400. that Jesus sung,

  401. he knew he was singing

  402. in verse five

  403. that the righteous God

  404. wouldn't kill a lamb

  405. but would kill

  406. his own son.

  407. And the kind

  408. and gracious God

  409. would rescue you

  410. and me

  411. because our price

  412. was paid at Calvary.

  413. And the price

  414. for your rebellion

  415. and mine

  416. is paid at that cross.

  417. And because it's paid,

  418. I am free.

  419. There is no condemnation

  420. for those who are

  421. in Christ Jesus.

  422. and Christ knew this

  423. as he went to the cross.

  424. And you and I

  425. sit in this room tonight

  426. as the recipients

  427. of the price paid

  428. at Calvary

  429. for the righteousness

  430. of God

  431. and for the compassion

  432. of Christ

  433. that saves us.

  434. How could somebody

  435. not be a Christian?

  436. It's mad

  437. not to have this hope.

  438. When life

  439. kicks you in the teeth,

  440. we die once

  441. and for all

  442. in the end

  443. until we go to heaven.

  444. Everybody does it.

  445. It's 100% success rate

  446. at this stage.

  447. Mortality.

  448. But you know

  449. we suffer death

  450. by a thousand cuts

  451. don't we every year?

  452. The pain of rejection,

  453. an argument,

  454. a fight,

  455. a failure,

  456. a getting it wrong,

  457. a fear

  458. of what's coming tomorrow.

  459. Death by a thousand cuts

  460. and we're asked

  461. in this psalm

  462. to run to Christ

  463. and say

  464. you felt it all,

  465. Saviour.

  466. You felt it all.

  467. I'll come to you.

  468. You went through it

  469. and you understand me

  470. and you're my Lord

  471. and I'm running to you.

  472. Help me.

  473. And there he is

  474. like this.

  475. Come here,

  476. lovely.

  477. Come here.

  478. Come to me.

  479. I love you,

  480. he says.

  481. That's how the line starts,

  482. doesn't it?

  483. I love you,

  484. Lord.

  485. And in 6 to 11,

  486. you could say them

  487. for yourself

  488. when the adversity comes

  489. because they're words

  490. for the believer

  491. in Christ.

  492. Let me read them.

  493. The Lord preserves

  494. the simple.

  495. I don't think

  496. that means

  497. the stupid.

  498. You know,

  499. sometimes where I come from

  500. we say simple

  501. means a bit dim.

  502. I don't think

  503. it means that.

  504. Well,

  505. I know it doesn't.

  506. Here's what it means.

  507. It means those

  508. who don't pretend

  509. to be cleverer

  510. than they are.

  511. It means the woman

  512. and man in this room

  513. tonight who says,

  514. well,

  515. I'm not sure

  516. I can follow your accent

  517. as a Welsh bloc

  518. here in the Highlands,

  519. but I get the general

  520. drift of the talk.

  521. This psalm

  522. was the psalm sung

  523. on the night

  524. of the Passover festival.

  525. The one who was

  526. the Passover lamb

  527. sung it.

  528. And he sung it

  529. knowing

  530. that he would die

  531. for me.

  532. And he sung it

  533. knowing that he would

  534. break the cords of death

  535. for eternal life

  536. for me.

  537. And he sung it

  538. knowing that one day

  539. on a Sunday evening

  540. in Stornoway,

  541. a few people

  542. would gather together

  543. to try and make sense

  544. of their lives

  545. last week and next week

  546. and say,

  547. Lord,

  548. are you with me?

  549. And he says,

  550. dear,

  551. I'm with you always.

  552. I went through

  553. Calvary for you.

  554. Do you think

  555. I'd leave you this week?

  556. Whatever you do wrong,

  557. not a chance.

  558. Not a chance,

  559. he says.

  560. The Lord preserves

  561. the simple.

  562. When I was brought low,

  563. could you say this

  564. this week?

  565. Can you look back

  566. this month?

  567. When I was brought low,

  568. he saved me.

  569. Return my soul

  570. to your rest,

  571. for the Lord

  572. has dealt bountifully

  573. with me.

  574. For you have delivered

  575. my soul from death,

  576. my eyes from tears,

  577. my feet from stumbling.

  578. I will walk

  579. before the Lord

  580. in the land

  581. of the living.

  582. I believed

  583. even when I spoke

  584. I am greatly afflicted.

  585. I said in my alarm,

  586. all mankind

  587. are liars.

  588. My friend,

  589. if you feel afflicted

  590. this week,

  591. if your soul

  592. is disturbed,

  593. if you feel

  594. human beings

  595. have let you down,

  596. look at 11

  597. liars.

  598. If you feel

  599. betrayed,

  600. it doesn't mean

  601. that the Christian

  602. doesn't weep.

  603. It doesn't mean

  604. that the Christian

  605. isn't in anguish.

  606. Of course,

  607. it can't mean that

  608. because it's the human condition.

  609. But it does mean this.

  610. The one who went

  611. before us,

  612. the perfect one,

  613. the one who paid

  614. the penalty at Calvary,

  615. the one who beat death,

  616. he,

  617. he knows how you feel.

  618. And he's right with you.

  619. He is never going away.

  620. He is never going to stop

  621. putting his arms around you

  622. and saying,

  623. I'm here.

  624. That's what we're meant

  625. to understand

  626. in this psalm.

  627. The greatest need

  628. of being a human being

  629. is met in Christ.

  630. The greatest hope

  631. for meaning this week

  632. and comfort

  633. and deep joy

  634. in all circumstances

  635. is to know Christ

  636. is your Saviour

  637. and Lord.

  638. We see him

  639. as the one

  640. who rescues us

  641. ultimately

  642. from the cords of death

  643. and this week

  644. from death

  645. by 20 cuts

  646. which hurt us

  647. on the way

  648. through the week.

  649. and finally

  650. with that in mind

  651. let's look at the last

  652. few lines

  653. from 12 to the end.

  654. if what I've said

  655. and my interpretation

  656. of the psalm for you

  657. this evening

  658. is true

  659. what do you think

  660. for the psalmist

  661. what do you think

  662. the obvious question is?

  663. surely it's question

  664. in verse 12

  665. what shall I render

  666. to the Lord

  667. for all his benefits

  668. to me?

  669. Lord

  670. if you love me

  671. this much

  672. if you love me

  673. and you know

  674. what I've been up to

  675. and you know

  676. things that my mum

  677. and dad don't know

  678. my husband or wife

  679. may not know

  680. you know what's

  681. in my head

  682. if you died

  683. for me

  684. and you will

  685. never leave me

  686. because the covenant

  687. is met in your blood

  688. and I can come

  689. to you any time

  690. even in my failure

  691. and anguish

  692. at life

  693. Lord

  694. what shall I do

  695. for you?

  696. if somebody loves you

  697. this much

  698. humanly

  699. you'd say

  700. what can I do

  701. to give it back

  702. to you?

  703. now

  704. here's the brilliant

  705. climax of this psalm

  706. it's the brilliant

  707. climax of the Christian life

  708. what can you do?

  709. here's what you can do

  710. verse 13

  711. I will lift up

  712. the cup of salvation

  713. and call on the name

  714. of the Lord

  715. what?

  716. oh

  717. here's what I do

  718. I go to God

  719. and I say

  720. hey

  721. you saved me

  722. didn't you?

  723. you love me

  724. don't you?

  725. well I'm going to

  726. call on your name

  727. and I'm going to

  728. ask for your help

  729. this week

  730. is that the response

  731. that he wants?

  732. surely

  733. he wants us to

  734. try harder

  735. be better

  736. keep more rules

  737. and he said

  738. no

  739. no

  740. don't be soft

  741. here's what I want

  742. you to do

  743. keep coming to me

  744. and saying

  745. Lord I can't keep it up

  746. can you help me?

  747. I'll never succeed

  748. by my own efforts

  749. will you help me?

  750. he loves

  751. nothing more

  752. than for one

  753. of his children

  754. to come to him

  755. and say

  756. I can't do this

  757. but you can

  758. please help

  759. we lift up

  760. the cup of salvation

  761. do you see what we do?

  762. we don't do anything

  763. we just ask for more help

  764. oh my gosh

  765. fancy the chance

  766. of going into

  767. a new week

  768. and saying

  769. keep helping me

  770. Lord please

  771. keep helping me

  772. I can't do it

  773. and he loves it

  774. he's waiting

  775. for you to ask

  776. there's not 15 things

  777. he wants you to fix

  778. it's a posture

  779. that says

  780. help me

  781. help me more

  782. than ever before

  783. and you see

  784. that unfolds

  785. for the rest

  786. of the passage

  787. how do you pay

  788. your vows

  789. to the Lord

  790. verse 14

  791. and repeat it

  792. in verse 18

  793. well this is how

  794. you do it

  795. verse 16

  796. you say

  797. Lord

  798. I'm your servant

  799. I'm your servant

  800. you've

  801. you've loosed

  802. my bonds

  803. do you see it

  804. in 16

  805. how do we go

  806. to the Lord

  807. for help

  808. we say

  809. Lord

  810. you took my

  811. chains off

  812. you set my

  813. heart free

  814. you gave me

  815. a new life

  816. in Christ

  817. what shall I do

  818. for you

  819. oh it's easy

  820. I come back to you

  821. and thank you

  822. for cutting my

  823. chains loose

  824. and I ask you

  825. to help me

  826. I lift up

  827. the cup of

  828. salvation

  829. Lord

  830. you took the

  831. chains off

  832. keep freeing me

  833. up please

  834. I can't do it

  835. without you

  836. this is the

  837. response of the

  838. Christian

  839. no vanity

  840. no hubris

  841. no arrogance

  842. no self-sufficiency

  843. complete dependency

  844. on the saviour

  845. who's listening

  846. and loving

  847. and yearning

  848. to be your

  849. greatest ally

  850. and friend

  851. in all your

  852. adversities this

  853. week

  854. I put it to you

  855. that Christians

  856. come to church

  857. to keep reminding

  858. themselves

  859. that this is

  860. life

  861. Satan himself

  862. will keep saying

  863. to you

  864. you're not good

  865. enough

  866. hopeless

  867. rubbish

  868. Christian

  869. nowhere near

  870. as good as

  871. him or her

  872. you're a

  873. disgrace

  874. you shouldn't

  875. be here next

  876. week

  877. give yourself

  878. a couple of

  879. weeks

  880. sort yourself

  881. out

  882. and then

  883. you might

  884. get a year

  885. ring from

  886. God

  887. the lie

  888. of hell

  889. it's the

  890. lie of hell

  891. your saviour

  892. wants you to

  893. come to him

  894. at all times

  895. whatever's going

  896. on

  897. because his

  898. love saved

  899. you and will

  900. continue

  901. to give you

  902. hope

  903. lift up the

  904. cup of salvation

  905. and say come

  906. again Lord

  907. come again

  908. I need you

  909. now

  910. I need you

  911. today

  912. that's what

  913. we offer

  914. him

  915. and in

  916. 17 he

  917. tells us

  918. it's called

  919. it a

  920. sacrifice

  921. of

  922. thanksgiving

  923. I'll offer

  924. to you

  925. a sacrifice

  926. of thanksgiving

  927. and note the

  928. words that come

  929. immediately

  930. afterwards

  931. do you see

  932. them

  933. and call

  934. on the

  935. name of

  936. the Lord

  937. it's the

  938. same thing

  939. for the

  940. third time

  941. it's going

  942. to God

  943. this week

  944. and saying

  945. Lord

  946. I'm giving

  947. you myself

  948. I can't

  949. do anything

  950. I'm not

  951. good enough

  952. I'm too

  953. prone

  954. to failure

  955. but I know

  956. this Lord

  957. I am

  958. thankful

  959. and I'm

  960. bringing myself

  961. to you

  962. again this

  963. week

  964. help me

  965. look after

  966. my kids

  967. properly

  968. help me

  969. respect my

  970. parents

  971. properly

  972. give me

  973. the best

  974. chance

  975. when no one's

  976. watching me

  977. to behave

  978. in ways

  979. that bring

  980. me joy

  981. because I

  982. know you

  983. want them

  984. but Lord

  985. I'm lifting

  986. myself up

  987. to you

  988. help me

  989. Lord

  990. I can't

  991. do it

  992. without you

  993. so I

  994. give myself

  995. to you

  996. this is how

  997. we thank

  998. him

  999. the total

  1000. absence

  1001. of vanity

  1002. and arrogance

  1003. that I can

  1004. make it

  1005. happen

  1006. and the

  1007. total

  1008. willingness

  1009. for him

  1010. in his

  1011. marvellous

  1012. love

  1013. in a way

  1014. that he

  1015. knows me

  1016. that no one

  1017. in the world

  1018. knows me

  1019. to work

  1020. with me

  1021. and to

  1022. change

  1023. me

  1024. this is

  1025. what Jesus

  1026. Christ

  1027. achieved

  1028. at Calvary

  1029. this is

  1030. what he

  1031. will do

  1032. this week

  1033. by his

  1034. spirit

  1035. in my

  1036. life

  1037. and yours

  1038. and this

  1039. is what

  1040. he knew

  1041. he would

  1042. achieve

  1043. on the

  1044. night

  1045. before

  1046. going to

  1047. the cross

  1048. as he

  1049. sang this

  1050. song

  1051. so that

  1052. we could

  1053. sing it

  1054. today

  1055. that's why

  1056. we sing

  1057. the psalm

  1058. today

  1059. and finally

  1060. look closely

  1061. please

  1062. at verse

  1063. one

  1064. and the

  1065. last

  1066. phrase

  1067. in verse

  1068. 19

  1069. if you

  1070. have

  1071. doubt

  1072. or

  1073. uncertain

  1074. that

  1075. this

  1076. can

  1077. be

  1078. the

  1079. meaning

  1080. of

  1081. this

  1082. psalm

  1083. well I

  1084. draw your

  1085. attention

  1086. to verse

  1087. one

  1088. which

  1089. starts

  1090. I love

  1091. the

  1092. Lord

  1093. we

  1094. meet in

  1095. church

  1096. on

  1097. Sunday

  1098. time

  1099. after

  1100. time

  1101. for

  1102. corporate

  1103. worship

  1104. that

  1105. the

  1106. believer

  1107. in

  1108. Jesus

  1109. might

  1110. walk

  1111. out

  1112. of

  1113. the

  1114. building

  1115. and put

  1116. their

  1117. head

  1118. on a

  1119. pillow

  1120. tonight

  1121. and be

  1122. able to

  1123. say

  1124. I love

  1125. the

  1126. Lord

  1127. and what

  1128. is the

  1129. last

  1130. phrase

  1131. in this

  1132. psalm

  1133. do you

  1134. see it

  1135. I

  1136. praise

  1137. the

  1138. Lord

  1139. the

  1140. truths

  1141. of the

  1142. gospel

  1143. are

  1144. meant

  1145. to

  1146. move

  1147. from

  1148. the

  1149. head

  1150. to

  1151. the

  1152. heart

  1153. so

  1154. that

  1155. your

  1156. heart

  1157. sings

  1158. for

  1159. joy

  1160. that

  1161. this

  1162. is

  1163. my

  1164. savior

  1165. and

  1166. onto

  1167. my

  1168. hands

  1169. that

  1170. changes

  1171. my

  1172. day

  1173. to

  1174. day

  1175. behavior

  1176. the

  1177. greatest

  1178. human

  1179. need

  1180. is

  1181. love

  1182. and

  1183. the

  1184. greatest

  1185. love

  1186. is

  1187. captured

  1188. in

  1189. this

  1190. psalm

  1191. by

  1192. the

  1193. savior

  1194. of

  1195. ultimate

  1196. love

  1197. who

  1198. paid

  1199. my

  1200. penalty

  1201. and

  1202. will

  1203. never

  1204. stop

  1205. loving

  1206. me

  1207. this

  1208. is

  1209. the

  1210. Christian

  1211. hope

  1212. this

  1213. is

  1214. the

  1215. Christian

  1216. life

  1217. may

  1218. it

  1219. be

  1220. your

  1221. experience

  1222. even

  1223. tonight

  1224. as a

  1225. result

  1226. of the

  1227. marvelous

  1228. Lord

  1229. Jesus

  1230. Christ

  1231. and his

  1232. commitment

  1233. to you

  1234. and to

  1235. I

  1236. Amen

  1237. well thank

  1238. you Graham

  1239. for that

  1240. wonderful

  1241. reminder

  1242. of

  1243. the love

  1244. the Lord

  1245. has for

  1246. us

  1247. and what

  1248. better way

  1249. to finish

  1250. our service

  1251. and to

  1252. sing

  1253. some

  1254. verses

  1255. from

  1256. this

  1257. psalm

  1258. psalm

  1259. 116

  1260. we're

  1261. going

  1262. to

  1263. sing

  1264. from

  1265. verse

  1266. 1

  1267. down

  1268. to

  1269. verse

  1270. 9

  1271. it's

  1272. a

  1273. sing

  1274. psalms

  1275. version

  1276. you'll

  1277. find

  1278. this

  1279. on

  1286. psalm

  1287. 116

  1288. we're

  1289. going

  1290. to

  1291. sing

  1292. verse

  1293. 1

  1294. to

  1295. 9

  1296. I

  1297. love

  1298. the

  1299. Lord

  1300. because

  1301. he

  1302. heard

  1303. my

  1304. voice

  1305. and

  1306. listened

  1307. when

  1308. I

  1309. cried

  1310. to

  1311. him

  1312. for

  1313. aid

  1314. I'll

  1315. call

  1316. on

  1317. him

  1318. as

  1319. long

  1320. as

  1321. I

  1322. prayed

  1323. we

  1324. stand

  1325. to

  1326. sing

  1327. from

  1328. verse

  1329. 1

  1330. to

  1331. 9

  1332. to

  1333. God's

  1334. please

  1335. him

  1336. as

  1337. long

  1338. as

  1339. I

  1340. shall

  1341. live

  1342. because

  1343. he

  1344. turned

  1345. to

  1346. hear

  1347. me

  1348. when

  1349. I

  1350. pray

  1351. the

  1352. hearts

  1353. of

  1354. death

  1355. let

  1356. down

  1357. let

  1358. handle

  1359. me

1408. And may we be able to go away from here

1409. With that sense of praise to you

1410. That you remember us in all our needs

1411. And that you will remember us

1412. Even in this week ahead

1413. As we put our trust in you

1414. So may you guide us then by your spirit

1415. We ask your blessing now on us

1416. That grace, mercy and peace

1417. From God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit
