  1. Let's turn again to the chapter we read, John's Gospel, chapter 7, and we're not going to read it from verse 37 to the end.

  2. It's quite a large section.

  3. Just to read the start of it,

  4. On the last day of the feast, the great day, Jesus stood up and cried out,

  5. If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.

  6. And so on.

  7. I want us to consider this whole section.

  8. Now, the verse begins by saying,

  9. On the last day of the feast.

  10. And there's always a last day.

  11. There's a last day to everything.

  12. And sometimes there's a last day to good things.

  13. There's a last day to bad things.

  14. And I know that sometimes when we're, say, for instance, you're on a holiday and you're really enjoying the holiday and it's come to the last day,

  15. you're saying, oh, man, I wish we could get a few more days.

  16. And then there are other times we're so thankful when the last day comes.

  17. I know the young folk are going through their exams just now and I think back and I still remember the feeling of when it was the last day of the exams.

  18. The sense of relief.

  19. Glad that's passed.

  20. So that's how life is at our times.

  21. We're glad of the last day.

  22. Sometimes we're sad about the last day.

  23. Well, here we have the last day of the feast.

  24. And it's one of the great statements of the Lord Jesus.

  25. And again, when you think of the last day, it's one of the things that we will find very hard to understand about glory is that there won't be last days.

  26. It is perpetual glory.

  27. Because our world is so governed by our 24-hour period of our days and our nights.

  28. But we're told that there shall be no night there.

  29. It's going to be a totally different type of order.

  30. And there won't be a last day of anything bad.

  31. It will be everything will always be good.

  32. And it's very hard for us just to lay hold upon how transformational that is going to be.

  33. The very thought of what glory is.

  34. But here is this feast, the Feast of Booths or the Feast of Tabernacles.

  35. It was known by both names.

  36. And it was held from the 15th to the 21st or the 22nd.

  37. From the 15th to the 21st of the 7th month.

  38. And that would be our October.

  39. It was the time when the harvest was over.

  40. And it was a great time of celebration for the Jews.

  41. Because in this Feast of Booths or Tabernacles, what they did was,

  42. there was a great, they would be congregating in Jerusalem.

  43. There would be a lot of strangers, a lot of visitors, a lot of pilgrims.

  44. And they would build little leafy shelters or little leafy booths.

  45. And they would have them on the streets, in the marketplace, on the flat roof, tops of houses, all over.

  46. And it was a time for reminding them of their journey through the wilderness

  47. and of God helping them and taking them through.

  48. And so it was also a time where they were thanking God for the harvest.

  49. The toil, the labor was over.

  50. And it was a time of celebration.

  51. It was a great time.

  52. So this is what we find here at this particular time.

  53. And it's interesting that one of the pictures that were given in Revelation

  54. of the saints in glory with palm branches in their hands.

  55. And it might even be a little glimpse, a little reminder

  56. of the very time of celebrating all that God has done,

  57. of all the toil, of all the labor, of all these things now in the past.

  58. But anyway, the Lord of the harvest will gather every single individual

  59. that has trusted in him from the four corners of this earth.

  60. Not one will be missing.

  61. They will all be gathered in from north, south, east, and west

  62. into the eternal joy of the Lord.

  63. So we find Jesus who's come to the feast.

  64. And here he is in the temple on the very last day.

  65. And he cries out in order for everybody to hear.

  66. But this moment is actually quite an extraordinary moment

  67. because it is a moment of fulfillment of prophecy.

  68. Because if we had gone back to the prophecy of Haggai,

  69. we find that the Lord came to the prophet Haggai.

  70. And the issue that the Lord was bringing before the people at that time

  71. was what they weren't doing.

  72. Because Haggai is prophesying to the exiles

  73. that have returned from Babylon, from the captivity.

  74. And when they were released from Babylon,

  75. of course many of them were new, they were born in captivity,

  76. but there were some who had, it was a 70-year period, the exile.

  77. There were some of them who had been taken when they were young into exile

  78. and now they were back again.

  79. And initially there was incredible excitement

  80. and thrill to be back in their own land.

  81. And they began to build, rebuild the temple

  82. and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem.

  83. But they had begun to slacken off.

  84. They began to become more concerned about their own projects,

  85. their own buildings.

  86. And so Haggai was sent to sort of stir them up again

  87. to get going with the rebuilding of the temple.

  88. And the problem with some of the older people was this,

  89. that they could remember the old temple,

  90. which was the most magnificent structure.

  91. It was absolutely amazing building.

  92. And of course it had been destroyed, completely flattened.

  93. And as they were looking at this new temple being built,

  94. they were saying to themselves,

  95. oh, this is nothing.

  96. The glory of this is absolutely nothing compared

  97. to the glory of the former temple.

  98. And so they were very downhearted about it all.

  99. But Haggai comes with a message to them.

  100. And this is what he says.

  101. God is saying this,

  102. the latter glory of this temple

  103. shall be greater than the former,

  104. says the Lord of hosts.

  105. And in this place I will give peace.

  106. Now, what's remarkable about this prophecy is

  107. that it tells us in the book of Haggai

  108. that the very date that the Lord spoke to Haggai

  109. to go and to stand at the temple

  110. and to address the people

  111. was on the 21st day of the seventh month.

  112. Roll forward 500 plus years,

  113. and here is Jesus

  114. who is the Prince of Peace,

  115. who is the God-Man

  116. who has come to bring peace on earth.

  117. Here he is

  118. on that very same day

  119. all these centuries later.

  120. And he is fulfilling that prophecy

  121. because the Lord says,

  122. in this place I will give peace.

  123. And here stands Jesus

  124. 500 plus years later

  125. to the very day.

  126. And he is,

  127. he is the man of peace.

  128. He is the Prince of Peace.

  129. It's a pinpoint prophetic accuracy.

  130. And so we find that Jesus

  131. on this last day,

  132. and this was a great day,

  133. this was the final day,

  134. and at this particular time

  135. there would be the pouring of the water

  136. from the pools of Siloam.

  137. It was a hive of activity.

  138. It was really busy.

  139. And Jesus,

  140. as often Jesus did,

  141. used and illustrated

  142. from what was taking place around him.

  143. And there's the water

  144. being poured out

  145. from the pools of Siloam.

  146. He uses the illustration of water.

  147. And he gives this cry.

  148. It wasn't just,

  149. he didn't just speak.

  150. Often Jesus spoke.

  151. But on this occasion,

  152. it tells us,

  153. Jesus stood up and cried out.

  154. There was urgency in the cry.

  155. There would be emotion in the cry.

  156. There would be pity in the cry.

  157. There would be pleading in the cry.

  158. It would have been a powerful moment.

  159. And he's saying,

  160. if anyone thirst,

  161. let him come to me and drink.

  162. I've got to ask the question

  163. before we move on.

  164. Have you come?

  165. Have you come,

  166. or are you still stalling?

  167. Are you still bargaining with God?

  168. Are you still holding back?

  169. Are there things still in the way?

  170. Or have you come?

  171. Because you see,

  172. while the cry is being made still today,

  173. the authority of God grants us

  174. that we are able to bring out

  175. this beautiful, wonderful gospel

  176. to people.

  177. There's going to come a day,

  178. there'll be a last day,

  179. for this invitation to be given as well.

  180. Thankfully, it's not today.

  181. But it might be tomorrow.

  182. We don't know.

  183. So it is imperative

  184. that we listen to the cry of Jesus,

  185. where he's saying,

  186. if anyone thirst,

  187. let him come to me and to drink.

  188. And you'll notice how wide

  189. that invitation is.

  190. Because it says,

  191. if anyone,

  192. anyone.

  193. There are no exclusion zones here.

  194. It doesn't matter a person's racial identity.

  195. It doesn't matter a person's social standing.

  196. It doesn't matter a person's culture.

  197. It doesn't matter a person's religion or creed.

  198. It doesn't matter.

  199. There's nothing indicated.

  200. It's for everybody.

  201. This invitation goes out to all,

  202. to everybody who hears it.

  203. Everybody who hears,

  204. this is a cry that is issuing out from the Savior.

  205. If anyone thirsts,

  206. let him come to me and drink.

  207. It's an invitation to the anxious.

  208. If you're today and you're anxious in life,

  209. and you find that life is becoming challenging and difficult,

  210. and you're not coping,

  211. Jesus is saying,

  212. look,

  213. come to me.

  214. I will give you a peace.

  215. I will give you a,

  216. I will bring a composure and a calmness into your life

  217. because of who I am.

  218. When Jesus gives us his peace,

  219. it's not like

  220. that he has compartments with different things,

  221. that there's peace and there's joy

  222. and there's things.

  223. When Jesus gives peace,

  224. it's giving of himself through the Spirit

  225. because he is all these things.

  226. So it is a communication by the Spirit

  227. of who Jesus is to ourselves.

  228. And he brings a purpose and a meaning into life.

  229. You might be finding life absolutely empty just now.

  230. And there have been times when life has been fulfilling,

  231. times you've been excited in life,

  232. times you've felt satisfied,

  233. but it's not there.

  234. Because you see,

  235. it's like everybody's given a bucket at the beginning of life,

  236. and there you go,

  237. fill that bucket with whatever.

  238. Well,

  239. if we do not have Christ,

  240. it's like trying to fill a bucket with a hole in it.

  241. And you know that's an impossibility.

  242. You try and fill a bucket full of water and there's a hole.

  243. It doesn't matter how often it reaches up to the brim,

  244. it continues to seep out.

  245. And that's how it is in life.

  246. Because there are times,

  247. there are periods you may feel satisfied,

  248. your things are going well.

  249. But if all that we look for is in this life,

  250. it'll never ultimately satisfy.

  251. It can satisfy for a while,

  252. but then there's always something else.

  253. It's easier to catch the wind and keep it

  254. than find our full satisfaction and fulfillment

  255. just in life itself.

  256. And that's why Jesus is saying,

  257. look,

  258. you need me.

  259. And it's obvious because there's,

  260. as the old people used to say,

  261. there's a God-shaped void in the heart of every person.

  262. Because God made us.

  263. That's the way he made us.

  264. There's a God-shaped void.

  265. And it can,

  266. we can never get that ultimate fulfillment and satisfaction

  267. until the Lord takes over in our life.

  268. He's the missing piece.

  269. And once he's there,

  270. it all changes.

  271. And may I say,

  272. if there's anybody here today

  273. who might be in the bracket of the careless and indifferent,

  274. and you might be saying to yourself,

  275. oh,

  276. well,

  277. I wouldn't be in church if I'm careless and indifferent.

  278. Well,

  279. thank the Lord you are.

  280. And don't stop coming.

  281. Because this is where so many people come to faith.

  282. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.

  283. But you see,

  284. you can,

  285. you can come to church out of habit,

  286. out of duty.

  287. That's good.

  288. Please don't change that habit or duty.

  289. But that's as far as it goes.

  290. And the preaching and all that,

  291. it just flies over your head.

  292. In one ear,

  293. out the other.

  294. It's out there.

  295. It's got no relevance.

  296. It's for other people.

  297. It's not for you.

  298. No,

  299. it's for you.

  300. It's for you today.

  301. This is the word of the Lord.

  302. And he's speaking to each and every one of us this day.

  303. And he's saying to you,

  304. you're going in the wrong direction.

  305. The road you're leading on will bring you to death,

  306. eternal death.

  307. So you see,

  308. Christ is our only answer in life.

  309. So Jesus gives this great cry,

  310. if anyone thirst,

  311. let him come to me and drink.

  312. And of course,

  313. specifically,

  314. he's saying,

  315. if anyone thirsts.

  316. And that,

  317. above all,

  318. is thirsting for gospel blessing.

  319. Thirsting for Christ.

  320. And maybe there's somebody here today,

  321. and you are saying that,

  322. you know this,

  323. I would love to be a Christian.

  324. And I've wanted to be a Christian for a long time.

  325. Well,

  326. come.

  327. Come to Christ.

  328. If you're,

  329. naturally speaking,

  330. if you're really thirsty,

  331. what do you do?

  332. You don't start telling people,

  333. oh,

  334. you know,

  335. I'm really,

  336. really thirsty.

  337. You don't speak to yourself saying,

  338. oh,

  339. I would give anything for a drink.

  340. I'm so thirsty.

  341. No,

  342. you get up and you go

  343. to where you can get something for that thirst.

  344. And so it is today,

  345. today,

  346. if you are thirsty,

  347. if you're wanting Christ,

  348. go to him.

  349. Don't just sit there saying,

  350. well,

  351. you know,

  352. that's the way I am.

  353. Do something about it.

  354. Go to him and say,

  355. Lord,

  356. come into my heart,

  357. come into my life.

  358. And you know this,

  359. the Lord will not refuse.

  360. If you're serious about it,

  361. he will not refuse.

  362. Sometimes the journey takes a wee while,

  363. but guaranteed,

  364. if you're sincerely asking the Lord,

  365. he will come in.

  366. And he will give that,

  367. he will give that,

  368. as it says,

  369. whoever believes him,

  370. as the scripture said,

  371. out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.

  372. Just as Jesus was saying to the woman at the well of Samaria,

  373. I know that the water that he would give would be spring up,

  374. this water show of everlasting life,

  375. that the satisfaction that you will get in Christ Jesus surpasses nothing else.

  376. Guaranteed.

  377. It grants you a peace,

  378. a purpose,

  379. a meaning,

  380. a hope.

  381. Do you know,

  382. there's so much despair in this life.

  383. So many people today,

  384. they feel utterly hopeless.

  385. Look around and they say,

  386. what's the point?

  387. When the Lord comes into your life,

  388. it changes your perspective.

  389. It changes.

  390. And even if you're looking at things,

  391. and they are often grim,

  392. there's still a hope burning in your heart for better days.

  393. You know how it's going to end.

  394. And that's important.

  395. How things end,

  396. that's really important.

  397. And if you're a Christian,

  398. you know it's going to end well.

  399. So I would urge you today

  400. that you would go to the Lord

  401. who will give to you like nobody else can.

  402. Now,

  403. Jesus goes on to say,

  404. for as yet,

  405. he's talking in verse 39,

  406. now he said this about the Spirit,

  407. whom those who believed in him were to receive.

  408. For as yet,

  409. the Spirit had not been given

  410. because Jesus was not glorified.

  411. Now,

  412. that doesn't mean that the Holy Spirit

  413. wasn't ministering

  414. at this particular time.

  415. Right throughout the whole of the Old Testament,

  416. from the very beginning,

  417. the Holy Spirit was at work.

  418. And the Holy Spirit enabled

  419. every Old Testament believer

  420. to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  421. And they saw the Christ who was to come

  422. in the same way as

  423. they looked forward

  424. and believed in the Christ to come.

  425. We look back

  426. and we believe in the Christ who has come.

  427. But the Holy Spirit was working.

  428. But what Jesus is talking about here is

  429. that the Holy Spirit

  430. was going to come

  431. in a new power

  432. after he had gone to the cross,

  433. died,

  434. risen,

  435. and ascended into heaven.

  436. And we see the display of that

  437. in the book of Acts

  438. in Pentecost.

  439. And we live in these times

  440. where we live

  441. in these particular times.

  442. And so,

  443. from verse 40 then

  444. to verse 44,

  445. we find

  446. there's a real division

  447. among the people.

  448. some are persuaded

  449. that he is Christ.

  450. But others are saying,

  451. no,

  452. he can't be the Christ

  453. because

  454. he's a Galilee man.

  455. He's from Galilee.

  456. And the Bible

  457. makes it very clear

  458. that

  459. the Messiah,

  460. the Christ,

  461. is to

  462. be of the

  463. seed of David.

  464. And David was a Bethlehem boy.

  465. David came from Bethlehem.

  466. And so the Scripture

  467. is quite clear

  468. that the Messiah,

  469. that the Christ,

  470. is to come

  471. from Bethlehem.

  472. He's to be born

  473. in Bethlehem.

  474. And see the trouble

  475. that little knowledge

  476. causes.

  477. Everybody,

  478. or not everybody,

  479. but most of the people

  480. were absolutely

  481. persuaded

  482. that Jesus

  483. was a Nazareth

  484. person.

  485. Born and bred.

  486. Well,

  487. we know he wasn't.

  488. He was brought up

  489. in Nazareth.

  490. But he wasn't born there.

  491. If they had taken

  492. the trouble

  493. to really find out

  494. where was Jesus born,

  495. it would have changed

  496. everything.

  497. The chief priests,

  498. the Pharisees,

  499. the scribes,

  500. all these people

  501. who were opposed

  502. to Christ

  503. and saw him

  504. as the ultimate

  505. blasphemer,

  506. if only they had

  507. taken the trouble

  508. to go and find

  509. out the facts.

  510. Find out

  511. where Jesus

  512. was born.

  513. that would have

  514. changed their

  515. whole perspective.

  516. But they didn't.

  517. Because they assumed

  518. that they had seen

  519. him grow up

  520. from the time

  521. as a little baby

  522. in Nazareth

  523. that he was born there.

  524. And you know,

  525. so often in life

  526. problems arise

  527. because we don't

  528. know the facts.

  529. We assume we do.

  530. We don't know

  531. the bottom line.

  532. We put two

  533. and two together

  534. and often arrive

  535. at three.

  536. And there are

  537. problems in the home,

  538. problems in families,

  539. problems at work,

  540. problems in the community,

  541. problems in the church

  542. because people

  543. haven't got

  544. all the facts.

  545. And you see

  546. the huge problem

  547. that was caused here

  548. just because of this.

  549. So there was

  550. this division

  551. among the people.

  552. But there was

  553. one group above all

  554. that were utterly

  555. and altogether

  556. convinced that Christ

  557. was the ultimate

  558. blasphemer

  559. and that was

  560. the chief priests,

  561. the Pharisees.

  562. They were on

  563. one mission

  564. he has to be destroyed.

  565. He is the ultimate

  566. blasphemer.

  567. And so they send

  568. people out

  569. to arrest him.

  570. Verse 45

  571. tells us

  572. they came back

  573. without Christ.

  574. Why did you not

  575. bring him in?

  576. Verse 46.

  577. No one

  578. ever spoke

  579. like this man.

  580. What a truth

  581. they spoke.

  582. Instead of them

  583. arresting Christ,

  584. Christ's words

  585. arrested them.

  586. they fell

  587. under the spell

  588. maybe I shouldn't

  589. put it that way

  590. of the word

  591. of Christ

  592. because they saw

  593. they saw

  594. this isn't

  595. an ordinary man.

  596. Remember in

  597. Matthew's gospel

  598. it tells us

  599. something similar.

  600. They were astonished

  601. at his doctrine

  602. because he taught

  603. us one having

  604. authority

  605. not as a scribe.

  606. And of course

  607. the words

  608. of Jesus Christ

  609. are different

  610. to any other

  611. words.

  612. Because when we

  613. think

  614. who is

  615. Jesus Christ?

  616. Who is

  617. the Son of God?

  618. Well we're told

  619. very simply

  620. he is the creator

  621. of this world.

  622. The God

  623. man

  624. before

  625. he took

  626. human nature

  627. he was at the

  628. very center

  629. of the creation.

  630. His word

  631. brought everything

  632. into being.

  633. the great galaxies

  634. the sun

  635. the moon

  636. the planets

  637. great mountain

  638. ranges

  639. the sea

  640. animals

  641. humans

  642. because we're

  643. told in the

  644. scripture

  645. that

  646. for by

  647. him

  648. were all

  649. things

  650. created.

  651. No wonder

  652. they said

  653. nobody ever

  654. spoke like him.

  655. His words

  656. had power

  657. they had meaning

  658. they had reality

  659. and these are

  660. the same words

  661. that we are

  662. dealing with today

  663. the words

  664. of Jesus

  665. Christ.

  666. He has power

  667. over the world

  668. of the demonic.

  669. Satan has to

  670. submit

  671. to the authority

  672. and the power

  673. of Christ.

  674. He has power

  675. over death

  676. over spiritual

  677. death

  678. and that's the way

  679. we are by nature

  680. we're all born

  681. that's

  682. that's the way

  683. we're naturally

  684. formed

  685. but we're

  686. spiritually dead.

  687. That's why

  688. we can sit

  689. in church

  690. for years.

  691. Hearing

  692. preaching

  693. that is

  694. condemning

  695. our soul

  696. to hell

  697. and it means

  698. absolutely

  699. nothing

  700. or we can

  701. hear the sweet

  702. invitations

  703. of Jesus

  704. promising us

  705. endless glory

  706. and it still

  707. means nothing.

  708. It just

  709. drifts by

  710. because we're

  711. spiritually

  712. dead

  713. and only

  714. the Lord

  715. can bring

  716. spiritual

  717. life

  718. and every

  719. one of you

  720. today

  721. who has

  722. come to

  723. faith

  724. it is

  725. because

  726. of the

  727. word

  728. of Christ.

  729. He has

  730. spoken

  731. into your

  732. heart.

  733. You received

  734. him.

  735. You believed.

  736. You cried

  737. to him.

  738. You called

  739. to him.

  740. You believed.

  741. And so

  742. he is the one

  743. who brings

  744. life.

  745. Brings

  746. life spiritually

  747. and we know

  748. that he has

  749. power over

  750. death even

  751. physically as

  752. we saw

  753. in the

  754. raising of

  755. Lazarus from

  756. the dead

  757. and Jairus'

  758. daughter.

  759. But nobody

  760. ever spoke

  761. like Jesus.

  762. And how

  763. wonderful that

  764. is.

  765. When you

  766. and I

  767. when we

  768. sin

  769. when we're

  770. aware of

  771. how far

  772. short we've

  773. gone

  774. sin can

  775. often trouble

  776. us.

  777. But you

  778. know rather

  779. than drive

  780. us away

  781. it should

  782. drive us

  783. to Christ.

  784. They

  785. meant it

  786. by way

  787. of condemnation

  788. but what a

  789. truth they

  790. spoke.

  791. This man

  792. receives

  793. sinners

  794. and eats

  795. with them.

  796. I love

  797. that.

  798. That's a

  799. Jesus who

  800. today is

  801. calling you.

  802. He receives

  803. sinners.

  804. Wouldn't it

  805. be awful

  806. if it said

  807. he receives

  808. those who

  809. have reformed.

  810. Those who

  811. have turned

  812. their back

  813. upon.

  814. Those who

  815. have tried

  816. their best

  817. to sort

  818. themselves out

  819. and doesn't

  820. say anything

  821. of that.

  822. Receive

  823. sinners

  824. just as

  825. you are.

  826. Warts and

  827. all.

  828. All the

  829. baggage of

  830. the past.

  831. He says

  832. come on

  833. I'll receive

  834. you.

  835. There's nothing

  836. to stop you.

  837. So it's

  838. important to

  839. realize this.

  840. And he is

  841. the one

  842. who forgives.

  843. I even

  844. I am he

  845. that blotteth

  846. without thy

  847. transgressions

  848. and will

  849. not remember

  850. thine iniquities.

  851. Isn't that

  852. beautiful?

  853. Jesus is the

  854. one who

  855. says to us

  856. today when

  857. we're troubled

  858. and burdened

  859. in life

  860. he says

  861. come to me

  862. all you

  863. who are

  864. laboring

  865. and burdened

  866. and I'll

  867. give you

  868. rest.

  869. To all of

  870. your sorrowing

  871. maybe today

  872. your hearts

  873. are sore

  874. I will not

  875. leave you

  876. comfortless

  877. I will

  878. come to

  879. you.

  880. No man

  881. ever spoke

  882. like this

  883. man.

  884. In

  885. conclusion

  886. we see

  887. one thing

  888. here amongst

  889. all the

  890. voices

  891. condemning

  892. Jesus

  893. there was

  894. one lone

  895. voice

  896. a voice

  897. of reason

  898. and that

  899. voice

  900. of reason

  901. was the

  902. voice of

  903. Nicodemus.

  904. Nicodemus

  905. verse 50

  906. who had

  907. gone to

  908. him before

  909. and who

  910. was one

  911. of them

  912. that is

  913. one of

  914. the Pharisees

  915. said to

  916. them

  917. does

  918. our

  919. Lord

  920. judge

  921. a man

  922. without

  923. first

  924. giving

  925. him a

  926. hearing

  927. and

  928. learning

  929. what

  930. he

  931. does.

  932. Nicodemus

  933. is trying

  934. to say

  935. look

  936. we've

  937. got to

  938. hear

  939. what

  940. Jesus

  941. Nicodemus

  942. is here

  943. in the

  944. defense

  945. of

  946. Jesus.

  947. Now

  948. Nicodemus

  949. was on

  950. a journey

  951. and we've

  952. got to

  953. remember

  954. that for

  955. different

  956. people

  957. some

  958. people

  959. will walk

  960. into

  961. church

  962. and they're

  963. converted

  964. like that

  965. other

  966. people

  967. the journey

  968. takes a

  969. while

  970. took a

  971. while

  972. for

  973. Nicodemus

  974. and Nicodemus

  975. remember

  976. the night

  977. when he

  978. had to

  979. go to

  980. see

  981. of course

  982. it was

  983. under

  984. the cover

  985. of

  986. darkness

  987. because

  988. if the

  989. Pharisees

  990. discovered

  991. that he

  992. was

  993. identifying

  994. with

  995. Jesus

  996. he'd

  997. have

  998. been

  999. thrown

  1000. out

  1001. and a lot

  1002. of the

  1003. Pharisees

  1004. were

  1005. were

  1006. sort of

  1007. drawn to

  1008. Jesus

  1009. but they

  1010. loved the

  1011. praise of

  1012. men more

  1013. than the

  1014. praise of

  1015. God

  1016. so they

  1017. didn't want

  1018. to lose

  1019. their

  1020. privileges

  1021. they didn't

  1022. want to lose

  1023. their honor

  1024. but

  1025. Nicodemus

  1026. he went

  1027. to Jesus

  1028. under the

  1029. cover of

  1030. darkness

  1031. remember

  1032. Jesus said

  1033. you must

  1034. be born

  1035. again

  1036. you're a

  1037. student of

  1038. the law

  1039. Nicodemus

  1040. do you not

  1041. understand

  1042. these things

  1043. and Nicodemus

  1044. didn't

  1045. but the

  1046. work had

  1047. begun

  1048. and here's

  1049. now a

  1050. wee while

  1051. forward

  1052. and Nicodemus

  1053. is now

  1054. trying to

  1055. speak

  1056. on behalf

  1057. of Jesus

  1058. a wee while

  1059. later

  1060. we will

  1061. find that

  1062. Nicodemus

  1063. comes fully

  1064. out on

  1065. the side

  1066. of Jesus

  1067. more so

  1068. than Peter

  1069. more so

  1070. than James

  1071. Nicodemus

  1072. remember

  1073. joined

  1074. Joseph of

  1075. Arimathea

  1076. in the

  1077. burial

  1078. of Jesus

  1079. he was

  1080. ready to

  1081. lose all

  1082. that he

  1083. had

  1084. all the

  1085. privileges

  1086. all the

  1087. honor in

  1088. this world

  1089. because he

  1090. had completely

  1091. sided with

  1092. Jesus

  1093. I hope

  1094. you're on

  1095. a journey

  1096. might be

  1097. taking a

  1098. while

  1099. but I

  1100. pray you're

  1101. on that

  1102. journey

  1103. because if

  1104. you are on

  1105. that journey

  1106. it will end

  1107. well

  1108. you make

  1109. sure

  1110. that you're

  1111. seeking

  1112. Jesus

  1113. and that

  1114. you listen

  1115. to his

  1116. call today

  1117. where he's

  1118. saying

  1119. come

  1120. to me

  1121. let us

  1122. pray

  1123. Lord our

  1124. God we

  1125. pray to

  1126. bless us

  1127. we give

  1128. thanks for

  1129. your word

  1130. a challenge

  1131. to us

  1132. an invitation

  1133. to us

  1134. and we

  1135. pray that

  1136. we will

  1137. have the

  1138. grace to

  1139. obey what

  1140. you're

  1141. requiring

  1142. of us

  1143. grant us

  1144. because

  1145. help us

  1146. to realize

  1147. that we

  1148. cannot

  1149. our

  1150. shells

  1151. but that

  1152. we can

  1153. come to

  1154. you

  1155. and truly

  1156. seek

  1157. and you

  1158. will indeed

  1159. do the

  1160. work

  1161. you will

  1162. do what's

  1163. necessary

  1164. for us

  1165. bless us

  1166. we pray

  1167. part us

  1168. with your

  1169. blessing

  1170. take us

  1171. to our

  1172. home safely

  1173. forgiving sin

  1174. in Jesus

  1175. name

  1176. amen

  1177. we're going

  1178. to conclude

  1179. singing in

  1180. psalm 63

  1181. the 63rd

  1182. psalm

  1183. and we're

  1184. going to

  1185. sing

  1186. it's a

  1187. scottish

  1188. psalter

  1189. and we're

  1190. going to

  1191. sing

  1192. verses 1

  1193. to 5

  1194. psalm 63

  1195. scottish

  1196. psalter

  1197. verses 1

  1198. to 5

  1207. doth

  1208. thirst

  1209. for thee

  1210. my

  1211. flesh

  1212. longs

  1213. in a

  1214. dry

  1215. parched

  1216. land

  1217. wherein

  1218. no

  1219. waters

  1220. be

  1221. that

  1222. i

  1223. thy

  1224. power

  1225. may

  1226. behold

  1227. and

  1228. brightness

  1229. of thy

  1230. face

  1231. as i

  1232. have

  1233. seen

  1234. thee

  1235. heretofore

  1236. within

  1237. thy

  1238. holy

  1239. place

  1240. since

  1241. better

  1242. is

  1243. thy

  1244. love

  1245. than

  1246. life

  1247. my

  1248. lips

  1249. thee

  1250. praise

  1251. shall

  1252. give

  1253. i

  1254. in

  1255. thy

  1256. name

  1257. will

  1258. lift

  1259. my

  1260. hands

  1261. and

  1262. bless

  1263. thee

  1264. while

  1265. i

  1271. lord

  1272. thee

  1274. god

  1275. i

  1277. seek

  1278. for

  1279. thee

  1289. for

  1290. thee

  1291. my

  1325. within

  1326. thy

  1327. holy

  1328. place
