  1. We can turn back to our reading in the book of Revelation, chapter 21.

    Revelation 21 chapter mention

  2. ! We can read again at verse 3.

  3. ! Verse 3 to verse 5 will be our main focus this evening.

  4. Revelation 21 at verse 3.

  5. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,

  6. Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man.

  7. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people.

  8. And God himself will be with them as their God.

  9. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.

  10. Neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain any more,

  11. for the former things have passed away.

  12. And he who was seated on the throne said,

  13. Behold, I am making all things new.

  14. Also he said, Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.

  15. Are you someone who browses property websites when you see a house for sale?

  16. Looking at it and thinking, I wonder what it's like.

  17. Perhaps you've seen a house advertised for sale as you've been driving past,

  18. and you want to know a bit more about it.

  19. How big's the garden out the back?

  20. What's it like inside?

  21. Maybe especially if you know the people who were living in it.

  22. You're wondering about it.

  23. And especially maybe, how much?

  24. How much is it being sold for?

  25. Why do we do that?

  26. Curiosity?

  27. Or maybe we're just nosy.

  28. We just like to know what that place is like.

  29. How much it's being sold for.

  30. Maybe you are interested in buying it.

  31. Maybe you want to show an interest in it that way.

  32. But very often it's just a case of, I just want to see what it's like.

  33. I've done it myself.

  34. I'm sure many of you have as well.

  35. But what about when it comes to inquiring about our eternal home,

  36. our eternal dwelling?

  37. Have you looked into that?

  38. Have you had any thoughts of what kind of place it is?

  39. What it will be like?

  40. Will it be worth going there?

  41. How do I get there?

  42. How much does it cost?

  43. Because here in the book of Revelation,

  44. we find for us an insight into what that place will be like.

  45. We see who will be there.

  46. We see a little of what it will be like.

  47. What kind of place it will be.

  48. And it will be our eternal home.

  49. Our everlasting home.

  50. And how interested are we in that compared to the homes in which we have in this world?

  51. You could say it's described in two main ways for us.

  52. As we look at the forever home, as we could call it.

  53. Two different ways we could describe it.

  54. Not in terms of what it looks like,

  55. but more who will be there.

  56. And especially as we look at it this evening,

  57. we see is God the one that we are looking for?

  58. Because our everlasting home will be one of two different kinds.

  59. A place with God

  60. or a place without God.

  61. That's the way it's described.

  62. It's described in this chapter itself as well.

  63. A place with God

  64. or a place without God.

  65. As we're looking at it this evening,

  66. we want to think about it in that way of a place with God.

  67. God's presence is a wonderful thing.

  68. And it's to have that promise.

  69. We have that promise so often through Scripture

  70. that God will be with his people.

  71. That he is with us always.

  72. But how much do we look for that presence?

  73. How much do we long for that presence?

  74. How much do we always want to know God with us?

  75. Well, if we do.

  76. If we have God as our hope and God as our trust,

  77. putting our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ,

  78. we have this hope that at the end of the day,

  79. we will be with him forever.

  80. As Psalm 23 says,

  81. For in God's house forevermore

  82. my dwelling place shall be.

  83. When you consider God's presence,

  84. God's promises in that way of being with his people

  85. in the Old and in the New Testament,

  86. very often as you look at them,

  87. there's a sense of there's more to come.

  88. There's more ahead for us.

  89. And here in the book of Revelation,

  90. we are given an insight into what that more is.

  91. Because as you look through the Old and the New Testament,

  92. you find that where he is with his people,

  93. there is sin,

  94. there is falling away from God,

  95. there is chaos,

  96. there is destruction,

  97. there are all of these things that spoil that relationship with God.

  98. But we are thankful that there is more to come.

  99. The finale,

  100. if you like.

  101. And yet,

  102. as we look at it here in Revelation,

  103. it still really is incomplete to us,

  104. because John,

  105. who wrote this,

  106. couldn't even describe it in a way

  107. that we could fully understand and appreciate.

  108. He was trying to describe the things that he was seeing

  109. as you read on into the latter part of the chapter,

  110. the walls,

  111. the gates,

  112. all of these things,

  113. they're described with precious jewels and pearls and gold

  114. and all of these things.

  115. It's remarkable how it's described.

  116. And yet we can't fully appreciate it.

  117. Neither could John himself.

  118. But what we have is an insight into a place we should long to be,

  119. and a place that we are looking at

  120. with eyes of faith through Jesus Christ.

  121. So we have that hope.

  122. The book of Revelation as a whole is

  123. maybe sometimes a difficult book to follow.

  124. It has many visions and symbolisms

  125. that are often difficult for us to understand.

  126. And sometimes we can just maybe shy away from it.

  127. We can just turn away from it.

  128. But too many people see it as almost just fiction.

  129. Make-believe.

  130. It's just made up.

  131. Like a movie that has a far-off land

  132. that just isn't real.

  133. Yet that's not what it is at all.

  134. As one author describes it,

  135. we are not carried into some never-never land of fancy,

  136. but into the ever-ever land

  137. of God's eternal values

  138. and judgments.

  139. An ever-ever land.

  140. And Revelation chapter 21

    Revelation 21 chapter mention

  141. is a very familiar chapter maybe to many of you.

  142. It's a very comforting passage of Scripture.

  143. You very often hear it read at funerals,

  144. especially funerals of believers,

  145. because there are great comforting words

  146. in this chapter.

  147. And yet despite maybe a familiarity with it,

  148. there's just a sense of awe

  149. because it's indescribable.

  150. What is heaven going to be like?

  151. We don't fully appreciate.

  152. We don't fully understand.

  153. If we could even have an insight

  154. into the greatest palace in this world,

  155. if we were to have a walk around,

  156. even if you went around Buckingham Palace,

  157. for example,

  158. it would be nothing compared to this.

  159. It would be nothing compared to what God has prepared

  160. for his people.

  161. And so John is giving us a little insight.

  162. And he's giving it,

  163. as he often does,

  164. as the Scriptures often do,

  165. in the midst of comfort,

  166. but also warning.

  167. We are told this will be a place of rejoicing

  168. for the Lord's people

  169. with the presence of God there.

  170. But it comes in the midst of warning,

  171. just like it does so often in Scripture.

  172. For example, in Isaiah,

  173. the book of Isaiah,

  174. you have great warnings

  175. throughout the book of Isaiah.

  176. They are going to be taken into captivity.

  177. There is disaster coming upon them.

  178. But in the midst,

  179. you have comforting verses as well,

  180. verses of hope.

  181. So in the midst of Isaiah warning the people,

  182. there's also comfort,

  183. as he says in Isaiah 35, verse 10,

    Isaiah 35:10

  184. the ransomed of the Lord shall return

  185. and come to Sion with singing.

  186. Everlasting joy shall be upon them,

  187. upon their heads.

  188. They shall obtain gladness and joy,

  189. and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.

  190. Very similar to the words

  191. that we have in verse 4 here.

  192. So Isaiah is writing in the midst of warning.

  193. Great words of comfort.

  194. And the same could be said

  195. for this book of Revelation as well.

  196. We have these great comforting words

  197. in chapter 21,

  198. but they follow chapter 20, verse 13,

  199. where it says there,

  200. in verse 13,

  201. And the sea gave up their dead who were in it.

  202. Death and Hades gave up their dead who were in them.

  203. And they were judged,

  204. each one of them,

  205. according to what they had done.

  206. This warning,

  207. this warning of judgment

  208. into the deeds that they have done.

  209. But for those who are a people of faith then,

  210. that's what brings us then into chapter 21.

  211. This great hope

  212. of an everlasting place

  213. with God.

  214. A place we will see under three headings.

  215. A place that God dwells.

  216. A place that God dispels.

  217. And a place that God seals.

  218. A place that God dwells first.

  219. We often have that question.

  220. We hear it's a question asked,

  221. whether it's young or old,

  222. doesn't matter what age we are.

  223. What kind of place will heaven be?

  224. Where is heaven?

  225. We don't know all the answers.

  226. We don't know everything for sure.

  227. But in verse 3 to 5,

  228. we are given some insight into that question.

  229. And verse 3 reminds us

  230. that it's a place that God

  231. will dwell with his people.

  232. He is going to be ever present

  233. in this new Jerusalem.

  234. Verse 3 says,

  235. There is a sense of belonging together,

  236. of being together.

  237. A place where God will dwell

  238. ever with his people.

  239. And what he announces here

  240. in Revelation 21

  241. has very much Old Testament language

  242. behind it as well.

  243. The fulfillment of it.

  244. Because often through the Old Testament

  245. you see that phrase,

  246. I will be their God

  247. and they will be my people.

  248. It's repeated a number of times

  249. throughout the Old Testament.

  250. Genesis 17, verse 8,

    Genesis 17:8

  251. I will give us an everlasting possession

  252. to you and your descendants after you

  253. and I will be their God.

  254. Jeremiah 32, verse 38,

    Jeremiah 32:38

  255. They will be my people

  256. and I will be their God.

  257. It's that constant refrain

  258. that as a people are faithful

  259. towards God,

  260. they will be his people.

  261. He will be their God.

  262. There is this relationship

  263. that is right and that is good.

  264. But in these ones,

  265. it never lasts.

  266. There's no lasting peace.

  267. It comes so often to an end

  268. because of the disobedience

  269. of the people.

  270. They reject him,

  271. they turn away from him

  272. and then the pattern begins again.

  273. But what Revelation is showing us

  274. is a day is coming

  275. when those patterns will stop

  276. and that God will dwell

  277. with his people forever.

  278. And there's reminders of that

  279. in the Old Testament as well.

  280. Ezekiel has a great reminder to us

  281. a number of times in Ezekiel.

  282. Ezekiel 37, verse 27, 28,

    Ezekiel 37:27

  283. this is looking more

  284. to that eternal nature

  285. of God dwelling.

  286. My dwelling place will be with them.

  287. I will be their God

  288. and they will be my people.

  289. Then the nations will know

  290. that I, the Lord,

  291. make Israel holy

  292. when my sanctuary is among them forever.

  293. So he is reminding them

  294. there will be an eternal dwelling.

  295. And Ezekiel 48, 35,

  296. the last verse of that book

  297. of that vision says,

  298. and the name of the city

  299. from that time on will be,

  300. the Lord is there.

  301. If you were at the prayer meeting

  302. on Wednesday evening,

  303. you will remember that verse,

  304. I hope.

  305. The Lord is there,

  306. Jehovah Shammah.

  307. Shammah.

  308. That's what it means.

  309. One of the names of the Lord

  310. that we looked at.

  311. The Lord is there.

  312. God will dwell with his people.

  313. It's an eternal dwelling.

  314. It's not something temporary,

  315. which is what we have in this world

  316. and what we have always had.

  317. As you go through the scriptures,

  318. whether you're looking

  319. at the children of Israel

  320. in the wilderness roaming around,

  321. in their tents at times,

  322. then cities being made,

  323. villages and towns.

  324. We think of our own island,

  325. how homes have changed

  326. over the year from huts

  327. and small, just stone-built homes

  328. to black houses,

  329. to modern homes that we live in now.

  330. Accommodation,

  331. places we live is always evolving,

  332. always changing.

  333. And yet nothing that we have here

  334. is permanent.

  335. They are always only temporary.

  336. And what we have here

  337. is not just a renovation of something,

  338. it's a new build,

  339. a new heaven and a new earth

  340. made perfect by God.

  341. A place Abraham in the Old Testament

  342. was looking towards,

  343. as Hebrews says,

  344. Hebrews 11 verse 10,

    Hebrews 11:10

  345. for he was looking forward

  346. to the city that has foundations,

  347. whose designer and builder is God.

  348. God dwelling with his people.

  349. A prepared place,

  350. as Jesus describes it in John 14.

  351. Let not your hearts be troubled.

  352. Great comfort in these words as well.

  353. Believe in God,

  354. believe also in me.

  355. In my Father's house

  356. are many rooms.

  357. If it were not so,

  358. would I have told you

  359. that I go to prepare a place for you?

  360. Prepared by the Lord himself.

  361. And if I go and prepare a place for you,

  362. I will come again

  363. and will take you to myself,

  364. that where I am,

  365. you may be also.

  366. It's a place the Lord desires

  367. his people to be forever.

  368. It is a place that God will dwell

  369. with his people.

  370. Some of you maybe have visited,

  371. the privilege of maybe visiting St. Kilda,

  372. a place I would love to go one day.

  373. Maybe you've seen images

  374. of what it was in the past

  375. if you've not been able to visit it.

  376. Fascinating place,

  377. a place where people lived

  378. in what must have been

  379. very difficult conditions at times.

  380. And yet when you see it,

  381. whether you've been there

  382. or when you see the images of it,

  383. you see it was once a community,

  384. once a village,

  385. once a place that people,

  386. families dwelled together.

  387. But it changed.

  388. Times changed.

  389. It's no more like that.

  390. There's people go out there

  391. to work now.

  392. But it's very different

  393. to what it was.

  394. Same as we look around our island,

  395. we see homes.

  396. We even find places

  397. where villages used to be

  398. but are no more.

  399. And yet they've all got a history

  400. and yet the people

  401. are no longer there.

  402. But is God there?

  403. Yes, he's still there.

  404. He's still wherever his people are.

  405. Times change.

  406. People change.

  407. Places change.

  408. But God doesn't.

  409. And what God has

  410. is a prepared place

  411. for his people.

  412. A place that he will dwell

  413. with his people.

  414. Is that the place

  415. that we are looking for?

  416. Is that the place

  417. that we are longing for?

  418. When our attention,

  419. our thoughts

  420. are so often caught up

  421. in the things

  422. that we have in this world,

  423. let's remember

  424. that there is another place

  425. to come.

  426. A place of God's making.

  427. A place where God will dwell.

  428. And where he longs to dwell

  429. with his people.

  430. When you think of how Jesus

  431. has gone to prepare a place.

  432. We know that he went

  433. to prepare a place

  434. as we were remembering

  435. last Lord's Day

  436. through giving.

  437. Through paying.

  438. We could never

  439. afford this home.

  440. Not just because of

  441. the way it's described

  442. and all its jewels

  443. and gold

  444. and pearls

  445. and all of these things.

  446. We could never afford them.

  447. But more than that,

  448. we could never afford it

  449. in what Jesus

  450. has done for us.

  451. But he goes

  452. to prepare

  453. a place.

  454. So God dwells

  455. in this place.

  456. But we see also,

  457. secondly,

  458. God dispels here as well

  459. in verse 4.

  460. He will wipe away

  461. every tear

  462. from their eyes

  463. and death

  464. shall be no more.

  465. Neither

  466. shall there be mourning

  467. nor crying

  468. nor pain anymore

  469. for the former things

  470. have passed away.

  471. God

  472. dispels.

  473. what does God

  474. dwelling with his people

  475. mean?

  476. We have God

  477. with us here.

  478. But while we are

  479. in this earth,

  480. there's a sense

  481. of

  482. an incompleteness.

  483. not in the sense

  484. that God

  485. doesn't care

  486. for us.

  487. He does.

  488. But an incompleteness

  489. because we are

  490. still sinners.

  491. We are still

  492. in a fallen world.

  493. And because of that,

  494. we are a suffering

  495. people.

  496. But as we put

  497. our trust in God,

  498. we know that he is

  499. concerned for us.

  500. That he has a love

  501. towards us.

  502. And that is

  503. God's desire

  504. is for us

  505. to know

  506. his comfort.

  507. But there is

  508. still

  509. suffering.

  510. We don't need

  511. reminded about

  512. that much

  513. because

  514. we all know it.

  515. We all go through it.

  516. We're reminded

  517. in different ways

  518. throughout this world.

  519. And yet God

  520. still has his people

  521. of concern

  522. for others.

  523. You may have heard

  524. of the dwelling

  525. places in Uganda

  526. an organization

  527. I'm sure many of you

  528. are familiar with.

  529. Looking out for

  530. street children

  531. in the cities of Uganda

  532. like Kampala.

  533. And when you look

  534. at the work

  535. that they do

  536. among orphans,

  537. children who are

  538. abandoned

  539. and out on the street,

  540. they are trying

  541. to give them

  542. a better life

  543. and help them

  544. in their pain,

  545. in their sorrow,

  546. in their loss.

  547. And they are trying

  548. to dispel

  549. that idea

  550. that they cannot

  551. be helped.

  552. The idea

  553. that their lives

  554. are just going

  555. to be always

  556. full of pain.

  557. And they have

  558. behind it,

  559. behind their work

  560. is the scriptures,

  561. the word of God.

  562. Their text

  563. is taken

  564. from Isaiah,

  565. Isaiah 58,

    Isaiah 58:12

  566. verse 12.

  567. And your ancient

  568. ruins shall be rebuilt.

  569. You shall raise up

  570. the foundations

  571. of many generations.

  572. You shall be called

  573. the repairer

  574. of the breach,

  575. the restorer

  576. of streets

  577. to dwell in.

  578. Restoration

  579. is behind it.

  580. And their motto

  581. is until every child

  582. has a chest

  583. to rest his head

  584. on and a place

  585. to call home.

  586. That's their longing.

  587. And yet the reality

  588. is that that's not

  589. always what happens.

  590. Tears,

  591. sorrow,

  592. death,

  593. mourning,

  594. crying,

  595. all these things

  596. still happen.

  597. There is still

  598. that sorrow

  599. and sadness.

  600. And the reality

  601. is not just

  602. for the children

  603. of Kampala.

  604. It's for people

  605. far and wide.

  606. Have you read

  607. the bulletin sheet

  608. today for the

  609. Lewis Christian Conference?

  610. The speaker

  611. who's going to be there,

  612. Reverend Dr. Robert Smith.

  613. Paragraph there

  614. says this,

  615. Dr. Smith

  616. has faced

  617. extraordinary

  618. family tragedies.

  619. After losing

  620. his first wife

  621. to lupus,

  622. he subsequently

  623. lost two of his sons.

  624. His oldest son

  625. died of cancer

  626. and another son

  627. was murdered

  628. during a gang attack

  629. at the supermarket

  630. where he was working

  631. that evening.

  632. Tragedy,

  633. sorrow,

  634. grief that many of us

  635. have never experienced

  636. to that extent.

  637. And yet here

  638. he is coming

  639. to minister,

  640. to preach

  641. the gospel.

  642. Because it says

  643. there as well,

  644. Dr. Smith

  645. has spoken publicly

  646. about his grueling

  647. spiritual journey

  648. of processing

  649. this murder,

  650. noting

  651. that he ultimately

  652. chose to extend

  653. forgiveness

  654. to the young man

  655. who shot

  656. his son.

  657. Grace

  658. in the midst

  659. of grief.

  660. God gives us

  661. grace

  662. in this world

  663. as we go on.

  664. But he gives us

  665. grace

  666. preparing us

  667. as his children

  668. for a place

  669. of rest.

  670. A place

  671. where he'd

  672. dispel

  673. all of these

  674. things as described

  675. for us

  676. in verse 4.

  677. It's a wonderful

  678. verse.

  679. He will wipe

  680. away every tear

  681. from their eyes.

  682. There's that

  683. personal nature

  684. to it.

  685. He,

  686. not a servant,

  687. not somebody else,

  688. he will wipe

  689. away every tear

  690. from their eyes.

  691. death

  692. shall be

  693. no more.

  694. Neither

  695. shall there be

  696. mourning

  697. nor crying

  698. nor pain

  699. anymore.

  700. All of these

  701. things

  702. that cause

  703. us grief

  704. and hardship

  705. and sorrow

  706. so often

  707. dispelled.

  708. Dispelled

  709. by him.

  710. Maybe you're

  711. here tonight

  712. as a believer

  713. and you still

  714. have a great

  715. sense of this,

  716. the burden

  717. of this world

  718. upon you.

  719. Sin,

  720. grief,

  721. disappointment.

  722. All of these

  723. things,

  724. because we live

  725. in a fallen

  726. world,

  727. can still

  728. linger with us

  729. and it can

  730. leave us

  731. anxious.

  732. Does it

  733. worry how

  734. you feel

  735. or how it

  736. affects you

  737. on a day-to-day

  738. basis?

  739. Your relationship

  740. with the Lord?

  741. Maybe your

  742. relationship

  743. with others?

  744. Well,

  745. you can come

  746. to God's

  747. word and

  748. find here

  749. comfort.

  750. Comfort

  751. that all

  752. of these

  753. things

  754. will be

  755. dealt

  756. with by

  757. him.

  758. He

  759. will wipe

  760. away every

  761. tear.

  762. He

  763. will dispel

  764. death.

  765. It shall

  766. be no more.

  767. No more

  768. mourning,

  769. crying,

  770. pain.

  771. All these

  772. former things

  773. have passed

  774. away.

  775. Maybe you're

  776. seeking here

  777. this evening.

  778. You don't

  779. believe in

  780. God,

  781. but you'd

  782. love comfort.

  783. You'd love

  784. a sense of

  785. there's better

  786. in this life

  787. and there's

  788. better to

  789. come.

  790. Well,

  791. where is it

  792. found?

  793. It is found

  794. in the Lord

  795. Jesus Christ,

  796. the one

  797. who prepares

  798. a place

  799. for his

  800. people.

  801. And you

  802. can come.

  803. You can

  804. all come.

  805. Believer,

  806. non-believer,

  807. seeker,

  808. wherever you

  809. are this

  810. evening,

  811. you can

  812. come to

  813. these words

  814. and you

  815. can find

  816. comfort in

  817. these words

  818. because they

  819. are great

  820. words.

  821. They are

  822. wonderful

  823. words.

  824. They are

  825. God

  826. speaking.

  827. And you

  828. see here

  829. he is

  830. speaking

  831. with a

  832. loud voice

  833. as it

  834. says in

  835. verse 3.

  836. I heard

  837. a loud

  838. voice from

  839. the throne

  840. saying,

  841. God

  842. is speaking

  843. here.

  844. God is

  845. speaking to

  846. us.

  847. He is

  848. the one

  849. who has

  850. all of

  851. these

  852. things

  853. in his

  854. hands.

  855. He is

  856. the one

  857. who says

  858. he will

  859. dwell.

  860. He is

  861. the one

  862. who says

  863. he will

  864. dispel.

  865. All of

  866. these things

  867. are in

  868. his hands.

  869. And so

  870. we can

  871. look to

  872. him.

  873. We can

  874. put our

  875. trust

  876. in him.

  877. The third

  878. and final

  879. thing we

  880. see here

  881. is that

  882. God

  883. seals.

  884. God's

  885. seal is

  886. on all

  887. of this.

  888. In

  889. verse 5.

  890. And he

  891. who was

  892. seated on

  893. the throne

  894. said,

  895. Behold,

  896. I am

  897. making all

  898. things new.

  899. Also he

  900. said,

  901. Write

  902. this down

  903. for these

  904. words are

  905. trustworthy

  906. and true.

  907. This

  908. comes back

  909. to the

  910. fact that

  911. this is

  912. not a

  913. fairy tale.

  914. This is

  915. not never

  916. never land.

  917. This is

  918. the ever

  919. ever land

  920. of God.

  921. These

  922. words are

  923. trustworthy

  924. and these

  925. words are

  926. true.

  927. God's

  928. seal is

  929. on it.

  930. It is

  931. the word

  932. that comes

  933. from the

  934. throne.

  935. A loud

  936. voice from

  937. the throne

  938. saying,

  939. This is

  940. a royal

  941. seal.

  942. It is

  943. the one

  944. who sits

  945. on the

  946. throne

  947. that

  948. delivers

  949. these

  950. words.

  951. They

  952. are

  953. trustworthy

  954. and they

  955. are

  956. true.

  957. In

  958. Corinthians

  959. Paul

  960. speaks

  961. about

  962. having

  963. been

  964. purchased

  965. through

  966. Jesus

  967. Christ.

  968. Corinthians

  969. 1

  970. verse

  971. 21.

  972. Now

  973. it is

  974. God

  975. who

  976. makes

  977. both

  978. us

  979. and

  980. you

  981. stand

  982. firm

  983. in

  984. Christ.

  985. He

  986. anointed

  987. us,

  988. set

  989. his

  990. seal

  991. of

  992. ownership

  993. on us

  994. and put

  995. his

  996. spirit

  997. in our

  998. hearts

  999. as a

  1000. deposit

  1001. guaranteeing

  1002. what is

  1003. to come.

  1004. He

  1005. has set

  1006. his

  1007. seal

  1008. on

  1009. his

  1010. people.

  1011. When

  1012. you are

  1013. trusting

  1014. in him

  1015. he

  1016. owns

  1017. you.

  1018. He

  1019. has

  1020. ownership

  1021. over you

  1022. and he

  1023. has put

  1024. a

  1025. spirit

  1026. in your

  1027. heart

  1028. as a

  1029. deposit

  1030. guaranteeing

  1031. what is

  1032. to come

  1033. which is

  1034. what we

  1035. have

  1036. here.

  1037. These

  1038. words

  1039. are

  1040. trustworthy

  1041. and

  1042. true.

  1043. God

  1044. will

  1045. dwell

  1046. with

  1047. his

  1048. people.

  1049. God

  1050. will

  1051. dispel

  1052. all

  1053. of

  1054. these

  1055. things

  1056. because

  1057. his

  1058. seal

  1059. is

  1060. on

  1061. it.

  1062. You

  1063. maybe

  1064. have

  1065. heard

  1066. of the

  1067. royal

  1068. seal

  1069. of

  1070. approval.

  1071. If you

  1072. look it

  1073. up you

  1074. find

  1075. it's

  1076. a

  1077. royal

  1078. seal

  1079. that's

  1080. given

  1081. to

  1082. suppliers

  1083. to

  1084. the

  1085. royal

  1086. family

  1087. very

  1088. often

  1089. these

  1090. days.

  1091. From

  1092. chemists

  1093. to

  1094. chocolate

  1095. companies

  1096. to

  1097. cars

  1098. to

  1099. clothing

  1100. they

  1101. grant

  1102. the

  1103. royal

  1104. seal

  1105. of

  1106. approval.

  1107. Well

  1108. here

  1109. we

  1110. have

  1111. as a

  1112. people

  1113. we

  1114. are

  1115. told

  1116. that

  1117. God

  1118. from

  1119. his

  1120. throne

  1121. in

  1122. heaven

  1123. puts

  1124. his

  1125. royal

  1126. seal

  1127. on

  1128. his

  1129. people.

  1130. Again

  1131. in

  1132. Corinthians

  1133. Paul

  1134. describes

  1135. it

  1136. in

  1137. this

  1138. way

  1139. for

  1140. it

  1141. is

  1142. not

  1143. the

  1144. one

  1145. who

  1146. commends

  1147. himself

  1148. who

  1149. is

  1150. approved

  1151. but

  1152. the

  1153. one

  1154. whom

  1155. the

  1156. Lord

  1157. commends.

  1158. The

  1159. one

  1160. whom

  1161. the

  1162. Lord

  1163. commends.

  1164. We

  1165. are

  1166. approved

  1167. by

  1168. God.

  1169. So

  1170. if you

  1171. put your

  1172. trust

  1173. in

  1174. him

  1175. you

  1176. are

  1177. approved.

  1178. Do

  1179. you

  1180. want

  1181. to

  1182. be

  1183. in

  1184. this

  1185. place?

  1186. Do

  1187. you

  1188. long

  1189. to

  1190. be

  1191. in

  1192. this

  1193. place?

  1194. Because

  1195. it is

  1196. a place

  1197. that we

  1198. can dwell

  1199. eternally

  1200. with

  1201. God.

  1202. Remember

  1203. the

  1204. alternative

  1205. is

  1206. without

  1207. God.

  1208. But

  1209. here

  1210. we

  1211. have

  1212. with

  1213. God.

  1214. The

  1215. words

  1216. of

  1217. Jesus

  1218. as he

  1219. says

  1220. well

  1221. done

  1222. good

  1223. and

  1224. faithful

  1225. servant.

  1226. You

  1227. have

  1228. been

  1229. faithful

  1230. over

  1231. a

  1232. little

  1233. I

  1234. will

  1235. set

  1236. you

  1237. over

  1238. much.

  1239. Enter

  1240. into

  1241. the

  1242. joy

  1243. of

  1244. your

  1245. master.

  1246. That's

  1247. the

  1248. words

  1249. of

  1250. entering

  1251. into

  1252. his

  1253. kingdom,

  1254. into

  1255. heaven,

  1256. into

  1257. his

  1258. glory

  1259. forevermore.

  1260. We

  1261. can

  1262. be

  1263. nosy

  1264. as to

  1265. what

  1266. other

  1267. people's

  1268. homes

  1269. look

  1270. like.

  1271. We

  1272. can

  1273. look

  1274. them

  1275. up

  1276. online

  1277. and

  1278. see

  1279. what's

  1280. around

  1281. them,

  1282. what's

  1283. inside

  1284. them,

  1285. what's

  1286. the

  1287. price.

  1288. But are

  1289. you

  1290. as

  1291. keen

  1292. to

  1293. find

  1294. out

  1295. about

  1296. this

  1297. place?

  1298. To

  1299. know

  1300. more

  1301. of

  1302. this

  1303. place?

  1304. To

  1305. realize

  1306. the

  1307. hope

  1308. that

  1309. there

  1310. is

  1311. in

  1312. this

  1313. place?

  1314. When

  1315. you go

  1316. back to

  1317. the

  1318. beginning

  1319. of the

  1320. book of

  1321. Revelation

    Revelation 3 chapter mention

  1322. chapter

  1323. 3,

  1324. there's a

  1325. verse

  1326. there that

  1327. says,

  1328. behold,

  1329. I stand

  1330. at the

  1331. door and

  1332. knock.

  1333. So God

  1334. is standing

  1335. on the

  1336. outside of

  1337. your

  1338. home,

  1339. knocking,

  1340. wanting

  1341. to come

  1342. in.

  1343. If anyone

  1344. hears my

  1345. voice and

  1346. opens the

  1347. door,

  1348. I will

  1349. come in

  1350. to him

  1351. and eat

  1352. with him

  1353. and he

  1354. with me.

  1355. It's almost

  1356. like that

  1357. sense of

  1358. God wants

  1359. to see

  1360. where we

  1361. live,

  1362. where we're

  1363. at,

  1364. and he

  1365. wants to

  1366. dwell with

  1367. us here.

  1368. But then

  1369. as you

  1370. come to

  1371. this

  1372. passage,

  1373. it's as

  1374. if he's

  1375. saying,

  1376. now,

  1377. come and

  1378. see where

  1379. I live,

  1380. come and

  1381. see where

  1382. I dwell,

  1383. and come

  1384. and join

  1385. me here.

  1386. So that's

  1387. the way we

  1388. see life.

  1389. He knocks

  1390. at our

  1391. door and

  1392. wants to

  1393. come in

  1394. and dwell

  1395. with us

  1396. here,

  1397. that we

  1398. might have

  1399. that relationship

  1400. with him,

  1401. that he

  1402. might see

  1403. our homes.

  1404. But he

  1405. longs for

  1406. us then

  1407. eventually

  1408. to come

  1409. and abide

  1410. with him,

  1411. to dwell

  1412. with him

  1413. in his

  1414. home,

  1415. in the

  1416. place that

  1417. he has

  1418. made,

  1419. the place

  1420. that he

  1421. has

  1422. prepared.

  1423. What

  1424. compares

  1425. our home

  1426. here

  1427. or what

  1428. he has

  1429. done

  1430. for us?

  1431. There is

  1432. nothing that

  1433. will compare

  1434. to this

  1435. place,

  1436. this place

  1437. that John

  1438. couldn't even

  1439. put into

  1440. words.

  1441. what we

  1442. need this

  1443. evening is

  1444. as Kenny

  1445. was saying

  1446. to us

  1447. this morning

  1448. in the

  1449. children's

  1450. address,

  1451. help us

  1452. see,

  1453. help us

  1454. understand

  1455. our need

  1456. of this

  1457. place.

  1458. Help us

  1459. understand the

  1460. way to

  1461. this place

  1462. that is

  1463. through faith

  1464. in the

  1465. Lord Jesus

  1466. Christ,

  1467. that as

  1468. you put

  1469. your trust

  1470. in him,

  1471. you can

  1472. dwell in

  1473. this place

  1474. secure

  1475. forevermore

  1476. as Psalm

  1477. 23

  1478. describes.

  1479. I think

  1480. I have

  1481. used this

  1482. before,

  1483. words of

  1484. Richard Baxter,

  1485. but I love

  1486. just the way

  1487. they tie in

  1488. with the

  1489. whole theme

  1490. of heaven.

  1491. And I will

  1492. leave you

  1493. with them

  1494. again this

  1495. evening as

  1496. we think

  1497. of how

  1498. God

  1499. dwells,

  1500. how God

  1501. dispels,

  1502. and how

  1503. God

  1504. seals

  1505. all of

  1506. these

  1507. things.

  1508. Richard

  1509. Baxter

  1510. once said,

  1511. Christ

  1512. leads me

  1513. through no

  1514. darker rooms

  1515. than he

  1516. went through

  1517. before.

  1518. He that

  1519. unto God's

  1520. kingdom

  1521. comes must

  1522. enter by

  1523. this door.

  1524. Come,

  1525. Lord,

  1526. when grace

  1527. hath made

  1528. me meet,

  1529. thy blessed

  1530. face to see.

  1531. For if thy

  1532. work on

  1533. earth be

  1534. sweet,

  1535. what will

  1536. thy glory

  1537. be?

  1538. Then I

  1539. shall end

  1540. my sad

  1541. complaints

  1542. and weary

  1543. sinful

  1544. days,

  1545. and join

  1546. with the

  1547. triumphant

  1548. saints that

  1549. sing my

  1550. Saviour's

  1551. praise.

  1552. My knowledge

  1553. of that

  1554. life is

  1555. small,

  1556. the eye

  1557. of faith

  1558. is dim,

  1559. but tis

  1560. enough that

  1561. Christ knows

  1562. all,

  1563. and I

  1564. shall be

  1565. with him.

  1566. is that

  1567. what you

  1568. want?

  1569. Our

  1570. eyes of

  1571. faith

  1572. are small,

  1573. our eyes

  1574. of faith

  1575. are dim,

  1576. but surely

  1577. it is enough

  1578. that Christ

  1579. knows all.

  1580. Do you

  1581. want to

  1582. be with

  1583. him?

  1584. Don't just

  1585. be curious

  1586. about this

  1587. house.

  1588. this house

  1589. is yours

  1590. if you

  1591. put your

  1592. trust in

  1593. the Lord

  1594. Jesus

  1595. Christ.

  1596. May you

  1597. know the

  1598. way to

  1599. him and

  1600. his dwelling

  1601. place with

  1602. you now,

  1603. but that

  1604. hope

  1605. forevermore.

  1606. Let us

  1607. pray.

  1608. Lord,

  1609. our

  1610. gracious

  1611. God,

  1612. we can

  1613. echo

  1614. with the

  1615. words of

  1616. Richard

  1617. Baxter

  1618. that our

  1619. knowledge

  1620. of that

  1621. life is

  1622. small,

  1623. our eyes

  1624. of faith

  1625. are dim,

  1626. but help

  1627. us to

  1628. know that

  1629. in Christ

  1630. who knows

  1631. all we

  1632. have enough

  1633. and that

  1634. we would

  1635. have that

  1636. hope to

  1637. be with

  1638. him.

  1639. Lord,

  1640. we thank

  1641. you that

  1642. your word

  1643. reminds us

  1644. that although

  1645. there are

  1646. many struggles

  1647. in this

  1648. world,

  1649. though there

  1650. are many

  1651. times of

  1652. mourning and

  1653. grief,

  1654. that it is

  1655. also a

  1656. world that

  1657. is passing

  1658. by,

  1659. but a

  1660. world that

  1661. you are

  1662. showing us

  1663. that is

  1664. better to

  1665. come,

  1666. that is

  1667. greater

  1668. ahead,

  1669. a new

  1670. heaven and

  1671. a new

  1672. earth prepared

  1673. for all

  1674. your people,

  1675. a place

  1676. where you

  1677. will dwell

  1678. with each

  1679. of your

  1680. people

  1681. forevermore.

  1682. Lord,

  1683. give us

  1684. eyes to

  1685. see,

  1686. as we

  1687. ask all

  1688. in Jesus

  1689. name.

  1690. Amen.

  1691. We're

  1692. going to

  1693. conclude by

  1694. singing to

  1695. God's

  1696. praise in

  1697. Psalm 73a,

  1698. the Sing

  1699. Psalms

  1700. version,

  1701. Psalm 73a.

  1702. We'll

  1703. sing from

  1704. verse 23

  1705. down to

  1706. the end

  1707. of the

  1708. psalm.

  1709. Psalm 73a,

  1710. at verse

  1711. 23.

  1712. Yet I

  1713. remain with

  1714. you continually,

  1715. by my

  1716. right hand

  1717. you hold

  1718. me as

  1719. my guide,

  1720. you lead

  1721. me with

  1722. your

  1723. counsel to

  1724. the end,

  1725. and take

  1726. me into

  1727. glory to

  1728. abide.

  1729. Psalm 73a,

  1730. verse 23,

  1731. to the end

  1732. of the

  1733. psalm.

  1734. Psalm 73a,

  1735. verse 23,

  1736. to the end

  1737. psalm.

  1738. Psalm 73a,

  1739. verse 23,

  1740. verse 23,

  1741. verse 23,

  1742. verse 23,

  1743. yet I

  1744. remain with

  1745. you continually,

  1746. by my

  1747. right hand

  1748. you hold

  1749. me as

  1750. my guide,

  1751. you lead

  1752. me with

  1753. your

  1754. counsel

  1755. to

  1756. the

  1757. end,

  1758. and take

  1759. me into

  1760. glory to

  1761. my

  1762. life.

  1763. In

  1764. heaven

  1765. room,

  1766. how I

  1767. and

  1768. you

  1769. alone,

  1770. on

  1771. earth

  1772. there

  1773. is no

  1774. one else

  1775. whom I

  1776. adore.

  1777. Oh,

  1778. oh,

  1779. my

  1780. heart,

  1781. make

  1782. heal

  1783. and

  1784. pleasure

  1785. me.

  1786. God

  1787. is

  1788. my

  1789. strength

  1790. and

  1791. for

  1792. shall

  1793. ever

  1794. go.

  1795. Those

  1796. who

  1797. are

  1798. far

  1799. from

  1800. you

  1801. will

  1802. be

  1803. God

  1804. down,

  1805. all

  1806. those

  1807. who

  1808. are

  1809. unflictful

  1810. you

  1811. destroy,

  1812. all

  1813. that I

  1814. know

  1815. near,

  1816. and

  1817. sheltered

  1818. in my

  1819. heart.

  1820. I

  1821. will

  1822. be

  1823. torn,

  1824. me,

  1825. so

  1826. Lord,

  1827. I

  1828. will

  1829. revive

  1830. with

  1831. joy.

  1832. after

  1833. the

  1834. benediction,

  1835. I'll

  1836. go to

  1837. the

  1838. door to

  1839. my

  1840. right.

  1841. We'll

  1842. close with

  1843. the

  1844. benediction.

  1845. Now may

  1846. grace,

  1847. mercy,

  1848. and

  1849. peace

  1850. from

  1851. God,

  1852. Father,

  1853. Son,

  1854. and

  1855. Holy

  1856. Spirit

  1857. rest

  1858. upon

  1859. and

  1860. abide

  1861. with

  1862. you

  1863. all

  1864. now

  1865. and

  1866. forever

  1867. more.

  1868. Amen.

  1869. Thank you.
