  1. Well, turn with me now, please, to the passage we read in Revelation chapter 1, and reading again at verse 17.

    Revelation 1 chapter mention

  2. When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead, but he laid his right hand on me, saying, Fear not.

  3. I am the first and the last and the living one. I died, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of death and Hades.

  4. Well, this revelation that came to John, as he tells us himself here in verse 9, came to him when he was in the Isle of Patmos.

  5. Patmos was a place that the Roman authorities at the time used as a penal colony.

  6. They used to send people there who they regarded as troublemakers or potential troublemakers,

  7. and that's how they regarded some of the leading figures in the church as well at times during the times of the Roman Empire.

  8. And he tells us he was here in verse 9 in the Isle of Patmos for the patient endurance and tribulation of Jesus.

  9. He was there because he was regarded as a threat to the authority of the empire.

  10. He was sent to the Isle of Patmos to be banished there.

  11. It was an island which was very difficult to escape from.

  12. In other words, he was one of those persecuted for his role in the church,

  13. for his leadership in the church, for his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  14. And it's interesting, he calls himself their brother and partner in tribulation and the kingdom and patient endurance that are in Jesus.

  15. Now, that obviously would be greatly encouraging to those that he was writing to,

  16. because it's obvious going through the book of the Revelation that he was writing to people who knew what persecution was.

  17. And he was writing to encourage them, so he describes himself as being at one with them.

  18. And he's saying to them, although I'm an apostle, I'm in the same situation as you are.

  19. I haven't escaped the persecutions.

  20. I'm writing to you from the Isle of Patmos.

  21. And he says he was in the Spirit on the Lord's Day, the first day of the week.

  22. He was in the Spirit.

  23. That means he was under the direction of the Holy Spirit.

  24. That doesn't mean he was in an ecstasy where he didn't know what he was doing.

  25. But he was under the control, under the inspiration, and under the government or control of the Holy Spirit.

  26. So, in other words, what he's writing afterwards, the interpretation of the things that he saw and heard,

  27. they came to him because of the teaching of the Holy Spirit.

  28. He was under that Holy Spirit's influence at the time.

  29. He was there in the Lord's Day in the Spirit.

  30. And it's significant that he mentions it was on the Lord's Day, the first day of the week,

  31. which was a celebration in many ways of the resurrection of Christ from the dead, as it still is for us.

  32. This is what the Lord's Day is for us today.

  33. We are here today celebrating the fact that Christ is risen from the dead,

  34. ascended to glory, as we've been singing in Psalm 68.

  35. He ascended up on high and led captivity captive.

  36. He assumed his place on the throne of heaven, on the throne of the universe,

  37. presiding over all his enemies, including, as we'll see here, death as well.

  38. And that's important in the context of the book of the Revelation.

  39. It's probably a book that most of us don't read too often,

  40. and a book that has many things in it that are difficult to understand

  41. and difficult even to present by way of setting out its teaching.

  42. And it's quite common and understandable that people avoid the book of the Revelation,

  43. you know, so as not to go into it too deeply,

  44. because it is, in parts, very difficult to understand,

  45. even for ourselves who preach the Word of God.

  46. But it's important that we realize,

  47. what is the purpose of the book of the Revelation?

  48. What is the main thread of teaching running through the book of the Revelation?

  49. It is the triumph of Jesus.

  50. It is the supremacy of Jesus over all the powers that are in the universe,

  51. including the power of the devil and his angels,

  52. the powers of evil.

  53. This thread right through the book of the Revelation says,

  54. Jesus is King.

  55. Jesus is Lord.

  56. There is no power like the power of the Lord.

  57. There is no authority like the authority of the Lord.

  58. And the book of the Revelation is a book,

  59. however difficult passages in it are to understand,

  60. it's clear right through that this is the thread of teaching.

  61. We have a Savior who rules the world.

  62. We have a Savior who is King,

  63. not just of time, but of eternity.

  64. We have a Savior who will always be King,

  65. who will never relinquish his kingship,

  66. who will never be defeated in carrying out his kingship.

  67. Today we're worshipping this King.

  68. We're worshipping the one about whom

  69. the book of Revelation is

  70. and reveals his supremacy.

  71. So these are the things he says that he heard and saw.

  72. So let's look more closely at verses 17 and 18,

  73. 17 to 18 especially.

  74. When I saw him,

  75. he describes what he saw there in the passage there

  76. from verse 12,

  77. when he turned to see.

  78. And in fact,

  79. from verse 12 down to 16,

  80. that's actually the longest description of Jesus

  81. that you have in the whole Bible.

  82. It's a precise description of Jesus.

  83. All these words describe the person of Jesus

  84. and where he is.

  85. And it's the longest uninterrupted description

  86. of Jesus in the Bible.

  87. That's by the way,

  88. but it's important.

  89. And what is John's response?

  90. Well,

  91. something a bit like in Acts chapter 9,

    Acts 9 chapter mention

  92. when Paul was on the way to,

  93. Saul was on the way to Damascus

  94. when he was carrying certain messages,

  95. having been for years an opponent of Jesus.

  96. He met the risen Jesus.

  97. Jesus came into his path

  98. and interrupted his progress

  99. and revealed himself.

  100. Glory is light from heaven,

  101. the same Jesus here

  102. that you find here in Revelation.

  103. And what John is telling us is,

  104. when I saw him,

  105. I fell at his feet as though dead.

  106. He didn't say,

  107. Lord, it's great to see you.

  108. He didn't react as if this was just an ordinary person

  109. or some important human being

  110. that was revealing himself to him.

  111. He fell at his feet as though dead.

  112. In other words,

  113. it's telling us today

  114. what an awesome sight it is

  115. to see the risen Jesus.

  116. What an awesome sight is the glorified Lord.

  117. We're not worshipping today

  118. somebody who is tiny

  119. and just of limited significance.

  120. We're not worshipping today

  121. somebody who's just a made-up figure

  122. by the church over many centuries.

  123. We're worshipping one

  124. who is so awesome

  125. that the Saul of Tarsus,

  126. who thought he was in charge of his own life,

  127. and John here,

  128. the apostle who knew Jesus very well,

  129. fell at his feet as though dead.

  130. It was such an overwhelming,

  131. awesome experience

  132. to have this confrontation

  133. with the glorified Christ.

  134. Now, John knew Jesus very well.

  135. John knew Jesus in his time on earth.

  136. He was one of his disciples.

  137. He was one of the closest to Jesus

  138. in his walk with him

  139. while Jesus was with the disciples in this world.

  140. He knew Jesus very well.

  141. He was very familiar.

  142. He loved Jesus.

  143. He knew him as one that was special to him.

  144. But he had never seen him

  145. as he saw him here.

  146. He had never before been confronted

  147. with a glorified Jesus.

  148. He didn't fall down before him,

  149. though he knew Jesus very well previously

  150. and say,

  151. Lord, it is good to see you.

  152. It was good to see him.

  153. But he fell at his feet

  154. as though dead.

  155. He was overwhelmed.

  156. The glorified, risen Christ

  157. was such an awesome sight.

  158. This was the only proper response,

  159. just to fall prostrate at his feet

  160. and acknowledge him for who he is.

  161. And you know,

  162. this is such a wonderful emphasis,

  163. not just in terms of the awesomeness

  164. of the glorified Jesus,

  165. but go to verse 13.

  166. In the midst of the lampstands,

  167. one like a son of man.

  168. This is Jesus being described.

  169. The lampstands, he tells us

  170. in the final verse of the chapter,

  171. are representative of the seven churches.

  172. In other words, the whole church.

  173. I think we can take it that

  174. the letters to the seven churches

  175. at the time,

  176. they were real churches

  177. in real locations on earth.

  178. But they really stand for,

  179. if you like,

  180. the whole church throughout time

  181. where Jesus presides over them

  182. and speaks to them.

  183. But he says he is in the midst

  184. of the lampstands.

  185. Who is in the midst of the lampstands?

  186. What's he like,

  187. this person that's in the midst

  188. of the lampstands?

  189. Here we are gathered here today

  190. as worshipers of the Lord,

  191. and we have the assurance of the Lord

  192. that wherever the two or three

  193. are gathered in my name,

  194. I am there in the midst.

  195. Who is there in their midst?

  196. Whose presence are we seeking today?

  197. Presence of this person.

  198. This glorified Jesus

  199. through his Holy Spirit.

  200. And you know,

  201. there are many times

  202. when I, as much as anybody else,

  203. need to stop myself

  204. and just ask myself

  205. and say to myself,

  206. who are you going to be

  207. preaching about today?

  208. Whose presence do you want

  209. to be with you today?

  210. Whose presence do you want

  211. to be in that congregation today

  212. as you preach the gospel to them?

  213. This Jesus.

  214. This person.

  215. This grand,

  216. magnificent,

  217. in many ways,

  218. indescribable person.

  219. That's who's here today.

  220. That's who's here in our midst.

  221. We can't see him physically

  222. with your eye,

  223. but if you experience today

  224. his touch on your heart

  225. or on your mind,

  226. remember who he is.

  227. Remember what he's like now.

  228. Remember where he is.

  229. Remember what John says about him.

  230. Remember John's response.

  231. Remember the way he was overwhelmed

  232. by this vision of Jesus.

  233. Friends,

  234. we live in a world

  235. where Jesus is,

  236. if thought about at all,

  237. is denigrated.

  238. Just a figure you kick aside

  239. as you think about him briefly.

  240. Or somebody you find easy

  241. to ridicule

  242. as you ridicule the gospel.

  243. Just think of what it's going

  244. to be like.

  245. Just what it's like now

  246. to be in the presence

  247. of the Jesus

  248. who's in the midst of his church.

  249. Think of what it's going

  250. to be like to face him

  251. as he sits on the throne

  252. of judgment

  253. and at the end

  254. of the history of the world.

  255. Think of all those millions

  256. of people

  257. who've dismissed him

  258. and who come

  259. when it's too late

  260. to realize

  261. what a glorious person he is.

  262. What authority he has.

  263. What magnificence is here.

  264. Who is Jesus to you?

  265. What's he like

  266. in your own experience?

  267. What do you think about today

  268. as you think of Christ?

  269. Do you just think of someone

  270. who appeared on the earth

  271. for a few years

  272. and gave great teaching

  273. to the disciples

  274. and died on the cross

  275. of Calvary

  276. and arose again

  277. from the dead

  278. and is that about it?

  279. Is Jesus in your life

  280. the biggest

  281. the most important

  282. the most significant

  283. of all people?

  284. Is he your saviour?

  285. And if you confess him

  286. as your saviour

  287. is this how you see him?

  288. Is this who you serve?

  289. John's response

  290. response is falling

  291. as though dead

  292. as his feet

  293. but he laid his right hand

  294. on me he said

  295. and of course that's

  296. and he touched him

  297. he laid his right hand

  298. on me saying

  299. fear not

  300. I am the first

  301. and the last.

  302. Briefly

  303. you find in the

  304. gospel records

  305. the Lord coming to

  306. lay his hand

  307. on certain people

  308. maybe at the time

  309. he was healing people

  310. he communicated something

  311. through his touch

  312. as well as

  313. through his words

  314. and John is saying

  315. he laid his hand

  316. on me saying

  317. fear not

  318. in other words

  319. he's saying

  320. John don't be afraid

  321. I understand

  322. why you've fallen

  323. at my feet

  324. as dead

  325. but don't be afraid

  326. and he said that

  327. to the disciples

  328. when he was walking

  329. on the sea

  330. and they were terrified

  331. and he said

  332. don't be afraid

  333. it is I

  334. it's myself

  335. and you know

  336. one of the wonderful things

  337. that you can take

  338. from this today

  339. is that

  340. the glorified Christ

  341. for all his magnificence

  342. in all his magnificence

  343. the glorified Christ

  344. still has the same touch

  345. of comfort

  346. of assurance

  347. of reassurance

  348. for his people

  349. here on earth

  350. it's the same Jesus

  351. who ministers to us

  352. in our need here

  353. as minister to John

  354. here on the isle of Patmos

  355. that's your counselor

  356. that's your friend

  357. this glorious

  358. exalted Jesus

  359. he's the one you

  360. today

  361. experience in your life

  362. as a Christian

  363. the one who lays

  364. his hand upon you

  365. and assures you

  366. it's me

  367. you can't see me

  368. I'm glorified

  369. I'm exalted

  370. I'm indescribably

  371. magnificent

  372. I have all authority

  373. in heaven and earth

  374. but I'm here for you

  375. isn't that something

  376. that encourages

  377. your heart today

  378. as it also

  379. humbles us

  380. that this Jesus

  381. is the one

  382. who's with us

  383. on the way

  384. through life

  385. when our trust

  386. is in him

  387. that whatever

  388. our circumstances

  389. it's this Jesus

  390. that comes to us

  391. and say

  392. don't you be afraid

  393. I'm in control

  394. I'm on the throne

  395. of the universe

  396. I have my hand

  397. on your life

  398. I have a grasp

  399. of you

  400. and of your future

  401. as well as your past

  402. don't be afraid

  403. where else

  404. is an assurance

  405. and reassurance

  406. like that today

  407. and so he comes

  408. to reassure John

  409. and he says to him

  410. fear not

  411. I am the first

  412. and the last

  413. and the living one

  414. I died

  415. and behold

  416. I am alive

  417. forevermore

  418. I am the first

  419. and the last

  420. in other words

  421. it's really

  422. telling us something

  423. about the uniqueness

  424. of God

  425. and the uniqueness

  426. of Jesus

  427. the uniqueness

  428. of this person

  429. it takes us back

  430. to the likes of

  431. Isaiah chapter 44

    Isaiah 44 chapter mention

  432. where God is saying

  433. there

  434. thus says

  435. the Lord

  436. the King of Israel

  437. his Redeemer

  438. the Lord of hosts

  439. I am the first

  440. I am the last

  441. besides me

  442. there is no God

  443. who is like me

  444. let him proclaim it

  445. let him declare

  446. let it be said it

  447. before me

  448. fear not

  449. nor be afraid

  450. have I not told you

  451. from of old

  452. and declared it

  453. is there a God

  454. besides me

  455. there is no rock

  456. I know not any

  457. the same God

  458. of Isaiah

  459. now appearing

  460. to John

  461. as the risen

  462. glorified Christ

  463. I am

  464. the first

  465. and the last

  466. the living one

  467. I died

  468. and am alive

  469. forevermore

  470. in other words

  471. the reassurance

  472. that comes to us

  473. from Jesus

  474. it's not just

  475. a spoken word

  476. even though it is

  477. his word

  478. it's based

  479. upon certain

  480. truths

  481. if your heart

  482. is going to be

  483. comforted today

  484. you need your

  485. comfort to come

  486. on the basis

  487. of something

  488. sure

  489. something certain

  490. some truth

  491. that you know

  492. will not give way

  493. under your feet

  494. there it is

  495. in the Bible

  496. the truth of God

  497. the truth that is

  498. in Christ himself

  499. that's where your

  500. comfort is based

  501. that's where we look

  502. to for our hope

  503. isn't it

  504. we live in a world

  505. where many

  506. politicians will say

  507. no this is hope

  508. we've got hope

  509. for you

  510. what's it based upon

  511. sadly

  512. many times

  513. it's based on

  514. human wisdom

  515. only

  516. but Jesus

  517. comes to you

  518. today in the

  519. gospel and says

  520. this is comfort

  521. for you

  522. this is reassurance

  523. for you

  524. this is certainty

  525. for you

  526. fear not

  527. because I am

  528. the first

  529. and the last

  530. I am the living

  531. one

  532. who died

  533. and is alive

  534. forevermore

  535. now it's possible

  536. to translate that

  537. when he says

  538. the first

  539. and the last

  540. and then what

  541. follows on from that

  542. as the first

  543. you can think of God

  544. being the source

  545. of all the creation

  546. he created

  547. brought all things

  548. into being

  549. I am the first

  550. I am the one

  551. who's been there

  552. from all eternity

  553. and I brought

  554. everything else

  555. that exists

  556. into being

  557. and I am the last

  558. he will bring

  559. all things

  560. to the conclusion

  561. that he has always

  562. had in his purpose

  563. and has appointed

  564. in other words

  565. you could say

  566. from this

  567. that if you ask

  568. the question

  569. who's going to have

  570. the last word

  571. on human destiny

  572. who's going to have

  573. the last word

  574. on your life

  575. and my life

  576. who's going to have

  577. the last word

  578. when it comes to

  579. my relationship

  580. to eternity

  581. and the things

  582. of eternity

  583. he is

  584. I have the last word

  585. he's saying

  586. not Putin

  587. not Trump

  588. not Hitler

  589. not Nebuchadnezzar

  590. not Pharaoh

  591. none of these

  592. great word leaders

  593. down through the

  594. course of history

  595. though they themselves

  596. thought that they

  597. were the masters

  598. of their own situation

  599. and of other nations

  600. as well

  601. and God is saying

  602. regarding them

  603. and regarding

  604. everybody else

  605. who's thought

  606. that they had

  607. the last word

  608. over other people

  609. no God is saying

  610. Jesus is saying

  611. I have the last word

  612. you may think

  613. you've got the last word

  614. in your own life

  615. you may think

  616. that you're in control

  617. of your own life

  618. you may think

  619. that today

  620. and I may think

  621. and others may think

  622. when we come to

  623. leave this world

  624. we're going to be

  625. in charge of our

  626. own destiny

  627. no no we're not

  628. Jesus is saying

  629. I have the last word

  630. I'm in charge of it

  631. I'm in control of it

  632. I'm the governor

  633. and you're my subjects

  634. I'm the first

  635. and the last

  636. the almighty

  637. but he says then

  638. I am

  639. I died

  640. and I am alive

  641. and behold

  642. I'm alive forevermore

  643. now that can be

  644. translated

  645. some people

  646. will translate it

  647. something like follows

  648. I am the living one

  649. who died

  650. and behold

  651. I am alive

  652. forevermore

  653. I am the living one

  654. who died

  655. and behold

  656. I am alive

  657. forevermore

  658. in other words

  659. you think of the death

  660. of Jesus

  661. as the living one

  662. the God he is

  663. in our nature

  664. having taken

  665. our human nature

  666. to himself

  667. you think of

  668. this God

  669. the son of God

  670. the second person

  671. of the glorious trinity

  672. that God is

  673. the living one

  674. who came

  675. into this world

  676. to die

  677. who experienced death

  678. through our human nature

  679. as he gave himself

  680. to die

  681. the death

  682. of the cross

  683. I am the living one

  684. who always had life

  685. in myself

  686. who was none other

  687. than God

  688. from all eternity

  689. but I'm the living one

  690. who died

  691. my divine nature

  692. didn't die

  693. but I died

  694. through my human nature

  695. I experienced

  696. that death

  697. which you deserved

  698. through my human nature

  699. as I gave myself

  700. to the death

  701. of the cross

  702. mystery

  703. absolutely

  704. but what a glorious

  705. truth

  706. and how important

  707. to see it

  708. as a glorious truth

  709. I am

  710. the living one

  711. who died

  712. or who became dead

  713. and I'm alive

  714. forevermore

  715. I rose from the dead

  716. I defeated death

  717. I'm now sitting

  718. on the right hand

  719. of God the Father

  720. I'm in charge

  721. of the universe

  722. I have the scroll

  723. as later chapter here

  724. 5 will tell you

  725. I have the scroll

  726. that is opened up

  727. where all the events

  728. of history

  729. are unfolded

  730. and I'm in charge

  731. of it

  732. nobody else

  733. could open it

  734. but I opened it

  735. and I turn its pages

  736. and I'll do that

  737. till the last page

  738. is turned

  739. and when the last page

  740. is turned

  741. that will be the end

  742. of human history

  743. in this world

  744. in this life

  745. but I will turn it

  746. I'll be the one

  747. who'll do that

  748. and as he says himself

  749. in John 10

  750. before he died

  751. that it was for this reason

  752. the Father loves him

  753. because he said

  754. I lay down my life

  755. so that I might

  756. take it again

  757. this command I received

  758. from my Father

  759. what's he talking about

  760. this is Jesus

  761. speaking to the disciples

  762. speaking before his death

  763. and this is how he speaks

  764. of himself

  765. it's because of this

  766. the Father loves me

  767. because I lay down my life

  768. because I the living one

  769. the living son of God

  770. I lay down my life

  771. through my human nature

  772. I've come to die

  773. but not only that

  774. so that I might

  775. take it again

  776. in other words

  777. he's speaking of his

  778. resurrection

  779. only the living one

  780. the son of God

  781. could lay down his life

  782. in order to take it again

  783. in order to take it back

  784. by resurrection

  785. from the dead

  786. and what's resurrection

  787. from the dead

  788. it's triumph over death

  789. the triumph

  790. that's mentioned here

  791. as well

  792. I'm the living one

  793. who became dead

  794. and I'm alive

  795. forevermore

  796. you see all of that

  797. fits into this great thread

  798. that we mentioned

  799. at the beginning

  800. running through revelation

  801. the thread that gives us

  802. the greatest assurance

  803. today that if we are

  804. the Lord's people

  805. then we're going to

  806. share in his victory

  807. we're sharing in it already

  808. but throughout eternity

  809. this will be our song

  810. unto him who loved us

  811. and washed us from our sins

  812. to him be glory

  813. and majesty

  814. and dominion

  815. and power

  816. forevermore

  817. forevermore

  818. I am the living one

  819. who became dead

  820. and I am alive

  821. forevermore

  822. what a saviour you have today

  823. what a privilege is yours

  824. to be a Christian

  825. not just to be taught

  826. by words that Jesus

  827. left us in the Bible

  828. not just to know

  829. that he has given us

  830. certain things

  831. that will last us

  832. throughout time

  833. and on into eternity

  834. but what a privilege

  835. to know that

  836. this is our friend

  837. this is our companion

  838. this is the one we love

  839. this is the one

  840. we look after us

  841. will look after us

  842. why are we assured of that

  843. well because of what

  844. he's done already

  845. because he's the living one

  846. who died

  847. and now is alive

  848. forevermore

  849. and he finishes by saying

  850. and I have the keys

  851. of death

  852. and Hades

  853. Hades sometimes translated

  854. hell in the older

  855. translations

  856. but Hades is a Greek word

  857. which really

  858. really means the realm

  859. of the dead

  860. or the place of the dead

  861. sometimes there's

  862. there's no distinction

  863. made between those

  864. who left this world

  865. have gone to heaven

  866. and those who've gone

  867. to a lost eternity

  868. you can call hell

  869. or Hades

  870. but Hades sometimes

  871. is just a general description

  872. of what's beyond this world

  873. we continue to live

  874. beyond this world

  875. and in other passages

  876. of the Bible

  877. it's obvious that

  878. Hades

  879. the realm of the dead

  880. is actually

  881. inhabited by

  882. those who live

  883. forevermore

  884. and those who have

  885. an eternal death

  886. in hell

  887. and

  888. the way hell

  889. is usually described

  890. but you see

  891. the important thing here

  892. is

  893. not so much going into

  894. the meaning of the words

  895. as such

  896. though that's important

  897. I have the keys

  898. I have the keys

  899. of death

  900. and of Hades

  901. of the realm

  902. of the dead

  903. I'm the only one

  904. who has the authority

  905. to unlock it

  906. or the authority

  907. to lock it

  908. and today

  909. as your saviour

  910. Jesus is saying

  911. as he's come

  912. to release you

  913. from the guilt

  914. of sin

  915. as he's forgiven

  916. your sin

  917. as you've come

  918. to accept him

  919. as your saviour

  920. Jesus is saying

  921. I have turned the key

  922. in your life

  923. and released you

  924. from the grip

  925. of death

  926. from the grip

  927. of condemnation

  928. as Paul wrote

  929. to the Romans

  930. there is therefore now

  931. no condemnation

  932. to those

  933. who are in

  934. Christ Jesus

  935. why is there

  936. no condemnation

  937. because of what

  938. Jesus has done

  939. and who Jesus is

  940. why is there

  941. no condemnation

  942. because he has

  943. the key

  944. of death

  945. and if Christ

  946. unlocks

  947. the door of death

  948. to any one of us

  949. and saves us

  950. from it

  951. nobody's going

  952. to close it

  953. on us

  954. but the other

  955. side is equally

  956. true remember

  957. because if once

  958. we've lost

  959. left this world

  960. and enter

  961. a lost eternity

  962. if we're not

  963. saved

  964. Jesus

  965. is going

  966. to turn

  967. the key

  968. on hell

  969. for us

  970. and nobody

  971. has the authority

  972. to open it

  973. there is no

  974. exit

  975. when Christ

  976. has turned

  977. the key

  978. that's why

  979. it's so important

  980. for you

  981. and for me

  982. today

  983. that before

  984. we die

  985. we have come

  986. to know him

  987. as the one

  988. who has

  989. unlocked

  990. the door

  991. to life

  992. for us

  993. and locked

  994. the door

  995. to hell

  996. forever

  997. against our

  998. entry

  999. john's

  1000. response

  1001. and christ's

  1002. reassurance

  1003. and at the

  1004. end of

  1005. revelation

  1006. it comes

  1007. to a

  1008. climax

  1009. in its

  1010. teaching

  1011. when it

  1012. speaks in

  1013. chapter 20

  1014. about the

  1015. great throne

  1016. the great

  1017. white throne

  1018. that was set

  1019. up before

  1020. whom

  1021. everyone

  1022. who ever

  1023. lived

  1024. will come

  1025. to be

  1026. will come

  1027. to stand

  1028. and this

  1029. is

  1030. you remember

  1031. how it

  1032. says

  1033. in chapter

  1034. 20

  1035. and verses

  1036. 11 and

  1037. 12

  1038. then i saw

  1039. the great

  1040. white throne

  1041. and him

  1042. who was

  1043. seated on

  1044. it from

  1045. his presence

  1046. earth

  1047. and sky

  1048. fled away

  1049. and no

  1050. place was

  1051. found for

  1052. them

  1053. and i saw

  1054. the dead

  1055. great and

  1056. small

  1057. standing

  1058. before the

  1059. throne

  1060. and the

  1061. books were

  1062. opened

  1063. then another

  1064. book was

  1065. opened

  1066. which is

  1067. the book

  1068. of life

  1069. and the

  1070. dead

  1071. were judged

  1072. by what

  1073. was written

  1074. in the

  1075. books

  1076. according

  1077. to what

  1078. they had

  1079. done

  1080. and the

  1081. sea

  1082. gave up

  1083. the dead

  1084. who were

  1085. in it

  1086. death

  1087. and hades

  1088. gave up

  1089. the dead

  1090. who were

  1091. in them

  1092. and they

  1093. were judged

  1094. each one

  1095. of them

  1096. according

  1097. to what

  1098. they had

  1099. done

  1100. then death

  1101. and hades

  1102. were thrown

  1103. into the

  1104. lake of

  1105. fire

  1106. this is

  1107. the second

  1108. death

  1109. the lake

  1110. of fire

  1111. and if

  1112. anyone's

  1113. name was

  1114. not found

  1115. written

  1116. in the

  1117. book of

  1118. life

  1119. he was

  1120. thrown

  1121. into

  1122. the lake

  1123. of fire

  1124. friends these

  1125. things in

  1126. eternity are

  1127. real

  1128. but christ

  1129. has come

  1130. to rescue

  1131. us

  1132. from that

  1133. death and

  1134. hell that the

  1135. bible speaks

  1136. of and

  1137. to bring

  1138. us into

  1139. the possession

  1140. of that

  1141. life which

  1142. he himself

  1143. has authority

  1144. to give

  1145. us a

  1146. life which

  1147. he says

  1148. in john's

  1149. gospel is

  1150. abundant

  1151. life he

  1152. came to

  1153. give us

  1154. life he

  1155. experienced

  1156. and gave

  1157. himself to

  1158. death to

  1159. give us

  1160. life he

  1161. rose from

  1162. the dead

  1163. to give

  1164. us life

  1165. he is

  1166. exalted

  1167. to heaven

  1168. to give

  1169. us life

  1170. he is the

  1171. glorious one

  1172. before whom

  1173. paul and

  1174. john fell

  1175. down at

  1176. his feet

  1177. as though

  1178. dead

  1179. but you

  1180. know all

  1181. of that

  1182. is so

  1183. that you

  1184. and i

  1185. will live

  1186. through him

  1187. so that

  1188. we will

  1189. know him

  1190. as the

  1191. one who

  1192. said i

  1193. am the

  1194. way the

  1195. truth and

  1196. the life

  1197. whoever

  1198. comes to

  1199. me i

  1200. will never

  1201. cast out

  1202. may god

  1203. bless these

  1204. thoughts on

  1205. his word

  1206. to us we're

  1207. going to sing

  1208. in conclusion

  1209. now singing

  1210. in psalm

  1211. 95

  1212. psalm 95

  1213. in the

  1214. scottish

  1215. altar 1

  1216. to 6

  1217. oh come

  1218. let us

  1219. sing to

  1220. the lord

  1221. come let

  1222. us everyone

  1223. a joyful

  1224. noise make

  1225. to the

  1226. rock of

  1227. our salvation

  1228. let us

  1229. before his

  1230. presence come

  1231. with praise

  1232. and thankful

  1233. voice let

  1234. us sing

  1235. psalms to

  1236. him with

  1237. grace and

  1238. make a

  1239. joyful noise

  1240. and as we

  1241. sing these

  1242. verses to

  1243. the end of

  1244. verse 6

  1245. we're conscious

  1246. that we're

  1247. singing about

  1248. and we're

  1249. singing to

  1250. the one

  1251. who's described

  1252. in revelation

  1253. as our

  1254. great king

  1255. oh come

  1256. let us

  1257. sing to

  1258. the lord

  1259. oh come

  1260. let us

  1261. sing to

  1262. the lord

  1263. come

  1264. let us

  1265. every

  1266. one

  1267. a joyful

  1268. noise

  1269. make

  1270. to

  1271. the

  1272. moment

1273. And make a joyful noise.

1274. For God, a great Lord and great King,

1275. half of all God's ears,

1276. shares of the earth that met his hand,

1277. the strength of hills is his.

1278. To him the spacious sea belongs,

1279. for he the same did be.

1280. That high land also from his hands

  1281. is for man's worshiping.

1282. O come and let us worship him,

1283. let us bow down with hope,

1284. and on our knees before the Lord,

1285. our ringer, let us all.

1286. If you would let me get to the main door,

  1287. please, after the benediction.

1288. Now may the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ,

1289. the love of God the Father,

1290. and the communion of the Holy Spirit

1291. be with you now and evermore.

  1292. Amen.

  1293. Amen.

  1294. Amen.

  1295. Thank you.
