  1. Let's turn back to our reading in Galatians chapter 5.

    Galatians 5 chapter mention

  2. We're going to look at this section, verse 16, down to the end of the chapter.

  3. Just read again these words at the beginning of the chapter.

  4. But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

  5. Walk by the Spirit.

  6. Have you sinned this week?

  7. Or should I ask maybe, how often have you sinned this week?

  8. Because that's the reality of the lives that we live.

  9. We all sin in so many different ways.

  10. And there's a phrase used nowadays about people who are continually in and out of prison.

  11. It's maybe been used for quite some time now.

  12. It's those who maybe commit a crime, they're sent to prison, maybe they're only in for a short time.

  13. But before you know it, they're back in prison.

  14. And the phrase they use is repeat offenders.

  15. They are repeat offenders.

  16. They're released, but soon after re-offend.

  17. And this kind of cycle just goes on and on.

  18. Unless there's something that will come in to break that cycle.

  19. But it's not just about those who are in prison in that sense of being put in jail that this can apply to.

  20. You can apply it to the church here in Galatia.

  21. You could apply it to ourselves.

  22. The church in Galatia falls into this bracket because what we have as we read through this letter

  23. is a sense of being set free.

  24. The people being set free in Christ.

  25. But then within a short space of time finding themselves falling back into what we would call the bondage of sin.

  26. Sin just coming in.

  27. That repeat offending just going on and on.

  28. And you think, well, if they've been set free in Christ, surely that's the way that they will go on.

  29. That's the way that they will continue.

  30. But just look at our own lives as well, even as we come to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

  31. How often do we find ourselves slipping back into the old ways?

  32. Slipping back into sinning against God?

  33. It doesn't leave us.

  34. It doesn't go.

  35. And so often part of it is mainly our own fault, our own responsibility,

  36. because we are neglecting the things of God.

  37. And that was true with the people in Galatia, as it is probably true of ourselves.

  38. But what can we do about this?

  39. Are you a real offender today?

  40. I am.

  41. I know I am.

  42. Because God's word tells me.

  43. Even as you go through the end of this chapter, chapter 5,

  44. all you have to do is read through verse 19 to verse 21.

  45. And there you're brought into the kind of the works of the flesh, as it's called there.

  46. Sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of...

  47. You know, the list goes on.

  48. And can you not go through that list today and think to yourself,

  49. oh man, I've failed.

  50. I've sinned.

  51. I know I have because I can see myself in so many of these things.

  52. I am a real offender.

  53. I sinned before God.

  54. And that can give us a sense of feeling helpless.

  55. It can leave us feeling, well, what can we do?

  56. How can we change?

  57. And is it about ourselves changing?

  58. Is it about what we do?

  59. Well, no.

  60. It's a reminder to us that there's only one who can make a difference.

  61. And that is God.

  62. God through his Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.

  63. And God through his Spirit, as we see in this passage.

  64. Walk by the Spirit, by the Spirit of God.

  65. Because we all struggle in different ways.

  66. But God is there to help us.

  67. And the Word of God just reminds us of that.

  68. It's remarkable how you see these same struggles right throughout the Bible.

  69. So many people who you would think, oh, but they must have been so much better than us.

  70. In chapter 4 of this letter, Galatians, Paul makes reference to Abraham and Sarah and Hagar.

  71. They're from the Old Testament, from the book of Genesis.

  72. And the struggles that they had.

  73. They struggled.

  74. And you think, Abraham, he was a man sent by God.

  75. He was a father of the faith.

  76. Surely, he didn't have these struggles.

  77. But yes, he did.

  78. He struggled to trust God with his wife, Sarah.

  79. That God could take care of every situation that they were in.

  80. And instead, they took things into their own hands.

  81. Just like us.

  82. Just like the way we live so often.

  83. That we will do things that God cannot take care of it.

  84. And you think of Paul himself, who wrote this letter.

  85. He was a man who had a real past of many regrets, many sins.

  86. But was he completely changed?

  87. In many ways, you say yes.

  88. But he still had struggles, as we read of in Romans chapter 7, which he wrote as well.

    Romans 7 chapter mention

  89. And his words in verse 19.

  90. For what I do is not the good I want to do.

  91. No, the evil I do not want to do.

  92. This I keep on doing.

  93. How many times this week have you said something similar?

  94. How many times have you said, I wish I hadn't done that?

  95. How many times have you said this week, I wish I hadn't said that?

  96. How many times this week have you said, I wish I hadn't behaved like that?

  97. Again and again we can relate to these words.

  98. The good I want to do, I do not do.

  99. And so we are repeat offenders.

  100. It's a common struggle.

  101. It's a real struggle.

  102. And it's a struggle that reminds us that we cannot overcome sin alone.

  103. We cannot overcome it by ourselves.

  104. And that's where we are thankful we can turn to the word of God.

  105. Because as Paul says in Romans 7 verse 24, when he says,

    Romans 7:24

  106. What a wretched man I am again.

  107. Have we said that this week?

  108. Have we asked the question that he then asked,

  109. Who will rescue me from this body of death?

  110. Well, he's able to say,

  111. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  112. He is able to rescue us.

  113. And that's what we have a reminder of here in chapter 5 of Galatians as well.

  114. Very similar to what Paul is saying in Romans.

  115. The struggle that is real.

  116. The struggle that is evident.

  117. I want us to think about it in two ways this morning.

  118. First of all, we see the Christians' conflict.

  119. The struggle that is ongoing.

  120. The Christians' conflict.

  121. And then secondly, we see the Christians' harmony.

  122. The way that we are able to find help.

  123. So the first thing we see is the Christians' conflict.

  124. Are you in control of your life today?

  125. Are you feeling that sense of,

  126. I've got my plans, I've got my purposes?

  127. Are you winning in life, as many people would put it?

  128. Do you feel things are going well?

  129. Well, the answer probably depends on how you view life.

  130. And especially when it comes to thinking,

  131. Am I winning in the sense of walking with God?

  132. Someone once said that the Christian life is not a playground.

  133. It is a battlefield.

  134. Not a playground, but a battlefield.

  135. But how are you treating your life?

  136. How are you living your life?

  137. We've all maybe been in the playground.

  138. Maybe some of us are still in our younger days.

  139. We're in the playground.

  140. And there you think that life is fun.

  141. There's this light-hearted nature to life.

  142. Not much as serious.

  143. But as you go on in years, and as you go on in life,

  144. you find it's not a playground at all.

  145. It's a battlefield.

  146. It's a struggle.

  147. But have we or are we maturing in that sense?

  148. Are we growing in that sense of seeing life in all of its differences,

  149. all of its varieties, and all of its struggles?

  150. And recognizing that, hold on a minute.

  151. There's something serious about life here.

  152. It's not just frivolous.

  153. It's not just doing what I like, what I enjoy.

  154. But there are consequences to things.

  155. Paul here is speaking to the Galatians about two different types of lives that they can live.

  156. The first, we all live.

  157. But the second, we can only live through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

  158. The first life he's speaking of here is the sinful life.

  159. The life, as he calls it, under the flesh, with the desires of the flesh.

  160. The other is the life that we have through the Spirit.

  161. And they both have an outline of what this entails.

  162. There's lists for each of them.

  163. If you are living a life of the flesh, he gives you a list of things that you are caught up in.

  164. If you are to live a life in the Spirit, then he gives you a list that is very different.

  165. But what does he say about them?

  166. He's saying that they are contrary to one another.

  167. They are at conflict with one another.

  168. There is this battle going on, as he says there in the end of verse 17.

  169. The desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other,

  170. to keep you from doing the things you want to do.

  171. Similar to what Paul was saying in Romans.

  172. To keep you from doing the things you want to do.

  173. There's this battle going on.

  174. We are all born in sin.

  175. We are all born sinners.

  176. And therefore, you could almost say we just sin in our very nature, in our very being.

  177. But the grace of the Lord Jesus is able to set us free.

  178. That's what Paul says at the beginning of this chapter.

  179. Christ has set us free.

  180. But that's not just being free from the struggle of sin entirely.

  181. That struggle goes on while we are in this world.

  182. We struggle with sin because we are repeat offenders.

  183. You see it time and a time again.

  184. Paul warns that we struggle in this freedom.

  185. That we can easily fall back.

  186. And sin can so easily just take over our lives once more.

  187. He's warned of it at the end of that section.

  188. And in the beginning of this chapter, verse 1 to 15.

  189. The end in verse 15.

  190. But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

  191. There's this turning against one another.

  192. Don't be consumed by one another.

  193. And so now he's going on in verse 16 to the end of the chapter to give us warning.

  194. To be on our guard against this sinful struggle that life entails.

  195. And you could almost put it into four different categories.

  196. In verse 17.

  197. Now the work of the flesh are evident.

  198. And then he goes on to give a list of things there.

  199. You could put it into four categories.

  200. Four problem areas in Galatians.

  201. The days of Paul writing to the Galatians.

  202. And many other churches that he was writing to.

  203. But areas that we all struggle with.

  204. So many struggle with in our day as well.

  205. When you think of life of the flesh.

  206. As he is talking about here.

  207. And life of the spirit.

  208. Being contrary to each other.

  209. Against each other.

  210. We are reminded of how Jesus spoke about there being two paths in life.

  211. Two ways that we can go.

  212. There is the broad road.

  213. And there is the narrow road.

  214. And here initially we've got the broad way.

  215. The way that so many walk in today.

  216. And it's almost like we live in a world that says.

  217. If this isn't the way that you are walking.

  218. Then you are not normal.

  219. But this is the way that everyone should live their lives.

  220. This broad way.

  221. And think about the broad way that you see here.

  222. Paul outlining in verse 17.

  223. He's talking there about the broad way of relationships.

  224. In verse 17 he says.

  225. The desires of the flesh are against the spirit.

  226. The desires of the spirit are against the flesh.

  227. For they are opposed to each other.

  228. But then if you are led by the spirit.

  229. It's to be different.

  230. But in verse 19 he says.

  231. Now the works of the flesh are evident.

  232. Sexual immorality.

  233. Impurity.

  234. Sensuality.

  235. These are all things related to relationships.

  236. Relationships.

  237. Relationships that we see our world saying.

  238. Just do what you want.

  239. Live how you want.

  240. Be free to do what you want.

  241. Going against what God has given us.

  242. And ordained for us.

  243. But one man and one woman being together.

  244. All of these kinds of things.

  245. The world says the flesh is.

  246. That doesn't matter.

  247. That makes no difference.

  248. But it leads us away to destruction.

  249. And the same is true for all of these things.

  250. Think about the way of religion.

  251. He's talking there in verse 17.

  252. The works of the flesh are idolatry and sorcery.

  253. What has God said to us?

  254. He has said you will have no other gods before me.

  255. But yet here the works of the flesh are going down a way where we see.

  256. We can have many gods.

  257. And any god that we want.

  258. It doesn't matter.

  259. Think of the broad way of society.

  260. We are told we can just live as we want.

  261. You see it here when it speaks about enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy.

  262. All of these things.

  263. How often have you struggled with that this week?

  264. How often have you sinned in these ways this week?

  265. Rivalry, jealousy, ambition.

  266. Everything coming between us and the people around us and between us and God.

  267. There are so many struggles that we have there.

  268. The broad way of socializing we have here as well as Paul warns against drunkenness, orgies and things like these.

  269. We think our own day, our own nation has its struggles with drunkenness and immorality and all of these issues.

  270. It's not a new thing.

  271. It's been there for years.

  272. It was rife in the days of Paul.

  273. As he went round all these different places, this was a great problem.

  274. And he's saying these struggles are real.

  275. So when you go through all of these things, ask yourself, are you in control of your life?

  276. Are you handling all of these things well?

  277. Are you not sinning in any of these areas?

  278. We struggle.

  279. And if we struggle and go on struggling, he says you will not inherit the kingdom of God.

  280. There are consequences.

  281. Broad is a way that leads to destruction.

  282. But he's not saying you will not inherit the kingdom if you have committed these sins at any time.

  283. He is saying you will not inherit the kingdom if you are going on sinning.

  284. If you keep on going in these ways.

  285. But if you are struggling with these things today, don't despair.

  286. Yes, they can leave us feeling hopeless just like Paul.

  287. Wretched man that I am.

  288. Because there's a Christian struggle.

  289. But we see here there is also the Christian's harmony.

  290. So instead of being in conflict,

  291. instead of just being struggling without any hope,

  292. we realize that there is a way to find hope even in our struggles.

  293. And that is to walk by the Spirit.

  294. When we walk by the Spirit,

  295. there's this harmony then with the Lord and with others.

  296. As Jesus taught, there's another way,

  297. not just the broad way that leads to destruction,

  298. but there is a narrow path,

  299. and that road leads to life.

  300. And only a few will find it.

  301. As Paul said in Romans 7 verse 25,

    Romans 7:25

  302. Who will help me?

  303. Who will rescue me?

  304. Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

  305. And that is our great hope today.

  306. That in all the struggles with our sins,

  307. in all the struggles with our fears,

  308. and our worries, and our anxieties,

  309. thanks be to God that we can have victory.

  310. And it's through the Spirit we will find this harmony.

  311. As we see in verse 16,

  312. But I say, walk by the Spirit,

  313. and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

  314. Walk by the Spirit.

  315. This literally means,

  316. wherever you go,

  317. and as you go,

  318. walk with the Spirit.

  319. Don't leave the Spirit behind.

  320. Don't leave the Spirit of God

  321. at a place outside a door that you go through

  322. and think,

  323. I'll do my own thing now.

  324. I'll live my own way,

  325. and then I'll come back to the Spirit.

  326. This is saying, be led by the Spirit.

  327. Because He is your helper.

  328. Have Him with you at all times.

  329. And that word, being led,

  330. is linked to having a helper.

  331. And you think of those

  332. who have been released from prison.

  333. They're not just left to go off

  334. their own way with no one alongside them.

  335. Most of them are given a parole officer,

  336. someone they have to report to,

  337. someone to keep an eye on them.

  338. And this is for us as well,

  339. what we have here.

  340. We are repeat offenders.

  341. We keep on sinning.

  342. But it's not that we don't have anyone to help.

  343. We have the Holy Spirit,

  344. the one who is called alongside,

  345. the parole officer, if you like.

  346. He is there to help us.

  347. So if we walk by the Spirit,

  348. that we are helped to overcome

  349. the desires of the flesh.

  350. Through the Spirit and walking by the Spirit,

  351. we come closer to God

  352. and the one who is able to help us.

  353. Because there is this ongoing conflict.

  354. You see it here in verse 17.

  355. For the desires of the flesh

  356. are against the Spirit,

  357. and the desires of the Spirit

  358. are against the flesh.

  359. For they are opposed to each other

  360. to keep me from doing the things

  361. you want to do.

  362. Martin Luther,

  363. the one who was used by God

  364. back in the 16th century

  365. to bring a reformation to the church.

  366. You think of him.

  367. He must have been a godly man.

  368. He must have been so close to God.

  369. And everything was going well with him.

  370. He struggled.

  371. He struggled in life.

  372. And it was this verse,

  373. verse 17 in Galatians chapter 5,

    Galatians 5 chapter mention

  374. that really helped him

  375. to see that struggle

  376. and where his help would come from.

  377. He had the same struggle as Paul,

  378. for what I do is not the good I want to do.

  379. No, the evil I do not want to do.

  380. This I keep on doing.

  381. But when Martin Luther was suffering

  382. under this weight of guilt

  383. in his sin,

  384. a Christian friend of his

  385. called Johannes Staupitz

  386. said, Martin,

  387. quit looking at your sin

  388. and start looking at Jesus.

  389. He was so focused

  390. on where he was going wrong.

  391. He was taking his eyes off Jesus.

  392. And isn't that great advice

  393. to you and to me?

  394. When we are seeing ourselves

  395. just caught up in this life of sin,

  396. feeling hopeless,

  397. stop looking at your sin

  398. and start looking at Jesus.

  399. Keep your eyes on him.

  400. That is what Paul is saying here

  401. as he goes on.

  402. As he goes on to speak

  403. about walking in the Spirit.

  404. And he speaks then

  405. of the fruit of the Spirit

  406. in verse 22.

  407. We are to be careful

  408. how we walk.

  409. But then he does give us ways

  410. to walk.

  411. If we are to walk in the Spirit,

  412. how are we walking?

  413. How are we to keep ourselves

  414. in step with the Spirit?

  415. You maybe think

  416. there's going to be something

  417. dramatic,

  418. something powerful,

  419. maybe something only that

  420. a few people can do.

  421. And yet as Paul is teaching here,

  422. there's a simplicity to it.

  423. There's a simplicity

  424. to these things,

  425. the fruits of the Spirit.

  426. And if we practice these things,

  427. we find ourselves then

  428. walking closely to the Lord.

  429. And that is what keeps us.

  430. That is what guards us.

  431. And just look at the list there,

  432. the fruits of the Spirit.

  433. Love, joy,

  434. peace,

  435. patience,

  436. kindness,

  437. goodness,

  438. faithfulness,

  439. gentleness,

  440. self-control.

  441. I'm sure if you look through

  442. the first list,

  443. the fruits of the flesh,

  444. if you like,

  445. you see yourself there

  446. and you're saying,

  447. I failed,

  448. I failed,

  449. I failed.

  450. What about when you read

  451. the second list,

  452. the fruit of the Spirit?

  453. Love,

  454. joy,

  455. peace,

  456. patience,

  457. patience.

  458. Do you say again,

  459. oh,

  460. I failed.

  461. I failed to show love.

  462. I failed to have joy.

  463. I failed to show patience.

  464. I failed to be kind.

  465. again,

  466. it can leave us feeling helpless

  467. and hopeless again.

  468. But it's not there to make us feel worse.

  469. It's there to remind us what we have as we come close to God once again.

  470. Love.

  471. Love.

  472. Love.

  473. The fruit of the Spirit is love.

  474. We are to love God with all our heart

  475. and to love our neighbor as ourself.

  476. We cannot do that by ourselves.

  477. We need God to help us.

  478. Joy.

  479. Joy.

  480. So often the fruits of the flesh

  481. are what the world will tell us.

  482. This is where you will find joy.

  483. But there's no joy.

  484. But the fruit of the Spirit is joy.

  485. Real joy.

  486. True joy.

  487. The joy of the Lord

  488. as our strength,

  489. as it says in Nehemiah.

  490. Patience.

  491. Peace.

  492. We so often feel

  493. that we're lacking peace.

  494. But walk with the Spirit.

  495. Walk close to God.

  496. And He can give you a peace

  497. that passes understanding.

  498. Patience.

  499. We fail so often

  500. to be patient.

  501. But again,

  502. come close to the Lord.

  503. Walk in the Spirit.

  504. Trust in the Lord Jesus.

  505. He gives you a patience.

  506. Kindness.

  507. This is what we are to do

  508. to those around us.

  509. Instead of jealousy,

  510. fits of anger,

  511. rivalries,

  512. dissensions,

  513. divisions,

  514. the fruit of the Spirit

  515. is the opposite.

  516. Kindness.

  517. Goodness.

  518. Christian love in action.

  519. Faithfulness.

  520. An ability to trust God

  521. and obey Him.

  522. Gentleness.

  523. A restraint.

  524. It's not a weakness.

  525. But it's more

  526. what you would describe

  527. as power

  528. under control.

  529. Self-control.

  530. Refusing to do

  531. the things

  532. that you have

  533. in your power

  534. to do

  535. that you know are wrong.

  536. who can rescue me

  537. from these things?

  538. Thanks be to God

  539. in Christ Jesus

  540. our Lord.

  541. So we have this list

  542. not to make us feel worse,

  543. but to bring us closer.

  544. To recognize our sin

  545. in the list of the flesh,

  546. but to recognize

  547. the grace of God

  548. as we walk

  549. by the Spirit

  550. and the fruit

  551. of the Spirit.

  552. When you link

  553. to the list

  554. of the fruit

  555. of the Spirit,

  556. they're so opposite

  557. to the majority

  558. of life

  559. that we see

  560. around us.

  561. It's about

  562. pleasing ourselves,

  563. living for ourselves.

  564. But as we looked

  565. at recently

  566. in our communion

  567. weekend,

  568. Romans 12

    Romans 12:1

  569. verse 1 and 2,

  570. we are to offer

  571. our lives

  572. as a living sacrifice.

  573. And that is part

  574. of what our walking

  575. in the Spirit is.

  576. Giving ourselves

  577. over to God.

  578. It's not my desires

  579. that are first

  580. and foremost,

  581. but yours.

  582. Take my life,

  583. we see.

  584. let it be

  585. consecrated

  586. to them,

  587. given to God.

  588. So there's a reminder

  589. for us here

  590. to be faithfully

  591. living

  592. a life

  593. in the Spirit.

  594. There's a sense

  595. of this almost

  596. being a quiet

  597. behind-the-scenes

  598. way of living.

  599. It's a call

  600. to be faithful,

  601. a call

  602. to be close

  603. to God.

  604. And it's there

  605. for us,

  606. for every one

  607. of us.

  608. Not just for some,

  609. but for all.

  610. It doesn't look

  611. impressive,

  612. maybe,

  613. to the world.

  614. Maybe it looks

  615. too simple

  616. for ourselves

  617. today.

  618. But it's there

  619. for our reason.

  620. It's there

  621. for our good.

  622. It's there

  623. because it's

  624. the narrow way

  625. that leads

  626. to life

  627. in the Lord

  628. Jesus Christ.

  629. And so we are

  630. to walk

  631. by the Spirit.

  632. How would you

  633. judge

  634. the success

  635. of an inmate

  636. who's been

  637. released from

  638. prison?

  639. How would you

  640. judge if it's

  641. been a success?

  642. Well,

  643. very often

  644. it's those

  645. you don't hear

  646. anything of

  647. again.

  648. they go back

  649. out of prison.

  650. They've turned

  651. from that way

  652. of life.

  653. And they live

  654. a quieter,

  655. better way

  656. of life.

  657. they don't

  658. re-offend.

  659. We are

  660. repeat offenders

  661. ourselves.

  662. But what would

  663. be a success

  664. story in your

  665. life,

  666. in my life

  667. today?

  668. Would it not

  669. be just to

  670. go on quietly

  671. living,

  672. knowing that

  673. we sin,

  674. but not to

  675. go on seeing

  676. as that is

  677. the only way,

  678. but to see

  679. a better way

  680. and to seek

  681. to walk

  682. close to

  683. the Spirit,

  684. a life

  685. close to

  686. Him.

  687. Because as

  688. we do,

  689. the fruit of

  690. the Spirit

  691. is then ours.

  692. And we can

  693. live in light

  694. of all of

  695. these things,

  696. love,

  697. joy,

  698. peace,

  699. patience,

  700. kindness,

  701. goodness,

  702. faithfulness,

  703. gentleness,

  704. self-control.

  705. Come and

  706. walk with

  707. Him.

  708. That is the

  709. invitation

  710. of the

  711. gospel,

  712. to find

  713. your freedom

  714. in Christ,

  715. not to go

  716. on sinning,

  717. but to come

  718. and walk

  719. closely with

  720. Him,

  721. knowing that

  722. even then

  723. in our

  724. sin,

  725. we have

  726. one who

  727. is able

  728. to forgive

  729. us.

  730. But day

  731. by day,

  732. coming closer,

  733. walking

  734. with Him,

  735. learning

  736. and living

  737. in light

  738. of His

  739. Word.

  740. Let us

  741. pray.

  742. Lord,

  743. our

  744. gracious

  745. God,

  746. we do

  747. thank

  748. You

  749. for Your

  750. Word that

  751. so often

  752. challenges us,

  753. it convicts

  754. us,

  755. for we know

  756. our sins

  757. that are

  758. many.

  759. But we

  760. thank You

  761. too,

  762. Lord,

  763. that reminds

  764. us of

  765. Your mercy,

  766. Your mercy

  767. that's always

  768. more,

  769. Your mercy

  770. that helps

  771. us to

  772. overcome,

  773. and Your

  774. mercy that

  775. helps us

  776. to live

  777. more closely

  778. to You.

  779. and we

  780. pray,

  781. Lord,

  782. that You

  783. would help

  784. us to

  785. know the

  786. fruit of

  787. the Spirit

  788. in our

  789. own lives,

  790. that that

  791. is how we

  792. would long

  793. to live

  794. and how we

  795. would long

  796. to walk,

  797. with that

  798. helper beside

  799. us,

  800. with that

  801. helper with

  802. us.

  803. So teach us

  804. by Your Word

  805. and guide us

  806. through Your

  807. Spirit,

  808. as we ask

  809. all in the

  810. name of

  811. Jesus.

  812. Amen.

  813. We're going

  814. to conclude

  815. by singing

  816. to God's

  817. praise in

  818. Psalm 56,

  819. the Sing

  820. Psalms version,

  821. Psalm 56.

  822. We'll sing

  823. from verse

  824. 10 down

  825. to the end

  826. of the

  827. Psalm,

  828. Psalm 56,

  829. page 74,

  830. the tune

  831. of Stuttgart.

  832. In the

  833. Lord,

  834. whose word

  835. I honour,

  836. in my

  837. God,

  838. I praise

  839. His Word,

  840. I will

  841. trust and

  842. not be

  843. fearful,

  844. what can

  845. man do

  846. to me,

  847. Lord?

  848. We'll sing

  849. from verse

  850. 10 to the

  851. end of

  852. the Psalm

  853. to God's

  854. praise.

  855. In the

  856. Lord's

  857. word I

  858. honour,

  859. in my

  860. God I

  861. praise

  862. His

  863. word.

  864. I will

  865. trust and

  866. not be

  867. fearful,

  868. what can

  869. man do

  870. to me,

  871. Lord?

  872. I have

  873. taken

  874. hours

  875. before

  876. you,

  877. to my

  878. God

  879. I will

  880. be

  881. true,

  882. sacrifice

  883. of

  884. thanksgiving

  885. !

  886. I will

  887. gladly

  888. give

  889. to

  890. you,

  891. for

  892. you

  893. kept

  894. my

  895. feet

  896. from

  897. stumbling,

  898. and

  899. from

  900. death

  901. you

  902. set

  903. me

  904. free,

  905. so

  906. that

  907. I

  908. may

  909. walk

  910. before

  911. you,

  912. and

  913. the

  914. light

  915. of

  916. life

  917. may

  918. see.

  919. after

  920. the

  921. benediction

  922. I'll

  923. go to

  924. the

  925. door to

  926. my

  927. right,

  928. we'll

  929. close

  930. with

  931. the

  932. benediction.

  933. Now may

  934. grace,

  935. mercy,

  936. and

  937. peace

  938. from

  939. God,

  940. Father,

  941. Son,

  942. and

  943. Holy

  944. Spirit

  945. rest

  946. upon

  947. and

  948. abide

  949. with

  950. you

  951. all

  952. now

  953. and

  954. forever

  955. more.

  956. Amen.

  957. Thank you.
