  1. Hello, everyone, and welcome to this week's episode

  2. of Trinity Talks. My name is Kyla, and I am joined

  3. here by two Trinity parishioners, and we're going

  4. to chat a little bit more about the Holy Spirit.

  5. Yeah, and the role that the Holy Spirit plays

  6. in our faith and in our life. And yeah, kind

  7. of. try to demystify this mysterious being, I

  8. think, a little bit. So thank you so much for

  9. joining me, folks. Thank you. Do you want to

  10. just go ahead and do some introductions first?

  11. Do you want to start us off here? Sure. My name

  12. is James Chung. I've been attending Trinity since

  13. 1998. I'm married with two children. My wife

  14. is Anne -Marie, and the children are Karen and

  15. Kevin. And yeah. That sounds great. Thank you.

  16. And what about you? Hi, I'm Rick. Rick Bradshaw.

  17. I've been here since 2004. Most famous for being

  18. Ali's husband. Okay. It's a good, important role.

  19. Good. So first I want to start us off with a

  20. little bit of word association. So when you hear

  21. the word Holy Spirit, what's the first word that

  22. sort of pops into your brain? Peace. Peace. Okay.

  23. I don't know why. Okay. That's lovely. I love

  24. that for you. What about for you, James? For

  25. me, it's presence. It's the kind of presence

  26. that changes people inside out. That once you

  27. start thinking about it, you can't stop. that

  28. basically comforts you it helps you sure when

  29. when you ask for it sure yeah yeah yeah that's

  30. so cool i think both of those answers are coming

  31. from like deep experiences with the holy spirit

  32. i think right because if i was to sort of ask

  33. the general public when i say holy spirit what

  34. comes to mind i think it would be like one of

  35. the first things that came to mind for me is

  36. like Yeah. Because people talk about like the

  37. Holy ghost and they're like, there's, I remember

  38. as a teenager, someone like talking about the

  39. Holy spirit as a Holy ghost and then being like,

  40. well, but it's a friendly ghost. It's not like

  41. a scary, you know, like blue kind of ghost. But

  42. yeah, I don't know. I think there's just lots

  43. of different ideas about what the Holy spirit

  44. is and people don't really sort of know what

  45. to do with the spirit. I think. Yeah. One, one

  46. other word that. actually came to mind when we

  47. were talking about it is something that i learned

  48. i guess a trinity yeah um the word stool and

  49. and what i mean by that is i was explaining the

  50. holy spirit is it's like if the trinity is like

  51. a free legged stool okay so we all know god the

  52. father god the son yeah but we always miss the

  53. holy holy spirit sure and without that third

  54. leg the stool won't stand sure so that to me

  55. it's always like a explains to me what the holy

  56. spirit is It's God. Sure. The Trinity is without

  57. the third leg. Yeah. It doesn't explain it. So

  58. that to me was always something that I appreciated

  59. learning from, you know, it's not as mysterious

  60. as, you know, what is it? You know, we, we know

  61. God is father. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You like, you

  62. need all the bits. Right. Right. Yeah, so then,

  63. as you sort of said, sometimes people don't learn

  64. about the Holy Spirit or they neglect to think

  65. about the Holy Spirit. So in your lives, when

  66. do you think you sort of first really learned

  67. about the Holy Spirit? And how did that happen

  68. in your life? Do you want to start us off? Yeah,

  69. I mean, it's interesting you mentioned the Holy

  70. Ghost, right? I remember that as a child. That's

  71. just weird, right? I don't think it's a helpful...

  72. very helpful term actually i don't know where

  73. it came from but i'm not dissing any religion

  74. any branch of christianity but it's um so yeah

  75. growing up i think i did the alpha holy spirit

  76. weekend yesterday and uh they talk about the

  77. guy who starts off he says yeah i remember with

  78. prayers at school the father son the holy ghost

  79. or the holy spirit right but he said we never

  80. ever talked about it apart from that so some

  81. some parts of christianity don't really focus

  82. on it whereas you've got pentecostals the people

  83. that really get it right and the whole focus

  84. so when did i so yeah so fast forward i i you

  85. know i came to jesus when i came to trinity um

  86. so it was talked about um but i yeah i guess

  87. probably like equivalent of an alpha course like

  88. we did uh christianity 101 i think okay yeah

  89. that's when they start to talk about how you

  90. can have a personal relationship with sure with

  91. Jesus with God um through the Holy Spirit and

  92. then I was like oh because I remember Pentecost

  93. it was Pentecost Sunday right sure but that's

  94. the kind of the the tongs of fire just remember

  95. from Sunday school but that's not really that

  96. personal relationship and I think that's that's

  97. a big change in your when you're thinking and

  98. you're when you actually experience uh god through

  99. the holy spirit then you're like oh it's not

  100. it's just a way it's a way of explaining how

  101. he connects with us i guess sure yeah yeah yeah

  102. yeah so it's that i think interesting then for

  103. you that like it sort of came around the same

  104. time as like experiencing the rest of christianity

  105. in some sense right that it was it was a really

  106. sort of integrated model and i think that's super

  107. helpful What about for you, James? For me, it's

  108. kind of different. I first learned about the

  109. Holy Spirit when reading the Bible about Pentecost.

  110. And the image that always stayed in my head at

  111. the time was the flame over people's head. That

  112. to me was the Holy Spirit. Very dramatic and

  113. scary. So that's the first part when I learned

  114. about the Holy Spirit. And when I first, when

  115. I felt, I believe that I received the Holy Spirit

  116. was at my confirmation. So I was around 13 and

  117. the laying of the hands of the bishop to me that

  118. was like as a symbol. So it was me accepting

  119. Jesus from my godparents and parents who baptized

  120. me. So it was an intention. to accept Jesus.

  121. And I felt the symbolism, I guess, of the sacrament

  122. of confirmation was the laying of the Holy Spirit.

  123. I don't know whether it's true or false, but

  124. that's what I learned. Sure. So that was my first.

  125. And the first time I really experienced it was

  126. at a youth retreat where I guess I saw the Holy

  127. Spirit acting up in other people. Like they were

  128. filled with emotions. I guess in some ways now

  129. it's more of a charismatic way of feeling the

  130. Holy Spirit. But I remember praying to God, how

  131. come I never felt that? I see all these people

  132. feeling it, but is there something wrong with

  133. me? So it was kind of three ways. And basically,

  134. after a while, I learned that really God is not

  135. that far. God is in us. And that's through the

  136. Holy Spirit. I kind of accept it. I don't have

  137. to feel the same. my transformation was a little

  138. bit slow and different. Sure, sure. But yeah.

  139. So the three first times were the Holy Spirit,

  140. but that's how it was. Yeah, I think that like

  141. there is sometimes that feeling like maybe we're

  142. missing something if we're not having a really

  143. dramatic experience or a really emotional experience.

  144. And like those are really real. Like people feel

  145. that and that happens, but that's not how the

  146. Holy Spirit works in every single person, right?

  147. Like we don't need to have these, These really

  148. dramatic moments. Not to say that those are bad.

  149. No. At all. They're good. They're very good.

  150. Yeah. But yeah, to sort of say the Holy Spirit

  151. works in us in different ways. Yeah. Yeah, for

  152. sure. Okay. So how would you say that the Holy

  153. Spirit has sort of been part of your life? Like,

  154. what does it look like? Are there moments or

  155. stories where you can say, ah, this was the Holy

  156. Spirit sort of working in me? Yeah. To move on

  157. from what? James said, I've done the same thing.

  158. I've done the, again, mentioned the Alpha Holy

  159. Spirit weekend, but that's when you see it in

  160. other people. Yeah. And you experience it together,

  161. actually, as well, in those situations. But that's

  162. a dramatic, very obvious sign. Yeah. But then,

  163. now I look back and realize that times, the nudges,

  164. the things, why did I... you know god is sort

  165. of nudging you more gently and you realize afterwards

  166. oh actually there's the holy spirit was guiding

  167. me but i actually didn't realize it sure right

  168. so um that's that's fascinating to me i start

  169. look back okay yeah i just didn't know it so

  170. if you feel it in a dramatic way and then you

  171. realize oh and then so you start to um look out

  172. for that sure aware of it and you think it's

  173. like it's some people call it conscience as well

  174. i don't know i don't know the answer but yeah

  175. sure it's it's more than conscience i think it's

  176. okay uh you know and you have to learn to be

  177. open to it yep and to recognize it when it's

  178. happening sure sure easy to say but not always

  179. yes not always easy to do for sure for sure yeah

  180. and then like i think the point that you raised

  181. there but like being able to see it retrospectively

  182. is like really helpful because yeah i think sometimes

  183. we just don't know in the moment we're just doing

  184. the thing that feels right to do or the thing

  185. that feels like we should do for some reason

  186. um But yeah, to be able to look back on it and

  187. say, oh, God was actually in that, right, is

  188. really valuable. And yeah, a skill that we have

  189. to hone, I think. Yeah, I think that's the key

  190. is to recognize it and look out for it and be

  191. aware of it. And then you feel it more. You really

  192. get God can talk to you. You've got to test it.

  193. You've got to be careful. Is it my voice or is

  194. it God's voice? You've got to test these things.

  195. It's not simple. It was easy. There won't be

  196. much point, I guess. We have free will. We've

  197. got bad free will and good free will. For sure.

  198. What would you add to that, James? I think it's

  199. very similar to what Rick just said. Holy Spirit

  200. is part of everyday life so to me the way I would

  201. think is I have to think of it more as something

  202. I intentionally want like asking and receiving

  203. like yeah so if I if I feel like anxious or anything

  204. I would ask and I would I would say automatically,

  205. but I would feel at peace. And if I get angry

  206. or anything, I would say, just help me. So I

  207. kind of, in that way, in everyday life, I try

  208. to get the Holy Spirit as a helper. Whenever

  209. I feel there's a need for it, and like you say,

  210. it's hard to know whether it's my decision or

  211. whether it's God's will wanting me to do it.

  212. But I feel that when you're, When your nudge

  213. is the word I normally use to go help somebody,

  214. do it. Don't even question because it's something

  215. good. It must be coming from God, right? And

  216. when I'm tempted, I know it's something bad because,

  217. again, to me, it's the Holy Spirit telling me,

  218. well, think about it. Why are you so anxious

  219. about this thing? Maybe it's not something you

  220. should be doing, right? It's just this kind of

  221. nudge. It's not. But you just feel, I guess,

  222. the way to approach it is ask. Sure, sure. Yeah,

  223. I think that that's such an important piece,

  224. right? That the Holy Spirit, we can ask God and

  225. God will give us the Holy Spirit, right? Scripture

  226. promises us that, right? And it's not something...

  227. we ask for one time and then we're set for life,

  228. right? Like, yes, we can receive the Holy Spirit

  229. really powerfully in one particular moment. But

  230. every day you need to go back and say, God, lead

  231. me through this thing. Spirit, like, be present

  232. here. Speak to me. Yeah. It's that continually

  233. going back to prayer and asking again and again.

  234. Yeah, for sure. So if you then think about, you

  235. know, we sort of said, like, that the holy spirit

  236. we can sometimes think of it like our conscience

  237. right and and but it it is a bit different i

  238. think so there were things that you guys would

  239. say like would help people sort of distinguish

  240. between those two things yeah yeah i think we

  241. talked about testing yeah testing so what does

  242. that testing look like yeah so i i mean there's

  243. a number of ways but i think it's like one way

  244. is is this um you know like in in line with what

  245. we think is it is it good right i mean we know

  246. what's good and we know what's bad right sure

  247. sometimes but you know not always but you know

  248. okay so is it good is it um you know is it in

  249. line with like you know read the bible we know

  250. scripture we know what god's plan is sure for

  251. the world you can pretty much often Is this really

  252. part of God's plan or not? Maybe you don't know,

  253. but there's that. Sure. Yeah, and is it building

  254. someone up or is it something that builds people

  255. up? Is it something that is helpful as opposed

  256. to selfish, I guess? Sure. It's not easy. It's

  257. not always clear -cut. Yeah, what would you add

  258. to that? I would say the same thing. Normally,

  259. when I try to think of whether it's the Holy

  260. Spirit who's guiding me or not, I try to memorize

  261. the spirit, the fruits of the Holy Spirit. So

  262. I would say, does it bring joy? Does it bring

  263. peace? Is it self -control? Does it nudge me

  264. to serve others? That's kind of how I see the

  265. work, I guess, in my life, so to speak. You're

  266. feeling anxious and you're really desperate and

  267. you pray to God and say, I'm surrendering this

  268. to you. And then you feel that peace. You know

  269. where it's coming from, right? And similarly,

  270. when I'm nudged to see somebody and help and

  271. I'm willing to listen and take the time and try

  272. to help. Again, to me, it's the works. It's the

  273. result of the Holy Spirit. I wouldn't call it

  274. the works. To me, when I read the fruit of the

  275. Holy Spirit, it's basically the result of Him

  276. working in us. Sure. And that's what it can bring

  277. so much. Yeah, the other thing I should have

  278. said is also you can ask other people. That's

  279. the bit I missed. You've got people you trust

  280. in your life. faithful christians and yeah run

  281. it by them that's right yeah yeah yeah yeah so

  282. i think like what this makes me think about is

  283. therefore we don't follow the holy spirit like

  284. in isolation right it's not just like ah this

  285. spirit this sense of god in me is the only thing

  286. that guides me no we are led in community we're

  287. led through scripture through the example of

  288. jesus right like all of these things come together

  289. to help us understand how the holy spirit works

  290. in our lives yeah Yeah. And I think the other

  291. thing, yeah, I would also sort of highlight the

  292. fruit of the spirit as like a way to think about

  293. that. Right. Because Jesus says in the gospels,

  294. you know, there's going to be all kinds of false

  295. teachers who come up. And how will you know what

  296. is true and what is not? You will know them by

  297. their fruit. Right. Right. And then Paul gives

  298. us later in Galatians, this list of love, joy.

  299. Peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,

  300. gentleness, self -control. I think that's all.

  301. You got it. Okay, great. Thank you. Yeah, so

  302. if those are the things that are the result of

  303. our works or the result of whatever this decision

  304. is that we're making, right? We ask, okay, is

  305. this decision going to be one full of love, full

  306. of kindness and gentleness and faithfulness?

  307. There's a pretty good chance that that's God.

  308. That's the Spirit leading you, right? Yeah. What

  309. about in terms of, you know, like spiritual gifts

  310. or in terms of, you know, like how we experience

  311. a conviction or comfort? Like how would you say

  312. you know when you're experiencing the work of

  313. the Holy Spirit in sort of those ways? Or like

  314. how do those pieces relate, do you think? Yeah,

  315. I guess in many ways it's related. For me, for

  316. example, it's like if I feel kind of a peace

  317. that I can't explain. I know I shouldn't be that

  318. relaxed about it, but certainly I do, right?

  319. Or if I'm feeling... That I need to do something

  320. about a certain situation and helping other people.

  321. Again, I go back to, I guess, what Jesus told

  322. us we are supposed to do is love God, love others,

  323. and then, you know, come back with the Holy Spirit

  324. to fill us every day, right? Sure. When you think

  325. about those things that's happening in everyday

  326. life, sometimes I would even feel like I'm watching

  327. a sunset from a beautiful beach. I said, that's

  328. God at work. I mean, who can create that, right?

  329. So it's little things, but also big things. It's

  330. like, you know, on an everyday basis. And what

  331. I always say is like... trying to have an attitude

  332. of gratitude. If you think of the things that

  333. God is doing in your life that's good, that to

  334. me is basically, it's the Holy Spirit just telling

  335. you these are the good things that can happen.

  336. I often thought about the gifts of the spirit.

  337. And, you know, in the Bible and everywhere else,

  338. the Holy Spirit. I don't have much of that. So

  339. how do I fit in? But when I think and try to

  340. kind of reflect on it, I think there's a certain

  341. kind of wisdom and counsel that I'm comfortable

  342. with. Like people come to me for a lot of advice.

  343. And I say, why is that? Ever since I was from

  344. university college, right? People used to call

  345. me a nickname like Papa, which is Father. Because

  346. they like the advice from me. I've never learned

  347. to do that. To me, it's something else. And when

  348. I reflect back after learning about the Holy

  349. Spirit more, I say, it must be. So these are

  350. the kind of things that to me shows that the

  351. Holy Spirit does work in life. Often, And how

  352. do you say it? When I feel like I'm tempted,

  353. there's weaknesses. To me, if I don't do it again,

  354. it's the Holy Spirit. Because I do pray about

  355. it. I feel I need to get that help. And just

  356. realizing that it is a weakness and something

  357. that I need to work on is the conviction to me

  358. from the Holy Spirit that tells me, well... You

  359. should do something about it or not do something

  360. about it, right? Sure, yeah, yeah, yeah. So these

  361. are the kind of things that, again, it's what

  362. the intention, I guess, is important. Yeah, so

  363. the Holy Spirit both, like, gives you these good

  364. gifts, these abilities to do things, and guards

  365. you from the things that you shouldn't be doing.

  366. Right, right. And this is, yeah, these different

  367. sort of roles are both part of what's happening.

  368. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. What would you sort of add

  369. to that? Yeah, no, I'd like that. It has started

  370. off with saying peace, right? So you're at peace,

  371. you know, that feeling that it's probably okay.

  372. Yep. But equally the absence of peace, agitation.

  373. Yep. You're kind of, you just know, right? You're

  374. not as kind of uncomfortable. Yep. You know,

  375. man, shouldn't be doing this, right? Sure. And

  376. as you said, then you just pray on it. and so

  377. the first step is always acknowledge right you've

  378. got to acknowledge you okay god i shouldn't be

  379. doing this and then help me yeah please help

  380. me yeah and he does right and that's that's the

  381. spirit comes alongside to help you sure um and

  382. you know pokes you why am i so uncomfortable

  383. yeah because you don't be doing it right you

  384. know what this is you need to do something else

  385. yeah i like that yeah and okay so then i also

  386. think though like And we're talking about, you

  387. know, sometimes experiencing the Holy Spirit

  388. is uncomfortable, like when we're being convicted,

  389. when we're being told, you know, like maybe you

  390. shouldn't be doing that thing. But I also wonder

  391. if sometimes the things that the Holy Spirit

  392. asks us to do positively, like is also uncomfortable

  393. sometimes, right? Like it's not always super

  394. happy. It doesn't always feel like the most loving,

  395. joyful thing, right? So like, yeah, how do we...

  396. know or how do we experience the Holy Spirit

  397. in those challenging times as well, do you think?

  398. What helps us get through that? To me, it's praying

  399. and talking to God. When things like that happen

  400. to me, I always say, God, are you sure you want

  401. me to do this? I'm not sure I'm equipped to do

  402. this, right? Are you sure? you know what i just

  403. do it and then if it works out i know it's from

  404. you if it doesn't work out so that's how i kind

  405. of got get around it i said if i really feel

  406. i need to do something and i feel it's coming

  407. from the god i don't necessarily think of the

  408. holy spirit but it is him working in us right

  409. yeah yeah so then i would do it and then from

  410. the result of it and i would say okay that was

  411. what you wanted me to do, and I now know why,

  412. even though I wasn't comfortable, like you say.

  413. There are many things. I'm still, to me, with

  414. the Holy Spirit, I'm still worried that I'm not

  415. doing as much of the commission, of bringing

  416. other people to Jesus. I find it hard. And when

  417. I feel it's happening, I pray to God, give me

  418. something to talk about. Sure. I don't know that

  419. person. On the other hand, I have like my daughter

  420. and my son -in -law, they will go out and talk

  421. to anybody. Sure. They're just traveling now

  422. and they're just saying how they talk to somebody,

  423. the Uber driver, and they were now praying, let's

  424. pray for, hopefully he can. Yeah. But this is

  425. the kind of, I would love, but I know it's not

  426. me. It's like my personal character, I guess.

  427. But I know it's something that I'm required to

  428. do because God did say, love God, love others,

  429. but bring others to me, make disciples. And that's

  430. the part I feel I'm still weak. Sure. And I still

  431. need lots of prayers for that. Sure. Yeah. There's

  432. all. sorts of areas where we all need to grow

  433. right yeah and i think the spirit works with

  434. our different personalities right so like yeah

  435. i'm also probably not the person who's going

  436. to pray with her uber driver that's just not

  437. my personality but in the like sort of as you

  438. were saying you know people would come to you

  439. for advice and come to you for support right

  440. and that is also a way of bringing people to

  441. jesus so just yeah working with these different

  442. sort of ways yeah yeah Yeah, there's a previous

  443. pastor at this church said that if you want God

  444. to show up, the Holy Spirit to show up in your

  445. life, put yourself in a position where he has

  446. to. I've done that a couple of times. I don't

  447. know what I want to do. I don't know what to

  448. do. I don't know what to do. Yeah, yeah. Okay,

  449. I remember those words. I go and do it, and he's

  450. going to be there for you, right? Sure. And it's

  451. happened to me a couple of times where I just

  452. didn't know what to do. Yeah. couple of times,

  453. people were really sick. You don't know what

  454. to say, what to do. Sure. But go and see them.

  455. Go and read the Bible. Yep. Yeah. Pray with them.

  456. Yep. And I said, Lord, I don't know what to do.

  457. Don't worry. Yeah. Go. Yeah. And he shows up.

  458. Yeah. In those situations, you put yourself where

  459. you have no... You have no option. I don't know

  460. what to do. God, you have to show up here. Because

  461. I'm hopeless. I need you. Yeah. Yeah. That takes

  462. so much faith. A lot of courage. I've done it

  463. all the time. I've done it a few times. Sure.

  464. Sure. But yeah. Yeah. And I think the other piece

  465. when I think about, you know, dealing with the

  466. challenging bits is like making sure that we

  467. have a supportive community around us. Right.

  468. That if God is calling me to do something that

  469. feels really hard to do, chances are God is not

  470. calling me to do that in isolation. Right. Right.

  471. Or at least without the support and affirmation

  472. of other people. Right. If I'm feeling like so,

  473. for example, right. Like I've been thinking about,

  474. you know, discerning this this call to ministry.

  475. Does God want me to sort of pursue this this

  476. path? Right. And it feels really hard and scary

  477. to me. But there have been people all along the

  478. way who have said, Kyla, like we're with you

  479. in this. We see this in you and like all of these

  480. things. Right. So. It's those people that help

  481. me believe that this is what the Holy Spirit

  482. is calling me to do, even though it's a hard

  483. thing. Yeah. Right? Yeah. So we've talked a lot

  484. about sort of our experiences of the Holy Spirit

  485. and what that sort of looked like. How would

  486. you say, like, are there specific resources or

  487. specific practices that have really helped you

  488. to grow in your understanding of the Holy Spirit?

  489. Maybe things that other people might want to

  490. sort of try as well to get a little bit more

  491. meat, a little bit more understanding. To me,

  492. it's basically intentionally spending time with

  493. God. And that's through many things. It's reading

  494. the Bible, doing prayers as a routine every day.

  495. recognizing God's work in your everyday life,

  496. trying to look for opportunities to serve others,

  497. how you spend your time or money. Like it's intentionally

  498. doing things that you feel God wants you to do

  499. as part of his plan. Sure. And it always goes

  500. back to what did Jesus call us to do? Yeah. Love

  501. God, love others, and bring others to Him. Right.

  502. And make disciples. So if you do any of those

  503. things, and you do it every day, I feel the Holy

  504. Spirit will help us, I hope, bring us closer

  505. to God and to God's will. And, oh, there's one

  506. thing I did mention. Yeah. Intentionally surrendering

  507. our will to God to let Him do. His work is something

  508. I do almost every day because I feel like I want

  509. to do things, but I say, I will do them if God

  510. aligns, will aligns with mine, right? And that's

  511. the part which, as Rick mentioned, is the hard

  512. thing to do. Which one is my wants and which

  513. one is actually God's will, right? Both looks

  514. very interesting. That's why I want them. So

  515. doing that every day is, I think, that's when

  516. the Holy Spirit really helps us. Right. Because

  517. we're intentionally wanting His help. And the

  518. way I explain this is God is never far from us.

  519. He's in us, right? So He's in us through the

  520. Holy Spirit. And He wants... to show others Jesus

  521. through us. So through our actions, through our

  522. thoughts. So if you choose kindness over anger,

  523. that's one way. And you want other people to

  524. see it because they can see those actions. And

  525. if they know who is helping you, then... Hopefully

  526. that will bring them to ask the question. Sure.

  527. Yeah. Yeah. So it's a lot of prayer, right? And

  528. a lot of like honesty with God too, right? Communicating.

  529. And just sort of saying, yeah, here's where we're

  530. at. Here's what I'm feeling right now and help

  531. me God to walk through this. Yeah. Yeah. What

  532. would you sort of add? Yeah, I think that's great.

  533. And listening, right? Yes. Yeah, listening. I,

  534. you know, often go to prayer, to go up with a

  535. shopping list of prayer. Sure, sure, sure, sure.

  536. And like, finished that, I finished, right? I'm

  537. not listening. I'm just carrying like this list

  538. of things. I'm just like, why? Just be, be with,

  539. it's not like a, if you want a friendship with

  540. someone, a relationship, you don't just ask them.

  541. all these things you actually listen right yeah

  542. so that's one but i think for me also it's with

  543. other people right and and the most times i felt

  544. the holy spirit is like in worship and when we're

  545. all together yeah um i went to big like uh christian

  546. conference in the uk and man everyone was worshiping

  547. and it was just you could palpably feel the holy

  548. spirit yeah so i think doing doing it together

  549. right and i i would say people in their life

  550. groups challenge you guys um guys and girls go

  551. when you're in a small group say let's let's

  552. ask the holy spirit to come let's actually spend

  553. time in prayer together and let's ask the holy

  554. spirit to come on us and and be with us okay

  555. because we that's not very anglican right it's

  556. not sure sure pentecostal guys people are you

  557. know all over that right yeah so we don't have

  558. to go that far but like Let's, I think we did

  559. one time we did like a, we read the same thing

  560. over and over. I can't really call that. Oh,

  561. like the Lectio kind of? We're all reading the

  562. same words together. Come Holy Spirit, come Holy

  563. Spirit, bless me Father. And just kind of all

  564. saying it together. Sounds a bit weird and culty,

  565. but it's not. I promise you it's not. Sure, sure.

  566. We were all sitting together and we did this

  567. for quite a long period of time. Sure. Afterwards,

  568. we were all just like, wow. We all felt like,

  569. ah, I feel at peace. I felt the Spirit come.

  570. It came with us. We're sitting there together.

  571. I would say that's a challenge for the life groups.

  572. Try and do that. Ask the Holy Spirit. Yeah, so

  573. I think for folks who are wanting more of the

  574. Holy Spirit in their life, getting yourself in

  575. a community of Christians, people who want to

  576. journey that journey with you. Um, yeah. And

  577. spending time in prayer, listening in prayer,

  578. which is really, I think, awkward sometimes,

  579. especially silence. It's that space. Um, yeah.

  580. Spending time in scripture, figuring out, you

  581. know, that God, God speaks through scripture.

  582. God speaks through people. God speaks in lots

  583. of different ways, but when you're reading scripture,

  584. God has given it to us as, as this conduit of

  585. God's word. Right. And so. That's definitely

  586. a way that God leads us. Yeah, and then there

  587. are all kinds of other resources if people want

  588. to sort of read things about the Holy Spirit

  589. and understand. Yeah, I'd really sort of encourage

  590. folks to ask questions. The Trinity, the Spirit,

  591. is a really confusing concept. It is. But God

  592. can handle all of our questions. Thank you so

  593. much, folks, for this really, I think, encouraging

  594. conversation. Thank you. And thank you for joining

  595. in on this week's episode of Trinity Talks. Whether

  596. you feel like you've had experiences with the

  597. Holy Spirit or not, I pray that you have been

  598. able to find some wisdom here. You've been able

  599. to find some inspiration to, yeah, just ask God

  600. for more of the Spirit's love and life in you.

  601. And we will see you again next week.
