  1. God doesn't wait for you to love him before he

  2. starts loving you. God loved you first. In fact, the

  3. only reason you're breathing is because God made you to

  4. love you. And the most famous verse in the Bible

  5. is John 3, 16 and 17. It's that next verse.

  6. God so loved the world that he gave his one

  7. and only son, that's Jesus, that whoever believes in him

  8. shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did

  9. not send his son into the world to condemn the world,

  10. but to save the world through him. God wants you

  11. to know his love. God not only wants you to

  12. know his love, he wants you to feel his love.

  13. Because when you feel God's love, it transforms you. And

  14. then you know what? He expects you to pass it

  15. on to other people. In fact, Jesus said it like this,

  16. John 13, it's on the screen. I'm giving you a

  17. new commandment. Love each other. Just as I have loved you,

  18. you should love each other. And your love for one

  19. another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.

  20. You know, years later, John, one of the original 12 guys,

  21. would reemphasize this. And in 1 John chapter 3, he

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  22. wrote this. This is how we know who the children

  23. of God are. Anyone who doesn't obey God's command and

  24. doesn't love others is not a child of God. This

  25. is the message we've heard from the beginning. We must

  26. love each other. You know, the most amazing conversion in

  27. the Bible is this guy named Paul. He later became

  28. Saint Paul. Paul was a religious terrorist. His job was

  29. to kill Christians. And he traveled all around the Palestine

  30. area killing Christians. That was his job. He was a

  31. religious terrorist. And one day he's going to Syria, to

  32. Damascus to kill a bunch of Christians there. And on

  33. the road to Damascus, he encounters the resurrected Jesus Christ.

  34. And Jesus says to Paul, why are you persecuting me? Paul, Saul,

  35. Paul becomes, falls to his knees and and says, my

  36. Lord and my God. And the man who had been

  37. a religious terrorist becomes the apostle of love. And Paul

  38. wrote the most beautiful words on love ever written, 1

  39. Corinthians 13. They are read at weddings literally every single

  40. day around the world. Now, the fifth reason why we

  41. who are followers of Jesus Christ have more hope than

  42. anybody else is this, We know the purposes that we're

  43. created for. We know the purpose of life. Most people,

  44. you know, I've traveled all around the world and I've

  45. discovered most people don't have the slightest idea what is

  46. the purpose of their life. You say, what's the purpose

  47. of your life? I don't know. You can have success

  48. without having significance. Significance comes from knowing your purpose. Why

  49. am I here? What on earth am I here for?

  50. Why does my life exist? What is the purpose of

  51. my life? Does my life have any meaning? These are

  52. the fundamental questions of life. You can fill your life

  53. with popularity and power and possessions and all pleasures and

  54. not know your purpose and there's still the emptiness. When

  55. you don't know your purpose in life, when you don't

  56. know why you're here on earth, then there's this big

  57. hole in you and you try to fill that emptiness

  58. with a lot of other stuff Money, sex, achievement, success, travel, pleasure, sports, hobbies,

  59. those are all good things, but they're never gonna take

  60. the place of knowing why in the world are you here?

  61. Why do you exist? Why are you even alive? What

  62. is the purpose of your life? There are thousands of

  63. verses about the purpose of your life in this book,

  64. but if you've never read it, you don't know it

  65. You don't know what on earth am I here for.

  66. And at some point, even if you're living the good life,

  67. you put your head down on the pillow at night

  68. and you go, there's gotta be more to life than

  69. this because there is. You were wired by God for much,

  70. much more. You were made for so much more than

  71. simply the good life. You're made for the better life.

  72. I don't have time today on Easter Sunday to explain

  73. to you the five purposes of your life. But let

  74. me just quickly show you just a few of the

  75. thousands of verses about God's purpose for creating you. Psalm

  76. 138 says this, verse eight. The Lord will fulfill his

  77. purpose for me because his love endures forever. What is

  78. that verse saying? It's saying the reason there's a purpose

  79. for your life is because you have a creator who

  80. loves you. God always acts in love toward you. And

  81. because he loves you, he made you for a purpose.

  82. You were made by God and you were made for God.

  83. And until you figure that out, life's never going to

  84. make sense. It's just not going to make sense. The

  85. next verse, Jeremiah 29 says this. I know the plans

  86. I have for you, says the Lord. Plans to prosper you,

  87. not to harm you. Plans to give you Hope and

  88. a future. He's saying that God's purpose for your life

  89. is a good plan. You're not going to run from it.

  90. It's not a bad thing. It's a good thing. It

  91. has hope and purpose and future. In the next verse,

  92. Jesus says in John chapter 10, Jesus says, my purpose

    John 10 chapter mention

  93. is to give life in all its fullness. You're not

  94. really living until you're connected to God. You're just existing.

  95. You were made for so much more than get up

  96. in the morning, go to work, come home, watch TV,

  97. go to bed, party on the weekend. Jesus said, you're

  98. not really living. I came to give you life in

  99. its fullness. The key to your fulfillment in life is

  100. knowing your purpose in life. The next verse, Romans 8, 28,

  101. the Bible says this. We know that in all things,

  102. God works for the good of those who love him.

  103. who've been called according to his purpose. When you're living

  104. out the purpose you were created for, that God made

  105. you for, God says, I'm going to bring good even

  106. out of the bad stuff in your life. I'll take all,

  107. even the dumb stuff, even the bad decisions I make,

  108. even my mistakes, even my sins. He says, I'll figure

  109. that all out. I'll work it all out for good

  110. in your life because you're going for my purpose. That's

  111. a great thing. That's a great news. And then he

  112. says this, and Mark chapter 8, Jesus says, if you

    Mark 8 chapter mention

  113. insist on saving your life, you're going to lose it.

  114. In other words, you're going to go with your plan,

  115. you're going to go with God's plan. If you insist

  116. on saving your life, you'll lose it. Only those who

  117. give away their lives for my sake and the good

  118. news will ever know what it means to really live.

  119. He's saying, you know, your plan is going to lead

  120. you to frustration. You're going to lose it. By the way,

  121. how's that going for you? You've been going on your

  122. plan for your life. How's that working out for you?

  123. You totally fulfilled? You totally satisfied? Life's everything you want

  124. it to be? God says, no, no. You go with

  125. my plan, then you're going to know how to really live.

  126. But you can't go with your plan and God's plan

  127. at the same time. You got to decide which one

  128. you're going to go for. Your purpose in life or

  129. God's purpose in your life? You were made for so

  130. much more. And he says, only if you give your

  131. life away will you ever know what it means to

  132. really live. What's he saying there? You're not ready to

  133. live till you know what's worth dying for. Do you

  134. know what you'd die for in life? If you don't,

  135. you're not really ready to live. You know, after the resurrection,

  136. first tens of thousands, then hundreds of thousands, then millions

  137. of people became followers of Jesus Christ. Of course, as

  138. I said, now billions today This scared the Roman Empire

  139. because millions of people were becoming followers of the resurrected

  140. Jesus Christ. There were just too many eyewitnesses and it

  141. scared them to death. So the Roman Empire started what

  142. was called the Great Persecution. And for the first 300

  143. years of Christianity, it was illegal to be a Christian.

  144. And if you made the decision to say, I'm going

  145. to become a follower of Christ, you were more likely

  146. to be fed the lions in the Colosseum or crucified

  147. yourself or beheaded. It meant ultimately probably certain death. People

  148. were signing their own death warrant by saying, I'm going

  149. to become a follower of Christ. Why did they become followers?

  150. Because of the hope. All the things we've just covered.

  151. You know, all but one of the original 12 guys,

  152. original disciples, every one of those guys were murdered except one, John.

  153. Stephen was stoned to death. James was beheaded. Peter was

  154. crucified upside down. Paul was in prison in Rome, and

  155. then he was executed. I want you to listen to

  156. the last words of Paul right before he goes to execution.

  157. He says, I He says, I fought the good fight.

  158. I finished the race. I've kept the faith. You know

  159. what baffled the Roman Empire was how unafraid Christians were

  160. to die. Paul says it like this, for me to

  161. live is Christ and dying is even better. He says,

  162. you know, either way I win. If I'm alive, I'm

  163. just gonna live my purpose, the purpose that God created

  164. me for. If I die, I just get to go

  165. to heaven sooner. I can't lose. What do you do

  166. with a guy like that? Now, you know, today, American

  167. media doesn't report this, but about a quarter of a billion,

  168. about 250 million of those Christians live in lands where

  169. they are persecuted for their faith. In fact, about 90,000

  170. Christians are killed every year right now. In fact, for

  171. the last 10 years, it's been over a million people believers,

  172. Christian believers have been killed in the last 10 years,

  173. over 1 million. People go, why am I a Christian?

  174. Because I know there's more to life than just here

  175. and now. That leads me to the sixth thing of hope,

  176. and it's this. Here's the sixth reason we have the

  177. most hope, because we have an eternal home waiting for us.

  178. We have an eternal home waiting for us. We know,

  179. as followers of Jesus, that death is not the end.

  180. It's just a transition to better things. In fact, you're

  181. going to spend far more time on that side of

  182. eternity than on this side. Here on this planet, you

  183. get 60, 70, 80, at the most you're going to

  184. get 100 years on this planet. But on the other side,

  185. those who know the Lord, who've accepted salvation, it's trillions

  186. and trillions and trillions and trillions of years of freedom.

  187. You know, the last of the 12 disciples to die

  188. was a guy named John Actually, the Romans tried to

  189. poison him. He was the only one not martyred, but

  190. the poison didn't work. So they exiled John to a

  191. prison colony on an island called Patmos in the middle

  192. of the Mediterranean. And he actually lived to be quite

  193. an old man on the island of Patmos in this prison.

  194. And by himself there, in his old age, he wrote

  195. the last book of the Bible, which is called the Revelation.

  196. And it is a vision of what heaven is like.

  197. Do you know someone who's graduating this year? Maybe it's

  198. your son or daughter, a grandchild, or perhaps a neighbor

  199. or family friend. As you celebrate this important milestone and

  200. they begin the next phase of their journey, they need

  201. to know that God created them, loves them, and has

  202. a plan for their life. That's why Pastor Rick created

  203. a special resource just for graduates called The Purpose Driven

  204. Life Selected Thoughts and Scriptures for the Graduate, filled with

  205. inspirational scripture, biblical wisdom from Pastor Rick, and beautiful imagery.

  206. This unique hardcover gift book provides a priceless reminder of

  207. the bountiful life God has planned for your graduate, and

  208. it will inspire them to seek his unique plan and

  209. purpose for their life. Don't miss this opportunity to minister

  210. to the graduate in your life today. We'll send you

  211. a copy to say thanks when you give a gift

  212. to Daily Hope to help share the hope of Jesus

  213. Christ with people around the world.

  214. What is heaven gonna be like? Well, in a word,

  215. it's indescribable. It's indescribable. You and I trying to understand

  216. what heaven is like would be like a mosquito trying

  217. to understand the internet. We don't have the brain capacity.

  218. You see, here on planet Earth, we're limited by three dimensions.

  219. There are far more than three dimensions. There are dimensions

  220. we don't even know about. But we know it's gonna

  221. be incredible. It's going to be beautiful. It's going to

  222. be amazing. Why? Because look at the earth. This is

  223. a broken planet. This is a fallen planet. Nothing works

  224. perfectly on this planet. And yet there's still a lot

  225. of beauty. Sunrises and sunsets and skis and mountains and

  226. trees and these beautiful flowers and the beaches and all

  227. of the beauty that God created on earth. And this

  228. is an imperfect planet. Imagine what a perfect place is

  229. going to be like with all the sights and the

  230. sounds and the colors and and the smells where it's

  231. absolutely perfect, and the taste that are there. You know,

  232. the problem with most people in heaven is because you

  233. have a TV vision of heaven. And on television and movies,

  234. they always predict, show heaven as, first place, it's totally white. Now,

  235. why would God who created all the colors make heaven

  236. so boring as all white? And then you're walking around

  237. in fog up to about your knees. And you're wearing

  238. a white robe and you've got angel's wings and you're

  239. playing a harp. That would be hell. If that's heaven,

  240. I don't want to go. I'd rather just stay here

  241. and surf. Thank you. That's not at all what heaven's like.

  242. But the devil wants you to have this vision of

  243. heaven like so boring. We're all the same. The Bible

  244. says this about heaven. 1 Corinthians chapter 2. No eye

    1 Corinthians 2 chapter mention

  245. has ever seen. no ear has ever heard and no

  246. mind has ever imagined the wonderful things that God has

  247. prepared for those who love him, for those who love him.

  248. You know, I'll be honest with you folks. I've been

  249. a pastor here now for four decades. I have walked

  250. tens of thousands of people personally through their pain and

  251. their sorrow and their suffering and their sadness. and their sickness.

  252. And the more that I see the earth with all

  253. of its abuse and the affairs and the assaults and

  254. the rapes and the violence and the racism and the

  255. prejudice and the war and all of the bad things

  256. that we see, the evil, the terrorism, The more that

  257. I see of that in the world, in our broken planet,

  258. and the more that I have friends and family who've

  259. gone ahead of me into heaven, my mother and father

  260. are there, my older brother is there, I have a

  261. son in heaven. The older I get, the more heaven

  262. sounds like a good deal. And the more I look

  263. forward to it and the more I'm ready for it.

  264. I'm certainly not afraid to die. Now, this is why

  265. the resurrection gives us hope. These six things. Why we

  266. have more hope than anybody else on the planet. First,

  267. I am completely forgiven of everything I've ever done wrong.

  268. I'm going to go to bed tonight with a clear conscience,

  269. knowing that even the sins that I commit tomorrow and

  270. next year and in 10 years, if I'm still here, that...

  271. They've already been forgiven and paid for by Jesus Christ.

  272. I am completely forgiven. Then I know that I'm not

  273. afraid to die because I'm just not afraid to die.

  274. Then I have God's spirit inside me who gives me

  275. the power to make changes in my life I could

  276. never do on my own. Habits and hurts and hangups

  277. and stuff that I don't like about myself that I

  278. never could change. Now I have God's spirit inside of

  279. me to give me strength to make these changes. I

  280. know that God will never stop loving me. It doesn't

  281. matter what happens in my days ahead. I know one

  282. thing for sure. God will never, never, never stop loving me.

  283. I know that I'm living the purpose that I was

  284. created for. And I know that one day I'm going

  285. to heaven without any doubt. I don't have any question

  286. about that. I'm absolutely certain. I'm going to heaven. You

  287. know what my prayer is for you? Is that you

  288. would have that confidence. If you were to die tonight,

  289. are you certain you'd go to heaven? You go, well,

  290. I kind of hope so. Hope isn't good enough. You

  291. need to be certain. You need to be certain. And

  292. God wants you to be certain. God, I can help

  293. you develop that certainty today. I guarantee I can. And

  294. if you were to stand before God tonight and God

  295. says to you, why should I let you into my house?

  296. Why should I let you into my home for eternity?

  297. Do you know the password? Do you know? He said, well,

  298. I tried to be a nice person. Wrong answer. You

  299. can't be good enough to get into a perfect place.

  300. Heaven's perfect and I'm not and neither are you. You

  301. need a savior. That's what Jesus came to do. If

  302. Jesus didn't need to die on the cross for you,

  303. then it was a total waste of his blood. There's

  304. only one way. Before Jesus went back to heaven, he

  305. said to his followers, let not your heart be troubled.

  306. In other words, don't get discouraged. You believe in God,

  307. believe also in me. In my father's house are many mansions.

  308. If it were not so, I would have told you.

  309. I'm going to prepare a place for you. And if

  310. I go and prepare a place for you, I will

  311. come again and receive you unto myself that where I

  312. am there you may be also and Thomas said Lord

  313. we don't know where you're going and we don't know

  314. the way and Jesus said I am the way I

  315. am the truth I am the life no one comes

  316. to the father except through me I'm betting my life

  317. that Jesus Christ, who rose from the dead, is not

  318. a liar. What are you betting your life on? My

  319. prayer for you is that you will simply open your

  320. eyes and you will today have a moment of clarity

  321. that maybe you've never ever seen before. You may be thinking, well,

  322. it's a little late for me. It is never too

  323. late to give your brokenness to God. And we're all broken.

  324. We're all broken. Would you like to begin a life

  325. of contagious hope? God has been preparing you for this

  326. entire moment. And so what do I do? The Bible

  327. says this, Romans chapter 10. If you confess with your

    Romans 10 chapter mention

  328. mouth that Jesus is Lord and you believe in your

  329. heart that God raised him from the dead. That's what

  330. Easter's all about. You will be saved. Confess with your

  331. mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus is Lord.

  332. What does it mean to say Jesus is Lord? It

  333. means to say he's God and I'm not. God is

  334. God and I'm not. Lord means you have a right

  335. to lead me because you are my creator, you are God.

  336. God is God and I'm not. That's what it means

  337. to say Jesus is Lord. He's the manager. He becomes

  338. the CEO of my life. I put on a sign

  339. that says I'm under new management. Jesus is my Lord.

  340. He is God in my life. I'm going to invite

  341. you to pray a simple prayer with me, but it's

  342. a very different kind of prayer because I don't want

  343. you to bow your head and I don't want you

  344. to close your eyes. I want you to keep your

  345. eyes wide open. What I'm going to do is I'm

  346. going to put this prayer on the screen up here.

  347. And I wanna invite all of us to read this

  348. prayer aloud together. And there's nothing magical or mystical about

  349. these words. What really matters is the attitude of your heart.

  350. If you mean it, it's important. If you don't mean it,

  351. doesn't mean anything. But this prayer begins with the word,

  352. dear God, today. So let's read this prayer aloud together.

  353. Just look at the screen and make this, keep your

  354. eyes open, make this your prayer. Let's read it aloud.

  355. Dear God, Today, I accept all that Jesus did for

  356. me on the cross. Thank you for forgiving everything I've

  357. done wrong. Thank you that I don't have to fear death.

  358. Please put your spirit of love and power in me.

  359. Thank you that you never will stop loving me. I

  360. want to live for the purpose that you created me for.

  361. I trust you to take me to heaven when I die. Now,

  362. if you didn't mean that, it didn't mean anything. But

  363. if you sincerely meant it, this is a big deal.

  364. This is called the moment of salvation for you. In fact,

  365. let's congratulate the people who meant this and prayed it

  366. for the very first time. Congratulations. Welcome. Welcome to the family. Hi, everybody.

  367. This is Pastor Rick. Because of the generous support of

  368. many of you Daily Hope listeners, we're able to offer

  369. Daily Hope devotionals for free worldwide. In fact, today I

  370. have a note from Paul in Kenya that shows how

  371. God is at work through the Daily Hope devotionals. Paul

  372. wrote me, he said, I'd like to sincerely thank you

  373. for the free gift of your Daily Hope devotionals. May

  374. God receive all the glory. For some time now, your

  375. inspiring and encouraging messages, along with scripture references, have helped

  376. me push through some really tough times and get closer

  377. to God. However, Paul writes, the best part is that

  378. my faith in God has now grown to the point

  379. that he recently gave me the strength and wisdom to

  380. accept his free undeserved gift of grace and salvation by

  381. accepting and confessing Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.

  382. I feel like a new being today. And I yearn

  383. to keep growing more and more in God's word and

  384. in wisdom, surrendering my life to his will alone. So

  385. please hold my hand in this journey to the glory

  386. and honor of God through Christ Jesus. Paul, without a doubt,

  387. I will hold your hand as you journey with Jesus.

  388. There is no greater decision. that you could have made

  389. than believing and receiving Jesus Christ. So congratulations. You're my

  390. brother in Christ. And I want to encourage you to

  391. be on the lookout every day to see how God

  392. guides you, how God directs you. It's an exciting journey.
