  1. Have you ever been promised something in your life, but you

  2. didn't know exactly what it was going to be like and so you were

  3. left wondering or maybe asking questions about it?

  4. Maybe you were waiting for a birthday and joyfully expecting

  5. what you would get. Maybe you were expecting a baby

  6. and, and anticipating what he or she would look like.

  7. And as we come up to Christmas, maybe you've, we're waiting for

  8. Christmas gifts and maybe many of you have bought gifts for

  9. your children and, and they're anticipating what they're going

  10. to get under the tree. You know, they're, they're

  11. grabbing the gifts, they're looking at the boxes, they're

  12. analyzing them, they're shaking them.

  13. They're they're judging what it might be based on the shape and

  14. the size. If any of you guys are like me,

  15. then your wife probably has to be really creative with her

  16. guesses because there's usually not something under the tree

  17. until a few days before Christmas.

  18. But as we pick up in our sermon series in the book of First

  19. Corinthians this morning, we see that sort of anticipation as

  20. Paul is talking about the resurrection to the Corinthians,

  21. he's told them that Christ has risen and we too will rise from

  22. the dead. And so naturally they wondered

  23. what's going to happen? What sort of bodies will we

  24. have? What are they going to look

  25. like? How is all of this going to take

  26. place? And we're going to see Paul's

  27. answer to those questions this morning.

  28. So if you'll turn with me in your Bibles to 1st Corinthians

  29. chapter 15, we'll be in verses 35 through 58.

  30. And just by way of reminder, we've been going through this

  31. book for for over seven months now.

  32. This is a letter that Paul wrote to a church that he started in

  33. the city of Corinth. And he had been there for a

  34. short time and, and after he left the, these people were new

  35. Christians. They still had lots of

  36. questions. And so they sent him letters.

  37. They sent him questions and say, hey, we, we still want to know

  38. about these things. And so his letter to them is a

  39. response to those questions. And so the last few weeks we've

  40. been looking specifically at chapter 15, which talks all

  41. about the resurrection and what the resurrection is going to be

  42. like and the reality of the resurrection, the effects of the

  43. resurrection. And today we're going to see

  44. specifically what our bodies in the resurrection will be like.

  45. We will see the reality of our resurrection bodies.

  46. But before we do that, let's bow for a word of prayer.

  47. Lord, Your hands have made us, and we have been fashioned in

  48. Your image. We have been created so that we

  49. might find our joy and satisfaction in You and bring

  50. You glory through our lives. And so we ask that as we open

  51. Your Word this morning, that You would give us understanding by

  52. the power of Your Spirit working through Your Word, Teach us Your

  53. commandments that we may behold wondrous things in Your law.

  54. Believe them by faith and walk in obedience to them, bringing

  55. glory and honor to your name. In Jesus name we ask, Amen.

  56. We'll be in First Corinthians chapter 15 and it's a bit of a

    1 Corinthians 15 chapter mention

  57. lengthy passage, but I'll read through it all to start and then

  58. we'll begin to go through it. First Corinthians chapter 15,

    1 Corinthians 15:35–58

  59. verses 35 through 58. But someone will ask, how are

  60. the dead raised? With what kind of body do they

  61. come, you foolish person? What you sow does not come to

  62. life unless it dies. And what you sow is not the body

  63. that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or some

  64. other grain. But God gives it a body as He

  65. has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body.

  66. For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for

  67. humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another

  68. for fish. There are heavenly bodies and

  69. earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and

  70. the glory of the earthly is of another.

  71. There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon,

  72. and another glory of the stars. For star differs from star in

  73. glory. So it is with the resurrection

  74. of the dead. What is sown is perishable.

  75. What is raised is imperishable. It is sown in dishonor.

  76. It is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness.

  77. It is raised in power. It is sown a natural body.

  78. It is raised a spiritual body. If there is a natural body,

  79. there is also a spiritual body. Thus it is written.

  80. The first man, Adam, became a living being.

  81. The last Adam became a life giving spirit, but it is not the

  82. spiritual that is first, but the natural and then the spiritual.

  83. The 1st man was from the earth, a man of dust.

  84. The second man is from heaven. As was the man of dust, so also

  85. are those who are of the dust. And as is the man of heaven, so

  86. also are those who are of heaven.

  87. Just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall

  88. also bear the image of the man of heaven.

  89. I tell you this, brothers, flesh and blood cannot inherit the

  90. Kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the

  91. imperishable. Behold, I tell you a mystery.

  92. We shall not all sleep, but we shall be changed in a moment, in

  93. the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet.

  94. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised

  95. imperishable, and we shall be changed.

  96. For this perishable body must put on the imperishable, and

  97. this mortal body must put on immortality.

  98. And when the perishable puts on the imperishable, and the mortal

  99. puts on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is

  100. written, death is swallowed up in victory.

  101. Oh, death, where is your victory?

  102. Oh, death, where is your sting? The sting of death is sin, and

  103. the power of sin is the law, but thanks be to God who gives us

  104. the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

  105. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always

  106. abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord

  107. your labour is not in vain. Now as Paul begins this

  108. question, you see that he's addressing or he begins

  109. answering their questions. You see their questions.

  110. How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they

  111. come? And, and this seems natural

  112. because we would all naturally wonder what those things would

  113. be like. What are our bodies going to be

  114. like? How is this all going to happen?

  115. But we see the person that he's addressing is not someone who

  116. has a sincere question and a sincere concern because look at

  117. his response, you foolish person, or more bluntly, you

  118. fool. And so we see that at the

  119. outset, he's addressing specifically people who are

  120. scoffing, skeptics. They're not sincerely trying to

  121. understand how all of these things are going to take place.

  122. They're actually mocking the Christians by saying, well, what

  123. this resurrection, can it really be true?

  124. Well, what is it going to look like?

  125. And so he's addressing them. But, but we also must understand

  126. that there are people who are sincerely asking the question,

  127. which is why he gives all this detail.

  128. He gives all of these answers because there are those who have

  129. that sincere question. And the first thing that we

  130. learned from Paul is that you will receive a new body.

  131. God has given you a body here on earth for this time.

  132. But when we are raised from the dead, we will receive new bodies

  133. specifically for heaven. And so Paul uses examples from

  134. our world about the difference between heavenly and earthly

  135. things, about the difference of flesh and the different glories

  136. of the stars and the moon. And the first thing that you

  137. must do before getting your heavenly body is that your old

  138. body must die. Look in verse 36 to 38, Paul

  139. says what you sow does not come to life unless it dies.

  140. And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare

  141. kernel, perhaps of wheat or some other grain.

  142. But God gives it a body as He has chosen, and to each kind of

  143. seed its own body. And so we are going to receive

  144. new bodies, but our earthly bodies must die first.

  145. And so he uses the example of a seed.

  146. And when you plant a seed in the ground, you're not hoping for a

  147. larger seed. You're actually hoping for a

  148. plant of some sort of some kind that eventually is going to

  149. sprout out of that seed and grow.

  150. But after that happens, the old seed is gone.

  151. And that's what our heavenly bodies will be like.

  152. We sow our natural bodies into the ground, and they become new

  153. heavenly bodies, something far better and far greater than our

  154. earthly bodies. And then your old body must be

  155. replaced with a body uniquely designed for heaven, with its

  156. own glory. And so here he begins to

  157. contrast these different glories in verses 39 through 41.

  158. Not all flesh is the same. There is one kind for humans,

  159. another for animals, another for birds, another for fish.

  160. There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of

  161. the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of

  162. another. There is one glory of the sun,

  163. another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars.

  164. For star differs from star in glory.

  165. And so using examples from nature, Paul points out that

  166. your your earthly body has its own unique glory, while your

  167. heavenly body will be distinct in and of itself and have its

  168. own glory. And he uses examples from our

  169. world. We think of us as humans have a

  170. certain kind of flesh, a flesh that is different from the

  171. animals which can live outdoors. You know, we can't live in

  172. extreme temperatures, but certain animals can.

  173. And then even those animals, there's birds that have a

  174. different kind of flesh which enables them to fly.

  175. And then there's fish which enable them to live in the sea.

  176. And so all these different kinds of flesh in God's creation show

  177. that they have different types of glory.

  178. And in the same way, even the sun and the moon and the stars

  179. all have differing levels of glory.

  180. And he's using that to contrast our earthly bodies from our

  181. heavenly bodies. God has created our earthly

  182. bodies and they have a certain amount of glory to them.

  183. In Psalm chapter 8, we see this that that the psalmist says,

    Psalms 8 chapter mention

  184. when I look at your heavens, when I look at the stars, I

  185. wonder what is man that you are mindful of him and yet you have

  186. crowned him with glory. There is a glory that comes with

  187. our earthly bodies, but it is unique to this earth.

  188. Our resurrected bodies will have their own uniqueness, their own

  189. glory. And so our old bodies must die

  190. and our we must receive, they must be replaced by our new

  191. bodies. And so that's exactly what Paul

  192. wants us to know. We will receive new bodies in

  193. the resurrection. Now, have you ever wanted to

  194. upgrade your vehicle or get a newer vehicle?

  195. I'm sure that everybody's been in that situation at some point

  196. in your life where you felt it was time to get something

  197. better. Now, maybe you got married and

  198. had kids and needed a larger vehicle, or maybe you just

  199. needed something that was more reliable.

  200. I think all of us have probably been there.

  201. And I, I still remember the very first car I bought with my own

  202. money. It was a 2000 Volkswagen Jetta.

  203. And let me tell you, this was a good car.

  204. I loved this car. The first thing I had to do,

  205. though, before I got this car was I had to let that old

  206. Sunbird go that I'd adopted from my sister at Hunka Junk.

  207. And then I could get my new car. But tell me this car was good.

  208. OK, it was a it was a diesel and so it got excellent fuel

  209. mileage. It had heated seats.

  210. It handled really well in the snow.

  211. But probably one of the coolest features was it had a six CD

  212. changer. Yeah, I'm no longer a peasant.

  213. Along with those people who have to, like, change the CD every

  214. time it's done. No, no, no, no.

  215. I can go for six CDs before I got to change that bad boy.

  216. The only problem was it was in the trunk, which made it a

  217. little bit inconvenient If you're on a road trip, you got

  218. to, like, pull the car over and go to the back and swap with the

  219. CDs. But this was such a good car and

  220. it, but it's funny when you look at it today, you think and you

  221. laugh and you know, there may be people in this room.

  222. We don't even young people in this room.

  223. We don't even know what ACD is. You know, in 20 years from now,

  224. we're going to have technology that looks back on this and

  225. we're going to go, well, that even what we have today is going

  226. to look useless and meaningless. But brothers and sisters, we, we

  227. have the hope that we'll receive resurrected bodies and they'll

  228. never have a need to be upgraded or modified or, or renewed or

  229. made better. But how does this truth affect

  230. the way that we live, that hope and that resurrected body that

  231. has its own glory? This, this new body, how does it

  232. affect us? Now, if the resurrection isn't

  233. true, then that means we don't have the hope of new bodies.

  234. And that means, well, we, we can just live however we want in

  235. this life because it doesn't matter, right?

  236. That Paul argues that earlier in the chapter.

  237. But if the resurrection is true, if Jesus really did rise from

  238. the dead, then that means he was, He is the Son of God.

  239. That means the message of the Kingdom that he proclaimed was

  240. true. And the way that you live not

  241. only matters, but it means everything.

  242. And if we truly believe in the resurrection, that we'll receive

  243. new, heavenly, eternal bodies, then we should live by faith,

  244. seeking God's Kingdom first. That hope, that promise, should

  245. enable us to live this life with that eternity in perspective.

  246. We don't need to be concerned about doing everything in our

  247. power to preserve our earthly human lives, because we have the

  248. hope and the faith that we'll receive new bodies that will

  249. never die. And since we have that promise,

  250. we can willingly give our lives for the glory of God here on

  251. this earth, trusting that God is something better in store for

  252. us. The next thing that Paul teaches

  253. us is that you will receive a superior body.

  254. Not only will you receive a new body, but it will be far

  255. superior. Your heavenly body is going to

  256. be much better than your earthly body.

  257. It's not just a minor tweak, a minor update.

  258. It's not a little bit of an upgrade.

  259. It's a complete overhaul and so Paul uses this example in it and

  260. he shows that this heavenly body is going to be superior to the

  261. earthly body in every way. First, your body will be

  262. spiritual. Look at verses 42 through 44.

  263. He contrasts the fleshly body and the heavenly body.

  264. So it is with the resurrection of the dead, verse 42.

  265. What is sown is perishable. What is raised is imperishable.

  266. It is sown in dishonor. It is raised in glory, it is

  267. sown in weakness, it is raised in power.

  268. It is sown a natural body. It is raised a spiritual body.

  269. If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body.

  270. And so he's contrasting. Here's, here's the natural body

  271. that you have now and here's how different it will be in the

  272. future when it's a spiritual body.

  273. Look how much better it is. The earthly body is perishable.

  274. It can die, it can break, it can have disease.

  275. But your spiritual body will be imperishable, never to die,

  276. never to suffer again. Your earthly body is weak.

  277. How often do we yield to the temptation and the power of sin

  278. in our lives? But your spiritual body will be

  279. powerful, and you will be free from the power of sin.

  280. Your earthly body is natural, and it's vulnerable to the

  281. effects of our fallen world. But your spiritual body is

  282. spiritual. Never again to struggle with the

  283. things of this world. Your body will be superior

  284. because it will be spiritual, but it is also superior because

  285. your body will be like Jesus. Look at verses 45 through 49.

  286. Thus it is written, The first man, Adam, became a living

  287. being, The last Adam became a life giving spirit.

  288. But it is not the spiritual that is first, but the natural and

  289. then the spiritual. The 1st man was from the earth a

  290. man of dust. A second man is from heaven.

  291. As was the man of dust, so also are those who are of the dust.

  292. And as is the man of heaven, so also are those who are of

  293. heaven. Just as we have borne the image

  294. of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the man

  295. of heaven. So here Paul shows us that here,

  296. while you're on earth, you're like Adam.

  297. He was created from the dust of the earth, and everyone who

  298. comes after him is like him. Adam is a a sort of prototype of

  299. all earthly mankind. We all come from him and are

  300. made from the dust of the earth. But then he points forward to

  301. Christ. Last week Pastor Jake talked

  302. about Christ as the firstfruits having been raised from the

  303. dead. He's the one who goes before us,

  304. and now he is the prototype of all of us in our resurrected

  305. bodies, our resurrected state. And though Jesus did become a

  306. man having flesh and blood, he was not from the dust of the

  307. earth. He was fully God, and he came

  308. from heaven. And we will be like him.

  309. And so here he contrasted in the same way that we are like Adam

  310. here on earth. Our spiritual bodies will be

  311. like Jesus. And many of you are familiar

  312. with Super Mario Brothers. This is one of the best selling

  313. video games of all time. And you know the game and you've

  314. played it. And, and the goal of the game is

  315. to get across Mushroom Kingdom to save Princess who has been

  316. captured by Bowser. But it's not an easy journey.

  317. There are many obstacles, many enemies along the way.

  318. There are Goombas and Koopa Troopas and piranha plants are

  319. bottomless pits and and lava. And you have to be careful to

  320. navigate all of these hazards to be able to get to the end to

  321. save the Princess before the time runs out.

  322. But there's one special item, one power up that helps you to

  323. succeed the star. I don't know.

  324. Did you guess that, Danny? Is that what you were guessing?

  325. When you get the star, for a limited period of time, you have

  326. a superior body and your your natural body, it was what that

  327. was used to be subject to all the enemies in the game.

  328. You used to die if you ran into them no longer.

  329. Now you are invincible for this certain period of time.

  330. I mean, there are certain things that you can still fall into the

  331. the pits and the lava, but most of your enemies, you're

  332. invincible. You can run through, but you

  333. have to be careful because if there's a limited time where

  334. you're invincible and then it runs out.

  335. So you have to, you have to be careful how far you go.

  336. But brothers and sisters, this is not the case with our

  337. heavenly bodies. It, it is not a a temporal thing

  338. that only lasts for a limited period of time.

  339. Your resurrection body is not going to run out.

  340. It's not going to need to be replaced by something better.

  341. Our heavenly bodies will be complete and final.

  342. They will be perfect just like Jesus's body, superior to our

  343. earthly bodies in every way. In first John chapter 3, John

    1 John 3 chapter mention

  344. says see what kind of love the Father has given us, that we

  345. should be called children of God.

  346. And so we are. The reason why the world does

  347. not know us is that it did not know Him.

  348. Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not

  349. yet appeared. But we know that when he

  350. appears, we shall be like him because we shall see Him as He

  351. is. As followers of Christ, we live

  352. here on the earth and and while we live here, we look like

  353. everyone else. It's not obvious to the world

  354. that we're different from them. They don't recognize that we are

  355. children of God. We have earthly bodies.

  356. But when Christ appears and we receive our new spiritual bodies

  357. that look like his, they will see that we are truly the

  358. children of God. And John continues and says,

  359. everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.

  360. Our hope is in a risen Savior, that one day we will have

  361. superior bodies like His. And in light of this, brothers

  362. and sisters, we should strive for purity.

  363. We should strive for holiness because Jesus is pure.

  364. If you want to look like Jesus in heaven, you must look like

  365. Jesus on earth. And if you truly love Jesus, if

  366. you truly want to honor him and receive a body, a superior body

  367. like his, don't just sit on the sidelines waiting for that day

  368. to come. Strive for holiness and purity

  369. in your life, seeking to be like Jesus here on earth.

  370. The next thing that we learn about the resurrection is that

  371. you will receive an imperishable body.

  372. You will receive a new body which will be superior because

  373. it will be imperishable. And you're going to need a new

  374. body because Paul says in verse 50, I tell you this brother's

  375. flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God, nor does the

  376. perishable inherit the imperishable.

  377. Your earthly body is perishable. It's going to die and and it

  378. can't go into eternity. And so you're going to need a

  379. new imperishable body. But not to worry because you

  380. will be changed through Jesus. Look at verses 51 through 53.

  381. Behold, I tell you a mystery. We shall not all sleep, but we

  382. shall be changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the

  383. last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and

  384. the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be

  385. changed. For this perishable body must

  386. put on the imperishable, and this mortal body must put on

  387. immortality. And so Paul here tells the

  388. Corinthians that that not everyone is going to die.

  389. Some people are going to be alive when Christ returns.

  390. But that doesn't matter. It doesn't matter whether you're

  391. dead or alive, because in that moment, every one of us will be

  392. changed and transformed into the image of Christ and receive our

  393. new imperishable bodies that cannot decay and that cannot

  394. die. And this is going to happen in

  395. in the twinkling of an eye. It's right that Paul uses the

  396. eye as an illustration because your eye is the fastest moving

  397. part of your body. It can turn and focus on

  398. something in less than 100th of a second.

  399. And So what Paul is saying is when that day comes, when the

  400. dead are raised, when when we meet the Lord in the clouds,

  401. we'll be transformed in the blink of an eye.

  402. It's going to happen faster than you can even see.

  403. And you will receive your imperishable body and you will

  404. be victorious through Jesus. Verse verses 4554 through 57

  405. says when, when this happens, when the perishable puts on the

  406. imperishable and the mortal puts on immortality, then shall come

  407. to pass. The saying that is written,

  408. death is swallowed up in victory.

  409. Oh death, where is your victory? Oh death, where is your sting?

  410. The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.

  411. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord

  412. Jesus Christ, When you receive your imperishable body, you will

  413. be victorious through Christ. And Paul here quotes Isaiah and

  414. the prophet Isaiah and the prophet Hosea.

  415. And in this way, he sort of, he sort of uses their words as a

  416. taunt against death. Once we are victorious through

  417. Christ, what power does death have anymore?

  418. It's gone. Why does death have power?

  419. It has power because of sin, Sin produced by the law of God.

  420. God's law shows us that we are all sinners who have fallen

  421. short of God's holy standard, and therefore we are deserving

  422. of death, since we will have to stand before God, our righteous

  423. judge. And so we fear death.

  424. Death has power and dominion over us because of our sin.

  425. But thanks be to God, Jesus died in our place.

  426. He was buried and rose again on the third day so that all who

  427. believe in him are forgiven, are victorious and will be given

  428. imperishable bodies never to die again.

  429. Charles Spurgeon said, I will not fear thee death.

  430. Why should I? Thou lookest like a dragon, but

  431. thy sting is gone. Thy teeth are broken.

  432. O old lion, wherefore should I fear thee?

  433. I know Thou art no more able to destroy me, but Thou art sent as

  434. a messenger to conduct me to the Golden Gate, wherein I shall

  435. enter and see my Savior's unveiled face forever.

  436. Praise be to God, we no longer have to fear death, for it is

  437. the doorway into Christ's presence.

  438. Through Christ you will be changed and transformed into an

  439. imperishable body, and you will have victory over death through

  440. Christ. This is the hope that led

  441. Abraham and Sarah to trusting and believing in God.

  442. We remember the story God called Abraham and he went out and the

  443. amazing thing about Abraham's obedience is he had no idea

  444. where he was going. Likewise with Sarah, God

  445. promised that Sarah that she would have a son and though she

  446. was beyond the years of childbearing, she believed that

  447. God who promised would be faithful.

  448. She believed in him and later gave birth to Isaac.

  449. And the writer of Hebrews tells us that these all died in faith,

  450. not having received the things promised, but having seen them

  451. and greeted them from afar, and having acknowledged that they

  452. were strangers and exiles on the earth.

  453. For people who speak thus make it clear that they are seeking a

  454. homeland. If they had been thinking of

  455. that land from which they had gone out, they would have had

  456. opportunity to return. But as it is, they desire a

  457. better country. That is a heavenly 1 Therefore

  458. God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared

  459. for them a city. And though Abraham and Nisarah

  460. didn't see the fulfillment of all of the promises of God, they

  461. believed him. They took him at his word.

  462. They knew that there was something better than the earth,

  463. a heavenly city that was waiting for them, a heavenly city whose

  464. designer and builder was God. And their life reflected their

  465. faith in God. Brothers and sisters, that the

  466. confidence that we have is the same as theirs, that we have

  467. hope beyond the grave. After we die, we will receive

  468. imperishable bodies, and we will be ushered in to the presence of

  469. Christ our Savior. We believe that Jesus is the

  470. Messiah, the one who came into the world to save all who would

  471. trust in Him and to give them hope through faith in Him.

  472. One day you will rise from the dead.

  473. You'll be given a new, superior, imperishable body, and you'll

  474. never have to fear or worry about death again.

  475. You will never have to struggle with temptation or weakness

  476. again. You will never have to deal with

  477. trials and suffering again. We will all be changed through

  478. Christ, victorious over death, victorious over our enemies,

  479. forever to live in the glorious presence of our Lord and Savior.

  480. What is our response to such wonderful promises?

  481. Brothers and sisters, look at how Paul closes this section in

  482. verse 485858. Therefore, my beloved brothers,

  483. be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the

  484. Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.

  485. All of these promises that we have, they teach us to be

  486. persistent. They teach us to not give up.

  487. They teach us to work hard for the Lord all the time.

  488. Why? Because all of these things are

  489. not meaningless. They're not empty.

  490. They're not in vain. They are producing something in

  491. us, an eternal weight of glory that we will get from our hope.

  492. Far too often, brothers and sisters, we are guilty of

  493. dedicating too much of our time, too much of our resources and

  494. our talents to the things of this world.

  495. Let's be committed to building God's Kingdom, strengthening His

  496. church, making His name great, sharing the good news of the

  497. gospel, knowing that it's not meaningless, but of eternal

  498. value. And all of this, all of this

  499. victory that we have won is because of Christ who laid down

  500. his life for us. And this morning we have the

  501. privilege of sharing together in the Lord's Supper as we remember

  502. his sacrifice that he made for us.

  503. At this time. I'm going to call the deacons

  504. forward. Once, as Jesus was teaching, he

  505. said in John chapter 10, For this reason the Father loves me

    John 10 chapter mention

  506. because I lay down my life, that I may take it up again.

  507. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord.

  508. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it

  509. up again. This charge I have received from

  510. my Father. Jesus willingly lay down His

  511. life. He died as the sacrifice for

  512. sin, but He did that knowing that He had the authority to

  513. take his life up again. And through faith in Him we are

  514. forgiven. We have been saved from the

  515. penalty of sin. We are being saved from the

  516. power of sin, and we will be saved from the presence of sin.

  517. And so we follow our Savior with the hope that we will receive

  518. our new imperishable bodies. And so in just a moment, the

  519. deacons are going to pass out the bread which represents

  520. Jesus's body broken for us, the juice which represents Jesus's

  521. blood poured out for us. And they're going to pass these

  522. trays down the aisle, and there will be two cups stacked

  523. together. The, the cup on the bottom has

  524. the bread in it and the cup on top has the juice.

  525. And so if you have been baptized on the confession of your faith

  526. that Jesus is your Lord and Savior, if you are in good

  527. standing with the Lord, we invite you to take the elements,

  528. the bread and the juice and to wait quietly as, as we wait for

  529. Isaac to pray and, and to read a scripture, and they will partake

  530. together. But if you are not baptized, if

  531. you are not in good standing with God, then we ask that you

  532. simply allow the bread and the juice to pass by and that you do

  533. not participate. Let's pray.

  534. Lord, we thank you for the body and blood of Christ our Lord,

  535. broken and poured out for us. We thank you for this body of

  536. believers and the unity that we have in Christ.

  537. We pray that you would strengthen and unify us through

  538. your spirit as we celebrate Christ's sacrifice for us.

  539. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
