  1. We are in our series journey life, lessons

  2. from old testament people of faith, and we're

  3. winding we got 1 more lesson after today,

  4. winding up our study of the book of

  5. Joshua. And you know if you turn to

  6. the book of Joshua,

  7. Joshua begins with basically

  8. god encouraging Joshua to take the place of

  9. Moses. I mean, very opening verse, Moses my

  10. servant is dead,

  11. So you be strong. You be courageous. You

  12. laid these people into the promised land. And

  13. so you have this wonderful story.

  14. Of Joshua as he leads the people across

  15. the Jordan river as they celebrate passover. They

  16. red dedicate their lives. And then you have

  17. this wonderful story of them preparing to conquer

  18. the land.

  19. And as they prepare to conquer the land,

  20. you have 2 stories, 2 battles.

  21. The first battle the battle of Jericho. Is

  22. the battle that they let God fight for

  23. them. And of course, they win the battle.

  24. The second battle is the battle of I

  25. And in that particular battle, they decided to

  26. do it themselves, and it was a disaster.

  27. And basically, you learned that you need to

  28. depend upon the Lord. If you're gonna do

  29. what God has called you to do.

  30. And then what follows after that, from Joshua

  31. 6 through Joshua 12,

  32. is a series of battles.

  33. You have all of these battles of where

  34. Israel's is going up against the can.

  35. You have the can who are organizing these

  36. groups of kings, who are gonna try to

  37. stop Israel from taking the land. And you

  38. have just the record of these battles with

  39. a famous battle where Joshua literally calls upon

  40. the sun. In the moon to stop in

  41. the sky, and they do in order for

  42. them to win the battle.

  43. And then when you get to Joshua 13

  44. through 22,

  45. you get to some of the most boring

  46. scripture

  47. in all the bible.

  48. And and if you've done your daily bible

  49. reading, get to it and it's like reading

  50. the gene ideologies in first chronicles.

  51. You're lot, you gotta be kidding are the

  52. sacrifices

  53. in the book of Levi.

  54. I mean, let's be honest this, some of

  55. the bible will put you to sleep fast.

  56. And and this is 1 of them because

  57. what this is from chapter 13 22,

  58. it's where Joshua divides the land among the

  59. tribes.

  60. Now, I don't know if you've tried to

  61. read an old deed before.

  62. June and I, we own a piece of

  63. property that was her family's property dating all

  64. the way back to the early 19 hundreds.

  65. And when you read the deed, it will

  66. say the property begins

  67. near the rock

  68. beside the oak tree

  69. and it'll run about, you know, 40 feet

  70. to a fence post,

  71. where it then goes kinda north with. I

  72. mean, you're reading this going?

  73. I have no clue where the property line

  74. is.

  75. I mean, who can understand this. Well, that's

  76. what this is.

  77. This is about 9 chapters

  78. of reading

  79. about maps

  80. about where the tribes

  81. and their d were and you're like, oh,

  82. please save me. Because you have no idea

  83. where any of these places are. You know,

  84. you're just kinda guessing where these property lines

  85. were back in the ancient Israeli communities.

  86. And so you think, well, let's just skip

  87. all this. But if you do, you skip

  88. an important it part.

  89. It's a story

  90. embedded in this. That's 1 of the most

  91. exciting stories

  92. in all the bible.

  93. And so when the tribes came together to

  94. divide up the land.

  95. Basically, Joshua was said, who goes first

  96. and God said Judah goes first.

  97. And so Judah comes to find out which

  98. land they're going to get as an inheritance

  99. from the lord. So now the people of

  100. Judah approached Joshua at Gil gal, And Caleb

  101. son of Jeff,

  102. the Kin said to him.

  103. Alright. So so Joshua is dev dividing up

  104. the land. Caleb comes

  105. as the representative from Judah.

  106. Why?

  107. Because he's the old man in the house.

  108. I mean, he's the old guy. He is

  109. at least 20 years

  110. older than everyone else in Judah.

  111. You say he was 40 years old when

  112. he spied out the land.

  113. And as a result of the rebellion of

  114. the other 10 spies,

  115. you know, Joshua and he said, we can

  116. take the lamb. But the other 10 said

  117. we could we can't take it because of

  118. that, God said everyone who came out of

  119. Egypt.

  120. 20 years and older wanna die,

  121. which meant

  122. everyone

  123. died

  124. who was

  125. from Joshua age 20 years younger.

  126. So here's Joshua,

  127. and he's basically

  128. you know, 85 years old, we'll talk about

  129. there here in a moment.

  130. And the nearest person to him 65.

  131. And so he's the old man in the

  132. house. And so he comes to Joshua when

  133. he says, you know what the Lord said

  134. to Moses, the man of God at K

  135. barn about you and me. Now if you

  136. go back to the text there in numbers

  137. 14, and we looked at that a few

  138. weeks ago. But because of my servant, Caleb

  139. has a different spirit and follows me how

  140. wholeheartedly.

  141. I will bring him into the land he

  142. went to and his descendants will inherit it.

  143. There's the promise of god.

  144. Okay?

  145. God made a promise to Caleb because you

  146. have been on my side.

  147. I am going to give you an inheritance

  148. in the land. And if you turn over

  149. to D

  150. is the land that he actually spied out.

  151. That's the land he was given.

  152. He will see it, and I will give

  153. him in his descendants us the land. He

  154. sent his feet on.

  155. That was the promise of God.

  156. So if you can just picture the scene

  157. for over 45

  158. years.

  159. Caleb has been waiting for an inheritance.

  160. 45

  161. years.

  162. Longing to go back to the land he

  163. had spied out, longing to take it as

  164. a promise from God.

  165. And now it's time to divide up the

  166. land. And so he comes to Joshua, and

  167. he says, would you please give me that

  168. land? And notice what he says. I was

  169. 40 years old when Moses, the servant of

  170. the Lord sent me from K Barn to

  171. explore the land.

  172. And I brought him back a report according

  173. to my convictions.

  174. 40 years old.

  175. Now it's 45 years later. Joshua was probably

  176. 20

  177. Maybe 30 years old. He's not as old

  178. as as Caleb is. Caleb the oldest living

  179. person in Israel

  180. at this time.

  181. Now then just as the Lord promised he's

  182. kept me alive for 45 years. So they

  183. spent 40 years in the wilderness.

  184. In the last 5 years,

  185. Kayla spent fighting.

  186. 5 years of war.

  187. I mean, y'all think about World war 2.

  188. Started in basically 19 41, December of 41

  189. and went through the summer of 19 45.

  190. They fought longer than that.

  191. They've been fighting for 5 years.

  192. And now he says,

  193. Here I am today, I'm 85

  194. years old.

  195. Now the thing you need to understand

  196. about why this is important is even though

  197. they've been fighting for 5 years.

  198. They've not taking the land.

  199. Not taking it at all.

  200. They've been defeating the can,

  201. they've been capturing territory,

  202. but as far as the whole land of

  203. can, they don't have

  204. hardly any of. And notice why the Lord

  205. your God will drive out the nations before

  206. you

  207. little

  208. by little.

  209. As something I don't think most of us

  210. realize.

  211. Is that when they go into the land,

  212. they set up camp, they begin to fight,

  213. they keep defeating these kings, They're they're destroying

  214. some of the cities. Some of the cities

  215. they'd capture, and then the can would come

  216. back in and re inhabit them.

  217. But notice what he says, you will not

  218. be allowed to eliminate them all at once

  219. are the wild animals will multiply around you.

  220. By the way, y'all ever noticed while animals

  221. multiplying around us.

  222. Anybody have a problem with deer

  223. anybody at all.

  224. I mean,

  225. I... I'm like there's more deer in Henderson

  226. field than there are humans.

  227. I mean, you you you can't grow stuff

  228. in your yard.

  229. You can't put out a garden unless you

  230. put a 15 foot fence up.

  231. I mean, they're

  232. everywhere.

  233. And I don't know about y'all, but when

  234. I was a kid, there were no deer.

  235. Mean, we've gone from no deer to deer

  236. everywhere.

  237. I look at June and I say, oh,

  238. dear.

  239. Man alive, heard these come from.

  240. You know, they're they're everywhere. That was the

  241. concern that God had. He's like, listen. The

  242. wild animals will multiply. If I drive all

  243. of the can out at once. We're gonna

  244. do it little bit by a little,

  245. wanna capture territory.

  246. I'm gonna do a lot to you territory,

  247. and then you've got to go and capture

  248. it.

  249. So 5 years of war,

  250. with many more years

  251. to follow

  252. and Caleb knew that.

  253. I'm still as strong day as the day

  254. Moses sent me out. I'm just as vigorous

  255. as to go out to battle now as

  256. I was then.

  257. I love that. I love the attitude that

  258. that Caleb hat. Now you need to understand

  259. something about Kale. He's 85.

  260. At this time, people are living up a

  261. little bit over a hundred.

  262. Moses lived to be a hundred and 20.

  263. Joshua lived to be a hundred and 10.

  264. And so, basically, when you're trying to figure

  265. out how old would Caleb had been in

  266. comparison to how long we live, the answer

  267. would be somewhere around 50.

  268. Maybe 50 to 55 years old.

  269. And he says, listen. I'm just as strong.

  270. I'm just as vigorous. I'm ready to go

  271. into battle at 50 55 years old as

  272. I ever was,

  273. which leads us to lesson number 1.

  274. 1 of the most important lessons about about

  275. the story of Caleb. Don't let the years

  276. rob you of your spiritual passion.

  277. I mean, there's a lesson that comes out

  278. of the story of Caleb. It is that

  279. we never

  280. retire

  281. from god's work.

  282. I remember several years ago

  283. back at this first church where I served

  284. as a song leader.

  285. I don't back and read some of the

  286. older bulletin and had noticed that there was

  287. this brother in the church that used to

  288. be very active in the church.

  289. I mean, he'd wait on on the table.

  290. He would lead comm thoughts. He would serve

  291. as an usher. I mean, he was head

  292. of commit. I mean, he was very active

  293. in the church.

  294. But since I had been there, I'd never

  295. seen him do anything.

  296. And so 1 day, I went up, and

  297. I just asked

  298. I said, brother, I I noticed that used

  299. to, you did a lot at church. You

  300. were very active at church. I mean, you

  301. were constantly doing things During the worship services.

  302. I mean, you you were leaving comm thoughts,

  303. you were waiting on the table. You were

  304. you were doing this. You were doing that.

  305. But I never... I noticed you you don't

  306. do that anymore Is there a reason for

  307. that.

  308. And I'll never forget what he said to

  309. me.

  310. He said, when I retired,

  311. you

  312. I retired from everything.

  313. And here I am 20 something years old

  314. thinking.

  315. That the way it works.

  316. I mean, do we get up at a

  317. certain age and it's like, okay. It's time

  318. to pass it to a another generation. Now,

  319. we definitely need to pass the torch to

  320. the next generation. And we'll see that while

  321. that's important here in a few moments. But

  322. do we really retire from our service to

  323. god?

  324. 1 of the things that you find in

  325. Romans 12 from the message. Don't burn out.

  326. Keep yourself fueling a flame be alert servants

  327. of the master. Now, I I chose this

  328. translation for a reason.

  329. Earlier in the week, June and I went

  330. camping with my brother and sister law, we

  331. try to do that during the week of

  332. the fourth somewhere, and so we went down

  333. to North Mississippi, and to get down there,

  334. blake, I had to travel through North Alabama.

  335. Okay? I went down to the d,

  336. shot across from D towards tu below. And

  337. and I passed a church

  338. that just caught my attention.

  339. I mean, I just kinda looked at and

  340. like,

  341. sign say what I thought it was? Saying?

  342. And the name of the church was burnt

  343. out baptist church.

  344. I'm serious.

  345. Burnt out baptist church.

  346. And so when I got home, I'm like,

  347. I gotta find out it it's sure enough,

  348. there's a community

  349. down in North Alabama called Burnout, Alabama.

  350. And so the the church there in the

  351. community, the Baptist church just thought, it put

  352. the name up there, burn out Baptist church.

  353. How in the world do you advertise for

  354. that.

  355. Please come to burnout, church to christ where

  356. everybody is burnout.

  357. You

  358. I remember there was a church for a

  359. long time going toward Clark,

  360. x exodus 11, if you go to Clark,

  361. stood of turning back toward Clark where you

  362. turned back toward kind of the northeast, and

  363. there was a community down there named Little

  364. hope.

  365. Yeah. Also... Y'all Know where this is going

  366. don't you.

  367. And and the first time I passed by

  368. the name of the Baptist church was Little

  369. Hope, Baptist church. And I thought, oh, come

  370. on, guys.

  371. Now the last time I passed it, they

  372. finally wise up. They named it new hope.

  373. You know, let's... We we gotta get away

  374. from this little hope. It's killing us.

  375. Well, we as Christians don't need to be

  376. burnout out Christians.

  377. We don't get need to get to a

  378. point where our life where we say, you

  379. know what, we can't do anything anymore. Listen,

  380. we live in age where more and more

  381. of our younger people are losing their faith.

  382. Which means more and more of our older

  383. people have got to stand strong.

  384. And and I mean Joe got up while

  385. ago, and he said it right. He said,

  386. we're We're in the richest nation. We're the

  387. richest generation of this ever lived. We have

  388. more gifts, more talents, more ability, more experienced

  389. than even any people before us.

  390. It's not time to quit.

  391. We need to be like Caleb.

  392. So Caleb says, now give me this il

  393. country that the Lord promised me that day.

  394. You yourself heard then that the ami

  395. were there and their cities were large and

  396. fortified.

  397. But and I I need you to notice

  398. this. The Lord helping me.

  399. I will drive

  400. them out just as he said.

  401. Now, if you go back to numbers, this

  402. is what I love about it. When they

  403. came back,

  404. it's evidently,

  405. Caleb

  406. who announced, you know, there's giants living there.

  407. They went up through the ne gap, came

  408. to He braun where, a hem

  409. chi shy and tell my the descendants of

  410. A lived.

  411. Okay? This is the land

  412. that Caleb asking for. Now, I want you

  413. to pick up on this.

  414. Caleb spied the land out,

  415. not only spied it out, but recognize there

  416. were these giant guys living there,

  417. and he got their names.

  418. What do y'all all think about that?

  419. And he comes back and he says there's

  420. 3 of there in particular.

  421. A hem,

  422. Chi and Tal mai.

  423. And y'all, we can take it. Everybody else,

  424. no. No No. We're like grasshopper against these

  425. people.

  426. And so they weren't allowed

  427. to go into the land because of their

  428. lack of faith.

  429. But you know what Caleb did?

  430. Caleb remembered their names.

  431. And for 45 years,

  432. these 3 guys. And I have to think

  433. that they probably were younger than Caleb at

  434. the time.

  435. You know, he went and spot out He

  436. run. Here's these 3 giants

  437. maybe in their late twenties, any he's thinking,

  438. okay. They think they are so bad.

  439. They're not nearly as bad as they think

  440. they are.

  441. If you go back to Joshua,

  442. notice what the text says. From He

  443. Caleb,

  444. drove out the 3 an.

  445. She shy, a hem and tell my, the

  446. sons of A.

  447. Now y'all, he didn't kill them.

  448. He drove them out,

  449. and you go hal.

  450. By the way,

  451. and and stan may correct me on that.

  452. I hope I'm not wrong on this. But

  453. the name Caleb, the 3 letters in Hebrew

  454. that make up the name Caleb is actually

  455. the Hebrew word for dog.

  456. Dog.

  457. I had a good friend who several years

  458. ago came up to me when his first

  459. son was born. And he said last, we

  460. got a son, God's given us a son

  461. and we've given him made great bible name,

  462. 1 of the Hebrews of the Old testament

  463. we named him Caleb.

  464. And I looked at him and I said,

  465. did you research the name of that the

  466. meaning of that name?

  467. He said, no.

  468. I said,

  469. Caleb in Hebrew means dog,

  470. and he just looked at me.

  471. And then he said, don't you tell my

  472. wife?

  473. We named our son, dog.

  474. Well, let me tell you It's not just

  475. dog. Dog can be by the way in

  476. the old... In in in the bible dog

  477. is sometimes a word meaning trustworthy.

  478. Faithful. Sometimes it's a very...

  479. Word. And so it can be either side

  480. of it. But basically, what you had here

  481. is that Caleb was the pit bull.

  482. That God sent up against these 3 giants.

  483. And basically what he said is, he runs

  484. not big enough for the 4 of us,

  485. and you guys are leaving.

  486. And can you imagine the sigh

  487. when after Caleb got finished with them, and

  488. they're dragging themselves out of He,

  489. where they going? They didn't have a clue?

  490. But they couldn't live there anymore

  491. because Caleb had driven them out.

  492. With god's help,

  493. nothing is impossible.

  494. You know, Jesus said something in John 14

  495. that we we need to step back and

  496. think about a little bit. You may ask

  497. me for anything in my name and I

  498. will do it. We we sometimes

  499. misunderstand that. We think that in my name

  500. simply means saying in Jesus name at the

  501. end of the prayer.

  502. That's not what Jesus is saying here.

  503. What Jesus is saying is, you may ask

  504. me for anything.

  505. His name is his identity.

  506. His name yes, s God saves mean that

  507. you can ask anything having to do with

  508. who I am.

  509. As the 1 who saves the world, and

  510. I will do it.

  511. John later own would kind of,

  512. in my view, correct it when he says,

  513. this is the confidence we have in approaching

  514. God that if we ask anything

  515. according to his wheel.

  516. In

  517. who Jesus is.

  518. He hears us. And if we know that

  519. he hears us, Whatever we ask, we know

  520. that we have what we ask of him.

  521. The point simply being folks that listen, when

  522. we ask for something that's in the will

  523. of God, God is willing and ready to

  524. respond.

  525. God had called the upon Israel to drive

  526. out the can.

  527. Here was Caleb saying, Lord, I'm ready to

  528. do it.

  529. If you'll just help me and God said,

  530. I will help you.

  531. And you know if there's anything that we

  532. need to realize is that God has a

  533. power

  534. available to us. As long as as a

  535. power used to advance his calls,

  536. that's absolutely amazing.

  537. You go to ephesians 3 now to him

  538. who is able to do

  539. me more than all we ask or imagine.

  540. Our problem is not. That we don't have

  541. the ability to do it. Our problem is

  542. we don't have the

  543. imagination to do it.

  544. And that's what God is calling us to.

  545. He has given us a purpose and he

  546. says, I'm with you, and I empower you

  547. to do it. As long as you're doing

  548. what I've called you to do.

  549. Then number 3,

  550. and I love this lesson Caleb was happy

  551. to work behind the scenes.

  552. We all know Joshua.

  553. Joshua becomes the name becomes the name Jesus

  554. in the new testament.

  555. Joshua is the 1 that got picked to

  556. replace Moses.

  557. Even though you had caleb over here, older

  558. than Joshua

  559. an incredible leader,

  560. and yet a leader who's willing to work

  561. behind the scenes. We read about him in

  562. the exploration in number 13. We read about

  563. him here in Joshua

  564. as they're dividing up the land. We read

  565. about him in the book of judges the

  566. very first chapter. That's it it.

  567. Caleb doesn't show up anymore. Nowhere found in

  568. the new testament.

  569. And so you gotta ask yourself

  570. What's going on with Caitlin.

  571. And Kayla reminds me in the old brother

  572. years ago.

  573. Who who used to tell me last, I

  574. don't like to be front.

  575. I'm not I'm not that kind of leader.

  576. I I don't wanna be out there, you

  577. know, leading

  578. songs or leading in worship or teaching. He

  579. says, I just don't have those abilities.

  580. Says, but what I can do

  581. is I can help people.

  582. He was no old Greyhound bus, retired Greyhound

  583. bus driver.

  584. And and what he would do when he

  585. wasn't driving his bus as he would help

  586. people, especially with us.

  587. I mean, he would go and he would

  588. work at their houses.

  589. He would go and he would mow their

  590. yards.

  591. My next door neighbor was a retired Greyhound

  592. bus driver and he got down where he

  593. couldn't take care of his yard Guess who

  594. showed up every week to mow he is

  595. yard. This older brother there at the church

  596. I was working at.

  597. If I was going on vacation, guess l,

  598. guess who else is yard got mode.

  599. Mine and June got moved.

  600. I mean, we would pull in. And we'd

  601. say, old brother son. So he's been added

  602. again.

  603. He would come up to me at church,

  604. and he would say last we need a

  605. new sign out at the road. They signs

  606. looking kinda up. Don't you think? I said,

  607. oh, yeah.

  608. He said, what would it cost to replace

  609. that sign? I I don't I don't have

  610. a clue. He said find out.

  611. And I'd I go find out, and I'd

  612. call him up, and I say, hey. The

  613. cost of replacing that sign would be, you

  614. know, 10000 dollars, he would say do it.

  615. And I'll write a check for it.

  616. He came in 1 day, and he says,

  617. you know, I'm getting old. I can't hear

  618. real good. Anybody got that problem beside me.

  619. You know?

  620. By the way, I have to ask June

  621. to repeat herself all the time.

  622. And I've decided it's 1 of 2 problems.

  623. Either June talking like this all the time.

  624. And by the way, some of y'all know

  625. that,

  626. or my hearings not as good.

  627. My gas is is a little of both.

  628. But anyway, this brother came in and they

  629. says, I can't quite hear. How old is

  630. our sound system? I said, I think it

  631. goes back to when we built the building?

  632. He said, how much would it cost to

  633. put a new sound system in. By the

  634. way, if you put in a new sound

  635. system lately anywhere?

  636. I mean, even at the house, it's gonna

  637. cost you.

  638. And so I said, well, I'll find out

  639. and I went and told him he said

  640. put it in, I'll write the check.

  641. He was 1 of these guys who was

  642. always behind the scenes,

  643. serving,

  644. helping,

  645. encouraging.

  646. Doing what he could. That was Caleb.

  647. Caleb was someone who didn't want the limelight.

  648. He just wanted to do what God had

  649. called him to do.

  650. And because of this Joshua Blessed.

  651. Son of Jeff

  652. gave him He as an inheritance. And I

  653. love verse 14,

  654. So He has belonged to Caleb, Son of

  655. Jeff, the Kin I ever says. He took

  656. the land.

  657. By the way, I don't know if you

  658. remember what He was.

  659. He square Abraham bought a cave.

  660. It's where he buried Sarah

  661. it's where he was buried.

  662. Is where Isaac was buried.

  663. Rebecca.

  664. It's where Jacob,

  665. Leah,

  666. It's where evidently. They carried the bones back,

  667. of Joseph to bury where in he, but

  668. they had to capture it first.

  669. I think that's why Caleb wanted that land.

  670. The text goes on though and and then

  671. takes an odd turn.

  672. After a Joshua dismissed the Israel israelites, and

  673. this is over in the book of judges.

  674. They went to take possession of the land.

  675. Okay? In other words, they started fighting, they

  676. started taking possession of the land. They've been

  677. here now for years.

  678. But, I mean, they still have a lot

  679. of work to do. And the people serve

  680. the lord throughout the lifetime of Joshua and

  681. of the elders who out lived and who

  682. had seen all the great things the Lord

  683. had done for Israel.

  684. But if you know the book of judges.

  685. You know what happens next it's not good.

  686. Look at what the text says.

  687. After that whole generation had been gathered to

  688. their ancestors.

  689. Another generation grew up

  690. who knew neither of the Lord nor what

  691. he had done for Israel?

  692. How long does it take for a country?

  693. To forget God.

  694. When generation.

  695. That's all it takes.

  696. John Mike and I we're talking about this

  697. this morning.

  698. And I ask, are we living in that

  699. generation?

  700. A generation that says we don't wanna serve

  701. God anymore?

  702. We wanna serve the gods around us.

  703. Because that's what the israel israelites did.

  704. The israelites did evil in the eyes of

  705. the Lord. They forgot the Lord their God.

  706. They serve the by Als, the Ash

  707. that was... Those were the gods of the

  708. of the can.

  709. And the anger of the Lord burned against

  710. Israel so that he sold him into the

  711. hands by of K,

  712. Res,

  713. king of Ara,

  714. ara, na

  715. Stand next time, you're gonna have to come

  716. up and read that for you. Okay? Alright.

  717. To whom the israelites were subject for 8

  718. years.

  719. In other words, God said, you don't remember

  720. the slavery you had in Egypt.

  721. Your grandfather suffered that.

  722. I wanna give you a taste of it.

  723. And of course, the people repent

  724. and God, at that time, and the name

  725. of the book, of course, is judges

  726. would raise up a judge to deliver them.

  727. You might wanna guess who you raised up,

  728. watch this.

  729. But when they cried out to the Lord,

  730. raised up for them to deliver, Auth, son

  731. of Kin as, Caleb younger

  732. brother.

  733. Who saved them. Now, you look at this,

  734. you go, okay, so it's Caleb nephew. Well,

  735. it's not just Caleb nephew.

  736. But Caleb needed to take a town. He

  737. said, whoever takes this town, I'm gonna get

  738. my daughter to them as a wife, and

  739. I else the 1 who took it. So

  740. he ended up marrying

  741. his first cousin.

  742. And I know some of y'all going. You're

  743. kidding me. Now, they did that back then.

  744. See legal in Tennessee now. If y'all haven't

  745. heard.

  746. We we we've made right,

  747. feral, we we passed the law say you

  748. keep married your first cousin anymore.

  749. So go down to Mississippi. You'll be alright.

  750. But anyway,

  751. I wish I could laugh at that board,

  752. but I can't.

  753. Alright.

  754. But this is Caleb Son law.

  755. Who becomes the first judge of Israel.

  756. I can't help but wonder, why did god

  757. choose him?

  758. Was it because of the influence of his

  759. father law?

  760. His uncle.

  761. The 1 who from the beginning,

  762. followed

  763. wholeheartedly.

  764. What made Caleb of such an inspiration for

  765. God's people ever sense

  766. because Caleb love God with all of his

  767. heart soul and strength. Those are the words

  768. of God.

  769. Not not not our words, not the the

  770. writers of the bible, but god's words. So

  771. He has blown to Caleb son of Jeff

  772. Du, the Kin every sense because he followed

  773. the Lord the God of Israel

  774. wholeheartedly.

  775. In other words, he had taken to heart

  776. what Moses has said in g, hero Israel.

  777. Lord our God, the Lord is 1. So

  778. you love the Lord your God with all

  779. your heart with all your soul and with

  780. all your strength.

  781. And that's what Caleb bit done.

  782. So as we get older,

  783. and I will speak to those of us

  784. who are older.

  785. As we get older.

  786. We have a choice we have to make.

  787. We can begin to back off.

  788. Now, listen, I understand that we can't do

  789. what we used to do. Alright. I understand

  790. that at all too well.

  791. I don't know about y'all this week, but

  792. I'd go outside for 10 minutes and then

  793. go inside for 2 hours to rest.

  794. I mean, that... That's that's what the heat

  795. will do to me nowadays.

  796. But when it comes to the kingdom of

  797. God,

  798. I don't think we should ever retire.

  799. And what keeps us from retiring is that

  800. whole hard love.

  801. That devotion that Jesus said this is the

  802. first and the greatest of the commandments

  803. follow it,

  804. and everything else will fall into its place.

  805. And so speaking once again to those of

  806. us who are older.

  807. Where are you at with your walk with

  808. God?

  809. If you got to the point for you've

  810. given up, I hope not.

  811. I hope like Caleb that all of us

  812. can say, you know what? I'm just as

  813. strong spiritually today. In fact, stronger spiritually today

  814. than I used to be. Why? Because I

  815. love God with all my heart soul and

  816. strength.

  817. That's what the church at Henderson needs more

  818. than anything else. Yes, we need our young

  819. people.

  820. And we oftentimes speak to our young people,

  821. but we need those of you who are

  822. older as well.

  823. We need your abilities, your talents, your gifts,

  824. your ability to make this church what God

  825. wants it to be. And if you've not

  826. been doing that. Maybe it's time to rec

  827. Maybe it's time to say God, I'm coming

  828. back.

  829. If we can help you in any way

  830. and respond to the gospel.

  831. Let us know how we can right now

  832. as we stand the scene.
