  1. Father, open our eyes so that we may see beyond

  2. the letters. In the name of Jesus, we ask o God,

  3. that you will interpret your word to our hearts. In

  4. the name of Jesus, ladiar b revelation and impartition. In

  5. Jesus mighty name, we pray.

  6. Amen.

  7. So we have read today from the Book of Ezra,

  8. chapter eight twenty one to twenty three. The Bible said,

  9. then I proclaimed a fast there at the river a Havah,

  10. that we might humble ourselves before our God to seek

  11. from him a safe journey for ourselves, our children, and

  12. all our goods. For I was ashamed to as the

  13. King for a band of soldiers and horsemen to protect

  14. us against the enemy on our way. Since we had

  15. told the King the hand of our God is for

  16. good on all who seek him, and the power of

  17. his wrath is against all who forsake him. So we

  18. fasted and implored our God for this, and he listened

  19. to our entreaty. Let's go to verse thirty one. In

  20. verse thirty one, the Bible says, then we departed from

  21. the river our Havur on the twelfth day of the

  22. first month to go to Jerusalem. The hand of our

  23. God was on us, and it delivered us from the

  24. end end of the enemy and from the ambushes. By

  25. the way, I pray for somebody this money. As you

  26. journey through the year twenty twenty five, the Lord will

  27. deliver you and your family from the ends of your

  28. enemies in the name of Jesus, and from every ambush

  29. that the enemy might keep on your way, in the

  30. Mighty name of Jesus. Entering a new face, I want

  31. to disclose this money. Entering into newness through fasting and prayer.

  32. Entering into newness through fasting and prayers. Entering the new

  33. face of life usual will bring fear uncertainty, But as

  34. believe us, we can seek God's direction and assure us

  35. through first and prayer. In Exra chapter twenty one to

  36. twenty three, we see a practical example of how to

  37. rely on God when we face challenges in our lives.

  38. So in this study briefly, we want to look at

  39. very important thing about entering into newness through fasting and prayer,

  40. just like it has been displayed in that little play.

  41. Late a lot of people find it difficult to fast today,

  42. and I don't know why it is. So I don't

  43. know why it is so, But there's a card this money.

  44. If we must enter into newness, if we must enter

  45. into a new face, if we must enter into a

  46. new opportunities, if we must enter into a new level,

  47. if we must get on to touch the heart of God,

  48. it is important that we first and pray. Ezra, in

  49. the Book of extra chapter eight ad gone to the king,

  50. and the Bible says that they met at the I

  51. have a river, and they have to consider what they

  52. need to do before they proceed on that journey. If

  53. you look at that chapter eight of the Book of Ezra,

  54. you'll see the list of those who were to go

  55. on that journey. Then you see the list of attendance

  56. for the temple. But somehow things were not complete at

  57. that I have a river. They needed to call some

  58. attendance who we journey with them, delivereds who we journey

  59. with them, And that was why they were at that

  60. I have a river. But prior to that time, in

  61. chapter seven, there was a call. The Bible says that

  62. in verse eleven, from versus eleven to verse twenty four,

  63. we see a letter I was watty by king attacked axis,

  64. and in verse twelve the Bible reads attacked Axis, King

  65. of Kings to Ezra, the priest, a teacher of the

  66. law of the God of Heaven, Greetings, Now, I decree

  67. that any of the Israelites in my kingdom, including priests

  68. and Levites, who wish to go to Jerusalem with you,

  69. may go. You are sent by the King and his

  70. seven advisers to inquire about Judah and Jerusalem with regard

  71. to the law of your God, which is in your hand.

  72. At this point in time, Jerusalem was not in good condition.

  73. But God has put it in the hearts of King

  74. Ahazerus or attacked Axis, as written here, so that these

  75. people will go and check out what the condition of

  76. that city of Jerusalem was like. And so Ezra was

  77. called upon. And when Ezra responded to this as part

  78. of his response in verse twenty seven and twenty eight,

  79. the Bible says, Ezra responded, Praise be to the Lord,

  80. the God of our fathers, who has put it into

  81. the King's art to bring honor to the House of

  82. the Lord in Jerusalem in this way, and all has

  83. extended is good favor to me before the King and

  84. his advisers and all the King's powerful officials. Because the

  85. end of the Lord, my God was on me. I

  86. took courage and gathered leading men from Israel to go

  87. up with me. And that was what happened. Before we

  88. go to chapter eight where we see the text that

  89. we're reading today. So we see Ezra, who was a

  90. prey and a leader. He was tasked with our responsibility

  91. of leading the group of Jewish exiles from Barbylon back

  92. to Jerusalem. So he was to take them back to Jerusalem.

  93. And the journey was dangerous as the group they carried

  94. a lot of valuable things that they needed on the way,

  95. and they were carrying them along with them. Some of

  96. these things they need them in the building of the temple.

  97. So Ezra recognized the need for divine protection and guidance,

  98. and he didn't want to ask the king because he said,

  99. we had told God that the end of the Lord

  100. is upon those who look to him. So instead of

  101. seeking military protection from the Passian king, Ezra proclaimed a

  102. first to seek God's help, demonstrating his faith and dependence

  103. on God. But look at our text. Let's take a

  104. look that texts and just get a few things from there,

  105. and then we will close. In verse twenty one, the

  106. Bible says, then I proclaimed a first there at the

  107. river a Harbur, that we might humble ourselves before our

  108. God to seek from Him the right way for us

  109. and our little ones and all our possessions. Exra call

  110. for a fast and calling for a first. Last year,

  111. when we had our fasting and prayer, we looked at

  112. the Book of Daniel, and even this year, as we

  113. began to pray about the church, in our seven days

  114. of fasting and prayer, we looked at one important thing

  115. that we need as children of God. The essence of

  116. fasting and prayer is for us to humble ourselves. It's

  117. a picture of surrenderness, saying to God that we depend

  118. on him. We don't have the ability to carry on

  119. this assignment, the journey of twenty twenty five. We can

  120. now run through it by ourselves. We need the Lord

  121. to help us. And running through that journey first there

  122. was a physical expression of their spiritual need. They knew

  123. they need an help and they are to seek the Lord.

  124. Ezra said that we may humble, that we might humble

  125. ourselves before God to seek from Him.

  126. The right way.

  127. How many of us have jumped into the year twenty

  128. twenty five and thinking that we can do it by ourselves.

  129. You see, this is the eraor that we commit many

  130. of us. In so many places, fasting has been taken

  131. like a ritual. It is not a ritual. As a church,

  132. we have called for fasting. I know that many of

  133. us did not do it, but it's okay. What's important

  134. is that God is looking for the hearts that were

  135. diligently seek him. But I want to encourage us. When

  136. the church casts for fasting and prayer, please be part

  137. of it. Even in our own individual lives. Let's be

  138. part of the firsting and prayer. The goal of this

  139. first thing was to seek God's guidance for their journey

  140. and ensure the safety of their families and belongings. Excuse me,

  141. in the year twenty twenty five, have you sought the

  142. face of God for the safety of your family? Have

  143. you sought the safety of God for the safety of

  144. your belongings? As a journey in the year twenty twenty five,

  145. if you run the way you did in twenty twenty four,

  146. and you run twenty twenty five that way, you're going

  147. to achieve the same result that you achieved in twenty

  148. twenty four. But for you to have something different, there

  149. is need for you to have a different approach to it.

  150. Harumple yourself before the Lord and sack his face, so

  151. that you will know the right way for you to go.

  152. In the year twenty twenty five, look a verse twenty two,

  153. the Bible says, for I was ashamed to request of

  154. the King and escort of soldiers and us men to

  155. air paus against the enemy on the road, because we

  156. have spoken to the King saying, the end of our

  157. God is upon all those for good who seek him.

  158. But his power and it's rough is against all those

  159. who forsaken. Which part of it are you? Are you

  160. among those who are forsaking the Lord? Or you are

  161. among those who seek? In that verse twenty two says

  162. this again, Ezra was ashamed to request of the king

  163. for police escorts. Why was it ashamed to ask? Because

  164. he had said to the King that the ends of

  165. God is on those who seeking, and against those who forsaken.

  166. As a journey through year twenty twenty five, on our way,

  167. our obstacles on our ways, our challenges on our ways, our.

  168. Enemies waiting to divorce.

  169. Already are you for those enemies that are going to

  170. attack Ezras. Feith was consistent with his testimony about God's protection.

  171. He recognized that seeking human help could undermind the group's

  172. trust in God's promises. He depended on God, and he

  173. trusted God to help him. In verse twenty three, the

  174. Bible says, so we firsted and then treated God for

  175. ease for this, and He answered our prayer. The first

  176. was not merely abstaining from food, but an act of

  177. ennest prayer and seeking God's intervention. Now, let me quickly

  178. say this. For many of us when we're engaged with fasting,

  179. fasting is denying yourself of pleasures, all right, denying yourself

  180. of pleasure, things that ordinarily you will do. You need

  181. to deny yourself of those things. That's basically what fasting

  182. is about. But fasting is not complete, or that exercise

  183. is not complete, unless it is added with prayer. And

  184. the way we do it in this church, we have

  185. schedules of prayer each time we go for fasting. So

  186. at nine am, wherever you are, you're enjoyed to pray.

  187. At twelve noon, you're enjoyed to pray. At three pm,

  188. you're enjoyed to pray. And by six pm, we come

  189. back to the church and all of us we pray together.

  190. Fasting and prayer is not a time for you to

  191. sit with Nollywood or Holiwood and be waiting for the

  192. time for food to start and then you say you

  193. are fasted. No, you have not. It's a time for

  194. us to humble ourselves. It's a time for us to

  195. separate ourselves from everything that is going to distract us.

  196. By my saying that you do not go to work

  197. during that period, no, nobody's saying that. That's not what

  198. it is. That's not what it is. The first when

  199. you're first, is for us to abstain from those things

  200. that we distract us. We want to focus on God,

  201. and it is not complete without prayer.

  202. God or not.

  203. They are faith and answered their prayers and God provided

  204. at the assurance and protection they needed. So when you

  205. get to verse thirty one that I read the other time,

  206. you will see that God actually answered that prayer. And

  207. the call is for us again today as members of

  208. Shilo Baptist Church. We don't just throw fasting because food

  209. is not available in the house. No, that's not what

  210. fasting is. It's a call, a call to respond to God,

  211. a call to depend on God. What are the key

  212. lessons that want to bring out from this passage? Number

  213. one is that fasting reflects humility and dependence on God.

  214. So when you're first, it is to humble yourself and

  215. depend on what God alone can do. First thing with

  216. apples as believers to recognize our need for God and

  217. to focus on Him, not to focus on ourselves. Fasting

  218. means an opportunity of putting aside distraction and focus on

  219. what is important in the spirit realm. And that's why

  220. we first. What other lesson do you have? There? Other

  221. lesson is that prayer aligns us with God's win. It's

  222. God saying that you should take that step. If you're

  223. confused about that thing, can you take a moment and

  224. just first about remove yourself from any distraction and focus

  225. on God.

  226. Lord.

  227. I need your direction Firsting with that prayer is incomplete, Ezra.

  228. Combined fasting with the favent prayer to seek God's guidance,

  229. prayer will invite God's intervention and help us to align

  230. to position us with God's purpose for our lives. What

  231. is God's purpose for your life in the year twenty

  232. twenty five? In that text. Again, we see that faith

  233. requires action. Faith requires action. It is not enough to

  234. say I believe God, but you're not ready to do anything.

  235. Ezra's decision to trust God rather than seeking military assistance

  236. shows is already lent in faith. He trusted God and

  237. God came to his health. We see that when we

  238. trust God. That's the fourth thing that you see there,

  239. that God always rewards those who seek. In the groups

  240. were fasting and they were praying, and the result was

  241. that the prayer was answered and God guided. As you

  242. enter into the new season, into the new years, into

  243. this new opportunity, into these new challenges, are you ready

  244. for what is ahead of you? When you're about to

  245. start a new job, when you're about to start a

  246. new relationship, when you're about to start a new project,

  247. when you're about to do anything new, do you take

  248. a moment to seek God for direction? Oh, you're just looking.

  249. Many of us have met God. We have entered into

  250. some errors that we should not have entered into because

  251. we didn't even consult with God before we enter into

  252. that journey. And now things are going wrong in that assignment.

  253. Entering new season in our family, we need the guidance

  254. of God, parents can seek God's wisdom for their family

  255. as parents this year, what is the Lord saying about you?

  256. What is the Lord saying about your family members? What

  257. is the Lord saying about your children? What is the

  258. Lord saying about your job? What is the Lord saying

  259. about your commitments? About your coming to charge? What is

  260. the Lord saying this year about your relationship with him?

  261. What is the Lord saying this year? Many of us,

  262. God has given us the opportunity to serve in the

  263. household of God. Did you, even brother, to seek the

  264. face of God and ask for his direction before you

  265. take that decision? In times of spiritual leadership or ministry assignments,

  266. fasting and prayer can bring clarity and divine empowerment. Let's

  267. not just rationalize and say this is where I want

  268. to do it, and I will just do it that way.

  269. No, it is not enough.

  270. Let us wait on the Lord. What are the steps

  271. for fasting and prayer? What are the practical steps for

  272. fasting and prayer? As a denomination, we have entering into

  273. newness through fasting and prayer, and it will not be

  274. complete until we actually get involved with prayer and firsty

  275. and so I want to admonish each and every member

  276. of Shilob Baptist Church. Please not because they have said it.

  277. Even for your personal life, you need, you need to pray,

  278. You need to first. What are the practical things that

  279. we can do. Number one is plan your first the tourney,

  280. the type and the duration of your first before you

  281. engage your needs. Don't just begin today because there's no breakfast.

  282. You say, are we turn it too firsty? You will

  283. have prayer points and a lot of people do that

  284. kind of fasting. Since I've missed breakfast today, let me

  285. just turn it too firsty and prayer or fasting, and

  286. you don't even know what to pray about? What is

  287. the mind of God for that that you are doing,

  288. What is the relevance of what you are engaging in?

  289. Or you just want to beat out time because you

  290. want to just impress somebody. So when you plan your

  291. first is it seven days? Is it three days? Is

  292. it a one day of first and prayer? Is it

  293. twenty one days? Is it forty days? Is it one

  294. hundred days? Is it seventy days? Is it three hundred

  295. and sixty five days? That you want to fast and

  296. pray one year, you can commit to that prayer in

  297. as much as you trust God for that which you

  298. are seeking His faithful But you don't just first. You

  299. must combine with prayer. Dedicate specific times during the first

  300. to focus on prayer and scripture reading. You'll bear me

  301. witness for those of us who have been involved in

  302. fasting and prayer. In Shiloh Baptist Church, we have Bibles

  303. passage to read and from the Bible passage, the Lord

  304. opens our eyes to see prayers and we bring the

  305. prayers out of that Bible passage because they say focus.

  306. We are not just fasting because we want to fulfill

  307. all righteousness. No, no, no, that's not just the reason.

  308. We are seeking the face of God for that which

  309. we help us to grow in our relationship with Him

  310. and to seek for God's direction. Number threeteen in the

  311. practical step is that you must identify your needs. Why

  312. are you fasting? This is very important. Don't just jump

  313. into fasting. Why am I fasting? And that we guide you.

  314. You have to be intentional, Aby what you are seeking God?

  315. I need a child this year. Lord, I believe you

  316. are the one who can did it.

  317. Lord. My admission must come this Yeah.

  318. Can you take a moment and just wait on the

  319. Lord for it. Father, enough of this engagement and disengagement.

  320. Engagement and disengagement. My life must make money this year.

  321. Many of us are not tired of the way we

  322. are living our lives. If you are tired of the

  323. way you are living your life, one way you can

  324. do it is to engage in fasting and prayer and

  325. ask God to change that situation. Above all of these steps,

  326. you must trust God, fightfulness, expect God to answer as

  327. you seek him.

  328. Ennesley, you must trust God number one.

  329. Plan your first number two, combine it with prayer. Number three.

  330. Know what you are seeking God for number four, trust God.

  331. If you do this, God will step writing. God will

  332. indicate you God with one situation of things around for

  333. us in the name of Jesus. What areas of your

  334. life require God's guidance today? How can you set aside

  335. time for fasting and prayer to seek him? Endleestly, don't

  336. just keep on managing life when you can take decision

  337. over those conditions. This message will not be complete unless

  338. we take action. And so we are going to declare

  339. a day of fasting and prayer. And I want to

  340. encourage everybody to be part of it. Is everybody listening

  341. to me want to declare a day of fasting and prayer.

  342. M Chairman please rise, wm you President, please rise, Youth

  343. President place rise. These three people are going to represent

  344. the church. We're going to declare a day each for

  345. these three groups, all right, a day each for these

  346. three groups in the church. And we're taking that decision

  347. right now. The men, I'm going to just give you

  348. three minutes. The men, you're going to meet with yourself

  349. there and you're going to decide on the day that

  350. you are going to first and pray, and all of

  351. you will come to church. You will come to church

  352. and pray in the church, all right, So go ahead,

  353. make consultation and give me the dates. The same thing

  354. with WMU Presidents meet with the mothers right now between

  355. now and two sundays time. So this Sunday, next Sunday,

  356. and then the upper Sunday, that's a the ninth day,

  357. right see February nine. Now, so this Sunday, next Sunday,

  358. and then the upper Sunday. Between these three Sundays the prayer,

  359. you will choose a day, all right. Youth presidents, please

  360. go ahead meet with your fellow youth. I'll give us

  361. three minutes. Decide on the day. Decide on the day

  362. that you are going to wait on the Lord. And

  363. on that very day, on that very day, you will

  364. all meet in church. So the day men are meeting

  365. in church, the women and the youth are not there.

  366. The day women are meeting in church, the youth and

  367. the men will not be there. The day youth are

  368. meeting in church, the women and the men will not

  369. be there. I want us to take this very seriously. Men,

  370. Which day the meeting time is six pm? The meeting

  371. time of that day is six pm. It could be

  372. six to six thirty six to six forty five, but

  373. not six to seven. So six pm. Yes, men, Which day?

  374. Which Friday? Thirty first of January?

  375. All right?

  376. So thirty first of January. Men are fasting and praying.

  377. Men are fasting and praying. I will tell you what

  378. your focus will be. But this is our this is

  379. our text, all right. But I will tell you what

  380. the prayer would be. The direction would be, yes, ma'am,

  381. on the eighth of February. On the eighth of February.

  382. That's a Saturday, all right, eighth of February. Okay, So

  383. on that eighth of February Saturday, all women, all women

  384. of Shilo Baptist Church, you are going to be fasting

  385. and praying. So by six in the evening, you're going

  386. to come here and pray. Yes, youth, seventh of February.

  387. That's on Friday, Friday, seventh of February. All right, So

  388. thirty first, eight and seventh, al right, thank you very much,

  389. God bless you in Jesus' name. Now when you are coming,

  390. you see there is difference between prayer and Bible study.

  391. Do you understand, So when you are coming to pray,

  392. you are coming to pray. Now, I want to encourage

  393. everyone of us write your personal prayer points for each

  394. of these group. I'm going to be there, but I'm

  395. not going to lead prayer. Don't think the pastor is

  396. going to leave even benediction. That will not do. I'm

  397. a member. I'm just going to be there. I will

  398. pray along with you for all of those three days.

  399. All right? Are we all together? All right?

  400. Now?

  401. This is the focus of our prayer. Our focus is

  402. this help and intervention. We're going to be seeking God

  403. for help and intervention. That's the main thing, all right,

  404. So on that it is. You are going to capture yourself.

  405. You are going to capture your family, You are going

  406. to capture the church. You are going to capture our community,

  407. all our communities. Then you are going to capture Nigeria. Yourself,

  408. your family, your church, your communities, and your country Nigeria.

  409. All of these we're going to be putting together in

  410. that prayer. I don't know if God is going to

  411. lead us will leave it because I know each of

  412. these group they have prayer coordinators. So assign your prayer

  413. coordinators to lead, and the Lord we guide us. In

  414. the mighty name of Jesus. I want this entire auditorium
