  1. A prayer that which the Lord has started it will

  2. complete in everyone. In the name of Jesus Christ, we

  3. want to remind ourselves on the matters of marriage. And

  4. so today and next Sunday, by the grace of God,

  5. and I think it has to go for three sessions.

  6. Of these it's important that we go for three sessions

  7. because very many times when we talk about issue of marriage,

  8. we usually leave out the singles, single mothers, single fathers,

  9. the widows and widowers. So these sessions will be divided

  10. into three. So this session one we want to talk

  11. about God's design for courtship and marriage. We'll be looking

  12. at God's design for courtship and marriage. The second session

  13. is going to be looking at the issue of divorce.

  14. What has Bible got to say about the matter of divorce.

  15. Then the third part is going to come and it

  16. has to do with encouragement to widows, widowers, single fathers,

  17. single mothers. And I pray that God himself we speak

  18. to us in a way that we will understand. In

  19. the name of Jesus Christ, Father, we ask that your

  20. mind will be declared through our engagement with your word.

  21. This morney in the name of Jesus Lord, we pray

  22. that homes will be healed, relationships will be restored by

  23. the release of your healing power. This money in the

  24. name of Jesus. Lord annoys me with the word of life.

  25. Let your world be saved afresh from your throne of

  26. grace in the name of Jesus. Take over by the

  27. power of your annoying Lord. And let dear bit testimonies

  28. of divine encounter that we bring transformation in our homes.

  29. In the name of Jesus. Thank you, Gracious God. In

  30. Jesus mighty name, we pray. Amen. Let's begin our Bible

  31. reading from the Book of Genesis, Chapter two eighteen, Genesis

  32. two eighteen. Then we go to twenty one to twenty

  33. four Genesis eighteen, Genesis eighteen, Sorry, Genesis two, Genesis two,

  34. Verse eighteen, Genesis to verse eighteen. Then we go to

  35. twenty one to twenty four. This is what the Bible says.

  36. Verse eighteen says, and the Lord God said, it is

  37. not good for the man to be alone, and we

  38. make a companion who will help him Verse twenty one.

  39. So the Lord God cast Adam to fall into a

  40. deep sleep. He took one of Adam's ReBs and closed

  41. up the place from which he had taken it. Then

  42. the Lord God made a woman from the rib and

  43. brought her to Adam twenty three. At last, Adam exclaimed,

  44. she is part of my own flesh and bone. She

  45. will be called woman because she was taken out of

  46. a man. Verse twenty four. This explains why a man

  47. leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife,

  48. and the two are united into one. Proverbs Chapter eighteen,

  49. verse twenty two. Proverbs eighteen and twenty two, Proverbs It

  50. twenty two. The Bible says, the man who finds a

  51. wife finds a treasure and receives favor from the Lord.

  52. The man who finds a wife finds a treasure and

  53. receives favor from the Lord. The last part Ephicians, Chapter five,

  54. verse twenty five. Ephicians five twenty five. Ephicians five twenty five.

  55. And you, husbands, must love your wife's with the same

  56. love Christ showed the Church he gave up his life

  57. for her, made the Lord had many to his word

  58. in the name of Jesus. As I was speaking, preparing

  59. for this someone this money, I actually had prepared my

  60. slide because I wanted it to be a lot more interactive,

  61. but I believe that God has a reason for this.

  62. I wanted to show a particular video that I saw

  63. on the social media, and I wanted to use it

  64. to pass the message across this morning. But somehow I'm

  65. not getting the kind of output that is expected from

  66. our projector. The projector is weak and we need to

  67. do something about it. That's why it's not very clear.

  68. But then I believe that the message can still come

  69. the way God wants to deliver it this morning. God's

  70. design for courtship and marriage. God's design for courtship a marriage.

  71. What exactly is the import of courtship and marriage. Marriage

  72. is a foundational institution established by God from the beginning

  73. of creation. So in the next few minutes, I just

  74. want to remind us what the Bible says about marriage

  75. and what is the place of courtship. Many societies today

  76. redefine marriage, so you have a lot of definition of marriage,

  77. and part of those definitions is man and man, woman

  78. and woman, man and dog, chicken and woman. Those are

  79. the various definitions that this our society is saying about marriage,

  80. and all of this based on personal and cultural preferences.

  81. But as Christians, we must return to God's original bloke blueprints.

  82. What is God's original design for marriage and for relationships,

  83. the way of marriage, the way a marriage begins, that

  84. is through courtship and preparation. The way your marriage begins,

  85. we show greatly how it is going to be, so

  86. it will greatly impact the success of that marriage. And

  87. that's why I'm picking courtship and marriage. We just speak

  88. about marriage alone, or we could speak about courtship, but

  89. I know that on Friday, if I'm not mistaken, some

  90. destinies were thrashed because of the world's definition of love,

  91. and there was celebration of Valentine. That is not my

  92. focus for today, but because our understanding of all of

  93. this has been darkened by the influence of evil, we

  94. are forsaken the way that God actually intends marriage to be.

  95. And so in our understanding today, what we want to

  96. seek is to understand marriage as God designed it from

  97. the beginning. We want to highlight the principles of the

  98. Bible for godly courtship, what exactly is expected of us

  99. as Christians in courtship before it ends in marriage. And

  100. we want to guide ourselves. We want to guide singles,

  101. We want to guide those who are relationships. We want

  102. to guide those who are married couples in honoring God

  103. in their love life. That is what we want to

  104. call our attention to. And I pray for God's divine

  105. understanding this morning in the name of Jesus. Let's begin

  106. from God's design for courtship. What exactly as God for courtship?

  107. What is courtship? What is God exactly is courtship? Courtship

  108. is a period of getting to know each other with

  109. the intention of marriage, and it is conducted in a

  110. way that honors God. So courtship it is a period

  111. of getting to know each other, a man and a woman,

  112. a young lady and a young man who are preparing

  113. for marriage. So courtship is that period when they get

  114. to know themselves with the intention of getting married sometimes

  115. and it is under the leadership of God, who has

  116. created marriage. Now, let me give us differences between what

  117. is called dating and courtship. There are two different things,

  118. all right, There are two different things. There's courtship and

  119. there is dating word lyd dating. Of course, normally dating

  120. you just go out and then you know, what do

  121. you do at dating? Young guys? Because a lot of

  122. dating was done on Friday, and from dating, some destinies

  123. were scattered. By the way, that reminds me, there was

  124. a special program that was organized by the youth fellowship

  125. of this church. Let me briefly talk about that. Where's

  126. the youth president. Where's he isn't the children class? Okay?

  127. Youth vice president, she's not around around? No? Okay, all right.

  128. Let me appreciate the Youth Fellowship of the church for

  129. taking initiative to do that. Now, among all the youths

  130. in this church, how many of us who were present

  131. at that meeting? Yes? One? Two? Who else? H? That's great?

  132. That is a mumis h I want to speak with you.

  133. That is ammise when you say pastor is not involving youth.

  134. I have challenged them do something that would benefit your lives,

  135. and part of it was that program they did on Friday. Now,

  136. we have plenty of youth in this church. I was

  137. there on that platform, and on that platform we had

  138. people who are not members of this church on that platform,

  139. But those who actually organize the program, they were not

  140. there on that platform. You see that we're having a

  141. long way to go? Is that also? But which arlenge parents?

  142. It's not completely your faults. But which arlenge you? Let

  143. us wake up so that we don't pray. That program

  144. was a beautiful one. Was it recorded, No, you shouldn't

  145. even be recorded, but you please, let's wake up, let's

  146. wake up, wake up. It was one of us, and

  147. it was good that we had such a program. Let's

  148. go back to God's design for courtship. What lid dating

  149. focused on emotions, love at first sights. That was what

  150. we discussed our last last December as younger and exceptional

  151. love at first sights. So what lid dating calls from

  152. emotions and personal desires and awful loss accountability. That's what

  153. happens in dating. Dating is about deception. What lidda thing

  154. is about how the girl can can can can can

  155. bring down the boy, and how the boy can bring

  156. down the girl. But biblical curt sheep, biblical court sheep

  157. is intentional. It is prayerful and involves guidance from God

  158. and godly mentors. Please notice what I've said, Biblical court

  159. sheep and the course sheep that Lord has designed. We

  160. have said it is a period of getting to know

  161. each other. You see, part of the problems we have

  162. with marriage today begins at courtship level, when that woman,

  163. when that man is going to be an animal in

  164. that relationship, you are going to know it right from courtship.

  165. And that's why it's important that we open our eyes.

  166. In biblical courtship, it is something that is intense, It

  167. is intentional, It is prayerful for those of us who

  168. went through courtship and who are still doing it now

  169. in your courtship. Are you praying in your courtship? You know,

  170. sometimes when we get to courtship, we are so full

  171. of this emotion. And that's the difference. Once emotion is

  172. beginning to setting in your courtship level, it has become

  173. a worldly dating. It is no longer God's kind of

  174. court sheep and that's why many young ladies cannot confront

  175. the guys and ask questions, where are you taking me to?

  176. What is it about our future? And a pretty many

  177. of our young ladies they are so sheepish and they

  178. just go, it's okay, and it's okay, I love him,

  179. I love her, and all of those things cut it off.

  180. You must be intentional, you must be prayerful, and such

  181. costship involves guidance from God and godly mentors. What are

  182. the principles in the world of God for courtship? Number

  183. one is sik God's guidance Provabs Chapter three, five and

  184. six and Some thirty seven, Verse twenty three. Seek God's

  185. guidance first. Entering a relationship should be a prayerful decision.

  186. Entering a relationship should be a prayerful decision. Trust in

  187. the Lord with all your heart, Lean not on your

  188. own understanding in all your ways. Acknowledge Him and it

  189. will make your past strength and train. A relationship should

  190. be a prayerful decision. Seek God's will before emotion takes over. Listen,

  191. Emotion will not help you in marriage. You. Marriage is

  192. at the level of reality. It is at the level

  193. of reality, and it is good that we understand what

  194. God has laid it down for us. You must seek

  195. God's will before emotion we take over you when somebody

  196. says I love you, just like many of us may

  197. have received I Love your message on Friday. You're the

  198. core croach in my cupboard for every time I sleep

  199. and I dream, it's all about you. Oh that is emotion,

  200. my brother and sister. That is emotion. It is from

  201. the pit of hell. Number two principle from the world

  202. of God is seen in FoST Corinthians, chapter thirteen, four

  203. to seven. Build on friendship and character, not just attraction.

  204. That's second principle of courtship. Build on friendship and character,

  205. not just attraction. Many of us just go to one

  206. party and from the party because he just cites that person,

  207. and finally you say you're love with that person. There's

  208. no friendship. You have not created any relationship with that person.

  209. Where do you think that is going to hand you?

  210. Castship must be about character. What is the character of

  211. that fellow, because that is going to determine what the

  212. end result is going to be. In our local palance.

  213. It is often said that the way is Sunday will

  214. look like what happens now from Saturday, get with they

  215. take no one. Is also character friendship not just attraction. Yes,

  216. the guy may be beautiful, but does she have character?

  217. The guy may be handsome, but does the half character?

  218. That is principal number two. Genuine love is based on character,

  219. not emotional. It's this emotion that we make a man

  220. and a woman who are in courtship to open each

  221. other's skates and pint before marriage. It is emotion. It

  222. is not from God. God will never lead you in

  223. that direction. If a guy the girl is asking you

  224. for sex before you tie the notes, you run away

  225. from that relationship as that girl, as that boy is

  226. doing to you. By the time you are married, it's

  227. likely going to do it again unless the spirit of

  228. the Lord takes come true. Look for spiritual and emotional compatibility.

  229. Build on friendship and corame, not just attraction. Number three

  230. principle is this. Maintain purity and holiness. First Thessalonius, Chapter four,

  231. verse three to four, First Corinthians six eighteen to twenty.

  232. First Thessalonians four, three to four, First Corinthians six eighteen

  233. to twenty. Maintain purity and holiness. Avoid sexual immorality and temptation.

  234. Don't try it, you don't just do it, take it away.

  235. That is the principle of the world of God. Set

  236. godly boundaries. Avoid unnecessary alone time. Don't just be alone together. Eh,

  237. you know this is our environment. Yeah, I pray that

  238. God will help us. We used to having lights by

  239. this angle of the church, and that used to help

  240. us at night. But somehow when they I think those

  241. people maybe they prayed and then they pulled that light

  242. down and the thing scattered, but will replace it in

  243. Jesus' name. You see a lot of things happening at night. Eh.

  244. Some people will come and sit down here, as they say,

  245. life wasting away. They just sit down and be robbing

  246. themselves and be doing like this. I say, I just

  247. be to you. I'm sure that one of these days

  248. this same church, around the church that you are doing

  249. all this motion, you'll come back and say, pastor, I

  250. want to see you. I need you to pray for me.

  251. I made the Lord open my eyes to say everything

  252. that you are doing now so that we tell you

  253. you need to go back and repent. Somebody SA By

  254. the time they see you working like this, they will

  255. start moving. They'll start moving to this corner because this

  256. other corner is darker than this other corner. People of God,

  257. avoid sexual immorality, avoid temptation, set godly boundries, avoid unnecessary

  258. alone time, and keep your conversation pere at courtship. It's

  259. not the time to be watching pornography, not at all.

  260. By the way, if you're involved in watching pornography, what

  261. you're just successfully doing is that you are depositing from

  262. evil and demonic spirit inside of you. And it's going

  263. to backfile. It's just for a time. Number four principle

  264. is im provabs Chapter eleven, verse fourteen. Be transparent and accountable.

  265. Perhaps eleven fourteen. Be transparent and accountable. Involve spiritual mentors,

  266. Involve pastors, Involve parents in your courtship. Don't just bring

  267. the guy alone into the house. That's not what we're saying.

  268. That's not what we're saying. Don't just bring the guy

  269. alone into the house. What are you discussing. Be transparent,

  270. be accountable. Some of us we go under the tree

  271. and be making call because you don't want people to

  272. hear what you're saying. It's because you're not saying what

  273. is right. I was once in a relationship, you know,

  274. back in the days of extra cool. How many of

  275. us witness extra cool empty end? It was a live waster.

  276. It wasted a number of lives. I was in school

  277. and I've spoken to the young lady that I love

  278. you and I want to marry you. Six months down

  279. the line, the young lady didn't give me yes or no.

  280. But I heard at the back of my mind that

  281. the person that I've been praying, I said, the person

  282. that I will speak to the answer will come almost immediately.

  283. So I was waiting for that. So after one month

  284. I didn't get anything. I say, well, this one is

  285. not my way. But I remember that day I was

  286. coming from Uba in school and I just saw the

  287. text message concerning our discussion. I think we should go together.

  288. My heart started bitty. I say, I know this one

  289. is the wrong one. I say, okay. Then I discovered

  290. that during the day it's not the time for anything,

  291. but at night she will call me excuse me, I

  292. have work. I'm going to go to class the following day.

  293. Then I'll start sleeping in class. I say, ah, this

  294. woman is going to kill my destiny. I told you woman,

  295. I said, see, this extra cool thing is going to

  296. kill me. I can't continue with it. After all this story,

  297. She's not my wife today and I thank God. Avoid sixty.

  298. Godly relationship thrive in the light, not in darkness. Avoid secrecy.

  299. You cannot build a godly relationship in the secret. Let

  300. it be made open. Number five principle is this in

  301. Second Corinthians, chapter six, verse fourteen. Do not be unequally

  302. yoked with unbeliever Marrie within the faith. Do we get

  303. what I said? Can we say together marry within the faith.

  304. Let's say it together, all right, marry within the free.

  305. A Christian should not marry and umbe what do I say?

  306. Umber is unbeliever? Don't marry and Umber You're going to

  307. destroy yourself. And Ah is a nonbeliever. You know. The

  308. other time we have defined what Christian marriage is about. Right.

  309. Christian marriage is a marriage between two Christians, not two churchgoers.

  310. Do we understand that you are in church today? Does

  311. not be you're a Christian? Yes or no? All right?

  312. If you're just the type that the cross is yet

  313. and you're just para bulleting around the cross like this,

  314. you're not yet a Christian until you have and encounter

  315. with the Cross of Jesus. So a Christian marriage is

  316. a marriage between two believers, two people who are born again.

  317. If you're in a courtship with someone that doesn't come

  318. to church and he doesn't go anywhere else, that's a

  319. red flag. And that was what we discuss right on Friday.

  320. It was a red flag in relationships. That's a red flag.

  321. Come to church, come to church, and the person does

  322. not show up in churche? What church does he attend?

  323. He doesn't even know the name of his church and

  324. all of those kind of thing. Yet are you a Christian?

  325. Of course I'm a Christian. I'm not saying that because

  326. you go to church makes you a Christian, all right,

  327. But what is your encounter with the Lord. That's what

  328. we're talking about. A Christian should not marry a nonbeliever.

  329. Spiritual unity is critical for a godly marriage. It's a

  330. preparation for the future. I made the Lord help us

  331. in Jesus' name. Let's quickly look at the biblical foundation

  332. for marriage. So we have talked about courtship now, so

  333. that's preparation. So before you get into marriage, all those

  334. things are very important. What are the things that we

  335. have said. Number one, seek God's guidance first. Number two.

  336. Build on friendship and character, not just attraction. Number three,

  337. maintain purity and holiness. Number four, be transparent and accountable.

  338. Number five Marry within the faith. Marry within the faith.

  339. Marry within the faith, please, I beg you. From that

  340. text Genesis to eighteen twenty one to twenty four, we

  341. see biblical foundation of marriage. Number one. From that place

  342. in verse eighteen, the Bible tells us that marriage is

  343. God's idea. That's number one thing. Have that at the

  344. back of your mind. It is not your creation. One

  345. day you feel like having a woman in your house

  346. as a man, or you feel like you should go

  347. and attach yourself with a man. It is not your idea.

  348. It is God's idea. So if you do it, and

  349. that is where the world gets is wrong. And that's

  350. why there are many diverces today because we have gotten

  351. it wrong. From the beginning. The Bible says in that

  352. verse eighteen of Genesis chapter two, it is not good

  353. for the man to be alone, and it is not

  354. good for the woman to be alone. There was a reason.

  355. It is God that determines that time that you should

  356. not be alone, and so there's sniff for you to

  357. come together. God designed marriage to solve the problem of

  358. loneliness and provide companionship. Marriage is a divine institution, not

  359. human invension. We must have that at the back of

  360. our mind. Let's see what Matthew chapter nineteen says. Matthew

  361. Chapter nineteen four and six four to six. Matthew nineteen

  362. four to six, see what the Bible says. Haven't you

  363. read the scriptures? Jesus replied, They record that, they record

  364. that from the beginning, God made them male and female

  365. verse five, and it said, this explains why a man

  366. leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife.

  367. And the two are united into one, since they are

  368. no longer two but one. Let no one separate them,

  369. for God has joined them together. That's the idea of marriage.

  370. It is God that is joining the two people together.

  371. And that is why the Christian marriage. The only third

  372. party in the Christian marriage is God himself and is

  373. if not even a third party now, but is the

  374. originator of that entire coming together. Number two principle. You

  375. see in verse twenty four. Marriage is a covenant relationship,

  376. and that you will see in what the Bible says

  377. in verse twenty four. He says they will leave, and

  378. then they will cleave, and then they will become world flesh.

  379. Is a life long commitment, as far as the Bible

  380. is concerned. Once you enter into marria, you don't enter

  381. with that too. There is no run in a way.

  382. But this man is beating me. This man is anyway.

  383. We'll talk about that next week. By the grace of God,

  384. we'll talk about that in detail. But that's the original plan.

  385. Is that a man and a woman will come together.

  386. And that's why you see, even for those of us

  387. who have gotten it wrong, they still a way out.

  388. And the way out is to surrender to Jesus and

  389. let Jesus take over that relationship, and you'll begin to

  390. see the sweetness. Marriage is supposed to be sweet. But

  391. when you are managing a marriage, you need to check

  392. your foundation. That's why we began with courtship. You need

  393. to check your foundation. Where's it coming from. Marriage is

  394. a covenant, not just a contract. I will leave that there.

  395. If you want to hear details of that, we'll do

  396. it next time, by the grace of God. That's second part.

  397. So marriage is a covenant, is not just a contract.

  398. We're going to look at the difference between call a

  399. contract and a covenant. So how is marriage a covenant

  400. and not just a contract? Number three principles in the

  401. Bible is the roles of Osborne and wife, as declared

  402. to Ross in Exhisitions Chapter five twenty two and twenty

  403. two to thirty three. For the osband, the Bible says

  404. gave the instruction to Osband to call or Amid to

  405. love their wives as Christ loves the church, Verse twenty

  406. five of Ephesians five. The wives in verses twenty two

  407. and twenty four, they have the responsibility to respect and

  408. submit to their husband. And then finally there is a

  409. submission and love that takes place to create a healthy

  410. and God honoring marriage. It is not just the woman

  411. alone that should submit and respect the man, but the

  412. Bible says that it's a mutual thing. The husband also

  413. need to respect the wife. Why exactly did God create marriage?

  414. Why exactly did God create marriage? Number one is for

  415. companionship and love. You see it in Genesis chapter two,

  416. verse eighteen. For companionship and love. God created if because

  417. Adam needed companionship. God said, it is not good for

  418. demand to be alone. So for companionship. A godly marriage

  419. is built on love, is built on friendship and shared purpose.

  420. That's Christian marriage. So purpose number one is for companionship

  421. and love. For those of us that are married, our

  422. ask us this morney, is that purpose being fulfilled? If

  423. that purpose is not being fulfilled, the purpose of companionship,

  424. the purpose of love in your home, there is need

  425. to revisit our foundation. Number two purpose is mutual help

  426. and support. Then that's what Ecclesiasts Chapter four nine to

  427. twelve episodes to understand that was the passage as used

  428. during brother I Brahim's wedding Ecclesiastis chapter four, nine to twelve.

  429. It is for help and support. May I have this

  430. question in your home? Is the woman supporting the man?

  431. Is the man supporting the woman? Or everybody is just

  432. going is my way? Marriage is a partnership where both

  433. spouses compliment each other. There were supposed to. They are

  434. supposed to compliment one another. A husband and a wife

  435. strengthen each other emotionally, spiritually, and physically. We are to

  436. help each other. Another purpose for marriage, number three purpose

  437. is for family and procreation Genesis one twenty eight, for

  438. family and procreation, giving bed having children. For as many

  439. of home looking up to Jesus for the gift of

  440. children made the Lord open those wombs in the name

  441. of Jesus Christ. Family and procreation. There's another purpose for marriage.

  442. So God commanded humanity to be fruitful and motive Genesis

  443. one twenty eight, to be fruitful and multiply. Marriage provides

  444. the foundation for raising godly children. But the question is

  445. this in your marriage? For those of us that a

  446. marriage are married. In your marriage, are we seeing godly

  447. children in your home. If there are no godly children,

  448. you are not fulfilling the purpose that God has created marriage,

  449. and that there is need for us to go back

  450. to the foundation. Another purpose is seen in EPI Chapter five,

  451. twenty five to thirty two that a home, a marriage

  452. is to be a reflection of Christ, and the church

  453. is about the relationship between g and the Church. So

  454. marriage is a symbol of Christ's relationship with the Church.

  455. If it is not so, then there is need for

  456. us to revisit the foundation. Husbands must lead with sacrificial love.

  457. Wives must respond with respect and submission, and that's how

  458. the relationship between Jesus and the Church is. Number five

  459. purpose is that marriage should provide sexual affection. He Brews

  460. thirteen four that sexual union, the sexual union is holy

  461. and pure only within marriage. Any sexual union that is

  462. outside of marriage is against God, and God is against

  463. such relationship. Forget what the world is telling you, perhaps

  464. five fifteen to twenty that I read for the call

  465. to worship. This money man should find fulfillments for his

  466. desire on lay in his love for wife. That's why

  467. that Bible person says, drink from your own well Proverabs

  468. chapter five. Let's go back to that passage again, and

  469. let's quickly see something there. Proverbs chapter five and verse fifteen.

  470. He says, drink water from your own way. Maron, let's

  471. not give very deep description this money five for fill

  472. mens in your wife, not in anyone else. First Conthians

  473. chapter seven two to five, eight a nine, The Bible

  474. says husband and a wife should express sexual affection, not

  475. tempting this spouse by defrauding them. Satisfying this desire is

  476. one legitimate, legitimate reason for getting married a God's design.

  477. Once you are married to that man, once you are

  478. married to that woman, you are locked together. I said.

  479. That's why way they say only wed look is wed local.

  480. You are locked. Above all of these is that the

  481. ultimate goal of marriage is to help one another to

  482. save God. Listen, is your wife helping you to save God?

  483. Are you helping your husband to save God? Are you

  484. helping your wife to save God? If you're not doing that,

  485. you're not fulfilling that purpose. When we understand the propertiesons

  486. from marriage, we also know why it is a mistake

  487. to marry for other reasons. There are other reasons why

  488. people get married, but don't marry for any of these

  489. other reasons. Let me just tell you some of them.

  490. Some people marry because they want to attend wealth, because

  491. they want influence, because they want popularity, because they want

  492. social status, they want to be known in the community.

  493. That's why some people marry. Oh that I want to

  494. marry somebody that is rich. Okay, that's where it starts from.

  495. Another reason is to escape serious problems in one's previous

  496. own life. Because your parents are too weakened abby, because

  497. your mother is always shouting on you, then you want

  498. to go and get married. You're in trouble. That that's

  499. why you have refused to fight with your mummy. And

  500. understand the reason why your mother is shouting at you.

  501. You will come to fight it in marriage. Some people

  502. also get married. All my friends are getting married. Why

  503. A mean? Why not you? Are you? Your friends? Are you? Everybody?

  504. You are their destiny to pursue. You are the life

  505. of your own. Don't marry because all your friends are

  506. getting married, because you are going to get into error,

  507. serious error that you will not be able to release

  508. yourself from. Some people get married to feel that somebody

  509. wants us. Eh. I was listening to the story of

  510. one young lady in because of the Week, and the

  511. young lady said that because of our background, the father

  512. never loved the mother was not there because it's like

  513. the mother had some health challenges, some kind of psychological challenges,

  514. and so somehow she was left all alone to struggle

  515. through life. All of a suddenly one guy just came

  516. say I love you, and she just fell for it.

  517. Disaster in school. In school, sometimes they will be in

  518. the cafeteria and they would just be eating and the

  519. lady will just miss young and the guy will look

  520. at her and just give her courser and beat her

  521. like that to you. Ho s tele in the public

  522. few of people, and then you're sis saying that I

  523. love him, I do this one. Are you mad? Are

  524. you crazy? Somebody is doing like this to you? Eh?

  525. At courtship level, you never marry her and they treat

  526. you like this. What do you think is going to

  527. happen when you get into that marriage? He would destroy

  528. your life. One day we just come and gather and

  529. say hey, farewell, goodbye. May that not be your case?

  530. In Jesus name, some people are felt or loved, They

  531. felt rejected, they felt inferior. Ah their lives, so they

  532. just want to feel like somebody wants them, and then

  533. they get married and then you become like a rag

  534. in that house and the man does not have regard

  535. for you. It is both sizo. I also listening to

  536. one conversation in the course of the week, and they

  537. were saying that this woman we beat the husband blue black.

  538. You know, when a woman will beat a man and

  539. the man will not be able to talk. And they

  540. went to the pastor and even in the presence of

  541. the pastor, and the way they were talking as the

  542. pastor was you know, encouraged and just you know, trying

  543. to advise them and all of those things. It's like

  544. the way the woman was even looking. The woman was

  545. looking as if you will come a meet me at two.

  546. You know, most times we think it's only men that

  547. do that. There are women that we finished their husband

  548. and the man will not be able to talk. May

  549. the Lord deliver us in Jesus name beginning time. Once

  550. the foundation is wrong, you cannot get it right. Some

  551. people also get married because we are on the rebound.

  552. Because I just broke a relationship. The fact that you

  553. broke that relationship is simply because God wants to channel

  554. your life right. Reconnect back to your maker and let

  555. him order your steps. Some people get married because we

  556. want someone to provide for us or to keep the

  557. house for us. Eh, so that there's going to be mad,

  558. that's going to be giving you money. Sometimes some people

  559. get married because our family or friends think we make

  560. a good couple. You people are fine together. You're looking ah, wow,

  561. you are together. You can make good. Look at this

  562. love bird, and then years ago, God bless me. I

  563. pity your life. I pity your life. Marriage is not

  564. for your love birds. It's not for children. Marriage is

  565. not for boys and girls. Therefore, shan a man. If

  566. you're not a man, you can get into that. Let's

  567. look at some challenges in courtship and marriage. Number one

  568. is poor communication. Lack of open and honest communication leads

  569. to misunderstanding. And once there's misunderstanding and it's not resolved,

  570. it can begin to lead to what we're going to

  571. discuss next Sunday. Couples develop the habits of active listening

  572. and discussing matters biblically. You see, that's why Bible is

  573. very important in the room for every marriage, for every marriage,

  574. as far as Schilo. Baptist Church is concerned. Once you

  575. have gotten married, we want to present you byble. We

  576. know you are Bible, but what we are telling you

  577. is that go to read by bue go a read Bible.

  578. That's the only way you can succeed and excelt in

  579. your relationship. Number two challenge is the wrong foundation. If

  580. you enter a relationship because of lost, because of money,

  581. because of pressure, because of this is word. They want

  582. me to go get married. My dad is here, monsieur

  583. shall go and get married, make a cukuma get married.

  584. You're in trouble and that's what leads to failure. Wrong foundations.

  585. Courtship must be based on God's principles and clear intentions.

  586. Number three challenge is conflicts and disagreements. You know when

  587. there's fights in any relationship, whether you like it or not,

  588. listen because both of us we are coming from different backgrounds.

  589. Even where you are reading the Bible twenty four to seven,

  590. there will be a time you are going to have misunderstanding.

  591. Conflicts are bound to happen in marriage, but out there

  592. are and good it's what matters. And if Christ is

  593. not a lord of that marriage, you will misandle it

  594. apply biblical principles of patience, of humility, and forgiveness in

  595. your home and you will see reviver taking place. Another

  596. challenge is external influence family and culture. Yes, family is important,

  597. but don't let your family take over your relationship. You

  598. will give account to God concerning your husband, concerning your wife,

  599. not concerning your family. Don't let family members, your excited

  600. family members, destroy your own. A man must take decision.

  601. For the little opportunities have had in the ministry to

  602. advise people in marriage. I always tell them I can

  603. make the choice for you. But you see this thing

  604. you're about to do. If you considered this, that's why

  605. you say. I will plead with every one of us

  606. planning to get married, please go for Christian primary to counseling. Please,

  607. I beg of you. It's important. It's not as if

  608. it's going to solve every problem, but it's going to

  609. open your eyes to a lot of things. The marriage

  610. cancelor can help you see what you cannot see. Mentors

  611. can hep you see what you have not been seeing

  612. about the lady, about the man. But at the end

  613. of it, if I advise you and he said, no,

  614. this is where I'm going to go, I'll just say,

  615. may the Lord be with you and see you through

  616. tea with me again. So when struggle starts, you'll not

  617. be able to tell me. Obviously you will not be

  618. able to see it, because these are things that people

  619. cannot say. Can we take some guides as we round

  620. off this today? What are the things that we must

  621. do for godly courtship and marriage? For singles who are

  622. preparing for marriage. Word of advice for us, focus on

  623. personal growth, personal spiritual growth before you seek a relationship.

  624. Some of us we never grow finish, we won't go hard.

  625. Join us. Please focus on personal spirit to our growth

  626. before seeking a relationship. Number two, develop a strong relationship

  627. with God through prayer, Bible study. Have a relationship with

  628. God before you enter any relationship. And avoid desperation. Avoid desperation.

  629. All my mates are getting married, I'm not married, and

  630. you are. You're tormenting yourself. Why not just relax about

  631. for those of us who are in courtship. For those

  632. who are in courtship, be intentional, difine, define the purpose

  633. of your relationship early. I've heard some ladies that have

  634. been in a relationship the guy is thinking that you

  635. know this is a serious relationship. But he never talk.

  636. But you get to you do miss mission. You know

  637. know this thing and insteade of you to open your

  638. mouth and talk, you know, talk, define it. Why are

  639. you together? Set clear boundaries to maintain purity. Don't go

  640. and sleep in the boy's house. It is wrong. If

  641. you have done it, made the Lord forgive you. Repent,

  642. don't do it again. Seek godly mentorship for spiritually or

  643. spiritually matured people. Where you need help, Let somebody help

  644. you aw about. For those of us that are married.

  645. In your marriage, let God be number one. Let your

  646. spouse be number two. Then your family number three. Matthew

  647. six thirty three, but six for us the Kingdom of God.

  648. Lets God be number one. Let your spouse be number two.

  649. Let every other member of the family be number three.

  650. At the beginning, husband and wife are like this. Once

  651. a child begins to come, you see husband, you see

  652. a wife, and now you see children in between them.

  653. Then by the time the children get married. Over the years,

  654. because there are longer years that you have stayed together

  655. like this, it will not be difficult for you to

  656. be like this. I pray God will help you and

  657. help everyone of us in Jesus name. Maintain consistent prayer,

  658. Bible study and worship together as a family. Have a

  659. prayer devotion in your family. It is important. That's what

  660. is going to help your home to grow. Will be

  661. conflicts if it comes, what do you do? Resolved them

  662. quickly in the Bible way? I May the Lord help

  663. us in jesusin people of God. God's design for marriage

  664. and courtship is clear and intentional. A godly marriage is

  665. built on the principles of the world of God, on

  666. principle of commitments, on the principle of mutual love. Young

  667. people should approach relationship prayer fully and wisely. The goal

  668. is to have Christ centered marriages that we glorify God.

  669. If your marriage is not glorifying God, there is a

  670. chance to put that marriage in the right perspective today.

  671. If you're preparing to get married and the courtship or

  672. the relationship that you are in so far doesn't seem

  673. to bring glory to God, you can write all of

  674. that today. And that is the essence of this message.

  675. What are you going to do about it? May the

  676. Lord help us in the martin name of Jesus Christ.

  677. Shall we pray together. Can you ask the Lord this

  678. morning to have messy on your relationship when we are

  679. another You have gotten it wrong, but you need a savior,

  680. like a shepherd that can lead us. There's no friend

  681. like the lordly Jesus. Can you ask Jesus to come

  682. into your relationship, into your marriage, into your home, into

  683. your courtship and for those of us that's just preparing.

  684. You're not engaged at all. Can you ask the Lord

  685. to direct you so that you will not make mistakes,

  686. so that you will not fall into error. Confess to

  687. God that you cannot help yourself. In Jesus name, we pray,

  688. I like us to take that him, that Him of prayer,

  689. save your like a shepherd. Leaders will remain seated as
