  1. Well, we're spending morning and evening in Luke's Gospel. We don't normally do that, but I've really, really enjoyed it actually.

  2. ! I wonder whether we should do it more often. Kind of wallow in the book of the Bible. And that's what we're going to do. It's my last Sunday before holiday next week.

  3. And we should go to Luke 23 to 25. Verse 25, I think.

  4. I read a letter in this past week that was written by a colonel in the German army who at the age of 42, having been falsely accused of taking part in an attempt to assassinate Adolf Hitler, he was executed, put to death in October 1944.

  5. His name, Alexis Van Renn. And a few minutes before his execution, by hanging, he penned these words to his wife.

  6. My dearest beloved, in a moment, I shall be going home to our Lord in complete calm and in the certainty of salvation.

  7. These words remind us, don't they, of another man, a more famous man, who was executed the next year, in 1945.

  8. He was hanged in Flossenburg. And the camp doctor, who had witnessed many, many executions, gave this testimony. The man's name was Deidre Bonhoeffer.

  9. The doctor said this, I was most deeply moved by the way this lovable man prayed, so devout and so certain that God has heard his prayer.

  10. At the place of execution, he again said a short prayer and then climbed the steps to the gallows, brave and composed.

  11. In the almost 50 years I worked as a doctor, I have hardly seen a man die so entirely submissive to the will of God.

  12. And so my question is this, what happened to the Lord Jesus in the garden of Gethsemane?

  13. What happened to the Lord Jesus there? Because there's no tranquility there, is there?

  14. There's no calmness of spirit.

  15. His experience is that of anxiety, it is that perspiration falls onto the ground in death's family, like great drops of blood hitting the ground.

  16. Luke tells us, and he is the most discreet of all the Gospel writers, he describes the event.

  17. And he tells us that our Lord Jesus was in agony as he faced his death.

  18. Mark tells us that he was in such a state of kind of mental exhaustion, he felt such pressure on the eve of his crucifixion,

  19. that the only language he would use, which we would use, is to describe somebody so shocked by what he or short saw,

  20. that they're driven to total distraction.

  21. And yet the strange thing is that what this Saviour experienced before his death in the garden of Gethsemane,

  22. explains why those wonderful Christian believers have faced their death in such peace and even anticipation, isn't it?

  23. And even joy.

  24. It is this unique Gethsemane that we look at tonight that makes it possible for me and for you to find God's grace and God's peace

  25. in the midst of all the world has to throw at us.

  26. And that is the reason why millions of Christians have died peacefully in the face of execution for their faith.

  27. The only possible explanation for that is the Lord Jesus Christ and Gethsemane.

  28. And this is the beginning of what Jesus is about to experience in the course of these next few hours.

  29. And I think it's important for us to realise that what Luke is doing is Luke is taking us to the very edge,

  30. to the very edge of the most sacred day in history in the whole universe.

  31. It's the day that makes Christian believers, it makes it possible for Christian believers to die sinning

  32. because our Saviour died crying.

  33. Do you remember how the writer of the Hebrews says, the writer of the Hebrews says

  34. that with loud crying and tears Jesus prayed that his Father would save him from death.

  35. Such is the pressure on the Lord Jesus here in the Garden of Gethsemane

  36. that the pressure itself is in danger of killing him.

  37. And I want to try and explore, and yet tonight even the greatest mind amongst us can only go so far.

  38. I want us to think about this passage which takes us to the wonder of the Gospel

  39. and to the heart of what we hold so dear, our salvation.

  40. And it helps us to understand why it was Martin Luther said

  41. that the reason Christians no longer have fear of death

  42. is because no man feared death like this man.

  43. And Luke takes us to the heart of it.

  44. Instead it happens chronologically and geographically.

  45. And he's actually prepared us, hasn't he?

  46. He's been preparing virtually all the way through his Gospel.

  47. In chapter 2 he emphasised the absolute reality of the humanity of our Lord Jesus.

  48. That he grew in stature.

  49. And he grew more and more facing the task that his Father placed before him.

  50. So he not only increased in wisdom,

  51. and in the way he so wisely used God's Word in so many different circumstances,

  52. especially in temptation, but he grew in favour with men.

  53. Not only with man, but with God also.

  54. And we must never lose sight that there's a sense in which in these verses

  55. Jesus enters a kind of no man's land.

  56. Between heaven and earth.

  57. That'll be seen, won't it, in that really mysterious cry on the cross,

  58. my God, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

  59. There was, there was never a day, was there?

  60. There was never a day in his life when his Father loved him more than this day.

  61. And that is where this great paradox and mystery lies.

  62. It lies at the very heart of the Gospel of God's grace.

  63. It says that his Son was obedient to the Father's will.

  64. And was brought to a place of awful isolation.

  65. And dereliction.

  66. On the cross of Calvary.

  67. Where he seems to have lost all sense of his Father's favour on him.

  68. Crying out, my God, my God, why have you forsaken me?

  69. That was the hour.

  70. and because of that amazing obedience

  71. his father must have sung, his father must have been able to sing that song

  72. if ever I loved you, my Jesus is now

  73. there seems to be three stages, as there nearly always is

  74. that I want us to focus on tonight

  75. and the first is that Luke is drawing our attention to the Lord Jesus' isolation

  76. his isolation from his disciples and from all humanity

  77. his isolation from the disciples and all humanity

  78. he began to prepare us for that in chapter 7 and 9

  79. you've got the transfiguration and that discussion

  80. between Jesus and Moses and Elijah

  81. and they discuss at the end of chapter 9 what is the exodus that Jesus is about to accomplish

  82. and the disciples, those three, they would have got a glimpse of what was about to happen

  83. in that discussion

  84. because the exodus began, didn't it, how did it begin?

  85. the exodus began with a terrible night of darkness and death and judgment

  86. and we need to notice that it is within a few verses of that turning point, isn't it?

  87. he speaks about the transfiguration of his exodus

  88. that you get to chapter 9 where Jesus steadfastly sets his face to go to Jerusalem

  89. and you get a picture of a group of disciples

  90. who have been around Jesus

  91. but now they begin to follow Jesus at a distance

  92. they are slightly mystified

  93. at this determination of his to go to Jerusalem

  94. they don't understand it

  95. and in a sense there is distance

  96. again and again

  97. he explains what he's doing

  98. and again and again they don't get it

  99. and now as he goes to the garden of Gethsemane

  100. it's interesting how the story is set up

  101. so look at verse 39

  102. and he came out and went

  103. as was his custom to the Mount of Olives

  104. and the disciples followed him

  105. they are not around him

  106. they are following him

  107. and there is it where you would see

  108. if there was a movie

  109. there's another scene, isn't it?

  110. in the city of Jerusalem

  111. there's another man

  112. there's another force

  113. there's another power

  114. there's the dark side of Judas

  115. and he is leading another group of men

  116. but they have swords

  117. and they have clubs

  118. and Jesus says to them

  119. this is your hour

  120. and the hour is the hour of the power of darkness

  121. and Jesus is going to be isolated

  122. from those he counts near and dear

  123. and isolated

  124. from those who came to arrest him

  125. and it's really clear

  126. the ESV helps us here

  127. look at the titles that follow

  128. Betrayal and Arrest of Jesus

  129. denial of Jesus

  130. Jesus is mocked

  131. Jesus before the council

  132. Jesus before Pilate

  133. Jesus before Herod

  134. Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified

  135. the crucifixion

  136. the death of Jesus

  137. Jesus is buried

  138. and so more and more

  139. as you walk through these passages

  140. you see that Jesus

  141. is going into a sphere

  142. which no one can enter and follow him

  143. no one can stand before him

  144. beside him at the cross

  145. in chapter 23 verse 48

  146. there it is isn't it

  147. there are crowds

  148. that have assembled

  149. but all his acquaintances

  150. and the women

  151. that are followed

  152. 23 verse 48

  153. from Galilee

  154. they stood at a distance

  155. watching these things

  156. none of the ransomed knew

  157. how deep were the waters crossed

  158. or how dark was the night

  159. that the Lord passed through

  160. ere he found the sheep

  161. that was lost

  162. there's an isolation

  163. of Jesus

  164. at the heart of the gospel

  165. he goes

  166. where none other can go

  167. and where he goes

  168. is not only isolation

  169. but Luke makes it

  170. vividly clear

  171. the way that he tells this story

  172. that Jesus' isolation

  173. had to do with Jesus' substitution

  174. Jesus' isolation

  175. and secondly

  176. Jesus' substitution

  177. substitution

  178. and I think

  179. we never grasp

  180. the gospel

  181. you never grasp

  182. the gospel

  183. until you understand

  184. that the death

  185. he died

  186. was not his death

  187. but our death

  188. and Luke

  189. expresses that

  190. in very dramatic

  191. simplicity

  192. I wonder

  193. if you were making

  194. a film of this

  195. think about that

  196. if you were thinking

  197. about a film like this

  198. this is what I would do

  199. Jesus

  200. he moves from

  201. the upper room

  202. to the garden

  203. of Gethsemane

  204. and my camera

  205. would follow him

  206. there as he went

  207. and then it would

  208. move backwards

  209. to the upper room

  210. to the upper room

  211. where they had left

  212. and it would focus

  213. on that cup

  214. do you remember

  215. we saw it last week

  216. that cup

  217. that's sitting

  218. on the table

  219. the cup of blessing

  220. in the Passover meal

  221. that Jesus

  222. as he picked up

  223. that cup

  224. he said

  225. I will not drink

  226. of the fruit

  227. of this vine

  228. again

  229. until I drink

  230. it anew

  231. in my father's

  232. kingdom

  233. and then he gives

  234. that cup of blessing

  235. to his disciples

  236. and he says

  237. drink

  238. drink deeply

  239. of the cup

  240. of blessing

  241. it's a wonderful thing

  242. what can we give

  243. to the Lord

  244. for all his benefits

  245. towards us

  246. we will take

  247. the cup

  248. of salvation

  249. that is the cup

  250. of blessing

  251. through faith

  252. in Christ

  253. the blessings

  254. of grace

  255. and salvation

  256. and fellowship

  257. with the father

  258. and all these things

  259. he offers

  260. that family

  261. around the table

  262. and he says

  263. to his disciples

  264. drink deeply

  265. of this cup

  266. and then

  267. Achim

  268. would zoom

  269. back out

  270. to the garden

  271. of Gethsemane

  272. and it's a shadowy

  273. figure there

  274. isn't it

  275. as he kneels

  276. and he prays

  277. at a distance

  278. for his beloved

  279. disciples

  280. and the darkness

  281. is pierced

  282. by a prayer

  283. the prayer

  284. that you hear

  285. is father

  286. if it is possible

  287. let this cup

  288. pass from me

  289. and you know

  290. the bible

  291. makes it very clear

  292. what that cup

  293. is too

  294. there are many

  295. references to that

  296. cup in the old

  297. testament

  298. that is the

  299. terrible cup

  300. of judgment

  301. that will fall

  302. upon sinners

  303. it's fascinating

  304. go home

  305. and look

  306. at some of the

  307. passages

  308. and you notice

  309. so many things

  310. that they say

  311. that will happen

  312. to whoever drinks

  313. that cup

  314. of judgment

  315. are quite literally

  316. fulfilled

  317. in the experience

  318. of Jesus

  319. you will drink

  320. and be moved

  321. and be driven

  322. to destruction

  323. your glory

  324. will be turned

  325. into shame

  326. you will be

  327. demeaned

  328. and you will be

  329. mocked

  330. and you see

  331. what is happening

  332. here in this picture

  333. the Lord Jesus

  334. has given to his

  335. disciples

  336. the cup

  337. of salvation

  338. the cup

  339. of blessing

  340. and said

  341. drink this cup

  342. and drink it

  343. deeply

  344. but the only way

  345. that they can

  346. drink the cup

  347. of salvation

  348. and blessing

  349. is if he goes

  350. to the garden

  351. of Gethsemane

  352. and drinks

  353. this other cup

  354. because this

  355. isn't simply

  356. an experience

  357. of human

  358. isolation

  359. this is

  360. isn't it

  361. the saviour's

  362. commitment

  363. to an act

  364. of saving

  365. substitution

  366. and the

  367. whole Bible

  368. comes to

  369. its epicenter

  370. it's like

  371. those Old

  372. Testament pictures

  373. of atonement

  374. the sacrifice

  375. of two goats

  376. over which

  377. the priest

  378. would confess

  379. the sins

  380. of the people

  381. one was to

  382. be slain

  383. and the other

  384. was to be

  385. taken into

  386. a no man's

  387. land

  388. by the hand

  389. of a worthy

  390. man

  391. and then

  392. let loose

  393. and there

  394. in the wilderness

  395. he bore the

  396. sin and the guilt

  397. of the people

  398. and here is

  399. Jesus

  400. beginning to

  401. enter into

  402. the fulfilment

  403. of those two

  404. pictures

  405. he bears our

  406. sin

  407. and our guilt

  408. and he goes

  409. out into that

  410. awful wilderness

  411. that he is

  412. beginning to

  413. experience

  414. and within

  415. hours he will

  416. become the

  417. sacrifice for

  418. our sins

  419. it's precisely

  420. as Isaiah

  421. prophesied

  422. he would be

  423. led as a

  424. lamb to

  425. the slaughter

  426. and as a

  427. sheep before

  428. his shearers

  429. he would be

  430. done

  431. he would be

  432. wounded for

  433. our transgressions

  434. he would be

  435. bruised for

  436. our iniquities

  437. the chastisement

  438. that would bring

  439. us peace

  440. would be upon

  441. him

  442. with his stripes

  443. we will be

  444. healed

  445. it's the

  446. absolute heart

  447. of the gospel

  448. isn't it

  449. that he dies

  450. in order that

  451. we might live

  452. forever

  453. that he bears

  454. God's judgment

  455. in order that

  456. we might be

  457. free of it

  458. he goes

  459. into the

  460. darkness

  461. that you

  462. might come

  463. into the

  464. light

  465. he chases

  466. our guilt

  467. that we

  468. might

  469. experience

  470. his

  471. righteousness

  472. he takes

  473. our curse

  474. in order that

  475. we would

  476. know his

  477. blessing

  478. that's how

  479. the apostles

  480. understood what

  481. Jesus was

  482. doing

  483. God makes

  484. him to be

  485. sin for

  486. us

  487. him who

  488. knew no

  489. sin

  490. Paul says

  491. in order that

  492. this great

  493. exchange

  494. that we

  495. might become

  496. the righteousness

  497. of God

  498. Galatians 3

  499. 13

  500. God makes

  501. Jesus a

  502. curse

  503. in order that

  504. the blessing

  505. might come to

  506. us

  507. it is not

  508. only isolation

  509. it is isolation

  510. in the most

  511. radical sense

  512. in order that

  513. there might be

  514. substitution

  515. taking place

  516. of Jesus

  517. taking my

  518. place under

  519. God's

  520. judgment

  521. to bring me

  522. into God's

  523. amazing blessing

  524. there is a

  525. green hill

  526. far away

  527. outside a

  528. city wall

  529. where the

  530. dear Lord

  531. was crucified

  532. why was he

  533. crucified

  534. he died to

  535. save us all

  536. we may not

  537. know

  538. we cannot

  539. tell what

  540. pains he had

  541. to bear

  542. but we believe

  543. it was for

  544. us

  545. he hadn't

  546. suffered there

  547. rock of

  548. ages

  549. cleft

  550. for me

  551. in my

  552. place

  553. condemned

  554. he stood

  555. sealed my

  556. pardon

  557. with his

  558. blood

  559. and that is

  560. what makes

  561. us want to

  562. stand up at

  563. times in a

  564. very

  565. Presbyterian

  566. way

  567. and mumble

  568. hand

  569. as we stand

  570. on the

  571. outskirts

  572. of

  573. God's

  574. family

  575. Christ

  576. isolation

  577. Christ

  578. substitution

  579. Christ

  580. submission

  581. thirdly

  582. you see what he

  583. says in the

  584. garden he

  585. says not my

  586. will

  587. but yours

  588. and that is an

  589. amazing statement

  590. it's amazing for

  591. this reason I

  592. hope clearly it

  593. indicates to you

  594. that there is

  595. nothing

  596. absolutely

  597. nothing in

  598. the Lord

  599. Jesus

  600. that would

  601. encourage him

  602. to drink

  603. this cup

  604. he is really

  605. saying to his

  606. father think

  607. about this if

  608. you can

  609. he is saying

  610. to his father

  611. this is not

  612. my will

  613. how could it

  614. be

  615. how could it

  616. be

  617. about the

  618. will of the

  619. perfectly

  620. holy

  621. saviour

  622. to want to

  623. do anything

  624. that would

  625. lead him

  626. into a

  627. position

  628. where he

  629. cried out

  630. my God

  631. my God

  632. why have

  633. you

  634. forsaken

  635. me

  636. no holy

  637. man

  638. could do

  639. that

  640. to will

  641. to be

  642. forsaken

  643. by God

  644. would be

  645. sin wouldn't

  646. it

  647. Jesus

  648. was a

  649. holy

  650. man

  651. so there's

  652. nothing about

  653. this situation

  654. that in

  655. any sense

  656. whatsoever

  657. naturally

  658. attracts his

  659. his holy

  660. humanity

  661. his holy

  662. humanity

  663. runs from

  664. this situation

  665. father if

  666. it's possible

  667. let this

  668. cup pass

  669. from me

  670. we must

  671. never

  672. minimise

  673. the reality

  674. of that

  675. statement

  676. by the

  677. fact that

  678. Jesus says

  679. not my

  680. will but

  681. yours be

  682. done

  683. so I

  684. wonder if

  685. you see

  686. what's

  687. happening

  688. here

  689. Luke has

  690. been setting

  691. it up

  692. so we

  693. understand

  694. it

  695. right from

  696. the very

  697. beginning

  698. do you

  699. remember how

  700. he said

  701. early

  702. all in

  703. Luke's

  704. chapter

  705. he's saying

  706. very clearly

  707. that Jesus

  708. is the

  709. last

  710. Adam

  711. he's the

  712. son of

  713. Adam

  714. Jesus is

  715. paying the

  716. price for

  717. Adam's

  718. sin

  719. and Jesus

  720. is reversing

  721. all that

  722. Adam did

  723. in his

  724. disobedience

  725. remember

  726. Genesis 3

  727. Adam came

  728. to a

  729. tree

  730. and it

  731. tells us

  732. that every

  733. tree in

  734. the garden

  735. of the

  736. knowledge

  737. every tree

  738. in the

  739. garden

  740. including the

  741. tree of the

  742. knowledge of

  743. good and

  744. evil is

  745. described in

  746. identical terms

  747. that it was

  748. beautiful to

  749. behold and

  750. delicious to

  751. eat

  752. the fruit

  753. but about

  754. this one tree

  755. God has given

  756. a command

  757. do not eat

  758. from the

  759. tree

  760. from that

  761. tree

  762. and there

  763. is nothing

  764. in Adam's

  765. nature

  766. that says

  767. don't eat

  768. that

  769. trees

  770. fruit

  771. there's

  772. nothing

  773. that says

  774. in Adam's

  775. nature

  776. don't

  777. eat

  778. apart from

  779. God's

  780. bare naked

  781. command

  782. and the

  783. will of his

  784. heavenly father

  785. that says

  786. to Adam

  787. in the garden

  788. of Eden

  789. it says

  790. trust me

  791. and obey me

  792. for there's

  793. no other

  794. way to be

  795. happy

  796. but to

  797. trust and

  798. obey

  799. trust me

  800. Adam

  801. but Adam

  802. disobeyed

  803. and Adam

  804. rebelled

  805. against God

  806. so now we

  807. come to

  808. another garden

  809. and you are

  810. with the

  811. last Adam

  812. a second

  813. Adam

  814. to the

  815. fight

  816. and to

  817. the rescue

  818. came

  819. and he is

  820. going to

  821. an altogether

  822. different kind

  823. of tree

  824. isn't he

  825. he's going

  826. to a tree

  827. that is

  828. of such

  829. a nature

  830. that everything

  831. in his

  832. holy humanity

  833. wants to

  834. resist it

  835. oh father

  836. no isolation

  837. from you

  838. you imagine

  839. it is actually

  840. inconceivable

  841. isn't it

  842. what this

  843. must have

  844. meant to

  845. him

  846. he'd never

  847. known a

  848. time

  849. in all

  850. of his

  851. life

  852. when he

  853. wasn't

  854. conscious

  855. of his

  856. heavenly

  857. father

  858. smiling

  859. upon

  860. him

  861. loving

  862. him

  863. pouring

  864. out

  865. his

  866. favour

  867. upon

  868. him

  869. delighting

  870. him

  871. in him

  872. and he

  873. comes to

  874. this tree

  875. and there

  876. is nothing

  877. about this

  878. tree that

  879. could possibly

  880. attract him

  881. but it is

  882. his heavenly

  883. father's

  884. will

  885. there was

  886. a greed

  887. in concert

  888. with his

  889. son from

  890. before the

  891. foundation

  892. of the

  893. world

  894. that his

  895. son

  896. would be

  897. submissive

  898. to the

  899. father's

  900. will

  901. in an

  902. obedience

  903. in which

  904. there was

  905. no

  906. attraction

  907. whatsoever

  908. in the

  909. deed of

  910. son

  911. that he

  912. was

  913. summoned

  914. to do

  915. and

  916. knowledge

  917. how much

  918. he

  919. loves

  920. you

  921. and

  922. me

  923. and

  924. there

  925. in the

  926. garden

  927. of

  928. gethsemane

  929. in this

  930. great

  931. moment

  932. it's

  933. what Paul

  934. speaks of

  935. isn't it

  936. in Philippians

  937. chapter

  938. he became

  939. obedient

  940. even

  941. unto

  942. death

  943. even

  944. the

  945. death

  946. of

  947. cross

  948. and

  949. he's

  950. really

  951. saying

  952. as he

  953. looks

  954. at

  955. this

  956. but

  957. father

  958. this

  959. is

  960. on

  961. a

  962. cursed

  963. tree

  964. he

  965. knew

  966. his

  967. bible

  968. to

  969. the

  970. lord

  971. jesus

  972. cursed

  973. is

  974. everyone

  975. who

  976. hangs

  977. on

  978. a

  979. tree

  980. Paul

  981. knew

  982. the same

  983. bible

  984. galatians

  985. 3

  986. 13

  987. he

  988. was

  989. hanged

  990. on

  991. a

  992. tree

  993. and

  994. therefore

  995. he

  996. tasted

  997. the

  998. curse

  999. of

  1000. god

  1001. that

  1002. would

  1003. bring

  1004. such

  1005. desolation

  1006. upon

  1007. him

  1008. and

  1009. as we

  1010. meditate

  1011. on it

  1012. we

  1013. think

  1014. jesus

  1015. how

  1016. could

  1017. he

  1018. do

  1019. this

  1020. for

  1021. me

  1022. he's

  1023. done

  1024. this

  1025. for

  1026. us

  1027. he's

  1028. done

  1029. this

  1030. for

  1031. me

  1032. can

  1033. you

  1034. understand

  1035. the

  1036. wonder

  1037. of

  1038. soul

  1039. of

  1040. tarsus

  1041. being

  1042. able

  1043. to

  1044. say

  1045. the

  1046. son

  1047. of

  1048. god

  1049. loved

  1050. me

  1051. and

  1052. gave

  1053. himself

  1054. for

  1055. me

  1056. and

  1057. it

  1058. is

  1059. this

  1060. that

  1061. brings

  1062. us

  1063. salvation

  1064. a

  1065. child

  1066. can

  1067. understand

  1068. it

  1069. can't

  1070. he

  1071. dies

  1072. for

  1073. my

  1074. sins

  1075. and

  1076. I

  1077. receive

  1078. his

  1079. righteousness

  1080. and

  1081. his

  1082. forgiveness

  1083. upon

  1084. a life

  1085. I did

  1086. not

  1087. live

  1088. upon

  1089. a death

  1090. I did

  1091. not

  1092. die

  1093. I

  1094. stake

  1095. my

  1096. whole

  1097. eternity

  1098. we'll

  1099. come

  1100. later on

  1101. to

  1102. verses

  1103. where

  1104. people

  1105. pitied

  1106. the

  1107. Lord

  1108. Jesus

  1109. they

  1110. pitied

  1111. him

  1112. for

  1113. what

  1114. he

  1115. was

  1116. suffering

  1117. do

  1118. not

  1119. pity

  1120. him

  1121. don't

  1122. pity

  1123. him

  1124. you

  1125. can

  1126. go to

  1127. hell

  1128. pitying

  1129. the

  1130. Lord

  1131. Jesus

  1132. there

  1133. are

  1134. millions

  1135. who

  1136. felt

  1137. sorry

  1138. for

  1139. the

  1140. Lord

  1141. Jesus

  1142. warring

  1143. how

  1144. it

  1145. might

  1146. don't

  1147. pity

  1148. him

  1149. Jesus

  1150. doesn't

  1151. want

  1152. to

  1153. pity

  1154. you

  1155. are

  1156. the

  1157. one

  1158. who

  1159. pities

  1160. what

  1161. he's

  1162. looking

  1163. for

  1164. his

  1165. faith

  1166. and

  1167. he's

  1168. looking

  1169. for

  1170. the

  1171. dawning

  1172. of

  1173. the

  1174. truth

  1175. upon

  1176. your

  1177. mind

  1178. that

  1179. Jesus

  1180. died

  1181. for

  1182. me

  1183. so

  1184. I

  1185. may

  1186. live

  1187. with

  1188. him

  1189. for

  1190. all

  1191. eternity

  1192. Jesus

  1193. was

  1194. alone

  1195. that

  1196. I

  1197. may

  1198. never

  1199. be

  1200. alone

  1201. even

  1202. in the

  1203. midst

  1204. of

  1205. all

  1206. loneliness

  1207. I

  1208. will

  1209. never

  1210. be

  1211. alone

  1212. Jesus

  1213. has

  1214. become

  1215. a

  1216. substitute

  1217. for

  1218. me

  1219. and

  1220. he's

  1221. taken

  1222. my

  1223. place

  1224. on

  1225. the

  1226. cross

  1227. that

  1228. I

  1229. may

  1230. be

  1231. able

  1232. to

  1233. share

  1234. his

  1235. place

  1236. at

  1237. the

  1238. right

  1239. hand

  1240. of

  1241. the

  1242. heavenly

  1243. father

  1244. and

  1245. know

  1246. his

  1247. grace

  1248. and

  1249. his

  1250. glory

  1251. throughout

  1252. all

  1253. eternity

  1254. he

  1255. has

  1256. paid

  1257. the

  1258. price

  1259. that

  1260. I

  1261. might

  1262. have

  1263. the

  1264. gift

  1265. that's

  1266. all

  1267. ever

  1268. you

  1269. do

  1270. tonight

  1271. don't

  1272. pity

  1273. him

  1274. praise

  1275. him

  1276. and

  1277. sin

  1278. I

  1279. stand

  1280. amazed

  1281. in the

  1282. presence

  1283. of

  1284. Jesus

  1285. the

  1286. Nazarene

  1287. oh

  1288. how

  1289. marvellous

  1290. oh

  1291. how

  1292. wonderful

  1293. and that

  1294. is the

  1295. gospel

  1296. and there

  1297. is no

  1298. other

  1299. gospel

  1300. there's

  1301. so much

  1302. no other

  1303. gospel

  1304. that Paul

  1305. says

  1306. if an

  1307. angel

  1308. comes

  1309. and

  1310. preaches

  1311. another

  1312. message

  1313. let him

  1314. be

  1315. damned

  1316. but you

  1317. say

  1318. there must

  1319. be another

  1320. way

  1321. you're going

  1322. to stand

  1323. before

  1324. almighty

  1325. God

  1326. on the

  1327. last day

  1328. of

  1329. judgment

  1330. on your

  1331. life

  1332. and say

  1333. I know

  1334. what

  1335. your

  1336. son

  1337. went

  1338. through

  1339. but I

  1340. thought

  1341. I

  1342. would

  1343. come

  1344. another

  1345. way

  1346. don't

  1347. you

  1348. think

  1349. God

  1350. is

  1351. going

  1352. to

  1353. say

  1354. on

  1355. that

  1356. day

  1357. if

  1358. there

  1359. was

  1360. another

  1361. way

  1362. I

  1363. would

  1364. have

  1365. found

  1366. it

  1367. there

  1368. is

  1369. no

  1370. other

  1371. way

  1372. there

  1373. was

  1374. no

  1375. other

  1376. good

  1377. enough

  1378. to

  1379. pay

  1380. the

  1381. price

  1382. of

  1383. sin

  1384. he

  1385. only

  1386. could

  1387. unlock

  1388. the

  1389. gate

  1390. of

  1391. heaven

  1392. and

  1393. let

  1394. us

  1395. in

  1396. it

  1397. is

  1398. not

  1399. our

  1400. doing

  1401. but

  1402. his

  1403. doing

  1404. and the

  1405. cup

  1406. is

  1407. going

  1408. around

  1409. the

  1410. room

  1411. inside

  1412. the

  1413. cup

  1414. goes

  1415. around

  1416. the

  1417. room

  1418. in

  1419. the

  1420. preaching

  1421. of

  1422. the

  1423. gospel

  1424. the

  1425. cup

  1426. of

  1427. blessing

  1428. and

  1429. Jesus

  1430. offers

  1431. you

  1432. this

  1433. cup

  1434. of

  1435. blessing

  1436. I

  1437. offer

  1438. it

  1439. to

  1440. you

  1441. says

  1442. Jesus

  1443. because

  1444. I

  1445. am

  1446. going

  1447. to

  1448. drink

  1449. the

  1450. last

  1451. bitter

  1452. dregs

  1453. of

  1454. the

  1455. cup

  1456. of

  1457. terrible

  1458. judgment

  1459. and

  1460. cursing

  1461. this

  1462. cup

  1463. it

  1464. comes

  1465. to

  1466. you

  1467. tonight

  1468. will

  1469. you

  1470. drink

  1471. from

  1472. it

  1473. what

  1474. shall

  1475. we

  1476. do

  1477. we

  1478. take

  1479. the

  1480. cup

  1481. of

  1482. salvation

  1483. and

  1484. we

  1485. call

  1486. on

  1487. the

  1488. name

  1489. of

  1490. the

  1491. Lord

  1492. and

  1493. we

  1494. drink

  1495. he

  1496. did

  1497. this

  1498. for

  1499. you

  1500. do

  1501. you

  1502. believe

  1503. he

  1504. did

  1505. this

  1506. for

  1507. you

  1508. do

  1509. you

  1510. do

  1511. you

  1512. trust

  1513. him

  1514. there

  1515. is

  1516. no

  1517. other

  1518. way

  1519. you

  1521. make

  1522. up

  1523. all

  1524. kinds

  1525. of

  1526. other

  1527. ways

  1528. but

  1529. if

  1530. the

  1531. heavenly

  1532. father

  1533. demanded

  1534. that

  1535. his

  1536. son

  1537. go

  1538. through

  1539. this

  1540. for

  1541. your

  1543. I

  1544. cannot

  1545. begin

  1546. to

  1547. tell

  1548. you

  1549. how

  1550. foolish

  1551. you

  1552. would

  1553. be

  1554. to

  1555. think

  1556. that

  1557. you

  1558. can

  1559. say

  1560. to

  1561. him

  1562. I

  1563. found

  1564. another

  1565. way

  1566. the

  1567. cup

  1568. of

  1569. the

  1570. gospel

  1571. is

  1572. in

  1573. your

  1574. hands

  1575. drink

  1576. it

  1577. drink

  1578. it

  1579. deeply

  1580. this

  1581. is

  1582. our

  1583. gospel

  1584. trust

  1585. him

  1586. love

  1587. him

  1588. say

  1589. to

  1590. Jesus

  1591. how

  1592. could

  1593. you

  1594. do

  1595. all

  1596. this

  1597. for

  1598. me

  1599. it's

  1600. so

  1601. simple

  1604. because

  1605. I

  1606. love

  1607. you

  1608. with

  1609. all

  1610. my

  1611. heart

  1612. Jesus

  1613. trust

  1614. me

  1615. follow

  1616. me

  1617. serve

  1618. me

  1619. it's

  1620. amazing

  1621. isn't

  1622. it

  1623. what a

  1624. savior

  1625. that's

  1626. part
