  1. Just before Christmas three years ago, I had a completely un-Christmassy experience.

  2. ! I was walking home from my office, which was in the middle of Richmond.

  3. I walked out to the A316, which is the big dual carriageway, which, if you go down far enough, turns into the M3.

  4. I just crossed over at St Margaret's with the traffic lights.

  5. About five, maybe ten seconds after I crossed over the road,

  6. all the lights went out. All the street lights, all the traffic lights,

  7. and the person who walked in light was plunged into darkness,

  8. which is, of course, the opposite of what Christmas is.

  9. Now, at that point, I have to say, my first thought was,

  10. I'm really glad I got across the road before the lights failed,

  11. because if there had been no lights, I would have had no hope of getting across.

  12. And sure enough, as soon as the traffic lights went out, I could hear the horns sounding,

  13. I turned around and saw some cars, depending on the personality of the driver,

  14. approaching the roundabout at high speed, kind of forcing their ways on,

  15. others approaching very gingerly.

  16. And it was just carnage and chaos.

  17. Horns beeping, no doubt.

  18. Angry voices in the cars.

  19. You see, without light, there's chaos and confusion.

  20. Without light, we cannot see reality.

  21. We cannot see what is really there.

  22. Without light, there is no hope.

  23. I would have had no hope of crossing that road

  24. if the lights had not still been on while I came to that point.

  25. So we need light, don't we?

  26. And that's what Christmas is about.

  27. That's what this great promise that God made through the prophet Isaiah

  28. over 700 years earlier was about.

  29. Verse 2,

  30. The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light.

  31. Light that reveals reality.

  32. Light that gives hope in the midst of darkness and confusion.

  33. Light that provides peace and security

  34. instead of cars driving into each other

  35. and honking at each other and getting angry.

  36. We often use light as a very powerful metaphor, don't we, for hope.

  37. When Nelson Mandela died just over a year ago,

  38. David Cameron's comment was,

  39. A great light has gone out in this world.

  40. Why?

  41. Because to many people,

  42. Mandela's life was an example of hope,

  43. a beacon of hope.

  44. Well, in Isaiah's day,

  45. the people needed hope.

  46. They needed light.

  47. And if we understand the context

  48. into which this promise was given,

  49. then we'll start to understand its relevance

  50. for Christmas,

  51. its relevance for us today.

  52. So the situation was this,

  53. and if you were here last week,

  54. you'll know some of this.

  55. It was about 732 AD.

  56. Jerusalem, the capital of Judah,

  57. was full of fear,

  58. full of anxiety.

  59. After years of stability

  60. and economic progress,

  61. a new king had come to the throne,

  62. King Ahaz.

  63. And he faced a serious threat.

  64. The Syrian army in the north

  65. and the Israelite army to the north

  66. had ganged up on him,

  67. were encamped around Jerusalem.

  68. And he was looking for any hope,

  69. any sense of security

  70. in the midst of that darkness.

  71. There was uncertainty about the future.

  72. It was fear.

  73. The situation seemed bleak and dark.

  74. And in the bleakness and the darkness,

  75. where did people look?

  76. Well, if you look up to the top of the page,

  77. the very first line on 6-9-2,

  78. the end of verse 19,

  79. some were inquiring of the mediums

  80. and the necromancers

  81. who chirp and mutter.

  82. People were going to superstition

  83. and to the occult

  84. and to any kind of thing they could get

  85. to try and get some sort of hope.

  86. Meanwhile, the experts

  87. had their opinion as well.

  88. So if you turn back over the page,

  89. under the title where it says,

  90. Fear God, wait for the Lord,

  91. verse 12,

  92. some people were talking about conspiracy.

  93. The Lord says to Isaiah,

  94. do not call conspiracy

  95. all that these people call conspiracy.

  96. Do not fear what they fear

  97. or be in dread.

  98. It's a sort of picture

  99. of the experts of the day

  100. sitting there going,

  101. oh, it's all a conspiracy theory.

  102. What do we have today

  103. as we look in our newspapers

  104. and look on the websites?

  105. There are lots of conspiracy theories

  106. out there, aren't there?

  107. Maybe no one ever went to the moon,

  108. but there are always conspiracies

  109. about what's going on

  110. in the Middle East.

  111. So many people resorting

  112. to horoscopes

  113. to find some hope for the future.

  114. Superstition, conspiracy,

  115. it's all still rife in our days.

  116. People look for light

  117. in the midst of darkness,

  118. isn't it?

  119. Do you know what the real darkness

  120. was in Isaiah's day?

  121. The real darkness was

  122. that people were turning

  123. to the occult,

  124. turning to human schemes

  125. like Ahaz,

  126. who had ignored God's promises

  127. and trusted that he could form

  128. a political alliance

  129. that would get him through

  130. the oncoming conflict.

  131. People had turned away from God

  132. and they turned away from light

  133. and ended up in darkness.

  134. Their refusal to trust God's promises

  135. instead relying on their own efforts

  136. is what the real darkness was.

  137. It wasn't just the darkness of invasion.

  138. It was the darkness

  139. of turning away from God

  140. and trusting in themselves.

  141. That's not so very different

  142. from today, is it?

  143. People long for hope

  144. and peace in the world,

  145. don't they?

  146. In the world out there,

  147. we look for peace and security

  148. in our own lives,

  149. and yet so often

  150. we rely on human things

  151. and not on God's promises.

  152. That's really the key issue here.

  153. What will you trust?

  154. Do you trust in God

  155. and what he's doing?

  156. Or in human plans

  157. and human wisdom

  158. and human endeavour?

  159. This year is a very poignant year,

  160. isn't it?

  161. 2014.

  162. It's a hundred years

  163. since the end of World War I.

  164. And I'm sure you know

  165. what they used to call World War I.

  166. It was the war to end all wars.

  167. It hasn't quite worked out like that,

  168. has it?

  169. But why do people think

  170. that would be the war

  171. that would end all wars?

  172. Because at the turn of that century,

  173. to the 19th and to the 20th century,

  174. in a time of great optimism,

  175. there's been so much progress

  176. in human understanding

  177. and advancement

  178. over the previous century.

  179. So much that was new.

  180. That people believed

  181. that actually human beings

  182. would solve all the world's problems.

  183. We could live at peace

  184. with one another.

  185. Human rationality,

  186. human advancement

  187. would lead to all the progress

  188. we needed.

  189. So the world was deeply influenced

  190. by the so-called enlightenment

  191. of the 18th century,

  192. which put great faith

  193. in human reasons.

  194. Yet what happened

  195. in World War I?

  196. The great advanced powers

  197. of the day

  198. entered into a futile battle

  199. where it got no one nowhere

  200. and destroyed millions.

  201. It showed that no matter

  202. how advanced or clever

  203. we thought we were,

  204. we could not provide peace

  205. for ourselves.

  206. Human institutions

  207. and philosophies

  208. could not provide peace.

  209. Well, fast forward

  210. from 1914

  211. towards the end

  212. of the 20th century,

  213. 1989, 1990,

  214. as the Berlin Wall

  215. came tumbling down,

  216. Francis Fukuyama,

  217. political scientist

  218. in America,

  219. declared it was

  220. the end of history

  221. as communism tumbled.

  222. Why did he say that?

  223. Because really,

  224. over the previous 200 years,

  225. there have been

  226. two human philosophies

  227. that sought to bring

  228. prosperity and peace

  229. to the world.

  230. There was capitalism

  231. on one hand

  232. and communism

  233. on the other.

  234. So as communism fell,

  235. Fukuyama,

  236. a learned American

  237. political scientist,

  238. declared this is

  239. the end of history.

  240. Capitalism has won.

  241. From now on,

  242. there will be peace.

  243. Well, has it worked

  244. out like that

  245. in the last 25 years?

  246. Of course not.

  247. Neither communism

  248. !

  249. Neither communism

  250. nor capitalism

  251. has brought peace

  252. on the earth.

  253. These are human philosophies,

  254. human ideas.

  255. They cannot solve

  256. the deep problems

  257. in the human heart.

  258. Even over the last few years,

  259. I was fascinated to read

  260. about two or three years ago

  261. in the midst of

  262. the Eurozone crisis

  263. when politicians

  264. across the Eurozone

  265. were scrabbling

  266. to find a solution

  267. to all the debt problems

  268. and Greece particularly.

  269. What would happen

  270. would the Eurozone

  271. fall apart?

  272. British political scientist

  273. John Gray

  274. wrote this.

  275. European institutions

  276. have preserved the peace

  277. for more than a generation.

  278. That's true.

  279. It's been a long time

  280. since the end

  281. of World War II.

  282. These institutions

  283. have provided

  284. a steady growth

  285. and prosperity.

  286. And so now

  287. the very idea

  288. that they could break up

  289. challenges the prevailing belief

  290. in steady improvement

  291. which is

  292. get this

  293. the faith

  294. of practical men

  295. and women

  296. who imagine

  297. they have no religion.

  298. The faith

  299. of practical men

  300. and women

  301. who imagine

  302. they have no religion

  303. but actually look

  304. to human institutions

  305. and human philosophies

  306. for peace

  307. and security

  308. and growth

  309. in this world.

  310. That doesn't just happen

  311. out there

  312. on the global scene

  313. does it?

  314. It happens in here

  315. in our own hearts

  316. and lives.

  317. We want hope.

  318. We want life.

  319. We long for hope

  320. and security

  321. in the midst

  322. of personal darkness

  323. be that

  324. insecurity

  325. in our work situations

  326. problems

  327. in our families.

  328. And every human being

  329. longs for

  330. some hope.

  331. We cannot live

  332. without hope

  333. do we?

  334. So some of us

  335. place that hope

  336. in achievement

  337. if I work hard

  338. and if I get

  339. the next promotion

  340. then I'll be happy

  341. then I'll be secure.

  342. Yet the promotion

  343. comes

  344. and just extra

  345. insecurities are added.

  346. We think

  347. our children

  348. if they're safe

  349. if they're secure

  350. if I get them

  351. safely out of the house

  352. off to university

  353. as reasonably

  354. responsible people

  355. I'll be happy

  356. and secure then.

  357. And yet even that

  358. doesn't happen

  359. does it?

  360. Because then just

  361. bigger worries

  362. take hold.

  363. And of course

  364. people look for

  365. inner peace

  366. in all sorts of places.

  367. A great trend

  368. over the last five years

  369. has been mindfulness.

  370. I don't know if you've

  371. seen the stuff

  372. on mindfulness

  373. that you need to

  374. kind of cut out

  375. the world's distractions

  376. and just focus

  377. on things

  378. and that will

  379. bring you peace.

  380. Of course

  381. there is some truth

  382. that if you block

  383. out the rest of the world

  384. you can find

  385. some sort of

  386. short-lived peace.

  387. But these are all

  388. human ideas

  389. human achievements

  390. human aspirations

  391. and none of them

  392. brings lasting light.

  393. Because all of us

  394. all of them

  395. at the end of the day

  396. are turning away

  397. from a God

  398. who loves us

  399. and is in control

  400. of everything

  401. instead seeking

  402. a solution

  403. seeking peace

  404. seeking life

  405. in our own efforts

  406. to build up

  407. our security.

  408. We are people

  409. who walk in darkness

  410. we need

  411. a great light.

  412. So what is this light

  413. that God promises

  414. to rise to?

  415. Let's have a look at it

  416. I want you to see

  417. first of all

  418. the change that comes

  419. about as this light

  420. dawns

  421. verses 2 and 3

  422. the people

  423. who walked in

  424. darkness

  425. have seen

  426. a great light

  427. those who dwelt

  428. in a land

  429. of deep darkness

  430. on them

  431. has light shone.

  432. Do you notice

  433. this is not a light

  434. that the people

  435. light up for themselves

  436. it's not a light

  437. people have generated

  438. for themselves

  439. it's a light

  440. that suddenly

  441. shines on them

  442. a bit like

  443. the street lights

  444. when they came

  445. back on

  446. just shone

  447. so we could see

  448. what does this

  449. light lead to?

  450. Verse 3

  451. what does it mean?

  452. You've multiplied

  453. the nation

  454. you've increased

  455. its joy

  456. they rejoice

  457. before you

  458. as with joy

  459. at the harvest

  460. as they're glad

  461. when they divide

  462. the spoil

  463. it's a picture

  464. of partying

  465. it's a picture

  466. of happiness

  467. suddenly

  468. the nation

  469. that looks like

  470. it was decreasing

  471. and going to be

  472. destroyed

  473. is growing again

  474. it's like the

  475. happiness

  476. that people

  477. in the city

  478. feel

  479. when they get

  480. their bonuses

  481. that's the

  482. harvest there

  483. the joy

  484. when the spoil

  485. is divided

  486. and what's

  487. the reason

  488. for this?

  489. why is there

  490. now hope?

  491. well the immediate

  492. reason is in

  493. verse 4 and 5

  494. for the yoke

  495. of his burden

  496. and the staff

  497. of his shoulder

  498. the rod of his

  499. oppressor

  500. you have broken

  501. as on the day

  502. of Midian

  503. so at the time

  504. Isaiah was speaking

  505. about Israel

  506. being

  507. or Judah rather

  508. being ruled over

  509. by the Assyrians

  510. being forced

  511. into working

  512. for them

  513. the rod of the

  514. oppressor

  515. but now that's

  516. been lifted

  517. the oppression

  518. they would deal

  519. with has gone

  520. the army that

  521. was marching

  522. in would be

  523. destroyed

  524. look at this

  525. verse 5

  526. for every boot

  527. of a tramping

  528. warrior

  529. in battle

  530. tumours

  531. and every garment

  532. rolled in blood

  533. will be burned

  534. as fuel for fire

  535. it's not just the

  536. weapons of war

  537. that have gone

  538. it's the very

  539. uniform

  540. the very shoes

  541. that soldiers

  542. would wear

  543. that's all being

  544. chucked out

  545. it's no longer

  546. needed

  547. peace has come

  548. as this light

  549. dawns

  550. so what's

  551. causing the

  552. end of

  553. oppression

  554. what's causing

  555. the end of

  556. all conflict

  557. is it a mighty

  558. army

  559. what's doing

  560. what world war

  561. one didn't do

  562. what's going to

  563. do what the

  564. UN has never

  565. managed to do

  566. and bring peace

  567. and the end of

  568. oppression

  569. well look at

  570. verse 6

  571. the ultimate

  572. reason for this

  573. for to us

  574. a child

  575. is born

  576. to us

  577. a son

  578. is given

  579. the solution

  580. to a world

  581. without peace

  582. solution to

  583. insecurity

  584. solution to

  585. the darkness

  586. of not being

  587. able to see

  588. reality

  589. is a child

  590. coming into

  591. the world

  592. a child being

  593. given to us

  594. coming from

  595. outside

  596. and look at

  597. who this child

  598. is

  599. it's an amazing

  600. series of titles

  601. isn't it

  602. verse 5

  603. as it goes on

  604. the government

  605. shall be upon

  606. his shoulder

  607. and his name

  608. shall be called

  609. wonderful

  610. counsellor

  611. mighty God

  612. everlasting

  613. father

  614. prince of

  615. peace

  616. here he is

  617. this child

  618. he born

  619. is going to

  620. grow up

  621. as literally

  622. a wonder

  623. of a counsellor

  624. a wonder

  625. of a counsellor

  626. someone who's

  627. got divine

  628. wisdom

  629. to lead

  630. human wisdom

  631. fails doesn't

  632. it

  633. I'm so glad

  634. I'm not a

  635. prime minister

  636. or a president

  637. I can't

  638. understand all

  639. the things

  640. that are going

  641. on in the

  642. world

  643. who can

  644. that this

  645. child he born

  646. would have

  647. divine wisdom

  648. a wonder

  649. of a counsellor

  650. not only that

  651. he is mighty

  652. God

  653. born as a

  654. baby

  655. yet fully

  656. God

  657. as well as

  658. fully human

  659. I don't know

  660. if you've ever

  661. had Jehovah's

  662. witnesses come

  663. and tell you

  664. that Jesus

  665. was not really

  666. God

  667. it's a great

  668. verse to confuse

  669. them with

  670. right here in the

  671. Old Testament

  672. God promises

  673. that

  674. the eternal

  675. son of God

  676. will be born

  677. as a child

  678. as a gift

  679. to his people

  680. as a true

  681. king

  682. to rule

  683. over them

  684. and bring

  685. the liberty

  686. and peace

  687. they needed

  688. so he's a

  689. wonder of a

  690. counsellor

  691. he's a mighty

  692. God

  693. he's the

  694. everlasting

  695. father

  696. a father

  697. should care

  698. for and provide

  699. for his

  700. children

  701. the father

  702. of a nation

  703. cares for

  704. and provides

  705. for a nation

  706. doesn't he

  707. Nelson Mandela

  708. again

  709. when he died

  710. many South

  711. Africans had

  712. called him

  713. the father

  714. of the nation

  715. in a sense

  716. as though he

  717. was

  718. it was

  719. under his

  720. rule

  721. that white

  722. only rule

  723. was ended

  724. in South

  725. Africa

  726. but here

  727. is an

  728. everlasting

  729. father

  730. he will

  731. not die

  732. he will

  733. not like

  734. some human

  735. fathers

  736. lose interest

  737. and walk

  738. away

  739. he is a

  740. father to

  741. his people

  742. who will

  743. always care

  744. always provide

  745. always be

  746. there

  747. and what

  748. else is he

  749. prince of

  750. peace

  751. in other

  752. words he's

  753. the prince

  754. the ruler

  755. whose reign

  756. is characterized

  757. by peace

  758. whose reign

  759. is characterized

  760. by peace

  761. so what are

  762. the prospects

  763. when this

  764. child grows

  765. up and

  766. rules

  767. what are

  768. the prospects

  769. what's going

  770. to happen

  771. well

  772. let's look at

  773. verse 7

  774. of the increase

  775. of his government

  776. and of peace

  777. there will be

  778. no end

  779. isn't that what

  780. we'd all love

  781. isn't that what

  782. people hoped

  783. the end of

  784. world war one

  785. would bring

  786. but it didn't

  787. or the end of

  788. communism would

  789. bring

  790. but it didn't

  791. peace

  792. now what do

  793. you think of

  794. when you hear

  795. that word

  796. peace

  797. I guess many

  798. of us probably

  799. think of the

  800. absence of

  801. conflict

  802. don't we

  803. but in the

  804. original language

  805. this is a much

  806. bigger word

  807. than that

  808. it's not just

  809. the absence

  810. of conflict

  811. it's the presence

  812. of wholeness

  813. shalom in the

  814. original

  815. it's every hunger

  816. satisfied

  817. every relationship

  818. mended

  819. every joy

  820. made complete

  821. the world

  822. restored

  823. to the wholeness

  824. that we all

  825. long for

  826. and believe

  827. we should have

  828. so how does

  829. Jesus' birth

  830. bring that light

  831. to people

  832. walking in

  833. darkness

  834. how does it

  835. bring light

  836. to people

  837. like us

  838. well of course

  839. to understand

  840. that we really

  841. need to look

  842. at the whole

  843. of Jesus' life

  844. and we don't

  845. have time to

  846. do that

  847. in five minutes

  848. now

  849. but let me

  850. just say this

  851. a little bit

  852. like the street

  853. lights

  854. or light

  855. generally

  856. helps us to

  857. see what is

  858. really there

  859. so Jesus

  860. in his life

  861. and teaching

  862. reveals reality

  863. to us

  864. he shows us

  865. what we are

  866. really like

  867. and what God

  868. is really like

  869. and just as

  870. the lights

  871. provided security

  872. for me

  873. crossing the road

  874. not after your

  875. fear of being

  876. run over

  877. by the traffic

  878. so this

  879. this baby

  880. as he grows up

  881. Jesus

  882. the king

  883. will provide

  884. security

  885. through his reign

  886. see that in the rest

  887. of verse 7

  888. on the throne

  889. of David

  890. David the great

  891. king over

  892. Israel

  893. to whom God

  894. had promised

  895. a throne

  896. forever

  897. on the throne

  898. of David

  899. and over his

  900. kingdom

  901. to establish it

  902. and to uphold it

  903. with justice

  904. and with righteousness

  905. from this time

  906. forth

  907. and forever

  908. more

  909. see he will

  910. he will rule

  911. forever

  912. and so he will

  913. bring justice

  914. and righteousness

  915. we see the disaster

  916. that happens in the world

  917. when there is no

  918. just rule

  919. we see that in Syria

  920. we heard the news

  921. yesterday

  922. about trial

  923. falling apart

  924. in South Africa

  925. and the

  926. heartache

  927. obviously I don't

  928. know the rights

  929. and wrongs

  930. went on there

  931. but the heartache

  932. of the family

  933. of the murdered

  934. woman

  935. that they

  936. feel they haven't

  937. got justice

  938. they'll never

  939. understand what

  940. happened to their

  941. daughter

  942. it's a terrible

  943. thing isn't it

  944. and yet here is

  945. the one who will

  946. rule and bring

  947. absolute justice

  948. and righteousness

  949. and that means

  950. he will judge

  951. justly

  952. he will destroy

  953. all who oppose

  954. his reign

  955. all who bring

  956. grief and strife

  957. on this world

  958. so he reveals

  959. reality

  960. he provides

  961. security

  962. he brings hope

  963. of the increase

  964. of his government

  965. and of peace

  966. there will be no end

  967. and as you read

  968. on through the

  969. story of Jesus

  970. life you'll see

  971. that hope

  972. that he died

  973. but then rose

  974. again

  975. and his resurrection

  976. the fact that he's

  977. alive is confirmation

  978. that he really is the

  979. king

  980. that he really is

  981. the one reigning

  982. yes he has not yet

  983. destroyed all evil

  984. he has not yet

  985. brought in his

  986. perfect eternal

  987. kingdom in its

  988. fullness

  989. the peace and

  990. security we all

  991. long for

  992. but the day will

  993. come

  994. his resurrection

  995. proves that

  996. one of the reasons

  997. I'm a Christian

  998. is I'm convinced

  999. that Jesus Christ

  1000. really rose from

  1001. the dead

  1002. so how can this

  1003. child do all this

  1004. how can he

  1005. reveal reality

  1006. provide security

  1007. and bring hope

  1008. well he does it

  1009. ultimately

  1010. through the

  1011. culmination of

  1012. his life on earth

  1013. when he died

  1014. on the cross

  1015. to pay for

  1016. all the wickedness

  1017. all the

  1018. unrighteousness

  1019. all the injustice

  1020. so that all

  1021. who trust in him

  1022. can be forgiven

  1023. all who will

  1024. turn and bow

  1025. down to him

  1026. as the rightful

  1027. king

  1028. can be forgiven

  1029. so that's how he

  1030. provides everlasting

  1031. security

  1032. for those who

  1033. accept that offer

  1034. of forgiveness

  1035. who accept the

  1036. offer that Jesus

  1037. death can pay for

  1038. our punishment

  1039. we can have

  1040. everlasting security

  1041. as part of his

  1042. kingdom

  1043. so really there are

  1044. two ways to live

  1045. just as the people

  1046. of Isaiah's day

  1047. found

  1048. we can either

  1049. trust in God's

  1050. promises

  1051. trust what God

  1052. does

  1053. including sending

  1054. his son

  1055. to be the king

  1056. who will bring

  1057. peace

  1058. for those who

  1059. submit to him

  1060. or we can look

  1061. to human solutions

  1062. human ways

  1063. to find our own

  1064. hope

  1065. see Jesus is the

  1066. one

  1067. this baby born at

  1068. Christmas

  1069. the child given

  1070. to us

  1071. is the one who

  1072. brings real hope

  1073. he is the light

  1074. who comes into

  1075. the world

  1076. who reveals the

  1077. reality about

  1078. God and his

  1079. love

  1080. about us

  1081. human beings

  1082. and our

  1083. desperate need

  1084. our desperate

  1085. rebellion in

  1086. our hearts

  1087. that causes the

  1088. troubles in the

  1089. world

  1090. he is the one

  1091. who provides a

  1092. way for us

  1093. to be right

  1094. with God again

  1095. to have hope

  1096. to have life

  1097. and light

  1098. so really quite

  1099. two questions

  1100. for us as we

  1101. close

  1102. firstly how do we

  1103. respond to this

  1104. gift of a child

  1105. at Christmas time

  1106. you know what it's

  1107. like at Christmas

  1108. don't you

  1109. perhaps remember

  1110. this from being

  1111. a kid

  1112. we got gifts

  1113. under a Christmas

  1114. tree

  1115. and I'm sure

  1116. as children

  1117. none of us

  1118. left the gifts

  1119. there did we

  1120. in fact the

  1121. trouble was trying

  1122. to get them

  1123. before Christmas

  1124. morning if we're

  1125. honest

  1126. we'd always take

  1127. them and open

  1128. them up and see

  1129. what they were

  1130. well here's a

  1131. gift that would

  1132. be foolish to

  1133. leave behind

  1134. wouldn't we

  1135. so what will we

  1136. do with this

  1137. child that's been

  1138. given to us

  1139. will we just

  1140. leave him there

  1141. unopened

  1142. be rude to do

  1143. that wouldn't it

  1144. let me ask

  1145. another question

  1146. where do you

  1147. really look for

  1148. light in your

  1149. life where do

  1150. you look for

  1151. hope and

  1152. security where

  1153. do our friends

  1154. look for light

  1155. and hope in

  1156. the midst of

  1157. darkness

  1158. human philosophies

  1159. man made

  1160. ideas they

  1161. fail they leave

  1162. us stumbling

  1163. around as I

  1164. was stumbling

  1165. around when those

  1166. lights went out

  1167. we need the

  1168. light that God

  1169. gives the people

  1170. who walked in

  1171. darkness have

  1172. seen a great

  1173. light

  1174. let's pray

  1175. you
