  1. Welcome. We're going to continue the talk from last week. If you did not get the handout from last week, I can give it to you. I have some extra copies. But also you have a handout for today. Now, this is just the Bible verses that we're going to be looking at looking at today.

  2. And so what we're going to be doing is looking at how is God changing Muslims and bringing them to Christ? What is God doing and how you can be involved?

  3. Remember the question that we read last week was in Mark 4.41. And the disciples are saying, who is this that even the wind and the waves obey him? A great question, as I said. You want everybody to ask that question.

  4. And that's the question you want Muslims to ask. Who is this person? Who is this Jesus? And if I can see it, if a Muslim asks me that question, I say, great. And then we can start talking about what the Gospels say about him.

  5. So look at Romans 10. It's on your sheet. It's 1 through 4 and 9 through 15. Now we have a lot to cover, so we have to read further quickly, but listen carefully.

  6. Brothers, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved.

  7. For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

  8. For being ignorant of the righteousness of God and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness.

  9. For Christ is the end of the law, for righteousness to everyone who believes.

  10. Because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

  11. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.

  12. For the scripture says everyone who believes in him will not be put to shame, for there is no distinction between Jew and Greek.

  13. For the same Lord is Lord of all, bestowing his riches on all who call on him.

  14. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  15. How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed?

  16. And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?

  17. And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

  18. And how are they to preach unless they are sent?

  19. As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news.

  20. Now in these verses, Paul is talking about, in the first few verses, he's talking about the Jews.

  21. But as I was reading this a number of years ago, I thought, wait a minute, this sounds just like Muslims.

  22. Exactly.

  23. Exactly.

  24. Because the description of the Jews sounds just what the Muslims are thinking themselves.

  25. Almost exactly.

  26. See, Muslims are indeed zealous for God.

  27. But zeal for God cannot make you right with the Holy God.

  28. Zeal can be misdirected.

  29. You know that.

  30. See, the problem is, their zeal is not based on knowledge.

  31. Something is missing here.

  32. And it's very, very important.

  33. See, according to verse 3, they do not submit to the righteousness of God.

  34. They are trying to get to heaven by their own works of righteousness.

  35. I can do it.

  36. I can do it.

  37. It's my righteousness, they're saying.

  38. But that is not the teaching of the Bible at all.

  39. But the Bible says we cannot get to heaven by doing righteous or good things.

  40. We are all corrupt and under God's just judgments because of our sin.

  41. The only way to know God is in trusting the Lord Jesus Christ alone for salvation.

  42. On the cross, Jesus took our sins upon himself and he died in our place.

  43. And he gave us the gift of his righteousness.

  44. No one can come into a relationship with God except through the saving work of the Lord Jesus.

  45. Which he secured on the cross in his resurrection.

  46. It is for those who are trusting in him alone.

  47. Remember this, my friends.

  48. You become a Christian not by doing something.

  49. But by believing in a person.

  50. The person is the Lord Jesus Christ.

  51. It says in verse 13 that we just read.

  52. For everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  53. Notice who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

  54. Sadly, my friends.

  55. The Muslims know none of this.

  56. None of this.

  57. A few years ago, a group of us from our church went to the mosque.

  58. And we were there because the Muslims are going to talk about what they believe.

  59. And we also talked about what we believe.

  60. And I want you to listen to what the Muslims said.

  61. Listen very carefully.

  62. He said,

  63. I honor Jesus.

  64. I love him.

  65. I love him.

  66. I love him.

  67. And when he returns,

  68. I will hug him and kiss his hand.

  69. That's what the Muslim teacher said.

  70. Is that good?

  71. Or is that not good?

  72. My friends, it is not good.

  73. And this is what you must understand.

  74. The Jesus of Islam is not at all the Jesus of the Bible.

  75. So I went home that day.

  76. And I looked up and found out what is he saying?

  77. What do they really believe about Jesus?

  78. And listen to what I found.

  79. It is very disturbing.

  80. He didn't say this.

  81. I found this later.

  82. This is what Islamic theology says.

  83. Jesus will descend to the earth.

  84. When you see him,

  85. you will recognize him,

  86. a man of medium height,

  87. reddish hair,

  88. wearing two light yellow garments.

  89. He will fight the people

  90. for the cause of Islam.

  91. Did you hear that?

  92. He will then break the cross to pieces.

  93. He then will kill the pigs.

  94. Because Muslims don't import.

  95. That's what Jesus of Islam will do.

  96. And then it says,

  97. Allah will perish all religions except Islam.

  98. Jesus will destroy the Antichrist

  99. and will live on earth for 40 years

  100. and then Jesus will die.

  101. The Muslims will pray over him.

  102. And it says this,

  103. Jesus, son of Mary,

  104. will come down to the world.

  105. Now it says he will get married.

  106. He will live for 45 years

  107. and then die.

  108. He will be buried with Mohammed

  109. in his grave.

  110. Then I, that is Mohammedan,

  111. Jesus, son of Mary,

  112. will stand up in the grave

  113. and ascend to paradise hand in hand.

  114. Now, is that the Jesus of the Bible?

  115. Not at all.

  116. Not at all.

  117. Muslims have no idea who Jesus is.

  118. In fact, what I just read to you,

  119. this was written over 700 years

  120. after the time of the Lord Jesus Christ in the mind.

  121. But look again at Romans 10, 14.

  122. How then will they call on him

  123. in whom they have not believed?

  124. And how are they to believe in him

  125. of whom they have never heard?

  126. And how are they to hear

  127. without someone preaching?

  128. Someone needs to say something.

  129. They don't not know.

  130. They must come to know the Lord Jesus

  131. as Savior and Lord and Son of God

  132. to be saved.

  133. Last week I mentioned to you

  134. that there are thousands of Muslims

  135. coming to know the Lord today.

  136. And that is very true.

  137. Despite the great differences

  138. between Jesus of Islam

  139. and Jesus of the Bible,

  140. many Muslims are now

  141. confessing Jesus as Lord and God

  142. and Savior

  143. and Messiah and Son of God.

  144. God is doing great work

  145. in the Muslim world.

  146. Now, I want to share with you

  147. two testimonies if I have time.

  148. I'm the only time to do one,

  149. but I'll try to do two of them.

  150. And I want to read one of them

  151. from this book.

  152. This is an amazing book.

  153. It says,

  154. From Cairo to Christ,

  155. It's Egyptian to become a Christian

  156. from a Muslim background.

  157. Now, listen to what he said.

  158. It's so good

  159. because he's telling you

  160. what he was thinking

  161. before he became a Christian.

  162. And that's what's good about it.

  163. What led him to become a Christian?

  164. He's telling you here.

  165. Now, listen carefully.

  166. I kept having internal conflicts

  167. and continued to raise questions.

  168. Most of them had to do

  169. with the behavior of the Christians

  170. I was getting to know

  171. in comparison to that

  172. of the Muslims I had long known.

  173. There's a saying in Arabic,

  174. only a rotten orange

  175. produces rotten juice.

  176. So if Christianity is so rotten,

  177. why were the Christians

  178. I had gotten to know

  179. so good?

  180. How then was this rotten orange

  181. of Christianity

  182. producing such good juice

  183. while the perfect orange of Islam

  184. was producing rotten juice?

  185. See, he's thinking.

  186. He's thinking.

  187. He says this,

  188. The Christians,

  189. they loved their God

  190. and one another.

  191. A Muslim like me

  192. didn't love or yearn for God.

  193. We feared and obeyed God.

  194. The Christians turned to their God

  195. as if he were their dearest

  196. and most beloved friend.

  197. Isn't that good?

  198. For them,

  199. it was almost a romance.

  200. For me,

  201. such a romance

  202. was a scandal.

  203. What do you mean

  204. you love God?

  205. You know,

  206. they said,

  207. listen,

  208. don't say that.

  209. They were shocked by that.

  210. What's that mean?

  211. He said,

  212. in Islam,

  213. the goal

  214. is to submit

  215. to the guidance

  216. of the prophet,

  217. that is,

  218. Muhammad,

  219. their prophet.

  220. Not to understand

  221. more of God's love.

  222. In contrast,

  223. now listen to this,

  224. what he says.

  225. In contrast,

  226. the Christians

  227. I don't think to know

  228. weren't worried

  229. about getting everything right.

  230. Isn't that good?

  231. Let me read that again.

  232. The Christians

  233. I was getting to know

  234. weren't worried

  235. about getting everything right.

  236. They were pursuing

  237. a relationship

  238. with a person,

  239. like we said,

  240. the person of Christ.

  241. And that person

  242. loved them

  243. really enough

  244. to give up his life

  245. for them.

  246. I began to wonder,

  247. how much of what

  248. I have learned

  249. about both Islam

  250. and Christianity

  251. is wrong.

  252. So this was

  253. very difficult for me.

  254. It brought about

  255. an identity crisis.

  256. Could everything

  257. my family and society

  258. taught me

  259. about Islam and Christianity

  260. be untrue?

  261. My whole sense

  262. of reality and truth

  263. was collapsing

  264. right in front of my eyes.

  265. What would I do

  266. if my whole belief system

  267. were a lie?

  268. I came to recognize

  269. that I would never

  270. become perfect

  271. by following

  272. all the rules

  273. of Islamic law.

  274. I could never be sure

  275. if my book of good deeds

  276. would be heavier

  277. than my book of evil deeds

  278. on judgment day.

  279. For I believed

  280. Christ could make me perfect.

  281. See, man,

  282. he's talking about Jesus.

  283. Come here, dear.

  284. Since he was perfect,

  285. I could claim

  286. his perfection

  287. as my own

  288. if I accepted him.

  289. I was about to

  290. commit

  291. the unpardonable sin

  292. that is

  293. blasphemy

  294. putting someone

  295. or something

  296. at the level

  297. of God,

  298. namely Jesus Christ.

  299. Would it be worth it?

  300. Should I risk death?

  301. I became a Christian

  302. on Christmas Day

  303. in 1977.

  304. I was baptized

  305. into Christ.

  306. I chose

  307. the Christian name

  308. of Stephen,

  309. the first martyr,

  310. suspecting

  311. that my own martyrdom

  312. might not be far off.

  313. Now, how many of you

  314. changed your name

  315. when you became

  316. a Christian,

  317. fearing that your martyrdom

  318. may not be far off?

  319. He trusted Christ

  320. and God changed his life.

  321. There's two important truths

  322. we need to know

  323. after reading this testimony.

  324. That God

  325. used the lives

  326. of Christians

  327. to begin

  328. his journey

  329. from Islam

  330. to Christianity,

  331. from Islam

  332. to Christ.

  333. He met some Christians

  334. and saw their love

  335. for each other

  336. and for the Lord Jesus.

  337. These Christians

  338. were different.

  339. He watched

  340. and listened

  341. to them.

  342. And number two,

  343. he wanted to know

  344. why they were different.

  345. And this is important.

  346. Why are these Christians

  347. different?

  348. And then,

  349. why they believed

  350. in the Lord Jesus.

  351. For him,

  352. it was the kindness

  353. of Christians

  354. that caused him

  355. to start thinking

  356. about the Lord Jesus Christ.

  357. Remember, my friends,

  358. that Muslims

  359. who visit your church

  360. or even those

  361. that you know

  362. in your neighborhood,

  363. for them,

  364. you may be

  365. the very person

  366. who God used

  367. to begin

  368. their questioning

  369. about

  370. who is this

  371. Jesus

  372. that God

  373. can use you.

  374. See, my friends,

  375. evangelism

  376. is always done

  377. in relationship.

  378. It's also done

  379. in community.

  380. The community

  381. of God's people.

  382. God uses

  383. his people

  384. of the church

  385. as a witness

  386. to the truth

  387. of the Christian faith.

  388. See, mostly,

  389. whether you think

  390. so or not,

  391. Muslims are watching you.

  392. They're watching me.

  393. They're listening.

  394. Who are you?

  395. How do you act?

  396. What do you say?

  397. How do you treat

  398. your children?

  399. How do you work?

  400. They're watching you.

  401. Whether you think

  402. so or not,

  403. they are watching you.

  404. May God

  405. bless us

  406. and sharing

  407. with words

  408. and with our life

  409. the goodness

  410. of Jesus.

  411. I'm going to do

  412. one more testimony.

  413. We've got a few

  414. more minutes

  415. and then we'll

  416. end with that.

  417. There was a lady

  418. from Iran

  419. who visited

  420. our church.

  421. She came

  422. to the church

  423. to know more

  424. about British

  425. culture

  426. since she was

  427. now a student

  428. in the UK.

  429. In other words,

  430. she's in Britain.

  431. I'm from Iran.

  432. I know nothing

  433. about Britain.

  434. I've got a little

  435. church to find out

  436. about British culture.

  437. That's why she came.

  438. She even told us

  439. that's why she came.

  440. Okay?

  441. A couple of ladies

  442. met her

  443. and started chatting

  444. with her.

  445. She did not live

  446. far from the church

  447. so one of the women

  448. met with her again

  449. and asked her

  450. if she would like

  451. to read

  452. some of the Bible

  453. stories about Jesus.

  454. Now this woman

  455. from Iran

  456. said yes.

  457. And so when she

  458. met with one

  459. of these women

  460. she brought

  461. a list of

  462. questions to

  463. ask her.

  464. These questions

  465. had come from

  466. what she had

  467. learned about

  468. Christianity

  469. when she was

  470. in Iran

  471. from Muslim

  472. sources.

  473. The first question

  474. was

  475. did Jesus

  476. preach

  477. when he was

  478. a newborn

  479. baby?

  480. That sounds

  481. bizarre to you

  482. but in the

  483. Quran

  484. immediately

  485. after Jesus

  486. was born

  487. he started

  488. preaching.

  489. and this lady

  490. said

  491. it didn't

  492. happen.

  493. And so she

  494. said

  495. what do you

  496. mean it

  497. didn't

  498. happen?

  499. But then

  500. this lady

  501. said

  502. I'm only

  503. going to

  504. tell you

  505. what God's

  506. word says

  507. and nothing

  508. else.

  509. And the woman

  510. was impressed

  511. by that.

  512. What does

  513. God's word

  514. say?

  515. She's okay

  516. just tell me

  517. that.

  518. And she

  519. was pleased

  520. with that.

  521. But her

  522. next question

  523. was how

  524. can Jesus

  525. be the

  526. son of

  527. God?

  528. How can

  529. God have

  530. children?

  531. She didn't

  532. understand all

  533. about Jesus

  534. being the

  535. son of

  536. God.

  537. Well they

  538. talked about

  539. that issue

  540. a little bit

  541. but mainly

  542. they started

  543. reading through

  544. the gospel

  545. of Mark.

  546. And she

  547. was amazed

  548. at what

  549. Jesus said

  550. and did.

  551. Remember

  552. she never

  553. read the

  554. gospel.

  555. Almost

  556. 99% of

  557. the Muslims

  558. have never

  559. read the

  560. gospels.

  561. They have

  562. no idea

  563. again who

  564. Jesus is.

  565. She started

  566. reading the

  567. gospels and

  568. her impression

  569. was wow

  570. Jesus is

  571. different.

  572. Yes

  573. Jesus is

  574. different.

  575. How can

  576. you not

  577. see that

  578. reading the

  579. gospels?

  580. And her

  581. heart began

  582. to change.

  583. And what

  584. made the

  585. biggest change

  586. for her

  587. she saw

  588. how Jesus

  589. cared for

  590. women.

  591. She says

  592. I have

  593. never heard

  594. anything like

  595. this before

  596. in my life.

  597. She says

  598. I want to

  599. know who

  600. this Jesus

  601. is.

  602. Isn't that

  603. good?

  604. Isn't

  605. that great?

  606. So one

  607. night

  608. our church

  609. there was

  610. a baptism

  611. of a

  612. young

  613. lady

  614. and

  615. after the

  616. baptism

  617. the lady

  618. from Iran

  619. said that

  620. she wanted

  621. to be

  622. baptized.

  623. She said

  624. well you

  625. need to

  626. believe in

  627. Jesus to

  628. be baptized.

  629. She says

  630. I want to

  631. be a

  632. father with

  633. Jesus.

  634. So she

  635. prayed to

  636. receive

  637. Christ

  638. and then

  639. she was

  640. discipled

  641. for a

  642. while and

  643. then she

  644. was baptized

  645. at a

  646. later date

  647. and she's

  648. now still

  649. following the

  650. Lord Jesus

  651. Christ.

  652. See

  653. God did a

  654. great work

  655. in her

  656. life.

  657. She may

  658. have come

  659. to church

  660. for the

  661. wrong

  662. reason

  663. but God

  664. changed her

  665. heart.

  666. And also

  667. these two

  668. Christian

  669. ladies loved

  670. her enough

  671. to talk

  672. with her

  673. about the

  674. Lord Jesus.

  675. she was

  676. amazed at

  677. how much

  678. Jesus cared

  679. and loved

  680. others

  681. especially

  682. women as

  683. I said.

  684. She came

  685. to see her

  686. own sin

  687. and her

  688. need of

  689. a savior.

  690. And throughout

  691. this entire

  692. time many

  693. many people

  694. were praying

  695. for her

  696. in the

  697. church.

  698. And God

  699. opened her

  700. heart and

  701. she is now

  702. a follower

  703. of Jesus.

  704. Wish you

  705. could meet

  706. her one

  707. day.

  708. See both

  709. of these

  710. testimonies

  711. began with

  712. God moving

  713. them

  714. toward a

  715. location

  716. where

  717. Christians

  718. were

  719. present.

  720. Now it

  721. also means

  722. that God

  723. moves us

  724. toward a

  725. location

  726. where

  727. most of

  728. them

  729. are

  730. located.

  731. But in

  732. these

  733. testimonies

  734. they came

  735. and met

  736. Christians.

  737. They saw,

  738. they listened,

  739. and God

  740. used that

  741. to convince

  742. them there's

  743. something

  744. different

  745. about the

  746. Christians

  747. which led

  748. them to

  749. think about

  750. why are

  751. they different

  752. and that

  753. difference

  754. is Jesus.

  755. And so

  756. we all

  757. need to

  758. have a

  759. philosophy

  760. of ministry.

  761. Like I

  762. have a

  763. philosophy

  764. of ministry.

  765. Here's what

  766. I do.

  767. This is what

  768. I keep

  769. in my

  770. head and

  771. hopefully in

  772. my heart

  773. is that I

  774. want to

  775. listen well,

  776. I want to

  777. love well,

  778. and speak

  779. well,

  780. and pray

  781. well.

  782. That's what,

  783. that's my

  784. ministry.

  785. Listen,

  786. love,

  787. speak,

  788. and pray.

  789. And you

  790. can do

  791. that.

  792. That's

  793. what God

  794. has called

  795. you to

  796. do.

  797. Well,

  798. we're not

  799. going to

  800. have time

  801. to look

  802. at those.

  803. I want

  804. to look

  805. at one

  806. more thing

  807. in Matthew

  808. 9,

  809. before we

  810. end.

  811. Jesus

  812. says in

  813. Matthew

  814. 9,

  815. he says,

  816. Jesus went

  817. throughout all

  818. the cities

  819. and villages

  820. teaching in

  821. their synagogues

  822. and proclaiming

  823. the gospel

  824. of the kingdom

  825. and healing

  826. every disease

  827. and every

  828. affliction.

  829. When he

  830. saw the

  831. crowds

  832. he had

  833. compassion

  834. for them

  835. because they

  836. are harassed

  837. and helpless

  838. like sheep

  839. without a

  840. shepherd.

  841. And I

  842. love this,

  843. that Jesus

  844. is walking

  845. around and

  846. he's looking

  847. at people

  848. and we

  849. need to

  850. learn to

  851. look at

  852. people.

  853. Look at

  854. them,

  855. greet them,

  856. see them,

  857. have that

  858. compassion for

  859. them.

  860. They're all

  861. like sheep

  862. without a

  863. shepherd and

  864. they all

  865. have great

  866. needs.

  867. Everyone

  868. struggles

  869. with fear,

  870. guilt,

  871. and shame

  872. and they

  873. keep it in

  874. themselves

  875. and they

  876. don't say

  877. a word.

  878. But once

  879. you start

  880. getting to

  881. know a

  882. Muslim and

  883. sitting down

  884. with them

  885. developing a

  886. relationship,

  887. things start

  888. coming out of

  889. their heart,

  890. they'll start

  891. talking.

  892. They're all

  893. hurting,

  894. just like you

  895. and me.

  896. They want

  897. somebody who

  898. will listen

  899. to them and

  900. of course share

  901. with them about

  902. how they can

  903. have peace

  904. with God.

  905. Now,

  906. I'm going to

  907. close reading

  908. from this book.

  909. It's a

  910. testimony of a

  911. Christian.

  912. It's an

  913. amazing

  914. testimony.

  915. Listen

  916. carefully

  917. to what he

  918. says.

  919. And then

  920. see how

  921. God

  922. says your

  923. heart.

  924. He says

  925. the

  926. Reverend

  927. Subrani,

  928. he was in

  929. Holland.

  930. And while

  931. he was in

  932. Holland,

  933. he,

  934. after

  935. Theo van

  936. Goh,

  937. was murdered,

  938. all these

  939. mosques,

  940. this is back

  941. in 2004,

  942. and all

  943. these mosques

  944. and churches

  945. even were

  946. being burned

  947. down.

  948. I mean,

  949. Muslims were

  950. being attacked.

  951. The thing

  952. was,

  953. this pastor

  954. cared nothing

  955. for Islam.

  956. He didn't

  957. like Muslims.

  958. He didn't

  959. care anything

  960. about Islam

  961. at all.

  962. And it

  963. says,

  964. he's a very

  965. conservative

  966. Christian.

  967. Pastor

  968. Subrani

  969. firmly

  970. insisted that

  971. Jesus is

  972. the only

  973. way,

  974. the only

  975. truth,

  976. and the

  977. only life

  978. worth having.

  979. He

  980. insisted that

  981. Islam was

  982. a false

  983. religion,

  984. and he

  985. called Allah

  986. a desert

  987. demon spirit.

  988. For peace

  989. sakes,

  990. what's he

  991. doing?

  992. But that's

  993. what he's

  994. saying there.

  995. Well,

  996. who is this

  997. guy?

  998. But then

  999. something

  1000. happened.

  1001. Sobrani

  1002. stood up

  1003. and walked

  1004. to his

  1005. neighborhood

  1006. mosque.

  1007. He knocked

  1008. firmly on

  1009. the door

  1010. and to the

  1011. shock of the

  1012. Muslims

  1013. huddled

  1014. inside,

  1015. he declared

  1016. that he

  1017. would stand

  1018. guard outside

  1019. the mosque

  1020. every night

  1021. until the

  1022. Dutch

  1023. attacks

  1024. stopped.

  1025. But why?

  1026. Why was he

  1027. doing this?

  1028. He hated

  1029. his slum.

  1030. What possible

  1031. reason would

  1032. this conservative

  1033. Christian give

  1034. to explain

  1035. his actions?

  1036. What could

  1037. have motivated

  1038. him of all

  1039. people to

  1040. do this?

  1041. He showed

  1042. no appreciation

  1043. for Islamic

  1044. culture,

  1045. clothing,

  1046. or food.

  1047. He recounted

  1048. no stories

  1049. of past

  1050. friendships

  1051. or dialogue

  1052. with Muslims.

  1053. He couldn't

  1054. care less

  1055. about Muslims

  1056. you think

  1057. by reading

  1058. this.

  1059. But listen

  1060. to what

  1061. happened

  1062. to his

  1063. heart.

  1064. When I

  1065. pressed him

  1066. to explain

  1067. his actions

  1068. to give

  1069. some account

  1070. why he

  1071. would defend

  1072. a religion

  1073. he so deeply

  1074. disliked,

  1075. here is what

  1076. he said.

  1077. Jesus,

  1078. Jesus commanded

  1079. me to love

  1080. my neighbor

  1081. and to love

  1082. my enemy

  1083. too.

  1084. That's why

  1085. I do it.

  1086. Why?

  1087. To love

  1088. your neighbor

  1089. and to love

  1090. your enemy.

  1091. That's what

  1092. we as the

  1093. church are

  1094. called to do.

  1095. Let's pray.
