  1. Amen.

  2. Do you be seated?

  3. And turn, if you will, to Matthew chapter 24.

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  4. ! Matthew chapter 24.

    Matthew 24 chapter mention

  5. It should have been Glenn Scrivener

  6. ! preaching this morning. I was really looking forward

  7. ! to hearing him, as you were.

  8. But he is

  9. self-isolating in Eastbourne.

  10. And I have said, if anyone

  11. sees him out and about in Eastbourne,

  12. call me.

  13. So, I know

  14. you were probably looking forward to a break.

  15. And so was I. I just

  16. want to speak a little bit about communion

  17. for a moment. You'll see that,

  18. as Adrian said earlier, we're going to be doing it

  19. a little bit differently.

  20. After the hymn,

  21. after the sermon, there will be hand sanitizer

  22. that's going around. Great if you could use that.

  23. That is not baptism.

  24. All right.

  25. But please do that.

  26. We're going to be using little cups

  27. just during this period.

  28. There will be some of you here

  29. that just feel that you don't want to take communion

  30. today, and that's really fine.

  31. You shouldn't feel any pressure

  32. towards

  33. that at all.

  34. And I think the servers will go

  35. up and down the rows,

  36. and so you will be served.

  37. Have I got that right?

  38. Okay.

  39. So we don't need to talk about that later.

  40. You know what's happening.

  41. Let's bow our heads in prayer.

  42. Heavenly Father,

  43. we praise you

  44. because your Son,

  45. the Lord Jesus Christ,

  46. is the everlasting King.

  47. We praise you, Jesus,

  48. that you left the glory

  49. of heaven

  50. to come and live on this earth,

  51. to die on the cross,

  52. and to bear our sin,

  53. and to rise from the dead.

  54. And we praise you

  55. that by your Holy Spirit

  56. you are with us even today.

  57. We praise you

  58. that one day

  59. you are coming back again.

  60. One day every single one of us

  61. will face you,

  62. and we will have to give

  63. an account of our lives to you.

  64. And so we pray

  65. that you would help us

  66. to be ready for that day,

  67. to be active

  68. in your service

  69. whenever that moment comes.

  70. And please speak to us,

  71. help us to heed your voice,

  72. and to respond to your love

  73. for your namesake.

  74. Amen.

  75. We don't really draw the crowds,

  76. do we?

  77. Christianity

  78. doesn't dominate the media.

  79. In this week,

  80. Christianity has not

  81. united and motivated the nation.

  82. Most people think that

  83. church this morning

  84. is irrelevant.

  85. Some might even think

  86. it's dangerous.

  87. And we've seen this week,

  88. haven't we,

  89. in the media,

  90. no one has really cared

  91. for the opinion

  92. of church leaders.

  93. And consequently,

  94. we live in a pretty apathetic

  95. and a pretty cynical culture.

  96. And so the question is,

  97. where is God today?

  98. Where is God

  99. in this world of suffering?

  100. And why bother with God?

  101. people are indifferent,

  102. aren't they?

  103. However,

  104. in the last week,

  105. last 10 days,

  106. people have become,

  107. again,

  108. once again,

  109. aware of their fragility

  110. and their frailty.

  111. That we're not totally

  112. in control.

  113. And life is

  114. brief,

  115. isn't it?

  116. Fragile.

  117. Hence the panic.

  118. Macbeth,

  119. reflecting on the brevity

  120. of life,

  121. he once said this,

  122. tomorrow and tomorrow

  123. and tomorrow

  124. creeps in this petty pace

  125. from day to day

  126. to the last syllable

  127. of recorded time.

  128. And all our yesterdays

  129. have lighted fools

  130. the way to dusty death.

  131. Out,

  132. out,

  133. brief candle.

  134. Tomorrow

  135. and tomorrow

  136. and tomorrow.

  137. And this morning,

  138. I want us to look

  139. briefly and I hope simply

  140. and I hope clearly

  141. at the world's tomorrow,

  142. God's tomorrow

  143. and our tomorrow.

  144. And I hope to finish today.

  145. First of all,

  146. the world's tomorrow.

  147. What is the world's tomorrow?

  148. What is it?

  149. I wonder if I asked that question

  150. what you'd shout back at me.

  151. I think you'd probably

  152. shout back uncertain.

  153. Now this chapter,

  154. 24,

  155. it's not really an exposition

  156. this morning

  157. but we're going to take

  158. some thoughts here

  159. from Matthew 24.

  160. It begins with disciples

  161. looking at the stones,

  162. doesn't it,

  163. in the glorious temple

  164. of Jerusalem

  165. and how wonderful

  166. those stones are.

  167. And Jesus says

  168. to his disciples,

  169. as great as this building is,

  170. there won't be one stone

  171. left upon another

  172. that will not be thrown down.

  173. It's precarious even then,

  174. the world's tomorrow.

  175. And they ask him,

  176. when will this be?

  177. What will be the sign

  178. that it's about to happen?

  179. That the temple in Jerusalem

  180. will fall

  181. and what will be the sign

  182. of your coming

  183. at the close of the age?

  184. The chapter's divided

  185. into those two halves.

  186. The first half about

  187. the destruction of Jerusalem

  188. and the second half

  189. about when Jesus

  190. will come again.

  191. And Jesus goes on

  192. to stress

  193. the danger

  194. of the world's tomorrows.

  195. He speaks of wars

  196. and rumors of wars.

  197. He speaks of nations

  198. rising up against nations,

  199. of kingdoms

  200. turning against kingdoms.

  201. He says there'll be famines

  202. and earthquakes

  203. in various places

  204. and so on.

  205. And they were signs

  206. for that generation

  207. that was listening to him.

  208. And today,

  209. we know, don't we,

  210. that in our society

  211. it's equally uncertain.

  212. Isn't that one of the issues?

  213. The uncertainty of tomorrow?

  214. We just don't know,

  215. do we?

  216. We genuinely

  217. just don't know.

  218. It's unpredictable.

  219. The writer of the Proverbs

  220. says,

  221. boast not of tomorrow

  222. because you do not know

  223. what a day will bring forth.

  224. The Apostle Peter says

  225. in 2 Peter 3,

  226. the day of the Lord

  227. will come

  228. as unexpectedly

  229. as a thief.

  230. Then the heavens

  231. will pass away

  232. with a terrible noise

  233. and heavenly bodies

  234. will disappear in fire

  235. and the earth

  236. and everything in it

  237. will be burnt up.

  238. It's a terrifying,

  239. striking phrase.

  240. Jesus speaks here,

  241. doesn't he,

  242. in verse 29.

  243. He speaks of the sun

  244. being darkened,

  245. of the moon

  246. not giving its light,

  247. stars falling from heaven,

  248. powers of heaven

  249. shaking.

  250. It's picture language.

  251. It's apocalyptic.

  252. It's cataclysmic.

  253. And the world's tomorrow

  254. is uncertain

  255. and frankly pretty bleak.

  256. I think I need to say this,

  257. that is as true

  258. today

  259. as it was

  260. six months ago

  261. or even

  262. six years ago

  263. before any of us

  264. had heard of Brexit

  265. or coronavirus.

  266. That is the nature

  267. of life.

  268. It's just that we've become,

  269. haven't we,

  270. in the last week or so

  271. more painfully aware

  272. of the frailty

  273. and fragility of it.

  274. It's always been the same.

  275. You've just woken up to it.

  276. The uncertainty

  277. of man's tomorrow.

  278. Secondly,

  279. what about God's tomorrow?

  280. What about God's tomorrow?

  281. The Bible says

  282. that when it comes

  283. to closing time,

  284. it will emphatically

  285. be the Lord's time,

  286. the Lord's day,

  287. the day of the Lord.

  288. There's no uncertainty

  289. about God's tomorrow.

  290. It will be

  291. the day of the Lord.

  292. He is the one

  293. who's got the whole world

  294. in His hands,

  295. including our very breath

  296. and our health.

  297. He is the one

  298. who is sovereign,

  299. who controls everything.

  300. In Him,

  301. we live

  302. and move

  303. and have our being.

  304. And nothing

  305. that has happened

  306. last week

  307. and nothing

  308. that will happen

  309. this week

  310. is outside

  311. of His sovereign control.

  312. And the message

  313. to those

  314. first century Christians,

  315. those persecuted Christians

  316. in the first century,

  317. do you remember?

  318. When John writes to them

  319. in the book of Revelation,

  320. it can be summed up

  321. in one sentence.

  322. The Lord reigns.

  323. The Lord reigns.

  324. The Lord is finally

  325. and ultimately

  326. on the throne

  327. of the universe.

  328. The Lord is in total

  329. and utter control.

  330. control.

  331. The government

  332. is on the shoulders

  333. of the Lord Jesus Christ.

  334. That's the message

  335. of the final book

  336. of the Bible.

  337. And in Matthew 24,

  338. Jesus spells out

  339. two great truths

  340. about God's tomorrow.

  341. That certain tomorrow

  342. that you and I

  343. will face.

  344. And these truths

  345. apply equally

  346. to Christ's return

  347. or, well,

  348. to your death,

  349. whichever comes sooner.

  350. The first is this.

  351. It will be unexpected.

  352. Look at verse 36 with me.

  353. Look at verse 36.

  354. But concerning

  355. that day

  356. and hour,

  357. no one knows.

  358. Not even the angels

  359. in heaven,

  360. nor the Son,

  361. but the Father only.

  362. No one knows.

  363. About 175 years ago,

  364. a Roman Catholic

  365. priest wrote a book

  366. predicting that the world

  367. would end in 1847.

  368. He asked the Roman

  369. Catholic Church,

  370. he asked his church's authority,

  371. could he have permission

  372. to print the book?

  373. To publish this book

  374. that predicted

  375. that the world

  376. would end in 1847.

  377. And the Roman Catholic Church

  378. said, yes,

  379. you should feel free

  380. to print the book

  381. in 1848.

  382. And that's very wise,

  383. isn't it?

  384. Very wise pastoral advice

  385. and guidance

  386. because nobody knows.

  387. Nobody knows

  388. the day or the hour

  389. when Christ is going to return.

  390. The coming of Christ,

  391. it's described as

  392. a thief in the night.

  393. If you've ever been burgled,

  394. it's a horrible thing,

  395. isn't it?

  396. But the thief

  397. didn't send a postcard

  398. the week before

  399. and say,

  400. dear sir or madam,

  401. I plan to burgle you

  402. 3.45 next Wednesday

  403. afternoon.

  404. You're sincerely the burglar.

  405. He didn't do that,

  406. did he?

  407. He didn't leave a voicemail

  408. just to say,

  409. just so you know,

  410. I'm planning to burgle

  411. the house this evening.

  412. Of course he didn't.

  413. They don't do that.

  414. If you've been burgled,

  415. what is it?

  416. It's the sense of shock,

  417. isn't it,

  418. when you walk in.

  419. That sense of utter surprise

  420. that somebody's invaded

  421. your house

  422. and turned out your drawers,

  423. it's created chaos

  424. and it's always

  425. a total surprise

  426. and Jesus picks up

  427. that analogy.

  428. And he says,

  429. if the householder

  430. had known what time

  431. of the night

  432. the thief was coming,

  433. well he would have watched.

  434. He'd been waiting

  435. at the bottom of the stairs

  436. with a baseball bat,

  437. wouldn't he?

  438. He'd have not let his house

  439. be broken into.

  440. And he says,

  441. therefore you,

  442. you also must be ready

  443. because the Son of Man

  444. is coming at an hour

  445. you do not expect.

  446. And if you ever

  447. lock your flat

  448. or your home

  449. so as to be ready

  450. for a possible thief

  451. and who doesn't,

  452. how much more important

  453. is it

  454. to be ready

  455. for the certain coming

  456. of the Lord?

  457. Unexpected.

  458. The second great truth

  459. about God's tomorrow

  460. is that it's unwanted.

  461. It's unexpected

  462. and it's unwanted.

  463. And it's unwanted

  464. tragically

  465. because so many

  466. are not ready

  467. to meet Jesus Christ.

  468. Jesus gives two illustrations

  469. to emphasize this.

  470. He talks about Noah

  471. in verses 37

  472. and 38.

  473. He says this,

  474. for as were the days

  475. of Noah

  476. so will be the coming

  477. of the Son of Man.

  478. For as in those days

  479. before the flood

  480. they were eating

  481. and drinking

  482. it's a good thing.

  483. Marrying

  484. it's a good thing.

  485. Giving in marriage

  486. it's a good thing.

  487. Until the day

  488. when Noah

  489. entered the ark.

  490. And they were unaware

  491. until the flood came

  492. and swept them

  493. all away

  494. and so it will be

  495. in the coming

  496. of the Son of Man.

  497. There were things

  498. that they were

  499. preoccupied with.

  500. They're not necessarily

  501. bad things at all

  502. but just with things

  503. eating

  504. and drinking

  505. marrying

  506. giving in marriage

  507. but do you notice

  508. who they're not

  509. preoccupied with?

  510. Do you notice

  511. who doesn't occupy

  512. their thoughts?

  513. They're not

  514. preoccupied with God.

  515. And when Jesus

  516. said they didn't

  517. know until the flood

  518. came and swept

  519. them away

  520. there was a sense

  521. in which they did

  522. know.

  523. Because do you

  524. remember what is

  525. Noah?

  526. Noah was a preacher

  527. of righteousness.

  528. And that ark

  529. was like a great

  530. visual aid

  531. a great sermon

  532. and Noah was

  533. consistently preaching

  534. for 120 years

  535. about the coming

  536. of the Lord.

  537. But no one

  538. listened

  539. and no one

  540. bothered.

  541. And they couldn't

  542. be bothered

  543. with God.

  544. And they couldn't

  545. be bothered

  546. with God's

  547. word.

  548. And so they

  549. didn't know

  550. until it

  551. happened.

  552. Isn't that

  553. equally true

  554. of our society

  555. today?

  556. So people

  557. say we

  558. can't possibly

  559. know about

  560. tomorrow.

  561. So let's

  562. enjoy ourselves

  563. today.

  564. we entertain

  565. ourselves to

  566. death.

  567. We entertain

  568. ourselves to

  569. death because

  570. people are not

  571. bothered about

  572. God or his

  573. word.

  574. Eat, drink,

  575. and be merry.

  576. Or eat, drink,

  577. and watch

  578. telly.

  579. For tomorrow

  580. we die.

  581. Perhaps we do

  582. die.

  583. But tomorrow

  584. never comes.

  585. And so your

  586. friends and my

  587. friends are

  588. occupied with

  589. everything, aren't

  590. they, at the

  591. moment except

  592. God.

  593. And

  594. indifference to

  595. God and

  596. his word.

  597. What's the

  598. first and

  599. greatest commandment?

  600. You know it,

  601. don't you?

  602. What should be the

  603. greatest priority in

  604. our lives?

  605. Jesus says it's to

  606. love the Lord your

  607. God with all your

  608. heart and mind and

  609. soul and strength,

  610. everything that you

  611. are.

  612. In other words,

  613. to put God at the

  614. center of our

  615. lives where he

  616. ought to be and

  617. where he demands

  618. to be.

  619. God.

  620. The trouble is, if

  621. we believe in

  622. God at all, we

  623. so often tend to

  624. assume, don't we,

  625. that we are the

  626. center of our

  627. world.

  628. And if God

  629. exists, well he's

  630. somewhere out there,

  631. up in space, and

  632. occasionally I call

  633. him in from time to

  634. time to clear up the

  635. mess that I've got

  636. myself into.

  637. I'm the center of my

  638. world, God is there

  639. up there, and if I

  640. need him I call and

  641. the servant comes

  642. rushing in and

  643. helps me out.

  644. And without

  645. realizing I treat

  646. almighty God like a

  647. servant who comes

  648. in and clears out

  649. the mess and then

  650. we let him go

  651. again.

  652. Because it's not

  653. convenient to have

  654. God around any

  655. longer.

  656. But you see, the

  657. truth this morning is

  658. God is not a

  659. servant.

  660. He is Lord.

  661. He is the Lord.

  662. And we are not at

  663. the center of the

  664. universe because God

  665. is.

  666. And the question this

  667. morning is not why

  668. should you bother with

  669. God, but why should

  670. God bother with you?

  671. Why should God bother

  672. with me when I've

  673. turned my back on him

  674. and I've rebelled

  675. against him and I've

  676. done my own thing?

  677. Why should God bother

  678. with me?

  679. And there is no

  680. answer except that

  681. wonderfully he does.

  682. He does in his

  683. infinite love and his

  684. mercy.

  685. But if then I don't

  686. bother with him or

  687. his word, the Bible

  688. warns me very clearly

  689. that judgment will

  690. come on those who do

  691. not know God.

  692. And who do not obey

  693. the gospel of our

  694. Lord Jesus Christ.

  695. We saw earlier on in

  696. Matthew's gospel that

  697. Jesus will have to say

  698. to many people,

  699. depart from me because

  700. I don't know who you

  701. are.

  702. And Jesus takes the

  703. example of Noah, but

  704. he also takes the

  705. example of daily work.

  706. So look at verse 40.

  707. Again, it's dramatic.

  708. It's picture language.

  709. Then two men will be in

  710. the field and one will

  711. be taken and one will

  712. be left.

  713. And two women will be

  714. grinding at the mill and

  715. one will be taken and one

  716. will be left.

  717. And therefore stay awake

  718. for you do not know on

  719. what day your Lord is

  720. coming.

  721. Amen.

  722. One is taken to be with

  723. Jesus, to be with him

  724. forever in heaven.

  725. The other is left for

  726. judgment.

  727. Two men grinding at the

  728. mill, one taken to be

  729. with Jesus, one left.

  730. Two men in the same

  731. business, one taken, one

  732. left.

  733. Two people working in the

  734. same office, one taken,

  735. one left.

  736. Two people in the same

  737. house.

  738. Now I'm going to speak

  739. again about why I don't

  740. believe this kind of

  741. people kind of zoomed up

  742. and rapture.

  743. Rapture, I don't believe

  744. that.

  745. I don't think that's what

  746. Jesus is teaching here.

  747. Jesus is making a point

  748. and he's making a point

  749. about separation.

  750. That's his big point.

  751. Jesus says, watch

  752. therefore because you do

  753. not know on what day

  754. your Lord is coming.

  755. There is nothing,

  756. nothing uncertain about

  757. the Lord's coming.

  758. There's nothing uncertain

  759. about God's tomorrow.

  760. And although from our

  761. point it will be

  762. unexpected and tragically

  763. it may be unwanted by

  764. many.

  765. But what about our

  766. tomorrow?

  767. That's my third point.

  768. What about our tomorrow?

  769. What about your tomorrow?

  770. John Betjeman was a poet,

  771. writer and a broadcaster.

  772. He died in 1984.

  773. And he wrote this really

  774. interesting poem,

  775. Before the Anesthetic,

  776. it's called, or a real

  777. fright.

  778. And in this poem,

  779. John Betjeman imagines

  780. that he's lying in a

  781. hospital bed in Oxford

  782. before an operation.

  783. And he's listening to the

  784. tolling of St.

  785. Giles' bells.

  786. And this is what he writes.

  787. Intolerably sad,

  788. profound.

  789. St.

  790. Giles' bells are ringing

  791. round.

  792. Swing up and give me the

  793. hope of life.

  794. Swing down and plunge

  795. the surgeon's knife.

  796. I, breathing for a

  797. moment, see death wing

  798. himself away from me.

  799. And think as on this

  800. bed I lie.

  801. Is it extinction when I

  802. die?

  803. St.

  804. Giles' bells are asking

  805. now.

  806. And hast thou known the

  807. Lord?

  808. Hast thou?

  809. St.

  810. Giles' bells, they

  811. richly ring.

  812. And was that Lord our

  813. Christ and King?

  814. St.

  815. Giles' bell, they hear me

  816. call.

  817. I never knew the Lord at

  818. all.

  819. Now lest this I should cease

  820. to be.

  821. Come, real Lord.

  822. Come quick to me.

  823. There are two

  824. appointments that the

  825. Bible teaches that you

  826. and I must keep.

  827. And you can't put either

  828. of them in your diary or

  829. your Google calendar.

  830. The first is death and the

  831. second is judgment.

  832. The first is death and the

  833. second is judgment after

  834. death.

  835. Two future

  836. certainties.

  837. The Bible teaches it's

  838. appointed for man once to

  839. die and after death

  840. comes the judgment.

  841. Are you ready for that

  842. day?

  843. I can think of

  844. illustrations.

  845. I can tell you of people

  846. who have been taken so

  847. suddenly.

  848. But you don't need those

  849. illustrations this week, do

  850. you?

  851. Not one of us can boast

  852. about tomorrow.

  853. Have you faced this

  854. fact?

  855. It shouldn't be such a

  856. surprise, should it?

  857. But we all know that in

  858. one sense we are dying.

  859. We know that.

  860. Nobody knows whether it

  861. will be a matter of days

  862. or weeks or months or

  863. years or decades.

  864. Whatever it is.

  865. But I want to say to you

  866. this morning that the

  867. Bible holds out to you

  868. this absolute certainty

  869. of knowing the Lord.

  870. God.

  871. And so whatever the future

  872. holds, none of us

  873. here today know what the

  874. future is going to hold.

  875. But we can know

  876. that with the Lord the

  877. best is yet to be.

  878. You cannot lose

  879. once you've lost your life

  880. to Jesus.

  881. But unless you've done

  882. that, you stand to lose

  883. absolutely everything.

  884. And so I'd like to ask

  885. you, where do you stand

  886. in your relationship with

  887. God?

  888. What about your

  889. tomorrow?

  890. Do you know the Lord?

  891. Is he real in your life?

  892. Have you got that absolute

  893. peace deep within your heart

  894. that come what may, the

  895. best is yet to be.

  896. The world's tomorrow is

  897. totally uncertain.

  898. God's tomorrow is totally

  899. clear.

  900. But one day you and I are

  901. going to meet with him.

  902. But what about our

  903. tomorrow?

  904. What about your

  905. tomorrow?

  906. And of course, in one

  907. sense, what happens about

  908. your tomorrow depends

  909. entirely on your response

  910. to Jesus Christ today.

  911. What do I mean about

  912. this response?

  913. It can be a cliche,

  914. can't it, that

  915. preachers use.

  916. But let me summarize it

  917. in two words.

  918. The first word is

  919. repent.

  920. The second word is

  921. receive.

  922. And if I want to be

  923. sure that I know

  924. Jesus Christ, there are

  925. two things that I must

  926. do.

  927. And the first is to

  928. repent.

  929. It's an about turn.

  930. It's a U-turn.

  931. That instead of going

  932. through life my way

  933. and doing my own

  934. thing, I've got to be

  935. willing to let go of

  936. whatever is wrong in my

  937. life.

  938. And with God's help,

  939. and only with God's help,

  940. to turn right around

  941. and to give my life to the

  942. Lord Jesus as my Savior

  943. who has died for me on the

  944. cross and is my Lord and

  945. my King over all.

  946. And then receive.

  947. That we're ready to turn

  948. from what is wrong and put

  949. our lives lock, stock and

  950. barrel into the hands of

  951. Jesus.

  952. And we can receive Jesus or

  953. the Spirit of the Lord

  954. Jesus to come into our

  955. lives and he will be with

  956. us day and night.

  957. He is there when the sun

  958. is shining.

  959. He is there when it's as

  960. dark as can be.

  961. He is there in our

  962. tomorrow, whatever our

  963. tomorrow holds.

  964. And one day when we walk

  965. through the shadow of the

  966. valley of death, he will be

  967. with us.

  968. And so we won't fear evil.

  969. Have you got that assurance

  970. today?

  971. And for those of you who

  972. would say no or I'm just

  973. not sure, you need to be

  974. willing to turn around and

  975. to let go of what you know

  976. is wrong and rebelling

  977. against him and ask the

  978. Lord Jesus Christ into your

  979. life.

  980. And I know that at the

  981. moment some of you will be

  982. experiencing tug of war.

  983. There's a part of us that

  984. wants to do that, isn't

  985. there?

  986. And there's a part of us

  987. that really doesn't want to

  988. do that because we want to be

  989. in charge and we don't want

  990. the Lord Jesus to be in

  991. charge.

  992. And I know that struggle.

  993. I felt that struggle.

  994. But how is it working out?

  995. How is it working out with

  996. you as Lord of your life,

  997. running it as you want and

  998. calling God in just very

  999. occasionally?

1000. How is that working out for

  1001. you?

1002. You've got no answer, have

  1003. you?

1004. But if you will give in to

1005. God this morning, if you

1006. will repent, if you will

  1007. turn from your wickedness

  1008. and receive wonderful life

1009. in Christ, you can have

  1010. hope, you can have

  1011. certainty, you can have

  1012. confidence.

  1013. Let's pray.

  1014. Let's pray.

1015. Father, we know that we have

  1016. sinned.

1017. And we know that we need

  1018. your forgiveness.

1019. We thank you for your son,

1020. the Lord Jesus, dying on the

1021. cross for sinners such as

  1022. us.

1023. We pray that by your Holy

1024. Spirit, you would give us the

1025. help to turn away from all

1026. that is wrong in our lives

1027. and to go with you.

1028. We ask that you would come

1029. into our lives, that you

1030. would be our saviour, that you

  1031. would be our Lord.

1032. Come in by your spirit to be

  1033. with us always.

1034. We thank you for these

  1035. wonderful promises.

1036. Keep us from a wrong fear, we

  1037. ask.

  1038. In Jesus' name.

  1039. Amen.

1040. We're going to sing before we

  1041. come.
