  1. We'll do turn to Matthew 5.

  2. I was driving this week and I heard the advert for Vitality Insurance. I don't know if you've seen it.

  3. ! It's not what do you want for your children? It's a really interesting question.

  4. What do you want for your children?

  5. And there were different responses, but it boiled down to health, happiness and security.

  6. Three things that you can't guarantee, nobody can guarantee that they can give to your children apart from Vitality Insurance.

  7. But it's really interesting, isn't it, that that is happiness still, the pursuit of happiness.

  8. It's still such a big thing.

  9. You want to be happy.

  10. And our world is searching for happiness. It shows itself in different ways, doesn't it?

  11. But happiness, according to the Lord Jesus, as we saw a couple of weeks ago, is found in the kingdom of God.

  12. And that's not escapism.

  13. You know the thought at the moment is that, look, holidays, people thinking holidays is what will make me happy.

  14. Two weeks in the sun, that's what will make me happy.

  15. According to Jesus, happiness is found in the kingdom of God.

  16. I just need to get away from it all.

  17. Christianity is not getting away from it.

  18. By Christianity, one of the things I love about it is utterly realistic.

  19. So look at verse 10.

  20. Jesus says, blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake.

  21. They're not people who are escaping reality, they.

  22. These are people who are facing up to the pressures of life and suffering as a result of it.

  23. Look at verse 4.

  24. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

  25. What I'm trying to do in these series of sermons on the Beatitudes is really try and unpack the Christian life

  26. in the way that Jesus speaks about what true happiness is and what true blessedness is.

  27. That's where we are tonight.

  28. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

  29. Tears are a part of life.

  30. Tears are a part of life.

  31. Tears are a part of life.

  32. It's an Arab proverb and it says this.

  33. All sunshine makes a desert.

  34. All sunshine makes a desert.

  35. To live means there has to be tears and sorrow.

  36. And no one can live going through life without tears.

  37. You can exist, but you can't live without tears.

  38. And I'm not suggesting for one moment that if you come to Jesus Christ, all your troubles go away.

  39. I hope you don't think that.

  40. We don't believe it.

  41. The Bible doesn't teach it.

  42. Jesus does not promise you immunity or exemption in this life from any of life's disappointments

  43. or frustrations or sorrows that are common to everyone.

  44. And yet having said that, even at the natural level, I'm going to argue it pays to be a Christian.

  45. Paul in 1 Thessalonians is dealing with the problem of bereavement in church.

  46. People who are mourning the loss of loved ones.

  47. And in verse 13 of chapter 4, he says,

  48. I don't want you to be uninformed.

  49. I don't want you to be ignorant about those who are asleep.

  50. That you may not grieve as others do who have no hope.

  51. And so there are people out there in that church in Thessalonica

  52. who are going through probably the most life-shattering experiences.

  53. The loss of a loved one.

  54. Bereavement.

  55. And Paul doesn't say to them, oh, you mustn't sorrow.

  56. He doesn't say, oh, you're letting the side down as a Christian by mourning.

  57. He doesn't say, put a smile on your face.

  58. No, he says to them this, you are going to sorrow,

  59. but you are not going to sorrow as others do who have no hope.

  60. And so even at the natural level, it pays to be a Christian.

  61. We who are Christians are not immune to bereavement

  62. or other life-shattering experiences that people go through.

  63. We mourn, yes.

  64. But not as those who have no hope.

  65. And so these words, they make sense for the Christian,

  66. even on the natural level.

  67. They don't make sense for the non-Christian.

  68. I've taken a number of funerals quite recently,

  69. and over all the years I've been taking funerals,

  70. it is very, very difficult to speak to those

  71. who've lost a loved one who is evidently not a Christian.

  72. I've met people who are inconsolable,

  73. and it's been impossible to comfort them.

  74. And so these words are not true generally,

  75. but they are true.

  76. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted,

  77. even on the natural level for the Christian.

  78. Now it seems to me that Jesus is not primarily

  79. or even remotely talking about this kind of thing,

  80. but I thought I needed to deal with it.

  81. That's not his intention.

  82. We need to understand the logic in these verses.

  83. There's a logic in these Beatitudes.

  84. I hope you can see it.

  85. Look at verse 3.

  86. That's where we start.

  87. That's the soil out of which all the other Beatitudes grow.

  88. That's where you begin,

  89. and to be a Christian.

  90. Blessed are the poor in spirit,

  91. for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

  92. That's where we start.

  93. We start there,

  94. with an awareness and an acknowledgement

  95. that we are spiritually bankrupt.

  96. And unless you've been brought there,

  97. you haven't begun as a Christian.

  98. That's where you begin,

  99. and then it will lead on to a mourning

  100. and to a sorrow,

  101. a bewailing of your spiritual poverty.

  102. It's not enough just to be aware of it.

  103. It's not enough to acknowledge it,

  104. as it were theoretically.

  105. If the Spirit of God is at work in your life,

  106. you'll be prepared to admit it

  107. and acknowledge it before God,

  108. and it will shatter you.

  109. It will disturb you.

  110. Literally, the word that Jesus uses here

  111. is the word shatter.

  112. See, if I picked up this glass

  113. and I threw it against this wall,

  114. it would shatter, wouldn't it?

  115. It would splinter everywhere.

  116. And that's exactly what Jesus uses here.

  117. He says,

  118. Blessed are those who are shattered to pieces,

  119. for they shall be comforted.

  120. Blessed is that person who is shattered

  121. because of spiritual poverty.

  122. That's the logic.

  123. That's the progression here.

  124. Blessed are those who are deeply,

  125. inwardly concerned

  126. about their spiritual poverty before God.

  127. Robbie Burns, you know the Scotsman.

  128. He has a poem.

  129. I can't read it in Scotch.

  130. But let me read it to you.

  131. It says this.

  132. Oh, would some power,

  133. the gift to give us,

  134. to see ourselves as others see us.

  135. It would from many a blunder free us

  136. and foolish notion.

  137. Would some power,

  138. the gift to give us,

  139. to see ourselves as others see us.

  140. It can be quite a shattering experience,

  141. can't it?

  142. To see yourself as others see us.

  143. It's like that when I have to listen

  144. to my own sermons.

  145. Occasionally I do that.

  146. It's so painful, isn't it?

  147. You think, do I really sound like that?

  148. You know, you watch a video of yourself

  149. and you're talking in the background

  150. and immediately,

  151. on the video,

  152. as you hear your voice,

  153. you think,

  154. do I really sound like that?

  155. When we see ourselves as others see us,

  156. we're shocked, don't we?

  157. Some of us are at that stage of life,

  158. isn't it,

  159. where we look in the mirror,

  160. we see our father.

  161. So I really look like that.

  162. I showed you when I,

  163. at the time when I was 19,

  164. I was in university,

  165. and we thought we'd play a prank

  166. on this girl,

  167. Sarah Street,

  168. and my friend said,

  169. leave you hide behind the sofa

  170. and when she comes in,

  171. I'll ask you what she thinks of you.

  172. And I hid behind the sofa,

  173. no one knew,

  174. and he asked her

  175. and literally for 20 minutes,

  176. she just let rip about me.

  177. I didn't have the heart to jump up.

  178. It was so,

  179. I didn't,

  180. I let her go out

  181. and then I kind of crawled out.

  182. It was awful.

  183. What she said was true.

  184. What must it be like

  185. to see ourselves

  186. as God sees us?

  187. It's a shattering experience.

  188. It happened to Isaiah.

  189. The preacher Isaiah,

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  190. chapter 6,

  191. he sees the Lord

  192. high and mighty

  193. and he says,

  194. woe is me,

  195. I'm undone,

  196. I'm taken apart,

  197. I'm in pieces.

  198. I'm shattered,

  199. literally,

  200. my eyes have seen the King,

  201. the Lord of hosts,

  202. and I'm a man of unclean lips

  203. and I dwell in the midst

  204. of a people of unclean lips.

  205. Why does he talk like that?

  206. Well,

  207. he's seen himself.

  208. He's seen himself,

  209. not as others see him,

  210. others thought that actually

  211. Isaiah was a very good preacher,

  212. it's very acceptable.

  213. He'd been preaching for many years,

  214. he'd been used by God,

  215. but for the first time

  216. in Isaiah 6,

  217. it seems,

  218. he's in the presence of God

  219. and he sees him

  220. as God sees him

  221. and he says,

  222. I'm a man of unclean lips.

  223. Why does he use that phrase?

  224. He uses that phrase

  225. because he's a preacher,

  226. his lips are the tools

  227. of his trade.

  228. And the lips of Isaiah

  229. represented the very best

  230. of what Isaiah had to offer.

  231. His most consecrated

  232. and devoted service to God

  233. and he thought he was doing

  234. really well as a prophet,

  235. as God's spokesman,

  236. and suddenly he comes

  237. into the very presence of God

  238. and he sees himself

  239. as God sees him

  240. and he realises

  241. the very best part of him

  242. is filthy.

  243. And the best that he's got

  244. to offer

  245. is shot through

  246. with pride

  247. and self-righteousness

  248. and he says,

  249. I'm a man of unclean lips

  250. and I've been found out.

  251. I'm undone,

  252. I'm shattered.

  253. It was Peter's experience.

  254. Do you remember,

  255. Peter really thought

  256. he was quite someone,

  257. didn't he?

  258. He compared himself

  259. with all the other disciples,

  260. we're really prone

  261. to do that,

  262. and he says to Jesus,

  263. even if they all forsake you,

  264. I will never forsake you.

  265. I'll die for you

  266. if necessary.

  267. And you have that passage,

  268. don't you,

  269. where Jesus is arrested

  270. and Peter is confronted

  271. by the servant girl

  272. and by another girl

  273. and then somebody else

  274. and he denies the Lord Jesus

  275. with oaths,

  276. with swear words.

  277. I don't know that,

  278. I don't know the so-and-so.

  279. And with foul oaths,

  280. he curses and he swears

  281. and he denies

  282. he knew anything at all

  283. about Jesus Christ

  284. and he denied his Lord.

  285. Do you know what Luke tells us?

  286. In Luke 22, verse 60,

    Luke 22:60

  287. Peter said,

  288. man,

  289. I do not know

  290. what you're talking about

  291. and immediately

  292. while he was still speaking,

  293. the rooster crowed

  294. and the Lord turned

  295. and looked at Peter.

  296. Matthew doesn't tell us that.

  297. But Luke tells us

  298. that as the rooster crowed,

  299. the Lord turned

  300. and looked at Peter

  301. and Peter remembered

  302. the saying of the Lord

  303. how he'd said to him

  304. before the rooster crows,

  305. today you will deny me

  306. three times

  307. and Peter went out

  308. and wept bitterly.

  309. See, what happened there?

  310. It wasn't that Peter

  311. had just been caught

  312. in the act.

  313. That makes us blush,

  314. doesn't it?

  315. That makes us kind of bluster

  316. when we're caught

  317. in the act of something

  318. but it's more than that.

  319. He caught sight of himself

  320. in the eyes of Jesus Christ.

  321. He saw himself reflected

  322. in the look of Jesus Christ.

  323. He saw himself

  324. through the eyes of Christ

  325. and he goes out

  326. and he weeps bitterly.

  327. And Jesus says to us tonight,

  328. he says,

  329. blessed are those who do that.

  330. Blessed are those

  331. who realize the truth

  332. about themselves.

  333. Blessed are those

  334. who've seen themselves

  335. as God sees them.

  336. Not as they'd like

  337. to think of themselves.

  338. Not as they'd like

  339. others to think of them.

  340. Blessed are those

  341. who are poor in spirit

  342. and shattered as a result

  343. who are deeply concerned

  344. about their spiritual poverty

  345. and bankruptcy.

  346. Blessed are those

  347. who mourn.

  348. And I imagine

  349. that there may be

  350. some here tonight

  351. and you think,

  352. Paul, you're overstating this.

  353. I'm not perfect.

  354. I know that

  355. but I can't say

  356. that I'm shattered

  357. about that.

  358. I'm irritated

  359. by my shortcomings.

  360. I'm depressed sometimes

  361. when I can't live up

  362. to my own ideals

  363. but shattered.

  364. I wouldn't say

  365. I'm shattered.

  366. I wouldn't say

  367. that I'm broken

  368. hearted

  369. about it.

  370. Life has to go on,

  371. doesn't it?

  372. And I need to say

  373. to you tonight,

  374. if you've seen your sin

  375. for what it is,

  376. you would be shattered.

  377. If you knew

  378. what sin really was,

  379. you'd be broken hearted.

  380. And the reason

  381. that you've not mourned

  382. for your sin

  383. is because you've not

  384. realised what it is.

  385. If I am tonight

  386. on YouTube,

  387. live on the internet,

  388. called you out

  389. as a criminal,

  390. called your name

  391. and called you a criminal,

  392. you could go to Solicitor

  393. tomorrow,

  394. can you?

  395. You could take out

  396. a writ against me.

  397. You could sue me

  398. for libel.

  399. But if I call you

  400. a sinner,

  401. it's no big deal,

  402. is it?

  403. After all,

  404. we're all sinners,

  405. aren't we?

  406. No one's perfect.

  407. Crime

  408. is against society.

  409. Sin

  410. is against God.

  411. sin

  412. is infinitely

  413. more serious

  414. than crime.

  415. Sin,

  416. somebody has written,

  417. sin can take

  418. the loveliest life

  419. and smash it

  420. on a cross.

  421. That's what sin

  422. did, of course,

  423. isn't it?

  424. Sin took the life

  425. of the Lord Jesus Christ

  426. and mocked it

  427. and nailed it

  428. to a cross.

  429. And that is what

  430. sin has done.

  431. My sin

  432. and your sin,

  433. it has crucified

  434. the Lord of glory.

  435. And Jesus

  436. went to the cross

  437. for the sins

  438. of his people.

  439. Christ Jesus

  440. came into this world

  441. to save sinners.

  442. There's a great deal

  443. of truth,

  444. isn't there,

  445. in the Negro spiritual.

  446. Were you there

  447. when they crucified

  448. my Lord?

  449. There's a real sense

  450. in which you were there

  451. and I was there.

  452. It was my sin

  453. that brought Jesus

  454. to that cross.

  455. He died for our sins.

  456. It's the whole gospel

  457. in that phrase.

  458. He died for our sins.

  459. What does that mean?

  460. I might say to you,

  461. if you're sitting here

  462. with a streaming cold,

  463. do you remember

  464. before COVID

  465. people got colds?

  466. I saw a sign

  467. on a protest

  468. the other day

  469. saying,

  470. make influenza great again.

  471. Let's say

  472. you can remember

  473. what a cold is,

  474. all right?

  475. Pre-COVID.

  476. And you say to me

  477. after the service,

  478. I keep my distance,

  479. but I say to you,

  480. are you taking something

  481. for that cold of yours?

  482. You'd understand

  483. what I mean,

  484. wouldn't you?

  485. What do I mean

  486. when I say,

  487. I hope you're taking

  488. something for that cold?

  489. That is,

  490. I hope you're taking

  491. some kind of medicine

  492. or you're taking

  493. something that will

  494. take the cold away.

  495. I'm asking,

  496. are you taking

  497. something against

  498. that cold?

  499. Are you taking

  500. something for yourself

  501. against the cold?

  502. I see you next week,

  503. I say,

  504. how are you?

  505. You say,

  506. oh my cold is better now.

  507. We don't mean that,

  508. do we?

  509. We mean the opposite.

  510. We mean,

  511. I'm better,

  512. my cold is gone.

  513. And when the Bible

  514. tells us that Jesus

  515. died for our sins,

  516. that is the way

  517. that we're to understand it.

  518. He died for us

  519. against our sins.

  520. You and I are down,

  521. not with a cold,

  522. but according to the Bible,

  523. down with sin.

  524. From the moment

  525. we come from our

  526. mother's womb,

  527. we're down with sin.

  528. From the moment

  529. we begin to exist,

  530. from the point of conception,

  531. where sin is by nature,

  532. and we come into this world

  533. down with sin.

  534. And Jesus died on the cross

  535. for our sins.

  536. He died to make our sin better,

  537. to make it go away.

  538. He died as the remedy,

  539. God's remedy for sin.

  540. You've heard the story,

  541. I'm sure,

  542. but the firemen

  543. arrive on a farm.

  544. It's a country farm,

  545. and everything is burnt out.

  546. The barn is burnt to a cinder.

  547. They finish putting out

  548. the blaze,

  549. and the firemen

  550. wander around

  551. inspecting the damage

  552. on the kind of

  553. charred ground.

  554. And one of the firemen

  555. comes,

  556. and a hen

  557. has been burnt to death

  558. on the floor

  559. of one of the buildings.

  560. The firemen

  561. pokes it with a stick

  562. and moves it.

  563. And underneath

  564. that burnt hen,

  565. they find little chicks.

  566. Little chicks,

  567. alive,

  568. clucking around,

  569. chirping around.

  570. Jesus said,

  571. he was coming down

  572. from the Mount of Olives,

  573. and he saw the

  574. city of Jerusalem

  575. spread out before him.

  576. And he says,

  577. O Jerusalem,

  578. Jerusalem,

  579. how often would I

  580. have gathered you

  581. as a hen

  582. gathers her chicks

  583. under her wings,

  584. but you would not.

  585. And Jesus wept

  586. of Jerusalem.

  587. Jerusalem was destroyed

  588. in the most terrible way.

  589. Why?

  590. Because they did not know

  591. the things that belonged

  592. to their peace

  593. according to Jesus.

  594. Jerusalem didn't realize

  595. that God had come

  596. into their midst.

  597. They didn't know

  598. that the Savior

  599. walked their streets.

  600. And even as he carried

  601. his cross

  602. to the place of execution

  603. to Calvary,

  604. the crowds line the route,

  605. don't they?

  606. The people of Jerusalem,

  607. and Jesus sees

  608. some women

  609. who are weeping,

  610. and he says to them,

  611. don't weep for me,

  612. weep for yourself.

  613. They were saying,

  614. such a waste,

  615. such a tragedy,

  616. a young man

  617. in the prime of life,

  618. so kind,

  619. going to the gallows.

  620. And they were weeping.

  621. But they weren't

  622. weeping for themselves.

  623. And they didn't understand

  624. what was happening,

  625. you see.

  626. They didn't realize

  627. that Jesus going to the cross

  628. wasn't some tragic

  629. accident of history,

  630. but that this was

  631. the Son of God

  632. who came to die

  633. for their sins.

  634. They didn't understand that.

  635. They didn't understand

  636. that it was their sins

  637. that had brought them

  638. to this point in history.

  639. They didn't understand that.

  640. And so Jesus says to them,

  641. weep for yourselves

  642. and your children.

  643. Because unless you're

  644. brought to that point

  645. where you are desperately

  646. concerned about the problem

  647. of your sin,

  648. the judgment of God

  649. will hem down upon you.

  650. And so Jesus says to you

  651. tonight,

  652. he says,

  653. how often

  654. would I have gathered you?

  655. how often

  656. would I have gathered you

  657. but you wouldn't?

  658. You wouldn't acknowledge

  659. your need.

  660. You were too proud.

  661. You wouldn't acknowledge

  662. your need of me.

  663. So I want to tell you tonight,

  664. you too will die

  665. in your sin

  666. under the judgment of God

  667. unless you come to Jesus

  668. and unless you shelter

  669. beneath his

  670. atoning sacrifice

  671. underneath his propitiation

  672. like we looked at this morning

  673. for your sins.

  674. That's what Jesus means.

  675. What he's talking about here

  676. in this little phrase.

  677. He says,

  678. blessed are those who mourn

  679. for they shall be comforted.

  680. Spurgeon put it

  681. like this.

  682. He says,

  683. repentance.

  684. That's what Jesus

  685. is talking about here.

  686. When Paul talks

  687. about repentance

  688. in 2 Corinthians 7

  689. he calls it godly sorrow.

  690. Spurgeon says

  691. repentance is the tear

  692. in the eye of faith.

  693. That's what it is.

  694. Repentance is the tear

  695. in the eye of faith.

  696. You cannot look

  697. at a crucified saviour

  698. dry eyed.

  699. Blessed are they

  700. that mourn

  701. because

  702. they are concerned

  703. that the fact

  704. of their sin

  705. that is against God

  706. and their sin

  707. has crucified

  708. the Lord of glory.

  709. Blessed are they

  710. that are disturbed

  711. who care about that.

  712. They will be comforted.

  713. They shall be comforted.

  714. Somebody has said

  715. if you want to know

  716. someone's character

  717. you find out

  718. what makes them laugh

  719. and you find out

  720. what makes them cry.

  721. What makes you laugh?

  722. What makes you cry?

  723. There's a line in a hymn

  724. Peter will remind me

  725. what it is

  726. but

  727. the line of the hymn

  728. is this

  729. the pleasures lost

  730. I sadly mourned

  731. !

  732. But never wept

  733. for thee!

  734. Till grace

  735. the sightless eyes

  736. received

  737. thy loveliness

  738. to see!

  739. I mourned

  740. the pleasures lost

  741. but I never mourned

  742. for him

  743. the Lord Jesus.

  744. Somebody's rightly

  745. described the Beatitudes

  746. as the birthmarks

  747. of the child of God.

  748. I think that's

  749. a fair description.

  750. A child comes

  751. out of the womb

  752. naked

  753. and helpless

  754. totally dependent

  755. upon its mother.

  756. So the Christian

  757. is born again

  758. poor in spirit

  759. nothing

  760. he has nothing

  761. he is nothing

  762. totally dependent

  763. upon God

  764. to save him.

  765. What's one of the

  766. first marks of life

  767. in a newborn baby?

  768. What do you

  769. look for

  770. when a baby is born?

  771. It's the happiest

  772. sound in the world

  773. isn't it?

  774. It's the sound

  775. of a newborn baby

  776. crying.

  777. Although it's chosen

  778. that

  779. the midwife

  780. holds him up

  781. by the legs

  782. and smacks him

  783. on the bottom

  784. and you hear

  785. the sound

  786. of a newborn baby

  787. crying.

  788. It's one of the

  789. happiest sounds

  790. in the world.

  791. The sound

  792. of a newborn baby

  793. crying

  794. as it comes

  795. into the world.

  796. Jesus

  797. blessed are those

  798. who mourn

  799. blessed are those

  800. who mourn

  801. for they shall

  802. be comforted.

  803. And so can you

  804. mourn over your

  805. sins tonight?

  806. Is that what makes

  807. you cry?

  808. Your sin?

  809. I am not arguing

  810. please don't

  811. please don't think

  812. that I'm asking you

  813. to mourn over

  814. your sins

  815. helplessly

  816. hopelessly

  817. and desperate

  818. but I am asking

  819. you to mourn

  820. over them

  821. desperately.

  822. We look at the

  823. table don't we

  824. gratefully

  825. to Jesus Christ

  826. because he has

  827. borne our sin

  828. and we look to him

  829. the eyes of faith

  830. with tears in our eyes

  831. there's this paradox

  832. isn't there

  833. the great paradox

  834. can you see it?

  835. The person who mourns

  836. and yet at the same

  837. time is happy

  838. I think it's so helpful

  839. and so tonight

  840. for those of us

  841. who are in Christ

  842. we're alive

  843. we're not

  844. we're not going

  845. around as a

  846. miserable sinner

  847. going around

  848. bewailing

  849. and bemoaning

  850. the fact

  851. that you are

  852. a miserable sinner

  853. all the time

  854. no no

  855. that's not

  856. that's not

  857. what we want

  858. God wants you

  859. to mourn

  860. he wants you

  861. to be sorry

  862. about your sin

  863. all your

  864. Christian life

  865. but at the same

  866. time

  867. he wants you

  868. to have this

  869. deep profound

  870. inward joy

  871. of knowing

  872. that those sins

  873. are forgiven

  874. knowing that those

  875. sins are

  876. cleansed

  877. and put away

  878. it's not either

  879. or

  880. don't fall

  881. for that

  882. the Christian

  883. life is both

  884. and it's

  885. always repenting

  886. always forgiven

  887. and so

  888. Jesus says

  889. the Christian

  890. life is a

  891. life of

  892. the happy

  893. mourner

  894. the happy

  895. weeper

  896. do you

  897. recognise

  898. yourself

  899. a child

  900. is overdue

  901. Noah is

  902. overdue

  903. I think

  904. for about

  905. two weeks

  906. and

  907. when you're

  908. overdue

  909. time drags

  910. it drags

  911. doesn't it

  912. a week

  913. a week

  914. overdue

  915. is nothing

  916. some babies

  917. have three

  918. weeks overdue

  919. and they say

  920. well we'll

  921. induce you

  922. because if it

  923. goes on longer

  924. than that

  925. it can get

  926. dangerous

  927. there are

  928. people that

  929. sit in churches

  930. that are not

  931. a week overdue

  932. or three weeks

  933. overdue

  934. they're years

  935. and decades

  936. overdue

  937. and if it

  938. goes on any

  939. longer

  940. it'll be

  941. dangerous

  942. because you

  943. must be

  944. born again

  945. and Jesus

  946. said you

  947. can't see

  948. the kingdom

  949. let alone

  950. get into

  951. it unless

  952. you're born

  953. from above

  954. so don't

  955. go on

  956. any longer

  957. and you

  958. look tonight

  959. to Jesus

  960. with the eye

  961. of faith

  962. not dry

  963. eyed

  964. what I mean

  965. by that is

  966. you don't

  967. think well I

  968. am a sinner

  969. Jesus died

  970. for sinners

  971. hey presto

  972. that's okay

  973. isn't it

  974. we look to

  975. him not dry

  976. eyed

  977. we look to

  978. him with

  979. tears

  980. moaning

  981. over our

  982. sin

  983. with a

  984. broken

  985. heart

  986. and maybe

  987. tonight

  988. it's a stage

  989. before that

  990. isn't it

  991. you need

  992. to look

  993. to him

  994. for a

  995. broken

  996. heart

  997. maybe

  998. your

  999. heart

  1000. is too

  1001. heavy

  1002. and it's

  1003. too hard

  1004. and you

  1005. look to

  1006. him because

  1007. he will

  1008. break it

  1009. and he

  1010. will melt

  1011. it

  1012. and here

  1013. is the

  1014. wonderful

  1015. thing

  1016. that the

  1017. Lord

  1018. Jesus

  1019. he breaks

  1020. your heart

  1021. but at the

  1022. same time

  1023. he heals

  1024. it

  1025. it's the

  1026. same look

  1027. the same

  1028. sight

  1029. the same

  1030. sight of a

  1031. crucified

  1032. saviour

  1033. breaks your

  1034. heart

  1035. and comforts

  1036. it

  1037. and heals

  1038. it

  1039. blessed

  1040. are those

  1041. who mourn

  1042. for they

  1043. shall be

  1044. comforted

  1045. let's pray

  1046. let's pray

  1047. let's pray
