  1. So, joy to be with you this evening.

  2. Thanks so much for all the very kind invitation.

  3. !

  4. Who or what do you put your trust in?

  5. When times are difficult, when there is uncertainty, where do you turn for provision, for hope, for peace, for joy?

  6. It's interesting, I haven't been around for that many general elections,

  7. but in general it feels like each time the significance and the seriousness of the election is ever more important.

  8. There's a sense in the culture that if an election does not go the way we want it to, then all will be lost.

  9. Slate magazine ran an article looking at the history of the phrase,

  10. most important election of our lifetime.

  11. The earliest record they could find was in October 1805.

  12. One amusing example of the saying being used was,

  13. Greenfield Democrat Sun, a newspaper in Tennessee,

  14. reported in 1923 that the most important election in the history of the county will take place,

  15. where Green County will vote on resurfacing the roads.

  16. One campaign manager for Barack Obama said he was regularly called up by Bill Clinton and told,

  17. Every presidential election around the world is always a referendum on the future.

  18. Now what Psalm 146 tells us is that that is not true.

  19. That governments, politicians, the people, even ourselves, none of us hold the future.

  20. God does.

  21. Certainly elections and governments are important.

  22. We should care about the state of our nation.

  23. We should be praying for our next leader.

  24. But ultimately, God is in control.

  25. He rules.

  26. He reigns.

  27. And ultimately, whoever is in charge, whoever wins the election, isn't ultimately in charge.

  28. And they cannot ultimately do what we most fundamentally need.

  29. They cannot save us.

  30. God reigns.

  31. God rules.

  32. And he does so with infinite wisdom and goodness.

  33. And so we should put our hope and our trust in God.

  34. So in Psalm 146, we're going to see three reasons why we should put our trust in God.

  35. God is creator.

  36. God is creator.

  37. He is creator.

  38. He is savior.

  39. And he is king.

  40. So firstly, God is creator.

  41. Let's read verses 5 and 6.

  42. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God,

  43. who made heaven and earth, the sea and all that is in there.

  44. We worship the God who created the universe, who holds it in his hands.

  45. He uttered a word and creation came into being.

  46. Nothing is outside of his control.

  47. He sustains it.

  48. He is the help that we have.

  49. The one who brings us what we need to go on.

  50. He's the one behind what we need because he has all resources in his hands.

  51. He has all power.

  52. Colossians 1, we read, not only did he make all things, all things were created through him and for him,

  53. but that he is before all things and in him all things hold together.

  54. I've read Economics University and it's often said, how do you summarize economics?

  55. It's how to allocate finite resources with infinite ones.

  56. God has infinite resources.

  57. Because he creates all things out of nothing.

  58. He is infinite.

  59. He is eternal.

  60. Yet we scramble around looking for help in places where they don't have the power

  61. or the resources to give us what we need.

  62. In all things, he's behind us, working together in his wisdom.

  63. Now some here, you may just say, well, I don't, I definitely don't, I'm fairly ambivalent about politics.

  64. I don't trust my trust in politicians.

  65. I'm not like those people.

  66. But don't we end up putting trust in ourselves?

  67. I can do this.

  68. I can make it.

  69. I made this happen.

  70. But see what God says in Deuteronomy 8.

  71. You shall remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the power to get wealth,

  72. that he may confirm his covenant that he swore to your fathers as it is this day.

  73. Our gifts are from God.

  74. We are utterly dependent on God.

  75. He's the one who gives us the ability to do what we need to do.

  76. Because he's sovereign and overrules all things as creator.

  77. We see this in Psalm 127, don't we?

  78. Unless the Lord builds the house, the workers labour in vain.

  79. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

  80. That's not to say that help in this world is useless or can't do anything.

  81. Or that politicians in elections are unimportant.

  82. Rather, we need to trust the Lord.

  83. And know that he is the one working behind all things.

  84. He is the help behind the help.

  85. Remember Jesus' words to Pilate.

  86. You have no authority but that which is given from above.

  87. I very easily forget this.

  88. While I see what's going on in the world and I get frustrated.

  89. We need to remember that God is in control.

  90. He's sovereign.

  91. He's the creator.

  92. It's fairly known that anxiety and mental health issues are worse than ever before.

  93. Particularly amongst young people.

  94. And I can't help but think our nation's moving away.

  95. I know Christians struggle with these things as well.

  96. I can't help but think our nation's moving away from trusting in a sovereign creator hasn't helped.

  97. As Spurgeon said, the sovereignty of God is the pillow upon which I lay my head.

  98. The world does not have that pillow.

  99. And this also means we can turn to God in prayer.

  100. Perhaps a big way our nation's shifted is our lack of trust.

  101. The fact that we don't turn to God in prayer.

  102. Fascinating.

  103. Famously, May 1940.

  104. Dunkirk.

  105. What happens?

  106. The nation is called to prayer.

  107. When it seems that all is lost.

  108. Fast forward to 2020.

  109. And the uncertainty and the chaos of COVID and nothing.

  110. We're placing our trust elsewhere and even told it's too dangerous to worship God.

  111. It was not essential.

  112. When we have and know a sovereign God, we go to him in prayer.

  113. It's been said the spiritual health of a church can be seen in its prayer.

  114. But this isn't just a big national issue.

  115. It's for the small issues in our lives too.

  116. Nothing is too big or too small that we can't go to God in prayer for.

  117. As one commentator put it, these verses.

  118. A God who has the wisdom and power to create the universe certainly has the wisdom and power necessary for us to experience well-being in every area of our lives.

  119. If we genuinely believe and know that God is creator and sovereign, then we would surely turn to him in prayer more.

  120. We would go to the one who holds all things in his hands and trust in him.

  121. So we can trust God because he is creator.

  122. He is sovereign.

  123. Secondly, God is savior.

  124. Let's look back at those verses again.

  125. Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God.

  126. End of verse 6.

  127. God is who keeps faith forever, who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry.

  128. The Lord sets the prisoners free.

  129. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind.

  130. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down.

  131. The Lord loves the righteous.

  132. The Lord watches over the sojourners.

  133. He upholds the widow and the fatherless.

  134. God, being sovereign and creator, is also savior and redeemer.

  135. Now these words in this passage are strikingly similar to Isaiah 61, which Jesus quotes in Luke 4.

  136. It says,

  137. As was his custom, he went to the synagogue on the Sabbath day and he stood up to read,

  138. and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him.

  139. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,

  140. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,

  141. because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.

  142. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives,

  143. and recovering of sight of the blind,

  144. to set at liberty those who are oppressed,

  145. to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.

  146. He rolled up a scroll, gave it back to the attendant,

  147. and sat down, and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him.

  148. And he began to say to them,

  149. Today, this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing.

  150. The fulfillment of all that's in this psalm is found in Jesus Christ,

  151. the Son of God.

  152. Jesus' name literally means,

  153. Yahweh is salvation.

  154. All of these images in Psalm 146 are pictures which Jesus performed in his earthly ministry.

  155. He welcomed the oppressed,

  156. he fed the 5,000,

  157. he healed the blind.

  158. All these were pictures of the great salvation that Jesus accomplished for us

  159. by his death and resurrection and ascension.

  160. One thing we always need to remember is that no politician,

  161. no mere mortal man,

  162. no one we look up to,

  163. no one we admire,

  164. can do what we most fundamentally need.

  165. Our greatest need is salvation,

  166. because our greatest problem is our sin.

  167. And that's why we put our ultimate hope and trust in Christ,

  168. because he is the only one who can deal with that

  169. by taking the penalty that was due us,

  170. going to the cross in our place,

  171. when we deserved death and judgment.

  172. He died that we might live,

  173. and he did this because he loved us.

  174. Whilst we were still sinners,

  175. God's shown his love for us,

  176. then this might die for us.

  177. Only Christ could do this.

  178. Only he could save us.

  179. And so that's why verse 3,

  180. put not your trust in princes,

  181. in a son of man,

  182. in whom there is no salvation.

  183. Instead, we put our trust in the prince of peace,

  184. the son of man,

  185. in whom there is salvation.

  186. There is no other name

  187. by which we may be saved.

  188. So whoever wins the leadership election,

  189. whoever wins our next general election,

  190. whoever wins whatever election,

  191. they cannot save us.

  192. But God chose us

  193. before the foundation of the world

  194. to be adopted into his family,

  195. to stand before him,

  196. holy and blameless.

  197. The Holy Spirit works a miracle in our hearts,

  198. opening our eyes,

  199. taking out our cold,

  200. dead hearts of stone

  201. and turning them into hearts of flesh.

  202. He makes us righteous.

  203. The righteous ones.

  204. The Lord,

  205. verse 8,

  206. the Lord loves the righteous.

  207. The righteous there are his children.

  208. That's us

  209. that he loves.

  210. His children

  211. that he has bought

  212. and that he is sanctifying.

  213. And so that puts everything into perspective.

  214. When faced with uncertainty and trials,

  215. whatever we're going through,

  216. we can remember

  217. and hold on to the fact

  218. that Jesus Christ,

  219. the son of God,

  220. died for us

  221. so that we can stand forgiven.

  222. And so he hasn't given us

  223. a spirit of slavery

  224. to fall back into fear.

  225. He has given us

  226. a spirit of adoption

  227. as sons and daughters

  228. by whom we cry,

  229. Abba,

  230. Father.

  231. And so knowing God as Saviour

  232. gives us perspective

  233. and a reason to rejoice,

  234. to trust in him.

  235. And what's important here

  236. is that not only

  237. has Jesus made us righteous,

  238. but by his spirit

  239. he empowers us

  240. to live holy lives.

  241. And so trusting in God

  242. as Saviour

  243. is not only

  244. knowing our need

  245. for a Saviour

  246. and trusting in that,

  247. but also trusting God

  248. that his ways

  249. are better

  250. and the way

  251. he has called us

  252. to live

  253. is better.

  254. But we would only

  255. see that

  256. if we know God

  257. as Saviour

  258. and that he is good.

  259. Otherwise,

  260. we end up making

  261. the same mistake

  262. as Eve,

  263. doubting the goodness

  264. of God,

  265. listening to the serpent

  266. say,

  267. did God really

  268. say.

  269. As Christians,

  270. our disobedience

  271. can often be

  272. because we think

  273. whatever choice

  274. we're wanting to make

  275. will be better

  276. than what God

  277. has for us.

  278. We doubt

  279. that God's ways

  280. are good.

  281. But when we see

  282. God as Saviour

  283. and Father

  284. who wants the best

  285. for us

  286. and follow him

  287. in light of his love,

  288. then we can come

  289. to trust him

  290. knowing that

  291. obedience

  292. is good.

  293. We can sing

  294. with the psalmist

  295. in Psalm 19,

  296. the law

  297. of the Lord

  298. is perfect,

  299. reviving the soul.

  300. The testimony

  301. of the Lord

  302. is sure,

  303. making wise

  304. the simple.

  305. The precepts

  306. of the Lord

  307. are right,

  308. rejoicing the heart.

  309. The commandment

  310. of the Lord

  311. is pure,

  312. enlightening the others.

  313. We can only

  314. sing that,

  315. pray that,

  316. if we know

  317. that God

  318. is good.

  319. whatever situation

  320. we're in,

  321. we need to trust

  322. God that

  323. obedience to him

  324. will always

  325. be right.

  326. So whether it's

  327. the temptation

  328. to lie

  329. about something,

  330. to cover up,

  331. such as at work

  332. or in your family,

  333. downplaying your faith,

  334. hiding what you believe

  335. about a particular issue

  336. in front of colleagues,

  337. or entertaining

  338. the idea

  339. of dating

  340. or marrying

  341. a non-Christian

  342. because of fear

  343. of never marrying,

  344. there are a million ways

  345. where we can be tempted

  346. to be disobedient

  347. because in the moment

  348. we think it is best.

  349. But God is good.

  350. Trusting and being

  351. obedient to him

  352. is always

  353. the way

  354. forward.

  355. But we'll only

  356. see that

  357. if we taste

  358. and see

  359. that the Lord

  360. is good.

  361. Blessed is he

  362. who takes refuge

  363. in the Lord.

  364. Now look at the end

  365. of verse 6.

  366. The Lord

  367. who keeps

  368. faith forever.

  369. He is faithful.

  370. He will do

  371. what he has promised.

  372. He won't leave us

  373. or abandon us

  374. even when we

  375. make what seem

  376. to be costly decisions

  377. out of obedience

  378. to him.

  379. I can genuinely

  380. say

  381. the times

  382. when I'm

  383. the most delighted

  384. in Christ

  385. are the times

  386. when I've been

  387. under the most

  388. pressure

  389. or opposition.

  390. A couple years ago

  391. or two years ago

  392. I

  393. got into a bit

  394. of trouble

  395. because I

  396. said the

  397. denomination

  398. that I'm a part of

  399. should hold on

  400. to orthodoxy

  401. and drive out

  402. false teachers.

  403. Said it

  404. with more words

  405. and less nuanced.

  406. and for whatever

  407. reason

  408. it got a bit

  409. more response

  410. than I had

  411. or as we'd

  412. been expecting.

  413. It was for

  414. Christian San.

  415. and

  416. I think

  417. on the Sunday

  418. it was discussed

  419. on BBC Radio 4

  420. at some point.

  421. I think

  422. I came here

  423. which was

  424. a blessing.

  425. But

  426. basically

  427. a fundamentalist

  428. figure

  429. says the stuff.

  430. and it

  431. was a really

  432. difficult time

  433. and

  434. lots of

  435. criticism

  436. lots of

  437. opposition

  438. from without

  439. and from within

  440. family

  441. saying

  442. you shouldn't

  443. have said that

  444. what you're

  445. saying is wrong

  446. you're being

  447. hateful

  448. and

  449. lots of

  450. pressure

  451. and it was

  452. in that moment

  453. I can genuinely

  454. say that I

  455. was able to

  456. praise God

  457. and say

  458. he is faithful.

  459. So even

  460. in the most

  461. difficult times

  462. God is faithful

  463. he is with us

  464. he sustains us.

  465. As Jesus

  466. says

  467. in this world

  468. you will have

  469. trouble

  470. but take

  471. heart

  472. he has

  473. overcome

  474. the world.

  475. We have

  476. eternal hope

  477. that puts

  478. everything in

  479. perspective

  480. as Paul says

  481. for this

  482. light

  483. and momentary

  484. affliction

  485. is preparing

  486. for us

  487. an eternal

  488. weight of

  489. glory

  490. beyond

  491. all

  492. comparison

  493. as we

  494. look not

  495. to the

  496. things

  497. that are

  498. seen

  499. but to

  500. the

  501. things

  502. that are

  503. unseen

  504. for the

  505. things

  506. that are

  507. seen

  508. are

  509. transient

  510. and

  511. the

  512. things

  513. that are

  514. unseen

  515. are

  516. eternal.

  517. In the

  518. gospel we

  519. have all

  520. we need

  521. because we

  522. have

  523. Christ

  524. because he

  525. is our

  526. saviour.

  527. He has

  528. rescued us

  529. he has

  530. given us

  531. salvation

  532. something

  533. that no

  534. other person

  535. can do.

  536. Others

  537. might say

  538. it's only

  539. in Christ

  540. that there

  541. is no

  542. condemnation.

  543. So yes

  544. we need to

  545. pursue

  546. holy lives.

  547. Jesus

  548. died

  549. he predestined

  550. us to be

  551. conformed

  552. to the

  553. image of

  554. his son.

  555. He died

  556. that we

  557. may say

  558. no to

  559. ungodliness

  560. but even

  561. when we

  562. fall

  563. and slip

  564. up

  565. and make

  566. mistakes

  567. and sin

  568. there is

  569. no condemnation

  570. for those

  571. who are in

  572. Christ Jesus.

  573. Trusting God

  574. also means

  575. trusting that

  576. that we are

  577. forgiven

  578. that there is

  579. grace

  580. so we can

  581. trust God

  582. because he

  583. is our

  584. sinner

  585. he is

  586. good.

  587. Finally

  588. God is

  589. king.

  590. Verse 10

  591. the Lord

  592. will reign

  593. forever.

  594. Your God

  595. is Zion

  596. to all

  597. generations.

  598. Christ is

  599. ruling and

  600. reigning

  601. right now

  602. and establishing

  603. his kingdom.

  604. He's already

  605. established his

  606. kingdom.

  607. Nothing

  608. can afford

  609. his purposes.

  610. no matter

  611. how big

  612. or powerful

  613. or influential

  614. whatever it is

  615. in front of us

  616. in our lives

  617. God

  618. still

  619. reigns.

  620. see the

  621. contrast with

  622. verse 4

  623. when the

  624. prince

  625. departs

  626. he returns

  627. to the earth

  628. on that

  629. very day

  630. his plans

  631. perish.

  632. Even those

  633. we read about

  634. in the history

  635. books

  636. and left

  637. legacies

  638. they still

  639. died

  640. and became

  641. dust.

  642. God's plans

  643. will never

  644. perish.

  645. They will

  646. come

  647. to pass.

  648. He is

  649. king of

  650. kings

  651. and lord

  652. of

  653. lords.

  654. So no

  655. matter what

  656. any power

  657. ruler

  658. or authority

  659. or government

  660. says or

  661. promise

  662. it is

  663. ultimately

  664. God who

  665. reigns.

  666. That's what

  667. we see

  668. in

  669. this

  670. psalm.

  671. We see

  672. it in

  673. Psalm 2.

  674. We see

  675. it in

  676. Romans 13.

  677. All

  678. authority

  679. is his.

  680. Or

  681. Philippians 2.

  682. God

  683. has highly

  684. exalted

  685. Christ

  686. bestowed

  687. on him

  688. the name

  689. that is

  690. above

  691. every name

  692. so that

  693. at the

  694. name of

  695. Jesus

  696. every knee

  697. should

  698. bow

  699. in heaven

  700. and on

  701. earth

  702. and under

  703. the earth

  704. and every

  705. tongue

  706. confess

  707. that

  708. Jesus

  709. Christ

  710. is

  711. Lord

  712. to the

  713. glory

  714. of God

  715. the Father.

  716. So one

  717. day every

  718. knee will

  719. bow.

  720. even

  721. Liz

  722. Truss

  723. and

  724. Rishi

  725. Sinai

  726. even

  727. Joe

  728. Biden

  729. or

  730. Putin

  731. or

  732. Zelensky

  733. or Boris

  734. Johnson

  735. they will

  736. all

  737. bow

  738. and whoever

  739. becomes our

  740. next

  741. Prime Minister

  742. it doesn't

  743. change the

  744. reality

  745. that Christ

  746. is King

  747. and so

  748. they will

  749. bow

  750. either

  751. as sons

  752. and daughters

  753. or in fear

  754. of God's

  755. judgment

  756. because it

  757. will one

  758. day come.

  759. We see the

  760. ultimate

  761. destinies for

  762. those who do

  763. not trust in

  764. him

  765. and the

  766. way of the

  767. wicked

  768. he brings

  769. to Rory

  770. at verse 9

  771. but if we

  772. know Christ

  773. as our

  774. Saviour

  775. and King

  776. as our

  777. help

  778. verse 4

  779. verse 5

  780. we are

  781. blessed

  782. we are

  783. happy

  784. we have

  785. joy and

  786. peace

  787. God is

  788. King

  789. he rules

  790. he reigns

  791. he has

  792. all power

  793. so trust

  794. him

  795. we've seen

  796. three reasons

  797. why we should

  798. put our trust

  799. in God

  800. he is

  801. creator

  802. he is

  803. Saviour

  804. he is

  805. King

  806. now just

  807. two diagnostic

  808. questions

  809. for you

  810. as we think

  811. about

  812. do you

  813. trust in

  814. the Lord

  815. you may say

  816. we do

  817. how do you

  818. respond when

  819. things are

  820. going badly

  821. do you get

  822. anxious and

  823. worried

  824. doubt God's

  825. control and

  826. sovereignty

  827. doubt God's

  828. goodness

  829. perhaps you

  830. get frustrated

  831. I know that

  832. I can

  833. do you turn

  834. to God

  835. in prayer

  836. or try

  837. to find a

  838. way through

  839. it independently

  840. in your own

  841. strength

  842. do you fall

  843. into despair

  844. as though all

  845. is lost

  846. do you turn

  847. your eyes

  848. on the things

  849. that are wrong

  850. do you forget

  851. the rich blessings

  852. that he has

  853. lavished on us

  854. in Christ

  855. how do you

  856. respond when

  857. things are

  858. going badly

  859. secondly

  860. how do you

  861. respond when

  862. things are

  863. going well

  864. do you think

  865. it's your own

  866. doing

  867. that you have

  868. achieved things

  869. for yourself

  870. are you

  871. grateful and

  872. thankful to

  873. God

  874. is your

  875. happiness in

  876. your circumstances

  877. or in God

  878. do you praise

  879. and thank you

  880. so two

  881. diagnostic

  882. questions

  883. how do you

  884. respond when

  885. things are

  886. going badly

  887. how do you

  888. respond when

  889. things are

  890. going well

  891. so how can

  892. we trust

  893. in God

  894. how can we

  895. grow in trust

  896. firstly we need to

  897. meditate on God

  898. and who he is

  899. on his character

  900. know the rich

  901. goodness

  902. of his character

  903. hear his voice

  904. in the words

  905. of scripture

  906. meditate on who

  907. he is

  908. this psalm

  909. itself

  910. is glorious

  911. has glorious

  912. truths

  913. about who

  914. he is

  915. as we read

  916. scripture

  917. we are hearing

  918. God

  919. literally

  920. speak to us

  921. he is our

  922. father

  923. secondly

  924. repent and pray

  925. ask for forgiveness

  926. for our lack of

  927. trust

  928. ask God

  929. by his spirit

  930. to give us

  931. greater faith

  932. and trust

  933. in him

  934. do we turn

  935. to God

  936. in all circumstances

  937. Paul says

  938. in the Philippines

  939. do not be anxious

  940. about anything

  941. but in everything

  942. by prayer

  943. and supplication

  944. with thanksgiving

  945. let your requests

  946. be known to God

  947. one theologian

  948. described prayerlessness

  949. as practical

  950. atheism

  951. turn to God

  952. in prayer

  953. in the good

  954. and the bad

  955. i.e.

  956. always turn to God

  957. in prayer

  958. and third

  959. and finally

  960. praise

  961. the Lord

  962. this is what we see

  963. in this psalm

  964. praise the Lord

  965. praise the Lord

  966. oh my soul

  967. I will praise

  968. the Lord

  969. as long as I live

  970. I will sing

  971. praises to my God

  972. while I have

  973. my being

  974. notice the resolve

  975. I will

  976. I will

  977. this is the

  978. first of the last

  979. the five

  980. hallelujah psalms

  981. at the end

  982. of the psalter

  983. all of them

  984. beginning and ending

  985. with praise the Lord

  986. hallelujah

  987. all of the psalms

  988. have been working

  989. up to this point

  990. of praise

  991. just as all of

  992. history

  993. is working up

  994. to this point

  995. all of our lives

  996. working up

  997. to this point

  998. praise the Lord

  999. hallelujah

  1000. resolve

  1001. in the good

  1002. and the bad

  1003. as long as we

  1004. have our being

  1005. meaning as long

  1006. as we are alive

  1007. to sing praises

  1008. to our God

  1009. singing praises

  1010. to God

  1011. is not only

  1012. in response

  1013. to the trust

  1014. in God

  1015. but it builds

  1016. our trust

  1017. in God

  1018. praise the Lord

  1019. oh my soul

  1020. tell yourself

  1021. preach to yourself

  1022. implore yourself

  1023. to praise

  1024. and worship

  1025. God

  1026. because that

  1027. is ultimately

  1028. what we are

  1029. made for

  1030. Charles Ferdinand

  1031. commenting on these

  1032. verses

  1033. and I'll close

  1034. with this

  1035. wrote

  1036. when we praise

  1037. God

  1038. let us arouse

  1039. our innermost self

  1040. our central life

  1041. we have

  1042. but one soul

  1043. and if it be

  1044. saved from

  1045. eternal wrath

  1046. it is bound

  1047. to praise

  1048. its saviour

  1049. come

  1050. heart

  1051. mind

  1052. thoughts

  1053. come my

  1054. whole being

  1055. my soul

  1056. my all

  1057. be all

  1058. on flame

  1059. with joyful

  1060. adoration

  1061. up my brethren

  1062. lift up the song

  1063. praise ye the Lord

1064. I shall not live here

  1065. forever

  1066. this mortal life

  1067. will find

  1068. finish in death

  1069. but while it lasts

  1070. I will lord

  1071. the Lord my God

  1072. I cannot tell

  1073. how long

  1074. or short

  1075. my life may be

  1076. but every hour

  1077. of it shall be

  1078. given

  1079. to the praises

  1080. of my God

  1081. while I live

  1082. our love

  1083. and while I breathe

  1084. our bless

  1085. the glorious

  1086. Jehovah

  1087. is my God

  1088. my own God

  1089. by covenant

  1090. and by blood

  1091. relationship

  1092. in Christ

  1093. Jesus

  1094. I have no being

  1095. apart from my God

  1096. therefore

  1097. I will not attempt

  1098. to enjoy my being

  1099. otherwise

  1100. than by singing

  1101. to his honour

  1102. twice the psalmist

  1103. says I will

1104. we cannot be too firm

  1105. in the holy resolve

  1106. to praise God

1107. for it is the chief end

1108. of our living and being

1109. that we should glorify God

  1110. and enjoy him

  1111. forever

  1112. Amen

  1113. Amen

  1114. Thank you.
