  1. Good evening.

  2. I bring you warm greetings from your brothers and sisters in Manila and Pilgrim Community Church.

  3. ! As we come to God's Word, I'd like to turn with me again to Mark's Gospel in chapter 3.

  4. And I'll read a passage for us. This is verses 7 to 12.

  5. Let's hear now God's Word.

  6. Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed,

  7. from Galilee and Judea and Jerusalem and Edomia,

  8. and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon.

  9. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him.

  10. And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him, because of the crowd, lest they crush him.

  11. For he had healed so many, for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him.

  12. And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out,

  13. You are the Son of God!

  14. And he strictly ordered them not to make him known.

  15. Father, we give you thanks for this hour of worship.

  16. We give you thanks that in your wisdom and in your providence,

  17. you have given us six days to go about our vocation.

  18. But you've set apart one day out of seven,

  19. a day of rest and gladness,

  20. a day to ascend Mount Zion, to worship.

  21. This is the day that you have promised in your word.

  22. You have said that in every place that you cause your name to be remembered,

  23. you will come and you will meet us and you will bless us.

  24. And so we ask now, as we come again,

  25. to consider your word, to hear your word,

  26. that you, by your Holy Spirit, give us ears to hear, eyes to see, and hearts to obey.

  27. We pray these things in Jesus' name.

  28. Amen.

  29. Well, it's an honor to be back here in Ealing with all of you this morning.

  30. I was last back here, I think it was 2019, and then COVID happened.

  31. And then I was supposed to come back last year, and then my visa, I had visa problems.

  32. So it's so good to be back here.

  33. As was mentioned earlier, our church just celebrated our 10th anniversary.

  34. So that was two weeks ago.

  35. We had a simple Thanksgiving celebration.

  36. And it's been so encouraging for myself to look back on 10 years

  37. and to see how the Lord has held our hand and has grown the ministry.

  38. I still recall the early days of church planting,

  39. when we would only have a handful of people come to our gatherings.

  40. Despite the occasional discouragement and doubt,

  41. the Lord has faithfully sustained us

  42. and has kept us faithful to his gospel.

  43. Indeed, slowly but surely, the Lord added to our number

  44. those who wanted and needed to hear the good news

  45. that Jesus Christ is the only Savior of sinners.

  46. But we need to understand that not everyone comes to Jesus

  47. or indeed comes to church for the right reasons.

  48. This is true not only in our time,

  49. but also in Jesus' time.

  50. Different people were drawn to him for different reasons.

  51. In fact, not everyone in the crowds that we just read

  52. that were following him actually believed in him.

  53. Some came to Jesus because they saw him as a healer,

  54. as someone who could make things better.

  55. Others followed him because they perceived him to be a hero,

  56. someone who could fight their battles for them.

  57. Many today who claim to be Christians view Jesus in a similar way.

  58. They view Jesus as a key to the victorious life

  59. that they desire and that they were destined for.

  60. Some people, they come to church because they think,

  61. well, you know, it's a tit for tat.

  62. I come to church, Jesus blessed me.

  63. Some people, they come to church because probably they've encountered

  64. a difficult thing in life.

  65. And they think, I got to go to church to make it all better.

  66. Now, many tend to think that following Jesus

  67. means assured prosperity or assured health.

  68. Perhaps for some of us here today,

  69. there is still some sense of this within us as well.

  70. So the question that I'd like for all of us to consider this evening is this.

  71. It's a very simple question.

  72. You know Jesus.

  73. But what kind of a savior is Jesus for us?

  74. This evening, as we turn our attention to our text in the Gospel of Mark,

  75. the Word of God is teaching us

  76. that many people want Jesus as a healer or as a hero.

  77. But his compassion for sinners,

  78. that's the good news that we all need.

  79. I have three points for us to consider this evening.

  80. Number one, a savior who can make life easier.

  81. Number two, a savior who can vanquish our enemies.

  82. And number three, a savior who has compassion for sinners.

  83. Now, for the boys and girls, and I also do this at Pilgrim,

  84. I want to give you three key words.

  85. Okay?

  86. So these are just three words.

  87. They all start with the letter H.

  88. And I want you to remember them.

  89. And the reason why I want you to remember them

  90. is because you might not understand everything I say this evening.

  91. But your parents will.

  92. So remember the three key words

  93. so that when you go home, you ask,

  94. Mommy,

  95. what does healer mean?

  96. What does hero mean?

  97. What does heart mean?

  98. Those are the three key words.

  99. Healer, hero, heart.

  100. Okay?

  101. So let's look at the first point.

  102. A savior who can make life easier.

  103. Look at me in verses 7 to 8 again.

  104. Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea,

  105. and a great crowd followed,

  106. from Galilee and Judea,

  107. and Jerusalem and Edomia,

  108. and from beyond the Jordan,

  109. and from around Tyre and Sidon.

  110. When the great crowd heard

  111. all that he was doing,

  112. they came to him.

  113. Now Jesus was withdrawing with his disciples

  114. to the Sea of Galilee

  115. because the religious leaders,

  116. and Paul read this earlier

  117. when we read chapter 3,

  118. the religious leaders were plotting to destroy him.

  119. They wanted to kill him.

  120. Jesus withdrew then to the lakeside,

  121. but he didn't stop what he was out to do.

  122. He kept preaching.

  123. He kept healing.

  124. He kept casting out demons,

  125. as he did.

  126. And so as a result,

  127. as you would expect,

  128. as I would expect,

  129. a great crowd

  130. from different places in Israel.

  131. This is representative of Palestine.

  132. The heydays of Old Testament Israel.

  133. People from all over were coming

  134. to follow Jesus.

  135. And Jesus' reputation, you see,

  136. had spread.

  137. And what was that reputation?

  138. There's a miracle worker down in Galilee.

  139. There's an exorcist down in Galilee.

  140. And so people are coming.

  141. But we want to ask the question,

  142. why exactly were the people coming to him?

  143. Was it to hear him preach the gospel?

  144. Jesus said that was his mission,

  145. to preach the kingdom of God.

  146. The preaching,

  147. sorry, the healing,

  148. the casting out of demons,

  149. these are signs of his authority

  150. in the way that he preached the gospel.

  151. So were the people coming

  152. because of the preaching?

  153. Were the people coming

  154. in order to be his disciples?

  155. Well, I want you to look in verse 8 again.

  156. When the great crowd heard

  157. all that he was teaching?

  158. No.

  159. All that he was doing,

  160. they came to him.

  161. The great crowd came to him

  162. when they heard

  163. all that he was doing.

  164. People were coming to Jesus

  165. because of what they have heard

  166. that he was able to do for them.

  167. For many in the crowd,

  168. they were following Jesus

  169. because he was pretty impressive.

  170. He was a miracle worker.

  171. He was a healer.

  172. Verse 10 tells us

  173. that the sick

  174. were pressing in on him

  175. and they were healed

  176. by merely touching him.

  177. The crowds were seeking Jesus

  178. because they saw him as a savior

  179. who was a healer,

  180. who could make their lives easier.

  181. Now friends,

  182. many people today

  183. have the same idea

  184. about Jesus.

  185. Many come to church

  186. because they think

  187. that Jesus can make their lives

  188. better

  189. or easier.

  190. Many people are attracted to Jesus

  191. for what they perceive

  192. that they could get from him.

  193. And make no mistake,

  194. this also happens

  195. in Reformed

  196. and Presbyterian churches.

  197. We are not immune.

  198. There are people

  199. who come to our churches

  200. and I'll speak of my own church.

  201. There are a lot of people

  202. who come to our church

  203. in search

  204. of what they perceive

  205. to be theological precision

  206. and doctrinal depth.

  207. They want to come

  208. because

  209. they can learn something.

  210. But how many people

  211. do we know?

  212. How many people

  213. do you know?

  214. People who are

  215. young people,

  216. very intelligent,

  217. very zealous,

  218. who discover the riches

  219. of

  220. the Reformed faith.

  221. They get plugged

  222. into the various activities

  223. of the church.

  224. They show great promise

  225. for a time.

  226. But then they suddenly

  227. disappear

  228. from our fellowship

  229. without notice.

  230. And we later find out

  231. that they had encountered

  232. difficulties and troubles

  233. in their lives.

  234. And so they have since

  235. abandoned Christianity

  236. when it

  237. started to hurt.

  238. The theological discussions

  239. may have been stimulating.

  240. The socials were fun.

  241. They came to know

  242. a lot of

  243. things about God.

  244. but they knew God

  245. very little.

  246. When the pressures

  247. of life

  248. pressed in,

  249. they realized

  250. that following Jesus

  251. was no longer

  252. worth it.

  253. And suddenly

  254. they've outgrown

  255. the theology

  256. they once found

  257. exciting

  258. and attractive.

  259. Beloved,

  260. if we come to Jesus

  261. for anything

  262. other than

  263. Jesus,

  264. then we're really

  265. just fetching blessings

  266. for ourselves.

  267. We're really

  268. just paying

  269. lip service

  270. to Him.

  271. Now,

  272. don't get me wrong.

  273. There's certainly

  274. nothing wrong

  275. with wanting

  276. to have an easier life.

  277. Who doesn't want

  278. to have an easier life?

  279. I want to have

  280. an easier life.

  281. There's a sense

  282. in which

  283. true saving faith

  284. in Christ

  285. should result

  286. in some sense

  287. in a positive change

  288. in our present lives.

  289. But that change

  290. may not be

  291. what we expect

  292. it to be.

  293. The change

  294. that the gospel

  295. brings about

  296. is a change

  297. in perspective.

  298. We gain

  299. a proper

  300. biblical

  301. vista

  302. on our life,

  303. on our suffering,

  304. and of the

  305. present hope

  306. of future glory.

  307. But if we

  308. view Jesus

  309. merely as

  310. the stepping stone

  311. to this

  312. easier and

  313. better life

  314. that we desire

  315. or that we

  316. think that we

  317. deserve,

  318. then we will

  319. end up just like

  320. those people

  321. in the crowd

  322. who only saw

  323. Jesus as a

  324. healer,

  325. a Savior

  326. who could make

  327. their lives

  328. easier.

  329. Which brings me

  330. to point number

  331. two,

  332. a Savior

  333. who can

  334. vanquish

  335. our enemies.

  336. We'd like

  337. that,

  338. don't we?

  339. Another reason

  340. why the crowds

  341. were pressing

  342. in on Jesus

  343. was because

  344. of the promise

  345. of deliverance

  346. from unclean

  347. spirits.

  348. Look at

  349. verses 11

  350. and 12.

  351. And whenever

  352. the unclean

  353. spirits saw

  354. him,

  355. they fell

  356. down before

  357. him and

  358. cried out,

  359. you are

  360. the Son

  361. of God.

  362. And he

  363. strictly

  364. ordered them

  365. not to

  366. make him

  367. known.

  368. Again,

  369. there's

  370. nothing wrong

  371. with wanting

  372. to be

  373. delivered

  374. from our

  375. hardships

  376. and from

  377. our

  378. adversities.

  379. We all

  380. want and

  381. need a

  382. Savior

  383. who can

  384. and will

  385. subdue

  386. all his

  387. and our

  388. enemies.

  389. But if we

  390. are only

  391. coming to

  392. Jesus

  393. because

  394. he is

  395. able to

  396. grant us

  397. temporal

  398. relief

  399. from our

  400. troubles,

  401. our

  402. pains,

  403. our

  404. confusions,

  405. our

  406. sufferings

  407. and our

  408. griefs,

  409. then we're

  410. still largely

  411. missing the

  412. point of

  413. the gospel.

  414. If we are

  415. coming to

  416. church to

  417. be rid

  418. of our

  419. problems,

  420. then we

  421. do not

  422. understand

  423. what kind

  424. of a

  425. place the

  426. church is.

  427. Can I

  428. say to

  429. you,

  430. the church

  431. is not

  432. a place

  433. where we

  434. can be

  435. freed

  436. from our

  437. problems.

  438. It is

  439. a place

  440. where our

  441. problems

  442. become

  443. intelligent.

  444. understandable.

  445. It is

  446. a place

  447. where as

  448. we come

  449. sitting under

  450. the preached

  451. word week

  452. in and

  453. week out

  454. that we

  455. find that

  456. our problems

  457. begin to

  458. make sense.

  459. And they

  460. make sense

  461. because the

  462. Bible teaches

  463. us that

  464. God is in

  465. control.

  466. He is

  467. sovereign.

  468. He is at

  469. work in

  470. history and

  471. he is

  472. working all

  473. things together

  474. for good.

  475. when Jesus

  476. returns,

  477. he will

  478. reconcile

  479. all things

  480. to himself

  481. and he

  482. will make

  483. all things

  484. new.

  485. But

  486. if we

  487. come to

  488. Jesus

  489. with our

  490. own

  491. schedule,

  492. as you

  493. would say,

  494. our own

  495. timeline,

  496. and we

  497. demand that

  498. he deal

  499. with finality,

  500. with our

  501. problems now,

  502. then what we

  503. really want

  504. is not a

  505. savior who

  506. will save

  507. us from

  508. all our

  509. sins.

  510. What we

  511. want is a

  512. hero who

  513. will act

  514. like our

  515. personal

  516. bodyguard.

  517. For many

  518. in the

  519. crowd,

  520. this was

  521. their

  522. thinking

  523. too.

  524. They

  525. wanted a

  526. savior who

  527. could drive

  528. away their

  529. enemies.

  530. For many

  531. of them,

  532. as they

  533. heard the

  534. unclean

  535. spirits'

  536. true yet

  537. malicious

  538. words,

  539. you are

  540. the son

  541. of God,

  542. their minds

  543. were not

  544. led to

  545. think of

  546. Jesus as

  547. the son

  548. of God,

  549. coming into

  550. the world

  551. as a

  552. savior,

  553. as a

  554. redeemer

  555. of sinners.

  556. You see,

  557. in those

  558. times,

  559. the messianic

  560. expectations

  561. that were

  562. swirling

  563. around in

  564. their minds

  565. was that

  566. of a

  567. strong

  568. military

  569. and

  570. political

  571. leader

  572. who would

  573. restore

  574. the kingdom

  575. of Israel,

  576. who would

  577. vanquish

  578. the occupiers.

  579. Many

  580. think that

  581. Jesus is

  582. the champion

  583. who,

  584. if only

  585. they could

  586. just get

  587. him to

  588. be on

  589. their

  590. side,

  591. will

  592. ensure

  593. that

  594. everything

  595. will

  596. turn out

  597. okay for

  598. them.

  599. But this

  600. is to

  601. miss the

  602. heart

  603. behind

  604. Jesus'

  605. earthly

  606. mission,

  607. which is

  608. what the

  609. third

  610. point in

  611. my

  612. sermon

  613. points

  614. us to,

  615. a savior

  616. who has

  617. compassion

  618. for

  619. sinners.

  620. We have

  621. seen that

  622. there were

  623. two wrong

  624. reasons why

  625. people were

  626. crowding

  627. around

  628. Jesus,

  629. some

  630. wanted

  631. a

  632. healer,

  633. some

  634. wanted

  635. a

  636. hero,

  637. but what

  638. about

  639. us?

  640. What kind

  641. of savior

  642. is Jesus

  643. to you,

  644. to us?

  645. What do we

  646. want from

  647. him?

  648. Do we just

  649. want to

  650. use him

  651. as an

  652. instrument

  653. for our

  654. personal

  655. fulfillment?

  656. Do we

  657. want him

  658. as a

  659. healer

  660. to make

  661. our lives

  662. easier?

  663. Do we

  664. want him

  665. as a

  666. hero?

  667. Jesus,

  668. remove all

  669. the obstacles,

  670. stand in

  671. way of

  672. the

  673. fulfillment

  674. of my

  675. hopes and

  676. aspirations?

  677. Well,

  678. the middle

  679. two verses

  680. in our

  681. text reveal

  682. something to

  683. us about

  684. Jesus'

  685. compassion.

  686. I want us

  687. to focus

  688. on this

  689. in this

  690. point.

  691. Verses

  692. 9 and

  693. 10,

  694. 10 and

  695. he told

  696. his

  697. disciples

  698. to have

  699. a boat

  700. ready for

  701. him

  702. because

  703. of the

  704. crowd

  705. lest

  706. they

  707. crush

  708. him.

  709. For

  710. he had

  711. healed

  712. many

  713. so that

  714. all who

  715. had

  716. diseases

  717. pressed

  718. around

  719. him

  720. to

  721. touch

  722. him.

  723. The

  724. crowds

  725. were

  726. following

  727. Jesus,

  728. they were

  729. pressing

  730. in on

  731. him.

  732. You

  733. know,

  734. he was

  735. actually

  736. at risk

  737. of being

  738. crushed

  739. by the

  740. sheer

  741. amount

  742. of

  743. people.

  744. At

  745. any

  746. point

  747. in

  748. time,

  749. he

  750. could

  751. have

  752. just

  753. said,

  754. Peter,

  755. can you

  756. tell them

  757. it's

  758. enough

  759. for

  760. today?

  761. Can

  762. you

  763. can

  764. just

  765. send

  766. them

  767. home?

  768. I'm

  769. tired.

  770. Let's

  771. do it

  772. again

  773. tomorrow.

  774. At

  775. any

  776. point,

  777. he

  778. could

  779. have

  780. done

  781. that.

  782. He

  783. does

  784. not

  785. do

  786. this.

  787. He

  788. does

  789. not

  790. hinder

  791. the

  792. crowd.

  793. And

  794. he

  795. still

  796. continues

  797. to

  798. heal

  799. them.

  800. Instead,

  801. he

  802. instructs

  803. his

  804. disciples,

  805. have

  806. a

  807. boat

  808. ready

  809. just

  810. in

  811. case.

  812. Now,

  813. in this

  814. instance,

  815. he

  816. doesn't

  817. use

  818. it.

  819. Later

  820. on,

  821. he

  822. does.

  823. But

  824. what

  825. was

  826. the

  827. wisdom

  828. behind

  829. having

  830. a

  831. boat

  832. ready?

  833. And

  834. why

  835. didn't

  836. Jesus

  837. just

  838. send

  839. the

  840. crowds

  841. away?

  842. Well,

  843. it

  844. was

  845. so

  846. that

  847. he

  848. could

  849. keep

  850. preaching

  851. to

  852. them,

  853. isn't

  854. it?

  855. Earlier

  856. in

  857. Mark

    Mark 1:38

  858. chapter

  859. 1,

  860. verses

  861. 38,

  862. 28 to

  863. 30,

  864. we

  865. read

  866. there

  867. that

  868. he

  869. said

  870. to

  871. his

  872. disciples,

  873. let

  874. us

  875. that

  876. I

  877. may

  878. preach

  879. there

  880. also.

  881. For,

  882. because,

  883. that is

  884. why I

  885. came

  886. out.

  887. Being in

  888. a boat

  889. while the

  890. crowd

  891. remained at

  892. the

  893. lake shore

  894. would have

  895. provided a

  896. great

  897. opportunity

  898. to proclaim

  899. the gospel

  900. to even

  901. more people.

  902. He would

  903. have had

  904. occasion to

  905. call more

  906. people to

  907. repentance,

  908. to put

  909. their faith

  910. in him.

  911. Jesus'

  912. instruction

  913. here to

  914. have a

  915. boat

  916. ready

  917. reveals

  918. to us

  919. the

  920. kind

  921. of

  922. compassionate

  923. heart

  924. that

  925. he

  926. had.

  927. And

  928. brothers and

  929. sisters,

  930. this is

  931. the kind

  932. of

  933. savior

  934. that

  935. Jesus

  936. is.

  937. One

  938. whose

  939. heart

  940. is for

  941. the

  942. needy

  943. sinners.

  944. He

  945. had

  946. not

  947. come

  948. only

  949. to

  950. heal

  951. their

  952. physical

  953. diseases,

  954. but to

  955. resurrect

  956. them from

  957. spiritual

  958. death.

  959. He

  960. had

  961. come

  962. not

  963. only

  964. to

  965. give

  966. them

  967. a

  968. boost

  969. so

  970. that

  971. they

  972. could

  973. overcome

  974. the

  975. obstacles

  976. that

  977. they

  978. faced

  979. in

  980. life.

  981. You

  982. can

  983. do

  984. it.

  985. Here's

  986. some

  987. grace.

  988. He

  989. had

  990. come

  991. to

  992. overcome

  993. their

  994. greatest

  995. enemies,

  996. sin,

  997. Satan,

  998. and the

  999. stronghold

  1000. of

  1001. secularism.

  1002. So as

  1003. we

  1004. close,

  1005. let's

  1006. reflect on

  1007. a few

  1008. things.

  1009. If

  1010. you're

  1011. here

  1012. and

  1013. you're

  1014. a

  1015. Christian,

  1016. I

  1017. want to

  1018. challenge

  1019. you to

  1020. have a

  1021. heart

  1022. check.

  1023. What

  1024. kind

  1025. of a

  1026. savior

  1027. is

  1028. Jesus

  1029. to

  1030. you?

  1031. Is

  1032. he

  1033. only a

  1034. healer?

  1035. Is

  1036. he

  1037. only a

  1038. hero?

  1039. Or

  1040. is

  1041. he,

  1042. as that

  1043. ancient

  1044. and beloved

  1045. hymn

  1046. reminds us,

  1047. heart of

  1048. my own

  1049. heart,

  1050. whatever

  1051. befall,

  1052. still be

  1053. my vision,

  1054. O

  1055. ruler

  1056. of

  1057. all.

  1058. Speaking

  1059. of the

  1060. savior's

  1061. heart,

  1062. what could

  1063. we learn

  1064. about his

  1065. approach to

  1066. those who

  1067. had legitimate

  1068. material needs?

  1069. There was

  1070. no dichotomy

  1071. in Jesus'

  1072. mind,

  1073. oh,

  1074. but I'm

  1075. just here

  1076. to preach

  1077. the gospel.

  1078. If you

  1079. need some

  1080. material help,

  1081. please approach

  1082. our deacons.

  1083. They are

  1084. very good

  1085. at what

  1086. they're

  1087. doing.

  1088. No.

  1089. The

  1090. ministry

  1091. of word

  1092. indeed

  1093. were in

  1094. Jesus'

  1095. imperfect

  1096. complementarity.

  1097. He's

  1098. out

  1099. for the

  1100. needy.

  1101. He

  1102. compassionately

  1103. helped

  1104. them.

  1105. And he

  1106. did it

  1107. because he

  1108. could,

  1109. not because

  1110. they deserved

  1111. it.

  1112. He showed

  1113. mercy and

  1114. grace.

  1115. And should

  1116. we not

  1117. do likewise

  1118. sacrifice,

  1119. when we

  1120. are in a

  1121. position to

  1122. help other

  1123. people.

  1124. Ask

  1125. yourself,

  1126. what are

  1127. my

  1128. requirements

  1129. for helping

  1130. people?

  1131. Because for

  1132. Jesus,

  1133. the only

  1134. requirement

  1135. was this,

  1136. they need

  1137. help,

  1138. and I'm

  1139. able.

  1140. Now,

  1141. maybe you're

  1142. here and

  1143. you're not

  1144. sure if

  1145. you're a

  1146. Christian.

  1147. maybe you're

  1148. here and

  1149. you're

  1150. exploring,

  1151. what does

  1152. it mean

  1153. to follow

  1154. Jesus?

  1155. Well,

  1156. the same

  1157. question is

  1158. being asked

  1159. of you by

  1160. the text

  1161. today.

  1162. What kind

  1163. of a

  1164. savior do

  1165. you think

  1166. Jesus is?

  1167. is he

  1168. someone who

  1169. can make

  1170. your life

  1171. easier?

  1172. Is he

  1173. someone who

  1174. can fight

  1175. off your

  1176. enemies?

  1177. Or someone

  1178. who truly

  1179. loves you?

  1180. I hope

  1181. what is

  1182. shown through

  1183. in this

  1184. text for

  1185. you is

  1186. Jesus'

  1187. compassionate

  1188. heart.

  1189. Someone who

  1190. desires to

  1191. give

  1192. himself to

  1193. you.

  1194. And I

  1195. hope that

  1196. you see

  1197. that this

  1198. is the

  1199. great need

  1200. of your

  1201. life.

  1202. The

  1203. great need

  1204. of our

  1205. lives is

  1206. to belong

  1207. to Jesus.

  1208. My

  1209. friend,

  1210. the salvation

  1211. that he

  1212. offers is

  1213. not just

  1214. for the

  1215. here and

  1216. now.

  1217. He

  1218. promises

  1219. you

  1220. everlasting

  1221. life in

  1222. himself.

  1223. And so

  1224. if you

  1225. will repent

  1226. of your

  1227. sins,

  1228. if you

  1229. will

  1230. repent

  1231. of,

  1232. if you

  1233. will

  1234. forsake

  1235. all of

  1236. your

  1237. efforts

  1238. to save

  1239. yourself,

  1240. and if

  1241. you will

  1242. believe in

  1243. him today,

  1244. if you

  1245. will see

  1246. with

  1247. open eyes

  1248. his

  1249. compassion

  1250. for you,

  1251. and if

  1252. you come

  1253. to Jesus

  1254. and you

  1255. say,

  1256. forgive

  1257. me,

  1258. my

  1259. sins,

  1260. save

  1261. me,

  1262. you know

  1263. what he

  1264. will do?

  1265. He

  1266. will save

  1267. you.

  1268. He

  1269. will forgive

  1270. you your

  1271. sins.

  1272. And you

  1273. know why

  1274. he'll do

  1275. it?

  1276. Because

  1277. only he

  1278. can.

  1279. my

  1280. dear

  1281. friend,

  1282. this is

  1283. the kind

  1284. of

  1285. savior

  1286. that

  1287. Jesus

  1288. is.

  1289. If

  1290. he is

  1291. not yet

  1292. your

  1293. savior

  1294. today,

  1295. look to

  1296. him,

  1297. turn to

  1298. him in

  1299. faith,

  1300. and he

  1301. will save

  1302. you.

  1303. Let's

  1304. pray.

  1305. Father in

  1306. heaven,

  1307. we give

  1308. you thanks

  1309. for sending

  1310. your son,

  1311. the Lord

  1312. Jesus Christ,

  1313. who has

  1314. come,

  1315. for this

  1316. purpose,

  1317. which is

  1318. to preach

  1319. the gospel.

  1320. And we

  1321. give you

  1322. thanks that

  1323. it is

  1324. very clear

  1325. in the

  1326. gospels

  1327. what kind

  1328. of a

  1329. savior he

  1330. is.

  1331. He has

  1332. come

  1333. to be

  1334. among us.

  1335. He has

  1336. come

  1337. to

  1338. champion

  1339. for us,

  1340. yes,

  1341. but he

  1342. has come

  1343. to take

  1344. us home

  1345. to you

  1346. through the

  1347. great sacrifice

  1348. of his

  1349. own death.

  1350. God

  1351. will

  1352. And tonight

  1353. I pray,

  1354. Lord,

  1355. that as we

  1356. continue to

  1357. meditate upon

  1358. these things

  1359. by your

  1360. Holy Spirit,

  1361. you will

  1362. reveal to

  1363. us those

  1364. wrong ideas

  1365. that we may

  1366. have of

  1367. Jesus.

  1368. Some of

  1369. us might

  1370. be looking

  1371. to Jesus

  1372. and wanting

  1373. Jesus as

  1374. a healer.

  1375. Oh, I hope

  1376. Jesus makes

  1377. everything right.

  1378. He will.

  1379. love of

  1380. Jesus.

  1381. Maybe some

  1382. of us,

  1383. Lord, are

  1384. here and

  1385. we're looking

  1386. for a

  1387. champion, a

  1388. hero.

  1389. We give

  1390. you thanks

  1391. that he

  1392. is our

  1393. true champion

  1394. against sin,

  1395. Satan, and

  1396. secularism.

  1397. But more than

  1398. all of that, I

  1399. pray, Lord, you

  1400. will make clear

  1401. in each one of

  1402. our hearts

  1403. the love

  1404. of Jesus

  1405. and that,

  1406. Lord, you

  1407. will enable

  1408. us to

  1409. believe in

  1410. him and

  1411. to want

  1412. Jesus for

  1413. Jesus, to

  1414. belong to

  1415. him.

  1416. Would you

  1417. do this?

  1418. We pray you

  1419. would by your

  1420. Holy Spirit.

  1421. We pray

  1422. these in

  1423. Jesus' name.
