  1. And if you've got a Bible, please turn to Acts chapter 4.

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  2. If you'd like a Bible, they're just at the doors.

  3. You come in, it'll really help you if you've got one in front of you.

  4. We're going to take a little break from Acts.

  5. I'm preaching away in some different IPC churches over the next few weeks.

  6. And it's not long until Advent.

  7. And we should give a very warm welcome to those who are in the old chapel.

  8. And so, are you all right? Thumbs up.

  9. I wrote to the church this week saying that we were so full

  10. that we were going to free up lots of room in here

  11. by moving two of the house groups each week into the old chapel.

  12. So we're very grateful that you've taken that sacrifice to be the first.

  13. And there's not massive amounts of room are there today.

  14. So that's really encouraging.

  15. It's encouraging because the church is growing.

  16. And that is the message of the book of Acts.

  17. That the church of Jesus Christ is growing.

  18. And the word of God is unstoppable.

  19. In fact, the big issue in the book of Acts is the progress of the word of God.

  20. The risen Lord Jesus Christ commissions his apostles to be witnesses

  21. that will go out to the ends of the earth.

  22. The Holy Spirit is poured out from heaven.

  23. The church grows.

  24. And Jesus continues to work from heaven.

  25. And the way that the book of Acts speaks about it is quite interesting.

  26. It talks about that the word of God grows.

  27. It's a strange phrase, isn't it?

  28. The word of God grows.

  29. The word of God multiplies.

  30. The word of God increases.

  31. Let me just show you this.

  32. And so, keep a finger in chapter 4.

  33. Turn over to chapter 6, verse 7.

  34. Just a couple of pages.

  35. Chapter 6, verse 7.

  36. And they make decisions there for the good of the church and for the growth of the church.

  37. And then it says this.

  38. Chapter 6, verse 7.

  39. The word of God increased.

  40. What does that mean?

  41. It means that the number of disciples multiplied greatly.

  42. And miracles of miracles.

  43. And number of the priests, the religious elite, they were obedient to the faith.

  44. That is a miracle.

  45. Turn over to chapter 12.

  46. Just a few pages on.

  47. In verse 24, there's this wonderful passage.

  48. Before this King Herod comes to a very sticky end.

  49. And then in chapter 12, verse 24, we read that the word of God grew and multiplied.

  50. Same thing.

  51. Just go one passage on.

  52. Chapter 13, verse 48.

  53. And it says,

  54. When the Gentiles, the non-Jews, heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord.

  55. And as many were appointed to eternal life believed.

  56. And chapter 13, verse 49.

  57. The word of the Lord was spreading throughout the whole region.

  58. Just one more.

  59. Chapter 19.

  60. The next chapter.

  61. And verse 20.

  62. Many people are soundly brought to Christ.

  63. And chapter 19, verse 20.

  64. The word of God grew and prevailed mightily.

  65. Let's go back to chapter 4.

  66. The big issue is the spread of the word of God.

  67. No sooner does the word of God appear.

  68. No sooner is the good news of the Lord Jesus preached.

  69. No sooner do men and women and boys and girls are saved through repentance and faith.

  70. No sooner does that happen than there is vicious and consistent hostility and persecution.

  71. It breaks out.

  72. We're going to see the three ways to destroy the church in these chapters.

  73. But starting right here in Acts chapter 4.

    Acts 4 chapter mention

  74. Right up to this very day.

  75. The devil's most obvious and brutal strategy is.

  76. The use of violence and intimidation.

  77. Coercion and pressure.

  78. Against Christians.

  79. And the devil's mission remains the same.

  80. It hasn't changed.

  81. He will do whatever he can to silence the ministry of the word of God.

  82. He wants to stop the spread of the word.

  83. He wants to stop the spread of salvation.

  84. And so he continues to work ceaselessly to stop the spread of the word of God.

  85. Everything up to this point in Acts has been just lovely.

  86. Jesus has gone to heaven hasn't he?

  87. He's given his disciples this brilliant purpose of bringing, of being a blessing to the ends of the earth.

  88. And they're to take his name to the ends of the earth.

  89. And he's poured out his Holy Spirit upon them so that they would do it.

  90. And he's created a community that's marked by radical generosity and love and generous hospitality.

  91. And true community.

  92. And the apostles go out and they speak about the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  93. And people believe it's the most brilliant thing that's ever happened.

  94. People start coming to faith in him.

  95. In chapter 3 there's a lame man who's been lame from birth for 40 years.

  96. And with the authority of Jesus Christ he is healed.

  97. And you come to the end of chapter 3 and this guy who was lame for 40 years is standing there.

  98. And Peter and John are preaching about the Lord Jesus and all the blessings of God.

  99. And then it's interrupted by chapter 4 verse 1 to 4.

  100. Look what it says.

  101. As they were speaking to the people, the priest, the captain of the temple and the Sadducees came upon them.

  102. Greatly, greatly overjoyed at what was happening.

  103. Greatly thrilled that this man had been kind of restored to life.

  104. No, greatly annoyed.

  105. Greatly annoyed.

  106. Because they were teaching the people and proclaiming in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

  107. And they arrested them.

  108. Put them in custody till the next day.

  109. For it was already evening.

  110. But, and it's a very big but isn't it?

  111. But many of those who heard the word believed.

  112. And the number of men came to about 5,000.

  113. And if you look at verse 12.

  114. It says there, doesn't it?

  115. And that salvation is found in no other name given among men.

  116. And the word in verse 12 is for men and women there.

  117. But the word in verse 4 is actually just the word for men.

  118. So let's say they had 2.5 children.

  119. A husband and a wife, 2.5 kids.

  120. You can multiply it, isn't it?

  121. Look at verse 4.

  122. There's about 20, 20, 22 and a half thousand people.

  123. And the fact that we're told that it was the priests and the captain of the temple and the Sadducees that have got an issue tells us that this is a problem of power and authority.

  124. And so it's no accident that they came upon the apostles.

  125. It's not as if they were wandering around and suddenly they found these people preaching.

  126. No, this is carefully devised.

  127. They've met their legal team.

  128. They're going to use as much legal force as they can do to get away with it.

  129. They hide their use of the law.

  130. But really what they want to do is silence people.

  131. They want to stop the spread of the name of Jesus.

  132. They want to extinguish the fire of the Spirit before this movement of the Spirit gets out of hand.

  133. And of course it's an abuse of the office of priest, isn't it?

  134. It infuriated these religious people that Peter and John, untrained people, were preaching the bodily resurrection of Jesus.

  135. And the thing about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, that Jesus has risen from the dead, is this.

  136. It's that you can't control it.

  137. I don't know if you've noticed about Christianity, but when you talk about and believe in the resurrection,

  138. it automatically puts you into a power struggle.

  139. Either Jesus really is Lord, or you're going to deny that and hold on to the fact that you are Lord.

  140. The resurrection is all about power and control.

  141. Power and control in my life, and power and control in religious institutions, like you see here.

  142. And it was even worse for this group of people called the Sadducees,

  143. because the Sadducees did not believe in any kind of resurrection.

  144. So the preaching of Jesus Christ is risen from the dead, and he reigns, and he is Lord,

  145. and he's calling people from all over the world to him.

  146. It infuriated these religious people.

  147. It enraged them.

  148. If you were going to try and market the gospel to the Sadducees in Jerusalem,

  149. it is a very stupid thing to talk about the resurrection.

  150. Surely, Peter and John, with these religious people, you'd want to play down that element, wouldn't you?

  151. Peter and John, they need, don't they, some media training, savvy media training.

  152. They don't get it.

  153. So they preach this message that Jesus is Lord, they're thrown into prison.

  154. This is less than two months since this same group of authorities have managed to have Jesus executed.

  155. And I guess they think to themselves that crushing this movement won't take much trouble.

  156. They put these two guys in prison overnight.

  157. And I tell you this, this is written for our encouragement.

  158. If you are going to follow the Lord Jesus Christ, and if you're going to walk in step with his Holy Spirit,

  159. and you're going to seek to spread the word, you will have a negative reaction.

  160. It doesn't matter how gracious you will be, how sensitive to your audience, how intelligent, how loving you are,

  161. you will have a negative reaction.

  162. The lovely thing in this passage is that this tactic that Satan uses of persecution and coercion and intimidation

  163. and pressure backfires, doesn't it?

  164. And so there are the apostles stewing away in prison.

  165. And lo and behold, they become bold.

  166. The very people that this is supposed to intimidate, it makes them bolder.

  167. And the word spreads and the word grows.

  168. You find this throughout the Bible.

  169. The authorities, both religious and secular, lock up Christians, and the Christians keep talking about the gospel.

  170. And the word spreads.

  171. So here in chapter 4 of Acts, you've got conflict.

  172. And the conflict is basically between human authority and the authority of God.

  173. I've divided the chapter into two.

  174. You've got the long court scene from verses 5 to 12.

  175. And I've called that the failure of human power.

  176. And so what you have here is the priests and the Sadducees and the Sanhedrin council.

  177. Motivated by their own power and by their own position.

  178. And then you have Peter and John motivated by the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

  179. And as I said to you earlier, these two things will always come into conflict.

  180. As we go through this, it is good to examine ourselves.

  181. What are we motivated?

  182. Am I motivated by power or position or public opinion?

  183. Because if I'm motivated by those things, it will always put me into conflict with the risen Jesus.

  184. And as it begins in verses 5, 6, and 7, it sends a shiver down our spine.

  185. Peter and John are brought up, aren't they, by the very men who executed Jesus.

  186. The temple is controlled by one family.

  187. The temple mafia.

  188. It was headed up by the godfather who is Annas, the high priest.

  189. He's the high priest between 6 and 50 AD.

  190. Five of his sons become high priests.

  191. One son-in-law and one grandson.

  192. Every high priest until the fall of Jerusalem in AD 66 was part of this family.

  193. They're the mob.

  194. And they draw Peter and John out before them.

  195. And in verse 7, they say, here's the key.

  196. Can you see it?

  197. Verse 7.

  198. By what power?

  199. By what name did you do this?

  200. The issue, do you remember, is power and authority.

  201. They see this, don't they, as a matter of jurisdiction.

  202. What the apostles are doing and what they're preaching, it threatens their structures.

  203. And their concern is not whether the miracle actually happened.

  204. They don't deny that.

  205. Their concern is not whether the resurrection of the Lord Jesus actually took place.

  206. Their concern is not with the truth at all.

  207. Their concern is, have you got your coaching badges?

  208. By what authority do you do this?

  209. On what authority, by what power do you act and speak?

  210. Who gave you the right to speak like you do?

  211. How dare you go outside of our jurisdiction?

  212. Here is Peter, who two months before, in the very same place, denied Jesus Christ.

  213. Do you remember?

  214. He was afraid of being exposed by a teenage girl.

  215. Do you remember?

  216. And he denies the Lord Jesus.

  217. And now he stands in front of the most powerful assembly in all of Israel.

  218. And what does he do?

  219. We don't know whether his knees were knocking.

  220. But we do know, don't we, he is respectful and he's forthright and he's truthful.

  221. Even though he's being treated as a common criminal.

  222. And he takes the opportunity to speak the word of God.

  223. And I hope you notice, it only takes him one sentence to get to Jesus.

  224. He says to them, if you're interested in how this miracle took place, the answer is Jesus.

  225. And then when he gets to Jesus, he preaches the gospel.

  226. Look at verse 10 with me.

  227. Let it be known to all of you and to all the people of Israel that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by this man, the sky is standing before you well.

  228. This Jesus, he's a stone that was rejected by you.

  229. The builders, which has become the cornerstone.

  230. And there's salvation in no one else, no other name under heaven, given to man by which we must be saved.

  231. It's a one point sermon with two applications.

  232. Which is very helpful for us preachers.

  233. The one point of the sermon is really the point of nearly all the sermons in Acts.

  234. Your view of Jesus and the way that you've treated Jesus is diametrically opposed to the way that God has.

  235. You crucified him, that's what you thought of him, but God has raised him.

  236. And the resurrection not only shows that Jesus is alive and is able to do miracles, but the resurrection shows you that Jesus is God's anointed Messiah.

  237. He's the king.

  238. That's the point of the resurrection.

  239. He is Lord.

  240. Now again, I don't think that's a very helpful way to defend yourself against the Sanhedrin who didn't even believe in the resurrection.

  241. Jesus is not apologizing.

  242. Peter is not apologizing for Jesus' resurrection.

  243. He's in trouble for preaching it, and then he preaches it again.

  244. And the reason he does that is because even though he knows that the council hate the gospel,

  245. they are not going to come to believe the gospel

  246. until God opens their eyes and opens their ears to it.

  247. And the way that God does that is through the preaching of the gospel.

  248. That as people hear the news of this king Jesus, their eyes and ears are opened.

  249. So he makes two applications.

  250. The first is in verse 11.

  251. He says, you are the builders of the religion in Israel.

  252. But if you leave Jesus Christ out of it, everything that you are building is going to crumble.

  253. He says to them, you might build a very fine edifice of religion with all sorts of things in it,

  254. but unless Jesus Christ is at the center and the heart and the key,

  255. God will not be a part of it, and you will not be transformed by it.

  256. Without the Lord Jesus, everything you're building will crumble.

  257. The second application is in verse 12.

  258. There is no other name under heaven given by God through whom we must be saved.

  259. That's remarkable, isn't it?

  260. He's saying if you reject the risen Jesus, you reject the only salvation that God offers you.

  261. The very name that you wish to extinguish is your only hope.

  262. And all your ceremonies and all your prayers, apart from Jesus, are worthless.

  263. Don't you find that helpful in our kind of pluralist post-modern culture?

  264. That the Apostle Peter should put it this way.

  265. That if Peter is right, if there is salvation in no other name than Jesus,

  266. it means that at the very least, there is no salvation in Muhammad.

  267. And there's no salvation in Buddha.

  268. And there's no salvation in Krishna.

  269. And there's no salvation in yourself.

  270. Because only Jesus has come from God.

  271. And only Jesus has died for our sins.

  272. And only Jesus has been raised from the dead.

  273. And only Jesus will come again in glory.

  274. And it is only through Jesus that God offers forgiveness.

  275. Forgiveness of our sins and the gift of his spirit.

  276. And not just the healing of our bodies one day in glory.

  277. But the healing of the deeper and dreadful disease that all of us suffer with.

  278. That is our sin and our rebellion and our guilt.

  279. It's very bold, isn't it?

  280. And the council, when they hear that, is not a little astonished.

  281. Verse 13.

  282. They take note of their boldness.

  283. Even though these men are amateurs.

  284. They're not theologically trained.

  285. They're laymen.

  286. But they speak with courage.

  287. And they keep on insisting on the resurrection.

  288. And it provides a terrible problem for the council.

  289. Just a little sideline here.

  290. Nowhere in the book of Acts

  291. Did the enemies of the gospel

  292. Try and disprove the resurrection?

  293. Nowhere in the early years

  294. After Jesus was raised from the dead

  295. Do people say, well no, no, it didn't happen.

  296. If there possibly would have been a way

  297. That they could have done that

  298. Surely they would have done that, wouldn't they?

  299. Nowhere do you see

  300. The opponents of the gospel

  301. Ever trying to disprove the resurrection.

  302. In this part

  303. They send Peter out of the room

  304. Out of the council and talk together

  305. And they decide this isn't the best damage

  306. The best bet is damage control

  307. Verse 18

  308. They bring them back in

  309. And they place a gagging order

  310. On Peter and John

  311. They say

  312. We do not want you to mention

  313. Jesus Christ again

  314. When you see this phrase

  315. The name of Jesus

  316. It's not like a lucky charm

  317. It's not if you say

  318. In the name of Jesus

  319. Something magical will happen

  320. The name of Jesus

  321. Is the person of Jesus

  322. It is the specific understanding

  323. Of who Jesus is

  324. That he is the one who was crucified

  325. Died

  326. Buried

  327. Raised in glory

  328. Come again

  329. And by him

  330. God is building

  331. By him

  332. God alone saves

  333. And the Sanhedrin

  334. And the Sanhedrin

  335. Want John

  336. To promise

  337. To keep silent

  338. Because they say

  339. We have the authority

  340. And then we read

  341. In verse 19

  342. It's brilliant isn't it

  343. Peter and John

  344. Answered them

  345. Well whether it's right

  346. In the sight of God

  347. To listen to you

  348. Rather than to God

  349. Well you must judge that

  350. For we cannot

  351. But speak

  352. Of what we've seen

  353. And heard

  354. Peter and John

  355. They're respectful

  356. They're polite

  357. And then they state

  358. Flatly

  359. We will disobey

  360. And they have no idea

  361. What it's going to cost

  362. Them long term

  363. But their obedience

  364. To the Lord Jesus

  365. Outweighs their obedience

  366. To this council

  367. Or any other factor

  368. And so I want to

  369. Point out to you

  370. This morning

  371. Really clearly

  372. That if as Christians

  373. We want to be

  374. Obedient

  375. To God

  376. It will mean

  377. That you must

  378. Be disobedient

  379. To the duly

  380. Appointed lawful

  381. Authorities

  382. Of the church

  383. And of the state

  384. And so if the state

  385. If the government

  386. Call upon you

  387. And me

  388. To do something

  389. That is contrary

  390. Against

  391. The will of God

  392. It is your

  393. Christian duty

  394. To disobey

  395. And that may prove

  396. Isn't it

  397. Very very costly

  398. But be under

  399. No doubt

  400. That when the

  401. Authorities

  402. And God

  403. Collide

  404. For the Christian

  405. We must say

  406. Jesus Christ

  407. Is Lord

  408. That's what this

  409. Passage is about

  410. The conflict

  411. Between human

  412. Authority

  413. And the authority

  414. Of God

  415. When your employer

  416. Says you

  417. Must do this

  418. But it is against

  419. The word of God

  420. The Christian

  421. Will say no

  422. Jesus is Lord

  423. The reason for that

  424. Of course

  425. Is this

  426. Underneath all

  427. Our commitments

  428. Is the great

  429. Commitment to

  430. Jesus Christ

  431. Not all of our

  432. Commitments are

  433. Equal

  434. We seek to live

  435. I hope as good

  436. Citizens of London

  437. And England

  438. We enjoy

  439. Don't we

  440. The benefits

  441. Of generations

  442. That have gone

  443. Before

  444. It's part of

  445. What Remembrance

  446. Sunday is about

  447. But the reason

  448. That we do

  449. That is because

  450. Of a prior

  451. And deeper

  452. Commitment to

  453. Please Jesus

  454. Christ

  455. That's human

  456. Power

  457. Let's move

  458. Secondly and

  459. Briefly

  460. To the success

  461. Of human

  462. Weakness

  463. Verses 23

  464. To 31

  465. As soon as

  466. They're released

  467. Peter and John

  468. They race back

  469. To the church

  470. Community

  471. The fellowship

  472. And the first

  473. Thing they do

  474. Is pray

  475. And there are

  476. Two features

  477. Of the prayer

  478. That are important

  479. For us

  480. First of all

  481. They find refuge

  482. In the complete

  483. Sovereignty

  484. Of God

  485. They don't go to

  486. God and say

  487. Lord everything

  488. Is out of control

  489. It's all gone wrong

  490. They don't say

  491. God you've let us

  492. Down

  493. This hasn't

  494. Turned out

  495. As we'd hoped

  496. They don't go to

  497. God and say

  498. The good guys

  499. Have been arrested

  500. No they pray

  501. Don't they

  502. Sovereign Lord

  503. And the first

  504. Two thirds

  505. Of the prayer

  506. Are them telling

  507. Each other

  508. And God

  509. Of his

  510. Matchless control

  511. They say

  512. Lord you created

  513. All things

  514. Heaven and earth

  515. The mountains

  516. The stars

  517. The sea

  518. And you revealed

  519. Through the mouth

  520. Of your David

  521. That people

  522. Who you've created

  523. Will rage

  524. Against you

  525. And against your

  526. Son Jesus Christ

  527. And that's

  528. Been fulfilled

  529. In our experience

  530. And so it's

  531. Really important

  532. For you and I

  533. Brothers and sisters

  534. This morning

  535. That when wicked

  536. Things happen

  537. The sovereignty

  538. Of God

  539. Hasn't been

  540. Turned aside

  541. The sovereignty

  542. Of God

  543. He doesn't

  544. Turn his back

  545. And allow things

  546. To happen

  547. While he's not

  548. Looking

  549. Nor is it

  550. So much

  551. That God's

  552. Sovereignty

  553. Works around

  554. Wickedness

  555. But what the

  556. Apostles are

  557. Saying here

  558. Is really

  559. Important

  560. It's saying

  561. That the

  562. Very wickedness

  563. Of men

  564. And women

  565. Promotes

  566. And prospers

  567. The purposes

  568. Of God

  569. And they

  570. Remember

  571. Don't they

  572. Verse 27

  573. And 28

  574. The crucifixion

  575. Of Jesus

  576. As an act

  577. Of desperate

  578. Wickedness

  579. Where the

  580. Sinless

  581. Son of

  582. God

  583. Is put

  584. To death

  585. By a

  586. Plot

  587. And they

  588. Know that

  589. Even through

  590. That

  591. God is

  592. Working his

  593. Salvation

  594. So what's

  595. The worst

  596. Day that

  597. This world

  598. Has ever

  599. Known

  600. What's the

  601. Worst day

  602. That this

  603. World has

  604. Ever

  605. Known

  606. It's

  607. The day

  608. When Jesus

  609. Christ

  610. Was crucified

  611. Isn't it

  612. It's the

  613. Day when

  614. They killed

  615. The author

  616. Of life

  617. When they

  618. Put the

  619. Son of

  620. God

  621. In his

  622. Humanity

  623. To death

  624. It's the

  625. Worst sin

  626. That's ever

  627. Been committed

  628. But what's

  629. The best

  630. Day in

  631. The history

  632. Of the

  633. World

  634. What's

  635. The best

  636. Day in

  637. The history

  638. Of the

  639. World

  640. It is

  641. The day

  642. When Jesus

  643. Christ

  644. The Lamb

  645. Of God

  646. Was crucified

  647. And that is

  648. The shape

  649. Of every

  650. Event ever

  651. Since

  652. I don't

  653. Know what

  654. Your circumstances

  655. Are this

  656. Morning

  657. I don't

  658. Know what

  659. You're

  660. Facing

  661. But the

  662. Arm of

  663. God is

  664. Not

  665. Shorter

  666. Today

  667. Than it

  668. Was

  669. On the

  670. Day of

  671. Crucifixion

  672. And God

  673. In his

  674. Sovereignty

  675. Today

  676. Is no

  677. Less

  678. Than it

  679. Was at

  680. Peter and

  681. John's

  682. Trial

  683. And he

  684. Is working

  685. All things

  686. For the

  687. Glory of

  688. His

  689. Son

  690. And you

  691. If you've

  692. Trusted in

  693. His

  694. Son

  695. Can rest

  696. In that

  697. And that's

  698. Why they

  699. Pray about

  700. His sovereignty

  701. And that's

  702. Why they

  703. Pray to

  704. His sovereignty

  705. And the

  706. Second feature

  707. Of the

  708. Prayer is

  709. What do

  710. They pray

  711. For

  712. Verses

  713. 29 and

  714. 30

  715. It's

  716. Really

  717. Interesting

  718. Isn't

  719. It

  720. What do

  721. They pray

  722. For

  723. They don't

  724. Pray for

  725. Deliverance

  726. And they

  727. Don't

  728. Pray for

  729. Protection

  730. And they

  731. Don't

  732. Pray for

  733. Safety

  734. And they

  735. Don't

  736. Pray

  737. Lord give

  738. Us a

  739. Quiet life

  740. And look

  741. After us

  742. They

  743. Pray for

  744. Boldness

  745. The

  746. Very

  747. Thing that

  748. Got them

  749. Into

  750. Trouble in

  751. The

  752. First

  753. Place

  754. Was

  755. Their

  756. Boldness

  757. It's

  758. Wonderful

  759. Here

  760. They

  761. Are

  762. They

  763. See

  764. That

  765. The

  766. Real

  767. Issue

  768. Is

  769. Not

  770. Their

  771. Comfort

  772. And

  773. Their

  774. Long

  775. Term

  776. Security

  777. And

  778. Their

  779. Life

  780. Goals

  781. The

  782. Real

  783. Issue

  784. For

  785. These

  786. Men

  787. Was

  788. The

  789. Glory

  790. Of

  791. Jesus

  792. Christ

  793. And

  794. The

  795. Primary

  796. Way

  797. That

  798. Jesus

  799. Is

  800. Glorified

  801. Is

  802. Through

  803. The

  804. Spread

  805. Of

  806. The

  807. Gospel

  808. And

  809. If

  810. They

  811. Hadn't

  812. Been

  813. Bold

  814. They

  815. Would

  816. Not

  817. Have

  818. Been

  819. Arrested

  820. And

  821. Now

  822. They

  823. Pray for

  824. More

  825. Boldness

  826. It's

  827. Unnatural

  828. Don't

  829. You

  830. Think

  831. They

  832. Don't

  833. Just

  834. Pray

  835. That

  836. They

  837. Be

  838. Faithful

  839. The

  840. Aim

  841. Of

  842. These

  843. Early

  844. Christians

  845. Was

  846. That

  847. They

  848. Would

  849. Be

  850. Obedient

  851. And

  852. Jesus

  853. Christ

  854. Had

  855. Called

  856. Them

  857. To

  858. Be

  859. Witnesses

  860. They

  861. Don't

  862. Just

  863. Pray

  864. That

  865. They

  866. Would

  867. Stand

  868. Still

  869. As

  870. A

  871. Church

  872. That

  873. They

  874. Would

  875. Be

  876. Kept

  877. They

  878. Pray

  879. That

  880. They

  881. Would

  882. Move

  883. Forward

  884. With

  885. The

  886. Word

  887. Of

  888. God

  889. And

  890. God's

  891. Will

  892. For

  893. Us

  894. As

  895. A

  896. Church

  897. Family

  898. Is

  899. Not

  900. Just

  901. That

  902. We

  903. Would

  904. Be

  905. Kept

  906. It

  907. Is

  908. Not

  909. Just

  910. That

  911. We

  912. Would

  913. Be

  914. Faithful

  915. It

  916. Is

  917. Not

  918. Just

  919. That

  920. We

  921. Would

  922. Stand

  923. But

  924. We

  925. Would

  926. Move

  927. Forward

  928. With

  929. The

  930. Word

  931. Of

  932. God

  933. God

  934. Because

  935. You

  936. And

  937. You

  938. And

  939. I

  940. Are

  941. Caught

  942. Up

  943. In

  944. The

  945. Same

  946. Conflict

  947. Today

  948. And

  949. Satan's

  950. Desire

  951. Is

  952. Exactly

  953. The

  954. Same

  955. Is

  956. Silence

  957. The

  958. Gospel

  959. Our

  960. Culture

  961. Takes

  962. Great

  963. Pride

  964. In

  965. Kind

  966. Of

  967. Having

  968. Outgrown

  969. All

  970. Forms

  971. Of

  972. Religious

  973. Intolerance

  974. At

  975. At

  976. At

  977. That's

  978. What

  979. It

  980. Thinks

  981. And

  982. Yet

  983. Religious

  984. Intolerance

  985. Shows

  986. Itself

  987. Doesn't

  988. It

  989. In

  990. Different

  991. Ways

  992. The

  993. Media

  994. Take

  995. Every

  996. Opportunity

  997. They

  998. Can

  999. To

  1000. Persecute

  1001. The

  1002. Message

  1003. Of

  1004. Jesus

  1005. Subtly

  1006. And

  1007. Often

  1008. In

  1009. Entertaining

  1010. ways

  1011. And

  1012. We

  1013. Might

  1014. Not

  1015. Be

  1016. Imprisoned

  1017. We're

  1018. Very

  1019. Unlikely

  1020. To

  1021. Be

  1022. Imprisoned

  1023. But

  1024. We

  1025. Do

  1026. Run

  1027. The

  1028. To

  1029. To

  1030. Silence

  1031. The

  1032. Gospel

  1033. And

  1034. So

  1035. As

  1036. I

  1037. Finish

  1038. Two

  1039. Things

  1040. Alright

  1041. I

  1042. Want to

  1043. Leave

  1044. You

  1045. With

  1046. Two

  1047. Things

  1048. Alright

  1049. First

  1050. Of

  1051. All

  1052. This

  1053. Do

  1054. Not

  1055. Fear

  1056. But

  1057. Rest

  1058. On

  1059. God's

  1060. Sovereign

  1061. Power

  1062. Do

  1063. Not

  1064. Fear

  1065. But

  1066. Rest

  1067. On

  1068. God's

  1069. Sovereign

  1070. Power

  1071. And

  1072. Grace

  1073. And

  1074. So

  1075. Maybe

  1076. Today

  1077. You

  1078. Feel

  1079. Very

  1080. Anxious

  1081. And

  1082. Tearful

  1083. Maybe

  1084. It

  1085. Feels

  1086. Like

  1087. It's

  1088. A

  1089. Little

  1090. Bit

  1091. Out

  1092. Of

  1093. Control

  1094. And

  1095. When

  1096. There's

  1097. Conflict

  1098. And

  1099. When

  1100. There's

  1101. Opposition

  1102. And

  1103. You

  1104. Don't

  1105. Know

  1106. The

  1107. Way

  1108. Ahead

  1109. It's

  1110. Natural

  1111. Isn't

  1112. It

  1113. To

  1114. Feel

  1115. Fearful

  1116. Later

  1117. On

  1118. In

  1119. This

  1120. Book

  1121. Of

  1122. Acts

  1123. The

  1124. Apostle

  1125. Paul

  1126. Says

  1127. To

  1128. Some

  1129. New

  1130. Christians

  1131. He

  1132. Says

  1133. It's

  1134. Through

  1135. Many

  1136. Trials

  1137. That

  1138. We

  1139. Must

  1140. Enter

  1141. The

  1142. Kingdom

  1143. Of

  1144. God

  1145. But

  1146. It

  1147. Is

  1148. The

  1149. Kingdom

  1150. Of

  1151. God

  1152. And

  1153. It

  1154. Is

  1155. Under

  1156. The

  1157. Rule

  1158. Of

  1159. King

  1160. Jesus

  1161. Who

  1162. Is

  1163. Risen

  1164. From

  1165. The

  1166. Dead

  1167. And

  1168. He

  1169. Is

  1170. Lord

  1171. And

  1172. He

  1173. Still

  1174. Reigns

  1175. And

  1176. He

  1177. Is

  1178. Sovereignly

  1179. Committed

  1180. To

  1181. His

  1182. Purposes

  1183. And

  1184. I

  1185. Want

  1186. To

  1187. Say

  1188. This

  1189. Morning

  1190. God

  1191. Will

  1192. Provide

  1193. And

  1194. He

  1195. Will

  1196. Care

  1197. For

  1198. Us

  1199. And

  1200. Therefore

  1201. Each

  1202. Of

  1203. Us

  1204. In

  1205. Our

  1206. Different

  1207. Circumstances

  1208. Must

  1209. Rest

  1210. On

  1211. His

  1212. Sovereign

  1213. Power

  1214. And

  1215. On

  1216. His

  1217. Sovereign

  1218. Grace

  1219. Do

  1220. Not

  1221. Fear

  1222. And

  1223. Then

  1224. Secondly

  1225. !

  1226. Do

  1227. Not

  1228. Be

  1229. Silenced

  1230. But

  1231. Pray

  1232. For

  1233. Boldness

  1234. Because

  1235. Opposition

  1236. And

  1237. Hardship

  1238. Can

  1239. Either

  1240. Make

  1241. You

  1242. More

  1243. Timid

  1244. Can't

  1245. It

  1246. Or

  1247. More

  1248. Bold

  1249. And

  1250. I

  1251. Don't

  1252. Know

  1253. What

  1254. Boldness

  1255. Looks

  1256. Like

  1257. For

  1258. You

  1259. In

  1260. Your

  1261. Circumstances

  1262. It

  1263. Will

  1264. Be

  1265. Different

  1266. For

  1267. What

  1268. It

  1269. Looks

  1270. Like

  1271. For

  1272. Me

  1273. But

  1274. Can

  1275. I

  1276. Encourage

  1277. You

  1278. In

  1279. Your

  1280. Prayers

  1281. And

  1282. In

  1283. Your

  1284. Family

  1285. And

  1286. In

  1287. Your

  1288. Circle

  1289. Of

  1290. Influence

  1291. That

  1292. You

  1293. Would

  1294. Be

  1295. Bold

  1296. Because

  1297. If

  1298. Jesus

  1299. Christ

  1300. Has

  1301. Died

  1302. And

  1303. Is

  1304. Risen

  1305. And

  1306. If

  1307. God

  1308. Is

  1309. Sovereign

  1310. We

  1311. Have

  1312. The
