William James, the father of American psychology and one of the fathers of the
-
philosophy of pragmatism, once said this, if you change your mind, you
-
can change your life. That's profound. If you can change your mind,
-
you can change your life. He also said, be not afraid of life.
-
Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the
-
fact and a third nugget of wisdom from doctor William James, Thoughts become perception,
-
perception becomes reality. Alter your thoughts, alter your reality. It is
-
a fact that we tend to shape our future by how we interpret our past.
-
The facts of what happened to us goes to the filter of our mind,
-
our attitudes, and we create a future based on our interpretation what's happened
-
to us. The Swiss psychiatrist doctor Paul Turnyan, in his book Guilt and
-
Grace, shared from his many years of clinical psychology some important observations about guilt.
-
How many of you have ever felt guilty about something? Do you ever
-
have people you hang around with just make you feel guilty just being around them?
-
Okay, I mean I don't like sending people on guilt trips, and
-
I like people trying to send me on a guilt trip. How many of
-
you are in that camp? Some of you need therapy, psychopy, Okay,
-
I mean, look, we experience guilt. We should not be in
-
the business of trying to make other people feel a lot of it. Now,
-
he discovered that there are two central kinds of guilt, the guilt that
-
is horizontal and the guilt that is vertical. What do you mean by that.
-
Horizontal guilt is the guilt we feel when we wrong another person, or
-
we think we have wronged them, or they convince us that we have wronged
-
them. It's that kind of relational guilt that we have with people here in
-
the human playing. It's horizontal guilt. It's that kind of guilt. It's
-
possible to feel guilty when you aren't guilty at all. Have you ever felt
-
guilty for something you really shouldn't have felt guilty about? No, okay,
-
I think your guilt latent. People today, we're gonna work with you.
-
You know, this is the power of the mind, the power of someone
-
to oppress you by controlling your mind so that you feel guilty when you didn't
-
need to feel guilty. Vertical guilt is what we feel when we let God
-
down. So horizontal guilt is the human plain. Vertical guilt is what we
-
feel when we let God down in our minds, or we think we've let
-
God down. Sometimes we don't let God down, we feel guilty. It's
-
the kind of guilt that makes a person feel like God is far away.
-
You ever feel like God is far away in your life, He's just not
-
there. I have. The Swiss psychiatrist doctor Paulternier observed rightly that we frail,
-
flawed human beings tend to confuse horizontal guilt with vertical guilt. What we
-
feel as we experience guilt in our relationships with others affects how we interact with
-
God. Feel guilt toward God when we feel guilt from others or for others.
-
And so guilt is a messy thing sorting through it is tough stuff.
-
When you let a brother, a sister, or mom or a dad down,
-
they are disappointed with you. It's altogether human to feel that you have
-
let God down too. I mean, when David killed your eye the head
-
tide, he says against the only by sin, and that is what is
-
evil in thy sight. He went immediately from the horizontal to the vertical.
-
We do that we confuse horizontal guilt with vertical guilt. We see God in
-
the actions, the failures and successes of others, the judgments of friends,
-
of family, and of significant people in our lives on the horizontal plane of
-
human relationships is often mixed with how we see God in his attitude toward us
-
on the vertical plane. So we are messed up in how we interact with
-
God and others because of guilt. A child who is raised by an overbearing
-
and manipulative mother will have a view of God that is often harsh and distance
-
and insecure. A child whose father leaves them or abandoned them at an early
-
age when they are older will have a hard time believing that God will not
-
leave or abandon them. Because Dad left them, Maybe God leaves me too.
-
A wife with an unfaithful husband who's hurt by a divorce she never asked
-
for man time have a hard time believing that God will be faithful, that
-
God will hang in there, that God will not leave her, and so
-
we confuse the horizontal with the vertical. The childhood victim of deep trauma,
-
I mean, there are people here in the church today that have been victimized
-
by childhood deep trauma, and you don't have to raise your hand. But
-
the childhood victim of deep trauma will carry that deep trauma into their relationship with
-
God. And somehow, the God who knows and understands it all, will
-
have to sort it out in the life of the one who comes to God
-
with the tears and the fears that only God can understand. It is good
-
news that Jesus never turned away the person who comes to God with their tears
-
and their fears. Did you hear me? He doesn't turn away that person.
-
The great therapist, the great healer, the great comforter who works with
-
the other comforter is Jesus Christ, and he's in the business of healing the
-
human race. This is why Christ's name is called wonderful counselor we need a
-
wonderful counsel in our lives. There's a true story found in Luke thirteen of
-
a woman who came to the synagogue to be with God in her infirmity.
-
She came to church because she was sick. She came to church with her
-
sickness. The church she came to didn't seem to offer much hope but she
-
came, and that is a very good thing that she showed up. She
-
suffered from an illness for many years that affected her relationship with God. It
-
was the kind of illness that cannot easily be diagnosed by doctors or pastors or
-
rabbis or psychological shrinks. But it was real. It was an illness nonetheless,
-
and she knew she had it. Others couldn't tell, but she had
-
it. She came to the synagogue, she knew, and the synagogue means
-
a place of gathering. She came to the gathering place of God's people,
-
and the ruler of the synagogue didn't know that she was really sick inside.
-
Sometimes preachers can't figure out what's going on inside your head. We can't read
-
minds. Sometimes we got our own issues and it's hard to tell. She
-
came to the synagogue and she knew that maybe maybe there something could happen.
-
But over the years she settled into her church family at the synagogue with that
-
infirmity. It was just part of her life, an illness hard to recognize,
-
hard to live with, hard to heal, a sickness that most people
-
would never know was there at all, Yet it was there. Inside of
-
her turned to Luke thirteen, verse ten. Here it is introduced. Now
-
he Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath. Now,
-
if I to ask you next week what day to Christ preach and teach each,
-
would it be Sunday or Sabbath Sabbath? Now the day before, the
-
week before Christ died on the Mount of Olives, he said, pray,
-
your flight will not be on the Sabbath, for then there will be great
-
tribulation in winter on the Sabbath. He put the Sabbath with importance all the
-
way to the end of time, just before he died. Now, if
-
you're going to change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday, why would you do
-
that? So the Sabbath was a big deal in jesus worship experience. He
-
came and taught in the synagogues on the Sabbath. And behold verse eleven,
-
there was a woman who had a spirit of infirmity eighteen years and was bent
-
over and could in no way raise herself up. Luke is careful to record
-
that Jesus was teaching in an unnamed synagogue on the Sabbath day. He started
-
his ministry after his temptation in the wilderness in the synagogue on the Sabbath day.
-
That is how he taught. That's how his apostles taught. After he
-
died. On the Sabbath day, in the synagogue and Christ and Luke fourr
-
opened up the Girl of Isaiah the Prophet, and he read from it the
-
very prophecy that pointed forward to the beginning of his ministry. And he claimed
-
that the prophecy was fulfill that very day. In their hearing, Luke four
-
eighteen he said, the spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he
-
has anointed me to preach the Gospel to the poor. He has sent me
-
to heal the broken hearted, to proclaim liberty of the captives, recovering of
-
sight to the blind, to set it liberty those who are pressed, to
-
proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord. This is the year it reverses.
-
This is the year the damage is fixed. This is the year the devil
-
loves out. When I gained control of the planet, when I saved souls
-
instead of losing them. This is the good year of God's favor. Christ
-
didn't champion political causes. You say, wait a second, Pastor Mike he
-
didn't. He was not a social activist, did you know that? So
-
he's not using this to create liberation theology. He's using this to show what
-
he was going to do and the power of the Holy Spirit to save men
-
and women for God's kingdom. Christ championed the cause of meeting a person's needs
-
for God's glory. He championed the cause of saving the individual. Christ did
-
lift one finger to overthrow the Roman Empire because of social injustice. And yet
-
Jesus cast out demons by the finger of God, which is the Holy Spirit
-
of God. And that is a good thing. It overturned evil empires.
-
The Holy Spirit's work in the lives of individuals. People who never heard a
-
word of the good News of the Gospel in their lives heard Jesus teach and
-
preach the good news of a God who loves us, the good news of
-
a God who sent his son to die on the cross for us, the
-
good news of a God who can take any wretched person in any slime pit
-
of the earth, and transformed their life for eternity. Christ healed the broken
-
hearted, He set the captives free. The Holy Spirit, the power of
-
God, the finger of God was operative in his life, and he healed
-
the blind, both physically and spiritually. Christ set his people free. You
-
know why did Christ come? Christ came because God loves people, the Lord
-
of hosts, the Lord of people loves people, and all the people who
-
were oppressed, and he came right to the most depressed place on planet Earth,
-
the realm of Galilee, of the Gentiles, Nazareth, and all the
-
people who were oppressed by Satan, and Satan's human minions who often helping oppress
-
people. You know, you can be an agent of Satan if you try
-
to work to make someone else's life miserable. To make a point, you're
-
an agent of Satan. There are plenty of people like that in the world.
-
Christ came to set his people free, all the people who were oppressed
-
by Satan, and he did it. And Glatians five to one Paul says,
-
for freedom, Christ is set is free. Think about that. For
-
freedom, Christ is set is free. And that's exactly what Jesus did with
-
the gods on the Sabbath day. He preached the truth of a God of
-
love, and people were set free by the truth. Immediately after Jesus escaped
-
from the religious mob at Nazareth. You see, when he read that verse,
-
he sat down and said, today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing.
-
You know what they did. They got a religious mob and they tried
-
to throw him off the cliff, and Christ escaped. And immediately after he
-
did that, Jesus immediately went down to Capernaum. Capernaum means the covering of
-
compassion or the atonement of compassion. The word copper c ap r. We
-
get a word Yom Kippur, the day of atonement, from that nam is
-
the Nacham in Hebrew means compassion, the covering, the atonement of compassion.
-
He went to a place that needed compassion. He went to a place that
-
needed the atonement that was named this, but didn't have it. In the
-
synagogue in Capernaum. On the Sabbath day, Jesus cast a demon out by
-
the power of God. Sometimes deemens go to church on the Sabbath day,
-
Jeremy. Sometimes demons go to church on the Sabbath day, where people who
-
should act like saints can be controlled by devils if their attitudes are wrong.
-
You see, attitudes matter more important than the correctness of your theology. Is
-
the attitude of your mind and heart and how you relate to others. The
-
synagogue in Jesus day had become a synagogue of Satan full of demons. According
-
to Revelation eighteen one to three, the same thing will happen to the Church
-
Universal, the Mother Church and her daughters at the time of the end,
-
She'll become a dwelling place of demons. The same had happened in Jesus Day
-
in the synagogues. I've seen ancient floor mosaics with the signs of the zodiac
-
on the floors of Jewish synagogues dating back to Jesus time, and so we
-
know they had mixed pagan religions the worship of the pagan gods and put it
-
right there on the floor of the synagogues. It was an eclected era in
-
Judaism were magic, sorcery, communication with evil spirits became part of Judaism.
-
And Christ came to that messed up church to set the captives free the demon
-
in luke For the demon in Lukefur recognized Jesus, and many demons cried out
-
as Us not an Ee at first us because the demons who took over that
-
man could not think of themselves as an individual, nor would they allow him
-
to be that. Then the demon spoke his eye, but only the eye
-
and the sense of the collective. First they said, let us alone,
-
did you come to destroy us? And then they spoke as an eye,
-
but only eye and the sense of the collective, which is the us of
-
the collective and modern communism that is legion. Some people say, why did
-
you bring up communism here? Because communism is a philosophy that was raised up
-
after the French Revolution that has killed one hundred million people, because it believes
-
that us is more important. And then I that the person doesn't matter.
-
And if you ever read Karl Marx's Communist Manifesto, and I have, it's
-
only about fifty pages long, as you don't need a PhD. To read
-
it. You come to the end of it. He calls for a bloody
-
revolution. Christ doesn't kill people to get his way. The love of God,
-
the truth of God is meant to transform to life and the heart.
-
And you know, we, as seventh a Haavens, have no business affiliating
-
with any social movement or cause that has communist roots, because it's an atheistic,
-
materialistic philosophy that is identified arising in the Book of Relation and Revelation of
-
Love, and at the end of the Middle Ages, we should have nothing
-
to do with it, you know. I the cause that I want to
-
be a part of at the time of the end is the Three Angels messages.
-
I want to preach the Everlasting Gospel. I want men and women to
-
be set free. I want a warning of the mark of the beast.
-
I don't want to talk about the Church as much as I want to talk
-
about Jesus, but I do and identify the remnant Church and Bible prophety so
-
that men and women can find their way at the time of the end.
-
The demons would have any philosophy come into the church and mess us up,
-
so we cannot proclaim the Bible as we ought to in our time. The
-
value of a person is always lost in the strident march of the many to
-
oppress the person and the individual for the sake of the many. Dear heart,
-
Jesus died for persons. Wrap your heart and head around that he died
-
for you, as if no one else exists, because you matter to God
-
more. Karl Marx called for death and destruction, a revolution of sorts,
-
so that the many. The rights of the many would be preserved and the
-
rights of the few would be surrendered. That's how the demons operate as legion.
-
They kill the one for the good of the many. They said,
-
we are legion many. A demon has come into the heart of a weak
-
soul wounded by trauma and sin, resentment, anger, fear, childhood,
-
trauma. The devil will work with that to get into a person's life and
-
make a mess out of them with the and he comes with the false claim
-
of freedom, that if you get into this lifestyle, you leave God and
-
you go into that, that you'll be free. And it just leaves to
-
a deeper, deeper spiral into sin. I say this forthrightly based on the
-
evidence of the Testament. Jesus and demons don't get along. Beware if you
-
keep the company of demons, and if you want Jesus, let him get
-
rid of them. Jesus did not engage a demon in conversation, Luke,
-
for youn't never find Jesus debating with the devil. You never find Jesus having
-
a long conversation of theology. You find Jesus casting them out to look at
-
Luke four thirty five but Jesus rebuked him, saying, be quiet and come
-
out of him. And when the demon had thrown him in the midst it
-
came out of him and did not hurt him. And then they were all
-
amazed and spoken amon themselves, saying, what a word is this? For
-
with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.
-
I don't know about you, but I need authority and power every morning when
-
I wake up, because I discover when I look in the mirror, I
-
don't have authority and power to control my life. Are you that way?
-
My life would quickly descend if it were not. In the morning, I
-
say, Lord, take me, make consecrate my life. I am a
-
sinner by nature, I can be a sinner by deed. Help me to
-
live for others. Made the Cross of Christ cover me and make me a
-
loving Christian, not a mean one. That's a basic kind of prayer to
-
pray in the morning. That is, you know, so Jesus immediately the
-
demon came out. That is one way Jesus set the captives free. He
-
just said, be quiet and come out. Jesus cast out demons with authority
-
for the glory of God. The woman Luke thirteen, was not demon possessed.
-
This is all backdrop material. Her condition was different than this. She
-
was oppressed. You see, the devil can possess a person, but he
-
can also, through his angels and others, oppress people. This woman was
-
oppressed. Her internal state of mind had been altered by something external. Luke
-
thirteen, ten and eleven noticed the text. Now he was teaching in one
-
of the cityagogues on the Sabbath, and behold there was a woman who had
-
a spirit of infirmity eighteen years was bent over and could in no way raise
-
herself up. Luke is careful to record, doctor Luke. He records that
-
she had a spirit of infirmity the Greek is literally she had a spirit of
-
weakness, a spirit of weakness. Friend, Jesus came to this world to
-
set the captive is free. Jesus cast out demons to set people free.
-
But you know what, he had to deal with a different kind of slavery
-
in this woman's life. Demon possession is not how Satan works on everybody.
-
Most people are not demon possessed. Demons are evil spirits with evil attitudes.
-
In fact, why don't you repeat that with me. Demons are evil spirits
-
with evil what attitudes? Demons often introduce those evil attitudes into people's lives.
-
You get hurt and so soone. I got hurt. I got hurt by
-
them. They've hurt my feelings. And then you get it a pity spiral.
-
I feel so sorry for myself? What kind of person would do that
-
to me? And you get mad and name you ever do that? No,
-
you never do that. See, but an attitude changes who you are
-
if you own it long enough. So demons can't introduce evil attitudes in people's
-
lives through proxies or directly. And when this happens, people are oppressed,
-
and in time they can be controlled by evil attitudes in their lives. Christ
-
came to set us free from wrong thinking, from wrong feelings, so that
-
we are truly free. This woman had a spirit or attitude of weakness.
-
She was oppressed so that she became changed on the inside. Who knows who
-
put her down in life, so that she came to believe that she was
-
helpless and weak. That's how she felt, I'm helpless and weak. Maybe
-
she was born into a family perfectionists, where everybody had to be perfect to
-
measure up. You didn't wash your hands right, Little Johnny should have hung
-
the talent better. And you hear that like forty times in one day,
-
and a child just goes, I want to get out of the house right.
-
Or maybe perfectionistic theology was thrown at the child. Well, if you
-
don't get perfect enough for Jesus coming, you're gonna not make it and all
-
that stuff, And so kids get feeling that God's weighing them every five minutes
-
and if they mess up, they're gonna be lost. That kind of junk
-
theology wrecks kids, and it wrecks families. So maybe she came from a
-
place like that in Judaism. Maybe she was maybe a self centered father or
-
mother wore her down with constant complaining about how she was a failure in life.
-
Maybe she was laughed at by bullies. Have you ever been laughed at
-
by a bully in school? You had? It feels awful, doesn't it.
-
Boy, I was laughed at by a bully who was a girl once.
-
It's bad when you can't stand up to a bully who's a girl.
-
I was thin and lanky as a kid. Bullies come in all forms.
-
Maybe she was laughed at by bullies at school, or in the neighborhood,
-
all around. Maybe someone abused her and led her into sin, like Mary
-
Magdalene, so that guilt and shame overtook her in life. We don't know
-
what it was that gave her this spirit and attitude of weakness, but she
-
said she had it as an infirmity of the mind and of the heart for
-
a long time. It was a deep pattern in There are certain people today
-
who are sick all the time now legitimately, so there are people who have
-
illnesses, who have genetic predispositions, whose lives are characterized by real illnesses.
-
I'm not talking about that. But then there are people who get sick because
-
they're weak inside their mind and heart and emotions. They need to be sick,
-
they need to be weak because they draw love or they think something like
-
it from others attention maybe, and so in that sense of weakness they find
-
some kind of connection, like a helpless baby crying out for a mother or
-
father to soothe them. Adults can bring these insecurities into life, but they
-
have to be resolved in our relationship with God. And so this woman evidently
-
didn't have enough comfort, intervention and the like to heal her from the spirit
-
and attitude of weakness. A weak person can live on the food of others
-
pity when their wounded ego plays the role of a victim. Does God call
-
us to be victims in the church? Does he not? At all?
-
We should not in the least encourage that kind of thinking in men and women
-
who come to church. A person cannot accept a person excuse me. A
-
person can accept weakness instead of strength, an open wound instead of healing,
-
a grudge instead of forgiveness, a life of distress instead of success, and
-
a future without hope and purpose instead of prosperity and meaning, because they come
-
to believe they're a victim and this is something Jesus has to heal in the
-
life. The weak always need the strong to help them, or so they
-
think. God has no intention of any one of his dear children accepting the
-
spirit of weakness in their life. Dear heart, God has not called you
-
to weakness. God has called you to strength in Jesus' name. Take your
-
Bibles and turn of Joel three to them. Marie from two translations, the
-
New King James Version or Revised Standard vers be your plowshares into swords, your
-
pruning hooks into spears. Let the week say, and what does it say?
-
Let the week say I am strong. He doesn't say that. The
-
week say I'm a victim. Let the week say I'm not going to make
-
it. Let the week say I'm strong in Jesus name. Look at Joel
-
three two in the revised Stannard version next verse, be your plowshares and the
-
swords and your pruning hooks into spears. And let the week say, I
-
am a warrior. When you attack life with vitality and energy, because you
-
are a child of God, you are no longer a victim. And look
-
thirteen eleven. Looked records that this woman have been afflicted with the spirit of
-
weakness for eighteen years. And Judges three fourteen. King aguelin of Moab oppressed
-
and enslaved the children of Israel for eighteen years until God raised up Ehu to
-
destroy the enemy. A judge was a military leader who intervened and rescued God's
-
people. That's what the ear of the judges about, not people who sit
-
on a bench and pontificate. Samuel was a military leader of God's people.
-
It was a judge, the last judge before the Kings and Judges ten seven
-
and eight. The Philistines and the children I Am and oppressed and harassed the
-
children of Israel for eighteen years twice until God raised up Jeptha, who was
-
the son of a harlot, to defeat the enemies in the land. God
-
doesn't care where you came from. He'll use you to make a difference if
-
you can be used by God. God raised up Jesus. They thought he
-
was a son of a harlot or some with some you know, marry with
-
their indiscretions, because how could you get pregnant that early before you get married
-
and all that stuff. God raised up Jesus like the judges, to help
-
this poor woman, who symbolized the people of God in every age, who
-
suffer from an attitude of weakness suppressed by satan. Jesus is the true deliverer,
-
the true judge, who sets the oppressed free from an attitude of weakness.
-
We can't help ourselves become strong. You can trial your like I'm gonna
-
be strong, and that's not how it happens. We cannot do it without
-
the power of God. Through a relationship with Jesus Christ in our life.
-
That's how you do it. John says, Jesus is God. In John
-
one one, Sister White makes this point is it is the relevance of Christ,
-
is his humanity, his divinity is what we hang on to to overcome
-
in life. If Christ did not have this capacity, she said, he
-
could not heal us. So it is the divine and the human in one
-
that makes it possible for Jesus to be our savior. So John one just
-
says, in the beginning was the word, The word was with God.
-
The word was God. We need God in Christ, God with Us Emmanuel.
-
It takes divine power in Jesus's name to set the oppressed free. Here's
-
a statement from this prophecy found in the Bible Echo November twelve, eighteen ninety
-
four. It's Post eighteen eighty eight. The weakest child of God, the
-
most depressed, may find in Jesus' hope, mercy and love without a parallel.
-
Faith in Christ brings to us infinite power. What kind of power do
-
you have when you have faith in Christ? What does it say? Infinite
-
power? We may lay hold upon the divine nature, having escaped the corruption
-
that is in the world through lust. Therefore, not one soul needs to
-
faint, not a soul needs to be discouraged. Whatever may be your weakness,
-
however you may be compassed with infirmities, there is hope for you in
-
God, our precious Savior, came to save to the uttermost every soul that
-
will come unto him. He descended to the very depths of human woe for
-
our sake. He became poor, that through his poverty might be made rich,
-
rich in earthly treasured No, he made the world. He made the
-
world is his, and he placed it in its power proper position as subordinate.
-
She goes on to say, God and Eternity are be exalted as supreme
-
to those whose minds are engrossed with earthly things. He lifts the voice of
-
warning. He presents Eternity to review. He opens before you Heaven, the
-
threshold brightened with His glory and the glory streaming through the open door. Thank
-
God, the door is a jar. See Christ is the open door to
-
the glory of God. The power of God in your life and friends,
-
that's glory guaranteed if you have Jesus. Sister White says, the weakest child
-
of God, the most depressed may find in Jesus' hope, mercy and love
-
without parallel. This woman, Luke thirteen, had an infirmity of the mind,
-
a spirit of her attitude of weakness that kept her down in life.
-
As a result, Luke eleven thirteen records that she could not raise her up.
-
She was bent over for eighteen years because of this spirit of weakness inside
-
her mind. Jesus didn't enroll her in a five year psychotherapy plan to heal
-
her. He didn't. Now, I'm not against people who go and seek
-
help. It's valid at times people need counselors. But in her case,
-
that's not what he did. Christ didn't start a grief class on recovery for
-
her, and a grief class is for recovery or a good thing. Christ
-
didn't cycle analyze her deep secrets and sins and write a journal about and send
-
her off to the pharmacy with a minor altering prescription for an imbalance. There
-
are people who need that kind of help. You see, that wasn't her
-
problem. Jesus healed her outright because what needed to change was her frame of
-
mind. He could have healed her from all those other things too, but
-
she had infirmity of the mind, a weakness of mind, of heart,
-
and attitude, and he did it instantly, right there on the spot.
-
You see, friends, it's possible when you action onto Jesus to have a
-
change of mind. That reader acts your life so you can live for God
-
without fear. Look thirteen twelve. Look what it says when Jesus saw her.
-
He called her to him and said to her, woman, you are
-
loosed from your infirmity. And he laid his hand on her, and immediately
-
she was made straight and glorified God. That's an amazing sequence of events.
-
Here. Jesus performed four faith power actions for this woman's recovery. Write these
-
down. I'm gonna go through them. Four faith power actions for this woman's
-
recovery. Faith power action number one. Jesus saw her, doesn't say that
-
he saw her. That's significant. When you're a weak in isolated, the
-
cure starts with being noticed. The cure starts when God casts his eyes on
-
you with love. The cure starts not with you, but with God.
-
Christ saw her at the burning bush. God told Moses that he's not indifferent
-
to the needs of his people, that he has seen what's been going on.
-
Look at Acts seven thirty four. It's quoting Exodus three when God said,
-
I'd surely seen the in fact is the age of the Lord. Here,
-
it's the age of the Lord. Speaking as the Lord in the context
-
patriarchs and prophets, affirms that fact, I have surely seen the oppression of
-
my people who are in Egypt. I have heard their groaning, have come
-
down to deliver them. And now come, I will send you to Egypt
-
Christ as Jehovah Yahweh, God saw haygard. It changed your life forever,
-
and I'll prove it to you. Look at Genesis sixteen, verse eleven.
-
Now follow the verses with me. The Angel the Lord said to who's speaking
-
in verse eleven, it's obvious who is it? What does it say?
-
The Angel of the Lord. Now we just happened to know that that's the
-
pre existent name for Jesus. He's called the Messenger, Angel the Covenant.
-
The Angel of the Lord is the Lord. If you want to find Christ
-
in the old tep not an angel, but the Angel of the Lord.
-
It's Christ. Now, he's not a created being like the Jehovah's witnesses say.
-
He is the Angel of the Lord. Now me demonstrate this to you.
-
The Angel Lord said to her, Behold, you're with child, and
-
you shall bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, which means
-
God hears. Because the Lord has heard your affliction. Go to the next
-
verse, verse twelve. He shall be a wild man that sounds like my
-
son's. He shall be a wild man. His hand shall be against every
-
man, and every man's hand against him, and he shall dwell in the
-
presence of all his brethren. Keep moving. Then she called the name of
-
who. What does it say in the text? Now, how's it spelled
-
in your Bible? Whenever you see L O, R D, all capitalize,
-
It's Jehovah Yahweh. She called the name of Jehovah Yahweh. Who spoke
-
to her? That was the Angel of the Lord. The Angel Lord is
-
the Lord. You are the God who sees. For she said, have
-
I also here seen him who sees me? Now here it's the Angel Lord.
-
And look thirteen and it's Jesus. We listen, dear heart, when
-
Christ looks into your eyes, God is looking at you through Jesus eyes.
-
Seven spirits of God, which are the seven eyes of God, are on
-
the Lamb in the book Revelation. In Revelation of Thought, the Angel the
-
Lord is the Lord who is yeahweh God. In this passage Deuteronomy ninet eighteen,
-
Oh my God, incline your ear and here open your eyes and see
-
our desolations. Daniel knew that God must look at us the city which is
-
called by your name. For we did not present our supplications before you because
-
of our righteous deeds, but because of your great mercies. Oh Lord,
-
here, o Lord, forgive, Oh Lord, haste, listen and act.
-
Do not delay for your own sake. In other words, your characters
-
in play My God, for your city and your people are called by your
-
name. Faith power action number two. Jesus called her to him. All
-
right, he first saw her. That's faith action. That's faith power action
-
number one. But number two Jesus called her to him. When God calls
-
out to you, God's word is operating your life. Let it work for
-
you because God's word can be used by Christ and God to save you.
-
God's word is God's decree that finds you. God's word is God's decree that
-
rebuilds your life. God's word is God's decree that gives you power to overcome
-
evil. God's word is God's decreed that makes you okay for the judgment day
-
because you are justified by faith in Christ alone. God created the universe through
-
Christ with his word. Christ is the living and abiding word of God in
-
the Bible, and he can heal and he can recreate you with the same
-
word of power that He used at the command of his father God to create
-
the universe time space itself. When God calls out to you, dear heart,
-
God saves you if you listen to Him in his word. So do
-
we need the Bible? Yes? Or no? Come on, I don't
-
want to hear a bunch of philosophers tell me how to fix my life.
-
I want Jesus to help me. It's in the word of God now Isaiah
-
forty three one. But now, thus says the Lord. Now, how
-
is it spelled there? Look at your Bible. Whenever you see Lord all
-
capital letters, that's Jehovah. That's Jehovah yahweh. It's two different. Sometimes
-
the Germans called it Jehovah, everybody else calls it Yahweh. So sister White
-
often calls it Jehovah. That was normal in the eighteen hundreds. But that's
-
the name, the divine name of the Lord given him out SINAI I am
-
who I am, Yahweh Jehovah is my name. Thus you to remember me
-
throughout all your generations. So that's the name he used here, the covenant
-
name. But now, thus says Jehovah, the Lord who created you of
-
Jacob and he who formed you Israel, fear not, for I have what
-
what does it say, I've redeemed you. I have called you by your
-
name, your mind and know that's what says. Next, when you pass
-
through the waters, I'm gonna leave you? Is that what it says?
-
What does it say? I will be with you through the rivers? Are
-
they gonna drown you? No, they shall not overflow you. When you
-
walk through the fire, Will it burn you up? You shall not be
-
burned, nor shall the flame scorch you. For why does that happen?
-
Here's why. See, our salvation and redemption is rooted in who God is
-
his character, For I am the Lord. There it is L, O,
-
R, D all capital letters. Jehovah your God. Now this verse
-
says, Jehovah's God. He's our God. So if you're Jehovah, your
-
God, the Holy One of Israel, your savior. Wait a second,
-
Who's our savior? Okay? If the Father's called savior, you know Jesus
-
is called savior too. I gave Egypt for your ransom, Ethiopian Ciba in
-
your place. Faith Power Action number three. Jesus freed her Zachary nine to
-
eleven. As for you also, because of the blood of your covenant,
-
I will set your prisoners. And what does the word say in the Bible,
-
I will set your prisoners what free from the waterless pit Romans eight to
-
two. For the law the spirit of life in Christ. Jesus has set
-
me free from the law of sin and death. Christ was bound and taken
-
to the cross. He was whipped and beat around, but he went to
-
the cross. He set the captives free at the Cross of Calvary. We
-
are told by the hand of Inspiration that Jesus, with his own blood,
-
signed the emancipation papers of the human race, so that the message of God's
-
love and forgiveness would go to the ends of the earth, and that anyone
-
who would call in his name would be saved. He has set the captives
-
free. Faith Action Power Action number four, Jesus touched her and raised her
-
up. You know, it's one thing for God to see you. It's
-
another thing for God to hear you. But when God touches you, it
-
makes all the difference in the world. God sent Jesus in this world so
-
we could feel the touch of God. We could feel it in the touch
-
of Jesus Psalms twenty six to eight. Now I know that the Lord saves
-
is anointed. Now how's that spelled? Lord's Jehovah yahwah. He saves is
-
anointed. He will answer him from his holy heaven with the saving strength of
-
his right hand. Now the hand is that which touches. It also represents
-
power, some trust in chariots, some and horses. But we will remember
-
what now. When it says we remember the name of the Lord, our
-
God, it means the character God's name is who he is. It's his
-
character. They have bowed down and fallen, but we have risen and stand
-
upright, dear heart, when God touches you, he raises you up.
-
Maybe you've been touched or hurt your life by people that you don't even want
-
to talk about. God can touch you and heal you. Let's briefly review
-
the four faith power actions of Jesus that God used to heal this woman.
-
For faith power actions that can heal you also, let's just look at them.
-
Number one Jesus saw her. Number two, Jesus called her to him.
-
Number three Jesus freed her. Number four Jesus touched her and raised her
-
up. And Jesus heals a person in the church. Is always a scandal
-
for the hypocrites, who are more concerned with being right than healing. Somewhat.
-
I mean, people will always make a scandal out of something when a
-
sinner comes to God. Oh you see that person come through the church.
-
You know, you know where they came from. Praise God, they come
-
to the church. Look thirteen fourteen. But the rule of the synagogue answered
-
with indignation. You know here he is, this puffed up defender of what's
-
right. He did it because Jesus had healed on the sabbath. Oh,
-
think of the scandal of that healing someone on the sabbath. And he said
-
of the crowd, there are six days on which men ought to work.
-
He's quoting, you know, the fourth commandment, Sorda, Therefore, come
-
and be healed on them and not on the Sabbath day. It takes a
-
pretty sick person to get angry with Jesus for healing the person on the Sabbath
-
day. Jesus demonstrated that the Sabbath was relevant for the healing of the human
-
race when he healed the woman on the Sabbath day. The rule of the
-
synagogue didn't face Jesus when he spoke to the crowd only and said this.
-
He couldn't look at Jesus when he told the crowd to not come to the
-
synagogue to be healed on the Sabbath day. Show up on other six days,
-
but don't do that during church. He told them not to bother with
-
the Sabbath to be healed. Jesus fired right back with a powerful reputial I
-
like Christ, Christ rattles the boat for hypocrites. I don't want to be
-
one, But Christ rattles the boat. Look what he says in verse fifteen.
-
Lord then answered him and said, hypocryte. Now, if I was
-
say that, you'd call the conference a president. Pastor called me a hypocrite.
-
What did Jesus call the rule of the synagogue hypocrite? Does not each
-
one of you on the Sabbath, loose his ox or donkey from the stall
-
and lead away to water. It so ought not this woman. Now,
-
notice he calls her a woman, not an ox or a donkey. I'm
-
not this woman being a daughter of Abraham whom Satan has bound. Think of
-
it for eighteen years. He's actually saying, start thinking, guy, you're
-
a teacher of the synagogue, but you're not thinking think of it for eighteen
-
years. Be loosed from this bond. On the Sabbath good questions Jesus is
-
asking for Jesus. The Sabbath is the freedom day for Jesus. The Sabbath
-
is the healing day for Jesus. The Sabbath is the first day of a
-
new life after eighteen years of oppression by the devil, a new day of
-
rest when God defeats the enemy in her life. On the Sabbath day,
-
forgiven, free, set for a new purpose in life. God loved that
-
woman. He showed it on the Sabbath day. For Jesus, the Sabbath
-
is the great day. This poor afflicted woman of the Synagogue found grace in
-
favor. She was healed from a spirit of weakness, and she learned from
-
Jesus that she's not a donkey or an ass, but a sweet daughter of
-
Abraham well worth setting free on the holy Sabbath day Luke thirteen seventeen. And
-
when he said these things, boy Jesus said a whole mouthful, didn't he?
-
When he said these things, all his adversaries were put to shame,
-
and all the multitude rejoiced for all the glorious things that were done by him.
-
Glory guaranteed in Jesus on the Sabbath day. Fear begone, weakness begone,
-
any attitude which would enslave us begone, because for freedom Christ has set
-
us free. Their Father, is I bow my head today. I don't
-
ask you to correct our theology right now. I'm asking you to correct our
-
hearts, the mind, and the attitudes. Lord, we need Jesus here
-
in all of our lives. If one person in this church is lost,
-
then the whole church suffers, and eternity will bleed. In a way.
-
Father, help us to realize that you have loved us in Jesus as individuals,
-
that we've been put on this planet to love other people, and that
-
we bring our skill sets, our temperaments. True. But Lord, at
-
the end of the game. We need to be lifting burdens from people's lives,
-
not putting them on them. So Father, help us, help us
-
to grow. May the dear people of God that need to be saved,
-
including us, be saved in Jesus name. And may the calling and mission
-
of Christ to set the captives free be felt this day on the Sabbath day.
-
Thank you in Jesus' name. Amen,
