Very good. Let's open up in prayer. Father God, bless
-
this service, Bless this sermon. Bless your people that are here,
-
that are in listening shot across the internet. Just pray
-
that you would move upon us by your Holy Spirit.
-
Bring us Jesus in Jesus name. Amen.
-
Now if I tell you I have a Hebrew friend,
-
now you might naturally think that I have someone a
-
friend who comes from a distinct culture or language religion.
-
You might say, oh, maybe they have some Jewish ancestry.
-
And that's not necessarily wrong. But the name Hebrew actually
-
means one who transits, one who passes over.
-
The name Hebrew.
-
Comes from the verb a bar, and it means to
-
pass over, to cross over, as in crossing over a river,
-
the terrain, an obstacle. And that makes a lot of
-
sense to me from that perspective, because in the Bible,
-
Abraham is the first Hebrew.
-
And what does he do.
-
He comes out from the earth of the Caldes Babylon,
-
and he what transits. He crosses over a large swath
-
of desert Terraine, and he comes to where Canaan, the
-
promised land. All right, his descendants, the Israelites, they're in
-
bondage in Egypt, and in one night, after they participate
-
and experience the Passover, they transit and cross over from
-
slavery to freedom. Now, over time after the Wilderness, they'll
-
eventually cross over the Jordan River into the Promised Land.
-
And that's the title of the sermon, the Crossover, And
-
that's what I want to talk to you about today,
-
the crossover from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant.
-
Because through Christ and by faith in Christ, we can
-
cross over from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant,
-
and by doing so, we enter into a better.
-
Covenant with God.
-
Now, I promise you, in the next thirty minutes, I'd
-
like to invite you to cross over with me from
-
the Old.
-
Covenant to the New Covenant.
-
And my goal is simply this to strengthen your faith
-
in the superiority of the New Covenant. It's not that
-
the Old Covenant is bad, it's simply inferior to the New.
-
God had to establish the old, which would point to
-
the New. Now, at the end of this you're going
-
to better appreciate the differences between the Old Covenant and
-
the New Covenant. What Christ did for you, what He
-
is currently doing for you. And how the promises are
-
better and enable you to know who God is in
-
an intimate way. Now, before we cross over into the
-
New Covenant, we must first briefly examine the fundamentals of
-
the Old Covenant, and each part of the Old Covenant
-
has its counterpart in the New Covenant. First, let's define
-
some terms a covenant. What is a covenant? Sounds like
-
a fancy name covenant. It's simply an agreement between two parties.
-
Right in the Old Covenant Biblical, the covenant is simply
-
an agreement made between God and man. Now, what exactly
-
was the agreement? What was the covenant? Exodus thirty four
-
to twenty eight says this. So he was there with
-
the Lord forty days and forty nights.
-
This is Moses on Mount Sinai.
-
He did not eat bread or drink water, and he
-
wrote on the tablets the words of the Covenant.
-
The Ten Commandments.
-
Juteronomy four thirteen essentially says the same thing. So he
-
declared to you his covenant, which he commanded you to perform,
-
that is the ten Commandments. And he wrote them two
-
tablets of stone, just like we write an agreement on
-
paper between two people or two parties contract paper. These
-
were written on tablets of stone, something enduring, durable, and
-
they were written on stone tablets, and they were supernaturally inscribed.
-
Exodus thirty one eighteen says this, when he had finished
-
speaking with them on Mount Sign, and he gave Moses
-
the two tablets of the testimony, tablets of stone written
-
by the finger of God. Now some say, well, that
-
was the first set, what about the second set. Well,
-
Deuteronomy ten two says this, I will write on the
-
tablets the words which were on the former tablets which
-
you shattered, and you shall put them in the ark.
-
You see, God alone wrote them with his own finger.
-
He does not delegate that to Moses. That's the agreement.
-
That's the covenant. And eventually that covenant would be placed
-
in the arc of the covenant. Now the Israelites make
-
a promise to keep this covenant Exodus twenty four to three.
-
Then Moses came and recounted to the people all the
-
words of the Lord and all the ordinances.
-
And all the people answered with one voice and said.
-
All the words which the Lord.
-
Has spoken, we will do.
-
The covenant is the ten commandments written on stone tablets,
-
supernaturally by the finger of God and Israelites, and the Israelites.
-
Promise to keep it.
-
Now, there's a few four fundamental aspects of the Old Covenant.
-
What are the terms, in short form, obey and live.
-
Levidigus eighteen, verse four and five.
-
You are to you are to perform my judgments and
-
keep my statutes, to live in accord with them.
-
I am the Lord, your God.
-
So you shall keep my statutes and my judgments, by
-
which a man may live if he does them. I
-
am the Lord Ezekiel twenty eleven. I gave them my
-
statutes and informed them of my ordinances, by which if
-
a man observes them, he will live.
-
What if a man doesn't.
-
Observe them, that's a good question. What are the consequences?
-
Ezekiel eighteen four basically says this, The soul who sins
-
will die. Sin is transgression of the law. Ezekiel eighteen
-
twenty says, the person whose sins will die, the father's
-
not going to die for the sons of the for.
-
The sins of the son.
-
The son is not going to die for the sins
-
of the father. Jeremiah thirty one to thirty says everyone
-
will die for his own iniquity. Everyone dies their own responsibility.
-
A few more aspects of the Old Covenant. The Old
-
Covenant involves a physical sanctuary. God says to Moses, let
-
them construct a sanctuary that I may dwell among them.
-
And the sanctuary was where God dwelt. And because it's
-
the place where God, it's the place where God dwelt.
-
Everything in the sanctuary system was holy. God set apart
-
the Levite tribe. They were holy, they were separate. Their
-
clothing was holy, their food was holy. The whole sanctuary
-
service was holy. The furniture in the sanctuary was holy.
-
Everything was holy about this service.
-
Why is that?
-
Because the sanctuary service was really a process of mediation
-
between God and man, because of sin. Sin separates man
-
from God. And it taught that the law of God
-
is enduring, and that sin against the law of God
-
is a serious offense. And it was through the blood
-
of the animal sacrifices that man could approach a holy God. Now,
-
the physical sanctuary had two parts, a holy place and
-
a most holy place, and it was separated by a veil.
-
God dwelt in the most holy place behind the veil.
-
Let me give you the basic operation of the system.
-
When someone sinned, they'd placed their hands in the lamb.
-
This is just one aspect of the service.
-
And that would symbolically transfer their sin to that animal.
-
And then that lamb was slain and instead of the
-
sinner dyeing, the lamb would die.
-
Now, with all going.
-
Through all the protocols of the service, that blood was
-
then taken into the Holy Place by the priests on
-
a daily basis, and then once a year, that blood
-
was taken into the most Holy Place and sprinkled in
-
the ark of the Covenant to cleanse the sanctuary. Can
-
you imagine the repetition.
-
Involved in this.
-
The Sanctuary Service was in continuous operation. Sacrifices were being
-
made daily. Everyone in Israel would know the seriousness of
-
the affect and the offensive sin. They had to take
-
the life of an animal and shed its blood. Blood
-
was the vital element to make the whole system work.
-
Without blood, the Sanctuary system could not work. Now, this
-
service went on year after year, decade after decade, century
-
after century. It required generation after generation after generation of
-
priests to sustain its operation. Let's review the basic elements
-
of the Old Covenant written by the Finger of God
-
on stone tablets the Ten Commandments. Israel promises to keep
-
them the terms our obey and live.
-
Every man dies for his own sins if not.
-
The Sanctuary had two compartments, a Holy Place and a
-
Most Holy Place. The priests are the only one that
-
can enter into the sanctuary service and even the high
-
priests can only enter into the Most Holy Place, and
-
many priests are required to administer this surface on behalf
-
of people, and blood is the sacrificial element, the substitute animal.
-
The blood of the substitute animal is the vital element
-
to make the system work. That's the old Covenant. Now
-
I should mention this. The New Covenant is the same
-
covenant as the Eternal Covenant. You see, from our perspective
-
as finite human beings, it's new.
-
We go from the old to the new.
-
But from God's perspective in eternity past, he already had
-
purposed in his mind and heart to redeem mankind before
-
the creation of anything. It was only a matter of
-
time to bring it to fruition. Are you ready to
-
cross over with me? We're going to cross over into
-
the New Covenant right now. I remember, each of the
-
elements that we just covered has its counterpart in the.
-
New And what I want to do is I just
-
want to break this into three parts.
-
To understand the superiority of the New Covenant. We're going
-
to break it into three parts. One, what happened at
-
the Cross of Christ. Christ did something for us. Two
-
something happens at the Resurrection, what Christ is continuously doing
-
for us? And then three, I'm want to cover the
-
promises of this New Covenant and how we can know
-
God in an intimate way. Now, the crossover point into
-
the New Covenant happens at the Cross. Rather than every
-
man die for his sins, one man dies for everyone's sins,
-
And rather than many animal sacrifices, only one sacrifice is required,
-
and the blood is sufficient for all time to cleanse
-
the sins. You see in the New Covenant. You don't
-
die for your sins. Christ dies for your sins. He
-
is your substitution. John one twenty nine says this. The
-
next day he saw Jesus coming in to him and said,
-
behold the lamb of God who takes away the sins
-
of the world. Jesus is the sacrificial lamb. He is
-
your substitute. There are not many sacrifices. There is only
-
one sacrifice, and it's sufficient.
-
For all time. Notice what Hebrews.
-
Ten verses nine to twelve says, Then he said, behold,
-
I have come to do your will. He takes away
-
the first in order to establish the second. By this
-
we will have been sanctified through the offering of the
-
body of Jesus Christ once for all. Every priest stands daily,
-
ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which
-
can never take away sins. But he having been offered one,
-
But he, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time,
-
sat down at the right hand of God. The cross
-
is the pivot point between the old and the new.
-
You don't die for your sins. Christ dies for your sins.
-
All the daily and yearly sacrifices in the Old Covenant
-
collapse at the cross, and it's that one single sacrifice
-
is all sufficient for all time to save forever.
-
Now.
-
Just as blood was the vital element in the Old Covenant,
-
it is the decisive and vital element in the New Covenant,
-
because it's required for our salvation, for our redemption. Have
-
you ever thought about this? Why blood? Why did God
-
use blood to do all of this? Because there's life
-
in the blood Deuteronomy twelve twenty three. Only be sure
-
not to eat the blood, for the blood is the life,
-
and you shall not eat the life with the flesh.
-
Right there, blood is life.
-
Notice what Christ says about his body, body, and his
-
blood in John six point fifty three. So Jesus said
-
to them, truly, truly, I say to you, unless you
-
eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink
-
his blood, you have no life in yourselves.
-
You see that blood life verse fifty four.
-
He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has
-
eternal life, and I will raise him up on.
-
The last day.
-
Now I know some Christians innocently believe that during a
-
communion service, which we have next week, that they're actually
-
consuming the body and flesh of Christ. What this verse
-
is saying, No, we appropriate the blood and body of
-
Christ by faith. These are symbols that we take, and
-
by faith we consume the body and blood of Christ.
-
Acts twenty twenty eight says that Christ purchased the church
-
which with his own blood. Ephesians one seven says that
-
we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our
-
trespasses Revelation one to five says that Christ released us
-
from our sins by his blood. Blood is the vital element.
-
We just sang the song today. Power in the blood, right, Oh,
-
that I would be from the burden of sin.
-
There's power in the blood, passion and pride.
-
I'm free that we would know that for certain, that
-
Jesus is our king. You know, if you think you've
-
gone too far, I've sinned, I've done something terrible.
-
The Lord will never forgive me. That's a lie.
-
The blood covers and washes away every sin, every sin.
-
Don't let the devil tempt you or think that your
-
sins cannot be forgiven. They can and are forgiven through
-
the blood of Christ. I've experienced so much guilt and
-
shame for my sins. I can't even begin to tell you,
-
but I look to the blood of Christ because it
-
is the cleansing agent.
-
I'm shameful for my sins. I don't like that I
-
did that. I did it.
-
But you know what, Thank the Lord Jesus Christ that
-
he shed his blood for me. He shed his blood
-
for you. There's nothing that can separate you from the
-
love of Christ. That's what happens at the Cross, Christ
-
died for your sins. All of your sins, past, present,
-
and future were.
-
Placed upon Christ.
-
Now, in the Old Covenant, let's take a look at
-
what happens shortly after the cross at resurrection. Right, let's
-
do a little Bible study right here, real quick, a
-
couple of verses. In the Old Covenant, there were many priests,
-
generation after generation after generation of priest. However, in the
-
New Covenant, Christ becomes our single and only high priest
-
who ministers in the heavenly sanctuary for us. No longer
-
is there in earthly We shift to the heavenly Sanctuary
-
on the first day of the week at the Resurrection.
-
On Resurrection Day, Christ was designated by God as high priest.
-
I can show you this in just a couple of verses.
-
Look at Acts thirteen thirty two, and we preach to
-
you the good news of the promise made to the
-
fathers that God has fulfilled this promise to our children
-
in that watch this in that he raised up Jesus.
-
As it is also written in the second Psalm, you
-
are my son today, I have begotten you. In the
-
context talking today, I have begotten you. That's resurrection Sunday
-
Hebrews five to five will affirm this. Notice this so also,
-
Christ did not glorify himself so as to become high priest.
-
But he who said to him you are my son.
-
Today I have begotten you, just as he also says
-
in another passage, you are a priest forever according to
-
the order of Melchizedek. Now it's true, Jesus doesn't come
-
from the tribe of Judah.
-
I'm a tribe of Levi.
-
He comes from the tribe of Judah. And we know
-
perfection cannot come through the priesthood, the levitical priesthood. That's
-
why he is our high priest. And it comes through
-
Jesus through the tribe of Judah. It's not on the
-
basis of the vitical law, coming from a descendant of Levi,
-
but it's based on the power of an indestructible life.
-
But you know what I find most comforting about the
-
fact that Jesus is our high priest. It's that he
-
placed himself in humanity. The second person of the Godhead
-
places himself in humanity, and he becomes the god man,
-
Jesus Christ.
-
That's called the incarnation.
-
That's the indissoluble unbreakable union of God and Man. Christ
-
did that for us. He became something he was not.
-
He joins the human race. I think, in all the
-
vastness of the universe, how do I touch, how do
-
I reach out?
-
How do I connect with God Spirit?
-
How do I even think about that? In the vastness
-
of the universe. And he places himself in humanity. One
-
day we're going to be able to touch him and
-
embrace him. We can relate to him, and he can
-
relate to us, you know.
-
Hebrews two eleven says this. He says that he is.
-
Not ashamed to call us his brethren. Despite his vast
-
superiority and wisdom. He condescends into the human race, and
-
he calls us brethren, and he's not ashamed. In fact,
-
he had to be made like us Hebrews two seventeen.
-
Therefore he had to be made like his brethren in
-
all things, so that he might become a merciful and
-
faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make
-
propreciation for the sins of the people.
-
For since he himself was tempted in that which.
-
He has suffered, he is able to come to the
-
aid of those who are tempted.
-
That is very reassuring to me.
-
You know, when we read the Gospels, we realized Christ
-
had the full human experience. He hungered, he tired, he thirsted,
-
he wept, he cried out, he teared, He experienced mental anguish.
-
He swept blood, and he shed blood. He was a
-
man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. Every sin that
-
you've ever committed, past president and future he experienced in
-
his own mind. He touched you, and he experienced the
-
sins of all of the world. And because of he
-
did all of this because he loves you. That's why
-
we can say we love him. We love him because
-
he first loved us. Hebrew seven twenty four says this.
-
But Jesus, on the other hand, because he continues forever,
-
holds his priesthood permanently. Therefore he is able also to
-
save forever those who draw near to God God through him,
-
since he always lives to make intercession for.
-
Them Hebrews nine twenty four.
-
For Christ did not enter a holy place in the context,
-
Christ did not enter a holy place heavenly sanctuary made
-
with hands, a mere copy of the true one, but
-
into Heaven itself to appear.
-
In the presence of God.
-
What's the last two words there? For us.
-
To appear in the presence of God?
-
For us? For you, do you ever mess up, you
-
feel awful right, Know that you have a brother.
-
Know that you have a brother. Know that you have
-
an advocate, one.
-
Who supports you, encourage, encourages you, intercedes for you. You know,
-
my daughters have taught me something about drawing near to God.
-
When they mess up, they come running and embrace me.
-
They know they've done wrong. But how often do I
-
do something wrong and I run? I don't pray, I
-
don't read my Bible. I say I need a week
-
to go by before I can enter into God's presence? Again,
-
not true. God wants us to draw near and when
-
they drop, when my girls come to me, I don't
-
come down harshly upon them. I embrace them. I encourage him. Yeah,
-
you made a mistake, but Daddy loves you. Now. You
-
know what's even more encouraging is in the old Covenant,
-
only the priests had access into the sanctuary. But the
-
New Covenant Christ freely opens us the way into the
-
heavenly sanctuary Hebrews ten, verse nineteen. Therefore, Brethren, since we
-
have confidence to enter the Holy Place by the blood
-
of Jesus. We have confidence to enter the Holy Place,
-
heavenly sanctuary by what the vital element of the New Covenant,
-
the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way
-
which He inaugurated for us through the veil that is
-
his flesh.
-
That's the cross of Christ.
-
Right there. The transition point is the cross Old Covenant
-
cross New Covenant. And since we have a great high
-
priest over the House of God, let us draw near
-
with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having
-
our hearts sprinkle clean from an evil conscious and our
-
bodies washed with pure water. Let's do a quick review
-
of what the superiority is of the New Covenant before
-
we get into the final phase one. You don't die
-
for your sins. Christ dies for your sins. There's not
-
multiple sacrifices day in day out. There's one single, all
-
sufficient sacrifice through Christ, and his blood is the vital
-
element to redeem you and forgive you. There's not many priests.
-
There's one priest, and he can sympathize with you. And
-
this high priest can save forever if you draw near
-
to him, and he freely gives us access to the
-
heavenly sanctuaries with him.
-
Now, the promises, I.
-
Believe this is some of the most amazing things about.
-
The New Covenant that I want to share you with
-
right now.
-
This is the last phase, and these promises enable us
-
to know God in an intimate way. Watch this now,
-
do you remember the Israelites in the Old Covenant said
-
all that the Lord has said, we will do. They
-
made a promise. Now that covenant was a bilateral agreement
-
between them and God. God never intended it to be
-
a bilateral agreement. Right, they entered into that bilateral agreement,
-
and there was a fault.
-
On their part. Why was there a fault?
-
Did they keep the covenant? No, they did not keep
-
the covenant. They didn't keep their part of the agreement.
-
Look at Hebrews eight, verses six through nine, and go
-
through this slowly.
-
Look at verse six. But now he has.
-
Obtained a more excellent ministry talking about Jesus Christ by
-
as much as he is also the mediator of a
-
better covenant.
-
There it is better covenant.
-
Which has been enacted on what better promises. Let's take
-
a look at these promises. For if the first Covenant
-
had been faultless, there would have been no occasion for
-
a second for finding fault with them.
-
Finding fault with them, they.
-
Said all that the Lord has said, we will do,
-
And then it hadn't been even forty days before they sinned.
-
For finding fault with them.
-
He says.
-
Behold, days are coming, says.
-
The Lord, when I will affect a new covenant with
-
the House of Israel and with the House of Judah,
-
not like the covenant which I made with their fathers
-
on the day when I took them by the hand
-
to lead them out of the land of Egypt. For
-
they did not continue in my covenant, and I did
-
not care for them, says the Lord. Now notice this
-
we're about to read the next couple of verses. Notice
-
this is not a bilinal covenant anymore. It is a
-
unilateral government from God to Israel, from God to his people,
-
from God to you Hebrews eight, verse ten. For this
-
is the covenant that I will make with the House
-
of Israel. After those days, says the Lord. I will
-
put my laws into their minds. I will write them
-
on their hearts, and I will be their God, and
-
they shall be my people. Did you notice who's doing
-
all the work. I will make, I will put, I
-
will write, I will be their God. God alone is
-
establishing the terms of the new Covenant. He is powerful
-
and faithful to keep the new Covenant, the eternal covenant.
-
You see.
-
Instead of the law, now, here's the next thing.
-
Instead of the law being externally on tables of stone,
-
God will internalize that law and write it on our hearts.
-
Just as he wrote the law on the stone tablets,
-
he would write it on our hearts. Now. I don't
-
have time to go through this, but in a Bible study,
-
I can show you that his finger is the Holy Spirit. Right,
-
he writes his law by his Holy Spirit onto our hearts.
-
You see, regarding the law, the only difference between the
-
old Covenant and the New Covenant.
-
You know what the difference is, you know.
-
It location, location, stone tablet's heart. Oh, this is our heart,
-
this is our physical heart, right, this is our heart,
-
our mind where we make decisions. Now the law becomes internalized.
-
You know, we don't follow.
-
The law of God from an external source, as if
-
it were a checklist. We follow it from an internal source.
-
And this internalization goes with us wherever we go. It
-
enables us to love God and to love others as
-
our selves.
-
Because this is it.
-
To internalize the Law of God is to internalize the
-
love of God. To internalize the Law of God is
-
to internalize the love of God. Look at Matthew twenty two,
-
verse thirty six. Notice what Jesus says, Teacher answers this question, teacher,
-
which is the greatest commandment in the Law. And he
-
said to him, you shall love the Lord your God
-
with all your heart, and with all your soul, and
-
with all your mind.
-
This is the great and foremost commandment.
-
The second is like it's you shall love your neighbor
-
as yourself. On these two commandments depend the whole Law
-
and the prophets.
-
You see, the Law has always been about love. The
-
first four we love the.
-
Lord our God with all our heart, soul, and mind.
-
The next six we love others as ourselves. It's not
-
by the works of the Law that we're saved. God
-
does it all through Christ and establishes the New, the
-
Eternal Covenant, by writing his law on our hearts. We
-
get to experience. It's the internalization of God's law. It's
-
all by the works of Christ. Now, some people say,
-
all right, I believe that. Well, if the law of
-
God is in my heart, then why do I struggle?
-
Why do I still struggle in this life?
-
I'm not perfect. I struggle. I mess up, That's okay.
-
Paul expresses the same concern in chapter seven of Romans.
-
He says, I want to do what the law says.
-
I know it's good. But ah, this flesh within me.
-
Who's going to free me from the body of this death?
-
Because until Christ returns, we will still be struggling with
-
this body of flesh. All right, it's always constantly tugging
-
at us. But when Christ returns, this mortal must put
-
on immortality, this corruptible must put on incorruptibility.
-
We will be free from the presence and nature of.
-
It'll be out of us completely. But in the meantime, say,
-
why would God do that?
-
Right now?
-
Why do I have to still struggle?
-
I want to be free? Why? I agree with you.
-
It's an opportunity for us to rely upon the Holy Spirit,
-
to rely upon the power of Christ living within us.
-
It's about struggling.
-
Daily, developing the characters that God wants us to develop,
-
because our characters need to grow, and as we continue
-
to surrender to the Holy Spirit and allow him to
-
have his way and his will with us.
-
We are growing and maturing as Christians. Now.
-
Notice what the result of having the law of God
-
written on our hearts is Hebrews eleven Hebrews eight, verse eleven.
-
We shall not teach everyone his fellow citizen and everyone
-
his brother's saying, know the Lord, for they will all
-
know me from the least to the greatest. That's a promise.
-
The result is that we will know God. I mean,
-
think about this. What's the greatest knowledge that you could
-
ever have?
-
I mean, I love reading books. My wife knows time
-
and time.
-
I mean, my bookshelves get full, I start stacking them up.
-
I say, ooh, that's a good book. I need to
-
buy that one. I want to fill myself with knowledge.
-
But I know that the source of knowledge is the Bible.
-
I know that that's my flash getting distracted. That's not
-
the knowledge that we're talking about here. The greatest knowledge
-
that we could ever have is the knowledge of God.
-
I mean, what does God really like? Who is he?
-
Many people ask that question, and many sincere unbelievers. Is
-
there a God? Does he love me?
-
What is he like?
-
And the New Covenant its superiority, says, God will enable
-
us to know him because he places his law within
-
our hearts.
-
It's a law of love. Some people say eternal life.
-
Every think about that, living forever. I try to fathom
-
that concept. Can you imagine living for five billion years?
-
And you're like, huh, We've only just begun.
-
We think eternal life is this state of consciousness that
-
never ends. And that's true. But you know what internal
-
life is. According to the Bible. Go to John seventeen,
-
verse three.
-
This is eternal life that they may know you.
-
Wow, this is eternal life that they may know you.
-
That's eternal life to know God. And He's placed his law,
-
his character within our hearts. He's internalized it with us.
-
That's the beginning of knowing God. Now we will continue
-
to learn and grow and know God in all of
-
heaven and all eternity. But to have that intimate knowledge
-
right there, knowing God, this is eternal life that they
-
may know you, the only true God and Jesus Christ,
-
whom you have sent. Picking up on that, let's just
-
take a look at a couple other scripture verses. Look
-
at first John two, verse three. By this, we know
-
that we have come to know him. If we keep
-
his commandments. Of course, if his commandments are written on
-
our hearts, we would walk in obedience. The one who
-
says I have come to know him and does not
-
keep his commandments as a liar, and the truth is
-
not in him. But whoever keeps his word in him,
-
the love of God has truly been perfected. By this,
-
we know that we are in him. The one who
-
says he abides in him ought himself to walk in
-
the same manner as he walked. You know, I don't
-
have the scripture up on the screen or on the monitor.
-
But Matthew seven, verse twenty one basically says, not everyone
-
who says to me, Lord, Lord will enter the kingdom
-
of heaven. And they'll say, oh, but I prophesied in
-
your name, But it did miracles in your name. I
-
cast out demons in your name. And the Lord will
-
say to this, depart from me. I never knew you,
-
you who practice lawlessness.
-
Do you see the connection right there?
-
Knowing God, loving God, keeping God's commandments.
-
Walking in obedience.
-
Again, it's not to earn salvation. We don't buy the
-
works of the law earn salvation. No, But we now
-
know God from an internalization. There's one more promise in
-
the New Covenant.
-
That I want to share with you.
-
Hebrews eight, verse twelve, next verse, for I will be
-
merciful to their iniquities, and I will remember their sins.
-
Know more. Wow, I really like that.
-
I mean, I remember terrible sins that I'm deeply shamed
-
about and guilty about. And God knows them too. But
-
He's going to never remember them. In fact, he's going to.
-
Forget them all.
-
Look at Micahs seven eighteen, who is a god like you,
-
who pardons iniquity and passes over the rebellious act of
-
the remnant of his possession. He does not retain his
-
anger forever because he delights in unchanging love. He will
-
again have compassion on us. He will tread our iniquities underfoot. Yes,
-
you will cast all their sins into the depths of
-
the sea. And did you know in the New Heaven
-
and New Earth there is no sea. Sins are completely
-
gone xpiated from the universe. In the New Covenant. You
-
don't die for your sins. Christ dies for your sins.
-
Christ does this single all sufficient sacrifice. His blood, his
-
life is the vital element to redeem you. And forgive you,
-
and He can sympathize with you and save you forever
-
if you draw near to Him. And you draw near
-
to Him into the Heavenly Sanctuary promises God makes a
-
unilateral covenant with you, provided you receive it by faith.
-
We receive the New Covenant, a unilateral covenant with you.
-
The laws not externalized. It's internalized, and it enables us
-
to know God. Our sins are not only forgiven, they're forgotten.
-
Members. Our sins no more. That's the superiority of the
-
New Covenant. That's our journey.
-
We just crossed over from the Old to the New,
-
which is the Everlasting Covenant.
-
Now I want to bring this to a close.
-
There's one more aspect to the New Covenant that I
-
didn't address. You see, in the Old Covenant, the sanctuary
-
had two physical compartments, a holy place and a most
-
Holy Place, and it was separated by a veil. Now
-
in the Heavenly Sanctuary, there are no compartments and there
-
is no veil. But just as there was a holy
-
placed ministry and a most Holy placed ministry in the
-
earthly Old Covenant, there is a holy placed ministry and
-
a most Holy placed ministry in the New Covenant. Now,
-
I can't prove that to you right now. That's a
-
Bible study. I can do that with you in a
-
separate time. But I want to point this out that
-
that great truth, a holy placed ministry and a most
-
Holy placed ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary, that was the
-
truth that established this church. In the early eighteen hundreds,
-
God led a remnant of his people to cross over
-
from where Jesus was ministering in the Holy Place to
-
where he now ministers in the Most Holy Place. Now,
-
at that time, they thought that Jesus was going to
-
return to the earth. They studied the time prophecies, and
-
they were convinced that on October twenty second, eighteen forty four,
-
Christ would return, And when he didn't, they were bitterly disappointed. However,
-
God revealed to them that something did happen on that date.
-
Christ moved from the Holy Placed ministry to the most
-
Holy Placed ministry. Because it was all about preparing a
-
people for the second coming of Christ. Now I stand
-
before you because of that truth. Now I can see
-
from the Bible. Now I can see from the Bible
-
and the Bible alone, that God led his people to
-
this truth. I can see how they crossed over by
-
the experience, through the historical records and by comparing scripture
-
with scripture, God is preparing his people for his second coming.
-
And I'm so grateful for this church.
-
The faithful teachings of this of the Word of God
-
has enabled me.
-
To cross over.
-
Now I crossed over from living in Babylon to living
-
in the Beautiful Land. And I'm living in the full
-
awareness and assurance of the New Covenant and the First, second,
-
and Third Angel's messages. And I've brought I've been brought
-
nearer to God in the heavenly Sanctuary than ever before.
-
Now I'm conceited a first generation Seventh Day Adventist, first generation.
-
I came to these truths as an adult, and my
-
wife is also a first.
-
Generation Seventh Day Adventist.
-
And you know what scares me a little bit, Maybe
-
not scares, but it's ever present in my mind. My
-
daughters are second generation Seventh Day Adventists. They don't know
-
it yet, but they've crossed over with us. The experience
-
church life with us. We share the truth with us.
-
They are experienced, in one sense, the beautiful Land. Now
-
they need to know that for themselves. For those of
-
you to know, I have a three and five year old.
-
I want them to know.
-
I'm going to teach them, I'm going to show them,
-
but they have to cross over themselves, and I'll do
-
everything I can to love them into the kingdom. But
-
you know, maybe you're a second generation, maybe you're a third,
-
maybe you're a fourth, maybe a fifth generation, seventh day
-
in dentist and maybe you might be like the hebrew Christians,
-
where after the Cross of Christ.
-
They started to drift.
-
That's what the Book of Hebrews is all about, bringing
-
them back to Christ. They may have drifted. Maybe unbelief
-
might be taking hold in your life. Some even quote
-
attending church. But I want to encourage you to stay alert,
-
hold on firmly to the truths that you have, focus
-
on Jesus, and remain.
-
Faithful to your calling.
-
Now I leave you with a quote from my favorite
-
Theologian Testimonies to the Church is Volume five, page four
-
fifty five. God has called his church. Now in context,
-
she's speaking of this church. God has called his church
-
in this day, as he has called ancient Israel, to
-
stand as a light in the earth. By the Mighty
-
Cleaver of truth the messages of the First, second, and
-
Third Angels. He has separated them from the churches and
-
from the world to bring them into a sacred nearness
-
to himself. He has made them the depositaries of his law,
-
and is committed to them the great truths of prophecy
-
for this time. Like the Holy Oracles committed to ancient Israel,
-
these are a sacred.
-
Trust to be communicated to the world.
-
The three Angels of Revelation fourteen represent the people who
-
accept the light of God's message and go forth as
-
his agents to sound the warning throughout the length and
-
breadth of the earth. Christ declares to his followers, ye
-
are the light of the world. To every soul that
-
accepts Jesus. The Cross of Calvary speaks, behold the worth.
-
Of the soul.
-
Go ye into all the world and preach the Gospel
-
to every creature.
-
You know.
-
While we're standing, I just want to ask, is there
-
anyone who needs a special touch from Jesus Christ directly,
-
anyone who's ready to cross over into the New Covenant.
-
If you are, I'll be here after you can talk
-
with us elders and deacons. We can get your name,
-
or maybe you just need a refresh recommitment to our message,
-
our first, second, third Angel's message, and take and proclaim
-
the gospel.
-
Live the light of Christ. Let's close in prayer, Father God,
-
I just pray that you would move upon your congregation.
-
May your Holy Spirit just touch them, comfort them, encourage them.
-
May we realize, fully realize the superiority of the New Covenant,
-
that you are the one time sacrifice. Your blood washes
-
every sins away. We stand on your promise, Lord, that
-
you would make assure people that you would place your
-
law within our heart. Bless everyone today, Encourage them In Jesus,
-
maybe we'd be rooted and grounded and that Christ would
-
live within us.
-
In Jesus' name, Amen,
