Health and Healing

We are sinners in need of a cross. Jesus is
-
the savior of the world, and he came to save us. Father,
-
there will be no arrogant, hateful people in heaven, but
-
there will be sinners saved by grace who have transformed
-
natures by the power that subjects all things into Christ,
-
the Creator. The one thing you can't change is our character.
-
And Lord, our character is not our nature. We struggle
-
with our nature. Our character is the choices we make
-
and the kind of people we choose to be. We
-
face the mirror right, so Dear God, help us hold
-
us in Jesus. In Jesus' name, Amen. The title of
-
the message is health and healing. Thought about this, I
-
wanted for some time to have one of those health
-
wind nugget windows.
-
How many of you have appreciated those? Yeah, they're good.
-
On a Sabbath morning, you get the pastor up here
-
and talk about health a little bit. I'm not a doctor,
-
but I have studied what they call holistic medicine a
-
little bit. So I tried to run from drug therapy
-
in this kind of thing because I do believe that
-
God made the body to heal. I learned how to
-
heal my back from God because I learned that emotions
-
affect back pain. And years ago I got ahold of
-
a book by John Sarno called Healing Back Pain The
-
Mind Body Connection.
-
John Sarno was famous.
-
He ended up in psychology day after his death for
-
affecting more people's health in back pain through non surgical methods.
-
So the famous book is Healing Back Pain by doctor
-
John Sarno. Most people who suffer from severe back pain,
-
it's emotions that have muscles that have inhibited blood circulation
-
and thus lactic acid build up and sciatica and all
-
the kinds of things. But it's one of those groundbak
-
breaking books that agrees with Sister White who said ninety
-
percent of all diseases start in the mind. So now
-
I have my chance to do a sermon today on health.
-
Is that all right?
-
Now?
-
You doctors, be easy on the pastor here all right?
-
The title of the message for the morning is health
-
and Healing. We're gonna look at the gospel a little
-
bit this morning because it is the key for health
-
and healing in our lives. That's something we often miss
-
and we talk about health. The ancient Greek word for
-
savior is sotere and it literally means healer. A savior
-
in Greek is a healer. The ancient asclepion. A slepion
-
is a medical institution the ancient world that we have
-
one largely preserved at Ephesus. I've been to it. There's
-
a medical center there and they had psychological interventions for people,
-
and one of those interventions was a snake pit.
-
Serious.
-
Yeah, people get paranoia, they get depressed, and they had
-
a cure for it.
-
They would tie someone up all night.
-
And that snake pit and the snakes would go all
-
over their body and entangle around their legs and feet,
-
and when the night was over, we are cured. Get
-
us out of here. Mind body connection. When the night
-
was over, it didn't matter how depressed or paranoid a
-
person felt they were, they were suddenly healed because they
-
wanted to get out of there. They wanted to go home.
-
And one of those ain't the stones at Ephesus. I
-
know Greek, and I read I took a photograph of it.
-
It has a scleppius soter, which means a scleppius healer,
-
which is the word say. It's the same word used
-
in the Greek New Testament for Jesus as our savior,
-
the word so tear in its verbal form translated to
-
save in Our New Testament.
-
It's the same word used for Jesus as Savior again
-
and again and again and again.
-
So when Christ is our savior, what does it mean?
-
It's plugging.
-
It means he is our healer.
-
And Matthew one after the genealogy of Jesus, where he
-
cites forty two generations, the Angel came to Joseph to
-
make a statement. The people in jesus genealogy would make
-
the hair on your head go straight up. You look
-
at the list of names from Abraham to Jesus, you
-
wouldn't want to have them in your family.
-
A lot of them. They are liars, They're murderers, adulterers.
-
Immoral women and immoral men, failures, idolators, worshipers of idols,
-
mass murderers, insignificant people also whose names are on a page,
-
and they mean nothing to history, and yet they are
-
in the line that leads us to Jesus.
-
They are his people, his people.
-
Coredia numbers thirty three in the Exes from Egypt. Ancient
-
Israel camped out forty two times in the wilderness before
-
they finally got to the Promised Land forty two encampments.
-
You look at the generations they're in Matthew one, it's
-
forty two generations until Jesus shows up. Now, the one
-
who led them to the Promised Land after Moses died.
-
His name was Joshua.
-
Joshua is the Hebrew word for Jesus, the Greek Jesus.
-
There are two times in the Bibles where the two
-
Joshua's the two jesus Is meet Joshua Chapter five, when
-
he sees the man with sword drawn in hand who says,
-
take off your shoes for the place you're standing his
-
holy ground. That's Jesus meeting Joshua. The two Jesus are meeting,
-
and the other Zachariah three, when Joshua the High Priest
-
is facing the Angel of the Lords, and the Angel
-
of the Lord is the stone before Joshua's seven eyes.
-
In the book Revelation and the Lamb has seven eyes,
-
Joshua is facing Jesus. Amazing that two of these key
-
stories shape the future because Jesus is the high priest
-
and Jesus is the commander of God's army. That to
-
Joshua's meet and the Joshua yet to come, and it
-
was Joshua who took God's people to the Promised Land.
-
Matthew's trying to say that Jesus is the new Joshua
-
who will lead us people who save his people. It
-
means Yahweh saves the meat of the name, and so
-
the Lord saves. From Abraham to Jesus was a wilderness
-
until Jesus shows up, and Jesus is the way out
-
of the wilderness. Friend, you may have a family system
-
where you're struggling in your marriage. You may have children
-
that are out of control, who have lost their way.
-
The devil may have brought some cynic into their life
-
to teach them that they can't rely on the spirit
-
of prophecy, the Bible, or a message, or even have
-
a relationship with God. You may have been hit by
-
things that you cannot measure in your life. But I'm
-
gonna tell you right now, we have a Joshua who
-
can get our families to the Promised Land. And it
-
is time we stop cowering in fear and we take
-
our stand for ourselves and our families. Because Jesus is
-
in the saving, healing business for all of us. So
-
when the angel appears to Joshua, Joshua, the angel peers
-
to Joseph, who should have been king if the genealogy
-
was right.
-
But he's a carpenter.
-
He has something to say about Jesus yet to be born.
-
He has something to say about us too. Look what
-
he says, Matthew on't eighteen. Now the birth of Jesus
-
took place in this way. When his mother, Mary had
-
been betrothed to Joseph before they came together, she was
-
found to be with child of the Holy Spirit, and
-
her husband, Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to
-
put her to shame, resolved to divorce herly. Jesus' birth
-
was another scandal in a long line of scandals in
-
the forty two generational genealogy from Abraham to Jesus.
-
First twenty.
-
He picks up the narrative, but as he considered this,
-
he ever thought about your background. You know I came
-
from this. You know I have an unbelieving spouse. Maybe
-
I got treated badly when I was a kid. Maybe
-
I had trauma deep child too, trauma. They made us
-
take a test at the conference. I'm not into public disclosures.
-
But I thought i'd tell some of you this so you.
-
Kind of know.
-
And on that trauma test, it's ten points. If you're
-
like seven or six, your life expectancy goes down.
-
I was ten. You know.
-
I had deep childhood trauma as a young person. I
-
don't even tell you what it was, but I have
-
suffered all ten of those points that they talk about
-
in the trauma test. Now some of you experts know
-
what that test is.
-
So what I'll tell you why?
-
Because through faith in Christ, every deficiency of character may
-
be supplied, every fault corrected, every excellence developed. We learned
-
this from the book Education. See, it's not where I've
-
come from that defines me. It's who has called me
-
into his future that defines me. I'm not a slave
-
to a past I cannot control, but I am set
-
free for a future in which God is in control.
-
See.
-
I believe that a Jerusalem above is our mother in
-
Glatians four twenty three, and she is free. And I'm
-
gonna tell you right now, I will not allow by
-
faith God not God. I want not allow, by faith
-
the devil to make me a victim by things I
-
cannot control. But having said that I need a savior
-
because I can't fix the stuff that I came out
-
of on my own. I made that transition. I was
-
baptized just before I turned sixteen. The man who baptized
-
me was Donald Vollmer, who was wonderful, godly man. Still
-
my pastor. He's not an outgoing kind of type. He's
-
an introverted pastor and never been a senior pastor, always
-
an associate pastor. He works with people rather than being
-
in charge. I'm different than that. I just can't tell
-
you how important it is to have someone who can
-
see your flaws and your warts and love you. God
-
put us in the church not to make us perfect people.
-
He put us in the church to love other people.
-
And what happens is that we're in the loving, hugging
-
and carrying business. Our lives are changed. Peter says, love
-
covers a multitude of sins. So look at verse twenty. Behold,
-
as he considered this, he was thinking in his head, Behold,
-
an Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream.
-
Not the Angel of the Lord, that's Christ God and
-
angel form an angel appeared to him, saying Joseph's son
-
of David, that felt good. He's actually related to King David.
-
Do not fear. He lived his life in fear. Do
-
not fear to take marry your wife for that which
-
is conceived in her as of the Holy Spirit. And
-
I'm gonna tell you right now, the Holy Spirit can't
-
be some nebulous, intangible force and bring into existence the
-
person of Jesus Christ, the powerful third person of the God,
-
had had hovered over Mary like he had at the
-
dawn of time, and as he would at the at
-
the baptism of Jesus, and Christ was formed in human nature.
-
The second person of the God had became a human being.
-
Merging two natures.
-
And then verse twenty one, the angel, most likely Gabriel, said,
-
some people say, oh, they're angels. You better angels are
-
ET's on steroids. They're ancient extraterrestrials with powers beyond belief.
-
You know, forget Superman, Marvel, junk on the movies and
-
all that. These angels are their real deal. They could
-
snap their fingers, this place would blow up, but they
-
don't do that because they're humble, loving beings who follow
-
God's will. They're here in this room. The sister White
-
tells us that when we leave pews empty in the front,
-
evil angels like to come in and take up those places.
-
So get out of here. I'm asking angels to feel
-
of those seats in right now. Okay they did, Okay,
-
but notice what the angel tells Joseph, this loser in
-
the line of Jesus, she will bear a son, and
-
you shall call his name Jesus. You see, you're to
-
name him Joseph. You're not even related to him, but
-
you're gonna name him. For he will save his people
-
from their sins. That's what he's coming for. Now.
-
What does the word save mean again?
-
Come on, heal now, plug it in, for he will
-
heal his people from their sins.
-
To be saved means to be healed.
-
Friends, Jesus came this world to heal us from our sins,
-
to heal us from every disease caused by sin. Healed
-
people will inherit eternity nothing last is the outcome for
-
God's people. Now. The problem with perfectionism is that perfectionism
-
would have you believe that you have to be perfect
-
to be accepted by God. Do you hear me? That's
-
a satanic lie. The Reformation rightly understood the Gospel of
-
Romans as the early pioneers of our church came to
-
understand it more deeply after eighteen eighty eight, through the
-
guidance of the Spirit of Prophecy, that at the moment
-
a person has faith in Jesus, that person's accepted as
-
if they'd never sinned. The full regard of God for
-
Jesus Christ is given to that baby believer. So they
-
are in the Beloved. They don't do things so that
-
God will accept them. They grow because they are accepted
-
and loved. And yes, God will not admit rebels into
-
the kingdom, but he disciplines us, so we will never
-
be a rebel. And if we do not run away
-
from him, if we do not distance ourselves from Him,
-
he will.
-
Not reject us.
-
And so those that the Father has drawn to the Son,
-
Jesus says, I will know why it's cast out. We
-
got to remember that when we're having tough times, when
-
we fail God. Now we should ever planned to sin,
-
we should be quick to repent, but we should realize
-
we are not cast off. We're accepted in the Beloved.
-
Jesus came to this world to heal sinners, heal people
-
will inherit attorney. So don't settle for anything less than
-
being healed in your life by Jesus. Now, what gets
-
in the way of that is a victim complex. Oh me,
-
I went through all of this and no one helped
-
me with this. And have you ever had a victim
-
I'll raise my hand. I've had a victim complex before.
-
Anybody with me, I might see my droopy hand. Victim complex. Okay,
-
no more, friends, It's not God's will for any of
-
us to have a tragic story, a bad attitude life,
-
to feel like we're the victim of someone treating us wrong.
-
I get treated wrong all the time. What about you?
-
You have people treat you wrong?
-
Oh okay, well.
-
Friends, Jesus came to heal us now for the future,
-
So how do we get healed? Romans one, sixteen seventeen.
-
For I'm not ashamed of the gospel. I don't care
-
who teaches what in what church. There's two elements of
-
the gospel. One is the gospel the Christ died for
-
our sins.
-
It was bare. He was raised for our justification, our acceptance.
-
The other side is the gospel is the outworking of
-
God's covenant at the ten Commandments because the character of
-
God is embedded in the law. The Gospel is a
-
revelation of the law of love, of the character of
-
God that I am who I am God, of which
-
the Ten Commandments describes so eloquently. So when people are
-
trying to do away with any one of the ten precepts,
-
they have a false gospel, because Jesus died for our
-
what sins. Sins are the violation of God's law, and
-
whatever it is not a faith is sin also. But
-
you see, if anyone does the way of the Gospel
-
to keep the law, that's just as bad. Oh, well,
-
you know you're not really accepted. You've got to get better.
-
If you don't improve, then you're going to not You know,
-
the Lord can't have you the way you are. Well,
-
the truth is he can have you right now the
-
way you are, as you are on your knees asking
-
for help. He does not throw you away, but he
-
changes us. So Paul says, from I'm not ashamed of
-
the gospel. It is the power of God. Now, the
-
Greek word power is dunamus. We get a word dynamite,
-
dynamite power of God for salvation. What does word salvation mean?
-
Again healing to everyone who has faith, to the jew
-
first and also the Greek, for in it that is
-
the gospel. The righteousness of God is revealed through faith
-
for faith, which means we start with faith, we end
-
with faith. We don't give up our faith in Jesus
-
because things are going bad. As it is written, he
-
through faith is righteous shall live.
-
How many do you want to live? You cannot have
-
a few without the Gospel in your life. The death.
-
Now, look, everybody here has messed up bad in life.
-
She say, Amen, pastor Mike, shall you say something like that.
-
Everybody here has messed up bad in life.
-
God knows it.
-
You can say him into that, and Jesus died on
-
a cross for every bit of it. So when some
-
browbeating perfect person comes into your life and wants to
-
set you on fire so that you are a mess inside,
-
look him in the eye and in your mind's heart.
-
If you don't say a personally, say Jesus died for
-
me on the cross of Calvary, and in Christ I
-
am accepted as if I had never sinned, and I
-
have sinned, But I will live for him.
-
And he'll clean me up in time for heaven.
-
The Gospel is the power of God for salvation, and
-
that were salvation means healing. The Gospel heals people from
-
their sins. It heals their minds, it heals their emotions.
-
It heals us to the deepest part of our being
-
Isaiah fifty three four. Surely he has borne our griefs
-
and carried our sorrows. Yet we esteemed him stricken. And
-
the Hebrews says God was smitten. That's what the Hebrews says.
-
It says smitten by God. But the hebrew says God
-
was smitten and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions.
-
He was bruised for our iniquities. Some people run around
-
say Jesus couldn't die for our sins. It's a pagan idea. Well,
-
it doesn't work here. Verse five says he in fact
-
died for those things. He was wounded for our transgressions.
-
He was bruised for our iniquities. Upon him was the chastisement.
-
It means the whipping that made us whole. That's a
-
psychological term. And with his stripes we were healed. Every
-
disease you've ever had, every sickness you'll ever have, every
-
disappointment and grief. It was all put into Jesus had
-
in heart. From Gsemite to the Cross. He has borne
-
every illness, every psychological trauma, from Adam to the end,
-
as Us in Gosemone to the cross. That's what he's
-
saying that what does it mean. It means Jesus died
-
for you. He was our substitute. Jesus died with you
-
because you were in Christ. Paul says, Jesus died as
-
you because he identified with all of your challenges. Jesus
-
carried all of you in him when he died to
-
heal us from our sins. He identified with you, dear heart,
-
as if there was no one else in the universe
-
on the cross of Calvary to heal you. How can
-
someone else's suffering take away your suffering? Jesus can do
-
it because Jesus became each and every one of us
-
on that cross. That's what Isaiah is saying. Peter says
-
that he bore our sin in his body on the
-
cross one Peter two twenty four. He himself bore our
-
sins in his body on the tree that we might
-
die to sin and live to righteousness.
-
By his wounds you have been healed. See we're not
-
waiting for healing.
-
In Jesus, we have healed on that cross, for you
-
were strained like sheep, but have now returned to the
-
shepherd and guarded your souls. You see, true healing means
-
coming to Jesus in our lives. Our souls can live,
-
and our souls can be free of guilt, because Jesus
-
bore our diseases, our guilt, package our condemnation in his
-
body on the cross, and in Jesus we find the
-
shepherd of our souls. Jesus was terminally ill on that cross,
-
from every illness from Adam to the end. The sins
-
of the world should have wiped him out, and the
-
guard of Casemone fell down from the load of it all. Thromboy,
-
it says in the Greek quots of blood colapsed in trauma,
-
deep trauma, childhood trauma, midlife trauma, the trauma of death,
-
the trauma of sin, the trauma of guilt, the trauma
-
of immorality, trauma of idolatry, our sins. He should have
-
died from the pressure that forced the blood and sweat
-
out of his pores when he fell to the earth
-
and pain. Yet that angel came from heaven the garden
-
Consimbi to hook him up to the respirator to sustain
-
his life, to do the atonement.
-
What is atonement and onement? To bring us to God?
-
Peter says, by dying for us as us with us
-
on Calvary's cross, you see the end time judgment of
-
the destruction of the wicked, of the end of the
-
millennium happened to the cross. To Jesus, it's the hottest
-
hell in the universe. As Calvary, the cpu AI needs
-
all this electricity to run because the CPUs get hot
-
and everything artificial intelligence.
-
They say they'll have to have entire power plants to
-
run it.
-
Imagine the power that is needed for Jesus to process
-
as a human being, every human life as them to
-
die for our sins. The Bible says that he was nine,
-
he was offered up in the eternal spirit. The fire
-
of God's glory was funneling through him, burning out.
-
The sins of the world. So when he said it
-
is finished, there was nothing left to condemn.
-
So what does it take. What does Jesus heal us from?
-
I would like to look at that this morning. Let's
-
look this morning. Five things where Jesus heals us. Number one,
-
Thank you, Lucia. The Lord heals us from our disobedience
-
in our physical diseases. Thank you for that slide. And
-
they are related. In Access fifteen twenty six, God says,
-
if you will diligently hearken to the voice of the
-
Lord your God, to do that which is right in
-
his eyes, and give heed to his commandments and keep
-
all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases
-
upon you which I put upon the Egyptians for the
-
Lord your healer, obeying God's law. Now, legalists can't obey
-
God's law. Narcissists can't obey God's law. Broken people can.
-
It's the pooring spirit who start the journey to obey.
-
When we come to obey God's law not to earn salvation,
-
but because the Lord died for our sins. It's at
-
that moment we are healed and we begin to be healed.
-
Number two, The Lord heals us from our bad attitudes
-
and actions like gossip, backbiting, depression, victim mentality. Could we
-
had a long list of that. Okay, Miriam was guilty
-
of gossip and backbiting against Moses because he had married
-
a Cushite woman who was dark skinned. We call that racism,
-
don't we. Lord hates racism. God directly intervened and struck
-
her with leprosy, So don't doing that in the church.
-
All right? Fair enough, He didn't allow.
-
That to continue one minute longer with Aaron and Maryam
-
acting that way as leaders in the church. The Lord
-
stopped it. Numbers twelve thirteen, and Moses cried to the Lord.
-
See Moses intervened. And Moses would be considered dysfunctional leader
-
because he let things go way too long, we would think,
-
But the Bible says he was the meekest man in
-
the earth, so he just let things go, and he
-
always got stung by. But then he intervenes for the
-
people who should have gotten judged. And Moses cried to
-
the Lord, heal her, Oh God, I beseech thee. But
-
the Lord said to Moses, if her father had but
-
spit in her face, should she not be shamed?
-
Seven days?
-
Let her be shut up outside the camp seven days,
-
and after that she may be brought in again. That's
-
Jesus speaking, by the way, before he became human being.
-
You go wow, yep, that's Christ has an other side
-
to him. It's good though there are times in life
-
we need to be healed by an intervention because bad
-
attitudes are disease. God is our healer from these unlawful
-
things inside. And so when we do the assessment of
-
our souls, we need to ask ourselves what kind of people?
-
Are we?
-
We toxic? Or do we add life to others by
-
being truly loving? Does everything have to revolve around us?
-
Are we the stain of the universe? Or is it
-
about giving, caring, sharing that our lives are enriched? Number three,
-
The Lord forgives our sins and heals our land. The
-
Lord not only heals individuals, he also heals groups of people.
-
There's such a thing called group illness, group sickness, group evil.
-
The subject was to create as a psychological study. After
-
the Holocaust, doctor M. Scott Peck wrote a book called
-
The People of the Lie where he analyzes evil, working
-
off of the research of others group evil and individual evil.
-
Second Chronicle seven fourteen. If my people, who are called
-
by my name that means God's law and character, humble
-
themselves and pray and seek my face, what will he do?
-
He says? And turn from their wicked ways. Then I
-
will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin,
-
and I will heal their land.
-
And the Bible.
-
Repentance exists at different levels. Individual people can repent. Have
-
you ever gotten on your knees and just said, Lord,
-
I'm messed up. I was harsh, I messed up here,
-
I lied, or I was dishonest, or I messed up
-
here trying to defend myself. I didn't do the right thing.
-
And what does the Lord do when you do that?
-
He forgives you. He forgives you. Isn't that sweet? He
-
forgives you.
-
You don't don't take that to some priest or preacher.
-
Take it to God. You don't have to have someone
-
in the room. He doesn't want anyone else there but
-
you and him. Families can also repent. There are times
-
when families need to say, we all messed up as
-
a family. You know. Visiting the iniquity of the third
-
and fourth generation means four generations are alive at any
-
one time in an ancient tent, and if evil was
-
being done in that tent, they all knew it. Therefore
-
was group evils the families scaniving families need to repent.
-
When families sin, nations can repent. Is it okay if
-
a nation repents. If a nation tries to repent, don't
-
go acting like it's a bad thing. Now a nation
-
doesn't have a right to take over God's law or
-
enforced worship. But if a nation repents of sin and evil,
-
praise the Lord. Is that a good thing? Nothing wrong
-
with it? Let's take it one step further. Churches can repent,
-
local and world churches can repent. The problem with the
-
latesty in condition in the book Revelation is root in
-
the problem of arrogance and narcissism.
-
The latesty in.
-
Church says, I am rich and increased with goods and
-
have need of nothing. Now I've been very clear. There
-
are two books, two churches. In book Revelation is Seventh
-
Day Adventism. To the end, what are they?
-
I'm quizzing you.
-
The first one Philadelphia and Laydesa Philadelphia becomes it's not
-
the majority experience as we come up to the mark
-
of the Beast. Lay to Sea is the large class
-
that has professed faith in Third Angel's message. But within
-
the Adventist church, both groups exist side by side, side
-
by side, and really we must decide to be latest,
-
to be, to be Philadelphians. If we're lay at its stands,
-
the cure is Philadelphia. And we can talk more about
-
that when I interact with prophecy, because we're living in
-
a year where Bible prophecies unfolding. I was just talking
-
outside in the Foeer. I think, I think we're the
-
generation that we'll see the mark of the beast and
-
so start ordering your life.
-
You would go home or be deceived.
-
You don't have a choice, cast your lot with Jesus
-
or go down the wrong road. The latesty in church
-
says I am rich, increased with goods, and have need
-
of nothing, a self righteous, arrogant church system, individual leadership,
-
and I'm not saying all leaders of this way. They
-
can't get to square one without becoming poor in spirit
-
as an entry point. The latesty in church can't get
-
to the first line of the Beatitudes in the Sermon
-
of them Mount because of its proud and boastful attitude
-
claiming that it is rich with no need. Friends, we
-
need to feel our need and our deep spiritual poverty
-
to be healed of religious arrogance and pride and sin itself.
-
That is why Jesus begins his blessings in the Sermon
-
of Them out with an appeal for true humility.
-
Matthew five.
-
Three, Blessed are the poor in spirit, for their is
-
the King of Heaven. The only church in the book
-
Revelation that is has no commendations at all is the
-
Church of Ladacea, which makes it the worst of all
-
of them because it cannot face the fact that it
-
can mess up and sin. And because of that arrogance,
-
the Ladesian Church can't get to square one in the
-
Sermon of Them Mount blessed with the poor in spirit.
-
And yet Philadelphian Adventism says, it says that you have
-
a little power, but you've not denied my name or law.
-
See law keepers are really people who obey because they're small,
-
and they live for the Lord because of grace. Thus
-
they become obedient Christians. We have in our church culture.
-
I'm not here to poke at different things because I
-
don't like doing that in the pulpit, But we have
-
godly committed people in our world church who are doing
-
the work of the Philadelphian Church, taking the Gospel to
-
unreached areas of the world. Four hundred thousand baptized in
-
New Guinea, and I can go on and on Philadelphians.
-
Then we have people come to church, don't do anything,
-
don't want to learn the Bible, don't study it, don't
-
pray for people, don't try to really win their neighbors
-
because they're into themselves, their status, the position they have
-
or don't have. Lay the sins. We've been told as
-
the test approaches, a large class that have professed faith
-
in the Third Angels message. It's in the chapter the
-
Final Warning, great controversy will become the fiercest adversaries of
-
those people who are truly committed to the prophetic vision
-
and mission of the remnant Church. We can't afford to
-
be in that compromising crowd. We have to come to
-
Jesus and let him get his work done. Some people say, well,
-
you know, I'm a conservative, I'm a liberal. I'm not either.
-
I don't turn to the right or the left, at
-
least in my mind, I want to turn to Jesus.
-
So we don't need to be party spirit in the
-
church that's of the world, but we do need to
-
be obedient. There are things in some conservatism and liberalism
-
I like each, but I'd rather not focus my life
-
on them. I'd rather model it after Jesus example. So
-
don't treat repentance lightly in your experience so as to
-
make it a trivial thing. It is part of worship
-
in light of the Cross. We should be quick to
-
humble up, eager to repent, fast to move forward with
-
Jesus in our lives, and do not think we're the
-
sinner of the universe. A church that cannot repent or
-
admit it is wrong and time becomes an evil church, toxic.
-
So we don't want that, do we.
-
If Latecy doesn't repent, Jesus says he will spit it
-
out of his mouth. He never says that to Philadelphia.
-
Revelation three nineteen. Those whom I love, I reprove and chase,
-
and the chasing will be the mark of the beast.
-
So be zealous and repent. Number four. The Lord heals
-
us from our personal pain and our emotional distresses. I
-
don't know about you. I've had emotional pain in my life.
-
Has anybody else here had deep emotional pain in your life?
-
Really to lingered for weeks or day, you know, months?
-
Maybe when my dad died, I was diagnosed with clinical depression.
-
My blood pressure went to one hundred and eighty or
-
one hundred and twenty, and I had those bleeds. That
-
was because of emotional distress trauma. I survived it. They
-
wanted me to drop out of college. Dinah says, because
-
you had a calcium deficiency. I think it was this stress. Frankly,
-
who knows. Maybe in both Let's look at Isaiah Ffty
-
three again, verse four. Surely he has borne our griefs
-
and carried our sorrows. Yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten
-
by God and afflicted. Literally, God was stricken and afflicted
-
in Jesus, That's what it says in the Hebrew. But
-
he was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for
-
our iniquities. Upon him was the chastisement that has made
-
us whole. And with his stripes we were healed. Jesus
-
can heal you psychologically in life, because Jesus has dealt
-
with the stuff inside your head inside of his head.
-
That is why it's called the Wonderful Counselor. In the
-
book of Isaiah. Remember when Samson and his wife were
-
trying to figure out how to raise little Samson they
-
didn't have a clue because they lived in the time
-
of the judges. The Angel of the Lord, who was
-
the pre existing Christ, showed up, took the rod Moses rod.
-
Because they took it to heaven, made the sacrifice turn
-
to fire, and Sister White says that Rod now is
-
in heaven. See, so we've got to follow the Bible
-
line represents the Holy Spirit. And what happened there is
-
that the Angel the Lord told him what to do
-
so little Samson would turn out okay. He says, what's
-
your name? He says, why do you ask? Seeing that
-
it is wonderful? And Isaiah will pick up on that
-
that the Christ child would be the wonderful counselor he
-
was there helping families in the Old Testament. Being healed
-
psychologically means integration and a simulation of pain to acquire meaning.
-
When pain has meaning in your life, it loses its
-
power to harm you anymore. Did you hear what I said?
-
When pain has meaning in your life, it loses the
-
power to harm you. PTSD is the product of naivete
-
I have had PTSD. I was diagnosed with it after
-
I left Sligo and I met with a professional counselor
-
who helped me and prayed with me. And that's the
-
best kind of counseling. And I learned that people who
-
suffer from post traumatic stress disorder can't believe that people
-
could be so evil to hurt them. So it's a
-
naivete or that the life could be so unjust that
-
it could hurt them. Well, guess what, friends, we live
-
in an evil world. That's naivete. It fuels depression. In nature,
-
the weak die. You cannot afford to be weak. It's
-
not God does not call the Christian to that kind
-
of whiny, mournful weeping. He calls us to deal with
-
it by integrating pain, addressing it evil. We'll be here
-
until the end. We don't overcome pain by getting rid
-
of it in our lives. We overcome pain by integrating
-
and allowing the Lord to make us hole by facing it.
-
That is why rejoicing and giving praise to God in
-
the midst of pain and yes, failure, is so.
-
Important in life.
-
If you can rejoice in your sufferings, pain can no
-
longer tear you away from God and break you down
-
in life Hebrews twelve to one. Therefore, since we are
-
surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses. Let us
-
lay aside every weight and sin which clings so closely,
-
and let us run with perseverance the race that is
-
set before us, looking to Jesus, the pioneer and perfectory
-
of our faith, who for the joy that was set
-
before him, endured the cross, despising the shame, and is
-
seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
-
When we are healed, truly healed, our souls prosper in salvation.
-
John ten ten says that Jesus came to this world
-
to give us the abundant life. Abundant living is only
-
possible if we've been healed, and joy comes to us
-
as the fruit of the spirit that is rightly ours,
-
because we have.
-
Tasted of the sweet salvation.
-
And the honey of the healing power of the Lord.
-
Third John verse two. Beloved, I pray that all of
-
you may go well, it may go well with you,
-
and that you may be in good health. I know
-
that it is well with your soul, for I greatly
-
rejoiced when some of the brethren arrived and testified to
-
the truth of your life. As indeed you do follow
-
the truth see the connection between following the truth and
-
being healthy. That's why theology matters, you know. Imagine believing
-
as some do falsely from scripture, misunderstanding the verses that
-
God will torment people forever and ever in a pit
-
called hell, rather than destroying evil, as he says in
-
Malachi four and Revelation chapter twenty and many other places.
-
John three point sixteen, Jesus taught the same like I
-
think Matthew ten twenty six. Do not fear him who
-
can kill the body only, but fear him and can
-
destroy both body and soul and hell. They ignore verses
-
like that, But imagine what it means to worship a
-
God where you have a view like that.
-
What does it do to you? See?
-
The truth corrupts your character, It corrupts your relationship with God.
-
It makes you into something awful too. This is why
-
we need to be informed Christians, allowing the word of
-
God to inform us of the character of God in
-
such a way. The Gospel is the gospel, you know.
-
If we worship a God who himself has bad news
-
to worship, it's no gospel, So no greater joy, he
-
says the report can I have than this to hear
-
that my children follow the truth. That's the way I
-
feel at Reaching Hearts too. I don't want our kids
-
going to be crazy, out of control Christian rock concerts
-
or non Christian rock concerts because the truth isn't in it,
-
you know. I don't want them being sucked into some
-
movie watching event where there's compromise going on and they're
-
having to be exposed to nudity in that movie or
-
language which is despicable. I mean, the church ought to
-
be a haven from that stuff, right man. I want
-
men and women of character to come out of Reaching
-
Hearts rather than a crowd of rebels to be the
-
product of our culture. Here, friends, when we are healed,
-
we are truly healed. The Lord heals us from our past,
-
our presence, so we can move into his future Philippians
-
three twelve to fourteen. Not that I've already obtained this
-
or am already perfect?
-
Now? Was Paul perfect? Yes? Or no? I'm quizzing you
-
based on this verse? No? Now.
-
I have a hard time believing that some end time
-
believer is going to be better than Paul. I think
-
Paul will be the one closest to the throne personally.
-
He will never claim that perfect people in God's eyes
-
are people who are imperfect in their own eyes.
-
Did you hear me?
-
Perfect people in God's eyes are people who are imperfect
-
their own eyes. And who do they look to for
-
perfection Jesus. So in the relation of Jesus, they are
-
transformed by beholding they become changed. This final generation theology
-
that God had start with m el Andreas And years
-
ago after the death of Ellen White. You could have
-
taken it right out of the counter Reformation. The Jesuits
-
had something very similar. They taught a form of perfectionistic legalism.
-
This happened because why not because Emil andreas And was
-
a Jesuit. Because it's human nature to want to do that,
-
to find a way where we help God out. So
-
look what he says stuff, not that I have already
-
obtained this or am already perfect, but I press on.
-
That's faith that never gives up. I press on to
-
make it my own. I will be one day because
-
why because Jesus has already made me his own. That's
-
the Reformers died over that distinction of the flames. They
-
realize that if you're not accepted at the beginning of
-
your journey, that you don't have a right now, righteousness
-
good enough for the judgment day?
-
Why bother?
-
And they knew the Gospel sets us free from fear. Brethren,
-
he says, I do not consider that I've made it
-
my own. But one thing I do forgetting what lies
-
behind and straying forward what lies ahead. I like verse fourteen.
-
I press on toward the goal for the price eyes
-
of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. I
-
like to end with a poem by Deborah Ann Belco.
-
It's called God Heals the Broken Heart. It's a simple poem.
-
God can do wonders with broken hearts. He can heal
-
and mend all the injured parts. But you must give
-
him your heart as it breaks, each little piece of
-
it and all the little flakes. God can perform miracles
-
and hearts that are damaged, He can undo the impact
-
where grief has ravaged. But you must go to him
-
and the hearts surrendered so he can do the repairs
-
without being hindered. God can do wonders, miracles he still
-
performs for on hearts that are broken, he mercifully transforms.
-
And then at the bottom of this poem they put
-
this passage from Psalms of one hundred and forty seven ver.
-
Three.
-
He healeth the broken in heart and bindeth up their wounds. Friends,
-
let us worship the Lord Jesus, the Lord Yahweh, the Godhead, Father, Son,
-
and Holy Spirit, that hearted love of eternity as our healer.
-
And thank God for all his mercies. And thank Jesus.
-
Thank God for Jesus that God has appointed Jesus. It's
-
the healer of the human race, our savior, the healer.
-
May God heal you and me. And let's covenant in
-
our lives not to be hard on other people unnecessary.
-
Not period.
-
We may have to intervene in our lives in our
-
different roles, but let's help other people get to heaven.
-
Is that fair enough? Okay?
-
God, bless you Father. You have said that you have
-
brought us out on eagles wings, and underneath are the
-
everlasting arms. And Father, those arms are our father's arms,
-
the mighty counselor's arms, and the other counselor who comes
-
to us to bring him to us. We are so
-
grateful for you, and thank you Father that, as we
-
have been told in the spirit of prophecy, you have
-
pledged every part of the Godhead, of the Father, of
-
the Son, the Holy Spirit, the three heavenly worthies, the
-
three heavenly beings, as she says, so that we will
-
be saved. And you proved it Jesus baptism as showing
-
up together, and you'll be there at the second coming
-
at the end of time. Lord, May you bring the
-
Holy Spirit into our lives. Help us to be a
-
repentant church, the Lord, a truly repentant church. Help us
-
to look for the salvation of other men and women
-
as primary in our lives, and loving others. Show your
-
love to us and thinking that love covers a multitude
-
of sins. And Lord, may we never give up the
-
right message, the Philadelphian form of Adventism, which has all
-
the doctrines right, but has Jesus in the heart. And Lord,
-
may we disown our identity with latesty. If we are
-
not latest sans, if we are repentant loving people, we're Philadelphians.
-
And Father give us Jesus help us to get there.
-
And just bless your dear people. May the fellowship in
-
the hall help them this weekend. And Lord, no matter
-
what happens to our nation this year, get us out
-
of politics in the church, so we're now worried about
-
it one way or the other.
-
We don't think the.
-
World is saved or not by who gets inaugurate who doesn't.
-
But we will pray for the new leader of this
-
country as we prayed for the last and Lord, when
-
the time comes we have to lay down our lives
-
for conscience, we'll lead that to God. But right now, Lord,
-
bless your people, Bless the food. I'm having the blessing
-
for them here in Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
Amen,
