So let's spo our heads and start the message of
-
the morning. Father God, thank you for Jesus. Thank you
-
that we have a faith that has been tried in
-
the fire and it's come out golden. And Jesus is
-
the gold, the man with the golden girdle, the gold
-
of Ephaz, which has made a person more precious than
-
gold to him. So help us today to understand. So
-
we don't come to church to look smart, We don't
-
come to church to look important. We come to church
-
for Jesus and help us to live for Him in
-
our communities and our mission in Jesus' name.
-
Amen.
-
The title of the message this morning is called the
-
Sabbath Revival. Our focus is in Acts thirteen. We are
-
in a series on the Book of Acts. Now what
-
book have I recommended for you to read as we
-
are going.
-
Through The Book of about Acts.
-
Acts of the Apostles by Ellen White, exactly the Sabbath Revival.
-
When Paul stood up at Antioch to speak in the
-
synagogue at Antiocha Pasidia, Paul motioned with his hand, and
-
he didn't proceeded to disclose the meaning of the Apostolic
-
Gospel for the people in that fertile field of labor.
-
It was a place that was ripe. For God's word
-
antioco pacitia means Antioch of the meadows. I said this
-
last week when I want to go to a place
-
with my wife. My wife's favorite spot is a custard
-
place in Colombia called meadows, and we go there and
-
she gets a vanilla custard with a cherry on top,
-
and I get chocolate custard with a cherry on top.
-
She gets a small and I get a large. Mentellingia
-
meadows is a good place to hang out for good reasons.
-
And so this place at antioqu Pasidia was a fertile
-
feel for Christ to open up the hearts of the world.
-
It represents the transition from Judaism to the gentile world.
-
It's the focal point where those who had opportunities begin
-
to attack those who receive opportunities.
-
The Holy Spirit had.
-
Led Paul and Barnabas to these fertile meadows, ripe and
-
ready for Jesus to make a difference. Friends, you can
-
work all your life, but if the ground is not right,
-
the seeds won't grow, the sheep won't feed, and it
-
won't make a difference. The Holy Spirit knows where fertile
-
meadows are found. In Paul's discourse at Antioch, we should
-
take note of the fact that his grand disclosure of
-
the gospel, and we find it right here in Act thirteen,
-
where he lays out the gospel, the gospel of Jesus
-
promised to the Patriarchs, the gospel of salvation through deliverance
-
by the power of God, the promise, the prophetic promise
-
of God. We should take note that it was a
-
Sabbath revelation, Acts thirteen. This is one of those huge
-
chapters hit our bibles that should zero us in to
-
the importance of the Seventh day Sabbath in gospel preaching
-
and teaching. I ask you the question this morning, why
-
is this Sabbath important? Is that okay? To ask why
-
is it important? The number seven Hebrew is a number
-
the chav The number seven Hebrew means oath. If I
-
already ask you next week, what does the number seven mean?
-
What would you say based on what I just said?
-
Oath?
-
Now in the Bible, an oath and a covenant. If
-
God is swearing an oath, God is making a covenant.
-
When God told, when God, when Abraham told abimelet to
-
get seven, you lambs. And there they swore an oath.
-
And they called that place Beersheba, because there they made
-
a covenant. Beersheba means well of the seven or well
-
of the oath, because the word seven is the same
-
word as the Hebrew word oath. So when God swears
-
an oath, what is he making with us? He's making
-
a covenant. And so the seventh day is the covenant day,
-
it is the oath day. It's the promised day when
-
God gets it done in our lives. When God rested
-
on the seventh day, he made an oath to bless
-
and save and bring real, real rest. Right there in
-
Genesis too, he blessed the sabbath day, he made it holy.
-
He rested from all his labor. And in Genesis too
-
to God finished his work on the seventh day, as
-
Jesus hung on the cross, as the sun was setting
-
and the Sabbath was coming. At sunset, Jesus said, it
-
is finished, and he rested in the tomb on the
-
seventh day. The one who made us saved us, the
-
one who created us redeemed us. And so the Sabbath
-
points back to creation and it's anchored in the Cross
-
of Calvary. So, friends, when you hold onto the Sabbath,
-
you're hanging on to that which points to Christ as
-
the creator of the world and as the redeemer of
-
the world. That's why Jesus is the Lord of the Sabbath.
-
The copy of the Ten Commandments in Exus twenty, creation
-
is given.
-
Is the reason for keeping the sabbath.
-
You reading Extus twenty, you keep the Sabbath because in
-
six days the Lord I mean Heaven, earth, the sea,
-
and all that.
-
Is in them.
-
So we keep the Sabbath because God is our creator.
-
In the copy of the Ten Commandments, how many of
-
you knew there's two copies ten Commandments in the Bible,
-
not just one Exus twenty And what's the other chapter
-
Deuteronomy five exactly and Deuteronomy five another copy of the
-
Ten Commandments is given, but it's a little different.
-
On the Sabbath.
-
The reason for keeping the Sabbath is that God has
-
saved us from slavery and He has redeemed us. And
-
so the Sabbath is not just about God being our creator.
-
The Sabbath is about God being our redeemer, the Lord.
-
Now the Lord of the Sabbath is Jesus, he says.
-
So he says, the Sabbath is the sabbath of the
-
Lord your God yahueh Elahim, the Lord your God, and
-
Christ has to have those credentials to be the Lord
-
of the Sabbath. It doesn't take rocket science to connect
-
Jesus' claim with the fourth commandment. So he put the
-
two degree together. We have learned that the Sabbath teaches
-
us that the one who made us saved us. The
-
Cross shows us the moment in time when Jesus said
-
it is finished, and when he died for our sins,
-
creation and the Cross converge, and Jesus is our new beginning.
-
That's what the Sabbath is all about. Friends, Christ was
-
buried just in time to rest on the Sabbath day,
-
to give us a new beginning on Sunday morning. And
-
some people say, well, how do you know that. Shouldn't
-
the Sabbath start in the morning. Some people think that, well,
-
there's one verse in Luke twenty three fifty four which
-
should end that It's as very clear as they were
-
burying Jesus on Friday, Good Friday. It says the Sabbath
-
was about to begin, and that was sunset. So the
-
Sabbath doesn't start Saturday morning. The Sabbath starts when Luke says.
-
It starts in Luke twenty three fifty four when the
-
sun was setting, and they put Jesus in the tomb
-
to keep the Sabbath, because had they not got him
-
him there by sunset, they would not have kept the
-
Sabbath from their thinking. And so the Bible's clear it
-
starts with sunset. How do we know that because of
-
the death baring resurrection of Christ. We don't have to
-
be geniuses to figure out that. As they kept the
-
Sabbath by placing him in the tomb because it was
-
coming right away, It says in Luke twenty three fifty four,
-
we should be ready for the Sabbath.
-
In the same way. Sunday is the eighth day.
-
And when I say that, well, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven,
-
and what's the next number eight? But it's also the
-
first of the next week, and so the early Christians
-
thought of Sunday as the eighth day. The first day,
-
Sunday is the eighth day, and it is the new
-
beginning day. It's the day in which everything gets starting over,
-
the week starts over. It's also the day of the Resurrection.
-
It's the new life day when Christ came to life. Now,
-
Christ's name in the Greek according to Gomatria, which is
-
the assigning of numerical values to letters, Christ's name is
-
not six sixty six like the beast. Jesus' name is
-
eight eight eight our new beginning. On steroids, you see,
-
eight means the new beginning. Eight eight eight means God
-
gets done a new beginning, three eighths our new beginning.
-
Many Christians day believe that they can set aside the
-
Sabbath and rest in Christ on their own terms. Have
-
you ever heard that, Well, I'll just pick a day
-
that I want to read. I'll just choose how I
-
want to rest. I'll make Jesus my rest every day.
-
They give all kinds of stuff like that. There's a
-
problem with this idea. It is not Jesus or his
-
Father's solution for your life, it's yours. In the Gospel
-
of God, the Sabbath teaches us the vital truth that
-
we are finished by faith.
-
Before we start.
-
We rest in Jesus's power as our creator and redeemer,
-
in his finished work for us. If we don't start
-
with completeness, if we don't start with cessation and rest our,
-
life is undone. There is no peace. There is no
-
peace for the wicked. The Bible says, because they stir
-
up muck all the time. We need to have something
-
solid in our lives that when God got it done,
-
we rest in Jesus's power as our creator and redeemer.
-
When Christ died on the cross, the book of Hebrews
-
starts by saying he set down at the right hand
-
of God, which means he got it done for us.
-
I've heard all kinds of preachers, all kinds of philosopher,
-
king theologian types tell me and us and people in
-
the church that somehow the cross wasn't good enough, that
-
somehow it wasn't it wasn't it didn't achieve enough, that
-
we need another generation to win the war because Jesus
-
really couldn't quite get it done.
-
That's nonsense.
-
Hebrews one says he has sented to God, he set
-
down at the right hand of God, quoting Psalms one
-
hundred and ten, where it says rule in the midst
-
of your enemies until I make your enemies a footstool
-
for your feet. God isn't waiting for you and me
-
to prove something Jesus could not prove. God is waiting
-
for you and me to surrender to Jesus, to be
-
found in Christ, to walk with Christ, to be obedient
-
to Christ. Not because we can prove a thing, but
-
because we owe a lot to the one who got
-
it done.
-
For us on the Cross of Calvary.
-
Gospel of God, the Gospel of Jesus, the Gospels that
-
does not provide a platform for more worry in our
-
lives where we have to figure out how to fix ourselves.
-
The Gospel is the gospel of peace and rest that
-
is unleashed by the power of the Holy Spirit. In
-
Jesus and Hebrews four, the Sabbath is a sign of
-
the Gospel. So you know, if Paul wanted to argue
-
that the Sabbath is done away with, all he'd have
-
to do is say the Sabbath is done away with.
-
Then he'd be disagreeing with Jesus. It doesn't do that.
-
In Hebrews four, the Sabbath is marshaled as an argument
-
for this for the Gospel, and you don't use something
-
that's done away with as an argument for the gospel.
-
Hebrews four. Let's look at it. Sabbath teaches us gospel
-
truth that God Sabbath rest remains Hebrews four, Verse four.
-
I'll clip through this, for he God, God has spoken
-
of the seventh day in this way, and God rested
-
on the seventh day from all his works.
-
That's quoting Genesis.
-
Two, verse five, and again in this place he said
-
they shall never enter my rest. Now he's talking here
-
about the failure of the Jewish people to enter into
-
the rest of Palestine. They were disobedient, they didn't have
-
a relationship with God. Verse six. Since therefore remains for
-
some to enter it in no other thereds. The same
-
kind of disobedience that we saw in the Old Testament,
-
we see it today. Paul says, in my day back then,
-
and those who formally received the good news failed to
-
enter because of disobedience. Verse seven. Again he sets a
-
certain day. And let's go back to verse six. It
-
says they failed to enter because of what what does
-
it say because of disobedience? Now, friends, faith and obedience
-
are the same thing. Now, God realizes our faith is faulty.
-
He realizes our obedience were growing in it. But friends,
-
we're either moving in the world or we're moving in
-
the wrong direction. And so disobedience here defines the faithless generation.
-
Verse seven, again he sets a certain day to day. Now,
-
he's saying, in the present year, the time we're living
-
in right now is a time of tremendous gospel opportunity,
-
he says, saying through David so long afterwards, and the
-
words already quote today. When you hear his voice, do
-
not harden your hearts. If you're here, it felt God
-
speaking to you, and you knew God was saying, come
-
into a deeper relationship with me.
-
You ever felt that, well you should. I have.
-
I'll put both hands up, you know, because I have.
-
When you hear that voice, listen to it. Do not
-
harden your hearts. The Holy Spirit is mediating the word
-
of Christ, who is the word of God to you
-
on your conscience.
-
Verse eight.
-
For if Joshua had given them the rest, Now Joshua
-
was the old word for Jesus, Yes, shoe are for
-
if you shoe had given them rest. In other words,
-
when Joshua brought them into the Promised Land, if that
-
had been the rest that really worked, God would not
-
speak later of another day. It somehow didn't happen as
-
it should have back then verse nine. So then there
-
remains what kind of rest? The Greek is sabbatismos, a
-
sabbath rest for the people of God. How many of
-
you want to rest in your own works or rest
-
in God's sabbath rest for you? See the Gospel rest
-
is is pictured as a seventh day sabbath rest that
-
we need in God. The sabbath teaches us the Gospel truth,
-
and hear this, we are finished by faith before we start.
-
Adam and Eve's first full day of life was rest,
-
and from that sabbath rest they had a new beginning.
-
That's how it works in our life too. We don't
-
strive to earn acceptance in the Gospel. We don't do
-
something to prove to God that we're worthy of being
-
loved by faith. We rest in God's acceptance of us,
-
earned by Jesus in his perfect life, his amazing death on.
-
The cross of Calvary for our sins.
-
You know, some people get all nervous when you say that, well, Jesus, Jesus,
-
Jesus couldn't have died for my sins. That's a pagan idea.
-
Dear heart, Jesus died for your sins. Every sin you've
-
ever committed, occurring to Isaiah fifty three, was funneled through him.
-
God caused to meet in him all our sins. Peter
-
says he bore our sins in his body on the cross.
-
That is nonsense theology. Christ died because your sins were
-
a great barrier that kept you from being resurrected. Unless
-
he dealt with the broken law and the impact of
-
your sins, he had no right to pull you out
-
of the ground in a resurrection. He couldn't raise the
-
wicked or the righteous. And this is why the devil
-
opposed Christ when he resurrected Moses in the Book of
-
Jude because it looked illegal to do that. Christ had
-
to deal with the law by atonement. Satan hates the
-
Sabbath day I'll tell you why, because he hates the
-
cross of Christ. He knows that if he can attack
-
the Sabbath do away with it, he will remove the
-
most powerful ordinance, the most powerful institution in God's eternal
-
law that keeps us in a saving relationship with God
-
the Father, his son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit
-
He knows that the Sabbath is the Holy Spirit day
-
because God breathes into it his own presence, his Holy Spirit,
-
life and friend. When you receive God, you receive the
-
Spirit of God. So he hates the Sabbath Access thirty
-
one sixteen. Therefore, the people of Israel shall keep the
-
what what does it say the Bible? They shall keep
-
the Now, Paul says, the Israel of God is the
-
church he identifies in Galatians as God's people. Therefore, the
-
people of Israel that's God's people, shall keep the Sabbath,
-
observing the Sabbath throughout their generations as a what what
-
does it call it? As a perpetual covenant. You see
-
that Now the Hebrew is breeched alarm. It's literally ever
-
lasting covenant. You can't do away with an everlasting covenant
-
verse seventeen. It how do me see the word it
-
in verse seventeen. Now, that's not what the Hebrew says.
-
The Hebrew is the word she. You know that write
-
that down.
-
She not it she. It's the pronoun she. It's feminine.
-
She is a sign forever between me and.
-
The people of Israel that in six days the Lord
-
made heaven earth from the seventh say he rested and
-
was refreshed. That's the way my translation has it. And
-
he gave to Moses when he had made an end
-
of speaking with him upon Mount Sign at the two
-
tables of the testimony. Tables of stone, we know they're
-
blue sapphire stone in Exous twenty four written with the
-
finger of God. Now in both Exus thirty one thirteen
-
and Exus thirty one seventeen, which we just read, the
-
Sabbath is called a she in the Hebrew language, not
-
in it or a he as a Hebrew pronoun, but
-
she much like a queen, a queen.
-
You don't mistreat a queen, do you? Or do you?
-
You don't mistreat a queen.
-
In verse seventeen, a masculine verb is used for the
-
King of the Sabbath, who is God, literally he meaning
-
God rested, and he was filled in the Hebrew with
-
breath or spirit life nefish, the word for.
-
His soul is used.
-
God was filled with life, with breathing life on the
-
seventh day.
-
That means the Sabbath is the holy spirit day.
-
There are seven eyes of God, which are the seventh
-
spirits of God. The seventh day is the Holy Spirit.
-
Day seventh means the complete spirit of God, the totality
-
of God. If you want a relationship with God, you
-
need the Holy Spirit in your life. God has set
-
aside the Sabbath for our personal renewal and revival. The
-
Sabbath mediates the Holy Spirit. It's the institution where God
-
meets with us in the cool of the evening. In
-
the cool of the evening, the Lord was walking in
-
the midst of the garden when the breeze was their
-
Holy Spirit presence. We need the Sabbath. The Sabbath revival
-
is placed in the heart of the ten Commandment law
-
of God to ensure that we stay with God every
-
week in a relationship with Jesus renewed on the Sabbath day.
-
Every week we have a revival. Every week we have
-
a revival until the end of time. Friends, do you
-
realize if you're in a revival every week with God
-
and you walk with God for the week, you'll be saved.
-
You won't be lost, because life eternal is to know God.
-
In John seventeen three and Jesus Christ, whom he has sent,
-
God gave us the Sabbath to have a lock tight
-
velcrow relationship with them. So people say, oh, the Sabbath
-
is you ever hear people say the Sabbath is a
-
legalistic Jewish relic.
-
You ever hear him say that?
-
I like him to answer the God who spoke its SINAI,
-
who wrote with his own finger that, and see how
-
he responds. That's an insult to the God of the
-
universe to make a statement like that. Seventh Day is
-
the revival day. Jesus knew this, and that is why
-
Jesus just before he died. Jesus commanded his disciples to
-
keep the seventh day Sabbath. Most people read right through
-
Matthew twenty four ignore the Bible. Instead of changing the Sabbath,
-
Jesus reaffirmed the Sabbath for every believer all the way
-
down the timeline to the Second Coming. Let me show you.
-
Turn to Matthew twenty four in your Bible. I'll have
-
the verses on the screen. I like this verse. But
-
he who endures to the end might be saved. What
-
I didn't read that?
-
Right?
-
He who endures to the end will be saved. That's
-
the language of certainty. Go to the next verse, and
-
this Gospel of the Kingdom might be preached throughout the
-
whole world. What will be preached? You're correcting me as
-
a testimony to all nations. Then the end might come?
-
So is that? Is that what it says will come?
-
Now, these are four statements of certainty, will be saved,
-
will be preached, the Gospel will come, and so on.
-
So statements of certainty. I think I said four. Let
-
me see count those up. One, two, Yeah, well, I
-
mean it's three. Hey, I'm not great at math because
-
I'm reading in real time, but you get the point. Certainty,
-
not uncertainty, and both exous thirty one. Excuse me, with
-
all this context, Paul preached at that synagogue in Antiocha,
-
Pasidia with apostolic power.
-
On what day, on the Sabbath day.
-
There's a reason why this great discourse on the Gospel
-
is on the Sabbath day, because it's a Sabbath revival.
-
Acts thirteen twenty six. Brethren, Paul's preaching sons of the
-
family of Abraham. He's not denigrating the Jewish nation and
-
those among you that fear God. Not everybody does to
-
us has been sent the message of this salvation. God
-
has given the Jewish people the Gospel before he gave
-
anybody else, Ball says. Look at verse twenty seven. He continues,
-
for those who live in Jerusalem, and they're rulers because
-
they did not recognize him or understand the utterances of
-
the prophets which are read every Sabbath fulfilled these by
-
condemning him has always been a fatal error. To ignore
-
the Sabbath and Bible prophecy. They go together. Daniel seven
-
twenty five, the Book of Daniel. It says that the
-
little horn Antichrist's power would think to change times and law.
-
He'd attack the Sabbath in God's law. I mean he
-
Christians ignore prophecy. They don't understand the warnings of God
-
to retain the Fourth Commandment. The Jewish people the time
-
of Jesus were too busy to understand Bible prophecy. All
-
they had to excuse as well. Only the great minds
-
can understand prophecy. I'm not smart enough to get it,
-
so they didn't study.
-
Look.
-
Last call to this world's foiund in the sixth plague
-
of the book Revelation is a call for the evangelical
-
world to wake up and understand prophecy. It's also a
-
call to the sabbath keeping world to keep their clothes on,
-
have the righteousness of Christ, and not to slip into legalism.
-
That's what Christ says just before he returns a dual
-
love call to the church. And so they failed to
-
recognize the power of the Word of God in prophecy
-
that pointed to Jesus. Thus they ran rough shot over.
-
The Gospel Verse twenty eight continues, though they could charge
-
him with nothing deserving death, yet they asked Pilot to
-
have him killed.
-
That's awful.
-
And when they have fulfilled all that was written of him,
-
see they were fulfilling Bible prophecy, Paul says. They took
-
him down from the tree and lady him in a tomb.
-
They wanted to bury him and get him out of
-
their lives. Jesus was laid in a tomb, and Jesus
-
rested on the in the tomb on He was laid
-
in the tomb.
-
Just before the Sabbath, according.
-
To Luke, so they could keep it because it was
-
starting at sunset.
-
He was in the tomb keeping.
-
The Sabbath in the dark hours of the Sabbath and
-
the light hours of the Sabbath, or else the new
-
Testament makes no sense. And thus we know that the
-
Sabbath day is a full twenty four hour period. We
-
don't have to go back to creation. We go to
-
the cross. It defines it. Christ was laid in the tomb,
-
he rested, just as he did a creation at the
-
dawn of time. Now, the next word in Acts thirteen
-
thirty is the word butt. It's a huge butt that follows.
-
And this is one you should take this. I don't
-
know if you like mark. He may mark their bibles
-
up here. You mark your bible up a little bit.
-
I have great highlighters that don't bleed through, but this
-
is one to highlight, maybe to mark Acts thirteen thirty.
-
But God raised him from the dead.
-
Hey, you like that?
-
Now, Christ said he raised himself. Yeah, you destroy this
-
temple in three days and I will raise it up. Now, God,
-
the Father, God, the Son, God Holy Spirit raised Christ
-
from the dead. They were all together. The life that
-
was in Christ reached out to the call of God Almighty,
-
the Father, who said, thou art my son to day
-
have forgotten thee Thou art a priest forever after the
-
order of Kezidak, got sworn an oath and will not relent.
-
The Book of Hebrews says that is the language of resurrection.
-
When God yanked his son out of the grave, and
-
the son came, and the father came, and they met
-
in the flash of light, that was Christ coming to
-
life on resurrection morning.
-
Only God can do that. God raised him from the dead.
-
Friends, Since God raised Jesus from the dead, God can
-
raise you from the dead. You are not trapped by
-
your sins. You are not in the control of your past.
-
I mean, every week it seems somebody in my life
-
tries to remind me where I came from. You ever
-
had somebody do that to you? You know you came
-
from the awful background. You know this, and that I
-
don't care where I came from. You know where I'm going.
-
I'm going to heaven. I'm going to heaven because Jesus
-
died for my sins. I have an atonement that covers
-
my family, that places me in a right standing before God.
-
And I don't give two sins what someone thinks of me.
-
If Christ thinks that I'm his, that's the defining moment
-
and point in my.
-
Life, and it should be for all of us. Friends.
-
Because the law was broken the Law of God has
-
kept human beings in the grave, whether good or bad,
-
with no resurrection unless the broken law can be atoned.
-
For there was no permanent resurrection for anyone because the
-
law had been broken, had been broken without atonement.
-
When Jesus died on the cross of Calvary, John.
-
One twenty nine says, behold the lamb of God, who
-
takes with the sin of the world, world, the endemic
-
sin of the world. Christ was crucified near the altar
-
of the red heifer, which means the atom heifer in Hebrew,
-
and heifer is feminine. The Adam and Eve sacrificed for
-
contacting the dead. We have contacted Adam and Eve and
-
our Dna were dead in sin. Christ died for the
-
collective sin of the human race on Calvary's cross, so
-
he has the new atom. He would have the right
-
and the authority to resurrect every human being, good or evil,
-
and thus he can bring judgment to the world. But
-
Jesus didn't die just to make a point. Some people said, well,
-
you know, Jesus just dot to show us that he
-
loves us. Well, Jesus did that when he healed. I mean,
-
it doesn't look very loving when you're getting whacked to death.
-
It is a revelation the love of God. I get that. Friends.
-
Jesus died because there was no other way to deal
-
with the broken law of God than to deal with
-
it through blood atonement. And he shed his blood. And
-
I'm not ashamed of the blood of Christ. It's not
-
an ugly or evil thing. It is thet beautiful color
-
in the world. I'm sorry I had.
-
To keep.
-
Get emotional about that, all right. Jesus died to deal
-
with my stuff and your stuff, the ugly stuff that
-
keeps us away from God. When we are baptized, and
-
it says in Roman Si, into Christ's death bear on resurrection,
-
our past has dealt with, our present is accepted, and
-
the future is defined by the road of acceptance. The
-
medieval Catholic Church taught falsely that we are only accepted
-
at the end of a long purification process that ends
-
in perfection. That's Roman Catholic theology from the Council of Trent.
-
The Reformers died in the flames for the simple teaching
-
of Christ our righteousness that through justification by faith, by
-
accepting Christ as your savior, you're accepted at that moment
-
in time, your heart has regenerated, as John Calvin wrote
-
beautifully in his Third Is Volume three of the Institutes
-
of the Christian Religion, exitting scripture correctly, and we are
-
at that moment a child of God. And it's the
-
joy of acceptance that changes the life. It's the kindness
-
of God that brings us to repentance. Friends, I am
-
grateful for the death of Baryl and the resurrection of Jesus.
-
Paul calls that the Apostolic Gospel Friend Jesus wasn't resurrected
-
to be a ghost. Some people think you die, you
-
go to heaven, you're ghosts. He appeared in bodily form
-
to many. The Greek for a peer used in Acts
-
thirteen thirty one is the Greek word from which we
-
get a word optics.
-
They could see.
-
Him with their eyes, they could touch him, as John says,
-
with their hands the word of life. He was manifested
-
Acts thirteen thirty one. And for many days he appeared.
-
That's the word optically, appeared to those who came up
-
him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses
-
to the people. Friend, we have a new Testament in
-
our Bible, that is an eyewitness account that Jesus was
-
raised from the dead, that Jesus descended to heaven, to
-
the right hand of God, and they saw him go
-
without a rocket ship. I mean, you know their struggle.
-
Was there anything? You know?
-
You hear all these physicists.
-
I go in line, I watch these physicist youtubes videos
-
and they they said, well, we don't know if there's
-
anything like anti gravity. Now I know there is. You
-
know why because I see it right there in Act one.
-
He went up, it's anti gravity. We have a new
-
Testament in our hand that tells us the truth. Now,
-
those early Christians were not afraid to die. Sure, they
-
were afraid to die in the sense it hurts, but
-
they knew if they died for Christ, they would live
-
again because Christ died and came to life, and no power,
-
no intimidation in the Roman world, would keep them from
-
proclaiming Christ to their world. You can call it what
-
you like, but the early Church called this victory, the
-
victory of Jesus, the Gospel, the good News, the Younglian
-
We don't get out of the ground and resurrection morning
-
because we're good people. Did you know that? How me
-
think you get out of the groun because I'm a
-
good person. You're going to get out of the ground
-
because you're Christ. If you belong to Christ, he defines
-
your futures no longer about you. We will be raised
-
at the end of time because Jesus was raised in time.
-
We will be accepted in the judgment day because He
-
went to the judgment day at the cross.
-
For us.
-
The gospel is good news that Jesus died for me
-
and you, that Jesus was buried to take away my sins,
-
and that Jesus was raised for my acceptance, my justification
-
from broken law. That's what one Corinthians fifteen, and that's
-
what Romans for teach.
-
So clearly.
-
That is why Romans eight to one says there is
-
no condemnation for those who are in Christ. Jesus, you
-
ever been hard on yourself? Come on, have you ever
-
been heard of yourself? Can you think of where you've
-
let the Lord down? And yeah, how many of you
-
feel like you've let the Lord down once in your life?
-
Keep your hands high, every hands you go up.
-
We all have. That's a healthy admission.
-
I can't stand being around people who think they never
-
let the Lord down the God's gift of the human race,
-
and they virtue signal all the time about how bad
-
I am. In their minds. They don't have to tell
-
me I'm bad. I'm a sinner, but I'm a saint
-
called and saved by grace. To obey, but not out
-
of fear, out of gratefulness. There is therefore now no
-
condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus Roman's eight
-
one friend. Jesus got it done for you and me
-
on Calvary's cross, and that is why we live for
-
him in a state of acceptance. And OBEEDI is through
-
the power of the Holy Spirit, not our own power.
-
And that is why we share the good news of
-
the Gospel of Christ with others in need, because the
-
truth is not depressing. The truth is not about some
-
miserable road we have. The truth is about what Jesus
-
has done for us, and what Jesus will do through us,
-
but not us Acts thirteen thirty two. And so Paul says,
-
and we bring you the good news. If you ever
-
had someone stand up by the way, I have a
-
lot to speak to you today. I'm gonna talk to
-
you about the bad news in the Bible. You have
-
someone to do that. I heard that once. Who wants
-
to listen to bad news from the pulpit. Look, even
-
when God disciplines us, it's good news because he wants
-
to bring us Jesus. So Paul says, we bring you
-
the good news that what God promised to the fathers
-
verse thirty three, this he has fulfilled to us their
-
children by doing.
-
What What does it say? Bye what raising Jesus?
-
As also it has written the second Psalm, thou art
-
my son today have begotten thee I will focus on
-
that in a future sermon, But here the focal point
-
is that in the resurrection of Jesus, the world has changed.
-
Good news has come to us. We are no longer
-
ruled by the fear of death. Lives are changed. And
-
as for this fact verse thirty four, that he raised
-
him from the dead, no more to return to corruption.
-
He's spoke in this.
-
Way, I will give you the holy and sure blessings
-
of David, dear heart. Christ will never die again. Hebrews
-
seven tells us he has the power of an indestructible life.
-
Therefore he is able to say for all time those
-
who come to God through Him, Since he always lives
-
to make intercession for us. Christ resurrections proof we have
-
a high priest. Christ's resurrection is proof that life has won.
-
Death has been defeated. Jesus is not subject to death anymore.
-
Jesus is the one who holds the keys the death
-
and the grave and the book of Revelation. So if you
-
hold the hand of the one who holds the keys,
-
you will not be dominated by your own death. You
-
have a future. My father died a repentant man with
-
lots of character flaws, so I guess he doesn't pass
-
the perfection test, but he died having a copy of
-
the Desire of Age is the last chapter read to
-
him in his dying moments, to my father and your father,
-
to my God and your God. And that chapter is
-
about the acceptance that we have in Jesus. And if
-
I'm telling you, if my dad can't make it with
-
all his flaws, holding on to Jesus, religion is a sham.
-
My dad died in Christ. I would rather die in
-
Christ and not be all that sure of how good
-
I am, but real confident of Him, than to think
-
I'm the most perfect person on planet Earth and have
-
none of Jesus in my life. Jesus is the good
-
news I need thirteen thirty eight. Let it be known
-
to you, brethren, that through this man, forgiveness of sins
-
is proclaimed to you, and by him, everyone that believes
-
is freed from everything from which you could not be
-
freed by the law of Moses. Friends, the law doesn't
-
set you free. Jesus sets you free. The law doesn't
-
forgive you the lawgiver who is God, and Jesus, they
-
forgive you. The law cannot get you out of the
-
ground in resurrection morning, but Jesus can and will, because
-
he atoned for the law. The power of sin is
-
the law, it says in one Corinthians fifteen. But the
-
power of God for a new life is in Jesus,
-
the lawgiver.
-
Friends.
-
Paul is here saying that Jesus is the end of
-
the law as a means of proving our righteousness so
-
we can be saved. Jesus is not the end of
-
the law is a moral standard. Christ is the end
-
of the law for righteousness. Big difference. No Christian will
-
be saved he relies on the law to be his
-
or her Sae period Romans three twenty for no human
-
being will be justified in his sight by works of
-
the law, since through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
-
Is that a good verse? Is it?
-
He said, Look, you're not gonna be saved because you're
-
a good lawgiver, lawkeeper. Uh huh verse twenty one. But
-
now the righteousness of God has been manifest. He's quoting
-
Dane on nine twenty four seventy week prophecy. But now
-
the righteousness of God has been manifested apart and also
-
Isaiah fifty three. They merge, But now the righteousness of
-
God has been manifested apart from the law. Although the
-
law and the prophets spear witness tood and he'll say
-
later on, there's nothing wrong with the law, it's holy
-
justin good Do we then make void the law through faith?
-
No God forbid we establish it. But he's saying, is
-
that's not where God's righteousness comes from. The righteousness we
-
need for the judgment day doesn't come because we're good lawkeepers.
-
But now the righteousness of God has been manifested. To
-
go back to verse two, in the slight has been
-
manifested apart from the law, although the law and the
-
prophets bear witness to it. Next verse verse twenty two,
-
the righteousness of who? What does it say to say
-
your righteousness? Whose righteousness?
-
That verse? God's?
-
Now, if you have to pick between God's righteousness and
-
your righteousness, which one is good? Come on, answer up
-
God's righteousness. That's the righteousness that matters the righteousness of God.
-
How through faith in Jesus Christ. See Christ is our
-
ticket to righteousness. No Christ, no righteousness through faith in
-
Jesus Christ. For whom, for the perfect, for the people
-
who have achieved some kind of great holiness, for all
-
who believe, Oh, for all who believe. For there's no distinction.
-
I don't know about you, but I like that since
-
all have sin verse twenty three and fall short of
-
the glory of God. Here's what happens. They are justified
-
the Greek means legally acquitted by His kindness as grace,
-
as a gift through the redemption which is in Christ.
-
Jesus.
-
Now that verse makes me want to worship God. That
-
verse makes me want to bow down and say thank
-
you Lord for loving me. And love is law keeping.
-
Because God is love and his law is love. We
-
cannot love unless we come in humility and we're broken,
-
and we give up on ourselves, and we give into
-
the truth of a loving, kind, justifying God, who then
-
grows us and keeps us as his family Romans ten four.
-
For Christ is the end of the law that everyone
-
who has faith and believe. That's a lousy translation. It's
-
the revised standard version. The New King James version hits
-
the Greek on the nail. For Christ is the end
-
of the law for righteousness to everyone who believes. And
-
actually I have the New King James in my manuscript
-
for that reason, so that's ignored.
-
That verse will pass it on. I'll quote it.
-
For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness
-
to everyone who believes. Now, the Greek word for end
-
means goal. The purpose and end of the law is
-
to bring us to Christ. The law is not a
-
good judge. Well, excuse me. The law is a good judge.
-
The law is a good moral standard, isn't it?
-
Yes or no? Yeah?
-
But the law cannot atone for the crimes you have
-
committed against God. The law is a lowsy savior. The
-
lawgiver is God, and that is why God was in Christ,
-
not counting our trespasses against us. When you come to
-
the cross of Christ. You don't see a broken law
-
on Calvary's cross. You see a broken lawgiver on Calvary's cross,
-
dying and crying out in the night because he loves us. Father,
-
forgive them. They know not what they do. And Acts
-
thirteen forty Paul warned the people of the Synagogue of
-
Antioch to not try to treat this gospel lightly, and
-
don't think that God wouldn't judge them just because they're
-
the Jewish people, just because they have all these advantages.
-
They may be keeping the Sabbath, but if they aren't
-
keeping Christ in their hearts, if they don't value the Gospel,
-
they're dead in the water. Acts thirteen forty one.
-
Behold you, scoffers, and wonder and perish, for I do a.
-
Deed in your days, a deed you will never believe
-
if one declares it to you. As they went out,
-
the people begged that these things might be told them
-
the next Sabbath. Now every preacher would like someone to say, Pastor,
-
he talked about Jesus this week, he talked about the
-
Gospels and prophecy. Come back and tell us more next Sabbath.
-
Here's what a good gospel. Preacher doesn't want to hear. Pastor,
-
we're sick of prophecy. Pastor, quit talking about the Sabbath.
-
You know all this gospel stuff that Jesus died for
-
our sins. Now give us some good philosophy. I'm telling you,
-
those people wanted the word of God. See this was
-
the meadows of Basidia, the fertile ground for Bible truth.
-
In X thirteen forty two. Notice here that the devout
-
Jewish converts wanted Paul to return the next Sabbath to
-
share the gospel and prophecy. They wanted more of the
-
gospel priest on the Sabbath day because of the revival,
-
the Sabbath revival that had occurred. The Sabbath day, friends,
-
is the revival day, the seventh Day, the Oath Day,
-
the Covenant day, when God gets it done in our lives,
-
when he finishes his work, when he renews us verse
-
forty three. And when the meeting of the synagogue broke up,
-
many Jews and devout converts to Judaism follow Paul and Barnabas,
-
who spoke to them and urged them to continue in.
-
The grace of God. And that is what Paul's encouraging them.
-
You're not saying, well, by the way, you just do
-
your best to just be perfect all Or does he
-
say do your best to not forget that God loves you?
-
What's he doing there? If you continue the grace of God?
-
What's the focal point of your experience? How bad it
-
is or how good God.
-
Has been to you in Jesus. Come on, it's the latter,
-
isn't it.
-
How many of you are grateful this morning that Christ
-
has forgiven every one of your sins? Can you tell
-
him that by raising your hand. It's a huge reality
-
for us to latch onto God forgave me. At this point,
-
the focus is on the Jews, but it quickly shifts
-
to the Gentiles verse forty four. The next Sabbath, almost
-
the whole city gathered together hear the word of God.
-
So now it's not just the synagod, it's the whole
-
town verse forty five. Well, not yet, friends, Lifeless Christian
-
preaching will not attract the world to Jesus, nor will
-
lifeless christless lives attract others to Jesus as well. The
-
Jews in Anyhock didn't want the people to know of
-
about Jesus, who is greater than the law friend. Just
-
because we keep the Seventh Day Sabbath on Saturday, it
-
does not mean that we own the Sabbath, that we're
-
in charge of it, and it has no place in
-
the world. God has given us the knowledge of the
-
Sabbath so we can know Jesus better, but we don't
-
own it. I've moved around to a number of churches
-
outside of Aventism Seventh Day Adventism. I want to confess
-
to you in my interactions at WAVA with David Ruhlmann
-
and many others, I found Christians that far exceed the
-
piety of the brightest and best preachers in Aventism. I've
-
seen it people who have an advanced sense of God's presence,
-
who are holy spirit, godly people, but they do not
-
have the Sabbath. Doctor David Rouman was a Sabbath keeper
-
at Wava. He had had an experience of Sabbatarianism in
-
his life, but not everyone. And you know, these dear
-
people are not people, They're God's people. In fact, they
-
have much to teach us on what it means to
-
be Christians. And I remember distinctly the love that was
-
given to me during my hard years of ministry, when
-
I was banished for turning in my associate demonized across
-
the world field and God brought these godly people into
-
my life who would not let me slip into a
-
state of discouragement, but gave me an opportunities to preach
-
and teach the truth. I'd never forgive what doctor Ruhlmann
-
did one day when he called me into his office.
-
His pastor Mic had been getting all these negative messages
-
on the radio about your preaching. Chuck Swindall just preached
-
on the stay of the dead pretty much. People are ghosts.
-
They go to heaven right away and the big tonguel
-
of light things. And I had preached a sermon right
-
beside it where I talked about the Bible teaching of
-
death the living. No, they will die. The dead know nothing.
-
To be absent from the body, present with the Lord
-
doesn't mean you go straight to heaven. It means you're
-
present in the future resurrection. So it's the timing that matters.
-
But he says, you know, I don't know how to
-
soar through that. You may be right, you may be wrong.
-
But he says, one thing I know is you lift
-
up Jesus. You take us to the Cross of Christ,
-
and you're doing it more than many of us are.
-
And I'm not going to take you off the radio
-
because we need the Jesus that is proclaimed. And I
-
learned something from that. I learned as important as it distinctive,
-
is like the Sabbath. It's more important to lift up
-
Jesus or nothing works. Nothing works.
-
It is the.
-
Kindness of God that brings us to repentance. What Paul says,
-
Acts thirteen forty five. The next Sabbath, almost the whole
-
city gathered together hear the word of God. But when
-
the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with what's
-
the word jealousy, and they contradicted what was spoken by
-
Paul and reviled him lifeless Christless preaching goes nowhere. The
-
people who heard Paul found in Jesus something more profound
-
than the Law. They found the lawgiver, and the Jews
-
and Antioch didn't want the people to know about Jesus,
-
who's greater than the Law. It's all about them, friends,
-
it's not about us. Because we have a knowledge of
-
the Sabbath. The Bible refers to those people who do
-
not have a knowledge of the Sabbath at the time
-
of the end. As the servants of God who do
-
not yet have the seal of God, the Sabbath seal,
-
they are His people. They have done great works for
-
God than the Reformation. There is no criticism of God.
-
He will lead them to truth. But guess what we
-
better have Jesus or we're not the people of the truth.
-
In verse forty five, the Greek says, they blaspheme Paul.
-
They curse Paul for teaching Jesus and the truth of
-
the Gospel that they need to hear in the Sabbath Revival.
-
They started swearing and cussing him out. These are religious people,
-
So I once had that happened to me. I had
-
a church leader call me on the phone and literally
-
do the same because I was holding a standard I
-
needed to hold to protect a person. Unbelievable what a
-
church person can do if they're unconverted. So how did
-
they handle being blaspheed? They cranked it up to become
-
more bold. Look at verse forty six, and Paul and
-
Barnabas spoke out boldly, saying it was necessary that the
-
word of God should be spoken first to you, since
-
you thrust it from you and judge yourselves unworthy of
-
internal life. Behold, we turn to the gentiles. This is
-
the point where the shift becomes the world, where it
-
moves from Judaism to the entire world verse forty seven.
-
For so the Lord has commanded as saying, I upset
-
you to be a light for the gentiles, that you
-
may bring salvation to the other most parts of the earth.
-
Don't think for a minute that one church can contain
-
the glory and the goodness of God. We are messengers,
-
but we are not the good news.
-
Dear heart.
-
God has a way of bringing the truth to people
-
need when certain ones who think they own the truth
-
obstruct the truth. I am gladly a member of the
-
Seventh day Aventist Church because that movement.
-
This movement is.
-
Identifiable in Daniel twelfth and Revelation twelve as a prophetic movement.
-
But I also realizes that the challenges that are facing
-
our movement based on prophecy. The seventh Church of the
-
book Revelation, the Church of Late to Sea is the
-
Seventh Day Church. Without Christ, We're dead in the water.
-
There has to be a Sabbath revival of Apostolic gospel, godliness,
-
and adventism. I have sadly met people in my church
-
who think they own the truth of the Sabbath, and
-
they boast about it, but they don't talk about Jesus
-
and his love for me. Think they own the sabventh
-
Day like the Jews did back there at the at
-
the Synagogue of Antiochimasiti. They think they're saved by keeping
-
the law. They're saved by reaching some great standard of
-
perfection at the end, and thus they've aligned with Roman
-
Catholic theology and their ignorance that they've never read the
-
decrees of the Council of Trent. Friends, the Sabbath revival
-
in Acts thirteen didn't bring people to the Law as
-
their savior. It brought them to Jesus as their savior,
-
and thus the Law became this standard that they wanted
-
to keep because of grace and kindness. The Sabbath revival
-
at Antiochhapacity have brought both Jews and Gentiles to Jesus
-
to experience God's grace. I'm grateful for the Sabbath day.
-
I don't know. Have you have a hard week this week? Anybody?
-
Rough week?
-
I went a little over today. Rough week? We came
-
here today to hear God's word, to let the Lord
-
save us and renew us all over again, like he
-
did at the dawn of time, and like he did
-
on the cross. The Sabbath Revival in Acts thirteen forty eight.
-
It shows us how the story all ends, and we'll
-
wrap it up verse forty eight. And when the Gentiles
-
heard this, they were glad. Now, when we hear the
-
gospel and prophecy, what should be our response?
-
Come on, should be.
-
Glad and amen happy, And they glorified the word of God.
-
They didn't say, well, you know too much Bible preaching
-
the word of God. And as many as were being
-
ordained to eternal life believed. You see, when you believe,
-
you are dainned to eternal life. So let's believe. And
-
the word of God spread throughout all the region. But
-
the Jews incited the devout women of high standing, see
-
gossip got it going, and the leading men of the city.
-
Political activity got going, and they started up persecution against
-
Paul and Barnabas, and they drove them out of their district.
-
And so where did they go?
-
They wherever the Lord let them, doing more of the same,
-
sharing Jesus sharing Jesus, and we have a new Testament today.
-
We have a history of their victory that should make
-
a difference in our lives. God, bless you, dear have
-
any Father. I don't know about the rest of everybody
-
here because I can't read minds, but I know there
-
are times in my life when I don't feel good
-
enough at all to be saved. Maybe somebody else has
-
felt that way this week. Maybe it's because they just
-
have a temperament that's self doubting. Maybe it's because they
-
were abused, or maybe it's because some church members are
-
just gossiping about them and trying to wreck them unconverted
-
church members.
-
It could be anything. I don't know.
-
It could be just an evil, cruel world coming at them. Lord,
-
I bow my head as we end this message. I've
-
gone a little long, but I couldn't help it because
-
I'm not ashamed of the Gospel. I wanted to make
-
it clear today that we're not saved, Lord, you know
-
by how good we are, or saved by how good
-
you are. And Lord, I want to raise my hand
-
to you right now and say, Lord, I want to
-
rededicate my life to you as a faulty man in
-
need of grace. I want to continue in the grace
-
of God and dear Lord. If there's anyone else here
-
with my eyes bowed and they closed, my head bowed,
-
but they just raise their hands and say me too.
-
That's me, me too, Lord and Father. I thank you
-
that as.
-
My hands reached to heaven, you've reached down through the
-
Holy Spirit, the hand of God to hold me and
-
to hold us. You take that dear person who knows
-
they need to be baptized here, reach out to me
-
or Elder Mervyn John so they can be baptized, or
-
Elder John Dom. But Lord, for the person needs to
-
be renewed. May they feel it, may they know it?
-
And Father, Before a person is baptized, they're accepted by faith.
-
May they not leave here broken hearted. In Jesus' name, Amen,
