  1. let pray father we pray that you would

  2. pour out your Holy Spirit upon us and

  3. fill us with your presence granting us

  4. wisdom and Revelation to know you better

  5. and to be better known by you as you

  6. conform us into the image of your

  7. beloved Son Jesus in whose name we pray

  8. amen am and please be

  9. seated the Old Testament reading that we

  10. have today from Isaiah

  11. 42: 1-9 is a text that speaks of Jesus

  12. it is a prophetic text of the Messiah

  13. God's servant the one on whom he will

  14. pour out his holy spirit the one on whom

  15. will fil fulfill his Covenant and we

  16. know this because a text from 40 Isaiah

  17. 42 is quoted by Matthew in light of

  18. Jesus's Ministry of healing and

  19. deliverance and preaching the gospel and

  20. Matthew says this fulfills what was

  21. written by Isaiah the prophet and then

  22. he quotes from our Isaiah text today we

  23. also know that Jesus as we hear from the

  24. gospels when he was baptized received

  25. the Holy Spirit again in fulfillment of

  26. Isaiah's prophecy I want to read Isaiah

  27. 42 1-9 again and listen for how Jesus

  28. fulf fills this in some of the words

  29. that the scripture

  30. emphasizes behold my servant whom I

  31. uphold my chosen in whom my soul

  32. Delights I have put my spirit upon Him

  33. He will bring forth Justice to the

  34. Nations he will not cry aloud or lift up

  35. his voice or make it heard in the street

  36. a bruised Reed he will not break and a

  37. faintly burning Wick he will not quench

  38. he will Faithfully bring forth Justice

  39. he will not grow faint or be discouraged

  40. till he has established Justice in the

  41. earth and the coastlands wait for his

  42. law thus says God the Lord who created

  43. the heavens and stretched them out who

  44. spread out the Earth and what comes from

  45. it who gives breath to the people on it

  46. and spirit to those who walk on it I am

  47. the Lord I have called you in

  48. righteousness I will take you by the

  49. hand and keep you I will give you as a c

  50. for the people a light for the for the

  51. Nations to open the eyes that are blind

  52. and to bring out the prisoners from the

  53. dungeon from the prison those who sit in

  54. darkness I am the Lord that is my name

  55. my glory I give to no other nor my

  56. praise to carved Idols behold the former

  57. things have come to pass and new things

  58. I now declare before they spring forth I

  59. tell you of

  60. them Jesus fulfills that and you hear an

  61. emphasis three times on Justice this is

  62. something that Jesus has fulfilled and

  63. is fulfilling and will fulfill

  64. ultimately establishing God's justice in

  65. the world God's justice is not like

  66. worldly or human Justice we may try to

  67. get it right but it's always a bit

  68. biased a bit off but God's justice is

  69. the establishment of his divine order of

  70. his Sovereign will that is good and

  71. loving and

  72. merciful that is Equitable it is justice

  73. that is just and

  74. truthful and Jesus fulfills this and is

  75. fulfilling it and will ultimately

  76. fulfill God's justice over all things

  77. there's two elements that stand out from

  78. Isaiah's

  79. reading there is the gentleness that

  80. Jesus

  81. fulfills in bringing freedom and

  82. bringing healing and bringing

  83. light it says a bruised Reed he will not

  84. break and we all living in the Low

  85. Country we know of the marsh Reed how

  86. fragile it is Jesus wouldn't even break

  87. one that is bent or he won't snuff out

  88. of a wick that is bar barely flickering

  89. like these candles sometimes we have a

  90. hard time keeping them lit Jesus

  91. wouldn't snuff one out that's how gentle

  92. he is bringing God's justice

  93. God has made him a covenant for us in

  94. establishing

  95. Justice on the

  96. cross Jesus fulfilled the justice that

  97. was required for

  98. sin Paul teaches us in Romans that we've

  99. all sinned we've all fallen short of

  100. God's glory we've all fallen short of

  101. his perfect law of his Holiness and Paul

  102. tells us that the wages for those sin

  103. sins of ours is death

  104. Eternal death a separation from God

  105. exiled from him from all that is good in

  106. life into eternal

  107. torment that would be Justice for us to

  108. pay for our sins but Jesus Paid that

  109. Justice and fulfilled the requirements

  110. of the law on the cross so that he who

  111. is just becomes our

  112. justifier he paid the penalty for our

  113. sin so that we Justice can receive the

  114. Forgiveness of

  115. sins that's the first expression of

  116. justice that Jesus has fulfilled by

  117. becoming a sacrifice for sin on behalf

  118. of

  119. Sinners he fulfilled God's requirement

  120. for justice on the cross and he received

  121. victory over sin in the

  122. resurrection and this is confirmed when

  123. he ascended into heaven and poured out

  124. the Holy Spirit of upon his followers

  125. confirming that their sins were forgiven

  126. that they were acceptable by God and

  127. they were restored to peace and

  128. fellowship with the Lord through the

  129. Holy

  130. Spirit the gentleness of Jesus gives

  131. salvation to all who come to

  132. him to all who invite him into their

  133. lives it is a Salvation based on justice

  134. that is fulfilled in Mercy and Grace by

  135. God even every Sunday and we'll say in a

  136. little while the comfortable words of

  137. scripture Matthew 11:28 where Jesus says

    Matthew 11:28

  138. come to me all who labor and are heavy

  139. laden and I will give you rest take my

  140. yoke upon you learn from me for I'm

  141. gentle and lowly in heart and you will

  142. find rest for your souls for my yoke is

  143. easy and my burden is light because he

  144. fulfilled the requirements for justice

  145. on the cross now he can call us to

  146. himself forgiving our sins cleansing us

  147. from all unrighteousness and giving us

  148. peace with God through

  149. himself think about Jesus as we

  150. mentioned earlier he calls little

  151. children to himself and these little

  152. children didn't come to them him on

  153. their own they were carried by their

  154. parents by their mothers or fathers

  155. bringing them to Jesus that he may hold

  156. them and bless them and you know parents

  157. and grandparents you will not hand over

  158. your infants your toddlers to someone

  159. you don't trust someone who is not not

  160. gentle and kind and good and

  161. loving but they brought to the the

  162. children to Jesus that he might bless

  163. them that he might hold them which he

  164. does there's a prayer that we pray each

  165. morning uh in morning prayer it's one of

  166. the optional prayers for Mission and

  167. it's a prayer that expresses Jesus's

  168. gentleness and kindness to all who come

  169. this is the prayer taken from the book

  170. of common prayer morning prayer service

  171. Lord Jesus Christ you stretched out your

  172. arms of Love on the hard wood of the

  173. cross that everyone might come within

  174. the reach of your saving Embrace so

  175. clothe us in your spirit that we

  176. reaching forth our hands in love may

  177. bring those who do not know you to the

  178. knowledge and love of you for the honor

  179. of your name amen Jesus stretched out

  180. his arms of Love on the hardwood of the

  181. Cross where Justice was fulfilled

  182. through the nails that nailed him there

  183. but now being alive and overcoming death

  184. being Lord of all he extends his hands

  185. to embrace all who will come to him to

  186. give salvation freely as a gift think

  187. about some of the people that Jesus

  188. saved in the

  189. scriptures zakus the tax collector and

  190. sinner Jesus saw him in a tree and said

  191. come down zakus I must stay at your

  192. house today and then once there he said

  193. to all salvation has come to this house

  194. because this man too is a child of

  195. Abraham he became a child of God or to

  196. the thief or the Terrorist on the cross

  197. next to Jesus whichever he

  198. was Jesus looked at him and said very

  199. truly I tell you the truth today you'll

  200. be with me in Paradise our Saul of

  201. Tarsus in the book of Acts a man who was

  202. going around dragging families of

  203. Christians away throwing them in prison

  204. approving of their death their

  205. murder Jesus appeared to him and when he

  206. appeared he said Saul Saul why are you

  207. persecuting me and Saul responded who

  208. are you Lord and Jesus said I am Jesus

  209. whom you are

  210. persecuting and Jesus brought him from

  211. Darkness to light this man who was an

  212. awful and cruel man no one is outside

  213. the scope of Jesus's loving and

  214. kindness expressed in his salvation in

  215. his fulfillment of Justice on our behalf

  216. PA he became sin for us that we might

  217. become the righteousness of God no

  218. longer condemned for sin but freely

  219. given the righteousness of Christ that

  220. we might live with God Forever Without

  221. Fear John tells us in his first chapter

  222. of his gospel in verses 12 and 13 to all

  223. who believe in Jesus to all who receive

  224. him he gives the right to become

  225. children of God to all you think of the

  226. most cruel malevolent person that you

  227. can imagine you think of the most lost

  228. souls the most Lawless

  229. people Jesus's salvation reaches to them

  230. and we see in scripture men like that

  231. women like that being

  232. saved and transformed through God's

  233. grace and through the Holy

  234. Spirit there's another side to this

  235. Justice that Jesus

  236. fulfills Jesus Took upon himself our

  237. sins but the wages of sin is still death

  238. if a person does not receive the

  239. Salvation the Forgiveness of sins

  240. through Jesus he or she will pay the

  241. just penalty for his or her own

  242. sins the wages of sin is death and

  243. Justice involves true judgment true

  244. punishment for sin

  245. and God's justice will ultimately

  246. destroy all sin it will rid all creation

  247. of evil when God's kingdom come when

  248. comes fully when Jesus

  249. returns when Jesus was speaking to the

  250. religious people that opposed him the

  251. scribes and Pharisees the teachers of

  252. the law he said to them you snakes you

  253. brood of vipers how will you escape

  254. being condemned to

  255. Hell therefore I'm sending you prop

  256. prophets and wise men and teachers

  257. that's from Matthew

  258. 2333 and

  259. 34 if we resist if we reject Jesus how

  260. can we escape being condemned to Hell

  261. there is no other way there is no other

  262. truth there is no other life there is no

  263. other means of Salvation than Jesus and

  264. Justice Demands a just penalty for sin

  265. as was done on the cross but if we

  266. reject and don't receive that we are

  267. left to pay ourselves

  268. we see this in the Book of Revelation in

  269. ch 20: 15 this vision of God's

  270. judgment it says if anyone's name was

  271. not found written in the Book of Life he

  272. or she was thrown into the Lake of

  273. Fire that is God's justice for sin

  274. outside of

  275. Christ and Isaiah is telling us that

  276. Jesus will fully establish that Justice

  277. in creation

  278. we see this when following the

  279. resurrection following the Ascension

  280. following Pentecost Peter full of the

  281. Holy Spirit he is led by God to visit a

  282. house of a man named Cornelius this is

  283. what was read in Acts chapter 10

    Acts 10 chapter mention

  284. Cornelius is a centurion in Rome's army

  285. part of the machine that put Jesus to

  286. death in Jerusalem and Peter is sent

  287. there with the message of the

  288. gospel and I want to read verses

  289. 34-38 or through

  290. 43 when Peter was there and he began to

  291. preach and tell the story of Jesus he

  292. said truly understand that God shows no

  293. partiality but in every nation anyone

  294. who fears him and does what is right is

  295. acceptable to him as for the word that

  296. he sent to Israel preaching good news of

  297. peace through Jesus Christ he is Lord of

  298. all you yourselves know what happened

  299. throughout all Judea beginning From

  300. Galilee after the baptism that John

  301. proclaimed how God anointed Jesus of

  302. Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with

  303. power he went about doing good and

  304. healing all who were oppressed by the

  305. devil for God was with

  306. him this is the the work of Jesus that

  307. is fulfilling God's justice God anointed

  308. him with power and the Holy Spirit and

  309. he went around doing good healing all

  310. oppressed by the devil he is by his own

  311. righteousness freeing people from the

  312. oppression of the devil and Peter goes

  313. on in his ser and he says we Are

  314. Witnesses of all that he did both in the

  315. country of the Jews and in Jerusalem

  316. they put him to death by hanging him on

  317. a tree but God raised him on the third

  318. day and made him to appear not to all

  319. people but to us who had been chosen by

  320. God as Witnesses who ate and drank with

  321. him after he rose from the dead and he

  322. commanded us to preach to the people and

  323. to testify that he is the one appointed

  324. by God to be judge of the living and the

  325. dead to him all the prophets bear

  326. witness that everyone who believes in

  327. Him receives the forgiveness of sin you

  328. see the two parts of his Justice in the

  329. conclusion of sermon of Peter's sermon

  330. Jesus has been appointed to judge the

  331. living and the dead but to all who

  332. receive him who call upon his name he

  333. gives the Forgiveness of sins because as

  334. they received the gift of Salvation

  335. justice has been paid for their sins on

  336. the cross but for those those who don't

  337. receive that salvation they will be

  338. judged on that last day and they will be

  339. found guilty for their own sins and

  340. condemned to Eternal separation of God

  341. as the Bible says in the fires of

  342. hell you know we've all been overwhelmed

  343. I'm sure and so moved by the tragedies

  344. we see in California of those wild fires

  345. burning out of control well I'm sure

  346. none of us had we been in the path of

  347. those fires would stand and let them

  348. consume us we would run and flee how

  349. ever we could or if we saw a friend or

  350. even a stranger in the way of those

  351. fires we would warn them the fire's

  352. coming you need to leave come this way

  353. well how much more the fires of hell

  354. should we avoid and should we warn

  355. others to avoid and we have the way

  356. marked out for us receiving the free

  357. gift of salvation of Jesus and telling

  358. others listen you don't have to pay for

  359. your own sins Jesus has fulfilled God's

  360. justice on the cross and he's received

  361. victory in the resurrection receive

  362. forgiveness of sins through Jesus and

  363. avoid all of these

  364. Flames I encourage you to invite God

  365. into your life to set you free and to

  366. save you but also invite him into your

  367. life and ask him to help you be someone

  368. who warns others who shares this good

  369. news of forgiveness of sins but also who

  370. emphasizes

  371. the reality that Jesus is the judge and

  372. he is bringing

  373. Justice he's already working Justice in

  374. the world and this is that's one portion

  375. of your take-home work I want to give

  376. you one other

  377. portion I want to encourage you for the

  378. next 40 days or so and around 40 days

  379. from this Sunday is Sunday February 23rd

  380. which is our annual meeting so we'll

  381. have one joint meeting and we'll gather

  382. together we'll have a joint service and

  383. then a meeting after that I want to

  384. encourage you by God's

  385. grace between now and then each day to

  386. pray for the children in this world from

  387. conception let's say through teenage

  388. years and pray for God's justice for

  389. children who are abused children who are

  390. exploited children who are enslaved or

  391. trafficked pray for God's justice for

  392. them even now

  393. think about what God does for people he

  394. calls children to himself he loves them

  395. even the abusers of children even those

  396. who traffic them even those who exploit

  397. them the worst of the worst God is able

  398. to teach them the fear of the Lord and

  399. Grant them repentance but you know and I

  400. know there are too many children in this

  401. world who are facing Injustice of no

  402. fault of their own they're being abused

  403. they're being sexually exploited they're

  404. being trafficked they're being left on

  405. the streets to fend for themselves

  406. children in the womb are under threat

  407. from abortion at no fault of their

  408. own God knows each and everyone each and

  409. every child

  410. conceived and older is known by him and

  411. loved by him and Jesus came to bring

  412. Justice for those children and God is

  413. able to send Angels where you and I

  414. can't even imagine exists into great

  415. Darkness so I want to encourage you each

  416. and every day just pray God help

  417. children who are abused God help

  418. children who are being trafficked God

  419. help children who are being used for the

  420. indulgences of others God help children

  421. who have been neglected and cast off who

  422. are in the foster care

  423. system and father intervene against

  424. those who hurt children teach them the

  425. fear of the Lord teach them repentance

  426. but one way or another bring Justice for

  427. these children

  428. pray that because you don't have to know

  429. all the details you don't even have to

  430. know the children but God will answer

  431. our prayers and he will send his angels

  432. He will send his light he'll transform

  433. lives he'll rescue people he'll visit

  434. people children in their

  435. Darkness I heard a quote by Tim TBO who

  436. you know is the famous football player

  437. National Champion Heisman Trophy winner

  438. he since retiring from football started

  439. a foundation which focuses entirely on

  440. saving children from Human

  441. Trafficking he said I don't know if

  442. we'll ever win the war against human

  443. trafficking and child sexual

  444. exploitation in this lifetime but I know

  445. who wins one

  446. day you know he could have said I don't

  447. know if we'll ever achieve Justice for

  448. every child in this world but I know

  449. that one day Justice will be established

  450. for each

  451. child he get he said that this year

  452. alone last year his group rescued 1,00

  453. children from trafficking and sexual

  454. exploitation imagine if we all pray how

  455. many could be rescued how many could

  456. experience Justice and mercy in this

  457. world

  458. so we have opportunities to pray every

  459. day here at 8:00 morning prayer we have

  460. prayer at the Whitfield Center every

  461. Saturday at 8:30 you can pray with us

  462. there but pray on your own just Lord

  463. help these children so let me close and

  464. pray for

  465. us father we thank you that your justice

  466. has been tempered by Mercy and

  467. Grace and father by your grace and in

  468. your mercy and through faith we receive

  469. salvation through Jesus Christ we

  470. receive the Forgiveness of

  471. sins and Lord we pray that you help us

  472. to be Witnesses of your Justice and

  473. mercy and your salvation as Peter was in

  474. the house of Cornelius and father we

  475. pray for children everywhere children

  476. who are under threat children who are

  477. being abused children who are being

  478. exploited trafficked enslaved

  479. neglected tossed from one place to the

  480. other Lord you know each and everyone

  481. and we pray that you send your spirit

  482. and your angels and your light to rescue

  483. them Father we pray for any who are

  484. abused using and using children we pray

  485. that you come against that work teach

  486. them the fear of the Lord grant them

  487. repentance and

  488. transformation if they persist in their

  489. stubbornness God I pray for justice for

  490. the children I pray that you intervene

  491. and stop their

  492. abuse Lord let your kingdom come

  493. throughout the

  494. world and I pray that you inspire and

  495. discipline us to be prayer warriors on

  496. behalf of children who are victims of

  497. Injustice in this

  498. world we ask in Jesus name amen
