John Chapter 13 this morning. If you would please John Chapter

13 is where we're going to be at.

Of course we are moving forward in our series forward this year

and April is the month of moving forward in love.

And certainly, that's not a mistake as we consider the love

that Jesus shed abroad. On the cross, there is precious

blood in the fact that even here today, as we consider the day

where we commemorate his triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Jerusalem and all that followed after that as he approached the

cross. And I think today we can move

forward in Love by looking at Christ's sacrifice and his

never-ending love, and fact that's the title of my message.

This morning, a never-ending love all through April.

We're going to be looking at this concept of what the Bible

means, when it talks about love and love is one of those funny

words, isn't it? Because it's a word that people

use all the time? But yet, it means different

things to different people. And it's one that the

definition, although I don't believe it's confusing to.

God is one that's confusing to man.

For instance, loves comes with different uses.

It's a noun, it's a verb, it can be used in different ways.

Love comes with different intensities, I love my wife and

I love pizza. And we pray that the intensity

of those are different, right? Because I really love people but

anyway, I really know I that my love for pizza.

Cannot parallel. The love that my for my wife.

But yet we use the same word to describe both.

I mean, that's kind of a strange thing when you think about it,

isn't it? Love has different.

Definitions, believe it. Or not, if you were to look in

the Webster's 1828 dictionary and add, all the definitions

together, there are no less than 11 different definitions for the

word, love that we use. Today.

And then you add to all that confusion, you have this modern

and sinful society that we live in.

That keeps telling us a phrase. Like this love is Love.

Love Is Love which by defining the word by the word itself

means that the word has no meaning or value, and hence can

be defined by anyone in any way at any time, no matter what that

phrase. And we have to see that there.

To be a meaning to love. There has to be a definition of

Love. There has to be an example of

love that has to be held up for us by none other than Jesus

Christ. And so, here are Texas morning.

I want to take some time to meditate on the death and

burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

But particularly I want us to focus in on True, Love In

Action. As Jesus is approaching the last

hours before he goes to the cross.

Why would you stand please for the reading?

God's word, God's word. This morning, John 13.

Verse number one and we're literally going to read one

verse this morning. So you're not going to stand for

Long John Chapter 13, beginning of verse number one.

And it says this now before the Feast of the Passover, when

Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out

of the world unto the father, having loved his own, which were

in the world. He loved them until the end.

That's a short verse but there's a lot in that verse and I really

want us to focus in this short period of time that we have on

that second half of the verse having loved his own which were

in the world. He loved them unto the end if

we're to move forward in love in this month of April and really

if we move forward in love, as God has called us to get our

Christian Life. Far beyond just one month out of

the year. Would it behoove us to look at

the love of Jesus Christ? Not just this morning, but on

Tuesday and on Friday and on Sunday and far beyond as we

consider that there is no greater model of love that has

ever walked the face of the Earth then none other than Jesus

Christ. Heavenly Father.

Be with us this morning as we get into your word, help us to

understand just a glimpse of this never-ending love.

And we ask it in Jesus name. Amen.

It in such a short verse. So much is being said as John

Chapter 13 unfolds or rather John, chapter 12 unfolds Palm

Sunday has passed. Jesus is now sharing the last

supper with his disciples in the hours, as he goes to the cross.

In the beginning of that verse, the first half of verse number,

one of John Chapter 13 sets the scene for us of exactly what's

going on. It gives us the time frame of

when this verse takes place. Before the Feast of the

Passover, understanding that he's about to share of what we

would call the last supper with his disciples including who

would see if we continue to read with none other than Judas

himself who's at the table before the supper, the Last

Supper takes place and we see this timeframe that is here, it

also gives us Jesus mindset. When it says Jesus knew that he

knew that this hour was come. Now we And that Jesus knew all

things before the foundation of the world ever took place.

But yet at the same time, could we put it this way?

It's at the front of Jesus mind right now.

I don't Proclaim to understand all of how that works.

But yet here on Jesus mind and heart is the fact that he knows

within hours, he's going to go to the garden and he's going to

pray and great. Drops of blood will fall down

from him as sweat from his brow and he's going to be taken.

And he is going to be beaten and mocked and placed on a cross.

And he knows these things are about to happen.

It says that he knew that his hour was come that the hour for

which he came to this earth, 33 years.

Previous to that point had now come and it also gives us this

first half of the verse Jesus future that it wasn't just that

he was in, go to the Cross but that he should depart out of

this world unto the father telling us that he knew while he

was Going to go to the cross that he would resurrect three

days later and that he would sit at the right hand of God the

Father which is by the way, where he's seated today, waiting

for the moment. When the father tells him go and

get my children and bring them hither back to me and that day

is coming, but Jesus knew exactly where he's going on

again. He was not conned into the

cross. He was not cornered into the

cross. Jesus came into the situation

fully aware knowing what was about to happen.

And I think it's important for us to take a moment to dwell on

that because it makes the second half much more powerful knowing

that Jesus would have had all of this on his mind but yet still

had this great love in his heart.

Listen. If you're a man especially we

can only concentrate on one thing at a time.

No, listen to my wife wants to talk to me.

It has to be after the half ending of the Red Sox game

because during something important might happen, all

right? I don't know, and I'm saying

this in front of you because I'm much braver in front of you,

with all of you around me than I am.

If it's just us alone. No, I know.

Seriously though, even just this morning and, you know, our

daughters, hear Bethenny's here and I'm thinking about the

sermon, but my thoughts are going all over the place just

because Typically many of us not just men women, we like to focus

on one thing at a time. We can't just happens that women

do it. Better focusing on multiple

things at a time. But Jesus here is in a situation

where he knows he's about to go to the Cross.

He's about to go through something that no one has ever

gone through that. No one will ever go through and

that we can't even comprehend even though we have the volume

of 66 books. In front of us, we can't

comprehend all that he went through during those at even

just the hours that he was there.

Praying in the garden. We can't understand.

Great anguish that he was going through when he said, let this

cup pass from me, but not my will, but thy will be done.

I can't even imagine that, but against this backdrop was so

much pain and Agony ahead. We're given the small piece of

information in the second half of John 13, and it's small and

Powerful, like dynamite having loved each of his own, which

were in the world. He loved them unto the end.

Having loved his own which were in the world.

He loved them unto the end. Jesus loved was evident all

throughout his ministry but maybe never more than in his

final days. Think of all those who he

lavished his love upon in those final days before he went to the

Cross. He loved the crowds on Palm

Sunday, despite the fact that many of them would have shouted

Hosanna, which literally means save us now, one day, but some

of the same ones would have been crying out, crucify him just a

few days later. No, Jesus, still love them.

Knowing when he wrote In, as we just heard brother, Vince read

this morning that as he wrote in and they were extolling his

virtues. He knew that many of them would

turn their backs on him and he loved them.

Anyway, unto the end, he loved the Pharisees that he would

verbally spar with on those days following there, in the temple

who publicly would denounce him and privately plotted against

him. He loved them to the end, he

loved the money changers. You remember that he cleansed

the temple one final time before he went to the cross and he Love

those money changers, even though they had made his

father's house, a house of merchandise and even though he

had took that cord and even though he ushered them out of

the temple, he still had great love for those moneychangers.

Even though they were doing him wrong, he loved the members of

the Sanhedrin, even though they plan to entrap him into a

kangaroo court and accused him with false Witnesses, each of

those, he loved unto the end, But it wasn't just those things

that had been passed and prior to John 13:1, I would submit to

John 13:1

you. That what is said, in John 13:1

is also ringing true to everything that happened after

that moment as well. He loved the soldiers who had

mercilessly beat him. Mock him and curse him. he loves

pilot despite the fact that he condemned an innocent man that

he looked at him and he said, what is truth when he was

looking at true When he said, I wash my hands of this man's

blood. When there's not enough

antibiotic antiseptic water in this world that could wash his

hands from the blood of Christ. But he loved them to the end.

He loved Herod Antipas, remember that he got sent to Herod in the

middle of examination of pilot. And sometimes I think we forget

that it's that same Herod. Remember, there were many

different herod's herod's was a name of a ruler that would have

been Regional at that time there in Israel but it was that same

Herod who I believe, beheaded his cousin, John the Baptist and

he would have stood before that same Herod who is making mockery

of him and that day was true. The Bible says that the enemy of

my enemy was My friend that Herod and pilate didn't really

get along, but they had a common enemy who ended up being Jesus.

And so they became friends during all that.

And despite all that Jesus loved Herod unto the end, He loved the

crowds though. They be rated him and blasphemed

him and challenged him and said, if you be who you say you are

get yourself off of this cross. And we know not only could he

have done so but he could have wiped the map with the whole lot

of them. But yet he didn't as the old

song, says, he died alone for you and me.

He loved the crowds to the end. Can I remind you that he looked

at Judas a few hours from now and in Matthew 26:52 called him

Matthew 26:52

friend. I've read some commentaries that

say that heme said that out of sarcasm or he said that in some

other fashion, but no, Jesus would have said that in sorrow,

but in truth, Knowing that he had invested in Judas for three

years knowing still what he was going to do.

No no he knew what Judas was going to do.

The Son of Perdition yet he loved him until the end.

I mean, this is astounding. What a model for us to have in.

Love the bottle of Jesus Christ, we think we've been hurt.

Compared to Jesus, we think we've gone through difficulties.

Compared to Jesus. We think people have done us

wrong. Compared to Christ and I'm not

minimizing those things that have happened to you in your

life. I'm not saying that they aren't

real because Jesus had more happened to him.

That's not what I'm saying this morning.

What I'm saying is, if Jesus could love those to the end,

even those who had done him so wrong, when he had never done

anything wrong in his life, in his 33 years and and has never

done anything wrong in his existence which was before time

and in time and will be after time.

Eternal nature of God has never done wrong if he can love to the

end, who are we We so there's two things I want to point out

to you very briefly here this morning.

And the first is this, we must remember the Christ loves unto.

The end Christ loves unto the end and I don't know about you,

but if this was me And I was going through those things that

Jesus was going through. And I had any one of these

events or occurrences that I just read to you happened to me.

At some point, I would have looked at Jesus and I would have

said something like this or I would have looked at those

people and responded differently than Jesus.

I would have said this forget, all of you.

If you don't see what I'm trying to do for you forget it.

No, if it was me, I would have used the pilot defense.

I would have washed my hands and said, I wash my hands of all of

you because I have done nothing wrong and look what you've done

to me, but yet that's not our Jesus.

We need to remember this morning, did, although he very

well could have done that and would have been within His right

to be able to do that because of our unrighteousness.

But yet that's not what he did. He loved and loves until the

end. You say, well, well, you're

saying that about some of these people.

But how do you know that about about everybody?

Well, because of Romans, 5 6 through 8, where it says for

when we were yet without Strength In Due Time Christ died

for the ungodly. Do you know who the ungodly is?

That's us. We were the ungodly before.

We got saved Christ died for the ungodly.

Meaning this he came into this eyes wide open.

He knew what you would do. He knew what I would do?

He knew what they would do before history, even started

being written. And yet this was always the plan

for scarcely for a righteous man will one died yet peradventure

for a good man, some would even dare to die, but God commendeth

God, reveals God shows his love toward us.

Us in that while we were yet. Sinners Christ died for us.

That's love. That's a love.

Unlike any other love, you can find anywhere.

This is the kind of love that loves to the end.

So it reminds me this morning to just ask this question, do you

know Jesus Christ in Salvation today?

Because the next verse in Romans 5, says this Romans 5:9 much

Romans 5:9

more. Then being now justified by his

blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

How do we know that we're saved, even though we were that?

Lost Sinner, they had done, wickedly and unrighteously and

that Jesus loved us enough and loved us to the end to save us.

Well how do we do it? It's through the blood.

Can I help you with something today?

It's not through what happens here.

This is not what will save you here this morning?

The Bible never says that someone is to get baptized to

bring the vessel of Grace upon them and salvation.

That's not what the Bible says. The Bible makes it clear that

the baptismal Waters were always for those who responded to the

gospel message. That's why the Ethiopian eunuch

said, what doth hinder me to be baptized.

And our King James Bible says which modern versions take out.

It says this it says, if thou believest with all thine heart,

thou Thou mayest and they got out and they went into the water

and they went into the water because Romans 6 tells us that

what happens here in this water is not a, it's not a vessel of

Grace, but as a picture of the grace that have been bestowed

upon us by what the love of Jesus Christ.

We who straightway in the water and then he went down in the

water buried in the likeness of his death and raised in the

likeness of his resurrection. Once again, why it's a picture

of what Jesus did the death burial Resurrection this A

picture of the love of Christ. What we do here today with

Peyton with with our brother Jamie?

What we do here is to picture, not just the death burial

Resurrection but it's to remind us of the great love of Jesus

Christ. If you were to fill this pool

that this horse trough let's just be honest, what it is.

Who know some people get their supplies from, you know, like

the Heritage house and we go to Tractor Supply, you know, that's

just what. That's just who we are, you

know, but here's what I know if you were to fill this with the

the love of God, that it would overflow so much that the old

hymn says that if that if the the sky was parchment and every

man, a scribe by trade and the, the oceans were ink that you

could never write of the love of God.

But yet this pictures, what it is here.

For us today and he loved us until the end.

And if you don't know, Jesus Christ as your savior today,

don't do this to get saved, no repent and call upon Christ to

save you, and then get baptized to confirm what God's already

done in your heart. And all of that's well and good.

And everything that I've said here so far is true, which is

probably a relief seeing as I preach for the last 20 minutes

you probably relieved that I believe that what I said is

true, but I will say that it's a little bit of a departure from

the text. Because the text is very

specific. It's not that God doesn't love

all until the end because he does But it doesn't say in John

John 13:1

13 Verse 1 that he loved old to the end.

Again, that's a true saying that doesn't take that away.

But part of preaching biblically is making sure that we don't

just preach what we thinks in the text who actually preach the

text. So, look what it says in John 13

verse number 1. It says now before the Feast of

the Passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come, that he

should depart out of this world on to the father, having loved.

What's the next two words? His own Which were in the world.

He loved. What's that next?

Word them unto the end. Did he love all to the end?

He did put in those final moments?

What is the message that the holy spirit is trying to convey

to us through this text that? It wasn't just that he loved all

of mankind to the end which he did.

And we'll get to look into that next week and there's I mean,

there's so many verses, I mean, it was like trying to put this

together was trying to go up to a buffet and trying to figure

what verse is do. I use because there's so many,

the speak of the love of God in our life and how we relate to

that. I don't even know where to

begin. But it says he loved his own.

and he loved them, his own until the end, which means this

There's an application for those who are believers here today.

That should be a help. And why is this so important?

Well, here's why it's important in a few verses.

Those ones that he loved at the table to the end that he

specifically speaking of are about to flee. 11 out of 11 or

gone, the closest is John who followed farther away and who

was there at the cross. He was there close enough that

Jesus could convey final instructions to John in

reference to his mother Mary. So we want to maybe, say a

ten-and-a-half at best, but John followed far away 10 of or nine

of them. We don't know what happened to

them. We don't see them until Sunday.

And then there was Peter who we know what happened.

And Peter was worse in the sense that it wasn't just what he did.

That he cursed the fact that he did not know.

Jesus Christ, he cursed and vowed that he did not know.

Jesus Christ in me better way to put that but it was just a few

hours before where he said I will never do that.

I'll never do it. And in the light of that.

We are reminded in John 13:1 in the light of the failure of his

disciples. You know, in the light of the

failure of his disciples, we are reminded from John 13:1 that he

John 13:1

still loved us to the end. So, who us?

Well, you're there too and I am if we belong to him.

Cic encouragement for the believer today.

When I look at this thought that moving forward in love reminds

us that even when we fail Jesus he loves us.

Doesn't he loves us when we don't obey him?

John 15:10 says, if you love, if you keep my Commandments, you

John 15:10

shall abide in my love. Even as I have, kept my father's

Commandments and abide in his love.

Jesus says, I abide my father's Commandments and so I abide in

his love. He says, if you want to show

your love for me abide in my Commandments, Jesus, as I do, my

father, we don't do that very well.

Who are you talking to exactly who I'm looking to?

I know who you are and I know who I am.

And I would I say to you, I say with boldness, but also with the

humility of knowing that I'm in the same boat that you are

having to deal with the same rotten flesh every day.

And yet instead of confirming my love to him through obedience to

him. What I end up doing is straying

from him over and over and over again.

That's why in John 14 of chapter before he said he even more

succinctly. If you love me, keep my

Commandments. But yet, despite the fact that I

do not confirm, my love to him, as I should so often, he loves

me to the end, they don't know. Encourage somebody that all hit

me. Make a Baptists.

Amen. I mean it didn't, but it ought

to sure. When we're not faithful to him.

The things he wants us to do. Ministry that we should do.

You want to talk about Ministry in church?

I'm just talk about ministering to other people at the job site

in your family. The people that you run across,

you need to give attractive. We're not faithful to the Holy

Spirit, Will prompt you say, you know, you should give that track

to someone and we've got a hundred reasons, why not?

But he still loves us, and loves us to the end. when we worry

more about our own Comfort than his glory and his plan, I think

that so often defines us, You know why the disciples ran, they

were more concerned about their safety.

Then the savior, That's why they ran.

They were fearful for their lives.

If you're not sure go fast forward to Sunday, they've

barred the door, making sure that no one would get in.

And despite the fact that they coveted their own safety more

than they did, the security of their savior just as we often do

with our own Comfort. Compared to his glory, his plan,

he still love them and loves us till the end.

So, have you failed? Or fallen or fallen short of

what God has planned for your life.

Understand that, if that's the case, he'll still love you to

the end. Now I will say this, he loves

you far too much to have you stay that way, which is why he

brings loving correction into our lives.

What Hebrews chapter 12 makes it clear.

If you are one of his own, he will correct you as a father to

the children. It's great to watch.

Peyton get baptized today. It's been a blessing to baptize

now all three of my girls and I was just talking with I think

was Kaylee yesterday, the irony of baptizing, a daughter, my

sister. In the name of the father and

the son of the Holy Ghost, it's a beautiful thing to baptize my

daughter. My sister.

That's a great thing. I love that.

You know, some of you might be surprised about this and I feel

uncomfortable talking about it while our teachers here.

But some of you might be surprised that Peyton, sometimes

acts up In my notes it just says here and Jamie Christopher gives

a testimony know I just get know that does it.

That's not Everyday. I'll ask her when she gets in

the car. Did you get a check?

She goes. No, but I do know who did not

want to hear about who did? Do not do not throw them out as

the sacrifice to try to save yourself for the next time you

get a check, I don't want to hear it.

Yeah. That he the tire tracks firmly

on the back of their backs, but there are times we have to

correct her I could give you examples.

You say, well Pastor, don't you love her.

Of course I do, why? Correct?

Why corrector? Well, pastor of God loves me so

much, then then it, he's just never gonna bring correction my

life. You know, he's gonna love you so

much. He is going to lovingly.

Correct. You at times to try to bring

bring you back at. How much do you love Israel?

Israel, the apples. I what do you do?

He kept giving them warnings and profits over and over and over

but yet they wouldn't listen. And what would happen, he'd

bring correction to be able to show them his loving nature and

to draw them back in the fold. So understand this Christ loves

into the end, but that doesn't mean he's going to leave you

alone. If you're a child of God, When

you're in sin, in fact, quite the opposite.

He's gonna do it. Because like a father saying,

well, you know, Peyton go ahead and touch the hot stove.

Who cares? You'll learn your lesson?

No, I'm going to stop her from doing that and I'm going to

teach you the lesson because I don't want her to get hurt.

God is going to bring some things into our lives.

To try to help us is because he loves us till the end and you

better. Be sure that if you have failed

him, he loves you. He cares for you.

He doesn't he desires nothing more than for you.

To come forward to this all to this morning with repentance and

to get your life, right? With him, but if you don't, he's

also going to show you that love by bringing some correction into

your life. Because he loves you to the end.

If you're a child of his, the number one, I see this Christ

loves into the end. But number two, TV, one more

application. Remember this?

We should love Christ. And to the end.

Christ loves us into the end. That's never been questioned.

That could never honestly be questioned throughout human

history with a Christ has loved Humanity.

What is questioned in my life every day is this?

Do I love him to the him? Do I love him to him?

And as we move forward in love this week, and this month.

We ask ourselves this question, why I love him to the end?

Is my love burning hotter for him.

Or waxing colder. Because it should burn hotter

and more brightly with each passing day.

Matthew 24:12 talks to the last days when it says and because

Matthew 24:12

iniquity shall abound the love of many shall wax cold.

You know when iniquity of bounds in our hearts sin you wanted to

bounds our hearts. You know it does our love for

Christ gets cold. So what happens Knowing the

Bible. Our Salvation is often compared

to marriage many times. There are many comparisons of it

in the Bible. You know, many marriages start

and infatuation. And in and of itself that's not

wrong because of the nature of what love and physical

attraction. All those things are but you

know it's found out over the years that true deep meaningful

love. Goes far beyond just those few

early days. and as you drive, The pile deeper into the

Bedrock. You find this that when that

initial infatuation is not exactly the same as it was and

I'm not saying that you should ever lose that completely, you

really should have that in a marriage.

But boy there should be something deeper.

How can two people in their aged years?

That physically have very little to offer each other.

But yet, look at each other with a deeper love than they had when

they were at the marriage altar. Well, that's a true deep love.

And, you know, I found is often true for believers, there's an

infatuation that takes place, sometimes in the first few days,

weeks, months and years when they get saved.

You say Pastor that's not true. Jesus gave a parable about the

soils and he said there's going to be a type of person that

reacts in that manner they sprout up only to church all the

time. I'm going to be in future Pastor

all open the doors for you. I'm going to be what could I do?

Where could I go? What can I do?

What can I give? They're doing everything in

month and month a year later. You never see him again.

Or there's some that hang around church for years.

But their heart is just the same as the one who left after a

year. And Jesus is Love Will Last to

the end, but our love for Jesus. Wayne's overtime.

When we baptized, we often use the ring as an example because

that's what baptism is. It's a symbol.

This ring. I'm not no longer married

because I took it off. It's a symbol of what took place

was 20 years ago by the way. Yeah, dude.

Whoa, what was that? No, I'm not sure how I feel

about them. It's a was it we were at a

preacher's meeting a few weeks ago and I did.

They said, you know, tell how long you're in the ministry, I

stood up and said I'm Rivero and 17 or 18 years in full-time

Ministry to goes. I didn't realize you were that

old said the same to you buddy. All right, so let's strike that

from the record. All right, but let me get to it.

Let me get to the point. Aunt, I'm veering from the

point. I'm grounded.

Third and coming home. And I'm about to trip on the

Baseline. Here, here's what I know.

Is that this symbol? At a wedding is often called the

symbol of marriage. I don't know how many pastors

I've heard that it said this in the wedding's they've done and

say, well is a symbol of marriage because it's a

never-ending love. Here's the problem.

It's not always. The statistics L is 50 percent

of marriages end in divorce and it's not much different even

within the realm of Christianity.

And so what I'm saying, is it because we're frail human

beings, it's not always the case.

This symbol. You know that this should be the

symbol of our love with Christ. You want to you want a real

symbol of everlasting love? He will love us to the end.

By the way, I'm not trying to take away from the text or add

to the text. But what it says he loved them

to the end it, I believe that it means that he was going to

fulfill his love to them through his Earthly Ministry.

That's what it's speaking of a net context, but we not also

agree that he not only loves us to our end, but beyond our end

here in this life and into the next So, why wouldn't I want to

have a love that grows stronger? over the years of my savior,

some of some of you, it's getting a little cold, And just

like in a marriage where things get cold.

And difficult. And awkward.

How much more so with our savior?

When between two people. There can be fault on both

sides. Let's be honest, even if it's

great fault on one side and really not much on the other,

I'm just saying that there can be But here's what I know when

it comes to my relationship with Christ.

It's never his fault. It's never been his fault.

People disappoint, you. People will hurt you.

But Jesus loves to the end. Let's use that love towards

others, to the end but let's make sure we're loving him to

the end. And that every day my

relationship and love for him is stronger, not weaker than the

day before. Thank you for listening to the
