  1. As Mr. Sidney has already pointed out this morning,

  2. we're going to go over 14 scriptures, Lord willing,

  3. but it's not going to be as bad as you think.

  4. We are not going to do an in -depth study of

  5. all 14, unless you all want to, and we can spend

  6. a little time and break each one down and look

  7. at the Greek and we can see what it says, but

  8. we won't do that this morning. So we'll try to

  9. get through these pretty quickly. That's one

  10. reason I put all of these scriptures in the bulletin.

  11. It's because we are going to go through them

  12. pretty quickly. And you may not have time to

  13. turn to all of them, but I want you to know where

  14. they are. Because maybe there will be some of

  15. these scriptures that we look at today that may

  16. be a good scripture for you to think about. It

  17. may be something that hits close to home. It

  18. may be something that shakes you up a little

  19. bit. So we're going to pray, and then we'll work

  20. our way through some of these things. God, I

  21. come to you today. I thank you for all these

  22. people that are here. I thank you that you let

  23. us be part of this church and this fellowship.

  24. I thank you for being good to us, for providing

  25. for us, for loving us, dear Lord. And I pray,

  26. God, that you just would pour your spirit out

  27. on us today, that we come into this place with

  28. a lot on our mind of things that we have done

  29. or need to do or want to do. A lot of things,

  30. God, that are constantly competing for our attention.

  31. But I pray, God, that in these few minutes that

  32. your Holy Spirit would speak to us, that you

  33. meet us where we are, dear Lord. Maybe there

  34. are some today that are just struggling. There

  35. are some that are seeking. There are some that

  36. just aren't really sure what's going on in life

  37. or what to make of it, dear Lord, trying to find

  38. their way, dear Lord. This is us. This is who

  39. we are as humans. We struggle. And so, God, I

  40. pray that today that you just bring us comfort

  41. and guidance and encouragement, that you would

  42. help us to draw closer to you and that you would

  43. help us to seek Jesus Christ. God, I pray that

  44. you'd be with me, that you'd help me to preach

  45. and teach in a way that brings glory and honor

  46. to you. Take away any fear or pride that's within

  47. me, and let us all seek you in these next few

  48. minutes. And I ask these things in Jesus' name.

  49. Amen. It is a new year. There's something about

  50. turning that calendar page. It's really January

  51. 1st is no different than the last day of December.

  52. But there's something about flipping a page in

  53. a calendar. There's something about going from

  54. a 25 to a 26 that makes us stop for a minute

  55. and think. I want to do some things better. I

  56. want to change some things. And we start out

  57. and we say, I'm going to eat healthier, I'm going

  58. to exercise more, I'm going to read my Bible

  59. more, I'm going to come to church more, or whatever

  60. it is. We have all of these things, and there's

  61. something in our mind that triggers us to say,

  62. there's some areas that I want to do better.

  63. And that's a good thing for us. That's a good

  64. thing for us to recognize those things physically

  65. and spiritually. It's a good time at the start

  66. of a new year for us to examine ourselves. Now,

  67. I'm going to put a picture up on the screen,

  68. and I want you all to tell me, does anybody know

  69. what that is? That's a check engine light. Some

  70. of y 'all are thinking, that's money. That's

  71. what that is. Because that pops up, right? Every

  72. once in a while on your car, you crank it up,

  73. it's been running fine, and all of a sudden,

  74. the check engine light comes on. Service engine

  75. soon. Okay, well, praise the Lord nowadays. Well,

  76. maybe not, praise the Lord. I don't know if it's

  77. better or not. Everything is electronic. And

  78. so back in the day, cars were real simple. They

  79. had to have a spark, some gas, and some air.

  80. And as long as you got that, it was going to

  81. run. And if you didn't have that, you didn't

  82. have much to look at to find a problem. But nowadays,

  83. you've got computers, and you've got sensors,

  84. and you've got all this stuff. But thankfully,

  85. when that pops up on your car or truck, You can

  86. go down to the mechanic shop. You don't even

  87. have to now. You can plug a thing in yourself

  88. and see on your smartphone. But you go down to

  89. the mechanic shop, and they plug something in

  90. under your dash. They plug in a little computer,

  91. and it does a diagnostic test. So it runs, and

  92. it checks all the stuff on your car to see if

  93. it can diagnose what the problem is. Now, sometimes

  94. we know that there's something going on, right?

  95. we feel a vibration or there's a weird smell

  96. or a weird sound. And boy, that's something.

  97. You go to the mechanic trying to explain the

  98. sound and you're like, well, this is squeaking.

  99. And he's like, well, does it sound more like

  100. a cat slimed down a tin roof or like a train

  101. slamming on brakes? And you're trying to figure

  102. out how to describe it to him because your car

  103. will never do what it's doing when you get it

  104. to the mechanic. But we go and they do a diagnostic.

  105. They have to diagnose what the problem is. And

  106. sometimes we have an idea that there is a problem.

  107. We can hear it, we can smell it, we can feel

  108. it. And other times we don't even know that there's

  109. a problem. Sometimes we go in the shop and we

  110. don't even know that there's something going

  111. on and they run that diagnostic test and they

  112. say, hey, you need a new O2 sensor or something,

  113. whatever it may be. And so sometimes in life

  114. when it comes to our vehicles, we have to have

  115. a diagnosis to see what is going on. Well, our

  116. spiritual life is really no different. Because

  117. sometimes there are things in our life that we

  118. know just aren't quite right. They just, they

  119. don't, it don't feel right. There are things

  120. in our life, it just, it doesn't feel right.

  121. It just, we're just not running good, spiritually

  122. speaking. We just, there's something within us

  123. and we... and we feel tension or we feel sorrow

  124. or we feel burden or we feel stress or whatever

  125. it is there, sometimes we feel and we just know

  126. that there's something that's not right. Other

  127. times there are things in our life that aren't

  128. right, and we don't even realize that those things

  129. are there or maybe that we need to change in

  130. those ways. Now, when it comes to our car, when

  131. you start getting those symptoms that something's

  132. going on, you better check it out because it

  133. could. It could be more serious than you think.

  134. And so we have a couple of options when we realize

  135. that our check engine light is on. We can take

  136. our car to the shop because we know something's

  137. going on, and we can get it fixed, or we can

  138. just put a piece of black tape over it. Some

  139. of you have done that before. I'm tired of seeing

  140. the check engine light. How do I make it go off?

  141. Well, you get your little piece of black tape

  142. about one inch by one inch, and you stick it

  143. over it. And you can cover up the check engine

  144. light, but there's still a problem there. And

  145. when you know there's a problem there, you don't

  146. want to cover it up. You need to deal with it

  147. and fix it, or it could lead to a disaster. And

  148. so spiritually speaking, the same is true. Sometimes

  149. there are some things in our hearts, some things

  150. in our souls, some things in our life that aren't

  151. good, that we need to get checked out. And sometimes

  152. we know that those things are in our heart and

  153. in our life. And we just pretend like they're

  154. not there. And that's not good for us. That's

  155. not healthy for us. And so we've got to get it

  156. fixed. We need a diagnostic test run on our heart

  157. to see what's going on in there and what's wrong

  158. and what the problems are and what's needed to

  159. fix it. And maybe, just maybe, it's going to

  160. reveal some things that we didn't even know were

  161. there that need to be addressed. And our diagnostic

  162. test for us to check our heart is the Word of

  163. God. It's our Bible. Now, I want to ask you,

  164. when's the last time that you read your Bible?

  165. You may read it every day. Praise the Lord. You

  166. may read a chapter a day. You may read three

  167. chapters a day. You might read a verse a day.

  168. You might have hadn't picked up your Bible in

  169. a month. You say, well, I come to church. Well,

  170. praise the Lord. That's good. We as individuals,

  171. we need to spend some time in God's word because

  172. that's what we're going to use to check ourselves.

  173. That's the way God's going to speak to us. We're

  174. going to read these words of God and they're

  175. going to begin to reveal things that maybe we

  176. didn't even know were there in our life. It's

  177. going to begin to convict us and kind of show

  178. us, wait a minute, you don't need to be living

  179. this way. You need to change this. And so just

  180. as our cars need to be plugged into that computer,

  181. well, we as Christians need to be plugged into

  182. the Word of God. And what's it going to reveal

  183. to us? Well, it may reveal more than you realize,

  184. more than you know. It may provide the solution

  185. to your problem that you didn't even know existed,

  186. but it's right in the Word of God. We're going

  187. to go through some scriptures real quickly. You

  188. can jot them down. If you want to try to turn,

  189. you can. But I'm going to go through them quickly

  190. just to give you an idea of what I'm talking

  191. about. When I'm talking about the Word of God

  192. is good for us to help repair our problems and

  193. show us our deficiencies and help us perform

  194. up to our full standard that God wants us to.

  195. That's why the Word of God is so important. Here's

  196. something that the Word of God talks about. If

  197. we plug into the Word of God, you may come across

  198. the topic of... Worry. Does anybody in here worry?

  199. You don't have to raise your hand. I know you

  200. do. Every single one of you in here worry. I

  201. suspect that that's probably one of the biggest

  202. things that everybody in the world deals with.

  203. It's probably very few people that don't struggle

  204. with worry. And you might be sitting there saying,

  205. but you don't even understand what I got to worry

  206. about. And some of you, while I've been talking

  207. the last five minutes, are worrying. Some of

  208. you are worrying, I'm going to go through all

  209. these scriptures, it's going to take three hours.

  210. Some of you are worrying about how you're going

  211. to pay your bills. You've got a bill due tomorrow.

  212. You've got your check engine light in your car.

  213. You're worried about how you're going to pay

  214. for that. You're worried about your kids. You're

  215. worried about somebody that's sick. You're worried

  216. about a neighbor. You're worried about a friend.

  217. You're worried about church. You're worried about

  218. something. Well, we plug into the Word of God.

  219. What does it tell us? In Matthew chapter 6, verses

    Matthew 6:25

  220. 25 and 26, it says, this is Jesus speaking, by

  221. the way, This is why I tell you, don't worry

  222. about your life, what you will eat or what you

  223. will drink, or about your body, what you will

  224. wear. Isn't life more than food and the body

  225. more than clothing? Look at the birds of the

  226. sky. They don't sow or reap or gather into barns.

  227. yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Aren't you

  228. worth more than they? That's a pretty good verse.

  229. That's a pretty good verse for us to plug into

  230. the Word of God and say, okay, I'm worrying.

  231. What am I going to do? I have a problem. Man,

  232. things just don't feel like it. I just feel this

  233. stress. What's my diagnosis? Well, my diagnosis

  234. is that I'm worried, okay? We've established

  235. that. So what does Jesus say? Jesus says, take

  236. a deep breath. He says, know this. God loves

  237. you. He cares for you. Look at the way God cares

  238. for the smallest things in the world. The birds

  239. of the sky and the grass of the field, the flowers

  240. of the field. They're here today and they're

  241. gone tomorrow. And yet God provides for them.

  242. They don't worry. How much more so will God?

  243. Provide for you. Now Jesus says here, do not

  244. worry. If Jesus says do not do something and

  245. we do it, then that's a sin. Now we might not

  246. think of worry as a sin. And I'm not telling

  247. you that I have mastered not worrying. I get

  248. it. Because man knows sooner than you stop worrying,

  249. it comes right back. You start worrying again.

  250. But maybe we find comfort in the word of God

  251. today. Maybe you are worried today, and maybe

  252. you just need these words of Jesus of reassurance

  253. that you have to trust the Lord, not depend on

  254. yourself, not get overwhelmed by the things of

  255. the world, but know that God is watching out

  256. for you today. And he may not give you everything

  257. that you want, but he's going to take care of

  258. you. And there are plenty of us in this room.

  259. that could testify to that today. That there

  260. have been seasons in our life that God has taken

  261. care of us. That as a church, that there have

  262. been times that have been tough, that God has

  263. provided and taken care of us. So we plug into

  264. the Word of God, and it helps us to see that

  265. we don't need to worry. If worry is your problem,

  266. this is a good scripture to turn to. Here's another

  267. problem that some of you may face. Anxiety, kind

  268. of in the same family as worry. Does anybody

  269. ever get anxious about anything? Probably all

  270. of us. Boy, we get anxious. We get worked up.

  271. And, man, it's just bad when you have an anxiety

  272. attack. Some of you really had some serious anxiety

  273. attacks, I bet. And, man, that anxiety is overwhelming

  274. because in the midst of our anxiety, we're not

  275. sure how we're going to make it out. What am

  276. I going to do? What do I need to do? And we just

  277. get in this panicked state where we can't do

  278. anything. And we just feel the weight of that.

  279. And some of you come into this building today,

  280. perhaps, and you feel the weight of that anxiety.

  281. Some of you listening online feel the weight

  282. of that anxiety. Here's a great scripture. Okay,

  283. we got a problem. We feel it. We feel, we know

  284. there's a problem. We plug into the word of God.

  285. What does it say? In Philippians chapter four,

  286. verses six and seven, it says, do not be anxious

  287. about anything. Well, that's easier said than

  288. done, right? I can stand up here all day and

  289. tell you don't be anxious, but it's not that

  290. easy. But praise the Lord, not only does the

  291. Bible tell us not to be anxious, it doesn't just

  292. stop there. It tells us what to do. Listen to

  293. what the Scripture says. Don't be anxious about

  294. anything, but in every situation, by prayer and

  295. petition with thanksgiving, present your request

  296. to God. and the peace of God, which transcends

  297. all understanding, will guard your hearts and

  298. minds in Christ Jesus. Man, that's good advice.

  299. Be anxious for nothing, okay? So what am I going

  300. to do, God? You're telling me not to be anxious.

  301. What do you want me to do? Well, the answer is

  302. pretty simple, and we probably know the answer,

  303. but do you do it? Be anxious for nothing but

  304. in everything. Through prayer and supplication,

  305. let your requests be made known to God. Are you

  306. praying to God about your struggles, about your

  307. anxiety, about the things that have you feeling

  308. this way? Well, the scripture, man, this is a

  309. good scripture to plug into. If you got stuff

  310. going on in your heart and your life, man, you

  311. might want to jot this one down. You may want

  312. to memorize it. I don't do good at memorizing

  313. scriptures, but this is one of the first scriptures

  314. I memorized. And maybe it's good for some of

  315. you to think about and bookmark or memorize.

  316. Because that anxiety, man, it comes. It seems

  317. like it just comes more and more often. But the

  318. cure for that anxiety is to take your problems

  319. to God. Say, God, I need you. I just feel the

  320. weight of this situation in my life, whatever

  321. it may be. God, I need you. God, I feel the weight

  322. of my sin. God, I need you to forgive me. God,

  323. I need you to be my strength. I need you to help

  324. me. And what does it say? That if we pour our

  325. heart out to the Lord, if we let our requests

  326. be made known to God, what does it say? That

  327. we'll experience the peace of God which transcends

  328. all understanding. Boy, in the midst of our struggles

  329. and our anxiety, we say, I don't understand how

  330. I can get out of this. I don't understand how

  331. I can get any freedom from this. God can give

  332. you freedom from it. He can give you a peace

  333. that you can't understand until you have received

  334. it from him. You struggle with anxiety today,

  335. plug into the word of God. The scripture may

  336. help you to get through those tough times. Here's

  337. another problem. Maybe some of you in your life,

  338. you got something going on, you plug into the

  339. word of God and you begin to read about fear.

  340. Boy, I bet we've all been afraid before. Sometimes

  341. we are afraid of things that don't really amount

  342. to a whole lot. We're afraid of the monster under

  343. the bed or whatever it may be. But even those

  344. fears are real to us. Sometimes we're fearful

  345. of more serious things. What if I lose my job

  346. and I can't provide for my family? What if something

  347. happens to my loved one who's in the hospital?

  348. I mean, there are real fears that come up in

  349. our life. Okay, God's put something on my heart.

  350. He's kind of put it on my heart that I need to

  351. go talk to a friend or a family member and share

  352. some scripture with them or pray with them. God,

  353. I don't know if I can do that or not. I'm pretty

  354. afraid. I don't know God. And there's a lot of

  355. things in our life that bring about fear. But

  356. we plug into the Word of God. Here's one thing

  357. the Word of God says about fear. Joshua 1, verse

    Joshua 1:9

  358. 9. God says, Haven't I commanded you be strong

  359. and courageous? Do not be afraid or discouraged

  360. for the Lord your God is with you wherever you

  361. go. Now that's pretty reassuring. That's pretty

  362. reassuring because the truth is that you and

  363. I are weak. You know you're weak and I know you're

  364. weak. We're strong to a certain extent, but there

  365. is a weakness that is in us. There are things

  366. that we go up against and we say, I don't know

  367. if I can do this. I don't know that I can make

  368. it. with my loved one who has passed. God, I

  369. don't know that I can make it in this marriage.

  370. God, I don't know that I can make it through

  371. this horrible situation. I don't know that I

  372. can do this thing that you're calling me to,

  373. God. I just don't know. I'm too afraid of what

  374. might happen if I do this or of what the future

  375. may hold for me. And there's a fear that just

  376. kind of grips and holds on to us. Boy, those

  377. words that God spoke to Joshua, those are good

  378. words. He spoke these words when Joshua was about

  379. to lead God's people into the promised land.

  380. Moses had got them right up to the doorstep.

  381. And God said, that's going to be Joshua. You're

  382. going to be the one that's going to do it. So

  383. it's your turn now, Joshua. You're going to lead

  384. my people, which probably was a couple of me

  385. and maybe more by this point of God's people.

  386. It probably was a lot of folks. You're going

  387. to lead them into a foreign land. This land ain't

  388. empty, by the way. There's a lot of people living

  389. there, and they're not going to be happy you're

  390. coming. But you're just going to go in, and you're

  391. going to live there. But don't worry. But don't

  392. worry. This was a scary thing for Joshua. I expect

  393. it would have been. And maybe that's why God

  394. tells him multiple times here in this first chapter.

  395. Do not be afraid, because God says, I will be

  396. with you wherever you go. Maybe you need that

  397. reminder today to know that God will be with

  398. you wherever you go. Here's something we struggle

  399. with. We plug into the word of God in our life

  400. and our struggles. And what does it talk about?

  401. It talks about temptation. Is anybody in here

  402. ever tempted? Absolutely. Now, everybody's temptations

  403. are different. We need to realize that. There

  404. are things that other people do and you say,

  405. I don't know how they can do that. They just

  406. need to stop doing that. Well, hold up a second.

  407. There may be some things that you're doing that

  408. you need to stop doing too. But it's a lot easier

  409. for us to tell everybody they need to stop their

  410. sins. Maybe we need to stop our sins. So temptations

  411. are all around us. They're not all the same.

  412. Some of you may be tempted to lie. Some of you

  413. may be tempted to steal. Whatever your temptation

  414. may be. Our temptations are not all the same,

  415. but they are all temptations nonetheless. What's

  416. the Bible say about temptation? In 1 Corinthians

    1 Corinthians 10:13

  417. 10, verse 13, it says, No temptation has overtaken

  418. you except what is common to humanity. God is

  419. faithful. He will not allow you to be tempted

  420. beyond what you are able. But with the temptation,

  421. he will also provide a way of escape so that

  422. you are able to bear it. Okay, temptations are

  423. going to come. But praise the Lord for the word

  424. of God because you're going to be struggling.

  425. Maybe this afternoon. Maybe later this week.

  426. Maybe next month. There's going to be a point

  427. in your life where you are going to be tempted

  428. to do something you shouldn't do and you know

  429. you shouldn't do it. You're going to be tempted

  430. when somebody says something to you or does something

  431. to you, you are going to be tempted to open your

  432. mouth and just let them have it. You are going

  433. to be tempted to punch them in the nose. You

  434. are going to be tempted to say something, to

  435. do something. You are going to be tempted in

  436. some way. Them temptations are going to come.

  437. But the Word of God says, look. God's going to

  438. be with you. He's going to give you a way out.

  439. And maybe in that temptation, we need to remember

  440. this verse. We need to plug into the word of

  441. God. We need to remember verses like this and

  442. say, God, I need you to show me the way out.

  443. God, I'm tempted to drive to the bar. God, I'm

  444. passing by. God, I need you to give me a road

  445. to turn off the other way. God, I need a way

  446. to avoid my temptation. God, my mouth is about

  447. to open. God, I need you to help me to have the

  448. strength to walk out of the room. God, show me

  449. the way out. Let me see the way out. Convict

  450. me of the way out. God, I don't want to give

  451. in to this temptation. So God, you need to help

  452. me. And God will help us if we'll seek him. We

  453. don't have to give in to our temptations. There

  454. is a way out. And praise the Lord, we plug into

  455. the word of God and it reminds us of that. How

  456. about freedom? Scripture talks about freedom.

  457. That's something that we probably all seek and

  458. desire. We all have those temptations that we've

  459. given in to just a few more times than we want.

  460. And we just keep giving in to them. And they're

  461. addictions and they're things that we crave.

  462. And it may be a chocolate chip cookie or it may

  463. be that next drink or it may be that next whatever

  464. it is. It may be that thing that we're craving

  465. and that we just keep giving in to that temptation

  466. and it's unhealthy for us in some way, spiritually

  467. or physically, and we just keep giving in and

  468. giving in and giving in and we say, God, I'm

  469. tired of giving in. Well, I want to tell you

  470. today that there is freedom from your sin, whatever

  471. it may be, that temptation, that sin that so

  472. easily ensnares you, there is freedom from that

  473. today. God's Word says in John chapter... 8 verse

  474. 36. Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you

  475. will be free indeed. Man, that's a good verse.

  476. You want to be set free today? You can be set

  477. free by Jesus Christ. You don't have to let your

  478. sin get the better of you. You might fail again.

  479. I won't say that you won't give in to that temptation,

  480. but I'll tell you, you can stand up to the enemy.

  481. You can stand up to the temptation with the power

  482. of Jesus Christ, but you cannot do it alone.

  483. But if you will seek him, you will find him.

  484. And you will find freedom that brings a peace

  485. that you have never imagined. There are some

  486. things that some of you may have struggled with

  487. your whole life, but I want to tell you today,

  488. there is freedom in Jesus Christ. And I'm not

  489. telling you it's always going to be easy from

  490. this point forward, but I'm telling you, and

  491. I promise you that if you would seek Jesus Christ

  492. with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength,

  493. that he will give you deliverance and you will

  494. experience a freedom that you have never felt

  495. before. And how do we know these things? We know

  496. them by plugging into the Word of God. And it

  497. reveals stuff to us that maybe we already know

  498. is there, and it reveals other things to us as

  499. we continue to read it that maybe we weren't

  500. aware of, that God said were wrong, or that they

  501. were things that we were doing in our life. How

  502. about depression? Does anybody in here ever feel

  503. depressed? Man, depression's a serious thing.

  504. It gets you down. You don't want to be around

  505. people. You don't want to come to church. You

  506. don't want to read the Word of God. You just,

  507. everybody has given up on you. Everybody's your

  508. enemy. Nothing is going to work out. Your life

  509. is the worst that there's ever been in the history

  510. of the world. And you just, you see no hope in

  511. life. There is no glimmer of hope in your life.

  512. Nobody cares for you. Man, when we get in that

  513. place, that's when depression begins to set in.

  514. Nobody cares about me. God doesn't even care

  515. about me. Well, I want to tell you that's a lie

  516. today. God does care about you. God cares about

  517. you more than you could possibly realize. How

  518. do we know that? Well, we know that when we plug

  519. into the Word of God. 1 Peter 5, 7 says, casting

  520. all your care on him because he cares for you.

  521. There's a lot of cares that we have. Man, there's

  522. a lot of burden in this room. There's a lot of

  523. people in here. And if we begin to make a list

  524. of the cares and the worries and the anxieties

  525. and the burdens that we have, we'd be here all

  526. day writing those things out. And you may say,

  527. nobody cares. But I want to tell you that God

  528. cares today. He wants you to put your cares on

  529. Him. God cares today. He loves you today. He

  530. has not forgotten you today. If you would just

  531. seek Him, I'm telling you that I'm not guaranteeing

  532. you that your life is going to just magically

  533. get better. But I'm telling you when you seek

  534. the Lord, you're going to find a strength and

  535. a freedom and a peace that you never knew existed.

  536. Don't let your depression get the best of you

  537. today. Know that God cares about you. What else

  538. does the Bible tell us when we begin to plug

  539. in? Well, it talks a little bit about greed and

  540. the love of money. 1 Timothy 6, verse 9 says,

    1 Timothy 6:9

  541. But those who want to be rich fall into temptation,

  542. a trap, and many foolish and harmful desires

  543. which plunge people into ruin and destruction.

  544. Watch out. Now, Most of us in this room, we would

  545. probably say, oh, we're not rich. Well, hold

  546. up a second. Maybe you're not rich compared to

  547. some of the people you know that have the big

  548. mansions and the fancy cars or the private jets,

  549. but there's a lot of people in this world. And

  550. I would venture to say that most Americans are

  551. probably richer than 95 % of the people in the

  552. world. There's a lot of people in the world that

  553. have not eaten today. They will not eat today.

  554. And I would venture to say that most of you have

  555. something in your pantry and your refrigerator.

  556. It may not be what you want, but you probably

  557. have something in there. And if you don't, just

  558. hit me up after church and we're going to see

  559. that you're took care of. But if we compare ourselves

  560. to the billionaires of the world, then we're

  561. not rich. But when we begin to look in the rest

  562. of the world, perhaps we are richer than we think.

  563. Boy, we begin to accumulate that wealth, and

  564. we begin to accumulate those materialistic things,

  565. and pretty soon we just want more and more and

  566. more, and we become greedy. Boy, people become

  567. greedy. Guess what happens? People start doing

  568. a whole lot of crazy stuff for money. People

  569. do crazy stuff for money. I ain't talking about

  570. just sticking their hand at the cash register

  571. at the grocery store. I mean, people will come

  572. up with plots to kill people for money. I mean,

  573. that's what greed will do. And maybe we don't

  574. realize we have a love of money. But boy, we

  575. plug into the word of God and it begins to kind

  576. of run through our soul. And all of a sudden,

  577. it makes us aware that maybe there's a problem

  578. in our life that we did not know was there. That

  579. error code pops up. Uh -oh, you've got the greed

  580. error going on in your life. You need to fix

  581. this. Why? Because that greed is going to lead

  582. to your destruction. For the love of money is

  583. the root of all kinds of evil. Now, money in

  584. and of itself is not evil. No more than a gun's

  585. evil. But boy, when you begin to use it for evil,

  586. when you begin to use it to do things that are

  587. not what God desires, when you begin to trust

  588. in those things of the world, all of the sudden

  589. we have a problem. So praise God. That if we

  590. would just read the word of God, there is so

  591. much instruction there. Maybe we don't want to

  592. hear it. Maybe we know there's some things in

  593. our life that shouldn't be there, some things

  594. that need to be fixed. And we just take our little

  595. black tape and we just put it right over that

  596. check engine light because we don't want to deal

  597. with it. But the things that we don't want to

  598. deal with will destroy us spiritually. So if

  599. we know things are there, then we need to seek

  600. a solution for those things. And we need to begin

  601. to get into God's word and say, okay, God, these

  602. are the things I know I'm struggling with. Help

  603. me with these things and reveal to me the things

  604. that I'm not aware of. And the moment we plug

  605. into God's word, it begins to diagnose our problems.

  606. And praise the Lord. Here's another one of our

  607. things that we may struggle with. Pride. Anybody

  608. struggle with that? Maybe you do. Maybe you say,

  609. I'm not proud. I'm as humble as anybody in this

  610. world. Well, maybe you need to listen to this

  611. next verse. Maybe you are a little proud. Maybe

  612. pride creeps into our hearts more than we realize.

  613. What does the scripture say? Proverbs chapter

    Proverbs 11:2

  614. 11, verse 2. When pride comes, disgrace follows.

  615. But with humility comes wisdom. Okay, pride may

  616. pop itself up, but be aware what's going to follow

  617. that pride. It's going to be disgrace. Boy, pride

  618. comes before a fall. So the moment we start thinking

  619. that we are all that and a bag of chips, yeah,

  620. I'm so cool, I'm the best there's ever been,

  621. ain't nothing going to happen to me, you better

  622. watch out because we begin to let our guard down.

  623. We begin to make foolish decisions. We begin

  624. to trust in ourself and not God. And the next

  625. thing you know, we have fallen quick. I mean

  626. quick. So, man. If you've not read the book of

  627. Proverbs, I would encourage you to start 2026

  628. off reading the book of Proverbs. It'd be a great

  629. book to start and read through in the month of

  630. January and February and March and April all

  631. the way to 2027. Because you begin to read things

  632. like that in the word of God and it begins to

  633. reveal things about foolishness in there. And

  634. all of a sudden you realize, wait a minute, I

  635. might be the fool. We don't like to think of

  636. ourselves as the fool, but when we plug into

  637. the word of God, it says the fool does X, Y,

  638. and Z. And you say, wait a minute, I do all those

  639. things. And so the word of God humbles us if

  640. we'll read it. But boy, we don't plug into the

  641. word of God. We don't address our pride. Next

  642. thing you know, we're falling quick. A couple

  643. more. Another. that some of us may deal with

  644. is loneliness. Anybody ever here feel lonely?

  645. It kind of goes along with some of the rest of

  646. the things we talked about, depression and fear.

  647. Those things all kind of go together, but sometimes

  648. we feel lonely. Sometimes we feel like we're

  649. walking through this world on our own. But again,

  650. we plug into the Word of God, we realize that

  651. that's not true. Psalm... Verse 4 says, Yea,

  652. though I walk through the valley of the shadow

  653. of death, I will fear no evil, for thou art with

  654. me. Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Boy,

  655. you're walking through some dark valleys, some

  656. of you. Maybe you are today. Maybe you have in

  657. the past. Maybe you will in the future. Boy,

  658. we walk through those valleys and it feels like

  659. we're a lone wolf. We're on this journey. This

  660. is dark. This is scary. Death is upon me. All

  661. these fears, all these struggles are upon me.

  662. But what does the Lord say in the Psalm? But

  663. thou art with me. David says, thou art with me.

  664. God, I know that I am not alone. I am walking

  665. through this dark valley in my life, but I know

  666. that I am not alone. Man, the Bible is full of

  667. good verses like this. that remind us that we

  668. are not alone, that God loves us, that God cares

  669. for us. But the only way we can know these things

  670. is to read the Word of God, to be plugged into

  671. the Word of God. Here's one some of us may struggle

  672. with, lust. Anybody ever struggle with lust before?

  673. Don't raise your hand. Here's what Jesus says,

  674. Matthew 5, verse 28. But I tell you, everyone

    Matthew 5:28

  675. who looks at a woman to lust for her has already

  676. committed adultery within his heart. Well, that's

  677. pretty serious. Boy, we've all probably looked

  678. at somebody, men, women, had an unpure thought,

  679. thought something we shouldn't have thought,

  680. let our mind go a little too far with that thought.

  681. What does Jesus say? He says, if you've lusted,

  682. you've committed adultery in your heart. Well,

  683. what is he doing here? He's saying your sin's

  684. worse than you think it is. You think, boy, I

  685. could do this little thing. This isn't hurting

  686. anything. I'm just looking. I'm not following

  687. through. I'm not touching. But what Jesus says

  688. is your sin is worse than you think it is. And

  689. these little things you do are having more of

  690. an effect on your heart than you realize that

  691. they're having. Galatians chapter 5 verse 16

    Galatians 5:16

  692. says, I say then, walk by the Spirit and you

  693. will not carry out the desire of the flesh. All

  694. right, we have these fleshly lustful desires

  695. and fleshly desires to do plenty of other things.

  696. So what does Scripture say? Okay, here's the

  697. problem. You lust in your heart and guess what?

  698. It's worse than you think. But the Scripture

  699. also says, don't walk in the flesh, walk in the

  700. Spirit. Well, how do we walk in the Spirit? Well,

  701. one, we have to accept Jesus Christ. We have

  702. to have the Holy Spirit in us. We have to know

  703. the Word of God. So we have to plug into the

  704. Word of God. And finally, there's plenty of things

  705. we could go through. This is a short list, but

  706. anger. Does anybody in here ever struggle with

  707. anger? Maybe you do. Maybe you don't. Here's

  708. what the Scripture says, Proverbs 14, verse 29.

    Proverbs 14:29

  709. A patient person shows great understanding, but

  710. a quick -tempered one promotes foolishness. Are

  711. you quick -tempered? Are you quick to anger?

  712. Are you wise or are you foolish? Proverbs chapter

    Proverbs 15:1

  713. 15 verse 1 says, A gentle answer turns away anger,

  714. but a harsh word stirs up wrath. Do you struggle

  715. with anger in your life? Well, you plug into

  716. the word of God, those proverbs are pretty good

  717. reminder for us that we need to keep our mouth

  718. shut. Now, this is not an exhaustive list of

  719. all of our sins. And maybe you struggle with

  720. some of these things that we've looked at today.

  721. Or maybe you struggle with other things. But

  722. I want to tell you the word of God is good. If

  723. you would plug into it and just say, God, I need

  724. a diagnostic test. God, I want to open my heart.

  725. up to you i want to read your word i want to

  726. let it speak to me and reveal things that i need

  727. to see god i want to see what's going on in my

  728. heart and we begin to read god's word and it

  729. begins to work on our heart and it begins to

  730. reveal things to us here's what it'll reveal

  731. to us romans chapter 3 verse 10 says there was

    Romans 3:10

  732. no one righteous not even one that's the diagnosis

  733. for you and i Is that we are evil and that we

  734. are sinful people. That we have plugged into

  735. the word of God and it has diagnosed that there

  736. is a big problem and that is our sinfulness.

  737. No different than when you go to the mechanic

  738. and they plug in that diagnostic tool and they

  739. come back and they tell you that your spider

  740. valve actuating agitator is broke. You're going

  741. to have to replace it in your car. They come

  742. back to you and they say, we have run this test.

  743. We have diagnosed that there is a big problem

  744. that you have to fix right now. Boy, don't you

  745. love it? You go to the shop. You get your oil

  746. changed or you're getting something done. And

  747. they come in there. Y 'all have probably had

  748. this happen before. They come in there and they've

  749. got your in -cabin air filter. And they're holding

  750. this thing up. Boy, it's covered in dust. And

  751. they're flopping this thing around. And they

  752. say, you're going to have to replace this in

  753. -cabin air filter. You are breathing in this

  754. air. Do you know how dangerous this is? I said,

  755. I wouldn't even put my dog in this car. And you're

  756. probably riding your kids around. You better

  757. change this in -cabin air filter. How much is

  758. it? It's $50. You need to change this thing.

  759. I'm surprised you made it over here today alive,

  760. breathing in this air. Boy, and they come. They

  761. say, you've got a big problem. You've got to

  762. fix this. You've got to fix it right now. And

  763. I say, okay, put it in there. $50 here. Put it

  764. in there. I need it. Thanks for saving my life.

  765. And then they come back and they say. I'm not

  766. making this up. And they say, we've also got

  767. this disinfectant spray that we'll spray on it

  768. for $15 to kill anything that goes through it.

  769. I said, look, here's my card. Take $30. Spray

  770. it twice. Whatever you got to do. Sometimes we

  771. go to the mechanic shop and their diagnosis is

  772. not really too serious. Nothing that we need

  773. to take very serious. But when it comes to the

  774. word of God, And when it comes to our soul, and

  775. God's word begins to speak to us, and we begin

  776. to see the dirtiness and the nastiness there,

  777. it's far worse than our in -cabin air filter.

  778. It's a serious problem that needs to be dealt

  779. with. So the diagnosis is that we are sinners,

  780. that our hearts are evil as they can be. That

  781. we do and we think and we say things that we

  782. shouldn't do. That God does not want us to do.

  783. That God does not approve of. That God says don't

  784. do these things and we do them and we're so full

  785. of evil and sin and it weighs us down. That's

  786. the diagnosis. But here is the fix. Here's the

  787. fix. Ezekiel chapter 36 verses 26 and 27. I will

    Ezekiel 36:26

  788. give you a new heart and put a new spirit within

  789. you. I will remove your heart of stone and give

  790. you a heart of flesh. I will place my spirit

  791. within you and cause you to follow my statutes

  792. and carefully observe my ordinances. What's our

  793. diagnosis? Our diagnosis is our heart is horrible.

  794. But what's the fix? Your heart's horrible, but

  795. here's what it's going to take to fix it. It's

  796. going to take a new heart. And that's exactly

  797. what God told his people. In Ezekiel. He said,

  798. I want to take out your heart of stone. I want

  799. to take out your sinful heart. I want to put

  800. my spirit within you. I want to transform you.

  801. I want to make you into a new man, into a new

  802. woman. I don't want you to live in your sin anymore.

  803. I want to give you freedom. I want to show you

  804. love. I want to give you grace and I want to

  805. give you peace. God says, you got a bad heart,

  806. but I want to change that. I want to change that

  807. into something beautiful and something pure and

  808. something that's been washed as white as snow.

  809. And we'll go to the mechanic shop, and they come

  810. back with their diagnosis and the fix. They tell

  811. us, here's what you need, and what's the first

  812. question we ask? How much is that going to cost?

  813. You may be asking that question today. You said,

  814. I get it. I didn't even need to have a diagnostic.

  815. I know my heart is evil. We know our heart's

  816. evil. We know we need a new heart. What's that

  817. going to cost? It's not going to cost you anything.

  818. But it costs Jesus everything. Jesus Christ gave

  819. his life on a cross so that you could be forgiven.

  820. He shed his blood so that if you would Call out

  821. to him if you would seek him, if you would repent

  822. of your sins, that he would forgive you of those

  823. sins, that he would wash those things away, that

  824. the Holy Spirit would come and indwell in you.

  825. If you would just seek him today, if you would

  826. just seek his word today, if you would just plug

  827. in to the word of God today and let it speak

  828. to you, you may find that there's a lot of fixes

  829. for your soul and for your heart. that God wants

  830. to work in your life if you would just let Him.

  831. You may find that there are some things that

  832. God wants to work on that maybe you didn't even

  833. know were there if you would just plug in to

  834. the Word of God and let Him. All you have to

  835. do is follow Jesus Christ. He's paid it all.

  836. He's paid the price. He's covered the cost so

  837. that your heart can be made new. 1 Peter 2, verse

    1 Peter 2:24

  838. 24 says, He himself bore our sins in his body

  839. on the tree, so that having died to sins, we

  840. might live for righteousness. You have been healed

  841. by his wounds. Have you been healed today? Spiritually,

  842. he wants to heal you. He wants to forgive you.

  843. You don't have to give in to the temptations.

  844. You don't have to be overcome by fear and anxiety.

  845. You don't have to feel alone or afraid. You don't

  846. have to live in depression. You don't have to

  847. live in addiction. Jesus Christ has paid the

  848. price. If you would only ask him for forgiveness

  849. today, he would forgive your sins. Let's pray.

  850. God, we thank you for your good word. We thank

  851. you that we can look at it, that it can encourage

  852. us, that it can correct us, that it can convict

  853. us, dear Lord, that it can guide us. God, we

  854. have to be in your word to be able to experience

  855. these truths. So I pray, dear Lord, that if there

  856. is one here today that does not know Jesus Christ,

  857. that maybe there was a passage we read today.

  858. Maybe there was a truth that was spoken today

  859. that just hit home. Maybe there are some today

  860. that are struggling with their fear and their

  861. depression and their temptations and addictions.

  862. The things that are common to all of us, dear

  863. Lord, we all have these struggles, but maybe

  864. there are some today, God, that are just struggling

  865. so hard they just need some help. And I pray

  866. that they would know that that help comes through

  867. Jesus Christ. I pray that they would seek him

  868. right now. That they would pray to you. That

  869. they would ask for forgiveness today. God, maybe

  870. there are some that have never known Jesus Christ.

  871. They've never trusted him. But maybe today they

  872. realize that their sins need to be forgiven.

  873. Maybe they realize that the peace that they so

  874. desperately seek is found only in Jesus Christ.

  875. God, maybe there's some in here today and maybe

  876. they're yours. But maybe they just hadn't been

  877. in your word. Maybe they've heard it. Now you

  878. know it. But maybe they've been putting a little

  879. piece of black tape over all those warning lights

  880. that's been going off. I pray today, dear Lord,

  881. that they'd rip it off. that they would open

  882. their heart, that they would let your word speak

  883. to them, your spirit would work on them, God,

  884. that they would repent. God, I pray that everyone

  885. in here today will know that you love them, that

  886. you care for them, and that Jesus Christ died

  887. on the cross. So God, I pray that you would help

  888. us to be in your word, and I pray that your word

  889. would do a mighty work in our hearts today and

  890. every day moving forward. And I ask these things

  891. in Jesus' name. Amen.
