We've been looking at some incredibly powerful attributes

of the Lord Jesus, haven't we? Over the last few weeks?

I think of his omnipotence, his power to rise.

We saw last week, his power to heal, His Holiness.

These are all the great attributes, just a a few of the

great attributes of Jesus Christ.

But I want us to look at one of the attributes of Christ here

this morning that at first when I say it, it might seem kind of

like, well, to be honest with you, a downgrade a little bit.

Everyone likes an upgrade, don't they?

If you get an upgrade when you're flying, they say, would

you like to go to first class? My answer is not rather not.

I'd rather sit here in the back folded up like a pretzel eating

pretzels, right? No, we want the upgrade.

Would you like a better hotel room?

Well, is it going to cost me? No.

Sure. Then I would love to have a

nicer hotel room. We we're not looking for a

downgrade when it comes to life. That's that's not the way that

life works. And when we think of Jesus, we

have the highest possible thought process about Jesus.

At least I'm looking at the people here in this room this

morning and that's the way I imagine that you think about

Jesus Christ that you have the highest possible a thought

process about who he is. And so when I tell you what

we're looking at with the attribute of Christ this

morning, you might again think that it's more of a downgrade.

But yet I think it's important that we look at it this morning,

not because only that it gives us a fuller understanding of the

ministry of Christ, but also because it helps us to

understand how we are to respond to the ministry of Christ.

It's not just about getting a fuller picture of the ministry

of Christ that is important, but it's also to help us know how we

are to respond to his ministry within our own life.

And that is this, that Christ is prophet, say, but Pastor, isn't

he more than a prophet? Well, yes, but he still is

prophet. And the fact that he is a

prophet helps us understand more again about how we are to

respond to him. In that office of prophet.

We stand pleased for the reading of God's word.

If you're able to Luke chapter #24 beginning in verse #13 we'll

follow our same format this morning of going through and

understanding the word, understanding why it's there,

and then wow, how it, it applies to us.

You know, the time's a little bit later than normal this

morning, but you're still ready for some preaching.

Amen. All right, look, you're going to

be late to the restaurant anyway, so just go ahead and

just settle in, all right? It's not going to be too long,

but we do want to make sure we get into the Word because that's

what we're here for this morning as much as anything.

It says in verse #13 behold, 2 of them went that same day to a

village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem.

About 3 score furlongs and they talk together of all these

things which had happened. He say, well what had happened?

Well, Jesus was written. We just saw that last week and

it came to pass while they commune together and reason.

Now watch this. Jesus himself drew near and went

with them, but their eyes were holding, that they should not

know Him. And he said unto them, What

manner of communications are these, that you have one to

another as you walk, and are said?

And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas answering, said unto

him, Aren't thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and has not known

the things which are come to pass the last these they are in

these days. And he said unto them, What

things? And they said unto him

concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet, mighty and

deed and word before God and all the people, And here's Cleopas

and his companion, and they're sad.

Why? Because Jesus is gone.

But yet Jesus is walking with them down the road to Emmaus.

He says, what's the matter? As if Jesus doesn't know what's

the matter. Remember, when Jesus asks

questions, he's not asking to find information, but it's more

to Draw Something out of the heart of the person who answers.

And they said something has happened to the prophet, the

prophet Jesus, and it's that prophet office of which he

inhabits that I want us to look at here this morning.

We'll be seated as we pray together.

Heavenly Father, again, we do thank you for this time.

I thank you for our brother and sister that are going to Spain,

the Johnsons. Lord bless them here this

morning. We just so thankful for them,

thankful for our guests and thankful for our brother Rob

being here today. Lord bless him in his body,

strengthen him. But I do pray that you would

help us to focus on your word this morning.

What needs to be received? What needs to be given?

May we all do our part. And Lord, may Your Holy Spirit

do that in our hearts so that we can respond as you have called

us to. And we ask it all in Jesus name,

Amen. So we took that word Christ as

prophet, that word prophet as we have done the last several

weeks, we ask ourselves, well, what is this word about?

What is a prophet? Well, when you look at the

Hebrew word for prophet, which I have to agree with brother

Nathaniel, I don't read Hebrew, but I can read people who do

read Hebrew. And so I understand that word

prophet in the Hebrew literally comes from a root that means to

bubble forth as a fountain. So the idea of a prophet was to

literally utter that which was on inside and to have it come

out on the outside. Now the office of the prophet

was instituted for the people of God, for the people of Israel.

This is what God had used and instituted so that He could

speak for the people. The prophets were the mouthpiece

of God. You could almost put it that

way. Not that God needed a mouth, but

yet God had chosen to be able to use these amend for a very

particular purpose and a very particular task.

And and they mostly gave these messages to the people of

Israel. Now, sometimes they spoke to the

Gentiles as well. There's some good examples.

Jonah would be one of those examples going over to Nineveh.

Well, not at first, Amen, right. But eventually he got himself

there and did the right thing and he had to go to preach to

those Gentiles that were there at Nineveh.

Isaiah is a good example. If you read through particularly

the middle part of the book of Isaiah, you'll find there's a

lot of visions, there's a lot of burdens that are laid upon

Gentile nations, Egypt, the Philistines, Tyre, Sidon and

many others. Obadiah was written to the

Edomites. On and on we could go.

God is interested in speaking to all people, but particularly

that office of the prophet in the Old Testament.

Its first and foremost job was to speak to the people of

Israel. What was the job of the prophet

as the mouthpiece of God? Well, he was to communicate the

messages and the mind of God to the people.

This is important. He was to communicate the

messages and the mind of God to the people.

The prophet was not to make up the message.

The prophet was to give the message.

The prophet was not to just come up with something on his own.

He was literally to communicate that which was placed upon his

heart by none other than God himself.

I think of a very dark time in our family and I think of when

my mom had cancer and I think of the treatments that she went

through. This was back in 2014.

And we were very hopeful that there would have been some

change, that there would have been something better that that

would have come from the very invasive treatments that she was

going through. And I remember sitting in, in

the doctor's office and, and I don't remember everything about

that day. I, I know my wife was there.

I know my mom and my dad were there.

I don't remember a lot, but there's some things that I

remember very specifically. There was a doctor, Doctor Who

came in and he sat down and without a lot of pomp and

circumstance said this message to us, the cancer is spreading,

the cancer is not able to be treated and told us that there

was really not much hope of that which was to come.

Now, in many ways, that doctor that day was a prophet.

Now, I'm not saying that doctors are infallible.

Well, hello, we know that's not the case.

There's a lot of doctors who've given people a lot of numbers

and a lot of people lived out well beyond those years of the

time that they were given. So I'm not trying to say that

the doctors are infallible. You know, half the doctors were

at graduated the bottom 50% of their class.

Think about that for a second. You know, they're practicing,

but they're practicing on us. And I got a million of them at

doctors. All right, but what was that job

of that doctor that day? In essence, to be a prophet?

It was not his message. It was just what was there, and

someone had to communicate it and someone had to listen.

And that was the job of the doctor that day.

So how do we relate that to the prophet?

Well, Israel had a lot of problems.

Israel had a lot of issues with sin, and sin is a cancer, if you

will, that eats within the soul of those who are unsaved, which

caused them to go directly to a devil's hell after they perish

from this earth. And even for thus those of us

who are saved and know we're going on our road to heaven, a

sin can really mess up your life still.

And so there was the job of the prophet to come through and to

announce there's some cancer within your soul.

There's some sin, you know, that needs to be rectified.

And it wasn't because he had identified it of himself as the

prophet. It's because God had laid the

message and God had laid the mind of himself upon the

prophet, and that's what he was communicating.

And if the prophet was to be faithful, he said what God

wanted him to say, nothing more and nothing less.

And this is important to remember.

The faithful prophet had to give the message straight and true,

but the faithful people had to receive the Word as God had

communicated through the prophet.

The faithful prophet had to give the Word straight and true, but

the people had to receive it just as faithfully because it

really wasn't coming from the prophet, it was really coming

from God. Can I give you a good example of

this? Good.

Thank you, Rex. Somebody.

Can I get a witness? All right.

David was in sin. He took Bathsheba and did

wickedly with her. God was not pleased.

David thought he got away with it.

And in the eyes of man he did. But in the eyes of God, he sees

all. He knows all.

And nothing ever occurred to God that just happened to be.

He knows it all from the end of the beginning.

And so there's a prophet called Nathan who came to him with a

message from God. And that message was this David,

you have done wickedly. Nathan was faithful.

Why? He gave the message.

David received the message. I have done wickedly.

I understand what I have done wrong, and I accept the

judgement of God. David was faithful in that

moment because he received the word from the faithful prophet.

So there's two components here. A faithful prophet has to give

the word rightly, but then the faithful receiver has to hear

the word from the prophet and heed the word of the prophet as

well. So that helped us understand a

little bit about what a prophet is.

But yet that brings us to our text this morning.

And why are we looking at these two travellers on the road to

Emmaus? And why was Jesus there?

And why did they bring up the fact that he was a prophet?

Well, it starts in our text and verse #13 that they were on this

road that was going to a very small village called Emmaus.

It talks about it being about 3 score furlongs.

That's about 7 miles or so, a decent walk for someone to make

from Jerusalem back to their home village.

And yet, as they're walking, they're consumed with the talk

of everything that's happened. Jesus had died on the cross.

And then there was the Passover feast that was taking place over

the next few days. And now there's the news that

Jesus is gone. He's not there anymore.

And there's curiosity about why that is.

The disciples have a version of events that they've mentioned

and that the women who were there before, the disciples,

they've talked about it as well. But there just seems to be a

great amount of confusion to what is taking place.

And so as Jesus asks these questions, well, what manner of

communication are you talking about?

What things are going on? These two travelers,

particularly Cleopas, the one who is named, looks at Jesus and

basically says something like this.

Where have you been? How do you not know what's going

on these last few days? Who's this man?

Well, he was Jesus of Nazareth. He was a prophet, mighty in deed

and word before God and the people.

Now let's focus on verse #24 for a moment concerning Jesus of

Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty indeed.

And, and word now you might think that these people that

Cleopas and this other companion may have been misunderstood

about who Jesus was. You say, well, Jesus wasn't the

prophet, Jesus was the savior. Now, if you're like me, when you

hear that word that Jesus is a prophet, it kind of gets you

riled up a little bit inside. And the reason why is there's a

lot of false religions that are out there that will say that

Jesus Christ was a prophet. Now here's the issue.

Jesus Christ was a prophet. Let's get this right this

morning. Jesus Christ was a prophet.

But here's the part that those false religions miss.

Jesus Christ was more than a prophet.

Was he a prophet? 100% he was.

And it's important that we understand why he was a prophet,

why that office matters to us today.

But we also have to recognize that whether it's the Muslims or

whether it's the Jehovah Witnesses or whatever false

religion or false group that's out there that wants to say that

Jesus was just this prophetic man who had some good messages.

And if you just follow those and keep your nose clean and stay

out of trouble, that you'll probably do all right in life.

Or that maybe Jesus was a prophet, but Muhammad was

greater, or some other God is greater.

Sure, Jesus great, but others are greater.

There's none that are greater than Jesus Christ.

There is none that is greater than Jesus Christ.

But yet we cannot discount the fact that he was prophet.

So understanding that, quickly turn to Deuteronomy chapter #18

keep your place there. All right.

Put the ribbon there. Somebody haven't got a ribbon in

your Bible yet. You got to get that someday.

All right, Get a piece of yarn. All right, Put your neighbor's

hat in your in your Bible. Whatever you do, mark the place.

Deuteronomy, chapter 18. We'll go back now.

Deuteronomy 18 · chapter mention

We learned on Wednesday night that there are things in the Old

Testament to help us understand the New Testament, that we don't

just avoid the Old Testament because, well, we live in the

New Testament now. Well, the things that have in

the Old Testament are very much pertaining to what's going on in

the New Testament and that pertain to us today.

And Deuteronomy chapter 8. Deuteronomy, what am I going to

Deuteronomy 8 · chapter mention

do with that? It's just the second telling of

the law. If you could make it through

Exodus, you can make it through Deuteronomy, OK, because it was

told in Exodus and it was given again to another generation 40

years later in the book of Deuteronomy.

Deuteronomy chapter 18, verse #9 let's pick it up there.

Deuteronomy 18 · chapter mention

It says, When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God

giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do.

After the abomination of those nations, there shall not be

found among you, or anyone that maketh his son or daughter to

pass through the fire, or that use divination, or an observer

of times, or an enchanter, or a witch, or a charmer, or a

consultant with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a

necromancer. For all that do these things are

an abomination under the Lord. And because of these

abominations, the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before

thee. Thou shalt be perfect before the

Lord thy God, or with the Lord thy God, for these nations which

thou shalt possess hearkened unto observers of times and unto

diviners. But As for thee, the Lord thy

God had not suffered thee to do so.

Now stop here for just a moment. God says that the people that

were in the land, God gave them time to repent, but the cup of

iniquity is now full. Their time is now past that they

are going to be removed from the land as God has commanded.

And God says this. Why?

Why are these people leaving? Why are these people going to

have to pay with their lives for their trespasses and sins?

And the answer is very simple in what's being said here.

They're listening to the wrong voices.

They are listening to the wrong voices.

It says it there in verse 14. For these nations which thou

shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times and unto

diviners, they're listening to the wrong voices.

There's a lot of wrong voices out there today.

There's a lot of wrong voices that want to tell you there are

other ways other than Jesus Christ.

There's a lot of voices out there that even once we are

saved that want to pull us away from that close relationship

that we have with Jesus Christ and these people listen to the

wrong voices. But we have to continue because

we haven't really learned about prophet yet, have we?

Verse 15 says this. The Lord thy God will raise up

unto thee a prophet. Now we'll take a time out here

for a second. Now you got your good King James

Bible right there. That word prophet there is

interesting, isn't it? What's interesting about the

word prophet has a capital P me. This isn't just a prophet, this

is a prophet in particular. Why?

Well, if I talk about the moms that are here, well then we

would have a lowercase M. If I was talking about my mom,

and I did just a few minutes ago say, hey, mom capital M Why?

Because I'm talking about one in particular.

This isn't talking about all the profits.

This is talking about one in particular.

Now some of you getting ahead, let me build my case.

All right? You're getting ahead, you're

getting excited. That's good.

Are you excited about the Bible? I like that.

I really do. But you got to let me build the

case. All right.

We're looking at a particular prophet.

Who could it be? We don't know.

You all trying to just cut down the length of the sermon is what

you're trying to do. The Lord will raise up unto thee

a prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren like unto

me, unto him you shall hearken according to all that thou

desirous of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the

assembling, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord

my God, neither let me see this great fire anymore that I dine

at. Now stop here.

This is important. Oh, there's so much here.

All right, this is Exodus chapter #20 God gives the 10

commandments, right? He speaks the 10 commandments,

the voice of the Father. Sometimes we think that Moses

just went up and took the 10 commandments and came back down

with him. That's partially true, but God

had said, gather round and I'm going to speak and by the time

you get to verse #19 you can read this later.

Exodus 2019. They basically said this.

We can't handle the voice of God.

We cannot handle Him. What do they need?

They needed a prophet to come in between, to do what mankind

could not do. And so who was that prophet?

Well, first, that was Moses. We're talking Exodus chapter 20.

That was Moses who came and gave the words of God to the people

who immediately did not listen and did their own thing.

But they're going to need a prophet, and that's what he's

hearkening to right here, because Moses about to pass off

the scene. So he's mentioning this here.

Now keep going. It says in verse #17 And the

Lord said unto me, they have well spoken that which they have

spoken. God says, this is right.

This is right. What they're saying.

There needs to be a prophet. And so it says, verse 18, I will

raise up them up a prophet. There's that capital P again

from among their brethren like unto me, and will put my words

in his mouth, and he shall speak unto them all that I shall

command them. Now stop right there.

Who is that prophet? It is Jesus Christ.

Now how do I know that? I'm not going to make you turn

there right now. We don't have time.

But if you go to Acts chapter #3 Peter is preaching because a man

has been healed and there are people who are gathering around

and there's confusion about what's taking place.

And Peter wants to make sure all the glory goes to God and that

people understand the gospel. Peter says this in Acts chapter

Acts 3:20–22

3, verse 20 to 22. And he shall send Jesus Christ,

which was whom the heaven must receive, until the times of

restitution, of all things which God has spoken by the mouth of

all his holy prophets since the world began.

For Moses truly said unto the fathers, A prophet shall the

Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me,

Him shall ye here in all things, whatsoever he shall say unto

you. Could there be any question?

Peter makes it clear who is being spoken of here.

It is Jesus Christ. He is that prophet.

He is. That prophet, which means this

the faithful prophet has to give the message straight and true.

Was Jesus a faithful? Prophet, Every word, everything

his father told him to do, he did.

But also means this. The faithful prophet's job is to

give the word straight and true, but the faithful people have to

receive the word. And do as God.

Communicates through the prophet.

Why is it important that we understand the office of Jesus

being the prophet? Is it because he's only the

prophet? No, no, He's our savior.

But it's important to understand because it helps us understand

that our responsibility is to heed every word he says.

Say pastor isn't. That what we just talked about

last week. It was to a point.

Imagine we kind of go over that on Wednesday night about heeding

the Word of God. You know, that was in First

Corinthians chapter #10 it was. It kind of makes you wonder when

the Lord puts a theme together then.

Maybe there's something we got. To get a hold of.

And they meant. To come at it from different

angles. But yet we still need to

remember that our Jesus was faithful as the prophet.

But that means the call to us is to be equally faithful as the

hearers of the word of the prophet.

Are you a faithful hearer of the Word?

James chapter 1 talks. About that, doesn't it?

James 1 · chapter mention

Says you should be. Not just doers, hearers of the

word, but doers of the word. I wouldn't just read the verses,

that would be better. James chapter one, verse 22.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only deceiving your

own selves. For if anybody hearer of the

word and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his face in

the glass, for he beholdeth himself and go with his way, and

straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.

But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and

continue it therein, he shall not be a forgetful hearer, but a

doer of the work. This man shall be blessed

indeed. Here's what I'm saying this

morning. You might say, Pastor, I'm a

faithful hearer of the word, I promise.

Well, here's how we know if you are being faithful as a hearer

of the Word, just as the prophet.

We knew he was faithful. How?

Not just that he received the Word, but he had to give the

Word. He had to do it for us.

We have to receive it. And do it.

And then, and only then, you're faithful.

We hear a lot. We do a lot less.

I was at Shaw's a few weeks ago and I have this love hate

relationship with the self checkout lanes.

I don't know how you feel about that.

They're taking over. A is involved somehow in it.

I'm not exactly sure how, but they're taking over and I

complain about them and I use them.

Because if I've only. Got four or five things.

I'm not going and standing behind somebody that has a cart

of 1000 items with 500 coupons. All right, I'm not going to do

it. I'm going to go in the self

checkout lane. I know I shouldn't, but I do it.

As I was going in, the gentleman said to me as I walked up to one

of the the self checkout lanes, I think there was about four of

them there, five of them. And he says that one's cash

only. I said no problem.

Now I heard him say that one was only card only because you know

how that works. A lot of times nobody wants cash

anymore. Everybody wants a card.

So I said OK. To what he said.

I walked up, I did everything. Nothing happened.

You know why? Because that little light was

blinking down below for the cash.

I had to call him over. I said, something's wrong with

the self checkout. He says, well, I told you it

took cash. I said you did.

And he said I did. I said have you met my wife?

Because she's complained about these same problems in my life

of what you're telling me right now.

I had to cancel the whole thing out.

I had to go and go to another register and use a card.

Here's what I'm saying. I realized as soon as he was

telling me, I realized he did tell me that.

But I didn't do it. I heard a lot of Christians.

Could you imagine sitting at church 52 weeks a year?

Perhaps 3? Or 4 services a week and being

no better. Than where you started, you say.

How could that? Be well, it's not because the

Prophet was unfaithful. You know I'm.

Talking about the word, the living word.

I'm not talking about myself. No, I'm to preach with the

spirit of a prophet, but I'm no prophet nor my son of a prophet.

God doesn't use the prophets anymore.

He uses preachers to preach the word.

So I'm not coming to you saying that there are those who walk

around and roam around saying that they're modern prophets

today. Head for the hills when you hear

those. Hey, if that's on your web

browser and they're saying that, close it out.

If that's on a podcast, close it out.

If that's in your book, take it to the thrift store.

All right? Actually, do yourself a favor,

don't even thrift it all right? Because we have what?

The Bible says a more sure word of prophecy.

There's a more sure word of prophecy right here, and we got

to stick to this more sure word of prophecy.

This is what we got to stick to. But the problem is.

Can I just say what? I'm supposed to say thank you.

I'm going to say it anyway. We know what this book.

Says a lot. A lot of us do.

We don't do it the way we're supposed to, but the office of

the Prophet dictates that when the prophet speaks, the people

listen. Why is it important that we

understand that Jesus is the prophet?

Because when he speaks, he is the living word.

We must listen. What are you?

Going to listen about. There's two things go back to

Luke chapter #24. Pick up at verse. 20 it says,

and how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be

condemned to death and have crucified him.

But we trusted that it had been he which should have been, which

should have redeemed Israel. Now stop right there for a

moment that we're trusted there. You don't have to be a scholar

to know this. That we're trust is past tense.

It means they've lost hope. We thought there was hope in

Jesus, but we don't know anymore.

We trusted been He which redeemed Israel.

Beside all this, today is the third day since these things

were come. Yeah, and the certain women I

mentioned this before also of our company made us astonished,

which were early the sepulchre. When they found not his body,

they came saying that they had also seen a vision of angels

which said that he was alive. And certain of them which were

went with us went to the sepulchre.

They found it Even so, as the women had said, but they saw him

not. And he this is being Jesus.

Excuse me, said O fools, and slow of heart, to believe all

the prophets have spoken. Ought not Christ to have

suffered those things, and to enter into his glory?

He said, You spit read Jesus being a prophet, and you believe

the prophets. So why do you think he's just

gone? Because you should know what

happened to him. And you know what's beautiful

about this? And beginning at Moses and all

the prophets, he expounded unto them, and all the Scriptures the

things concerning himself. I have time to read.

The rest of the text, but they continue to walk down the road.

They say it it it's night. We got to we got to stop.

They go, they eat and Jesus asked the blessing for the food.

Now think about that for a second.

And as soon as he's done, the Bible says their eyes are open.

It's like the scales fell and they realized it's Jesus and

he's gone. And in that moment, it.

Says, you know, it's funny. They didn't care that it was

late anymore. They ran that 7 miles all the

way back to Jerusalem and found Jesus, or found and found the

disciples and told him we just saw Jesus.

What does that mean for us? That when it comes down.

To the scriptures, see how expounded the scriptures.

He opened up the scriptures to them.

The scriptures communicate some things to us that we need to be

aware. The 1st is this, if you don't

know Jesus Christ your Savior, you need to be saved today.

You'll be saved today. I think in John chapter 4 and

John 4 · chapter mention

Jesus met a woman at the well, she had some problems, some sin

problems. By the way, your sin problems

aren't like her problems I would imagine, but you got sin

problems too. You know what, Jesus?

Did he sat with her? He talked with her.

What other people would not? He loved her, pointed out her

sin. No, he didn't avoid sin.

But he pointed out. His love to her and what she

says to him is this. I know that one of the prophets

is coming. I know.

And there's questions about that prophet, and there's questions

about where we should worship. And interestingly.

Enough. Jesus did not leave the

conversation there about the prophet.

He continued to. Prod her lovingly until she

says, I know that Messiahs cometh.

And he looks at her. And he reveals to her something

that he revealed to very few so plainly.

He said, I am that Messiah. And all of a sudden she dropped

everything. And again, in the same manner,

she didn't care about the water anymore because she found the

living water. And she ran back and told

everybody that she could. Jesus wasn't satisfied with her

believing he was a prophet. He wanted her to know he was the

Messiah and I. Want you to know this.

Morning. If you don't know Jesus Christ

your Savior, he's not just a good person.

He's not just. Someone that's noble that you

can look up to? He is.

The Messiah, and only he can save you.

Only he could save you. So if you.

Don't know Jesus Christ, your savior today, I hope that you

come up to one of us after church and talk with us.

We'd love to take a Bible and show you what it means to be

saved. For those either saved this.

Morning. I give you this encouragement

again along the lines of us being faithful hearers of the

Word. You know.

Cleopas and his friend. They knew.

Jesus. But they only knew.

Part of Jesus, and what I mean by that is this, they never even

addressed him as anything more than the prophet in that moment.

They didn't know, they didn't understand.

They should have known that what had taken place that morning was

what Jesus had said was going to happen, hence He is the Messiah.

But they were so ingrained that the Messiah was supposed to live

and not die, that the Messiah was supposed to overthrow the

yoke of the Roman government that they couldn't see.

The full picture of who? Jesus is.

As we listen to. Every word of Jesus we must make

sure as believers we have the full view of Jesus Christ.

Here's an example. I just kind.

Of talked about it a moment ago. Christ is love.

Aren't you glad, Christ? Is love when you.

See how he. Interacted with what would be

called the dregs of society. You know what I love?

Working with people that know they don't have it all together.

They're my favorite people. Why?

Because that's me. And if they can put up with me,

I can put up with them, and maybe we'll get somewhere

together. Christ is love, and we need to

emphasize that at every turn. But there are some places that

emphasize it so much that they miss the rest of it, that Christ

is holy. In every loving interaction that

Jesus had, He never withheld the fact to someone that they had

sinned. There was a woman caught in

adultery. Interestingly enough, the man

was not caught. Why?

Because they were using her as bait to try to confuse and

entrap Jesus Christ. You think?

You're going to trap Jesus. Christ.

And So what does he? Do he causes all those men who

had stones in their hands to drop them and they walk away?

Jesus lovingly looks at her and says this Go and sin no more.

Why? Because he's also holy.

There's some churches. And some Christians who only

want to think about the love of God and they forget that Christ

is also holy. And there's some Christians.

Who only think that Christ is holy.

And forget the love. Of God.

And just like Cleopas and his friend, they miss the full

picture of who Jesus is. Christ is love, but.

He's also holy. Christ is grace, but he's also

the righteous judge. Christ is gentle, but he's also

the one before whom every knee will bow and through every

tongue will confess. Christ is the lion, but he's

also the Lamb. Amen.

Christ is all of these. And we cannot.

As Christians just get so caught up in the attributes that we

like and the pat us on the back to make us feel good and forget

that Christ is all and in all. And we have to have every single

one of those attributes be meaningful to us in our life.

And when Christ speaks to us about one of those, what do we

do? As the faithful hearers, we have

to listen. This is what he wants.

Of us. This is what he desires.

From us. We.

Do have problems with listening? We have problems.

With doing and if you don't think you're a or if you think

you're a good listener, I'd ask you Are you a good doer?

If you're not a good doer, then you're not a good listener.

Not my words. Those are Christ's words.

What do we need to do as believers here this morning when

the Prophet speaks through his word in our heart?

And again, I want to be very clear, I'm not talking about

myself. Capital P Profit meaning one we.

Saw who he was in. Deuteronomy And in the book of

Acts, my job as a preacher is to make sure I'm faithful to this

word and faithful to the prophet.

That's my job. But this morning, could you?

Say I'm a doer of the Word. I'm as faithful in being a doer

of the Word. As the prophet with.

A capital P is in giving the word.

Now I'm going to answer. This for you.

You are not and I am not. And that'll draw every believer

with an earnest heart to their knees, whether it's at their

knees physically or at their knees humbly within their heart

to say God. I know I have not honored the

Office of Profit as I should. So what I need to?

Do I see to listen to you? And when I listen, I do so much

better. The people of Israel.

They had a weird relationship with the prophets, didn't they?

Interestingly enough, they hated them.

They would kill them and then when they were gone a couple

generations later, they talked about how much they loved them.

Jesus pointed that out to. The people, by the way, he says.

You say you love them, but you don't listen to them.

What? Have you shame and say?

Oh, I love my church. Oh I I love my Bible but.

Then we never actually. Do what the whole point of

church and being a Bible believing Christians all about.

Points out the fallacy. Of where we are, don't just be

doers or hearers, be doers. Our prophet, Our prophet was and

is faithful. May we be faithful hearers and

doers of the Word as well. Thank you for listening.
