  1. Welcome to the Liberty Baptist Sermon Archives.

  2. The message you're about to hear was preached at Liberty Baptist

  3. Church in Easton, MA. You can find out more about us

  4. or contact us at mylibertybaptist.org or just

  5. look us up on Facebook. And now we hope that this

  6. message from God's Word will be a blessing to you.

  7. Job job number six. Speaking of the words we use,

  8. but words are powerful, aren't they?

  9. You know, there's the old saying, sticks and stones can

  10. break my bones, but names will never hurt me.

  11. That's one of the biggest lies ever perpetuated on being kind.

  12. Because there are things that somebody might have said to you

  13. when you were young and you can be in your elder years, but

  14. there could be something that someone said to you while you

  15. were young that you still remember as if they said it to

  16. you last week. I, I remember talking to people

  17. actually when we were in Holden going to visit some folks that

  18. had an issue, a controversy back with a previous pastor.

  19. And they were talking to me like it had happened maybe within the

  20. last few months. Just trying to figure out,

  21. because I think my brother Smith's been here for a couple

  22. years. How is that?

  23. And I realized as he's telling me about this, this happened

  24. like 2025 years ago, but he was talking about it like it

  25. happened just a few weeks ago. Because we can say that words

  26. don't matter. We can say that words don't

  27. hurt, but that's really just our own way of trying to maybe give

  28. ourselves a little bit of defense and to be able to look

  29. at, oh man, that's so close right there to to give ourselves

  30. a little bit of cover because words do matter.

  31. Now we often think about the words that people use towards us

  32. and, and why not? Because there are things that

  33. people have inflicted upon us. But yet at the same time, you

  34. remind ourselves, we're not in control of the words that people

  35. use with us. We are in control of the words

  36. that we use with other people. And so Job talks about this in

  37. Job chapter #6 a book full of words, the book of Job.

  38. And you say, well, isn't every book of the Bible a book of

  39. words in every book of book of words?

  40. Well, of course it is, just by its very nature.

  41. But at the same time, you got a lot of guys talking and a lot of

  42. people saying stuff. And a lot of stuff that's being

  43. said in the book of Job, honestly is just a bunch of

  44. malarkey. There's just not a lot that's

  45. being said there that is really biblically based, if you will,

  46. that honors God and is really uplifting what God wants to be

  47. said. And so I want us to look at just

  48. a couple words, you know, just a couple verses rather here they

  49. are words, but couple verses and give us a place to begin this

  50. morning. So Job chapter 6, beginning of

    Job 6 chapter mention

  51. verse #24 where it says, teach me and I will hold my tongue and

  52. cause me to understand wherein I have heard how forcible are

  53. right words. But what doth you're arguing

  54. reprove? Now look at that phrase right

  55. there at the beginning of verse #25 it says this.

  56. How forcible are right words? Maybe you've heard this verse

  57. before, How forcible are right words?

  58. I want to talk this morning to our Sunday school hour a little

  59. bit about using the right words and the power of right words.

  60. Now interestingly enough, that word forcible that is used there

  61. is only used once in the Bible, either forcible or some other

  62. version of that word. It's only really found here and

  63. it means exactly what you would think.

  64. The word forcible means powerful and could even mean violent.

  65. That not necessarily the violence is being perpetuated

  66. upon somebody, but that there is great, great power that comes

  67. behind whatever is being spoken of.

  68. And here it is the issue of words.

  69. Words have power. Words have great power.

  70. And because of that, we know that we must be careful in how

  71. we use them. Think about the common weapons

  72. of the day that you might have a license to be able to use.

  73. And we think about the safety and the care that comes along

  74. with that. As a, as a gun owner myself, now

  75. I realize it, You can't just be casual about how you handle

  76. something with such great power. I'm casual about a lot of things

  77. like, oh, you know, here's just kind of the way life is, you

  78. know, and just that's kind of the way I operate.

  79. But I would tell you when it comes those things, oh, I'm

  80. going to handle it properly. I'm going to use it properly.

  81. I'm going to point it properly. I'm going to care all those

  82. things. Why?

  83. Because there's a lot of power here.

  84. Think about our vehicles. What are you told?

  85. If you're under some sort of medication, what do you not do?

  86. Operate heavy machinery. Why?

  87. There's a lot of power at your disposal when you're behind the

  88. wheel. You got to make sure that you

  89. are being careful. How?

  90. Most people in Boston area aren't careful when they're

  91. behind the wheel. But the general principle is you

  92. need to make sure that you're careful.

  93. This is what we need to do. We are careful when it comes to

  94. the issues of weaponry. We be careful when the issues of

  95. a vehicle, but how careful are we really with our words?

  96. Because cars can be repaired, issues can things.

  97. These are types of things that cannot that that can be

  98. repaired, some of these things of life.

  99. But yet when it comes to the words, once they're gone, it's

  100. like toothpaste out of a tube. You can't put it back in.

  101. There's a lot of power that comes with words, but yet we're

  102. often very casual with the words we use.

  103. And here's the problem. We're very careful at monitoring

  104. the way other people speak to us, but we're not nearly as

  105. careful in the way that we use our words as well.

  106. Far as 1821 says this, death and life are in the power of the

  107. tongue, and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.

  108. I've heard this said before that your tongue is a divine healer

  109. or a devilish murderer. And boy, I could tell you that's

  110. the truth. And that's not my quote.

  111. That's really just coming from Proverbs 1821, that death and

  112. life are in the power of the tongue.

  113. We could go to, in fact, why don't we go there quickly to

  114. James chapter #3. We can go back to Job here in

  115. just a moment, but James chapter #3.

  116. There are many great verses in the Bible to talk about our

  117. words, but when you look at James chapter 3 of this

    James 3 chapter mention

  118. concentration of a discussion book of James near the end of

  119. your Bible, James chapter #3. And we'll begin in verse #1 And

  120. it says this, my brethren, be not many masters, knowing that

  121. we shall receive the greater condemnation for many things.

  122. We offend all. If any man offend not in Word

  123. that same as a perfect man and also able to bridle the whole

  124. body. Could I just give this a, a

  125. quick explanation for you? If you think that you don't have

  126. a problem with your tongue, then you're perfect.

  127. Are you perfect? No.

  128. Then you got a problem with your tongue.

  129. You see how that kind of works around right there?

  130. Again, we're very careful to be an inspector of other people's

  131. tongues, but not as quick to be an inspector with our own tongue

  132. first. 3 Behold, we put bits in the horse's mouths that they may

  133. obey us, and we turn about their whole body.

  134. Behold also the ships which though they be so great, are

  135. driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about the very small

  136. helm with a so ever the governor listed.

  137. So a big horse and I've not been around many horses.

  138. I've ridden a couple horses and wasn't a great experience all

  139. things considered, but I've been around enough of them to know

  140. this. That horse is going to go on its

  141. own unless it has a bit in the mouth.

  142. That little bit that's in its mouth controls that whole big

  143. body of the horse. A ship, again, not being someone

  144. that's been a whole lot on the sea, but I do know this, no

  145. matter how big the boat or the ship is that in proportion, that

  146. which is guiding the ship is very small.

  147. Oh, sure, it might be big on a cruise ship, but in proportion

  148. to the cruise ship, it's quite small.

  149. It might be very small on a pontoon boat, but a pontoon

  150. boat's also very small. It is very small compared to the

  151. size of the ship. Now, why is Jane talking about

  152. that? Because he's interested in horse

  153. racing and because he's interested in sailing ships?

  154. No, because he's about to make a comparison.

  155. Verse #5 Even so, the tongue is a little member, boy.

  156. It's small in proportion to our whole body, isn't it?

  157. And boasted great things. Behold how great a matter a

  158. little little fire kindleth. The tongue is a fire, a world of

  159. iniquity. This is verse 6.

  160. So is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the

  161. whole body, and set it on fire the course of nature.

  162. And is set on the fire of hell. For every kind of beasts, and a

  163. birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea is tamed, and

  164. hath been tamed of mankind. But the tongue can no man tame

  165. is an unruly evil full of deadly poison.

  166. We'll just stop right there for a moment.

  167. That tongue is very small, but it causes a lot of problems.

  168. It causes great problems. And James makes mention here of

  169. the idea that there's a lot of animals that are wild that have

  170. been tamed. And think about the fact that

  171. pretty much every animal that you could find on earth in some

  172. form or fashion has been tamed, even if it's still wild.

  173. You know, you can tame a lion, but you have to have respect for

  174. the lion. So you can tame a snake in the

  175. sense that a snake can be used to sometimes harvest venom and

  176. different things like that. But you better be careful around

  177. that snake. You may have tamed it, you may

  178. have it under control, but you better be careful.

  179. If that is true about the animal world, understand this the

  180. tongue no man can tank. You say, well, mine's under

  181. control, then you've deluded yourself.

  182. Now we can have more spirit leadership in our life than

  183. maybe others do by the grace of God, but on our own, listen, you

  184. cannot tame the tongue. And it continues verse 9, there

  185. with blessed we God, even the Father, and there with cursed we

  186. men, which are made after the similitude of God.

  187. Could I put it this way? Don't come to church and saying

  188. how great thou art and then go out of the church and talk in a

  189. way that does not honor the great God.

  190. We can't come in and talk about holy, holy, holy and use unholy

  191. words and we leave. It doesn't make sense to be able

  192. to do that, but this is the way that we can be if we're not

  193. careful. Out of the same mouth proceeded

  194. blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought

  195. not so to be doth a fountain setting forth at the same place

  196. Sweetwater and bitter can the fig tree, my brethren, bear

  197. olive berries can either a vine fig?

  198. So can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.

  199. Who is a wise man and dude with knowledge among you, Let him

  200. show out of a good conversation his works with meekness and

  201. wisdom. But if you have bitter and envy

  202. and strife in your hearts, glory not and lie not against the

  203. truth. You can't have these two worlds.

  204. One has to be in control of your mouth.

  205. And in the end, James is going to talk about, and we'll take

  206. our leave of this text here in a moment, but James is really

  207. talking about the issue of the mouth comes down to really the

  208. issues of the heart. As the Bible tells us, out of

  209. the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaketh.

  210. Pastor, if I use, if I use my words like you're saying what?

  211. Hold on, that's not what I'm saying.

  212. But if I just to use the argument, if I use my words like

  213. you are saying, Pastor, the world will run over me.

  214. The world will walk right across my back.

  215. I'm going to be a pushover in this world.

  216. I don't see anywhere in this text or anywhere in the Bible

  217. where someone cannot be able to defend their rights or to be

  218. able to defend that which is right.

  219. You don't have to roll over, but you don't have to act like the

  220. world when you're doing those things.

  221. Say, well, how on earth am I supposed to thread that needle

  222. of making sure I defend honor or say things that are right or

  223. make sure my rights are not being trodden over by someone at

  224. A at a store or by someone who's trying to take advantage of me?

  225. How do I do that? Here's the only way, by being

  226. led by the Spirit, because it's not easy.

  227. It's not easy at all. I can tell you stories this

  228. morning that would be probably pretty embarrassing, all things

  229. considered, of ways that I have spoken to somebody because maybe

  230. I was even in the right and how I was being handled, but then I

  231. took it wrong by using my words inappropriately.

  232. You say, oh, pastor, did you cuss?

  233. You know, you don't have to cuss and you could still use wrong

  234. words. I think sometimes we just

  235. default to the fact that as long as you don't cuss, then you must

  236. be using right words. And there's a lot of ways to use

  237. words wrongly and still not use coarse language.

  238. Now, should a Christian use coarse language?

  239. Those shouldn't be in our vocabulary.

  240. Say pastor, I'm working them out.

  241. And as new believers, sometimes that is the way that we have to

  242. work them out. But I would say this, keep

  243. working them out. Don't stop working them out.

  244. I, I cussed like I was like a sailor when I was a teenager,

  245. not at school, not around Steve Smith, but I did and I got saved

  246. and I realized I'm not supposed to be doing that anymore.

  247. By the way, no one told me that. I just realized I don't think

  248. this is honoring to God what I'm saying.

  249. And it was hard for a while now, not so hard.

  250. You know why? Because it's been eradicated

  251. from the mental dictionary that I have of words that I'm

  252. reaching for when I hit my thumb with a hammer.

  253. Which the way I solve that is I don't use a hammer all right,

  254. But so it makes it a lot easier. Amen.

  255. So, so don't get in the ID even this morning.

  256. Well, as long as I don't cuss, as long as I don't curse, then

  257. I'm probably doing pretty well with my tongue.

  258. You can curse someone without using foul language.

  259. By meaning this literally cursing is is wishing I'll upon

  260. someone. I'm not talking about a hex.

  261. I'm not talking about anything like that.

  262. But you can wish I'll upon someone and not use profanity.

  263. And So what do we need to do? Our words are powerful.

  264. Let's go back to James James chapter 6 and we'll just kind of

  265. give you an overview of the book of James or sorry job job

    Job 6 chapter mention

  266. chapter 6. My apology.

  267. If you're looking for James Chapter 6, you're going to look

  268. a while job chapter 6. My apologies.

    Job 6 chapter mention

  269. How forcible are right words now why is that coming up in

  270. conversation? Well, you can go back to chapter

  271. #1 and you would find that in chapter #1 that Job is tested,

  272. that Satan comes before the Lord and says Job is only righteous

  273. because you've been good to him. And God says, well, I give you

  274. permission to do thus and thus to him.

  275. And in chapter #1 he found out that he lost his children and he

  276. lost almost all of his possessions.

  277. I mean, Can you imagine in one day this is what happens to him?

  278. And, and in chapter #1 at the end of the chapter, he basically

  279. says, this naked came I from my mother's womb, and naked while I

  280. return thither said the Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh

  281. away. Blessed be the name of the Lord.

  282. Powerful statement. And I don't believe that he was

  283. just saying that in a way to try to convince himself.

  284. Now, surely he was hurting, surely he was going through

  285. great sorrow, but he had a faith in the Lord, and that was going

  286. to carry him through. But then you get into chapter #2

  287. and Satan says this skin for skin, if I touch his body, he's

  288. going to curse you. And the Lord allowed that to be

  289. able to happen as well. Well what happened Satan rather

  290. Job's wife comes up to him and says curse God and die.

  291. Now a lot of people get real angry at Job's wife, but you

  292. realize that everything happened to Job happened to her as well

  293. that she was going through great grief.

  294. Now there's some that have taught I don't know the

  295. necessary I subscribe to this, but I see where they're coming

  296. from. They believe that she said this

  297. at a mercy to him in the sense that if you curse God, then you

  298. will be taken by the Lord, and that would be a sweet mercy

  299. compared to what you're going through right now.

  300. I don't know if that's the case or not.

  301. I know that Job's wife was a woman who was grieving herself,

  302. and I don't stand in judgment of her other than to say that's not

  303. the answer at that moment to curse God and die.

  304. But then at the end of the chapter, why don't you go back

  305. to chapter #2 I know I said chapter 6, but go back to

  306. chapter #2 look at verse #11 chapter 2.

  307. Verse #11 just a few pages back. It says Now when Job's three

  308. friends heard of all this evil that was come upon him, they

  309. came, Everyone from his own place.

  310. Eliphaz the team, a knight, and Bildad the shoe height, and

  311. Zophar the Nemethite. For they had made an appointment

  312. together to come and mourn with him and to comfort him.

  313. I'll stop here just a moment. Does anyone know how tall Bildad

  314. was? This might seem like it's out of

  315. left field, but anyone know how tall Bill Dad was?

  316. No, he's pretty short. He was a shoe height.

  317. Look right there, says Bill Dad. The shoe height.

  318. All right, I've been sitting on that one for days, folks.

  319. Come on. Give me something here.

  320. All right. So I'm still glad you're here

  321. today, Tom. All right.

  322. And when they lifted up, I was hoping for more than that.

  323. And when they lifted up their eyes afar off and knew him not,

  324. they didn't even recognize this, how much his body was filled

  325. with these swords. They even recognize them at

  326. first. They lift up their voice, they

  327. wept, they rent everyone his mantle, sprinkled dust upon

  328. their heads towards heaven. So they sat down with him upon

  329. the ground, seven days and seven nights, and none spake a word

  330. unto him, for they saw that his grief was very great.

  331. The very best thing that these friends did was the seven days

  332. they sat there with him and said nothing because as soon as they

  333. open their mouth, things went downhill quickly.

  334. Can I give you some free advice on how to help people?

  335. There are times when there are people who are greatly grieving.

  336. There are times that people are going through great sorrow.

  337. You know, oftentimes they don't need a sermon.

  338. They don't need a lecture. Particularly in those very raw

  339. initial moments. You know, the very best thing

  340. you can do is sit and listen. And these men sat and listened

  341. and this was the best it got because as soon as Eliphaz and

  342. Bill dad and so far and another man named Ella who that will

  343. come later, ended up opening their mouth, things got bad very

  344. quickly for Joe. Well, why is that?

  345. Well, in chapter 3, Job opens his mouth and cursed his day.

  346. Now very carefully, he does not curse God.

  347. He curses his day. He curses the day he was born,

  348. but he was very careful to not curse the Lord meaning this.

  349. He spoke I'll of his own life. He spoke I'll of of the way that

  350. he was born, but yet he refused to curse God in all of this.

  351. Now these friends should have been discerning enough to

  352. understand this, but yet they immediately pounced on him.

  353. And so first of all, I wanted to see this morning that there's

  354. the power of wrong words. There's the power of wrong

  355. words. And these come from the friends.

  356. Chapter 4 and chapter 5 leading up to chapter #6 Eliphaz starts

  357. to speak. And Eliphaz basically says this.

  358. The reason this is all happened to you is because you were in

  359. great sin and the Lord's got you.

  360. So all you need to do is repent and you will do better.

  361. Now, how does Eliphaz know this? The answer is he does not know

  362. this. It would be the equivalent of me

  363. walking into a hospital room, and I visited a lot of you in

  364. the hospital room over the years.

  365. But it would be the equivalent of me going to your hospital

  366. room and saying something like this.

  367. You know the reason you're here. You got hidden sin in your life.

  368. He didn't even know what it was. It was hidden sin in his life.

  369. You had hidden sin in your life and this is the only reason

  370. you're here now. Are there times that God brings

  371. calamity into our life because there's hidden sin in our life?

  372. Yes. Hebrews chapter 12.

    Hebrews 12 chapter mention

  373. Go read it. Later you'll find out that if

  374. you are a child of God, He chastises his own.

  375. But it's very presumptuous for me to be able to walk into a

  376. hotel, hotel room, a hospital room.

  377. I don't know why if you're sick, if you're in a hotel room, but

  378. they walk in the hospital room and say, hey, Vince, you know

  379. why you're here. There's some things going on in

  380. your life. I don't even know what they are,

  381. but I know they're there. Of course you wouldn't be here.

  382. That's bad doctrine. That's bad teaching to be and

  383. presumption for a pastor to be able to do something like that.

  384. But Elifaz felt the need to be able to tell Joe, this is what

  385. your problem is. And here's the issue.

  386. Elifaz was wrong. We know that because.

  387. The beginning of the book was all about how Job served the

  388. Lord in a way that other people weren't.

  389. So we know this is the issue. God removes the curtain of

  390. heaven, if you will, for just a moment to allow us to know the

  391. back story of what's taking place.

  392. Eliphaz doesn't know, and so immediately takes a man who's

  393. down and pounds him further. This is a problem.

  394. Which brings us to chapter 6 where Job says this.

  395. How forcible are right words? The old saying is true.

  396. If you don't have anything good to say, don't say it at all.

  397. What does Satan do? He cast doubt.

  398. What does Satan do? His very first half.

  399. God said questioning the Lord. Questioning could even put it

  400. this way, questioning truth itself.

  401. That's what he does. And we have to be careful that

  402. we don't use the wrong words. There are many people in the

  403. Bible who had an opportunity to take someone who is going the

  404. wrong direction and with the right words bring them back.

  405. I think of of Amnon, his friend Jonadab.

  406. Remember it says, but Amnon had a friend sad verse in the Bible.

  407. But Amnon had a friend when that friend should have said what's

  408. the matter with you? You're not thinking right.

  409. He said this if you want to get this done, here's what you do.

  410. David went to his advisors. Who's that woman on the on the

  411. roof there? They should have said, O king,

  412. please don't, don't, don't ask any further.

  413. Don't, don't inquire of who she is.

  414. But what do they say? Well, this is who she is.

  415. We'll fetch her for if you want. Later on there'd be a king named

  416. Rehoboam. Rehoboam had the Kingdom come to

  417. him. And they said, will you relieve

  418. some of the taxes that Solomon has placed upon us?

  419. And he went to the old man. I like that he went to the old

  420. man. Especially the closer I get to

  421. that. I went to the old man and and

  422. the old man said this, just relieve the taxes a little bit.

  423. You do that, they will serve you forever.

  424. But then he went to his friends. His friends had lived in the

  425. palace with him. His friends were insulated from

  426. reality. And they said this.

  427. You go to those people and say this.

  428. You think my bad, my dad was bad, I will be worse his the

  429. power of his loins would be like the power of my middle finger

  430. coming upon you. Meaning this.

  431. You thought he was strong, I'm stronger.

  432. You thought he was bad, I'm badder.

  433. And you know what? The people said bye, bye.

  434. And the Kingdom was split for the next couple 100 years.

  435. What is it? The wrong word?

  436. It's said wrong. And something like that can last

  437. in someone's life far beyond what you can imagine.

  438. A few years ago, there's a young man at our at Westgate.

  439. Both Smith and I taught in the Christian School there, and I

  440. know he would admit the same thing, that that wasn't Our

  441. Calling. We did it because, well, we were

  442. told to do it. Now, I, there were times I

  443. really enjoyed teaching. There's a lot of times I really

  444. didn't enjoy teaching, but there were times that I enjoyed

  445. teaching. But I remember not understanding

  446. classroom management. I were to understand, I didn't

  447. even know what a teacher's guide was or how to do the lessons

  448. until like two or three years in when someone showed me, Brother

  449. Shaw showed me, have you been doing this?

  450. You know, if you've been following the lessons, I said,

  451. you mean there's a book that tells us what lessons to teach

  452. every day. I thought I was supposed to

  453. figure that out on my own. So I was, so it was unreal.

  454. I had no idea what was going on, but I remember probably 5 or 6

  455. years ago, maybe somewhere around there, I went back to

  456. Tampa and I saw a young man there who I taught and if I told

  457. you the name, you know exactly what I was talking about.

  458. I went to him and we're talking about the old days, you know,

  459. back at Westgate Christian School.

  460. He's graduated, he's in business now.

  461. He's doing pretty well for himself.

  462. And he says, he said, I remember something you told me when we

  463. were in school and I immediately got, So what was that?

  464. And he says, he said, I, I was really acting up in class and I

  465. was acting up for a long time. I can't believe I'm telling you

  466. this. I think I may have said this

  467. before church. He said, I, I, I, I, I was

  468. acting up. I wouldn't stop.

  469. I wouldn't listen. This young man's Hispanic.

  470. And so I went up to him and I'm also Hispanic, Rivero, you know.

  471. And so I went up to him and I knocked him on the head like

  472. that. And I said you speak into

  473. English. I said, I am so sorry.

  474. I don't know. No, it's funny.

  475. Oh, it's funny. I only told you because I said

  476. it's not funny. What was I, what was I thinking?

  477. What what was going on that day of my life that I would even

  478. think that that was something that was funny that that, that,

  479. that I would have treated you that way.

  480. I know it is really funny. It wasn't.

  481. I am so sorry. And this is what came to my

  482. mind. I didn't even think about that.

  483. I said it, It was gone and I went about my day.

  484. He had been thinking about it for the last five, 6-7 years.

  485. I don't know. Wow.

  486. The wrong words said at the wrong time.

  487. You may not even think about it. Someone else would think about

  488. it for a long time. And you know this is true

  489. because the opposite is true. You've had this inflicted upon

  490. your life. And before you get too caught up

  491. on me, listen. We've all done this in ways that

  492. we wish we could take back. And I wish that was the worst

  493. thing that I ever said. I'm sure it wasn't.

  494. I'm sure it wasn't. But what have we done with our

  495. mouths? That the power of right words is

  496. great, but the power of wrong words is also great when you

  497. take our words and line them up with Scripture.

  498. Words that speak health. Words that speak truth but yet

  499. that speak health. Words that help lead people to

  500. repentance if there's problems, but words that help build people

  501. up to become more like Christ. Words that even when there are

  502. issues that are handled in ways that are Christ like and filled

  503. with the Spirit. Oh, there's power and wrong

  504. words. But #2 I also see this.

  505. There's power and right words. There's power and right words.

  506. Joab in chapter #6 reminds Eliphaz and his two friends

  507. about the power of right words. And they're going to go back and

  508. forth, chapter after chapter after chapter.

  509. Proverbs 25, verse 11 says a word fitly spoken is like apples

    Proverbs 25:11

  510. of gold in pictures of silver. Think about the beauty of a

  511. great painting. Now imagine the amount of money,

  512. of the value of a great painting with gold and silver.

  513. You know to have it framed in such a way, the power of words

  514. fitly spoken or more beautiful than that, what they can do to

  515. someone's life. The Proverbs 12/18 says the

  516. tongue of the wise is health. Ephesians 429 says that our

  517. words can minister grace to the hearers.

  518. How do we give grace to someone else?

  519. Often it starts with our mouth. Often it starts with the way we

  520. talk to someone else. The right word spoken at the

  521. right time could save someone's life, if not physically,

  522. spiritually. James chapter 5 talks about the

    James 5 chapter mention

  523. brethren being able to watch out for one another to help one

  524. another in our times of need. Well, how does that happen?

  525. It happens when you come with right words, not with

  526. self-righteous words, but words of saying, I'm not saying I'm

  527. better than you. I have my own struggles, but

  528. there's something that I'm kind of down the road a little bit

  529. further in my Christian life that I, I want to, I want to

  530. mention to you, and I've had this happen in my life before

  531. where people have come to me. It happened when I was a

  532. teenager. I can think of very specific

  533. people that cared about me that would come to me and say, you're

  534. not doing right here. This is what you need to do.

  535. There have been people since I've been an adult and there's

  536. been people since I've been a pastor who've come to me and

  537. said, I don't think this is right now.

  538. I'll be honest with you, now that I'm a pastor, if I'm not

  539. careful, I can kind of bow up a little bit.

  540. Well, you know who I am, You know who I am a Sinner saved by

  541. the grace of God like anyone else and we ought to be able to

  542. handle. Now if you come to somebody

  543. about a need, you handle it with the right spirit yourself.

  544. But at the same time we should be able to with one another, be

  545. able to help with it, not in a spirit.

  546. Again of self righteousness. Christ makes that clear.

  547. You better take care of your own business in your eye before you

  548. take care of someone else's business.

  549. But when that does happen, can you use right words?

  550. The right words can make a huge difference and, and to be clear,

  551. how forcible our right words is not about the number of the

  552. words. It's about the power of the

  553. words that are used. In fact, sometimes we use so

  554. many words we dilute the power of the words because we keep

  555. talking. You say, well, if a 40 minute

  556. sermon is good, then an hour sermon is better.

  557. Actually, nobody says that, never mind.

  558. But but think about 40 minutes of truth is good.

  559. An hour ought to be better. Maybe not.

  560. I've heard some pretty powerful sermons log in right at 30

  561. minutes. Well, I mean, the pastor's not

  562. really doing well. The power of the word is there,

  563. and you leave it there so that people understand and not dilute

  564. it just by speaking more and more and more and more, and by

  565. the time you're done, people don't even remember what you

  566. said 30 minutes ago. There's something to that.

  567. There's power and right words. There's the power of the wrong

  568. words that came from the friends.

  569. There's power of the right words that comes through Job's

  570. humility. But also Speaking of the word of

  571. God, there's power in perfect words, the power of perfect

  572. words. Say pastor, where were their

  573. perfect words in Job? Well, after the four friends

  574. so-called had their peace. Well, God said his peace and

  575. you're likely aware of what took place next is that when God

  576. spoke, he didn't even deal with those four guys.

  577. He deals right with Job and he says, were you there when I and

  578. starts asking him questions because a lot of times if we're

  579. not careful, we can play armchair quarterback with God.

  580. God, why are you doing this to me?

  581. Why is this happening to me? I've been serving you.

  582. I thought you were going to do more for me.

  583. And God just asked him some questions.

  584. It's almost as if God says this, I'll answer your questions if

  585. you can answer mine. And he asked some questions that

  586. Job's never going to answer because these are questions that

  587. came from eternity past. And Job is so overwhelmed by the

  588. words of God that he says at the end of the book, he says, I'm a

  589. worm. Who am I?

  590. Because just like Isaiah in Isaiah chapter 6, when you truly

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  591. see God for who you are, for who he is, you see yourself or who

  592. you are. A lot of our problems are just

  593. coming down to the fact that we don't see God like we should

  594. because when we see him high and lifted up, we realize how low we

  595. have gone. And Job looks at his own life

  596. and says, I can't, I can't answer this.

  597. Psalm 19, verse 7. The law of the Lord is perfect,

    Psalms 19:7

  598. converting the soul. The testimony of the Lord is

  599. sure making wise the simple. Nothing could have been more

  600. powerful than God. God's words, a whole book full

  601. of words again, just people talking and talking and talking

  602. and talking and talking and talking and God speaks and

  603. everyone's quiet. Why?

  604. Because God has the last word for four chapters.

  605. Do you know, can you do this? Were you there?

  606. Job says I was not, I cannot and I do not know.

  607. So I leave this in your capable hands.

  608. Lord, the words that we need every day to make sure our words

  609. are right. Are these perfect words that we

  610. have here, the word of God. You want to make sure that your

  611. mouth is right. Start every day in the Word of

  612. God, because the Word of God will remind us who we are and

  613. what we need to be now every day when you read the Bible, it's

  614. not going to necessarily be about your mouth, but just when

  615. you read more about the holiness of God, you read more of

  616. examples of people who use words rightly and wrongly.

  617. You should start to realize I need to be careful in how I

  618. talk. I need to be careful with what I

  619. say. The words we need the most every

  620. day are the perfect, never changing words of God.

  621. What does it say in Second Timothy 316?

  622. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and it's

  623. probably for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for

  624. instruction and righteousness. The man of God may be perfect,

  625. thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

  626. And I love that verse and the reason why those verses, the

  627. reason why doctrine, that's what's right for reproof, that's

  628. what's wrong for correction. That's how to make things right

  629. when something's wrong and instruction and righteousness.

  630. That's once you make it right, how do you stay right?

  631. The Word of God tells what's right, what's wrong, how to get

  632. right, how to stay right. What more do you need?

  633. That's everything of the Christian life.

  634. And that's why Paul tells us that that everything that we

  635. need that pertains to life and godliness is found in this book.

  636. The answers are all here. And if you want to have right

  637. words, you got to be in the word.

  638. If you want to speak rightly, you must have communion with the

  639. one who always speaks rightly because he is right and he is

  640. holy and he is just the powerful words of God.

  641. It's what we need. What's the end of the story, The

  642. book of Job, you might ask? Well, again, God does not

  643. directly address the four men. He addresses them through Job.

  644. And interestingly enough, he doesn't mention Ella, who at

  645. all, because Ella, who is the young man, he kind of swooped in

  646. and he was probably more foolish than the rest of them because he

  647. thought he was young and he knew more than these old guys.

  648. And God doesn't even address him.

  649. It's like he wasn't even there. But Job, God works through Job

  650. for the men. And he says this about the three

  651. friends. He says this, Job, you make

  652. sacrifice on their behalf. You help them get right.

  653. And I believe that was for one very clear reason.

  654. It was to show those men that God didn't approve of the way

  655. they spoke. Job was real.

  656. He was raw. He didn't say everything right,

  657. but it came from a heart that wanted to be right with the

  658. Lord. That doesn't mean because you

  659. want to have a heart that's right with the Lord, you're

  660. allowed to say whatever you want.

  661. God addressed Him on those things.

  662. We got to be careful about that. Just because we believe we're on

  663. the side of the angels doesn't mean we get to say whatever we

  664. want because we're on the side of the angels.

  665. Well, I'm doing right, so I'm going to, I'm going to, I'm

  666. going to say whatever I want, and I'm doing it for the Lord.

  667. Well, you're probably more doing it for yourself because it feels

  668. good, let's be honest, than doing it for the Lord.

  669. In the end, Job received more than he had before.

  670. Why was that? It was God authenticating the

  671. way that he had handled a very difficult situation.

  672. We got a lot of issues with our words.

  673. We think about it and take inventory of it.

  674. There are probably things we're embarrassed about with the

  675. things that we have said over the years.

  676. You flew off the handle of the conversation.

  677. Someone got your goat at the store and you put them in their

  678. place. You put that 16 year old

  679. teenager making minimum wage in their place.

  680. The coffee wasn't right and so you went back in and you told

  681. them off. Someone at work had it coming

  682. and eventually you told them what they needed to hear, quote

  683. UN quote at home. Isn't it strange that sometimes

  684. we're most casual with our words?

  685. That the people we're the closest to?

  686. That seems backwards, doesn't it?

  687. It seems like we should probably be more casual with strangers

  688. and more careful with the people we live with in our own home.

  689. But sometimes we are the loosest with our lips, with the people

  690. that live in our own home. Maybe the person you made vows

  691. to, to love and honor and cherish.

  692. And yet those words that come out aren't pleasing to God at

  693. all. How forcible are right words and

  694. every marriage that has not made it.

  695. I will be honest with you. There's somewhere along the line

  696. there are words that were not right.

  697. I'm not saying that was you if that this is your situation.

  698. I'm not saying it's all one it both sides.

  699. What I'm saying is there were not helpful words in there

  700. because somewhere along the line someone with helpful words

  701. should have said we got to get this right.

  702. We got to fix this. What I'm saying is words

  703. destroy. But, and we'll end here this

  704. this morning, words also build up.

  705. They build up. They heal marriages that are on

  706. the brink. They heal relationships with

  707. children. They can heal a situation that

  708. might be on the brink and they gets pulled back.

  709. You could have somebody that's about to blow up and the right

  710. words might help them to see how you take a breath and calm down.

  711. How forcible are words? Yes.

  712. That's not what the Bible says. How forcible are right words?

  713. And whether it's in a church, whether it's in a home, whether

  714. it's at your workplace, whether it's at the fast food place,

  715. whether it's with the person that visits your home dropping

  716. off mail or packages or whatever it is, wherever, whenever, use

  717. write words. And when you don't because you

  718. won't all the time, that's not an excuse, it's just reality.

  719. When you don't ask the Lord to forgive you, ask Him to help you

  720. the next time. Ask the Lord to help you.

  721. Have your tongue to be guided by the Spirit, the fruit of the

  722. Spirit, Lovejoy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness,

  723. goodness, faith, meekness, temperance.

  724. Against such there is no law. This should be coming out of the

  725. mouth of those who are Spirit LED.

  726. So let's be people who understand how forcible right

  727. words are. Thank you for listening to the

  728. sermon from the pulpit of Liberty Baptist Church.
