  1. Can y'all hear me?

  2. I'll never forget one time I was preaching up in Rocky Mount

  3. and the auditorium held 1,700 people

  4. and as I got up behind the pulpit, Jeff, my mic went out.

  5. You can laugh, yeah, it was funny.

  6. For y'all, it was funny.

  7. But by the time I finished that sermon, I could not talk.

  8. That's how loud I had to speak.

  9. Just want to make sure you can hear me.

  10. If you can hear me, wave your hands.

  11. Okay, praise the Lord.

  12. It was our joy to serve the Lord Jesus Christ

  13. and it was the humor of God, I believe God has a sense of humor,

  14. that he would call an American pastor after 27 years of ministry

  15. to go to Asia and to work with, I think,

  16. the finest missionaries in the whole world.

  17. Jonathan and Kelly, where are y'all?

  18. Y'all are here somewhere, aren't you?

  19. Serving with them.

  20. They were our FPO cluster leaders in Richmond, Virginia.

  21. Little did I know that we would fall in love with these families

  22. that we served with and they become your family overseas.

  23. The Lord allowed us the privilege.

  24. Let me just say this.

  25. We did not know what we were doing.

  26. We were being trained by the greatest missionaries, I think, in the world.

  27. I was an American pastor.

  28. I had American context and it was so different over in India.

  29. And the Lord put us on.

  30. Our church adopted an unreached, unengaged people group

  31. called the Mahar Koli, the Koli people.

  32. And all we knew was that they lived along the coast of Mumbai.

  33. They were fishermen, we thought, at that time.

  34. And we went.

  35. Barbara and I went.

  36. Barbara was just coming off of having her kidney removed from kidney cancer.

  37. Four months after her kidney was removed,

  38. we were on the ground in India as missionaries.

  39. And so life was moving fast for us.

  40. And again, I'm not trying to sound humble.

  41. I'm telling you the truth.

  42. It was just really, you know, I mean, God gives you an assignment.

  43. Go reach a people that no one's reaching.

  44. And so, you know, just go do it.

  45. And we really had to pray and trust God a lot

  46. and rely on our leadership

  47. and rely on the Holy Spirit and the Word of God to lead us.

  48. And the Lord, because of the victories that we saw,

  49. we saw our people group removed from the UUPG list,

  50. which was the greatest sense of victory that I had in my service to the Lord.

  51. They were removed from the Unreached Unengaged People Group.

  52. I remember being in Delhi,

  53. Jonathan talking to Joey Gordy at the transit house.

  54. And I said, Joey, I'm looking for our people group on the list,

  55. and they're not there.

  56. I mean, is there a mistake?

  57. Where's our people?

  58. And he said, oh, you haven't heard.

  59. They're engaged.

  60. I said, oh, tell me who.

  61. I want to know who these people are that have engaged them

  62. because I want to partner.

  63. I mean, I want to learn from them.

  64. He said, it's you.

  65. And so I said, it's me and Barb.

  66. And we had started doing ministry among the Maharkoli,

  67. who are rice farmers in the mountains of Tane District

  68. in northeastern Maharashtra.

  69. And there's so many stories that I could tell you.

  70. When I was here last year,

  71. I had the joy of being in that Sunday school class,

  72. and I got to share some of the stories of how I almost got beat,

  73. beat, almost had my legs broken

  74. by a village leader who was very upset with us sharing the gospel.

  75. I could tell you how the very first converts from that tribal group

  76. came to know the Lord Jesus Christ.

  77. I could tell you about how the Lord led us to partner

  78. with an Indian church planning ministry.

  79. I could tell you about how my daughter got sick,

  80. and we had to come home, and my head was spinning.

  81. And I didn't know what in the world the Lord was doing

  82. because there was fruit, and there was success on the field.

  83. And now here we are back in the States with our very sick daughter.

  84. I just did not know what in the world God was up to.

  85. And the Lord led us to resign,

  86. which was the hardest thing I've done in a long time,

  87. to resign a work that we loved,

  88. to leave a team that we loved,

  89. the Mumbai IMB team there in Mumbai, India.

  90. And now to see my national partner

  91. doing such a great job in the field,

  92. the guy that we discipled, that we raised up,

  93. is now the face of the ministry.

  94. And I've talked to the couple that replaced us,

  95. and they're working in that same ministry, seeing fruit.

  96. Just got a Facebook message

  97. that they had done an evangelism,

  98. an event among this Unreached People group,

  99. and they had people that came to Christ,

  100. and now they're planning discipleship and church planning.

  101. So I could tell you all those things,

  102. but I don't have time.

  103. So I've got to share with you

  104. what the Lord burdened my heart about,

  105. about coming to this missions conference,

  106. what message the Lord put on my heart,

  107. and it's to the church corporately.

  108. First of all, I want to say to you

  109. that the Lord is a passionate God.

  110. God has a passion for the world.

  111. In John 3, verse 16,

    John 3:16

  112. we see the passion of God in this verse

  113. that we all know so well.

  114. In fact, I don't even think you need to look

  115. in your Bible at John 3, 16,

  116. because you probably have it memorized.

  117. Many of the children here could probably quote John 3, 16.

  118. But in John 3, 16,

  119. we begin to see the passion of God

  120. for this lost world,

  121. where John writes,

  122. for God so loved the world

  123. that he gave his only gotten son.

  124. You see, it doesn't say for God loved the world,

  125. but that he so loved the world.

  126. And that little word so speaks of the passion of God

  127. and the willingness and the extent of God,

  128. how far God was willing to go

  129. to show his love to this lost and dying world

  130. that he gave his only begotten son,

  131. that whoever believes in him shall not perish,

  132. but have everlasting life.

  133. And I want us to connect this morning

  134. with the passion of the God that we claim to worship.

  135. The heavenly father that we love,

  136. that we know in our heart,

  137. I want us to connect and to touch his heart

  138. for this lost world.

  139. Maybe your heart's like mine,

  140. and we need to have our hearts stirred this morning.

  141. Will you quote John 3, 16 with me out loud

  142. if you feel comfortable doing that?

  143. For God so loved the world

  144. that he gave his only begotten son,

  145. that whoever believes in him

  146. should not perish,

  147. but have everlasting life.

  148. You see, God is a passionate God.

  149. His heart is for the world.

  150. Look what 2 Peter 3, verse 9 says,

    2 Peter 3:9

  151. that the Lord's not slack concerning his promises,

  152. some men count slackness,

  153. but is long-suffering toward us,

  154. not willing that any should perish,

  155. but that all should come to repentance.

  156. Do you see your father's heart?

  157. That he's patient with this world.

  158. The only reason Jesus Christ

  159. has not returned to this world

  160. is because of God's love and suffering

  161. for the lost of this world.

  162. He wants all men everywhere to repent.

  163. He's not willing that any should perish,

  164. but that they should repent.

  165. Look what Mark 16 says.

  166. Jesus said to his followers,

  167. to his disciples,

  168. go into all the world and preach the gospel.

  169. The King James says to every creature,

  170. a better translation is to all people.

  171. Jesus was saying,

  172. go and preach the gospel to all people.

  173. Who is he speaking to?

  174. He's speaking to followers,

  175. those like us that believe in him

  176. as Lord and Savior.

  177. This command is to us,

  178. to go into the world,

  179. to take the gospel to all people.

  180. You see, the passion of God

  181. reveals the plan of God.

  182. And the plan of God

  183. is for the world to hear

  184. the gospel of his son and be saved.

  185. Look what Acts 1.8 says.

  186. But you shall receive power

  187. when the Holy Spirit has come upon you.

  188. And you shall be witnesses to me

  189. in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria

  190. and to the ends of the earth.

  191. Notice the geographical nature of God's plan.

  192. We understand his passion

  193. that he so loves this world.

  194. But look at the geographical nature

  195. of his strategy, his plan.

  196. He said that we would be witnesses

  197. in our own Jerusalem.

  198. Jerusalem is where they lived.

  199. It's where the disciples were living.

  200. It's their own hometown.

  201. It's their pickings, South Carolina.

  202. It's the upstate of South Carolina.

  203. That's what this literally means

  204. is that we would be witnesses

  205. in our own locality.

  206. But he didn't end there.

  207. The geographic strategy continues.

  208. He said that you would be witnesses

  209. into the region in which you live

  210. and the nation in which you live

  211. in Judea and Samaria.

  212. And then you would be witnesses

  213. to the ends of the earth.

  214. Now, the problem with most churches

  215. that I have seen

  216. is that we tend to focus

  217. only on local missions,

  218. which is great.

  219. We should be a witness to Pickens.

  220. We should be a witness to Easley

  221. and to the upstate of South Carolina.

  222. But it doesn't end there.

  223. The command of our Lord Jesus Christ

  224. is to take the gospel

  225. to the ends of the earth,

  226. to those who've never heard his name.

  227. You see, if you look at these verses,

  228. you begin to see a pattern

  229. where Jesus, in his last words,

  230. before he leaves the world,

  231. before he leaves his disciples,

  232. before he ascends up in the clouds to heaven,

  233. he gives his followers this mandate

  234. to go to the nations,

  235. to make disciples.

  236. And here in Acts 1-8,

  237. to do work in your own locality,

  238. your own Jerusalem,

  239. your own community, your city,

  240. and then to go into your region,

  241. your nation,

  242. and to the uttermost parts of the earth.

  243. So we see God's passion

  244. reveals God's plan.

  245. And God's plan is not just local.

  246. God's plan is global.

  247. Look what Matthew 28, 19-20 says.

  248. Jesus speaking to his disciples,

  249. he says,

  250. Go, therefore,

  251. and make disciples of all the nations.

  252. Now when we hear the word nations,

  253. the English word nations,

  254. of course the Bible was written,

  255. the New Testament was written in Greek,

  256. the Old Testament in Hebrew,

  257. little parts of Aramaic here and there.

  258. But in the New Testament,

  259. when we hear the word nations,

  260. the Greek word here is ethne, ethnos.

  261. And it speaks more clearly of people groups.

  262. When we hear nations,

  263. we think of geopolitical boundaries of land,

  264. like China is a nation,

  265. geopolitical boundary of land.

  266. Canada,

  267. the United States of America.

  268. You can picture the shape in your mind of the map.

  269. But when Jesus uses this word that was translated nations in the English,

  270. he's speaking more clearly of people groups.

  271. Now people groups are groups of people on the earth

  272. that have a common language,

  273. a common culture,

  274. a common religion.

  275. The UN estimates that there are nearly 16,000 people groups on the earth today.

  276. And so when Jesus tells his followers to take the gospel to these ethne,

  277. to these people groups,

  278. what he's literally saying is,

  279. take my gospel to the families of the earth.

  280. Now for those of you that are Bible students,

  281. you probably remember that term families from an Old Testament reference

  282. where God told Abraham that through his seed,

  283. the Messiah,

  284. Jesus Christ,

  285. all the families of the earth would be blessed.

  286. You see,

  287. God sees the earth,

  288. not as geopolitical nations.

  289. God sees the earth as groups of families of people.

  290. And hence you have the term people group.

  291. Now according to the best missions research that is done,

  292. the IMB,

  293. by the way,

  294. every time you give your Lottie Moon offering at Christmas time,

  295. you support the greatest missions agency on the face of the earth,

  296. the International Mission Board.

  297. And according to the best research that the IMB has produced

  298. and Joshua Project has produced and Finish the Task has produced,

  299. we understand that of the people groups of the earth,

  300. there are 6,000 people groups that are unreached people groups,

  301. which means they have little to no access to the gospel.

  302. There's no churches that they can go to.

  303. There's no Bibles they can buy at Walmart.

  304. They hope they don't have Walmart,

  305. by the way,

  306. but there's no Bibles they can buy.

  307. They're very limited in access to the gospel.

  308. I had a guy tell me this.

  309. He said,

  310. why are you going to India,

  311. Jack?

  312. There's lost people right here.

  313. And he was 100% correct.

  314. And I said,

  315. well,

  316. let me tell you why God has burdened my heart for the Koli people in India.

  317. It's because they're lost,

  318. just like there's lost people right here.

  319. But the people who are unreached have no access or limited access at all to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

  320. You see,

  321. a lost person here can turn on a TV and hear the gospel,

  322. can turn on a radio and hear the gospel,

  323. can go buy a Bible at Walmart,

  324. can walk down on the corner,

  325. almost a church on almost every corner,

  326. and be invited into a church to hear the gospel.

  327. There's access.

  328. And the reason that most people,

  329. not all,

  330. but the reason that most people in our locality,

  331. in this culture is not Christian,

  332. is because they choose not to go,

  333. or not to listen,

  334. not to hear,

  335. not to respond to the message of Christ.

  336. But people who've never heard,

  337. people who are unreached with the gospel,

  338. have no access.

  339. And if you're unreached and unengaged,

  340. that means no one's going to tell them.

  341. No one's going to tell the 3,500 UUPG peoples of the earth.

  342. There's nobody that we know of,

  343. no missions agency,

  344. nobody from the IMB,

  345. nobody from any missions agency,

  346. no churches,

  347. no pastors,

  348. going to tell the unreached,

  349. unengaged peoples of the earth.

  350. Well, that's a problem.

  351. That's a problem.

  352. There's only one thing worse than being lost.

  353. It's being lost and having nobody care that you're lost.

  354. Could you imagine if you had a child that became lost on a camping trip?

  355. Raise your hand if you have a child,

  356. if you're a mother or a father,

  357. raise your hand.

  358. I mean, most of us.

  359. Could you imagine you go camping,

  360. and one of your little ones wanders off?

  361. Now, what would be your state of mind, I wonder?

  362. What would you be thinking?

  363. How would you react?

  364. Would you go about his life as usual,

  365. business as usual?

  366. Hey, let's start the fire.

  367. Let's have some s'mores.

  368. Would you do that?

  369. No, you would be frantically searching and calling out for your lost child's name.

  370. In fact, you would be enlisting as many people,

  371. friends and strangers,

  372. who are willing to help you look for your lost child.

  373. You see, these unreached people groups of the world,

  374. these unreached, unengaged people groups of the world,

  375. are like they're lost,

  376. and many people are not even aware that they even exist,

  377. and some don't even care.

  378. They just want to go through life as usual.

  379. But our Father's heart longs for the lost.

  380. He longs for His children to be found,

  381. and He is speaking to us, His church, His children.

  382. Find my lost children.

  383. Find those who are lost and bring them home.

  384. Who else would God speak to?

  385. Who else would Jesus command and mandate to do this task?

  386. Us, His children, His family, His followers.

  387. So the Lord Jesus Christ has called us,

  388. and God, Jesus has commanded us,

  389. He's mandated us,

  390. and He's called us to go and find those who are lost.

  391. Now look at this next verse on the screen,

  392. because I want you to see that God's plan is a global plan,

  393. and I want you to see that God's heart is not just for people in the West or white people.

  394. God's heart and His plan is for all people.

  395. In Revelation chapter 7, verse 9,

    Revelation 7:9

  396. After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude,

  397. which no one could number,

  398. of all nations, tribes, peoples, and languages, or tongues,

  399. standing before the throne and before the Lamb.

  400. We see this picture in heaven at the end of time,

  401. of people from every language,

  402. every nation,

  403. every tribe,

  404. and every people group,

  405. before the throne of God,

  406. giving worship to the Lamb of God.

  407. This is the heart of God.

  408. This is God's global plan of redemption.

  409. Now, with all of that in mind,

  410. what is our response?

  411. We must respond.

  412. We cannot take this information in

  413. and just go on as business as usual

  414. unless you just don't really care about who's lost,

  415. unless you don't really care about the heart of your Father.

  416. God's passion mandates that we respond.

  417. Those of us that are Christ followers,

  418. we must respond to this burden.

  419. Taking the gospel to those who have never heard

  420. is the priority of all believers

  421. in every gospel preaching church.

  422. Now, what does that mean practically?

  423. Well, three things.

  424. First of all,

  425. his passion and his plan

  426. has to be our first priority.

  427. His passion,

  428. for God so loved the world,

  429. his plan,

  430. go and make disciples of the ethnosis,

  431. of the nations,

  432. must become our priority.

  433. We must realize the fact

  434. that we have 6,000 unreached people groups,

  435. 3,500 unreached, unengaged people groups

  436. is a problem.

  437. And this is not a problem for the IMB

  438. or for missions agencies.

  439. This problem belongs to the local church.

  440. You see, the IMB is a great entity.

  441. It's a great institution,

  442. an agency

  443. for helping local churches

  444. engage in reaching the unreached.

  445. But the burden of the Great Commission

  446. doesn't belong to the IMB.

  447. It belongs to the church.

  448. And the IMB was raised up by God

  449. to help facilitate the local church

  450. to own the burden for the lost.

  451. Not just here locally or regionally,

  452. but to own the burden internationally

  453. to take the gospel to those who've never heard.

  454. Now, how can we make this priority

  455. our priority?

  456. Well, number one,

  457. let's look at what we can do.

  458. First of all,

  459. every people group here

  460. should be what is on our heart as a church.

  461. We want to be used by God.

  462. We may not be able to reach all people groups,

  463. but we can reach one.

  464. We can pray for one.

  465. And possibly we can go

  466. and assist in helping to reach one.

  467. There's something that we can do.

  468. We may not be able to do everything,

  469. but only God knows that we can do something.

  470. Amen, church,

  471. to reach those who've never heard.

  472. You've heard the story of the man walking on the beach.

  473. And he walks off,

  474. walks up on a bunch of,

  475. I think the story says starfish

  476. that have washed up on the beach during a storm.

  477. And he starts throwing the starfish

  478. back into the ocean.

  479. And a little boy walks up

  480. and says,

  481. it won't do any good.

  482. You can't throw them all back in.

  483. There were thousands that had washed up.

  484. And the fellow said,

  485. well, I may not be able to do them all,

  486. but this one is going to be saved.

  487. And he threw it back in.

  488. We may not be able to reach every people group,

  489. which I know you won't,

  490. but we can do something.

  491. We can interact with the agency of God

  492. and the burden of God

  493. and the urgency of God

  494. in reaching those who are unreached.

  495. So first of all,

  496. every people group here.

  497. Secondly,

  498. every believer shares.

  499. This is part of the solution

  500. to this problem.

  501. Part of the solution

  502. is that believers have stopped sharing,

  503. especially locally in the West,

  504. in the United States.

  505. Very few people are sharing

  506. their faith with others.

  507. That's why we've seen a decline

  508. in Southern Baptist life

  509. of baptisms and church membership.

  510. And we've seen declines across the board

  511. because we've stopped sharing.

  512. We've lost the vision

  513. and the passion of God for the lost.

  514. Listen,

  515. God loves a lost man in Pickens

  516. just as much as he loves a lost man in India.

  517. God doesn't love the Indian people

  518. more than he loves a person

  519. that lives right on your street

  520. or your neighborhood.

  521. God expects us as believers

  522. to share,

  523. to share our testimony,

  524. to share what God has done

  525. in our lives.

  526. I want to share with you a verse

  527. in Acts chapter 19, verse 10,

    Acts 19:10

  528. which really helps us to understand

  529. how powerful this is

  530. if every believer would begin to share

  531. and every disciple would begin

  532. to make disciples.

  533. I want you to see what happened

  534. in Acts chapter 19, verse 10.

    Acts 19:10

  535. It says,

  536. And this continued for two years.

  537. What continued?

  538. Paul's teaching in Ephesus.

  539. Continued for two years

  540. at the school of Tyrannus.

  541. And look what happened.

  542. So that all who dwelt in Asia,

  543. now Asia in this context

  544. is Asia Minor.

  545. It's not like Asia, China, Asia,

  546. or Thailand.

  547. This is Asia Minor,

  548. which would be modern day Turkey.

  549. But still,

  550. let this sink in.

  551. In two years,

  552. every person in Asia Minor

  553. heard the word of the Lord,

  554. both Jew and Greeks,

  555. or Gentiles.

  556. Gentiles.

  557. Now, how in the world

  558. did the Apostle Paul

  559. teach the young disciples

  560. there at Ephesus

  561. and in other places

  562. to do this in two years?

  563. They didn't have roads.

  564. They didn't have computers.

  565. They didn't have airplanes

  566. or buses

  567. or printing presses

  568. or Bibles.

  569. They didn't have money.

  570. How in the world

  571. could Paul lead

  572. the early church

  573. to do such a feat,

  574. to reach such a large group

  575. of people

  576. in two years?

  577. Let me tell you how.

  578. Every person shared

  579. who was a believer in Jesus.

  580. Every disciple of Jesus

  581. discipled someone else.

  582. That's how the gospel

  583. is meant to go forward

  584. in our lives

  585. and in our churches.

  586. Every person must share.

  587. Every disciple must multiply.

  588. So what do I share?

  589. First of all,

  590. you share your story.

  591. When you talk to someone

  592. who lives on your street

  593. or that you go to work with

  594. or a family member

  595. who doesn't know Christ,

  596. you want to share your story.

  597. Remember,

  598. the gospel is always

  599. best presented

  600. on two legs.

  601. Two legs we carry

  602. the gospel.

  603. On one leg,

  604. we call it our story,

  605. which is our personal

  606. interaction with Christ.

  607. How I came to know Christ,

  608. my life before Christ,

  609. how I met Christ,

  610. my life after Christ.

  611. We share a testimony

  612. about Jesus Christ.

  613. Or maybe God

  614. has brought a healing

  615. in your life

  616. or God has done

  617. something for you

  618. that you can brag

  619. on God about.

  620. That's your testimony.

  621. You share something personal

  622. about your relationship

  623. with God

  624. through Jesus Christ.

  625. Secondly,

  626. you tell your story,

  627. you tell God's story,

  628. which is the gospel message

  629. that Christ died

  630. for our sins

  631. and he was buried

  632. and on the third day

  633. he rose again.

  634. So with two legs,

  635. we carry the gospel message.

  636. Every believer shares.

  637. Every disciple multiplies

  638. or makes another disciple.

  639. That's what God

  640. has called us to do.

  641. That's how the task

  642. will be completed.

  643. I want to show you

  644. the power of this

  645. in scripture.

  646. Look at the power

  647. of personal testimony.

  648. Mark chapter 5

    Mark 5:18–20

  649. verses 18 through 20.

  650. And when he got

  651. into the boat,

  652. speaking of Jesus Christ,

  653. Jesus got into the boat,

  654. then this man

  655. who had been demon possessed,

  656. who Jesus took

  657. the demons out of,

  658. he cast them out,

  659. he begged Jesus

  660. that he might be with him.

  661. Jesus, let me go with you.

  662. I want to follow you.

  663. I want to go with you.

  664. But look what Jesus said.

  665. However, Jesus did not

  666. permit him.

  667. Jesus, I want to follow you.

  668. Jesus said, wait a minute.

  669. I've got something

  670. for you to do.

  671. But he said to him,

  672. go home to your friends

  673. and tell them

  674. what great things

  675. the Lord has done for you

  676. and how he has had

  677. compassion on you.

  678. Verse 20.

  679. And he departed.

  680. This man departed

  681. and began to proclaim

  682. in Decapolis

  683. all that Jesus had done

  684. for him

  685. and all the people marveled.

  686. You see, Jesus said,

  687. go back and tell your family,

  688. your friends,

  689. what God has done for you.

  690. That was his testimony

  691. and how he shared the gospel

  692. that 10 cities,

  693. Decapolis, 10 cities

  694. heard the gospel

  695. of Jesus Christ

  696. because of this one

  697. formerly demon possessed man.

  698. The power of your

  699. personal testimony.

  700. Listen, believers.

  701. Listen, Christians.

  702. Open your mouth

  703. and tell people

  704. about what you know

  705. about God.

  706. brag on God.

  707. Right before we went to India,

  708. Barbara had kidney cancer

  709. and it was an awful situation

  710. for us.

  711. I mean, we,

  712. man, we're on the threshold

  713. of going to India

  714. and my wife

  715. is hit by a Chevrolet Silverado

  716. right in her driver's door,

  717. 45 miles an hour.

  718. And they airlift her

  719. to Pitt Memorial Hospital

  720. in Greenville, North Carolina

  721. and she's got internal injuries

  722. and I walk into the room

  723. and I'm thinking,

  724. you know,

  725. she's busted up inside

  726. and the doctors say cancer.

  727. And I went,

  728. what?

  729. She had a car wreck

  730. and you found

  731. seven centimeter tumor

  732. in her right kidney.

  733. Well, I'll just be honest with you.

  734. I wish I could sound

  735. real spiritual

  736. and say,

  737. well, we trusted God.

  738. We were going to India.

  739. India was out.

  740. It was my wife's life

  741. and I wasn't even thinking

  742. about the Coley.

  743. I wasn't thinking

  744. about UUPGs.

  745. I was thinking

  746. about my wife dying.

  747. Are you with me, church?

  748. God delivered Barbara

  749. of cancer.

  750. If we would have went

  751. to India

  752. before the car accident,

  753. she would have become

  754. terminal on the field.

  755. It goes to your bone

  756. and your lung,

  757. that kind of cancer.

  758. And my wife

  759. would have died in India.

  760. But because God allowed

  761. that truck

  762. to hit that car,

  763. have you ever heard

  764. of Romans 8, 28?

  765. I think that's still

  766. in the Bible, right?

  767. For all things

  768. work together for good?

  769. Because the Lord allowed

  770. something that we saw

  771. as bad,

  772. but He meant it for good.

  773. It saved my wife's life.

  774. And guess what?

  775. Four months after

  776. her kidney was removed,

  777. four months later,

  778. we might be crazy for this.

  779. You might think,

  780. you're crazy.

  781. And we probably are.

  782. We hit the ground

  783. in Mumbai

  784. to take the gospel

  785. to this unreached people group.

  786. So I'm just telling you

  787. that the power

  788. of what God has done.

  789. Now my wife is able

  790. to share with people

  791. how God saved her life

  792. through this tragedy

  793. of a car accident.

  794. It's a testimony

  795. she can share naturally.

  796. By the way,

  797. when you share your testimony,

  798. don't share a canned,

  799. memorized.

  800. That sounds so phony.

  801. Share something fresh.

  802. Share what God's done for you.

  803. Share how God saved you.

  804. And then couple it

  805. with the gospel.

  806. And see what the Lord does.

  807. Look at another example.

  808. John chapter 4.

    John 4 chapter mention

  809. The power of personal testimony

  810. in the woman at the well.

  811. Verse 39.

  812. And many of the Samaritans

  813. of that city

  814. believed in Jesus,

  815. believed in him,

  816. because of the word

  817. of the woman

  818. who testified.

  819. He told me all

  820. that I ever did.

  821. You see,

  822. many people in her village

  823. believed in Jesus

  824. because of her testimony.

  825. Now was she a big famous person?

  826. No.

  827. She was actually considered

  828. a shameful woman.

  829. She would go to the water well

  830. in the heat of the day

  831. to not be able to face,

  832. to not have to face

  833. the other women

  834. and their looks.

  835. Because she is on

  836. her fifth husband.

  837. But look who God used

  838. in that village

  839. to bring that village

  840. to Christ.

  841. He used this woman

  842. who would go to the well

  843. at noontime

  844. to be the agent

  845. to carry the gospel

  846. and the message of Christ

  847. back to her village.

  848. And it says here

  849. that many of them believed.

  850. You don't have to be a preacher

  851. to tell your testimony.

  852. You don't have to have

  853. Bible college.

  854. You don't have to have

  855. a seminary degree.

  856. You don't have to be

  857. a natural speaker.

  858. Just open your mouth

  859. and watch God work

  860. through your testimony.

  861. My priority.

  862. My priority is to share.

  863. To share my story

  864. and to share God's story.

  865. So just to recap,

  866. our priority.

  867. Number one,

  868. every person hears.

  869. Number two,

  870. every believer shares.

  871. And number three,

  872. every disciple multiplies.

  873. Or to say that more practically,

  874. every disciple makes

  875. another disciple.

  876. And then you teach

  877. that disciple

  878. to make another disciple.

  879. And then exponentially,

  880. we can reach Pickens.

  881. We can reach South Carolina.

  882. We can reach the world

  883. if disciples would follow

  884. these three simple axioms.

  885. every person hears.

  886. Every believer shares.

  887. And every disciple multiplies.

  888. So the Lord Jesus Christ

  889. gave us the command

  890. to go and make disciples

  891. of all the nations.

  892. To baptize them

  893. in the name of the Father,

  894. the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

  895. And to teach them

  896. to observe the things

  897. that He has commanded.

  898. Jesus said.

  899. Now as we go to do this,

  900. as we lead someone to Christ,

  901. how do we disciple them?

  902. What do we do?

  903. Do we go buy a book

  904. at Lifeway?

  905. I would advise not to do that.

  906. Because anything that you can do

  907. that's just rigid,

  908. just invest your life

  909. in the life of that person.

  910. Spend time with them.

  911. Come to church with them.

  912. I've got an acronym

  913. that helped me in discipling.

  914. In fact, I'm discipling a man

  915. right now.

  916. And this acronym

  917. is very helpful.

  918. And it came from a ministry

  919. called Verge

  920. on the internet.

  921. But that's where I got this.

  922. And it's the BLESS acronym.

  923. And if you're working with someone,

  924. trying to disciple them,

  925. just use this acronym

  926. in your life.

  927. First of all,

  928. begin your time with prayer.

  929. When you meet with them,

  930. begin with prayer.

  931. Secondly, L in BLESS.

  932. Listen.

  933. Listen to them for opportunities.

  934. Ways that you can minister

  935. to their needs.

  936. In doing that,

  937. you can show Christ

  938. to their life.

  939. Third, E.

  940. Eat with them.

  941. I like that point.

  942. I like to eat.

  943. You eat with them.

  944. Spend time with them.

  945. Don't just meet them

  946. at church.

  947. Have them at your house.

  948. Bring someone to your home.

  949. Eat a meal with them.

  950. Get to know them.

  951. S.

  952. Serve with them.

  953. Find ways to serve.

  954. Now, this is a person

  955. you're discipling.

  956. Find something to do.

  957. Here at First Baptist,

  958. other opportunities,

  959. look for something to do.

  960. Share.

  961. The last S.

  962. Share your story

  963. and God's story,

  964. which means teach them

  965. how to share their testimony.

  966. Let them see you do it.

  967. And in doing that,

  968. you make a disciple,

  969. someone who can follow

  970. your example.

  971. You've multiplied your faith

  972. in someone else.

  973. His passion

  974. and his plan

  975. must be our priority.

  976. Jesus' last words

  977. on the earth

  978. to his church

  979. to go and make disciples,

  980. to be witnesses

  981. in Jerusalem,

  982. Judea,

  983. Samaria,

  984. and to the ends of the earth.

  985. His last words

  986. must be our first priority

  987. as a church.

  988. We must give.

  989. We must continue to give.

  990. I know First Baptist gives.

  991. And many of you give

  992. sacrificially to missions.

  993. Continue to give.

  994. But we can't stop there.

  995. We've got to own

  996. this responsibility.

  997. We must go.

  998. I heard Jeff talking about

  999. going with Carpenters for Christ,

  1000. going and doing

  1001. these mission trips.

  1002. Go.

  1003. Continue to go

  1004. on trips

  1005. and short-term trips.

  1006. We must send

  1007. people from our congregation

1008. who are called to God,

  1009. called by God

1010. to go to the mission field.

1011. We must continue to send

  1012. and we must pray

  1013. and continue to pray.

  1014. But it doesn't stop

  1015. with going,

  1016. giving,

  1017. sending,

  1018. and praying.

  1019. We who are followers

  1020. of Jesus Christ,

  1021. His church

  1022. must own

  1023. the responsibility

  1024. of the burden

  1025. of our Father

  1026. for the nations,

  1027. for reaching

  1028. the unreached

  1029. and unengaged

  1030. of our world.

  1031. And we do this

1032. by making it a priority

  1033. in three specific areas.

1034. And I end the message

  1035. with this.

  1036. First of all,

  1037. church,

  1038. I'm speaking to you

  1039. corporately.

  1040. We must be aware

  1041. of the need

  1042. and aware

  1043. of our Father's burden

  1044. for the nations.

  1045. That's part of what

  1046. this message is about,

  1047. is awareness.

  1048. Letting you know,

  1049. giving you some information,

  1050. letting you think

  1051. and ponder and pray,

  1052. hopefully,

  1053. about the need

  1054. in our Father's heart

  1055. for the lost

  1056. and for the nations.

  1057. Secondly,

  1058. we must seek out

  1059. opportunities

  1060. to further educate

  1061. ourselves

  1062. in the overall need

1063. and what we can do

  1064. to be a part

  1065. of the solution

  1066. to see the nations

  1067. come to Christ.

  1068. Number three,

  1069. we must move

  1070. to action.

  1071. We must

  1072. become personally

  1073. involved

  1074. and it's funny

1075. to speak to a church

  1076. corporately

  1077. and say you've got

  1078. to be personally involved,

  1079. but the church

  1080. is a body

  1081. of Christ

  1082. and the church

  1083. must have

  1084. a single heart

  1085. about what God's

  1086. heart is for,

  1087. which is the nations.

  1088. become

  1089. personally involved

  1090. as a church

  1091. in a call

  1092. to action

  1093. to adopting

  1094. an unreached

  1095. people group.

  1096. You say,

  1097. well,

  1098. where do we begin?

  1099. First of all,

  1100. be made aware

  1101. of who the unreached

  1102. people groups are.

  1103. What can we do?

  1104. The IMB offers

  1105. an intensive,

  1106. a mission summit

  1107. that they're willing

  1108. to come

  1109. and send a team

  1110. to help educate

  1111. further on how

  1112. churches can engage

  1113. the unengaged.

  1114. Churches have to

  1115. invite them.

  1116. They won't force

  1117. their way,

  1118. but that's a way

  1119. that we can become

  1120. more personally

  1121. involved as a church

  1122. in adopting

  1123. this unreached

  1124. people group.

  1125. Now,

1126. let me say this to you.

  1127. I'm either right

  1128. and I'm on

  1129. bullseye

  1130. with the word

  1131. of God

  1132. and the heart

  1133. of God,

  1134. our Father,

  1135. or I'm just a crazy man

  1136. who's completely

  1137. missed it.

  1138. I believe

  1139. with all my heart

  1140. I'm right.

  1141. God has grabbed

  1142. my heart

  1143. for the unreached.

1144. I'll never be the same.

  1145. Jeff said I'd served

  1146. as an American pastor

  1147. for 27 years

  1148. and I did

  1149. and I thought

  1150. I really had

1151. a good grasp of missions

  1152. and I did

  1153. in a conceptual way,

  1154. but when I went

  1155. to India

  1156. to live in India

  1157. and to work

  1158. among a people

  1159. that no one

  1160. had ever worked

  1161. among,

  1162. it really,

  1163. God's passion

  1164. for the nations

  1165. became my passion.

  1166. I began to have

  1167. my Father's heart

  1168. for those who had

  1169. never heard

  1170. the gospel

  1171. of Jesus Christ.

  1172. So I just want

  1173. to submit to you.

  1174. I hope I'm not

  1175. out of order

  1176. in doing so.

  1177. I'm just delivering

  1178. the burden

  1179. that God put

  1180. in my heart

  1181. to give to you

  1182. this morning

  1183. that we become aware

  1184. and we look for

  1185. further ways

  1186. to educate ourselves

  1187. in relation

  1188. to the burden,

  1189. the need,

  1190. and then we have

  1191. a call to action

  1192. which could lead

  1193. to the adoption

  1194. of an unreached

  1195. people group

  1196. and how that

  1197. fleshes out

  1198. and how that

  1199. works out

  1200. is between

  1201. your church

  1202. and God

  1203. and the IMB

  1204. is more than

  1205. willing to be

  1206. helpful to come

  1207. and assist

  1208. and to facilitate

  1209. but we,

  1210. the church,

  1211. have to own.

  1212. We can't just

  1213. pay the IMB

  1214. to do our work.

  1215. We want to

  1216. be a part,

  1217. personally involved

  1218. in the work

  1219. of Jesus Christ

  1220. and the passion

  1221. of God

  1222. for the nations.

  1223. Let's bow our heads

  1224. and close our eyes.

  1225. Dear God,

  1226. thank you for the

  1227. opportunity

  1228. to come here,

  1229. Lord,

  1230. and to expound

  1231. on your heart

  1232. for those

  1233. who are lost.

  1234. Help us to remember,

  1235. Lord,

  1236. that it's not just

  1237. about overseas.

  1238. Lord,

  1239. we should be

  1240. sharing here.

  1241. We should be

  1242. sharing our testimony

  1243. here with people

  1244. that we work with,

  1245. that we see

  1246. at the restaurant.

  1247. People maybe

  1248. we live on the

  1249. same street

  1250. or we go to

  1251. a ball game with.

  1252. Lord,

  1253. it's not just

  1254. about doing

  1255. missions overseas.

  1256. It's about doing

  1257. it here in our

  1258. Jerusalem,

  1259. doing it in our

  1260. region and nation

  1261. and doing it,

  1262. of course,

  1263. to the ends

  1264. of the earth.

  1265. But Lord,

  1266. help us in doing

  1267. missions.

  1268. Help us not

  1269. to forget

  1270. the ones

  1271. who've never

  1272. heard,

  1273. Lord.

  1274. Help us never

  1275. to abandon,

  1276. Lord,

  1277. those who've

  1278. never had a chance

  1279. to respond.

  1280. Lord,

  1281. who's going

  1282. to take up

  1283. that burden?

  1284. Who's going

  1285. to take up,

  1286. Lord,

  1287. that responsibility?

  1288. It's got to be

  1289. us,

  1290. Father,

  1291. your people.

  1292. Would you

  1293. re-familiarate

  1294. our hearts

  1295. with your heart,

  1296. God?

  1297. Would you

  1298. re-familiar

  1299. our hearts

  1300. with yours?

  1301. Would you

  1302. pour into

  1303. us,

  1304. Lord,

  1305. your passion

  1306. for the nations,

  1307. God?

  1308. Especially for

  1309. those who are

  1310. unreached

  1311. and unengaged,

  1312. God.

  1313. Surely,

  1314. Lord,

  1315. we can't

  1316. do everything,

  1317. but we

  1318. can do

  1319. something,

  1320. Father.

  1321. So,

  1322. Lord,

  1323. lead this

  1324. precious church,

  1325. this precious

  1326. pastor and

  1327. staff.

  1328. Lead them,

  1329. Lord,

  1330. as to what

  1331. you would

  1332. want them

  1333. to do

  1334. and continue

  1335. to do

  1336. as they

  1337. do missions

  1338. well.

  1339. Lord,

  1340. continue to

  1341. do the

  1342. things that

  1343. they're doing

  1344. well already,

  1345. Lord.

  1346. God,

  1347. I just pray

  1348. your blessings

  1349. on First

  1350. Baptist Church

  1351. Pickens,

  1352. Lord.

  1353. Put this

  1354. message deep

  1355. in our soul.

  1356. Don't let

  1357. us easily

  1358. forget it,

  1359. Father.

  1360. In Jesus'

  1361. name I

  1362. pray.

  1363. Amen.
