  1. Please be seated.

  2. But don't panic.

  3. This is a conclusion, not a sermon, okay?

  4. The coming of God's Son into this world

  5. is the greatest search and rescue mission of all time.

  6. You're familiar with what that is.

  7. We've read stories of how the military

  8. or a law enforcement agency

  9. or other first responders have gone out

  10. to search for lost people,

  11. maybe lost in the mountains

  12. or in the rubble from an earthquake

  13. or even at sea.

  14. Their mission is to search for and rescue

  15. the person or the people who are lost.

  16. Their purpose is to seek and save lives.

  17. That's why Jesus said He came into the world.

  18. He came to carry out, truly,

  19. a search and rescue mission

  20. that He describes in Luke 19, verse 10 like this.

    Luke 19:10

  21. For the Son of Man came to seek

  22. and to save the lost.

  23. Jesus uses that word lost

  24. to describe someone who is spiritually separated from God.

  25. He's really talking about someone who is spiritually dead.

  26. And a great example of that's how He's using the word

  27. is found in His story of the prodigal son.

  28. In that story, the father,

  29. whose son rebelled and went away,

  30. but finally came back,

  31. the father describes the son's condition like this.

  32. For this my son was dead and is alive again.

  33. He was lost and is found.

  34. And that gave them reason to celebrate.

  35. The Bible says that all of us are separated from God by our sin.

  36. That's what it means to say that a person is lost.

  37. It means that we're without hope

  38. because we cannot save ourselves.

  39. We cannot rescue ourselves from this spiritually dead condition.

  40. If Jesus had not been born,

  41. if there was no Christmas,

  42. we would all stand condemned

  43. because as the Bible says,

  44. all have sinned and come short of the glory of God

  45. and the penalty or the wages of sin is death.

  46. But the good news this morning

  47. that we have heard about

  48. through the songs, through the music,

  49. through the narration

  50. is that Jesus did come.

  51. He came to seek and to save the lost.

  52. If you're not a Christian

  53. and you'll admit to God

  54. that you are lost,

  55. separated from Him,

  56. and you want to be rescued

  57. by Jesus Christ,

  58. then the way to respond is like this.

  59. Turn from your sin.

  60. Change your mind about living life your way

  61. instead of God's way.

  62. Grieve over the fact that you have dishonored God.

  63. Repent of your sins, what I'm saying.

  64. And then put your faith in Jesus

  65. that when He died on the cross,

  66. He died as your substitute.

  67. Think in terms of when He died on the cross,

  68. God placed your sin on Him.

  69. And He suffered the pain,

  70. the punishment

  71. of being separated from God.

  72. That's why He cried out,

  73. My God, my God,

  74. why have you forsaken me?

  75. Because God had turned away from Him

  76. as He bore our sin.

  77. Put your faith in Jesus

  78. as your Savior.

  79. Call upon Him to save you.

  80. Surrender your life

  81. to Him as your Lord,

  82. as your ultimate leader.

  83. The Scripture says

  84. that whoever will call upon the name of the Lord

  85. will be saved.

  86. Now, if you are a Christian,

  87. and I know that most in this room are,

  88. thank God for demonstrating His grace

  89. and His love

  90. by sending Jesus into this world

  91. on this seek and saving mission.

  92. What we all need to do as Christians this morning

  93. as we leave here

  94. is to join with our Lord,

  95. join with Him on this search and rescue mission

  96. by sharing the good news

  97. of why Jesus came

  98. and how anyone who will

  99. can know Him as Savior and Lord.

  100. Would you pray with me?

  101. Father,

  102. Father, help us in this room

  103. as your people

  104. to understand

  105. that it is our responsibility

  106. to share this good news

  107. and be a part of

  108. your

  109. search

  110. and rescue

  111. mission.

  112. And Father,

  113. if there is anyone in this room

  114. who is not a Christian,

  115. work in their mind,

  116. their heart right now

  117. to cause them to see

  118. their need,

  119. their lost condition.

  120. so work in them

  121. to cause them

  122. to put their faith

  123. and trust in Jesus,

  124. to call upon Him

  125. for salvation.

  126. Help that man

  127. or woman

  128. or young person

  129. to know

  130. that a service

  131. that celebrates

  132. the coming of Jesus

  133. into this world

  134. to seek and save

  135. the lost.

  136. This is the best service

  137. for them

  138. to be saved in.

  139. So work right now

  140. to call that person

  141. to trust Jesus

  142. and we come

  143. to you, Father,

  144. in Jesus' name.

  145. Amen.

  146. Amen.

  147. Amen.
