  1. I'm going to guess that in this room there's a lot of you that have something in common with me when I was a kid.

  2. As a little child, and I'm not going to tell you how long it took me to get over it, I was afraid of the dark.

  3. And sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night because I thought I heard something.

  4. And we lived out in the country and we didn't have air conditioning, so in the summer, really late spring, summer, this time of year, we always slept with the windows up.

  5. And when you're sleeping with the windows up and you hear something outside, you're a little kid, you get scared.

  6. A lot of nights I can remember getting scared.

  7. But then I would hear a sound, a familiar sound coming from the next room that I really liked.

  8. That was my dad snoring.

  9. Snoring loud.

  10. But you know, as a little kid, hearing my dad snore in the next room did not keep me awake.

  11. That helped me to sleep.

  12. Because it really did make me feel secure.

  13. It was comforting.

  14. Wasn't any booger going to get me with my dad in the next room.

  15. In Psalm 139, David had a better source of comfort, knowing he was not just in the next room, but that he was with him everywhere he went.

  16. David talks about the comfort he found in knowing God, knowing that he was always with him, that he knew everything about him.

  17. And as we're going to see this morning, that God made him.

  18. Psalm 139 is one of the most comforting chapters in all the Bible.

  19. It teaches us a lot about just who God is, how he is.

  20. What I want us to see is, as a part of this series, why we're focusing on Psalm 139.

  21. It's really written in four different sections, four different thoughts.

  22. Thoughts.

  23. We're in the third one today.

  24. It teaches us why we can and should trust God instead of worrying about life's uncertainties, life's hardships.

  25. You know, life's that way.

  26. There's times in our lives when we just have sort of a, we're anxious because we don't know what's going to, about to take place.

  27. We're anxious about some people or situations.

  28. And sometimes we're stressed out because we're going through a hard time personally or because of somebody we are close to, we love, who's going through that hard time.

  29. Well, David found great comfort in all such situations in knowing who God was, how he was, how he was so involved in his life.

  30. I want you to look at the first two things we have seen in Psalm 139.

  31. Show you what I'm talking about.

  32. We're not going to go through any of this.

  33. I just want to show you the statements.

  34. In verses 1 through 6, David tells us about God's knowledge, about how God knows everything.

  35. But as you read that, David made it personal, so we're going to make it personal.

  36. God doesn't just know everything.

  37. God knows me.

  38. That's how we need to think.

  39. God knows me and everything about me.

  40. Then in the next section, 7 through 12, David writes about God's presence.

  41. God is everywhere.

  42. As we looked at last week, we need to make this personal.

  43. God is with me.

  44. Always.

  45. We can always count on him.

  46. No matter where we go.

  47. Even if we want to escape him, we cannot.

  48. God is always with me.

  49. Well, the third section, verses 13 through 18, really tells us how God knows us so well

  50. and can always be wherever we are.

  51. Let's read it together.

  52. Psalm 139, verse 13.

    Psalms 139:13

  53. For you formed my inward parts.

  54. David is writing, writing a poem, writing a song about how God is so involved in his life.

  55. For you formed my inward parts.

  56. You knitted me together in my mother's womb.

  57. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

  58. Wonderful are your works.

  59. My soul knows it very well.

  60. My frame was not hidden from you when I was being made in secret,

  61. intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

  62. Your eyes saw my unformed substance.

  63. In your book were written every one of them,

  64. the days that were formed for me,

  65. when as yet there was none of them.

  66. How precious to me are your thoughts, O God.

  67. How vast is the sum of them.

  68. If I would count them, they are more than sand.

  69. I awake, and I am still with you.

  70. The source of David's comfort and praise in these verses is God's power.

  71. God can do anything.

  72. And the way he makes it personal,

  73. and the way that we need to make it personal is to think this.

  74. God made me.

  75. God made you.

  76. We're going to look at what that means.

  77. The description of how God made us is comprehensive here in these verses.

  78. God created each of us according to who he wanted us to be.

  79. God made you according to who he wanted you to be,

  80. and according to the life he had planned out for you.

  81. Let's look at it.

  82. First, think this way.

  83. Think about this.

  84. God made us.

  85. David describes that in verses 13 and 15.

  86. Let's look at verse 13 again.

  87. For you formed my inward parts.

  88. You knitted me together in my mother's womb.

  89. I want you to look at how Chuck Swindoll describes God's work of forming and knitting us together

  90. in his paraphrase of that verse.

  91. Look at it.

  92. For God alone, none other, originated my vital organs.

  93. You knitted my inner being together in the womb of my mother.

  94. David is trying to tell us.

  95. God made us from the inside out.

  96. And then in verse 15, look at it.

  97. My frame was not hidden from you.

  98. When I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth.

  99. Now that last phrase, don't let it throw you off, in the depths of the earth,

  100. that's a poetic description of a child being formed in secret,

  101. as he just said, in the mother's womb.

  102. Poetic expression.

  103. He uses a lot of imagination to try to help us understand the work of God.

  104. The mother's womb is a dark, hidden, secret place.

  105. Look again at Swindoll's paraphrase of this verse.

  106. My skeleton and bones were not hidden from you

  107. when I was made in that concealed place of protection.

  108. When my veins and arteries were skillfully embroidered together

  109. in variegated colors like fine needlepoint.

  110. Now let's think about what we've read, verses 13 and 15 together.

  111. David is describing how God carefully, and like an artist,

  112. skillfully created each individual human being.

  113. God created our inner parts and our outward form.

  114. This includes your physical features and your psychological makeup.

  115. In other words, think like this.

  116. God made your basic personality.

  117. And God made you, your form, your structure,

  118. how you are, high, you know, tall, short, whatever.

  119. God made your physical appearance to be as it is.

  120. Now, let's make some quick corrections or adjustments here.

  121. The fact that God made us this way does not mean that we should not try

  122. to look as good as we can.

  123. For the benefit of some people, let me say that again.

  124. Just because God made us a certain way

  125. does not mean we should not try to look a little bit better

  126. in every way, to act a little bit better.

  127. But here's the real point.

  128. You are who you are by God's design, personality, overall structure,

  129. and you can't change who you really are.

  130. You can't change the way God made you in this kind of specific way.

  131. If you're six feet five, you cannot be five feet five.

  132. If you are wired in such a way that, you know,

  133. you're just the kind of person who's always alert,

  134. you're sort of a type A, you know, everything matters,

  135. you can work on it,

  136. but you're never going to be just a laid-back,

  137. K, Sera, Sera kind of guy or girl.

  138. If you ever do the Myers-Briggs type indicator,

  139. you can go online and do that.

  140. That's a great personality test,

  141. sort of figure out who you are, why you are the way you are,

  142. and that's just you.

  143. Every couple ought to do that.

  144. Understand who you are by God's design,

  145. who it is you've married.

  146. You can't change who you married.

  147. It's not your job to change who you married.

  148. Just like it's not who you married,

  149. it's not their job to change you.

  150. God made us.

  151. Now, along this line,

  152. every person should have a healthy sense of self-worth

  153. or self-esteem for at least three reasons.

  154. Number one, God created us in His own image.

  155. Out of all the creation,

  156. only human beings were created in God's image.

  157. I want you to look at a verse of Scripture

  158. that I know you're familiar with.

  159. We've looked at it in days gone by.

  160. I've done studies about this.

  161. But just look at Genesis 127.

  162. So God created man in His own image.

  163. In the image of God, He created him.

  164. Male and female, He created them.

  165. Men and women equally are created in the image of God.

  166. And for if no other reason,

  167. you ought to think,

  168. I am of worth and value as a human being in this world

  169. because I am created in the image of Almighty God.

  170. Number two, God created us as the person we are.

  171. That's what we just read in verses 13 and 15.

  172. You are not an accident.

  173. You are not a mistake.

  174. Every single one of us in here,

  175. we can think, we can look around and think to ourselves,

  176. I wish I was like that person.

  177. I wish I was built like that person.

  178. I wish I had the personality of that person.

  179. I wish I could be more laid back.

  180. Or I wish I could be more assertive.

  181. See, there's always somebody

  182. that you think, I'd like to be like them.

  183. And a lot of times they're your opposite.

  184. God has a reason for you being you.

  185. So be you.

  186. Be your best you.

  187. But be you.

  188. Number three,

  189. God sent His Son to save us

  190. in spite of all of our sins,

  191. our flaws,

  192. and our failures.

  193. In case I don't say it at the proper time later on,

  194. I hope I do.

  195. Nobody has it all together.

  196. We all are messed up in some way.

  197. A lot of times we want to do our way

  198. instead of God's way.

  199. Life's all about me

  200. and my glory,

  201. not God and His will and His glory.

  202. We need to understand

  203. that we are sinful people.

  204. We've come short,

  205. far short,

  206. of God's standards,

  207. God's expectations,

  208. God's commands,

  209. God's glory.

  210. And the penalty for sin is death.

  211. We don't deserve anything from God

  212. except death,

  213. separation from Him.

  214. We should reap what we sow.

  215. But the good news,

  216. look at Romans 5, 8.

  217. But God shows His love for us

  218. in that while we were still sinners,

  219. rebels,

  220. selfish,

  221. arrogant,

  222. while we were still sinners

  223. of whatever kind,

  224. Christ died for us.

  225. God did something we did not deserve.

  226. He provided a way for us

  227. to be forgiven of our sins,

  228. made right with Him,

  229. made children of Him

  230. through the actual merits

  231. of what Jesus did,

  232. living His righteous life

  233. and dying on the cross

  234. to pay the penalty for our sins.

  235. All of us,

  236. we should accept who we are

  237. by God's design

  238. and then seek to be

  239. the best that we can possibly be,

  240. living according to

  241. God's owner's manual.

  242. God made us as we are

  243. and He's given us

  244. an instruction book,

  245. His Word,

  246. the Bible,

  247. to guide us

  248. in everything

  249. of importance in life

  250. in terms of what we should believe

  251. and how we should live.

  252. How we should live

  253. in a relationship to God

  254. and how we should live

  255. in a relationship

  256. with other people,

  257. people we go to school with,

  258. work with,

  259. and especially we live with.

  260. Now,

  261. God's not only given us

  262. instructions

  263. on how He wants us to live

  264. as the person He created us,

  265. but if we're Christians,

  266. if you truly are

  267. trusting in Christ

  268. as your Savior and Lord,

  269. when that took place,

  270. when you first believed,

  271. when you were born again,

  272. God put His Spirit in you,

  273. and the Holy Spirit

  274. living in every Christian,

  275. every Christian,

  276. He will enable us

  277. to better understand

  278. God's owner's manual.

  279. He will help us

  280. to believe it.

  281. He will help us

  282. to put it into practice.

  283. Because we still have

  284. this sinful nature,

  285. we're not going to put it

  286. into practice perfectly,

  287. but He's going to help us,

  288. He's going to give us

  289. the desire

  290. and the ability

  291. to grow

  292. and actually make progress

  293. in living like God's people.

  294. God not only made us,

  295. but I want you to look

  296. further in verse 16,

  297. God planned our life.

  298. Look at it.

  299. Your eyes saw

  300. my unformed body.

  301. All the days ordained

  302. for me were written

  303. in your book

  304. before one of them

  305. came to be.

  306. That's out of the NIV translation.

  307. David's telling us,

  308. listen to what he's saying,

  309. before God formed us,

  310. he planned out our life.

  311. God made us for a purpose.

  312. That's another way

  313. to look at it.

  314. The prophet Jeremiah

  315. understood that.

  316. Prophet Jeremiah understood

  317. that God didn't just make him,

  318. but God made him

  319. for a specific purpose,

  320. a reason.

  321. One big one.

  322. Probably a lot of little ones,

  323. but one big one.

  324. Look at how he describes it

  325. in Jeremiah chapter one.

  326. He said,

  327. the Lord gave me this message.

  328. I knew you

  329. before I formed you

  330. in your mother's womb.

  331. Before you were born,

  332. I set you apart

  333. and appointed you

  334. as my prophet

  335. to the nations.

  336. Jeremiah is saying,

  337. before I was ever a thought

  338. in my father's mind,

  339. before my mother and father

  340. even knew one another,

  341. God knew me.

  342. He knew that I was going

  343. to come to be

  344. at a certain place

  345. at a certain time

  346. and God planned

  347. what I was to do

  348. in terms of serving

  349. his purpose

  350. in this world.

  351. He understood that.

  352. Here's what I want us

  353. to think.

  354. God has a plan

  355. for every person

  356. he creates.

  357. God has a plan

  358. for all of us.

  359. He works in all

  360. the details

  361. of our life

  362. to bring it about.

  363. Now, I don't want you

  364. to get the wrong

  365. impression here.

  366. Everybody's not called

  367. to be a great prophet

  368. of God

  369. like Jeremiah.

  370. Everybody's not called

  371. to do something

  372. that the world

  373. will sit up

  374. and take notice.

  375. But everybody

  376. has been made

  377. by God

  378. the way they are

  379. to fulfill

  380. the purpose

  381. God has for them.

  382. And that purpose

  383. includes being

  384. a certain kind

  385. of father

  386. and mother

  387. and husband

  388. and wife,

  389. child,

  390. employer,

  391. employee,

  392. student,

  393. whatever.

  394. God has a purpose

  395. for our lives

  396. really at various

  397. stages.

  398. sometimes it takes

  399. a lot of time

  400. for us to figure

  401. some things out,

  402. doesn't it?

  403. Sometimes it takes

  404. a lot of us

  405. trial and error.

  406. Sometimes we have

  407. to learn things

  408. the hard way.

  409. I've learned

  410. a whole lot of

  411. lessons in my life

  412. the hard way.

  413. There's been a lot

  414. of things in my life

  415. that I needed

  416. to be there

  417. but I went

  418. around this way

  419. to get there.

  420. Can you identify?

  421. Some more

  422. than others.

  423. God,

  424. let's give you

  425. an example.

  426. God planned

  427. for the Apostle Paul

  428. as we know him today.

  429. If you read

  430. through the book

  431. of Acts

  432. and a lot

  433. of the New Testament,

  434. it's his letters.

  435. God planned

  436. for Paul

  437. to be the world's

  438. greatest missionary.

  439. He planned

  440. for Paul

  441. to plant

  442. churches

  443. throughout the

  444. Roman world

  445. in the first century.

  446. God planned

  447. for Paul.

  448. Part of his purpose

  449. was to

  450. so,

  451. do these things,

  452. be a missionary,

  453. plant churches

  454. and later on

  455. write letters

  456. to these churches

  457. that became

  458. a large part

  459. of our New Testament.

  460. God planned

  461. to use Paul

  462. to write

  463. Scripture.

  464. But how did

  465. Paul begin

  466. his life?

  467. A lot of you know.

  468. Most of you know.

  469. Paul didn't begin

  470. as the great

  471. believer and follower

  472. of Jesus.

  473. Paul began,

  474. at least what we

  475. learned of him,

  476. he was a religious

  477. man,

  478. very devout,

  479. but he didn't

  480. believe anything

  481. about Jesus.

  482. He hated

  483. followers of Jesus.

  484. He was the

  485. world's leading

  486. persecutor

  487. of Christians

  488. before he became

  489. the world's

  490. greatest

  491. preacher,

  492. establisher

  493. of churches.

  494. How did

  495. that change

  496. come about?

  497. Well,

  498. for Paul,

  499. God had to

  500. literally

  501. knock him

  502. down one day

  503. and blind

  504. him

  505. to wake him

  506. up,

  507. to get his

  508. attention,

  509. to do what

  510. God intended

  511. to do

  512. with his life.

  513. For Paul,

  514. it was a painful

  515. lesson,

  516. but he learned

  517. the lesson

  518. and he got

  519. on board

  520. and he fulfilled

  521. God's purpose.

  522. God has a way

  523. of just working

  524. in people's

  525. lives and

  526. if we took

  527. the time,

  528. I bet there's

  529. a lot of people

  530. in this room,

  531. you could stand

  532. up and tell us

  533. about your

  534. story,

  535. about how you

  536. started out one

  537. way or you

  538. started out in a

  539. way so unlikely

  540. to be where you

  541. are today.

  542. Let me give you

  543. another example.

  544. I know everybody

  545. here doesn't like

  546. Clemson University,

  547. everybody doesn't

  548. like football,

  549. everybody doesn't

  550. like Davos

  551. Swinney,

  552. but I'm going

  553. to guess that

  554. most people in

  555. this room,

  556. you know the

  557. story of Davos

  558. Swinney.

  559. You know his

  560. childhood,

  561. teen years,

  562. even college

  563. years,

  564. nothing desirable,

  565. had nothing,

  566. family had

  567. nothing,

  568. took care of

  569. his own mother

  570. in his dorm

  571. or in his

  572. college place.

  573. As a coach,

  574. he was never

  575. a defensive

  576. coordinator,

  577. never an

  578. offensive

  579. coordinator.

  580. As a coach,

  581. he was a

  582. receiver's coach.

  583. He was down

  584. to pecking

  585. order on any

  586. college level

  587. coaching staff.

  588. And before he

  589. came to Clemson

  590. as the receiver's

  591. coach,

  592. coach,

  593. he'd quit coaching.

  594. Out of it all together.

  595. But God so

  596. worked in his life,

  597. and I'm not

  598. saying Davos was

  599. running from God

  600. or rebelling,

  601. anything like that.

  602. I'm just saying

  603. the circumstances

  604. were such.

  605. But God worked

  606. in his life

  607. in a tremendous

  608. way

  609. to elevate him

  610. to a position

  611. where now

  612. he's one of this

  613. nation's most

  614. popular coaches.

  615. he is one of

  616. the best

  617. paid coaches

  618. in this country.

  619. And like it

  620. or not,

  621. non-Clemson

  622. fans,

  623. he is one of

  624. the most

  625. successful coaches

  626. in this country.

  627. Head coaches.

  628. what I want us

  629. to see is

  630. it may not

  631. be ever

  632. on the news

  633. or in the paper

  634. or anybody

  635. talk about it

  636. in a sermon

  637. illustration,

  638. but God has

  639. a plan for our

  640. lives.

  641. And where you

  642. are now

  643. is important,

  644. but it's not

  645. where you're going

  646. to be

  647. later.

  648. Truth is,

  649. all of us

  650. are still

  651. in process.

  652. We're all

  653. still on that

  654. journey.

  655. There's a lot

  656. of young people

  657. in here.

  658. You're just

  659. getting started

  660. in your life.

  661. And there's

  662. just a lot

  663. of,

  664. it's like life

  665. is,

  666. you need to

  667. think of what

  668. we're talking

  669. about here.

  670. Life is an

  671. adventure.

  672. You don't know

  673. what God's

  674. planned for you.

  675. If you're a

  676. Christian,

  677. you're his

  678. child.

  679. He has some

  680. good things

  681. planned for you.

  682. It may not be

  683. to be wealthy

  684. or famous.

  685. He's got a

  686. good plan for

  687. you if you'll

  688. be faithful to

  689. seek it,

  690. to follow it,

  691. to put it

  692. into practice.

  693. A lot of

  694. people here,

  695. let's say it

  696. this way,

  697. a lot of

  698. people here

  699. are old.

  700. I see a

  701. woman back

  702. there,

  703. old as I

  704. don't know

  705. what.

  706. But if

  707. we're alive,

  708. life is not

  709. over.

  710. And we

  711. don't know

  712. what tomorrow

  713. holds for any

  714. of us.

  715. At any age.

  716. But if

  717. God is our

  718. heavenly father,

  719. we can trust

  720. him.

  721. That he is

  722. still at work

  723. in our lives,

  724. working out

  725. that plan,

  726. the good

  727. plan that he

  728. prepared for

  729. you.

  730. And he made

  731. you like you

  732. are so that

  733. you will be

  734. successful at

  735. your plan

  736. that God has

  737. for you.

  738. if we'll be

  739. faithful to

  740. live life

  741. God's way

  742. and cooperate

  743. with his

  744. indwelling

  745. spirit.

  746. We don't

  747. have to sit

  748. around and

  749. worry about

  750. what God

  751. has planned

  752. for us.

  753. We just

  754. need to live

  755. faithfully

  756. day by day

  757. and just

  758. accept it as

  759. it comes.

  760. And if we

  761. don't know

  762. something,

  763. we pray and

  764. seek his

  765. wisdom,

  766. seek his

  767. direction.

  768. We just

  769. seek his

  770. help.

  771. These verses

  772. show us that

  773. God shapes

  774. each of us

  775. to the person

  776. he wants us

  777. to be in

  778. order to

  779. carry out the

  780. purpose that

  781. he has for

  782. our lives.

  783. And that's

  784. why we don't

  785. have to be

  786. anxious about

  787. life.

  788. That's why we

  789. don't have to

  790. be all stressed

  791. out and worried.

  792. We have a

  793. heavenly father.

  794. Remember what

  795. Jesus said in

  796. Matthew 6?

  797. We have a

  798. heavenly father

  799. who knows us,

  800. knows everything

  801. that we need.

  802. We can trust

  803. him to take

  804. care of us.

  805. We can trust

  806. that he's got

  807. everything under

  808. control.

  809. It does

  810. matter how

  811. we live.

  812. It does

  813. matter the

  814. choices we

  815. make.

  816. So we need

  817. to be faithful

  818. to do what

  819. we know God

  820. wants us to

  821. do.

  822. And as I

  823. said, pray

  824. about the

  825. things we

  826. don't.

  827. Seek God's

  828. wisdom.

  829. Seek his

  830. help.

  831. But the

  832. bottom line

  833. in all this

  834. is we can

  835. and must

  836. trust God

  837. if we want

  838. to be able

  839. to deal

  840. with life's

  841. hardships and

  842. uncertainties in

  843. a healthy way.

  844. But I want you

  845. to note how

  846. David responded

  847. to all this.

  848. verses 14

  849. and 17

  850. and 18.

  851. The thought

  852. of how God

  853. made him

  854. was just

  855. overwhelming.

  856. And we need

  857. to think.

  858. The very thought

  859. about all this

  860. stuff we've been

  861. looking at.

  862. How God made

  863. us.

  864. How he's got

  865. a plan for

  866. our lives.

  867. That should

  868. cause us to

  869. praise God

  870. just as David

  871. did.

  872. Look at verse

  873. 14.

  874. As he thought

  875. about how God

  876. made him.

  877. For you

  878. former

  879. Emerald

  880. Parks

  881. verse 13

  882. verse 14.

  883. I praise

  884. you for

  885. I am

  886. fearfully

  887. and wonderfully

  888. made.

  889. Wonderful

  890. are your

  891. works.

  892. My soul

  893. knows it

  894. very well.

  895. Verse 17

  896. and 18

  897. same way.

  898. How precious

  899. to me

  900. are your

  901. thoughts

  902. of God.

  903. How vast

  904. is the sum

  905. of them.

  906. David is

  907. expressing

  908. praise and

  909. awe at

  910. God's

  911. greatness

  912. and goodness

  913. in general

  914. and specifically

  915. in his

  916. life.

  917. like David.

  918. If we'll

  919. just sometimes

  920. just think

  921. about how

  922. God made

  923. me.

  924. How God

  925. works in

  926. me.

  927. Works out

  928. his plan

  929. in my life

  930. through good

  931. times and

  932. bad.

  933. God's

  934. sovereign.

  935. God's in

  936. control.

  937. It'll cause

  938. us to praise

  939. him.

  940. It'll cause

  941. us to be

  942. in awe

  943. that he

  944. could love

  945. us and

  946. bless us

  947. and do

  948. in us

  949. the kinds

  950. of things

  951. that he

  952. does.

  953. But I

  954. want us

  955. to look at

  956. one final

  957. application

  958. of what

  959. we've seen

  960. in all

  961. these verses

  962. this morning.

  963. The fact

  964. that God

  965. made us

  966. and even

  967. planned out

  968. our lives,

  969. that is

  970. foundational.

  971. Two things.

  972. As creator,

  973. God designed

  974. human life

  975. to be

  976. sacred.

  977. As David

  978. describes himself

  979. in verse

  980. 13,

  981. he understood

  982. from the

  983. time of

  984. my

  985. conception,

  986. he was a

  987. unique

  988. individual,

  989. human being

  990. growing inside

  991. his mother's

  992. womb.

  993. This shows

  994. us clearly

  995. that every

  996. child,

  997. every single

  998. child

  999. conceived,

  1000. growing in

  1001. his or her

  1002. mother's womb,

  1003. is a special

  1004. creation of

  1005. God,

  1006. a human

  1007. being,

  1008. created in

  1009. God's image

  1010. of extreme

  1011. worth and

  1012. value and

  1013. dignity.

  1014. And that

  1015. life in that

  1016. womb should be

  1017. protected,

  1018. should be

  1019. honored,

  1020. should be

  1021. taken care of.

  1022. And you know

  1023. where I'm going

  1024. with this.

  1025. This helps us

  1026. see as clearly

  1027. as any other

  1028. passage in

  1029. Scripture,

  1030. abortion is

  1031. murder.

  1032. It is the

  1033. taking of a

  1034. human life,

  1035. a human life

  1036. that is just as

  1037. valuable on the

  1038. side of God,

  1039. inside the

  1040. mother's womb,

  1041. as any life you

  1042. can see here

  1043. right now,

  1044. this morning.

  1045. we need to

  1046. honor life from

  1047. conception on.

  1048. We need to

  1049. understand that

  1050. that which is

  1051. growing inside a

  1052. woman is not

  1053. just mere

  1054. tissue.

  1055. It is a

  1056. human

  1057. baby

  1058. created in

  1059. the image of

  1060. God.

  1061. God has a

  1062. plan for that

  1063. child.

  1064. And we need to

  1065. honor that

  1066. life.

  1067. Secondly,

  1068. as creator,

  1069. God determined

  1070. human sex

  1071. or gender

  1072. to be fixed.

  1073. I want you to

  1074. look one more

  1075. time at

  1076. Genesis 127.

  1077. God created

  1078. human beings

  1079. like this.

  1080. So God created

  1081. man in His

  1082. image and in

  1083. the image of

  1084. God He

  1085. created them.

  1086. Male and

  1087. female He

  1088. created them.

  1089. God created

  1090. human beings

  1091. in two ways.

  1092. Everybody's

  1093. either a

  1094. male or

  1095. they are a

  1096. female.

  1097. male.

  1098. One or the

  1099. other.

  1100. And our

  1101. anatomy

  1102. tells us

  1103. what sex

  1104. or gender

  1105. we are.

  1106. If you have

  1107. male anatomy,

  1108. you are a

  1109. male.

  1110. If you have

  1111. female anatomy,

  1112. you are

  1113. a female.

  1114. Our bodies

  1115. do not lie

  1116. to us.

  1117. God made

  1118. us this

  1119. way.

  1120. If you have

  1121. a problem

  1122. accepting that,

  1123. if you

  1124. think,

  1125. you look at

  1126. yourself in

  1127. the mirror,

  1128. you know,

  1129. I am

  1130. made

  1131. biologically

  1132. a male.

  1133. But I

  1134. just feel

  1135. like I

  1136. should live

  1137. my life as

  1138. a woman.

  1139. I feel like

  1140. I'm a woman

  1141. trapped in a

  1142. male body.

  1143. I want you

  1144. to understand,

  1145. you do

  1146. not have

  1147. a physical

  1148. problem.

  1149. You have

  1150. a psychological

  1151. problem.

  1152. I want you

  1153. to understand

  1154. that.

  1155. Same thing

  1156. goes true.

  1157. If you

  1158. are

  1159. biologically

  1160. a female,

  1161. but you

  1162. just think,

  1163. I just feel

  1164. like I've

  1165. got to live

  1166. my life as

  1167. a male,

  1168. you're

  1169. confused.

  1170. Here's what

  1171. I want you

  1172. to understand.

  1173. Now,

  1174. if you have

  1175. these kind

  1176. of feelings,

  1177. you need

  1178. to seek

  1179. true

  1180. help

  1181. from

  1182. committed

  1183. Christians

  1184. who understand

  1185. Scripture,

  1186. who have

  1187. a good

  1188. understanding

  1189. of what

  1190. the kind

  1191. of thing,

  1192. the kind

  1193. of issues

  1194. you're

  1195. dealing

  1196. with,

  1197. and will

  1198. try to

  1199. actually help

  1200. you.

  1201. One thing

  1202. that we're

  1203. doing a study

  1204. in my Sunday

  1205. school class

  1206. talking about

  1207. male,

  1208. female stuff,

  1209. and Matt

  1210. Chandler is

  1211. the actual

  1212. teacher on

  1213. video,

  1214. and one

  1215. thing he

  1216. said in

  1217. our last

  1218. week's study

  1219. that just

  1220. stood out

  1221. to me

  1222. that's so

  1223. true,

  1224. the church

  1225. of Jesus

  1226. Christ needs

  1227. to be a

  1228. safe haven

  1229. for every

  1230. human being

  1231. with any

  1232. kind of

  1233. problem.

  1234. And I

  1235. want you

  1236. to hear

  1237. that.

  1238. If you

  1239. struggle

  1240. with your

  1241. sex or

  1242. gender

  1243. identity,

  1244. if you

  1245. don't know

  1246. someone to

  1247. try to

  1248. help you,

  1249. you talk

  1250. to me,

  1251. and I'm

  1252. not going

  1253. to berate

  1254. you or

  1255. do anything

  1256. negative,

  1257. say anything

  1258. negative to

  1259. you.

  1260. I will

  1261. try to

  1262. help you.

  1263. The

  1264. church,

  1265. we will

  1266. try to

  1267. help you,

  1268. but it is

  1269. not helping

  1270. you to say

  1271. to you,

  1272. you just

  1273. be whatever

  1274. you feel

  1275. you ought

  1276. to be.

  1277. That is

  1278. a lie.

  1279. That will

  1280. lead to

  1281. even more

  1282. confusion and

  1283. misery because

  1284. you'll be

  1285. living your

  1286. life according

  1287. to the

  1288. opposite of

  1289. the way

  1290. God designed

  1291. you to

  1292. live.

  1293. It is

  1294. not our

  1295. choice as

  1296. to whether

  1297. we live as

  1298. male or

  1299. female.

  1300. God

  1301. designed

  1302. that.

  1303. God

  1304. determined

  1305. that when

  1306. He created

  1307. us,

  1308. either male

  1309. or female.

  1310. And if

  1311. you have

  1312. confusion

  1313. about that,

  1314. doubts

  1315. about that,

  1316. you need

  1317. to seek

  1318. help.

  1319. It is a

  1320. psychological

  1321. problem

  1322. that can

  1323. be addressed,

  1324. that you

  1325. can be

  1326. helped,

  1327. but you've

  1328. got to

  1329. seek it.

  1330. And the

  1331. way to

  1332. begin is

  1333. saying,

  1334. God is

  1335. God.

  1336. He is

  1337. the creator.

  1338. He determines

  1339. these things,

  1340. not me.

  1341. I'm the

  1342. creation.

  1343. And I

  1344. will

  1345. submit to

  1346. the

  1347. authority

  1348. and the

  1349. things that

  1350. God says

  1351. as my

  1352. creator.

  1353. Let's go

  1354. back to

  1355. the main

  1356. point of

  1357. these verses

  1358. to conclude.

  1359. God has

  1360. created and

  1361. shaped each

  1362. of us

  1363. into the

  1364. person He

  1365. wants us

  1366. to be

  1367. in order to

  1368. carry out

  1369. the purpose

  1370. He has

  1371. for our

  1372. lives.

  1373. He made

  1374. us.

  1375. He's got a

  1376. purpose for

  1377. us.

  1378. And the

  1379. question is,

  1380. are you

  1381. cooperating with

  1382. God about

  1383. this?

  1384. Are you

  1385. seeking to be

  1386. the person

  1387. He created

  1388. you to

  1389. be with

  1390. His help?

  1391. Are you

  1392. seeking to

  1393. do His

  1394. will and

  1395. serve the

  1396. purpose He

  1397. created you

  1398. for?

  1399. And just

  1400. start where

  1401. you are.

  1402. Start where

  1403. you are in

  1404. your home,

  1405. where you

  1406. work,

  1407. in this

  1408. church,

  1409. where you

  1410. are in

  1411. life.

  1412. Be faithful

  1413. to be the

  1414. person that

  1415. God's called

  1416. you to be

  1417. there.

  1418. Fulfill that

  1419. purpose at

  1420. this point

  1421. in your

  1422. life.

  1423. But the

  1424. only way

  1425. we can

  1426. do this

  1427. is to

  1428. truly have

  1429. a right

  1430. relationship

  1431. with Jesus

  1432. Christ.

  1433. And if

  1434. you don't,

  1435. if you

  1436. don't know

  1437. Him,

  1438. I want to

  1439. encourage you

  1440. right now,

  1441. if you will

  1442. admit to

  1443. God that

  1444. you don't

  1445. know Him,

  1446. that you

  1447. are a

  1448. sinner before

  1449. Him,

  1450. you're seeking

  1451. to live life

  1452. your way

  1453. instead of

  1454. His way,

  1455. if you'll

  1456. confess that,

  1457. if you'll

  1458. repent of

  1459. that,

  1460. turn from

  1461. that,

  1462. that mindset,

  1463. that way

  1464. of life,

  1465. put your

  1466. trust in

  1467. Jesus Christ,

  1468. that He

  1469. actually paid

  1470. the penalty

  1471. for your

  1472. sins when

  1473. He died

  1474. on the

  1475. cross.

  1476. If you'll

  1477. call upon

  1478. Him to

  1479. save you,

  1480. forgive you,

  1481. He will.

  1482. In fact,

  1483. God will

  1484. put His

  1485. Spirit in

  1486. you,

  1487. He'll

  1488. make you

  1489. new,

  1490. He'll

  1491. cleanse

  1492. you,

  1493. He'll

  1494. give you

  1495. a fresh

  1496. start.

  1497. You might

  1498. think to

  1499. yourself this

  1500. morning,

  1501. I am a

  1502. Christian,

  1503. there's no

  1504. doubt,

  1505. I know what

  1506. you're talking

  1507. about,

  1508. but I'm

  1509. not as close

  1510. to Him now

  1511. as I used

  1512. to be,

  1513. and really

  1514. as I want

  1515. to be.

  1516. I haven't

  1517. been so

  1518. concerned here

  1519. lately about

  1520. serving the

  1521. purpose that

  1522. He has for

  1523. me,

  1524. because I've

  1525. been too

  1526. busy serving

  1527. my own

  1528. purpose.

  1529. That's a

  1530. problem.

  1531. That's a

  1532. rebellion.

  1533. That's you

  1534. trying to live

  1535. as the

  1536. Creator instead

  1537. of God.

  1538. And the

  1539. way to solve

  1540. that problem

  1541. is to admit

  1542. your sin and

  1543. repent of

  1544. that.

  1545. Come back to

  1546. Christ in

  1547. renewed

  1548. commitment,

  1549. faith,

  1550. surrender.

  1551. Tell God,

  1552. I've made a

  1553. mess of

  1554. things living

  1555. life my

  1556. way.

  1557. I want to

  1558. come back

  1559. to you and

  1560. start one

  1561. day at a

  1562. time living

  1563. life your

  1564. way.

  1565. Listen to

  1566. the Lord and

  1567. do whatever

  1568. it is He tells

  1569. you to do in

  1570. response to

  1571. His Word this

  1572. morning.

  1573. Would you pray

  1574. with me?

  1575. Dear God,

  1576. help us to

  1577. see now how

  1578. we need to

  1579. respond in

  1580. light of the

  1581. fact that

  1582. you've made

  1583. us and

  1584. you've made

  1585. us for a

  1586. purpose.

  1587. Help us,

  1588. Father, to

  1589. see how we

  1590. need to

  1591. respond so

  1592. that we can

  1593. demonstrate to

  1594. you that we

  1595. trust you in

  1596. the details of

  1597. life.

  1598. Help us,

  1599. dear God,

  1600. to quit being

  1601. so anxious and

  1602. stressed out

  1603. about everything

  1604. going on around

  1605. about us.

  1606. Help us to

  1607. truly trust that

  1608. you are our

  1609. Heavenly Father.

  1610. You know us

  1611. better than

  1612. anyone because

  1613. you made us.

  1614. And help us to

  1615. trust you that

  1616. you're working out

  1617. your good purpose

  1618. in our lives,

  1619. in the bad

  1620. times as well

  1621. as good.

  1622. in an attitude

  1623. of prayer,

  1624. you just do

  1625. what God

  1626. tells you to

  1627. do and

  1628. He'll be

  1629. pleased if

  1630. you're obedient

  1631. to Him.

  1632. I'd be happy

  1633. to pray with

  1634. you if you

  1635. would like to

  1636. come forward

  1637. during this

  1638. time.

  1639. Just listen to

  1640. the Lord and

  1641. obey Him.

  1642. That's the

  1643. important thing.

  1644. of
