  1. You know, one of the deepest longings in the human heart is for justice.

  2. You may not have thought about one of the deepest longings of your heart is for justice.

  3. But I'm going to say that it is.

  4. And it started when you were a child.

  5. It starts when all of us are children.

  6. When we utter these words, that's not fair.

  7. That's not fair.

  8. How young are we when we first say that?

  9. How young are our children and grandchildren when we first hear from their lips?

  10. But it's not fair.

  11. We've all said these words as children.

  12. The truth is, if we've not said them as adults, we've thought them, haven't we?

  13. Every adult in this room, you have already figured out, no matter how young you are, you've already figured out.

  14. This thing about life being unfair doesn't stop at childhood.

  15. It continues on, doesn't it?

  16. We know from experience that this thing about fairness or unfairness, it only gets worse.

  17. I guess one way to say it is just make it real clear.

  18. Life is not fair.

  19. And you are denying reality if you think life is going to be fair everywhere you turn in this world.

  20. You're in for great disappointment.

  21. But here's the good news.

  22. Life in this world is not all there is.

  23. God is going to bring this world as we know it to an end one day.

  24. And then He is going to create a new heaven and a new earth, the Scripture tells us.

  25. And in this new heaven and new earth, everything will be perfect.

  26. There will only be fairness or justice.

  27. Everything will be right.

  28. And you'll know it's right in eternity.

  29. But before He makes all things new, God is going to bring this world to a point of judgment.

  30. A point of judgment.

  31. We saw last week in the book of Ecclesiastes, the first part of chapter 3, there's a time for everything under heaven.

  32. There's a time to be born, a time to die, a time to do everything under the heavens.

  33. Well, this morning we're going to look specifically, there is a time for judgment at the end of our lives.

  34. Or we could call it a time for justice.

  35. I want you to read with me this morning just three verses.

  36. Chapter 3, verses 16 and 17.

  37. And then chapter 4, verse 1.

  38. Let's read it together.

  39. Moreover, I saw under the sun that in the place of justice, even there was wickedness.

  40. And in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.

  41. I said in my heart, God will judge the righteous and the wicked.

  42. There is a time for every matter and for every work.

  43. Look now in chapter 4, verse 1.

  44. Again, I saw all the oppressions that are done under the sun.

  45. And behold, the tears of the oppressed.

  46. And they had no one to comfort them.

  47. On the side of their oppressors, there was power.

  48. And there was no one to comfort them.

  49. These verses tell us why we need a time of judgment.

  50. First, a time of judgment is needed because of the widespread wickedness in this world.

  51. That's what he's talking about with the word injustice in chapter 3, verse 16.

  52. And the word oppression in chapter 4, verse 1.

  53. Look at, if you would, at how the preacher, as the writer of Ecclesiastes refers to himself.

  54. How he describes this particular form of injustice.

  55. Verse 16.

  56. In the place of justice, before a judge.

  57. In the court system.

  58. That's what he's talking about.

  59. In the place of justice, even there was wickedness.

  60. And in the place of righteousness.

  61. In the place before the judge, before the court.

  62. We expect things to be done rightly.

  63. We expect right to take place.

  64. And in the place of righteousness, even there was wickedness.

  65. He's talking about an unjust judge.

  66. An unjust court system.

  67. The very place that we expect the right thing to be done.

  68. Fairness to prevail.

  69. The very place we expect and most need to experience justice.

  70. He's telling us, sometimes it turns out to be a place of unfairness.

  71. This is not merely a frustrating experience, although it would be.

  72. He's talking about a demoralizing situation.

  73. Look at how Martin Luther, the reformer, described this.

  74. He said that the preacher is not complaining because there is wickedness in the place of justice,

  75. but because the wickedness in the place of justice cannot be corrected.

  76. I want you to think about it.

  77. If you can't find justice when you go to court.

  78. If you can't find it when you stand before a judge.

  79. You're not going to be able to find it.

  80. It's not going to be a possibility.

  81. The judge who is supposed to be fair and impartial.

  82. If he's not, there's no hope that we'll be treated fairly.

  83. That's the picture he's painting here.

  84. Injustice is everywhere.

  85. He does not imply that every court's that way, every judge is that way,

  86. every person you know is that way.

  87. He's talking about what we all know, generally speaking, life is not fair.

  88. Now the problem with oppression in chapter 4, verse 1, is equally hopeless.

  89. The oppressors, it says, were the people in power.

  90. The people who were suffering, people who were being oppressed,

  91. taken advantage of, mistreated, they had no power.

  92. It's the ones who were oppressing them, mistreating them, taking advantage of them.

  93. They were the power brokers.

  94. And as such, what could people do?

  95. It's hopeless.

  96. You know, we live in a world filled with people in this same kind of situation.

  97. Let's just think for a moment, away from our country, right this very moment.

  98. There are tens of thousands of Christians who live in fear

  99. because they are a minority, a persecuted minority where they live.

  100. There are Christians this morning who have no home to go to

  101. because they've been put out by their family who is of another faith,

  102. and they consider their child, even as an adult,

  103. who has professed faith in Jesus.

  104. They consider that child to have become a pagan.

  105. They consider that they no longer live, even, in some of them's sight.

  106. There are communities today where a person who's become a Christian,

  107. he can't work.

  108. They won't let him have a job.

  109. They won't let him make a living for his family.

  110. There are people right now, in this world, this moment,

  111. breathing the same air we are.

  112. They're suffering all because of their faith in Jesus,

  113. and they're suffering unjustly at the hands of their family members,

  114. their community, their government.

  115. Some of them are in prison right now.

  116. Here's what's so sad.

  117. There's not one thing they can do about it.

  118. There's nowhere on earth for them to turn.

  119. There's no one who can really help them, make things right for them.

  120. Let's look closer to home now.

  121. In this country, think about how many women suffer abuse

  122. at the hands of wicked and cowardly men

  123. who threaten to kill them if they tell anyone

  124. or if they call the police.

  125. They're afraid because of the power being exerted over them,

  126. they're afraid to do anything.

  127. Children are horribly abused by their own wicked parents

  128. or by a wicked parent's boyfriend or girlfriend.

  129. We read about it all the time.

  130. Whether you get your news from the newspaper,

  131. online, on TV,

  132. mugshots every day, new ones nearly every day,

  133. of people in upstate South Carolina

  134. who are beating, some even killing their spouse or girlfriend.

  135. Parents not just beating but torturing their children.

  136. That is happening here in the upstate,

  137. here in Pickens County.

  138. And many of these children are either too young to know what to do,

  139. too young to tell,

  140. or they're too afraid to say anything.

  141. But when an abused woman or child does tell,

  142. when they do muster up the courage,

  143. they take the risk,

  144. it doesn't automatically mean they're going to be rescued.

  145. The courts and social agencies,

  146. they have more cases than they have people to work.

  147. There's a backlog.

  148. And then sometimes,

  149. some of those severe cases,

  150. when they do get dealt with,

  151. there are situations where the abuser's dealt with too leniently.

  152. And the court does nothing.

  153. The social agency won't remove the child.

  154. And so the abuser continues.

  155. And there's no protection for the victim.

  156. There's no hope.

  157. One of the most frustrating examples of injustice in this country

  158. is the way our United States Supreme Court

  159. allows the execution of innocent babies

  160. in their mother's womb by abortion.

  161. Now the Supreme Court justifies themselves.

  162. They say it is a mother's choice,

  163. and that's the end of it.

  164. But the voice of truth and justice clearly said,

  165. it's a baby's life.

  166. Now you think about it.

  167. In this country,

  168. one of the greatest examples of wickedness in power

  169. is the United States Supreme Court's rulings like this.

  170. It's all about the woman's choice.

  171. And that little baby with a heart beating,

  172. fully human, living individual

  173. has no one to speak for them.

  174. And so at the whim of a mother,

  175. at the scalpel of a doctor,

  176. their lives are taken, destroyed.

  177. The world is filled with people

  178. who oppress the weak,

  179. care nothing about people being treated fairly or justly.

  180. But the Bible is clear that God takes a strong stand

  181. against such people.

  182. I want you to hear me.

  183. God takes a strong stand against all abusers,

  184. whether they break the law or not.

  185. God hates a lack of justice.

  186. He hates those who oppress,

  187. take advantage of people because they can.

  188. God opposes all who abuse their power and privilege

  189. by mistreating people.

  190. The Old Testament prophets are filled

  191. with all kinds of warnings about such.

  192. The book of Zechariah lists the kinds of people

  193. who are most likely to be oppressed.

  194. I want you to look at the list here.

  195. Widows, orphans, foreigners,

  196. actually aliens living in the land,

  197. and the poor.

  198. You need to understand,

  199. God has a special place in His heart

  200. for the widow, for the orphan,

  201. for the alien living in His land,

  202. and for the poor.

  203. And if God has a special place in His heart for them,

  204. so should we as God's children.

  205. Look back in chapter 3, verses 16 and 17.

  206. The preacher wants us to know

  207. that while we live in a world

  208. of much injustice and oppression,

  209. it's not always going to be that way.

  210. The day of judgment will come.

  211. Look at verse 17 again.

  212. God will judge the righteous and the wicked,

  213. for there is a time for every matter

  214. and for every work.

  215. We need to take comfort in that statement

  216. if we're believers.

  217. That should encourage us.

  218. God will one day make everything right.

  219. We can trust Him to do that.

  220. He said He would and He will.

  221. That does not mean that we should give up on the idea

  222. of trying to do what we can

  223. to make things just,

  224. to try to help people become treated fairly.

  225. We need to do whatever we can

  226. to oppose oppression and injustice

  227. in this world, in this community.

  228. Everywhere.

  229. You know, we ought to do more

  230. as people of the community,

  231. voters,

  232. people who are able to run for office,

  233. we ought to do more

  234. to try to create situations

  235. where the court has to act quicker than they do.

  236. Where social agencies are forced

  237. to get involved in these crisis situations

  238. where children and women's lives

  239. are on the line.

  240. We need to support Christian organizations

  241. that are trying to help victims of abuse,

  242. women who've been abused,

  243. children and the poor.

  244. We need to help these agencies.

  245. We need to be a part of them.

  246. And we can and must take responsibility

  247. to make sure our home

  248. and our church are safe places

  249. where injustice and abuse are not tolerated.

  250. You know, we're trying to do what we can

  251. here at the church,

  252. making every effort on this church campus

  253. to provide a safe environment.

  254. A lot of things are taking place.

  255. Not just physically,

  256. but emotionally.

  257. You know, if you ever want to work

  258. with children or youth,

  259. or you're a part of that,

  260. you're asked to do background checks.

  261. And we're being asked to do that

  262. every year now,

  263. I believe the situation is.

  264. And you think,

  265. that's a pain.

  266. It sure is.

  267. It's just plain aggravating.

  268. And it costs us money

  269. to do a background check

  270. on everybody every year.

  271. But I want to tell you something.

  272. Children are worth it.

  273. Because we want to ferret out

  274. any possible child,

  275. abuser, or molester.

  276. And there'll be no tolerance.

  277. This will be a no tolerance zone

  278. when it comes to the safety

  279. and well-being of our children.

  280. No tolerance zone

  281. here for the welfare of our children.

  282. But there ought to be that in your home.

  283. Think about it.

  284. You need to make sure

  285. that your home

  286. is a safe place emotionally

  287. as well as physically.

  288. And one of the best ways to do that

  289. is for you as parents

  290. and as children

  291. to make sure that Jesus Christ

  292. really is the Lord of your home.

  293. To make sure it is He

  294. who is building your home.

  295. Because the psalmist tells us

  296. if He's not the one building

  297. those who labor,

  298. labor in vain.

  299. We have a responsibility

  300. as individual Christians,

  301. as a church,

  302. as a community,

  303. to do anything that we can

  304. to promote justice.

  305. That which is right

  306. for people

  307. and especially people

  308. who cannot do it for themselves.

  309. But the sad truth is

  310. no matter how hard we try,

  311. as long as we live

  312. in this fallen world,

  313. there is going to be

  314. oppression

  315. and injustice.

  316. Women and children

  317. are going to continue

  318. to be abused.

  319. Police officers

  320. are going to continue

  321. to do their best

  322. to fight crime.

  323. Some of them

  324. are going to be killed

  325. in the line of duty

  326. as they are trying

  327. to enforce the laws

  328. and bring about justice

  329. for everyone.

  330. This is sad to say,

  331. but there is always

  332. going to be corruption

  333. in government and business.

  334. There is always

  335. going to be corruption

  336. where people are.

  337. Because we are sinners

  338. at heart.

  339. Now,

  340. while we don't have

  341. the power or wisdom

  342. to end all injustice

  343. and oppression,

  344. God does.

  345. And He promises

  346. to do so

  347. one day.

  348. Look next.

  349. A time of judgment

  350. is coming

  351. that will confirm

  352. that the universe

  353. God created

  354. is ultimately

  355. just

  356. or fair.

  357. Here in Ecclesiastes,

  358. the preacher makes it clear

  359. throughout his book,

  360. life's going to end

  361. for everybody one day.

  362. Face the reality.

  363. No matter what you do,

  364. no matter what you build,

  365. no matter what you acquire,

  366. you're going to lose it all

  367. one day because you're

  368. going to die

  369. and you can't take it

  370. with you.

  371. And when death comes,

  372. we will all stand

  373. before God

  374. and give an account

  375. of how we've lived.

  376. There's going to be

  377. a day of judgment,

  378. He says,

  379. for the righteous

  380. and the unrighteous.

  381. But it is also

  382. strategically repeated.

  383. This same statement

  384. about judgment

  385. is strategically repeated

  386. as the very last sentence

  387. of the book

  388. of Ecclesiastes.

  389. Look,

  390. in chapter 12,

  391. verse 14,

  392. for God will bring

  393. every deed

  394. into judgment

  395. with every secret thing

  396. for the good or evil.

  397. See,

  398. the writer of Ecclesiastes,

  399. Solomon,

  400. he wants us

  401. to be clear.

  402. In the end,

  403. it matters

  404. how we live

  405. because we're going

  406. to stand before God

  407. and give an account

  408. of how we've lived.

  409. Now,

  410. one of the things

  411. that we need

  412. to understand,

  413. God's judgment

  414. is good.

  415. It has many

  416. good purposes.

  417. One is,

  418. it reveals God,

  419. that God is concerned.

  420. He does care about

  421. justice or fairness

  422. in this world.

  423. When Paul tells,

  424. think for a moment,

  425. God cares

  426. about things

  427. being right,

  428. people being treated

  429. properly.

  430. God's no respecter

  431. of persons.

  432. The apostle Paul

  433. helps us

  434. understand how God

  435. wants things to be,

  436. intends for things

  437. to be,

  438. and will make things

  439. one day.

  440. Look at what Paul said

  441. to slaves

  442. who were being mistreated

  443. by their masters.

  444. They couldn't rebel,

  445. they couldn't do anything.

  446. He tells them

  447. to be submissive

  448. to their masters,

  449. and he assures them

  450. that God will one day

  451. make all things right.

  452. Look at it.

  453. For the wrongdoer

  454. will be paid back

  455. for the wrong

  456. he has done,

  457. and there is

  458. no partiality.

  459. He's saying,

  460. you can't help

  461. what's going on,

  462. and you can't do

  463. anything about it

  464. as a lowly slave

  465. in the Roman Empire.

  466. But God,

  467. he is not partial

  468. to the slave owner.

  469. That person

  470. who's abused you

  471. will be paid back

  472. for the wrong

  473. he has done.

  474. The word of God says.

  475. Paul found comfort

  476. in that idea himself.

  477. He demonstrated

  478. that he was trusting God

  479. to take care

  480. of his own enemies.

  481. Here's a good example.

  482. In his letter to Timothy,

  483. look at what he said.

  484. He's writing to Timothy

  485. for like his son

  486. in the faith,

  487. Alexander the coppersmith

  488. did me great harm.

  489. The Lord will repay him

  490. according to his deeds.

  491. Alexander the coppersmith

  492. did me great harm.

  493. Paul didn't say,

  494. but I'm just going to let it go.

  495. He was concerned

  496. because the great harm

  497. was Alexander

  498. was opposing Paul's ministry,

  499. opposing the gospel,

  500. opposing the word of God.

  501. Look at it,

  502. what he goes on to say.

  503. Now,

  504. beware of him yourself

  505. for he strongly opposed

  506. our message.

  507. One way to say this,

  508. Paul is saying,

  509. he'll reap what he's sown.

  510. He has harmed me,

  511. but the Lord will pay him,

  512. repay him

  513. according to his deeds.

  514. He's going to reap

  515. what he's sown.

  516. God is just.

  517. He's going to make

  518. everything right.

  519. You know,

  520. you may be sitting there

  521. thinking to yourself,

  522. I have suffered unjustly

  523. in the past.

  524. And you're still having

  525. a hard time dealing with it.

  526. In fact,

  527. you may be sitting here

  528. and the truth is

  529. you're plotting your revenge.

  530. You've been plotting

  531. your revenge for years.

  532. It could be that you're just

  533. unwilling to forgive that person.

  534. It may be that you're just,

  535. you've let it make you bitter.

  536. And vengeful.

  537. You won't even consider

  538. the idea of forgiveness.

  539. It could be that you're just,

  540. you're not going to do

  541. anything yourself,

  542. but you're watching

  543. and waiting

  544. and maybe even praying

  545. that that person

  546. who's hurt you,

  547. that they will suffer

  548. some kind of tragedy

  549. and you'll get to see

  550. them suffer

  551. just as they made you suffer.

  552. Well, as Christians,

  553. we know that such attitudes

  554. are wrong,

  555. but let's be honest,

  556. they're understandable.

  557. Such attitudes

  558. are understandable,

  559. but before God

  560. they are unacceptable.

  561. Scripture is clear.

  562. Look at this

  563. from Romans chapter 12.

    Romans 12 chapter mention

  564. Paul says,

  565. do not repay anyone

  566. evil for evil.

  567. Be careful to do

  568. what is right,

  569. just,

  570. in the eyes of everyone.

  571. As we live in this world

  572. as Christians

  573. and people wrong us,

  574. it is not pleasing to God

  575. for us to just wrong them back.

  576. As Christians,

  577. we have a responsibility.

  578. No matter what happens to us,

  579. we need to do what's right.

  580. Now, to do what's right

  581. doesn't mean that you

  582. become a doormat

  583. to the world.

  584. Doesn't mean you have,

  585. you cannot defend yourself

  586. or your family.

  587. But this idea of

  588. always getting revenge,

  589. always giving back

  590. what somebody gave you

  591. or worse,

  592. that's not,

  593. that's not how

  594. God calls us to live.

  595. We are responsible

  596. not for what people

  597. do to us,

  598. but what we do to people.

  599. And just,

  600. that's a good way

  601. to say it.

  602. Be careful to do

  603. what's right.

  604. You do what's right.

  605. You do what's honorable,

  606. the ESV says.

  607. Do what's right

  608. in honorable eyes

  609. of everyone.

  610. The Bible clearly tells us

  611. not to seek revenge,

  612. but

  613. it does not say,

  614. well, just forget about

  615. the injustice

  616. that has

  617. happened to you.

  618. it does not say,

  619. forget about

  620. how you were

  621. mistreated.

  622. No.

  623. It tells us to trust God

  624. to avenge us.

  625. There is going to be

  626. payback

  627. for those who have

  628. wronged us.

  629. There is going to be

  630. payback for the wicked

  631. people in this world

  632. who have abused

  633. and oppressed

  634. people that

  635. they had power over.

  636. But God's going to do it.

  637. Look at chapter 12

  638. of Romans again,

  639. verse 19.

  640. He says,

  641. Beloved,

  642. never avenge yourselves,

  643. but leave it to the

  644. wrath of God,

  645. for it is written,

  646. vengeance is mine,

  647. I will repay,

  648. says the Lord.

  649. God is not

  650. just letting

  651. everything go

  652. in this life

  653. and just sort of,

  654. God's not just

  655. giving up

  656. and said,

  657. the world's unjust,

  658. just forget about it.

  659. God's keeping records.

  660. God settles scores.

  661. I want you to look

  662. at a lengthier statement,

  663. one of the strongest

  664. statements along this line

  665. in the New Testament.

  666. It's found in

  667. 2 Thessalonians

    2 Thessalonians 1 chapter mention

  668. chapter 1.

  669. Paul is writing

  670. to Christians

  671. who have experienced

  672. a lot of persecution.

  673. They've suffered

  674. for their faith.

  675. Look at what he says.

  676. God is just.

  677. He will pay back

  678. trouble to those

  679. who trouble you

  680. and give relief

  681. to you who are

  682. troubled

  683. and to us as well.

  684. This will happen

  685. when the Lord Jesus

  686. is revealed

  687. from heaven

  688. in blazing fire

  689. with his powerful angels.

  690. At the second

  691. coming of Christ,

  692. that's when

  693. the Lord's going to

  694. wind everything up

  695. in this world.

  696. That's when there'll be

  697. a day of judgment.

  698. And after that,

  699. there will be

  700. the new heaven

  701. and new earth.

  702. Look at what else

  703. he says.

  704. He will punish

  705. those who do not

  706. know God

  707. and do not obey

  708. the gospel

  709. of our Lord Jesus.

  710. But he will not

  711. punish

  712. those who do

  713. know God

  714. and those who

  715. have believed

  716. the gospel

  717. of the Lord Jesus.

  718. See, as Christians,

  719. when it comes

  720. to our eternal

  721. destiny,

  722. if our faith

  723. and trust

  724. is truly in Jesus,

  725. then the penalty

  726. for our sins

  727. has been paid

  728. by him.

  729. And his

  730. righteous,

  731. perfect life

  732. has been credited

  733. to us

  734. through faith

  735. in him.

  736. We do not

  737. have to worry

  738. about that

  739. kind of judgment,

  740. a punitive judgment.

  741. But let's read on.

  742. those who do not

  743. believe the good

  744. news about Jesus,

  745. those who do not

  746. know God,

  747. look at the next

  748. sentence,

  749. they will be punished

  750. with everlasting

  751. destruction

  752. and shut out

  753. from the presence

  754. of the Lord

  755. and from the glory

  756. of his might

  757. on the day he comes

  758. to be glorified

  759. in his holy people

  760. and to be marveled

  761. at among all

  762. those who have

  763. believed.

  764. This includes you

  765. because you

  766. believed our

  767. testimony to you.

  768. God will make

  769. everything right.

  770. He promises

  771. his people

  772. to wait on him

  773. and to count

  774. on him.

  775. The world we live

  776. in is filled

  777. with injustice

  778. and oppression.

  779. If we can do

  780. something about it,

  781. it's our duty

  782. to act.

  783. If we can do

  784. something,

  785. we should do

  786. something.

  787. We can't right

  788. every wrong.

  789. And we cannot

  790. make life

  791. in this world

  792. fair.

  793. But as God's

  794. people,

  795. we can be

  796. confident

  797. that God

  798. will.

  799. He will

  800. right every wrong.

  801. He will,

  802. as Paul says,

  803. pay back trouble

  804. to those who've

  805. troubled you.

  806. He'll wipe away

  807. every tear.

  808. tear.

  809. He'll wipe away

  810. every tear

  811. that's been

  812. shed as a

  813. result of

  814. abuse,

  815. of oppression,

  816. and injustice.

  817. One day,

  818. God's going to

  819. make everything

  820. right.

  821. He's going to

  822. make everything

  823. peaceful.

  824. He's going to

  825. make everything

  826. and every day

  827. joyful.

  828. He's going to

  829. make everything

  830. perfect for his

  831. faithful people.

  832. and he's going

  833. to do this

  834. for all

  835. eternity.

  836. We can

  837. count on it.

  838. This is how

  839. we'll live

  840. forever.

  841. You know,

  842. we can't,

  843. we can't

  844. often see how.

  845. And it may

  846. never make sense

  847. to us,

  848. but God can

  849. and does use

  850. sin and evil

  851. and failure

  852. and futility

  853. and suffering

  854. for his

  855. eternal good

  856. purpose.

  857. Like I say,

  858. we can't see

  859. how sometimes.

  860. You may be

  861. going through

  862. something right

  863. now or have

  864. gone through

  865. something and

  866. you think,

  867. I don't see

  868. how any good

  869. can ever come

  870. from it.

  871. That's a fact.

  872. But in the

  873. big scheme of

  874. things,

  875. God is working

  876. everything

  877. according to

  878. his good

  879. purpose and

  880. in the end,

  881. he's going to

  882. make everything

  883. right.

  884. And the

  885. ultimate example

  886. of this is

  887. the crucifixion

  888. of Jesus.

  889. The greatest

  890. evil that has

  891. ever taken

  892. place in this

  893. world was the

  894. execution of

  895. the Son of

  896. God on the

  897. cross.

  898. Jesus was a

  899. perfect man,

  900. but he was

  901. killed,

  902. crucified as a

  903. criminal.

  904. That great

  905. act of evil

  906. became the

  907. greatest act

  908. of love and

  909. goodness because

  910. it resulted in

  911. the salvation of

  912. sinners.

  913. Our salvation if

  914. we're trusting in

  915. Jesus.

  916. This helps us

  917. see that God

  918. really is working

  919. out his good

  920. plan in this

  921. evil world.

  922. We just have to

  923. trust him.

  924. And I want to

  925. ask you as a

  926. Christian, living

  927. in this unfair

  928. world, experiencing

  929. various kinds of

  930. injustice, are you

  931. trusting God?

  932. Are you doing what

  933. you know to do?

  934. Are you doing what's

  935. right for yourself

  936. and trusting God

  937. to take care of

  938. your enemies?

  939. Trusting God to do

  940. whatever needs to be

  941. done to make things

  942. right?

  943. Are you just seeking

  944. to be with his

  945. help, with his

  946. spirit's power who

  947. lives in you, are you

  948. seeking to do what

  949. you can do and be

  950. faithful to do what's

  951. right because you're

  952. trusting God to take

  953. care of all that's

  954. wrong, that you have

  955. no power or ability to

  956. do anything about?

  957. Or could it be this

  958. morning that you

  959. need to begin a

  960. relationship with God?

  961. It could be all the

  962. things we're talking

  963. about this morning.

  964. The problem is you

  965. know that you're an

  966. oppressor of some

  967. people.

  968. You may know that you

  969. are an abuser, maybe

  970. not in the way of

  971. breaking the law, but

  972. in other ways of some

  973. other people.

  974. Maybe this morning

  975. what God has done is

  976. shown you that you're

  977. the one who needs to

  978. fear judgment because

  979. you're living for

  980. yourself.

  981. You're living opposed to

  982. God.

  983. And that should scare

  984. you.

  985. Hopefully that will

  986. wake you up.

  987. And the good news is

  988. Jesus Christ came into

  989. this world to save

  990. sinners.

  991. And if you'll admit your

  992. need and humble yourself

  993. and turn from your sin

  994. and trust Jesus, call

  995. upon him to save you

  996. now, he will do that.

  997. He will do that now.

  998. Scripture tells us that

  999. whoever calls on the

1000. name of the Lord will be

  1001. saved.

1002. But I want to close with

  1003. a word to Christians.

1004. We, we can be guilty.

1005. Maybe at home, maybe at

  1006. work, maybe among certain

  1007. group of friends or

  1008. acquaintances, we can be

  1009. oppressors at times.

  1010. We can be abusers.

  1011. Verbally, emotionally,

  1012. psychologically, as well as

  1013. physically.

1014. And I want you to hear

  1015. that if you're feeling

  1016. guilt because that word

  1017. abuser, that word

  1018. unfairness, that applies

1019. to you a lot of times.

  1020. Oppression, taking advantage

  1021. of people.

  1022. You need to understand

  1023. you're not pleasing to

  1024. God that way.

1025. You're never going to have

  1026. a right relationship with

  1027. him or to people.

  1028. That's how you're living.

1029. And so it could be that

1030. as a Christian, you know

  1031. it's wrong.

1032. And on a good day, when

1033. all is calm, you have no

  1034. problems.

1035. But when you get under

  1036. stress, things don't go

1037. your way, you just explode

1038. and this stuff comes out of

  1039. your mouth.

1040. It's seen in your face.

1041. It's felt by your actions

  1042. and attitudes by people

1043. that you really do love

1044. and don't want to hurt.

1045. But if that's the case,

1046. you need to confess your

  1047. sin to God.

1048. You need to humble yourself

  1049. and seek his forgiveness

1050. and you need to humble

  1051. yourself and beg the

  1052. forgiveness of those you've

  1053. abused or oppressed or

  1054. mistreated.

1055. They know it and you know

1056. it and God knows it.

1057. God wants us to right all

1058. the wrongs that we can and

1059. we can be confident that

1060. those we have no power over,

1061. he'll right them one day on

  1062. the day of judgment.

  1063. Let's pray together.

1064. Dear God, help us to see how

1065. we should respond right now.

1066. Each one of us is an

  1067. individual.

1068. It's part of this church,

  1069. part of this community.

1070. Father, help us to hate

  1071. injustice, oppression,

  1072. wherever it's found.

1073. Help us to confess our sin

1074. if it's found in our lives.

1075. Help us to intervene if it's

  1076. taking place somewhere where

1077. we know it and we can do

  1078. something about it.

1079. But Lord, help us in

  1080. situations where we are

  1081. powerless.

1082. Help us, dear God, to trust

1083. you and to be confident

1084. that one day, the day of

  1085. judgment, if not before,

1086. you will avenge your people.

1087. You will make things right.

1088. Give us that faith and help us

1089. to do what we know to be right

1090. regardless of how people treat us.

1091. In an attitude of prayer,

1092. listen to the Lord and obey him.

1093. Do what he's calling you to do.

1094. He's calling you to trust

1095. Jesus as your Lord and Savior.

  1096. Do that now.

1097. If I could pray with you,

1098. I'll be here at the front and

1099. would love to do that during

  1100. this time.

1101. Just listen to the Lord and

  1102. obey him.
