  1. I want to turn to Hebrews chapter 10.

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  2. Hebrews chapter 10.

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  3. We're talking about first things first.

  4. And I wanted to come and during the month of May

  5. and be as transparent as I know how to be with you,

  6. full disclosure about if you wonder

  7. what makes the new guy tick,

  8. I want to share with you this month what makes me tick.

  9. I first started talking about the need of

  10. knowing that you are saved.

  11. If someone is haunted by those questions,

  12. it always defeats them in their spiritual walk

  13. as well as limits them in their testimony.

  14. I don't want you to doubt your salvation.

  15. I want you to be sure of that at the same time.

  16. I don't want you to be sure of something that you don't have.

  17. And so if you don't have Jesus,

  18. I want to tell you how you can have Jesus.

  19. And so I began with that

  20. and we took some time to honor our ladies on Mother's Day.

  21. I continued by encouraging you to be in the Word of God daily.

  22. And how many of you read the Word?

  23. No, I'm kidding.

  24. I'm not going to do that.

  25. Because that's not why we read it.

  26. And if you're one of those who are taking that bookmark

  27. and checking it off

  28. and showing it to people when you check it off,

  29. you know, real big,

  30. you know, that's not what the point is, folks, you know.

  31. It is to have a time with the Lord.

  32. And so I encourage you to do that.

  33. And today I want to encourage you to spur one another on.

  34. I want to tell you why.

  35. And I want to tell you how.

  36. It's in Hebrews chapter 10, beginning in verse 23.

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  37. And it says,

  38. First, I want to tell you why

  39. we ought to spur one another on.

  40. Because we have a great opportunity.

  41. That's why.

  42. I have a friend that has made a great impact on football

  43. for the cause of Christ.

  44. He's on the board of Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

  45. He's in their Hall of Fame.

  46. And he is known by all Christian coaches in college

  47. and in the NFL.

  48. And God's used Ken Smith in a mighty way.

  49. And I've enjoyed following him around on occasion.

  50. When he spoke at Ole Miss,

  51. he invited me to come along.

  52. And we went before a ball game.

  53. And I waited for that game to start

  54. in the coach's locker room with the coaches.

  55. I went to the head coach's office for a little while.

  56. When the game started, I had two options.

  57. One, I could either be on the sidelines

  58. and watch a ball game.

  59. Or I could be in the coach's box.

  60. I chose both.

  61. I spent the first half of the game on the sidelines.

  62. I was moved out of the way for just a moment

  63. for a presentation when Joe Gibbs of NASCAR fame

  64. and before that of the Washington Redskins,

  65. if you can say Redskins.

  66. But anyway.

  67. As well as Archie Manning.

  68. And Archie Manning, you may know him

  69. as a quarterback that suffered for the New Orleans Saints.

  70. But in Mississippi, I'm telling you,

  71. he hung the moon.

  72. He was a hero.

  73. The golden boy of Mississippi in so many ways.

  74. And at any point I wanted to,

  75. I chose halftime.

  76. I went up an eight and sat

  77. in the head coach's box with his family.

  78. I was sitting there with Monty Kiffin.

  79. Some of you who know a lot about NFL

  80. may know who that is.

  81. He's a legendary defensive coordinator

  82. throughout the years.

  83. As well, Jimmy Sexton.

  84. And Jimmy Sexton is an agent to,

  85. the last time I looked,

  86. 11 of the 14 coaches in the SEC

  87. as well as a bunch of NFL greats.

  88. And I looked and the governor

  89. was in a box over from us.

  90. Waved at him through the glass.

  91. For a football fan, I'm just telling you,

  92. it was amazing.

  93. I'm not trying to drop names here.

  94. I'm just telling you, I didn't belong.

  95. I was invited.

  96. I was on somebody else's invitation.

  97. And I was having a heyday

  98. until the fajitas did not agree with me.

  99. And then everything changed.

  100. But it was as good as college football can get

  101. unless, of course, there's another team playing.

  102. I won't bring them up.

  103. I don't want to make folks mad this morning,

  104. so I'll be quiet.

  105. But I do love games locally as well.

  106. However, there is nothing compared,

  107. that is nothing compared,

  108. nor any interaction that we've had upon this earth

  109. compared to what Hebrews chapter 10

    Hebrews 10 chapter mention

  110. talks about in the verses before the ones I read.

  111. The Hebrew writer is saying there,

  112. because Christ has died in our place,

  113. and because he has removed every barrier that we have

  114. to keep us from God,

  115. we can approach, get this,

  116. we can approach the very throne of God with boldness.

  117. We are welcomed into his presence.

  118. Now, understand this.

  119. He knows everything about us.

  120. He knows what we've done.

  121. He knows what we would have done.

  122. He knows what we've said.

  123. He knows what we thought about saying.

  124. He knows what we wish we'd have done.

  125. He knows what we wish we hadn't done.

  126. He knows it all,

  127. and loves us enough to die for us

  128. and give us the opportunity for salvation,

  129. giving us access to the throne of God for forgiveness

  130. and for the presence of God in worship.

  131. And if you are a born-again believer today,

  132. you are blessed.

  133. And it is not because you deserve it,

  134. because we do not deserve it.

  135. It is not because we've earned it,

  136. because we have not earned it.

  137. It's because he came to us,

  138. not because we came to him.

  139. We were dead, dead, dead in our trespasses and sins.

  140. And he's made us alive through his death and resurrection.

  141. And because of that, we have access to him.

  142. So we take it.

  143. And every day, we read his word,

  144. we seek his face,

  145. and we spur one another on.

  146. It is necessary that we do that,

  147. the Hebrew writer says,

  148. because the day is approaching.

  149. Jesus is coming again.

  150. Like the old hymn says,

  151. maybe morning, maybe noon,

  152. maybe evening, and maybe soon.

  153. I love that hymn.

  154. It's what's irritating him, honestly.

  155. But it's the truth.

  156. He's coming back.

  157. And nothing on this earth is keeping him from coming back.

  158. I don't know what kind of chart you have,

  159. but I'm telling you,

  160. nothing is keeping him from coming back.

  161. He can return at any moment.

  162. And so we be ready.

  163. We are to be ready and be spurring one another on.

  164. The ESV, I think, does an injustice to this

  165. when it says stir.

  166. Now, if you know what stir means there,

  167. it's okay to use that word.

  168. But it really depends on what kind of stirring

  169. you're talking about.

  170. I eat that fruit bottom yogurt every morning,

  171. or just about every morning.

  172. And the first thing I do with my spoon is I stir that.

  173. Just stir it a little bit.

  174. And get that fruit from the bottom

  175. to where I can taste it.

  176. That's not the kind of stirring he's talking about.

  177. If when you think of stirring,

  178. he's talking about how you stir people

  179. when there's a breakaway, go-ahead touchdown

  180. that happens late in the game

  181. to a fan base of a team

  182. that has been down by less than a touchdown.

  183. If you've been in that kind of atmosphere,

  184. you know what that does to the crowd.

  185. That's the kind of stirring that he's talking about.

  186. He's talking about a stirring that makes a difference.

  187. And that's why some translations,

  188. and I agree with them,

  189. translate this spur.

  190. Because you can spur a horse along to get it going.

  191. Now, I say, you can spur a horse because of Old Blue.

  192. I think it was the Wanata Valley, if I'm not mistaken.

  193. Years ago, when I had the opportunity to go on a horse ride,

  194. we all lined up, one tail in front of the other,

  195. you know, and we all got on there.

  196. Nobody knew what they were doing.

  197. Hard enough just to get on the horse.

  198. We're all standing in line,

  199. about from here to the back of the room.

  200. And I'm looking at the tail in front of me,

  201. talking to Old Blue, my buddy.

  202. I got a legend right here before me.

  203. And this legend sees something up an embankment

  204. that he liked.

  205. We wasn't moving along the way.

  206. We were just standing still.

  207. And instead of me looking like I had my act together,

  208. Old Blue had to get the weed on top of that embankment.

  209. And so up we climbed about 15 feet.

  210. I kicked him in the gut.

  211. I yanked on his ropes.

  212. I did whatever I could.

  213. And Old Blue wanted to go to the top of that hill.

  214. And Old Blue went to the top of that hill.

  215. So now I'm standing on top of the hill

  216. like a victorious captain,

  217. looking down at everyone else,

  218. when all they want to do is go on the ride.

  219. And somebody came and helped me get Old Blue down the hill.

  220. So when I say, you can spur a horse,

  221. I mean, you can spur a horse because I'm not going to.

  222. But I'll tell you what, you can spur a horse

  223. and we can also spur one another along.

  224. And we're instructed to do that by Scripture.

  225. So not only do I want to tell you why you ought to spur,

  226. but I want to tell you how we ought to spur,

  227. just some ways of how we ought to spur one another along.

  228. One way we do that is to pray.

  229. You say, oh, preacher,

  230. I thought you were talking about something we could do.

  231. Well, whatever you're going to do for the Lord,

  232. you ought to pray about it before you do it.

  233. You ought to pray about it while you're doing it.

  234. You ought to pray about it after you're doing it.

  235. Because the difference that you make

  236. comes only from a complete dependence upon the Lord

  237. that allows him to work in us and through us.

  238. And so we must pray.

  239. Now, let me be honest with you.

  240. I'm not just preaching here.

  241. I'm telling the truth.

  242. The word there, stir, for encouragement,

  243. excuse me, the word for encourage there,

  244. that stir, is the same word in English as paracism.

  245. Paracism is a medical term that speaks of a sudden shaking,

  246. like a convulsion of sorts, an emotion.

  247. It's normally used as a negative word in the Greek.

  248. Now, you don't have to be negative to spur one another on,

  249. but you might need to be.

  250. But I'm telling you,

  251. whether it's negative or whether it's positive,

  252. when you try to spur others along,

  253. you ought to pray before you do.

  254. The second thing is invite and share.

  255. Spur one another along by inviting and sharing.

  256. Notice what he says.

  257. He says, all the more as you see the day drawing near.

  258. What day is he talking about?

  259. He's talking about that day there is short

  260. for the day of the Lord.

  261. He's talking about a day of judgment that is coming.

  262. The chickens will come home to roost.

  263. You can count on it.

  264. The signs of the times tell me

  265. that it's closer than it's ever been.

  266. We need to act on it.

  267. And listen, if they needed to act on it

  268. as the day was approaching 2,000 years ago,

  269. how much more do we definitely need to act on it?

  270. So tell somebody about Jesus.

  271. Invite them to worship with you.

  272. Share what Christ is doing in your life.

  273. If you're rooting for a ball team

  274. and they win a championship,

  275. you're gonna go tell everybody that already knows it,

  276. ain't you?

  277. You want everybody to know it

  278. because your team won

  279. even though it's been well publicized

  280. and people know.

  281. Well, tell them something bigger than that.

  282. Tell them something more lasting than that.

  283. Tell them something better than that

  284. and much more important

  285. that they need to know and may not.

  286. And that is Jesus saves.

  287. Jesus changes lives.

  288. That is that God wants to do a wonderful work

  289. in a local church

  290. and I want to encourage you

  291. to come to church with me.

  292. What a wonderful opportunity you have.

  293. The power that is in you

  294. because you pray in a dependence upon the Lord,

  295. ask God to use you.

  296. Simply walk through the doors that he opens

  297. and has the opportunity to invite and to share.

  298. There's some VBS cards out there.

  299. That's easy.

  300. If we run out of those,

  301. there's postcards as well that we can use.

  302. That's easy.

  303. You see a kid in the neighborhood,

  304. that kid that won't get off your lawn,

  305. just tell him,

  306. get off my lawn.

  307. Here, come to Vacation Bible School.

  308. Spur one another on.

  309. Shake each other up.

  310. We missing somebody this morning?

  311. Spur each other on.

  312. And then smile.

  313. Smile.

  314. You know, you can love God and live for him

  315. and still be happy.

  316. You can.

  317. And you can be winsome

  318. and you can be pleasing to others.

  319. Don't mean they're always going to agree

  320. with everything you say.

  321. Probably shouldn't agree with everything you say.

  322. You really can, though.

  323. And so I want to tell you to make a point

  324. to be for his honor and for his glory

  325. one who's winsome.

  326. Why are we spurring each other along?

  327. The middle of verse 24 says

  328. that we do it for love and good works.

  329. Love is an eternal matter.

  330. It's a heart matter.

  331. It's taking care of things in the heart.

  332. And if the heart is right,

  333. that drives outward into those good works.

  334. But if love is not right,

  335. it will not promote good works.

  336. If the love in the heart is right,

  337. it'll promote good works.

  338. You can't do that grumbling.

  339. You can't do it like when you look like

  340. you've been sucking on a lemon.

  341. That's not holy.

  342. It's ugly.

  343. And so if Jesus has changed your heart,

  344. inform your face.

  345. And listen,

  346. the guest here today

  347. probably will not remember what I said.

  348. But they'll remember what you said.

  349. And they'll remember how you treated them.

  350. And they'll remember the love

  351. and the smiles of the people.

  352. So smile.

  353. I promise you folks,

  354. it ain't that hard to smile.

  355. Next thing is respond.

  356. When God speaks,

  357. respond.

  358. If it's in this worship hour,

  359. respond.

  360. If it's in your prayer time,

  361. respond.

  362. If the spirit prods you,

  363. respond.

  364. If the spirit waves a red flag on your life,

  365. respond.

  366. If the spirit waves a green flag on your life,

  367. respond.

  368. I think about Philip.

  369. God told Philip to go down to the crossroads.

  370. He didn't really know what he was getting into.

  371. But he went because God told him to go.

  372. And when he got there,

  373. what he didn't know was that God was working on that Ethiopian eunuch in that chariot

  374. by leading him to a passage that spoke of a coming Messiah.

  375. And when they met up at that divine appointment,

  376. that man said,

  377. how can I understand this unless somebody explains it?

  378. And he sat down and explained it to him,

  379. led him to Christ,

  380. baptized him right there.

  381. Listen,

  382. in every church I've pastored,

  383. I've had people meet me at the door and tell me,

  384. I felt led to come down.

  385. I felt led to make a decision,

  386. but I didn't.

  387. And when I hear that,

  388. do you know what I want to do?

  389. I want to spur them on.

  390. And I mean in a horse kind of way.

  391. I want to take a pointy thing on the end of my boot

  392. and stick it in their side of sorts.

  393. Why?

  394. Because your disobedience,

  395. my disobedience,

  396. our disobedience,

  397. quenches the spirit of God

  398. from moving and working in the way he'd had moved.

  399. What if your obedience

  400. would have given someone else the courage

  401. to come up as well?

  402. By following your example.

  403. I'm not asking you to orchestrate something.

  404. I'm simply asking you to be obedient to God.

  405. Just do what God tells you to do

  406. because God has a way of using us

  407. to help each other.

  408. Spur one another along.

  409. We can build an atmosphere

  410. of being stiff as a board,

  411. scared to death,

  412. that God's going to move in a mighty way.

  413. Or either we can be one

  414. built on obedience

  415. and an expectancy

  416. that God wants to change lives,

  417. that God's still in the saving business.

  418. He's still doing miracles

  419. and he wants to work

  420. and to move in people's lives

  421. and we ought to expect it.

  422. We ought to pray for it.

  423. We ought to look for it.

  424. We ought to invite people to experience it.

  425. I'll never ask you to do more

  426. than what God tells you to do

  427. and I'll never want you to be satisfied

  428. with doing less.

  429. You shouldn't do less.

  430. When God speaks, respond.

  431. It'll be like a kick in the pants

  432. to the rest of us.

  433. When you respond

  434. to what God tells you to do, respond.

  435. The next thing is to reach.

  436. To reach.

  437. To assure you

  438. that I have not left the text.

  439. If you're going to stir one another along

  440. to love and good works,

  441. you're going to have to rattle a cage or two

  442. from time to time.

  443. If they're missing,

  444. check on them.

  445. If they need Jesus,

  446. reach out to them.

  447. Pray before you do.

  448. Ask God to open up the opportunity

  449. and then step out boldly

  450. and reach out to them.

  451. If you need a church home,

  452. if they need a church home,

  453. touch base with them.

  454. If they're missing here this morning,

  455. check on them.

  456. If they're sick,

  457. reach out to them.

  458. If they're hurting,

  459. love on them.

  460. Worship is not,

  461. I'm here,

  462. I dare you to bless me.

  463. That is not worship, folks.

  464. That's a standoff.

  465. It's not worship at all.

  466. Worship is Isaiah chapter 6.

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  467. In Isaiah chapter 6,

    Isaiah 6 chapter mention

  468. Isaiah said,

  469. whoa,

  470. I am a man of unclean lips.

  471. Cleanse me, Lord.

  472. And then he said,

  473. send me, Lord.

  474. That's what worship is, friend.

  475. It's getting right with God

  476. and then being ready to walk with God.

  477. He'll use you this very hour

  478. if you respond as he tells you to

  479. and you reach out to somebody

  480. on the way out of here.

  481. I promise.

  482. He'll do works in you

  483. you don't expect.

  484. Spur one another on

  485. and then attend.

  486. It says,

  487. not neglecting to meet together.

  488. Being faithful in worship

  489. is the gift that just keeps on giving

  490. because you need it

  491. but not only do you need it

  492. but Christ established the church

  493. because we need each other

  494. and we have a job to do.

  495. We're to reach the world.

  496. We're to spur one another on

  497. and you can't do that from the couch.

  498. You can't do it online.

  499. It's a great option

  500. for those that can't be here physically

  501. but if you can be,

  502. be here physically.

  503. You can't do it from the lake.

  504. You can't do it from the ball field.

  505. Now I know

  506. as the Hebrew writer knows,

  507. so many preacher

  508. are in the habit of doing it.

  509. He warns us

  510. of that very thing.

  511. Let's don't act like some.

  512. Notice in scripture,

  513. it's the people

  514. who were not like others

  515. that God used mightily.

  516. It was the exceptions.

  517. It was not the normal.

  518. They said Noah was blameless

  519. and above reproach.

  520. You know what that means?

  521. That means when a man

  522. builds a huge boat

  523. in the middle of the desert

  524. and people walk by and go,

  525. I think he's losing it.

  526. Somebody else is going to say,

  527. you know what?

  528. He must be on to something

  529. because that old boy

  530. has got it going on.

  531. I don't understand

  532. what he's telling us

  533. but there's something

  534. about what he's doing

  535. that must be right.

  536. He was blameless.

  537. That means people

  538. didn't accuse him.

  539. He was above reproach.

  540. That means if they did accuse him,

  541. that somebody else would go,

  542. nah, I'm sorry.

  543. Not Noah.

  544. Noah stood out

  545. and because of that,

  546. God used him.

  547. It says David was a man

  548. after God's own heart.

  549. Man, David was as imperfect

  550. as any of us.

  551. But the reality is

  552. he had a heart for God.

  553. And when God told him

  554. to do something,

  555. he did it and God used him.

  556. Abraham went to a land

  557. that God would show him

  558. and was willing to go

  559. and do what God

  560. would have him to do.

  561. The disciples dropped their agenda

  562. and followed Christ.

  563. Do you know how significant it is

  564. when your daddy has a fishing business

  565. and you're cleaning out the net

  566. on the side of the water

  567. and Jesus says,

  568. come and follow me

  569. and he don't wait on them

  570. and he don't beg them

  571. and he don't plead with them.

  572. I believe he just turned

  573. and began to walk

  574. and they dropped their net.

  575. They dropped their inheritance.

  576. They left their career behind

  577. to follow Christ.

  578. Oh, you know what?

  579. Two millenniums later,

  580. we're still talking about them

  581. because they stepped out

  582. for the Lord

  583. because Christ uses those

  584. who are willing

  585. to be used mightily of God.

  586. So let's not be in the habit

  587. of so many.

  588. Let's be faithful

  589. to not neglect meeting together

  590. because not only do you miss,

  591. but you are missed,

  592. I promise you.

  593. And another way to spur,

  594. and listen,

  595. what I always say is

  596. miss for the extraordinary.

  597. But don't miss for the ordinary.

  598. There's great opportunities

  599. to come around

  600. and they come around on weekends.

  601. It happens.

  602. Miss for the extraordinary,

  603. but don't miss for the ordinary.

  604. Attend.

  605. And then give.

  606. You knew I was going there.

  607. I want you to notice

  608. the impact of giving.

  609. 2 Corinthians chapter 9,

    2 Corinthians 9:6–8

  610. verse 6 through 8 says this,

  611. the point is this,

  612. whoever sows sparingly

  613. will also reap sparingly.

  614. And whoever sows bountifully

  615. will also reap bountifully.

  616. Each one must give

  617. as he has decided in his heart,

  618. not reluctantly

  619. or under compulsion,

  620. for God loves a cheerful,

  621. that's that smile

  622. I was talking about.

  623. God loves a cheerful giver.

  624. And God is able.

  625. Have you seen the economy?

  626. Have you seen what houses cost?

  627. Are y'all praying?

  628. You been in the gas pump lately?

  629. Been in the grocery store?

  630. Preacher, how in the world

  631. can we be faithful to the Lord

  632. when things are like they are?

  633. And God is able

  634. to make all grace abound to you

  635. so that having all sufficiency

  636. in all things

  637. at all times

  638. you may abound

  639. in every good work.

  640. As long as it's all in your pocket,

  641. you're responsible for it.

  642. But when you obey God

  643. and give as he instructs you to give,

  644. I'm not responsible anymore.

  645. He's going to provide my needs.

  646. He'll be more than sufficient.

  647. And listen, this is the good part.

  648. Abound, amen?

  649. Abound in every good work.

  650. When you trust God

  651. by giving the tithe and the offering,

  652. God's grace is more than sufficient

  653. to provide your needs

  654. and to strengthen

  655. and empower the work

  656. that you are doing in his name.

  657. It will spur us all on.

  658. The lack of faith of those

  659. that do not give

  660. hinders the work of God

  661. among his people.

  662. Now, I don't want you to misunderstand.

  663. My father owns the cattle

  664. on a thousand hills.

  665. He don't need our money.

  666. But he chooses

  667. to use the obedient.

  668. That's who he chooses

  669. to be a part of.

  670. That's who he chooses

  671. to work in.

  672. Make a point

  673. to be obedient

  674. with what is precious.

  675. Because when we fail

  676. to give faithfully,

  677. we are hindered ourselves.

  678. But we are also

  679. not trusting God

  680. in that matter.

  681. And that stunts

  682. personal growth.

  683. And if you've learned

  684. anything from this

  685. passage of scripture today,

  686. I hope you've learned.

  687. And when we fail

  688. to grow in the Lord,

  689. and when we fail

  690. to do what God

  691. tells us to do,

  692. that fails to spur

  693. or to stimulate

  694. the work of the Lord

  695. in other people as well.

  696. So give.

  697. Just give faithfully.

  698. God's got it taken care of.

  699. I promise you.

  700. Just be faithful.

  701. And then serve.

  702. The Apostle Paul

  703. said in Galatians 5,

    Galatians 5:13

  704. verse 13,

  705. through love,

  706. serve one another.

  707. Remember,

  708. we're talking about

  709. spurring on.

  710. We're talking about

  711. stirring up.

  712. We're talking about

  713. motivating,

  714. promoting,

  715. stimulating.

  716. That's what teachers do.

  717. That's what was going on

  718. in Sunday school classes

  719. just a few moments ago.

  720. From the little bitty ones

  721. to the real old ones.

  722. That's what was happening.

  723. Spurring one another on.

  724. That's what happens

  725. when those greeters

  726. stand out there

  727. on that porch.

  728. Invite you in.

  729. Stirring one another on.

  730. That's what happens

  731. when people serve.

  732. That's what happens

  733. when people cook.

  734. That's what happens

  735. when people host.

  736. When they sing.

  737. When they play instruments.

  738. Every one of us

  739. needs a small group.

  740. A Sunday school class

  741. to share our life with

  742. and a place of service

  743. to serve God in.

  744. Nobody needs to do everything.

  745. Everybody needs to do something.

  746. And we encourage

  747. one another along

  748. when we serve the Lord.

  749. God honors such as that.

  750. You've got to find your niche.

  751. Get busy for God.

  752. And then follow up.

  753. There's possibly

  754. no better way

  755. to be an encourager

  756. than to touch base

  757. with someone

  758. as you have the opportunity.

  759. When you greet somebody

  760. touch back base with them.

  761. Don't leave them behind.

  762. When you pray for somebody

  763. follow up on them.

  764. When you share your faith

  765. with somebody

  766. follow up on them.

  767. When you invite somebody

  768. to come

  769. follow up on them.

  770. If the first contact

  771. means that you care

  772. the second one

  773. means that you love

  774. and when folks

  775. are loving one another

  776. and when folks

  777. are spurring

  778. one another along

  779. God gets involved

  780. and God does

  781. wonderful things

  782. in our midst.

  783. so I encourage you

  784. spur one another on.

  785. If that was an acrostic

  786. it'd be a horrible one.

  787. I don't like acrostics.

  788. I just want you

  789. to get the point

  790. that we ought to

  791. spur one another on.

  792. I've been a part

  793. of a high school

  794. football program

  795. as a chaplain

  796. or as a stat guy

  797. or as an announcer

  798. for over 25 years.

  799. I've been in a lot

  800. of field houses

  801. at halftime.

  802. Heard a lot of things

  803. I didn't really want to hear.

  804. The coach's job

  805. may be to chew them out.

  806. The coach's job

  807. may be to fire them up.

  808. He may be to console them.

  809. Hopefully not to cry with them

  810. at least not at halftime.

  811. But he knows his team

  812. and he knows the time

  813. and he knows what they need.

  814. And it's his job

  815. to bring that team

  816. to the next level

  817. for the rest of that game.

  818. Church, I'm new.

  819. I don't know you

  820. as well as I want to.

  821. I'm trying.

  822. Studying your pictures

  823. and names last night.

  824. You didn't get your picture

  825. made at Easter.

  826. Shame on you.

  827. I'm trying.

  828. But church,

  829. let's spur one another on.

  830. Let's not be satisfied

  831. with where we are.

  832. Let's spur one another on

  833. to do great works of God.

  834. Preacher,

  835. how do we do that?

  836. Well, you see it.

  837. Find your place.

  838. Do your thing.

  839. God has orchestrated

  840. the body of Christ

  841. and the body of this

  842. body of Christ

  843. together.

  844. Together,

  845. we have everything

  846. we need.

  847. We just got to be obedient

  848. and follow God.

  849. And he'll do

  850. wonderful things

  851. among us.

  852. Listen,

  853. if we're going to do it

  854. in the name of the Lord,

  855. let's do it right.

  856. He deserves

  857. our best.

  858. So spur one another

  859. along.

  860. Find a place

  861. to click into.

  862. Find a place

  863. to serve.

  864. Don't try

  865. to do it all,

  866. but do something

  867. for the Lord Jesus.

  868. With every head bowed

  869. and every eye closed,

  870. I want you to know

  871. the time is precious.

  872. It's precious.

  873. I don't know exactly

  874. what that means.

  875. It could mean

  876. for an individual here

  877. in some capacity.

  878. I don't know.

  879. But I know

  880. that what I see

  881. in Scripture

  882. over and over again

  883. that was all written

  884. over 2,000 years ago,

  885. all of it

  886. is to telling us

  887. to spur

  888. one another along,

  889. to encourage

  890. one another

  891. along the way

  892. because the day

  893. is approaching.

  894. We're on barred time.

  895. We only have

  896. so long

  897. in this life.

  898. God tells us

  899. to make the most

  900. of it for His cause

  901. and His kingdom.

  902. If we're Christians

  903. and we're set apart

  904. for Him,

  905. let's make a difference

  906. in His life.

  907. Now what is it

  908. in your life today

  909. that's hindering you

  910. from being everything

  911. that God would have you to be?

  912. Maybe it's that

  913. you've never taken

  914. that first step.

  915. You've never asked

  916. the Lord Jesus

  917. to come into your life.

  918. You've never asked

  919. Him to save you

  920. and to change you.

  921. And if you're here

  922. this morning

  923. and you've never

  924. surrendered your life

  925. to the Lord Jesus Christ,

  926. I am thankful

  927. that today is the day

  928. of salvation

  929. and that if you'll

  930. surrender your life

  931. to Him

  932. and ask Him

  933. to forgive you

  934. and to cleanse you

  935. of your sin

  936. and you'll turn from it

  937. and follow Him

  938. in His way,

  939. He'll save you today.

  940. I'm thankful for that.

  941. When we stand

  942. and sing in just a moment,

  943. you come down this aisle,

  944. I'll be happy

  945. to guide you in that.

  946. Maybe you're here

  947. and you know

  948. you're a Christian

  949. but you know

  950. there's some stuff

  951. missing.

  952. Ain't enough

  953. spurn going on

  954. for you.

  955. Well, I hope

  956. the sharp point

  957. has hit you

  958. in the side today.

  959. Not just to make you

  960. feel bad

  961. but to respond to it

  962. in a way

  963. that will honor God

  964. and please Him.

  965. Will you be faithful

  966. to Him

  967. today?

  968. Maybe you're here

  969. and God's drawing you

  970. to this body

  971. of believers.

  972. You come.

  973. Let's talk about that.

  974. What a wonderful

  975. it would be

  976. for you to join us

  977. along the journey

  978. of serving the Lord.

  979. Lord Jesus,

  980. I love you

  981. and I thank you

  982. for your Holy Spirit

  983. and how He works

  984. and moves

  985. and I ask right now,

  986. dear God,

  987. that you'll just lead us

  988. to be obedient

  989. whatever you tell us

  990. to do.

  991. In Jesus' precious name,

  992. amen.

  993. Let's pray to Him

  994. and Alpha

  995. andides.

  996. Thank you,

  997. at Brook Lead,

  998. and other projects

  999. folk movement

  1000. that I've ever

  1001. left with While

  1002. Twine is a responsible

  1003. and should be

  1004. helping the earth

  1005. and their son

  1006. and has a medicine

  1007. in the circle of

  1008. disciples.

  1009. I don't see you

  1010. like the building

  1011. and the fragile

  1012. and the world

  1013. and the unknown

  1014. and the 91.

  1015. And that we have

  1016. them before

  1017. that where

  1018. when the people

  1019. went past

  1020. their dual

  1021. and the automobile

  1022. and the Prep

  1023. and história

  1024. to become

  1025. master father

  1026. after that

  1027. all

  1028. and the

  1029. child

  1030. and life

  1031. and became

  1032. very
