  1. Let's turn to Mark chapter 2.

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  2. Mark chapter 2, we are talking this month about first things first.

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  3. And that is the new guy coming in, wanted you to know the priorities that stir me.

  4. I wanted you to know what it is that sets my focus and seems to guide my direction as a pastor.

  5. Just to put it bluntly, I want you to know my heart.

  6. I want you to know what makes me tick and what gets me up in the morning because we're family.

  7. I don't know everybody's name, but I've been to some family reunions like that before.

  8. So now I'm just trying to figure out who's the ones that bull through the lines and get all the food and then leave and don't speak to anybody.

  9. You know, so those type of things.

  10. So we've been talking about first things first.

  11. We began to talk about the need of knowing that you are saved.

  12. There's doubt in your mind.

  13. We need to nail that down because the reality is you won't grow.

  14. You won't share.

  15. You won't thrive in your Christian walk if you're struggling, whether it's even there or not.

  16. So you need to know that.

  17. And if you don't know the Lord Jesus today, I want you to know that of all the things that we talk about and all the things that we do,

  18. the most important thing that we want you to know is the Lord Jesus on a personal basis, surrendering your life to him.

  19. So I believe it's important.

  20. I believe it's bedrock to know that you know the Lord, you're saved.

  21. Then if you do know him, I think you'll live for him.

  22. That includes spending time daily with him.

  23. And we've shared that, a plan of reading the word of God daily and implementing that and allowing God to speak to you and use that in your life.

  24. I'm going to speak to that again in coming days because I just believe that it ought to be a part of our life, you know, like brushing your teeth.

  25. And if you don't do that at least a couple times a day, you need to, okay?

  26. You need to brush your teeth, but you also need to spend some time in God's word.

  27. So I believe it ought to be as natural as that.

  28. You know, when I say that, I think, well, some people may not think it's natural to brush their teeth, but I hope you do.

  29. And if you don't, your neighbor will let you know it.

  30. So, and then I think we ought to spur one another on because I promise you there's always going to be times of discouragement.

  31. There's always going to be times when we need one another and we try to hide that on Sunday, okay?

  32. We try to look our best and we try to act like that all the pieces of our pie are in place and all those things.

  33. But the reality is we need the Lord Jesus and he established the church because we need one another.

  34. And we need to be spurring one another on in so many different ways that we can do that.

  35. Today, I just want to encourage you to do a simple thing and that is grab a corner.

  36. Just grab a corner.

  37. Mark chapter 2, beginning in verse 1, it says this.

    Mark 2 chapter mention

  38. And when he, speaking of Christ, returned to Capernaum after some days, it was reported that he was at home.

  39. And many were gathered together so that there was no more room, not even at the door.

  40. And he was preaching the word to them.

  41. And they came, bringing to him a paralytic carried by four men.

  42. And when they could not get near because of the crowd, they removed the roof above him.

  43. And when they had made an opening, they let down the bed on which the paralytic lay.

  44. And when Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic, son, your sins are forgiven.

  45. Now, some of the scribes were sitting there questioning in their hearts, why does this man speak like this?

  46. He's blaspheming.

  47. Who can forgive sins but God alone?

  48. And immediately Jesus perceived in his spirit that those questioned within themselves, that they questioned within themselves.

  49. And said to them, why do you question these things in your heart?

  50. Which is easier, to say to the paralytic, your sins are forgiven?

  51. Or to rise, take up your bed and walk?

  52. But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.

  53. He said to the paralytic, I say to you, rise, pick up your bed and go home.

  54. And when he rose and immediately picked up his bed and went out before them all,

  55. so that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, we never saw anything like this.

  56. When Jesus entered Capernaum again, there was a buzz in the air.

  57. His reputation had preceded him.

  58. Jesus was in town again.

  59. When he had previously been there, Scripture tells us that he had taught in the synagogue.

  60. After teaching and eating at Simon's house, literally across the street from the synagogue,

  61. the whole town came and more were healed.

  62. He pulled up the next morning and went to pray.

  63. And when he got up, he went and preached in Galilee, that same region,

  64. that larger, greater region around Capernaum.

  65. That is a beautiful area.

  66. All of it overlooks the Sea of Galilee.

  67. It is pretty rolling pasture.

  68. It smells of Jesus up there.

  69. It's just a special spot.

  70. You can sense his influence.

  71. And still today, the Galilean people are different.

  72. There's a different flavor to them.

  73. There's a pleasantness about them, a different countenance than you see in other folks in that area.

  74. They look Galilean.

  75. They act Galilean.

  76. And when they first told me that, I didn't really understand what that meant.

  77. But once I met them, I understood what they meant by that.

  78. It's pretty neat.

  79. And while this morning in our passage, he returns to Capernaum,

  80. he had taught folks.

  81. He had healed folks.

  82. He had fellowship with folks.

  83. And they had spread the word about that.

  84. And folks were coming because they had spread the word about what God was doing.

  85. While stopping at someone's house, a crowd began to gather and surround the place.

  86. And Jesus began to teach.

  87. It was a crowd.

  88. An overwhelming crowd surrounded the house, hung in the windows, all those things.

  89. As much as they do wonderful in reaching out and how you need to take advantage of the opportunity,

  90. they didn't have Facebook ads in that day.

  91. And they didn't have yard signs in that day.

  92. They just had word of mouth.

  93. Now, I will say that we've got BBS yard signs.

  94. If they're still available, they're out there.

  95. Pick them up.

  96. Put them in your yard.

  97. Invite some kid.

  98. Get off my lawn and come to BBS and learn of the love of Jesus.

  99. But the reality is, the best way to share the news of Jesus Christ is to tell somebody.

  100. Just tell them.

  101. And that's what they had done.

  102. They told them.

  103. And the result of them telling that was a house that was overflowing with people.

  104. Church, don't ever underestimate your influence.

  105. God has placed you here to use you here.

  106. Tell somebody about Jesus.

  107. The evil one wants you to underestimate your influence.

  108. To say you don't know what to say.

  109. To worry about questions someone may ask.

  110. Just share what you know.

  111. The room was filled.

  112. The doorway was filled.

  113. The windows were filled.

  114. People were everywhere.

  115. And there was a special need on the outer edge of the crowd.

  116. And thankfully that man had help.

  117. He was a paralyzed man being carried on a cot by his friends.

  118. And they had a burden.

  119. They wanted this man well.

  120. They wanted this man well.

  121. And when they heard of Jesus and they heard of his power, they wanted to get that man to Jesus.

  122. When it comes to seeing lives changed by Christ, I believe we have a lot to learn from this account.

  123. And I believe we ought to practice what we learn.

  124. He came to Christ because of his friends.

  125. He came to Christ because of his friends.

  126. He could not come on his own.

  127. He was physically unable to.

  128. Jesus may pass by him.

  129. But he was not going to pass by Jesus because the man was paralyzed.

  130. He was incapable of coming.

  131. That reminds me of a spiritual, biblical concept in Romans chapter 3, 10 and following when it says,

    Romans 3 chapter mention

  132. None is righteous, no, not one.

  133. For no one understands, no one seeks for God.

  134. All have turned aside.

  135. Together they become worthless.

  136. No one does good.

  137. Not even one.

  138. This man was physically incapable of coming to Christ.

  139. But there are a lot more that are spiritually incapable of coming to Christ.

  140. We are not brought unless we're drawn.

  141. And God uses his own people through the Holy Spirit of God to help draw folks to Christ Jesus.

  142. You don't wake up to the fact one day that you need Jesus on your own.

  143. God always makes the initiative.

  144. And listen, he uses us believers in that process of making that initiation.

  145. He has commissioned us to join him in the task of bringing others to Christ.

  146. It is his last words.

  147. I've been at the bedside of those who are dying.

  148. I've heard their last words.

  149. And people hang on the very end to see what it is they last say.

  150. And Jesus, of all things, right before he ascended, told us to go.

  151. Just like the ladies sang just a few minutes ago.

  152. Go tell folks the difference that Christ makes.

  153. He's commissioned us to do that.

  154. We ought to live by that.

  155. Now having said that, it is challenging today.

  156. It seems that less come to Christ.

  157. Why?

  158. Because our country's filled with so many spiritual options.

  159. America is a melting pot that has brought in people from all over the world.

  160. And they brought their gods with them.

  161. And what we found is we have a spiritual mess on our hands.

  162. We are a very enlightened bunch.

  163. Plus, we've tried our best after breaking off from Europe.

  164. We've tried our best to become more like Europe.

  165. And you know what?

  166. It's happening.

  167. It's happening.

  168. America feels too smart for God.

  169. We've become so open-minded our brains are falling out.

  170. And another reason that happens is because Christians have decided,

  171. whether in their head or just in their practice,

  172. that they'll just keep their faith to their self.

  173. They'll just mind their own.

  174. To be blunt, the devil is pulling out all the stops.

  175. To discourage Christians from sharing their faith

  176. and to allow lost people to stay lost.

  177. If you're a Christian today, the devil can't have your soul,

  178. so he'll try to rip your testimony out of your life.

  179. And if you don't know the Lord Jesus, he don't want you to.

  180. The reality is, he is trying his best.

  181. And he'll oppress the Christian.

  182. He'll influence the society.

  183. He'll indoctrinate the carnal man.

  184. The reality is, as the Apostle Paul tells us, we're in a war.

  185. And if we're not sharing Christ, we're losing that war.

  186. Most people will never come to know the Lord if Christian friends don't bring them to Christ.

  187. He allows us to play a part in that process.

  188. We are responsible for that.

  189. We think it's none of our business when Scripture tells us that it is.

  190. We think that they can see the Christ option clearly when Scripture tells us that they can't.

  191. Why can't they see it?

  192. John 1 verse 5 says that Jesus is the light that has shined in the darkness,

    John 1:5

  193. but the darkness has not understood it.

  194. Never expect someone spiritually in the dark to become spiritually enlightened

  195. without the outreach of a Christian friend.

  196. God chooses to use us in that process.

  197. All folks in need must know the Savior that solves their needs.

  198. And God chooses to use believers.

  199. I want you to notice something else.

  200. I want you to notice that his friends had to make an extreme effort.

  201. They had planned to lead him through, but the crowd was too great.

  202. They couldn't get through.

  203. So they went to the nth degree.

  204. Four of them carried him up to the roof.

  205. Now typically, in that day, a house in that region would be a flat-roofed house.

  206. And on the side of that house would be clay steps that led up the side of that house

  207. to allow them to get to a flat place.

  208. It's where you dried out things.

  209. It's where you stored things.

  210. But they climbed up the top and began to tear through that roof,

  211. that roof of hay and dried mud,

  212. and that began to fall in that room with Jesus.

  213. Can you imagine the scene there as Jesus is teaching,

  214. and the roof is beginning to fall?

  215. What if the friends would have said,

  216. that's too much work?

  217. I mean, we tried.

  218. We got him this far, but why bother going any further?

  219. What if the friends would have said,

  220. well, let's try again later?

  221. Or what in the world are people going to think?

  222. A good question is, what will the owner think?

  223. I mean, you know.

  224. What will Jesus think?

  225. I mean, we're interrupting him.

  226. Maybe we ought to do this next time.

  227. All of those reasons would have been unacceptable

  228. because it was a day of a miracle,

  229. and none of these friends knew when they got up that morning

  230. what they were going to see happen.

  231. You never know what God is going to do

  232. and when he's going to do a miracle in somebody else's life,

  233. and he uses your effort to carry that out.

  234. So the question is, what is too much?

  235. When have you went too far to lead one to Christ?

  236. When have you done too much

  237. to encourage somebody to come to Christ?

  238. When is it too much to do,

  239. to do our part,

  240. to keep somebody out of an eternal hell?

  241. When do you give up trying on that?

  242. These guys show us, you don't stop.

  243. It's never too late.

  244. God chooses to work in the extreme efforts.

  245. He chooses to use us in that process.

  246. And don't misunderstand me.

  247. God can save folks without us,

  248. but why should he have to?

  249. Why can't he involve us in that process

  250. after he's changed our life,

  251. we've committed our life to him,

  252. and he's commissioned us,

  253. empowered us,

  254. and promised us he'd be right there with us

  255. the whole time we go?

  256. Why not get in on what God wants to do?

  257. And it is in those times

  258. that he often makes his greatest moves.

  259. Notice the reason Jesus did what he did.

  260. I didn't put this in here.

  261. Verse 5 says he did it because of their faith.

  262. That's what it says.

  263. It does not say simply that man's faith.

  264. It says their faith.

  265. Don't look at me like that.

  266. I didn't put that in there.

  267. It's in there.

  268. I didn't write it.

  269. Our faith, get this,

  270. our faith, our active faith,

  271. plays a role in changing the world

  272. for the Lord Jesus Christ.

  273. I promise you.

  274. Could it be that we have given up too easily?

  275. Could it be that we've said

  276. there's no need to go to an extreme effort

  277. to reach somebody?

  278. They did.

  279. And it worked.

  280. I want you to notice something else too.

  281. Jesus knew the man's greatest needs.

  282. He knew his greatest needs.

  283. After they did all that,

  284. Jesus didn't even do what they wanted him to do.

  285. At least he didn't do it in an obvious way.

  286. He handled something else.

  287. Man had a physical condition.

  288. He couldn't move.

  289. He was paralyzed.

  290. Had to be carried on a cot by four friends.

  291. Torn through a roof and dropped down

  292. in the middle of that teaching spot.

  293. And Jesus looked past his physical condition

  294. and saw his spiritual condition.

  295. And he first dealt with the spiritual condition.

  296. He ends up dealing with the physical condition,

  297. but just as an evidence of what he can do spiritually.

  298. Because he was more concerned about the spiritual condition.

  299. By the way,

  300. he always is more concerned about the spiritual condition.

  301. We can make a prayer list all we want to.

  302. We can pray for physical needs

  303. and God chooses to heal when he wants to heal.

  304. And he chooses to do it in a way,

  305. I ask him to do it in a way

  306. where we know it's been by his hand

  307. and we give him all the credit.

  308. Not the medicine,

  309. not the doctor,

  310. not the hospital,

  311. that we get him the credit.

  312. Lord,

  313. make it obvious to us

  314. so we don't miss it

  315. that it's been by your hand.

  316. And thank God,

  317. we've seen him heal

  318. and we've seen him do wonderful things.

  319. But I promise you,

  320. he's always more concerned

  321. about the spiritual condition.

  322. He's always more concerned about that.

  323. Yes,

  324. he healed this man as proof

  325. of what he could do in somebody's heart,

  326. but I bet nobody thought

  327. that was how it was going to go.

  328. I want you to understand something.

  329. It is not our job

  330. to determine someone's greatest need.

  331. That is not our job.

  332. It is not our job to qualify somebody.

  333. It is not our job to disqualify somebody.

  334. It is our job commissioned by Christ

  335. to get them to Jesus.

  336. He'll work out the details.

  337. Just get them to Christ.

  338. If you'll get them to Christ,

  339. he'll work it out.

  340. We often think somebody needs

  341. to change their lifestyle first.

  342. They need to change the places

  343. that they go first.

  344. They need to act differently first.

  345. They need to show a concern

  346. for such things as that first.

  347. I want you to understand something

  348. and I want you to remember it.

  349. Never forget that people without Jesus

  350. are without Jesus.

  351. Lost people are going to be lost

  352. and they're going to act lost.

  353. Don't expect any different.

  354. The only hope they have

  355. is in Christ Jesus.

  356. If we could fix the things

  357. in our life that's broke,

  358. we would need a Savior.

  359. And so listen,

  360. if you're here today

  361. and you're waiting to fix

  362. some things in your life

  363. before you come to Christ,

  364. stop waiting.

  365. It's not going to happen.

  366. And by the way,

  367. once you give your heart

  368. and life to Christ,

  369. you'll still find out

  370. that you're imperfect.

  371. You'll still find out

  372. that you can't get it all right.

  373. And that is why,

  374. two weeks ago I said,

  375. let's spend daily time

  376. with the Lord,

  377. asking Him to empower us

  378. and strengthen us

  379. to rise above the frailties

  380. that so condemn our lives

  381. and that the devil

  382. kicks our teeth in about

  383. and that we are discouraged

  384. along the way about.

  385. Let's continue to bring

  386. those matters before God

  387. daily

  388. because then

  389. there's a relationship.

  390. We've established something

  391. real with the Lord

  392. that forever will change our lives.

  393. But do not expect the world

  394. to act Christian

  395. when they're not Christian.

  396. It's not going to happen, folks.

  397. Don't worry about

  398. what God needs to do

  399. in somebody's life.

  400. Get them to Jesus.

  401. Let them take care of it.

  402. Let Him take care of it.

  403. Listen.

  404. And when it comes

  405. to the decisions

  406. that people make today,

  407. when it comes to the persuasions

  408. that they follow,

  409. when it comes to how

  410. they mark their life

  411. in so many ways

  412. that make us sick

  413. to even think about,

  414. instead of condemning folks,

  415. let's get a burden for folks

  416. and realize the only hope

  417. they have is in the Lord Jesus.

  418. Just bring them

  419. to Jesus.

  420. One more thing to notice.

  421. This is as much

  422. why I share this this morning

  423. as anything.

  424. Many lives were changed

  425. by what they witnessed.

  426. Verse 12 says

  427. that He went out

  428. before them all.

  429. That paralytic

  430. that was now walking.

  431. Went out before them all

  432. so that they were all amazed

  433. and glorified God,

  434. saying,

  435. we never saw

  436. anything

  437. like this.

  438. This transformation

  439. was not done in secret.

  440. People saw

  441. what took place

  442. and they couldn't help

  443. but share it.

  444. Do you know

  445. what is so powerful

  446. about when somebody

  447. comes to the Lord?

  448. A life is changed

  449. for eternity.

  450. However,

  451. it does not only

  452. affect that person.

  453. It affects

  454. so many

  455. others.

  456. Now,

  457. I will tell you

  458. just

  459. clearly honest,

  460. I'm a pastor

  461. at heart.

  462. Greatest concern

  463. I have

  464. about the kingdom

  465. of God

  466. is Pickens First

  467. Baptist Church.

  468. that's where

  469. my heart is.

  470. That's my concern.

  471. Any strategic

  472. moves that I make

  473. besides personally

  474. with my walk

  475. with God,

  476. any strategic moves

  477. that I make

  478. spiritually

  479. in doing

  480. what I do

  481. for the Lord

  482. Jesus

  483. is in an effort

  484. to strengthen

  485. the body

  486. of believers

  487. and an effort

  488. to help the church

  489. become stronger.

  490. How does that happen?

  491. It becomes

  492. a reaching church.

  493. It becomes

  494. a church

  495. that's not afraid

  496. to walk across

  497. the street

  498. and invite a neighbor

  499. to come to church

  500. so that they'll hear

  501. the gospel

  502. when they come.

  503. It's not afraid

  504. to even initiate

  505. a conversation

  506. and ask somebody,

  507. let me ask you

  508. something.

  509. Has there ever

  510. been a point

  511. in your life

  512. where you've

  513. come to the point

  514. in your life

  515. where you know

  516. for certain

  517. that you have

  518. eternal life

  519. and you'll go

  520. to heaven

  521. when you die?

  522. And if they say

  523. yes,

  524. then say,

  525. I love to hear

  526. people's testimony.

  527. Can you tell me

  528. when and how

  529. that happened?

  530. Let them share

  531. with you

  532. how Jesus

  533. changed their life

  534. and if that's

  535. not the message

  536. they share,

  537. then share

  538. with them

  539. how Jesus

  540. can change

  541. their life.

  542. church,

  543. not only

  544. can you get

  545. involved

  546. in being a part

  547. of somebody

  548. coming to the

  549. Lord Jesus

  550. by that,

  551. but it changes

  552. your life

  553. and when

  554. your life

  555. is changed

  556. the overflow

  557. of that

  558. affects your

  559. household

  560. and the overflow

  561. of that

  562. affects your

  563. church

  564. and there

  565. begins to be

  566. a momentum

  567. built among

  568. God's people

  569. that we are

  570. looking out

  571. for our

  572. neighbors.

  573. We are

  574. stepping up

  575. and taking

  576. the opportunity

  577. to do

  578. whatever we

  579. can

  580. to bring

  581. folks

  582. to Jesus.

  583. There's an

  584. atmosphere

  585. that takes

  586. place with

  587. that.

  588. Full revival

  589. can start

  590. in a people

  591. when somebody

  592. walks down

  593. an aisle

  594. and gives

  595. his or her

  596. heart

  597. to the

  598. Lord Jesus

  599. Christ.

  600. Salvation

  601. is not

  602. to be

  603. done

  604. in secret.

  605. It's to be

  606. done

  607. publicly.

  608. I just

  609. shared with

  610. somebody

  611. during Sunday

  612. school

  613. who had

  614. questions

  615. about their

  616. salvation

  617. and I

  618. said in

  619. Romans 10

  620. 9 when

  621. it says if

  622. you confess

  623. with your mouth

  624. Jesus is

  625. Lord.

  626. He's not

  627. talking about a

  628. private confession

  629. in the preacher's

  630. office.

  631. It's not what he's

  632. talking about.

  633. No,

  634. what the

  635. Apostle Paul is

  636. looking at is

  637. what was happening

  638. in the Roman

  639. Empire and in

  640. the Roman Empire

  641. at that time

  642. they were

  643. burning incense

  644. before some

  645. icon of Caesar

  646. and saying

  647. Caesar is

  648. Lord.

  649. And then they

  650. could go on

  651. about and be

  652. a Roman citizen

  653. and have the

  654. right to shop

  655. and a right to

  656. live and the

  657. right to have

  658. the freedom

  659. within that

  660. empire.

  661. But when

  662. Christians were

  663. put in that

  664. spot,

  665. standing before

  666. some representative

  667. of Caesar and

  668. they burned

  669. that incense,

  670. instead they said

  671. in their own

  672. language,

  673. Kyrios Christo,

  674. which is

  675. Christ is

  676. Lord.

  677. And because

  678. of that,

  679. they were

  680. thrown in

  681. jail.

  682. Because of

  683. that,

  684. they were put

  685. into exile.

  686. Ask John,

  687. the writer of

  688. Big John,

  689. Three Little

  690. Johns in

  691. Revelation.

  692. Or they lost

  693. their life.

  694. They lost

  695. their life.

  696. Or Nero,

  697. impaled their

  698. bodies and

  699. dipped them

  700. in tar and

  701. lit his garden

  702. with them.

  703. Because they

  704. said Christ is

  705. Lord.

  706. Publicly.

  707. There's never a

  708. time when

  709. Christianity

  710. ought to be done

  711. in private.

  712. is to be done

  713. publicly.

  714. Yes, you live

  715. it out

  716. privately, but

  717. oh, you let

  718. it shine

  719. publicly.

  720. And when we

  721. do that, and

  722. when we confess

  723. our faith before

  724. others, people

  725. get fired up.

  726. Lost people get

  727. saved.

  728. Private

  729. Christians make

  730. their decisions

  731. public.

  732. Churches experience

  733. revival.

  734. The kingdom of God

  735. will grow.

  736. Heaven celebrates.

  737. I believe the

  738. Lord shouts.

  739. Why?

  740. Because some

  741. friends went to

  742. the extreme to

  743. bring a man to

  744. Jesus.

  745. Because Jesus

  746. heals their

  747. deepest hurts.

  748. Because he cures

  749. the deepest wounds.

  750. Because he changed

  751. that man inside and

  752. out.

  753. And because there

  754. were a flock of

  755. folk watching it

  756. happen.

  757. That scripture

  758. tells us left

  759. there saying,

  760. dude, I ain't

  761. ever seen nothing

  762. like that.

  763. I mean, I've

  764. heard some stuff.

  765. But I ain't

  766. ever seen

  767. nothing like that.

  768. Did you hear

  769. what happened?

  770. Tell you, I

  771. ain't never seen

  772. nothing like that.

  773. It changed

  774. our lives.

  775. Let me remind

  776. you of the last

  777. thing Jesus said

  778. before he ascended.

  779. You know it

  780. well.

  781. It's Matthew

  782. 28, 19, 20.

  783. Go therefore and

  784. make disciples of

  785. all nations,

  786. baptizing them in

  787. the name of the

  788. Father and the

  789. Son and the

  790. Holy Spirit,

  791. teaching them to

  792. deserve all that

  793. I've commanded you.

  794. Behold, I am with

  795. you always to the

  796. end of the age.

  797. The last thing he

  798. said.

  799. He closed out his

  800. earthly ministry and

  801. ascended into heaven to

  802. prepare a place for

  803. those who would

  804. surrender their lives to

  805. follow him because he

  806. thought it was the most

  807. important thing for us to

  808. do was to bring folks to

  809. Jesus.

  810. Now the good news is

  811. this.

  812. You don't have to do it

  813. all.

  814. You don't have to do it

  815. all.

  816. God's the one that

  817. does the work.

  818. He's the one that

  819. changes lives.

  820. But God chooses to

  821. use us in that

  822. process.

  823. Andrew got changed by

  824. Christ.

  825. He looked at Simon who

  826. later became Peter and

  827. said, hey, come and see

  828. this.

  829. Philip just did what God

  830. told him to do.

  831. Listen to me.

  832. He just was sensitive to

  833. the Holy Spirit of God.

  834. He just listened to his

  835. leading.

  836. He went where God told

  837. him to go.

  838. And when he got to the

  839. crossroads, the man was

  840. searching the scriptures,

  841. trying to find an answer

  842. for a prophecy that

  843. proclaimed that Christ was

  844. coming and didn't

  845. understand it.

  846. And when Philip shared

  847. with him what it meant,

  848. don't you all see God

  849. all over that?

  850. I mean, the man is

  851. struggling and searching

  852. on his own.

  853. And God brings a man

  854. who's led by him to

  855. speak to him exactly

  856. where he is.

  857. And his life is changed.

  858. That's the divine

  859. appointment, folks.

  860. God loves making divine

  861. appointments.

  862. And he wants us a part

  863. of that.

  864. And some folks are

  865. going to scatter seed.

  866. And some folks are

  867. going to come behind

  868. that and water it.

  869. And some folks are

  870. going to see the harvest

  871. come.

  872. I don't care if you're

  873. scattering or you're

  874. watering or you're

  875. harvesting.

  876. Listen, let's just

  877. let it grow.

  878. Let it grow.

  879. You don't have to tote

  880. the whole man on your

  881. back.

  882. You just got to grab

  883. a corner.

  884. Just do something

  885. to share your faith

  886. with somebody else.

  887. And let God use us.

  888. Don't misunderstand me.

  889. He can save the world

  890. without us.

  891. But man, I sure don't

  892. want him to.

  893. I want to be a part of

  894. it.

  895. I want us to be a part

  896. of it.

  897. Let's grab a corner and

  898. make a difference for the

  899. kingdom of God.

  900. With every head bowed and

  901. every eye closed, I think

  902. you know my burden is that

  903. if you're here this morning

  904. and you don't know the

  905. Lord Jesus, today's the day

  906. of salvation.

  907. You come, we'd love to

  908. share with you what it

  909. means to give your heart

  910. and life to the Lord

  911. Jesus.

  912. He will forever change

  913. you, I promise.

  914. He is better than we

  915. are.

  916. Don't look at us as

  917. examples.

  918. He's stronger and better

  919. and more real than we

  920. are, I promise you.

  921. And he'll change your

  922. life.

  923. You come to Christ with

  924. boldness.

  925. Don't wait.

  926. We'll stand and sing.

  927. You don't sing a note.

  928. You just come.

  929. Maybe you're here and you

  930. do know you're a Christian,

  931. but you've done that

  932. privately.

  933. You've never made that

  934. public through baptism.

  935. You've never told anybody

  936. what God has done in your

  937. life.

  938. Maybe just a handful of

  939. people know.

  940. You've never made that

  941. public through baptism.

  942. I want you to know the

  943. first step of obedience to

  944. follow Christ is through

  945. baptism.

  946. And the devil would love to

  947. keep you ashamed of the

  948. decision you made and

  949. afraid of the decision you

  950. made.

  951. I encourage you to come.

  952. Be bold.

  953. You will never know this

  954. side of eternity, the

  955. difference that it makes

  956. when you obey God and

  957. walk forward and are

  958. baptized.

  959. I always, 100% of the

  960. time, see lives changed

  961. because somebody else got

  962. baptized.

  963. You don't need to do it

  964. if you've done it as a

  965. Christian, but if you've

  966. never done it as a

  967. Christian, you need to do

  968. it if you're saved today.

  969. Maybe God's leading you to

  970. be a part of this

  971. fellowship.

  972. How we'd love to allow

  973. you to join us in the

  974. journey.

  975. Let us grow in the Lord

  976. together.

  977. Let us sharpen each other

  978. as iron sharpens iron.

  979. Let's be faithful to do

  980. that.

  981. I don't have a clue what

  982. God's telling you this

  983. morning.

  984. I know what he told me to

  985. say and I trust him with

  986. the results.

  987. I just want you to be

  988. obedient.

  989. Just do what he tells you

  990. to do.

  991. Never do more than what he

  992. tells you to do.

  993. Never be satisfied with

  994. less.

  995. Lord Jesus, I love you and

  996. I thank you for your word

  997. and I ask your God that

  998. you'll help us to live in

  999. response to it.

1000. Oh God, lay somebody on

  1001. our heart right now,

  1002. Father.

1003. Give us the boldness for

  1004. it, Father, to follow

  1005. through.

1006. Have your will and your

1007. way right now in our

  1008. midst, Lord.

  1009. In Jesus' precious name,

  1010. amen.

  1011. Amen.
