  1. Thank you so much, Richard, for sharing that.

  2. I love that song.

  3. If you have your Bibles, turn to Luke chapter 14.

    Luke 14 chapter mention

  4. Luke chapter 14, and some of y'all are going to look at the

    Luke 14 chapter mention

  5. title of my sermon and say, preacher, that's inappropriate.

  6. I figure there's pools of people planning on meeting after the

  7. service to talk about the radical preacher.

  8. And if you think that, I have to say to you, what kind of party

  9. have you been going to?

  10. Apparently, you ain't partying appropriately.

  11. That's what it sounds like to me.

  12. Because Jesus did go to weddings, and Jesus did go to dinner

  13. parties on several occasions, and we have some of those in

  14. Scripture.

  15. And in our passage this morning, Jesus was invited to eat at a

  16. main Pharisee's house, and the whole crowd had their eye on him,

  17. watching him to see what he would do.

  18. And upon arriving, there was a man with dropsy.

  19. That is an old-time word for bad edema.

  20. It's the kind of swelling that congestive heart failure can cause.

  21. And he was dealing with that, and Jesus healed him.

  22. And then asked, is it all right that I do that since it's the

  23. Lord's day?

  24. And healing is considered work.

  25. Do you help somebody out if you can on the day of rest, or do you let it go

  26. until another day?

  27. That was the dilemma here.

  28. Jesus helped the man.

  29. That was his decision, and that was controversial.

  30. Some didn't like that.

  31. By the way, somebody's not going to like it when you go out of your way to

  32. help somebody else in the name of Christ.

  33. Somebody's not going to like it.

  34. And that didn't stop Christ, and that shouldn't stop you.

  35. God opens a door, and he leads you to do it.

  36. You do it.

  37. Let it fall where it may.

  38. But I'll tell you what happened with this.

  39. It set the mood of the party, and Jesus, as only he can do, takes advantage of the opportunity

  40. and teaches us and them how to party like him and how to party for him.

  41. Luke chapter 14, beginning in verse 7, and I'm not going to read all this passage right now.

    Luke 14 chapter mention

  42. I'm going to read it as we go along, because it's a lot to digest.

  43. It says in verse 7, it says this.

  44. Now he told a parable to those who were invited.

  45. When he noticed how they chose the places of honor, saying to them,

  46. When you're invited by someone to a wedding feast, do not sit down in a place of honor.

  47. Let someone more distinguished than you be invited by him.

  48. And he who has invited you both will come and say to you,

  49. Give your place to this person.

  50. And then you will begin with shame to take the lowest place.

  51. But when you are invited, go and sit in the lowest place,

  52. so that when your host comes, he may say to you,

  53. Friend, move up higher.

  54. Then you'll be honored in the presence of all who sit at table with you.

  55. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled,

  56. and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

  57. First rule of party is enter humbly.

  58. Wherever you're going, whatever gathering you're in,

  59. every kind of party you frequent, you enter humbly.

  60. Because it's not about me, and it's not about you, it's about him.

  61. And you say, well, preacher, what are we talking about?

  62. Are we talking about church?

  63. No, no, no, I'm talking about life.

  64. I mean, if you have surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus Christ

  65. and committed your life to Christ, your life is about him.

  66. It's not about me.

  67. It's not about you.

  68. It's about him.

  69. So wherever we venture and whatever we go into,

  70. we ought to enter it humbly.

  71. His example to us was to take the lowest place of the servants.

  72. He was washing feet.

  73. He was washing feet.

  74. And then he was telling folks, do as I do.

  75. In other words, take the lowest spot.

  76. Do what needs to be done to minister to folks.

  77. For years, I attended a football banquet,

  78. a high school football banquet,

  79. because I was the PA announcer,

  80. and I was also the chaplain.

  81. So I saw those guys right when school was over,

  82. and I spoke to them and used some scripture,

  83. some Old Testament battle scene to tell them to go win the fight

  84. and give their heart to Jesus while they're killing the man next to them.

  85. Then we'd eat a meal together,

  86. and then I'd try my best to influence and still follow the rules from the box, the booth.

  87. And I'm trying to do the same thing now for the Pickens Blue Flame.

  88. And every year, they'd have me, they asked me to go to the banquet,

  89. and every year they'd put me at the head table,

  90. but they didn't have the spots marked.

  91. And so there were several wives, I mean, excuse me,

  92. there were several coaches that would sit,

  93. all the coaches would sit at the head table.

  94. Many of them had their wives there, and their wives would sit at that,

  95. and there were a select number of seats.

  96. And you could tell when you walked in the room that it was a select number of seats.

  97. I came alone to those things.

  98. I was not sure where I was to sit.

  99. So I did not go to the head table.

  100. I just sat down.

  101. Just found a spot and sat down.

  102. Someone would come, and I'd say,

  103. what are you doing sitting out here?

  104. You need to sit up there at the head table.

  105. And I'd get up and go to the head table and sit at the head table.

  106. The next year, they'd invite me back.

  107. I'd come back.

  108. I'd walk in the room.

  109. I'd see the head table there.

  110. I also served on the school board during this time as well.

  111. So they invited board members to come.

  112. And so I'd sit down just somewhere out here.

  113. I didn't really care to sit up there, honestly.

  114. The reason they had me up there was not because I was a chaplain,

  115. not because I was there,

  116. because they wanted me to pray so they could eat.

  117. That was what it didn't amount to.

  118. But I'd find somewhere else to sit.

  119. And then somebody would come and say,

  120. Preacher, what are you doing sitting out there?

  121. You need to sit up here.

  122. You need to come up here.

  123. And year after year after year, I never sat down at that head table.

  124. One time after they moved me up there,

  125. another school board member came in and sat down beside me.

  126. And I was thinking, you done messed up.

  127. You ain't read your Bible.

  128. Because everybody knows football coaches don't like the board.

  129. They're not going to invite the school board, you know.

  130. It's not going to sit at the head table.

  131. And sure enough, when they came up,

  132. they didn't have to tell him.

  133. He figured out.

  134. He said, what are you doing up here?

  135. I said, I'm praying for the meal.

  136. He said, oh.

  137. And he got up and left.

  138. And went and sat somewhere else, you know.

  139. I didn't want to be that guy.

  140. And I don't want you to be that guy.

  141. And more importantly than what I want,

  142. Jesus don't want you to be that guy.

  143. The atmosphere that Jesus walked into

  144. was one that culturally had a horseshoe set of tables

  145. with about three at each table.

  146. Sound like a good old Baptist function, don't it?

  147. But that's typically the setting.

  148. And the center of each table

  149. set the guest of honor at that table.

  150. And the closer the table to the center,

  151. the closer, I mean, the higher up you were.

  152. So, I mean, we're talking about, you know,

  153. making sure you sit at the right table, you know.

  154. I mean, making sure you don't mess up.

  155. The further from the head table, the lower the place.

  156. And the host would sit in the lowest place.

  157. Part of hosting, get this,

  158. part of hosting is to be at service to others.

  159. And when Jesus witnessed this scurry

  160. to find the best seats and to sit in the best spot,

  161. there was such an effort led

  162. that some people were embarrassed

  163. because they messed up.

  164. They sat too high up.

  165. And, you know, and the whole time,

  166. it's like a middle school kickball game, you know.

  167. I mean, they're picking who sits where, you know.

  168. And, oh man, they didn't pick me, you know.

  169. Well, nobody's left.

  170. You sit at the last one, you know.

  171. It's one of those kind of situations.

  172. And Jesus is watching all of this take place.

  173. What a blessing it is to see somebody

  174. walk in such a room as that

  175. and not be wrapped up in any of that.

  176. I like the way G. Campbell Morgan put his old-time commentator.

  177. He said,

  178. Those who are willing to play second fiddle

  179. make beautiful music indeed in the symphony of life.

  180. You don't have to be the main thing.

  181. Let me let you in on something.

  182. You ain't.

  183. And nor am I.

  184. It's not about us.

  185. It's really not.

  186. And to take the seat of honor

  187. is not only to elevate yourself,

  188. but you are devaluing everyone else in the room.

  189. And when you upgrade yourself,

  190. you actually downgrade.

  191. But if you degrade,

  192. and you also degrade everyone else.

  193. And we need to keep that idea in the kingdom of God.

  194. Jesus didn't stop there there.

  195. He went on.

  196. And it says in verse 12,

  197. He said also to the man who had invited him,

  198. When you give a dinner or banquet,

  199. don't invite your friends or your brothers

  200. or your relatives or rich neighbors,

  201. lest they also invite you in return

  202. and you be repaid.

  203. But when you give a feast,

  204. invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind,

  205. and you'll be blessed

  206. because they can't repay you.

  207. For you'll be repaid

  208. at the resurrection of the just.

  209. The second rule of partying like Jesus

  210. is invite others.

  211. Invite others.

  212. Let me first tell you what Jesus is not saying.

  213. I want to be clear about this.

  214. He's not saying that there's a problem

  215. with eating a meal with your friends.

  216. That's not what he's saying.

  217. That's fellowship.

  218. Fellowship.

  219. And fellowship is sweet.

  220. And Jesus did that very thing.

  221. Mary and Martha and Lazarus invited him over

  222. and he ate a meal with them.

  223. And the whole neighborhood wasn't there with them.

  224. They ate a meal together.

  225. And there's nothing wrong with that.

  226. You can just invite the preacher

  227. as long as you cook good.

  228. That's all you have to do.

  229. However, what he wanted this Pharisee to know

  230. that was eating with friends at a dinner party

  231. is this.

  232. That's not ministry.

  233. That's not ministry.

  234. Labor Day Sunday was a great day

  235. in the life of this church.

  236. It was a great day.

  237. I mean, I don't know what y'all used to,

  238. but I had a good time.

  239. That was the way I liked to party, you know.

  240. Because you cooked your best,

  241. fixed your best, did whatever,

  242. and fixed a bunch of it.

  243. I mean, I do work the room usually

  244. while people are lined up.

  245. And I will sneak and get those little

  246. chocolate oatmeal things

  247. because you can do that without making a mess.

  248. And there was an eclair I grabbed a bowl for.

  249. But typically, I kind of work the room

  250. and go through that line almost last.

  251. It's not trying to be,

  252. I just want that time with the family.

  253. And usually when I go through potluck lines,

  254. there ain't nothing left, you know.

  255. I mean, it's somebody who rushed out that morning,

  256. got something stove-bought, you know.

  257. It's almost a sin against God.

  258. But anyway, but, you know,

  259. I mean, I'm eating cupcakes,

  260. I've been sitting at the grocery store for a week,

  261. you know, and whatever that potato salad is

  262. that don't have no taters in it, you know.

  263. I mean, it's that kind of stuff.

  264. And whatever the meat that the church provides,

  265. you know, that's what I eat.

  266. But that meal was not like that at all.

  267. I mean, somebody took all the fried okra.

  268. And I'd like to know who.

  269. We're setting up new cameras and stuff like that

  270. to fix all that.

  271. But there was bunches and bunches of food.

  272. I mean, when you thought you were done,

  273. you got to the elbow of the table, you know.

  274. And then you went, whoa, I done filled up my plate, you know.

  275. There were profane things said at the corner.

  276. It's interesting how that happened, you know.

  277. Because people were going, man, I want that.

  278. And yet I've hogged myself so much

  279. that I ain't got room for it, you know.

  280. It's a great fellowship.

  281. It was not ministry.

  282. Nothing wrong with a fellowship meal.

  283. But eating fine food with all your friends ain't ministry.

  284. It's just fun.

  285. It's just an opportunity to fellowship together.

  286. Ministry is when you invited somebody to come to that dinner.

  287. Want them to be a part of that.

  288. They don't have to bring anything.

  289. They can just come on and be a part of that.

  290. It's not ministry to have supper with your friends.

  291. It's ministry to do something for someone else

  292. that they can't do for you.

  293. That's what ministry is.

  294. Invite people that won't invite you back.

  295. That's when you impact lives.

  296. David's best friend was a man named Jonathan.

  297. King David, his best friend was a man named Jonathan.

  298. And Jonathan was the son of Saul who David succeeded.

  299. But Saul was a nemesis to David.

  300. I mean, David could play the harp.

  301. And he'd come in and play the harp.

  302. And Saul was soothed by that until he wasn't.

  303. And then Saul would chunk a spear at him

  304. while he was playing, you know.

  305. I mean, that's not a good gig for a harp player.

  306. Saul was like that.

  307. David spent much of his life running from Saul

  308. because Saul tried to kill him.

  309. And when David had the opportunity to kill him in a cave,

  310. he didn't do it.

  311. He cut off a corner of his robe

  312. just to show that he gave evidence

  313. that he had let him live.

  314. But then he felt guilty because he had touched

  315. who he called God's anointed

  316. because he shouldn't even mess with his robe.

  317. I mean, it was a fascinating situation.

  318. And Saul would rage and try to kill him.

  319. And in 2 Samuel chapter 9,

    2 Samuel 9 chapter mention

  320. David wants to honor his friend Jonathan's memory.

  321. Jonathan's been killed.

  322. And he wants to honor Jonathan's memory

  323. by finding a relative of Saul

  324. and giving him a place of honor.

  325. And Mephibosheth was mentioned to him.

  326. Mephibosheth was the son of Jonathan

  327. and was only five years old

  328. when his daddy was killed in battle.

  329. And when Jonathan was killed,

  330. a nurse that cared for Mephibosheth

  331. was afraid that after they had killed Jonathan,

  332. they would come after his family.

  333. And they would come after his child.

  334. And so she ran to get away from the child.

  335. And in the running, she fell and she dropped the child.

  336. And that accident from falling crippled Mephibosheth.

  337. So when David called

  338. for a living relative of Saul to come

  339. so he could honor him,

  340. a living relative of Jonathan so he could honor him.

  341. So when David called,

  342. he brought a handicapped grandson of his arch enemy

  343. to his own dining room table

  344. and gave Mephibosheth the family property

  345. that had previously been Saul's.

  346. And when David called Mephibosheth,

  347. Mephibosheth didn't feel worthy of that.

  348. And he knelt before David and said,

  349. what is your servant that you should show regard

  350. for a dead dog such as I?

  351. Mephibosheth was humbled

  352. by just being recognized by the king,

  353. just by being honored by the king.

  354. He could, because Mephibosheth could do nothing for the king.

  355. And typically because of his physical condition,

  356. would never have been invited to such a setting

  357. because of the cultural aspects of that day.

  358. He had nothing to offer,

  359. yet here he is sitting at the king's table.

  360. That, my friend,

  361. that's what Jesus is talking about.

  362. Jesus is talking about inviting others.

  363. Serve those that cannot serve you.

  364. Be a part of a caring ministry.

  365. And we have those types of ministries.

  366. We have those type opportunities from time to time.

  367. And those times will become more often in the future

  368. because we're looking for opportunities

  369. to minister to our community like that.

  370. And as God moves in us, just watch.

  371. Watch.

  372. Ask God to open a door for us

  373. to minister our community.

  374. You'll watch.

  375. We will.

  376. And as he meets our needs,

  377. we'll want to reach others.

  378. Whether that be backpacks

  379. that we gave out before school started.

  380. Or whether that's the Samaritan's Purse

  381. Christmas boxes

  382. that we collect supplies for every month of the year

  383. so that when Christmas rolls around,

  384. actually before Christmas

  385. because they want to get up to them for Christmas,

  386. we can fill those shoeboxes

  387. and send those out.

  388. And I will tell you,

  389. I followed the story of those shoeboxes.

  390. Those kids get the gospel with those shoeboxes.

  391. Not in any kind of manipulative fashion,

  392. in a good old gospel way.

  393. And when they want to know more about Christ,

  394. they're sent through a discipleship program

  395. to teach them of what it means.

  396. They don't have to go through that to get the box.

  397. But with that box comes the story of Jesus

  398. and the invitation and the opportunity.

  399. That's what Jesus does.

  400. And we're to be like Jesus.

  401. And every time we have a meal together,

  402. we get the best of both worlds.

  403. By the way,

  404. that's why we have meals together, okay?

  405. I mean, it helps that people can cook good.

  406. But the reason we have meals together

  407. is so we have a chance to fellowship with friends

  408. and we have a chance to make new friends.

  409. That's what it's about.

  410. So think of someone to invite.

  411. Invite them.

  412. And then when you invite them,

  413. meet them here.

  414. Jesus challenges us to do that.

  415. But it does not stop there.

  416. He don't stop there.

  417. It says in verse 15,

  418. it says,

  419. when one of those who reclined at table with him

  420. heard these things,

  421. he said to him,

  422. blessed is everyone who will eat bread

  423. in the kingdom of God.

  424. But he said to them,

  425. a man once gave a great banquet

  426. and invited many.

  427. And at the time for the banquet,

  428. he sent his servant to say

  429. to those who had been invited,

  430. come for everything is now ready.

  431. But they all alike began to make excuses.

  432. The first said to him,

  433. I bought a field

  434. and I must go out and see it.

  435. Please have me excused.

  436. And another said,

  437. I bought five yoke of oxen

  438. and I go to examine them.

  439. Please have me excused.

  440. And another said,

  441. I've married a wife

  442. and therefore I can't come.

  443. Wow, there's a message there.

  444. So the servant came

  445. and reported these things to his master.

  446. Then the master of the house

  447. became angry and said to his servant,

  448. go out quickly to the streets

  449. and lanes of the city

  450. and bring in the poor

  451. and crippled and blind and lame.

  452. And the servant said,

  453. sir, what you commanded has been done

  454. and there still is room.

  455. And the master said to the servant,

  456. go out to the highways and hedges

  457. and compel people.

  458. Compel them.

  459. Compel people to come in.

  460. That my house may be filled.

  461. For I tell you,

  462. none of those men

  463. who were invited

  464. shall taste my banquet.

  465. Third rule

  466. to party like Jesus

  467. is don't make excuses.

  468. Don't make excuses.

  469. When the Lord invites you

  470. to get in on something,

  471. please don't make excuses.

  472. Because these people

  473. had initially said they'd go.

  474. I mean, when they got

  475. the Facebook invitation,

  476. they checked, I'm going.

  477. And then they didn't show up.

  478. When the time came,

  479. they backed out.

  480. They let other matters

  481. come in the way.

  482. Sometimes our business

  483. gets in the way.

  484. Isn't it amazing

  485. how you always have time

  486. for what's most important to you?

  487. But when something comes up

  488. for the Lord,

  489. sometimes it's hard

  490. to find the time.

  491. The first excuse,

  492. these are interesting excuses,

  493. the first excuse

  494. is that it gives,

  495. the man buys a field

  496. that he's not seen.

  497. He bought it online.

  498. online.

  499. Some of y'all want me

  500. to tell the truth.

  501. Okay, they didn't have

  502. online sales then, okay?

  503. Just in case you didn't.

  504. Somebody will call me out,

  505. you know.

  506. Is there a reason why

  507. looking at the field

  508. that he's already bought

  509. could not wait

  510. until after the banquet?

  511. He was putting off

  512. what the man

  513. who invited him wanted.

  514. You've been invited.

  515. Don't put off

  516. what God wants.

  517. The next one

  518. bought oxen

  519. sight unseen.

  520. Listen,

  521. don't look a gift horse

  522. and a mouse,

  523. but if you're paying for it,

  524. you better take a peek

  525. at it, you know.

  526. I bought a car

  527. one time

  528. sight unseen.

  529. We were looking

  530. to replace our vehicle

  531. and we,

  532. I was,

  533. I was out of town.

  534. I was at a meeting

  535. and I took a lunch

  536. and after lunch

  537. I stopped by a dealership

  538. and did not see

  539. what I was looking for

  540. and the guy said,

  541. that's not a problem at all.

  542. We own a thousand lots

  543. across the country.

  544. I can find whatever you want

  545. and so I said,

  546. well, I'll tell you

  547. what I want

  548. and I called my wife

  549. to find out what I wanted

  550. and then

  551. I gave him the description

  552. is a used vehicle

  553. and it had this

  554. and this

  555. and this

  556. and this

  557. and this

  558. and he said,

  559. I found it

  560. and we'll have it in,

  561. I don't remember,

  562. five days.

  563. I was 160 miles

  564. from home

  565. and so I went back

  566. to my meeting

  567. and I went on home

  568. and I mean,

  569. we did the contract

  570. and the whole bit.

  571. I said,

  572. what if I don't like it?

  573. I mean,

  574. what if it gets

  575. and I said,

  576. well,

  577. if you just don't like it,

  578. then,

  579. I mean,

  580. you're stuck

  581. but if there's a problem

  582. with it,

  583. if it's not what we said

  584. it was,

  585. then,

  586. then,

  587. you know,

  588. you don't have to buy it.

  589. Okay, good.

  590. So I went home

  591. and they called me

  592. and we rode

  593. 160 miles

  594. to go get this car

  595. and I got in the car

  596. and we rode across

  597. the parking,

  598. the guy was driving,

  599. excuse me,

  600. the guy was driving.

  601. We drove across the parking lot,

  602. got in the road

  603. and the pandemic roof

  604. started vibrating

  605. and I know it's a panoramic

  606. but it started making

  607. all kinds of racket

  608. and I knew it wasn't

  609. going to cut it

  610. and I was just saying,

  611. Lord,

  612. don't let her hear it.

  613. It didn't cut it

  614. so I said,

  615. dude,

  616. this ain't going to work.

  617. I said,

  618. it wasn't supposed

  619. to be in this condition.

  620. Oh,

  621. no,

  622. it's not a problem,

  623. not a problem.

  624. So he turned around

  625. and went back.

  626. They took it back

  627. in the shop.

  628. Okay,

  629. I'm not a guy

  630. who could buy a car

  631. and sit in the booth

  632. and wait on them.

  633. Okay,

  634. I sold cars one summer.

  635. I asked God

  636. for forgiveness

  637. and

  638. and so I know

  639. the strategies

  640. that go with that

  641. and I don't,

  642. I don't sit there.

  643. I don't like it

  644. and so I went

  645. looking for my vehicle

  646. that I done bought.

  647. Sight unseen,

  648. guaranteed

  649. and I walked back

  650. in the shop

  651. and they are

  652. wiping some type

  653. of silicone

  654. on

  655. the gears

  656. of that

  657. of that sunroof

  658. to try to get it

  659. to be quiet,

  660. you know

  661. and I heard

  662. one of them say,

  663. well,

  664. I don't think

  665. she's that worried

  666. about it.

  667. I walked up behind

  668. them.

  669. They didn't know

  670. I was standing there.

  671. That's the kind

  672. of guy I am.

  673. I walked up

  674. behind them

  675. and he said,

  676. I don't think

  677. she's that worried

  678. about it.

  679. So I walked back in.

  680. She's sitting

  681. in the lobby

  682. and I said,

  683. they don't think

  684. you're worried

  685. about it.

  686. That changed

  687. the whole atmosphere.

  688. I promise you

  689. and so we got

  690. the car back

  691. and took it

  692. in the parking lot

  693. from here

  694. to the front door

  695. and turned it around

  696. and I said,

  697. I want you to shred

  698. every document

  699. that I signed

  700. the other day

  701. because you didn't

  702. do what you said

  703. you did.

  704. You said you'd

  705. have it clean.

  706. There's a coffee

  707. stain on the back

  708. seat that could

  709. be wiped.

  710. I can lick it

  711. off if I wanted

  712. to.

  713. I said,

  714. but you didn't

  715. do what you said

  716. you were doing.

  717. You sold me

  718. a bad bag of goods.

  719. I don't care

  720. how many car lots

  721. you want.

  722. I don't want

  723. nothing to do

  724. with you.

  725. They said,

  726. we'd love to

  727. fill up your tank

  728. and we're sorry.

  729. They shredded

  730. everything.

  731. We'd love to

  732. fill up your tank.

  733. We're sorry.

  734. I don't want

  735. your gas.

  736. It might have

  737. water in it.

  738. I'll be fine.

  739. We drove home

  740. and bought

  741. another car.

  742. I don't buy

  743. them unseen

  744. no more

  745. because it

  746. didn't work.

  747. This man

  748. bought something

  749. unseen,

  750. but that's

  751. what this man

  752. did and

  753. that made

  754. a great

  755. excuse

  756. not to be

  757. a part

  758. of a banquet

  759. that he

  760. was invited

  761. to.

  762. Now,

  763. let's be

  764. honest.

  765. He didn't

  766. want to go.

  767. He didn't

  768. want to go

  769. and we miss

  770. out on what

  771. the Lord

  772. wants us

  773. to do so

  774. very often

  775. to be honest

  776. because we

  777. don't want

  778. to go.

  779. We don't

  780. want to do

  781. it.

  782. And I'm

  783. just telling

  784. you when

  785. God gives

  786. it to you,

  787. it is not

  788. simply an

  789. invitation.

  790. It's a

  791. commission.

  792. He's charged

  793. you to

  794. share, to

  795. compel the

  796. world to

  797. come to

  798. Christ.

  799. He said

  800. it.

  801. He don't

  802. offer

  803. suggestions.

  804. And we

  805. miss out

  806. on so

  807. much

  808. because we're

  809. so busy.

  810. The next

  811. one said

  812. I'm married

  813. and I

  814. can't go.

  815. And there's

  816. a lot I

  817. could say

  818. about that

  819. but there's

  820. a sermon

  821. on marriage

  822. that I don't

  823. want to touch

  824. because I've

  825. spent a week

  826. moving into

  827. a new house

  828. and spent

  829. the last

  830. night,

  831. last night

  832. we spent

  833. the first

  834. night in

  835. that house

  836. and we

  837. don't camp

  838. but that

  839. must be

  840. what camping

  841. is like.

  842. Where do

  843. we put

  844. that?

  845. Where is

  846. that?

  847. I will

  848. say this.

  849. Spouses

  850. never get

  851. in the way

  852. of your

  853. spouse

  854. serving

  855. the Lord.

  856. Don't

  857. do it.

  858. I am

  859. thankful

  860. that God

  861. gave me

  862. a wife

  863. that knows

  864. that need

  865. calls at

  866. any time

  867. and we've

  868. been rerouted

  869. on occasion

  870. and I've

  871. never heard

  872. a complaint.

  873. Don't

  874. let your

  875. spouses

  876. legitimately

  877. say

  878. I can't

  879. serve this

  880. way

  881. because of

  882. my husband

  883. or because

  884. of my

  885. wife

  886. because in

  887. God's

  888. kingdom

  889. we shouldn't

  890. have any

  891. excuses.

  892. so

  893. let's

  894. get on

  895. and party

  896. like

  897. Jesus.

  898. Don't

  899. do a

  900. party

  901. don't do

  902. a party

  903. what he

  904. wouldn't

  905. do

  906. and that

  907. may be a

  908. whole other

  909. sermon too

  910. and don't

  911. go to a

  912. party where

  913. he wouldn't

  914. be welcome

  915. you've got a

  916. testimony

  917. you've got a

  918. reputation

  919. and a

  920. responsibility

  921. and if

  922. you're a

  923. child of

  924. God you

  925. have a

  926. responsibility

  927. to win

  928. the world

  929. of Christ

  930. you don't

  931. have to look

  932. like him

  933. to win

  934. him to

  935. Christ

  936. and if

  937. you look

  938. too much

  939. like him

  940. you will

  941. not be

  942. saw

  943. you will

  944. not be

  945. light

  946. hear me

  947. church

  948. don't go

  949. to a

  950. party

  951. where

  952. Christ

  953. ain't

  954. welcome

  955. if he

  956. walked

  957. in

  958. would

  959. you

  960. be

  961. embarrassed

  962. don't

  963. do

  964. things

  965. at a

  966. party

  967. that

  968. would

  969. dishonor

  970. him

  971. instead

  972. party

  973. like

  974. he

  975. does

  976. enter

  977. humbly

  978. invite

  979. others

  980. to join

  981. you

  982. and

  983. quit

  984. making

  985. excuses

  986. because

  987. if

  988. Jesus

  989. is

  990. your

  991. Lord

  992. and

  993. Savior

  994. we

  995. got

  996. a lot

  997. to

  998. celebrate

  999. and

  1000. I

  1001. think

  1002. as

  1003. long

  1004. as

  1005. God

  1006. gives

  1007. us

  1008. breath

  1009. we

  1010. ought

  1011. to

  1012. stay

  1013. after

  1014. it

  1015. and

  1016. party

  1017. like

  1018. Jesus

  1019. with

  1020. every

  1021. head

  1022. bowed

  1023. and

  1024. every

  1025. eye

  1026. closed

  1027. if

  1028. you're

  1029. here

  1030. this

  1031. morning

  1032. and

  1033. you

  1034. don't

  1035. know

  1036. the

  1037. Lord

  1038. Jesus

  1039. personally

  1040. there's

  1041. never

  1042. been

  1043. a

  1044. time

  1045. in

  1046. your

  1047. life

  1048. when

  1049. you've

  1050. surrendered

  1051. your

  1052. life

  1053. to

  1054. Christ

  1055. and

  1056. ask

  1057. him

  1058. to

  1059. cleanse

  1060. you

  1061. and

  1062. to

  1063. change

  1064. you

  1065. and

  1066. to

  1067. renew

  1068. you

  1069. I

  1070. want

  1071. you

  1072. to

  1073. know

  1074. that

  1075. today

  1076. we

  1077. extend

  1078. that

  1079. invitation

  1080. we

  1081. don't

  1082. do

  1083. it

  1084. on

  1085. our

  1086. own

  1087. today

  1088. is

  1089. the

  1090. day

  1091. of

  1092. salvation

  1093. and

  1094. Jesus

  1095. is

  1096. the

  1097. same

  1098. yesterday

  1099. today

  1100. and

  1101. forever

  1102. he's

  1103. always

  1104. there

  1105. ready

  1106. and

  1107. willing

  1108. he'll

  1109. lead

  1110. you

  1111. and

  1112. when

  1113. you

  1114. respond

  1115. he'll

  1116. save

  1117. you

  1118. we'll

  1119. stand

  1120. in

  1121. just

  1122. a

  1123. moment

  1124. and

  1125. we'll

  1126. sing

  1127. but

  1128. more

  1129. important

  1130. than

  1131. that

  1132. is

  1133. that

  1134. you

  1135. follow

  1136. what

  1137. God

  1138. would

  1139. tell

  1140. you

  1141. to

  1142. do

  1143. anything

  1144. step

  1145. in

  1146. the

  1147. way

  1148. maybe

  1149. you're

  1150. here

  1151. and

  1152. you

  1153. know

  1154. you've

  1155. done

  1156. that

  1157. but

  1158. you've

  1159. never

  1160. acknowledged

  1161. that

  1162. publicly

  1163. salvation

  1164. to you

  1165. is a

  1166. private

  1167. matter

  1168. the

  1169. reality

  1170. is

  1171. Jesus

  1172. shows

  1173. us

  1174. and

  1175. proclaims

  1176. that we

  1177. are to

  1178. let others

  1179. know

  1180. what

  1181. Christ

  1182. has

  1183. done

  1184. in

  1185. us

  1186. maybe

  1187. you

  1188. want

  1189. to

  1190. join

  1191. this

  1192. church

  1193. today

  1194. and

  1195. let

  1196. people

  1197. know

  1198. that

  1199. you're

  1200. a

  1201. child

  1202. of

  1203. God

  1204. and

  1205. come

  1206. by

  1207. baptism

  1208. we'd

  1209. love

  1210. to

  1211. guide

  1212. you

  1213. through

  1214. that

  1215. process

  1216. if

  1217. you

  1218. have

  1219. questions

  1220. along

  1221. the

  1222. way

  1223. we'll

  1224. answer

  1225. them

  1226. we'll

  1227. guide

  1228. you

  1229. there

  1230. maybe

  1231. God's

  1232. drawing

  1233. you

  1234. to

  1235. this

  1236. congregation

  1237. you

  1238. know

  1239. that

  1240. God

  1241. would

  1242. have

  1243. you

  1244. to

  1245. be

  1246. a

  1247. part

  1248. of

  1249. this

  1250. congregation

  1251. we

  1252. invite

  1253. you

  1254. to

  1255. come

  1256. if

  1257. there's

  1258. questions

  1259. along

  1260. the

  1261. way

  1262. we'll

  1263. deal

  1264. with

  1265. that

  1266. you

  1267. just

  1268. obey

  1269. God

  1270. and

  1271. do

  1272. what

  1273. God

  1274. would

  1275. have

  1276. you

  1277. do

  1278. maybe

  1279. you're

  1280. here

  1281. this

  1282. morning

  1283. you just

  1284. need

  1285. to get

  1286. some

  1287. things

  1288. right

  1289. and you

  1290. can do

  1291. that

  1292. where

  1293. you

  1294. sit

  1295. and

  1296. where

  1297. you'll

  1298. stand

  1299. in a few

  1300. moments

  1301. or you

  1302. can do

  1303. it at

  1304. this

  1305. altar

  1306. you can

  1307. do it

  1308. with a

  1309. pastor

  1310. praying

  1311. for you

  1312. makes

  1313. no

  1314. difference

  1315. to me

  1316. my

  1317. burden

  1318. is

  1319. that

  1320. you

  1321. do

  1322. exactly

  1323. what

  1324. God

  1325. tells

  1326. you

  1327. to

  1328. do

  1329. I

  1330. had

  1331. somebody

  1332. last

  1333. week

  1334. tell

  1335. me

  1336. God

  1337. told

  1338. me

  1339. to

  1340. do

  1341. this

  1342. during

  1343. the

  1344. invitation

  1345. and

  1346. I

  1347. just

  1348. didn't

  1349. do

  1350. it

  1351. don't

  1352. let

  1353. that

  1354. be

  1355. your

  1356. story

  1357. when

  1358. Christ

  1359. invites

  1360. you

  1361. respond

  1362. no

  1363. more

  1364. excuses

  1365. heavenly

  1366. father

  1367. I

  1368. love

  1369. you

  1370. and

  1371. I

  1372. thank

  1373. you

  1374. for

  1375. the

  1376. opportunity

  1377. that

  1378. you

  1379. give

  1380. us

  1381. to

  1382. be

  1383. together

  1384. today

  1385. God

  1386. will

  1387. you

  1388. give

  1389. us

  1390. the

  1391. strength

  1392. and

  1393. the

  1394. boldness

  1395. and

  1396. the

  1397. obedience

  1398. and

  1399. the

  1400. fortitude

  1401. to

  1402. do

  1403. exactly

  1404. what

  1405. you

  1406. tell

  1407. us

  1408. to

  1409. do

  1410. nothing

  1411. more

  1412. nothing

  1413. less

  1414. right

  1415. now

  1416. oh

  1417. God

  1418. I

  1419. pray

  1420. in

  1421. Jesus

  1422. name

  1423. Amen

  1424. you
