  1. Luke chapter 18, if you've ever prayed about a matter so long that you just want to quit praying about it, this message is for you.

    Luke 18 chapter mention

  2. If your prayer lacks faithful endurance, this message is for you.

  3. If you talk about it more than you do it, this prayer is for you.

  4. If you ever struggled in praying over something, this message is for you.

  5. If none of that applies to you, this message is for you.

  6. Because you're not honest about your prayer life.

  7. Too hardened to see the struggle.

  8. So regardless, I believe this message is for you.

  9. And me.

  10. It's in Luke chapter 18, beginning in verse 1.

    Luke 18 chapter mention

  11. And it says,

  12. And Jesus told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart.

  13. He said in a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man.

  14. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying,

  15. Give me justice against my adversary.

  16. For a while he refused.

  17. But afterward he said to himself,

  18. Though I neither fear God nor respect man,

  19. Yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I'll give her justice.

  20. So that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.

  21. And the Lord said,

  22. Hear what the unrighteous judge says.

  23. And will not God give justice to his elect who cry to him day and night?

  24. Will he delay long over them?

  25. I tell you, he will give justice to them spedly.

  26. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes,

  27. will he find faith on earth?

  28. Last week I shared with you a parable that I was preaching from

  29. that I told you would you be difficult.

  30. It was difficult and one that seldom was preached on because of its difficulty.

  31. And some of you told me afterwards that you'd never heard a sermon on that parable.

  32. And if I preach that again in a couple of years, which I probably won't,

  33. but if I did, you'd probably come back to me and say,

  34. I've never heard a sermon on that parable before.

  35. This one is tough too, but for, and for some of the same reason.

  36. So I want to clarify something immediately

  37. so that you know,

  38. and then we can get on to how to apply this to our life.

  39. God's not in this story.

  40. Don't misunderstand me.

  41. See, the story is from God.

  42. And Jesus told the story, but God's not a character in Jesus's story.

  43. The judge in this story is not God.

  44. God's nothing like this judge.

  45. I want to show you that,

  46. and I want to show you the difference between God and this judge

  47. and see why that difference ought to impact our prayer lives.

  48. First thing I want you to see is the nature of God.

  49. The nature of God.

  50. This judge that Jesus describes in this story is godless,

  51. and he's either an egomaniac or a sociopath.

  52. Because Jesus states that he didn't care about God or about people,

  53. and then he knew it about himself as well.

  54. He couldn't care less about this woman's problems,

  55. but she wears him down.

  56. So he acts toward her as he should,

  57. but not because he cares,

  58. and not because he's concerned,

  59. not because he's determined that fairness and justice must reign supreme.

  60. To be honest, he's just tired of her.

  61. It's not worth it to him to not respond.

  62. Who cares anyway?

  63. It's his attitude.

  64. It's the same effort that any child makes when he wants a snack

  65. or she wants a toy.

  66. And the thought is I'll make my parents as miserable as possible

  67. until I get what I want.

  68. I have two girls,

  69. and I'm pretty soft sometimes.

  70. I'm not saying give in to it

  71. because that's a sermon for another day,

  72. but I'm saying this judge said just hush already,

  73. and I'll do it.

  74. And that may sound like a parent from time to time.

  75. But that's this judge.

  76. That's not God.

  77. God expects us to ask.

  78. God tells us to ask.

  79. James chapter 4 verse 2 and 3 says,

    James 4:2

  80. you do not have because you do not ask.

  81. You ask and do not receive because you ask wrongly.

  82. The nature of God is nothing like this man's sinful nature.

  83. I'll tell you another difference between God and this judge

  84. is the justice of God.

  85. The justice of God.

  86. There were two kinds of judges in this culture.

  87. There was an orthodox judge in the tradition of Moses.

  88. And there's a wonderful story, true story,

  89. in Exodus chapter 18,

    Exodus 18 chapter mention

  90. when Moses' father-in-law, Jethro, comes to see Moses.

  91. He makes a visit.

  92. And he sees Moses being pushed and pulled every way

  93. as he tries to adjudicate every conflict

  94. that the people of God had amongst each other.

  95. All of them would come to Moses.

  96. And it literally says that it went from morning until night.

  97. Moses was constantly hearing of these conflicts

  98. and making a judgment on each one.

  99. And Jethro saw it, watched it, and said,

  100. and you got to look deep into Hebrew to see this,

  101. dude, you got to chill.

  102. You're going to wear out.

  103. You can't do this.

  104. You need to develop a court system

  105. that covers small numbers of people.

  106. And then when there's a problem with that,

  107. let them go to the next level.

  108. And if there's a problem with that,

  109. let them go to the next level.

  110. He gave specific instructions,

  111. and Moses followed his advice.

  112. And then only the cases,

  113. the only cases he saw

  114. were those Supreme Court-type cases,

  115. those ones that could not be handled otherwise.

  116. Based upon that system,

  117. there were judges that upheld the law of Moses

  118. and its principles.

  119. But there's another judge

  120. that was common in this day,

  121. and that was an appointed Roman judge.

  122. They were appointed by Rome,

  123. appointed by Herod,

  124. and they worked without pay

  125. from the government.

  126. They made the verdict that they needed to make

  127. in order to make a living.

  128. A good living.

  129. And so,

  130. it's very possibly that kind of judge

  131. that this widow,

  132. who on the other hand has no clout at all,

  133. in that atmosphere,

  134. in that society,

  135. poor and powerless,

  136. typically,

  137. she would be desperate.

  138. And this situation sounds financial,

  139. and she wants or needs someone to pay up.

  140. And there is desperation in what she says.

  141. I mean, she wants somebody,

  142. the original language is very clear about this,

  143. somebody to pay.

  144. And that could be somewhat vindictive,

  145. and it could be somewhat in need.

  146. Quite honestly,

  147. if you get hungry enough,

  148. it's hard to tell the difference.

  149. You just need the matter taken care of.

  150. And so,

  151. she asked again,

  152. and again,

  153. and again,

  154. and the judge gives her what she wants,

  155. not for the sake of justice,

  156. but because he does not want to be beat down by the lady.

  157. That's a boxing term there.

  158. It can be interpreted as,

  159. I don't want her to give me a black eye.

  160. I don't want her to make me look bad.

  161. She keeps following me around,

  162. begging me,

  163. and I keep not responding to that.

  164. She could hurt my reputation.

  165. So,

  166. he acted quickly to make her go away.

  167. Not anything to do with justice.

  168. Just make her go away.

  169. Because remember,

  170. he has no fear of God,

  171. nor does he care for people.

  172. He's self-centered,

  173. and he makes the decision for his sake.

  174. So,

  175. don't ever get confused here.

  176. This judge is not God,

  177. and does not represent God,

  178. because God loves us,

  179. and cannot,

  180. we cannot beat him down.

  181. He's not concerned about us beating him down.

  182. We can't give God a black eye.

  183. Neither can anybody else,

  184. by the way.

  185. God's motive is not escape.

  186. God's motive is not to get us to hush,

  187. not giving us what we want,

  188. or not to be intimidated,

  189. or not to be bothered.

  190. God's motive is just.

  191. It's fair.

  192. It's right.

  193. It's his will.

  194. And this godless,

  195. disrespectful Roman judge

  196. did something good for this poor lady.

  197. If she,

  198. if he would do that,

  199. how much more would a loving,

  200. just God do something for us?

  201. I want you to listen to what Christ says

  202. in the Sermon on the Mount,

  203. Matthew chapter 7,

    Matthew 7 chapter mention

  204. 7 through 11,

  205. about making a request to God.

  206. He says,

  207. ask,

  208. and it will be given to you.

  209. Seek,

  210. and you will find.

  211. Knock,

  212. and it will be opened to you.

  213. For everyone who asks,

  214. receives,

  215. and the one who seeks,

  216. finds,

  217. and to the one who knocks,

  218. it will be opened.

  219. Or which one of you,

  220. if his son asks him for bread,

  221. will give him a stone?

  222. Or if he asks for a fish,

  223. will give him a serpent?

  224. If you then who are evil

  225. know how to give good gifts to your children,

  226. how much more will your father,

  227. who is in heaven,

  228. give good gifts to those who ask him?

  229. In other words,

  230. folks,

  231. listen to me.

  232. Bring it to him.

  233. Whatever it is,

  234. he knows what's right.

  235. He'll get it right every time.

  236. You can rest in that

  237. because God is just.

  238. I'll tell you another difference

  239. between this judge and God.

  240. And that is the timing

  241. of God.

  242. At first,

  243. for a time,

  244. this judge refused

  245. to give the lady

  246. her request.

  247. And her persistence

  248. dragged him down

  249. to the point

  250. where he just gave in.

  251. Again,

  252. I want you to know

  253. that that's not how God works.

  254. God wants us to pray.

  255. God wants us to pursue.

  256. And he don't want us

  257. to stop praying.

  258. He is working in us

  259. as we pray.

  260. But he will not be

  261. dragged down

  262. by our prayers.

  263. God moves

  264. when and as

  265. God chooses to move.

  266. And one of the great

  267. difficulties that we have

  268. when we seek the Lord

  269. in prayer

  270. is the timing of God.

  271. We just can't figure it out.

  272. We just can't get it.

  273. Because when we pray

  274. for something,

  275. we want it

  276. and it'd be best

  277. if we have confirmation

  278. immediately.

  279. We want it now.

  280. We want it our way.

  281. But that's not how God works.

  282. God purposely

  283. delays.

  284. His delay

  285. keeps us before him.

  286. His delay

  287. teaches us

  288. patience.

  289. You don't have to,

  290. I don't like when people say

  291. don't pray for patience

  292. because God's going to

  293. whoop you like a dog.

  294. I just don't like

  295. that kind of dog.

  296. It's the fruit of the spirit.

  297. We ought to have it.

  298. I'll just tell you this.

  299. And some,

  300. some of our fruit

  301. and patience

  302. is not that,

  303. not that rosy.

  304. But

  305. I'll just tell you this.

  306. If you'll pray

  307. about matters

  308. consistently before God,

  309. he'll teach you patience.

  310. You don't have to pray for it.

  311. Just pray for the matters

  312. that are burdensome to you

  313. because God's

  314. has a purposeful delay

  315. that teaches us patience.

  316. His,

  317. his delay

  318. matures our faith

  319. because we're trusting him.

  320. God responds on,

  321. on his schedule.

  322. God does not respond

  323. on our schedule.

  324. And we can become

  325. as frustrated

  326. as we want to

  327. and we can yell out

  328. and walk out

  329. in the backyard

  330. and put on a show.

  331. God's timing

  332. is based upon

  333. the will of God

  334. and you can rest in that.

  335. And that's tough

  336. but it's true

  337. for all of us.

  338. But you know what?

  339. It was true for Christ

  340. because

  341. in that difficult time,

  342. the night of his arrest,

  343. he spent that time

  344. with the disciples

  345. in the upper room

  346. and then left there

  347. to go to the Garden

  348. of Gethsemane

  349. on the,

  350. on the night

  351. of his arrest.

  352. Matthew tells us

  353. that he went to pray

  354. with Peter,

  355. James,

  356. and John.

  357. Then after praying

  358. for a time,

  359. he went a little further

  360. to pray.

  361. And I've heard

  362. wonderful sermons

  363. preached on,

  364. you got to go

  365. a little further.

  366. But let me tell you

  367. what that really means.

  368. It means he walked

  369. from here to over there.

  370. That's what that means.

  371. He got away from them

  372. and he went a little

  373. further into the garden.

  374. And then he came

  375. back to them

  376. and he found them

  377. sleeping.

  378. And then he left them

  379. and went back to pray.

  380. He came to them again

  381. and prayed the same thing.

  382. And again

  383. and again

  384. and again

  385. he sought the Father

  386. because

  387. he was about

  388. to sense

  389. and feel

  390. the wrath of God

  391. of all of our sin

  392. that was going to come

  393. upon him that night

  394. and the separation

  395. that he feel

  396. and the sin

  397. that he would bear.

  398. And he struggled

  399. in that

  400. and he went back

  401. to God

  402. the Father

  403. again

  404. and again

  405. and again.

  406. The Apostle Paul

  407. had a thorn

  408. in the flesh.

  409. He said it was

  410. a messenger

  411. of Satan.

  412. And theologians

  413. have tried to figure out

  414. forever

  415. what that messenger

  416. of Satan was.

  417. What was that throne

  418. of

  419. that

  420. not throne

  421. thorn

  422. that thorn

  423. of the flesh.

  424. What was that?

  425. Was it a physical malty?

  426. We know he had a problem

  427. with his sight.

  428. He even spoke of it.

  429. He wrote in large letters

  430. because he couldn't

  431. see very well.

  432. What was it that?

  433. Was it somebody?

  434. What was it

  435. that just

  436. just hung

  437. onto him

  438. so difficult?

  439. He said

  440. I prayed about it

  441. three times

  442. for God

  443. to remove it.

  444. Now

  445. when I read that

  446. I don't believe

  447. that was

  448. three

  449. sentence prayers.

  450. I believe

  451. we're talking about

  452. three seasons

  453. of prayer

  454. when he took

  455. that thing

  456. back to God

  457. again

  458. struggled

  459. with that

  460. in prayer

  461. asking God

  462. to remove it

  463. and God

  464. would not

  465. remove it.

  466. He never did.

  467. He just taught

  468. him that

  469. God's grace

  470. is sufficient

  471. regardless

  472. of the thorns

  473. that we face

  474. regardless

  475. of the messengers

  476. of Satan

  477. that pass

  478. through our lives

  479. whatever they may be.

  480. God's grace

  481. is sufficient.

  482. When Herod

  483. threw Peter

  484. in jail

  485. the church

  486. was earnestly

  487. praying for him

  488. and late

  489. that night

  490. miraculously

  491. God led

  492. Peter

  493. out of the jail

  494. and he went

  495. right to where

  496. that church

  497. was praying

  498. and he knocked

  499. on the door

  500. and a lady

  501. named Rhoda

  502. a servant

  503. came to the door

  504. and looked out

  505. and saw it was Peter

  506. and was so shocked

  507. that she didn't

  508. even let him in

  509. she just ran back

  510. and told the praying

  511. church that he

  512. was out there

  513. and the church

  514. said you're out

  515. of your mind

  516. he's not out there

  517. because we're praying

  518. for him to be released

  519. and when they

  520. opened the door

  521. they were amazed

  522. because in that case

  523. the timing of God

  524. was quick

  525. quicker than they

  526. anticipated

  527. listen my friend

  528. the timing of God

  529. is something that

  530. we'll never

  531. understand

  532. but I'm talking

  533. to some people

  534. this morning

  535. who are going

  536. through some stuff

  537. I know a little bit

  538. here and there

  539. but I don't have

  540. a clue

  541. I've been doing

  542. this long enough

  543. to know

  544. there's a pain

  545. on every pew

  546. in this place

  547. this morning

  548. I don't know

  549. what it is

  550. I don't have to

  551. know what it is

  552. God knows

  553. what it is

  554. and I want

  555. you to know

  556. you can trust

  557. the timing

  558. of the Lord

  559. he's good for it

  560. he can handle it

  561. and he enjoys

  562. the time

  563. that you spend

  564. pursuing him

  565. in the matters

  566. that are heavy

  567. upon your heart

  568. the timing

  569. of God

  570. is something

  571. that we'll

  572. never understand

  573. but we must

  574. trust

  575. I'm going to

  576. tell you

  577. something else

  578. the return

  579. of the Lord

  580. is certain

  581. and it is soon

  582. and it could be

  583. today

  584. we may not

  585. leave this building

  586. it could be

  587. today

  588. or it could be

  589. after we're

  590. all gone

  591. and I don't

  592. mean from the

  593. building

  594. I mean from

  595. life

  596. we don't

  597. know

  598. I'll tell you

  599. it sure don't

  600. look like

  601. that's the

  602. case

  603. but we don't

  604. know when

  605. he'll return

  606. but we do

  607. know

  608. we do know

  609. that he will

  610. and we don't

  611. know when

  612. or how

  613. he'll move

  614. in answering

  615. to our prayers

  616. but I can

  617. promise you

  618. Christ will

  619. return

  620. and Christ

  621. will answer

  622. your prayer

  623. and it will

  624. not be on

  625. your or my

  626. time schedule

  627. but it will

  628. be on time

  629. because God's

  630. always on time

  631. I'll tell you

  632. one more

  633. difference between

  634. this judge and

  635. God

  636. and that is the

  637. motive of God

  638. you know we

  639. worry so much

  640. sometimes about

  641. what people

  642. think of us

  643. we don't talk

  644. about it but we

  645. worry about it

  646. you know do they

  647. really like me

  648. why did they look

  649. at me that way

  650. I think I saw

  651. them in the aisle

  652. in the grocery

  653. store and they

  654. didn't speak

  655. of course I

  656. didn't either

  657. but does that

  658. person look up

  659. to us

  660. do they think

  661. bad of us

  662. Eleanor Roosevelt

  663. said you wouldn't

  664. worry so much

  665. about what other

  666. people think of you

  667. if you realized how

  668. seldom they do

  669. let me tell you

  670. who thinks the

  671. world of you

  672. and who's always

  673. looking out for you

  674. and that's God

  675. Walter Dixon

  676. lived in England

  677. he was walking

  678. home one day

  679. and he passed

  680. the home of an

  681. elderly lady

  682. who had been

  683. forced to take

  684. on a small

  685. child because

  686. of a family

  687. tragedy

  688. her and the

  689. child lived in

  690. that home and

  691. the house was

  692. on fire as

  693. Walter walked

  694. by

  695. the lady

  696. was saved

  697. but Walter

  698. saw the young

  699. boy in an

  700. upstairs window

  701. as the house

  702. was ablaze

  703. there was an

  704. iron pipe

  705. a drainage

  706. pipe that

  707. came down the

  708. side of that

  709. building and

  710. Walter grabbed

  711. onto that pipe

  712. and climbed that

  713. drainage pipe

  714. and rescued the

  715. boy but the

  716. pipe was burning

  717. hot

  718. and when he

  719. brought the

  720. boy back

  721. down

  722. Walter's

  723. hands were

  724. gnawed and

  725. deformed

  726. because of what

  727. he had done for

  728. that boy

  729. several months

  730. later the elderly

  731. lady died

  732. and the community

  733. came around that

  734. little boy

  735. and many of them

  736. wanted to adopt

  737. him and bring him

  738. home

  739. one wanted to bring

  740. him home because

  741. they had lost

  742. their own son

  743. and they

  744. wanted to bring

  745. that child

  746. home and

  747. another wanted

  748. to bring him

  749. home because

  750. they had a

  751. farm and

  752. they needed a

  753. good worker

  754. on the farm

  755. and they could

  756. provide a good

  757. living for the

  758. boy it was

  759. a both and

  760. situation

  761. and in the

  762. midst of these

  763. requests Walter

  764. Dixon walked

  765. up and he

  766. just held up his

  767. scarred hands

  768. and he was

  769. granted the

  770. adoption

  771. if you ever

  772. wonder what

  773. Christ thinks

  774. of you

  775. if you ever

  776. wonder what he

  777. thinks of your

  778. request of him

  779. be sure of

  780. something

  781. he loves you

  782. dearly

  783. and his

  784. motive

  785. is his love

  786. he cares so

  787. much about you

  788. that he sent his

  789. only son to die

  790. in your place

  791. John 3 16 and

  792. 17 says for God

  793. so loved the

  794. world that he

  795. gave his only

  796. son that whoever

  797. believes in him

  798. should not perish

  799. but have eternal

  800. life for God did

  801. not send his son

  802. into the world to

  803. condemn the world

  804. but in order that

  805. the world might be

  806. saved through him

  807. he loved us so

  808. much

  809. that he stretched

  810. out his arms on a

  811. cruel Roman cross

  812. and had the

  813. equivalent of

  814. railroad ties

  815. hammered into his

  816. hands

  817. and Christ died

  818. for you

  819. and if there's any

  820. doubt about his

  821. motive

  822. you just look at his

  823. hands

  824. and realize the

  825. love

  826. that he has

  827. for you

  828. but I'm thankful

  829. today that I can

  830. tell you that Christ

  831. not only died for

  832. you

  833. Christ lives for

  834. you

  835. as a matter of

  836. fact he's making

  837. intercession for

  838. you

  839. the Holy Spirit

  840. even interprets

  841. our prayers on

  842. our behalf

  843. Romans 8 26 and

  844. 27 says the

  845. spirit helps us

  846. in our weakness

  847. have you ever been

  848. weak in prayer

  849. has anybody ever

  850. struggled with

  851. how do I pray

  852. about this

  853. God do I pray

  854. for them to

  855. linger for a

  856. possible healing

  857. or God

  858. do I pray that

  859. they receive their

  860. heavenly reward

  861. their struggles

  862. and we don't know

  863. how to pray

  864. for we don't know

  865. what to pray for

  866. as we ought

  867. and the spirit

  868. himself

  869. intercedes for us

  870. with groanings

  871. too deep

  872. for words

  873. and he who

  874. searches hearts

  875. knows what is

  876. the mind of

  877. the spirit

  878. because the

  879. spirit intercedes

  880. for the saints

  881. according to the

  882. will of God

  883. that means I

  884. don't have to

  885. figure out how

  886. to pray God's

  887. will I just

  888. have to pray and

  889. seek God and the

  890. Holy Spirit knows

  891. my heart

  892. and he will

  893. interpret what

  894. I'm trying to

  895. say and smooth

  896. it out and

  897. bring it before

  898. the father

  899. he will work

  900. in you because

  901. not because you

  902. beg or beat him

  903. down but because

  904. he loves you

  905. don't ever question

  906. the nature of

  907. God

  908. don't ever question

  909. the justice of

  910. God

  911. don't ever

  912. question the

  913. timing of God

  914. or the motive

  915. of God

  916. instead live in

  917. response to

  918. that

  919. how do we

  920. live in response

  921. to that

  922. that's why he

  923. told the parable

  924. pray always

  925. 1st Timothy 5

  926. chapter 17

  927. says pray

  928. without ceasing

  929. wow

  930. that's a

  931. statement

  932. ain't it

  933. what that

  934. means is we

  935. live a life

  936. of prayer

  937. it does not

  938. mean that it's

  939. absent from having

  940. a time set

  941. aside just for

  942. prayer when

  943. everything around

  944. us as much as

  945. possible gets

  946. still and we

  947. take time out

  948. of our schedule

  949. and we book it

  950. for the Lord

  951. Jesus and lift

  952. up our prayers

  953. to him

  954. prayer

  955. but it also

  956. means that as

  957. we go along the

  958. way that we're

  959. praying

  960. it means when

  961. we're in the car

  962. by ourself that

  963. we we cut off

  964. the console

  965. we stop worrying

  966. about the telephone

  967. and we just

  968. seek God

  969. it means that when

  970. somebody comes by

  971. and says will you

  972. pray for me

  973. do it

  974. right then

  975. if God

  976. leads you

  977. stop them

  978. and say let's

  979. do it

  980. if you don't

  981. pray for them

  982. right then

  983. so you don't

  984. lie and say I'm

  985. praying for you

  986. and forget about

  987. it

  988. pray for them

  989. and then continue

  990. to pray for them

  991. as a matter of

  992. fact you can just

  993. have an ongoing

  994. conversation with

  995. the Lord at all

  996. times if you'd like

  997. to that's what

  998. praying without

  999. ceasing is

  1000. and then

  1001. Philippians 4 6

  1002. says don't be

  1003. anxious about

  1004. anything but in

  1005. everything

  1006. if you think

  1007. there's matters

  1008. in your life

  1009. that's too small

  1010. to pray for

  1011. you're wrong

  1012. if you think

  1013. there's two matters

  1014. in your life

  1015. that's too big

  1016. to pray for

  1017. they mean too

  1018. much to you

  1019. you don't want

  1020. God's will

  1021. you just want

  1022. your will

  1023. we won't admit

  1024. that but I'm

  1025. going to tell

  1026. you if there is

  1027. things like that

  1028. everything

  1029. let everything

  1030. be a matter

  1031. of prayer

  1032. a prayer

  1033. and supplication

  1034. with thanksgiving

  1035. let your request

  1036. be made known

  1037. to God

  1038. and there's a

  1039. passage

  1040. that I've

  1041. struggled with

  1042. over the years

  1043. and I've learned

  1044. to understand it

  1045. and I want you

  1046. to as well

  1047. because I believe

  1048. it'll help you

  1049. it's Psalm 37

  1050. 4

  1051. and it says

  1052. delight yourself

  1053. in the Lord

  1054. and he'll give

  1055. you the desires

  1056. of your heart

  1057. so does that

  1058. mean

  1059. that if I

  1060. get happy

  1061. with the Lord

  1062. he's going to

  1063. give me

  1064. everything I want

  1065. because man

  1066. I got a list

  1067. no that's not

  1068. what it means

  1069. it means

  1070. if we make

  1071. him a priority

  1072. in our lives

  1073. we spend time

  1074. with him

  1075. and we delight

  1076. in him

  1077. and he

  1078. becomes the

  1079. love of our

  1080. life

  1081. the joy

  1082. that we

  1083. experience

  1084. God does

  1085. a work

  1086. in our

  1087. heart

  1088. he changes

  1089. the desires

  1090. in which we

  1091. have

  1092. the things

  1093. that have

  1094. meant so much

  1095. to us in the

  1096. past don't mean

  1097. as much as

  1098. they used to

  1099. the stuff

  1100. that we feel

  1101. like we've

  1102. got to have

  1103. we don't have

  1104. to have it

  1105. like we used

  1106. to

  1107. he may give

  1108. us an insight

  1109. about something

  1110. that

  1111. that we a lot

  1112. of times

  1113. don't have

  1114. until we buy

  1115. it

  1116. and we start

  1117. paying on it

  1118. and then go

  1119. wow

  1120. I guess I had

  1121. to have this

  1122. after all

  1123. God gives us

  1124. an insight

  1125. into those

  1126. things

  1127. changes the

  1128. way our

  1129. heart works

  1130. changes the

  1131. desires of

  1132. our heart

  1133. and so when we

  1134. delight ourselves

  1135. in him he gives

  1136. us the desires

  1137. of our heart

  1138. because the

  1139. desires of our

  1140. heart is to

  1141. have more

  1142. of him

  1143. that's what

  1144. transformation

  1145. is about

  1146. that's what

  1147. sanctification

  1148. is about

  1149. being made

  1150. more like

  1151. him

  1152. that's what

  1153. happens

  1154. when we

  1155. spend time

  1156. in prayer

  1157. bringing everything

  1158. before him

  1159. and delighting

  1160. in him

  1161. he'll do a

  1162. transformation

  1163. in you

  1164. but only

  1165. if you seek

  1166. him praying

  1167. always

  1168. Martin Luther

  1169. the 16th

  1170. century German

  1171. theologian

  1172. said prayer

  1173. should be

  1174. brief

  1175. frequent

  1176. and intense

  1177. and Jesus

  1178. said you

  1179. ought to

  1180. pray

  1181. so pray

  1182. always

  1183. and lastly

  1184. believe

  1185. always

  1186. don't lose

  1187. heart

  1188. he gave

  1189. this parable

  1190. so that we

  1191. would not

  1192. lose heart

  1193. even when

  1194. you're weary

  1195. seek the

  1196. face of God

  1197. for the will

  1198. of God

  1199. in the name

  1200. of Christ

  1201. he told us

  1202. this story

  1203. so that we

  1204. ought not

  1205. to lose

  1206. heart

  1207. my friend

  1208. that's what

  1209. living by

  1210. faith is

  1211. living by

  1212. faith is

  1213. not giving

  1214. up

  1215. it's trusting

  1216. the Lord

  1217. when you don't

  1218. see his hand

  1219. at work

  1220. it's trusting

  1221. the Lord

  1222. when things

  1223. don't seem

  1224. just

  1225. and don't

  1226. seem right

  1227. it's trusting

  1228. the Lord

  1229. with his will

  1230. what is best

  1231. and relying

  1232. upon him

  1233. John tells

  1234. us in

  1235. 1 John 5

  1236. 14

  1237. and this

  1238. is the

  1239. confidence

  1240. that we

  1241. have toward

  1242. him

  1243. that if

  1244. we ask

  1245. anything

  1246. according

  1247. to his

  1248. will

  1249. he hears

  1250. us

  1251. we ought

  1252. always

  1253. to pray

  1254. and not

  1255. lose heart

  1256. I titled

  1257. this sermon

  1258. don't stop

  1259. if there's

  1260. a matter

  1261. on your

  1262. heart

  1263. that you're

  1264. taking

  1265. before the

  1266. Lord

  1267. and you're

  1268. struggling

  1269. with it

  1270. because you

  1271. don't seem

  1272. to get an

  1273. answer to

  1274. that

  1275. don't stop

  1276. praying

  1277. don't stop

  1278. just keep

  1279. bringing it

  1280. back to him

  1281. you need it

  1282. he enjoys

  1283. the time

  1284. with you

  1285. don't stop

  1286. and if

  1287. your life

  1288. is not

  1289. marked

  1290. by seeking

  1291. the face

  1292. of God

  1293. in prayer

  1294. well then

  1295. start

  1296. today

  1297. quit worrying

  1298. about all

  1299. this stuff

  1300. and give

  1301. it to God

  1302. prayer is not

  1303. about getting

  1304. your will

  1305. done in

  1306. heaven

  1307. it's about

  1308. turning your

  1309. will over

  1310. to him

  1311. and watching

  1312. his will

  1313. work in

  1314. you

  1315. that's what

  1316. it is

  1317. and it's a

  1318. transformation

  1319. process

  1320. it's a

  1321. growing process

  1322. and you don't

  1323. pick up on

  1324. that with

  1325. every episode

  1326. that comes

  1327. along in

  1328. your life

  1329. but if

  1330. you'll seek

  1331. God in

  1332. prayer about

  1333. those matters

  1334. you'll see

  1335. the difference

  1336. some of you

  1337. need to come

  1338. to this altar

  1339. today and

  1340. give something

  1341. to God

  1342. you've been

  1343. holding on

  1344. to it

  1345. you've been

  1346. worried about

  1347. it

  1348. and you're

  1349. not letting

  1350. go of

  1351. it

  1352. some of

  1353. you are

  1354. weary

  1355. there's

  1356. matters in

  1357. your life

  1358. there's a

  1359. thorn in

  1360. your flesh

  1361. there's a

  1362. messenger of

  1363. Satan

  1364. there's some

  1365. garbage going

  1366. on somewhere

  1367. that you don't

  1368. want anything

  1369. to deal with

  1370. and you're

  1371. struggling with

  1372. that

  1373. and God

  1374. says pray

  1375. always

  1376. believe

  1377. always

  1378. I'm going

  1379. to tell you

  1380. he's at

  1381. work

  1382. I thank

  1383. God he's

  1384. at work

  1385. in us

  1386. I thank

  1387. God he's

  1388. at work

  1389. in you

  1390. seek the

  1391. face of

  1392. God today

  1393. with every

  1394. head bowed

  1395. and every

  1396. eye closed

  1397. it is my

  1398. greatest burden

  1399. that someone

  1400. may hear my

  1401. preaching and

  1402. never have

  1403. received the

  1404. Lord Jesus

  1405. Christ as a

  1406. personal Lord

  1407. Savior

  1408. and if that's

  1409. your case

  1410. today I want

  1411. you to know

  1412. that today's

  1413. the day of

  1414. salvation

  1415. he'll save

  1416. you he'll

  1417. change you

  1418. from where

  1419. you are

  1420. don't try to

  1421. clean up

  1422. before you

  1423. come to

  1424. Christ you'll

  1425. never be able

  1426. to do it

  1427. you'll never

  1428. will you

  1429. come as you

  1430. are and

  1431. he'll make

  1432. you everything

  1433. you need to

  1434. be

  1435. love to guide

  1436. you in that

  1437. we're going to

  1438. stand and sing

  1439. in just a moment

  1440. you just come

  1441. you come and

  1442. say I want to

  1443. give my heart

  1444. and life to the

  1445. Lord Jesus Christ

  1446. we'd love to

  1447. guide you in that

  1448. process maybe

  1449. you're here this

  1450. morning and

  1451. there's a burden

  1452. upon your

  1453. heart burden

  1454. you want

  1455. somebody else to

  1456. pray with you

  1457. about or a

  1458. burden that you

  1459. just need to lay

  1460. at this altar

  1461. before the Lord

  1462. that's what it's

  1463. for no reluctance

  1464. let's just be

  1465. concerned about

  1466. what God would

  1467. have maybe God's

  1468. leading you to

  1469. make a private

  1470. decision public

  1471. maybe you've

  1472. given your

  1473. heart and life

  1474. to the Lord

  1475. Jesus but

  1476. you've never

  1477. been baptized

  1478. as a believer

  1479. you've never

  1480. publicly

  1481. acknowledged your

  1482. faith before

  1483. him let us

  1484. lead you through

  1485. that process

  1486. maybe you're

  1487. here this

  1488. morning and

  1489. you're struggling

  1490. with

  1491. you're struggling

  1492. with God

  1493. leading you to

  1494. be a part of

  1495. this church

  1496. you'd like to

  1497. talk to us

  1498. about that

  1499. we'd love to

  1500. have that

  1501. conversation with

  1502. you I

  1503. encourage you

  1504. today whatever

  1505. God's telling

  1506. you to do

  1507. don't do

  1508. anything less

  1509. you don't have

  1510. to do anything

  1511. more than that

  1512. but if God's

  1513. telling you to

  1514. do something

  1515. you'll be

  1516. obedient and

  1517. follow him

  1518. Lord Jesus

  1519. thank you for

  1520. your word

  1521. thank you for

  1522. your love

  1523. thank you for

  1524. what you show

  1525. us help us to

  1526. live in response

  1527. to it oh God
