  1. If you have your Bibles, turn to Mark chapter 15.

    Mark 15 chapter mention

  2. Haven't you been blessed by this music this morning?

  3. Some of you have.

  4. If you've ever been in worship and not been blessed by the music,

  5. you know the difference.

  6. I can promise you that.

  7. And we have been blessed this morning.

  8. Well, the events of the last week of Christ

  9. are the basis of really everything that a Christian places his or her faith on.

  10. And I really don't believe that you get the complete message

  11. from one event without looking at another event

  12. of the events of the last week of Christ.

  13. In other words, to understand the significance of the triumphal entry of Christ

  14. when he rode through on the donkey

  15. and people threw down their garments and palm branches

  16. and shouted, Hosanna!

  17. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord,

  18. which was on Palm Sunday, which is today.

  19. To understand that, you must see the cross.

  20. And to understand the significance and the depth of the meaning of the cross,

  21. I believe you have to look at the agonies of the garden.

  22. And we've done that together.

  23. To understand the triumph of the empty tomb,

  24. I believe you have to understand the cross of Christ.

  25. Over the last few weeks, we've explored the teachings

  26. and the events of the upper room.

  27. And we've considered the pressing weight of the garden.

  28. And we've even witnessed through Scripture

  29. the midnight, unjust scramble of the courts

  30. maneuvering to do what they needed to do

  31. or wanted to do to Jesus.

  32. This morning, we look at the cross of Christ.

  33. And to be blunt,

  34. it's where all the world changed,

  35. was in the cross of Christ.

  36. Mark chapter 15,

    Mark 15 chapter mention

  37. beginning in verse 16.

  38. It says,

  39. And the soldiers led him away inside the palace.

  40. That's the governor's headquarters.

  41. And they called together the whole battalion.

  42. They clothed him in a purple cloak

  43. and twisting together a crown of thorns,

  44. they put it on him.

  45. They began to salute him.

  46. Hail, King of the Jews!

  47. They were striking his head

  48. with a reed

  49. and spitting on him

  50. and kneeling down in homage to him.

  51. And when they had mocked him,

  52. they stripped him of the purple cloak

  53. and put his own clothes on him.

  54. And they led him out to crucify him.

  55. They compelled a passerby,

  56. Simon of Cyrene,

  57. who was coming in from the country,

  58. the father of Alexander and Rufus,

  59. to carry his cross.

  60. And they brought him to the place called Golgotha,

  61. which means the place of a skull.

  62. And they offered him wine mixed with myrrh,

  63. but he did not take it.

  64. And they crucified

  65. and divided his garments among them,

  66. casting lots for them

  67. to decide what each should take.

  68. And it was the third hour

  69. when they crucified him,

  70. and the inscription of the,

  71. that's about 9 a.m.,

  72. and the inscription of the charge against him

  73. read,

  74. the king of the Jews.

  75. And with him they crucified two robbers,

  76. one on his right

  77. and one on his left.

  78. Now down to verse 33,

  79. and it says this,

  80. And when the sixth hour had come,

  81. there was darkness over the whole land

  82. until the ninth hour.

  83. And at the ninth hour,

  84. Jesus cried out with a loud voice,

  85. Eloi, Eloi,

  86. lama shebachthani,

  87. which means,

  88. My God, my God,

  89. why have you forsaken me?

  90. And some of the bystanders hearing it said,

  91. Behold, he's calling Elijah.

  92. And someone ran and filled a sponge with sour wine,

  93. put it on a reed,

  94. and gave it to him to drink,

  95. saying,

  96. Wait,

  97. let us see whether Elijah will come to take him down.

  98. And Jesus uttered a loud cry

  99. and breathed his last,

  100. and the curtain of the temple was torn into two

  101. from top to bottom.

  102. And when the centurion who stood facing him

  103. saw that in this way he breathed his last,

  104. he said,

  105. Truly, this man was the Son of God.

  106. Let's pray together.

  107. Heavenly Father,

  108. I pray today that as we look at the events of the cross

  109. and the significance of the cross,

  110. and we look at the details of it,

  111. I pray, dear God,

  112. that the details of it will not get in the way

  113. of the message of the cross, dear Father.

  114. Lord, I also pray that whatever else

  115. is in our hearts and lives today

  116. that may distract us in the next few moments.

  117. God, I pray that you'll remove those things from our mind,

  118. that in a Holy Spirit sweep,

  119. you'll just allow us to focus

  120. on the cross of Christ together.

  121. In Jesus' name.

  122. Amen.

  123. As horrible as it is,

  124. and I do not want to ever look as if

  125. I enjoy talking about such matters,

  126. I believe we need to look into the depths of the cross

  127. and understand the significance of

  128. what the Lord Jesus went through on the cross.

  129. Come with me and let's look at the cross of Christ.

  130. Come and see the physical agony of the cross.

  131. Jesus was battered,

  132. he was bruised,

  133. he was ridiculed,

  134. he was mocked.

  135. On his way to the cross,

  136. they placed a crown of thorns upon his brow,

  137. and they hit him in the head with a reed.

  138. Remember a scalp that was already sensitive and sore

  139. due to a stress-related malady

  140. that he had suffered in the garden.

  141. Gospel writer tells us

  142. that he was sweating drops of blood,

  143. which speaks of hematidrosis,

  144. which is a painful, sensitive matter in the face

  145. that can only be caused by the worst of stress,

  146. and on top of that,

  147. they place a crown of thorns upon him,

  148. thorns of an inch or two long a piece,

  149. drive him into his head

  150. by beating him in the head with a stick.

  151. John 19, 1 tells us that he was flogged.

  152. Flogging was not intended for execution,

  153. but instead often was used instead of execution,

  154. and at times they would do it along with crucifixion,

  155. which they did to Christ.

  156. The purpose of the scourging was not to kill a man,

  157. but to brutally, painfully humiliate the man.

  158. It was meant as a demeaning and a belittling,

  159. so much so that the Roman citizens could not even be flogged.

  160. They didn't allow them to.

  161. They used what they called a flagellum.

  162. It was similar to what the British called the cat of nine tails.

  163. It was a whip with as many as nine strands coming out from the end of it,

  164. and on those leather strands,

  165. they were weighed down with pieces of lead or metal or pieces of bone.

  166. They were intended to increase the impact of the whip hitting the flesh

  167. when brought down in force,

  168. as well the depths of the wounds of such a lash absolutely amazed people.

  169. Eusebius, an ancient historian, said this.

  170. He said,

  171. The lacerations were, and I quote,

  172. Even to innermost veins and arteries,

  173. sometimes the hidden inward parts of the body,

  174. both their bowels and their members were exposed to view.

  175. Bound to a post, stretched out over a frame,

  176. they were beaten from shoulders to legs

  177. until the flesh was literally shredded and the inner parts exposed.

  178. The Jews limited that to only 40 lashes.

  179. And I always say you get your best counting buddy to count for you

  180. when you do that,

  181. because if they gave more than 40 lashes,

  182. they got the same treatment themselves.

  183. So there became a trend for the Jews to stop at 39,

  184. just in case the old boy might have missed one.

  185. But not for the Romans.

  186. They didn't care.

  187. They could whip you as long as they gauged necessary,

  188. and they did.

  189. He was then led out to be crucified.

  190. The one to be crucified,

  191. instead of carrying the whole cross,

  192. as we typically have seen,

  193. probably in reality carried the horizontal cross beam

  194. called the Pertullum,

  195. weighed somewhere between 75 and 125 pounds.

  196. However, he was not able to carry it.

  197. Christ was not able to carry it for long

  198. because of the beating that he had endured.

  199. And, you know,

  200. the Romans loved the exhibition of a man

  201. having to struggle under that.

  202. So sometimes the Romans,

  203. when one would move too slowly with the cross beam,

  204. they'd actually tie a rope around him

  205. and pull him along the way to help him,

  206. to make it more agony.

  207. But for Jesus,

  208. they got Simon of Cyrene to carry the cross from there,

  209. and down the Via Della Rosa,

  210. they went out of the city gate

  211. into a place called Golgotha,

  212. which is Greek for the place of the skull.

  213. Later, and you may be familiar with it being called Calvary,

  214. that's the Latin term for it.

  215. Having reached his destination,

  216. his hands were nailed to the crossbar

  217. right through the hollow spot above the wrist.

  218. If he was actually nailed in the hand,

  219. it would have tore through.

  220. So instead, they found this hollow part

  221. right at the end of what they call the lifeline,

  222. and there's a hollow spot there that they hit

  223. where there's no vital artery

  224. with nails that were about four to five inches long,

  225. very similar to a more narrow railroad spike.

  226. Those nails symbolized Roman cruelty.

  227. Other societies would rope a man to the cross,

  228. but not Rome.

  229. The crossbar had a hollowed-out cup

  230. in the center of it,

  231. and that crossbar was lifted up

  232. and placed upon the stipes

  233. that usually were planted in the ground vertically

  234. and stayed there with a point on the end,

  235. so it just kind of fit like a log cabin fits together.

  236. Or if you don't know what that is, like a Lego.

  237. How about that?

  238. Fit together.

  239. Jesus was then placed in the center

  240. as the chief criminal.

  241. His greatest agony, however, was as he hung.

  242. Jim Bishop wrote a book called

  243. The Day Jesus Died,

  244. and he described the agony of the cross like this.

  245. To be able to breathe,

  246. the victim had to stay in constant motion,

  247. literally dragging himself up and down

  248. until he could no longer.

  249. Each time the pain mounted,

  250. his arms, his legs, entire torso,

  251. screamed in pain.

  252. Slowly and steadily, he was being asphyxiated,

  253. as if two thumbs were pressing against his throat.

  254. Some say the crucified ones died of suffocation.

  255. Others, hunger.

  256. Still others, sheer exhaustion

  257. as their bodies just wore out.

  258. End of quote.

  259. The Roman soldiers were experts in crucifying.

  260. They learned how to do it right,

  261. and they also learned that

  262. when you bend a man's knees

  263. at the proper anger,

  264. you could actually prolong his agony.

  265. When they were ready for them to die,

  266. they would simply shatter the legs of the man

  267. who could no longer pull himself up on the cross

  268. and therefore would asphyxiate.

  269. Death came quickly after that.

  270. Now, you may be thinking,

  271. why do you share all that?

  272. Why all the grotesque?

  273. Why deal with that?

  274. I don't have to,

  275. but I want you to know

  276. what Jesus suffered for our sins.

  277. Come and see.

  278. Not only the physical agony,

  279. but come and see the physical darkness

  280. because while Christ hung on the cross,

  281. the sky strangely turned black,

  282. although the time was noon.

  283. For three hours,

  284. the sky was as dark as night

  285. in the middle of the day

  286. until about three o'clock when Jesus died.

  287. And the moment he died,

  288. the earth began to shake.

  289. The earthquake was so violent,

  290. it says that rocks split.

  291. It was not a rumbling.

  292. It was more than a typical tremor.

  293. And quite honestly,

  294. it had to be somewhat horrifying

  295. to be standing in that area

  296. and to be witnessing

  297. such a horrific experience.

  298. It was a physical darkness.

  299. But quite honestly,

  300. I believe the greatest agony

  301. and darkness of the cross

  302. was not physical,

  303. but instead was spiritual.

  304. Understand and come and see

  305. the physical,

  306. the spiritual agony of the cross.

  307. Understand that Jesus was sinless

  308. and understand that it is sin

  309. that restrains us

  310. from having a perfect

  311. Garden of Eden type experience

  312. with the Lord.

  313. Jesus had never had a conflict

  314. with the Father.

  315. Jesus was never,

  316. never sinned,

  317. was not born into sin,

  318. never even had a hindrance

  319. in his relationship

  320. with the Father.

  321. Never did he suffer

  322. with understanding

  323. what God was up to.

  324. He was literally

  325. the mind of Christ.

  326. He knew exactly

  327. what the Father would have.

  328. Christ was sinless

  329. without any hindrance.

  330. That is until

  331. he became sin

  332. on our behalf.

  333. 2 Corinthians 5,

    2 Corinthians 5:21

  334. verse 21

  335. puts it this way,

  336. for our sake he made him

  337. to be sin

  338. who knew no sin

  339. so that in him

  340. we might become

  341. the righteousness of God.

  342. And for the first time

  343. in his life

  344. there was a sin hindrance

  345. between Christ and the Father

  346. as the weight of the world's sins

  347. fell upon his shoulders

  348. and hid the face of God

  349. from him

  350. for the first time

  351. and he felt forsaken

  352. by both God and man.

  353. As he was wounded

  354. for our transgressions

  355. and bruised for our iniquities

  356. and faced hell

  357. so we don't have to,

  358. there had to be

  359. a powerful sense

  360. of the forsakenness

  361. of the Father

  362. and it was absolute

  363. spiritual agony

  364. for the Lord.

  365. I told you

  366. a couple of weeks ago

  367. that that's the cup

  368. that he spoke of

  369. in the garden

  370. and that's what he dreaded

  371. the most.

  372. The spiritual agony.

  373. But in the midst of that

  374. I also want you to see

  375. the,

  376. to come and see

  377. the spiritual darkness.

  378. because while the sinless

  379. Lamb of God

  380. is dying for the sins

  381. of the world

  382. the sky strangely

  383. turned black

  384. although the time

  385. was noon

  386. and stayed that way

  387. until he died.

  388. And in that darkness

  389. the soldiers gambled

  390. for his clothing.

  391. Remember they had

  392. taken his clothing off

  393. and put a mocking

  394. purple robe on him

  395. and beat him with it

  396. and then took it back off

  397. and put his clothes

  398. back on him.

  399. And then as he hung

  400. before he hung

  401. they stripped him

  402. of those clothing.

  403. Scripture tells us

  404. that he wore

  405. a seamless tunic

  406. which is a very nice

  407. piece of clothing.

  408. Normally it was

  409. had seams.

  410. And

  411. while he died

  412. for their sins

  413. they gambled

  414. for that

  415. and the other articles

  416. of clothing

  417. that he had.

  418. While he was dying

  419. for their sins

  420. they gambled

  421. and the sky

  422. turned black.

  423. As well

  424. the very people

  425. that he died for

  426. came by

  427. and hurled insults

  428. at him

  429. made sarcastic

  430. and mocking remarks

  431. that if he was

  432. so miraculous

  433. why don't he

  434. save himself?

  435. The reason why

  436. he didn't save himself

  437. is because he was

  438. too busy saving them.

  439. it was a

  440. dark moment.

  441. We live in a world

  442. of dark moments.

  443. We had a dark moment

  444. last week

  445. or ten days ago

  446. when a crazy person

  447. went to school

  448. in Nashville

  449. killed innocent victims.

  450. Horrible dark moment.

  451. last week

  452. the storms

  453. that rolled

  454. through

  455. the dark

  456. killed two dozen

  457. people in Mississippi

  458. and destroyed

  459. nearly 2,000 homes

  460. and then a revisit

  461. of storms

  462. just this past

  463. Friday night.

  464. That's dark.

  465. But I want you

  466. to understand

  467. there has never

  468. been

  469. one more

  470. than the darkness

  471. of high noon

  472. when the Savior

  473. hung on the cross

  474. for you

  475. and me

  476. and them

  477. and all

  478. the world.

  479. It is horrible

  480. to look at

  481. even 2,000

  482. years later

  483. but I think

  484. you have to

  485. understand

  486. the spiritual

  487. darkness.

  488. I am just

  489. thankful

  490. that it

  491. don't stop

  492. there

  493. because if

  494. it did

  495. I wouldn't

  496. have told

  497. you all

  498. of that

  499. and honestly

  500. I wouldn't

  501. be standing

  502. here doing

  503. what I'm

  504. doing.

  505. I want

  506. you to

  507. come and

  508. see the

  509. spiritual

  510. hope

  511. that comes

  512. from the

  513. cross

  514. because there's

  515. a wonderful

  516. spiritual hope

  517. in this

  518. passage

  519. that I

  520. don't want

  521. you to

  522. miss

  523. at all

  524. and that

  525. is

  526. eternal

  527. life.

  528. It's in

  529. Luke chapter

    Luke 23:39

  530. 23 verse

  531. 39 and

  532. it says

  533. this

  534. one of

  535. the criminals

  536. who were

  537. hanged

  538. railed at

  539. him saying

  540. are you not

  541. the Christ

  542. save yourself

  543. and us

  544. but the

  545. other rebuked

  546. him and

  547. said do

  548. you not

  549. fear God

  550. since you

  551. are under

  552. the same

  553. sentence

  554. of condemnation

  555. and we

  556. indeed

  557. justly

  558. for we

  559. are

  560. receiving

  561. the

  562. reward

  563. of our

  564. deeds

  565. for this

  566. man has

  567. done

  568. nothing

  569. wrong

  570. and he

  571. said

  572. Jesus

  573. remember

  574. me

  575. when you

  576. come

  577. into your

  578. kingdom

  579. and he

  580. said

  581. truly I

  582. say to

  583. you

  584. today

  585. you

  586. will

  587. be

  588. with

  589. me

  590. in

  591. paradise

  592. I want

  593. you to

  594. understand

  595. the spiritual

  596. hope is

  597. eternal

  598. life

  599. in Christ

  600. he gave

  601. eternal

  602. life

  603. to

  604. a robber

  605. and a

  606. bandit

  607. that hung

  608. beside him

  609. Matthew 27

    Matthew 27:44

  610. verse 44

  611. tells us

  612. that the

  613. robbers of

  614. the bandits

  615. on both

  616. sides of

  617. him were

  618. insulting

  619. Christ on

  620. the cross

  621. they joined

  622. in with the

  623. crowd taunting

  624. this so-called

  625. king and

  626. then something

  627. happened one

  628. of them

  629. suddenly changed

  630. his attitude

  631. and thought

  632. and when the

  633. other taunted

  634. he corrected

  635. him

  636. and Luke

  637. 23 says

  638. that he said

  639. to him

  640. do you not

  641. fear God

  642. since you're

  643. under the

  644. same sentence

  645. of condemnation

  646. what changed

  647. that man

  648. what happened

  649. in the midst

  650. of that

  651. I believe

  652. it was what

  653. he saw

  654. for the first

  655. time

  656. and that was

  657. he saw a

  658. king for the

  659. first time

  660. he saw the

  661. Christ for the

  662. first time

  663. for the first

  664. time it was

  665. sinking in

  666. that this

  667. God man

  668. was real

  669. but secondly

  670. I want you

  671. to notice

  672. the silence

  673. Jesus never

  674. sparred back

  675. he let them

  676. waggle their

  677. tongues

  678. however

  679. thank God

  680. however it

  681. happened

  682. he saw

  683. Jesus

  684. he submitted

  685. himself to

  686. Christ

  687. asked for

  688. mercy

  689. and Jesus

  690. said

  691. remember

  692. he said

  693. Jesus

  694. remember me

  695. when you

  696. come into

  697. your kingdom

  698. and Jesus

  699. replied

  700. today you

  701. shall be

  702. with me

  703. in paradise

  704. and theologians

  705. have tried to

  706. figure out

  707. where paradise

  708. is

  709. it's fascinating

  710. to hear their

  711. conversation

  712. you know what's

  713. most important

  714. to me

  715. paradise

  716. is where

  717. Jesus is

  718. because he

  719. says today

  720. you shall be

  721. with me

  722. in paradise

  723. salvation

  724. came to that

  725. man that

  726. day

  727. and that

  728. gives hope

  729. to all that

  730. we meet

  731. no matter

  732. your circumstances

  733. no matter

  734. your lifestyle

  735. no matter

  736. the good

  737. choices in

  738. your life

  739. no matter

  740. the bad

  741. choices in

  742. your life

  743. it's not

  744. the will

  745. of God

  746. that any

  747. should perish

  748. but that

  749. all should

  750. come

  751. to have

  752. eternal

  753. life

  754. it means

  755. so much

  756. more to

  757. Christ

  758. that he

  759. gave

  760. it means

  761. so much

  762. to Christ

  763. that he

  764. gave his

  765. life

  766. for you

  767. to have

  768. that

  769. opportunity

  770. and if

  771. he'll save

  772. a hardened

  773. convicted

  774. criminal

  775. on his

  776. death

  777. cross

  778. don't you

  779. dare wonder

  780. whether

  781. Christ is

  782. willing to

  783. save you

  784. or not

  785. he died

  786. for you

  787. he bore

  788. the cross

  789. for you

  790. I'm

  791. thankful

  792. for the

  793. eternal

  794. life

  795. that he

  796. gives

  797. but I'm

  798. also

  799. thankful

  800. for the

  801. eternal

  802. access

  803. because when

  804. the earthquake

  805. at that

  806. moment he

  807. died

  808. rocks

  809. split

  810. it was

  811. so violent

  812. that scripture

  813. says

  814. that it

  815. tore

  816. the veil

  817. in the

  818. holy of

  819. holies

  820. in half

  821. that curtain

  822. was 60

  823. feet

  824. long

  825. and 30

  826. feet

  827. wide

  828. and they

  829. say that

  830. it was

  831. as wide

  832. as the

  833. palm of

  834. a man's

  835. hand

  836. and yet

  837. in the midst

  838. of that

  839. earthquake

  840. it split

  841. tore all

  842. the way

  843. and what's

  844. fascinating to

  845. me about

  846. that is

  847. is that

  848. it ripped

  849. from top

  850. to bottom

  851. it would

  852. have made

  853. a lot

  854. of sense

  855. in an

  856. earthquake

  857. if the

  858. ground

  859. split

  860. so much

  861. that it

  862. caused the

  863. curtain

  864. to split

  865. as well

  866. that would

  867. make sense

  868. but the

  869. veil was

  870. ripped

  871. from top

  872. to bottom

  873. the veil

  874. was ripped

  875. by God

  876. as the

  877. earth

  878. quaked

  879. by God

  880. in the

  881. midst of

  882. the darkness

  883. by God

  884. what a

  885. horrible

  886. experience

  887. to live

  888. through

  889. but the

  890. Hebrew writer

  891. tells us

  892. what that

  893. means

  894. chapter 10

  895. verses 19

  896. through 25

  897. says this

  898. therefore

  899. brothers

  900. since we

  901. have confidence

  902. to enter the

  903. holy places

  904. by the blood

  905. of Jesus

  906. by the new

  907. and living

  908. way that he

  909. opened for us

  910. through the

  911. curtain

  912. that is

  913. through his

  914. flesh

  915. and since

  916. we have a

  917. great priest

  918. over the

  919. house of

  920. God

  921. let us

  922. draw near

  923. with a true

  924. heart and

  925. full assurance

  926. of faith

  927. with our

  928. hearts

  929. sprinkled

  930. clean

  931. from an

  932. evil

  933. conscience

  934. and our

  935. bodies

  936. washed

  937. with pure

  938. water

  939. and let us

  940. hold fast

  941. the confession

  942. of our

  943. faith without

  944. wavering

  945. for he who

  946. promised

  947. is faithful

  948. and let

  949. us consider

  950. how to

  951. stir one

  952. another

  953. to love

  954. and good

  955. works

  956. not neglecting

  957. to meet

  958. together

  959. as too

  960. many are

  961. in the

  962. habit of

  963. doing

  964. but encouraging

  965. one another

  966. and all the

  967. more as you

  968. see the day

  969. drawing near

  970. it is because

  971. of Christ

  972. my friend

  973. that we can

  974. approach the

  975. throne of God

  976. forgiven

  977. clean

  978. and we can

  979. enter boldly

  980. we can stand

  981. strong in our

  982. faith

  983. and we can

  984. we can trust

  985. the word of

  986. God

  987. because he

  988. does

  989. what he

  990. says

  991. he'll do

  992. he's faithful

  993. to his

  994. promises

  995. and understanding

  996. that what he's

  997. done for us

  998. and understanding

  999. how he's faithful

  1000. to his promises

  1001. and understanding

  1002. that whatever

  1003. tomorrow holds

  1004. he's already

  1005. there

  1006. understanding

  1007. all that

  1008. it ought to

  1009. stir us up

  1010. it ought to

  1011. change our

  1012. lives

  1013. and as

  1014. Christians

  1015. we ought to

  1016. we ought to

  1017. stir each

  1018. other up

  1019. to encourage

  1020. each other

  1021. in our

  1022. faith

  1023. it ought to

  1024. encourage us

  1025. to invite

  1026. others to

  1027. come to

  1028. Christ

  1029. through the

  1030. work of

  1031. the cross

  1032. come and

  1033. see

  1034. the cross

  1035. of Christ

  1036. it'll change

  1037. your life

  1038. for all

  1039. eternity

  1040. with every

  1041. head bowed

  1042. and every

  1043. eye closed

  1044. I want to

  1045. ask you

  1046. if you've

  1047. ever surrendered

  1048. your heart

  1049. and life

  1050. to the

  1051. Lord Jesus

  1052. Christ

  1053. has there

  1054. ever been a

  1055. time when

  1056. you can go

  1057. back to

  1058. where you've

  1059. committed your

  1060. life to

  1061. Christ

  1062. confess that

  1063. you'd sinned

  1064. ask him to

  1065. forgive you

  1066. and promise

  1067. to live for

  1068. him

  1069. none of us

  1070. have done that

  1071. sufficiently

  1072. living for

  1073. him but

  1074. it all

  1075. begins with

  1076. the first

  1077. step

  1078. and if

  1079. you've never

  1080. taken that

  1081. first step

  1082. or unsure

  1083. about that

  1084. first step

  1085. to come to

  1086. Christ

  1087. I want you

  1088. to know

  1089. today's the

  1090. day of

  1091. salvation

  1092. if you'll

  1093. come to

  1094. him today

  1095. he'll save

  1096. you

  1097. he'll change

  1098. you

  1099. that yearning

  1100. that you have

  1101. within you

  1102. to make a

  1103. decision for

  1104. Christ

  1105. didn't come

  1106. from you

  1107. it came

  1108. from him

  1109. he's calling

  1110. you to

  1111. himself

  1112. maybe you're

  1113. here this

  1114. morning and

  1115. you do know

  1116. that you're

  1117. a Christian

  1118. but the

  1119. reality is

  1120. your life

  1121. is not a

  1122. life of

  1123. the cross

  1124. as he told

  1125. us to deny

  1126. ourselves and

  1127. pick up our

  1128. cross and

  1129. carry it

  1130. daily

  1131. is your

  1132. life reflected

  1133. of the cross

  1134. Christian

  1135. or is today

  1136. a day of

  1137. renewal for

  1138. you

  1139. I want

  1140. you to know

  1141. that you can

  1142. renew your

  1143. life right

  1144. where you

  1145. are

  1146. you can

  1147. have a

  1148. pastor pray

  1149. for you

  1150. or you can

  1151. just come to

  1152. this altar

  1153. and lay it

  1154. down before

  1155. God

  1156. but I

  1157. encourage you

  1158. to not let

  1159. anything be a

  1160. hindrance in

  1161. your life when

  1162. you leave

  1163. here and

  1164. you'll walk

  1165. with the

  1166. Lord

  1167. maybe you're

  1168. here and

  1169. you're visiting

  1170. with us this

  1171. morning and

  1172. God's drawing

  1173. you to be a

  1174. part of this

  1175. church how

  1176. we'd love for

  1177. you to be a

  1178. part of our

  1179. fellowship

  1180. I encourage

  1181. you to come

  1182. we'd love to

  1183. guide you in

  1184. that process

  1185. or maybe

  1186. you're here

  1187. and you've

  1188. given your

  1189. heart and

  1190. life to the

  1191. Lord Jesus

  1192. but you've

  1193. never publicly

  1194. acknowledged it

  1195. it was a

  1196. private decision

  1197. that you made

  1198. and you've

  1199. never shared

  1200. that with

  1201. anybody

  1202. you need to

  1203. be baptized

  1204. you just come

  1205. say pastor

  1206. I know I'm

  1207. saved but I

  1208. need to be

  1209. baptized as a

  1210. believer

  1211. and we'll

  1212. guide you in

  1213. that

  1214. we're going

  1215. to stand

  1216. right after

  1217. I pray

  1218. and we're

  1219. going to

  1220. sing but

  1221. more important

  1222. than singing

  1223. I encourage

  1224. you to be

  1225. obedient and

  1226. follow him

  1227. heavenly father

  1228. I love you

  1229. and I thank

  1230. you dear God

  1231. for the love

  1232. that you have

  1233. for us and

  1234. I ask right

  1235. now father

  1236. that you'll

  1237. work and

  1238. you'll move

  1239. in the hearts

  1240. and lives of

  1241. each individual

  1242. in this place

  1243. and help us

  1244. to be obedient

  1245. to follow you

  1246. as you lead

  1247. us oh God

  1248. I pray

  1249. in Jesus name

  1250. amen
